Chapter 2031
Lucius gazed suspiciously at Joan’s words. He could not quite shake the feeling that something was
seriously wrong, but was unable to voice it out.
“But Mommy, I don’t know why but I always feel like that woman is bad news when she comes here,”
Lucius mumbled.
Of course it was bad news. Gabriella was a proud woman who wouldn’t let anybody stand in her way of
what she wanted. Looks like it’s going to be a tough one.
“All right, be good and go to sleep.” Joan caressed Lucius’s hair gently.
Very quickly, he shut his eyes as was told. Joan pulled the quilt over him and left his room.
Gabriella was still on the couch rifling through some magazines.
When did she become so thick-skinned? She’s still here!
“What are you still doing here?” Joan asked coldly.
Does this b*tch need to be chased out with a stick? Gabriella glared at her with an expression of
disdain.
“Joan, I have always been straightforward, and I would like you to do the same. Tell me when you and
Larry are getting a divorce,” Gabriella asked bitterly.
At the look of desperation on Gabriella’s voice, Joan sneered.
What’s the rush? If the child in her womb is really Larry’s, why is she constantly bugging them to get a
divorce?
It looks like this situation has more to it than meets the eye.
“As I’ve told you before, in regards to the divorce, I would be more than happy to sign the papers if
Larry agrees to it. You have my word that I will leave and be out of your lives after that,” Joan said with
conviction.
Joan had pushed all the responsibility onto Larry. He was the only weak spot of Gabriella. Gabriella
had loved Larry for so many years and had given up on him. It’s a shame that Larry had never spent
any time on her. Joan felt rather fortunate with that.
“Joan, stop playing games. You must divorce Larry immediately. My stomach will be getting bigger
soon. Don’t you care about what people might say about Larry? About his infidelity?” Gabriella said
fiercely.
She made it sound as if she had always had Larry’s best interest at heart.
“I’m going to bed,” Joan said plainly. “You should go home too, it’s late already.”
I’m not in the mood to look at her or even discuss matters with her. We shall see what Larry’s
investigation yields before we take another step.
This is what love is. If the man treats his woman well, she would trust him unreservedly. Joan had felt
resentful when Larry’s trip abroad to visit her had been delayed for many days. They’ve since made up
and naturally, she would choose to be on Larry’s side, to trust him.
“Joan, don’t get too pleased with yourself. I’m telling you, this child is Larry’s. This is beyond the
shadow of a doubt. You’d better get a divorce, or else…” Gabriella glared at Joan as she left her threat
hanging ominously.
Or else what? Deal with me? Assassinate me? Scold me? Ruin my life?
What wouldn’t she do? It was laughable. If I am scared of her, why would I even meet her? Joan’s eyes
flashed with disdain.
Gabriella flared up at Joan’s silence.
“Joan, I’m going to kick your ass,” Gabriella said as she approached with an ugly look of rage on her
face.
What’s she doing? Is she crazy?
“Gabriella, calm yourself. You’re carrying a child,” Joan said with a frightened look toward Gabriella.
This is Ms. Young’s home. If this woman came here to cause trouble, I’m the one to blame!
“What is it? Are you scared?” Gabriella said forcefully.
Is there something wrong with her brain? She would rather risk her baby’s safety and pick a fight with
me?
“Calm down, will you? No matter what, the child is innocent. Tell you what. I’ll send you home and you
get some rest for you and the baby. As for the matter of the divorce, I will talk about it with Larry.”
Chapter 2032
Gabriella’s eyes flashed with coldness all of a sudden.
But suddenly, a terrifying idea appeared in Gabriella’s mind. Perhaps Joan being worried about it gave
Gabriella the idea.
If I have a miscarriage, the cause of it would be Joan! She would be a murderer!
It was Joan who had caused me to lose my baby!
Gabriella turned and ran toward the table. She grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed herself in the
stomach.
“Ah! Joan, you killed my baby! You are a murderer! Larry…” Gabriella screamed as she clutched her
stomach and clung to the wall for support.
In a split second, the floor was covered in blood, as was Gabriella.
Joan was stunned. She did not expect Gabriella to harm her own child. She is the biological mother of
that unborn child!
This woman is insane! Completely insane!
Joan hurriedly grabbed her phone to dial a number.
“Hello, is this 911? I have a pregnant mother here, I need…”
Gabriella laughed coldly at the sight of Joan’s worried look as she spoke on the phone.
“Are you scared now, Joan?” Gabriella taunted. “I will forever be at odds with you because you are my
mortal enemy. You’ve not only stole my man, you killed my child as well. You are a sinner!” she pointed
a vicious finger at Joan and screamed.
“Gabriella, save your strength. The ambulance is on its way. Save your energy.” Joan hurried over to
help Gabriella up, but with a hard shove, Gabriella threw Joan back against the wall.
“I don’t need your pity, please stop looking at me like that. Who do you think you are? You’re just an
ordinary village peasant. I don’t understand why Larry likes you. Why do you have to steal my man
from me? Now that you’ve killed my child, I’m going to make you regret it for the rest of your life. I want
you to live in guilt forever!” Gabriella said coldly.
She nearly fell down a couple of times. Joan attempted to help her up each time but was rudely
rebuffed. Perhaps she had already hated Joan to an unimaginable degree.
Humans tend to perform desperate acts when they were irrational. Perhaps after many years, she
would look back and remember that she had a child but was killed by Joan before it came into the
world.
“Doctor, over here! Hurry!” Joan cried.
At this point, Gabriella was already unconscious on the floor.
“Gabriella, wake up. We’re at the hospital,” Joan said as she violently shook her elbow.
But Gabriella remained motionless.
“Why did you do that for? That was your flesh and bone! Even if the baby isn’t Larry’s, but it was still
yours!” Joan’s voice was unsteady.
She suddenly felt guilty. If she had divorced Larry earlier, such a thing would not have happened.
“What? At the hospital? Okay, don’t panic. I’m coming right over…” Larry hung up the phone as he
rushed out of his office.
At the moment, Gabriella was still unconscious in the operating theater.
She did not know what was going on in there.
Joan was pacing nonstop by the door. Her face was full of panic.
What am I going to do? Will the child be safe? Her hands were clasped in front of her in anxiety.
That was Gabriella’s firstborn!
“Gabriella, wake up.” Joan sat next to her bed and held Gabriella’s hand in her own.
Her pale face and purplish lips made her look very weary.
D*mn it, how could she do something so stupid? Joan rubbed her head in frustration, her eyes filled
with pain. However, she did not expect danger to be lurking just around the corner.
Chapter 2033
“Joan!” Larry burst in.
“What is it?” he looked intently at Joan as he awaited an explanation.
“Gabriella had lost her child. She went to Ms. Young’s house, and…” Joan stammered.
She was too emotional and did not know how to explain this to Larry.
“Joan, take a deep breath. Don’t panic, and tell me from the start.” Larry caressed Joan’s hair gently to
calm her down.
“Gabriella!” A man barged in with fear in his eyes.
“Gabriella, what happened to you? Wake up? The baby, where’s the baby?” the man bellowed to a
nurse passing by as he blocked her path.
“What are you talking about? I don’t know…” The nurse was frightened by his mad appearance.
“What do you mean you don’t know? Gabriella is here in your hospital! It’s your job to know! She was
fine this morning and now she’s lying comatose! What kind of doctors and nurses are you? I’m going to
sue you! Hurry up and make her wake up. That woman who’s lying there in that ward. Hurry!” the man
shouted, slightly demented.
“Sir, please calm down. We know that we are worried for Ms. Ward, but she had just came out of
surgery and needs rest, so if you could please lower down your voice,” the nurse replied awkwardly.
Surgery? She went for surgery? The man’s eyes lit up.
“What did you say? Gabriella went for surgery? What for? When was she operated on?” the man
gripped the nurse’s elbow tightly with no intention of letting go.
The commotion drew a crowd of spectators.
“Is this guy crazy or what?”
“How rude of him to be making such a racket in a hospital…”
“I heard it was because of a woman…”
Slanderous gossip came from all sides. The man wasn’t affected, however. He did not even seem to
notice that he was surrounded.
“I don’t care, she must be awake by today!” The man pulled on the nurse’s arm to leave.
“Sir, please mind yourself. I have to fetch some medication for a patient…” The nurse struggled.
The supervisor promptly arrived and took the troublemaker into his office.
Joan witnessed the entire spectacle with shock. She knew who that man was though this was the first
time she laid eyes on him. She had not even heard Gabriella mentioning him.
“Who was he?” Joan asked Larry in a low voice.
“He is the father of the child in Gabriella’s womb,” Larry replied simply.
Joan was shocked.
Is the child within her not Larry’s? Why didn’t he say so? I’ve misunderstood him for so long.
But… Joan stared at the woman on the bed and felt defeated.
Sometimes, women who were pure of heart wouldn’t think the worst of a situation, like how Joan was at
that moment.
“Joan, you should leave the country for a while,” Larry said suddenly. He had intended to take care of
everything.
What is the meaning of this? Why do I have to flee the country all of a sudden? Joan gazed curiously at
the man before her.
“Can’t you see why? Gabriella was gravely injured in Ms. Young’s house, and you were the only
witness. Of course she would push the blame onto you. Do you think she would confess to stabbing
herself?” Larry said coldly.
Joan recalled Gabriella’s words in the house.
Larry was right; Gabriella intended to frame me! Her plan was to create a scene with her unborn baby
and force me and Larry to get a divorce!
Joan was so busy being worried for Gabriella that it just occurred to Joan that maybe she ought to be
worried for herself for a change. What would she do? Blackmail her with the threat of death?
Larry would of course believe Joan. She would never do something like this. But Gabriella had
extraordinary deviousness. She would have thought this through thoroughly to execute something as
drastic as this.
Chapter 2034
What a cruel woman to sacrifice her child! Larry clenched his fists with a cold glare from his eyes.
The woman on the bed stirred.
White ceiling, white quilt, white bedsheets, white walls, everything was white.
Of course, the hospital.
Gabriella felt severe pain in her midsection. She threw off the quilt in a panic and touched her stomach.
“My baby…” In an instant, her eyes were wet.
Gabriella turned and caught sight of Joan standing nearby.
“Joan, you are a murderer! You are the one who killed my child! Joan, give my child back to me!”
Gabriella attempted to get out of bed.
Larry pulled Joan behind him and glared fiercely at Gabriella.
He had underestimated this woman; she was cruel enough to harm an unborn child.
“Larry, what are you doing?” Gabriella screamed as she cradled her belly. “We’ve lost our child
because of her! This b*tch, Joan Watts! Show yourself! Get lost, Larry!”
“Gabriella, it wasn’t me, it really wasn’t,” Joan said in a quivery voice.
“How dare you say it wasn’t you? Joan, my son is dead by your hand before even being born. What are
you going to do about it? An eye for an eye, as they say. It’s only fair. You owe me…” Gabriella
suddenly grabbed a drinking glass from her nightstand and flung it straight at Joan.
“Ah!” Joan’s forehead began bleeding.
“Joan, are you alright?” Larry gazed at her with sorrow-filled eyes.
Gabriella laughed coldly.
This was the man that I had loved for many years, but he doesn’t even care when his child is lost. This
b*tch just sustained a minor injury, and he looked so concerned!
“Larry, need I remind you that she was the one who had caused the death of our child?”
“What child is there between me and you?” Larry asked coldly.
Gabriella was taken aback but swiftly composed herself.
What does he know?
But it doesn’t matter now. The child is gone and there was no way to do any paternity testing. He
wouldn’t know whose child it was! A cold glint flashed across Gabriella’s eyes.
I will convince the world that this dead unborn child is Larry’s!
“Gabriella, what world are you living in? I know Joan’s character. She would never have laid a finger on
your womb!” Larry shouted severely.
What a lovesick idiot! Gabriella glared at him whilst gritting her teeth.
He trusts her to this extent!
Alright, Larry. If you trust her so much, I will make sure this b*tch suffers!
“Joan, why won’t you admit what you did? You know, I really respect you for needing a man to bear
your crimes for you.” Gabriella applauded sarcastically.
“Gabriella, I’m upset seeing you like this, but you couldn’t push the blame on me. You of all people
know how the child met its end. Why must you frame me? Why did you have to sacrifice a child for
nothing?” Joan said in a shaky voice.
At the thought of the child, Joan could not stop her tears from spilling.
That was a life within her! It was her flesh and bone! Joan clenched her fists with pain in her eyes.
But what good does denying it do? Who else was there at the scene? The kid was already asleep. Ms.
Young and Larry weren’t home. It was only me and that b*tch in the living room. Who else could testify
on her behalf?
You b*tch, I’ve got you! Gabriella’s eyes flashed coldly.
“Gabriella, if you had a bit of a conscience, you would be remorseful for what you did earlier. It wasn’t
anybody else’s child. It was your own!” Larry said coldly.
Chapter 2035
“No, Larry. The child is yours as well. You’re the biological father. You can’t sit out of this one. I want to
sue her for the murder of my child and theft of my man!” Gabriella shrieked.
The nurse who was passing by jumped in fright at the sudden explosion of Gabriella’s voice.
Joan was shaking from head to toe. Her eyes were filled with tears.
Larry, who was by her side, gave a sarcastic laugh.
What a joke. How dare she blame another for something that she had done with her own hand?
Accusations like these require proof!
“Gabriella, you keep saying that Joan was the one to kill your baby. What proof do you have?” Larry
said at length.
Gabriella knew he would ask that. She had prepared for this eventuality.
“I agree with you. Joan, you’re innocent, aren’t you? Let’s look for some evidence!” Gabriella said
severely.
What evidence will she procure? The pair of scissors was used by Gabriella herself. What other
evidence does she require? Joan clenched her fists. She had a bad feeling about this.
Gabriella seemed extremely sure of herself to make such bold claims. Larry’s eyes flashed uneasily.
That’s not right, it shouldn’t be! If Gabriella was the one to have done it, she would be scared at the
mention of producing evidence! Larry stroked his chin as he glared suspiciously at Gabriella.
What else does she have up her sleeve? Larry frowned slightly.
Gabriella never made claims to things that she wasn’t sure of.
This woman must have something else in store. Larry’s eyes flashed coldly.
“What is it? Are you scared? Joan, if you are scared, please surrender your crimes to a police station. If
you don’t intend to repent, then do not blame me for being ruthless by sending the evidence to the
cops,” Gabriella said coldly.
When was she ever not ruthless with me? Has empathy ever existed between the both of us? Joan
twisted her hands in distress, not because of the so-called evidence, but because she was unable to
get the image of Gabriella stabbing her stomach with the scissors out of her head.
“Gabriella, I do not know what evidence you have, but I will never admit to something I did not do,”
Joan said determinedly after composing herself.
Hmph! What a stubborn b*tch. She knows very well that I am torturing her and framing her, but she still
would not give up! Gabriella glared at her with disdain.
“All will be revealed by examining the surveillance tapes. Larry, have a look and you’ll learn the truth,”
Gabriella said calmly.
Her cool tone of voice was making Larry very uneasy.
There was surveillance cameras in Ms. Young’s living room? Larry gazed suspiciously at Joan.
Joan felt trapped too. She had never heard of any surveillance equipment being installed in Delilah’s
living room.
“There is no surveillance at home,” Joan replied quietly as she shook her head.
Gabriella laughed coldly.
“How was that possible? Ms. Young was the richest woman in the entire village. Of course, she would
have a surveillance system in place,” Gabriella said deliberately.
Joan hurriedly fished out her phone and strode out of the ward.
“Hello, Ms. Young? Do we have a surveillance system at home?” Joan asked urgently.
“What is it, Joan? Why do you sound so anxious? Yes, we do. I had installed one in the living room but
it hasn’t been in use. Now that things were becoming less peaceful, I had turned it on. But how do you
know that we have a surveillance system in our living room?” Delilah said at length.
It was true!
In an instant, Joan’s eyes grew dim.
She did not understand how it was possible for Gabriella to know about the surveillance system. What
did she do this time? Joan was beginning to feel the sense of unease too.
Chapter 2036
Since the system had been in place, it was possible that the events of the day would have been
recorded. In an instant, Joan’s eyes lit up.
“Larry, there really is a surveillance system in place at home. I did not lay a finger on Gabriella,” Joan
said in a low voice.
“The camera has recorded everything. Just go have a look,” Gabriella taunted them again.
Larry looked at Joan and then at Gabriella and hesitated.
Gabriella would not allow them to see the footage that easily unless she had prepared everything
beforehand. If he took the bait, it would only harm Joan.
“What is it, Larry? Are you going to cover up for her?” Gabriella asked viciously.
“Alright, we’ll look at the surveillance records,” Joan suddenly said determinedly.
Excellent! Gabriella clenched her fists and stared menacingly.
“Wait, Joan. I think…” Larry hesitated.
“Larry, if you don’t believe her, we don’t have to look at the records. We can just send her to the police
station.”
D*mn Gabriella and her bullshit. Joan is the person I trust the most in the world. This woman is
exceptionally skilled in the art of instigation. Larry clenched his fists hard as his eyes flashed coldly.
What a thick-skinned woman. She knows that she was in the wrong and is still trying to attempt a
deception with the surveillance footage.
“Alright, we’ll look at the records.” Larry pulled Joan by the arm and departed. Soon, all three were in
the car on the way to Delilah’s house.
Godd*mn scumbag. Do you only have that b*tch in your heart? The woman you should be protecting
and caring for is me! Gabriella’s eyes flashed coldly.
The jealousy between women was more vicious than the duels between men on the battlefield. Cruel
women like Gabriella were especially so.
She did not care if it broke the law because she was confident that she would tie up all loose ends. But
in truth, there would always be a trail left to be picked up on that would lead straight back to her.
So, all that was left to do was to sit and wait.
“Don’t worry, Joan. I trust you. You are not the kind of person who would do something like that.” Larry
hugged Joan tightly and spoke softly in her ear.
For some unknown reason, Joan was feeling extremely uneasy. She did not do anything at all but
couldn’t help feeling worried. Gabriella was no ordinary person. If she did not have absolute confidence
in the situation, why did she brazenly offer up the surveillance footage?
Joan’s eyes flashed coldly.
If the surveillance system had been manipulated, what would I do then?
“What is it, Joan? Are you feeling ill?” Larry gazed at her in a panic.
“It’s nothing, I just…” Joan hesitated.
“Hmm?” Larry gazed at her expectantly.
But what am I supposed to say? Am I supposed to confess that I’m scared and uneasy? But what was
the reason for those emotions? But if I didn’t do anything wrong, why should I be afraid?
“What’s going on, Joan? You look distracted. Are you feeling remorse?” We can go back, you know,”
Gabriella sneered.
We’re already here. Why would we go back?
“Don’t worry, Joan. I’m here and I will protect you.” Larry touched Joan’s hair gently.
D*mn it!
Gabriella clenched her fists and grimaced in anger at the couple.
What about me? That scumbag does not care about me at all! Gabriella turned away so as to not have
to look at them.
At last, the car pulled to a stop, and the three of them arrived at Delilah’s home.
There was no one in. Delilah had not returned, and Lucius had left for school. It was the perfect time to
watch the surveillance footage.
Chapter 2037
Beep!
Gabriella snatched her phone up and glanced at it. It was a text. After scanning the brief text,
Gabriella’s lips curled with satisfaction.
“Alright. Since we’re here, it’s time to watch the footage,” Gabriella said deliberately.
The earlier the better. So Larry can leave that b*tch sooner.
She is a devious fox but is still trying to act like an innocent flower. What a b*tch! Gabriella had a mean
and hungry look in her eyes.
“Come, Larry. Let’s not waste time and watch the footage,” Gabriella said briskly.
Larry was vaguely uneasy at the sight of Gabriella’s brimming confidence. He felt that Gabriella
wouldn’t give up this easily, and certainly won’t be this docile and obedient.
Finally, the screen flickered to life.
But it was not what Joan had expected.
“No, Larry, it wasn’t like this,” Joan said in a panic. “I was very far away from her at the time, but this
footage…” Joan hesitated.
It was obvious. Somebody had manipulated the footage.
Stupid b*tch! Your innocence will be the death of you! Gabriella glared at her fiercely but said nothing.
The truth was displayed in front of them. Gabriella wanted to see what Larry would decide and how he
would choose. One thing is for sure: I will ruin Joan’s life!
“Larry, you wanted evidence, here it is. What else do you have to say? Joan, you’re a killer and this is
the proof. What’s the matter? Are you still going to deny it?” Gabriella glared at her with disdain and
hatred.
“No, I did not kill your son. Larry, you have to believe me. It wasn’t me who did it! I stood very far away
from her at that time. She stabbed herself with a pair of scissors. It really wasn’t me…” Joan sobbed as
she tried to explain herself.
Larry’s eyes grew dim.
The Joan in his heart was kind, innocent, and elegant. She wouldn’t have concerned herself with these
worldly matters. But how would she explain what the tape showed?
The video was crystal clear. Joan and Gabriella were fighting over something when suddenly Joan’s
face turned into a sickly green color as she grabbed the pair of scissors from the desk and plunged it
deep into Gabriella’s belly.
If it wasn’t true, how could she explain the existence of this video? And it was in such high definition,
too. If somebody had manipulated it, Larry would have identified it at once, given his skill. But he didn’t.
Of course he wouldn’t be able to. The person Gabriella had hired was a world-class professional. The
whole point was to deceive Larry.
“Joan, are you still going to deny it? You’re a shameless woman. How could you be so cold when
human life is at stake? Answer me this. If the woman in the footage is not you, who else could it be?
Could it be two of me?” Gabriella asked coldly.
Joan was momentarily lost for words.
The woman in the footage was indeed her, but she could not understand how this image was conjured.
“Gabriella, you’re obviously framing me to bear the cost for your crimes. You are cruel!” Joan pointed
an accusatory finger at Gabriella.
Oh, this is just the appetizer. I have more in store for you, b*tch! Gabriella clenched her fists and
walked slowly toward Joan.
“What is it? Would you like to turn yourself in, or would you like me to send you to the cops?”
“Larry, are you suspecting me of manipulating the footage? I was at the hospital the entire time. You
know that, you were there with me. How could I have the time to set her up? Besides, why would I
need to do any of those? These are facts! Everything you saw in the footage is facts! I don’t care. Joan
will get what she deserves in the eyes of the law.” Gabriella shouted.
Chapter 2038
She really wants me dead, doesn’t she? A trace of terror flashed across Joan’s eyes.
Why is Gabriella so aggressive? We’re both women and we even used to be close. Why must she turn
things between us ugly?
“Gabriella, give me three days to discuss with Joan whether to get a divorce or turn herself in. After
three days, I’ll definitely give you an answer,” said Larry slowly.
He could not think of any other solution at that moment other than buying himself some time to find out
the truth in the shortest time possible.
“Okay, Lars, three days it is then. I don’t like delays, so I hope you can be a man of your word. I give
you three days because it’s you. Anyway, I’m tired. I’m leaving.” After speaking, Gabriella turned and
left.
Joan instantly plopped down on the sofa with a blank look on her face.
“Joan, are you okay?” Larry looked at her worriedly.
How could I be okay and happy when I’m being accused of doing something I didn’t do? Besides, this
man seems to be suspicious of me. Joan was disheartened.
“Tell me, Larry, you don’t believe me anymore, do you?” she asked cautiously.
At this, Larry hesitated and shifted his gaze.
How can I believe her? There’s evidence. He sighed.
“Mom, I’m back,” Lucius suddenly shouted.
Joan hurriedly rose to her feet and made a dash for her room, trying to pick herself back up.
“Oh, Dad? Why are you back so early today?” The boy gave Larry a doubtful look as Larry did not go
home until midnight recently because of his work.
Why must I turn myself in? I’m innocent! I did nothing! Joan inwardly yelled.
You damned b*tch are so stubborn! You should just admit it at this point! A smirk crept over Gabriella’s
face. Oh, Larry, you need to make a decision now!
“Joan, did you really not do anything? But why would there be such surveillance footage?” There was a
hint of disappointment and a deep sense of disbelief in Larry’s voice.
Before that, he was certain that it was not Joan’s doing, but the surveillance footage at that moment
proved otherwise. What should I do? It won’t do Joan any good if things blow up.
“Say it, Gabriella, how do you want to deal with this?” Larry asked through his gritted teeth.
Very simple. Send her to the police and ruin the b*tch’s reputation! Gabriella clenched her fists with a
cold look in her eyes.
Larry slowly walked up to her and gave her a serious look.
“What do you want?”
There’s only one thing I want—it’s you, Larry!
“I want you to divorce Joan and marry me. That’s it,” replied Gabriella coldly.
“No way. Joan will always be my only wife,” the man declared sternly.
It was absolutely impossible for him to divorce Joan. It was his limit. As he had promised, he wanted to
protect and take care of her forever.
“Alright then, send her to the police.” It was a simple yet powerful response.
