Chapter 1501 A Substitute

The hours flew by quickly, and before they knew it, it was Asel's second birthday. Timothy didn't go to work that day. Instead, he and Johanna took a few kids to the amusement park for a day of fun.

When they returned home after four in the afternoon, the people Timothy had hired had already decorated the mansion with furnishings for a fairy-tale-themed birthday party.

Armand wasn't busy in the afternoon, so he knocked off work two hours early. He came to the mansion to personally cook a birthday feast for Asel. With him and Cooper around, there was no need to hire a kitchen helper.

Timothy also came into the kitchen to help. "I'll take care of the pork loin dish," he said.

"Can you handle it?" Cooper gave him a glance, "I heard from Genev that the spaghetti bolognese you made a few days ago left her traumatized. She's scared to spaghetti bolognese now."

"That's a bit of an exaggeration," Timothy said, scratching his brow. "I've been working overtime with a teacher these past few nights to improve my cooking skills. I guarantee there's been progress."

Armand said, "Just make it first and let us taste it. If it's not delicious, we won't serve it. We don't want to spoil the mood."

While Timothy was working, he started chatting with Armand about the events that had occurred in the small county town over the past few days.

He vividly recounted how he dismantled a den of underworld figures, showcasing his charisma in front of Johanna. Johanna admired him so much that she wanted to sleep in his arms every night.

Cooper didn't expose his lie. Instead, he said, "Not bad at all. Keep up the good work."

"Armand, how is Jerry doing?" Timothy turned to look at the busy Armand. "Yesterday, Jessica came to my office and enquired about news pertaining to Lottie."

Unlike Armand, who was involved in politics, Timothy had limited access to information.

The Jensen family and the Benson family had a good relationship, so Armand was afraid to tell Timothy anything lest the latter chose to spill the beans to Jessica. "If she asks you again, just say that Charlotte and her boyfriend have settled abroad."

Timothy glanced at Armand again, suspecting that things had taken a turn for the worse. He wanted to ask something, but in the end, he didn't.

Apart from washing vegetables and peeling garlic, Timothy's other kitchen task was making the roasted pork loin. Using a normal pan, the dish could be ready in just twenty minutes.

He took the pork loin out of the oven and handed a fork to Armand. "Give it a try."

Armand looked at the beautifully plated pork loin, but it reminded him of Timothy's spaghetti bolognese. Just as he was about to ask Cooper to come over, Cooper quickly emerged from the kitchen carrying two plates of food.

Armand had no choice but to brace himself and take a bite of the roasted pork loin. Surprisingly, it tasted quite good.

"It seems your nights haven't been wasted."

Upon hearing Armand's words, Timothy understood. He also picked up a piece to taste, then raised his eyebrows high. "I knew it! How could someone as smart as me not learn how to cook!"

Once everyone arrived at the dining room to eat, Timothy deliberately placed the plate of roasted pork loin near Johanna. He picked up a piece for Asel.

Asel had grown teeth, and the pork loin was so tender that it could melt in one's mouth.

"Sweetheart, this is a special birthday meal that Dad cooked just for you. Is it tasty?"

Asel was very polite, her voice soft and childlike as she said, "It's delicious! You're the best, Daddy!"

Timothy kissed his beloved daughter twice, then served Johanna a piece of pork loin. "Jojo, you should also taste my cooking."

Genevieve playfully asked, "Mr. Jensen, can we eat this pork loin? Also, seeing how affectionate you two are as a couple, it seems like we're intruding. Should we leave?"

Timothy ignored her teasing, picked up the plate of roasted pork loin, and passed it over. "Here you go, Mrs. Faulkner. Please enjoy."

It was only then that Genevieve picked up a fork to try a piece of pork.

After swallowing that morsel, she realized that Asel wasn't just flattering Timothy-the food actually tasted quite good. She quietly asked Armand, "Did he just serve us ready-made dishes?"

That ghastly spaghetti bolognese Timothy made the last time was barely edible, yet his culinary skills improved dramatically in such a short time.

"I've been watching him in the kitchen. It really is his handiwork." Armand plated some salad into her small plate. "Men have a special kind of determination. As long as it's something that pleases their wives, no matter how difficult it is, they can learn it."

Genevieve pouted. "Isn't my cooking also a way to win your heart? I have determination too, so why is it not okay when I cook?"

Armand chuckled lightly. "This just proves that you were born to enjoy life. You're not cut out for this kind of rough work."

In an instant, Genevieve was utterly charmed by him, her heart blooming with joy.

Chapter 1502 She Is Not Dead

Amanda had just picked up another chicken wing from the plate and was nibbling on it when she noticed her brother rubbing his eyes. She leaned over and asked, "Lucian, what's wrong?"

"It's nothing. My eyes are just a bit itchy," said Lucian as he applied a warm towel to his eyes.

Ever since Lucian accidentally fell down the stairs due to the itch in his eyes, his eyes would inexplicably itch from time to time, only to feel better after a while.

Genevieve took him to the ophthalmologist for a thorough examination, and there were no symptoms of bacterial infection.

Upon hearing this, Amanda picked up the serving bowl and spooned a generous amount of shredded carrots and spinach into his bowl. "Carrots are good for your eyes, Lucian. You should eat more."

Lucian stared at the portion of shredded carrots in his bowl, his face gradually becoming impassive.

He absolutely detested eating carrots.

Everyone was enjoying their meal when Armand's phone rang. After answering the call, his expression changed. He then told everyone that he had some matters to attend to.

Genevieve followed him to the entrance, took off his coat for him, and asked, "Mando, what's wrong?"

"The reinforcements Sebatian called for have arrived in Xedells. Right now, the Pann family is in chaos, and it's even affecting the nearby residents," Armand said in a low voice.

Xedells had long prohibited the private possession of firearms and had consistently been cracking down on crime. If the internal strife within the Pann family escalated, it was going to be troublesome if the government chose to step in.

The Pann family served as the dedicated bodyguard team for the Hompton family. Armand did not want Nigel to be implicated and lose his position.

Genevieve cautioned, "Be careful, Mando."

After celebrating Asel's birthday and eating the cake, it was already eleven o'clock.

Genevieve brought the two little ones home.

On the way back, Lucian suddenly asked Genevieve, "Mommy, did Daddy leave because he received a call from Mr. Jerry?"

"Yes, your dad has gone to Xedells." Given that Lucian had always been a smart boy, Genevieve didn't see the need to hide it from her son.

"Why is that?" asked Amanda out of curiosity.

Genevieve gently patted her little head and explained simply, "Because Mr. Jerry's family doesn't like his girlfriend, who is Ms. Charlotte. Mr. Jerry had a fight with his family."

Lucian pursed his lips and said, “That time when Daddy, Cooper, and Uncle Tim were cooking in the kitchen, I heard them say that Ms. Charlotte had passed away. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, the drawing room is quite close to the kitchen, and I happen to have a good ear."

Amanda's eyes widened again. "Is Ms. Charlotte really dead?"

The two children were talking back and forth, leaving Genevieve at a loss for words. "Yes, that's right. Mr. Jerry had a big fight with his family. Your dad was worried something might happen, so he went over to help."

Lucian asked, "What if Ms. Charlotte isn't dead?"

Genevieve and Cooper were both taken aback, but it was Cooper, who was driving, that reacted quickly. He asked Lucian, "Luc, why do you think Ms. Charlotte is still alive?"

"Because of this." Lucian opened the tablet and handed it to Genevieve.

Ever since the incident with Harry, Armand had been particularly concerned about the safety of the two little ones.

Coincidentally, Forlisle Medical had invested a significant amount of research and development funds into one of his medical laboratories. They had developed a life sign monitor. With current technology, this monitor could be made as small as a fingernail and could be implanted in the arm.

If the body is on the brink of death, the monitoring system was programmed to send out a warning to alert the emergency contact set by the individual.

If there were no signs of life in the body, the little green dot on the system was set to turn gray.

Genevieve looked at the green dot on the monitoring system. Surprised, she asked Lucian, "How did you know she was wearing a vital sign monitor?"

"Because of me!" Amanda immediately raised her hand to answer, "That day, Lucian and I went to the hospital to get this. We happened to run into Ms. Charlotte. Ms. Charlotte was afraid I would cry, so she stayed with me while I got the injection."

Upon learning that Charlotte was not dead, Genevieve immediately called Armand to inform him about these matters.

After hanging up the phone, Genevieve held Lucian's face and gave him a hearty kiss. "You truly are my son! You're so smart! Otherwise, a great battle would have broken out in Xedells."

"Mommy, what about me?" asked Amanda.

"You're also great, Mandy." Genevieve hugged her precious daughter and gave her a kiss. "Would you like me to make you a red velvet cake tomorrow?"

Amanda quickly waved her hands in fear, stammering, "No, no, no!" This amused Genevieve to the point of laughter.

Chapter 1503 Your First Client

Following Asel's birthday celebration, Johanna also redirected her attention toward her studio responsibilities.

Genevieve Orsi had connections with prominent names in the fashion realm. Holding the title of fashion director at Genevieve Orsi, Johanna found it convenient to acquire exclusive clothing pieces or secure dresses on loan from different brands.

During the time she didn't visit the studio, the construction crew displayed remarkable efficiency, and the second-floor renovations were nearly finished.

In the afternoon, Johanna drove to the dessert shop to purchase some treats, with the intention of rewarding the diligent workers.

The dessert shop was somewhat bustling. Johanna located a spot and settled in, patiently awaiting her turn. While engrossed in reading a few WhatsApp messages from Genevieve, she was abruptly interrupted by someone calling her name.

"Johanna, long time no see."

Johanna raised her gaze, her memory serving her well, and combined with the man's relatively unchanged appearance, she swiftly identified him. Surprise laced her exclamation, "Zander?"

"We were only classmates for a year; it's astonishing that you still recall me," Zander remarked with a smile.

Johanna promptly signaled the waiter over. After Zander placed his coffee order and the waiter left, Johanna finally spoke up. "It's because you resemble Hugh Grant, quite dashing, and your distinctive approach to pursuing Genevieve left an impression. I suppose there's hardly anyone in the class who doesn't recall it."

Zander cast a glance at Johanna before suddenly remarking, "You've undergone quite a transformation. I recall during our studies, you were akin to a spirited pixie, always sticking close to Genevieve after classes."

Johanna, in her current form, radiated subtlety reminiscent of a wisp of smoke, her features displaying a refined delicacy. Her manner exuded a calm and peaceful aura.

Taking a sip of her coffee, she offered a slight smile and said, "They say we transform as we grow older, and I'm no longer the young girl I once was. Naturally, I've outgrown the exuberance of youth."

As old classmates, Johanna and Zander shared a camaraderie that translated into their conversations flowing effortlessly, free from any discomfort or tension.

Upon discovering that Johanna had established her own styling studio, Zander responded, "This is excellent timing. I have a significant event to attend tonight. Could you assist me with my styling? Since we're former classmates, I'll endorse your business by becoming your first client. Can I possibly get a discount?"

Given his polite demeanor and their shared history as classmates, it proved a bit challenging for Johanna to decline. "Well, I suppose I could, but my studio isn't entirely set up yet," she replied.

"No worries. It's okay to use someone else's turf."

Upon hearing this, Johanna found it hard to resist any further. She inquired further with Zander about the specifics of the banquet he was attending and the dress code in place.

Once their desserts arrived, Johanna first made a stop at the studio before guiding Zander to the mall to select appropriate formal attire.

While Zander may not measure up to a height of 188 cm, he still possessed a tall and slender physique reminiscent of a male runway model. His proportions would allow him to effortlessly don limited-edition garments from prominent brands.

Upon entering the store, Johanna assisted Zander in selecting a smoke-grey, notch lapel formal ensemble.

Standing in proximity to Zander, she meticulously evaluated the fit of the attire, ensuring it complemented him appropriately and didn't require any adjustments. She was so absorbed in her task that she remained oblivious to someone outside the store covertly capturing pictures with their phone.

Timothy's schedule was packed for the day. Originally, he intended to wrap up his tasks in the afternoon and leave work early to prepare dinner himself for Johanna and Asel at home.

As luck would have it, a director from a foreign company with a substantial collaboration with Forlisle Medical was present in Jadeborough on business. He extended an invitation to Timothy for a dinner meeting to delve deeper into their work discussions. Following the conclusion of his tasks, Timothy made his way to Jazona Clubhouse.

The group's meal within the private dining room stretched on until half past eight.

Upon exiting the establishment, Timothy and his secretary accompanied the directors to their vehicles. While his secretary retrieved his car, Timothy stood on the verge of stepping inside.

A hurried figure approached, calling out, "Timothy."

Having spent so much time in the entertainment industry, Xylia had acquired a distinct star quality through years of physical conditioning. With her raven-black hair and vivid red lips, she radiated a captivating allure.

"A producer invited us to dine here. I didn't expect to run into you. It's hard to get a taxi around here. Could you give me a ride?"

Clad in a delicate knitted dress, Xylia appeared to shiver faintly in the chilly night breeze. Following her words, she extended her hand to unlatch the car door.

Chapter 1504 Disgusting

Timothy gripped her wrist, a displeased furrow creasing his brow. "If you can't manage to find a taxi, step outside and attempt to hail one. Why should I be the one to offer you a ride?"

"But I'm your girlfriend-" Xylia began, faltering under the weight of the man's somber expression. She swiftly corrected herself, "Ex-girlfriend. Given our previous connection, you should at least see me off."

"If you were to pass away, I'd pay homage to our history by procuring a golden coffin for you," Timothy retorted.

Xylia's complexion paled in response to the man's derisive words. She was on the verge of responding when Timothy's voice turned icy, "I've already made it clear to you-I don't want to see you again. Did you treat my words as mere whispers in the wind?"

Recognizing the genuine anger in the man's demeanor, Xylia swiftly interjected, "I have something to tell you, and it's about your wife."

Upon hearing this, Timothy narrowed his eyes. "Did you go to see her?"

"I wouldn't dare! A reporter actually witnessed your wife shopping with a senior executive from Ingenuity Entertainment in the store," Xylia explained, producing her phone and displaying the photo to Timothy.

The photos were captured in high definition, providing a clear depiction of the two individuals featured in them.

Not only did Johanna assist in the man's attire selection, but she also unfurled the suit jacket for him and adjusted his collar. Their proximity and actions exhibited an intimate connection. The final image captured Johanna standing on her tiptoes, enveloping the man in an embrace, seemingly in a kiss.

Upon laying eyes on the photo, a sharp pang jolted at the corner of Timothy's eyes. Suddenly, he swatted Xylia's phone out of her hand.

Bending down to retrieve her phone, Xylia managed to discreetly observe Timothy's stern countenance. Inwardly, she congratulated herself on the efficacy of the photos she had acquired.

Addressing Timothy, Xylia began, "The man captured in the photograph is the recently appointed general manager of Ingenuity Entertainment, responsible for the artist department. This position has attracted considerable attention from journalists. The reporter who snapped the picture happens to be a close friend of mine. My initial intention was to obtain some juicy information from him, but I never anticipated the subject of the gossip to be Mrs. Jensen."

Timothy stood in contemplation for a significant duration before finally stating, "Tell him to dispose of the negatives."

"The media has been unrelenting in their pursuit of information about Mr. Foxx from Ingenuity Entertainment. Having stumbled upon this revelation, they won't simply overlook it," Xylia murmured. "Besides, I don't have the means to convince them otherwise."

Timothy requested his secretary for a checkbook, and after writing a check, he handed it over to Xylia. Her eyes lit up with a noticeable intensity upon glimpsing the amount.

While Xylia accepted the check, Timothy's gaze bore a frigid intensity. "Should I ever encounter these photos online, rest assured, not only will that journalist lose their job, but you will as well," he declared with icy resolve.

"I understand," Xylia said, accepting the check.

She cast a sidelong glance at Timothy and nonchalantly commented, "Even if Mrs. Jensen and Mr. Foxx are friends, don't you think they're standing a tad too close? It almost appears as if they're..."

"Timothy, please don't consider me overly chatty, but I genuinely loved you, genuinely cared, which compels me to say certain things," Xylia expressed. "On that day at the mall when I ran into you and Mrs. Jensen, I noticed her indifference toward you. You attempted to hold her hand, yet she didn't reciprocate. You're wealthy and handsome. We all perceive you as thoughtful, tender, and empathetic toward your female companions. You're proud, so why should you undermine yourself in her presence?"

Timothy halted his movement toward entering the car, pivoted to face her, and inquired, "Do I need you to lecture me?"

"I feel for you," Xylia murmured, her red lips forming a pout. "She doesn't love you, yet she flirts with other men. Doesn't it hurt to endure this?"

"I know my wife better than you do." Timothy's lips curved into a frigid, sardonic smile. "Do you think I can't tell that the kissing photo was taken from a misleading angle? I bought all the negatives because my wife wishes to maintain her privacy. She also doesn't desire to be fodder for online entertainment due to someone else's actions."

Xylia clenched her teeth and retorted, "Even if the photo was shot from a misleading angle, the reality remains that she's married and embracing other men."

As her words flowed, she advanced a step closer to Timothy. "Tim, if it's love you're after, I can give it to you. I've been thinking about you all these years. Can we get back together?"

"Cease the coquettish behavior. It's repulsive," Timothy retorted, his expression contorting in distaste the moment she addressed him as "Tim."

Chapter 1505 We Are Not Divorced Yet

Timothy gestured with his hand, indicating for Xylia to step back, preventing any accidental collision. "Love is a matter of shared agreement. During our time together, I offered ample resources and handled our breakup with thoughtfulness. I acceded to your every request. Thus, stop playing the victim card and say you wasted your best years on me," he stated firmly.

"Xylia, one must be aware of the times," he said, a cold gleam flickering in his charming eyes. "You cannot afford to bear the consequences of displeasing me."

The man's demeanor left Xylia trembling with fear. She remained rooted to the spot, stunned, even as the car drove away.

Timothy was well aware of Johanna's delicate health condition, and he had full confidence in her loyalty. Yet, witnessing her in such close proximity to other men caused him a sense of unease.

He instructed his secretary to head to Maple Forest.

After pressing the doorbell, Timothy waited for a few moments. Once Johanna opened the door, he inquired without preamble, "How are you acquainted with the general manager of Ingenuity Entertainment? Why were you shopping for clothes for him?"

Johanna was momentarily taken aback, mulling over his words. Her brows furrowed as she questioned, "Did you follow me?"

"I didn't," Timothy denied, his tone resolute. "A reporter had been shadowing Mr. Foxx, and they managed to capture photos of the two of you shopping for clothes in the store. I subsequently acquired the negatives."

"Jojo, why did you help him buy clothes?" Timothy pressed on. "No matter what your explanation is, I'll trust you."

Johanna's lips parted, yet she swiftly sealed them shut. After a brief pause, she adopted a casual tone as she replied, "I bought him clothes because I felt like it. There's nothing more to elaborate on."

Timothy exclaimed in astonishment, "What do you mean? You like him?"

"Can't I?"

"Absolutely not! We're not even divorced yet!" Timothy's voice thundered, his expression growing significantly darker. "How can you be attracted to another man? This constitutes infidelity within our marriage!"

Johanna crossed her arms and regarded him, her gaze carrying a gentle yet detached quality. "I've broached the topic of divorce, but you were unwilling," she stated calmly.

"So this is my fault?"

Johanna neither gave a definitive yes nor a firm no. Instead, she responded, "The scenarios depicted in those photos will likely repeat themselves countless times in the future. If you don't wish to see them, you should divorce me sooner rather than later."

Before Timothy's arrival, he had maintained an unwavering faith in her, anticipating her explanation. Unexpectedly, she proved unrelenting, metaphorically driving a knife into his heart.

He fixed a penetrating gaze on Johanna, whose countenance remained composed, devoid of any playful demeanor.

Overwhelmed by anger, Timothy found himself speechless for a prolonged period. Ultimately, he was the first to avert his gaze, storming away in a fit of indignation.

Upon departing from the apartment, Timothy made a beeline for his car, instructing his secretary to vacate the driver's seat.

Upon catching sight of his demeanor, the secretary deduced that he had engaged in an uncomfortable exchange with Johanna. Approaching him, the secretary intervened, "Mr. Jensen, operating a vehicle while under the influence could result in legal trouble. Allow me to drive you home..."

"I've lost my wife, so what do I have to fear from being detained!" Timothy's frustration was palpable as he shoved his secretary aside and forcefully shut the car door.

As the car sped away, the secretary swiftly retrieved his phone, dialing for additional support.

With the hour now past midnight, the streets were desolate and chilly, while the bar bustled with life. Timothy had secured a private room, where he indulged in a succession of hard liquor shots.

The door to the private room remained slightly open, allowing the thunderous music from the dance floor to filter in. Nevertheless, within him, all that existed was a deep-seated silence.

A while later, Timothy pressed the call button to summon the waiter. His voice, rendered hoarse from alcohol, croaked out, "Step outside and use a megaphone. Whoever can make me laugh, I'll give them ten thousand for each chuckle."

In less than ten minutes, the private room that Timothy occupied became packed to the brim, teeming with a lively crowd.

Everyone eagerly gathered around him, sharing jokes, narrating amusing anecdotes, and contorting their faces into ludicrous expressions, all in an earnest attempt to elicit laughter from him. Nonetheless, Timothy remained unaffected, his brows knit and his visage devoid of emotion.

Upon cotching sight of his demeonor, the secretory deduced thot he hod engoged in on uncomfortoble exchonge with Johonno. Approoching him, the secretory intervened, "Mr. Jensen, operoting o vehicle while under the influence could result in legol trouble. Allow me to drive you home..."

Chapter 1506 What Madness Are You Up To Now

Suddenly, a pair of heavy knocks reverberated on the door to the private room. The figure stationed at the entrance stood tall and lean, exuding an air of understated composure.

"Get out."

His uttered words reached the ears of nearly everyone within the confines of the private room. Not a soul dared to voice a response or challenge his statement; instead, they promptly scattered and exited the

room.

"Armand, do join me for a drink or two." The instant Timothy noticed Armand's arrival, he promptly straightened himself in his seat. Grabbing an empty glass, he dropped in a few ice cubes, poured a measure of brandy, and slid the glass toward Armand.

Armand sat down on the couch next to him, not even glancing at the glass of alcohol.

Seeing him like this, Timothy asked, "You used to accept my wine when I offered it. Why abstain today? Has Genevieve prohibited you?"

"You're aware, yet you still inquire?" Armand replied, his gaze fixed on Timothy.

Timothy indulged in another sip of his beverage, relishing the fiery sensation as it traced its path down his throat. He mumbled, "Why does nobody care about me? Armand, would you watch over me? Tell me to stop drinking."

"Your secretary contacted me," Armand popped open a bottle of mineral water. "What madness are you up to now?"

"Jojo doesn't want me anymore," Timothy murmured, a trace of sorrow tainting his tone. "I remained in Zaidham for a few days, believing I had appeased her. Yet today, she went shopping with another man, even assisting him in selecting clothes. It's been ages since she last helped me in choosing my attire..."

Armand found himself speechless. "Timothy, you're in your thirties, not your teens. Stop behaving like a child."

"Wouldn't you feel aggrieved if your wife was getting close to another man?" Timothy's heart grew heavy as he articulated his thoughts, "She even admitted to having feelings for him, urging me to divorce her sooner."

"Did she tell you that herself?"

Timothy tugged at his lower lip, his tone earnest. "Do you think I'm joking? She expressed a desire to move out, so I consented. I refrained from excessively intruding upon her. I even worked overtime at night to improve my cooking skills, hoping to cook for her."

"I've been so accommodating to her, and I was even willing to endure her silence, yet how could she go off with another man? Am I insufficient?" He posed this query to Armand, while also pondering aloud, "Must I rend open my heart to her, to showcase the depths of my affection?"

Timothy murmured, his head bowed, "Xylia is correct, why should I be so submissive?"

It was his neglect that had permitted Johanna to be entangled with Zephyr once again. After enduring a stretch of insufferable anguish, he recognized his blunder, experienced regret, and had since been striving to make amends.

He had been exceedingly cautious while trying to console Johanna, yet she exhibited no appreciation for his efforts whatsoever.

After Timothy had vented his emotions, Armand ran a hand wearily over his brow and responded, "I've said it before, Johanna's choice to distance herself from you doesn't mean she doesn't love you. Have you ever considered that she might not have anything to do with that guy? When you confronted her in a fit of jealousy over the photo, she might have wanted you to back off, so she intentionally misled you."

"Why would she want me to back off?" Timothy asked.

"I have no idea either!" Armand retorted coldly, looking at the man whose brain appeared to be dulled by the effects of alcohol.

Timothy sullenly downed another glass of wine.

Armand's attention was drawn to the two empty brandy bottles on the table. Concerned that Timothy might succumb to excessive alcohol consumption, he swiftly confiscated his glass and instructed the waiter to procure a hangover remedy.

Armand said, "Didn't you promise not to interfere with her private life? Why did you send someone to follow her?"

"I haven't dispatched anyone to tail her," Timothy slurred, reclining on the couch in an intoxicated stupor. "The man appears to be the general manager of an entertainment company, and there's a journalist shadowing him. I have an ex-girlfriend who had ties with that journalist. Coincidentally, she was dining at Jazona Clubhouse today and crossed paths with me."

Despite his inebriation, Timothy articulated his thoughts with a lucid and rational demeanor.

Hearing this, Armand responded in a meaningful tone, "What a coincidence-the journalist who was tailing that man conveniently shares an acquaintance with your ex-girlfriend, and they even discussed this situation."

"Yeah... How coincidental indeed," Timothy wondered aloud.

The effects of excessive alcohol had clouded Timothy's judgment, leading him to misconstrue Armand's statement. "Xylia doesn't hold much sway in the entertainment industry. That man is rumored to be the general manager of Ingenuity Entertainment. She doesn't have the ability to enlist someone of his stature to stage this for her," he rambled.

"The general manager of Ingenuity Entertainment?" Armand's mind was triggered by a thought, causing him to pivot his gaze toward Timothy. "Is his name Zander Foxx?" he inquired.

Chapter 1507 Target My Wife

Massaging his temples, Timothy inquired, "Xylia refers to him as Mr. Foxx, but I'm uncertain if his name is Zander Foxx. Do you know him, Armand?"

Upon perusing the images on Xylia's phone, he forwarded a copy to his own email. Armand's query seemed to evoke recognition, prompting Timothy to access his email and display a frontal image of the man for Armand's perusal.

Armand cast a brief glance at the photo before letting out a chuckle. "I'm not well-acquainted with him, but my wife is. He was Genev's classmate in high school. He once had a crush on her and actively pursued her. His unique romantic strategies left quite a mark on the entire class," he explained with amusement.

Upon hearing this, Timothy sobered up a bit, "If Genevieve and my wife were classmates in high school, then wouldn't that imply that he's also my wife's classmate?"

"Yep," Armand said nonchalantly. "He's also Charlotte's ex-boyfriend."

Timothy had regained his sobriety, and a realization appeared to dawn on him. He fixed his gaze on Armand, questioning, "The former classmate you spoke of earlier, the one who couldn't let go of Genevieve at the holiday resort-was it this guy?"

"He's no simpleton, and he certainly can't resist charming a lovely lady," Armand paused, then quipped, "Nor would he decline the advances of an attractive gentleman."

"So he's bisexual?" Timothy understood the implications of his words at once. His reaction was swift, clenching his wine glass tightly as his frustration showed through gritted teeth. "Among all the possible choices, why did he have to target my wife?"

Timothy seized the phone from the table, asserting with determination, "I'm going to acquire his company and make him go broke!"

Armand's brow twitched, prompting him to swiftly seize the phone. "Even if he has feelings for Johanna, Johanna wouldn't reciprocate. Can't you use your brain and think about it for a second?"

"Why would she shop for clothes with him then?" Timothy questioned, his sense of injustice evident. "She's even contemplating divorce."

Wordless, Armand felt the urge to snatch the phone and give Timothy a figurative slap of realization.

Enlarging the photo, Armand extended it toward Timothy. "Just look at it. It's formal attire. Why would Johanna be assisting Zander in selecting formal wear?" he queried.

After a brief pause, Armand presented a plausible explanation, saying, "Perhaps Zander got wind of it from the classmates' circle or through Genev that Johanna established her own styling studio. By chance, he had a significant event to attend and wished to back his former classmate, Johanna. However, her studio was still undergoing renovation, hence she guided him to the store for selecting a formal outfit..."

Upon concluding his analysis, Armand retrieved Timothy's phone and dialed his secretary. He instructed him to investigate any scheduled business dinners for the evening and determine if Zander would be present.

The secretary swiftly replied, mentioning an ongoing banquet at Lovely Heart Hotel that evening, and Zander's presence had been confirmed as an invitee by the event organizers.

During the evening, Timothy was engaged in a dinner meeting with his foreign partners, accompanied by his secretary. As Xylia arrived at the scene, the secretary discreetly eavesdropped on their conversation. He comprehended the underlying motive behind Armand's inquiry.

The secretary not only replied to Armand's message promptly but also arranged for photographs of the banquet's interior to be taken and forwarded.

Armand presented his phone to Timothy again, his countenance devoid of emotion as he stated, "Take a look for yourself. Doesn't the suit he's wearing appear to be the one Johanna assisted him in selecting?"

As Timothy absorbed the truth, his previously indignant expression melted away.

After a moment, he turned to Armand once more, his tone curious, "Given that he's only her client, why did Jojo lie to me about having feelings for him?"

"Talking to you is so exhausting." Armand sighed, his energy depleted. He helped Timothy to his feet from the couch.

During the ride, no matter what Timothy rambled on about, Armand maintained his stoic expression and ignored him. After arriving at Timothy's residence and ensuring he was inside, Armand departed for his own home.

As Steven returned to Jadeborough to update Armand, he had barely entered the house when he noticed Armand's car pulling into the garden.

Instead of immediately heading inside, Steven chose to wait for Armand to enter the house and present him with a few documents.

Chapter 1508 Heartless

As Armand examined the documents, Steven took the opportunity to share information with him. "I had our team investigate, and it turns out Scarlette and Zander were part of the same international student group. This group consists of students studying in various universities in Mysonna, all hailing from Hestrya. There's a monthly gathering organized for this group, which allows all the students to participate."

Armand asked, "Did you find out if they were in a relationship?"

"Some people say their relationship was quite ambiguous, but I don't think they've ever dated."

"I've thoroughly the profiles of all the international students in that group, and I've meticulously combed through their social media accounts. Nonetheless, I couldn't uncover any evidence of Zander and Scarlette being photographed together at any gatherings. Considering their potential secret relationship, one would expect them to capture moments when they're out together, right? Additionally, it's unlikely that those around them wouldn't notice any signs of their involvement."

Steven had conducted thorough investigations into several students who shared a close relationship with Scarlette during her time abroad, including her intimate circle of friends in the Xedells circle. Yet, none of them seemed to have any knowledge of Zander's existence.

Armand fell silent, lowering his gaze to peruse the documents in his hand.

A while back, Genevieve had tasked him with probing into the dynamics between Scarlette and Zander. The reason for this was that Charlotte had once witnessed Scarlette and Zander in each other's company, appearing rather close. However, given Charlotte's history of past romantic involvement with Zander, Genevieve held the belief that Scarlette was not Zander's usual type.

Despite having been classmates, Johanna and Zander lost touch after she went abroad for high school, and their communication dwindled significantly.

Armand was perplexed by the fact that Zander had never crossed paths with Johanna in Jadeborough before. They weren't even particularly close, so the question remained: why did Zander coincidentally encounter Johanna on this specific day?

Given the population of Beijing, which exceeded twenty million, the idea that Zander could run into Johanna so easily seemed quite implausible.

Armand's suspicion grew stronger. He considered the possibility that Zander might have known about Genevieve's trip to the holiday resort and deliberately organized a gathering with some old classmates to coincidentally encounter her there.

Apart from the incident at the hot spring resort, Zander never crossed paths with Genevieve again, seemingly showing no further interest in her.

There were too many things that didn't sit right with Armand, but he couldn't connect the dots. He closed the file he had been reading, looking deep in thought. "You should go get some rest, Steven."

"Do we need to continue the investigation?" asked Steven.

"It's fine, it wasn't a significant matter after all," Armand said with a hint of helplessness. "Scarlette and I have known each other since childhood, and Zander used to be Charlotte's boyfriend. Genevieve was just seeking some juicy gossip."

Steven paused for a moment, taken aback by the revelation about Zander and Charlotte. He then composed himself and asked, "Mr. Faulkner, do you think Jerry is worth all this trouble?"

Recalling the events from the night before, when he had accompanied Armand to Xedells to assist, and the things he had witnessed, Steven couldn't help but question why Jerry would go to such lengths for a

woman.

Surprisingly, given Ms. Benson's personality, Jerry had been deeply involved with her for several years, even sacrificing a lot for her. Couldn't he find a woman who was better suited for him than Ms. Benson?

Armand posed a straightforward question, "If your family disapproved of Becca to the extent of killing her themselves, would you simply accept it or would you take action to avenge her?"

Steven responded, "Certainly, I would seek revenge for her. However, this situation is different. Ms. Benson doesn't love him."

"If there wasn't love between them, she wouldn't have been involved with Jerry for such an extended period," Armand remarked with a slight smile. "You might want to investigate whether she has ever rekindled a relationship with any of her previous boyfriends apart from Jerry."

Upon hearing this, Steven expressed his confusion, "Mr. Faulkner, if you understand love so thoroughly, then why did you do that back then?"

"Why do you act like Timothy, constantly dredging up the past?" Armand cast a cold glance at the man. "When I have a wife who discusses such matters with me every night, it's hard not to gain insight into these things."

"Well, why didn't you tell me it was Mrs. Faulkner who told you all those stories?"

Chapter 1509 Where Did You Hear This From

As he watched Armand getting up to go upstairs, Steven seemed to remember something. "I found out that Tyrion's son also studied at Bellridge University, Mr. Faulker, and he seemed to have known Scarlette."

As he watched Armand getting up to go upstairs, Steven seemed to remember something. "I found out that Tyrion's son also studied at Bellridge University, Mr. Faulker, and he seemed to have known Scarlette."

Armand furrowed his brows, deep in thought. "I've heard this name before."

"He's a member of the royal family of Kille, the child of the eldest son who was the old king's lover, with whom he had been entangled for decades," Steven reminded him.

Armand had heard about the affairs of the royal family in Kille.

It was said that the old king was a philanderer even before he was the crown prince, and his father, the former king, had no intention of making him the heir to the throne.

However, he was left without an heir, and the royal constitution was strict at that time; as capable as she was, the princess could not inherit the throne. As the old king was the only son of his predecessor, the former king had no choice but to help him ascend to the throne.

Not long after the old king was named heir to the throne, he got married. It was said that his wife had come from a noble family from Epea. However, she passed away from tuberculosis just a few years into her reign as queen.

"I heard that the old king has been ill for a long time and didn't have many years left, yet he had not named a successor," Steven said, relishing the gossip. "The queen's two children are not up to par, and his four other children with his mistress were vying for the throne. Also, I heard that the queen's children were spoiled by the mistress. The queen had been preventing the royal ministers from amending the constitution, as she did not want the mistress's children to be named as heirs to the throne."

Armand glanced at him. "Where did you hear all this from?"

Armend glenced et him. "Where did you heer ell this from?"

"I found out thet Scerlette is ecqueinted with the eldest son of Tyrion, didn't I?" Steven enswered. "Coincidentelly, Mrs. Sutton wes on e business trip to Kille, so I esked her e few questions. I didn't expect to uncover so much from our conversetion."

The struggle for the crown between the royel femily members of Kille hed nothing to do with Armend, so he did not pey much ettention to it. However, Steven's words stirred something within him.

"Are they merely ecqueintences, or ere they close?" he esked Steven.

"It seems they heve mutuel friends end would chet when they get together, but other then thet, they don't heve much contect," Steven replied. "All the women eround Keiden ere descendents of prestigious Epeen femilies. He espires to be like his grendfether, wishing to merry e women of nobility." "Heving e wife of noble birth by his side could swey the royel ministers in fevor of his fether. If his fether were to become the new king, he would neturelly end rightfully become the crown prince."

The royel femily pleced greet importence on lineege, prioritizing the children of the queen when it ceme to choosing e successor. If the queen's son beceme the new king, her grendson would neturelly be the prime cendidete to become the crown prince.

If the queen's child proved unworthy, however, the royel ministers would consider the king's uncles. If the uncles elso proved incompetent to shoulder the responsibility, the royel ministers would heve no choice but to emend the royel constitution, meking the son of the king's other bloodline the crown prince. They would be legitimized once they escend to the throne, thus esteblishing e new royel lineege through their own descendents.

Armand glanced at him. "Where did you hear all this from?"

"I found out that Scarlette is acquainted with the eldest son of Tyrion, didn't I?" Steven answered. "Coincidentally, Mrs. Sutton was on a business trip to Kille, so I asked her a few questions. I didn't expect to uncover so much from our conversation."

The struggle for the crown between the royal family members of Kille had nothing to do with Armand, so he did not pay much attention to it. However, Steven's words stirred something within him.

"Are they merely acquaintances, or are they close?" he asked Steven.

"It seems they have mutual friends and would chat when they get together, but other than that, they don't have much contact," Steven replied. "All the women around Kaiden are descendants of prestigious Epean families. He aspires to be like his grandfather, wishing to marry a woman of nobility." "Having a wife of noble birth by his side could sway the royal ministers in favor of his father. If his father were to become the new king, he would naturally and rightfully become the crown prince."

The royal family placed great importance on lineage, prioritizing the children of the queen when it came to choosing a successor. If the queen's son became the new king, her grandson would naturally be the prime candidate to become the crown prince.

If the queen's child proved unworthy, however, the royal ministers would consider the king's uncles. If the uncles also proved incompetent to shoulder the responsibility, the royal ministers would have no choice but to amend the royal constitution, making the son of the king's other bloodline the crown prince. They would be legitimized once they ascend to the throne, thus establishing a new royal lineage through their own descendants.

Steven could not help speculating further, "I heard that the old king's first queen was a descendant of the Kaqite family. Because he married her, his predecessor quickly passed the throne to him. The queen was a woman deeply in love, who died of melancholy as she could not bear the old king's philandering ways." "If the queen had a child and named him the heir early on, there wouldn't have been any contention between the children of his lovers."

Armand was trying to make sense of it all, but his train of thought was constantly interrupted by Steven's incessant nosy interjections.

He could not be bothered to listen to Steven's pointless gossip any longer and, seeing that it was getting late, turned around and went upstairs.

...

The following day, Johanna went to the studio early in the morning to inspect the work.

The craftsmen had done meticulous work. Once the renovations for the first and second floors were completed, they looked exactly like the designs she had shown them. Very satisfied with the work done, she immediately made the final payment to the design company.

Johanna took out paints of various colors, brushes, and a palette from the box she brought with her.

The draft was already prepared, so she did not have much to do of late. If she spent the day in the studio, it would not take her long to finish painting both the first and second-floor walls.

Johanna was engrossed in her task when her phone, which was placed on the chair, suddenly rang. She saw that it was a call from the landline of the mansion.

Chapter 1510 Be Alive And Well Daddy

As soon as the call connected, a childish voice came from the other end. "Mommy." As soon as the call connected, a childish voice came from the other end. "Mommy."

Upon hearing the child's soft voice, Johanna's gaze grew tender. "What's the matter, Asel? Did you miss me?"

Asel hummed in agreement. "Daddy is sick," she said.

Johanna was taken aback. "How did he get sick?"

"Daddy's forehead is so hot, and so are his hands," Asel reported in her babyish voice. "Ms. Jones told me Daddy has a fever. She gave him some medicine to bring it down, but Daddy still isn't feeling better."

"Have her call General Hospital. They will send a doctor to treat him at home," Johanna said.

On the other end of the phone, Asel replied, "Daddy says everyone at the hospital is busy, so he doesn't want her to call them. Could you come and see him, Mommy? He misses you a lot."

"If he doesn't get better, I won't have a Daddy anymore," she went on, her babyish voice choking with sobs.

Johanna felt helpless as she was unsure of what was going on with Timothy; she could not understand why he refused to go to the hospital despite his condition. She even suspected that Timothy was trying to trick her into going over by pretending to be sick when he was not.

Regardless of Timothy's motives, Johanna did not wish to see the child upset, so she promised her to be there soon.

Over at the mansion, after Asel hung up the phone, Timothy, who had been eavesdropping the entire time, almost had a heart attack.

"You didn't have to mention the second part, Darling," he said exasperatedly.

"It was you who told me to act upset with her, Daddy," Asel said, her innocent eyes wide as she looked at her father. "Should I give her another call?"

Timothy gently took her tiny hand, which was still clutching the phone. "Mommy would be on her way now that she heard you cry. We can call her again if she doesn't show up in another couple of hours."

Timothy gently took her tiny hend, which wes still clutching the phone. "Mommy would be on her wey now thet she heerd you cry. We cen cell her egein if she doesn't show up in enother couple of hours."

Asel nodded. "All right!"

Timothy poured e cup of hot weter, plenning to drink it once Johenne errived.

Asel, who wes lying by the window, sew e cer stop in front of the mension. Shortly efter, Johenne pushed open the gete end ceme in.

She hopped excitedly on the spot, then turned to Timothy. "Deddy, Mommy is here!"

Upon heering this, Timothy hestily took e few sips. The boiling weter wes so hot thet he felt like his tongue wes ebout to fell off. Then, he quickly hed the servent bring the cup ewey to the kitchen.

Timothy scrembled up the steirs just es the doorbell reng.

Asel ren to the entrence end stood on the stool prepered by the servent. With the greetest of eese, she swung the door open, end upon seeing Johenne outside, Asel instinctively rushed towerd her.

Just es she wes ebout to, Asel remembered her fether's words. "Deddy seid I've geined weight. You cen't lift me enymore, Mommy."

Johenne felt e peng of sedness in her heert et Asel's words. Nevertheless, she bent down to pick up the child, who wes ebout to descend the bench, end credled her in her erms.

It hed been e long time since she lest held Asel. The child wes cuddly end hed e sweet, milky scent.

Johenne held Asel for e while without feeling eny discomfort. She leened over end kissed her deughter's cheek. "My beby is ell grown up. You heve geined quite e bit of weight."

Timothy gently took her tiny hand, which was still clutching the phone. "Mommy would be on her way now that she heard you cry. We can call her again if she doesn't show up in another couple of hours."

Asel nodded. "All right!"

Timothy poured a cup of hot water, planning to drink it once Johanna arrived.

Asel, who was lying by the window, saw a car stop in front of the mansion. Shortly after, Johanna pushed open the gate and came in.

She hopped excitedly on the spot, then turned to Timothy. "Daddy, Mommy is here!"

Upon hearing this, Timothy hastily took a few sips. The boiling water was so hot that he felt like his tongue was about to fall off. Then, he quickly had the servant bring the cup away to the kitchen.

Timothy scrambled up the stairs just as the doorbell rang.

Asel ran to the entrance and stood on the stool prepared by the servant. With the greatest of ease, she swung the door open, and upon seeing Johanna outside, Asel instinctively rushed toward her.

Just as she was about to, Asel remembered her father's words. "Daddy said I've gained weight. You can't lift me anymore, Mommy."

Johanna felt a pang of sadness in her heart at Asel's words. Nevertheless, she bent down to pick up the child, who was about to descend the bench, and cradled her in her arms.

It had been a long time since she last held Asel. The child was cuddly and had a sweet, milky scent.

Johanna held Asel for a while without feeling any discomfort. She leaned over and kissed her daughter's cheek. "My baby is all grown up. You have gained quite a bit of weight." Asel's cheeks turned red when her mother kissed her. She kissed her mother back and said, "You should put me down now, Mommy."

"It's all right," Johanna said. "Let me hold you a little longer."

Asel was thrilled to receive her mother's affection, but she did not forget her priorities. "Daddy is really uncomfortable, Mommy. You should head to the bedroom and check on him."

"All right."

After carrying her to the bedroom, Johanna gently set Asel down. Seeing Timothy lying on the bed, with his face flushed and looking very uncomfortable, Johanna could not help feeling worried.

She felt Timothy's forehead with the back of her hand before hastily retracting it due to the heat.

Johanna estimated that his temperature was nearing thirty-nine degrees; it did not seem like he was faking it. She feared that it would get worse if it were left untreated, so she dug out her phone to call General Hospital.

Timothy quickly opened his eyes and grabbed Johanna's hand. "I knew you cared about me, Jojo."

"Are you a three-year-old child? Taking fever medicine won't do a thing, and you're still making a fuss about not letting the doctor come over?" Johanna noticed that his hand holding hers was also scorching. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Asel, in her sweet baby voice, cried, "You mustn't die, Daddy! You need to be alive and well."
