Ch. 2261..2270
Chapter 2261
“Who’s with you right now? Where are you? What are you doing?”
“I’m at the beach with Dustin now. Don’t worry. I’m fine, Ms. Young,” she quickly answered, afraid that
Delilah would get angry again if she didn’t make herself clear.
“When will you be back?”
“I won’t be going back now. I’m heading straight to work at the supermarket after this, so I’ll only be
home once I get off work.”
Oh? This girl is getting bolder.
“No way. Come home now and get changed!” Delilah shouted before hanging up the call.
This is the last chance I’m able to fight for you, Larry. If you don’t make the best of it, you’ll have to
settle it on your own.
She pursed her lips and walked into the kitchen.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” Dustin asked.
“It’s nothing. Ms. Young wants me to go home,” Joan replied.
Well, it’s true that I have to change my clothes. Otherwise, the staff working at the supermarket will
start some weird rumor when they see Dustin and me wearing the same clothes from yesterday.
Besides, there are a few chicks at the supermarket who have their eyes on Dustin. I wouldn’t dare to
offend them.
Larry had been tossing and turning in his bed the whole night. The sun was already shining brightly
outside, but he had no intention of getting up at all.
He was waiting for the woman to come home.
“Time for breakfast, Larry!” Delilah shouted from the kitchen.
“Coming,” he quickly answered but didn’t get up from his bed.
“Do you want Joan to make fun of you when she comes home later? Get up now!” Delilah purposely
added.
Hmm? Joan’s coming home?
Larry instantly got up and ran to the washroom to wash up.
“Grandma, didn’t Mom come home last night? Where did she go?” Lucius asked.
Coincidentally, Joan arrived when the boy finished speaking. Before she could even answer, Larry was
already downstairs. He asked while looking at her miserably, “I’ve been waiting for you all night, Joan.
Where have you been?”
Why were you even waiting for me? To explain the scandal in the news?
The woman shot him a dirty look but said nothing.
Larry’s heart clenched when she gave him such a cold response. “Can you listen to my explanation
first? It’s not what you think it is. There’s really nothing going on with Jessica and me,” he tried to
convince her.
Nothing’s going on? You kissed! How open-minded of you if you think that way.
A cold glint flashed across Joan’s eyes. She didn’t want to listen to anything that came from him, even
if it was about matters concerning her.
She was tired and wanted to take a rest.
“Joan!” Larry grabbed her arm and yelled right when she was about to leave.
“What are you trying to say? I don’t want to hear any of your explanations. I’m busy, mister. Can you let
go of my arm now?” she said coldly.
Seeing that she was actually angry, Larry started to get mad as well.
“And what about you? Where have you been last night? You were with Dustin, weren’t you? Did you go
to a hotel with him again?” Fury boiled in him every time he thought about her being with that man, and
he couldn’t contain his emotions anymore.
“Yes, I was with him. And I did go to a hotel with him! At least I dared to admit it. What about you? You
don’t even have the guts to admit to something you did. Do you still call yourself a man?” Joan
bellowed as she pried his hands off before turning to leave.
This was the first time Joan had been so angry at him.
She had never been so disappointed in the man.
“Hey, where are you going, Joan? You haven’t had breakfast yet!” Delilah shouted from the kitchen.
“I’m going to work. I’m not eating!” Joan answered without even turning back.
Larry was left frozen on the spot, looking lonesome.
How could she say that about me? I’m her husband. Shouldn’t she choose to believe me? A look of
agony appeared on his face as he held his head in his hands.
Chapter 2262
“It’s time to eat, Larry,” Delilah urged.
“I’m not eating,” he answered softly.
Delilah stared at the untouched food before her and sighed. Looks like this is all going to waste.
Meanwhile, at the supermarket, the staff were already in their assigned areas, waiting for the
customers’ arrival. Joan was checking the products on the shelves with a solemn look on her face.
“Are you okay, Joan?” her colleague asked worriedly.
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?” she answered with a smile.
Huh? What’s going on? Her husband is having an affair, yet she’s acting as though nothing happened.
Isn’t she moving on too quickly? Or maybe she’s already given up on him.
“You can tell me if you’re feeling distressed, Joan. We’ll all help you out. Well, actually, we’ve already
come up with a plan. As long as we have your permission, we’ll carry it out right away,” her colleague
said awkwardly.
“Tell me about it,” Joan responded as she read through the notebook in her hands.
“We’re planning to teach Larry a lesson,” the former answered.
Joan froze at her words but quickly recollected herself. “There’s no need for that. We have nothing to
do with each other from now on, so don’t do anything reckless.”
What? Her colleague stared at her in confusion. He’s the one who betrayed her. He should be taught a
lesson!
“Don’t be such a coward, Joan. You can’t let him off just like that.” The flustered colleague raised her
volume.
“What are you doing? Get to work!” Dustin yelled a short distance away.
The woman quickly left at that.
Of course, Joan wasn’t being a coward; she just couldn’t be bothered with it anymore.
In fact, she had everything planned out. Since Delilah owned another house in the village, she intended
to move there and cool her head off.
Perhaps during this period of time, staying away from him would be the best way to heal her emotional
wounds.
“Do you want to get lunch together?” Dustin asked as he walked over.
“You can go ahead. I’m not hungry. Besides, I need to settle some stuff later,” Joan answered.
She knew that Larry saw Dustin and Caiden as his love rivals. Even though there were some issues
with their relationship now, she didn’t want him to misunderstand her further.
Later on, she gave Delilah a call and told her that she was going to move out.
“You don’t have to go to such great lengths, Joan. It’s not a big deal. Why are you doing this?” the latter
said.
It’s not a big deal even though he cheated? Besides, if it was really a misunderstanding, why didn’t he
move away when Jessica kissed him? He even looked like he was enjoying the kiss!
“Ms. Young, I’ve already thought everything through. I want to move out. Please don’t tell Larry where
I’ll be. I need some time alone,” Joan insisted.
“Is that so? What about me? What about your child? Do you have the heart to leave us?”
“I am reluctant to leave you both, but you can come and visit me anytime you want. It’s your house
anyway,” Joan said.
She had already made up her mind, and nothing could change her decision. Delilah shook her head
and sighed. Has their marriage come to an end already? Is there really no chance of them getting back
together anymore?
Oh, Larry! You fool!
“Alright, Ms. Young, I’ll hang up now. I still have to work.”
“Okay,” Delilah answered with a nod.
Fine. I’ll just let her be. As long as she’s happy.
In the meantime, Caspian lounged on the hospital bed as he flipped through a magazine, clearly
displeased. Jessica was typing away on her laptop and would cast him a side-glance from time to time,
feeling upset.
Chapter 2263
Why is he still mad? It’s already been days, and I’ve told him that I didn’t do it on purpose.
The woman scratched the back of her head, feeling frustrated.
“Hey, Caspian. Do you wanna hear a joke?” she said.
“I’m reading a magazine,” he answered without hesitation.
This was the first time Caspian had rejected her.
In truth, however, he wasn’t feeling good about it either. Yet, whenever he thought of the kiss from the
news, anger burned in him. To make matters worse, the man who kissed Jessica was none other than
Larry.
“How long more are you going to stay mad at me? I already admitted to my mistake, so why do you still
act as though I owe you eight million?”
Finally, she snapped.
“It’s only five million at most,” the man retorted.
Jessica couldn’t control herself and burst out giggling. She didn’t expect him to be so humorous.
“It’s already been a few days. Why are you still mad?” she asked as she patted his shoulder.
“Really? Was it that obvious?” Caspian asked as he stared at the woman before him.
Duh! You’re always pulling a long face. What else could you be feeling if not mad?
“Alright. Don’t be angry anymore. It was just an accident,” she insisted.
Of course, that’s what both Larry and Jessica think, but not for some people. Caspian sighed at the
thought of it.
“What is it this time?” Jessica quickly asked.
“You better explain what actually happened to Joan for the sake of Larry. I’m sure both of them are still
in a fight,” he told her softly.
No way… Larry and Joan have such a strong bond. How is it possible that there isn’t even the least bit
of trust between them?
“Oh, please. Their relationship’s indestructible. Besides, they’re married. Why would Joan be doubtful
of Larry all because of a piece of entertainment news?” Jessica mumbled, thinking that Caspian must
be overthinking it.
Caspian actually understood her quite well. Sometimes, she might act as though she didn’t care about
something, but in truth, it was quite the opposite.
“Are you a woman?” he asked.
What kind of question is this? Jessica’s expression turned ugly. Can’t he tell if I’m a woman?
“How can you not know how a woman’s mind works? Could it be that you haven’t been in a relationship
before? But that doesn’t make sense. There should be a lot of men pursuing a woman like you. Were
you never jealous when you were in your past relationships?” he asked.
Since when did he become so nosy? Jessica turned around, refusing to answer his question.
“Alright, then. Just stay away from Larry in the future,” Caspian deliberately changed the topic.
“What do you want to eat? I’ll go get it for you.” The woman didn’t want to continue the conversation
anymore. No way. I’m still waiting for Larry to make a comeback.
“Anything is fine.”
Anything again? Jessica’s eyes dimmed. It was all because they ate at a random restaurant the other
day that she ended up drunk and did such an embarrassing thing.
Caspian was the only one left in the ward. He had his phone in hand and was hesitating to make a call.
However, he ended up dialing the number anyway.
“What is it?” The familiar voice sounded sweet as always, and the corner of his lips tilted upwards upon
hearing it.
I guess she’s doing well. She must be living a happy life with Jory now.
“Um, you should go visit Joan if you have the time,” he said.
What’s going on? What happened to Joan? Did she fight with Larry again?
“What happened? Spit it out!” Nancy ordered firmly.
As expected, she didn’t read the news.
“What? He cheated on her? How is it possible? Larry would never do something like that. These
reporters are so full of crap!” the woman couldn’t help growling.
Chapter 2264
“That’s why I think Joan is really upset now. You should go and talk to her.”
“I don’t think so. Joan isn’t the petty type, alright? She trusts Larry fully. Most probably, you are the one
who overthinks,” Nancy responded without much care.
Caspian grew fed up with her carefree attitude. She’s behaving exactly like Jessica! No wonder Jessica
mentioned that she likes her.
“Please go and check on her, just in case!” Caspian could no longer hold back his anxiousness.
“Wow. Caspian, are you raising your voice at me? How dare you? Are you over your head because of
Jessica?” Nancy provoked deliberately, discontent with his attitude.
Caspian was evidently into Jessica, but it seemed too soon to assume that they would end up together.
“Alright, I got it. I will leave shortly.” Upon saying that, Nancy hung up the phone abruptly.
The media nowadays is truly corrupted. How could they publish such a rumor without confirming its
validity?
Once again, Nancy turned on her phone and made a call.
“Where should we meet? Okay. I will go there after work. Yeah, I miss you too. It has been so long.” It
was Joan’s voice at the other end.
Joan was not surprised by Nancy’s sudden invitation, as she figured the latter most probably wanted to
persuade her to trust Larry. However, deep down in her heart, all these were unnecessary anymore.
Right after work, Joan headed to a restaurant.
“Hi, Joan. Long time no see. Shall we have a drink together?” Nancy greeted her with a friendly smile.
Joan immediately voiced her concern. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. Aren’t you pregnant?”
“Joan, what are you talking about? I meant coffee. Did I say wine?”
In an instant, Joan’s face reddened from embarrassment.
During that hour, the restaurant was relatively peaceful as there were not many customers. Even the
upbeat jazz music from the day shift had been replaced by some melancholic cello pieces.
“Joan, I have always been a straightforward person. Since you’re here, I will get right to the point. I
have heard all about you and Larry. I want to say that I know him well enough to know that he is not…”
“Nancy!” Before the woman could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by Joan.
“It’s been ages since we last met. Let’s not talk about this today,” she begged in an earnest tone.
Gazing at the pale and vulnerable woman in front of her, Nancy could not help but show compassion.
Fine. Let’s give her a break and talks about something happy.
“Okay then. Why don’t we go shopping after we grab something to eat?”
“Can your body bear it? Won’t it be too tiring for you?” Joan hesitated.
“Joan, you’re underestimating me. Don’t worry!” Nancy patted her own chest confidently.
The situation is trickier than I expected. I don’t understand why Larry did not push Jessica away when
she kissed him.
However, little did they both know that Jessica had been extremely inebriated during the incident. If
Larry had not held her, she would have collapsed to the ground.
“Joan, would you like to name my baby?” Nancy grabbed Joan’s arms and suggested playfully.
That sounds like a difficult task. Joan cast an awkward smile at her.
“Don’t you think it is better to leave the naming to the grandparents? Or maybe you could wait for me to
search through some books for great name suggestions.”
“Sure, no problem. Come on, let’s go to the lady’s department!” Nancy waved her hand towards Joan.
After they shopped for a short hour, they parted, and Joan headed home. The moment she opened the
front door, she saw Larry waiting for her on the couch.
“You’re back.” Larry greeted her quickly, but he was ignored by Joan, who walked right into the
bedroom.
“Dad, is Mom okay? Is she not feeling well?” Lucius, who was playing in the living room, felt that his
mother’s behavior was strange.
Chapter 2265
Larry seemed somewhat embarrassed by his son’s question. “I guess so. She’s been tired recently. Let
me check on her.” Upon saying that, he stood up and headed to the bedroom.
“Joan, are you alright?” he spoke as gently as he could. But in Joan’s eyes, his gentleness was to no
avail anymore.
Surprisingly, Joan responded, “I’m fine. I want to nap for a while.”
She finally responds!
Larry could not suppress his excitement. “Joan, about last time, it was all my fault. Please don’t
overthink things. I…”
“It’s fine. I could care less.” Joan did not let him finish his sentence.
What does she mean it’s fine? Does she mean she no longer cares for me? At that moment, Larry was
at a loss. Has she given up on me?
“Joan, I feel like I should explain things to you. That day, I went out with Jessica…”
“Larry!” Out of a sudden, Joan gave a loud shout and sat right up on her bed.
The man’s heart skipped a beat at her loud voice as she had never shouted at him like this.
“Yes?”
“Larry, can you stop trying to explain things? I don’t want to hear it. I am exhausted, and I want to rest.
Can you leave me alone?” Joan begged desperately while her eyes brimmed with tears.
But I want to talk to her. Why won’t she give me a chance to properly explain things on my end? At that
instant, Larry’s eyes darkened and his face devoid of expression.
“Fine. I will leave you alone.”
Joan rubbed her forehead to ease her headache and then laid down again, trying to clear her thoughts.
“Dad, is Mom alright?” Lucius was waiting in the living room when Larry exited the bedroom, concerned
about his mother.
“Yup, she’s just tired. She is asleep now.” Larry comforted his worried son.
Joan did not come out for dinner that day. Neither Larry nor Delilah went to wake her up. They knew
that it was best to leave her alone during this period.
“Ms. Young, I’m heading to the company.” After dinner, Larry informed Delilah before leaving.
The older woman was puzzled for a moment. Why is he going to the company at this late hour?
“It’s already so late. Why don’t you wait till tomorrow morning? You should stay here and accompany
Joan.” Delilah tried to change his mind, providing reasoning.
“I still have a lot of work to complete. Besides, she doesn’t want to see me either.” Larry glimpsed at
Joan’s room with a disappointed expression.
Instead of seeing her suffer, he figured it might be better to give her some personal space until she was
ready to talk to him again.
However, Larry was unaware of Joan’s decision of moving out.
“Are you sure you want to leave?” Delilah asked again.
“Yes.” Larry took his coat and left.
Delilah shook her head while helplessly staring at the man’s figure. Young people nowadays are really
complicated. A careless mistake is enough to ruin a relationship.
After all, life was all about letting go of what was lost and appreciating what was left.
Joan was someone who had gone through tremendous betrayals. She had lost her faith in love and
human relationship. She swore to herself that she would never waste time on anyone unworthy. From
that moment on, she would only care for those who cared for her.
A few moments later, Delilah walked over to Joan’s room and knocked on her door. “Alright. Joan, you
can come out now and have dinner. Larry has left.”
“Ms. Young, it’s fine. I’m not hungry,” Joan replied in an extremely weak voice.
Wait a second. Her voice doesn’t sound right. Is she sick? Delilah opened the door and walked to her
bedside. “Joan, are you okay?”
“I’m fine. I just need to rest.” The woman on the bed furrowed her brows slightly while answering.
Delilah observed Joan’s face sternly. She says she’s fine but she looks as though she’s in pain. Does
she have a fever?
“Ouch…” The next second, Joan hold her belly tightly and groaned.
“Joan, get up. Let’s head to the clinic. Are you having a stomachache?”
“Ms. Young, my belly hurts so much. I can’t get up. Ms. Young, I can’t bear it.” Joan was struggling
weakly on her bed.
Chapter 2266
“Hold on. I will call the doctor right now.” Delilah rushed out of Joan’s room.
This is serious! No wonder she didn’t want to eat dinner! Larry is such a careless man. He was in the
room for over half an hour, yet he did not notice her discomfort.
Delilah was on her way to find the doctor when she coincidentally ran into Dustin.
“Ms. Young, what happened? Why are you in such a hurry?” the man asked.
“Sorry, I don’t have time to talk. Joan’s stomach is hurting badly. I need to go find the doctor,” Delilah
responded while still running in panic.
“Ms. Young! I will go and find the doctor. It will be faster if I drive. You go home and take care of Joan!”
Dustin shouted without hesitation.
At that instant, Delilah felt as though her burden was half relieved. “Okay! Please hurry!”
Back in the room, Joan was tossing and turning in her bed, groaning in agony. She wanted to scream,
but she was drained of all energy.
Beside her, she could feel Lucius holding her hand tightly while trembling in fright. “Mom, hold in there.
Grandma will be back soon with the doctor.”
It’s Lucius!
Joan struggled to look at her son’s face, but she could barely keep her eyes open.
“Mom, it’s me, Lucius. I am right here. Don’t worry. I won’t leave you,” Lucius whispered while
caressing her face.
“Good boy. Mom loves you the most.” Joan choked on her words. Perhaps besides Lucius and Ms.
Young, there is no one else left in my world.
“Son, promise me you will be good and listen to your Grandma. She is old already. Don’t make her
angry, understand?” Joan started to mumble in front of Lucius.
Lucius suddenly burst into tears. “Mom, why are you talking like this? You will be fine. Stop talking. The
doctor will be here shortly.”
In fact, Joan was trying to distract Lucius, as she did not want him to worry about her. However, Lucius
mistook those for her last words.
“Silly boy, why are you crying? I’m just not feeling well. Come on. A boy should be strong and not cry.
You won’t be able to find a girlfriend in the future if you cry,” Joan continued to say.
“I don’t want any girlfriend. I only want Mom!”
What a touching moment! This is indeed a warm scene! Just then, Delilah walked into the room slowly,
wiping the tears on her face away.
She patted Lucius’ shoulder to comfort him. “Good boy. Mom will be fine. It’s just a stomachache. Don’t
cry anymore.”
Dustin fulfilled his promise efficiently, and the doctor reached the house after a short while. “Don’t
worry. It is not a big deal. She has a mere cold. She should be recovering as she rests.”
Delilah and Dustin breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that piece of good news.
“Mom, how are you feeling now?” Lucius was still slightly worried about his mother.
“Lucius, come over here. Your mom has just drunk her medicine. Let her rest.” Dustin stopped him.
“Doctor, thank you so much.” On the other hand, Delilah was escorting the doctor to the door.
“You’re most welcome. Remember not to let her overwork herself. Remind her to keep a good mood,”
the doctor reminded Delilah before he left.
A good mood seems like a mission impossible for her right now. Delilah sighed.
In the room, Dustin and Lucius were standing at the corner. Looking at Joan, who was sleeping
soundly, the two of them felt helpless and worried.
“Mr. Dustin, Mom’s body is weak, so she can’t go to work for a few days.” Lucius raised his head to
look the man in the eyes as he spoke.
Of course, I won’t let her go to work. To me, there’s nothing that matters more than her.
“Ms. Young, where’s Larry? Have you called him?” Dustin questioned in a low voice.
Delilah shook her head and gave a long sigh.
“It’s better not to call him. Joan doesn’t want to see him right now,” she replied softly.
Chapter 2267
It seems like both of them have not settled their conflict. After all, how could Joan easily forgive her
husband’s affair with another woman?
“Okay. When she wakes up, please inform her that she doesn’t need to go to work these few days. Ask
her to rest well.” Having said that, Dustin left the house.
Delilah was in favor of Dustin in terms of his caring ways for a woman. Even though Joan did not
accept his goodwill, he still treated her well.
After Dustin left, Lucius turned to ask Delilah, “Grandma, Mom will be okay, won’t she?”
“Lucius, don’t worry. Your mother will be fine. You should go and do your homework now.” Delilah
caressed Lucius’s hair gently. She was heartbroken looking at the boy, who had cried so hard in fear of
losing his mother.
Meanwhile, Larry was sitting on his office desk, going through piles of documents. Nonetheless, he
could not get his mind off Joan. I don’t know if she will ever forgive me? When will she be willing to
listen to my explanation?
During that moment, he was feeling angry, but at the same time, helpless.
“Oh my. Are you alright? Are you still upset?” A moment later, Jessica entered his office without even
knocking.
What’s she doing here again? Larry felt his head began to throb.
Whenever he met this woman, something bad would always happen.
“I’m swamped right now. I don’t have time to entertain you. Please leave,” he stated rudely.
Jessica knew he was deeply troubled by the scandal on the news. Who would have thought such a
bizarre thing would happen. However, she had gone over to his office to genuinely help him out.
Jessica patted on his shoulder. “Let me talk to Joan. Don’t worry. I will explain everything to her.”
Huh? Since when did she become so kind? Larry confusedly raised his head and looked at her
skeptically.
“What’s with that look? You don’t believe me, do you? Then let me be frank with you. From now on, I
am not into you anymore. You are no longer my type,” Jessica stated steadily.
What is going on? Is she for real? I doubt so. How could she change her heart so fast?
Larry stared at her with befuddlement, his expression exposing all his doubts.
He cut to the chase, asking, “Have you fallen in love with another man already?”
If she really falls for another rich kid, I’m afraid Caspian would have no chance left. With his friend in
mind, Larry was bothered that Jessica might end up becoming another man’s possession.
“Wait a second. What do you mean? In your eyes, am I the type that can’t survive without a man?
Maybe I just wanna let aside my personal relationships and focus on my career.” Jessica seemed
utterly offended.
I see. There shouldn’t be any worries if that’s the case. I can gain myself another good business
partner, too.
“Yeah? Are you planning to start your own career? Great. You have my support,” he responded swiftly.
That’s nice of him. I could use some support if I were to start a business.
“What about you? Honestly, I feel guilty about this. How’s Joan? Has she forgiven you yet? Have you
explained it to her? What if I go talk to her?”
Even though Jessica might seem arrogant at times, she was not a bad person at heart.
As much as she was rational, she was also an ambitious woman. Her wish was not only for herself to
succeed but for the whole Zimmer family to thrive.
“There’s no need for that. Just wait for her anger to subside,” Larry responded. But little did he know
that Joan’s anger had severely affected her health.
“Are you sure? You must explain everything to her. I still need lots of your help in the future,” Jessica
deliberately added.
Larry understood fully what she meant. She was the only one left in the Zimmer family. All her relatives
were only interested in their own profits. If she were to seek their assistance, none would be willing to
lend a hand.
Needless to say, Larry was first on her list as her most trustworthy partner.
Chapter 2268
“Alright. Just continue to perform well. Maybe then I will consider helping you,” Larry joked.
Jessica refused to give in. “Who knows. I might not even need your help by then.”
The man smirked as he gave a resigned shrug. She is still so naive. She won’t come back unless she
meets a dead end. Fine. I will just let her try on her own, or else she would never know the cruel reality
in the business world.
“So, when do you plan to start?” Larry then asked casually.
“I will start making some calls firsthand tomorrow,” Jessica replied honestly.
She sure is efficient! She truly deserves to be the daughter of the Zimmer family. Larry’s lips curled into
a contented yet awkward smile upon hearing her contented smile.
However, little did they both knew what bad luck was awaiting ahead of her enthusiastic plan.
“Since you don’t need any of my help, I will leave. Call me if you need me.” Upon saying that, Jessica
walked out of the office.
She intended to ask Joan out as she felt the urge to explain the truth, but it seemed unnecessary at the
moment.
Jessica, you are indeed a true friend! Larry displayed a contented smile on his face, but it disappeared
seconds later as he thought about his dear wife again.
Joan, we have been through so many ups and downs in life together, yet you lost your trust for me over
an unintended kiss…
During that moment, the man’s figure looked utterly decadent and lonely.
The next morning, Dustin was still worrying about Joan; hence he paid another visit. That was when
Joan told him about her decision to move out.
“Joan, have you thought it through?” Never had Dustin expected that she would make such a drastic
decision.
“I have. Dustin, I only let you know because I trust you. You should know better than no one should find
out where I am,” Joan said faintly.
Although seemingly worried, Dustin was secretly elated in his heart. In fact, this was a window of
opportunity that he had been waiting for.
Even though Joan had stated clearly that she would not want to be interrupted, she had still told him
her new address. This detail alone would make him feel overjoyed for the entire day.
“I got it. You focus on getting some rest and recovering well. Don’t bother about the work in the
supermarket. All the colleagues understand your situation well.” Dustin patted gently on her back while
comforting her.
“Mom, where are you going? Why don’t you bring me along? I want to go with you.” Right then, Lucius
hopped into Joan’s embrace, his eyes pleading.
Joan was lost for words, looking utterly dispirited. She could not bear to leave the boy nor the house,
but she could not bear more to affect her son’s life with her trauma.
Joan squatted to face Lucius and caressed his head, saying, “Lucius, listen to me. I will only be gone
for a short while. I will bring you over as soon as I can.”
“Okay, Mom. Promise me you will come to get me once you settle down. I don’t want to part with you or
Grandma.”
Joan started packing everything from the room, leaving behind all stuff that belonged to Larry. Before
leaving, she gave a last glimpse at this familiar place.
“What’s wrong? Tell me now.” Looking at Jessica, who was sobbing endlessly in the ward, Caspian was
at a loss.
All he wanted to do at that very moment was to hug her tightly and kiss her forehead to comfort her.
Nevertheless, he was aware that the woman did not feel the same way towards him.
Eventually, he could only stay by her side and wait for her to finish crying.
“Tell me, what kind of people forsakes their own family? Shame on those bunches of ingrates! How
much help did my parents selflessly give them when they were alive? When I ask for their aid for the
first time ever, all of them shut their doors on me.” Jessica bawled her eyes out as she complained.
So that’s how what happened.
Caspian’s facial features remained expressionless.
Isn’t this normal in our community? It is human nature to be selfish and self-centered. There’s nothing
we can do about that. It seems that she’s still an innocent kid after all… She’s still ignorant of the real
world.
Chapter 2269
“Alright, stop crying. Don’t mind them anymore. I don’t believe you can’t succeed without their help.
Listen to me, Jessica. The more they look down on you, the more you should prove yourself to them!”
Caspian tried to cheer her up.
“You might be right. But sometimes, I really find it hard to get over this. Why does everyone have to be
so snobbish in this world?”
What a naive girl. She’s not at a young age anymore, yet she has no idea how the world runs.
Sometimes, even a stranger is closer than a relative. This sad truth happens to be a cruel reality in life.
On the other hand, there was one thing Jessica could not wrap her head around. It turned out when
she was down, the first person that came to her mind was Caspian but not Larry.
Forget it. I don’t want to think about anything anymore. This life is such a mess!
Jessica turned her face away from Caspian and starting munching on an apple.
“Uh… that apple’s mine…”
“So what? I am the one who bought it.”
Fine… As long as she’s happy. Caspian shrugged and shifted his gaze out of the window.
In fact, he was grateful for what happened. He used to have such an impetuous temper that he could
hardly settle his heart for anything. But after all these, he felt that he could finally think about his future
with a calmer mind.
“What happened? Are you crying?” Larry walked in and was slightly shocked by what he saw.
Jessica immediately wiped off the tears on her chin without saying a word.
Caspian looked at Larry and shrugged.
“Did anyone upset you?” Larry asked while slowly sit down on the couch beside the woman.
Jessica acted pissed while pointing her finger at Caspian. “Yes, I’m upset. This guy here disdains me
just because I ate his apple.”
What the hell? She is upset because of her shameless relatives. Why does she blame it on me now?
What an unpredictable woman.
“Caspian, now that is very unkind of you. Jessica comes almost every day to visit you, while those fruits
are either bought by her or me. How could you disdain her over this?” Larry joked sarcastically.
He knew Caspian well enough to know that the latter was most probably kidding with Jessica. He knew
there must be another reason that made the woman cry.
“Actually, I’m crying because of those relatives of mien. How can they treat me like this? Are they even
human?” Jessica took another bite of the apple, feeling utterly resented.
This was exactly how Larry had predicted it to be.
“Yeah? What then? What do you plan to do next?” he asked.
Jessica fell into silence for a long while, soon realizing that Larry was her last option.
“Mr. Norton, you are such a generous tycoon, at the same time with a perfect look and personality.
Plus, money keeps pouring into your pocket with every single minute passing. So, why don’t you help
me out?” Jessica coaxed genuinely.
Finally, she asks for help. Larry’s eyes secretly beamed with delight.
“So you finally tasted betrayal from the close ones, didn’t you? Let me tell you this. Not a single relative
of yours is better than Caspian. He was even willing to risk exchange his life for yours.” Upon speaking,
Larry blinked at the man lying on the bed.
Caspian avoided his eyes, his face blushing from shyness.
On the other hand, Jessica comprehended what Larry meant, but she could not determine if her
feelings towards Caspian were friendship or love. That was why she had acted dumb up till now.
Larry suddenly suggested a proposal, saying, “There is something you could do. List down the names
for those who ever borrowed money from your family, and I will collect those debts for you.”
“Are you serious? I’m afraid none of them will pay. Such petty beings. I highly doubt they would give me
a single penny,” Jessica mumbled in disagreement.
Chapter 2270
“It’s alright. I think they will have no choice but to pay. Let me help you with this. But remember, I’m only
doing this for Caspian’s sake,” Larry said.
The way of Larry’s hinting about Caspian could not be less obvious, but yet Jessica still chose to ignore
this fact. She sneaked a peek at Caspian and did not say a word.
“Alright, just do as Larry said.” At that moment, Caspian also tried to persuade Jessica.
“Um… Larry. Can you really get the money back?” Jessica sought reassurance.
“Why? Don’t you believe me? It is one’s right to demand payback for a debt. Your family is not a charity
organization, is it?” Larry expressed directly.
Upon hearing this, the woman seemed to gain back some confidence. Larry’s right. They should pay
back what they owe. I should not feel guilty about demanding them to do so.
With that thought in mind, she decided not to argue anymore. “Alright then. Thanks in advance.”
Meanwhile, Larry’s thoughts carried away again to his situation with Joan. He had not gone back for
several days, while he was unsure if Joan’s anger had subsided.
Fine… Let me go back tonight to check on her.
In the evening at Norton Residence.
“What did you say? Your mother moved out? Where did she go?” Larry was questioning in a loud
voice.
“Yes, Dad. Didn’t she tell you? She moved out three days ago.” Lucius dared not look at his father.
Damn it! Why did no one tell me about this? Where’s Ms. Young?
“Where’s Grandma?” he continued to ask.
“She’s busy cultivating the garden. Dad, have you been really busy? You have not come back for
dinner for a long while,” Lucius asked.
Yes, I’m busy. But that’s not the reason why I didn’t come home. It was because of Joan. Hold on a
second. Is she with Dustin now? Has she eloped with him?
Rage boiled in Larry as he clenched his fists tightly.
“Lucius, tell me something. Who did Mom leave with when she moved out?” Larry squatted before
Lucius.
“Mr. Dustin. He came to help her move stuff.” Lucius, who had a pure heart, failed to notice the
overwhelming rage within his father’s eyes.
Son of a b*tch! I knew it! Joan, I merely kissed another woman, yet now you are eloping with another
man!
Bang!
Larry drove a fist into the wall, and blood soon oozed out between his fingers.
Lucius was startled by his father’s behavior. “Dad, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me.”
“It’s fine, Lucius. I’m okay. Please go back to your room now, okay? Call me if anything happens.” Larry
could not believe he lost control in front of his son.
“Okay.” Lucius ran back to his room without much thought.
I have to find out the truth now! What exactly does she want? Is she intended to make me a cuckold
now?
Without wasting any time, the man sped his car to the supermarket.
“Oh my, isn’t that Larry? What is he doing here?”
“I have no idea. He’s looking for Joan, isn’t he?”
“Fortunately, Joan has left. She will be in deep shit if he finds her.”
Larry ran into the supermarket, but to his disappointment, there was no trace of his wife.
Where has she gone? His face was filled with discontent as he approached one of the female staff.
“Hello. May I ask where Joan is?”
To his dismay, the staff simply walked right past him. “Excuse me. You are in my way. Please move
aside, sir.”
What’s going on here? Larry could tell that something was off.
“May I know where Joan, the supervisor, is?” Larry moved on to another staff.
“I am sorry. Please make way. I’m in a hurry.” He was once again ignored by the other staff.
This is ridiculous. Don’t they recognize me? I’m Joan’s husband!
