Ch. 251..260
Chapter 251
"Okayy.. here’s the bottle. I’ve been saving up buy this. One shot of this cost 300 in bars." Ann said as she returned to the dinning room before taking a seat next to John, swishing her hair to the side.
"Ah... Macallan." Jephthah narrowed his eyes as he read it off the bottle before drawing back with a small smile.
"Why were you saving up to buy for it when your weekly pay can buy like a dozen?" Talia asked curiously. She was so calm and composed, acting like nothing happened few minutes ago; you wouldn’t know the agonizing pain and desire she was suppressing.
"I’m not an extravagant spending type, okay? I just like saving to but irrelevant expensive things like this bottle of wine here that cost almost a hundred thousand."
But at least she was better off than John who was experiencing hell as he sat there, swallowing often to wet his parched throat, drinking glass of water like a fish as if he was hoping it would extinguish the firy desire rising up in his body.
He had kept his eyes trained on his food, ensuring he didn’t glance up because Talia was sitting right Infront of him, and he knew if he even made the slightest eyes contact with her, he wouldn’t be able to hold back.
Talia was a gorgeous woman and John knew gorgeous when he saw one. He had seen many women in his entire life time, but Talia was simply out of this world beautiful. She wasn’t as curvaceous as most women, but she was incredibly sexy.
He was attracted to her as a guy would to a beautiful woman, but when he noticed Jephthah and she had something going on, he respectfully backed away.
He would never stoop low to even dream about him and Talia doing anything behind his twin brother’s back.
And now, he’s suddenly found out that she’s his fated mate.
There was only two things John was scared of in life.
1) Getting a woman pregnant.
2) And Jeremy.
Jephtaph’s wolf had to be the most dangerous being to ever exist. Talia didn’t just know who she was mated to. Probably because she usually saw the sweet side of Jephtaph. If she actually saw Jeremy take over him, she would keep her distance when he was angry.
He was a monster, and John was sure he only got over protective when he and Talia became mates.
He had thought back to their conversation Earlier in Dark Risers’s pack and how Jephthah had completely avoided the topic of them having Talia as mates.
He said he didn’t mind if he was also mated to Talia, but John knew his brother. Jephthah will kill him once he learns of this. He wasn’t the type to share, and definitely not Talia.
"Are you sure you should be drinking?" He heard someone ask and he glanced up to see Jephthah and Talia staring intently at each other.
On seeing the genuine love and care in their eyes as they stared at each other, for he first time, he felt an empty feeling in his heart, almost like part of it was ripped out.
He didn’t know why he had this feeling, but since it was his first time, his heart hurt so much and he couldn’t do anything but glance down again.
"A glass would be fine." Talia managed a smile and watched as Jephthah filled a glass for her and one for himself.
"Are you drinking John? You’ve been odly quiet." Jephthah asked with a smile, but it died down when he felt a pang of pain across his heart as he made eye contact with his twin.
John forced a smile and reached for the bottle despite noticing Jephthah had his eyes on him.
"What’s there to talk about?" He asked as he filled a glass for himself before filling a glass for Ann who mumbled a thanks before she resumed eating.
"Seriously? You and Talia would be chatting each other’s head off the dinning table by now."
Ann perked up.
"Really? Come to think of it, you’ve barely said a full sentence Talia... " Ann added, narrowing her eyes at her.
Talia and John suddenly glanced up and when they made eye contact, they both said in unision.
"I have to use the restroom."
There was silence as Jephthah and Ann stared at them both like they were crazy while Talia and John stared at each other in horror.
Wouldn’t their odd behavior give them away?
But before anyone could say anything or react further, Talia went upstairs.
"John, are you okay?"
John managed a smile before retreating.
"Yeah. I’m fine." He then ran upstairs leaving Ann and Jephthah alone.
"I guess more wine for us then." Ann said, already filling another glance for herself with a smile on her face.
Jephthah smiled.
Not for once did he think whatever was happening was something between Talia and John. He didn’t even bother to know why they suddenly wanted to go to the rest room at the same time.
He knew if John wanted to do anything behind his back, it meant he wanted to hurt him.
Which meant John was willing to hurt his brother or in another case, John wanted to die.
*
Talia splashed some water on her face with shaky hands after taking deep breaths. When she glanced up, she saw her mascara had begun drooping over her eyes.
"F*ck it." She sighed, pulling out a roll of tissue paper and wiping her face with it until her face was spotless; clean from a single speck of make up.
She drew the scrunchie in her hair, and as she raked her fingers through her hair that tussled down her shoulders like a silky curtain, the door suddenly burst open and John stepped in.
Her jaw dropped as she saw the intense look he shot at her as he shut the door behind him.
"No... " She whispered, moving steps back as he approached her, but he quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her in by the waist before slamming her back at the door, cornering her immediately.
Everything he did was within the space of half a second, using his inhuman speed.
Talia groaned as she felt the pain at her back, but she swallowed, eyes wide in horror as she felt John breathing down her neck.
His eyes were blood red, and she turned to the side as she felt his cannines graze over her skin.
"John." She called in a shaky voice, her hands braced behind her on the door as she shut her eyes tightly.
Moon goddess knows how badly she wanted him to mark her, how the urge of wanting him grew by each second the proximity of their closeness shortened, but she still felt this was wrong.
She couldn’t bear his mark when Jephthah’s mark was on her neck already.
It felt too wrong.
"John." Her voice turned firm this time as she turned to lock eyes with him. "Think about Jephthah... " He narrowed his eyes at her like he was seeing her for tht first time.
"Please... " She pleaded, forcing herself to look away yet her eyes were locked in his as she waited for it to clear and turn back to violet.
"I... " his voice was strained and Talia’s heart ached because she could feel his pain and agony, and without thinking she softly landed a hand at the side of his cheek as she waited for him to turn to normal, and in less than seconds he did, his eyes turning violet as he blinked repeatedly.
There was silence as he glanced down without a word, leaning into her touch.
Suddenly he caught her wrist in the air and threw it down; away from his face before stepping back. He didn’t know why he was angry, but he was angry at himself and for what he tried to do.
"Why are you mad now?" Talia pushed herself off the door, walking towards him with a fierce look in her eyes. "I’m not the one who almost tried to mark his brother’s mate "
He growled as he turned to approach her and she held his gaze, stepping back from him with caution.
"You make it seem like I was about to commit an abomination when we both know we feel the mate bond... we feel the pull, and you’re acting like it’s not bothering you when you know it is."
She avoided his eyes.
"I’ll reject you... and end this." He said, his eyes still fixed on her face despite the fact that she avoided his gaze.
However, at his words, she raised her head quickly like she was snapped out of a trance.
"You can?"
He nodded, swallowing hard.
"Well... " her look turned probing. "Do it. Reject me."
John felt that stinging feeling in his heart again on hearing her words. Without hesitation she asked to be rejected.
How stupid of him to think she would be reluctant since she also felt the mate bond pull, but it looked like she really just wanted Jephthah and Jephthah alone and didn’t care what happened to him or how hurt he’ll feel naturally from rejecting his mate.
"Do it." Talia insisted when he hesistated a bit.
"Oh. yeah. sure." He shook his head, pretending like he got lost in thought and the idea of rejecting his mate didn’t bother him in the slightest.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and the two froze on hearing Jephthah’s voice outside.
"Hey Talia, you sure you’re okay? You’ve been in there for quite a long time. I was starting to get worried."
Due to shock, they were unable to say anything. However, Talia almost felt her legs give way on hearing his voice again.
"I’m coming in."
Chapter 252
Talia’s eyes widened as the door was pushed open, and John quickly moved into a cubicle in the restroom, stilling his breath while watching them from the key hole
As he walked in, Talia quickly stood up on her toes, grabbed his arm and yanked him down, kissing him, taking him completely off guard.
"Talia." Jephthah’s voice was muffled, but he still pulled her in by the waist.
John felt that constructing pain in his chest watching them, but it doesn’t last because the next second she grabs his hand and leads him out the door.
Once they were out, John fell back against the wall of the cubicles and released a slow sigh.
"So close."
*
The first ray of sun light shone on his face, walking him up, but as he raised his head, Theresa was fully dressed sitting at the edge of the bed, dragging her boots up her leg with her hair cut short on her head.
His eyes narrowed down a bit on seeing her, but when he glanced around the expensive motel room they were in, his expression darkened and he briefly sat up up.
"I thought you’d never wake up." Theresa jokingly said, but Andrew doesn’t reply. He was still angry with what she did yesterday, and the fact that she had almost completely run his credit card dry was still unforgivable.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and Theresa went to open it, and with how long she chatted with the security room attendant at the door, he wondered when they knew each other.
However, she ended up with his phone, and was already on the bed dialing a number as Andrew put on his clothes.
"Hey. It’s Theresa."
Angela perked up.
"Where are you? I’m heading out now."
Theresa ran her hands through her hair as she mentioned her location and when she was done, Andrew spoke up immediately, like he was waiting for her to be done.
"Today is the last day right?" Andrew persistently insisted and she glanced up at him. "Once your friend arrives to come pick you up, you’ll give me my keys and card and leave me alone."
"I always keep my word Andrew " She whispered with a smile and he swallowed, not sure if he should trust a psychopath.
Finally, his eyes lowered and landed on the phone in her hand.
"Do you think I could make a call with the phone? Just a short phone call. It really won’t take much of your time. I want to talk to my sister." Andrew tried his luck by pleading, but Theresa surprisingly handed it to him, watching with a smirk on her face when the phone landed on his hand unexpectedly and he just stared blankly at her.
"You’re acting like this is the first time this has happened?"
"Yes it is... you’re usually a jerky psychopathic." Andrew admitted and she just smirked with a strange glint in her eyes without a word.
He turned away from her and dialed his sister’s number.
"Hello.. who’s this?" He heard her say in a tentative voice over the phone.
He rolled his eyes.
Her voice was pretty decent for someone who yelled at him over the phone all the time.
"It’s Andrew." He curtly said.
"Andrew... " Suddenly she burst into tears and for some reason he felt his heart clench in an indescribable pain hearing her cry over the phone. He had seen her cry quite a few times, but she had never cried over the phone.
"Ashley why are... "
"You don’t know how worried we’ve been. I were on our way to make a report in the police station. We had to gather up all the money we’ve saved in the house to make the reports."
Andrew sighed, holding his forehead like he was suppressing a headache.
"Have you made the reports?"
"No.. "
"Then stay home."
"But .. "
"But nothing... I’m safe. I’m fine and I’ll be at home in the next one hour.. "
She suddenly broke down again and he rolled his eyes, not wanting her tears to get to him in the slightest.
"T- they dropped in a mail yesterday... "
Andrew narrowed his eyes, not saying a word, a cue for his sister to continue.
"Your university kicked you out... "
Andrew leaped off the bed, on his feet in seconds as he gripped the phone tighter.
"What!"
Theresa who had been studying him, narrowed her eyes sharply on sensing something was definitely wrong with how he had leaped off the bed.
"You know you were previously owing during second semester of your first year? Yeah well... when your grades started getting bad, they decided to kick you out."
Andrew was actually on a part time scholarship. The school only paid his tuition while he paid the rest, and now, they just felt the need to kick him out. Did they think acting the role of a father, husband, brother and student all at once was easy?
"And Andrew... " She sniffed. "Mum’s sick.. "
Andrew’s shoulder’s sagged hearing her words.
"She needs some drugs but her condition is getting worse each day. She was rushed to the hospital last night and ... and she needs to be operated on, but they’re calling some ridiculous amount of money we don’t have now... we’re consider selling the store. I’ve already found the buyers and they’re coming in today... "
Andrew felt years pool in his eyes hearing her words, and without realizing it he lashed out at her.
"You’re willing to sell the one thing that brings food to out table. Are you just dunce or ignorant."
"But mum... "
"We’ll figure something out. Even we have to use all my savings for school. It’s not like it’s useful any more."
"But it’s not enough."
"You know.. that’s my problem with you and mum. You never think whatever I do is enough. I have tried all my years to ensure you all live a comfortable life, but itt. doesn’t get easier with you two treating me like some maid. Dad died when we were 12. I started a part time job at the store. I had to write college entrance exams from home because I couldn’t afford to go school alongside you! I started riding dad’s pick up truck at sixteen. When I was supposed to be enjoying my teens, I sacrificed all that for you and mum! I lost friends... because I was focused on school and work. And now mum’s dying and... " Tears began dropping from him eyes and he sat down heavily on the bed while Theresa just sat there staring at him in shock.
There was a nagging feeling in her chest she hated because it hurt her and caused tears to unknowingly pool in her eyes.
"I don’t want to loose mum." Andrew finally said, shutting his eyes. "I don’t want to loose both my parents... "
Ashley was speechless over the phone, unable to say a word, guilt eating her up at every single word Andrew threw at her pieced her heart in different dimensions.
"Me too.. " She finally whispered, closing her eyes as she felt her twin brother’s pain.
After a while of silence, Andrew wiped his nose and face.
"Send in your bank details and I’ll send everything I have left in my account and ... if you check up in my room, underneath a loose plank board under my bed, you’ll see the documents of the land where the store was built."
Theresa’s eyes widened on hearing his words. He was really selling the store. She had never witnessed someone do something so selfless in her entire life.
"Thank you Andrew..." Ashley said, tears of guilt pooling in her eyes when she realized he was selling the store.
As Andrew was about to end the call, she spoke up.
"And I love you... you’ve been the best big brother I could ever ask for and mum really is proud of you. We don’t say it alot, but... whenever we do.. we really mean it."
There was silence as Andrew soaked her words in, feeling a slight feeling in his chest on hearing her words.
"I love you too Ashley." He said before tossing the phone aside and holding his head like it was threatening to fall off his neck.
There was silence for a whole hour as they waited for Angela, no one saying a single word. Andrew had ended up sleeping with tears streaked on his face while Theresa watched him.
He was just a kid.
She thought as she stared at his slim, bony frame curled into a ball as he slept.
Suddenly the phone rings again and they turn to the phone simultaneously since the ringtones snapped him out of sleep.
On seeing the name Angela written across, he fell back on the bed and let Theresa take it, feeling very exhausted.
He didn’t even know what to do when he got home. He felt so exhausted. What college will suddenly take him in and agree to pay his tuition. He’ll have to write the college entrance exams again because he couldn’t afford to pay the whole fees for college.
Even if he got into school, how was he supposed to maintain paying his fees when the store would be sold.
He just felt tired of everything.
"I’m outside." Angela replied.
"Okay. I’ll be out in a minute."
As Theresa got up, buckling her pants, she turned to him after her hand already closed over the door knob to leave.
"Come... let’s go."
He waved.
"You can go... I’ll leave when I want to."
"No... I mean... come with me."
Chapter 253
They stared at each other for a couple of seconds before he turned away from her.
"Haven’t you used me enough already?"
"So where are you going to after I leave?" Theresa probed, folding her arms.
"Home." His answer was curt and short.
"Home? You mean where no one is? Your mother is practically on her death bed in the hospital, and your sister’s out there selling the only thing left for you of your dad without batting an eye lid. Is that a home?"
"Well, at least it’s better than staying around someone who only kept me alive because she wanted to drain my bank account "
Theresa smirked.
"Darling, I could have just killed you and taken your card all the same. You’re basically a school drop out now, and the only means you put food down on your table will be sold off in the next hour, probably for a worthless price, and you know how this keeps getting funny? It won’t be enough to pay for your mother’s hospital bills and you know that... "
Andrew sat up and glared at her.
"You’re sick."
Theresa’s angry brows cleared and she shot him a surprised look.
"You motherf*cking sick pedophile." As he said each word, he got up and shortened the distance between them. "You’re enjoying this aren’t you? You’re basking in the sunset of my downfall."
"Oh." Was all she said, then she smirked and it infuriated him the more.
"I was just trying to help.. but since it seems I’m of no use, I’ll take my leave now " As she made to leave, holding onto the door knob again, she heard his voice.
"Wait .. "
The smirk on her face broadened but she didn’t turn, only pausing in the act of opening the door.
"What do you mean?"
She finally turned to him.
"I want you to be my assistant."
He grew confused.
"You know what I’m capable of, so I don’t need to tell you what my job is. I got offered a job and it pays really well... and if you help me, I’ll pay you... "
"You want me to be a side kick" He grew disgusted. "... And help you end innocent people’s lives? Did you really think I’d readily accept it because it concerns money."
"I’m not asking you a favor, Andrew. You’re in need of money for your mother’s treatment, and I’ve accessed you... So far, you’re smart, got the perfect body build, and you’d make a great assistant... I won’t force you to accept it or not."
There was silence as they just stared at each other, but she finally turned around and left, shutting the door behind her.
Once the door closed, Andrew returned to the bed and sat down, twisting his hair in his hands bundled up like a fist.
He would stare at the door which shut minutes ago before glancing down. He did this repeatedly until he got up and headed for the door, but on touching the door knob, he froze.
*
"Talk about handsome... " Angela’s jaw dropped on seeing Theresa as she casually got into the car. "You wanted to look different or something?"
"It’s a long story... " Theresa chuckled.
"You can tell me all about it on the way." Angela said as she starts the car, but Theresa suddenly said.
"Let’s wait for a minute.. "
"Huh- Why?"
Theresa just stared out the window. There was no sign of someone leaving the motel, but her eyes didn’t leave the spot.
"Just a minute, and we’ll leave."
Angela was confused, but she did as she was told, leaning into her seat to stare out the same window as Theresa.
Ten seconds to a minute, a boy stepped out of the motel and began heading straight for their car on seeing Theresa.
He was lean and had gorgeous features, but he looked like he would be better off eating more.
Without a word, Andrew got into the back seat of the car and his eyes met Theresa’s in the rear view mirror as she smiled at him.
Angela noticed what was going on.
"You have only been out of jail for a day and you’ve already found a new boy toy... "
As she began driving out, Theresa laughed while Andrew couldn’t help the blood rushing to his face.
"I’m not her boy toy." He denied.
"You certainly look like her kind of guys. Lean, naive looking... just like Jephthah."
"No one is Jephthah." Andrew heard Theresa say in a serious tone and he swore he saw a glint of obsession in her eyes.
He swallowed, wondering if he made the right decision.
"By the way... I heard he’s in Paris with his girlfriend. I don’t know when he’s returning, but it’s pretty much a honeymoon if you know what I mean." Angela said.
Andrew turned panicky when he heard what she said, turning to Theresa, wondering if she was going to throw a fit and just let them die in a car accident, but she just smirked as she got the cigarettes and lighter in the car compartment before casually lighting one.
"Paris huh?" She blew in the air and he watched smoke spiral from her mouth and nose. It was so damn attractive, she caught him giving her an intense stare before smirking again as he turned away with a redenned face.
"You want one?" She asked him, turning to stare at him.
He shook his head.
"I.. I don’t smoke"
"Ahh. So cute." Angela exclaimed, and Andrew blushed profusely. Why did it feel like he was the girl here?
"Where’s your car?" Theresa asked him as she turned forward to resume smoking.
"I borrowed a phone at the reception and told my sister to come pick it up. The keys’s with the receptionist."
"Is he like your assistant or something? You think A would let him in on our plans?"
"Who’s A?" Andrew asked, feeling he had nothing to loose for being too curious.
"Our boss."
"You mean ’Your’ Boss" Theresa retorted. "She didn’t bail me out of prison."
"But she’ll pay you."
"She’ll pay me when I’ve done whatever shitty work she wants me to do, but she won’t pay me to travel to Paris."
Angela smirked, and Andrew couldn’t tell who was more psychopathic.
"I thought the idea of Jephthah staying there didn’t bother you."
"It’s the fact that he’s with a woman... that’s what bothers me."
"You should know her... "
"I don’t care."
"Her name is Talya. She’s actually Late Beta Damien’s daughter. From Blood Moon’s pack."
"Talya? You mean... the model from Golden Elites?" Andrew suddenly said.
"You know her?" Theresa asked, clearly surprised.
"Who doesn’t? She’s a world wide sensational sweetheart." Angela said in amusement, her eyes darkening when she remembered her last encounter with Talia.
"I don’t know her." Theresa’s voice was gruff.
"You’ve been in jail for ten years... of course you wouldn’t." Andrew muttered under his breath.
"He’s not only cute, he’s got a sharp tongue to go with it... " Angela mentioned and when Andrew glanced up, he saw a dark look in Theresa’s eyes fixed on him and he quickly glanced down.
*
"Did you see John on your way to the restroom?" Jephthah turned to Talia with an inquisitive gaze.
Talia glanced down her food as she shook her head, trying to steady her heart pace from beating too fast so as not to make Jephthah suspicious.
"John’s been acting strange all night. First he doesn’t say a word during dinner, and he just leaves for the restroom and doesn’t return after an hour.." Jephthah noted and Talia swallowed.
Ann hummed as she dropped her cultlerires
"He was never this way when we were alone. However, there was this strange behavior he exacted seconds before Talia walked in.. "
Talia’s face turned to one of horror . Ann innocently explained what had happened, but she wasn’t a werewolf, and Jephthah will be quick enough to figure out what was going on.
"What do you mean?"
Talia suddenly knocked down a glass of water all over her gown and abruptly stood up, gasping as she felt the cold liquid run down her thighs.
"Sh*t" She swore, already using a napkin to wipe the front of her gown.
Jephthah shot his girlfriend a look before turning to Ann who was already on her feet to help her friend.
"Ann, I think it’s time Talia and I leave."
Talia glanced up and saw the glint in his Jephthah’s eyes as he stared at her and she unknowingly gulped.
"Um... okay." Ann stared confusedly at the two, wondering why Jephthah’s mood changed all of a sudden.
However, before she could say a word, Jephthah grabbed Talia by the wrists and dragged her away, and she followed them from behind, watching as he led Talia into the car and the couple got in.
She waved as the car zoomed off, but after it did, she quickly went upstairs to check up on John.
There was silence as Talia just sat there In the air conditioneed car, biting her lower lip as she stared out her window.
"What were you and John doing in the bathroom before I arrived?"
It was like her heart stopped beating for a full minute as she snapped her head towards him on hearing his question.
Chapter 254
Talia’s jaw was still lowered as she stared at him with a horrified expression.
"I asked you if you saw John on your way to the bathroom... Talia" There was a pained expression in his eyes as he stared ahead. "You lied to me."
She shook her head.
"No, Jephthah. Look, I can explain. It’s not what you think... "
"And then you knock over the glass of water and acted like it was unintentional..."
She was about to speak, but he suddenly turned the steering wheel to the right abruptly and the tyres swerved, screeching on the ground before making a sharp stop on the side of the road.
Talia gasped, holding onto dear life before the car made its abrupt stop.
"Why did you lie?" He calmly asked, staring straight at her with his incredibly gorgeous violet eyes which looked so intensely into hers that she forgot how to breath for a couple seconds.
"I... actually... it’s..." She turned speechless, not knowing what to tell him. How would she even? Hey Jephthah, just found out your twin brother’s also my mate? She didn’t even knew how he’d react.
"I don’t know... " She shook her head, sadly dropping her eyes. "I don’t know how to say this."
Jephthah reached forward and tilted her chin so that she was peering into his eyes and he stared back unblinkingly.
"Talia, I trust you... "
Talia grabbed his hand tilting up her chin and slowly dropped it into her other hand so that she was cradling the hand with two of hers as she held their gaze.
"And you should... because it’s not what you think. I just... " She bit her lower lip before pushing it out with a defeated look in her eyes. "... Can’t tell you."
"And I’m guessing John’s not willing to say anything then, right?" There was a pained smile on Jephthah’s face as he abruptly drew back his hand, not noticing the hurt look in her eyes.
"It’s nothing serious... really Jephthah."
"Then why can’t you tell me? Any rational guy will think it’s sus when he finds out his girlfriend and brother were in the bathroom together. You were fine until after Ann helped me get my phone out of that compartment; leaving you two alone, and that was when all this began. You and John didn’t say a single word during dinner, and suddenly, you two want to go to the bathroom together and then... "
Talia’s eyes widened when she saw Jephthah’s breaths rising and falling abnormally as he talked with shaking fingers, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"You said you trusted me." One lone tear dropped from her right eye and traced her high cheek bones before trailing down her cheeks to her jaw.
Jephthah took a deep, shaky breath before gripping the steering wheel, and Talia imagined he was holding onto it for last bit of rational thinking, lest he yelled at her.
"If you had a sister, and you find out that we were in the bathroom together, and worse, I even lie about the fact that we were together.... how would you feel?"
"Okay.. it’s a misunderstanding... I get it"
"You don’t get it." He suddenly slammed a fist on the wheel and Talia’s eyes grew wide in shock. "You and John have been acting weird, and it’s driving me crazy because I feel you two are hiding something from me."
Talia became scared seeing him this way, so she began speed dialing John without letting him know. He might be able to calm Jephthah down, and he better come down fast, because she didn’t understand why he was overreacting.
Besides, she was running out of excuses to tell him, and she knew they wouldn’t leave this spot until she spilled out what was wrong, so he might as well be here too.
"It’s normal for couples to keep things from every now and then Jephthah. You don’t have to know every single detail about my life. You trust me, and you know I can never stab you behind your back, and so what if John and I were in the bathroom together? Were we f*cking?"
He turned to her and she saw his eyes were blood red.
Sh*t
Actually the left was violet and the other was red, which meant Jeremy wasn’t in total control yet.
He swung at her, and she shut her eyes tightly, her phone dropping to the floor, only to hear a crash beside her head.
Cautiously opening her eyes, she turned slightly to the left, and internally screamed on seeing that his hand had gone through the glass window and his skin had torn off in several places and was bleeding.
"Why are you mad? Don’t tell me you aren’t keeping things from me too, Jephthah?" Talia lifted her chin slightly to match with his temperamental behavior.
If she showed the slightest hint of fear, he’ll use it to his advantage, and she couldn’t risk Jeremy biting her head off.
"Don’t bullsh*t me Talia, you’re avoiding my question... "
"And you have been avoiding mine." She shot at him, her eyes creased when she frowned deeply. "So since this is what it’s come to, this is how’s going to be. You tell me what you’ve been hiding from me, and I’ll tell you mine."
There was suddenly a loud thud on the ground which shook the car, startling the two who were in the car, finally realizing that they were being cornered to one side of it, specifically Talia’s side (Passenger’s seat).
Jephthah’s eyes returned to violet as he grew apprehensive on hearing footsteps close to the car.
"John." Talia whispered without having to lift her head or look at who had come. She didn’t expect he’d come, infact she had barely said a word when her phone was knocked out of her hand after Jephthah’s hand went through the glass, but she could tell it was him by his scent and the quickening desire rising in her system.
John drew the door open from the back, and with how dishelveled and rough he looked, it seemed like he had run here hysterically, and there was horrifying look in his eyes.
"Talia, are you okay?"
"What are you doing here?" Jephthah turned to him with brows raised, not moving an inch from where he had Talia cornered to the side of the car with his bleeding hands braced at the sides of her head.
"I called him here." Talia quickly said before things got out of hand. With the bloodshot look in his eyes, it looked like he was ready to leap on his brother.
"Why? You didn’t have any other lies to tell me, so you called him to help you out, right?"
"No... I was scared." Her voice trembled and tears began rolling her eyes as she turned her head to the side, feeling her heart ache on recountering how scary and nerve wracking he looked a couple minutes ago.
On hearing she was scared of him, hurt scalded his heart like a burn mark, and in anger, he punched the other side beside her head and Talia gasped, feeling her soul leave her body on hearing glass shatter again.
Chapter 255
"Jephthah stop, you’re scaring her!" John pulled him by the colar and dragged him out the car, but Jephthah threw a fist at him, eyes glinting red and John skillfully dodged it.
Unfortunately, Jephthah probably predicted his move and threw another punch the next second, and John ended up staggering backwards while grabbing onto his chin.
"Go back home, John."
John moved his jaw to and fro, trying to adjust to the pain, but he didn’t move from his spot, watching as Jephthah’s camly got back into the car and began brushing small shards of glass off Talia’s shoulders while she stared warily at him.
"Did you tell him?" John suddenly asked outloud, turning to Talia.
Talia froze. She lifted her head and gave him a look which said ’Why the hell are you talking??’
But Jephthah saw the look, and paused in picking shards of glass off her body, realization dawning on him that they really were hiding something.
"What is he talking about?"
"I haven’t." Talia snapped, her eyes darkening in anger as she stared at John, wondering what he was up to.
"Then why are you over reacting? Why are you scaring her? Why did you have to hit me? Are you a f*cking as*hole?" John calmly asked, not even flinching when Jephthah leaned back before climbing out the car again to stand so he could see John and Talia at the same time.
"It’s either one of you talk right now or... I swear... "
"Will you hit me again? Or will you hit Talia instead." John retorted and Talia’s eyes grew wide when the brothers faced each other squarely with their hands turned into fists.
She quickly scrambled out of the car, her heels peeling off, leaving her feet bare, but she still managed to stand in between the two brothers, spreading her hands wide to lengthen the distance between them.
Her hair was disheveled, and the wind blew west on the quiet, abandoned road, dishelveling their hair more, causing small strands to fly over their eyes.
"We’ll tell you... just stop this..." She turned to John before turning back to her boyfriend. "You two. Stop. You’re brothers."
"A brother who hits the other for stopping him from murdering his girlfriend is no brother of mine."
"I would never hurt Talia, idiot. Don’t think you did me a favor."
"You two are seriously acting so immature right now... " Talia began mumbling, but she froze on hearing John’s next words.
He had a smug look as he stared straight at Jephthah’s eyes without batting an eye lid.
"I just found out that Talia and I are mates... " The fierce look in Jephtaph’s eyes disappeared in a nano second, and it bore one of confusion as his gaze moved from Talia to John and back again. "You know how I said we might end up having the same girl as mates in the future?"
"John... " Talia starts calling pleadingly, a sign for him to stop, but John ignored her and even pulled her so that she was in his arms while his hands were securely bound around her waist.
She was in complete shock, but before she could move, she noted the furious, burning, hurt gaze in Jephthah’s eyes as he stared at them both like they had betrayed them, and every ounce of strength in her evaporated like a drop of water in a dessert.
"Well, turns out that I wasn’t kidding... At all." John finishes.
There was a brief noise of the car keys dropping to the ground as Jephthah abruptly stepped away from the two like he was In disbelief and shock.
"Jephthah..." Talia pulled away from John’s grip, leaving him hanging as she chose to grab Jephthah’s arm instead.
"He were planning on rejecting me earlier...we just didn’t want to tell you... " She pleaded, and the two failed to notice the hurt look in John’s eyes when she said those words without hesitation.
"Are you stupid?" Jephthah was referring to John. "Do you realize if you had rejected her, you’d cut her off from me too? Since you’re so smart, why didn’t you think of this?"
"What?" Talia’s lips trembled slightly. "H- how can it be. I don’t understand."
"What’s there to understand?" He chuckled painfully. "All’s left is for him to mark you, and perform the other necessary rites... he’s your mate after all Talia." He sounded pained and hurt.
"We don’t have to be close.. we don’t even love each other" She turned to John who quickly comcelead the pain in his eyes with indifference. "Right John?"
He nodded, his throat too constricted to form words.
"Bullsh*t" Jephthah moved away from her grip, leaving her hanging. "It’s the mate bond, created to perfection by the Moon goddess herself. You two are bound to fall in love "
"You’re making it sound like it’s her fault." John shortened the distance between them, and Talia felt wary and cautious when she realized she was between the two men who looked like they wanted to rip each other into shreds. "It’s neither of ours and you know that. I didn’t even expect I’d come here on a business trip only to find out she’s my f*cking mate okay?"
"I have shared a lot of things with you In the past John, but I cannot let you have Talia."
And that was when Talia saw the hurt look in John’s eyes flash quickly before disappearing as he shrugged nonchalantly like the thought of loosing his mate didn’t bother him.
Guilt overrrided her other emotions as she stared at him with tears welling up in her eyes, but she turned away form him, hoping that maybe after a few days she’ll get over it and hope he moves on.
After all, he was bound to find more women to warm his bed up to forget her, so why not do the same.
"Get in the car." Jephthah said to her, and she complied, lowering her eyes to the ground.
Once she did, she shut the door, wondering what Ann’s reaction would be to the smashed up glass windows.
Jephthah turned to John.
There were silent unspoken words between them as he quietly turned away to get into the car and drive off, leaving John to stare after the vehiy like he was lost in a dream.
The guilt inside was eating him up, but the feeling of sharing Talia with John was stronger, so he couldn’t help but deny him his mate.
He badly wished there was a way to get them to reject each other and nullify the bond so the moon goddess could get him another, but sadly it wasn’t possible.
He noticed Talia hadn’t said a word and he decided to apologize and make up when he was at the hotel.
But as soon as he parked in the driveway, Talia threw the door open and hurriedly walking off with her heels in her hands, not even listening as he called after her.
Sighing, while frustratingly running a hand through his hair, he got into his car before driving off.
Chapter 256
There was silence in the car but for Barton’s fingers tapping on the steering wheel while he drove, his eyes focused on the road ahead of them.
Naomi was seated on the passenger’s seat, staring thoughtfully at the world outside through her window, the wind blowing her hair back from her face.
Barton would glance to her side after some seconds and resume driving with his eyes ahead, but he would steal sneak another glance at her again with an uneasy expression.
After a while, he sighed before speaking out loud, rubbing a hand across his exhausted looking face.
"Why me though?"
Naomi turned away from the window to look at him, and their eyes met, giving her a view of the curious look in his.
"Is it wrong if I want to attend a birthday party and I want you to come along as my Beta?"
"Why not Axle? To be honest, I’m not in the mood to attend parties and do that shit. Daniel understands that I just need..."
"Look, I understand how you feel. But I still insist that rather you stay at home sulking, you go out .... The world is cruel sometimes, but there are some days you can just have fun without thinking of past traumas or events..."
Barton didn’t say a word after that. If he wanted to, he just knew it was another protest, but it’s not like he could refute Naomi’s request, so he just kept driving, and in minutes, they were driving up to a large silver gate with intricate carvings at the top.
Two burly looking pack warriors stood at each side of the gate. They didn’t normally stand there, but since today was their Boss’s daughter’s birthday, they were bent on ensuring everyone aside uninvited guests and rogues tresspased through the gates, to avoid havoc.
Gamma Philips was one of the head Gammas, on his way to becoming an Elder soon, so his reputation was quite popular and influential, and his daughter would certainly be the centre of attention, especially to the rogues who usually got their information from spies they positioned In several packs.
It was hard to fish out these spies because they were actually the dark horse amongst their own pack members. They were living amongst them, and you wouldn’t know they were traitors. They ones found in the past were being killed, their crime too horrible to just punish them by banning them from the pack.
These days it was hard to trust anyone, so they were quite strict with adhering to the guests’ list. They didn’t care if you were a long lost family or a very close friend. As long as you weren’t given an invite by Gamma Philip’s daughter, Emily or Gamma Philips himself, you weren’t allowed to step past the gates.
As Barton drove up close to the gates, Naomi dug in her bag for the invite before a pack warrior approached them.
He had a stoic, cold expression on his face, capable of chasing anyone away, but on seeing his Luna, his expression softened and he bowed immediately.
"Luna Naomi... I’ll open the gates right away. Thank you so much for gracing the event with your prescence." With that, he made to leave and open the gates, but Naomi still handed him the invite, thrusting it out the window with her hand still clutched at the other end as she waited for him to take it.
"But Luna... There’s no need. You don’t have..."
Naomi just smiled calmly as she urged him to take it.
"For the sake of fulfilling the protocols. Just take it."
Her humility and domicile nature worked like magic, and the pack warrior took the invite and scanned through it before bowing again.
Naomi calmly nodded, feeling awkward, still not used to people bowing to her.
"Beta Barton. It’s an honor to meet you." The pack warrior bowed and Barton just nodded, already grabbing the steering wheel to start driving in.
The pack warrior headed back to the gates.
"It’s the Luna, open the gates."
The two men start pushing the gates open, and as Barton drove in, another car, a red Bugatti Chiron drive up behind them but parked in their previous space to show the pack warrior their invite.
Barton drove past the large fountain in the middle of the huge compound. There, a statue of a naked woman, clad loosely in loin clothes had water spewing from her mouth, down to the fountain before her.
There was a garage where guests had their cars parked in, and it was almost filled, yet, there were still parking spots left for the rest of the vehicles, and Barton parked at the rear end.
When he stepped down, Naomi had already done the same so he couldn’t open her side of the door for her like he planned on doing.
"You look like you’re about to fight an army of rogues and not attend a birthday party. Cheer up Barton." Naomi heartily chuckled as she said, cradling the small wrapped box in her arm.
"You got her a present?" He asked instead, the bored expression still on his face. Noami glanced down to smile calmly at the small wrapped box in her arms.
"Yeah... Figured out since she personally invited me for her birthday party, I might as well bring a gift along."
Barton didn’t say anything else and just let her lead the way while he stood an inch behind her, studying the beautiful architectural exterior decor of the building.
The spacious compound accomadated a beautiful gazebo at the side, the garage, the beautiful foundation and even a swimming pool was around back, filled with beautiful half naked young women as they swam inside, splashing some water at each others’ faces while shrieking.
Barton felt a sense of deja Vu seeing beautiful half nude women in the water as he entered the mansion and remembered that the last time something like this happened, he was anticipating fucking two women, but now it was different. He didn’t even get the same familiar feeling of excitement on seeing their exposed bodies.
He noticed some of Late Alpha Justin’s daughters swimming around in the pool, and a mocking smirk twisted his lips to the side when he foolishly scanned his eyes around in hope of seeing Dora.
Yeah. Like a dead person could suddenly come to life and attend a birthday party, causally swimming around and waiting for him to spot her.
Chapter 257
The pack warriors standing side by side at the double mahogany doors, bowed on seeing Naomi and Barton before throwing the doors open, letting them in.
As they got in, Naomi’s mouth dropped on seeing the interior of the building. The spacious living room had been turned to a large party hall, filled to the brim with people of influential backgrounds. There was soft music playing in the back ground, and a DJ at the music booth. Omegas dresses in white shirt and black pants for both males and females moved about with trays in their hands, raised in the air, glass of champagnes sitting on the surface.
Some moved around with small snacks sitting at the top of the golden platter on their lifted palms.
The females had their hair pulled back from their faces into a pony tail and for the males... Their hair was gelled back, away from their faces.
Expensive mini porcelain tables were scattered about with two chairs for each table where guests could sit, leaving the middle as the dance floor.
"Gamma Philips went all out for his daughter. Don’t you think?" Barton asked in bewirldment.
"It’s her eighteenth birthday, the most important milestone for a young female werewolf. So I think if she wanted a party like this, then she deserved it."
"Hey guys.." Raiden suddenly came up to them, smiling with a cute grin on his face, ignoring the shameless stares he got from young unmated she-wolves as he walked across the dance floor towards the pair at the entrance.
"Raiden" Naomi and Barton simultaneously offered a small smile before Raiden and Barton shook hands.
"Did you come alone?" Naomi asked when she was yet to see Liliana or Koan or Nancy after they shared a brief hug.
"I did. Liliana’s in school, and as much as Nancy wanted to come, Koan didn’t want to let her leave the house."
"Haven’t they found Angela? Is she still missing from prison?" Barton asked and Naomi had a worried look in her eyes as she waited for his reply.
"They don’t know about her whereabouts, and just last night, another prisoner escaped from the establishment. They’re all focused on finding her than bothering about Nancy’s step mum who according to them was ’legally’ bailed."
Naomi and Barton had dreadful looks on their faces until a girl walked up to them. As she walked towards them, heads turned and men drooled over her.
Her steps were measured, and her shoulders were straight and moderate as her beautiful curved back as she shortened the distance between them.
As eighteen, Emily was capable of putting many people to shame with her extraordinary beauty. Her twinkling blue eyes and blonde hair which cacaded down her shoulders after framing her oval shaped face were like the moon goddess’s gift from above.
The expensive silver gown she wore, accentuated her full wide hips before trailing down her legs to the ground, shielding the matching silver shoes she wore underneath.
Her hair was left down her shoulders and her makeup was simple, only to highlight her natural beauty.
"Damn..." Raiden whispered before Barton elbowed him.
"You would rip a man’s eyes out If he stared at Liliana that way."
Raiden rolled his eyes as he rubbed his sides.
"She’s beautiful, I’ll admit it. But I have no intention of doing anything else about it. Can’t I compliment her?"
Barton just rolled his eyes.
At that moment, Emily arrived in their midst and wounded her arms around Naomi, enfolding her in a hug before Naomi wished her a Happy birthday with a bright smile.
"That’s Luna Naomi..." Whispers began getting round.
"Wow, she’s looking beautiful as ever... I can’t believe we have a Kitsune in our midst.."
"Gamma Philips must have a good relationship with Luna Naomi to be able to convince her to come for his daughter’s party.."
As Emily pulled away, her eyes travelled from Raiden to Barton before a pleasant smile crawled up her pink tainted lips.
"I’m so happy you all made it to my party. I feel honored to see you here."
The guys nodded while Naomi led her into the party to start up a conversation while leaving Barton and Raiden alone.
"So why are you even here again? What connection do you have with Gamma Philips?"
"Oh.. we go way back actually. I went to school here, and he happened to be my teacher. So he personally invited me last night and I just couldn’t refuse."
Suddenly, two women came up to Barton and held him on each side of his arm, gazing up at him with a smile, the side of their hips strutting out like they were models on the runway.
Barton stiffened in their hold and his expression turned cold, but the girls didn’t seem to notice because one said.
"Hey handsome, we saw you standing here with your friend and we decided to invite you two to come drink with us at that VIP table over there..."
They were also inviting Raiden, but they politely kept their distance, knowing the reputation of his mate.
Raiden shrugged and turned to Barton who looked like he wanted to decline.
"It’s a party. We might as well have some refreshments."
With that, Barton sighed inwardly.
"Fine."
With that, the girls giggled excitedly and was ready to lead him over there when he stopped in his tracks before pulling from their grip.
"Go ahead without me, I’ll join you in a second." Saying that, the girls nodded with sombre looks on their faces before heading for their table, hoping he didn’t just indirectly reject them.
"You looked really uncomfortable here. Mind telling me what’s wrong, Buddy?"
Barton just sighed.
It’s been long. She’s dead. Why can’t he just move on? It’s not like they had anything special when she was alive. She literally saw him as a ticket to use to get closer to his cousin, and the one time she turned vunerable and actually confessed her true feelings to him, was when she was a second close to dying.
He needed to forget about her and stop acting like he was mourning his beloved mate. He was Barton. The guy who didn’t give shit about women. The guy who changed women like underwear.
He was at a birthday party full with chicks of all shapes and sizes, it will do him good to just go all out and fuck his misery out of someone else, and what better time than now.
Suddenly he grabbed two small platters of snacks from an Omega’s tray as she went past them before handing one to Raiden who was still waiting for an answer.
"Nothing . I’ve never been better. Now, let’s not keep the women waiting."
Raiden just stared at him like he had just witnessed a mood swing, but when Barton left him standing there in confusion, he finally tore free from where he stood and quickly followed him from behind, missing the shadow of someone hiding behind a pillar watching them.
When the stranger behind the pillar was sure they were occupied, its eyes moved straight to Naomi who was standing at the side of the party where gifts for the celebrant were kept. She was just dropping hers while chuckling at something Emily said.
The stranger smirked.
Chapter 258
Andrew’s face burned in shame when he was woken up from sleep by Angela and he noticed he had foolishly slept through the entire journey, not even bothering to know where he has been taken Incase he wanted to find his way back.
"Come on. Out now. A is waiting and she doesn’t like waiting." Angela said calmly as he stretched with a sombre expression on his face. He hesistated a bit after seeing the scenario outside. Did he just leave his hometown and drop into a horror movie?
The place looked like the light and liveliness was sucked out of it, leaving it dark and dull. Dark clouds replaced the sunny bright blue clouds, and the houses around were all uncompleted like they were demolished. It was like a world war occurred here and the place was untouched for years.
Even as he dropped a foot down from the car, he felt some mud splash on his shoes before reluctantly planting another feet down and getting out the car.
"Where is this place?" He asked, staring at everything with his eyes in awe as he shut the door behind him.
"We’re in the midst of rogues." It was Theresa who replied and he turned to see she was sitting at the bonnet of the car, her hair looking like she had carelessly run her fingers through, her eye staring at the clouds like it was a blank sheet of paper.
Andrew frowned, brows furrowing together in confusion.
"Ro- goons?" He pronounced the word like a little child learning a new word and was trying to pronounce it.
Angela just finished a call, and he presumed the supposed Boss called ’A’ was not around at the moment because she sat on the empty spot next to Theresa on the bonnet before raking her hand through her hair, glancing up at the dark clouds like it was a bright sunlight refecting off her face.
"Rogues." She pronounced properly before turning to Andrew with an amused smile. "Are you playing with me here or are you going to stand there and tell me you don’t know who a rogue is?"
Andrew shot Theresa a questioning glance before turning to Angela again.
"Is this rogue a person or... "
The smile on Angela’s face froze and with a sneering look, her upper lip curled up to a snicker, she elbowed Theresa’s side.
"You didn’t tell him?!"
"Look, things went by really fast okay? I just thought I was going to use his credit card and car for a night and leave him. I didn’t know he was going to join us."
Andrew just stared at the two women with a blank expression as they argued over what he couldn’t seem to comprehend.
Soon, Angela dropped down from the bonnet of the car before approaching him, her lips twisted into a quirky smirk when she noticed how tensed up he was as she shortened the distance between them.
"Well, we can’t kill you now, can we?" He gulped at her words. "So I might as well explain this as patiently as I possibly can, and if I do have to repeat myself... I will kill you."
"Remind me when I said you and I owned him." Theresa’s voice boomed over hers from where she sat there on the car, not even glancing at them.
"Well, as long as he’s in our custody, I’ll do the hell I want to do to him. Unless you’re willing to tell him the history of werewolves and rogues and the rest... Be my guest."
"W- w- werewolves?" Andrew stammered as he felt his throat run dry.
Angela turned to him, and all the blood drained from his face when he saw her eyes gleam crimson red, and her teeth elongated from her gums, sharpening at the tips to form canniness.
Andrew staggered back on seeing her new form, but he missed his step and fell bottom first on the ground, but that didn’t deter his movements as he kept scrambling back on his hands, horror on his face.
"You see what I was talking about... I don’t have time for this." Angela sighed, like the thought of trying to calm him down and explain to a human who knew nothing about magic and real life fantasy that werewolves exist. He was yet to know about witches and Kitsunes, but he will surely have a heart stroke and die if he had to process so much information all at once.
Theresa sighed grumpily before dropping down to the ground on her legs, and in a few long strides, she was standing before Andrew’s distorted figure as he tried to stand up while avoiding them on the ground at the same time.
Grunting as she leaned down and pulled him up by curling a fist around the colar of his shirt, she saw the fear and panic in his eyes. But didn’t fail to miss the curiosity too.
"Werewolves exist and no, not in those stupid romance novels and fantasy novels you see around... We do exist. I’m a hybrid. My mum was human and my dad was a werewolf... Angela here is a full blooded werewolf. We’re not like you normal humans... Infact we can actually do so many things you lot can’t.. "
"I know much about werewolves already. Is it really true? You can shape shift? Move at an incredibly inhumane speed? all your senses are heightened ten times more than a humans, you have long life spans, and you have a goddess who you call Selena?"
The two women stared at him in disbelief.
"I thought you didn’t know anything about werewolves." Andrew grunted as he pulled away from Theresa’s grip, almost staggering back again to the floor as he dusted himself up, cautious now because he knew what these people were.
He would have laughed in their faces the minute they had said this- if...
If Angela’s eyes hadn’t turned crimson red right Infront of him and her teeth hadn’t turned to sharp canniness, capable of ripping him apart If she wanted to.
What normal human does that shit?
Chapter 259
Definitely not him or his sister or mother, but these people... no wonder he felt some sort of otherworldly aura emanating from them right from when he had met Theresa.
"I was a book worm in middle school, and I had taken an interest in fantasy romance. I know so much about werewolves, witches, vampires, faes... I just didn’t know they existed." He held his head. This was too much to process, yet he feared that if he asked too many questions, Angela would stick true to her words and kill him off without a thought.
"Wait... What about witches... A- And vampires.. and the rest... Are they real too? "
Theresa shrugged, still keeping her eyes trained on him like she was watching his every move, Incase he made a run for it.
"Witches- yes. Vampires and the rest? Yes, and No."
"What do you mean Yes and No."
"Yes by they were in existence, and No as in, they aren’t any longer. Now quit with the questions. We’ve satisfied your curiousity and we’ve explained the needful." Angela cut in.
Theresa just raised a hand, shutting Angela up. If she didn’t want to answer his questions, then she will. She liked his curiosity. Reminded her of Jephthah, and it was amusing to watch him look so vunerable and naive as he asked calmly like he was scared of upsetting the time bomb beside her.
"Rogues are mutilated werewolves or werewolves who have been banned from their packs due to betrayal or any horrible thing of the sort, or forbidden hybrids like a were-witch." She explained without needing a question. Besides, it was the first thing he wanted to know. Rogues. He knew about werewolves, why not rogues?
"How long have you guys been in existence? Have wereolves been living amongst us humans for so long?" He asked, color draining from his face as he waited for an answer. He didn’t know If he should he scared or worried or apprehensive, but he was mostly curious. Yes, he was cautious that he was standing before two fantasy creatures he only thought existed in tales and books, but then again, it was mind blowing that he got a first hand chance to learn about these creatures from them personally and know about their orgin and all the rest.
"Decades..." Theresa waved her hands, and from the corner of Andrew’s eyes, he noticed Angela receive a call from someone who he assumed was their boss.
"We have actually, but some do it for the purpose of finding their mates... Not all werewolves have werewolves as mates. They can also be mated to humans" She paused to raise a brow. "You know what mates are, right?"
He nodded before freezing as he realized something. If there was a possibility that Jephthah was a Werewolf, did it mean...
"Is Talya a werewolf."
Theresa smirked dangerously as if she was wondering how Talya was brought into their conversation and Andrew bit his tongue.
"Yes.. she is." Angela replied as she put down the phone. "Come on. A is around. It’s time."
With that, Theresa walked ahead of them- towards the house they had parked several feet from. Unlike the others, it wasn’t demolished, and despite the unruly background and compound, the building was quite descent to stay in if you could handle snakes and other posionous insects.
Andrew and Angela were left to walk side by side, the two noticing something off about Theresa. Andrew wondered if it was about Angela speaking about their boss, but Angela knew what made her turn away in rage.
"Word of advice... If you want to live much longer, and probably avoid dying in Theresa’s hands, avoid speaking about Talia unless she does."
Andrew’s eyes suddenly widened in realization and he swallowed in fear when he realized he just chose a death wish by carelessly asking such a question.
He nodded, not able to form words out his mouth as they headed into the house. As they approached the place, bushes rustling under their feet, the stench of blood became so obvious, a churning feel began rising up in his stomach like bile.
And it got even worse as they entered what looked like an office which was down the basement.
"It smells like a morgue in here..." He whispered, grabbing hold of his nose and aaying, feeling his voice echo through the house as they moved down the hallways which led down to the office they found themselves in.
"Personally, A would not let that slide. Bear with the stench until you leave, and do not say a word until she speaks to you. If she chooses to kill you, Theresa cannot save you, so please just listen and shut your mouth."
More color drained from his face when he heard her words, and despite the dread he felt on hearing about this mysterious boss of theirs, he was curious to see her, wondering how powerful someone was to kill him and Theresa would just stand there and watch, unable to raise a finger and help him.
The office was empty but for a desk and a large chair behind it. Two miniature chairs were positioned Infront of the desk, facing the large one. There was also a notice board which had pictures of pinned people he couldn’t recognize, some pictures had holes in them like they were shot with a gun, some looked like they had been shredded with a knife, some had bloodstains around. Infact the walls.. the floors, the ceilings... everywhere had dark stains of blood all around, and he actually got used to the stench since It wasn’t as horrible as the one he perceived outside.
"Where’s A?" Theresa asked after some seconds of standing and no one had said a word, probably just like Andrew, staring at everything in awe and horror.
Andrew thought to himself. He could never sleep in this room no matter how much he was paid!
Suddenly he felt a very dark imminent aura from behind, causing his legs to turn to jelly legs, and Andrew froze when he sensesd a prescence behind them.
There was a chilled uneasy feeling that travelled through Andrew’s body just by sensing the stranger’s prescence right behind him.
All the blood drained from his face and he had to hold the chair tight beside him to hold his weight because he could feel his legs almost give way as an invisible force tried to push him down to his knees.
"Why is there a human here?"
Chapter 260
He noticed the curiosity and apprehensiveness in her voice, but to his relief she didn’t sound angry. Her voice was like steel, and he could almost taste the ironic component of the compound blood in his mouth just listening to her voice which slid across the room, lingering in the air like the stench of blood outside which made him feel sick to his stomach.
A voice in his head was telling him to run. Turn and run without looking back. Run far away from these people. But it was too late for him to even think of doing that, because he knew the next second he tried to run, he would die.
"I brought him." He raised his eyes slightly to see Theresa staring at someone behind him, and that was when he realized the women had turned to the source of the dark aura In the room and he was yet to turn, still shivering, trembling.
"Hmm." It was like a scoff, but he heard her footsteps inching closer In the room. By the sound of the heels on the ground, he guessed she was putting on heavy boots, and he was right because to his relief, she didn’t approach him but actually headed for her chair which was behind the desk.
He dared not glance up and could only see her shiny boots as it clicked, making its way close to her chair.
From the moment she had walked in, it was like something was holding his head down, preventing him from looking at anything else but the floor, only his eyes darting left and right.
He heard the screech of the chair as she moved it back before she sat down and crossed her legs on the table.
His heart thundered hard against his rib cage, sweat forming on his forehead, despite the cold air that blew into the room from the small window inside.
He felt chills- yes. But he also felt hot and sweaty at the same time. Was she a witch to make him feel this way?
"Sit." He heard the cold, familiar voice. Theresa and Angela took their seats and he was just left standing awkwardly between the two of them, still standing before the desk while the mysterious woman studied him.
A smirked, enjoying the silent torment the human went through whole she lit a cigarette and popped into her mouth.
"Does the human speak?" She asked mockingly.
Before Theresa could reply, A added.
"Look at me."
Andrew swallowed before slowly raising his head like it was manually forced up like a crane, and his pupils dilated on seeing who was sitting before him.
He thought he had seen it all in horror movies, but this... This was on another level.
The woman’s face was oval shaped and her eyes were bloodshot and had a lifeless blue color like it was previously blue but bleached so much that it almost turned white, but you could clearly tell it was blue.
He tilted his head slightly to the side, wondering if she was blind as she blankly stared at him, but the woman just kept studying him.
Her brows were dark and bushy like her overgrown hair which looked like it hadn’t been combed and cut for years even. It covered most of her face, so he couldn’t see most of her feautures clearly.
She had on a black leather jacket like the other women and matching black pants, and you could visibly see the large, buldging, ripped muscles from the arm of herr jacket, again, making him wonder if he was really the feminine one amongst these burly looking women.
Her eyes were the most terrifying features, but the one that almost sent him screaming and running out the room was the green, yellow, blue and red veins running across her foreheads from all sides, down the side of her face to her eyes lid, down to her cheeks from her lower eye lids.
At least Theresa and Angela looked human While she? She looked like a demon.
Angela cleared her throat softly and he quickly glanced down to the table, scared to death when he realized he had been scrutinizing her In the same manner she did.
"I don’t fancy eating humans, but if he had a little meat on him at least, I would be willing to.. "
Andrew’s face was white as a blank board on hearing her words, but before he could drop limply to the ground from fear, Theresa spoke up in a curt tone.
"He’s working under me. He helped me out of prison, and I decided to let him in on our plans. Does he look anything like a were-witch you can feed on?"
He tried to steady his heartbeat on hearing her words, but the news just kept getting thrown in his direction aimlessly and he was left stunned and breathless from receiving each one like a merciless blow.
She fed on were-witches?
A snickered while Angela shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She knew Andrew didn’t help her escape, not in the way she wanted A to think, but she couldn’t make things worse for her and just kept her mouth shut, wondering how Theresa was going to save Andrew from A’s grip.
"What if I want him either way" He snapped his head up at A’s words, his throat running dry, his body fidgeting in fear. A had a smug, devilish, daring look on her face as she locked eyes with a furious Theresa. "Would you stop me?
"I will fucking..."
Angela suddenly cut in, sure that whatever Theresa had to say would definitely worsen matters.
"A... we believe he’ll be of help in most of our missions. He won’t betray us if that’s what you think, and we would appreciate it well enough if you do take him as one of us and not a meal."
A just rolled her eyes, and waved her hand, clearly bored now.
"Then he better get ready for our first mission which is in the next three days. He messes this up, and I’ll swallow his soul whole without him realizing until he sees his life flash before his eyes for a fleeting second." Saying that, she glanced at Theresa like she dared her to say another word of protest.
Andrew felt Theresa’s fury and rage at A’s words and he clearly guessed that Theresa didn’t seem to like her for some reason.
He shouldn’t be the one they should be worried about when it came to betraying them, instead it should be Theresa and not him. But he couldn’t explain the feeling in his heart when she had stood up for him and almost risked her life when she was this close to challenging A for him.
