Chapter 11

Dr. Cody was confused. Was Kevin sick? Kevin had a physical exam recently, and everything was normal. Cody couldn't understand what the problem might be.

When Cody entered the office, he noticed Kevin's trousers.

Seeing Cody's strange look, Kevin frowned. "I asked you to check on Norah, not me."

Cody quickly looked away and smiled awkwardly. "Oh, it's nothing. I just saw Norah at the elevator. She seemed upset. Did you two argue?"

Kevin shrugged. "It's normal for women to get upset sometimes."

Cody felt uneasy and chose to sit on the nearby sofa instead of leaving.

Seeing Cody wasn’t leaving, Kevin said, "Norah's gone. You can go back now. I don't need you here."

Cody replied, "I just got here. Let's talk as friends."

Cody touched his nose thoughtfully and said, "Norah has her reasons for being angry. It's normal for couples to have issues. If you resolve them, your relationship can improve. Maybe you should visit the hospital and work on your relationship. Norah won't think less of you."

Kevin's face darkened, and he glared at Cody.

Feeling uncomfortable, Cody said carefully, "Couples need to be patient with each other, but serious issues should be addressed. If there's a treatment, shouldn't it be taken care of?"

Kevin asked calmly, "Did Norah tell you something?"

Cody swallowed hard and said boldly, "She asked me to check your health."

Seeing Cody approaching with a medical kit, Kevin snapped, "Get out!"

Norah returned to the Edwards house, planning to pack her things and leave.

Siena and her friends were playing cards, chatting and laughing about their sons and daughters-in-law. Siena often criticized Norah, praising other daughters-in-law for their good family backgrounds and virtues.

Norah was used to these comments and ignored them as she walked in, not intending to join the conversation.

When Siena saw Norah, she stopped playing and sternly said, "Stop right there!"

Norah paused and looked back. "What is it?"

Siena, looking displeased, scolded, "You're spending too much. You spent a million on my son all at once. Our family is suffering because of you. Think about this family. Which daughter-in-law spends money like you do?"

Norah was confused and felt it was outrageous. "When did I ever spend that much money?"

Since marrying into the Edwards family, she hadn't spent any of their money carelessly. Every penny she spent was her own.

Siena continued, "You're pretending to be innocent. Look for yourself! You spent a million on clothes. How could you? At this rate, our family will be ruined. I can't take it!"

Norah checked her phone and saw a million-dollar charge for women's clothing. She hadn't shopped recently and couldn't believe it.

She said sternly, "I didn't spend that money."

Siena didn't believe her. "If you didn't, who did? Are you saying ghosts did it?"

Norah insisted, "I haven't used my credit card."

Siena accused her, "You're still lying. Who else in this family can use a credit card? If I hadn't linked the family’s credit card, I wouldn't know you spent so much behind our backs. How much have you spent over the years? You owe me an explanation."

Norah knew as long as Siena disliked her, the Edwards family wouldn't feel like home. She didn't want trouble and wouldn't do anything reckless.

Feeling frustrated, she said, "You can check, but don't blame me if you're wrong."

Siena snapped, "What’s your attitude? If it wasn't you, who else could it be? You’ve always been after our family's money…"

"This money was spent by me," Kevin's voice came from the doorway.

Kevin had just arrived home and heard the argument. He walked in with a blank expression.

Norah and Siena turned to him. Siena, caught off guard, said, "Kevin, how could it be you? This is for women's clothing. Are you trying to protect Norah?"

Kevin replied, "It was for Bianca."

Siena fell silent, but Norah's face turned pale. She stared at Kevin with suspicion.

Kevin really spent that much on Bianca! A million for women's clothing! It was clear who he favored.

Norah's lips curled into a slight sneer as she walked upstairs without looking back.

Siena, pondering Kevin's actions, felt better. She said, "Kevin, I don’t mind you spending on Bianca. I just wanted to know."

Kevin, with cold eyes, said, "I lent it to her."

Siena was stunned. "Lent it?"

Kevin warned her, "Stay out of this."

Siena, initially happy, fell silent, seeing Kevin's serious expression. She wisely avoided further conflict.

Norah went upstairs to pack. Kevin's words made her determined to leave the Edwards family.

She knew her place. She didn't want any of the jewelry Kevin had given her, just her own clothes. As she packed, Kevin walked in, seeing her busy with her suitcase. He frowned and asked, "What are you doing?"
