Ch. 41..45: Fatal Kiss Of The Vampire Chapter 41-45

Chapter 41: She Felt Bad

There sat a woman with a beautiful profile and long dark hair. It was like the color of… the chunk of mud that Pupu had given her.

She closed the curtains and took out Pupu’s mud-caked statue from her bag. It did indeed look like a statue, the more she looked at it.

It was an abstract, dry statue, but when she looked closely, she could make out the shape of a woman: those abstract lines could be the hair…

This time, Kylie felt bad.

She remembered the first time she had asked Lord Ethan whether she could keep Pupu’s gift, and he had refused. So why the hell had he agreed this time?

Kylie tossed the statue aside, and it rolled on the floor. Although it had hit the ground with force, it remained intact.

She lifted the blankets over her body and lay still in anger.

Fine, she thought, the statue was innocent. And it was from Pupu, not Ethan, so she picked it up.

She got out of bed, with bare feet, and placed the statue back in her bag.

But when she returned to bed, she couldn’t sleep.

For the past several years, she had become used to sleeping alone. Yet, she found that with only a couple of days sleeping by Ethan’s side, she now depended on his presence to feel sleepy.

Her head rested on the pillow, and she could feel him. His smell was everywhere in the room, which drove her crazy.

But Ethan didn’t return, as she had expected.

After dinner, the butler took her luggage to the door. “Ma’am, shall I call a car to drive you?”

“No! I can do this myself.” Kylie chewed at the gum in her mouth. She didn’t like going to work, but this was different; it felt like traveling.

She wore sweatpants, just like a student.

“But I do want to say something to you,” Kylie said to the butler.

“Of course, ma’am.” He bowed.

Kylie chewed some more and said: “I want to take Pupu with me.”

The butler stopped and didn’t know how to reply to her. Lucy had instructed him never to refuse directly.

Pupu had never shown any enthusiasm to anyone, except Lord Ethan. But since he had taken over his new business, he hadn’t been around very much to care for Pupu. Perhaps this would be a good idea.

“Please wait a minute, ma’am, I will call sir and ask him if it’s all right.”

Kylie let him call the number. She looked peaceful and kept her eyes on the butler.

Watching him walking towards her, she felt nervous, and her heart began to beat quickly.

It would be impossible to expect an apology from Lord Ethan. But she wanted his attitude to improve, and she wanted him to comfort her. Only then would she forgive the things that had happened last night. After all, she was a fool to remain mad at him.

She smiled and was ready to speak on the phone to him.

The butler looked at her for a second, then put on a serious expression.

It was as if Lord Ethan had materialized in front of her, in the form of his butler. He nodded from time to time, as he spoke on the phone.

“I see.” The butler hung up the phone, as Kylie watched him with expectation.

“He agreed,” the butler told her.

“He… didn’t say anything else?” Kylie asked, a little shocked. They had spoken on the phone for what seemed like such a long time-how could that be all he said?

“No.” The butler, with a serious expression, turned towards Pupu’s room, and let the dog out.

When Pupu was released from the room, he was excited and rushed towards Kylie.

“Let’s go on vacation, okay?” Kylie immediately felt at ease when she saw Pupu.

Arf! Arf! Pupu expected Kylie to play with him, and happily ran back and forth, then circled her, then stopped in front of her.

When the leash was clipped to his collar, his ears suddenly stood up, and he couldn’t suppress the low whines of anxiety.

Kylie realized that Pupu was unhappy and stressed out. Even when she approached him, the fur on the back of his neck went up.

“We’re going there by car. I’m sorry about that. But please be patient, okay?”

She wanted to comfort him by rubbing his coat, but when she moved her hand, he followed it with his nose. The whines turned to growls, and he rejected being touched.

Okay. Fine. Kylie sat cross-legged on the ground. She smiled at Pupu.

Pupu looked at her for a while, until his erect ears relaxed. He walked a few steps forward and lay down in front of Kylie.

The tense confrontation was finally over. Kylie rubbed his neck while Pupu rested his head on her lap, with trust.

The butler, off to the side, was obviously nervous. When Mr. Parker had agreed to let the dog go, he’d been shocked.

No matter what his intention had been, everything was fine now.

“Ma’am, pets can’t be in the car. It’s going to be troublesome if you take Pupu with you. How about…”

“That’s fine. I can figure it out.” Kylie tied one end of the leash to her luggage.

She wanted to send a text message to Ethan, telling him that she was leaving for work. But when she remembered that he had not asked to speak with her on the phone just then, she realized that he must still be upset.

Okay. Just let it go. It’s better not to bother him. She would explain everything to him when she was back home.

The tense atmosphere in the Century Group building that day made it difficult for everyone to breathe.

The CEO had just reprimanded the top management for not reporting the numbers accurately.

Before that, the CEO had been a walking ice machine, and today he had become a walking iceberg. The entire building was covered with ice and snow; it seemed.

“Elliot, is the CEO in a better mood yet?” asked the chief secretary, who wanted to bring him some documents. However, she didn’t want to become his next punching bag.

Elliot thought that the butler had called, and asked him something about Kylie.

He had stood to the side for a while until he had seen Ethan’s expression darken, at which point Elliot had stepped out of the room.

With many years’ experience being around Ethan, Elliot could read any of his many subtle expressions.

Chapter 42: Royal Flush

But he hadn’t understood why Ethan had suddenly approached Kylie, and married her without knowing her very well. But he could see now that Ethan’s indifferent, cold temperament of many years would suddenly change at the mention of Kylie.

“He should be better,” Elliot analyzed.

“Good, these documents are very urgent.” The chief secretary smiled and knocked at the CEO’s door.

Her smile had barely had time to sit on her face when she heard two cold words from inside the office: “Go away.”

The chief secretary was speechless, and Elliot shrugged his shoulders, “Oops. Sorry.”

***

Late that night, Ethan is at an entertainment club.

He was surrounded by the sound of people playing Texas Hold’em again.

“Lord Ethan, I will lose my underwear if you win again.” A fat man shook his head helplessly.

Ethan was sitting at the table, barely speaking a word all night. When he did say something, it was “Straight” or “Flush.” The fat man wanted to quit, but he was afraid of making Ethan angry.

The thin man who was sitting beside the fat man also wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and carefully looked at his cards. “Lord Ethan had good luck today. I envy him.”

The next man, who was about to draw a card, saw Ethan move in the corner of his eye. His hand suddenly stopped in the air. His eyes were filled with a rapidly waning joy. “Lord, flush again?”

Ethan leaned back in his chair and didn’t speak.

He cautiously looked at Ethan’s face, then drew a card. It wasn’t until he saw Ethan being dealt with more cards, that he took a deep breath.

Ethan rotated a chip between two fingers, to another two fingers, without trying to be fancy. He seemed legitimately relaxed. Then he spoke two words:

“Royal flush.”

The other man’s hands shook as he pushed his chips towards Ethan. This was terrible.

Just as they were all handing in their chips, the fat man’s cell phone rang. He looked at the caller id, and answered with impatience: “What?! I see… Okay, I’m in a meeting! Bye.”

The fat man put his phone away and complained to Ethan: “I’m really sick of this old woman. Calling me seems to be her only business. As if I can make money when I have nothing to do!”

At that time, the thin man’s phone began to ring. His attitude was more harmonious: “Sweetie. Do you miss me? … No, there are no girls here. I’m playing cards with a few bosses… I love you. Good night.”

The thin man hung up the phone. He agreed with the fat man. “Exactly. See? She suspects me of looking for another woman… Calls me three times in an hour, If I’m really having sex, I must be really fast…”

The third man raised his mobile phone. “My girl hasn’t called me, but she’s left me many messages. If I don’t text back within three minutes, she complains that I don’t love her.”

Ethan’s face was getting darker, and his entire body was filled with a chill. He pushed his cards forward and got up to leave.

The others were immediately dumbfounded. What had they said? Ah, yeah, they had just been saying that being entangled with a woman was very annoying… Lord Ethan was so proud; he would never experience such pain.

Nate quickly picked up his phone that Ethan had left behind. There were no missed calls or messages. He smiled at the others. “Remember to transfer the money to his account.”

When he ran outside, he could barely make out the Knight XV’s tail lights.

Then he noticed Fannie Bass standing to the side. “Why are you here?” he asked.

Fannie grabbed the phone in Nate’s hand. “This is his phone, right? I’ll send it to him.”

After she finished, she rushed to the Maserati parked on the side of the road. She had tried so many times to create a chance encounter with Ethan. Today, she finally had a reason.

She was happily driving along for three minutes before a Lamborghini nudged her to the side of the road. Nate got out of the car and took the mobile phone away from her.

“Are you crazy? Do you think you can just go to Toprak Mansion without his permission?”

Ben, the butler, watched from afar as the Knight XV drove towards Toprak Mansion.

Then he heard the sound of the car horn…

But he didn’t see anybody emerge from the car.

Annoyed with himself, Ethan leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes. His chin was slightly raised, and the lights outside the car window outlined his angular profile.

He had not returned home last night on purpose, and he hadn’t shown up at all during the day. “As the wife, shouldn’t she be the first to call me?” He seethed.

He had made a lot of noise when he’d driven in. He assumed he must have been heard.

Even if she was reading her script, it was unlike her not to come out and investigate. It’s said that all women love to gossip. He thought that Kylie would be curious as to what was happening.

Everyone else seemed upset with their wives and lovers because of their endless nagging, while Ethan was annoyed that his wife did not bother him at all…

He wanted to take out his cellphone and check, after such a long time, if there were any unread messages or missed calls. But he suddenly remembered that he’d left his phone behind.

He frowned. The handsome face became gloomy.

Half an hour later, he opened the car door. He thought, sulkily: It’s best that she doesn’t stick to me, then there won’t be any trouble when we divorce.

He strode towards the living room, without stopping, and gently ordered Ben: “Call Nate and tell him to bring my phone back.”

“Yes, sir.”

Seeing him pulling a long face, Lucy had wanted to approach him, but she was scared and backed off.

He continued to stride towards the bedroom.

As soon as he pushed the bedroom door open, he was struck dumb with astonishment. He never allowed the servants to enter his bedroom, so the room remained exactly the same since Kylie left:

Chapter 43: Don’t Be So Naive

The sheets were crumpled; the quilts were twisted together; one pillow was on the bed, while the others were heaped on the floor.

He scanned the bedroom but did not see the culprit.

When pushing open the bathroom door, his heart skipped a beat. His daily necessities were the only things left in the cabinet. Kylie was gone!

“Just because I lost my temper and didn’t come home last night, she was angry enough to leave?” Ethan mumbled to himself. Thinking about it, he chuckled.

However, after that moment of humor, he felt extremely sad. He reckoned that Kylie had left him forever, and would refuse to stay with him again…

Lucy guessed what was going through his mind, and called from downstairs: “Sir, Mrs. Parker has gone to Baleney.”

All of a sudden, he remembered that Kylie was not necessarily angry with him, but that she had merely gone to work.

“Um.” He responded lightly. He returned to the bedroom.

When he took out his bathrobe from the wardrobe, he couldn’t help but notice the blue cartoon pajamas hanging in the middle of his row of near-white dress tops and black trousers-what a careless girl, who couldn’t even properly hang her pajamas.

Normally, one hangs clothes from the neckline, but Kylie had hung her pajamas by the cuff so that they looked awry.

Ethan took out the pajamas in order to re-hang them, but he changed his mind when his hands touched the soft fabric.

After taking a bath, he dried his hair with one hand, and he draped the pajamas over his other arm.

He walked to the next room. He entered the password to the locked door, and it clicked open…

***

Tea House began shooting in a market town at the foot of the Baleney mountains.

When Kylie arrived, she finally realized why Laurence had invested thirty million dollars into the film but hadn’t kicked her off the crew.

It had been decided that Khloe would play the leading actress, whereas Kylie would act as the third heroine: the younger sister to the tea maiden, an arrogant woman named Becky Ruiz.

In the first scene, the two sisters accompanied their father to town to shop, where they met a woman who made a living as a street performer. This woman and the tea maiden’s father exchanged meaningful glances.

Kylie’s character had few shots in this scene; she was merely required to follow her father obediently.

In order to be realistic, the bamboo basket that Kylie carried on her back was really filled with tea, plus she had to wear realistic, thick clothing. Kylie could feel that her back was soaked with sweat.

As soon as the director shouted, “Cut!” Lucas hastened towards Khloe with two assistants. Lucas brought her a chair, while one assistant massaged her shoulders and legs, and the other helped fix her makeup.

Lucas took the opportunity to give her a bottle of water and began fanning her, all smiles.

In contrast, there was nobody around Kylie. There wasn’t even any water for her to drink or any real place for her to rest. She could only sit on a stone by the side of the road to take a short break.

Many people in the crew knew Kylie, and they met, telling the director that she was so dedicated and professional. Director Johnson also nodded to indicate that he knew. His eyes were always drawn to Kylie on screen.

Although she had no lines in this scene, her eyes were very expressive; they were full of hatred for the fact that Becky’s father was planning to remarry. Hence, Becky would purposefully mess up everything, and become her stepmother’s thorn.

Kylie’s performance did not disappoint the director.

At that moment, someone excitedly cried out: “Goddess Khloe, your fiancé has come to visit!”

In the distance, Aiden was stepping out of the car with an incubator in his hand, distributing iced drinks to the crew along the way.

“Oh my gosh! It’s fresh juice! Thanks, Master Parker Jr.”

“What a perfect match. We’re so envious.”

“Since you’re so busy, Master Parker Jr. visits you in the backcountry. What a good man!”

“You’re just like sparrows. I don’t think you guys are really thirsty.” Khloe glanced at them shyly, then took a glass of juice and brought it to Kylie.

“Kylie, you must be thirsty. Have a drink.”

“Thanks.” Kylie accepted it politely but didn’t drink it.

She knew by now that Khloe liked to pretend to be nice in public. However, Kylie was becoming fed up with her performance. Nobody in the crew knew about their personal animosity, so Kylie wanted to avoid confrontation. If Khloe wanted to pretend, then Kylie was happy to cooperate.

Returning to Aiden, Khloe pulled him into a corner. She hesitated for a few seconds before speaking. “Aiden, there’s something I don’t know if I should say…”

“What can’t you say to me?” Aiden pulled a chair out for Khloe.

“On the day of the opening ceremony, Dad told Kylie that I was going to join the crew. She didn’t approve, so they quarreled.”

Aiden didn’t respond.

“And she also told Dad that if I was in, she would leave. She said she’d never been in the same crew as me. Dad thought that I would be worried, so he invested thirty million dollars into the Tea House.”

“Then you should be safe now. But didn’t she say she would never be in the same crew as you? Why is she here?”

Aiden turned to look at Kylie. Sweat was running down her face; her makeup was a little ruined, but the way she looked at her script, with complete seriousness, surprised him.

With a pen in her mouth, she read and re-read the script, attentively making notes for herself.

Khloe swayed Aiden’s arm, making him look back at her. She said: “This is what I’m worried about…”

“What are you afraid of?” Aiden was beginning to lose his patience.

“My Dad said that Kylie has an unusual relationship with an investor, who has demanded that Kylie be the lead actress, or else the script will be destroyed,” Khloe responded.

Aiden was annoyed. “She doesn’t have the ability.”

“Don’t be so naive. You know her reputation pretty well. Besides, if she isn’t that kind of person, how could she have hooked up with Lord Ethan?

Once Khloe had mentioned Lord Ethan, Aiden was even more annoyed.

His Uncle Ethan, who had previously forbidden any woman to be with him, allowed Kylie to move in at Toprak Mansion within days!

Chapter 44: Five Years Ago

Five years before, when Ethan had first come home, Aiden’s mother had visited Toprak Mansion with gifts, only to be chased away and bitten by Ethan’s dog.

Ethan had never explained himself. It was the butler who had finally gone out and clarified that Lord Ethan forbade any woman from approaching Toprak Mansion.

“Director Johnson, someone’s here for you,” a staff member called in a strange voice. All of a sudden, everyone was focused. There was a van parked by the roadside.

Two movers were taking out boxes. One of them said something to the director. Director Johnson nodded and allowed staff to distribute the things in the boxes.

The makeup artist held a cup of coffee, and approached Kylie with a smile, offering to touch up her face. “Thank you for inviting us to have iced coffee.”

“Iced coffee?” Kylie didn’t understand. She hadn’t sipped water yet, herself. How could she invite others to have iced coffee? Moreover, this was a mountain area, and it was impossible to find a nearby cafe.

Just as Kylie was about to clarify, her phone beeped. It was a Facebook message.

“A little treat,” it read, followed by a coffee emoji. Kylie knew that it was from Star, as soon as she read the message.

She wore a faint smile and replied: “Thank you. The coffee is delicious, but please don’t do that again. It costs too much.”

Then her eyes fell on the coffee cup left behind by the makeup artist. She knew the logo; it was from a very famous shop in Seattle. How could he send coffee all that way without the ice melting?

“Coffee is way cheaper than five million dollars.” Kylie didn’t know what to say to that. It was true, that if she’d borrowed five million from him, to fix that dress, she probably wouldn’t have been able to pay it back during this lifetime.

The hot shooting location seemed a lot cooler after the iced coffee. On the contrary, the fruit juice that Aiden had brought was now mostly water, with fruit pulp on top, and juice on the bottom-since it had been left aside for a while, now that there was coffee.

“See, I told you. That coffee must have come from the big boss.” Khloe’s eyes were now green with envy. Aiden unconsciously clenched his fist and walked towards a quiet place to make a call.

“Find out who the boss is behind Peak Pictures…” Before he could finish, the set was in action again. A man came straight to Kylie and handed her a box. “Miss Kylie, please sign for this parcel.”

Kylie didn’t know what had happened. Who had sent this?

She opened it. There was a rose inside. The makeup artist standing beside her yelled out in surprise, “Oh my! Is this an ice sculpture?”

In the gold, velvety box, there lay a crystal-clear rose, shining brightly under the sun. Even the thorns on the stem were super sharp. Kylie’s hands were shaking slightly, not because the rose inside the box froze her, but because a piece of paper stuck in the corner read: “My arms are always open to you.”

She took a deep breath and looked up at the delivery man. “Please take this away,” she said.

“Sorry, I’m only responsible for the delivery.” The man looked uneasy. Kylie smiled mildly and said: “Even though you’re just responsible for delivering, you still need to choose an appropriate place. Do you think this place is good?”

“Right,” the makeup artist nodded. “We work late, and the weather is so hot. It would be a shame if it melted.”

“Well…”

“Please just help me find a safe place for it,” Kylie said, stopping the man. She was probably the only one who realized that this rose was made of diamond, and not a block of ice. The man looked around. It’s true, and there were so many people… It would be a shame if such a valuable rose was lost.

“Then, we can help you store it in Citibank for now, and you can pick it up when you return to Seattle.”

“Thank you so much.” Kylie returned the box to the delivery man. The makeup artist was a little confused. Citibank was a famous international bank, but since when did it provide ice storage service?

Kylie had calmed herself down before approaching Director Johnson. “I’m so sorry for causing any trouble,” she said.

“You’re a good girl, and it’s quite normal for men to chase the actresses,” Julian replied with a smile. He continued: “But gossip can easily bring publicity for a new film, and sometimes it can develop in the wrong way. You need to be cautious.”

Kylie nodded. “Thank you for your advice.”

Khloe, who had been sitting in the distance, now sneered. Indeed, Kylie had affairs with men. “Dear Aiden, do you believe in my words now?”

Aiden was so irritated that he almost broke his phone in half.

“I thought she was in love with you since she publicly chased you for five years… But now, it appears that she only loved you because you ignored her.” Khloe snorted with indifference. “How did I not realize it earlier? How could she have such an affluent lifestyle by herself, without a man’s help!”

The shell of Aiden’s phone cracked with a snap.

Kylie walked to the side to make a call before the beginning of her next scene.

“Honey, do you like the gift?” The voice on the other end was at ease.

“Fuck! I could ruin you!” Kylie swears back like a firework.

“You finally want to fuck me. I really should have sent you a rose every day, and our child would be running by now.”

“Forget it! What do you mean by doing this?”

“I mean what I said, but you can save the hard work for a man, and just wait to be fucked,” said the voice on the other end.

“How dare you! Aren’t you afraid I’ll cut your manhood off!” Kylie clenched her teeth in anger.

He continued: “Anyway, the man you love doesn’t love you. The woman I love doesn’t love me. Why don’t we just give this a try?”

“If you dare approach me again, I’ll fuck with your whole family!”

The man, on the other end, suddenly smiled. “I know that you want to fuck me. I’m the only one in my family that you haven’t fucked yet. When do you plan to fuck me then?”

“What?” Kylie was surprised this time.

“My mom said that if I can’t have you as my wife as soon as possible, she’d die before my eyes…” the man added, sadly.

Kylie hung up the phone with a snap. That asshole! A big-sized dog abruptly rushed towards her, nearly knocking over a few actors on the way. The dog ran straight to Kylie, with something in his mouth.

“Pupu!” Kylie squatted with a grin and took the package from him. “You’re my favorite.”

The makeup artist’s jaw fell open with amazement. No matter how expensive the iced coffee had been, or how shiny the rose had been, Kylie was now at her happiest, eating the bread that Pupu had brought. This born foodie had been starving to death.

She took several bites, then shared a piece with Pupu, who stayed by her feet.

Aiden stared at the dog and evilly glared.

Chapter 45: Do You Feel Sorry For Him?

The makeup artist had finished his work, saying politely to Kylie: “It’s done. You can go shoot now.”

“Thank you.” Kylie took a look at herself with satisfaction and turned towards the set.

Khloe followed. “This time, it’s about breaking off relationships. We can use forced perspective,” Director Johnson explained to them.

Then he addressed Khloe: “You can raise your palm up like this, but don’t literally hit Kylie.” Khloe nodded with a smile.

“I understand,” she said. Director Johnson walked back to his cameras. Khloe was dressed in colorful and luxurious clothing and waited in the garden, while Kylie trotted towards her. Kylie, in character, hesitated. “I need to talk to you.”

“Don’t you dare talk to me in this way!” Khloe abruptly turned around, becoming Angela Ruiz. Her face was full of anger, which was a total transformation from her previously kind and mild image. Kylie was distracted for a second, then spoke her line: “Do I have to marry the tea businessman to save the Ruiz Family? Can’t I make these decisions for myself?”

“Make your own decisions? So you can decide to marry a gangster?” Khloe clenched her teeth, with apparent disdain.

“I would rather do that then marry an old man who could die tomorrow! You’d love to be someone’s mistress, but I’d hate it!”

Khloe raised her hand. “You…”

She was supposed to stop there, but her growing jealousy of Kylie wouldn’t allow it. Khloe lost control. But luckily, Kylie was mentally and physically agile enough to avoid Khloe’s hand. “I’m so sorry, Director.” Khloe immediately put on her nervous, delicate mask. “I was so wrapped up in the role that I lost control. Kylie, are you all right?”

“Cut!” The director glanced at the camera. “Khloe Finch, you can go calm down now. Kylie, your close-up is next.”

“Sure,” Khloe replied in a mumble. As she walked by, Kylie sneered: “Let’s see how long you can pretend.” She knew that Khloe had done it on purpose.

“Be prepared,” Director Johnson reminded her. Kylie nodded and immediately immersed herself in the role. Kylie’s face on the screen became bigger and clearer. She pressed her lips and expressed unutterable grievances with her eyes. Every detail of her face was vivid and touching.

“Even though you hit me, I’ll still marry the man I love over a man who is rich.” Kylie looked determined and portrayed the role so well. The camera had captured an emotional close-up of Kylie’s face. Director Johnson was deeply moved and pleased. He believed in Kylie’s talent and thought her very promising.

“Perfect!” Director Johnson called a cut. He was very excited about this close-up and turned to Khloe: “It’s your turn.” Kylie wrapped up her shooting with forced perspectives. Director Johnson looked at the screen and nodded in a super content manner. “Excellent,” he said. Kylie stepped away from the set. Cliff, who had suddenly appeared beside the director, stood up and applauded her. He was important in the entertainment industry and winner of the Best Actor. Everyone suddenly began to applaud, under his guidance.

“Cliff, what do you think?” Julian was proud. Nobody could read Cliff’s expression because of his big sunglasses, but his grin answered everything.

“If only my co-actor were so able.” Kylie bowed and thanked everybody. Then she walked towards Cliff and nodded politely.

“Thank you so much for your approval.”

“I like to tell the truth.” It was a compliment but took on a more serious aspect when the smile on Cliff’s face faded away. But it had looked real, and Kylie wore a faint smile in response. Kylie had finished her part and had found herself a shadowy place in which to take a break. Kylie had scarcely sat down when she saw Khloe looking in her direction, while she talked on a phone that Lucas had handed her.

Khloe hung up the phone and rushed towards Kylie. “Kylie Finch, don’t push me so hard!” Geez, Khloe was even using her full name. Kylie glanced at Khloe’s back. Aiden had disappeared, which explained why she was suddenly her usual rude self.

“What are you looking at? I’m talking to you.” Khloe bit her lip.

“My cousin hasn’t actually caused you any real harm. Why do you treat him like that?!” Oh, this was in regards to the accident… Kylie had been in a drunk daze that day, but she still remembered that Lord Ethan had had a call in the car. He had ordered someone to punish Ken White.

Kylie didn’t know what he would do to punish Ken, but it wasn’t going to be simple. “Do you feel sorry for him?” Kylie smiled mildly. “What’s my family name?”

Khloe was a little confused by this question. “Finch?” she replied. “Yep.” Kylie raised herself up from the ground and calmly stared at Kylie.

“So don’t expect me to be the Virgin Mary…” Khloe was stunned.

***

“What are you doing here?” Ethan indifferently watched the uninvited man standing in his President’s Office. Nate beamed airily and grabbed a chair to sit on the other side of the table.

“Lord Ethan, I have something very important to tell you!” Ethan pressed his lips together with impatience. Nate leaned across the table. “I have fresh news from Baleney. Someone sent Kylie some expensive gifts.” Ethan remained expressionless, but his eyes became cold. “Lord Ethan, you let Pupu go with Kylie, which is a good idea. But Pupu isn’t the man who’d send her a car of iced coffee, or a diamond rose…” Ethan was irritated, and the atmosphere of the President’s Office was unpleasant. “Who’s behind it?” Ethan glanced at Nate with iciness. Nate hit the table and suddenly stood up.

“That’s what I want to tell you! I’ve assigned my fellow to investigate the diamond rose stored in Citibank. As to who’s behind that, the source is still unclear. Lord Ethan looks like you have an equal enemy now.” Ethan’s eyes sharpened. Who on earth would dare to steal his woman? Nate was getting bored of standing, so he sat down again. He had poured so much information out, but Ethan hadn’t done or said anything; he didn’t even look extremely displeased. Did he really not care about the woman he’d married; was the whole thing simply a way to fulfill his task?

“Lord Ethan, in my opinion, Kylie is not a common woman. Someone must be helping her so that she can live a good life since she left the Finch Family. Have you heard any gossip about her? If so…” Nate added, meaningfully.

“You can fuck off now.” Ethan stood up and walked to the wide French window, a cigarette dangling from his mouth. He lit it up and took a deep breath. Everyone had a history, and he does have too.
