Ch. 671..680
Chapter 671
The moment I called him "Uncle," his face crumpled, and He just lost it-tears streaming down his cheeks as he broke down right in front of me.
"He always said Narelle looked like her aunt. Now I see why you and Narelle resemble each other so much," Mrs. Yule said, stepping out of the kitchen with watery eyes. She came over, gripping my hand like she wasn't planning to let go.
I pulled them both into a hug. From now on, it'd be the three of us.
That was also when I learned their names: Damien and Abby.
I brought them to my parents' gravesite. Someone-probably Matthew or his family-had left a bouquet of fresh flowers there. The irony wasn't lost on me. They were the reason my parents were gone, and now they wanted to play the remorse card with flowers? Like that could erase what they did.
My parents wouldn't forgive them. How could they? They lost everything-their lives, their chance to see me grow up.
Uncle Damien and Aunt Abby stood frozen in front of my mom's picture, crying like they'd been holding it in for years. Aunt Abby especially-she was full-on sobbing, barely keeping it together.
I knew she wasn't just seeing my mom. She was seeing Narelle, too. If I looked like Narelle, then Narelle must've been the spitting image of my mom. Not just in looks but in something deeper-the way they carried themselves. Uncle Damien and Aunt Abby asked me to move in with them. I said no. I got where they were coming from-they wanted to give me a real family, a home. But we'd never lived together before, and let's be real, my life didn't fit with theirs.
I promised to visit, and they didn't push it.
Having family again felt good in a way, but there was this heaviness underneath it all, like a weight pressing on my chest. I couldn't even explain why-it was just there.
That feeling eventually pulled me to Mr. Seth's bar.
I had my own bar now, but I didn't go there. Instead, I ended up here, lingering until closing time.
When Mr. Seth came over, he asked, "Want some company for a drink?"
"Sure," I said, glancing at him. "But seriously, why do you look so skinny? You been dieting or what?"
He smiled faintly. "I've been crazy busy. Out of nowhere, my bar turned into some social media hotspot. It's packed every night, and I'm barely keeping up."
He wasn't kidding. If I weren't a regular, there's no way I'd have gotten a seat tonight.
"You shouldn't let it wreck your health. Hire more help or something," I said, trying not to sound as worried as I felt. He looked rough, like he hadn't slept in days. He nodded, then clinked his glass against mine. "What's eating you? Breakup?"
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Is it that obvious?"
1
"There's no light in your eyes anymore," he said, straight-up, and it hit me harder than I expected.
He was right. When Hayden left, he took that light with him. There was nothing left now.
"He's gone," I muttered, staring into my glass. "Mr. Seth, I miss him so much. What am I supposed to do?"

Chapter 671
That weight on my chest wasn't random-it was Hayden. Missing him so bad it felt like drowning, like I was clutching at air and coming up empty.
Mr. Seth didn't say a word. He just stayed there, quietly drinking with me.
I downed way too much that night. He tried to make me crash at his place, but I refused.
He didn't push it. Instead, he arranged for a car to take me home, and for once, I didn't argue. When the car dropped me off at the alleyway, I had to walk the last stretch.
The quiet was eerie, the kind that makes your thoughts louder. As I walked, I suddenly felt it-someone was behind me.
Assuming it was Mr. Seth, I waved without turning. "Mr. Seth, seriously, you don't need to follow me. I'm good."
No answer.
I stopped and turned around..
No one was there.
Huh?
Didn't he follow me? Then... where were those footsteps coming from?
I shook it off. Maybe it was just in my head.
But as I kept walking, the sound came again.
Footsteps.
Light. Deliberate. Steady...*
Chapter 672
Chapter 672
The silence of the night made the feeling ten times worse.
A cold shiver crawled up my neck, and before I knew it, I was running
I didn't stop until I reached the car waiting at the curb. The driver glanced at me, out of breath and wide-eyed, and chuckled. "You didn't need to run-I'm not in a hurry," Neither was I. I was just scared out of my mind.
I turned back to look at the alley I had just sprinted from. It was empty. Nothing there.
But those footsteps-clear as day-had followed me, Someone had been there.
Now, sitting in the safety of the car, I regretted not turning around earlier, not confronting whatever it was.
The first thing I did was call Lena. After hearing me out, she laughed. "Sounds like you ran into a ghost in the middle of the night."
A ghost? Yeah, right.
I was about to tell her how ridiculous that sounded when she added, "Or maybe it was a perverted ghost."
Okay, fine. Dim alleys and late nights were a setup for creeps, not ghosts. But if it was some stalker, wouldn't they have done more than just follow me?
"Stop overthinking and go to bed. Also, you've been hitting the bottle way too hard. Seriously, Rea, chill with the drinking," Lena sounded like a concerned mom. "Got it," I mumbled, brushing her off.
She wasn't wrong, though. Lately, alcohol was the only thing helping me sleep.
As the driver pulled away, I glanced back one last time-and froze.
A figure stepped out of the alley.
Tall. Upright.
For a split second, it looked exactly like Hayden.
Heat surged through me, adrenaline firing straight to my head. I slapped the back of the driver's seat so hard, he nearly jumped. "Stop the car! Right now!"
The driver slammed on the brakes, and I lunged for the door-only to find it locked.
"Open the door! Now!" I yelled.
The driver unlocked it, and the second I heard the click, I shoved it open and jumped out, not even thinking about my footing.
Bad idea,
My foot twisted, and I went down hard, slamming onto my knees. Pain shot up my legs like a lightning bolt, and for a second, my vision blurred with white-hot stars.
By the time the driver scrambled over to help, the figure I'd seen was gone, Just... gone.

Chapter 672
All that was left was the ache in my scraped knees, the sting spreading sharp and raw, and the overwhelming weight in my chest.
I couldn't hold it in anymore. The tears came fast and ugly, pouring out as I sat there on the ground.
It felt like the pain had finally cracked something open-the strength I'd been clinging to wasn't there anymore.
The driver, visibly shaken, called Mr. Seth, who showed up and insisted I go to the hospital.
Lena was the one who cleaned and dressed the wounds on my knees.
When she heard why I had fallen, she raised an eyebrow. "You really think you saw Hayden? Are you sure it wasn't just the alcohol talking?"
The pain had already sobered me up. I tried to think back to the figure I'd seen. Truthfully? I wasn't sure anymore. Maybe it was the booze messing with me, making me see what I wanted to see. Because how could it really be him? If it was, why didn't he come to me?
But then I remembered the flickering lights at the amusement park. That gut feeling I couldn't shake-that Hayden wasn't gone. That somehow, someway, he was still out there.
"Lena," I murmured, "If he's still alive, why won't he come see me?"
The antiseptic burned as she dabbed it onto my scraped knees, but I didn't flinch. It was nothing compared to the storm raging inside me.
"He probably has his reasons," she said softly, blowing gently to ease the sting of the iodine. "But... if Hayden really is alive and he comes back, would you throw yourself into his arms without hesitation, or..." She let the question hang, unfinished.
But I knew what she meant.
She was asking if I'd forgive him-or if I'd blame him.
Chapter 673
"I don't know," I mumbled, staring at the blank wall. "I miss him so much, but then I remember how he lied to me -let me think he was gone when he wasn't-and all I wanna do is punch him. Maybe kick him too."
Lena gave me a knowing nod. "Totally fair. If he shows up, I'll hold him down so you can get a solid kick in. He deserves it for putting you through all this crap."
Honestly, my busted knee turned out to be a decent excuse to take a breather. The next morning, though? Absolute torture. The pain was so bad I couldn't even crawl out of bed.
Too bad I only had one day to chill. The big light show was the day after tomorrow, and the human light display- my genius last-minute idea-was 100% my problem.
So there I was, limping my way onto the venue. Ron took one look at me and froze. "Whoa. Should I grab you a wheelchair or something? You look like you're dying."
I sighed, rolling up my pant leg to show him the damage. His jaw dropped. "Holy crap, that's bad! I thought it was just a bruise. Did you, like, go to the ER?"
"It's fine. I'm not dying," I said, brushing it off like no big deal.
Before he could go full mom-mode, the room shifted. A group of guys in sleek black suits and matching shirts strode in, stealing all the attention.
Ron blinked, clearly impressed. "Are those the models? Dang, they're like, absurdly hot."
"Obviously. DracoLux never misses," I said as they headed our way.
Just as I was about to figure out who was in charge, a luxury car pulled up like it owned the place. Out stepped Cole, rocking shades and a ridiculously crisp white outfit. "Hey, come check this out," he said, all smug and self-satisfied.
I nodded, giving him credit where it was due. "They look amazing. Seriously, great job."
But of course, Ron wasn't done. He squinted at the group, counting under his breath. "Wait. There's only six. Weren't we supposed to have seven?"
I turned to Cole, who just pointed toward the bathrooms. "One's got a sensitive stomach. He'll be back in time, don't worry. We're still golden."
"Fine. Get them into their outfits and start arranging positions," I said, checking the time. "And tell your guy with the stomach drama to hurry back. I don't need him throwing off the lineup." Cole flashed me an exaggerated OK sign. "Sure thing. Want to come with me to check on everything?"
I nodded and moved forward without thinking-big mistake. The sharp stab in my knee almost dropped me. I -hissed, wobbling like a baby deer.
Cole caught me mid-stumble, his reflexes annoyingly on point. "Whoa there. What's up? Heels too high?"
Heels? Please. More like bad leg.
Ron jumped in, his voice all serious. "I'm getting you a wheelchair."
Cole frowned, glancing between Ron and me and asked, "What's going on? Where are you hurt?"
I shook my head. "It's nothing."
Chapter 673
Ignoring him and the pain, I limped toward the backstage area. Naturally, Cole followed, probably trying to solve this "mystery injury."
"Did you fall? Get into a fight? Someone push you?"
His imagination really was something.
"Relax, Sherlock," I said, sighing. "I tripped... while bowing in prayer."
"I tripped while, uh... while attempting a super graceful victory pose," I said, deadpan.
He gave me a look. "Yeah, sure. If someone's messing with you, just say the word."
"It's fine," I said, brushing him off as we reached the backstage area.
The models were already in their outfits, and the lights dimmed for the big reveal. Suddenly, the suits lit up, glowing with vibrant, shifting patterns that moved as they did-like a living kaleidoscope.
I froze, completely mesmerized. It was stunning, next-level genius. And by some miracle, another unplanned moment had turned into a win.
Since Hayden's passing, my life had been a weird mix of chaos and surprising victories-like the universe was throwing me pity points.
"We're still one short," the lighting tech pointed out. "When's the last guy showing up?"
"Here he comes!" someone called.
The final model stepped onto the stage.
The room stayed dim, the glow of the suits casting just enough light to outline him as he moved into view. It was barely a second, but something about him made my heart lurch.
Chapter 674 Hayden?
It had to be him. That same silhouette I'd seen in the alley that night.
Last time, I blew it-I fell and missed my chance. Not this time. I stepped forward...and forgot about my busted knee. Yep, down I went, crashing straight to the floor.
"Wow, if you wanted me to catch you, you could've just asked," Cole quipped, smirking as he helped me up.
I ignored him, my focus glued to the stage. Without thinking, I yelled, "Turn on the lights!"
The models froze mid-rehearsal, and the backstage area stayed pitch black.
"I said, turn on the lights!" My voice was louder, desperate.
Ron walked in just then, eyebrows raised. "What's happening? Turn on the lights, now!"
His tone worked like magic. The lights flooded on, way too bright, making everyone blink like deer in headlights- including me.
But I didn't care. My gaze darted from face to face until it landed on the one in the center.
Hayden.
The face I'd dreamed of, cried over, whispered "I miss you" to in the dark. Right there, alive. But something was off-his eyes. The way he looked at me, like he didn't even know me. Confused. Uneasy. None of it mattered. Not his weird expression, not my throbbing knee. I limped toward the stage, barely noticing
• Cole trailing behind me.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
Ron's finger shot toward the guy onstage, his voice shaking. "H-Hayden... You-you're alive? But how? You..." He trailed off, too freaked out to get the words out.
I staggered closer to the edge of the stage, eyes locked on him.
It had to be Hayden. I was sure of it-completely, undeniably sure.
"Hayden..." I whispered, my voice catching on the name I'd repeated in my head so many times.
But he didn't even flinch.
Cole, still keeping me steady, let out a low laugh. "That's not Hayden Hart. That's Xander Zane-the headliner." Cole gestured for the guy to step forward, and he obeyed instantly, hopping off the stage. "Mr. Drago," he said, nodding respectfully to Cole. Cole pointed my way. "This is our client, Keira Kay."
The man turned to me, his tone formal and flat. "Ms. Kay, Hello. My name is Xander Zane."
And just like that, the whole fantasy shattered.
That voice-nasally and high-pitched. It was all wrong. Hayden's voice had weight, that low, velvety tone that made you lean in just to hear it better. This guy? Nope. Not even close.
But his face... I couldn't shake it. It was too similar. The sharp angles of his jaw, those deep, intense eyes-it was
Chapter 674
all Hayden. Except for one thing: his skin. Xander's was pale and freakishly perfect, like a wax figure. Hayden's face had texture, rugged and real.
The stage director clapped his hands, breaking the tension. "Are we rehearsing or what? Don't come crying to me if this messes up the show!"
"Keep it rolling," Ron said, pulling me back a step and signaling for the lights to dim again.
The rehearsal picked back up, the lights flowing across the stage like watercolors. I didn't move. I couldn't. My head was spinning too fast to process anything. "That guy really does look like Hayden," Ron said gently, like he was trying to calm me down. "But his vibe, his voice-it's totally off. Probably just a lookalike."
I didn't answer, my gaze sliding to Cole. "He seriously goes by Xander?"
Cole's smirk was all mischief. "Of course. What else would he be called?"
I squinted at him, trying to read his face. But Cole's sly, shadowy demeanor gave away nothing. Unbeatable. Finally, I went for it. "Introduce me to him."
Cole's grin stretched wider. "Sure. Let me tell you, this guy's a total legend. He's our top model-been killing it for two years now. No one can do what he does. Tough client? Messy shoot? He steps in and owns it every time. And, come on, you've seen him. That face, that body? Literal perfection."

Chapter 676
"Rea, what's with the wheelchair?" Jace's voice cut through the chatter.
I turned to see him walking over with Aaron.
Jace rocked a crisp white shirt, while Aaron was in all black Total opposites, but together? They had that annoying "main character energy" that turned heads. "Wow, look at that," Lena muttered. "Everyone decided to show up today."
No kidding. All this fuss over a light show? Wild.
But I knew why Lena was snippy-Aaron. She'd rather choke on her coffee than deal with him, but since he was a client here for the event, we had to play nice. Jace came up fast, his eyes locking on my legs. "Where are you hurt?"
"It's just a scraped knee. Chill, I'm fine," I said, trying to downplay it.
Jace wasn't buying it. "Yeah, sure. Totally fine in a wheelchair?"
Lena jumped in before I could answer. "Oh, that's on your brother. He freaked out, said if she didn't use the chair, he'd carry her instead. So, here we are."
She smirked, totally owning the moment. Jace's face darkened, but Lena? She couldn't care less. She still held a grudge over, well... everything. And she never passed up a chance to twist the knife.
"Actually," she added with a sly smile, "the chair's pretty handy. It's great for her recovery. You know, your brother's way ahead of you in the 'thoughtful and caring' department."
Mic drop.
Jace's jaw clenched, and from the corner of my eye, I caught Aaron smirking like he was enjoying the drama. He stepped forward. "So, where are you ladies off to?"
"To check out some eye candy," Lena shot back, all sass, before wheeling me toward the backstage area.
The light show tonight wasn't just about tech-it had a live segment with male models decked out in glowing body art.
As soon as we rolled in, the models were already lined up. Their matching costumes made them almost blend together, but Lena's eagle eye zeroed in.
"Holy abs. Every one of them is a walking thirst trap," she whispered, practically gawking.
"Maybe focus on their faces instead of their six-packs," I reminded her.
"Yeah, but I can't see them properly from here. Can we get closer?" She craned her neck like a meerkat.
Before we could, a no-nonsense stage manager swooped in. "What are you doing here? Backstage is off-limits. Out!"
"I'm Keira Kay from OceanixCorp," I said, calm but firm. "I'm here to check on the models."
That shut him up fast. Perks of being the one signing the checks.
"They're about to go on, so make it quick," he huffed, stepping aside. Lena took that as the cue to wheel me closer, practically buzzing with excitement. Chapter 675
The male models immediately straightened when they noticed us. 1 scanned the lineup, trying to stay professional, until-
"Hayden?!" Lena blurted when her eyes landed on one of them.
"His name's Xander." My gaze stayed locked on the guy with Hayden's face, my pulse hammering
Lena shook her head. "If that's not Hayden, I've officially seen a ghost. They're identical."
I couldn't disagree. I felt the same way,
"But he says he's not. If you don't believe me, go ask him yourself," I said, hoping Lena might figure out what I couldn't.
Without hesitation, she let go of the wheelchair and stomped right up to Xander. "Hayden, did you really change your name and start a whole new life?"
"Miss, my name is Xander. I don't know this Hayden you're talking about." His tone was smooth, steady.
Lena whipped around, her jaw dropping-totally thrown off by his voice.
It wasn't Hayden's. Not even close.
"Hayden, don't think you can fool me with some fancy voice trick!" Lena shot back, reaching toward his Adam's apple like she was about to test for some kind of hidden tech. Xander dodged her hand effortlessly. "If you've got something to say, just say it. No touching"
Chapter 677
Lena flashed a sly grin. "Wow, so uptight. Won't even let me touch you, huh, handsome?"
Xander didn't miss a beat. "Apologies, miss. We're performers, not escorts. Please behave yourself." His voice was firm but polite.
She raised an eyebrow but knew when to back off. "Alright, Mr. Manners." Still, she wasn't done grilling him. How old are you?"
"Twenty-nine."
Lena nodded, tilting her head as she studied him. "And your height?"
"Six feet and a quarter inch."
She squinted, clearly calculating his proportions. "College?"
"Yes," he said without hesitation. "Wellington Institute of Technology. I majored in Artificial Intelligence."
Lena clicked her tongue, her expression practically screaming what a waste. "Al's a big deal these days," she said, her tone slightly snarky.
"This is just a side job," Xander said smoothly, throwing me for a loop.
Wait, what? He had a solid career and moonlighted as a male model in a nightclub?
Compared to him, I couldn't help but feel a little... inadequate.
"So hardworking," Lena said, her voice softer now, almost impressed.
Xander didn't respond.
I took that as our cue to leave. "Come on, Lena. The show's about to start."
But she wasn't done. Her eyes stayed locked on his face as she threw out one last question. "Did your parents ever lose a child?"
"I'm an only child," Xander answered without a flicker of hesitation.
Lena chuckled. "Well, your parents must have amazing genes."
With that, she spun the wheelchair around and rolled me to a quieter corner. Once we were out of earshot, she finally dropped the act. "So, did what he said match anything you know about Hayden?" I shook my head.
Not even close. Except for that face.
Lena sighed. "He says he's not Hayden. His voice, his background-none of it matched. But... that face. Ugh, I don't even know anymore."
I stayed quiet, my mind racing for a way to figure this out. If he really wasn't Hayden, I couldn't keep holding onto this delusion.
But everything so far pointed to him just being some random guy with Hayden's face.
"You were with Hayden for ages, you must know if he's got like, a scar or mole somewhere. Something only you'd know. Find a reason to check Xander for it, and you'll know for sure," Lena said, ever the practical one.

Chapter 677
The second she said it, the answer hit me. "Hayden has a mole on the back of his neck," I said without hesitation. "Just the neck? What about... other places?" she asked, waggling her brows in that way that screamed trouble." Anything more, uh, private?" I shook my head. "I never noticed."
Cue Lena's dramatic eye roll. "You were with him how long and didn't notice? Were you even paying attention when you guys were, like, rolling around naked?"
Her tone dripped with mockery, but I couldn't help laughing. "Who's out here taking notes in the middle of that? What does that even mean?"
"Oh, so when it was you and Nate, I'm sure you were super observant," I shot back, flipping the teasing right onto her. "Did you notice anything distinctive about his private areas?"
Lena coughed, suddenly looking a little flustered. "Of course I did."
"Really? Spill. What's his 'special feature"?" I pressed, grinning at the rare opportunity to get under her skin.
She smirked but dodged like a pro. "That's classified info. Strictly for me."
Before I could push further, she started wheeling me back toward the venue.
We'd barely rounded the corner when Aaron appeared. His gaze landed on Lena with a sharpness that could cut glass, deep and unreadable.
I felt Lena's hands freeze on the wheelchair. For a moment, she didn't move. Then, she snapped out of it and pushed me forward with sudden, frantic energy.
The wheelchair practically jolted into turbo mode.
Chapter 678
"Why are you so freaked out by your Uncle Aaron? Did you, like, do something sketchy to him or what?" I teased Lena as she slowed the wheelchair down.
She didn't answer. I tilted my head back to look up at her. "Oh my God, you did do something!"
"Can we not talk about this?" Lena muttered, which, let's be real, was as good as a confession.
I tapped her hand on the wheelchair handles. "Wait-lemme guess. You couldn't resist his hotness and crossed some kind of line?"
She smacked me lightly on the head. "Shut up! He's my uncle!"
"Then why do you get all flustered whenever he's around?" I pressed. I mean, Lena wasn't exactly the type to get rattled easily.
"Fine. Once, I accidentally walked in on him showering, okay?"
I froze, then smacked her hand. "No way! Where? How much did you see? Wait-did you see, like, everything?"
"Can we please drop it?" she said, eyes squeezed shut like that'd make me stop.
"What do you think?" I shot back, grinning like a maniac.
Lena let out a dramatic sigh, clearly giving up. "It was at his bathroom. And... yeah, I saw everything."
My jaw hit the floor. "No way! That's next-level awkward. Don't tell me you were drunk and wandered in?"
"No," she snapped, shaking her head. "I was visiting my grandma's house. Nobody else was home, and I was all
• sweaty, so I went upstairs to use the guest room. I opened the bathroom door, and... yeah."
She trailed off, clearly hoping that'd be the end of it. But nope, not on my watch.
"Wait a sec," I said, squinting. "Didn't you hear, like, the water running or something?"
Lena let out another long sigh, like just thinking about it was draining. "I had my headphones on, okay? I didn't hear anything. I took my clothes off, opened the door, and just walked right in..." "Wait, wait," I cut her off. "Are you saying you walked in naked? So not only did you see all of him, but he saw all of you too?"
Her face went bright red, and the tiny nod she gave was all the confirmation I needed.
I lost it. Like, full-on laughter.
"Ugh, stop laughing!" Lena smacked me on the head.
When I finally caught my breath, I said, "Look, this is basically a tie. You both saw each other naked, so it cancels out. No need to be embarrassed." "Embarrassed? I lost on both ends!" Lena huffed.
I grinned. "I don't know... You got the full VIP view of your ridiculously hot uncle. Sounds like a win to me."
Lena didn't respond, but I couldn't resist pushing further. "You know, I always thought Nate was your first. Turns out Uncle Aaron beat him to it." "Will you stop?" Lena smacked me again.

Chapter 678
"Fine, fine," I said. "But seriously, what happened next? Like, after the big... reveal, how did you even react?"
Tknew I was being awful, but I couldn't help myself.
"Nope. Not going there. End of story," Lena said firmly
"Aw, c'mon," I teased. "Don't tell me Aaron tackled you right then and there."
"He did NOT!" Lena snapped.
"I don't believe you. There's more to this, isn't there? Either he tackled you, or you tackled him..." My thoughts ventured into smutty fiction territory. Lena swatted at me again.
We kept bickering the entire way back to the viewing area, giggling like idiots.
When we finally arrived, most of the audience had already settled into their seats. My assigned spot? Smack-dab in the front row, sandwiched between Wayne and Cole on one side, and Jace and Ron on the other, Absolutely not. No way.
Without hesitation, I veered to the back and plopped down next to Lena instead.
"I swear, ever since you broke up with Jace, you've been collecting admirers like Pokémon cards," Lena said, grinning.
She wasn't exactly loud, but apparently loud enough for Jace-sitting just ahead of us-to hear. His jaw tightened like he was grinding his teeth into dust.
⚫ I nudged her, whispering, "Can you not? I've put Jace behind me, remember?"

"Alright, alright, I'll behave," Lena said, but the sly look in her eye? Total liar.

"He's not over it yet, even if you are," Lena said. "Right now, his head's probably a total mess."
Lena always had a knack for cutting to the truth.
Aaron finally took his seat just as the light show started, and wow-it was next-level. Fifty minutes of stunning effects, each one unique.
The finale? That was pure magic. The human light performance had the whole crowd hooked, showcasing just how cutting-edge OceanixCorp's work really was. When the models ended by forming our company logo, the applause was deafening.
"Such a creative and refreshing display," Aaron said, the perfect polished client. "The human light show was a standout."
"That was all Ms. Kay from marketing," Ron said, giving credit where it was due.
Every eye turned to me as the clapping grew even louder. I nodded, keeping it cool.
And then Cole-because of course, Cole-jumped in with a smirk: "Brilliant concept, no doubt, but let's not forget the real stars here-our male models."
"Absolutely," I replied smoothly. "Thanks for your support."
Cole's grin only widened. "My honor to serve you," he said, before throwing a glance at Wayne and Jace. "Right, guys?"
His tone was pure mischief, and yeah, he knew exactly what he was doing-stirring the pot like it was his personal hobby.
I couldn't help but wonder if Wayne regretted ever teaming up with someone like Cole. Loyalty clearly wasn't Cole's thing, and trouble? He lived for it, no matter who got burned.
But I wasn't interested in their drama right now. My head was spinning with one question: Was Xander really Hayden?
The problem? Xander was tied to Cole, and there was no getting around that guy.
"Mr. Drago, can I keep Xander?" I asked, going straight for it.
Cole raised a brow, clearly amused. "Oh? You've got your eye on him?"
"Yes," I answered without hesitation.
That single word was enough to turn Jace and Wayne's expressions sour.
Cole, of course, caught it instantly, and you could tell he was 4oving every second of their discomfort.
Still, he shook his head. "Sorry, no can do. Our club's male models are upright professionals. They provide top-tier service, but let me be clear-only within the boundaries of their jobs. Anything extra is not on the menu." Excuse me, what? Did I say I wanted that kind of service?
This guy. Twisting my words on purpose just to get under Jace and Wayne's skin.
I didn't even bother defending myself. Let them think what they wanted. "I want Xander," I repeated coolly." Name your price."

Cole burst out laughing. "Wow, look at you, going all big spender on me. But do I look like someone desperate for cash? And besides," he added, throwing me a playful wink, "you think I'd sell out my principles just like that?" I didn't flinch. Just stared him down.
Finally, he relented. "Fine, fine. I'll talk to Xander. If he's cool with it, I won't stop him. Happy now?"
Sure, he sounded cooperative, but he was still dragging this out for his own amusement.
"Wait here. I'll go ask him," Cole said, turning to leave. But before he could take a single step, Jace and Wayne both moved, blocking his path.
"Who's Xander?" they demanded in unison.
Cole's grin stretched even wider. "Oh, now you're curious? Why don't you both come along and find out?"
He glanced back at me. "Perfect timing. With both of them here as witnesses, you can't say I meddled if Xander turns you down."
And with that, he headed toward Xander, Wayne and Jace trailing close behind.
Xander wasn't far-just a few steps away and fully visible from where I sat.
"If you're just gonna rely on secondhand stories, why not hear it for yourself?" Lena said, pushing my wheelchair along behind the group.
Cole got to Xander first, calling his name. Like always, Xander came over immediately, calm and collected. But the second Wayne and Jace got a clear look at his face, they froze.
"Xander," Cole said with a flourish. "Meet Jace Johnston, CEO of RiverwaveCorp, and his brother, Wayne Johnston, Executive Director. Fun fact-they're brothers."
Xander nodded, polite as ever. "Nice to meet you."
Jace's eyes narrowed, his voice sharp. "Say that again. What's your name?"
""Xander Zane."
Cole's smirk deepened. "Don't you think he looks... familiar?" His voice was thick with mockery.
"Does he?" Wayne shot back.

Cole chuckled, waving Xander forward. "You tell me. Or do you need to look closer to figure it out?"
Xander stepped closer, stopping just shy of Jace and Wayne. At this distance, they could see everything-every line, every feature, every little detail.
And so could I. My breath hitched, and that voice deep in my chest screamed louder than ever: He was Hayden.
"You've really gone all out for this. Where'd you dig up someone like him?" Jace sneered.
Cole's smile didn't waver. "Fate," he said casually, then turned to me. "Wouldn't you agree?"
I didn't bite. My eyes stayed on Xander, searching, digging past the surface, desperate for even the faintest sign that he was Hayden.
"Xander," Cole said, finally cutting to the chase, "Ms. Kay has taken quite the liking to you. She wants to keep you. What do you say?"
Xander's answer was sharp and direct. "Mr. Drago, you know my rules. I don't provide those kinds of service." The implication landed hard. Wayne and Jace's faces darkened immediately, their faces darkened instantly. Cole turned back to me with an exaggerated shrug. "See? Told you. He's not going for it."
Xander gave a polite nod. "If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave." He turned, ready to walk away.
Lena gave me a firm squeeze that silently said: Don't give up.
"Wait," I called out, rising from my wheelchair without hesitation.
Before anyone could stop me, I closed the gap between us in two quick steps, reached out, and hooked my arm around Xander's neck. Standing on my tiptoes, I leaned in, my lips close to his ear.
"Rea, what the hell are you doing?" Jace's angry voice cut through the room.
"She's flirting," Lena quipped.
While their voices clashed in the background, my hand drifted to Xander's neck, fingers brushing the back of it, searching. My heart pounded, but all I felt was smooth, unbroken skin. Nothing.
I ignored his subtle attempts to pull away and kept going, my fingers tracing further up, even brushing the back of his head. Still, nothing. I leaned closer, desperate to see what my fingers couldn't find-the mole that had always been there. But it wasn't. No mark. No mole. No trace of him.
Hayden's mole had always been there-small, distinct, impossible to miss. But the guy standing in front of me? Nothing.
My hand dropped, the realization hitting hard. That hope keeping me afloat shattered, leaving a hollow ache in its place. He wasn't Hayden.
Lena slipped next to me, her hand curled around my arm. Her eyes met mine, quietly telling me she got it.
"Mr. Drago," Xander said suddenly, "I'd like to report a harassment. This lady just laid hands on me without my
consent."

My chest tightened. If he were Hayden, there's no way he'd pull this stunt-not when it could blow his cover. He said it without a second's hesitation. That sealed it. He wasn't him.
The last flicker of hope burned out, leaving this awful weight of disappointment.
I'd convinced myself I'd found Hayden, built up this delusional fantasy, only to crash back down. Foolish. Like a clown chasing a ghost.
And the look in Xander's eyes-cold, distant, maybe even disgusted? Yeah, that drove it home. He wasn't Hayden.
I'd been stupid to think he was, just because they shared a face.
"What are you calling the cops for?" Cole cut in. "Do you even know who Ms. Kay is? Having her hug you is a blessing you won't get again in three lifetimes. See these two important figures?" He gestured at Jace and Wayne. "They'd kill for a hug from her, and even they don't have the privilege."
Chaos was Cole's playground.
"Shut your mouth!" Jace snapped.
"Am I wrong, though?" Cole teased as he poked the bear harder.
