Ch. 511..520
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 511-Rain, rock, mud, and fog-those were the only things Alyssa could recall before losing consciousness.
She had used the last ounce of strength in her lithe body to push the hiker up toward the patrol team. All she hoped was that the hiker would be safe and sound.
Alyssa couldn’t call herself a competent park ranger and wear her badges if she hadn’t prepared herself for the risk of death. She wasn’t afraid of it as long as it was a meaningful death.
Frankly, she didn’t used to be so brave. In fact, she used to whine and cry whenever her father and stepmothers tried to bring her to the doctor for a shot.
She was 11 when she met him. That was when everything changed.
His bravado and determination were like the lighthouse she needed to guide her out from dark waters.
How he had intercepted danger to rescue her had permanently shifted her outlook on life.
It was the first time she had witnessed how selfless one could be for another.
Even if he had hurt her countless times after they married, Alyssa still couldn’t deny it.
She couldn’t deny just how much Jasper had changed her life for the better.
It was as if he had rewritten the very stars.
Everything seemed to happen in a flash.
Alyssa had a strange dream. In it, her parents and brothers celebrated her childhood birthday with her.
Jonah lifted her into his arms and placed her onto a mountain of presents while Silas sang her “Happy Birthday” off-key.
Liam raised her birthday cake to her lips, where she blew the candles out while Axel placed a toy gun in her hand.
Jasper also appeared in her dreams, with vivid recollections of the battles they fought together on the battlefield, the first time she saw him while tending to Newton, and the cold-hearted manner in which he handed her divorce papers, ultimately driving her away.
A sudden pain spread out from the center of her chest, flooding her head and limbs.
Alyssa jolted awake, taking loud, hurried breaths as her body came back online.
The sweat and rain on +15 BONUS “I’m still alive… I’m alive!” she cried, tears of relief falling down her cheeks.
If it wasn’t for that bastard and the hurt he had caused her, she might not have woken up from her deathlike sleep!
Just then, she recalled that she was still in danger.
She had been washed away to some unknown location, her backpack hanging limply on a nearby branch.
while she remained half-buried in rubble and rock off a ledge. She was nearly buried alive at this point.
“Shit!” Alyssa forced herself to calm down.
She muttered to herself, “I cannot die. I mustn’t! What would happen to Winston if I did? To Jonah and Silas and Liam and … If I’m still alive, that means it’s not my time yet! I decide when I want to go!” Just then, the branch above her let loose a loud snap.
Alyssa dared not say another word. She quickly pulled herself out from the rock and climbed onto safer ground. Just as she did, the branch above her snapped in half.
The longer end fell right into the bottomless pit of the mountainside beneath her feet.
Alyssa’s heart nearly leaped from her throat at the sight, but she couldn’t be bothered to feel scared. She needed to find a way to make it to higher ground so she could call for help!
The wind and rain picked up, water clouding her vision while chills racked her limbs.
The only thing keeping her climbing right now was her determined will to survive.
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 512-Alyssa had been raised by her three stepmothers from a young age due to her birth mother’s early passing.
Naturally, their habits, such as Colene’s horse-riding, archery, and rock-climbing hobbies, assimilated into her own.
Fortunately, those hobbies were a lifesaver, as she couldn’t imagine how she would survive in her current situation without them.
As Alyssa was about to reach the mountain trail above, there suddenly came rumbling by her feet. Rock and sand snaked past her hands. Another landslide was coming fast!
“Damn it! Is this what I get for doing charity for all these years?” Alyssa yelled indignantly.
The rock beneath her feet suddenly shifted and tumbled from its ledge at that precise moment, leaving her body dangling precariously.
“Help!” Despair and fear washed over her.
An immeasurably long fall awaited her below. She was going to die falling, and no one would ever find her.
A tear escaped her eye as she shut them tight, awaiting her fate.
“Alyssa!” Suddenly, a pair of hands wrapped around her wrists and pulled her back to solid ground.
She slowly opened her eyes.
Jasper was staring right at her, his eyes wide and seemingly delving into her very soul. Her breathing hitched.
“J-Jasper?” Was she dreaming right now? Or hallucinating?
Her heart pounded violently in her chest.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here now!” Jasper saw a conflict of emotions on her face, everything from fear to joy to worry, all directed right at his beating heart. He pulled her up some more, his grip on her arm even quivering slightly.
He could feel the ground beneath them slipping, the rock falling off the ledge. If they didn’t move right now, both of them might fall to their deaths.
*Jasper…” Alyssa mumbled, tears falling down her cheeks. “I don’t want to die…” +15 BONUS She had transcended all her limits of strength in making it so far up here on the mountain. The moment she saw Jasper, her last wall fell, revealing the frightened young woman within.
Jasper couldn’t bear seeing her so upset. All he wanted was to keep her safe.
“You can cry all you want later. Now, just try and push yourself up!” Alyssa sniffled and quickly climbed back up the side of the mountain.
“Hurry! This ledge won’t hold on much longer!” Jasper yelled.
“I know! I’m trying!” Alyssa roared back.
Jasper cocked his head. Her cuteness had evaporated with that yell.
Suddenly, a lightning strike lit up their surroundings, casting Alyssa’s visage in vivid clarity, as if a hidden truth had been exposed.
A sudden headache overwhelmed Jasper. All of a sudden, Alyssa’s expression fused with that of a young girl from years ago.
Faint yet familiar memories swam in his head.
“What’s your name, kid?” “You’re not telling me? I’ll call you Alice then. You’re like Alice from Alice in Wonderland, short and cutelooking.” There was a buzzing in Jasper’s ears as realization hit him like a truck.
Alice… Alice White.
Alyssa was the girl he had rescued 13 years ago.
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 513-It was as though Jasper was adrift in a pool of pure astonishment, and the fact that the ledge beneath them was falling apart only enhanced this surreal feeling.
“Hurry, Alice!” he cried, resurrecting a name that had been dormant in his mind for years.
Alyssa jolted in shock. The call of that name seemed to give her a boost of adrenaline. She was able to push herself up on the ledge at the last second, right into Jasper’s arms.
He held her close in his arms, keeping her safe.
A thunderous boom echoed through the air.
Just as the rocky ledge disintegrated and tumbled down the mountainside, Jasper deftly rolled aside, narrowly escaping the peril.
“Fuck!” he hissed in pain when his back collided with a boulder. The intensity of the pain led to an immediate outbreak of sweat on his skin.
“Are you hurt?” Alyssa asked worriedly, noticing how pale he was.
Jasper shook his head, his voice steady as he reassured, “I’m okay.” Alyssa heaved a sigh of relief, falling back against his chest. By now, both were thoroughly drenched and shivering from the cold.
“Why… Why didn’t you tell me?” Jasper asked hoarsely, gazing at her.
“What?” Alyssa avoided his gaze.
“Why didn’t you tell me that we met 13 years ago? Why didn’t you tell me you were the girl I saved all those years ago?” Jasper asked, pain and anguish flooding his chest.
Alyssa’s throat clamped in on itself.
Did he call her Alice because of that? Because he suddenly remembered?
But why now?
Why, only after 13 years?
It was too late now. How she wished he had never remembered.
“Tell me, Alyssa!” Jasper asked, forcing her to meet his gaze.
+15 BONUS “Now, do you remember why I called myself Alice when we married?” she asked solemnly.
Needles pricked Jasper’s heart. Of course he did.
He had given her that nickname because she refused to answer when he asked. He named her “Alice”, like Alice in Wonderland.
Never in his wildest dreams did Jasper imagine that a seemingly trivial and longforgotten memory would resurface, ultimately intertwining their lives 13 years later. She had even married him.
She kept it secret for so long, too.
“Looks like you do.” Alyssa smiled lightly. “There’s no need to, really. I never hoped you would. I’m nothing more than another passerby in your life, after all. Whether it was 13 years, three years, or right now.” Jasper’s breathing hitched.
Technically, there was nothing amiss in his complete forgetfulness of her or in his act of saving her from 13 years ago. Yet, he couldn’t stop the guilt weighing on his chest.
Alyssa had kept him in her heart for 13 years, yet he had forgotten her. All she ever did was try closing their distance, unlike him, who only wanted to shut her out.
“I’m sorry…” Jasper croaked out. “I … really didn’t know… If I knew, I-” “You would have still divorced me, no?” Alyssa’s smile widened. Though she had her regrets about him, she wasn’t holding on anymore.
She continued, “Whether I’m Alyssa or Alice, they’re nothing more than just names. It wouldn’t change our relationship. You don’t need to apologize, really. I should be the one thanking you.
“When you saved me all those years ago, I never got a chance to know your name or who you are, nor … properly thank you.” “Why did you still marry me, Alyssa?” Jasper wanted to know the answer to this.
It had tortured him for months on end. “Is it just because I saved you once, and you wanted to pay me back?” ‘It doesn’t matter anymore, Jasper. It’s all in the past now. No point digging up a failed marriage.” Alyssa closed her eyes, as if closing a tender place in her heart away.
Then she said, “We need to focus on getting to safety right now. I’m freezing here.” There seemed to be an unspoken truce between them as they waded through the thunderstorm.
+15 BONUS All they had was each other right now. Even their phones were out of use.
Alyssa’s had long broken in the fall, while Jasper’s had no signal.
With ragged breaths, Alyssa rasped, “All I can tell is that we’re situated behind Crater Mountain’s main trail. If we were closer, your phone would have a signal.” She had long lost her main reserves of energy.
The only thing that propelled her onward was her determination not to fall behind Jasper, even though her legs felt completely detached from her body.
“I’ve already told Xavier to do a helicopter rounding earlier before coming to find you.” Jasper hurriedly hooked an arm around her waist to keep her from falling.
“In this weather? That’s a tough one. He should…” Unable to hold on anymore, Alyssa fell forward.
Jasper swiftly gathered her into his arms. She smelled of rain and dirt and nothing else.
His heart twinged.
Just how much had she been through before he found her?
“Let’s find shelter from the rain first.” Jasper carried her on his back and continued walking.
Alyssa’s arms weakly wrapped around his neck as she mewled, “Will we get out of here alive, Jasper?” “Yes.” “I nearly died… What if …” “I heard they call you the Mountain Goddess here.” Jasper walked on, his strength slowly dissipating.
“They sometimes call me the Mountain God, too.” “Alyssa scoffed and closed her eyes.
“So we’re going to be just fine, Alyssa.” Jasper took a deep breath, gently tugging on her hand. “I’ll keep you safe.”
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 514-All Alyssa could feel in the endless cold was how warm her hands were.
Jasper heid onto her hands, making sure her fingers were kept safe from the harsh weather. It felt like the only thing keeping her near-dead nerves alive.
She leaned on his back, knowing he would keep her safe. Her fingers twitched just the slightest in Jasper’s grasp.
Jasper swallowed nervously. Fearing she might pull away, he tightened his grip.
“Stay still. Good girl.” His back was hurting like mad where the boulder had hit his spine. Still, he was doing a good job of hiding his pain. He didn’t want her to worry.
Just this once, Jasper wanted her to know she could rely on and be safe with him.
“Ugh… It’s cold. Hurry up then…” Alyssa grumbled.
“Hold on a bit longer. We should be able to find shelter soon.” Every breath Jasper took evaporated into mist.
“What if we don’t?” Before Jasper could stop himself, he responded, “Then you can take shelter in my arms.” H “No!” Alyssa whined. “Don’t you dare try and take advantage of me!” Jasper smiled. Though she wasn’t staying very still, he still could support her weight. Even his heart felt warm and glad for this moment with her.
He should really focus on finding shelter for them, though. It was not like she could run away from him right now.
The two stayed close to one another, their breathing and heartbeats nearly in sync.
It was as if time had turned back to 13 years ago-the only change being that Alyssa was no longer the young girl he had met. She had even married him and been his wife for three years.
Meanwhile, Sean had rushed back to the base camp with only an umbrella for protection from the rain, having been worried about Alyssa.
Upon his arrival, he was soaked through with rainwater and had mud caked at the ends of his pants.
+15 BONUS “Ms. Alyssal’ he cried right before opening the doors.
Elijah and Xavier just so happened to walk out.
“You!” Xavier exclaimed in shock, then quickly composed himself.
“What are you… is Jasper Beckett here? Where’s Ms. Alyssa?” Sean had a nagging sense that something was very wrong right now, “Quiet down, will you?” Xavier quickly shut him up. He was just as worried, but he trusted that Alyssa would be kept safe and protected by the forces above. He also had faith that his boss would be able to do the same.
“Mr. Jasper and the rest of the rangers are up in the mountains looking for Madam. I’ve already dispatched three helicopters to search for them, too, and Mr. Jasper has sworn not to come back down the mountain until he finds her!” Sean couldn’t help but reel at Xavier’s words. He couldn’t believe someone as cruel as Jasper would be so devoted to Alyssa.
“It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have let Alice go out on the search patrol!” Elijah wailed.
“Don’t say that, sir. Have some faith in Mr. Jasper. He’s the ‘Mountain God’ for a reason, no?” Elijah was rendered speechless.
Xavier was really good at making the atmosphere awkward.
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 515-“No, I don’t trust Jasper Beckett! Mr. Jonah needs to hear about this!” Sean hurriedly pulled out his phone to give Jonah call.
When the line connected, Jonah instantly asked, “Did something happen to Alyssa?” Maybe it was because of their sibling bond, but he had felt off all day. Now that Sean had called him, he was sure something terrible had happened to his sister.
“Sir!” Sean cried, “Ms. Alyssa is… You need to send someone to Crater Mountain Park to save her now!” Jonah had been over 300 miles outside Solana City when he received the call from Sean. He was currently in Leichtown’s military department.
Since he’d stopped by, he naturally had to pay his brother Liam a visit. His mother had birthed the four of them, including Alyssa, so his love for all his three brothers and his sister went unrivaled.
However, Liam had to live apart from their family, given that he had become a colonel at the age of 28.
He had to be stationed in Leichtown, where he headed the local military force.
That was why Jonah would always take the opportunity to see his third brother.
“Something has happened to Lyse, Liam. I need to return to Solana City right away.” Worry colored Jonah’s eyes.
“What did you say?” Liam leaped up from the couch he was sitting on, instantly becoming alert. His usually cool and calm demeanor had dissipated in seconds upon hearing that his sister was in trouble.
Jonah replied hoarsely, “Our beloved Lyse has gone to volunteer as a park ranger once again.” Liam cursed aloud, marching back and forth worriedly. If any of his subordinates saw him right now, they would probably think they were dreaming.
“I’ve told her countless times to just donate money instead of going on those ranger patrols. All she does is put herself in harm’s way! But she never listens!” Jonah huffed.
“I don’t understand why she insists on going there. Are there any mineral mines, or does she visit some hermit to learn the arcane arts there?” Liam scowled. All of a sudden, he appeared so much like their father, Winston.
Jonah shot him a long look. “Did you forget what happened to her when she was 11?” “Of course not!” Liam’s eyes narrowed as he heaved a sigh. “That… bastard Jasper kid!” +15 BONUS “The longer I live, the more I’m convinced Mom gave birth to the four of us so we could protect her.” Jonah also heaved a sigh. He turned to leave. “I need to go save her. We’ll talk again soon, Liam.” “Wait up!” Liam cried, putting on his cap. “I’m coming with you!” It was unclear how much time had passed before Jasper eventually stumbled upon a small cave in the mountainside for their shelter.
Trembling violently, Alyssa sought refuge against the rock wall, her arms wrapped around her in an attempt to stay warm.
The sight of her looking so fragile tugged at Jasper’s heartstrings. He went up and gently cupped her frigid cheeks.
His expression darkened. Alyssa was burning up.
“You’re having a fever!” “I’m… I’m okay. I can handle it.” Alyssa allowed herself to feel the coolness of his touch on her skin, not shying away for once.
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 516-Jasper hurriedly felt the temperature of her forehead. Feeling panicked, he took off his coat and shirt and wrapped them around Alyssa, giving her warmth.
Alyssa weakly opened her eyes and saw that he only had a black singlet inside.
The tan lines of his muscle were right in her face, making him look extra rugged out here in the wild.
“Is it still cold?” Jasper asked hoarsely, noticing her reddened face.
“Yes… It’s fr-freezing…” Alyssa said, her teeth chattering.
Jasper took a deep breath and slowly held her in his arms, pressing her against his chest, as if hoping she could soak up all the warmth he wanted to give.
“Still cold?” he asked softly.
Alyssa leaned against his body, nuzzling into his chest.
Jasper sighed, one hand gently combing through her hair as if he was trying to console her.
Alyssa slowly relaxed in his arms, exhaustion making her body go limp.
Jasper allowed her, silently bringing her hands up so he could check for injuries.
Bruises and cuts lined her fingers. Dirt and gravel were caked up under her nails.
He pursed his lips. He couldn’t shake the memory of Alyssa’s resolute will to survive on the mountainside from his mind.
Pain lanced through his heart.
“Don’t risk yourself like this again, okay, Alyssa? You’re not some cat with nine lives!” Jasper huffed, actually upset now.
“Tsk… Why do you care?” Alyssa grumbled, mind heavy and dizzy.
Until now, she remained as loud and adamant as ever.
“Why?” Jasper’s face took on a reddish hue. “Can’t you tell?” “No, I can’t. Tell me.” Words eluded Jasper, and in the end, he couldn’t go through with it.
“Hmph! Whatever. It has nothing to do with me anyway,” Alyssa scoffed and shut her eyes once again, too.
exhausted to care.
+15 BONUS All she wanted to do now was take a hot bath and fall asleep in her large, comfy bed. She was so tired.
“Why did you marry me, Alyssa? Is it all because I saved your life once? All to return the favor?” Jasper pressed her hand against his heart.
Part of Alyssa’s inhibitions were gone now due to her fever. She couldn’t even retort anymore, “I married you because I loved you.” Jasper’s heart skipped a beat.
“I’ve always hoped to marry you and never expected it to come true.” Tears filled Alyssa’s eyes, though they never fell. “I spent 13 years trying to catch up to you, Jasper. My entire youth was spent on you.” “What about now? Do you still love me, Alyssa?” Jasper asked, dying to know the answer.
She gently pulled her injured hand out from his grasp, as if safeguarding her pained heart from more suffering.
Until now, her heart still hurt for him.
“I don’t feel angry anymore. There’s no hate to be found, either. Naturally, there wouldn’t be any love lingering on.”
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 517-No love lingering on.
Alyssa couldn’t lie. Pain swept through her chest when she said those words out loud.
This pain had become a familiar companion. It was a constant presence in her three years of marriage to Jasper, and she often worried it might trigger a heart attack. It struck her more often than the occasions when Jasper spent time with her.
“What’s the point of asking all this now, Jasper? Do you still expect me to feel the same way for you and not move on?” Alyssa asked weakly. She rarely appeared so fragile in front of others.
She continued, “I’ve loved you for 13 years. Tell me, how many more years could I possibly sacrifice? I can’t bring myself to love you anymore. I’m afraid to.” She was scared of loving anyone else at this point.
It felt like someone was squeezing Jasper’s heart. Painful emotion rose like a wave in his throat, cutting his breath off.
He suddenly realized just how vile he had been. Not only had he dragged her down in this meaningless marriage, but he had also ruined her.
“Are you telling the truth, Alyssa?” Jasper asked, knowing he would be defeated by her answer in the end.
Nevertheless, he still tried.
“Of course. When have I ever lied to you?” Alyssa said softly. “I was telling the truth when I said I loved you, when I said I didn’t want the divorce, and when I cried those tears… Of course I wouldn’t lie when I say I don’t love you anymore.” “Alyssa…” Jasper’s eyes were hot with unshed tears. He held her hand. It felt so cold. He couldn’t keep it warm anymore.
“Thank you for saving me once again, Jasper. I owe you one. I’ll definitely pay back the favor as long as your request isn’t too outrageous,” Alyssa said.
It was clear she was setting up boundaries between them once again.
Jasper meant to say something in response, but she had fallen asleep on his shoulder.
He watched her as she did, her flushed cheeks standing out on her pallid complexion, reminiscent of a delicate bunny. He hugged her closer, reminiscing on the countless chances he had before to do this.
+15 BONUS He had passed those chances by already. So he was going to appreciate this opportunity here and now as much as he could.
Jasper could only blame himself for how things had turned out.
The walkie-talkie wasn’t functioning in this weather, nor could his phone pick up any signal. Though Jasper wanted this moment to last forever, he knew it couldn’t, not with Alyssa running a high fever.
Panicked, he kept on feeling for her temperature and pulse.
He had to try to reduce the fever and signal for help. Only then the helicopters and rescue team could find them.
Finally, Jasper went out into the rain to find some dried twigs and branches. He created a fire by the cave entrance to alert any rescuers. Afterward, he made a fire inside the cave so Alyssa could stay warm.
The orange flames lit up Alyssa’s face, highlighting how deeply she rested.
Jasper’s gaze grew warm as his eyes traced the contours of her face.
“Jasper …” Alyssa suddenly mumbled in her sleep.
“I’m here, Alyssa.” Jasper knelt by her side. “Do you feel warmer?” “You… asshole, Jasper Beckett!” Alyssa suddenly cried. She was having a nightmare.
Next thing Jasper knew, she had swung a hand right in his face.
It didn’t hurt, though. It felt like a feather grazing his cheek.
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 518-Jasper shook his head gently. Alyssa wasn’t even forgiving him in her dreams. It seemed he would need to dedicate his entire life to making things right with her.
While he considered committing his entire life, he abruptly halted his thoughts and questioned why he had such notions. It made him wonder if he had started to have feelings for her.
Jasper’s heart thumped wildly as he pondered on that for a bit. He leaned down and gathered Alyssa into his arms before gently kissing her.
“Mm…” she moaned softly.
Jasper deepened the kiss. All he wanted was to hold her and kiss her longer.
Just then, a flurry of wind swept up from outside the cave. It was a helicopter.
“Someone’s here to save us, Alyssa! We’re being rescued!” Jasper cried excitedly.
The helicopter landed in front of the cave under the battering of the rain. Jasper squinted as he looked at its decal.
It was not one of his copters.
Then, who had come to their rescue?
No matter.
All that mattered now was that Alyssa could get the treatment she needed.
Jasper lifted her into his arms while she was still bundled up tight in his clothes and walked out toward the helicopter.
“Lyse!” There came two distinct cries at the same time as Jonah and Liam stepped off the helicopter.
Jasper was shocked when he noticed Liam. He was fully clad in his military outfit. He felt like he was looking through a mirror from yesteryears.
Even though he was a CEO now, staying in air-conditioned offices every day atop his family’s business empire, he could never forget his time in the army, Now was not the time to reminisce, however. Jasper was more concerned about who this man was to.
Alyssa.
‘Hand her over to me right now!” Liam roared, anger evident in his tone and demeanor.
+15 BONUS Unlike Liam who had never met Jasper, Jonah was doing a very good job at keeping cool. He cocked his head lightly when he noticed Jasper was clad in barely anything in this cold weather while Alyssa was wrapped in his clothes.
“Lyse… What’s wrong with her?” Liam cried, storming up to Jasper. The latter instinctively stepped back, coldly eyeing him up and down.
“Who are you?” Jasper asked.
Jonah answered him by saying, “He’s Alyssa’s third brother.” Jasper’s eyes widened in shock.
Though Liam didn’t resemble his brother much, Jasper could still find traces of Axel on his face. He just didn’t realize it at first glance.
Jasper never knew Alyssa had a brother who was involved in the military! And at such a high ranking, too!
He pursed his lips, his grip around Alyssa tightening.
For the first time in his life, jealousy bubbled sourly in the pit of his stomach.
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 519-“Lyse…” Liam teared up, feeling bad for Alyssa. He attempted to get her out of Jasper’s arms.
Jonah might seem the gentlest among the four sons by Alyssa’s mom, but that wasn’t true at all.
Liam always projected a stoic and aloof image due to the requirements of his profession. Yet, in reality, he was the most soft-hearted and emotional among the Taylor siblings.
He had even shed tears beneath his blanket the year he couldn’t make it home for Alyssa’s birthday due to a mission, which went to show his sensitive nature, “I’ll hold her,” Jasper refused to let go of Alyssa as he looked at her.
“You have no right to touch her!” Liam growled at him upon thinking of his poor, divorced sister. “Don’t forget the way you abandoned and hurt her! Stop pretending to be a saint. I wouldn’t thank you even if you saved her.” “I never wanted to be thanked.” Jasper paused before adding, “She means a lot to me. I admit that I had hurt her in the past. What I’m doing now is making amends.” “No, you can never make amends,” Liam interjected sternly. “If you knew this would happen, you should not have hurt her in the first place. You took the light out of my bright, carefree sister. You will never make up for that, even if you put your life on the line!” Jasper froze on the spot, as if he was struck by lightning.
“Home… I want to go home…” Alyssa trembled and murmured feverishly in her sleep, cradled in Jasper’s arms.
“Lyse, I’ll take you home!” Liam took Alyssa from Jasper without another word.
The moment he scooped her soft body up, she surprisingly grabbed Jasper’s black shirt tightly and wouldn’t let go.
“Don’t go… Don’t …” she mumbled between consciousness.
“I’m not leaving. How could I leave you behind when you’re running a fever?” Jasper whispered. His usual steely demeanor gave way to a softer side.
He turned to Liam and pleaded, “Let me send her to the hospital. I’ll leave once she’s there.” “Dream on!” Liam glowered at him and barked.
“Liam,” Jonah called out to his sibling and approached him. “Let’s send her to the hospital with Mr.
Beckett ” +15 BONUS “But Jonah-” *Anyway, Mr. Beckett, I’ll have to thank you for saving Lyse. Do get on the plane with us,” Jonah calmly extended an invitation.
Jasper felt his heart squeezed and replied dejectedly, “Thanks.” Once again, he gently wrapped Alyssa in his arms like recouping something he had lost.
The helicopter Xavier sent over had arrived then, but Jasper gestured at it to return. Then, he boarded the helicopter with Jonah and Liam.
The helicopter took off into the night. All the while, Jasper never let go of Alyssa.
Liam touched her warm forehead. He breathed heavily as tears brimmed in his eyes. He called out to her, “Lyse, open your eyes. I’m by your side. I’m back.” “Liam, it’s just a fever. Don’t worry too much,” Jonah reassured his brother despite his own worries.
“Ms. Alyssa has gone through a lot. She almost fell off the cliff today,” Jasper stated, his gaze fixed on her. The memory of that harrowing moment still haunted him.
That caught Jonah and Liam off guard. They were gripped by lingering fear in the aftermath.
“I merely offered her a helping hand. She saved herself,” Jasper explained.
“Jasper Beckett, you’re really a piece of shit,” seethed Liam. “You are the source of all her suffering.” “I know. It’s all my fault,” admitted Jasper. After all the ups and downs in life, he finally grasped the cruelty of his actions toward Alyssa. Hence, he humbly accepted all criticisms directed at him.
“Why did you marry her if you didn’t love her? Why did you give her false hope?” Liam glared at him. through tears that had rolled down his cheeks.
Liam added, “She is fond of this mountain. It’s a special place for her because of you! She’s lived her life for you, but what have you ever done for her?”
Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 520-Jasper’s soul felt like it had been torn apart, and his heart twisted with a crushing pain.
What had he ever done for Alyssa? Nothing.
He had never proposed to her and given her anything she deserved as his wife.
He left her behind on their first night of marriage and slept in a separate quarter.
He had never celebrated festivals or anniversaries with her nor bought her any gifts. That year, when she was involved in a car crash with Newton, he did not even rush to her side promptly.
All of these terrible actions paled in comparison to the fact that he had been in love with another woman, squandering Alyssa’s best years and making a mockery of her love.
His eyes welled up with emotion. He tightly clasped her hand, pressing it against his chest while breathing heavily.
He felt remorseful for his past actions, but it was too little, too late.
Like Jonah, Liam understood the depth of Alyssa’s suffering over the years. The thought of it broke his heart every time.
He began, “Jasper, Lyse has given up too much for you. Did you know that she almost lost her life because of you? To go after you, she-” “Liam Taylor, that’s enough!” Jonah interrupted him firmly, his brows furrowed.
Liam bit back his words but clenched his fists in frustration. Oh, how he wished he could punch Jasper in the face!
Still, he wasn’t as rash as Axel. After years of holding an important position in the military, his temper had mellowed. Now, he was more sensible and calm.
He’d only lose his temper over matters concerning Lyse.
“What did that mean?” Jasper questioned as he felt a stinging pain.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that Alyssa had been keeping an even bigger secret from him. Doubts gnawed at him. “You mentioned she nearly lost her life for me. When did this happen? Tell me!” “Mr. Beckett,” said Jonah with a grave expression. “The grudges between you and Lyse are in the past. We won’t look into it if she doesn’t want to bring it up.
It’s time to put an end to your conflict with her and move on.
“However, if you continue intruding on her life from now on, I will not hesitate to act on you.” +15 BONUS Hearing that, Liam added, “Stay out of her life if you want to honor your past relationship with her. You’ve already caused her enough pain. Do you really want to ruin the rest of her life?
You do not deserve to be with her after casting her aside like trash.” Alyssa was rushed to the hospital by Jonah and Liam. Jonah kept the news under wraps and discreetly arranged for a helicopter from Leichtown. Winston remained unaware of what had happened to his daughter.
Had he known about Alyssa’s precarious situation, he would have gone on a rampage in Solana City.
