Ch. 11..20
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 11-Alyssa, meanwhile, was singing a heart–rending aria to Jonah dressed in a sky– blue dress, her voice resounding in the wind. Her hair was pulled up into a casual bun and secured by a jeweled pin. She was the very image of an alluring beauty.
Jonah broke into applause once the song was over, his eyes brimming with indulgence. “Not bad. You were taught well. You would’ve been someone’s duchess or something back in the day.” “Do I look like I want to be someone’s duchess? I want to be a queen who shines with confidence. Men aren’t loyal anyway.” She shattered the illusion of being a perfect lady in a split second as she cracked her knuckles.
“So what? We wouldn’t have ourselves three stepmothers otherwise.” Jonah smiled bitterly.
Alyssa adjusted her skirts and sat beside him. The mere mention of her father’s three other wives brought a complicated expression to her face.
“Lyse, it’s been three years. They miss you. They care about you enough to ask me about you in private.” “What are you trying to say, Jonah?” “I know you left home to go abroad to work with Doctors Without Borders because you were angry with Dad, Lyse.” Jonah gently wrapped an arm around her shoulder as his brows furrowed in melancholy. “That’s just the kind of man our father is. We don’t get to choose. No one is without their flaws. You loved Jasper Beckett for years. Haven’t you also come to notice his flaws after being married for three years?” Alyssa blinked as she gripped the bracelet around her thin wrist.
“The difference here is that you can choose to leave Jasper, but the kinship with our father can never be severed. Try to accept him as he is. He loves you. His other wives are also kind people who have kept our home in order all these years. None of them harbor any untoward desires. I can personally vouch for them.” What Jonah didn’t know was that she had already accepted them as early as two years ago because of a certain event.
Xavier dressed Jasper’s wound and left the room.
Jasper felt a headache coming on at the thought of Liana’s tantrum. He remembered her being a gentle and kind soul–an angel in human form. She never seemed like someone who would lose all sense of propriety. “People change, I guess,” he thought with a sigh. Liana was still his childhood sweetheart no matter what. It was she who accompanied him through his darkest moments. She was his anchor, and he was going to marry her.
He went through some documents while still enduring the pain when his gaze fell on the suit placed on the couch. Curious, he went to pick it up and take a closer look.
Jasper was roughly the same height as Jonah, but he had much broader shoulders and a thicker frame compared to the latter. It was clearly sized to fit him. “Hideous.” He sneered. It didn’t stop him from putting it on a few minutes later, though.
He stood in front of a full–length mirror to take assess the fit. One lift of his arm and it was clear that it fit him like a glove. The workmanship was on par with suits from high–end fashion brands! “A bumpkin like her has quite the taste,” he thought.
A knock interrupted him. It was Mrs. Rosie with a cup of warm milk for him. “Oh?
You’re wearing the clothes Madam Alice prepared for you. She’ll be so happy to know this!” Her joy was on full display. No one in the Beckett family took Alice seriously save for Mrs. Rosie, who had raised Jasper.
“What did you say?” Jasper was taken aback.
“The suit you’re wearing. Isn’t that a gift from the madam? That should be it… She asked me to pick it up from the atelier a month ago and got me to keep it a secret from you. She said it was a birthday present for you.” It was a birthday present? He stood frozen in place. His birthday was still months away!
“I know you get along well with Alice, Mrs. Rosie, but she’s not here anymore.
You don’t have to keep flattering her.” His gaze turned cold.
“I was the one who watched you grow up to be the man you are today, Mr.
Beckett. You won’t find anyone in this estate who’s more honest with you than me.” She approached and watched the handsome man in the mirror. “Madam Alice mentioned how the process of making clothing is a long one. Every thread and stitch is her handiwork. The fabric was custom–made too. Even the buttons were from an original mold. She was usually busy with chores and spent what little spare time she had every day at the atelier. That’s why when it was completed a month ago, she kept it hidden in the closet. She didn’t want you to find out.” Jasper’s eyes widened in disbelief as his heart began to pound in his chest.
“If you don’t believe me, you can check the label. Your name is embroidered on it.” He scrambled to take off the suit and toss it onto the couch as though it were on fire. “We’re not married anymore. I’m not interested in knowing what she’s done for me. You should leave.” “Why did you and Madam Alice get a divorce, Mr. Jasper? She’s a wonderful woman who loves you.
dearly…” “Loves me dearly?” He scoffed. “If that were the case, would she have thrown herself into another man’s arms the moment she left my side?” “Madam Alice wouldn’t…” Mrs. Rosie was stunned, “It’s true what they say. You never truly know someone.” There was no hesitation as he ruthlessly chewed Alice out for her vices. It was clear he had blown his top. “Why pretend I’m all she needs when she feels nothing for me at all? Did she think she and I would eventually fall in love? Did she take me for a fool she could deceive?” “I’m sure there’s been a misunderstanding, Mr. Jasper. I can see just how much she loves you.” Mrs. Rosie shook her head in regret as she went to carefully put away the suit.
“Enough, Mrs. Rosie.” “You’ll regret letting Madam Alice go one day.” Alyssa had wanted to sleep in, but her biological clock woke her up at five on the dot. This was usually when she prepared breakfast for the Beckett family.
Now, she no longer had to put herself in the line of fire by cooking for the family.
There was no need for her to endure the family’s dirty looks thrown her way. The life of a divorced woman was amazing!
She got into form–fitting sportswear after washing up and went canoeing at the lake behind the estate. It was a beautiful morning, with birds singing and flowers in full bloom by the shore. Her graceful and powerful figure swept across the lake, leaving behind ripples on the surface of the water.
After exercising, she had breakfast and showered before coming down the stairs in high spirits.
Sean straightened up when he noticed Alyssa. She had put her hair up and done her makeup in a delicate way that emphasized her porcelain features and captivating eyes. A long, black shawl sat on her shoulders, matching the red lace dress she wore that hugged her curves and showed off her legs.
“Hey, you’re drooling.” Alyssa snapped her fingers in his face.
“Shit!” He blushed in embarrassment. “Y–You’re beautiful, Ms. Alyssa.” “You’re my brother’s chief secretary, you know. Can you not act like an idiot when you see a beautiful woman?” She shook her head in amusement.
Later, a Rolls–Royce rolled up to KS World Hotel.
Though she was gorgeous, having their boss show up at the restaurant without being noticed terrified the staff. Not a single soul dared to laze around after yesterday’s lesson. The hotel’s marble floors had been polished so well that they shone like mirrors.
Alyssa went on her rounds before returning to her office after giving a few pointers.
“I don’t need you anymore here. You should go to Jonah, Sean.” “I don’t have to go to his side anymore,” Sean said with a smile. “Mr. Jonah wants me to work for you. I’m your secretary now.” “What?” She stared at him in disbelief. “Jonah mentioned wanting to give me a present today. Are you… the present?” Sean nodded eagerly.
“What the hell? What kind of present is this? Why did he give me a living, breathing person?” she thought.
Sean began to panic when Alyssa said nothing. “You aren’t going to throw me out just because I used to be Mr. Jonah’s secretary, are you?” She smiled. “Nonsense! That’s called work experience!” “Haha! I’ll do my best! I don’t ask for much. Maybe just a small increment to my annual salary?” he joked.
“Money? Do a good job and I’ll see to it that you swim in riches. Do a bad job and I’ll pass you off to someone else like my brother did.” She smiled as she rested her head in her hands.
He gasped before quickly reporting on the current work progress.
“As per your arrangements yesterday, all the Elysian Home beddings have been replaced. All KS Hotels across the country have been notified that the Elysian Home beddings must be replaced within a week.” As he spoke, he was interrupted by an urgent knocking on the door.
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 12-Alyssa shot Sean a look, and the latter responded by opening the door.
“Ms. Alyssa! Ms. Alyssa!” Michael Grant, who had gotten into trouble yesterday, barged in through the door so quickly that Sean failed to hold him back.
Alyssa frowned at the man who threw himself at her desk. “What are you doing here, Mr. Grant? I’ve approved your resignation. You’re free to seek employment elsewhere.” “This isn’t fair, Ms. Alyssa! I’ve been working at this hotel for nearly two decades! I’ve given my all to this job and even gotten sick from it. Not even Mr.
Taylor would do this to me. How could you fire me just like that?” Michael was sweating buckets as he yelled at her, red–faced.
“I’ve read through the particulars of every hotel executive. You’re indeed ill with fatty liver and gallbladder polyps. Looks to me like the hotel is really profitable.” Her smile was cold.
Michael trembled when he picked up on the sarcasm in her words. “I had no idea that … that Elysian sold our hotel low–quality bedding! We partnered with them for three years, and the price was decent. They’re also an established name in Solana City, so that’s why I …” Alyssa tossed a document at his feet with a flick of her wrist before he could finish. “This is à breakdown of every transaction the hotel had with Elysian in the past three years. Are you blind to be so ignorant of this flawed financial report from the finance department that you supervise?” Michael picked the document off the floor with great trepidation and went through everything in it. The few pages in his hands felt as though they were burning coals!
“I also received an anonymous tip.” Alyssa took a leisurely sip of coffee as her alluring eyes glinted like cold steel. “A little bird told me that you and Elysian share a close relationship. That’s how you got all these massive rebates and why you bought their shoddy beddings in bulk.” His teeth were chattering as he grew unstable on his feet.
“Of course, I wouldn’t fire anyone without evidence. But I’m not about to show mercy when I do. have the evidence on hand. If you still have any objections, Mr. Grant, we can get this resolved through legal channels.” “I’m sorry, Ms. Alyssa! I had a lapse in judgment! Please… Please give me a chance! If word of this gets out, I won’t be able to make a living in Solana City!” Michael was scared out of his wits and got on his knees. “It was Elysian who approached me and told me of a way to get rich. This was Mr. Gardner’s idea! I thought the beddings were similar enough. I wasn’t thinking straight and fell into his trap!” “What a joke,” Alyssa thought. He was a vice president who had been part of the hotel industry for two decades, yet he was playing dumb just to protect himself.
“That’s enough, Mr. Grant. I’m sure you know best what happened. If you have all this time to come here with your nonsense, you’d be wise to leave and think about submitting your resume elsewhere. Please see our guest out, Mr. Lynch.” Michael was ushered out, defeated. But that quickly changed the moment he was out of her office. “F***ing bitch! Just wait. I’m not going to let this fly!” he spat out.
Although Alyssa was a generous person, she was enraged that someone was lining their pockets with the hotel’s money. It made her blood boil with indignation.
“Michael seems to have quite the reputation here at the hotel. To think there would be whistleblowers the moment you turned your sights on him.” Sean was excited.
“No one sold him out.” “Huh? Does that mean… you tricked him?” “I did,” Alyssa responded gently and booted up a game to vent her anger. “There would’ve been nothing to fear if he hadn’t done anything wrong. It was unfortunate for him that I showed up.‘ Sean couldn’t help applauding the woman. “Michael and Elysian have been cooperating for three years, and the corruption ran deep. We should bring him to court and make him regurgitate everything he took!” “We still need to maintain a cordial relationship. It’s in our best interest not to burn bridges. The higher–ups at the hotel won’t be happy if I go too far. It won’t be surprising if someone tries to backstab me. My father was the one who promoted Michael as well. I can’t embarrass him too much,” she said nonchalantly while chasing after her prey in–game with a massive ax. “Have someone keep an eye on Michael for now. Report to me immediately if he contacts Liana Gardner’s brother again.” “Yes, Ms. Alyssa!” That was when Alyssa’s phone began to ring continuously. A mountain of messages was blowing up a certain group chat.
“I don’t have time for this right now. Sean, check who it is.” She was fully concentrating on the game.
Sean pulled up the messages on her phone. “Oh, you have messages from a group chat named ‘ Taylor Family’s Secret Society.‘ It’s your brothers, Ms.
Alyssa.” The group chat was created by Silas, her second brother. She, along with her four brothers, was part of it. The reason it was dubbed a “secret society” was because the matter of her marriage to Jasper must not get out.
Silas texted, “I can’t fucking stand this anymore! Is Jasper trying to add salt to the wound? He’s going way too far!” Her third brother, Liam, chimed in, “I’ve been trying to find dirt on Beckett Group.
I’ll see to their bankruptcy within a month.” Her fourth brother, Axel, cut in, “I’ll have Jasper crippled within the week.” Jonah sent, “Amen.
Alyssa finally made her presence known. “Stop! What are you all trying to do?” Silas sent her a Twitter link and said, “They’ve announced their marriage. A high–profile online personality is claiming you to be a mistress who took what wasn’t yours. They’re saying you forced Jasper to marry you and caused a rift in an already existing relationship!” Axel piped up, “Hah. What rift? Why don’t I show them what that’s really like?” Jonah replied, “Don’t upset yourself just because of this lowly evil, Axel. Don’t give them your time of day. Their retribution is coming. Cease your anger and renounce your rage. Don’t stoop to wickedness.” Silas said, “Stop talking, Jonah. I’m seeing stars just reading that.” Axel texted, “I’ll make sure it all gets taken down within half an hour, Lyse. I’ll also have the trending topic of Jasper’s remarriage wiped.” Alyssa replied, “It’s fine, Axel. Let them be.” Silas expressed his confusion.
Alyssa explained, “It has nothing to do with me. Jasper’s ex–wife is Alice White, while I’m the eldest daughter of the Taylor family, Alyssa.” Silas chimed in, “You’re right! You’ve never made any public appearances with Jasper. Outsiders have never seen you before. It’s unlikely that anyone would come looking for you None of this would affect you at all!” Alyssa sent another string of words, “Unfortunately for a certain woman, she’s going to have a hard time.” She smiled in cold arrogance.
“you want to be with her so badly, Jasper Beckett? I’m happy to support the two of you in achieving your happily ever after. But since she’s so eager to test me, you can’t blame me for returning the favor,” she thought.
Beckett Group was caught off guard by the news. The Public Relations Department’s and Jasper’s phones were blowing up with calls from the media.
The news was being sensationalized throughout the country. First of all, Jasper Beckett was getting married, and this was going to be his second marriage! It was over before reporters could even ask how it started. What kind of marriage was that?
“Solana Daily was the first to publish news on the marriage. Rumors have it that it was Ms. Gardner who approached their editor in person before the news broke.” Xavier stared unblinking at his phone. “The post has been retweeted over a million times. The current trending search is # WhoIsJasperBeckettsWife.
Madam Alice is being bad–mouthed online…” “Fire them!” Jasper’s expression turned cold.
Beckett Group had power over Solana News. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that they were. the Beckett family’s mouthpiece.
“Who are we firing?” “Everyone who was involved in this!” “Yes, sir! But what should we do about the online discussion? We can’t rein that in anymore Xavier couldn’t help but worry. “I can’t imagine how Madam Alice would feel about this. She must be upset…” Jasper’s gaze suddenly darkened, and he immediately dialed Jonah’s number. It had become a norm for him to call the other man up. Anyone not in the know would’ve assumed Jasper had a crush on Jonah!
Coincidentally, he received a call from Liana right then. The sight of her name flashing on the screen made him frown
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 13-“Lia?” Jasper said, calming himself down.
“Help me, Jasper!” Liana pleaded for help through her sobs. “I’m being surrounded by reporters at Beckett Group … I’m scared!” “I’m coming downstairs!” Jasper grabbed his coat and left without a second thought.
“No, Mr. Jasper!” Xavier stopped him in his tracks. “You should have security head downstairs to escort her instead. You’ll be mobbed by the reporters if you go!” Jasper’s expression turned somber, and there was not a lick of hesitation as he rushed out the door.
1 “When will the wedding between you and Mr. Beckett be scheduled, Ms.
Gardner?” “The exposé claims that you and Mr. Beckett are childhood sweethearts. Did you two meet many years ago?” “What are your opinions on Mr. Beckett’s ex–wife? Is it true that his ex–wife interfered in your relationship?” The reporters were shoving their cameras into Liana’s face. Despite there being bodyguards on- site, the situation was still chaotic. The woman played up her meek and weak facade despite being secretly thrilled. She was the one who broke the news of the wedding to the media. The rumor claiming Alice to be a mistress was also her doing. “How dare that bitch humiliate me and claim my bracelet for herself?” she thought. Liana wanted Alice branded as a mistress and paraded as a social pariah!
“Thank you, everyone, for your concern. Mr. Beckett and I will be sure to notify everyone once we have news to share.” She gave the cameras a comely smile.
“As for Mr. Beckett’s ex–wife … I know very little about Ms. White. Please don’t attack her. She and Mr. Beckett are no longer together. Let her live in peace.” The situation was still fairly under control until she spoke up. The reporters were now buzzing with excitement, leading to more chaos. Just as Liana was backing up like a terrified bird, she was suddenly surrounded by a solid embrace. An arm wrapped itself around her shoulder while ushering her to the door. “You’re finally here, Jasper.” Liana looked close to tears, but the man kept his silence.
He suddenly stopped in his tracks to look around. He couldn’t help but feel like Alice was right there, watching the scene play out. But how was that possible?
A surveillance camera by Beckett Group’s entrance shifted slightly. Alyssa was watching it all go down in the comforts of her office, observing as the pair left. It would be a lie to say she wasn’t affected by the sight of Jasper protecting Liana and holding her in his arms as if she were a fragile doll.
“So, you’re protecting her. Have you ever protected me?” Alyssa’s eyes stung with unshed tears. “I was dying of pain when I called you that stormy night two years ago. I knew you wouldn’t come for me, and all I was hoping for was for you to answer my call. But what did I get? A phone that was switched off. To think I loved a man like you so dearly for three years. In the end, I was just a tool to appease your grandfather and stall for time. None of my efforts were worth it. Jasper Beckett, you’re the biggest regret of my life.” The Secret Society chat group was suddenly active again.
Jonah texted, “Hey, Lyse. The editor–in–chief of Solana Daily, the news agency that was the first to publicize the news about the wedding, has been replaced. It was your ex–husband’s doing. It seems his girlfriend’s snitching had nothing to do with him.” Alyssa blinked and typed, “They’re the same.” Silas replied, “That’s true! Birds of a feather! Also, I have big news I need to tell you in private, Lyse.
Axel sent, “Just say it here.” Silas answered, “Nope! These are the fruits of my investigation. Don’t go trying to steal my thunder Go conduct your own investigation!” He then sent her a voice recording. “I found some interesting tidbits about Liana Gardner,” he said.
Silas seemed like an incomprehensible prosecutor at first glance, but the Taylor siblings knew of his hacking skills. He wasn’t as skilled as Axel, but his skills worked well enough. They aided in many of his investigations, and no criminal could escape his grasp. Liana Gardner was no different. Photos of a scantily clad Liana kissing a biracial man were forwarded to Alyssa’s WhatsApp.
“Not bad, Silas. This is interesting.” Alyssa whistled as she went through the photos in contentment. “Where did they come from?” “Liana follows a few hundred accounts on her Instagram. I spent the last few days going through every single one. This man rang some alarm bells, so I hacked into his account and gained access to his photo library on his phone.
That’s where I found these babies. This man is a fitness instructor who has many fans.” “Thank you, Silas. Let me take you to dinner tonight!” “Just dinner? You’re not even treating me to a drink? What’s the point?” “Okay! You can drink all you want!” “Don’t get yourself too excited yet. I still have more. This one caught me off– guard.” Silas then sent her a health diagnosis from a medical institution alongside several photos of a woman’s abdomen.
“What is…” The sight shocked Alyssa.
“Would you believe me if I told you Liana had given birth in Mosgravia? These are photos of her stretch marks after her pregnancy.” Alyssa zoomed in on the photos to carefully peruse them.
“That woman wasn’t ill at all. It was an excuse for her to make her visits to the plastic surgery department to get rid of the stretch marks on her belly. Hah. The rapid development of technology makes things very convenient for those with ulterior motives. I’ve heard of people swapping the results of paternity tests, but plastic surgery for stretch marks is a first! This means Liana and Jasper have yet to sleep together. Her secret would’ve gotten out otherwise.” Alyssa felt inexplicably relieved to hear the news. “Good,” she said with mixed emotions.
“What the hell? Good? Cheating is still cheating. You have a problem, Lyse. Are you trying to settle for less than what you deserve?” Silas didn’t want his sister to continue being soft–hearted toward Jasper and wanted nothing more than to snap her back to reality.
She gave him a wry laugh. “You got it all wrong. I don’t love Jasper anymore. I just feel a lot less disgusted because he didn’t touch Liana while we were still married.” “Hah, it’ll be his turn now to feel what it’s like to be cheated on!” Silas spat out.
“That idiot deserves it. He passed you up, my sister, the richest girl in Belbanks with both beauty and brains, for a cheap bitch!” “This is Jasper we’re talking about. Not even riches can win him over.” Alyssa smiled coldly as bitterness washed over her. She had loved him throughout the years. Letting go would take time, but she knew she would never love him again no matter what.
“The cheap bitch is baring her teeth. We might as well put this information out there to teach her a lesson!” Silas was eager to jump at the chance to take Liana down a peg.
“I’ve always had this habit of saving the best for last.” Alyssa narrowed her eyes and smirked. “We only bring out the big guns at the right time. That’s how you devastate.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 14-Jasper escorted Liana into his office under the scrutiny of everyone present in the building. The moment the doors shut behind them, she leaped into the man’s arms and clung to him in tears.” Thank you for coming for me, Jasper. I was so scared…” Jasper’s eyes were impenetrable pools as he pushed her away.
“Jasper…” Liana was puzzled.
“Why did you do it?” His tone was icy, the look in his eyes no less intimidating.
“What do you mean?” “Why did you go to Solana Daily about our marriage?” She breathed a sigh of relief and tried to go back in for another hug. “Because I want to marry you. Don’t you want to marry me?” “I do, but what you did was inappropriate.” His expression remained stern, completely missing his usual gentleness.
“What’s inappropriate? You and Alice aren’t married anymore!” “There are still procedures she and I have to follow through. I also promised Grandpa we’ll only make our divorce official after his 80th birthday.” Jasper stepped back to avoid her. “She’s still my wife in name. You exposing news of the marriage has made everyone involved unhappy. Grandpa is only going to be more dissatisfied with you.” Jasper was, in every way, a straightforward man who considered the pros and cons of every action. he took. He was emotionally stunted even as a child.
Every bit of kindness he could spare was given to Liana, but it didn’t change how direct his words could be. He thought she would understand because they were childhood friends.
It became apparent that she completely failed to grasp the point, and her eyes were red with. anger. “Who’s unhappy? Are you feeling bad for Alice because everyone on the internet is calling her a mistress? Do you feel sorry for her?” “I don’t feel sorry for her, but Alice isn’t some other woman. None of this should’ve happened.” He pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a headache coming on.
“What do you mean? She is the other woman!” She furiously stomped her feet, her high–pitch shrieks causing a fresh wave of pain to course through his temples. “We would’ve gotten together ages ago if it wasn’t for her! It’s all her fault! She took my place by your side for three whole years!” “It’s because Alice became my wife in name for three years that Grandpa is so understanding now. Without her, there’s no chance we could ever be together.” His own words tugged at his heartstrings. That was right. Would his grandfather have allowed him to get together with Liana if Alice hadn’t left when the three years were up?
That woman was always the first one to greet him with a smile when he arrived home. She helped him out of his clothes and prepared his baths. She was the one who took care of everything without saying a word just so she wouldn’t trouble him. She never fought, cried, or caused a fuss. Not a single word of complaint came out of her mouth even after she signed the divorce papers.
Alice may have chosen to leave with Jonah, but there was no denying that she did her part as his wife in the three years they were married. He, meanwhile, saw her as nothing more than a tool. He wanted the three years to be over just so he could be with the person he loved. It was clear he was the one who owed her more.
“Jasper, are you… siding with that woman?” Liana was shocked. When did Jasper become so difficult to read?
“No, I’m just stating facts.” That was when Jasper’s phone began to ring. It was his grandfather. There was no hiding the tension, so he swung open the door to speak with Xavier, who was standing guard outside. “Xavier, have someone escort Ms. Gardner home.” “As you wish, Mr. Jasper.” Xavier motioned for Liana to leave.
“Jasper! I don’t want to go… I’m scared!” She stubbornly clung to his arm with tears in her eyes.
“Don’t be afraid. Don’t accept any media interviews. I’ll handle the rest.” Jasper drove her out of the office with a straight face. Once the door finally shut behind him, he picked up his grandfather’s call whilst nursing a headache.
“Grandpa.” “Jasper Beckett! I see you broke your promise to me. Are you that eager to marry that hussy?” Newton snarled in anger. “Marry that Gardner girl and I’ll see you gone from this family!” “The news was put out by the media, Grandpa. It has nothing to do with me.” “I know it was the Gardner girl who did it! She got anxious because you aren’t in a hurry to get hitched. That’s why she made such a preemptive move!” “It wasn’t Lia. You’ve misunderstood her.” Jasper felt his headache get worse.
After loosening his tie, he leaned against the wall to support himself enough to reach the couch to take a seat. He had to lie to his grandfather who loved him dearly, which left a bitter taste in his mouth. But there was no other choice.
“I forbid you from marrying Liana! You’d better make up with Alice!” Newton got straight to the point. It was clear he was more in favor of Jasper and Alice being together.
“You made a promise, Grandpa. You said I could make my own choice once the three years were up.” Sweat beaded on Jasper’s forehead as his breaths grew ragged. “Alice and I… are already done. I want my wife to be no one else but Lia.” “I see… I see how it is! You blind son of a bitch. I won’t rest until the day you cry in regret over losing Alice!” Newton then hung up.
Jasper let out a heavy exhale as he approached his desk with his head in his hand to take some painkillers. That was the sight Xavier returned to after he sent Liana on her way, and he hurriedly went to help his boss.
“Are you alright, Mr. Jasper? Do you have another headache?” “I’m fine.” Jasper sat down and closed his eyes while massaging his swollen temples.
“Constantly relying on painkillers isn’t good for you. It was Madam Alice who offered you relief through massages and acupuncture in the last three years, right? Why is the pain back again?” Xavier sighed in distress. “It’d be great if Madam Alice were still here. You always sleep peacefully after her acupuncture sessions… ” “Stop talking about her.” Jasper sucked in a breath of frustration.
“Mr. Jasper, about what you discussed with me… I’ve sent someone to look into the matter.” Xavier looked hesitant to speak.
“Speak.” “The person behind the two social media accounts that put Madam Alice’s scandal on blast is… Ms. Gardner.” Jasper snapped to attention, and his heart stopped. “And you confirmed it to be true? How is that possible?” “Y–Yes, sir. I verified it multiple times,” Xavier muttered in fear of repercussion.
“Could everything that happened be a coincidence? All the rumors came to light right after news of your marriage was announced. It’s clear that this was a calculated move.” Jasper slumped over when the truth set in, and powerlessness welled up in him.
“Lià, why did you …” He knew how much Liana loved him and how much she disliked Alice, but it wasn’t right for her to vent this way.
“Deal with it. I don’t care what you do, I want all that gossip off the internet by sundown!” Andrew Gardner, his wife, Rosaline, and his son, Dylan, were all home when Liana was dropped off/ “Good job, Lia! Your trick worked!” Dylan was grinning from ear to ear. “The announcement of your marriage to Jasper Beckett has solved the Gardner Group’s predicament! Hotels and guest houses are now flocking our way to place orders. We’re making so much money!” “You did well, Liana! You saved our family!” Andrew also praised his daughter.
The hotel industry had turned its back on Gardner Group after Taylor Group returned every bedding product manufactured by Elysian Home and permanently severed their partnership. They suffered massive losses when other hotels followed suit in canceling their orders. The incident had left both father and son restless.
It was Liana’s idea to announce news of her marriage to Jasper to save the family’s crumbling business. Sure enough, the results spoke for themselves.
Relying on the Beckett Group was a source of profit! Liana, however, was far from happy. She looked ready to break down. “We saved the business, but do you have any idea the price I had to pay? Jasper and I got into a fight today.
That old man probably hates me even more now!” “What are you so afraid of? Newton Beckett is an old coot who’ll be kicking the bucket in a few years. He’ll be dead before you know it!” Dylan smiled wickedly.
“Aunt Sophia has Javier under control, and you have Jasper by your side. Once that old man is dead, the Beckett family will be ours!” “He’s right, Lia.” Rosaline stroked her daughter’s hair, her eyes sparkling with desire. “Newton can’t stop you from marrying as long as Jasper loves you. Look at your Aunt Sophia.” Liana finally felt comforted and nodded in confidence. She was going to marry into the Beckett family and become the envied wife of a company president!
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 15-Golden rays shone through the clouds as the sun began to set. Jasper was slumped in the back seat of a luxury car that was on its way to Seaview Manor.
“I’ve dealt with the social media accounts that spread gossip about Madam Alice, Mr. Jasper. Their accounts have been shut down, and a lawyer’s letter has also been issued. It should be enough for now. But the news about your marriage… We weren’t able to remove it from the trending searches. Things… are looking difficult.” Xavier looked apologetic.
Jasper looked out the window sullenly. All this while, there were multiple occasions when he wanted to contact Alice upon remembering how badly their last conversation had gone. It was embarrassing having to go through Jonah to speak with her. Even if she did answer, what was he supposed to say? Should he apologize for what happened today? He couldn’t do that. The words wouldn’t come. It felt as if he were being crushed beneath a bolder that was so heavy he could barely breathe.
Just as the Rolls–Royce was about to pull into the vicinity of Seaview Manor, he frowned. “Stop the car.” 1 The chauffeur obeyed and pulled over to the side of the road. Jasper got out before Xavier could ask any questions. His feet carried him across the road to a vintage atelier where well–tailored suits hung by a brightly–lit translucent window. The plaque above read “Eternity,” the same word printed on the box containing the suit that Alice prepared for him.
The wind chimes by the door jingled as he pushed the door open. An old tailor came out to greet him, “Are you here to pick up a custom or would you like to have something tailored?” There was some slight hesitation before Jasper asked, “Was there a woman in her 20s who tailored a men’s suit here roughly a month ago?” “Ah, of course! There was indeed a young woman here! She was quite skilled. I remember her very well!” The old tailor’s eyes lit up. “That woman is very talented at clothing design. I’ve been in the business for over 40 years and even I can’t even compare to her!” “Did she… come here every day?” Jasper asked quietly.
“Yes, she always came on time every morning and stayed until we closed in the evening. I often saw her resting against the desk because she was so tired. She wouldn’t even bother to take a single sip of water while she was here. It was worrying,” the tailor said as he reminisced. “I asked her if she was giving it to her father or her boyfriend, and her face was so red when she said it was for her beloved. I didn’t expect her to be married at such a young age. It made me wonder who the lucky guy was!” Beloved… The word stung like the thorns of a rose.
“The way her eyes shone when she spoke of her beloved, oh she must love her husband very much. Why else would she make clothes by hand where every stitch is filled with love? Oh yes, and you are? Why do you know this?” Jasper swallowed as he tried to sound less suspicious. “I’m her beloved.” The old man was dumbfounded as he scrutinized Jasper. “You two are the perfect match!” Jasper left the atelier as the sun set. It all felt like a dream. Alice loved him? But why would she act like a completely different person and dive into the arms of another man after leaving him when she used to focus her gaze solely on him?
He felt empty. It was a sensation he had never experienced before.
“Why did you visit the atelier, Mr. Jasper? You usually only wear designer fashion. When did your taste for clothing change?” Xavier, the fool, was confused.
“It’s nothing. Let’s go.” His phone started to ring right theh. The amount of harrowing phone calls he was getting was nearly giving him trauma. Frowning, he checked who was calling before he heaved a sigh. It was his best friend, Landon, the scion of the Harper family.
“Hello?” “Let’s go out tonight! Everyone wants to celebrate.” Landon sounded jovial, barely able to keep the teasing out of his tone.
“Celebrate what?” “That depends on you. Are we celebrating your marriage or your divorce?” “Scram.” “Haha! That was a joke! A joke! My new venue is opening today. You should come by as a show of support. How long has it been since we last hung out?
What? Are you done with me now?” Jasper sighed after a moment’s hesitation. “See you tonight.” Alyssa took the helm and prepared a sumptuous meal for Silas that night.
“Lyse, you’re allergic to smoke. I know this kitchen isn’t that bad, but you shouldn’t be inhaling the fumes.” Silas was concerned for his sister’s health after being presented with a table of gourmet food.
“It’s fine. I always do this…” The slip of her tongue made her stop. She had her guard down because she had been so relaxed.
“Holy shit! Were you preparing his meals every day for the past three years? I’m going to teach Jasper a lesson!” Silas was so flabbergasted he nearly flipped the table.
“It’s nothing. It’s only natural for a wife to do that for her husband. It doesn’t matter anymore. I’ll never do that again.” She barked a laugh that didn’t do anything to conceal the loss and sadness in her eyes.
“He took you for granted all these years. From now on, your brothers will take care of you, princess!
At 9 pm, the Harper family’s new nightclub, ACE, was bustling with celebrities who were both famous and affluent. After all, who would pass up the chance to show up at Landon Harper’s new club?
The roaring engine of a limited edition Bugatti had women green with envy and men in tears. Silas, who was in the passenger seat, alighted first. He was dressed casually, which was a change from his meticulous and serious image as a prosecutor. He looked every bit handsome while giving off the air of a person of high society.
Alyssa took her brother by his hand and stepped out of the car. She was in a form–fitting silver halter dress that resembled a galaxy under the flashing lights.
Her hair was carefully styled and cascaded down her back in waves. Her ears were adorned with a pair of unique diamond tassel earrings that brought out her beauty. The men at the entrance couldn’t keep their eyes off her.
Silas wrapped his arms around his sister in fright. “Jesus Christ, aren’t you a little underdressed tonight?” “What? Am I not pretty?” She raised a brow seductively.
“Of course, you are! I just don’t want all these men to latch onto you!” “They can try, but I’ll pull their teeth out if they do. Do you believe me?” She smiled wickedly.
Everyone at the nightclub had their blood pumping with adrenaline from how intoxicating the atmosphere was. Silas didn’t want his sister sitting at the bar and thus ordered a table full of quality wine to stop anyone from approaching.
“I regret coming here with you, Silas. There are so many cute guys around.” Alyssa swirled her wine in her glass and pouted glumly “I just got divorced. You being around deters all my potential suitors!” “F*** me. Just because you got divorced doesn’t mean your market value dropped. Did you come here just to pick a man you’ll be disgusted by?” Silas sat by her side but couldn’t stop himself from cautioning wandering eyes.
Meanwhile, Jasper and Landon walked into a relatively quiet private room on the second floor. The former was dressed in an immaculate suit, and the latter shook his head with a click of his tongue upon seeing it. “Are your suits welded onto you or something? You’re out here to have a good time. If I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought you’re here to negotiate a sale.” “Almost every nightclub in Solana City is going downhill. They lose money annually. Your place isn’t worth my money at all.” Jasper sat down elegantly.
“Hah, so you think just because everyone else is working at a loss, I’d be the same?” “This place isn’t working at a loss?” “It is, but what’s there to fear? I’m so poor all I have left is money. Hahaha!” Landon suddenly fixated on a sight that had him exclaiming out loud, “What a gorgeous woman! She’s dressed like the queen of the night and moves like a princess!” Jasper was never one to spare glances at women. He had no interest at all, which led to Landon forcing him to see for himself. He was fine until what he saw sent blood rushing to his head. “It’s her! Alice! Who’s the man beside her?
Jonah… Taylor?” he thought.
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 16-“Oh my, who’s sitting next to the beauty? Isn’t that Jonah, the president of Belbanks‘ KS Group?” Landon raised an eyebrow mischievously and said teasingly, “Isn’t Jonah known for leading a virtuous life and never setting foot in such a place? Haha, why is he here tonight?” No wonder Jasper and Landon couldn’t recognize him.
Alyssa’s brothers were quadruplets. Among them, the eldest, Jonah, and the second eldest, Silas, looked incredibly similar at first glance. It was easy for someone unfamiliar with them to be mistaken.
“Damn it, I’m jealous. Such a beautiful woman should be my lover. What can Jonah give her?” Landon became more and more excited as he spoke.
Downstairs, Alyssa was smiling sweetly at Silas.
Seeing this, Jasper felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest.
Once upon a time, that smile belonged solely to him.
Not to mention the widespread scandals seemed to have no effect on her. This woman had the audacity to seek pleasure and revel amidst it all!
Meanwhile, he spent the entire day consumed by anguish. He was either busy sorting out the mess or contemplating how to explain things to her.
“Well, how about I claim her for myself tonight? She may be Jonah’s woman, but I can’t care less. Even if there’s a goalkeeper, I can still score.” Landon licked his lips as he spoke, his desires becoming evident.
“Don’t even think about it. She’s my wife.” Landon’s eyes widened in shock.
“My ex–wife,” Jasper corrected himself in an angry tone.
“What? She’s that unromantic and rigid woman you used to be with? Gosh, are you blind, dumb, or both? This woman is an absolute beauty. She’s way better than Liana, that woman you’re obsessed with!” Jasper cast Landon a cold glance, who sheepishly stuck out his tongue. “Well, I was just speaking from the heart. After all, you said she wasn’t anyone worth meeting when I mentioned meeting her. I thought she looked super ugly, but I didn’t expect … Hey, where are you going?” Before he could finish his sentence, Jasper had already stormed out of the room.
Meanwhile, Alyssa and her second brother had a few rounds of drinks, and her fair cheeks were now red.
“Lyse, are you okay?” Silas asked with concern when he noticed Alyssa was getting tipsy.
“One more round! Let’s roll the dice!” Alyssa had decent alcohol tolerance, but worries filled her mind, which was why the booze was getting to her head faster this time.
Just then, Silas received an urgent phone call from his superior. He apologized to Alyssa, “Lyse, please give me a moment. I have to take this call. I’ll be back very soon.” She waved her hand gracefully. “Sure thing!” As soon as Silas left, the men around gradually closed in on Alyssa like sharks sensing blood.
She looked up, her gaze casually sweeping over them as if she were choosing a dish.
This one was too short, that one was too thin, this one had a flat nose, and that one had small eyes.
None of them could compare to her ex–husband.
It was a pity he had a dark heart under that attractive appearance, not to mention he betrayed her love.
At that moment, Alyssa noticed a commotion at a nearby table where several young men were cheering while watching a man pour drinks for a woman.
That man with a disgusting smile happened to be Liana’s brother, Dylan!
To make matters worse, Alyssa spotted one of the rich young men secretly putting something in a drink and passing it to Dylan with her keen eyes.
Instantly, her anger reached its peak. She abruptly stood up and walked toward them.
“Hey! Pretty lady!” The group of men saw Alyssa and were practically drooling.
When Dylan’s gaze fell on this stunning beauty, the woman in his arms suddenly lost her allure.
“It looks like you guys are having fun. Can I join?” Alyssa’s eyes seemed intoxicated, making her appear more seductive.
“Of course, young lady. We’ll do whatever you want,” Dylan said, his gaze filthy as he licked his lips.
Alyssa picked up the drugged drink. “Well then, finish this drink.” The group fell silent, and Dylan’s face fell.
Everyone knew that the drink was laced with a heavy dose of drugs. Only a fool would drink it!
“You’re not drinking it? Then let me feed it to you!” Alyssa’s gaze turned fierce as she said that. She lifted her hand and splashed the contents of the glass on Dylan’s face.
The crowd gasped in astonishment, and the woman let out a frightened scream as she quickly moved aside.
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 17-“Bitch, how dare you splash me in the face? Do you know who I am?” Dylan angrily wiped his face and cursed.
“I don’t care who you are. You drugged a woman and tried to force her to drink it. You’re worse than a dog.” Alyssa casually flicked her hair, her eyes filled with seduction.
Dylan was furious, and his rage was reaching its boiling point. How dare this woman insult him?
If it weren’t for the crowd around them, he would have rushed forward and slapped this despicable woman!
At that moment, two bodyguards from the Gardner family caught up. Dylan immediately signaled them to take her away.
She needed a good beating, and Dylan wanted Alyssa to learn her lesson on the bed.
The two burly bodyguards lunged at Alyssa. Even though she was tipsy, her muscle memory allowed her to swiftly dodge their attacks, causing the two bodyguards to stumble.
“Too slow.” Alyssa yawned.
Capture her!” Dylan shouted angrily as he wiped his face.
One of the bodyguards crawled up and reached out to grab Alyssa’s shoulder.
Unexpectedly, at that moment, a tall figure appeared in front of her and firmly grasped the bodyguard’s arm before swiftly flipping him over.
Instantly, the six–foot–tall man was brought down to the ground!
“Impressive skills!” Alyssa blinked, hiccuped, and swayed with her limp body tilting backward.
Suddenly, a powerful grip supported her slender waist. She felt the man’s deep breath brushing against her cheek. It was hot and ticklish.
“Uh… Who are you? Don’t touch me!” Alyssa struggled.
“Alice, open your eyes and look at who I am.” The voice sounded familiar. It was cold and magnetic yet seductive.
Alyssa’s heart pounded erratically as she slowly raised her gaze, only to meet Jasper’s captivating yet heartless gaze.
Jasper narrowed his eyes.
He stared at her fiery red lips and charming face. If it weren’t for those innocent and pure deer- like eyes, he wouldn’t have been able to recognize her as the Alice he was previously married to for three years.
“Alice White, you’ve grown bolder, haven’t you? Now that you have Jonas‘ support, you’re causing trouble everywhere.” “Yeah, so what? Do you have a problem with that?” Alyssa raised her head proudly and said in a slightly playful voice, “Whenever I see someone with the surname Gardner, I want to beat them up. Do you have any objections?
Even if you do, you can’t stop me!” Jasper couldn’t help but exert more force in the hand supporting her waist as if trying to punish her.
“Ouch… It hurts. Let go of me!” Alyssa stumbled in his embrace. Due to her anger, she felt even drunker, and her voice sounded even softer and more delicate.
What man could resist her like this?
Jasper’s profound gaze turned a shade darker.
“J–Jasper?” Dylan exclaimed, his face pale with shock.
“Mr. Gardner, what do you mean by that?” Jasper coldly stared at him. “Furthermore, Lia and I haven’t officially gotten married yet. Do you think it’s appropriate to address me by my first name?” Dylan was left speechless by the sudden turn of events.
Lia? How disgusting.
Alyssa despised Liana and was equally disgusted with Jasper’s affectionate way of addressing her After three years of marriage, he had never called her anything other than her full name–not even just by her first name.
The more she thought about it, the more heartbroken she felt. She mustered all her strength to break free from Jasper’s arm. She would rather stand unsteadily and swaying than let this. despicable man touch her.
“Apologize to her,” Jasper commanded with a tone that brooked no argument.
Though his words were directed at Dylan, his gaze never left Alyssa for a moment.
After all, she was pretty drunk.
“It was this crazy woman who came at me out of nowhere and splashed me in the face with her drink. She even launched a personal attack on me! She should be the one apologizing!” Dylan’s face displayed evident defiance.
“Watch your mouth and show some respect.” Jasper’s eyes narrowed sharply.
“She’s my ex–wife.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 18-Dylan was so shocked that his jaw nearly dropped to the ground. So this was Jasper’s secret ex- wife. Honestly, her beauty surpassed that of his sister by a considerable margin. His superficial and ostentatious sister wouldn’t stand a chance against this absolute beauty if it weren’t for her childhood friendship with Jasper.
“Mr. Beckett, even if she’s your ex–wife, that doesn’t justify me apologizing to her!” Dylan refused to back down, unwilling to lose face. “If she apologizes first, I’ll pretend this never happened!” “Your men might have done something to her if I hadn’t arrived on time.” Jasper’s expression was as cold as ice. “Just because it didn’t happen doesn’t mean you’re not at fault. Apologize.” Dylan trembled inwardly but maintained his defiant stance.
Alyssa’s face flushed as the effects of the alcohol kicked in.
She only heard something about ex–wife and apology, and she thought, “Does this despicable man expect me to apologize? I might as well twist his head off and use it as a ball!” “Apologizing is too troublesome. In my opinion, we’ll handle it according to my rules. Either send him to the police station and let me play the role of a model citizen, or take him outside and give him a good beating to settle the matter.” The handsome Landon approached them with a mischievous smile on his lips.
He brought two rows of people with him and exuded an intimidating aura.
“Why should I be the one getting beaten? Is there no rule of law anymore?” Dylan’s voice trembled with fear upon seeing Landon.
Landon beckoned with his finger, and the woman who was almost drugged earlier timidly hid behind him.
“Firstly, in my club, these women are here to serve drinks and dance. They never provide personal services to customers. By forcefully making her drink and harassing her, you’ve violated the rules of my establishment.
“Secondly, I don’t tolerate banned substances or drugs in my place. I despise it more than anything when someone engages in such activities here. I consider it light punishment to break the legs of whoever is involved! From what I see, you should be thanking Ms. White here. If she hadn’t stopped you from drugging her, you would’ve already been killed here, Jasper was shocked. So that was what had happened.
“Haha! Well done, man!” Alyssa’s eyes narrowed into crescents as she gave Landon a thumbs up.
“Thanks for the praise.” Landon winked at her.
Jasper felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest as they exchanged flirtatious glances.
“Jasper, what do you think of my suggestion?” Landon asked.
“It’s feasible,” he replied concisely.
“It’s my fault! I’m sorry! Mr. Beckett, I really didn’t know this lady was your ex– wife. I was too ignorant. I’ll be sure to compensate Ms. White. I’m sorry…” Dylan gritted his teeth as he apologized to Alyssa, feeling very frustrated inside.
Jasper still wasn’t satisfied, but then he noticed something.
Alice was gone!
“Looking for your ex–wife? Look over there.” Landon whistled and nodded toward the stage.
Jasper’s eyes narrowed, and his heart skipped a beat.
Amidst the mesmerizing lights and shadows, Alice swayed her slender body, dancing seductively and playfully. She looked like a goddess, outshining everything around her.
She was completely drunk!
She had no idea what she was doing. She felt like a carefree bird flying.
Suddenly, her body leaned back. Amidst the gasps of the crowd, she fell into a firm yet warm embrace.
She struggled to focus and saw Jasper’s handsome face which was filled with anger. Flashing him a silly smile, she said three words, “I feel nauseous.” Jasper dragged Alyssa into the men’s restroom.
She leaned over the toilet and vomited uncontrollably. No matter how beautiful someone was, they wouldn’t look pretty under such circumstances.
At first, Jasper stood by the door and watched her coldly. However, when he saw her suffering, he walked up behind her and gently patted her trembling back.
After Alyssa finished vomiting, she stumbled to the sink and washed her mouth.
“Ugh… I feel terrible…” “Then why did you drink? You brought this upon yourself.” Jasper stood by the side, eyebrows furrowed with coldness.
“Because… I’m sad. I feel terrible.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 19-Alyssa’s mind was clouded, and she even mistook Jasper for her brother. She choked and cried, ” Why doesn’t Jasper like me? Why …” Jasper’s heart skipped a beat, his thin lips tightly pressed together as he listened to her lament.
“I tried so hard. I really tried. But it seems the harder I tried, the more he disliked me. Why is that?
Tell me!” Suddenly, she turned around and clung to Jasper while sobbing heavily in his chest. Her tears, running nose, and makeup smeared his clean shirt.
He stood rooted to the ground, his throat tightening as he felt her scorching tears searing into his chest and saturating his heart.
After a while, his voice deepened as he asked, “Do you really love Jasper?” Alyssa raised her tear–stained face, her cherry lips slightly parted.
Jasper gulped as he struggled against the strong temptation of pure desire. He regretted asking that question.
So what if she loved him? So what if she didn’t? Their divorce was a done deal, and his life partner could only be Liana.
With a loud bang, the restroom door was kicked open.
“Jasper! How can you be so shameless? Can’t you be satisfied with what you have?” Silas‘ eyes turned red with anger. Striding into the restroom, he pulled Alyssa into his arms and protected her like an mother hen guarding its chick.
Jasper’s elegant eyebrows furrowed tightly, and the fact that Silas, who usually carried himself with grace, was furious to this extent showed how much he cared about his ex–wife.
He felt somewhat suffocated.
“Mr. Jonah, she has a low alcohol tolerance and vomited heavily just now. If you truly care about her, you shouldn’t have brought her to a place like this.” Silas was about to retort, but hearing Jasper addressing him as Jonah, he decided to play along and assumed the role of Jonah. “I’ll accompany my woman to do whatever she wants to. If she likes to have fun, I’ll have fun with her. Jasper, you and Alice are divorced. Stop sticking your nose into her business. Go back and take care of Ms. Gardner!” With that, Silas helped Alyssa walk toward the exit, but Jasper stopped him.
“What do you think you’re doing?” “Do you really love her?” Jasper asked in a low voice.
“Of course.” “Can you marry her?” This question left Silas speechless.
“What does it have to do with you? Get out of my way!” “Alice doesn’t have power or background and can’t withstand these emotional games. If you can’t marry her and only treat her as a lover, then don’t drag her down. Let her return to a normal life as soon as possible.” Jasper’s eyes darkened.
“Hahaha. Jasper, I’ve never met someone as shameless as you. When you divorced Alice for Liana, did you ever think about Alice’s situation? Thanks to you, she became a divorcée at a young age. Don’t you think that’s dragging her down? Since divorce was a given, why did you marry her three years ago?
Weren’t you just using her so that you could marry your true love? How disgusting!” T Jasper felt a sharp pang in his chest, and his sturdy body, concealed beneath his suit, trembled faintly.
Silas forcefully shoved him and said, “Get out from my sight, you cheater!” Jasper didn’t know how to respond. All he could think of was how he’d been accused of using Alice and was called a cheater.
“Where’s your ex–wife? Did she leave?” Landon leaned against the railing, sipping his drink while observing Jasper’s dazed and desolate appearance.
Jasper muttered in response. He picked up his whiskey glass and downed it in one gulp, feeling a burning sensation in his throat.
“If it weren’t for you, I would have definitely beaten Dylan to a pulp tonight.
Using drugs is bad enough, but he even dared to make advances on my crush.
He’s asking for death.” “You don’t have to be considerate. Liana and her brother are separate individuals.” Suddenly, realization dawned on Jasper, and his brows furrowed slightly. “Crush? What do you mean?” “I thought I might as well take Alice since you don’t want her anymore. Since you gave up on her I’ll gladly step in.” Landon raised an eyebrow and smirked as he continued, “She’s going to become like your sister–in–law. I wonder if you can adapt to that.” “The divorce isn’t even finalized yet, and you’re already eager to claim her as yours?” Jasper’s eyes darkened, and his lips curled up into a cold smile.
“Well, you’ve already signed the divorce agreement, so it’s just a matter of time.” “I don’t know about anything else,” Jasper clenched his fingers, and his face darkened, “but your death is not far off.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 20-The next day, Alyssa woke up and vomited again.
“Lyse, I remember you used to have a good tolerance for alcohol. How did it get so bad?” Silas hurriedly handed her a glass of water and brought her some hangover medicine.
“I haven’t had a drink in three years and suddenly drank so much yesterday. Of course, I couldn’t handle it.” Alyssa knew Jasper disliked women reeking of alcohol, so she quit drinking during their three years of marriage.
“If I didn’t know you were dunk last night, I would have thought you were pregnant,” Silas teased her.
“Haha. What would you guys do if I really got pregnant with Jasper’s child?” A subtle look of pain flashed across her eyes.
“What else can we do? Of course, we’ll take care of the child together.
Regardless of who the father of the baby is, it’s innocent.” Although Silas hated Jasper to the core, his values were upright, probably due to his profession as a legal practitioner.
“Don’t worry. Do you think I’ll want to bear Jasper’s child?” Alyssa sneered and took a sip of water to clear her throat.
Silas asked, “By the way, do you remember what happened last night?” “I remember I got into trouble with Dylan, and it seems like… Jasper came?
After that, I don’t remember anything.” “You really don’t remember?” “I think I saw a handsome guy helping me out. Gosh, I was too drunk at the time. Otherwise, I would have definitely asked for his number.” “That was Landon. We went to his newly opened club last night.” As soon as Alyssa heard the name of the infamous Landon, she lost all interest.
“Forget it. That kid is a disaster wherever he goes.
“Do you know that Jasper dragged you into the men’s restroom after that?” Alyssa widened her eyes in shock.
“I don’t know what you two were up to, but when I went in, I saw you hugging him and wiping your nose on his body.” Silas shook his head repeatedly, unable to bear the memories.
Alyssa gasped. She was speechless.
“Lyse, if I hadn’t arrived in time to take you away, that brat might have…” “It wouldn’t have happened. Jasper isn’t like Landon,” Alyssa said, rubbing her temples in annoyance.
“And now you’re defending him!” “I’m not defending him! Besides being cold, emotionally ignorant, and hating me, he can still be considered a gentleman,” she continued, feeling a pang in her heart after saying those words.
“But I didn’t know what got into Jas last night. He actually asked me if I would marry you and told me not to play with your feelings. He said you couldn’t handle the game of love because you’re from a small family.” Silas‘ lips curled with a hint of mockery. “Don’t you think he’s too much of a busybody with nothing better to do? He can’t even settle his own matters yet he’s worrying about other stuff.” “Wait, why did he bring this up out of nowhere with you?” “Because he mistook me for Jonah, so I just went along with it and told him not to touch my woman in the future. Hmph, he must’ve been frustrated by that,” Silas explained proudly.
“Damn it. Go to hell!” Alyssa exclaimed in anger and landed a punch on Silas‘ handsome face.
Knowing that Alyssa had been drinking last night, Sean prepared a light and delicious breakfast. He specifically made food that was good for hangovers for her.
Wearing a pink silk slip dress, Alyssa came down for breakfast with her long hair flowing freely. Although she wore underwear underneath, it was still too revealing and S**y.
Sean’s face instantly flushed red, and he quickly averted his gaze, not daring to look at her closely “Hey! There are two men in the house. Can you consider our feelings?” Silas lightly rubbed his swollen cheek while staring at Alyssa with an annoyed expression.
“I’ve been wearing white sneakers and dresses for three years. Now, I want to wear whatever I want. Nobody can stop me.” Alyssa rolled her eyes and bit on her bread furiously.
“Why did you wear only white sneakers and dresses for three years? Ms.
Alyssa, were you teaching in the countryside? Will you corrupt the future of our country with your teaching?” Sean asked solemnly.
“Shut up!” the siblings exclaimed in unison.
Donning delicate makeup, a white suit dress, and Jimmy Choo shoes, Alyssa transformed into a stunning female executive again as she visited the hotel. She was glowing. 1 However, her head was throbbing due to the hangover.
Sitting in her office, Alyssa recalled her conversation with Silas in the morning and felt mixed emotions.
Did Jasper really care about her when he helped her last night and said those things to Silas?
No way. It was impossible. Jasper’s selfish possessiveness was only triggered because he saw his former lover with a new guy:
