After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 131

#131 “Don’t Mistake This for Trust.”

Alexander’s nerves were on the edge the entire flight. The plane seemed to crawl through the air, and every passing minute only amplified his anxiety. He was heading to Vegas. Sophia was in trouble, and that gnawed at him with every passing mile.

The moment the wheels hit the runway, Alexander practically bolted out of the plane. He had to get to Vegas, had to make sure Sophia was okay. The airport hustle and bustle faded into a blur as he raced to meet Evelyn at the hotel.

When he arrived, Evelyn was there, wearing a mix of worry and relief on her face. to her stood a guy with an easy confidence, the kind that usually comes from being close to someone important. Sandro, introduced him, Kyle’s cousin, the one who’d been hanging around with Sophia lately.

Alexander’s jaw clenched at the mention of Kyle’s cousin. Jealousy, sharp and unexpected, twisted in his gut. He tried to push it down and focus on the situation at hand, but it lingered like an unwelcome guest.

“Alexander, meet Sandro. He’s been looking out for Sophia,” Evelyn said, a hint of gratitude in her eyes.

Sandro extended a hand, a polite smile on his face. “Nice to meet you. Wish it was under better circumstances.”

Alexander shook his hand, forcing a nod. “Yeah, me too.”

The three of them huddled in the hotel room, maps and hastily scrawled notes spread across the table. Evelyn briefed Alexander on what she knew, her concern evident in the furrow of her brow.

“Sophia’s smart, Alexander. I am sure she is handling the situation while we are searching for her,” Evelyn reassured him.

“I know, I just… Did the kidnappers try to contact someone?” he muttered, frustration etching lines on his face.

“Yes, they contacted me. They want 5 million dollars in return,” said Sandro.

“And you didn’t tell me that from the beginning? I’ll pay the damn money. I can’t believe you didn’t catch on with this information.” Alexander hit the table.

“Alexander, calm down, we’re all worried,” said Evelyn in an attempt to defuse the situation.

“We should call the police. We can’t risk Sophia’s life, what if we give them the money and they don’t return her?” continued Alexander. The tension in the hotel room was thick enough to cut with a knife.

“That’s not a good idea. We won’t involve the police,” Sandro retorted firmly.

“Why the hell not?” Alexander demanded, his frustration bubbling over. Sandro’s eyes, steely and unyielding, met Alexander’s. “We can’t. There’s history here, a messy one.”

“What the hell could be more important than Sophia’s life?” Alexander shouted.

“They’re a mafia, and you won’t get her back, not if you involve the police, Alexander. It’s one of their conditions, “Sandro countered, his tone heavy with the weight of harsh realities.

Alexander, frustration bubbling beneath the surface, crossed his arms to contain the building tension. The situation was unraveling, and he felt like a ticking time bomb.

“There’s something you’re not telling me, isn’t there?” Alexander’s eyes bore into Sandro, a cold intensity in his gaze. “Why did they snatch her out of nowhere? And why the hell did they call you? What’s your connection in all this? 11

Sandro hesitated, his eyes flickering for a moment before he sighed, recognizing that withholding information wasn’t an option.

“Long story. The bottom line is getting Sophia out unharmed,” Sandro replied cryptically.

Alexander’s patience wore thin. ”

Answer the damn question. I want to help her, but I need the whole picture.

Now’s not the time to keep quiet about what’s messed up here.”

Sandro sighed again, a reluctant nod following. “We had a run-in with a thug named Daniel a few days back. He’s probably tied to this gang – the same gang that’s got Sophia. We’ve got some beef with them, business feuds, you know? Daniel saw Sophia with me and thought he could squeeze some cash out of me by grabbing her. Bringing in the cops will just stir the pot even more.”

The truth hung in the air, heavy and loaded. Alexander absorbed the information, his jaw clenching with anger.

Understanding dawned on Alexander’s face, but it brought no comfort. Sophia was kidnapped because of Sandro’s mess. Frustration boiled inside Alexander, and he unleashed it on Sandro.

“This is your fault, damn it! Sophia’s paying for your mistakes,” he accused, his voice laced with resentment.

Sandro’s eyes met Alexander’s accusing gaze, and for a moment, the room seemed to tighten. The air crackled as Alexander, fueled by frustration and concern for Sophia, continued to unleash his pent-up emotions.

“You should have dealt with your problems in a way that didn’t put her in danger,” Alexander spat out, his anger unrestrained. “What kind of mess did you get her into? If anything bad happened to her I swear to God, I will…”

“Enough, Alexander.” Evelyn intervened. “This is not helping. Please calm down, I know you are scared for her as we all are, but Sophia needs us to be united, not divided so we can save her.”

Alexander shot Evelyn a look. He was seeing, but he knew she was right.

“I’m really sorry, Alexander. I will do whatever is needed to save Sophia.” Sandro said.

Alexander, although still angry, realized the delicate web of connections that surrounded them. The cousin relationship between Sandro and Kyle added an intricate layer to the already complex situation. Despite the seething frustration, Alexander made a begrudging concession.

“I won’t call the cops for now,” Alexander grumbled, a reluctant agreement in his tone. “But if anything goes south, I won’t hesitate.”

With the plan set, Alexander decided to play the ransom game. “I’ll deliver the cash to their stupid spot. But one wrong move, and you have to dial 911.”

Sandro nodded, acknowledging the precariousness of their situation.

“We’re in this together, whether we like it or not,” Sandro muttered, a hint of reluctant camaraderie breaking through the strained atmosphere.

Alexander shot him a steely look. ” Don’t mistake this for trust. We’re just on the same sinking ship for now. Tell me when and where to deliver the money?

After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 132

#132 “Even if it’s the Last Thing I Do in this World.”

Alexander had reached the designated meeting place, the weight of the suitcase containing the ransom money making his palms sweaty. Gripping it so tightly that his knuckles turned white, determination etched across his face, he was resolved to leave with Sophia unharmed.

The sight of a dilapidated building in the middle of the desert didn’t surprise him; it fit the cliché of an abandoned warehouse. A wry smile played on Alexander’s lips as he approached the ominous structure with decisive steps.

Two guards stationed at the entrance greeted him, weapons raised in suspicion. Alexander, fully aware of the tense situation, raised his hands in surrender, a gesture signaling he posed no threat.

“Who are you?” the first guard barked.

“I’m Sandro’s man. I’ve come to pay what’s necessary to free Sophia,” Alexander declared.

“Stand still,” the guards commanded in unison, their weapons still trained on him. A radio call was made to their boss, informing him of Sandro’s representative.

“Who is there? Where’s Sandro Vitali?” their boss roared through the radio.

“Sandro sent me. I have what you need, “Alexander responded, shaking the briefcase for emphasis.

An excruciatingly long minute passed before Dante, the ominous figure in charge, emerged from the entrance, his gun ominously raised.

“Why didn’t Vitali come and do his dirty work himself?” Dante shouted. Alexander, maintaining his composure, replied, “What does it matter? I’m carrying the money, right?”

“Drop the suitcase and take a few steps back,” Dante ordered, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.

Alexander complied, carefully placing the suitcase on the ground and taking measured steps backward. The impact caused the briefcase to spring open, revealing the stacks of cash inside. Dante’s face lit up with a sinister smile upon seeing the money.

“Count them,” Dante commanded, closing the distance between them with a menacing stride. The tension in the air thickened as Alexander braced himself for the next critical moments.

The stale air hung heavy in the abandoned warehouse as the gang scrutinized the ransom money. They ushered Alexander in as they counted the money. There was nothing in the room but a table and a lamp that barely illuminated the room.

While the men were counting Dante kept his gun pointed at Alexander.

“Boss, they’re two million less,” announces one of the gang members. Dante’s expectations weren’t met, and frustration etched deep lines on his face.

“This ain’t enough! Sandro’s playing games!” Dante snarled, the disappointment palpable in his voice. Alexander, standing at a distance, held his breath, acutely aware that the situation was teetering on the edge. He took a step forward, his eyes locked on Dante.

“Listen, we can sort this out. How about you confirm Sophia’s safety first? I’ll transfer the remaining amount directly to your account once I know she’s okay,” Alexander proposed, trying to inject reason into the escalating chaos.

The gang members exchanged dubious glances, suspicion festering like a poisonous seed. They huddled in a tense discussion, their low murmurs echoing in the cavernous room.

“You’re trying to pull a fast one on us, aren’t you?” accused one of the gang members, eyeing Alexander with distrust.

“No, I swear. I just want to ensure Sophia’s safety. I’m not here to mess around,” Alexander pleaded, frustration bubbling beneath his controlled exterior.

Dante, seemingly unswayed, shot a piercing look at Alexander. “Transfer them to our account? What do you think I am, an idiot? The money for such transactions is cash only. How do you think such a transaction would look in the eyes of the IRS? You might be a spy sent by Sandro or the damn police.”

Alexander, now facing an escalating crisis, attempted to defuse the mounting suspicion. “I’m not a spy! I’m just trying to get Sophia back. We can figure out the money later.”

Despite his earnest explanations, doubt lingered in the gang’s eyes. In a swift and unexpected move, they pounced on Alexander, overpowering him. Ropes materialized from nowhere, and soon, Alexander found himself bound, his movements restricted.

“I don’t like snitches at all. And if you want to see Sophia so much, we will take you to her especially,” Dante declared, a cruel smirk playing on his lips.

The cold, hard ground met Alexander as he was unceremoniously forced to sit, his predicament echoing the grim reality of the situation.

*

In the dimly lit room, Sophia strained to hear the commotion outside, her worry escalating with every distant sound. Her attempts to maintain calmness seemed futile as uncertainty gnawed at her.

Suddenly, the door swung open, and a figure was pushed into the room. Sophia squinted in the dim light, disbelief washing over her as the familiar face became clear. It was Alexander. A whirlwind of emotions engulfed her – surprise, confusion, and a flood of questions bubbling within her.

“Alexander?” Sophia exclaimed, her voice a mix of shock and curiosity.”

What… How did you… Are you okay?”

Her eyes searched his face for answers, a myriad of thoughts racing through her mind. The unexpected sight of him in this dire situation left her both bewildered and worried.

As Alexander entered the room, his emotions were a tangled mess. Here was the person who had occupied his thoughts day and night, now right in front of him. The urge to embrace her, to provide some semblance of comfort, clashed with the reality of his bound hands. He dreaded the possibility of causing her discomfort, so he kept his distance for now.

Sophia’s eyes flickered with surprise, and Alexander could sense the flood of questions behind those searching eyes.

“I’m fine, how are you? Did they hurt you?” Alexander bombarded her with questions in turn.

“No,” Sophia whispered, still stunned that he was here.

Sophia’s gaze shifted from his eyes to the tightly bound hands behind his back. Concern etched across her face as she took in his constrained state.

“What happened? How did you end up here?” she inquired.

Alexander sighed, frustration evident in his expression. “It’s a long story. I came to pay the ransom to get you out safely. But they think I might be a spy or something, so here I am.”

Sophia’s eyes widened. “So, they tied you up? Alexander, you shouldn’t have done this.”

“I couldn’t leave you here alone, Sophia. I had to make sure you’re okay, “he explained, a determined glint in his eyes. “I promised you that I’d always help you, and I intend to keep that promise.”

“How did you even know what was going on?” Sophia continued her questioning, her eyes searching Alexander’s face for answers.

Alexander, still nervously examining every part of her, was frantically trying to ascertain if she was hurt. To his relief, she appeared physically unharmed.

“Evelyn called me, explained that you were kidnapped, and I came right away. I spoke with Sandro and found out that they had run-ins with Dante in the past. I brought some of the money, but I insisted on seeing you before I gave the rest. They were obviously not thrilled with my offer,” Alexander explained, attempting to inject a touch of humor, though the situation was undeniably dire.

“I’m so glad you’re okay, Sophia… When I heard you were kidnapped…” His voice trailed off, emotion evident in his eyes.

Sophia looked at him, struggling to absorb all the information. “They didn’t do anything to me, Alexander. I’m fine.”

Alexander sighed with relief, sitting on the floor beside her. They both fell silent, contemplating their next moves. Alexander nervously tapped his foot, stealing glances at Sophia.

He marveled at her calm expression, realizing that she was always strong even in the most critical situations.

“I’m going to get you out of here, Sophia, even if it’s the last thing I do in this world,” Alexander declared.

#133 “I Want You to Listen to Me Now.”

Evelyn drummed her fingers anxiously on the car’s dashboard, her eyes darting to her wristwatch every ten seconds.

“Please calm down, Alexander will handle it,” Sandro muttered, slightly nervous, after another tap on the dashboard.

“It’s been twenty-five minutes, I can’t calm down. Where are they?” Evelyn asked, biting her lip.

“I guess they’re negotiating,” Sandro replied under his breath.

“For what? They stated their conditions, we fulfilled them, they should have already left,” commented Evelyn.

“We haven’t fulfilled them exactly…”Sandro admitted.

“What does that mean?” Evelyn turned to him, a sting of concern in her voice.

“Everything is under control,” Sandro assured her, though he couldn’t stop glancing at the entrance to the abandoned warehouse.

“How can you tell me that everything is under control, that you have not fulfilled the conditions? What have you done?” Evelyn’s voice raised in frustration.

Sandro turned to Evelyn and sighed. ” We didn’t give them all the money. We wanted to make sure Sophia was okay before we gave them the rest.”

“Are you normal? That’s not what they asked for. Call the police immediately,” Evelyn demanded.

She retrieved her phone from her bag and handed it to Sandro, who hesitated.

“To wait before calling, we might complicate the situation,” Sandro reasoned.

“The situation is already complicated. Now call the police right away and tell them what’s going on.”

Sandro glanced at her, then towards the entrance, expecting Sophia and Alexander to appear at any moment. The clock ticked down another minute.

“Please, there’s my best friend,”

Evelyn said softly. “I can’t lose her.”

Sandro nodded and took the phone from her hands. He dialed 911, and as soon as he heard the dispatcher’s voice on the other end, he began to explain.

“I want to report a kidnapping…”

Sophia and Alexander, their minds racing with the urgency of escape, hastily moved around the room.

“Do you have a hairpin? We can try to pick the lock?” Alexander urgently proposed. Sophia, always a step ahead, chuckled and pointed to the floor next to the door, revealing a crumpled hairpin.

“Two steps ahead of you,” she quipped. “I have another hairpin, but breaking the door, and then what? The front is swarming with armed men; we can’t take them all down.”

“You’re right, but maybe…” Alexander began, his voice drowned out by a sudden, loud, and piercing sound.

“It’s sirens,” Sophia said, her eyes lighting up. “Evelyn and Sandro called the police.”

Before the elation could fully settle, the door burst open, and a group of men flooded in.

“Bring them out. Quick, quick, quick…”one of them barked.

The men swiftly seized Sophia and Alexander, hustling them down the hall. However, Alexander’s hands were still bound, causing him to stumble as they hurried.

“Walk normally,” one of the gang scolded him.

“I can’t, my hands are tied. I have no balance,” Alexander shouted back.

Annoyed, the man swiftly removed the ropes from Alexander’s hands, pushing him forward without mercy.

As they were escorted through the back entrance, Sophia’s eyes caught the sight of heavy rain outside. They were pushed across the wet sand toward a car not far away. The entire area was surrounded by police, and the sound of gunshots echoed in the tumultuous storm.

Through the relentless downpour, Sophia could barely make out the chaotic scene. Rain mixed with stinging sand, and the unforgiving wind whipped against them.

Alexander and Sophia were forcefully pushed into a waiting car. The door slammed shut, and the vehicle accelerated with sudden intensity, cutting through the storm and the chaotic confrontation outside.

As the car sped away, the chaotic symphony of rain pelting against the windows joined the frantic beating of Sophia’s heart. The rhythm of the storm outside seemed to merge with the echoes of her traumatic memories, each raindrop a reminder of the past she desperately tried to bury.

In the confined space of the car, Sophia’s breath quickened, and the walls of her chest felt like they were closing in. Panic tightened its grip, and she couldn’t escape the memories that clawed at her mind.

Alexander, seated beside her, sensed the shift in the atmosphere. His eyes, usually determined, now softened with concern. He noticed the subtle changes in Sophia’s demeanor and instantly remembered the last time they were in the car during a storm.

“Hey, Sophia, look at me,” Alexander urged gently, his voice a soothing anchor in the tempest of her thoughts.

Sophia’s gaze, clouded with distress, met his. She tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat.

“Take deep breaths, okay? I am here,” Alexander reassured, his hand gently resting on hers. He could feel the tremors that coursed through her.

“I can’t…no..” Sophia struggled to speak. Alexander raised his voice, “Sophia Johnson, you are the strongest person I know. I want you to listen to me now.”

After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 134

#134 “Please, don’t leave me.”

Amid the chaos, Alexander was determined to anchor Sophia in the present. He held her trembling hands firmly, the intensity of his gaze cutting through the terror that gripped her.

“I want you to take a deep breath,” Alexander commanded once more.

Sophia, her nails inadvertently digging into his hand in terror, felt the urgency in Alexander’s voice. She nodded, her breath shaky, and followed his command. As she exhaled, the blinding headlights of approaching vehicles illuminated the rain-soaked wreckage around them.

The screech of tires echoed, and the driver skillfully maneuvered to avoid colliding with another car. It was a desperate attempt to elude the relentless pursuit of the police.

Sophia’s gasp was drowned by the chaotic symphony of rain and sirens.

“Sophie, I promise as soon as we’re out of here, I’ll make you my life-saving sandwiches every day.”

Alexander’s words cut through the tension, offering a glimpse of a reality beyond the immediate crisis. Sophia pressed into him for comfort and felt a small smile tug at the corners of her lips despite the chaos around them.

“I’ll also buy some of that horrible candy you like from a carnival. Do you remember them?” Alexander continued his voice a gentle reassurance.

Sophia managed a barely perceptible nod, the traumatic memories beginning to yield to the images Alexander painted for her.

“I’ll take you to these carnivals, I’ll even drink beer to keep you company, I’ll dress in jeans and a t-shirt and not wear a suit. So I want you to stay calm because we’re going to get out of here. Breathe deeply.”

Sophia felt a soft laughter bubble up within her at his words, a release from the tension that gripped her. New headlights emerged on the opposite side, and she instinctively buried her face in Alexander’s chest.

He caressed her hair, whispering soothing words that cut through the chaos, creating a bubble of solace within the storm. In that fleeting moment, Alexander’s promises became a lifeline, a vision of a future beyond the immediate peril they faced.

The rain-drenched highway blurred as the speeding car raced through the storm, desperately fleeing from the clutches of the law. Police sirens wailed in pursuit, drawing closer with each passing moment. Tension hung thick in the air as the pursuit intensified, a high-stakes chase through the relentless downpour.

Suddenly, the world outside became a chaotic symphony of screeching tires and crashing metal. The fleeing vehicle, pursued by flashing police lights, collided with another car in a deafening cacophony of destruction. The impact sent shockwaves through the vehicle, jolting its occupants violently.

In that heart-stopping moment, Alexander instinctively shielded Sophia from the impending collision. His protective embrace encapsulated her, offering a brief sanctuary amidst the chaos. The world outside seemed to twist and shatter as the collision unfolded.

As the smoke of the crash cleared, reality hit Sophia like a freight train. Disoriented, she found herself in a twisted wreck, Alexander still cradling her protectively. Panic surged through her veins like an electric shock. The realization that they were now entwined in the aftermath of a violent crash sank in.

Sophia, her senses gradually returning, noticed that Alexander’s grip around her had not loosened. Panic clawed at her as she realized that his eyes were closed, and a trickle of blood ran down his forehead.

“No, no, no!” Sophia’s voice trembled with unprecedented fear. She gently shook Alexander, desperately trying to rouse him from unconsciousness. ”

Alexander, wake up! Please, wake up!”

The rain outside beat a mournful rhythm on the wreckage, mirroring the turmoil within Sophia’s heart. The flashing lights of police cars added a surreal glow to the shattered scene. With every passing second, Sophia’s panic escalated into sheer terror.

Tears blurred Sophia’s vision as she cradled Alexander’s injured form. The once defiant storm now echoed the turmoil in her soul. She pressed her trembling hands against his cheeks, willing warmth and life back into him.

“I need you, Alexander. Please, don’t leave me,” Sophia pleaded, her voice a desperate plea against the relentless rain.

The distant wail of sirens grew louder, signaling the arrival of emergency responders. Yet, in that harrowing moment, all Sophia could see was the man in her arms, unconscious and vulnerable.

As the paramedics rushed to the scene, Sophia held onto Alexander, praying for a sign of life. The world around them faded into a blur of flashing lights, rain-soaked wreckage, and Sophia’s heart-wrenching sobs.

Sophia couldn’t recall the route to the hospital. The officers attempted to question her, their voices a distant murmur in her ears. However, she remained steadfast in her silence, refusing to engage with anyone until she had assurance about Alexander’s well-being.

The paramedics worked diligently around them, their focus on assessing Alexander’s condition. The ambulance became a sanctuary of sorrow as Sophia clung to Alexander’s hand, tears flowing uncontrollably.

After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 135

#135 “So, You still Care about Him.”

In the emergency room corridor, Sophia sat in an emotional tumult, tears cascading down her cheeks like a waterfall. Her heart echoed with prayers for Alexander’s awakening, the weight of guilt and confusion bearing down on her.

The fluorescent lights overhead flickered in rhythm with the uncertainty that gripped her heart.

“He’s engaged to Megan,” Sophia muttered to herself, her eyes fixed on the ground as she replayed the events in her mind. “Why would he risk everything for me?”

The question echoed in her thoughts, a puzzle with no clear solution. The bond between them was tangled, a web of shared history and unresolved feelings. She couldn’t fathom why Alexander, who had moved on to a new chapter of his life, would willingly step back into this chaos.

“He really kept his promises,” Sophia whispered, a bitter smile playing on her lips as her tears fell. The irony of his unwavering commitment to his promises wasn’t lost on her. It was something she had always admired about him.

“But at what cost?” Sophia pondered, her gaze distant. The weight of his sacrifice weighed heavily on her. She hadn’t asked for his involvement, yet here he was, unconscious in hospital, his life hanging in the balance.

Confusion and gratitude intertwined within her. The gratitude stemmed from the undeniable fact that Alexander had indeed kept his promise to be there when she needed him. However, the confusion lingered an enigma that danced on the edges of her understanding.

“He risked his life for me,” Sophia mused, her voice barely audible. The selflessness of his actions stirred a profound sense of gratitude. Yet, the unanswered question lingered in the air, and Sophia couldn’t shake the turmoil within her.

As she wiped away fresh tears, Sophia silently vowed to unravel the mystery once Alexander woke up. She wanted to talk to him and she decided that she would drop everything from the past and talk to him normally.

Evelyn and Sandro rushed into the hospital, the urgency palpable on their faces. Spotting Sophia in the corridor, Evelyn hurried to embrace her.

“Lord Sophia, you’re safe. Lord, I was so scared,” stammered Evelyn, concern etching her features.

She pulled back and looked up at the shaking Sophia to make sure she was okay, but then she noticed the tears in her best friend’s eyes.

“Where’s Alexander?” Evelyn inquired, her intuition piecing together the reason behind Sophia’s tears.

“In the emergency room. He hasn’t woken up, and…” Sophia’s voice trailed off, her composure shattering as fresh waves of grief overwhelmed her.

Evelyn, with genuine concern etched on her face, wrapped Sophia in a careful embrace. Her arms circled Sophia, mindful of the bruises and scratches that adorned her friend’s body like painful memories etched in flesh.

“I had no idea it was this bad, Sophia,” Evelyn murmured softly, her voice a mixture of worry and compassion.

Sophia, her tears flowing freely, leaned into the comforting embrace. The weight of the recent events pressed heavily on her.

“Thank you for being here,” Sophia whispered, her gratitude sincere.

“It’s going to be okay, honey,” Evelyn whispered her words a comforting balm in the face of the storm that had engulfed their lives.

Sophia, feeling the weight of uncertainty, sank into one of the uncomfortable plastic chairs in the hospital. Her nerves were on edge as she awaited news about Alexander.

Sandro sat beside her, his concern palpable in the quietude of the sterile environment. The air itself seemed heavy with the unspoken fear that lingered between them.

Finally, a nurse approached, her brisk footsteps echoing in the sterile corridor. She glanced at her clipboard, then back at Sophia.

“Are you Mr. Stone’s partner?” the nurse asked, her tone professional yet empathetic.

Sophia hesitated for a moment. “I’m his ex-wife.”

The nurse’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, but she quickly regained her composure. “I see. Well, Mr. Stone is out of immediate danger, but his head injury is quite severe. We’re monitoring him closely, but we can’t predict when he’ll wake up. There’s also a possibility of amnesia.”

Sophia felt a heavy weight settle in her chest. Amnesia? The thought of Alexander not remembering anything sent a pang of sorrow through her. She thanked the nurse, her voice carrying a tremor of emotion.

As the nurse moved away, Sandro cast a curious glance at Sophia. “Ex-wife, huh?”

Sophia nodded, her eyes distant. “Yeah. We were married a long time ago.”

Sandro, always perceptive, observed Sophia’s demeanor. The concern etched on her face was more than just that of a concerned friend. There was a depth of emotion, a connection that went beyond what one might expect from an ex-spouse.

“So, you still care about him,” Sandro stated more than asked, a knowing look in his eyes.

Sophia sighed, her shoulders slumping. “I can’t deny that. Despite everything, he risked his life for me.”

Sandro nodded understandingly. “Well, he’s a lucky man to have someone like you by his side. And who knows, maybe this will be a chance for both of you to clear the air.”

Sophia managed a weak smile, her thoughts still clouded with worry. They lingered in the hospital, awaiting Alexander’s awakening.

After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 136

#136 “Total Chaos.”

Ever since Sophia received the heart- wrenching news of Alexander being in a coma, she had become a constant presence in his hospital room. In the initial days, she bounced between moments of despair and persistent demands to the nurses and doctors, urging them to provide the best possible care.

Eventually, Sophia stopped giving orders and settled into a quiet routine of staying by Alexander’s bedside. Attempts by Evelyn or Sandro to persuade her away were met with temporary compliance, only for her to return after brief respites for showering or eating.

Days melted away as Sophia sat next to his bed, engaged in a one-sided conversation. Whether he could hear her or not was uncertain, but she couldn’t reconcile with the idea that all of this had unfolded because of her.

She shared stories from her childhood and recounted lessons with Maestro Paus. Sophia remembered the promise she made to tell him about her music career the last time they were on his private jet.

Now she was holding his hand and studying his face. Aside from the bruises from the blow, which were already starting to heal, she couldn’t help but admire how handsome he actually was.

He had razor-sharp cheekbones and eyelashes a woman would kill for, and his lips were the definition of perfection. Sophia had never before allowed herself to think about his appearance, but she could not deny that he was the most handsome man she had ever seen.

“You know, I was so angry with you for not coming to me even once when we were married,” Sophia confessed. The words seemed to spill out against her will.

“I was furious, Alexander, and failed to see you for the man you are. Then, in that apartment in London, you showed up, saw me with a gun in my hand, and didn’t doubt for a moment that I was innocent. I figured maybe I could trust you. And when I started to forgive you, you got engaged to Megan, and then I…

Sophia shook her head, attempting to gather her thoughts. A sigh escaped her, and she realized that if she didn’t express herself now, she might never.

“I didn’t even give you a chance to explain. I treated you terribly in my apartment, and then you left and announced your engagement. Now, more than anything, I want you to wake up and tell me your side of the story. And if you still want to, and you haven’t given up on me, I want us to give each other a chance.”

A tear traced its path down her cheek just as the door creaked open. Sophia swiftly wiped her face as a nurse entered.

“Oh, Mrs. Stone, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to interrupt you. I’m just coming to check on his condition,” the nurse announced.

Sophia, refraining from correcting the nurse about her marital status, allowed the woman to attend to her duties. “I’ll let you do your work,” Sophia said, leaving the room.

Deciding to grab a coffee, she walked towards the reception area, where a familiar voice caught her attention.

“Which room is Mr. Alexander Stone in?

Sophia turned and saw Laura, Alexander’s assistant. Following her with a smile, Sophia spoke up.

“I can show you the room,” she said.

As soon as Laura laid eyes on her, her face lit up with recognition.

“Sophia, I’m so glad to see you.”

“Laura, I didn’t expect to see you here, “Sophia said with a smile as they strolled down the corridor.

“Honestly, Sophia, I came to figure out what’s going on with Alexander. Everyone’s bombarding me with questions about his whereabouts, and I can’t spin more lies to save my life. Speculations are running wild in the media, and…”

“Wait, wait, wait. Are you telling me that no one knows where Alexander is? “Sophia interrupted, incredulous, stopping abruptly in the corridor.

“Yeah, he specifically told me to keep his trip to Vegas on the down low. He was worried that if the news got out, it might mess things up for you,” Laura spilled.

“And what’s happening back at the company?” Sophia probed.

“Total chaos. Megan’s losing her mind, and I can’t pull the wool over her eyes anymore. I’m here to find out when Alexander will wake up and how to handle the mess,” Laura confessed.

“Megan doesn’t even know he’s here?” Sophia asked, wide-eyed. “Is that why she’s not at his bedside?”

“Nope, she’s clueless, and I can’t dodge her forever,” Laura nodded. “She’s been barging into his office uninvited, and I kept feeding her lies about him being out somewhere.”

“Why in the world doesn’t Megan know where her future husband is?”

“Alexander specifically asked me to keep it a secret.”

“I get that, but why?” Sophia pressed.

“Sophia, I can’t comment on the decisions my boss gets,” Laura deflected.

Laura started moving forward, but Sophia blocked her path.

“Spill it, Laura. I have a right to know. What’s going on?” Sophia demanded, arms crossed and eyebrows raised.

“I’m just doing my job, Sophia. You can ask him when he wakes up,” Laura suggested.

“So I’m onto something? There’s some secret he’s keeping from me.”

Laura sighed.

“He’s helping out with Megan’s company, not because he’s head over heels for her, but to get inside information to help you take her down.

“What?” Sophia’s voice rose. “Why?”

“Oh, cut it out, Sophia. Don’t act like he’s not crazy about you. He’s been stalling the collaboration for weeks to gather whatever information you need. He’s promised you, and he’s dead set on delivering,” Laura spilled.

“I can’t believe he agreed to this engagement just for…”

“Maybe it’s time you two put the swords down and actually talked like adults,” Laura suggested with sincerity.

Upon learning the truth, Sophia’s world seemed to shift on its axis. The revelation hit her like a tidal wave, leaving her speechless and deeply moved. She felt a torrent of conflicting emotions surging within her- surprise, gratitude, confusion, and a hint of vulnerability.

The hospital corridor became a silent witness to Sophia’s internal turmoil. She had to know more and understand the intricacies of Alexander’s actions. The realization that he had taken significant steps, even pledged to engage with Megan for the sake of aiding Sophia, left her both stunned and touched.

“Laura, I want to see Alexander. Will you excuse me?”

“I’ll talk to the doctors, see you later.”

Sophia did not wait for Laura to finish her sentence and rushed to Alexander’s room.

#137 “I Want Us to Try to be Together.”

Sophia entered Alexander’s room, the sterile scent of the hospital surrounding her as she approached his bedside. The rhythmic beeping of the monitors provided a stark contrast to the emotional turmoil within her.

Sitting down, she found solace in the familiar space beside his hospital bed. In the past few days, it had become a habit for her to say it out loud when something was bothering her. She shared her thoughts with him incessantly.

“You know, you never cease to amaze me,” she murmured. Still shocked by the recent revelation, she buried her face in her hands, attempting to find composure.

Taking a deep breath, she allowed the gravity of the situation to settle. The news that Alexander had only entered into an engagement with Megan for her sake was a revelation that still echoed in her thoughts.

“I hope to continue to do so,” came Alexander’s hoarse voice, unexpectedly breaking the silence.

Sophia jolted in her seat, startled by the sound. His eyes were open, meeting hers with a gaze that spoke volumes.

“You’re awake!” Sophia exclaimed, her eyes welling up with tears, a mixture of relief and overwhelming emotion.

As she examined him, the pale hospital light accentuated the hints of exhaustion on Alexander’s face. The doctors’ warnings about potential signs of anemia lingered in Sophia’s mind.

“Do you know who I am?” Sophia asked, leaning over him with anticipation.

“To my greatest happiness, yes,” he replied, a soft smile playing on his lips.

Sophia’s shoulders relaxed as a sigh escaped her. The weight of uncertainty that had gripped her heart began to lift. Without hesitation, she enveloped him in a heartfelt hug, a culmination of worry, relief, and the unspoken emotions that had filled the hospital room.

Alexander struggled to a sitting position, pulling Sophia closer to him. His fingers ran through her hair, and he breathed in the scent he had grown to love so much.

“You scared me to death, “Sophia whispered into the crook of his neck, refusing to release the embrace.

“I can say the same, Sophia,” he replied with a smile, his heart warmed by the rare closeness they shared.

Alexander didn’t know what to say or do to keep the moment as it was. Her arms wrapped around him and she looked at him so tenderly that he was afraid even a breath would ruin it.

“You have a lot to explain to me,” Sophia stated, pulling back slightly to meet his gaze.

His dark green eyes traced over her face, trying to discern the changes that had occurred in the past few days, prompting Sophia’s newfound willingness to talk.

Alexander found satisfaction in the shift of dynamics. Despite the danger that had lurked in his life, the current moment felt worth it, with Sophia right there in his arms.

“That’s right. Are you ready to listen?”

he inquired.

“Yes,” Sophia replied, a genuine smile gracing her lips.

“Before that, I want to know if you’re injured somewhere,” Alexander asked, scrutinizing Sophia for any signs of harm.

She shook her head, cupping his face in her hands, redirecting his attention.

“I know you’re sick of hearing it, but don’t worry about me. I’m fine. You’re the one who was in a coma for days.”

Alexander felt a mixture of relief and gratitude, overwhelmed by Sophia’s resilience and care.

“Why do you always do so much for me? Why risk your life for me? Why did you get engaged to Megan just to get me the information?” Sophia questioned, her curiosity unyielding.

“I guess I should get a new secretary who can keep a secret,” muttered Alexander.

“Don’t, I’m a lawyer, I know how to pressure people for information,” laughed Sophia. “Ah, now seriously, why did you do that?”

“Sophia, you may not have realized it yet, but you are important to me. I made you a promise, and I intend to keep it because once I didn’t, and I still regret it.”

“What do you mean? Which promise did you not keep?” Sophia asked, a hint of confusion in her expression.

She sat on the side of his bed, giving him the space to unravel the truth.

“To be your husband, Sophia. I failed miserably, and I want to fix that. I want you to be able to count on me. I know you can handle yourself, but that doesn’t mean you have to be alone all the time.” Alexander confessed, laying bare his intentions and regrets.

Sophia couldn’t find the words to express the overwhelming emotions swirling within her. Her throat tightened, rendering her silent as she listened intently to Alexander’s revelations.

“When I came to your apartment, I wanted to talk to you. I needed to know if you had feelings for me. If you did, I would have never accepted Meghan’s marriage proposal. But you made it clear that you didn’t care. That’s why I accepted, because I cared about you, and I wanted you to be able to get revenge on Megan and bring justice,” Alexander explained, his words hanging in the air.

“I wouldn’t be sitting here if I didn’t care, you fool,” Sophia mumbled, her voice barely audible. “Of course, I care.

But when I saw you and Megan the other night, I didn’t want to give you that win. To play with me and her. I pretended that it meant nothing to me, but inside, I was furious with you,” she admitted, her vulnerability laid bare.

Alexander recalled his mother’s words, echoing in his mind that Sophia’s anger was a testament to his importance in her life. A small smile played on his lips of understanding and relief.

“I’m sorry, Sophia. I never meant to…” Alexander began.

“No, I’m sorry. I should have let you talk, but I was so angry and stupid that I pushed you away, despite everything you’ve done and continue to do for me, “Sophia replied, her regret evident in her words.

“What are you telling me, Sophia?” Alexander asked, confusion clouding his features.

“I want us to try to be together,”

Sophia admitted, her voice sincere. “If you still want me. I’ll understand if…”

Before Sophia could finish her sentence, Alexander interrupted her by pulling her into a kiss.

After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 138

#138 “Don’t Do it Anymore, Alexander.”

This kiss wasn’t like their stolen kisses from before; this one was long- awaited, desired, and haunting.

The monitor beeped louder with each beat of Alexander’s racing pulse. Ignoring the cables attached to his body, he urgently tore them away and pulled Sophia onto his lap.

Sophia felt intoxicated by this passionate kiss. His hands were buried in her hair, hers exploring the contours of his strong, muscular body.

In an attempt to deepen the connection, Sophia pushed Alexander onto the bed, unaware of his bruised ribs. A small gasp of pain escaped him.

“Oh, sorry,” Sophia whispered.

“Don’t stop, do it again,” Alexander urged, pulling her in for another kiss. Their lips met again, and Sophia couldn’t suppress a moan, intensifying Alexander’s desire. He nibbled on her lower lip, reclaiming her mouth.

Sophia’s thoughts blurred; her brain turned to jelly. Desire consumed her, and for the first time, she found herself wanting someone so desperately.

The two of them struggled to breathe, completely consumed by their overwhelming need for each other.

The taste of longing lingered on their lips as the intensity of their kiss deepened. The sterile hospital room faded away, and it was just Alexander and Sophia, lost in the heat of the moment.

Sophia, now seated on his lap, reciprocated the passion. Her fingers entwined in Alexander’s hair, pulling him closer. The touch was electric, igniting a fire that had been simmering beneath the surface.

Alexander’s hands slide over Sophia’s body making her moan again. Sophia’s lips slowly started to glide over Alexander’s neck leaving a burning sensation deep inside of him.

However, their stolen passion was abruptly interrupted as the door swung open with a force that startled them both. A group of doctors, wearing expressions of complete shock, entered the room.

Sophia instinctively pulled away from Alexander, their eyes meeting in shared embarrassment and amusement.

“Apparently, you’re not dying, which is good news,” one of the doctors announced, his tone slightly embarrassed. “But the next time you decide to take off the cables for your heart monitor, know that we see it as your heart has stopped. And we are obliged to come and save you.”

Alexander and Sophia exchanged a glance, barely holding back their smiles. Sophia, feeling the weight of the situation, stepped away from Alexander and retreated to the side of the bed, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

“As far as I can see, Mr. Stone, you’re in good condition, and we’ll be able to discharge you today,” the doctor continued, regaining a more professional demeanor.

Relief washed over both Alexander and Sophia. The doctors meticulously examined the indicators and posed routine questions to Alexander. Satisfied with his responses, they declared him in good health and announced their intention to prepare for his discharge.

Alone again, Sophia met Alexander’s expectant gaze. She couldn’t help but smile at his questioning look.

“What?” she asked playfully.

“Were you serious? Do you really want to be together?” Alexander inquired, his eyes filled with hope.

Sophia burst into laughter, a warmth filling her as she wrapped her arms around his neck. The magnetic pull between them was undeniable, and Alexander reciprocated by pulling her closer.

“Yes, whatever comes, I want to face it together. Megan’s anger, another crazy mob that wants to kidnap us, trying to frame us for murder – I want to go through all this crazy stuff with you,” Sophia declared.

Alexander, with a mischievous glint in his eyes, raised an eyebrow. “How about we try something nicer? As much as I like playing the hero…”

Sophia interrupted, her tone serious.” Don’t do it anymore, Alexander.”

“What?” he wondered.

“To pretend to be a hero. I worry about you, and I don’t want to.”

Alexander chuckled and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. “Stop pushing yourself into dangerous situations, my dear Sophia.”

“”They always find me themselves.”

“Then we’ll deal with them together, and we’ll both be heroes, and we’ll both worry about each other. Does that seem fair to you?”

Sophia grinned. “Yes. Oh, and you made so many promises to me, Alexander. If you don’t keep them all- because you’ll be putting your life at risk – I’ll be very angry with you.”

“What promises?” he asked, a furrow forming on his brow.

“You have to buy me candy from the carnival, go out in a t-shirt and jeans, drink beer with me, and let’s not forget a life-saving sandwich.”

Alexander pulled Sophia into another kiss, short but as sweet as honey, causing her to melt in his arms.

“As soon as I promised, we will do it,” he whispered against her lips.

“Let’s get you out of this hospital,” Sophia said, her voice filled with sweetness.

“Come on, I’m starving,” Alexander admitted.

“I know the exact place where we should go,” Sophia replied with a smile and pulled him towards the door.

#139 “All Right Then, Woo Me.”

Sophia and Alexander had traveled in a taxi to Lisa’s restaurant.

“They kidnapped me because I had decided to help them by putting them in touch with a lawyer friend of mine,” Sophia explained during the ride.

Alexander pulled her close, and she wearily rested her head on his shoulder.

“Sandro told me,” Alexander remarked. “And to be honest, I wasn’t at all surprised that you suggested it.”

Sophia smiled sweetly at him.

“I was going to ask you for something when we got there,” Sophia continued.

“Anything,” Alexander replied, kissing her forehead.

“Lisa’s food is great, but this Daniel has ruined her business and driven away most of the customers,” Sophia began. “I’m sure she would have been very happy if you had written something nice about the place on your social media.”

Alexander laughed and nodded.

“You didn’t even have to ask me for that, Sophie,” he told her gently.

The taxi stopped in front of the restaurant, and Sophia was about to pay the driver when Alexander overtook her. She frowned and glanced at him.

“Don’t you dare,” Alexander said as he left a hefty tip for the driver. The two got out of the taxi and headed towards the entrance.

“And what now, Mr. Stone? You’re going to pay for everything?” Sophia raised an eyebrow quizzically.

“Yes, and it is not subject to discussion. Let me be a gentleman,” he replied to her.

“I can pay for myself.”

“I have no doubt, Sophia. You can turn the whole world around on your own, but I wanted to be gentle with you. I wanted to woo you. Let me take care of you, not because you can’t do it alone, but because I wanted to be your peace of mind.”

“Peace of mind,” Sophia repeated thoughtfully. “I liked the way it sounded. All right then, woo me.”

Alexander laughed at her and opened the restaurant door for her to pass in front of him. The moment they stepped inside, Lissa squealed cheerfully and rushed to hug Sophia.

“You were my savior,” Lisa told her. ” Your lawyer says we might win the case.

“I don’t doubt it,” replied Sophia with a smile.

As soon as Lisa let her go and saw that Sophia was not alone, she blushed slightly at the sight of the attractive man with her.

“Sophia, who is your friend?” she asked her.

Sophia thought for a second about how to introduce Alexander, but he interrupted and held out his hand to Lisa.

“I’m Alexander, Sophia’s boyfriend. Nice to meet you, Lisa; I’ve heard great things about your food.”

“Oh, not to brag, but my cooking is the one thing I can’t be modest about,” Lisa laughed. “Please come and feel free to call me whenever you need anything.”

Alexander wrapped his arm around Sophia’s waist and led her to one of the empty tables. He pulled Sophia’s chair and motioned for her to sit down. She rolled her eyes playfully but didn’t object.

As soon as they settled in and ordered food, Sophia smiled at Lisa’s son, who was clearing one of the tables. The boy smiled back at her and nodded in gratitude.

“Who’s that?” Alexander asked, smiling at the boy.

“Jake,” Sophia said. “Lisa’s son. Reminded me a lot of you.”

“Is that so?” Alexander raised an eyebrow.

“Yes, when I spoke to him, his life story reminded me a lot of the problems you had in your youth. You were both fighters.”

Alexander smirked and shook his head.

“So you were thinking about me these days in Vegas after all,” he smirked.

“I tried not to, but you kept sneaking into my mind,” Sophia admitted.

“I intend to continue to do so,” replied Alexander with a charming smile, his eyes reflecting a promise.

At that delightful moment, Lisa skillfully piled their table with the dishes they had ordered. A mouth- watering aroma enveloped the air, tempting their taste buds.

“Wow. This is definitely competition for my life-saver sandwich,” Alexander exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.

“Oh, you cook?” inquired Lisa, intrigued.

“Unfortunately, rarely, but I do enjoy preparing meals for my loved ones,”

Alexander replied a hint of modesty in his smile.

“You should come to the kitchen sometime and make something; I would be thrilled to diversify the menu, “suggested Lisa, her enthusiasm evident.

“A must on my next visit,” Alexander promised.

Sophia beamed with warmth as they engaged in the conversation. She couldn’t help but admire Alexander. Perhaps they still had a journey ahead, but in that moment, everything felt perfect to her.

“Let’s all take a picture together for my social media post; we can’t do it without the chef,” Alexander proposed, pulling out his phone.

The three of them gathered, sharing smiles and laughter as Alexander expertly captured the moment. Lisa thanked them once again and graciously stepped away, leaving the couple to savor their time together.

“This is the tastiest pizza I’ve ever eaten,” admitted Alexander, savoring each bite.

“I told you I know the exact place,” Sophia grinned, her eyes sparkling with playful satisfaction.

“With you, every place is right,” replied Alexander.

Sophia laughed, charmed by his words.

“You are a great flatterer, Alexander, I grant you that.”

“You haven’t seen anything yet.”

“Then I can’t wait for what you have in store for me,” she replied, her eyes filled with anticipation and a touch of mischief.

As Alexander savored the delectable flavors of the pizza, Sophia couldn’t help but admire the way he carried himself. His presencé exuded a quiet confidence, and each subtle movement seemed calculated to captivate.

Sophia took a sip of her wine, her gaze lingering on Alexander’s strong, masculine hands as they expertly maneuvered the fork. The flicker of candlelight danced in his eyes, adding a mysterious glint that drew her in. His laughter, a rich and melodic sound, filled the air, leaving an indelible impression on her senses.

Alexander, pausing mid-bite, met Sophia’s appreciative gaze. A playful smirk played on his lips as he said, ” Enjoying the view, are we?”

Sophia chuckled, a blush gracing her cheeks. “Guilty as charged. You make even pizza-eating look irresistible.”

As they continued their meal, Alexander’s conversation became a seductive dance of words. His voice, a velvety timbre, had a magnetic quality that sent shivers down Sophia’s spine. The tales he shared about his adventures were told with a hint of mischief, and each word seemed to weave a spell around her.

“So, tell me, Sophia,” Alexander leaned in, his eyes gleaming with intrigue, ” what’s the most adventurous thing you want to do?”

Alexander’s gaze held a spark of mischief as he leaned in, his eyes locking onto Sophia’s. “So, tell me, Sophia,” he inquired, “what’s the most adventurous thing you want to do?”

Sophia, sipping her wine, couldn’t help but laugh. “Actually, if I have to be honest, I can’t wait to get home from this ‘vacation,” she confessed. “I think I’ve had a lot of adventures since I’ve been here. And I even long for a quiet evening.”

Alexander’s eyes twinkled with amusement. “Then let’s get on the plane and get out of here,” he suggested, a playful grin on his face.

Sophia smirked, enjoying the banter. ” That sounds great, but not before I’ve said goodbye to Sandro.”

Alexander leaned back, a contemplative look on his face. “Fair enough. We can’t skip the goodbyes.”

After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 140

#140 “You can’t Keep Your Hands off Each Other.”

Alexander and Sophia strolled back to her hotel holding hands, the air buzzed with a newfound connection. Evelyn, already at the front desk sorting out their room, couldn’t contain her excitement upon seeing the couple. Her jubilant reaction was immediate.

“Finally,” she exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air in triumph. “I knew, I just knew.”

Sophia chuckled at her friend’s enthusiasm, and Alexander wrapped an arm around Sophia’s waist, their shared joy evident.

“Look, you can’t keep your hands off each other,” Evelyn teased. “I’m happy for you.”

“Thank you,” Sophia responded, squeezing Evelyn’s hand in a friendly gesture.

“That went much better than I expected,” Alexander sighed dramatically.

“Don’t think I’ve forgiven you for the past, Alexander, but you’re a good man, and I know you’ll be on your best behavior this time,” Evelyn declared, fixing him with a knowing look.

“Of course. I intend to correct all my mistakes,” Alexander responded.

In the midst of this camaraderie, Sandro joined the group, offering his greetings. Tension crackled between him and Alexander. Alexander harbored resentment for the danger Sandro had inadvertently placed Sophia and Evelyn in.

“Girls, I am very sorry to see you go. And I want to sincerely apologize to you for everything that happened,” Sandro began, addressing the elephant in the room.

Alexander gritted his teeth, trying to conceal his true feelings. He reminded himself that Sandro was Sophia’s friend and Kyle’s cousin.

“I decided to investigate the reasons for all this and found out that a member of my company was involved in dealings with the mafia. I assure you that the necessary measures have already been taken, and he will be punished. I’m most sorry that you had to go through this terrible…” Sandro continued, offering an explanation and an apology.

“Sandro, everything is fine. The important thing is that you have found who is to blame and that we are all fine, “Sophia gracefully responded. “Other than that, we had a lot of fun thanks to you.”

Alexander admired Sophia’s magnanimity, squeezing her waist a little tighter. Sandro’s gaze locked with Alexander’s. The two said nothing, but their reluctance to be next to each other was visible for miles.

“Sophia, before you go, I want to talk,” Sandro said. “Alone.”

“Okay,” Sophia agreed, making an attempt to pull away from Alexander, who resisted.

“Alexander,” Sophia grumbled. “I’ll be five steps away from you. Relax.”

Alexander held his gaze on Sophia’s gorgeous eyes, finally letting her go with a sigh.

“I’ll wait for you out front,” he informed her.

As he walked towards the hotel exit, Evelyn exchanged a few parting words with Sandro.

“Thanks for everything, Sandro. See you soon,” Evelyn said with a warm smile.

“Tell Kyle I said hello,” Sandro added, offering a genuine smile.

“Absolutely,” Evelyn replied.

With that, Sandro and Sophia were left alone. Sandro leaned towards Sophia and that caught her attention.

“I wanted to ask you something,” Sandro said.

“Of course. What’s up?” Sophia asked with a smile.

“Are you Christopher Johnson’s granddaughter?”

Sophia’s eyes widened in shock. How did Sandro know about her grandfather? The revelation caught her off guard. With a hesitant nod, she confirmed, “Yes, he was my grandfather. How did you know?”

Sandro chuckled, his expression shrouded in mystery. “I’ve heard the name from my father,” he confessed.” Your grandfather, Christopher, played a significant role in my family’s business operations. He helped both my father and grandfather immensely.”

Sophia’s surprise deepened. Sophia knew that her grandfather was a respectable farmer and nothing more, but the more time passed the more he surprised her. She wondered if she had ever known anything about him.

“Do you know what they did?” Sophia asked hopefully.

“Unfortunately no. I have not inquired as a child, but I have heard his name.” Sandro admitted. “But his wisdom and support left a lasting impression on my family. I wanted to acknowledge that connection.”

As they stood there, the gravity of the revelation sunk in. Sophia mentally set herself the task of investigating more into her grandfather’s life. His connections apparently extended much further than she had imagined.

Sandro’s gaze lingered on Sophia, a mix of admiration and something more profound. “Goodbye, Sophia,” he said, his words carrying a mysterious undertone.

With a parting glance, Sandro added, ” We’ll meet again.”

As Sophia walked away, Sandro couldn’t help but make a mental note. There was something about her – a magnetic allure that intrigued him. He liked her spirit and the resilience she displayed. The fact that she was with Alexander didn’t deter him; if anything, it fueled a determination not to let her slip away easily.

As soon as Sophia stepped outside the hotel, the chilly evening breeze kissed her face, and the sight of Alexander waiting for her leaning against his limousine made her smile. She wondered when she will ever get used to this extravagance. Evelyn, nervously biting her nails in the car, looked visibly relieved at Sophia’s appearance.

“Is everything alright?” Alexander inquired, his concern evident in his eyes.

“Yes, yes, I just can’t wait to go home,” Sophia replied with a warm smile, appreciating Alexander’s thoughtful gesture.

“Let’s take you home,” Alexander said, sealing his words with a tender kiss.

Sophia couldn’t help but marvel at the effect Alexander had on her. In that brief moment, their lips meeting, the world seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them in their own enchanting bubble.

After the kiss, Alexander opened the door for Sophia and sat next to her in the back seats. Seeing how worried Evelyn was, Alexander asked the driver to raise the barrier to give them the privacy they needed. Sophia felt a wave of gratitude toward him.

Sophia turned to Evelyn, gently nudging her hand away from her nervous nail-biting. “What’s troubling you, dear?” Sophia asked, sensing her friend’s unease.

“Do you think that once Sandro is involved with the mob, Kyle will be too? “Evelyn voiced her concerns.

Sophia sighed as she realized how serious her best friend’s concern was.

“Now that I think about it, this might be the reason Kyle doesn’t want to talk to me about his past,” Evelyn admitted.

“I think it’s about time you had this conversation,” Sophia advised, her voice gentle. “Don’t judge him, don’t attack him; just calmly talk to him and find out the truth.”

Evelyn pondered Sophia’s words. “Do you think he’ll tell me the truth?”

“You deserve it, and if he wants to keep you, he’s going to have to trust you,” Sophia affirmed, offering support to her friend.

“You’re right,” Evelyn conceded.

The limousine continued its journey, carrying them toward the airport and, eventually, back home.
