Chapter 571

The police soon arrived at the scene of the car accident.

Genevieve's tummy was hurting ducto period cramps, so Bruce drove her back to Regality Gardens.

Along the wav. slic give Cooper a call and told him, "I found the person who attacked lohann:1. but Sylvic had cotton to him first and killecl liini oil. Have somcone check the security camera footage in the area and try to identify that man."

Genevieve was sweating all over from the pain by the time they arrived at Regality Gardens. As she couldn't even get out of the car on her own, Bruce scooped her into his arms and carried her into the elevator.

He still remembered the password to her door as he had been there before.

After placing Genevieve down on the couch, Bruce poured her a glass of water and handed it to her with some medication. "Here you go, Genev. The pain will go away after you take this medicine."

It pained him to see that she couldn't even sit upright to take her medication.

With the pills and water in his mouth, Bruce held her mouth open and fed her the pills orally. Although Genevieve was drifting in and out of consciousness at the time, she was still able to swallow the pills.

Upon noticing the water droplets on the corner of her lips, he leaned in close to kiss them.

Bruce felt a strong urge to make out with her when he felt the sensation of her soft lips against his, but he was able to fight it off and carricd hier into the bedroom.

After helping her get changed into hier pajamas, he went to check her refrigerator for ingredients and made her some oatmeal.

By the time Bruce returned to her bedroom with the oatmeal, Genevieve was frowning deeply as though she was in great pain.

"Here, you need to eat something before you sleep, or you could get gastritis. Genev, can you hear me? Genev?" Bruce called out to her while holding her up in his arms.

He let out a sigh when he got no response from her whatsoever.

With no ouier choice left, he could only feed her the oatmeal orally instead.

For some reason, the frown on Genevieve's face slowly eased up when she was held in his arms. She even instinctively wrapped her arms around his waist to get into a more comfortable position.

Bruce placed the bowl of oatmeal on the nightstand, kissed her on the forehead, and hugged her tightly throughout the night.

When Genevieve woke up in the wee hours of the morning, she was still aliule groggy. She then brushed the blanket oll and drank the glass of water on the nightstand.

Having relieved her thirst, she was about to go back to sleep when she noticed a man lying on the bed.

The dim lighting from her beaside lamp cast a warm glow on the man's face, and Genevieve froze when she saw who he was That?4mandi.im I draminer? Ilhy is het here?

Sull in a dazed state, Genevieve didn't notice the black choker on the nightstand when she woke him up with a poke on the arm.

Upon secing the exhausted look on her face, Bruce pulled her back onto the bed and held her in his arms.

"Go back to sleep," he whispered while gently patting her on the back.

Genevieve recognized his voice, but his embrace was so comforting that she fell back into a deep sleep.

It was already eight in the morning by the time she woke up again. The sun shining brightly through the window was the first thing Genevieve saw when she opened her eyes.

Having recalled the incident from last night, she quickly turned around to check the other side of the bed.

The pillow and bed-sheet showed no signs of someone sleeping on them, but there was a faint scent of sandalwood on the blanket.

As the glass of water on the nightstand was nowhere in sight, Genevieve figured she had probably dreamed everything up.

Armand died long ago, so there's no way he could've been here. Still, I haven't dreamed of him in a long time, so why would I suddenly dream of him last night?

After washing up, Genevieve was making coffee in the kitchen when she noticed a box of ibuprofen on the counter.

That was when she recalled Bruce bringing her home last night and feeding her the medication orally

Chapter 572

Genevieve soon found herself blushing really hard as the memories from last night started flooding in

Her train of thought was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing.

Opening the door, she saw Cooper standing outside with breakfast in hand.

Noticing the awkward look on her face, Cooper said, "I went looking for you two at Primrose River last night. Jane is with me at the moment. I can talk to Jane if you object to us being together." He had told Jane that he wouldn't refuse any of Genevieve's requests as he belonged to her.

Having been snapped out of her daze, Genevieve replied, "I only had you head over to Primrose River because I was putting up an act with Bertilla. I'm really happy that you and Jane are together, so why would I object to your relationship?"

Cooper breathed a sigh of relief as he entered the house.

"Then why do you look so unhappy to see me?"

"Huh? I do? Maybe it's because of the discomfort from my period," Genevieve mumbled as she followed him into the dining hall.

Not suspecting a thing, Cooper asked worriedly, "Do you want me to buy you some medicine?"

"No, that won't be necessary. It doesn't hurt much anymore," Genevieve replied, feeling uncomfortable as she recalled the incident from last night.

She then munched on a pie to distract herself as she asked, "Coop, did you manage to secure the footage from the surveillance cameras around the scene of the accident?"

The look on Cooper's face turned slightly gloomy as he said, "I did, but it was useless. I had someone look up the company the truck was from. According to the driver, he lost his truck when he went to use the restroom and filed a police report immediately after. The guy in the surveillance camera footage was wearing a cap and a mask, so we couldn't see his face at all. The truck was later found at a nearby marketplace. As the truck driver was helping his colleague out last night, both his company and colleague are able to testify for him."

Genevieve's heart sank when she heard that, but there wasn't much she could do.

Sylvie's granddad is General Zeigler. His bodyguards are all retired special forces soldiers, so it makes perfect sense that Sylvie could commit those crimes without leaving any evidence behind. At the thought of that, Genevieve narrowed her eyes. "That guy was killed shortly after we agreed on a place to meet. I think his phone may have been bugged."

Given how large Jadeborough was, it would've taken Sylvie a lot of time just to find the guy.

"The guys cleaning up the scene of the accident told me that his phone was missing. I had them

track down where he was staying, but all they found at his place were some clothes and other useless stuff," Cooper said with a sigh.

"If only I was a little more careful... I should've asked him to tell me the address using a stranger's phone instead," Genevieve mumbled.

"Genev, nothing will happen to Sylvie even if he testifies against her. No amount of evidence will do us any good if Old Mr. Zeigler is supporting her," Cooper stated.

"That's fine. She isn't the only one with lots of time on her hands. Collusion of government oflicials and entrepreneurs is a huge no-no, and Old Mr. Zeigler's second son is Baykeep's party secretary. The Zeigler family will be finished if something were to happen to him. Sylvie will have no one to protect her, then," Genevieve said calmly.

Having realized what she meant, Cooper reminded her, "Destroying the Zeigler family is harder than you think, Genev. The whole process will take at least a few years. You should just leave this to me."

"Yeah, I know. Right now, all I need is to halt Sylvie's career progression in the entertainment industry," Genevieve replied calmly.

She was determined to prevent Sylvie from getting what she wanted.

Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing.

Cooper told Genevieve to carry on eating while he answered the door.

The man standing at the door had a large frame and a clean appearance. The look in his eyes, however, was a bit too mature for someone of his age.

Cooper had read up some information on Bruce after hearing about him, but this was the first time they had met in person.

For some reason, he felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity when he looked at Bruce.

"Is there something I can help you with?" Cooper asked coldly as he shifted his gaze toward the food jar in Bruce's hand.

Chapter 573

Unfazed by Cooper's attempt at asserting dominance, Bruce replied in a deep voice, "Ms. Rachford isn't feeling well, so I made her some breakfast."

"No need! I already bought her breakfası!" Cooper said in displeasure and tried to shut the door, but Bruce was faster as he pushed against the door. With one hand pushing against the door, he held his food jar up with the other and uttered, "I just want to thank Ms. Rachford, that's all. Will you help pass this to her, Mr. Sulton?" "Take your breakfast and get the hell out of here!" Cooper's expression grew even colder as the two of them stared cach other down at the door.

Upon hearing the commotion, Genevieve went to have a look, only to feel a bit awkward when she saw Bruce at the door.

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

"I was free after completing my morning run, so I figured I'd bring you some homemade meatballs. I just wanted to thank you for getting me that film and the eight-figure payment, that's all." Bruce replied calmly.

Hmph! Does he take me for a fool or something?

Cooper sneered in disdain at the thought of that. "If you truly want to thank her, then give the film your best and stay away from her! There's no need for you to bring her breakfast!"

Genevieve breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the excuse Bruce came up with. "Stop it, Coop. He's just being nice."

Since she didn't find the pie very appetizing, she stepped forward and took the food jar over from him.

"All right, you head on inside. I'll walk him out of here!" Fearing that Bruce would refuse to leave, Cooper closed the door and personally escorted him to the elevator.

The tension in the elevator was through the roof as the two men who were six feet tall stood side by side

Cooper then pressed the button for the first floor, and the elevator started its slow descent.

"Know your place, Bruce, Genev isn't someone you can afford to go after. I'm a shareholder of Genevieve Orsi Productions too, so you'd better stop harassing lier if you know what's good for you!" he warned while adjusting his cutllinks.

Funny you say that when you're hooking up with my cousin!

Bruce thought to himself in silence.

"Hey! Are you listening? A mere actor like you is unworthy of being with her!" Cooper shouted while glaring at him.

"Who do you think would be worthy of her, then, Mr. Sutton?" Bruce asked.

"You're unworthy of asking me such a question!" Cooper hollered with a frown.

After exiting the elevator, Cooper stood there and watched as Bruce walked out of the condominium.

Huh... Is it just me, or does Bruce's figure resemble Armand's? No, that's impossible! I personally eramined his corpsc!

Cooper then brushed those thoughts aside as he approached the condominium's front desk, asking the statl'to blacklist Bruce.

"I'm sorry, sir. That gentleman is also a resident here, so we can't blacklist him. He lives in the opposite block," the staff replied after performing a quick check.

The look on Cooper's face turned gloomy instantly.

U hat? For a mere actor, this guy sure is full of tricks! I can't believe he'd actually move here just to hit on his boss!

With that in mind, Cooper waited until Genevieve had left her unit before giving Jane a call.

As Jane was working at Genevieve's production company and would see the latter at work every day, Cooper asked her to help stop Bruce from seeing Genevieve.

On top of that, he also got some of his men into property management at Regality Gardens to prevent Bruce from visiting Genevieve.

Although Jane liked Bruce's films and sympathized with him for being dumped by his ex girlfriend, she knew full well how complicated things could get in the entertainment industry.

It's possible that Bruce is trying to use Genevieve to boost his popularity by being intimate with her. That simply won't do! Only Armand is worthy of being with Genevieve!

As Bruce was unable to see Genevieve due to Cooper's efforts, he had no choice but to have someone bring her his homemade lunch instead.

Chapter 574

After taking a few days off, Bruce headed over to the airport with Joash carly in the morning of the sixth.

He was a little reluctant to Icave without sccing Genevicvc as he would be way for about two to three weeks which shooting

After a brief moment of licsitation, he pulled out luis phone and sent Genevieve a text: I'll be heading overseas to shoot a film. Ms. Rachford,

Genevieve replied ten minutes later: How long will you be gone?

Bruce texted: About two weeks.

Genevieve replied with a surprised emoji: That long? What shall I do about lunch?

Bruce broke into a relieved smile when he read that text.

Not only does she find it rclaring being around me, but she has also gotten hooked on my cooking, huh? Thank goodness I practiced it a lot at home during my free time!

Bruce texted: Order takeout or something. I'll continue cooking for you when I get back.

Genevieve replied: Okay. All the best with your shoot!

Joash was going through their documentation when he turned around and saw Bruce smiling at his phone.

"You look really happy, Bruce. Who are you texting?" he asked curiously.

Bruce simply put his phone away without saying a word.

As the car passed by a street, Bruce noticed a fabric store selling beautiful knitted scarves and slippers.

Seeing as the owner was just about to open up the shop for business, Bruce pointed at the shop and said, "Pull over, Steven."

Steven did as told and brought the car to a halt outside the shop. Bruce then walked up to the owner. "I'd like to knit a pair of slippers like this one. Which type of yarn should I get?" he queried.

Noticing his fancy car and gentlemanly attitude, the owner quickly invited him into her shop and started introducing her goods.

"This one is a top pick among our customers! If you're looking to buy your girlfriend a gift, then this." the owner explained everything to him.

When she was done, she pointed at a QR code on the table as she continued, "You can also check out our official webpage for video tutorials. It's really easy, so I'm sure you'll be able to pick it up in no timc!"

Bruce nodded as he scanned the QR code and left after paying.

Joash's jaw dropped when he saw Bruce enter the car with a bag of yarn in hand. "What the... What did you buy this for, Bruce?"

Bruce shot him an annoyed glare. "I want to knit myself a luat, okay?"

"You coull've just told me that you wanted a lat, Bruce, I can buy you any hat you want! You don't have to knit it yourselt!" Joshi esclaimed in confusion. "And the yarn's grcen."

Maybe his cr-girlfriend gifted him a green hal, but he forgot about il?

Ignoring him, Bruce started watching a video tutorial on the store's webpage.

After Bruce left. Genevieve started ordering takeout for every mcal but couldn't eat much as she didn't find the food appetizing at all. Surely cnough, it wasn't long before she started losing a lot of weight as a result.

The next day, Steven dropped by to see Genevieve at work.

He kept two of Swallow Garden's housekeepers for liimself and had Rosa, who used to look after Genevieve at Regality Gardens, transferred over to prepare her meals.

While Rosa's cooking was nothing compared to Bruces, it was still a lot better than takeout, so Genevieve found herself eating quite a lot.

One day, she was busy working when her phone started ringing.

"Hello, Ms. Rachford! It's been so long!" Paula greeted her with a smile on the other line.

After having a brief exchange, Genevieve found out that Paula had recently returned from Romdale and would be playing golf with her friends at Greenlake Golf Course. Paula was calling Genevieve to ask if she was free to join them for a game.

As Paula's husband was quite a big shot in the entertainment industry, Paula was a valuable resource that Genevieve intended to protect and use against Sylvic.

Of course, she knew Paula didn't actually want to play golf with her.

Regardless of what Paula's true motives were, Genevieve had no reason to turn her invitation down since she had asked so nicely.

When she was done taking care of her work at hand, Genevieve went home to get her golf equipment and drove to the golf course, After changing clothes, Genevieve went to the field and saw Paula wearing a red collared shirt as she teed off with her friends.

Chapter 575

Genevieve clapped alongside the others. She walked over, smiled, and said, "You're such a pro. Paula. I pale so much in comparison."

"Oh, you flatter mc." Paula looked pleased as she wavce lier hand.

Paula sat down on a rattan clair, picked up a cup of collec, and took a sip. "I wasn't able to attend the grand opening of the Futasy Film Festival since I was on a business trip at that time, but I've seen the opening performance. They made the right choice of picking you for the opening act. You're such a talented violinist. I'm not exaggerating when I say your music gave me goosebumps," she praised.

Paula poked Genevieve as she spoke. "Genevieve, you are a talented gal. I think you even overshadow Marilyn, who is a rare talent in the music industry."

"Oh, you're too kind. I'm just an outsider." Genevieve flashed her a faint smile.

Paula gave her a look and suddenly broke into a smile. "You played that song for Bruce, right?"

Genevieve was caught off guard upon hearing that.

Paula Icaned back into the chair. "Everyone in the entertainment industry knows about Bruce's case. I'm really into music as well. But Ms. Rachford..."

She paused for a moment before continuing, "The entertainment industry is all kinds of filthy. and he's no exception. There are people worse than him out there. He's good-looking, and it's fine if you're not looking for anything serious with him. Just don't invest too many feelings into this relationship."

Paula liked Genevieve a lot.

Not only was she pretty and talented, but she was also the younger sister of Cooper from Specter Corporation and Armand's ex-wife.

The subsidiaries of Central Group had worked closely with Exuberance Group in the past when Armand was still around. Moreover, Marlon and Armand were close friends.

Paula couldn't help but exhort Cenevieve even though she didn't like being nosy.

Upon hearing Paula's words, Genevieve swallowed her coffee abruptly, causing her to choke and eliciting a string of coughs. "You've misunderstood. I don't have feelings for him. Nor do I want to fool around with him."

"Plus, I got remarried," she added.

*I'm just worried he'll win you over someday with how well he's been treating you from time to time." Paula's statement hit the nail right on the head. "I know these artists all too well." Genevieve recalled all the times she ran into Bruce, recollected the conversations they had, and the dinner he had prepared for her.

She lowered her head and sipped her coffee in awkward silence.

Paula was indeed the wife of media bigwig Marlon Hossler. Her words stabbed Genevieve's heart even though they had only met once at the club. Genevieve excused herself to go to the bathroom. Afier she washed her face to clear her head, she pulled her phone out and blacklisted Brucc.

It was scary to think that she was starting to form an attachment to this man and thought that it would be better to put some distance between them.

A cleaner who came into mop the floor accidentally bumped into Gencvicve just as she was leaving

The cleaner quickly apologized, but Genevieve waved her off. She ran into two men on her way back to the golf course.

She figured they weren't here for golf since they didn't carry golf bags.

The old man walking in front exerted an imposing, commanding presence, whereas the man beside him had sharp eyes and a dominating presence. He didn't look much like the average bodyguard.

The old man recognized Genevieve at a glance. "Genevieve, what a coincidence!" he said in a friendly manner.

Genevieve never expected to run into Herbert here. "Looking for someone?"

Herbert nodded.

Genevieve returned to the golf course after greeting Herbert, only to find out that he was right behind her when she sat down on the rattan chair.

Paula greeted Herbert warmly the moment she laid eyes on him. "Old Mr. Zeigler, what brings you here?"

Genevieve turned to look when she heard Paula's greeting.

She knew Sylvie had returned to her roots. However, she had never seen Herbert before since he had never shown himself in front of the media. Who would have thought that the man she ran into at the airport was Sylvie's granddad?

How ironic!

Chapter 577

Genevieve was handcutled and brought back to the police station,

As she sat in the interrogation room, the 11sh white light of the room shone dowi on her and she felt liglitheaded

Il that does Mrs. Ilossler's poisoning hatvanything to do with me?

Then, the interrogator took out a small bag that was the size of a fingernail. The bag contained white powder and was placed on the table. Ile claimed that the bag of white powder-potassium cyanide, was found in the coat that Genevieve had left at the golf course.

Potassium cyanide was extremely toxic and lethal in minute doses.

Genevieve found the incriminating evidence amusing, "I'm not dumb. If I truly wanted Mr. Hossler, why would I leave this inside my coat?"

"The most dangerous places are oftentimes the safest," the interrogator said. "There is not a single corner in the golf course that is without surveillance cameras. So, you have nowhere else to dispose of the potassium cyanide and could only place it back inside your coat, thinking you'd find a chance to get rid of it afterward. Then, you followed the ambulance to the hospital in a rush without taking your coat with you."

There were surveillance cameras all around the golf course, and the cup of coffee that she poured for Paula happened to contain potassium cyanide.

The police claimed that the surveillance camera footage showed that she had poisoned Paula's coffcc.

Genevieve could not prove her innocence as the police claimed that the footage was enough evidence to incriminate her. However, she knew that she was not the one who poisoned Paula. Someone was trying to kill two birds with one stone-killing Paula and incriminating her at the same time.

Soon, the news of Paula being rushed to the emergency room for poisoning spread like wildfire on the internet. Someone had witnessed Genevieve being taken away by the police and speculated that it was her that poisoned Paula.

There were initially not many discussions on the news. However, someone mentioned that Cooper was Genevieve's brother and implied that Cooper would cover up the news soon enough. Ironically, that had made it one of the trending topics on multiple websites. Some people were even making sardonic comments like Marlon from Exuberance Group would be heartless if he chose to make amends with Cooper,

The share price of Specter Corporation had been fluctuating as a result.

After Herbert came out of the golf course, he went back straight to the hotel as he waited for Sylvie so that they could have dinner together.

He only knew about the news on Paula's poisoning after his driver told him about it. The latter had seen it from the news.

Nonetheless, Herbert did not believe that Genevieve had poisoned Paula. "She's not the kind of person who would poison others. If she did lace the coffee with poison in front of everyone else. why would she help me pick up mcdicine that time at the airport"

"The surveillance cameras had captured the footage." the driver said. "Mrs. Hossler was only

slie drank the collec that was poured by Genevieve. The potassium cyanide was even found in her coat."

"Who would be so dumb to keep the remaining poison after committing the crime?" Herbert retorted.

For unbeknownst reason, Herbert believed that Genevicvc was a kind-hearted woman and that she would never do such a thing.

Just when he was about to order his driver to ask the police to be thorough with the investigation and go casy on Genevieve, Sylvie arrived home right then.

Sylvie ran toward Herbert as soon as she came back and asked the latter in a surprised tone, "Granddad, I heard from the news saying that Mrs. Hossler has been poisoned and rushed to the emergency room. What happened?"

"I'm not too sure either. It happened after I left," Herbert replied.

"I heard it was Genevieve who poisoned her, and there was incriminating evidence as well. She's currently being interrogated at the police station," Sylvie said as she sat down next to the old

man.

Herbert nodded, "Yeah."

"Granddad, aren't you close with the chief of Jadeborough police station, Mr. Forger?" Sylvie asked as she circled her hands around her grandfather's arm affectionately. "I hope that you could urge Mr. Forger to investigate the case impartially. Poisoning someone to their death is a crime that is punishable by death, and Genevieve should rightfully be convicted so. Don't let her get away with it through Cooper's influences. This is not going to be fair to Mrs. Hossler."

Herbert shot a sharp look at Sylvie and said, "Sylvie, what did I tell you? Even if Genevieve has killed someone, the police will surely be able to uphold justice for the victim. Are you telling me to urge Mr. Forger to hasten Genevieve's conviction in the case, just so she could be imprisoned as soon as possible? She is a smart girl, and she'll never attempt to murder sonicone right under everyone's noses."

"Granddad, she was the one who slapped me and hit me in the head. How could you side withi her?" Sylvie gave her grandfather a woeful look.

Herbert felt his heart wrench at the sight of his granddaughter's pitiful look. "I'm not trying to side with her. I'm just stating the truth."

*She dares to do so because she thinks she can get away with anything because Cooper is her brother, just like when she used to bully me... I had no relatives, no backup, no one to turn to. So, she thought me an casy target and slapped me across my face."

Sylvic then broke into a sob. "So, yes. I admit that I do not want to see Cooper helping Cenevieve get away with this. I want to see her behind the bars, isn't it only natural that I want her to suffer after what she's done to me?"

Chapter 579

She narrowed licr eyes and suid calmly, "Mr. Thompson, may I trouble you to pass along a few words to Mr. Sulton?"

Thankfully, there was only a low amount of potassium Cyanide in Paula's bloodstream, and they managed to rush her to the hospital for dialysis. Thus, she would recover. Meanwhile, Marlon discovered what had happened to l'aula and hurrica to facicborough.

Since the police had solid evidence that Genevieve administered the poison, Marlon did not step forward to defend her.

However, the police did not find any new evidence from the golf course and decided to convict Genevieve of attempted murder based on available evidence. As they were about to submit the cvidence to the court, a woman came to the police station and confessed she had poisoned Paula.

The woman said she was a clcaner at the golf course and was jealous of rich people like Paula and Genevieve.

She had another job at night as a cleaner in a school and had access to the school's chemical lab. Furthermore, she had heard that potassium cyanide was colorless, odorless, and poisonous. Therefore, she stole some from the lab.

When she returned to work at the golf course, she pretended to wipe the table for Paula and slipped some potassium cyanide into Paula's cup. Later, she deliberately bumped into Genevieve in the restroom and snuck the rest of the potassium cyanide into Genevieve's pocket, making everyone think that it was Genevieve who poisoned Paula.

Sometime later, Mr. Thompson provided the police with two videos.

The first video was surveillance footage from a school's lab, showing the cleaner half-hidden among cabinets as she stole potassium cyanide. The other video was surveillance footage from the golf course. When playing the video at a slow speed, one could see the cleaner slipping in poison when wiping the table.

Therefore, the police immediately arrested the cleaner based on her confession and solid evidence of her crime, charging her with attempted murder.

On the other hand, Genevieve was deemed innocent and released from detention.

At the same time, Cooper hired many reporters to report on the matter and posted the two surveillance footage on the internet to clear Genevieve's name,

Later, he and Jane went to the police station to pick Genevieve up on the day of her release.

Cooper informed Genevieve, "Somcone almost killed the cleaner wien I found hier. The person drove an unlicensed car and abandoned it after leaving the tunnel."

At the time, Cooper ordered many people to search in the vicinity. However, the person seemed to have disappeared from the face of the earth.

Genevieve accepted a jacket from Jane as she listened to Cooper and put it on. "Did she tell you

anything?"

"No." Cooper frowned, and his expression became solemn. "I tried everything. She refused to say anything even after I told her that someone wanted her dead. Therefore, I could only obtain surveillance footage from the school and the golf course and took her to the police station to confess her crime."

"What about her bank card?" Genevieve asked.

Cooper answered, "I investigated her family situation and her bank card. I even checked her phone but can't find anything."

Genevieve smirked upon hearing him. "Sylvie is getting more and more out of hand!"

"After you met with Mrs. Hossler at the club last time, Sylvie must have realized you are the reason why Mrs. Hossler ceased to think well of her," Cooper explained. "Since she could not garner Mrs. Hossler's favor, she decided to harm Mrs. Hossler and place the blame on you, killing two birds with one stonc."

"She almost succeeded." Genevieve narrowed her eyes threateningly. "I won't let her escape unpunished."

Then, she asked Cooper, "Coop, how's Mrs. Hossler?"

"She only consumed a low dose of potassium cyanide, so she's fine." Cooper calmed her concerns. "Mrs. Hossler regained consciousness yesterday. I have also paid her a visit at the hospital." Genevieve instructed, "Let's go to the hospital."

She wanted to visit Paula. After all, Paula became the target of Sylvie's hatred for standing on Genevieve's side and nearly lost her life because of that.

Paula looked well and was ready to be discharged from the hospital in the afternoon.

She smiled when Genevieve came into her room with a basket of fruits. "I know you are innocent, so don't worry. I am fine anyway."

Then, Genevieve chatted with Paula for a while before leaving.

After leaving Paula's room, Genevieve came across a group of doctors who seemed to be in the middle of something. She noticed Jermaine standing among them.

Chapter 580

"Dr. Sitler;" Genevieve greeted one of the men with a white doctor's coat.

Jermainc was surprised to scc Gonovicic, but he soon remembered something and nodded without meeting her gaze.

Genevieve asked politely. "When will you be frec? I wish to talk to you about something."

**I need to see a patient first. It will take around half an hour." Initially.Jermaine wanted to avoid Genevieve. However, she asked to talk to liim about some matter, so he could not rcfusc. "You go ahead." Genevieve replied. "I'll wait for you in your office."

After leaving Jermaine, Genevieve pulled out her phone and made an appointment with the cardiac surgery department. Then, she gave Janc a call and asked her to head there.

Jane soon arrived and saw Genevieve standing before the cardiac surgery department. She instantly knew what Genevieve was up to and smiled bitterly. "Forget it, Genevieve. It is pointless."

Jane had traveled overseas many times in recent years to seek treatment for her condition. However, she always returned in disappointment.

Furthermore, the doctors she consulted were all renowned figures in the medical field. Even wealthy people had a hard time hiring them for surgeries.

Since these renowned doctors could not do anything about her condition, Jane did not expect an ordinary doctor to be able to do anything.

"You have nothing urgent anyway, so you might as well let him check your condition," Genevieve said. "He went to the same medical school as Timothy. Although he is young, he is highly skilled."

Jane did not say anything but grunted in acknowledgment.

Jermaine returned to his office twenty minutes later.

Genevieve explained Jane's condition to him and asked him to give her a health check-up.

Thus, Jermaine brought Jane to do an electrocardiogram. He conversed with her and learned about her symptoms during flare-ups, causing him to frown.

After returning to the office, Jermaine explained to Jane, "Heart disease is mostly hereditary. It could be inherited from parents or intergenerational. Furthermore, you were born premature, so you naturally have a weak immune system. I believe none of the doctors in the country o overseas dares to operate on you."

Jane's eyes dimmed at his words. "I have consulted many doctors overseas. They all said the success rate of surgery is only three percent."

"I have come across another patient with a similar condition as yours. He was eighteen years old, and I gave him surgery," Jermaine said. "Was the surgery successful?" Genevicvc asked.

"It was," Jermaine answered, prompting Jane and Genevieve's eyes to brighten with hope.

However, Jermaine soon sighed and said, "Unfortunately, the surgery raised his chances of recurrence. He had a recurrence less than four years after surgery and passed away on the same day."

Back then. Icrmainc blancd liimiscil. Hc bclicvcd thic boy could have lived lonccr if he had not

had surgery.

Jane considered for a long time before saying to Jermaine in a determined tone, "I hope you can operate on me."

Jermaine refused, "No. After this surgery, the recurrence is going to be fatal if you end up having one. You could live longer if you continue to take your medicine. At least, you would live longer than four years."

"I might be able to live longer without surgery. However, I might also go to sleep any day and never wake up again. I've been taking medicine since I was a child, and I took them more frequently than having my meals. Sometimes, my condition is so severe that I can only lie in bed..." Jane replied bitterly,

Her gaze was firm with resolve as she looked at Jermaine and continued, "I wish to become healthy. Then, I can go anywhere and do anything I want, like an ordinary healthy person. Even if being healthy would only allow me to live for four years, I am willing to accept that."

Jermaine did not know what to say. He turned to Genevieve for help, but she said, "If this surgery is doable for you, I hope you can respect her choice."

"Sure," Jermaine agreed in the end. "I will a
