Ch. 631..640

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 631-Zoe was terrorized by Landon’s wrath. She had witnessed him teaching Donna and Gary a lesson. He hadn’t even spared Gary, who had been serving him for years. The punishment he had inflicted on Gary seemed almost fatal.

All of this chaos was because of Lauren. Zoe couldn’t fathom why Landon would go to such lengths for an idiot. In comparison, she felt that she had been reduced to a joke as his sister.

After leaving the villa, she returned to the Harper Residence with a resentful scowl. Throughout the journey, she couldn’t hold back her tears when she reminisced about how Landon had used to spoil her.

Amidst her anger, Zoe made a resolute decision. No matter what, she was determined to come between Landon and Lauren. She would never accept Lauren as her sister-in-law.

“Zoe, you’re finally home!” Penelope called out. She teared up after a long separation from her daughter and came out to hug Zoe.

“My darling. I thought your flight had landed earlier. Why are you only home now? I was so worried.” “Mom…” Zoe teared up at the sight of her mom and the injustice that had befallen her.

“What’s wrong, my dear? You look upset. Did someone bully you?” Penelope inquired “Where’s your brother? Did he pick you up? Why didn’t he come home with you?” Zoe stared at her feet and shook her head pitifully.

Penelope grumbled, “What’s gotten into Landon? He’s always pampered you, but he was ready to send you to Yoarkley over that Beckett girl incident.

“And now, when you’ve finally come home, he couldn’t even be bothered to pick you up from the airport at night! I just don’t understand him.” Then, she caressed Zoe’s chilly cheek with concern. “Landon hasn’t been home in the past few days. I know he’s busy, and he’s always done things his way.

“But in the past, he never disappeared without a trace, no matter how busy he was. Now, he doesn’t come home and doesn’t seem to care about his sister. I wonder what’s going on in his mind.” Zoe blurted out, “I know why he’s not home.” “What? You know?” Penelope exclaimed in surprise.

Zoe clenched her fist, her voice growing somber. “Mom, I’ll tell you something, but promise me you’ll stay “What’s wrong? Please don’t give me a heart attack.” “Landon is dating Sophia’s youngest daughter now,” Zoe stated through gritted teeth.

“Who? Sophia Kirkman? The youngest daughter of that bitch? Penelope gasped, her jaw dropping.

“Yes, he’s dating Betty’s sister, Sophia’s daughter!” Zoe confirmed and grabbed Penelope’s arm.

She complained, “Mom, what’s he thinking? Sophia and Betty caused a scene at our place, slandered me, and even wanted to send me to jail!

“All of this happened recently, and yet, Landon ended up dating Lauren. How can he do that to me? Doesn’t he care about me anymore?” Penelope felt uneasy upon hearing the news, even though the Becketts were a prestigious family and Jasper was Landon’s best friend. After all, Landon was a proud and accomplished man.

Nevertheless, she tried to comfort Zoe. “I don’t like Sophia’s daughter either, but you know your brother. He’s a ladies’ man, and he’s been involved with more than half the young women in Solana City. However, he’s never brought any of them home. Most of the time, he’s not genuinely interested.

“It’s possible he’s taken an interest in Jasper’s sister because he spends so much time with Jasper. I believe he’ll grow bored of her soon, just like he has with others in the past- “No, Mom! It’s different this time!”

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 632-Zoe’s eyes burned with anger, and she trembled as she shared, “Landon hasn’t been around for a long time because he’s living with Lauren Beckett! He’s even bought a place for her!” Penelope felt like a bolt of lightning had struck her, and her face paled.

“I hate Sophia and Betty, and I wouldn’t want Lauren as my future sister-in-law.

But London is Infatuated. with her! He raised his voiceát me for that woman, and he even- Zoe deliberately paused for suspense.

“What else did he do to you?” “He hit me!” Zoe said, tears rolling down like a waterfall.

“Where did he hit you?” “My face! He slapped me in front of his staff and that Beckett bitch! Mom, my face hurts!” Zoe moaned.

and reached for a hug as she cried her heart out.

Penelope’s heart ached for her beloved daughter. Her eldest son, who had always been obedient, had had the audacity to fight with his sister over Sophia’s daughter She couldn’t help but wonder if Landon might one day sever ties with her, his own mother, as well, “Mom, you need to put a stop to Landon and Lauren’s relationship. If he marries her for real, it’ll bring disgrace to our family! Landon will be a laughingstock in Harper Group,” Zoe choked out with urgency.

“W-What do you mean?” Penelope sounded perplexed.

“Lauren Beckett is mentally challenged! She’s an autistic patient!” Upon hearing this, Penelope felt her world spin. She believed Landon was good enough for even Alyssal and couldn’t fathom him marrying an autistic woman.

She would never agree to it!

“Mom, Lauren might be a Beckett, but I’m concerned that her offspring might be autistic as well! Who knows if it’s hereditary?” Zoe cautioned.

Zoe’s words struck a nerve with Penelope. She declared, “Zoe, thank you for sharing this with me. I know.

what needs to be done now.” Penelope’s warm gaze had turned icy as she vowed, “Don’t worry. I will take care of both of you. I won’t allow Landon to jeopardize his future with someone like Lauren Beckett.” Snuggled against Penelope, Zoe broke out into an evil grin upon hearing those words.

Time flew by, and it was soon the day of Lyla and Sophia’s birthday event.

Due to Javier’s disapproval, Sophia hadn’t publicized her birthday party extensively. However, she had distributed invitations to the esteemed members of Solana City’s high society and quietly spread the word through other means.

Although her reputation in the city had taken a hit, she remained confident that her celebration would be merrier than Lyla’s, given her title and status as Mrs.

Beckett.

Conversely, the Taylors had also refrained from publicizing Lyla’s birthday party.

They had been planning.

for it quietly.

Lyla wasn’t a celebrity anymore-she didn’t need the publicity for the clicks and attention.

The night before the birthday party, Lyla found herself blindfolded and guided into a room by Mandy, Colene, and Alyssa.

With a curi a curious smile, she pondered, “What’s the surprise?” Alyssa began the countdown. “Three, two, one!” Then, she removed Lyla’s blindfold.

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 633-Lyla took a few seconds to get used to the bright light before her eyes widened in shock.

A mannequin stood before her, dressed in a grand yet elegant red and black gown, its flowing train blooming like that of a dark rose.

“It. It’s beautiful,” Lyla exclaimed, dazed.

“Lyse had that internationally-renowned designer, Sharon, make this just for you, Lyla!” Mandy cooed, holding onto Lyla’s shoulders.

“My goodness, and here I thought I had seen it all. I still feel like squealing in joy seeing Sharon’s design before my eyes! It’s absolutely gorgeous!” Alyssa had long been used to the world’s praise for her designs under her alias, Sharon. Still, it couldn’t beat the joy and pride she felt upon hearing praise from her own family.

She silently basked in her joy, grinning.

“Sharon? This is too precious, Lyse!” Lyla cried, holding Alyssa’s hand. Her cheeks were flushed with joy.

and bashfulness.

“You must have put in a lot of money and effort to get this made, right? You really didn’t have to! It must have been really difficult!” “What do you mean difficult? Nothing’s too difficult for Alyssa Taylor, daughter of Winston Taylor of Belbanks. Sharon wouldn’t dare refuse a personal request from me, hehe!” Alyssa said cheerfully.

“Wow! Could you get her to make me something too? I want an outfit for bikinglike a leather jacket!” Colene cried excitedly.

“I’ve been so into bikes lately, I even joined Belbanks’ Bikers’ Club. They have monthly events that I’ve been attending, but I still don’t have a proper outfit for them yet. Could you get Sharon to make something like that for me? I’ll pay you!” Alyssa and Lyla were left speechless.

Sensing how off the atmosphere had become, Colene quickly cleared her throat. “Ahem… I don’t think Sharon really makes anything inspired by this industry, so just pretend I never said anything.” Damn it, she was nearly 40 years old now. When would she grow up?

“Don’t worry, Colene, and Mandy. I’ll be sure to ask Sharon to make something for you two when it’s time every “Oh? Isn’t Sharon rumored to be very stoic and hard to persuade? How could you possibly make her complete more requests after this?” Mandy asked curiously.

Then, she narrowed her eyes. “You… you’re not Sharon, are you, Lyse?” Both Lyla and Co Lyla and Colene turned to look at Alyssa at the same time.

“Uh, of course not!” Alyssa quickly waved the idea away, laughing awkwardly.

“I’m already Alexa; I can’t be Sharon too. I’m capable, but not that capable.” Lyla, Mandy, and Colene said at the same time, “Yes, you are!*

Okay, fine. Maybe.

“Wait! There’s something else too!” Alyssa called, running behind the mannequin to retrieve a red velvet.

box before giving it to Lyla.

“I might be busy tomorrow, so I’ll give you this beforehand first. Happy birthday!” Tears of gratitude welled in Lyla’s eyes. She slowly opened the box, revealing a delicately carved aquamarine ring of magnificent craftsmanship.

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 634-it was as if the sea itself had been crystallized into a single piece of jewelry.

“Thank you, Lyse…” Lyla croaked out tearfully. “I love it! Thank you so much…” “I didn’t want to use a more precious stone, lest Winston’s gift pale in comparison, and I thought a lighter shade of crystal like this one was far more suitable for you.” Alyssa beamed at her.

“I enjoy crafting my designs according to the wearer’s personality and aura. The fact that I designed it makes it exceed in value far more than the value of the crystal itself.” Mandy and Colene then led Lyla to unveil the presents they had gotten for her.

When Alyssa’s phone began ringing, she stepped out into the hallway to check on it.

“Hello?” She answered in a flat tone..

“I called to report my status to you, Ms. Alyssa. I’m feeling much better now.” Jasper’s voice was especially tender tonight and irresistibly sensual.

“Next time you would like to know how I’m doing, please don’t hesitate to call me instead of going through Xavier.” Alyssa gnawed on her lip, her heart skipping a beat.

“Or I could call you. You know I wouldn’t pass up any chance to do so.” Jasper’s eagerness was in stark contrast to how cold Alyssa knew him to be.

“There’s no need. I’m not your primary care doctor, and I don’t have the time to keep an eye on your condition 24/7.” Alyssa made her voice was cold. “I’m glad you’re fine. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen again so we can stay out of one another’s hair.” “Thank you for taking care of me before. My fever wouldn’t have gone away that fast if you hadn’t,” Jasper said gratefully.

Then, he said, “You’re much better than any other cure I’ve tried.” “Do you want me to cut your tongue out, Jasper Beckett?” Alyssa’s cheeks flushed as she punched the window beside her, recalling how he had pressed her into the bed and kissed her days ago.

“If you try anything funny again, I swear I’ll make you regret it!” “I don’t think I have anymore regrets to have, Lyse. Jasper chuckled bitterly.

“I don’t think I could ever move on from how much I regret divorcing you.” “Good. Now hang up. I’m busy.” “Wait, Lyse.” “What?” Alyssa cried, irritated to no end.

“Can I … attend Ms. Lyla’s birthday party tomorrow night? Please?” Jasper asked cautiously, his voice filled with hope. Hope that he would be able to see her again.

Alyssa scowled. “Lyla’s birthday celebration will only be open to close friends and family, Mr. Beckett.

Aren’t you being a little too presumptuous?” “I understand that; I do. But they do say it’s best to pay your in-laws a visit every now and then,” Jasper replied in a serious tone.

“Did you get that stick pulled out of your ass recently or what?” Alyssa groaned, punching the window again, imagining it was Jasper’s head.

“Please, Lyse?” he asked again.

Alyssa recalled how Javier had beaten Jasper to shit the other night and how much blood the latter had lost from it. Biting her lip, she grumbled, “Remember to bring a present.” Jasper’s voice was immediately colored with joy. “Of course! It makes no sense to visit your in-laws empty -handed.” “Screw off!” Alyssa cussed

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 635-Both Lyla and Sophia’s birthdays happened to be on the same weekend.

Sophia was so excited the night before that she barely got any sleep. All she could think of was how stunning she would be during her birthday celebration, with all eyes on her.

She had even had photo reels of her from her glory days as an actress made, which would be played on loop onstage during the celebration for everyone to admire.

Sophia ended up looking like the undead the next morning, with sunken hair, bloodshot eyes, and eyebags so dark and heavy that it looked like she had prosthetics on. Makeup was sorely needed, lest she looked like some ravenous ghoul.

She was nearly 50 years old, after all. Unlike in her youth, when she would spend days shooting continuously, one sleepless night was enough to make all her wrinkles stand out in the spotlight.

“What are you waiting for? Hurry up and get my makeup artist!” she roared, pacing back and forth in her room. She even shattered an expensive crystal glass out of sheer anger, like someone having a manic episode.

Naturally, Javier was oblivious to all this. Meanwhile, all the maids had run off to get the makeup artist.

Sophia stared at herself in the mirror, anger boiling in her gut like a witch’s cauldron.

She was celebrating her birthday tonight, right on Lyla’s birthday.

It had been years since Sophia had seen Lyla in person. She was proud, thinking she was in a far better position than Lyla, being Javier Beckett’s wife and all that. But she still felt terrified whenever she recalled how Lyla had been the star of TS Network in their youth.

Sophia was deeply afraid she wouldn’t be able to best Lyla.

“Mom!” Betty ran into the room, yelling, “Mom!” However, Betty was left stunned by how horrifying Sophia looked.

“What are you yelling for?” Sophia huffed.

“I-I just called Grandpa earlier to ask him, and… he still said he won’t be attending your birthday celebration tonight… “What’s so alarming about that? I never expected that old buffoon to show up in the first place. My night.

just might have turned for the worse if he did!’ Sophia snorted, not hiding her disdain for Newton in front “But… but Grandpa also wanted me to tell you…” Betty stammered over her words.

“He’ll be attending the celebration at the Taylor family’s, like Jasper…” “What?” Sophia shrieked, her eyes bugging out in rage.

“He said Mr. Taylor and Alyssa had both called him last night and that they had a really enjoyable conversation. So he decided to go spend some time with Mr.

Taylor at the very last minute.” “Damn that old fool!” Sophia fumed, steam nearly blowing out of her ears. With one mighty sweep of her arm, she sent everything on the makeup table clattering onto the floor.

“How can this stand, Mom? Jasper and Grandpa are clearly humiliating you by attending an outsider’s party instead of yours. It would be terrible if the public got word of this!” Betty cried.

She used this as an opportunity to get back at Sophia after the latter had supported Lauren getting together with Landon.

“They never respected you as the matriarch of this family and think it’s embarrassing to attend your party!” “That’s enough from you!” Sophia shouted, her blood pressure rising dramatically.

“What do we do now?” Although Betty sounded concerned, she was secretly cackling with glee.

“Leave it be! That old fool is clearly angering me on purpose! If I get upset now and ruin my own birthday celebration, they would laugh their heads off!” Sophia fumed and sat down on the couch. “No matter what, that old man’s already retired. Everything that belongs to him will go to Javier in the end, so I don’t give a damn what happens to him now.

“It’s not like he’ll outlive me!” At 6:00 pm sharp, several sleek, black cars lined up outside the house. Javier, Sophia, and their two daughters sat in the middle car while bodyguards filled the rest, protecting them as the cars drove to Berenike Hotel, (2)

Javier gazed outside the window during the ride, his attitude toward Sophia as warm as usual, given that it was her birthday.

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 636-Still, one couldn’t help but find him to be much less enthusiastic than before.

Lauren and Betty sat in front of their parents, with Lauren hunched tight around the teddy bear Alyssa had given her so as to comfort herself.

Betty wore a cocktail dress that had just been released to the market recently, looking quite the model big sister beside Lauren.

“Tonight is Mom’s big day, Lauren. Why didn’t you put on any makeup?” Betty asked, a faux grin on her face as she gently caressed Lauren’s long, sleek hair.

“Do you not know how to? You should have told me earlier. I would have loved to help.” Lauren tensed up instantly, her lips pressing tightly together.

“That perm I gave you before was such a good look on you. I could have given you one today, too,” Betty snickered.

All of a sudden, Lauren slapped Betty’s hand away.

Both Sophia and Javier were shocked by this. They had never seen their youngest daughter behave like.

this.

“Ow! What was that for, Lauren? It hurts!” Betty cried, acting like she was the victim.

וי … never wanted you to do my makeovers. You were the one who forced me every time!” Lauren tv bear exclaimed, glaring at Betty as she held tightly onto her teddy Javier narrowed his eyes inquisitively, glancing at Betty.

“What… What did you say?” Betty asked, astonished.

“And I hate that perm you gave me… I hate it so much! Can you not do that to me anymore?” Lauren gritted out, her voice laced with hatred.

“What is your sister talking about, Betty?” Javier asked sternly.

“Dad, you know how Lauren is! She says nonsensical things out of the blue sometimes. I don’t really know what she’s talking about either. Betty said sheepishly, playing dumb.

Sophia quickly changed the subject, holding Javier’s arm. “Javier, is … is Jasper really going to the Taylor family’s celebration and not to ours?” “I’m not sure.” “I don’t mean anything else, just that it might be for the best if he shows up.” Sophia said, playing the gracious card.

“It would make more sense for Jasper to attend Mandy Lovelace’s birthday, given that it would help our family if we had good relations with hers.

“But this is just Lyla Nelson’s birthday, who doesn’t even come from anywhere influential. I heard she had embarrassed herself in the entertainment industry when she was in her youth, too.

“Who knows what nonsense the media is going to write if they find out Jasper is attending her birthday celebration?” Sophia’s gaze darkened as she continued, “Plus, Lyla is the least noteworthy wife Winston Taylor has. In fact, she’s no more than a concubine. I don’t think someone like her is worth the attention of Beckett Group’s CEO. What do you think?” For some reason, the term “concubine” made Javier deeply comfortable, even making him reminisce.

about Jasper’s birth mother.

“Lyla didn’t have any support back then, but now she has Winston Taylor. That means she’s no longer as helpless and lowly.

“If it hadn’t been for what had happened in her youth, she would have made it to far greater heights in the industry too and not have ended up being Winston’s third wife, Javier commented.

Sophia bit back her shock, then asked gently. “Did I misspeak, Javier?” “I heard Dad is going to attend the party too, to catch up with Winston, Javier continued, his tone neutral, “It’s not like Lyla is the only person worth paying a visit to tonight. Did you forget how important Winston Taylor himself is? Just let the old man and his grandson go on their way. I’m too tired to bother with all this,” Javier concluded.

What was going on? Sophia was baffled. Why had Javier’s attitude shifted so drastically?

She chuckled awkwardly, unable to say much else.

Meanwhile, Lauren had found a cozy position to curl up in and was currently dozing off. She had been spending her days and nights with Landon before, after all, and hadn’t had good sleep given how often he wanted to kiss or cuddle with her.

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 637-Betty was silently trembling with rage beside Lauren, her lips twitching. She wanted nothing more than to tear at Lauren’s face right now.

This fucking bitch! Did she really think that she could do as she pleased just because Landon was protecting her?

Betty thought menacingly, “I going to kill you if it’s the last thing I do!” Though Sophia had insisted on a low-profile celebration, she had still allowed the media to get word of it.

After all, she needed it like a fish needed water.

The reporters were pa were pacing around the hotel prior to Sophia’s arrival. They quickly surrounded her when she arrived, though she remained behind a circle of bodyguards as she walked into the hotel, looking like some kind of big shot.

“Mrs. Beckett!” “Madam Sophia!” The reporters cried, snapping all the photos they could get of her and her family.

Javier was displeased with this turn of events but remained indifferent before the reporters.

“Your family has arrived for your wife’s birthday celebration, Mr. Javier, but why isn’t Mr. Jasper here?” A reporter asked.

After all, it would be unbecoming of a reporter not to get a little nosy.

“Jasper’s occupied, so he had to skip tonight’s event,” Javier replied lightly, nodding at the reporter.

“Madam Sophia, your birthday supposedly falls on Wednesday instead of tonight, yet you’re only celebrating it tonight. Could it have something to do with tonight being KS Group’s President, Winston Taylor’s third wife, Lyla’s birthday?

“Did you plan you plan to celebrate your birthday on the same night as hers? You two were once TS Network’s star actresses and were rivals. Is this rivalry still going on today?” a reporter questioned.

“Oh? I didn’t know it was Lyla’s birthday tonight until you told me!” Sophia put on a look of surprise, her diamond ring glittering as she covered her mouth.

“I must remember to wish her a happy birthday and a cheerful year ahead. But no, I chose today She was all smiles. “We have many, many quests tonight, after all, so I had to consider their schedules when planning tonight’s celebration.” “Did you say ‘guests?” the reporter asked.

They shot looks at one another before someone asked, “We’ve been standing here for two hours but didn’t see anyone arrive Sophia’s heart leapt into her throat.

That couldn’t be! She had clearly invited over a hundred quests two weeks ago, and most of them had agreed to attend!

Had they not come?

Sophia forced another smile, though she was as tense as a pulled howstring right now.

“Why don’t we head inside first? Javier urged quietly.

They walked to the hotel’s entrance, where two of the staff opened the grand doors for them.

The moment they did, both Javier and Sophia’s expressions froze on their faces. Sophia’s face turned white as a sheet. She had to bite her lip to keep from screaming out.

There were less than a handful of quests in the large, spacious ballroom! Her fantasy of a hall filled with women in flowing gowns and men in crisp suits was gone just like that!

Where was everyone?

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 638-The ballroom was a pitiful sight with how empty it was. The few men who had attended were Javier’s business partners instead of anyone Sophia knew.

The only women in the room besides Sophia and her daughters were the hotel staff and the pianist they hired! All the rich men’s wives and mistresses who appeared to be on good terms with Sophia were nowhere to be found!

Damn it! Damn it to hell!

If the reporters hadn’t been present right now, Sophia would have thrown a tantrum right then and there.

Javier’s brows furrowed just the slightest, but besides that, he didn’t show much emotion.

Meanwhile, Betty was shocked. She had known how bad her mother’s relationships in their social circle were, but not to this extent!

“Hurry up up and take those photos! This is going to make the headlines!” a reporter cried, followed by frantic snapshots of the virtually empty ballroom.

“We can title this ‘Madam Sophia Beckett’s Birthday Bash-Truly Bashed! No Longer the Starlet of Yesterday’!” “This is hilarious! She was even bragging about how many guests she had invited earlier!” Sophia was quaking angrily under her dress. She glared at Betty, signaling for her to help kick the reporters out.

Betty hurriedly went up to the reporters with a courteous smile, saying, “My mother’s birthday celebration is about to begin, so we’ll be heading on inside to tend to the guests now. Please have a safe journey home, and be sure to get your door gifts outside!” The bodyguards quickly shoved the reporters outside the hotel.

Some of them scowled and gossiped amongst themselves after getting their door gifts, saying, “To think we trudged all the way here in the snow just to be kicked out. They clearly don’t want to be caught being embarrassed!” “Tending to guests, my ass! More like ghosts!” Though Sophia’s celebration had just begun, it was so quiet and boring that it felt like it was ending.

Sophia was so angry that not even her makeup could contain the rigid expression on her face anymore.

The guests present were all Javier’s friends, so they ignored her right after giving her their well wishes, chatting a storm up with Javier instead. Just like that, the supposed star of the night was kicked to the side How could this… How could this happen?

“Mom! Betty hurried over, her face pale with worry. “Look what I found out! All the quests you invited to your party tonight are all at KS World Hotel right now!

Alyssa’s gotten the better of us again!” Sophia had guessed as much earlier, but the feeling was incomparable to actually hearing it as truth.

*Alyssa Taylor Taylor… That selfish little demoness again?” She seethed, boiling with fury.

Beside them, Lauren turned to gaze at her sister and mother upon hearing the mention of Alyssa. Her eyes were clouded with complex emotions.

“Half of the guests are there for the Taylor family, and the rest are for the Schmidt familly. I heard most of the Schmidt family’s friends are at Lyla’s birthday party right now, too! They want to kiss both of those families’ asses while the iron’s hot, after all!” Betty exclaimed.

She added, “I even heard that some of the guests weren’t on the Taylor family’s list at first, but for some reason, they received an invitation from Alyssa yesterday.

“So they decided to attend that celebration at the very last minute! Alyssa was the one behind all this!” “When will that bitch stop messing with me? Does she think she can best me just by ruining my birthday party? Who does she think I am?” Sophia shrieked, her face twisting into ugly hatred.

“Don’t call my sister-in-law that! She’s not a bitch!” Lauren finally cried angrily.

Sophia glared at her. “Shut the hell up! She’s not your sister-in-law!” “Do you have any idea what you’re saying, Lauren?” Betty cried, taking advantage of the situation to storm.

up to Lauren and jab her in the cheek.

Her nail pierced Lauren’s skin, making Lauren wince and shrink back

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 639-ust like that, a red crescent appeared on Lauren’s cheek.

“Mom is already so angry because of that bitch Alyssa’s meddling! Why must you still come to her defense? You’re already useless as it is!” Betty shrieked.

*Alyssa isn’t a bitch!” Lauren grew angrier, meeting Betty’s yells.

“Then who is?” Betty roared, making the guests shoot her inquisitive looks.

“Not her!” Lauren cried, standing up to glare right into Betty’s eyes, which were now shocked.

Lauren could tolerate Betty scolding her and hurting her, but she wouldn’t let her humiliation of Alyssa stand!

“How dare you conniving little beast yell at me? You think you’re so powerful now that Landon has your back, do you?” Betty yelled, reaching out to grab Lauren’s arm. She’d had enough of Lauren’s jabs tonight.

Just then, the ballroom doors opened.

All eyes turned as a man walked in steadily.

“L-Landon…” Lauren murmured, her eyes tearing up as she called out to him.

Landon met her gaze, his own fervent with passion and tenderness. He didn’t want to look away.

Even if she was dressed plainly or if she made herself smaller than everyone else, he would still be able to find her at first glance.

“Mr. H-Harper?” Sophia and Betty were shocked.

Javier, who had just been speaking to his friends, was just as surprised to find Landon striding into the ballroom clad in a wine-colored suit.

Betty quickly retracted her hand, her eyes complex as she gazed at Landon.

Even if he had tortured her and pained her for so long, she still couldn’t help but get hopelessly infatuated with him whenever she saw him. All she wanted was to die in his arms.

Yet she knew Landon had no eyes for her whatsoever, not even if she stripped naked before him.

So what was he doing here?

Could it be because of “I’m so glad you could come here tonight, Mr. Harper. We’ve been waiting for you!” Sophia exclaimed.

Then, she hurriedly called out, “Hurry up and get Mr. Harper some champagne!” It didn’t matter that he was here for Lauren. What mattered was that his arrival would add some life to her celebration.

“No, thank you. I’m not here for the birthday celebration,” Landon said lightly, hands in his pockets.

“Then, what are you here f- “I’m here to take my woman way.” Landon’s words were filled with tender love and affection as they rang throughout the ballroom. Under everyone’s gaze, he slowly walked up to Lauren.

Both Sophia and Betty looked like they had just tasted bitter lemons.

Lauren blushed slightly, watching Landon walk up to her like she was a bride at the altar.

Landon even shoved Betty away when he came up close to Lauren.

Can’t Win Me Back Chapter 640-“Ow!” Betty winced, nearly falling backward.

“Lauren.” Landon stood before Lauren, gazing lovingly at her as she blushed.

“You look beautiful tonight.” “Huh?” Lauren mumbled, her heart pounding in her chest.

“It’s so boring here. Do you want to go somewhere with me?” Landon extended his hand to her.

“Go where?” “Wherever you want. Just name it, and I’ll take you there.” Sincerity filled Landon’s eyes.

For some reason, Lauren wanted to cry.

She had always been the slowest yet most obedient child in her family. She never learned what it was like to be doted on or have what she wanted fulfilled. This was a first for her.

“I… I want to find Alyssa and my brother,” she mumbled, her voice small.

“Alright. I’ll take you to them.” Landon held her hand and turned to leave with her.

The hall was dead silent.

When the two reached the entrance, Landon stopped in his tracks suddenly, nearly making Lauren slam right into his back.

He turned around and nodded respectfully to Javier before leaving with Lauren.

This made Javier’s eyes widen.

He had been annoyed with how rude Landon was, taking his daughter away like that, yet Landon had just paid his due respects to him. With that, Javier couldn’t help but grow fonder of Landon.

“What do we do, Mom? What do we do?” Betty cried, holding onto her mother’s arm.

“How could Landon just take her away like that? Isn’t he intentionally provoking you now? You can’t let Lauren leave with him! Get him to come back!” “Get him to come back? Why would I do that?” Sophia flung her daughter’s hand away, her eyes laced with a disdain that used to only be meant for Lauren.

“My birthday party is already ruined. What does it matter whether your sister is here or not?

1/2 +15 BONUS “Plus, why would I want her to come back? Can’t you see how devoted Landon is to her? He looks at her just the way your father used to look at me. So you better give up all those silly ideas of yours and stay out of your sister’s way!” Betty’s heart sank into a dark abyss. She gritted her teeth in anger.

Sophia downed a glass of champagne, growling. “Do you think I’m just going to give up. Alyssa Taylor? I’m not going to let you ruin my night any further!” Outside the ballroom, Betty walked to a less-crowded area before calling Zoe. It only went through after several rings.

“Hmph. You got some balls for calling me,” Zoe said over the phone, her voice laced with irritation.

Though Betty hated Zoe for having used her before, the saying that her enemy’s enemy was her friend couldn’t be more applicable now. Betty needed Zoe’s help to deal with Lauren once and for all.

So she composed herself and said sternly, “I’m not in the mood to argue. I bet you’ll feel the same way after you hear about what happened earlier tonight.”
