Chapter 611
The Best Team
*Zander*
Why was there so much darkness everywhere that I couldn't see a thing? I rubbed my eyes and blinked, trying to adjust, but it was useless. Spinning around, I searched desperately for a glimmer of light, for any sign of illumination, but there was nothing-just an endless void.
Suddenly, a gust of wind rushed past me, forcing me to lift my arm to shield my eyes. The air was so powerful it pushed me back a step, but as it calmed slightly, I lowered my arm and glimpsed something- a faint glow ahead.
There she was.
A mysterious woman stood bathed in soft, otherworldly light.
"Hey! Who are you?" I shouted, trying to move closer to her, but the relentless wind resisted every step, pushing me back as if trying to keep me away.
Then it hit me. Her eyes. Those eyes. They were the same as I'd seen in my dreams. I froze. Were they really? Yes. They were. Those eyes belonged to my savior.
"Tell me your name!" I shouted again, my voice filled with desperation as the light began to fade. "No, don't go! Stay!" I screamed, running toward her.
The wind suddenly stopped, and the light was swallowed by the darkness. I reached the spot where she had been moments before, but I was left with nothing just empty air. My hands flailed, hoping to grasp even a fragment of her presence, but there was nothing. Only silence and an overwhelming emptiness. "No, come back! Please!" I screamed, collapsing to my knees, my voice breaking. My heart raced with an unknown fear, an unbearable ache I had never felt before. For a fleeting moment, it felt as though if I didn't find her, I would lose everything that mattered in my life.
Suddenly, my eyes flew open, and I found myself in my bed, panting and drenched in sweat. I wiped a trembling hand across my face, looking around the room. Everything seemed normal, quiet, still. Yet, the apprehension in my chest lingered, refusing to fade away.
But I needed answers, and I knew exactly who could provide them. Without hesitation, I left my room, still dressed in my sleepwear. The sky was cloaked in the dim, heavy darkness before dawn-a fitting reflection of the turmoil in my heart.
The guards bowed respectfully as I passed.
"I'll be back soon," I said in my alpha tone, and without waiting for a reply, I took off at full speed, my feet carrying me through the still night. I only stopped when I reached the Moon Goddess Temple.
Standing at the base of the temple steps, I stared upward. The massive doors were open, revealing an interior bathed in an otherworldly glow. The light spilled out softly as if beckoning me closer.
I climbed the steps swiftly, my movements purposeful, and entered the temple. My breath caught as !
stood before the core, where the towering statue of the Moon Goddess loomed, serene and powerful, illuminated by a silvery glow that seemed to pulse with life.
"Goddess!" I called out, my voice echoing through the serene temple. "I need answers, and you must give them to me," I demanded, my tone unwavering.
Staring into the carved, ethereal face
of the Moon Goddess, I pressed on. "Who is the girl that keeps appearing in my dreams?" My voice trembled slightly, but I forced it to remain steady. "Is she my mate?" I paused, hoping for even the faintest sign of a response, but the silence toomed heavy around me.
"My mate died," I continued, the words laced with frustration and confusion. "Or so they told me. Yet, I have no memory of her death. The High Priestess said it
s erased
from my mind so I could be
strong as the Alpha King, I'm supposed to be unyielding." My Voice rose, carrying the weight of my rage. "But if that's true, why do I feel as if she's still alive? Why do I sense her presence somewhere out there?”
"Tell me, Goddess!" I shouted, the silence growing more deafening with each second. My heart raced as
the stillness persisted, filling the temple like an unspoken refusal.
"Alpha King," came a calm, familiar voice from behind me. I spun around to see the High Priestess standing at the entrance, her serene smile unwavering.
"Why are you troubling the Moon Goddess with such a simple question?" she asked, her tone calm but firm, her expression one of quiet authority.
Her dismissiveness only fueled my irritation, and I frowned deeply.
"Simple question?" I gritted out through clenched teeth, my fury barely contained. "This is about my whole life!" I yelled, my voice echoing through the temple walls.
"Calm down, Alpha King," the High
Priestess said softly. She paused for
Ine
a moment as if choosing her words carefully "That feeling... it's only happening because you haven't been with a woman since your wife's death. It's clouding your emotions, nothing more."
Her explanation made logical sense, but my heart rebelled against it. Why couldn't I accept it? Why did it feel so... wrong?
'I'm not buying it either, Zander,' Lyon's voice echoed in my mind through our link. 'I've felt your emotions, your dreams-something's off, and I know it.'
If neither the Moon Goddess nor the High Priestess could give me the answers I sought, then who could?
I gave the High Priestess a curt nod before turning on my heel and striding out of the temple. My footsteps quickened as I descended the stone steps, urgency coursing through my veins.
'So now we're on our own and we have to find the truth, Lyon,' I muttered to my wolf.
'And we're the best team. We are invincible,' he whispered, and I could feel him smirking.
But the words struck a chord deep within me, as though I had heard them before. But where? And from whom?
Chapter 612
Searching Her
I didn't head back to the pack house. Instead, I went straight to the security base, where my top-skilled team was constantly working to make our defenses impenetrable.
"Freya," I called out to the pack's royal witch. She was young but brilliant, combining her magical abilities with modern tech like no one else could. "Did you find anything about that mysterious woman from the security footage?"
"Yes, Alpha," she replied, walking over to the large glass screen on the wall. She tapped on it a few times, swiping through the data until the footage appeared. She played the portion where the woman had shown up in my defense, then froze the frame and zoomed in.
"Look at this," she said, pointing to the image.
My eyes locked onto the beautiful woman in the still frame, and I couldn't look away. Even in a photo, she held my attention like no one ever had.
"She has unusual energy surrounding her," Freya added, drawing my attention to the faint, glowing aura around the woman-the same woman who had been haunting my dreams.
"What is that?" I asked, stepping closer to the screen, my eyes narrowing as I focused on the details Freya had pointed out.
"This energy is otherworldly," Freya explained, her gaze shifting to meet mine. "It confirms that the woman came from another realm.'
"Another realm?" I turned toward her, my expression full of questions.
"Yes," she said, nodding. "I researched a fragment I found in the area where she appeared. From my findings, it seems she might have come from the Lunar Realm."
"The Lunar Realm?" I repeated, shocked. "That realm is sacred-completely out of reach for normal shifters." My voice dropped as a realization hit me. "Does that mean she's a goddess?" I muttered to myself.
Freya shrugged lightly. "I can't say for sure, Alpha," she admitted. "She could be a goddess or just a resident of the Lunar Realm. But with her ability to travel between realms and the sheer power she radiated while protecting you, she certainly resembles a goddess."
Why would a goddess come here to protect me? And why did I keep seeing her in my dreams? What connection could there possibly be between us?
Oh, for Goddess's sake, I felt like I would go insane.
There was only one way to get answers to meet her personally. And for that... either she had to come here, or I had to find a way to the Lunar Realm myself. There was no other option.
*Kaelvor*
"What makes you come here?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at the two fools I only tolerated because of Selena.
"We thought we would be welcomed in the Dark Realm by God Kaelvor," that arrogant vampire Damon said, his smug tone grating on my nerves.
I forced a slow, measured smile. "Of course, you're welcome. But if word gets out that we're conspiring to destroy the Lunar Realm and capture the ancient golden wolf, Arena, we'll all be in deep trouble." "Who can threaten the God of Destruction?" the Dark Alpha said with pride, his tone dripping with misplaced confidence.
I suppressed a huff of annoyance. These two imbeciles thought allying with me automatically made them invincible, eternal beings. They had no idea what they had truly signed up for by cooperating with me. "There's a supreme power," I said, my voice low and sharp, "one that can destroy gods and goddesses alike. Even I am bound by His rules. So don't get too comfortable with your little delusions of grandeur."
Their smug expressions faltered,
and I pressed on, my patience
wearing thin. "Now, stop wasting my time and tell me why are you here?” I crossed my arms, glaring at them. There were far more pressing matters to attend to than entertaining these self-important fools.
"Alpha King Zander Blake has become suspicious as he postponed the wedding," the Dark Alpha informed me.
"And whose fault is that?" I snapped, glaring at
diotic vampire. "If you
had just waited for the right time and shown some patience, we wouldn't be dealing with yet another probtem.” My voice was sharp with irritation as I grunted in frustration.
One problem was already enough-marrying Selena and claiming her power by being her mate. But now, another obstacle had presented itself in the form of Zander Blake.
He wasn't just anyone; Zander was cunning, powerful, and dangerous. He had the strength to bring down
a sacred realm single-handedly, which was why he ruled as the Alpha King over the entire werewolf community.
Prophesied to die long ago, he was somehow still alive. For reasons unknown, fate had spared him. Zander wasn't just an alpha-he was invincible.
"Now what should we do to stop him from finding out our real plan?" the Dark Alpha asked, diverting my attention back to him.
"We shouldn't do anything," I
suggested, leaning back on my throne. "Let him be curious. He'll never know what's going on. But if either of you tries to draw his attention again, I won't be able to save you," I warned them.
Both of them swallowed hard and nodded, and I was satisfied with the fear now in their eyes.
Suddenly, one of my men barged in, looking very startled.
"What's wrong?" I asked, my tone sharp.
"We got word that Alpha King Zander Blake has been found trying to break the rules, attempting to breach
the Eternal Gate, which is meant for mortals to travel between realms."
What?!
Chapter 613
Freya had uncovered a hidden gateway between the realms through her relentless research and decoding of ancient inscriptions. It was a secret passage, invisible to everyone's eyes, existing for ages yet untouched by any soul. But I was desperate desperate to meet the woman who haunted my dreams and held the answers I sought. I was ready to go to any lengths, to pay any price, no matter how steep. However, things didn't go as planned. Just as I made it halfway through the passage, I was intercepted by the guards of the Lunar Realm. Freya had warned me about the possible consequences, but I hadn't cared. My determination overshadowed any fear of what might happen to me. I was willing to take the risk, to gamble everything on this one reckless bet.
As expected, they brought me to the Lunar Realm for a trial, and I could hardly contain the excitement bubbling within me. My mission to reach the Lunar Realm had succeeded, and no wolf had ever set foot here before. But as thrilled as I was, I knew the real challenge lay ahead: finding that woman.
The guards had me restrained with some sort of magical restraints, marching me through the ethereal beauty of the realm. I looked around, and the realm was incredibly beautiful. It was like nothing I had ever seen every inch of it radiated an otherworldly glow, a harmony of nature and magic that made it breathtaking. It was no wonder that the woman I sought had an ethereal beauty that seemed otherworldly and I it was fitting for someone like her to come from a place so stunning.
As we moved, I noticed people gathering, their eyes filled with curiosity and their whispers buzzing like a hive around me. Their stares made me feel strangely out of place, their fascination unnerving. Clearly, I was as foreign to them as they were to me.
Lyon, my wolf, suddenly became restless, pacing in the back of my mind. His heightened awareness made me pause.
'What's wrong?' I asked through our mind link.
'I don't know,' he murmured, his tone brimming with excitement. 'It feels like... like my heart is about to burst. Like we're about to meet... her.'
I frowned, puzzled. 'Her? Who are you talking about?'
Before Lyon could respond, we reached the royal court, and my thoughts were interrupted as the queen arrived. The moment she stepped into the room, the air seemed to shift. My breath caught, and time slowed. She moved with a grace that was almost hypnotic, her aura commanding and radiant.
Lyon's voice echoed through my mind in a deafening growl.
'Mate!'
The word reverberated through me, leaving me as stunned as everyone around me.
*Selena*
I had been informed that a
trespasser was caught by the
guards and was being brought to the court for trial. But when I stepped into the court, I froze in disbelief. Standing there, bound but unbroken, was Zander Blake His piercing blue eyes locked onto mine, and with a voice that carried both certainty and confusion, he uttered the word:
"Mate!"
The air seemed to still around me as those words reached my ears. My heart raced, a mixture of joy and shock flooding through me. He recognized me. He remembered me.
"Zander!" I whispered, my voice trembling as I instinctively took a step toward him. But before I could get any closer, Mother's hand came up, halting me in place.
"Alpha Zander Blake, what are you talking about?" she challenged him, her tone sharp and commanding. "She is my mate," Zander stated, his voice firm yet tinged with confusion. His expression mirrored his words-shocked, almost disbelieving-but his gaze never wavered from my face. "Who are you, mate?" he asked, his voice softening slightly.
My heart, which had soared moments before, now sank with crushing disappointment. He doesn't remember me. He only senses the mate bond.
"It doesn't matter, Alpha King," I said, keeping my expression cold and indifferent. "I am the Queen, and you are the trespasser brought here for trial." My voice was icy as I added, "So don't cross formal boundaries, and behave yourself."
Inside, I was hurting. How could he
forget me so easily? How could he move on and agree to marry my sister? Now he sensed I was his mate, yet he still didn't recognize me as Selena-his Selena. To hell with him. Now he was in my realm, at my mercy, and I would make sure he bore the consequences of breaking my heart. Err... I meant breaking the rules of the Interrealm Council.
"You were caught entering the Lunar Realm in an
authorized manner
and without permission," I declared
my tone firm and unyielding. "For that, I sentence you to
imprisonment, where you will serve
your punishment until we uncover your motive for entering this realm."
I couldn't hide the satisfaction I felt as I saw the way his eyes narrowed at me, familiar rage brewing within
their stormy depths.
Welcome to hell, Alpha King.
Chapter 614
Selfish Reason
"You're not serious, are you?" Zander asked and irritation was clear in his voice.
"Do I look like I'm joking?" I raised an eyebrow, my tone sharp and unwavering. "The court is adjourned." With that, I stood from my seat and turned to leave.
"Wait, mate!" he shouted, his voice desperate. "I came here for you."
I froze mid-step, my heart betraying me as it clenched at the sound of his plea. After all, I loved him and he is my mate. My fated mate.
But Mother's stern gaze from across the room and a subtle shake of her head reminded me of my duty. I forced myself not to turn back. Instead, I resumed my steps, reluctantly moving toward the exit.
I could feel his yearning gaze burning into my back until the doors closed behind me with a heavy thud.
I summoned the commander, and she appeared before me instantly. She was a tall and well-built woman, best in her fighting skill and awarded for bravery many times.
"The Alpha King cannot be kept in a regular prison alongside criminals," I began in a serious tone. "Though he trespassed, we don't yet know the urgency that drove him to do so. Treat him with respect and dignity. He will stay in the royal guest quarters, not the prison."
The commander's brow furrowed slightly, confusion flickering in her eyes at my unexpected instructions. I ignored it, knowing full well my motives were both selfish and protective when it came to my mate. "Keep him under constant surveillance," I continued, my voice brooking no argument. "Guards will be stationed around him at all times. He is not allowed to leave the room under any circumstances, but ensure that he is provided with everything he needs to be comfortable.'
She nodded briskly, though her uncertainty was still evident. I dismissed her with a wave of my hand. No one dared to defy or question the Queen.
The day passed like any other-offering rituals, visiting the temple, and completing my duties. Once I was finally free, I returned to my room, letting out a weary sigh.
'Selena, are you really going to leave our mate in that filthy prison?' Arena's voice echoed in my mind, laced with frustration.
'What else can I do?' I replied with a helpless shrug. 'He trespassed, Arena. He broke the rules, and I had no choice but to sentence him.'
'He said he came here for us. I can't bear to see our mate suffer like this!' she argued fiercely.
I exhaled deeply, understanding her pain. 'I don't want him there either,' I admitted. 'But my hands are tied. Still, I'll find a way to release him without breaking the laws.'
The thought of him being
nět
imprisoned gnawed at my heart, but even worse was the ache of being apart from our son. He was all alone without his father, and with me absent from his life. Austin also didn't remember me, but I missed my baby boy terribly.
However, I couldn't ignore the selfish part of me that wanted him near, even if it was just for one day or a few hours.·longed to be close to him, to hear his voice and see him with my own eyes. I didn't know when I'd get the chance again, or if I ever would. This might be the only opportunity I had to be near him, and I wasn't about to let it slip away.
As if hearing my thoughts loud, Arena's voice echoed in my mind with a knowing smirk. 'I have an idea.'
The next moment, I found myself
walking out of my chamber and
heading toward the royal guest
room in the west wing where Zander was being kept. My heart raced with excitement of seeing him again as I move swiftly through the corridors. The guards at the entrance straightened when they saw me. The surprise was clear on their faces. They bowed their heads respectfully, but I could tell they were unsure of how to act at this unexpected visit.
"I want to ask some questions to the Alpha King," I said, keeping my posture calm and composed.
"Do you want me to summon the commander, Goddess?" one of the guards asked.
"No need. I have some questions, not an interrogation," I shook my head.
"But he can be dangerous," one of them warned with concern.
"He's no harm to me," I replied with a knowing smile.
"Open the door," I said, my voice steady. One of the guards unlocked it and pushed it open.
I held my breath as I stepped inside and immediately saw Zander Blake pacing, his brow furrowed in concentration. But as soon as he saw me, he stopped in his tracks, his eyes locking with mine, and for a moment, it felt like time stood still.
My heart skipped a beat. I forced myself to compose my thoughts, taking a steadying breath before stepping further into the room. I motioned for the guards to close the door behind me.
The frown that had been on his handsome face melted away, replaced by a knowing smirk.
"I knew you would come, mate," he said in a voice low and full of a teasing edge, making me furrow with confusion.
Chapter 615
You Belong To Me
"You are very confident, Alpha King," I said, frowning at his ever-present smirk.
He chuckled, a sound that sent an unbidden flutter through my heart, betraying emotions I tried to suppress.
"I am here to ask you some questions as the Queen," I snapped fiercely, determined to maintain my composure. Yet, no matter how strong I pretended to be, he always had this unshakable power over my heart and soul.
"And I'm here to ask you some questions, too, mate," he countered, his words catching me off guard. "What questions?" I asked without thinking, my curiosity slipping through.
"You already knew I was your mate when you came to save me, didn't you?" His question left me momentarily dumbfounded.
I averted my eyes, momentarily speechless.
Of course, I know you're my mate, you stupid Alpha King, I thought inwardly, frustration simmering beneath the surface.
"And to ask this, you took such a big risk-trespassing the inter-realm, breaking rules, and putting yourself
in danger?" I questioned, lifting my chin in defiance, refusing to let him see how his presence rattled me.
"I think the risk was worth it, mate," he replied, his voice turning huskier and laced with emotions. He stepped closer, his intense gaze never leaving mine.
The way he called me mate, with such tenderness and conviction, was enough to make my resolve waver. My heart screamed to abandon all inhibitions and run into his arms. How long was I going to survive if he kept looking at me like that?
"That's insane," I murmured under my breath, earning a raised eyebrow from Zander.
"You shouldn't have come here," I said with a sigh, trying to keep my emotions in check. "I'll arrange for you to return to your realm and drop all the charges so I can be free of this mess."
"No!" His firm, deep voice cut through my thoughts, making me look up at him in surprise. "I won't return without you. Come with me."
"What? No!" I replied, my shock evident. "I can't leave the Lunar Realm. My people need me." It wasn't just an excuse it was the truth. I couldn't leave until my purpose here was fulfilled and the prophecy had come true.
"Then I won't go either," he declared stubbornly, and I suddenly realized how close he had gotten. Very close. So close that the warmth of his body enveloped me, and his intoxicating scent began to cloud my thoughts.
Arena was on the verge of losing control, ready to leap into his arms and revel in the warmth of his embrace around us once more.
"That's a reckless decision, Alpha King," I challenged him, frustration lacing my voice. Why did he insist on complicating my life further? "You don't belong here."
"And you belong to me, mate," he declared, his tone resolute. Before I could respond, he pulled me into his arms, and the touch was enough to ignite the magic of the mate bond.
The intensity of it was undeniable and the shared gasp that escaped our lips said it all.
"See?" he murmured, his voice soft yet commanding. "Our bond is unbreakable. How do you plan to ignore this? I want you with me, mate." His demand carried the unmistakable arrogance of an alpha. But despite the pull of the bond, the dull ache in my chest refused to fade the pain of knowing he'd forgotten me so easily. If fate hadn't brought us face to face, would he have ever realized he had a mate? "You don't even remember me," I whispered, my voice trembling with suppressed hurt. I pushed against his chest, trying to free myself from his hold, but his embrace remained firm.
'Remember you?" he asked as confusion laced his expression and voice both. "What do you mean?"
"See? You don't even remember who I am," I sighed, disappointment weighing heavy in my voice.
He stared at me, his eyes searching mine as if trying to piece together a puzzle. After a moment, he finally spoke. "You are my mate."
"That's the only thing you've
managed to realize now?" I snapped,
my frustration boiling over. "You were going to remarry and give our son a stepmother. How dare you proclaim your love for me after all of that?" My voice trembled under the weight of the pain in my heart, exposing the raw emotions I had tried so hard to bury.
"Our son?" His eyes widened, confusion flickering in his gaze. "Were we married? Did we live together? Mate, is Austin... our son?"
It was only then I realized the words I had blurted out-the secret I wasn't supposed to reveal.
I blinked at him, uncertainty flooding
my thoughts
told him the truth,
I'd have to explain everything-and!
didn't even know how or why he didn't remember me. And then there was the complication of my
matrimonial alliance with the God of
Destruction. The situation was so tangled, I didn't know where to start.
Goddess, what have you gotten me into?
Chapter 616
Mate's Dilemma
*Zander*
I couldn't believe she was in my arms, and the spark that ignited confirmed what my heart and Lyon- had been screaming all along: she was my mate. My mate. She was so close, I could almost hear the rhythm of her heartbeat. The way she shivered and gasped my touch only cemented the truth-she felt it too. The spark. The undeniable pull between us. Only mates could react this way to a single touch. But confusion clouded my mind. If she was truly my mate, then what was Avery? Why had I married her? Now, here was this woman, the queen of this realm, ruling not just her people but also my heart. Yet, I didn't even know her name because she hadn't told me. And to top it off, she dropped another bombshell -we were married, a fact I had no memory of. She sounded annoyed that I had forgotten her, which only made things worse.
How could this be possible? No one had ever mentioned I'd been married twice. Sure, maybe I had forgotten, but was it really possible that everyone else my family, my pack-had also forgotten her? Everyone only remembered Avery as my wife.
This whole situation was maddening, and this mysterious woman now seemed even more enigmatic. What in the hell was going on?
"Married or not, it doesn't matter if you forgot so easily," she murmured, her voice laced with disappointment. There it was again-the same thing she kept repeating. What reaction was she expecting from me? Constantly pushing my buttons, reminding me of a past I couldn't recall as if I'd chosen to forget her.
"Then enlighten my memory," I said, my voice carrying a challenging edge.
I stood firm, waiting for her to do something-anything. I'd heard tales about the residents of the Lunar Realm, their magic, their ability to weave illusions and manipulate the very air around them. But now, more than ever, I needed clarity.
Was she real? Was this all an elaborate game to play with my mind? Or was there truth buried beneath the layers of mystery she refused to unveil?
"Alpha Zander, please let me go," she whispered, her voice breathless, matching the way I felt holding her in my arms. Every fiber of my being screamed at me to lose control, to show her what it meant to have an Alpha mate.
"If someone comes, you'll be in great trouble," she warned, though her resolve was clearly weakening with each passing second, her eyes betraying her hesitation.
"Who would dare trouble the Queen's mate?" I murmured, cupping her face gently in my hand. My gaze fell to her lips-soft, red, so plump and tempting. I licked my own lips unconsciously as I leaned in, unable to hold back anymore. I had to taste what was mine.
I was further encouraged when she didn't resist. Her eyes fluttered shut, her soft lips parting as a sigh escaped, brushing warmly against my lips. She wanted this too-I could feel it.
But just as my lips were about to meet hers, the door suddenly burst open. The high priestess stormed in with guards, their urgent steps echoing ominously through the floor.
"Leave our queen, Alpha Zander!" she bellowed, her once soft and calm voice now laced with authority and a harsh, threatening edge.
"I won't. She is my mate," I growled, refusing to release the queen.
"Leave me, please. Don't create a scene," she whispered, her voice soft yet trembling.
My heart clenched at her words, confusion furrowing my brows. Why was she afraid of anyone? She was the queen-she had authority Why was she allowing the high priestess to dictate her fate?
"If you don't want a scene here, then tell them to leave us alone and respect our privacy, mate," I argued, my voice laced with frustration.
"She is not your mate, Alpha King," the high priestess proclaimed firmly, her tone unyielding. "She is our goddess and cannot be mated to you. Only a god can be her match."
"Is that true, mate?" My eyes bore into hers, searching for answers. "You don't want me because I'm only an alpha and not a damn god?"
Her sigh was heavy, her gaze pleading as she whispered softly, "Will you please release me so I can answer you, Alpha?"
I exhaled sharply, trying to calm the
boiling anger threatening to erupt. Reluctantly, I loosened my arms around her, and she slowly stepped back. My body ached to pull her back into my embrace, to feet her warmth once more.
"Mother," she said softly as she turned to the high priestess. So, the high priestess was her mother. It made sense now, why she had such control over her.
"Let Alpha Zander go," my mate said with authority. "Escort him back to his realm. We have no need for any further conflict here."
"No, I won't leave without you," I growled, my Alpha tone echoing through the chamber.
"She cannot go with you, Alpha King," the high priestess snapped, her expression hardening with frustration. "She is our queen, and she will not abandon her people."
"She is my mate," I countered, my voice filled with the authority of an Alpha King. "And she will live with me.'
"She is not yours," the high priestess declared sharply. "Queen Selena is betrothed to the God of Destruction, and they will be married soon."
Her words hit me like a death blow.
It felt as though someone had
ripped my heart from my chest and smashed it to pieces before my eyes. Hturned to my mate, my gaze pleading, full of pain and longing. But the moment she averted her eyes, I had my answer.
Chapter 617
"Mate, don't do this to me," I whispered, desperation lacing my voice.
For a moment, hope flickered in my chest as I saw the yearning in her eyes. I was certain there was love for me too. But before I could even hold on to that hope, the high priestess raised her moonstaff, directing a beam of light straight at me. The last thing I heard before everything went dark was my mate's soft and regretful voice whispering, "I'm sorry."
Then, in the blink of an eye, I was gone, pulled from the lunar realm, and transported to my Moonglow pack. She betrayed me. Tricked me into being sent back-so she could marry some god?! No. She was my mate and mine alone. I wouldn't stop until I made her realize there was no escaping me.
"Alpha!" Maddox's voice snapped me back to reality. I turned to see him and Blair watching me, their faces etched with concern.
"Where have you been?" Blair asked, her tone sharp with worry.
I hadn't told anyone where I was going. Only Freya knew as she had shown me the way to the Lunar Realm, but she'd promised to keep it a secret. I intended to share everything once I confirmed what I felt about the mysterious woman. And now I knew-she was my mate and her name was Selena.
"It's a long story," I said with a deep exhale, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Okay?!" Blair said, her frustration clear as she crossed her arms. "But we were worried, Zander. You disappeared without a word. You didn't tell anyone where you were going!"
Her complaint stung a little, but I couldn't blame her.
"I am your Beta, Zander. At least you should confide in me," Maddox whined.
"I know, I know, but now I'm back, and everything is fine," I said, trying to avoid their questioning gazes. "You better tell us everything-where you went and what made you disappear unannounced," Maddox demanded. This time, I knew it wasn't just my Beta speaking; it was my best friend demanding answers. I told them everything and their shock mirrored the disbelief I'd felt when Selena told me about us.
"Oh my goddess, Zander! When did this happen? Because I swear, I don't remember you marrying a woman named Selena," Blair said, still reeling in shock.
I was just as confused. Selena claimed we were married and had a son, which meant Austin was our child. But my memories told a different story-I remembered marrying Avery and having a son with her. I only recalled Avery dying during a rogue attack, but the details were fuzzy. The doctor once said it was the mind's defense system, a way to cope with trauma and prevent the mind from malfunctioning due to tragic memories.
Did I have tragic memories of Selena as well? If so, why had everyone else forgotten her too? Goddess, there were so many questions-questions I was desperate to find answers to.
"What are we going to do now?" Maddox asked, making me turn my head to look at him as another thought sparked in my mind.
"I need to get to the bottom of this secret as I feel like there's more to this than what meets the eye," I murmured, my thoughts deep and racing.
"But first," I straightened my posture,
taking a deep breath filled with
determination, "we have to file a complain
with the council about the
queen of the Lunar Realm," I
smirked, a plan forming in my mind.
en
Maddox and Blair looked at me with confusion, their brows furrowed. But I knew exactly what I was doing. If my mate thought she could marry someone else while I was alive, she was sorely mistaken. I wouldn't let it happen. I would do
anything-everything—to make her realize her place was with me. She belonged to me, and only me.
"Dad!" Austin's voice broke through my thoughts. He came running toward me, and I crouched to catch him as he leaped into my arms.
I held him close, the love I felt for him warming my chest. He was the only one I'd ever felt true love for- until now. Now I felt that same love for Selena.
"Where were you?" he asked, his little face full of worry.
I smiled, gently pushing the hair back from his forehead before pressing a kiss to his head.
Before I could answer him, my mother appeared as well, seeming like she had been following Austin.
"Yes, Zander, where were you? You made all of us so worried," she scolded, her voice laced with maternal concern.
"Relax, Mother. I was only away for a day, and I'm fine," I replied softly, trying to ease her worry. I turned to face Austin, a smile forming for him. "I'm here now, son," I whispered, holding him tighter.
"Don't do that kind of thing again," she said, leaning her head against my chest. I wrapped my arms gently around her aged frame, feeling the weight of her concern in the way her voice trembled with emotion.
"Okay, I won't do it again. I promise,"
I assured her. Then, hoping to lighten the mood and distract everyone, I turned to my son with a smile Now, let's go to your room, Austin. Show me what you did at school today."
"Yes, Dad! I want to show you my teacher gave me an A grade for my art!" he exclaimed enthusiastically.
My mother smiled at his excitement, and Austin slipped down from my arms, grabbing my hand in his
small one and pulling me toward his room. His innocent enthusiasm was contagious.
I glanced back at Maddox, who gave me a knowing nod and pulled out his phone from his pocket. I knew
it was time. I smiled again at my son and let him lead me to his room.
Chapter 618
"Mother, why can't I save the realm without marrying a god?" Selena argued, frustration lacing her voice. "Because marrying a god will multiply your powers," the high priestess replied calmly, though her tone held a firm finality. "You are not a complete goddess, Selena. You only carry the essence of the Moon Goddess as her descendant."
"But what about my mate? I've been married to him, and we have a son," Selena questioned defiantly as her voice trembled with emotion.
They called her the queen of the realm, worshipped her as their goddess, but as others continued to dictate her life, she felt less like a queen with authority and more like a pawn in their game.
"He has forgotten about you," the high priestess reminded Selena. "They all have forgotten you, even your son. If it weren't for the mate bond, Alpha Zander would never have acknowledged you, Selena. You don't matter to them, to Alpha Zander. So it's better you stay here and fulfill your duty as the queen of the Lunar Realm.
Selena's heart sank at the revelation her mother had just made. The high priestess saw her daughter's face fall, and for a fleeting moment, guilt clawed her chest, softening her resolve. But she quickly buried it beneath the heavy cloak of duty.
She was helpless-bound by the responsibility she bore. To save the Lunar Realm, she had no choice but to break her daughter's heart, to force Selena to turn away from her mate and embrace the fate that awaited her as their queen.
"But then why did the Moon Goddess pair me with Alpha Zander if we weren't meant to be together?" Selena argued, her voice cracking with frustration and pain.
The high priestess let out a sigh of disappointment, her eyes softening briefly before hardening once more.
"Sometimes even the Moon Goddess makes mistakes," she murmured. Turning her back to Selena, she hid the turmoil in her gaze, unwilling to let her daughter see the truth in her eyes.
Selena and Zander were true mates; no force, not even the Moon Goddess herself, could change that. Their bond had been sealed by destiny, not in this lifetime, but thousands of years ago. True mates were fated to find each other in every life, drawn together by an unbreakable thread of fate.
Yet the high priestess had always known her daughter's fate. When she agreed to sacrifice Selena for the sake of the goddess, she had accepted the heavy burden of that choice. Her daughter was not just her child but the key to saving the Lunar Realm-and perhaps the entire universe.
Now was not the time for emotions to cloud her judgment. There was no room for weakness, no space to undo the years of dedication and sacrifice that had led them to this moment.
She pushed down her guilt, steeling herself with the cold resolve of duty, and spoke further, "It's time to correct that mistake. God Kaelvor is here, and all the preparations are done. Once the wedding is complete, we will be one step closer to saving the Lunar Realm."
Today was Selena's wedding to Kaelvor, the God of Destruction. Though she wanted nothing to do with it, she was forced to accept the alliance. The high priestess had insisted it was necessary to save the world. "Get ready and come quickly to the altar. Everyone is waiting to witness the wedding of their queen," the high priestess instructed before turning and leaving the chamber. Her face remained cold and expressionless, devoid of any joy one might expect on the day of her daughter's wedding.
She went straight to the guest chamber where Kaelvor, the God of Destruction, was staying as he prepared for the wedding.
"High Priestess," Kaelvor smirked as she entered the room.
"Everyone leave. I need a moment alone with God Kaelvor," the high priestess commanded. The lunar royal servants, who had been attending to Kaelvor, quickly bowed in respect and exited the room.
As the door closed, Kaelvor's smirk faded, replaced by a serious expression. "Why the sudden rush for this marriage?" he scowled.
"Alpha Zander," the high priestess stated simply.
At the mention of the name, Kaelvor's eyes flickered with a flash of nervousness, of course, because of a different reason, though he quickly masked it with indifference.
"What about him?" he asked sharply.
"He has realized Selena is his mate," the high priestess replied calmly.
Kaelvor stiffened, his gaze
hardening as the words sank in. For a moment, disbelief flickered across
of the
his face. In all the realms, no one remembered the first true mates, When the realms had forgotten what had truly happened, no one remembered the first true mates. That's why Kaelvor was shocked upon hearing that Selena was the
Alpha King's mate.
"She's the Alpha King's mate?!" he repeated. "Why didn't you tell me this sooner? I'm worried about what he'll do when he finds out I married his mate."
"Alpha Zander is no match for you, God Kaelvor," the High Priestess replied, her voice dripping with flattery. "You don't need to worry. Once the marriage is complete, he won't be able to do anything."
Kaelvor seemed somewhat
reassured by her words. Though he was the God of Destruction, the tales of Alpha Zander's bravery still weighed heavily on him. He knew how fearless Zander was-so
fearless, in fact, that even
fel
gods
could fear him. Zander was à force to be reckoned with, his power rivaling that of the divine despite lacking godlike abilities. Kaelvor seemed momentarily reassured by her words, though there was still a lingering unease in his eyes. Despite his title as the God of Destruction, the stories of Alpha Zander's bravery and power had made an impression on himo Zander's fearlessness was legendary, and even a god like
Kaelvor couldn't dismiss the aura of
power he carried.
"But we need to move quickly," the high priestess continued. "We must complete the wedding before Alpha Zander has a chance to interfere."
"Yes, let's finish this quickly," Kaelvor said, knowing that once the marriage was complete, Selena's power would merge with his, making him even more powerful-more powerful than any god or goddess in the universe.
The two of them proceeded to the wedding altar, and soon Selena appeared. The crowd gathered around them, eager to witness the sacred union. The high goddess stood between them, ready to guide them through their vows. But just as the ceremony was about to begin, a guard rushed in with a messenger from the council.
"This wedding cannot proceed," the messenger announced. "Alpha Zander has filed an objection and opened a case against Selena Ardolf, the Queen of the Lunar Realm, for fraud and infidelity. He demands that she appear before the Council as soon as she receives the summons."
Selena's jaw dropped at the accusations directed at her. The charges were serious enough to place her under the council's supervision, confined to the council house until further proceedings and judgment. Kaelvor and the high priestess exchanged a look of despair, realizing that underestimating Alpha Zander had been their biggest mistake.
Chapter 619
*Selena*
The wedding was halted, and when I was summoned to appear before the Council for my trial, I didn't even have time to change out of my wedding dress-a traditional royal attire of the Lunar Realm.
I glanced down at the silver blouse, its snug fit and intricate embroidery catching the light. The flowing silk skirt swayed gracefully around my legs as I moved and its elegance was undeniable. A delicate veil, pinned at the crown of my hair, trailed behind me, secured by a crescent moon clip. The diamond jewelry I wore sparkled brilliantly, perfectly complementing the attire and completing the regal look.
I must have looked like the most beautiful bride today because Zander's gaze hadn't faltered for even a second since it landed on me. His expression was one of pure astonishment, his eyes wide and unblinking. My cheeks grew warm, and I was certain they were flushed as red as a ripe tomato. His gaze roamed over me, slow and deliberate, filled with raw hunger.
I fought the urge to squirm under his openly possessive stare. It was both thrilling and ironic to see him look at me this way, especially while I stood there wearing a wedding dress meant for another man. Arena was just as thrilled to see him as I was, and for a moment, I wanted to run straight into his arms, forgetting everything I had once promised about my obligations to the Lunar Realm. Huh, such a horny wolf I had for myself. But I couldn't blame her for feeling this way, because with the way our mate looked, it was natural for a woman to desire him. Goddess, how was it even fair that he had to look so irresistible?
But wasn't he the one who had sent those summons and demanded my presence before the council? Mate, huh?! I hadn't forgotten that he was one of the council members, the most powerful alpha-the Alpha King of the North.
"Queen Selena," the council head said, drawing my attention. "Alpha Zander has made accusations against you, claiming that despite being aware that you are his mate, you are planning to marry a god. Do you accept these accusations?"
I took a deep breath, unsure how to explain myself to the council. I couldn't disclose that the Lunar Realm was in danger and what my true purpose was behind marrying the god Kaelvor. I wasn't allowed to reveal the prophecy or the reason behind my birth. It would be far too dangerous if the other realms learned of it. They would seek to destroy the Lunar Realm before the doom day, and rule over the land I was supposed to protect.
"Who I marry is my decision, and no one has the right to intervene," I stated with authority.
"No, mate. You can't marry another man while I'm still alive," Zander stood, his lustful gaze replaced by a frown. "Either kill me and marry him, or marry me and be my Luna, live by my side."
I bit back a smile. Always so confident that was one of the things that made me fall in love with him more every time I heard his voice.
I glanced at my mother, and she gave me a look that reminded me to stay strong in my resolution, not to be swayed by my hot alpha mate.
"I accept neither of those options. I am a descendant of the Moon Goddess, and don't consider you worthy to marry me and rule by my side," I bit the inside of my cheek as said the e. He was the only one ever wanted, and he was everything to me. Having him in my life meant I needed no one else. But I had to say these hurtful words to make him back off and let me go. Arena growled in my head in pain, though she also knew why I said those words to our mate. But seeing the pain on his face made her feel despair.
His face fell, and for a moment, I thought he had accepted his defeat. I wasn't sure if I wanted him to feel that way. No matter if I won or lost, I never wanted to see that defeated look on his face.
But just as I thought it was over, Zander's intense gaze lifted to meet mine, and I saw a spark of determination in them.
"Then give me a chance to prove I'm
worthy of you," his declaration left
me speechless, and the entire council was filled with murmurs.
"Yes, that's a fair deal."
"Alpha Zander is right."
"He deserves a chance."
Holy hell. Now what could I say to sway the council's verdict in my favor?
Chapter 620
"Alpha King Zander is already betrothed to Alpha Albert's daughter, and Queen Selena is promised to God Kaelvor. It's only fair to proceed with the planned arrangements and not disrupt them simply because the Alpha King suddenly realized he is the mate of our queen," the High Priestess argued firmly in my favor. She cast a sharp, instructive glance my way, urging me to speak. But I remained silent, unsure why I felt compelled to hold my tongue.
"High Priestess, how can you say that?" Zander retorted, his tone filled with fury. My gaze lingered on the imposing figure of my mate, the Alpha King, as tension filled the air. A deep unease settled in my chest, knowing that a conflict between my mother and my mate was brewing. If it came to a confrontation, whose side would I even take?
"You know what a mate means to us werewolves!" Zander's thunderous voice echoed through the hall, his words cutting through the murmur of the council like a blade.
"The times have changed, Alpha King," my mother countered, her voice steady and firm. "Now your mate gets to decide whether she wants to be with you or not."
Whether to be with him or not? My eyes widened in disbelief at the absurdity of the phrase. Of course, I wanted to be with my mate. I loved him deeply, and there was no question about it. Whether it was the dawn of civilization or the most advanced era, I would always choose him-my mate.
"Why don't you ask my mate instead of deciding on her behalf, High Priestess?" Zander growled, his voice dripping with frustration as he turned an accusatory glare toward my mother.
"Queen Selena," the council head interjected, his tone formal and measured, "would you like to make a statement so the council can reach a decision?"
I glanced at my mother, whose sharp stare silently urged me to side with her and let down my Alpha King. Then my gaze shifted to Zander, and the hope flickering in his eyes made my resolve falter. My lips trembled as I bit down on them, feeling utterly torn and conflicted.
'Think about your people and the Lunar Realm, Selena. This is not the time to be selfish or give in to your materialistic desires,' my mother's commanding voice echoed in my head through telepathy.
I knew I had to decide, and quickly. Taking a deep breath, I turned to face the council head.
But before I could speak, the heavy toll of a giant bell signaled the break.
"The trial is on hold until the lunch break," the council head announced, rising from his seat. Everyone followed suit, standing and preparing to leave. When the council head exited the room, the rest of the attendees began filing out for lunch.
I glanced at my mother, and our eyes met briefly.
"I want to go to the ladies' room to freshen up," I said softly. She nodded silently and I stepped out of the council chamber.
The building seemed vast, with high ceilings and endless corridors, making it easy to get lost. I glanced left and right but couldn't spot any signs pointing to the washroom. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I stopped and asked a nearby guard for directions.
"Take a left," he instructed curtly, gesturing down a corridor.
Holding the long skirt of my wedding
dress in my hands, I walked
carefully, making sure not to trip over the flowing fabric. As I reached
the far end of the hallway, I found it silent and vacant, but the ladies' room was nowhere in sight. I noticed another left turn and took it, hoping to find what I was looking for. I desperately needed a few moments of privacy to gather my thoughts. Being alone and away from him would help me strengthen my resolve to reject my mate and return to the Lunar Realm.
As I walked further, a sudden presence behind me sent shivers down my spine. The next moment, the familiar, intoxicating scent filled my senses. I knew he was there. spun around promptly, but before I could react, a strong hand wrapped around my waist. In the blink of an eye, I was pulled into a nearby corner room, and the door slammed shut behind us.
"What are you doing, Alpha Zander? Someone will see us," I gasped, panting breathlessly, overwhelmed
by the incredible speed he'd shown and the sheer proximity of my irresistible mate.
"I don't care, mate. I want them all to know that you're mine," his low, possessive growl sent shivers through me, making my heart flutter with a mix of nervousness and an unfamiliar, thrilling sensation.
His hard, firm body, clad in a tailored black suit and crisp white shirt, pressed against my delicate form, and I fought the overwhelming urge to writhe under his touch. His intoxicating breath fanned my face as he exhaled heavily, and his piercing blue eyes locked onto mine, leaving me nearly hypnotize@under his spell. Goddess, how was I supposed to fight him when every fiber of my being craved him, longed for him so desperately? I averted my eyes, feeling torn between my feelings and my duty. He tucked a finger under my chin, gently lifting my face to make me look at him.
"Mate, I know you're going to reject me in the council and return to your realm," he whispered, hurt lacing his deep, sensual voice.
I blinked in surprise, wondering how it was possible for him to know what I was thinking.
He moved closer, if it was even possible, because he was already so close that no air could pass between
us.
"Don't do this to me, mate," the begging edge in his voice made my heart ache. Alpha King Zander Blake's ego was bigger than the mountain, yet here he was, willing to put it aside and beg me to stay. "We... we don't belong to the same world, Alpha," I murmured, my voice weak and filled with despair. He exhaled sharply and cupped my face in his large hand. "You belong to me, and I belong to you, mate. Give me a chance to prove it to you."
His voice turned huskier, his lips parting and hovering over mine before closing the gap and capturing my trembling, anticipated lips with his.
