Ch. 261..270
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 261-After the trio ordered their coffee, Andrea Schwartz purposely started a conversation about Grace’s current job in an attempt to hear more about Grace’s current plight and to observe Jason’s reaction.
However, Jason looked unperturbed. It was as if Grace’s answer, which he already knew, could not surprise him at all.
“Grace, why don’t I talk to the boss at the firm? Then you can go back and get a job at the firm. Even if you’re only working as a cleaner at the firm, it’s better than being a sanitation service worker,” Andrea Schwartz said, pretending to be nice.
Grace looked up at Andrea Schwartz, but her eyes grew colder and colder. “I have no intention of changing my job.” “Is that so?” Andrea Schwartz curled her lips. “You’ll probably earn more being a cleaner at the firm than a sanitation service worker. Are you sure you don’t want to think about it?” “I think I know exactly what I’m going to do.” Grace’s tone got colder too.
Andrea Schwartz wanted to say more, but Tyler Barber stopped her. Fortunately, the waiter came to serve their coffee, and the topic was temporarily brought to a half.
“Here. The coffee is expensive. It tastes better when it’s hot,” Andrea Schwartz said.
Jason lifted the coffee gracefully, sniffed the aroma, and took a sip.
Andrea Schwartz looked at the man in front of her and felt that he was just like those idols and celebrities. The mere scene of him drinking coffee was pleasing to the eye.
“Mr. Reed, how did you meet Grace?” Andrea Schwartz asked curiously.
“When it snowed, she took the initiative to talk to me. That’s how we met,” Jason said, smiling.
Huh? Just like that?! That seemed a bit too easy! “Grace pursued you, then?” Andrea Schwartz said again.
Jason glanced at Grace who was sipping milk tea with her head down. “I guess so.” Grace almost spat her milk tea out! When did she do that?
However, at this point, it was clear that Andrea Schwartz had misunderstood her relationship with Jason, so Grace did not bother to explain. It was up to Jason to say whatever he wanted. It did not matter if Andrea Schwartz misunderstood.
“Then Grace is lucky to pursue such a handsome guy. How long have you known Grace?” Andrea Schwartz continued asking.
“A few months, I guess?” Jason rarely had the patience to answer these sorts of questions.
“In that case…” Andrea Schwartz looked at Grace and said seemingly without much thought, “Ever since Grace got out of prison, I’ve been hoping that she can find someone to rely on. After all, her previous prison experience was too devastating for her. Now that she has a boyfriend like Mr. Reed, it’s really…” Andrea Schwartz suddenly stopped in the middle of her sentence. She saw Jason looking at her with a half-smile as if he was aware of all her ideas.
Andrea Schwartz felt as if the rest of the words were stuck in her throat. She could no longer go on.
“Why don’t you go on? It’s really what?” Jason asked, raising his eyebrows.
Andrea Schwartz looked embarrassed and lamely said, “Really… really generous. After all, Grace has been in prison, and a lot of men mind if a woman has been to prison.” “I don’t mind,” Jason said. He then looked indulgently at Grace. “No matter her past, I only want her to stay with me willingly.”
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 262-Grace was stunned. She raised her head in shock, looking into Jason’s rippling eyes.
Andrea Schwartz’s face paled as she gave a hollow laugh. “I didn’t know Mr.
Reed… loves Grace so much. Do you have any plans to get married?” “If she’s willing to marry me, of course I’ll marry her,” Jason said.
Grace only felt her heart twitching wildly as she stared at Jason in disbelief as if she had just heard something unbelievable.
“How is that possible?!” Andrea Schwartz blurted.
Jason lazily glanced at Andrea Schwartz. “What’s impossible?” His eyes were so cold that Andrea Schwartz could not help but tremble while fear seemed to rise from the bottom of her heart.
“All right. Let’s go, Grace.!” Jason walked away holding Grace’s hand.
Grace followed Jason with no object Tyler Barber looked at Andrea Schwartz and said disapprovingly, “Andrea, why did you mention that your friend went to prison? Fortunately, Mr. Reed already knows about it. If he didn’t, it will embarrass them both. They may even break up.” ‘I did it on purpose!’ Andrea Schwartz said bitterly in her heart. When she saw Jason’s cup of coffee that was left on the table, she saw that he had only taken a sip of this expensive coffee.
“Hmph. I think her boyfriend is not as good as he looks. He only took a sip of the coffee before he stopped drinking it. I’m guessing he has never had a good cup of coffee before and doesn’t know how to enjoy the good things.” Andrea Schwartz felt that her guess was right.
A man who did not mind if a woman had been to prison before and was even willing to marry a sanitation service worker was probably just a loser. His only saving grace was that he was pretty good looking.
“Don’t you say that about other people, Andrea.” Tyler Barber frowned slightly.
He did not like his girlfriend to talk about her friends like that.
Andrea Schwartz paid no attention to it. She just called the waiter and tried to pick up the bill, but the waiter said, “Your bill has been paid by the other gentleman’s subordinate earlier.” Subordinate?
Andrea Schwartz blinked her eyes. The man named Jason had subordinates?
Why did they not see them just now?
He… even paid the bill? It was not cheap. Although it was just several cups of coffee, it was still close to 1000 dollars.
The average working-class could not afford it.
Did the guy just pay the bill without saying anything?
Who the hell was this man? Was he showing off or was he actually rich? As Andrea Schwartz thought about this, her expression became more distorted.
On the other hand, once Jason and Grace walked out of the shopping mall, Grace suddenly said, “I won’t take what you said just now to heart. I know you said it on purpose for Andrea Schwartz to hear.” “Your former colleague is not that great,” Jason said.
Grace had nothing to say. If she and Jason were really lovers, then what Andrea Schwartz said just now was clearly meant to create trouble.
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 263-However, you’d better take everything I’ve said to heart,” he said.
Grace was shocked. What did he mean by that? Take it to heart…?
He would marry her if she was willing to marry him. Did he know what that meant?
Grace’s mind was all messed up until they got into the car. Once the car reached the Reed Residence, she followed Jason out of the car and was just about to enter the house when he stopped abruptly.
“By the way, it’s not that I’ve never starved,” he said. “There were times when I was so hungry I thought I would die.” When he was still young, his father passed away, and his body was cremated.
Jason remained in the small shabby house while holding onto the urn filled with his father’s ashes. At that time, he was famished. He was so hungry that he almost lost his strength. He only narrowly missed death.
Finally, a neighbor knocked on the door and offered him something to eat. It was only then did he recover his strength and vigor.
Grace was stunned and looked at him in surprise. When he said this, his light tone made her feel a little distressed.
She thought of the childhood stories he had previously told her when he was still Jay.
His mother left him and his father… died in the snow. Before he joined the Reed family, he must have led a tough life… She could not help but slightly fold her hands that were on the sides of her body.
Earlier when he said those last few words, she even unconsciously wanted to pat his head and comfort him as she used to do before.
However, it occurred to her in the next moment that he was not Jay. He was Jason, someone she was not supposed to touch.
At the Cummins family house, Evelyn was crying out to her parents about the grievances she faced while at the filming site.
“Why should I kneel before Sis in front of so many people? She knows Jason and didn’t tell us. She did that on purpose! She just wanted to see me make a fool of myself!” Evelyn sobbed.
“What? She knows Jason?” Tony Cummins was taken aback. “Which Jason is it? It can’t be Jason from Reed Group.” Few people in Emerald City did not know the name Jason.
As soon as Evelyn saw her father’s excited expression, she knew what he was thinking. “Dad, even if Sis knows Jason now, do you think he’s serious about her? Don’t forget that it was Jason’s fiancee whom Sis ran over and killed. Who knows what he’s thinking.” “That’s right!” Melinda Riley chimed in and said, “I suppose it’s the wealthy’s revenge. He’s probably trying to praise her highly before letting her fall. Isn’t that what happens in a lot of TV dramas?” Their words were like a basin of cold water, instantly putting out the ideas Tony Cummins had in his mind.
They were right. His daughter was only a sanitation service worker who had been to prison. Who was Jason? Could he take a fancy to a sanitation service worker who had been to prison?
“Besides, Sis was deliberately friendly to Brian. This made Brian misunderstand me and think that I have something against her.” Evelyn continued complaining.
“Dad, what kind of older sister will do that? Other people’s older sisters are happy to see their younger sister doing well, but my sister is holding me back!” Tony Cummins frowned.
Evelyn was continuing her efforts. “If Brian breaks up with me because of Sis, I don’t know what I’ll do. I really love Brian, Dad.”
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 264-“Now that Grace can’t get anything good in her life, she doesn’t want Evelyn to live happily either!” Melinda Riley said angrily. “If she ruins Evelyn’s relationship with Brian, I’m going to kill her!” However, Tony Cummins said, “Is there a misunderstanding here?” After all, Grace was also his daughter. It did not matter to him which daughter was going to be with Brian.
The key was that he could be Brian’s father-in-law.
“What misunderstanding can there be? She’s just trying to climb the social ladder!” Melinda Riley said. “How else does she know Jason? Doesn’t she know that she’s an ex-convict? Will anyone take her seriously?” Melinda Riley was now sparing no effort to denigrate her stepdaughter, fearing that this stepdaughter would rob her daughter of a good marriage.
“Evelyn is different. Evelyn is innocent! She is also Brian’s serious girlfriend right now. It’s only natural for her to become the best actress and marry into the Hart family,” The way that Feng Cuie said it made it sound like Evelyn was going to be the queen of cinema tomorrow and instantly become the Hart family’s daughter-in-law.
Tony Cummins nodded and said, “Alright, then I’ll ask Grace to come home and talk to her. I’ll tell her to keep her distance from Brian and not meddle in Evelyn’s affairs.” Evelyn and Melinda Riley looked at each other, their faces bright.
“Thanks, Dad,” Evelyn said. However, she started to look concerned. “But what if Sis won’t listen?” “I’m her father. Unless her last name is not Cummins, she’ll have to do what I say!” Tony Cummins said, looking tough.
Evelyn lowered her head slightly, and a smile tugged at the corners of her lips.
Grace got a call at night from her father, Tony Cummins.
“Grace, you haven’t been back for a long time. Why don’t you come home, and we’ll talk about moving your mother’s grave?” Tony Cummins said.
“Moving her grave?” Grace was stunned.
“Yes, at first your mother was buried in the village cemetery, but now they’re renovating the place. The land is expropriated. A lot of graves there have to be relocated. You were in prison, so you didn’t know about this. The village has already sent out the documents,” Tony Cummins said.
Grace pursed her lips slightly. When her mother died, she did not buy a plot of ground in the public cemetery. Her father asked a friend who was from the village near Emerald City for help. There was a public cemetery in the village, and no money was needed, so her mother was buried there.
When her mother died, her father did not visit her for many years. It was not until later when she studied so hard till she was admitted to a prominent high school and even a prominent university that her father and stepmother went to pay their respects at her mother’s grave.
After she went to prison, her father and his family naturally did not visit her mother’s grave during Tomb Sweeping Day and Winter Solstice Festival.
After getting out of prison and visiting her mother’s grave, she saw that the weeds had grown so much that they almost covered the words on the gravestone. Cracks had also appeared on the gravestone. She thought of repairing the gravestone when she went to pay her respects on Tomb Sweeping Day, but she did not expect to move the grave completely.
“Fine, I’ll go back,” Grace said. She would never have agreed to go back if it had not been to discuss her mother’s affairs.
“Then come back tomorrow night. What do you want to eat? I’ll send your stepmother to prepare it,” Tony Cummins said in a paternal tone, causing Grace to be absent-minded for a while.
He was speaking to her in the same tone as when her career and love life were flourishing back then.
However, after she went to prison, everything changed. She realized that she was only his daughter when she was useful, and when she was useless, not a trace of affection was left.
“No, I’ll come after dinner,” Grace said. She then ended the call and put away her phone.
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 265-Just as she turned around, she noticed Jason leaning against the door. His eyes were fixed on her.
“Who called you?” he asked as he approached her.
“My father,” Grace answered. “I’m going to go home tomorrow night, so can you ask the driver not to pick me up at the Sanitation Service Center?” His eyes glistened thoughtfully. “Do you want me to go back with you?” She looked at him in surprise. Go back with her? Why would he go back with her? Besides, she was going back to deal with her mother’s affairs.
“No, I can go back by myself,” Grace said. “It’s late. I’m going to bed now.” In other words, she was asking him to leave.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, bent down, and picked up a strand of her long hair with his fingers. “Why are you so against me?” She pressed her lips together and gave no answer.
“Then tell me what I must do so that you’ll treat me like you used to.” His breath was fragrant like an orchid, and it sprinkled on her face.
He wanted her to smile lovingly at him and speak gently to him as she had done before. Her eyes used to be full of him as if they were mutually dependent on each other.
Like she used to?
Grace was shocked. “You used to be Jason,” she murmured.
“I can be Jason too. I can be Jason just for you,” he said.
Her heart gave a sudden jerk.
Be Jason just for her? Was that possible?
She should be afraid of him, but why was her heart beating so fast when she heard those words?
He slowly lowered his head, his forehead against hers, “I’ve only said these words to you alone. Will you consider me as Jason again?” Grace barely slept all night as Jason’s words kept echoing in her mind.
Be Jason again just for her? His expression was so serious that it made her feel like he was not playing around.
“Grace, Sidney is asking me about you. He asked who you are and whether you work in the Sanitation Service Center. He said you had a quite a show yesterday and have some big shot backing you. What happened?” Claire Watts asked Grace as soon as she reached.
The Sidney she mentioned was the organizer of the group of extras.
Since Grace was recommended by Claire Watts, it was natural for Sidney to ask her about it. Claire Watts was completely at a loss when she listened to Sidney talk about what had happened on the set the other day.
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 266-If Grace did know some big shot, why would she work as a sweeper at the Sanitation Service Center and even become an extra for money?
“No… Nothing, it’s all over now,” Grace said vaguely. “Claire Watts, I think I might not be suitable as an extra. I won’t do this anymore. Please tell Sidney that I apologize for the trouble. I’ll quit the group chat later.” After all, a lot of people had witnessed the scene yesterday. The entertainment industry was so small, and everyone met frequently. If she became an extra again, she would feel awkward. She might as well just stop right here.
It was a pity that she could no longer use this method to earn extra money. As for now, she could only think of other ways to increase her income.
“I see.” Claire Watts could see that Grace did not want to talk about what had happened yesterday, so she did not ask any more questions. She only said, “I’ll talk to Sidney later, but you’d better give Sidney a heads up before you quit the group chat.” “Will do,” Grace replied.
However, she was more worried about making extra money. After all, she wanted to pay Lina back as soon as she could, and if her grandmother’s medical expenses increased again in the future, it would be very difficult for her.
At the thought of this, she could not help but smile bitterly.
In the past, she only thought that by studying well, she could definitely earn lots of money in the future. However, she was now doing manual labor for money. All the knowledge she gained so many years before and even the laws she memorized were of no use to her now.
She did not know if this was considered as irony.
After getting off work, Grace went to a stall near the Sanitation Service Center for a simple packed lunch.
The lunch box was certainly not as good as the dinner prepared by the chef at Reed Residence, but she ate without any burden or constraint.
This was unlike when she ate with Jason at Reed Residence. She always seemed to be bound by something. A heavy sense of oppression often made her feel like running away.
In conclusion, she could not see through this man. Even if he said that he could be her Jason, she did not know what was the truth and what was a joke.
It was also possible that what happened to her in prison previously had made her fear him. She… was afraid of him.
She feared that she might accidentally annoy him, and he would make her go through that hell again!
Shaking her head, Grace stopped herself from thinking more of it. After eating the food in her hands in a hurry, she took the bus and went back to her family’s home.
However, it was no longer her home.
Grace rang the doorbell, and a moment later, it was Evelyn who opened the door.
“There you are, Sis.” Evelyn looked like a gentle lady, not at all as domineering as when they first met on set.
Grace glanced lightly at her and entered the house.
Melinda Riley greeted her warmly. “Here comes Grace. Your dad and I were just talking about you.”
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 267-Here, sit down first,” Tony Cummins said.
Grace sat down and asked directly, “Where are you going to move Mom’s grave to?” “There’s no hurry,” Tony Cummins said and waved. “Let’s talk about you and your sister first. I’m going to be a peacemaker for you two today. No matter what has happened before, you’re still sisters. As an older sister, you must take care of your younger sister.” Grace frowned slightly. “I just want to know where you’re going to move my mother’s grave.” Tony Cummins was upset. “Didn’t I already say that we’ll talk about this later?
Let’s talk about you and your sister first.” “Sis, if I’ve done something wrong, don’t take it to heart. I apologize.” Evelyn looked sincere.
However, Grace was defensive.
The more Evelyn was acting like this, the more problematic it was.
Sure enough, what Tony Cummins said next also made Grace understand what Evelyn’s purpose was.
“Alright, you’ll always be sisters. You can’t hurt each other over a man,” Tony Cummins said to his eldest daughter. “Brian is your sister’s boyfriend, Grace. You can’t mess with your sister’s relationship. Besides, aren’t you close with Jason now? Then you shouldn’t get between your sister and Brian.” Grace suddenly realized what this was all about.
“I’m not interested in what’s going on between her and Brian. I just want to know where you’ll be moving my mother’s grave.” Grace repeated her question once again.
Tony Cummins fumed. “Are you refusing? Do you really want to get between Evelyn and Brian? I’m telling you, if you ruin Evelyn’s relationship, don’t think about paying respects to your mother’s grave for the rest of your life!” Grace stared coldly at her father. “It’s not up to me to refuse or not. If Brian really likes her, no one can take him away from her. If Brian isn’t serious about her, she won’t be able to keep him no matter how hard she tries!” “What do you mean?” Melinda Riley was anxious. “Are you cursing our Evelyn because you won’t be able to marry Jason? Our Evelyn is not like you. She’s innocent and has no criminal record. She’s going to be the best actress someday, not like you.” “Since you think she is different from me, let her conquer Brian on her own,” Grace said coldly.
She did not quite understand why Brian chose Evelyn as his girlfriend in the first place. Was it really out of love? It seemed not. If it was, he would not have let Evelyn kneel on the set in front of so many people.
Even though it was Jason’s idea, but with Brian’s background, he did not have to fear Jason!
Besides, Grace had seen how Brian treated his ex-girlfriends. Maybe sentimental people were actually the cruelest. She did not think Evelyn would really be Brian’s last girlfriend.
“I only came here today on account of the relocation of my mother’s grave! You can give me the grave relocation documents and the household register. I will move my mother’s grave myself,” Grace said. As a matter of fact, her household register had not been removed from the family.
However, if she did move out, she did not know where to put her household register. She did not have any real estate in Emerald City, and she could not put herself under the Sanitation Service Center’s collective household register. As for her grandmother’s… Her first uncle and the rest would probably think that she was trying to split the relocation money and would not agree at all.
Suddenly, Grace felt so isolated because she did not even have a place to stay.
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 268-“All you talk about is your mother! You don’t want anything good to happen to your sister. You sure are your mother’s good daughter!” Tony Cummins said angrily and stormed straight into the room. Moments later, he came out with a photo album.
Grace shivered. That photo album was… her mother’s photo album. It contained many photos of her and her mother!
She saw Tony Cummins take out a lighter and lit the album on fire. “Since you don’t want anything good to happen to your sister, I don’t need to give you this photo album. Your mother wouldn’t have wanted a daughter like you!” The album burst into flames, and Tony Cummins threw it straight onto the tiled floor.
Grace almost let out a scream. She pulled her sleeves over her hands to try and swat out the flames as best as she could.
It could not burn. It could not!
The photos inside were all memories of her and her mother! The photo album could not be burned like this!
Grace did not even know how long she screamed for. She only kept beating the flames with her hands even though they were burning her.
At this moment, she was just like a madman!
The way she looked left Tony Cummins, Melinda Riley, and Evelyn horrified.
Finally, when the flames were out, Grace looked at the burnt album and realized that her face was full of tears.
She staggered, held the album in her arms, and looked up coldly at the man she was supposed to call her father.
This man could treat the relics of his wife so carelessly… This was the belonging of a woman whom he had made a lifelong promise to. It became obvious now that her mother was no longer in his heart at all.
The so-called love would dissipate without even the smallest trace left.
Grace’s pretty and elegant face was a mess that was soaked with tears, but her almond-shaped eyes were still staring at him coldly.
Tony Cummins was slightly taken aback by her daughter’s stare, but he managed to keep his posture by saying, “You… Why are you looking at your father this way? I’ll burn the album if I want to.
What can you do about it?” Grace burst out laughing, but her eyes grew colder. “If Mom was still alive, she would surely wonder why she married a jerk like you!” “Is that what you should be saying right now?” Tony Cummins raised his hand in anger and slapped Grace hard in the face.
Grace stumbled backward. She quickly regained her footing while the tattered photo album remained clutched in her arms.
“You’re not worthy to be her husband! If you had any affection.
for her, you wouldn’t have burned this album!” Grace said sarcastically.
She staggered out of the Cummins family’s house, clutching her photo album.
The three people in the house looked at each other.
“Why did you burn it like that? What if she hadn’t put out the fire, and it really burned her? Wouldn’t it have been fatal?” Melinda Riley said with trepidation.
“It won’t burn that easily.” Tony Cummins was still angry and felt that his authority as a father had been disrespected. “If it did, she would have brought it upon herself!” “Isn’t she with Jason now? Do you think she’s going to complain to Jason and get even with us?” Melinda Riley said anxiously.
“Don’t she dare!” Tony Cummins said, glaring. “After all, I’m still her father. Get even? If she dares to get even, I’ll make sure she never finds her mother’s grave!” Nearby, Evelyn lowered her head. Her eyes were gleaming a little. She was just feeling sorry that the fire had not burned
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 269-She would have been overjoyed if Grace got burnt until she was completely disfigured. At least Brian would not go after a woman who was disfigured.
What a pity that it did not happen!
Grace did not know how she got downstairs. She felt as if she was exerting all her strength with every step.
Her hands that were holding the photo album kept shaking because she was so perturbed.
She did not even dare to go through the photo album to see the extent of the damage.
These were all her memories-memories with her mother!
When she stumbled to the entrance of the neighborhood, a figure quickly approached her.
“What’s the matter with you?” The slightly anxious voice rang over her head with an unconcealed worry.
She felt as if she was enshrouded in a shadow. A pair of arms. quickly moved to support her tottering body.
Who was it? Who was holding her up?
Grace slowly raised her head, and the first thing that came into her eyes was those extremely beautiful eyes. They were like charming peach blossoms, so beautiful that they could even ignite fear. Those dark pupils were like obsidians, so black and bright, but they seemed so deep that people could not see through them.
“What’s the matter with you?” He frowned, looking at the traces of tears on her face. He felt as if his heart had been pulled by something.
She stared at him. Suddenly, she smiled sadly. “Jay…” she murmured the name. How long had she not called him by that name?
It had only been a few months, but it seemed like a long, long time.
However, now she seemed to have only Jason in her eyes- the Jason who was mutually dependent on her, the Jason she could rely on, the Jason who could keep her warm.
His expression suddenly froze. He then softly said, “I’m here.” “Jason, I… I’m tired…” she murmured, too tired to walk on. She did not even have the strength to cry anymore.
He bent down, picked her up abruptly, and went over to the car not far away.
She stayed quietly in his arms, not struggling. She looked just like a quiet doll.
He carried her to the car and looked down at the half-charred photo album she was holding in her arms.
Suddenly, his eyes narrowed as he stared at her hands. He told the driver to go to the hospital.
“What’s wrong? What the hell happened?” Jason asked.
However, Grace did not answer. She only clutched the photo album in her arms as hard as she could.
He felt an inexplicable pain in his chest. If he had known that her trip home would turn out like this, he would have gone back with her no matter what.
A faint light flickered in his eyes at this thought.
At the hospital’s entrance, Jason got out of the car with Grace in his arms. He hurried over to the emergency room
My Gorgeous Wife is an Ex-Convict Chapter 270-Grace remained silent and was extremely quiet as if she was lost in a world of her own. It was only when the doctor was about to pull the photo album out of her hands that she seemed to suddenly come to her senses. She clutched it tightly. with both hands while screaming, “No!” “He’s not taking it. He just wants to see the injuries on your hands,” Jason said softly. “Sis, give it to me so that the doctor can take a good look at the injuries on your hands, okay?” Hearing the word ‘sis’, she finally turned her eyes to him. “Jay…” she murmured.
“It’s me,” he replied. “Tell me, what the hell happened?” Her lips trembled, and the tears in her eyes gushed out once again. “Burned… The photo album with all of Mom’s photos… All burned.” She choked on her words. Each fluttering of her curled eyelashes seemed to bring more tears.
Jason was shocked. This half-burnt album… Was this a photo album of her and her mother?
After spending so much time together, he knew how important her mother was to her.
The doctor was finally able to inspect Grace’s hands, and upon seeing them, he immediately began treating the wounds. before dressing them.
The back of her hand was still bruised from last time, and with her new wounds now, both of her hands had to be covered with gauze.
All the while, Grace remained silent as if she felt no pain. However, the more she was like this, the more people felt sorry for her.
Jason pulled out a handkerchief that he carried everywhere with him. He wiped the tears from Grace’s face. “Stop crying…” Her tears made him miserable and helpless. Even if he ruled Emerald City, no amount of money or power could bring back that prized photo album of hers.
All he could do right now was wipe away her tears… “There are some burns, but fortunately, they’re not serious. You just can’t get your hands wet, and you need to change the dressing once a day,” the doctor said.
“There won’t be any effects after this?” Jason asked.
“They’re only superficial wounds. There is no nerve or muscle damage, but I’m afraid there will be some scarring,” the doctor said.
Jason’s brows could not help but furrow.
After her hands were bandaged, Grace insisted on holding the half-burnt photo album in her arms again. It was as if she was holding her treasure.
Jason tightened his thin lips and picked up Grace once again. Then, he strode out of the emergency room and headed back to his car.
“Don’t worry about the scarring. Wait till your hands get better, and I’ll get an expert to remove the scars for you,” he said.
She slowly raised her head, and her eyes fell on his face.
There were still tears on her lashes, but her eyes seemed to be gradually restoring clarity. After a long time, she said, “Sorry, I lost my composure earlier.” When she had been overwhelmed by her emotions earlier, she saw him as Jason and cried to him… Was it because it had been too painful to bear? Was that why she got confused?
“There’s nothing to be sorry for. You can always feel free to lose your composure in front of me,” he said.
