Chapter 861: Not Everyone Can Taste It_1
It was quite nice that Adrian Zhekova remembered that.
Jenny Kirk quickly said, “It’s me who forgot to make an appointment.”
“But I was thinking, this is related to Pingla.” Jenny said, “It’s about work, pretty important. You should be able to make an exception for me.”
“Didn’t expect it to be so strict in Pingla.” Jenny lowered her head slightly, “but it’s my fault, I didn’t make an appointment.”
“So, I decided to wait here until you came out,” Jenny explained.
Adrian gave a noncommittal expression.
...
He didn’t say anything and showed no emotion, simply pressed the elevator to go downstairs.
Jenny followed Adrian closely, entering the elevator he uses exclusively.
Adrian cast a deep glance at her.
About to ask her to leave.
However, Jenny turned out to be quite self-aware.
As if anticipating Adrian driving her away, Jenny swiftly pressed the elevator close button and quickly selected the first floor.
“You are going downstairs, aren’t you, Adrian?” Jenny asked him with a smile.
Adrian sneered lightly, “Yes.”
“You’re going out to eat? Should we go together?” Jenny continued, “Actually, I want to talk to you about the International Culinary Competition.”
“Unfortunately, my wife is coming to have lunch with me,” Adrian replied indifferently.
“Do you mind if I join you, then?” Jenny asked.
The mocking expression on Adrian’s face disappeared as he finally glanced straight at Jenny.
It’s been a long time since he met someone this shameless.
Even though the only other one was his son, Morgan.
Although the little one was cheeky too, at least he was quite adorable.
But Jenny was far from adorable.
Her audacity was irksome.
Adrian simply said coldly: “My wife is delivering the meal she made with her own hands to me.”
Jenny paused, hiding her disdain.
Picturing in her head how Cindy could be so subservient.
Believing that Adrian was above packing lunch every day.
As if there were no restaurants near Pingla.
“Given the number of restaurants near the company, does your wife need to deliver meals?” It’s not as if they’re lowly employees who need to scrimp and save by bringing their own lunch.
Won’t Adrian become the laughingstock due to Cindy’s ridiculous actions?
Laughable!
Adrian sneered again, then said: “I think you should know that my wife is a wonderful chef, her cooking is exceptional.”
“After tasting her cuisine, no dish from the local restaurants appealed to me anymore. So, I asked her to make the extra effort and deliver lunch to me every day.”
“It’s due to my stubborn tastes. She spoiled me with her cooking, and now I don’t like anything else unless I absolutely have to,” Adrian went on.
“It’s indeed quite hard on her, but she still hustles back and forth every day just to make sure I enjoy my meal,” Adrian added.
Jenny figured that as a representative of the International Culinary Competition, due to her work, she had tried numerous culinary delicacies from various renowned chefs.
Especially the International Culinary Association, which is made up of world-renowned chefs.
The International Culinary Competition is organized under their leadership.
The organizers include famous international chefs.
Each of them owns several, if not dozens of, renowned restaurants.
In such an environment, she didn’t believe Cindy’s cuisine could surpass theirs.
Especially the Sushi Master, whose restaurant always had a long queue for a spot.
She had been there, too.
Let alone that most of these master chefs rarely made dishes themselves.
They usually just give their instructions to their underlings.
Only a few privileged guests would be granted their personal culinary skills.
And Jenny had tasted dishes that most people wouldn’t be able to even if they visited their restaurant.
She doubted that Cindy’s cooking could surpass all of that.
Judging by how Adrian praised Cindy, it didn’t seem credible.
Jenny didn’t take him seriously and shrugged off her disdain, then said: “I see, that’s quite special indeed.”
“I did see Cindy standing out in the Cooking Competition held here in Pingla,” Jenny said, “Will I be lucky enough to have a taste today?”
Jenny thought, since she came all the way, couldn’t they allow her a taste?
Plus, this would give her a chance to gauge Cindy’s skill.
“It’s only enough for two people.” When Adrian mentioned Cindy, a soft expression came over his face, and his rigid outline softened. Even his lips curved upwards.
“She comes to have lunch with me every day,” Adrian said.
“When she’s not with me, I don’t enjoy eating on my own. But when she’s there, I always eat remarkably well, my appetite is better,” said Adrian.
“So, sorry, there’s no extra for you,” Adrian said bluntly.
Jenny: “…”
Ordinarily, shouldn’t he give his meal up for her as the guest, even if it wasn’t enough?
He just said straight-up there was no share for her!
“Then next time… if there’s a chance, could she make an extra portion for me?” Jenny asked again.
This time, Adrian was laughing openly: “My wife’s cuisine is not meant to be tasted by just anyone.”
Chapter 862: Take Advantage of This Opportunity to Get a Leg up_1 Jenny Kirk: “…”
She is not just any random person!
Did Adrian Zhekova forget that she is the representative dispatched by the organizer of the International Culinary Competition?!
Which means all the matters aquà are hers to decide!
Adrian Zhekova just stopped short of directly saying – he doesn’t welcome her today!
“Seems like you’re not at all curious about why I came to see you today?” Jenny Kirk spoke out again.
Adrian Zhekova gave her a cold glance, “Oh, there’s a reason?”
Previously, he was indeed perplexed.
Why would the representative of the organizer of the International Culinary Competition behave so uncouthly?
...
But now that he knows the representative is Jenny Kirk.
Adrian Zhekova did not feel surprised anymore.
Jenny Kirk handed a business card to Adrian Zhekova, “Here’s my business card.”
Adrian Zhekova took it and held it between his fingertips.
He had a glance on it, “Are you the local representative of the International Culinary Competition?”
“Exactly.” Jenny Kirk smiled, with a hint of pride.
“This time I came to discuss about the International Culinary Competition.” Jenny Kirk explained.
“I know, domestically, Pingla is the leader, holding over half of Hearth Nation’s market,” Jenny Kirk continued, “Even in this international competition, Pingla definitely wants to secure as many spots as possible.”
“Furthermore, Pingla Academy, and many restaurants under Pingla, have many chefs who meet the requirements.”
“So, I came to Pingla as the first choice for possible collaborations,” Jenny Kirk added.
“Collaborate?” Adrian Zhekova raised an eyebrow.
Jenny Kirk continued, “This matter is not yet officially announced by the International Chefs Association, so the Chefs Association of all countries are in the dark.”
“As the representative of Hearth Nation’s region, I am responsible for conveying the intentions of the headquarters, communicating with Hearth Nation’s Chefs Association, and also handling all matters for Hearth Nation’s region.”
Jenny Kirk looked at Adrian Zhekova, “So, the selection for Hearth Nation’s region, including the organization of the competition, advancement, etc., my words will carry much weight.”
As a representative dispatched by the headquarters, the regional organizers of Hearth Nation also have to respect her.
Jenny Kirk had great influence.
Adrian Zhekova originally thought that Jenny Kirk had been studying abroad all these years and didn’t expect it to have any effect on her work.
How did she wedge herself into the International Chefs Association?
Adrian Zhekova didn’t ask Jenny Kirk directly.
In order to avoid this woman thinking that he holds her in high regard.
He decided to have Sheldon Rowland to do a detailed investigation later.
Rather than letting Jenny Kirk tell some half-truths, it’s better to have her background investigated thoroughly.
“The reason I came today, is to inform you that the rules for the International Culinary Competition have changed this year and it’s different from previous ones,” Jenny Kirk explained, “I am the first to tell you about it, others still don’t know yet.”
“Pingla gets the first-hand news.” Jenny Kirk stated with some pride.
Adrian Zhekova raised an eyebrow and responded, “The organizers of the International Culinary Competition indeed sent a rough idea about the new rules to various units before, but they didn’t release the detailed rules yet.”
Jenny Kirk shook her head, “It changed again.”
“Changed again?” Adrian Zhekova was indeed a bit puzzled this time.
Seeing his obvious confusion, Jenny Kirk became even more confidently smug.
“Yes, and the new detailed rules have already been released,” Jenny Kirk explained, “Pingla would have many advantages if it knew about these, way more than the others.”
“I came today mainly to discuss these specific matters with you, so you can prepare in advance,” Jenny Kirk explained.
“Surprisingly I was so ill-timed that without making a reservation, I can’t even meet you,” Jenny Kirk saw that Adrian Zhekova seemed to take this matter seriously.
Jenny Kirk instantly seized the opportunity to push the envelope.
Seeing that Adrian Zhekova seems to be serious about this, he wouldn’t treat her coldly as before.
Because she is of use to him!
Simply put, Jenny Kirk is of value to Adrian Zhekova.
If Adrian Zhekova wants the people from Pingla to achieve good results, he needs to establish a good relationship with her.
If that’s so, then why should she be so polite?
Of course, she should take this opportunity to get Adrian Zhekova to bow down to her and treat her nicer.
Let’s see if he will still drive her out.
She wants to have lunch with Adrian Zhekova, and for him to leave Cindy Clarke behind to accompany her.
Of course, she could only use work as an excuse to get Adrian Zhekova to accompany her for now.
But so long as Adrian Zhekova cares about Pingla’s interests, he has to do this regardless of his reluctance!
In the future, she will find more opportunities to invite Adrian Zhekova out on the pretext of official business.
To get Adrian Zhekova to leave Cindy Clarke behind to meet her.
She didn’t believe that even at the beginning, when Cindy Clarke still has faith in Adrian Zhekova.
But with so many times happening over and over again, she didn’t believe Cindy Clarke would still have so much faith in Adrian Zhekova.
Adrian Zhekova would come out and meet her—a single, beautiful woman with intentions towards Adrian Zhekova—every time she calls.
Adrian Zhekova knows about her intentions.
And so does Cindy Clarke.
But Cindy Clarke knows even better that Adrian Zhekova would still come to see her even though he knows her intentions.
The thorn in Cindy Clarke’s heart would only grow bigger and sharper.
At that time, would Cindy Clarke still trust Adrian Zhekova?
He knowingly comes to see her even though knowing her intentions, if this happened to Jenny Kirk herself, she definitely wouldn’t be able to accept it.
Cindy Clarke’s mistrust of Adrian Zhekova deepens, and misunderstandings between them get worse, leading to greater disputes.
No matter whether it’s Cindy Clarke or Adrian Zhekova, they’ll lose patience and become disappointed in each other.
Jenny Kirk had already figured it all out at this moment.
It all starts from lunch today.
In a moment, she was going to take Adrian Zhekova away from Cindy Clarke’s eyes!
Even if Adrian Zhekova is only using her right now, it doesn’t matter.
As long as she can keep Adrian Zhekova with her, nothing else matters.
Results are what matter most.
And knowing that Cindy Clarke would be frustrated, heartbroken, upset, and grieved about this, gives her joy.
As long as it made Cindy Clarke unhappy, she would be extremely happy.
It’s Cindy Clarke’s fault for marrying Adrian Zhekova!
Such an unworthy girl dares to take someone else’s place.
No wonder everyone’s eying her.
Jenny Kirk wanted to see how long Cindy Clarke can hold onto this position.
If she wants to occupy the position of Adrian Zhekova’s wife, she needs to have the ability to hold onto it!
Since she snatched someone else’s position, she should bear the pressure that comes with that position!
The thing that Jenny Kirk hated most now was that because she was studying abroad, she wasn’t in her home country and a little nobody snatched the position that originally belonged to her.
While Jenny Kirk was speaking with Adrian Zhekova, the elevator quickly arrived at the first floor.
Adrian Zhekova and Jenny Kirk exited the elevator together.
Because it was the lunch break, the colleagues were all about to go to lunch.
So right now, there were quite a lot of people present.
Naturally, everyone saw Jenny Kirk who was walking together with Adrian Zhekova.
Chapter 863: Jenny Kirk is Very Confident_1 Jenny Kirk was young and attractive.
When she walked with a handsome man like Adrian Zhekova, it was easy for people to misconstrue their relationship.
That’s exactly what Jenny wanted—to be linked with Adrian in people’s minds.
Seeing many eyes turning towards her, Jenny held her head high and felt more proud.
However, her pride didn’t last long before she heard a chorus of voices calling out, “CEO’s wife!”
“The CEO’s wife is here!”
“Good afternoon, Mrs.
CEO!”
“We’ve missed Mrs.
CEO during the break!”
Although there was no uniformity in their greetings, the sporadic shouts made it a lively scene.
...
It seemed like Cindy Clarke was extremely popular here.
Jenny’s triumphant look froze on her face.
Were these people really necessary to please Cindy?
As soon as Cindy walked in, she saw Adrian walking with Jenny.
She had only seen Jenny on the surveillance screen at the family mansion before.
But she recognized her immediately today.
Cindy was a bit stunned.
Jenny really didn’t give up, she even followed them to the company.
She wondered what Jenny had said, since Adrian hadn’t dismissed her.
While Cindy was thinking, she was suddenly greeted by many colleagues.
So, Cindy put Jenny aside and greeted her coworkers.
Jenny saw that Cindy didn’t even bother to glance at her, being too busy chatting with her colleagues.
It seemed that Cindy was careful to respond to each person who greeted her.
Nobody was neglected.
It was indeed a short conversation.
Given the sheer number of people, it was impossible to have a lengthy chat with each of them.
Even returning a single greeting to each person made her colleagues feel that Cindy was very easy to get along with.
Moreover, Cindy’s greeting wasn’t just a simple “hello.” She didn’t seem to want to give off a haughty image.
Cindy really made sure to address people by name.
There were many employees in Pingla, and Cindy didn’t remember all of them.
But because she’d had the experience of delivering meals before knowing Adrian,
She recognized many of her female colleagues.
Since being with Adrian, she had been coming in almost every midday.
She encountered many employees daily.
From the first floor to the elevator, there were employees everywhere.
After repeated encounters, she naturally began to remember them.
For those she remembered, like Brenan and Wilbert Evans, Cindy always initiated a greeting.
She didn’t act cold due to her status as the CEO’s wife.
She didn’t put on airs.
How could her colleagues not love Cindy?
They believed that Cindy was kind and approachable.
How many good deeds had the scumbag CEO done in his previous life to marry such a good girl in this life!
Just now, they had seen Jenny walking with Adrian.
Of course, Jenny had misconstrued their stares as them misinterpreting her relationship with Adrian.
But in reality, they hadn’t thought anything of it.
They simply saw Adrian and instinctively looked.
As for Jenny?
They thought she was a client.
Given the CEO’s daily overt display of affection,
He wouldn’t do anything to betray Cindy!
Therefore, the colleagues didn’t misconstrue anything.
It was all in Jenny’s head.
After a lot of effort, Cindy finally finished her rendezvous and walked towards Adrian.
On the way, she inevitably came across a steady stream of colleagues.
And so she went on this way, greeting everyone in her path.
Jenny Kirk was watching everything from the sidelines.
She thought to herself, Cindy Clarke was just flexing around her!
Proclaiming her status here.
Just look at that, the staff are warm towards her, and she seems to know them quite well.
Obviously, she frequents here, almost as if she is the lady of the Sky City.
Unable to help herself, Jenny’s face darkened with annoyance.
Humph!
What on earth was Cindy so proud of?
She didn’t stop to consider herself, as Mrs.
Zhekova, being friendly with ordinary employees!
If put in nicer words, she appeared approachable and down-to-earth.
But in reality, she was embarrassing Adrian Zhekova with her lack of class!
What kind of CEO’s wife behaves like that?
Yet, Cindy seemed quite pleased with herself, intentionally flaunting it in front of her.
What a fool!
Jenny couldn’t help but turn to look at Adrian’s reaction.
Choosing Cindy as his wife was certainly humiliating for him.
What was Adrian thinking?
Jenny couldn’t shake the feeling that Adrian was genuinely settling for less.
Meanwhile, Cindy came over.
Cindy had been reflecting.
When Adrian had called her earlier, he must have been alone.
Otherwise, not even someone as thick-skinned as Adrian would dare to utter such embarrassing words.
Even if it was just to irk Jenny, it wouldn’t have come to that.
At least that’s what Cindy believed.
She just didn’t know when Adrian had run into Jenny.
Cindy greeted Jenny first: “Miss Kirk.”
She didn’t pretend not to know her.
Jenny responded with a polite nod: “Hello.”
She couldn’t bring herself to address Cindy as Mrs.
Zhekova.
After the greetings, Cindy turned to Adrian and asked, “I was already downstairs, what did you come down for?”
Adrian was feeling regretful too.
Had he known, he would have stayed upstairs.
That way, he would’ve avoided Jenny’s clinginess.
Thinking of this, Adrian reminded himself to settle scores with Sheldon Rowland.
Jenny was waiting outside all along, how could Sheldon not have informed him?
Just as Adrian was about to speak, Jenny pre-empted him: “Senior, about the International Culinary Competition you mentioned earlier, we didn’t get to talk detail due to the lack of time.”
Jenny smiled, suggesting, “Why don’t we find a place to sit down, and I can explain everything to you?”
From the corner of her eye, Jenny noticed the food container in Cindy’s hand.
She wanted to pull Adrian away right in front of Cindy.
Didn’t Cindy make lunch specifically for Adrian?
Then she’d just make sure all her efforts were in vain.
And ensure Adrian wouldn’t taste it.
She’ll let Cindy’s good intentions go to waste.
So Cindy could eat her homemade lunch alone, imagining the scene of Adrian dining with another woman.
And let Cindy choke on her agony!
Jenny was confident that Adrian surely wouldn’t refuse her this time.
She had already spilled the beans in the elevator.
But if Adrian wanted to learn more, he’d have to have a proper chat with her.
There was no way Adrian would miss out on something that could greatly benefit Sky City.
And she would only feed Adrian a bit of information at a time.
Leading him on.
Jenny’s smile was exceptionally sweet, showing no worries at all.
“I don’t have time now, maybe some other time.” As for when he would have the time?
And when would ‘some other time’ be?
It was clear he would never have the time, and ‘some other time’ would never come.
Chapter 864: Thick Skinned Divine Technique_1 Jenny Kirk’s smile froze on her face.
Adrian Zhekova actually rejected her!
After she had dangled such important information, such huge benefits.
Adrian Zhekova had actually rejected her!
Is there something wrong with Adrian Zhekova’s mind?!
Jenny Kirk put away her smile, her expression awkward as she spoke, “Senior, you should know that the International Culinary Competition is very important.
...
But when compared to such a large corporation as Pingla, it’s indeed trivial, even seen as insignificant.”
“But if a student from Pingla Academy can make a name internationally, let everyone know about Pingla Culinary Academy, know about the Pingla Group, know about the restaurants under the Pingla banner.
Make Pingla stand on the international stage, gain international recognition.”
“This will be a great opportunity for Pingla.
The seemingly insignificant cooking competition can bring long-term substantial benefits to Pingla.”
“I think, this is why Pingla Group insists on holding the Pingla Culinary Competition domestically every year.” Jenny Kirk said.
“I didn’t deliberately investigate, but as someone working in the relevant field, I must understand these aspects.” Jenny Kirk continued, “The Pingla Culinary Competition has never been profitable.”
“In fact, the Pingla Group has been investing money to hold it.” Jenny Kirk added, “The Pingla Group is ultimately a business that needs to make a profit.
How can they continue doing something that doesn’t bring benefits?”
“It’s precisely because of the yearly Pingla Culinary Competition that the audience knows about the capability of the chefs under Pingla’s banner.”
“As for the cuisine praised during the competition, the audience would also want to taste it and naturally, they would choose to go to the restaurants under the Pingla banner.”
“And also, letting the audience know about the outstanding chefs from Pingla.”
“What Pingla wants to create, is not just excellent chefs, but celebrity chefs.” Jenny Kirk said.
“Senior, am I right?” Jenny Kirk proudly asked.
Her words should impress Adrian Zhekova!
Only someone like her who has a broader perspective and works in the same industry is worthy of Adrian Zhekova.
She shares more common ground with Adrian Zhekova.
And Cindy Clarke, what else does she know other than cooking?
“You make some valid points.” Adrian Zhekova nodded in agreement.
“Don’t you want to know some details about the Cooking Competition?” Jenny Kirk asked, “Many things are not publicized.
If you know the rules in advance, you can prepare early.”
“There are also things that are not disclosed.” Jenny Kirk was very clear.
As long as Adrian Zhekova went with her now.
Whatever Adrian Zhekova wanted to know, she would tell.
Cindy Clarke frowned, now she really despised Jenny Kirk.
But what Jenny Kirk didn’t realize was that her threats would never faze Adrian Zhekova.
How could such a proud man like him be threatened?
Adrian Zhekova would never be willing to be coerced by others.
Jenny Kirk was only overestimating herself.
Moreover, Cindy Clarke had great trust in Adrian Zhekova.
Even if Jenny Kirk acted so disgustingly in front of her, Cindy Clarke was not worried at all.
She simply stood by Adrian Zhekova’s side leisurely and kept smiling, which was sure to irritate Jenny Kirk.
From Jenny Kirk’s perspective, Cindy Clarke was merely stubbornly resisting.
“Then don’t speak.” Adrian Zhekova said, “The Culinary Competition was, to start with, a show of individual skill.”
“We at Pingla follow the competition’s requirements.
This is a matter of course.” Adrian Zhekova stated.
Moreover, Pingla wouldn’t need to resort to Jenny Kirk to establish relations with the International Chefs Association and the organizers of the International Culinary Competition.
The relationship between Pingla and the International Chefs Association is actually quite good.
Chinese cuisine is very popular abroad.
Although most have been modified, many dishes are unheard of domestically.
However, Pingla has opened many Chinese cuisine restaurant chains abroad.
They have also invested in some companies.
Pingla is involved in many aspects.
Some are visible, some are not.
Jenny Kirk knew nothing about this.
Moreover, she didn’t even know about the relationship between Pingla and the International Chefs Association.
This illustrated that she was not all that important within the Association.
As for what Jenny Kirk said.
Adrian Zhekova didn’t have much interest.
If someone is willing to talk, he’ll listen.
Consider it an advantage.
But this advantage is quite small.
If no one speaks, Adrian Zhekova doesn’t mind.
Pingla, a behemoth, wouldn’t be affected by these insignificant pieces of news.
Wasn’t he also unaware of these things before Jenny Kirk appeared?
Adrian Zhekova didn’t feel like he had lost anything.
“If you speak, then I’ll thank you.” Adrian Zhekova said, “If you don’t, I’ll understand.”
Jenny Kirk didn’t expect Adrian Zhekova to refuse.
Isn’t it just a meal?
Is it that unacceptable to him?
“Miss Kirk, there’s no need to see me off.” Adrian Zhekova said indifferently.
However, Jenny Kirk has a thick skin.
She instantly turned on the charms she had displayed outside the family mansion.
She had just threatened Adrian Zhekova, now she showed a proper and gentle smile: “Since you’re not available today, Senior, I’ll come back another day.”
“It really is my fault for coming at an inconvenient time today, I’ll make sure it’s clear next time.” Jenny Kirk said.
Adrian Zhekova neither nodded nor spoke.
She can say whatever she wants.
She will see who the loser is.
“However, since we have this advantage, getting the news could be very convenient.
We are senior and junior, there’s no need to be so formal.” Jenny Kirk added.
“In other aspects, I might not be able to help much.
But when it comes to the International Culinary Competition, senior, don’t stand on ceremony with me.”
Chapter 865: Anything is Possible in Dreams_1 “If there’s anything I can help with, feel free to tell me,” Jenny Kirk said with a sweet smile.
Adrian Zhekova nodded casually and said, “Miss Kirk, no need to see me out.”
Jenny Kirk: “…”
Was he trying to get rid of her already?
Considering her contributions to Adrian’s business, it wasn’t necessary for him to be polite to her, but driving her away?!
Did Adrian truly not care about Pingla’s development any longer?
Jenny noticed that after Adrian had finished speaking, he ignored her.
He held Cindy’s hand and began to leave.
He didn’t even say goodbye to her.
...
There were so many Pingla employees coming and going around.
After all, she would have to visit frequently!
She couldn’t lose face here.
That would give Pingla’s employees something to laugh at.
Otherwise, how could she come to work at Pingla in the future?
Every visit would result in her being ridiculed?
Jenny Kirk could only maintain her dignity.
She laughed, “Then I’ll take my leave now, see you next time.”
After saying this, however reluctant Jenny Kirk was, she had to turn around and leave.
As she approached the door and was about to head to the parking lot to find her car.
Right at the entrance, she heard Pingla employees who had walked out ahead having a casual chat.
Just now in the hall on the first floor, because Adrian and Cindy were there.
The employees dared not voice the gossip circulating in their minds.
If it accidentally reached the ears of the scumbag CEO, it wouldn’t be a good thing.
So, only after they had walked out of the company building did they start discussing freely.
“The one who came down with the CEO just now…”
“I heard, it seems her surname is Kirk.”
“Kirk, huh?
But she doesn’t seem to possess any gravitas at all.”
“Perhaps she’s just pretending.”
Jenny Kirk: “…”
Why were these people so mean with their words!
How was she pretending to be high-profile!
How was she lacking propriety!
“Initially, I thought she was a client, there to discuss work with the CEO.”
“I noticed that as soon as she arrived at the hall with the CEO, she looked so pleased.
It made it seem as though she and the CEO shared some intimacy.”
“Ah?
I didn’t notice that at the time, I only assumed she was a client.”
“I also thought she was a client, I just looked at her subconsciously when I saw the CEO come down, I didn’t put much thought into it.”
“How could we have thought otherwise?
Even if our thoughts had strayed, we couldn’t possibly consider her having any romantic relationship with the CEO.”
“Exactly, our CEO seems to relish showing off his affectionate relationship with his wife, and he has not shown signs of tiring of it.
He’s too busy dispensing witness PDAs every day, how would he have time for other women?”
“You must keep your voice down, even if it’s true, but if the CEO hears it, given his temperament!” The person didn’t finish speaking and merely laughed.
Laugh at what exactly?
Imagine for yourself.
Jenny Kirk heard the employees from all around discussing the recent incident.
“Well, isn’t that why we didn’t start talking until we had walked out the door?”
“Miss Kirk probably has no idea that our CEO is wholeheartedly dedicated to his wife.
We wouldn’t regard him walking with any beautiful girls as anything suspicious, regardless of whether they were celebrities or models.”
Wondering about the scenarios of the scumbag CEO betraying Cindy?
Everyone just shook their heads.
They simply couldn’t picture it.
Jenny Kirk was becoming more and more upset the more she listened.
She quickly walked past everyone to find her car.
The colleagues from Pingla only then realized that Jenny Kirk had been there all along.
More importantly, she had heard everything.
However, the crowd was not concerned at all.
If Jenny Kirk heard, then she heard.
Afraid of what!
Even if she offended Jenny Kirk, what could the scumbag CEO do to them?
So, the crowd resumed its carefree discussion on what to eat for lunch: “Later, I’m going to order their deep-fried pork.
I’ve been craving it for a while.”
This colleague was from the northeast, and every now and then, he would miss his hometown food.
“Speaking of which, how does their deep-fried pork compare to your local version?”
“It’s a bit lacking, but it’s already quite close.”
“I feel like having snail noodles.
I’ve specifically brought a small bottle of perfume to spray after eating.” This coworker, whose hometown is in the state of Merton, was particularly fond of snail noodles and became restless if he didn’t eat them for a few days.
“It’s a shame Belfard doesn’t have any authentic snail noodle restaurants, it always lacks a bit of flavor.” The colleague said, “The soup here is not rich enough, and they don’t make it as spicy as we do back home, so the taste always falls a bit short.”
“Ah, you make me want to go to Merton to try the authentic snail noodles.” One of his colleagues said, “I’ve tried several popular brands of snail noodles available in the market.
Do you have any recommended brands that closely resemble your local flavor?”
“Um!” The colleague thought for a bit and said, “If you’re looking for a taste that’s an exact replica of our local flavor, there’s none.
After all, their authentic dishes still taste slightly different.”
“Just considering our region, there are several famous restaurants, with the taste of each varying slightly.
It all depends on personal preference,” the colleague commented.
“However, based on my personal taste, I prefer NongShim Black Noodle Soup.
The soup is rich and flavorful.
Others are too bland for me.
NongShim Black Noodle Soup is still delicious even if you can’t handle spiciness and don’t add chili oil, thanks to its soup mix.”
“Other brands make a clear white soup, but NongShim Black Noodle Soup creates a thick red soup, very flavorful.”
“Ah, okay, then I’ll try it.”
The chatter of colleagues gradually grew quieter and quieter.
Meanwhile, Cindy and Adrian had also entered the elevator.
In Adrian’s exclusive elevator, naturally, only he and Cindy were present, no one else to disturb them.
The lunchbox Cindy had been holding was already in Adrian’s hands.
Since no one else was in the elevator at this time, Cindy asked, “How did Jenny Kirk come down with you just now?”
“She came today as the representative of the International Culinary Competition’s organizers in Hearth Nation, but she didn’t have an appointment.
Sheldon Rowland thought it might be something important, so he asked if I wanted to see her.
When I found out it was her, I refused.”
“I assumed she had left, but unexpectedly, she was waiting outside.
As soon as I stepped out, she followed.” Adrian mentioned this and his lips tightened, clearly unhappy.
“I heard what she said just now,” replied Cindy, “Can she really be of help to Pingla?”
But Adrian scoffed, “Can a massive conglomerate like Pingla be boosted by her alone?”
“I advise her to keep dreaming, everything can happen in dreams,” Adrian said without mincing words, “She’s too full of herself.”
“She lacks insight, yet she’s so conceited.
Believing her analyses are spot-on while overestimating her significance at the International Chefs Association and among the sponsors of the International Culinary Competition,” Adrian said with disdain.
“But in reality, Pingla couldn’t care less about her slight privilege.”
Chapter 866: Such a Toxic Tongue_1 “She knows nothing about Pingla.” Adrian Zhekova said to Cindy Clarke, “Pingla has high-ranking officials in the International Chefs Association and many members.”
“Samson Zhekova is one of them,” said Adrian Zhekova.
Cindy Clarke was surprised, she never thought of this.
Adrian Zhekova smiled and said, “As one of the top four global culinary schools, Pingla Academy must have its members included.”
“And Samson Zhekova, as the headmaster of Pingla Academy, as well as the winner of the previous International Culinary Competition, a Michelin three-star chef, serves as a director in the association.”
“To be honest, if there was any latest news, I would go straight to Samson Zhekova.” Adrian Zhekova said.
“Michael Greene is also a member of the International Chefs Association.” Adrian Zhekova added, “Many chefs under Pingla are.”
Cindy Clarke didn’t expect Samson Zhekova to have such a significant role in the International Chefs Association.
No wonder Adrian Zhekova didn’t care what Jenny Kirk said.
“Has Samson not mentioned what Jenny Kirk spoke of?” Cindy Clarke asked.
She didn’t doubt that Samson Zhekova deliberately concealed it.
...
Having met Samson Zhekova only once, Cindy Clarke had a very good impression of him.
Samson Zhekova is open-minded and wouldn’t keep Adrian Zhekova in the dark if he knew something changed.
Besides, he is the headmaster of Pingla Academy.
The students from Pingla Academy would also be participating in International Culinary Competition.
He wouldn’t watch his students suffer losses.
“If Samson knew, he would indeed inform me first.” Adrian Zhekova said.
“He is in Pingla Academy, not permanently in International Chefs Association headquarters, he just goes there for annual meetings.” Adrian Zhekova said.
“However, for the International Culinary Competition, such as the rules and other changes, once confirmed, it would be reported to the association, and all the high-ranking officers would be notified by email.”
“If Samson didn’t receive it, then it means those changes are only in discussion and have not been finalized yet.” Adrian Zhekova said.
“Jenny Kirk heard some rumors and came to show off that she could influence the Cooking Competition.” Adrian Zhekova said.
Adrian Zhekova also trusted Samson Zhekova.
Cindy Clarke nodded her head.
She was relieved when she realized Jenny Kirk couldn’t influence anything.
Relaxing, she made a joke to Adrian Zhekova, “I never thought after getting married, you’d get a secret admirer.”
“What secret admirer?” Adrian Zhekova immediately wrapped his arm around Cindy Clarke’s waist.
“You’re insulting secret admirers.”
Cindy Clarke: “…”
This man, so poisonous with words!
“You’re such a poison tongue, you should say it in front of Jenny Kirk next time.” Cindy Clarke said.
So that Jenny Kirk won’t be thinking about Adrian Zhekova and believing she still has a chance.
Adrian Zhekova nodded, “Understood.”
***
In a blink of an eye, it was the day of the competition.
Because Jayden Zhekova, Aria Evans, Samson Zhekova, and Lyke Zhekova were all going to the competition.
Everyone rarely gathered at the family mansion.
With so many people, it was an impressive sight.
Although Gabriel Zhekova’s family wasn’t there.
Even without them, it was still a grand sight.
Moreover, without Gabriel Zhekova’s family there to be strange and distant, it was more harmonious.
Everyone came by car.
The elderly couple had one car, Jayden Zhekova’s family one, Lyk Zhekova one, Maverick Zhekova and Victoria Wheeler one.
And naturally, Adrian Zhekova, Cindy Clarke and their little munchkin were in one car.
So there were five cars in total.
The little one was sitting in the backseat, not yet buckled into his seatbelt before the car started moving.
He knelt on the chair, and with his chubby little hands propping on the back of the chair, he looked back.
The other four cars were all lined up behind them.
The little one propped his chin on his hand, shaking his head and said, “Looking like this, just like a wedding, a line of wedding cars on the road, so impressive.”
Cindy Clarke: “…”
You know what, it does look like that.
And, the cars belonging to Maverick Zhekova and the rest were all not cheap.
They were all luxury cars.
Except for the number of cars, them parked together looked just like wedding cars.
“Cindy, how many cars are usually in a wedding convoy?” the little one asked.
“Hmm…six or eight, I suppose.” Cindy Clarke replied.
His question reminded Adrian Zhekova.
Their wedding was still in the preparation stage.
They had registered their marriage a while ago.
They were waiting for warmer weather to hold the wedding.
By then, they must have an impressive lineup of wedding cars.
Before Old Madam came out, Adrian Zhekova and the rest waited in the car.
They had nothing else to do anyway.
Adrian Zhekova asked Cindy Clarke, “How many cars do you think we should have for our wedding?”
“I think eight are a bit few.” Adrian Zhekova, stroking his chin, said.
Cindy Clarke: “…”
It couldn’t be eighty, right?
“I think that eight is just about right.” Cindy Clarke said.
“No, I think at least twelve.” Adrian Zhekova said again.
Cindy Clarke: “…”
“Then twelve would also be suitable.” Cindy Clarke said, “Too many could cause a long traffic delay.”
The wedding cars should ideally drive in one procession, preferably without an interruption.
That would cause a severe jam.
The traffic in Belford is already not too good.
“Let me think about it.” Adrian Zhekova didn’t immediately agree.
No one knew what he was thinking about.
Cindy Clarke: “…”
By then, the elderly couple finally came out.
They could still hear the Old Master complaining in the car about the Old Madam being too slow.
“Look at your dilly-dallying, don’t let Cindy Clarke be late.” Old Master said.
“I know, I know.” Old Madam impatiently responded, “You’re so naggy.”
When everyone got into the cars, they finally headed off to the racecourse.
Cindy Clarke hadn’t seen Cynthia Florine and the rest for some time after the New Year.
Although they recorded special episodes together during the holidays.
Still, Cindy Clarke thought it seemed like a long time.
Because Cindy Clarke’s marriage with Adrian Zhekova was now public knowledge.
So this time, the people who sent Cindy Clarke over didn’t avoid the public and didn’t intentionally keep a low profile.
They parked their car in the parking lot.
Then they got out of the car together to take Cindy Clarke to the backstage.
On the way to the backstage, they naturally encountered many audience members who came to watch the competition.
Some had just parked their cars intending to head towards the ticket counter.
Some were already queueing at the ticket counter.
Others were on their way towards the ticket counter.
There were several ticket counters.
Audiences who bought tickets for different areas went to corresponding ticket counters to have their tickets checked and enter.
On this road, the visitors coming and going were many.
Chapter 867: This attitude is more intense than accompanying a child to university entrance exams_1 Adrian Zhekova’s entire family was in attendance and they did not avoid public attention.
They walked openly amongst the crowd.
“Grandfather, Grandmother, why don’t you go sit on the stage first?
The crowd is too big while escorting me to the backstage,” Cindy Clarke suggested.
“No, this is the first time we’re escorting you to a performance openly, we must accompany you,” the old madam insisted.
Cindy was touched and nodded in approval, “Alright.”
“But only this time,” Cindy reminded, “there are just too many people.”
“Alright, alright,” the old madam agreed while laughing.
She knew that Cindy was worried about their safety.
...
After all, they were old and it would be strenuous for them to walk for too long.
The crowd surrounding them was enormous and they could easily be jostled.
If they fell over, it could result in serious problems, especially given their age.
Due to their concern for the elders, they walked slowly.
And that drew even more attention.
Many people noticed them.
“Is that Cindy Clarke and Adrian Zhekova?”
“It’s them!”
Some audience members had bought season tickets and had seen every performance.
After seeing Cindy in person so many times, they immediately recognized her.
And naturally, if they recognized Cindy, they wouldn’t have trouble recognizing Adrian Zhekova standing next to her.
“Are those people at the back…
all elders of the Zhekova family?”
“I think the oldest two are the Zhekova elders we saw in Cindy and Adrian’s official announcement video.”
“And look, Adrian’s parents are there too, I recognize them.
They are helping the two elders walk!”
It turns out the audience had keen eyes.
People’s looks would differ slightly in video compared to real life.
While the difference wouldn’t be substantial, they might not be immediately recognizable.
“Oh my god, I believe it now.
Cindy really is very cherished in the Zhekova family.
They’ve all come to support her for her competition.”
“Actually, the Zhekova elders and Adrian’s parents have attended every performance before, we just didn’t know why.
After the official announcement, it becomes clear.
They have been coming to support Cindy all along!”
“They really adore Cindy!”
“Yes, the elders showed up personally to support Cindy in her official announcement video with Adrian, just to shut those slandering rumours.”
“Yes, it’s to prevent people from thinking that the Zhekova family is too prestigious and they must be against Cindy.
Some people are so narrow-minded.”
“Look at the Zhekova family, how generous they are.
They are not at all like what common people might think.”
“If they could be understood by common people, would they still be the Zhekova family?”
“Actually, because of this, my impression of the Zhekova family has improved.
They’re different from those wealthy families we usually think of.
They don’t care about others’ backgrounds.
They suddenly seem down-to-earth.”
“Yes, I previously thought that the Zhekova family was one of those aloof wealthy families.
Now I feel they are different from what I had imagined.”
“Think about those other prominent families, they all talk about political marriages and such, but none of them is as open-minded as the Zhekova family.
They just want real love instead of expanding their power through arranged marriages.
They don’t look down upon common people.”
“In this respect, the other families simply can’t compare.”
“Have you guys noticed that the other grand families are virtually all like this?”
“That’s why those lesser families can’t compare with the big eight families.
They’ve lost in terms of generosity.”
“Wait, who are those other four people?
Are they also from the Zhekova family?”
“They should be.
The man that looks about the same age as Adrian’s father also looks very much like him.”
“And the other two youngsters, they also resemble Adrian a lot.”
“Zhekova genes are definitely amazing.”
“Does anyone know if the two young ones are married yet?
Are they single?”
“Why, if they are single, are you thinking of trying your luck?”
“There might still be a chance!
Look at Adrian and Cindy.”
“The level of luck that would require, just thinking about it is enough!
Please don’t ever believe if it happened to Cindy, it can happen to you too.
If you keep thinking like that, you might end up staying single forever.”
“Take it easy!
I’m just daydreaming, not seriously considering it.”
“But it’s the first time they’ve come to the competition, they’ve never been seen before.”
“Other people from the Zhekova family came to support too, which shows the whole family supports Cindy.”
“So enviable!”
Amidst everyone’s envy, the entire Zhekova family escorted Cindy to the backstage.
Cynthia Florine and others haven’t seen Cindy for several days.
Upon seeing Cindy, Cynthia Florine instantly hugged her and said, “Little Cindy, I missed you so much.”
With such a warm welcome, Cindy was taken aback, but she let Cynthia Florine hold her.
Adrian Zhekova was standing by her side with a dark expression.
Hey, I’m her husband!
Even though Cynthia Florine is a woman, it’s still not acceptable!
Adrian Zhekova unceremoniously pulled Cynthia Florine’s hands off Cindy and pulled Cindy out of Cynthia Florine’s embrace.
He said with a dark face, “Just talk, no need to get touchy.”
Cynthia Florine: “…”
Hehe, this dog.
Upon noticing that all elders from the Zhekova family were there, even Cynthia Florine didn’t dare to act hot-headed.
“Everyone should relax, don’t be nervous.” The old madam smiled.
Everyone thought, how could they not be nervous with so many elders present?
“Didn’t Cindy and Adrian announce their relationship during the Spring Festival?” The old madam asked.
Adrian…
Everyone instinctively stared at Adrian Zhekova, his expression didn’t fit with his elder’s words.
“This is the first time Cindy has participated in the competition since the announcement, so we came together,” said the old madam.
Everyone: “…”
This display of support was even stronger than any parents accompanying their child during college entrance examinations.
During those exams, only the parents accompany the child.
But this was different, the entire family was here.
The thought crossed everyone’s mind – when Morgan Zhekova starts attending school, would they be expected to do the same?
Fortunately, people like Pingla were broad-minded and good-natured.
They weren’t petty-minded, getting upset over little things.
If not, they might have thought this was a show of force, a warning not to bully Cindy.
If Zoe Silverstone, Iris Doone, or even Joseph Tanner and Blake Walker were here, they probably would have thought the same way.
Chapter 868: Owning a Restaurant of Your Own_1 On the day that Cindy Clarke and Adrian Zhekova made their official announcement via video, Parker Honi and their team from Pingla Academy were among the first to share and send their well wishes.
All the contestants who made it into the top ten, including the one who fell short at the eleventh spot, Ava Brown, publicly shared and commented on the Facebook post Cindy made.
They did not share Adrian’s post.
After all, they were not really acquainted with Adrian.
Sharing it would just invite accusations of calculated flattery.
Nonetheless, being skilled competitors, they didn’t believe Pingla Academy would give them a hard time over such a matter.
Precisely because they shared and commented in support!
The matter of Cindy and Adrian was met with an attitude of support, free of any animosity.
...
And this helped in reducing doubts and skepticism.
It was evident that the other contestants weren’t concerned about Cindy’s relationship with Adrian, nor were they worried that Cindy’s results would be bias.
Parker Honi and the rest were setting an example with their own actions.
They believed in Cindy.
The doubts and concerns raised by outsiders!
They simply didn’t bother about them.
If the contestants themselves showed no concern, why should the bystanders make a fuss?
Thus, even though there were individuals who wanted to create a scene, they never got the chance to.
“Cindy, keep going!” After cheering Cindy on, the elders left so they wouldn’t hinder the contestants backstage.
The elders left ahead, while Adrian stayed behind.
Cindy saw Adrian out to the backstage door.
Adrian said, “Don’t put pressure on yourself.”
The competition becomes more challenging as it progresses.
Especially at this stage.
The contestants from Pingla Academy would have to give it their all.
Adrian had confidence in Cindy.
But he didn’t want her to cave in under the pressure and not perform at her best.
That could lead to more regret than losing to a more skillful contestant.
“I understand,” Cindy said, “I didn’t expect to win first place when I originally decided to participate.”
“Being able to get this far has already exceeded my expectations,” Cindy continued,”I haven’t forgotten, my initial reason for participating was to silence Zoe Silverstone.”
“To prove to the public and my supportive followers that it’s Zoe trying to discredit me.
Every ingredient in my dishes is authentic, and I didn’t hire someone else to cook or take photographs for me.
Everything is authentic.”
“In fact, during the early stages of the competition, Zoe was eliminated and as I progressed in the competition, proving my cooking skills, I’d already achieved my initial goal.” Cindy laughed.
“Any subsequent achievements are just a bonus,” Cindy stated.
“When I helped out at the small restaurants back in Nork City, I occasionally got the opportunity to cook a few dishes.
Back then, my dream was simply to become a chef and own my own restaurant.”
She had never rested her hopes on her family’s small restaurant here.
Even though it was small and Wendy Clarke didn’t value it, she never thought it would be given to her.
Wendy didn’t want it and wouldn’t bail out of it to her.
So, Cindy only planned to leave once she finished university.
Even without the incident with Adrian, she still planned on leaving Nork City.
However, due to the scheming, Cindy had to advance her departure date from Nork City.
Because Cindy knew that if she stayed in Nork City, she wouldn’t be able to accomplish any of the things she wanted to do.
Christy Xenos and Wendy Clarke would not allow her to pursue her dreams, they would only discourage and oppress her.
They wanted her to continue as the family’s domestic helper.
To confine her to the small restaurant, whether as a drudge or in the kitchen.
Then, when the time came, they would hand over the small restaurant to Wendy.
Wendy, not valuing the small restaurant, would let Cindy manage it, but Wendy would own all the fruits of its success.
Even if Cindy loved cooking, she never thought of using love as motivation.
And especially not when the resulting energy went to Wendy.
To let herself be suppressed by Wendy’s control all her life.
She too wanted to have her own life, to have her own passions.
So, Cindy decided long ago that she would secretly leave Nork City after her graduation from university.
She wanted to use the four years at university to save a substantial amount of money.
At least enough to survive in a foreign city.
However, plans cannot keep up with the changes.
Because she had been framed by Wendy and Christy Xenos, she was forced to run away early.
She had not saved enough money.
And had gone through some hard times in Belford.
“As for now, participating in this competition and progressing this far, I feel that I’m already so close to my dream,” Cindy said.
“Before meeting you, when I registered for the competition, I was thinking that after proving myself, I could start planning for my restaurant,” Cindy stated.
“During these years, my earnings as a food blogger have been high, and I’ve paid attention to finance and savings, wanting to wait until life is stable and then use that saved money to start a restaurant.”
“I calculated it before, and according to my plans, the budget should be enough.
I never planned to start with a large-scale restaurant.
Everything has to be done step by step, accumulated bit by bit.”
Just like when she first came to Belford, she never thought she would become a renowned food blogger.
Even when she began blogging about food, she never thought she could reach this stage today.
Actually, other than the foundations laid by Joshua Clarke in the small restaurant in Nork City, …
It was largely due to the fact that she had worked in a restaurant kitchen after coming to Belford.
Cindy learned a lot.
No matter how much Joshua Clarke taught her, he could only teach the dishes that the small restaurant offered.
In the small city of Nork City, that was enough.
The restaurant wasn’t competing against high-end restaurants after all.
Their target customers were snack bars, food stalls and the like.
But this was not enhancing Cindy’s cooking skills.
Even though Joshua Clarke’s culinary skills were better than an average person’s,
He couldn’t compete with professional chefs.
Only when Cindy arrived in Belford and worked in a restaurant kitchen did she learn many things she’d never come into contact with before.
Whether it was in culinary methods or knife skills, she made significant progress.
The head chef at that time saw that this girl was willing to work hard — She was even more hard-working than his own apprentices and uncomplaining.
And she had a genuine passion for the culinary art.
The restaurant’s head chef broke the rules and took her as an apprentice.
Unfortunately, Cindy fell pregnant and couldn’t continue.
Even the head chef was quite regretful.
But later, the head chef found out that Cindy had become a food blogger and got in touch with her.
He learnt that Morgan, Cindy’s kid was slightly older,
That Cindy was financially better off than before, enough to hire a nanny to help take care of Morgan.
The master chef saw that Cindy still loved the culinary art as much as she used to.
And that she had not stopped digging deeper into the culinary world even after earning money as a food blogger and could have lived a comfortable life.
So, he introduced her to a famous chef.
Of course, the master chef himself couldn’t directly ask the old master to accept Cindy as an apprentice.
Cindy would still have to rely on her own efforts in the end.
Chapter 869: Absolutely Not Rushing to Annoy People_1 But without the head chef’s help, Cindy Clarke might not even have the chance to convince that master to take her as an apprentice.
So, Cindy has always been greatly grateful to the head chef.
In retrospect, it seems that she has always encountered benefactors along her journey.
“Regardless of my final ranking in this competition,” Cindy said to Adrian Zhekova, “Even if I get eliminated from this competition, it’s all right.”
“I’ve mentally prepared myself a long time ago,” said Cindy, “I planned to pursue my dream once I had settled things with Morgan.”
“Now is the perfect time,” Cindy said confidently.
Even without meeting Adrian, her life with Morgan is already stable.
She has sufficient income to support herself.
She doesn’t have to wander around homeless like she used to.
...
Even if she’s busy with the restaurant, she can still find the time to continue her work as a food blogger.
If there are any financial difficulties with the restaurant, the income from her food blog can be used to compensate.
Looking back, Cindy realized that she has always been making herself busy.
Constantly challenging herself.
She could have just focused on being a successful food blogger and didn’t have to go through the hard work of starting a business again.
Besides, running a restaurant comes with significant risks.
Though she has the fame of being a food blogger that could draw a certain crowd.
Yet, past the initial appeal, a restaurant’s survival depends on its ability to continually attract diners.
Many restaurants start out ambitiously, but, not long afterward, end up having to close due to financial losses.
Starting a restaurant might seem profitable, but the chances of failure are also higher.
But Cindy still wants to give it a try.
If life doesn’t have a bit of challenge, if there isn’t any determination and courage to fight for one’s dreams,
How could one, when now old, reflect back on their life knowing,
that they regret many things they never did, regret never daring to try.
Leaving the world they can only journey through once filled with regrets,
How painful would that be?
Adrian Zhekova nodded: “Alright, I support you.”
“Let’s not discuss this now.
We’ll talk about it after the competition,” said Cindy, “You should go sit down, I’ll be going back.”
“All right.” Adrian nodded, seeing Cindy head backstage, then left.
Not long after Adrian left, Peggy Lewis also came to the backstage area.
Peggy didn’t rudely barge in.
She poked her head through the entrance cautiously.
The door to the backstage area was left open.
Because earlier on, both Zoe Silverstone and Iris Doone had unpleasant altercations with Cindy.
Therefore, they were worried that if the participants closed the door, another unpleasant incident might occur.
So, they left the doors open.
So if anything does happen, they can hear and rush over immediately.
“Cindy!” Peggy called from the doorway.
Cindy heard the voice, turned her head towards the door.
Seeing Peggy, she ran over quickly.
“Why aren’t you coming in?” asked Cindy, as she gave Peggy a big hug.
“Aren’t there other contestants here?
It’d be rude if our chit-chat disturbed them,” responded Peggy.
“Don’t worry about it, they’re all good people,” said Cindy with a smile.
“Well, I really didn’t have anything else to discuss.
I just came to cheer you on,” Peggy admitted.
Peggy went back home for New Year’s.
Even though her home is in Belfard,
but her maternal family’s elders still live in the old house in Lexington City.
They don’t go back every year.
After all, her paternal grandparents live in Belfard.
So they alternate each year.
One year they spend New Year’s in Belfard, the next they head back to the old house in Lexington City.
This year was their turn to go back to Lexington.
Therefore, Cindy wasn’t able to visit the Lewis Family during New Year’s.
After the New Year Celebration, once Cindy got hold of the tickets for the major competition, she sent one to Peggy.
The seats are connected to the Zhekova Family’s, and all are front-row VIP seats.
“Alright, I’ll go find my seat now,” Peggy said hastily.
Cindy grabbed her, saying, “Wait a second.”
“What?” Peggy stopped and asked.
Cindy feels that ever since she married Adrian, she hasn’t been able to give Peggy much attention.
The number of times that they’ve met is fewer than before.
But being busy isn’t an excuse.
Peggy is just as busy, yet she always manages to find the time to help Cindy look after Morgan.
Cindy feels that she’s neglected Peggy.
Cindy is filled with remorse.
“What happened to you?
Why do you look like you’ve done something that betrayed me?” No one knew Cindy better than Peggy.
Just one look at Cindy’s face, and Peggy could decipher her emotions.
“Come on, tell me.
What have you done to betray me?” Though Peggy couldn’t quite believe that Cindy would do anything to betray her.
She simply can’t comprehend why Cindy would make such a face.
Cindy said awkwardly, “I feel like I’ve been neglecting you.
It’s been so long since we’ve last met.”
“Who said that?
Didn’t you just bring me the ticket last week?” Peggy immediately defended once she heard that.
“You know what I mean,” Cindy retorted.
Peggy burst out laughing, “You’re worrying about unnecessary things.
We’re always in contact, and although we don’t meet as often, we still chat on Whatsapp daily, I don’t feel neglected at all.”
“Don’t overthink it,” Peggy advised, “You used to need help with Morgan, and I helped out where I could.
It was natural for me to visit you more often.”
“Now that there’s someone to help with Morgan and you’re not as worn out, it gives me a chance to breathe as well.
You can’t expect me to visit you all the time like before, can you?”
“Besides, you’re living with Adrian now.
I’m usually busy on weekdays and can’t visit you.
By the time I’m off work or it’s the weekend or holiday, you’re always with Adrian.
Should I go there and be a third wheel?”
“Moreover, even if I do pop over, Adrian guards you so closely that I’d feel like I’m intruding on your married life.” Peggy couldn’t help but roll her eyes when mentioning Adrian.
Back when Cindy and Adrian weren’t married, she only accidentally ran into Adrian a few times.
But even then, his disdain was quite apparent.
Peggy sure had no interest in going out of her way to offend him.
Cindy: “…”
“Let’s meet outside then,” said Cindy, “After the competition’s over, we’ll have more time.”
“Sounds good,” Peggy responded, “When I get the chance, I’ll come to visit you at your home.”
At that time, Adrian won’t be at home, so she’d be able to chat with Cindy properly.
“You wouldn’t believe how much I miss your cooking,” said Peggy as she linked arms with Cindy.
Chapter 870: This Competition, is the Final_1 Because of Adrian Zhekova, she hadn’t had any of Cindy Clarke’s food in a long time.
She negged for it.
“…” Cindy Clarke said with a laugh, “So, you miss my cooking, not me or Morgan?”
“Hehehe!” Peggy Lewis said, “I miss you both, but not as much as I miss your food.
It’s torture to my stomach.”
“Alright.” Cindy Clarke replied, “If you’re around for business, just come over and I’ll cook for you.
Or I can cook for you at noon and send it over.”
“Aren’t you always sending lunch to Adrian during noon?” Peggy Lewis asked.
“Exactly, it’s no trouble.
I’ll just double the portion when I cook for him and it will be enough for the three of us.
...
Before I bring him his, I’ll stop by your company first.” Cindy Clarke replied.
“That’s too convoluted, don’t go to such trouble.” Peggy Lewis replied, “Instead, I’ll come to you.”
What a big eyeroll Adrian would give her if he found out about this!
“No more talk, you better get prepared.” Peggy Lewis originally came to see Cindy, to cheer her on.
She didn’t expect to be delaying Cindy’s preparation time.
“I’ll go up first.” Peggy Lewis said.
“Okay.” Cindy Clarke nodded, and watched as Peggy Lewis walked away before finally returning to backstage.
Actually, there wasn’t much to prepare.
She didn’t even know the topic yet.
All she needed to do was to calm herself down, relax, and get herself in a good state of mind for the competition.
However, after being visited by Adrian Zhekova and Peggy Lewis and listening to all their words, Cindy’s mood was very calm without any self-guidance.
Much better than if she were alone.
Cindy Clarke then went to change into her chef’s uniform, all ready and awaiting the call on stage.
Not long after, a staff member came to notify her, it was time to go on stage.
So Cindy Clarke went on stage with everyone else.
There were only ten contestants remaining now, so there was more space for everyone.
The stage remained the same, just as big as ever.
But each person’s cooking station had become larger.
And they looked even more exquisite.
Every competitor’s station had their name on it.
This wasn’t the case in previous competitions.
On the station lay an apron.
When Cindy Clarke unfolded the apron, she discovered her name was embroidered on it.
Just like, Cindy Clarke now had a name in the world of cuisine.
Quite a surprise.
Cindy Clarke put on the apron and turned her head to look at everyone else.
Sure enough, everyone had their name embroidered on their aprons.
The big screen began the countdown to the official start of the competition.
When the countdown reached 1, the big screen split in the middle.
Grace Green walked out from behind the screen.
“Everyone, I’m your host for today’s competition, Grace Green.”
“Thank you, everyone, for coming to watch today’s competition.”
“You won’t be disappointed because today is a very important competition.”
“Because of the particularity of today’s competition, the organizing committee has made some changes.”
“As you can see, each competitor’s cooking station has changed.
The stations are more luxurious than before, and each player’s apron is embroidered with their name.”
“This apron is unique to each competitor.
It is the most special, and one of a kind!”
“These changes are not just because we are down to the top ten, and there’s more space on the stage.”
“It’s because, this competition is the final!” Grace Green announced.
