Chapter 811

Cooper knew how tired Genevieve had been from searching for Armand since his disappearance. She pursued every clue so relentlessly that her anxiety caused her insomnia.

As she had been injected with Curb.emotion, Genevieve had no feelings of romance toward Armand. Even his faked death did not affect her at all. Even so, he had gone too far this time. Even if he had matters to attend to, he should not have kept me worrying.

Cooper handed Genevieve a piece of tissue. As he was about to say something, she wiped her tears and said coldly, "Forget it. It's not worth being sad over a scoundrel like him. I am rich and beautiful. Why should I get hung up on an old man who is almost forty years old?"

Cooper was amused. He did not know if he should feel sorry for Armand for being cast so quickly aside.

The children's birthday party drew to a close at eleven that night.

Harry gazed mournfully at Genevieve upon noticing the darkness outside the window. "Jesse went to Baykeep, Genevieve. There's no one at home, and it's still raining outside. Can I spend the night here?" "Let Harry stay, Mommy." Amanda tried to put in a word for him.

Though Genevieve was unwilling, she did not feel good about sending him away on a rainy day at the thought of all Harry had done that night for her sake and how far away from home he was.

Lucian, however, chose that moment to raise his objection. "You can't. This is Daddy's house. No guests have ever lived here aside from Mommy. Even Mr. Sullivan moved out when my parents lived together. If guests could stay, Mr. Sullivan wouldn't have sent Aunt Jojo and Uncle Cooper away."

"Special situations necessitate special measures," Harry said petulantly as his eyelashes quivered. "I won't be able to hail a taxi in this rain anyway. I want to spend some more time with Amanda and tell her a bedtime story."

Amanda's eyes lit up, but upon receiving her brother's hard gaze, she pouted her lips and said nothing.

"No problem. I'll have someone send you." Lucian took out his phone and called Cooper, who had just left. "Harry says he can't hail a taxi, Uncle Cooper. Send him to the hotel, will you? All right. I'll send him out."

After hanging up, Lucian flashed Harry a grin. "My uncle is waiting in the car outside. He said he will treat you to a deluxe suite."

"Since my brother is sending you to the hotel, you should get going." Genevieve heaved a secret sigh of relief when her son resolved the delicate matter for her.

Sending Harry out the front door, she handed him an umbrella.

Harry did not expect the usually reticent Lucian to be so chatty and meddlesome at the critical moment.

As his plan of spending the night fell apart, he could only reluctantly bid Genevieve farewell.

Amanda awaited Genevieve's return to extract a paper bag from the pile of opened presents and hand it to her mother. "This is a gift from Mr. Valentine to Lucian and me, Mommy."

Genevieve pursed her lips at the unpleasant memory of the kidnapping. "Did he come over tonight?"

"No. The gift came by mail."

Opening the paper bag, Genevieve took two sets of documents out. Aside from Helt Corporation and its assets, Jack had willed some other assets under his name, including more than two billion in cash in Romdale Bank, to the children.

He had picked the assets in advance, and the deed would be effective immediately upon signing.

Genevieve walked away from the children after perusing the document's contents to give Jack a call.

"Hello?" The call was answered quickly, but not by Jack.

Genevieve recognized the voice as Lilian's. "Where is Jack?" she asked. "I would like to speak with him."

"He's busy in the study," Lilian answered. "Are you calling to ask about the kids' gifts?"

Genevieve grunted in acknowledgment. "He earned everything. The kids should not take it."

Chapter 812

Lilian sounded calm on the other end. "Helt Corporation keeps him busy enough, and he's not short on money. Jack told me he is happy to have spent those five years with Lucian and Amanda. The children gave him a period of happiness, and he gives them a gift in exchange. You don't have to feel uncomfortable to accept it."

It was not just the children keeping Jack company for the past five years. Jack, too, has helped me out so much.

At the thought of his companionship in the past, Genevieve's calloused heart melted somewhat. She even forgot all about the period when he had imprisoned her.

"How's his injury?" Genevieve asked as she pursed her lips.

"Are you referring to the stab wound you caused?" Lilian asked. "He lost some blood. I bandaged him up that night, and he did not even go to the hospital. It's been over a month, and the scar on his stomach has almost faded. Would you like to speak with Jack? I'll put him on."

"No need." Genevieve felt relieved upon hearing that Jack was fine and that he seemed to be getting on well with Lilian.

"Genevieve," Lilian said in a quiet voice, "you've lived with Jack in Dartan for five years and have raised children together. Did you... ever love him?"

Genevieve was puzzled as to why she would suddenly ask something like that.

After a prolonged silence, she answered slowly, "I met Armand when I was nine. After going around in circles until I was twenty-three, I met him again." Liliam smiled. "I understand. Wish the children a happy birthday for me."

"I will."

After the call ended, Genevieve walked to the living room and lifted her daughter, who was building a castle with plastic bricks.

"It's half-past eleven, Little Princess. You should be taking a shower and preparing for bed."

Amanda pouted in response.

Genevieve raised her eyebrows. "If you play for another ten minutes, you will wake up with dark circles under your eyes, and your cheeks will turn yellow. You'll be a little witch and no longer a little princess. Do you still want to play?"

"No." Amanda shook her head fervently. "I must protect my adorable face."

Genevieve smiled as she pecked her daughter's soft cheeks.

While bathing her child, Genevieve noticed that Amanda was in a good mood. Initially, she considered asking why Amanda was not upset about her father not celebrating her birthday with her, but the kid might have forgotten about it due to the excitement of the birthday celebration. At last, Genevieve decided not to mention it for fear of her question being a reminder to the girl.

After tucking Amanda in, Genevieve returned to the master bedroom she and Armand once shared and discovered a bottle of paper cranes on the couch.

The glass bottle was a meter tall and filled with paper cranes.

Aside from ones folded with standard blue and pink papers, some of the cranes were folded with a special kind of fluorescent paper. Under the dim ambient lights, the luminescent cranes shimmered in the darkness in different colors.

Genevieve stood transfixed at the door for a long time before turning on the light and heading toward the couch.

When she was close enough, Genevieve saw that the cranes were great in number-several hundreds at least. Is this Amanda's gift? Did she put it here in the bedroom for fear of it breaking?

Just then, Lucian's boyish voice sounded from behind Genevieve amidst her contemplation. "Mr. Sullivan came with a car full of gifts after you left with Harry, Mommy."

Genevieve turned around to look at her son. "Is this a gift from Mr. Sullivan to you or Mandy?"

"I've conducted a quick survey and found that these fluorescent papers are pretty much discontinued. As paper cranes like these are not for sale on the Internet, they must have been folded one at a time," Lucian explained. "Mr. Sullivan doesn't know how to be romantic. Besides, he brought this bottle into the master bedroom before anything else."

Then, he ventured a bold guess. "It must have been Daddy who folded the cranes in this bottle."

Chapter 813

As she thought of the thousand paper cranes in the glass jar being folded by hand one after another, Genevieve was touched. She felt warm and tenderhearted. Soon, another matter came to her mind. Since Steven delivered the item for Armand, it meant that he knew Armand's latest whereabouts.

Why did he insist he knew nothing?

The scenes in the resort that night passed through Genevieve's mind one after another. Her face suddenly sank, and she carried the jar of paper cranes into the walk-in closet. Lucian followed her into the closet slowly.

He folded his arms across his chest and leaned against the door, watching his mother tuck the jar of cranes into a corner and cover it up with a piece of cloth. "Mommy, I overheard everything you said to Uncle Cooper. First of all, I didn't mean to eavesdrop. My hearing is just too good."

Genevieve laughed while feeling angry at the same time. Seeing the kid's face that closely resembled Armand's, she walked over to hold and rub it as she remembered his father with some resentment. "I feel miserable today, being bullied by your father and his new love."

It took Lucian a lot of effort to pull his mother's hands away from his face.

He said to her earnestly, "Mommy, in a moment of resentment, you might hurt yourself. You have to look further ahead."

"Do you mean to say that even though your daddy has a new love, I'm not supposed to be angry?" Genevieve asked quietly.

Letting out a sigh, Lucian pointed at himself and asked, "Whose son am I?"

Seeing his mother snorting with resentment, Lucian added calmly, "Even if Daddy has a new love, I am his biological son. Even if he's in a position of power, I will still be his son. With him helping me pave the way, maybe I can secure an even higher position."

Genevieve stared blankly at her son.

She knew that most of the traits in her son's character were inherited from Armand-he was calm and smart. Just like Armand, he would take one cautious step at a time and look ahead, but she did not expect him to be so smart.

"I just realized that your dad has been useful," Genevieve stated suddenly. "His genes are good and so I was able to have a smart son like you."

Lucian smiled, showing two dimples. "I shall take revenge on them for the way they bully you now. Don't worry. When I do it, I wouldn't let anyone come to their aid."

"Sweetie, come here." Genevieve was extremely moved. Holding her son in an embrace, she stroked him. "You're the best. You love me so much."

Lucian patted his mother on her back.

"Mommy, if you're still sad, go find yourself a boyfriend. Mandy and I encourage you."

"Well said, Lucian," Genevieve snorted. "Since he has a new love, I can have a new partner, too. I'll find someone young and handsome to be your stepfather. Who wants an old man like him?" There are so many men around. Who wants an old man like him?

In the middle of the night, Johanna was awoken by a thunderstorm.

Asel, who was sleeping beside her, was also startled. As she shuddered, she started crying loudly. Leaning forward, Johanna patted her child and consoled her.

However, no matter how she tried to calm Asel, the latter would not stop crying, and her face turned red.

Johanna felt that something was wrong. With the back of her hand, she tested the girl's forehead, and it felt hot. Quickly, she dressed the child and carried her outside.

Johanna woke the housekeeper and asked her to call the family doctor immediately.

Usually, the nanny took care of Asel, but she was on leave today because she had some errands to run. Since it was a rainy night and Asel was behaving well, Johanna did not call her to come back. Johanna opened a bottle of medicine and put it to Asel's lips, but the kid was not very cooperative, and it took a long time to give her half the dosage.

Asel cried so much that her voice weakened, and her breathing slowed.

Johanna realized that Asel's body was flushed, and her forehead felt hot. Knowing that it was a high fever, she panicked immediately. Carrying the child, she hurried downstairs but bumped into Timothy, who was rushing upstairs.

Chapter 814

Timothy noticed her eyes were red, while the child's body was flushed.

"Asel is having a higli fever." At a glance, Timothy recognized the child's symptoms. He took her from Johanna's arms and loosened her clothes a little. "Let's go to the hospital."

Johanna did not even think about how he had entered the house. She was only concerned about the child. Hence, she swiftly followed him to the hospital.

Timothy kept looking at the rearview mirror whenever he heard Asel cry. Though he was anxious, it was raining, and the road was slippery, so he did not speed.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Timothy hurried to the emergency room with the child to find his doctor friend.

Timothy used to work in the cardiac surgery department of General Hospital, and now he had become a major shareholder of the establishment. The doctor did not dare neglect Timothy's child when he saw Asel suffering from a high fever.

With the doctor's help, Asel's high fever subsided after three minutes, and she stopped crying as she began to breathe evenly.

Only then did Timothy feel relieved.

Considering that it was raining, and the weather was cold, he asked the doctor for a VIP ward.

Entering the ward, Timothy placed the child on the bed.

He turned around and saw that Johanna's eyes were red and swollen. He recalled that when they were in the car earlier, Johanna shed tears as well upon hearing her daughter's painful cries.

Timothy went to the restroom to get hot water from the bathtub. After soaking a towel in the hot water, he was about to wipe Asel's face when Johanna took the towel from his hand. She simply wiped Asel's face and hands before removing her shoes and climbing into the bed.

She lay beside her daughter, totally ignoring Timothy.

Timothy felt upset. However, seeing that Johanna did not send him away, he gingerly went to the front of the bed and sat down.

Johanna kept gazing at Asel, afraid that her fever would come back. "You get some sleep," he whispered. "I'll watch over her. She'll be fine."

Johanna's expression was indifferent as she continued to ignore him.

Finally, perhaps due to being so worn out, she did fall asleep.

Timothy got up quietly and covered her with the blanket, that had slid downward, properly.

Johanna's head was tilted out of the pillow, almost against her daughter's face. They both slept in a similar peaceful sleeping position as if they were carved out of the same mold. The scene made Timothy's heart melt.

With his fingers, he gently brushed the hair from Johanna's cheek behind her ear and could not help lowering his head to kiss her gently on the cheek.

Ever since that incident, he had not seen Johanna and Asel for nearly two months.

Johanna seldom went out, and servants bought her daily necessities. Moreover, she was always busy in the studio, so when he parked his car outside her small house, he still could not see Johanna. Occasionally, he could see the nanny holding the child in the garden to bask in the sun.

This time, when Lucian and Amanda celebrated their birthday, Timothy knew that he would spoil things for them if he attended the party, so he sent his gifts through Cooper instead.

If not for Asel's high fever and the housekeeper for letting him in, he would not have had the opportunity to see this mother and daughter.

When Johanna woke up, she saw Asel playing with a lock of her hair while looking at her with her onyx-like eyes.

"Naughty child, you're hurting me by pulling at my hair."

She kissed the child's chest several times, making her giggle and sway her hands and feet.

Picking up the mobile phone that was placed on the cabinet, Johanna checked the time, noting that it was eight o'clock.

Asel normally felt hungry at night, but this time, after the fever went down, she slept all night without crying for food.

Johanna felt troubled, but when she saw the baby formula cans, baby bottles, and a water dispenser on the round table in the distance, she understood what had happened. She did not know when Timothy had left, but he was no longer in the ward.

Johanna got up and went to the restroom to freshen up. Then, she wiped the child's face and hands with a hot towel and picked her up from the bed to change her clothes.

As she packed up and was about to leave with her daughter, there was a knock on the door.

The visitor had no intention of waiting for a response but entered immediately after knocking.

The visitor was a woman with an attractive physique and beautifully painted eyebrows. She seemed gentle and graceful, with a scholarly air about her.

Johanna glanced over at her and uttered calmly, "You don't look like a patient, so I guess you want to see me."

Chapter 815

Mindy laughed. "I heard the nurse saying that Mr. Jensen's child has a high fever, so I came to visit."

She barged in on her own. When she saw how adorable Asel was, she praised, "How cute! Her eyes are just like Mr. Jensen's. She looks quite energetic too!"

Without saying anything, Johanna lowered her head and glanced at the medical report that Mindy was holding.

Noticing Johanna looking at her medical report, Mindy smirked. "My period is irregular, so I came to the hospital to check on it.

Don't misunderstand anything, Ms. Joule. Why don't I show you my medical report?"

Johanna was not the least bothered by her disgusting words. She asked flatly, "Is there anything else?"

"No." Mindy glanced at the packed bags on the bed. "Are you leaving, Ms. Joule? I drove over. Do you want me to send you back?"

"There's no need for that."

Mindy did not continue insisting. Drawing circles in the air, she played with Asel. "Mr. Jensen's eyes are very pretty. If this child's a boy, he'll be even better-looking than Mr. Faulkner when he grows up." When she finished her sentence, she sighed discreetly, as if it was a pity.

Johanna placed her bag on the bed again. Laying Asel on the bed, Johanna put headphones over her ears and kissed her. "Sweetie, wait for me for a minute."

When Mindy saw Johanna placing her child on the bed again, she was a bit puzzled.

In the next second, Johanna spun around and strode toward Mindy. Gripping her hair, she slapped Mindy's cheek forcefully. Then, she swung her hand in the opposite direction, landing a slap on Mindy's other cheek.

A few seconds later, Mindy could feel her cheeks burn.

She could not help but resist. However, Johanna was extremely strong. She slapped Mindy a few more times before kicking her onto the couch.

"Do you think you're all high and mighty just because you slept with a man?" Johanna rolled up her sleeves and glared at Mindy, who was looking extremely pathetic. "You're dumber than a pig. I've already divorced Timothy, so I have no objections to both of you sleeping together every day. I hit you because you bullied my child."

Clutching Mindy's hair, Johanna slapped her again. "Why did you spout such nonsense in front of my child? Even if you were born from a surrogate mother, you wouldn't have existed without a woman's eggs. Or are you feeling sad that you weren't born with a penis?"

Mindy was furious at her words. "You were the one born from a surrogate mother!"

"If you weren't born through surrogacy, you're still a woman, so why are you so sexist?" Johanna swung her away. "If you like boys, go have some with Timothy!"

At that moment, Timothy pushed the door and entered the ward, holding some steaming breakfast.

As he heard Johanna's last sentence and saw Mindy in the ward simultaneously, his face instantly sank.

"Why are you here?"

A chill ran down Mindy's spine when she saw Timothy glaring at her so coldly.

She brushed her hair back, deliberately revealing her red cheeks. "I heard the baby's sick, so I came to visit. After I said how cute the baby is, Ms. Joule suddenly slapped me for no reas—” "Who the f*ck wants you to visit my daughter?" interrupted Timothy. "Even if Jojo didn't slap you, I would have."

He continued viciously, "Get lost!"

Not doubting that Timothy would slap her, Mindy scrambled up from the couch.

Standing at the side, Johanna wiped her fingers with a wet tissue and said calmly, "I heard you graduated from an arts college in Petalgrove. You're going to hold an exhibition here, right?" Mindy stood up straight and looked at Johanna.

Johanna stared straight into Mindy's eyes and smirked. "From tomorrow onward, if you manage to hold any exhibitions here or overseas, if your paintings appear in any gallery, or if your name appears on any arts publication, I'll not let that go."

Chapter 816

Mindy was about to scoff at what Johanna said when the latter turned around and shot a look at Timothy. "If you still want to be Asel's father, remember what I said."

"I'll instruct someone to do it right now," replied Timothy quickly. He then turned around and left to make a call.

This time, Mindy's cheeks turned pale.

After Timothy divorced Johanna, their relationship became strained, and they even severed their ties. Why is Timothy still siding with Johanna, then?

Johanna stared at Mindy disdainfully. "Do you want to know why I called you dumb earlier? When you hooked up with Timothy, you took photos and posted them on Instagram. Everyone knew about it. Yet, you didn't know how to grab that opportunity. Other women have better tricks up their sleeves than you. Now that you've come to provoke me, you seem even dumber!"

Not wasting any more time with her, Johanna carried her child and left the hospital ward.

Coincidentally, Timothy had just finished his phone call. Upon seeing Johanna leave, he quickly kept his phone and caught up with her. "It's been ages since I've carried Asel. Can you let me carry her?"

When Timothy fed Asel some milk in the middle of the night, he did not want to stop carrying her. However, he was afraid that his arm would make her uncomfortable.

Ignoring Timothy, Johanna walked even faster.

Asel leaned against Johanna's shoulders. When she saw her father at the back, she started calling out to him and extended a fluffy hand toward him.

When Timothy stretched his finger out, Asel grabbed it tightly, wanting to pounce into his arms.

Seeing how eagerly Asel wanted to hug him, Timothy felt like crying. "Just five minutes," he pleaded with Johanna softly. "I'll walk you and Asel to the car, okay?"

Since Asel kept wanting to move to the back, Johanna could barely hold on to her.

Stopping in her tracks, she turned around to face Timothy. Without any emotions, she said, "You can carry her, but you must pay a million per minute. I only want cash." "Okay," agreed Timothy unhesitatingly.

After Johanna released her grip, Asel pounced into Timothy's arms. He quickly hugged her and kissed her soft cheek. "Do you miss me, Asel?"

Asel burbled loudly. She wanted to kiss him but ended up slobbering all over his face.

However, Timothy did not mind at all. Wiping Asel's saliva from his face, he grabbed Johanna's bag and left the hospital with them.

After hailing a taxi at the side of the road, Timothy came up with an excuse, saying that it was inconvenient for Johanna to move everything while carrying Asel. Hence, he sent them back personally.

In the car, Asel found Timothy's platinum ring around his finger entertaining and bit it.

Timothy quickly lifted Asel's chin and coaxed, "You can't bite this. You'll hurt your little teeth."

When Johanna saw he was still wearing his wedding ring, she scoffed coldly. "We're already divorced. Are you wearing the wedding ring to make me feel sick? Or is it arousing seeing it when you're sleeping with other women?"

Since Timothy knew he was at fault, he did not feel angry at Johanna's snide comments, nor did he dare to say anything in response.

The car soon arrived at the mansion.

Coincidentally, there was a black Mercedes-Benz parked at the entrance. Hector got out of the car and walked toward the taxi at the back.

When he opened the car door, Johanna got out and asked in surprise, "Didn't you say you're going to be there for four months? Why did you return all of a sudden?"

"My cousin's getting married, so I came back to attend his wedding," explained Hector with a smile. "I brought some stuff for you, too."

The Mercedes-Benz's trunk was filled with gifts for Johanna and her child.

"Asel can play with these toys. Since we're friends, I won't stand on ceremony with you." Johanna called the housekeeper out to move the gifts.

Timothy quickly caught up with them and said, "I bought a lot of toys and clothes for Asel, too. I'll ask someone to send them over."

"These are enough," rejected Johanna coldly.

Chapter 817

Hector stared at Johanna, realizing that after he was overseas for a few months, the woman seemed even colder toward Timothy. Did they fight again?

"Asel is so cute!" Hector could not help but smile when he saw Asel's adorable face.

"Can I carry her?" he asked Timothy.

When he stretched out his arms to take Asel from Timothy's arms, she hugged Timothy's neck tightly. It was obvious how resistant she was.

Immediately, Timothy felt much better. My daughter knows how to make me look good.

"I'm sorry, but my daughter clings to me a lot. She doesn't want to leave me," replied Timothy in a slightly proud tone. "If you like children, why don't you marry earlier and let your wife have one for you?" Johanna suddenly asked Hector, "Hector, how many girlfriends have you had?"

Even though he was puzzled, he replied, "Three."

"Did you date them for a long time?"

"Kinda." After thinking about it, Hector added, "I met my first girlfriend at university and dated her for two years. Then I dated my second and third girlfriends for three years each. However, we broke up because we were pursuing different things."

"Looks like you treat each girlfriend seriously and put your heart into each relationship," stated Johanna, sighing. "If only I met you back then.”

Hector revealed a sympathetic look. "Yeah. We were from the same university. If I paid more attention to girls and discovered such an interesting person like you, I wouldn't have passed you up." Knowing that Johanna was comparing Hector to himself, Timothy felt gloomy.

He wanted to rebuke and say that he was better than Hector, but in the past, he had followed his guts rather than his heart when it came to relationships. It was true that he was not as serious as Hector. Meanwhile, after Genevieve washed up, she walked out of the bedroom, seeing the two kids eating breakfast in the dining hall.

"Where's Uncle Cooper?"

"He hasn't come yet." Amanda shoved a bagel into her mouth and chewed delightfully.

When Genevieve walked over, she noticed the sumptuous breakfast laid out on the table. There were some beef tacos and oatmeal on the side.

With narrowed eyes, she glanced at her son.

"Mr. Sullivan sent them in the morning." Lucian was eating much more elegantly than Amanda. "There's a matcha crepe cake too. I put it in the fridge."

Genevieve was wondering why Cooper was not there, even though he wanted to deliver breakfast over and pick up the kids.

If Cooper did something so romantic, like sending gifts and cooking delicious food to make her happy in the past, her heart might have melted, and she would not have held a grudge against him. However, things were different now.

Her grudge toward him for disappearing for a few months was still there.

Furthermore, he dared to act ambiguously with other women in front of her and even pretended that he did not know her.

That made Genevieve want to rip Cooper's head off.

Amanda swallowed her food and asked Genevieve with bright eyes, "Mommy, Uncle Cooper's bringing us Disneyland today! Do you want to go with us?"

Since she was quite free, she was about to agree when someone called her.

"Ms. Genevieve, I'm from Lovely Heart Hotel." A female voice sounded from the other end. "May I know if Mr. Harry Hompton is your friend?"

Genevieve stopped eating. "What's wrong with him?"

"Well, when our cleaners were tidying the room in the morning, they noticed Mr. Harry looked quite ill as if he was having a high fever. We delivered some medicine to him, but he refused to eat them. If anything happens to him in the hotel, we cannot bear the consequences. Hence, we have no choice but to call you."

Feeling her headache, Genevieve asked the receptionist to transfer the call to Harry's hotel room, but it was not answered. When she called Harry's personal number, he did not answer either. She tried it again, but it was still unanswered. Genevieve then threw the phone down.

What the hell is he doing?

Chapter 818

At first, Genevieve did not want to interfere, but after considering Harry was only an adolescent and his relationship with Armand, she felt she needed to step in to prevent the issue from spiraling out of control. After Cooper arrived, he took the children to the theme park while Genevieve drove to the hotel.

As she was stopping her car by the road, a car suddenly rammed into the back of her vehicle. Had she not fastened her safety belt, she would have hit the windscreen.

Pulling the brakes, Genevieve stepped out of her car with a grim expression.

The driver behind her had gotten down from his car. His face turned pallid when he realized the vehicle he rammed into was a luxurious Rolls-Royce. "I-I'm sorry..."

The driver, who was answering a call, accidentally floored the accelerator, thinking it was the brake pedal.

The impact was so strong that Genevieve hit the car in front. There were altogether five vehicles involved in the pileup.

After taking photos of the damages, she decided to rush to the hotel first instead of going to the workshop because she was worried about Harry. Yet, she could not start her car. Frustration kicked in as she had no choice but to get out of the car. She then saw a Mercedes-Benz stop at a red light.

The man in the passenger's seat at the back winded down the window, revealing the upper part of his face.

Genevieve was doubtful that the man, who drove past her, did not notice she was standing by the curb.

Walking over, she knocked on the window. After the man winded down the window completely, she gave him a faint smile. "Someone rammed into my car, and I can't start its engine. Could you give me a lift?" Before the man could reply to her request, she continued, "I hope you remember we were married once, Mr. Faulkner. Pretty sure you can do me a favor, right?"

"Unlock the door," Armand ordered the driver.

Glancing at the man from the rearview mirror before turning his attention to Genevieve, who refused to leave, the driver unlocked the door.

Genevieve grabbed her bag and got into Armand's car.

While tidying up her skirt, she could not help but study the man from the corners of her eyes, feeling pissed. So he's doing me a favor just because we were married? Is he going to ignore me like this? He has been coaxing me, but now that I'm with him, he acts as if I'm invisible. What's wrong with this man?

Armand asked, "Where to?"

"Lovely Heart Hotel," Genevieve answered while moving away from him. She then fished out her phone from her bag and played with it.

Two minutes later, she received a call.

Accepting the call, she said, "Yes, this is Genevieve. I'm sorry, I got into an accident and am in a hurry to check out a sick friend at a hotel. I'm afraid I can't reach the cafe by eleven o'clock later..." While talking on the phone, she had her hand inside the bag. The bag accidentally slipped from her thigh, and a stack of photos fell out.

A few photos landed on Armand's ankles.

He bent down to pick up a photo. It was a photo of a young man, and his name and occupation were all written behind it.

After ending the call, Genevieve immediately picked up her bag and the photos.

A corner of Genevieve's lips quirked up when she saw Armand holding a photo. "My husband passed away at a young age, and my kids felt I've been lonely for too long, but they also hope to find themselves a new dad. My son has shortlisted these men and wants me to get to know them."

Snatching the photo from him, the woman added, "Look, this is Mr. Leary. I'll be meeting him for lunch. Thanks for picking up the photo, Mr. Faulkner."

The corner of Armand's eyes twitched, but he still pulled a deadpan expression. "You're welcome."

"Mr. Faulkner, if I'm not mistaken, you're thirty-seven years old this year, right?" Genevieve asked while stuffing the photos into her bag. "You should marry Ms. Loake soon," she advised. "Your age is catching up, and it'll take a toll on your sperm and the intellectual development of your child."

Chapter 819

Upon hearing her snarky remark, the driver felt he should not have unlocked the car and let her in. What a vicious woman!

Yet, Armand was not mad at her. He merely hummed in acknowledgment and continued to ignore her.

Fury surged in Genevieve when she saw how composed the man was. She could not help but grit her teeth throughout the journey.

When the car arrived at Lovely Heart Hotel, she exited the car with a grim expression. After closing the door, she looked at the man in the car and uttered in a serious tone, "This time, I'll choose my husband carefully. Since the government wants us to have more babies, I'll ensure he's in his early thirties and fit enough to get me pregnant with another child!"

Genevieve then slammed the door and dashed into the hotel.

Instead of looking out of the window, Armand ordered the driver calmly, "Let's go."

"Yes," the driver replied. He was relieved that Armand paid no attention to Genevieve throughout the ride.

Meanwhile, Genevieve went into the elevator and reached the floor where Harry was staying. She rang the doorbell repeatedly in frustration.

A few minutes later, someone came to open the door. "Genevieve..."

Harry looked disheveled, and he was still wearing yesterday's clothes. When he spotted Genevieve by the door, his eyes brightened up. "What are you doing here?"

The teenage boy pressed his pale lips. Anyone who saw him in such a miserable state would sympathize with him.

"What am I doing here? I came to collect your body just in case the hotel refuses to take responsibility when you die of fever!" Genevieve uttered icily, venting her pent-up frustration on Harry. Harry's eyes grew dim instantly. He muttered, "If that's the case, I'll check out of the hotel right now..."

Pressing his fist to his mouth, he coughed a few times.

Upon noticing how severe his cough was, Genevieve did not have the heart to reprimand him anymore. She immediately held him up when he began to wobble, lest he fell to the floor. She could also feel how feverish Harry was when she grabbed his arm and dragged him back to the room.

After tossing the boy to the couch, she pointed at the medicines on the coffee table and questioned him, "Why didn't you eat the pills that the receptionist gave? Even a three-year-old would know when to take his medicine when he's ill."

Staring at the boy who kept mum with his head lowered, Genevieve got furious. "Harry Hompton, you're eighteen years old now. Stop being so bullheaded. You can put your life in danger!"

All of a sudden, she thought of Jack.

Jack grew up in a difficult childhood environment. His father did not shower him with love, and his mother hated him. He did not have a chance to throw tantrums at anyone.

On the contrary, Harry was a lucky young man. Charice doted on him, and so did his father.

Lowering his eyes, Harry whispered, "I'm afraid of the capsules. During my childhood, when I was down with flu, a housekeeper hid poison in a capsule and fed me with it..." Genevieve was stunned, and her anger subsided a little. "Why didn't you tell the receptionist?"

"I don't want to trouble them. Besides, whenever I was down with a fever in the past, I would feel better after sleeping through the night." Harry placed his hands on his thighs and sat quietly like an obedient child.

He then tilted his head to look at Genevieve. "I'm sorry, Genevieve."

Upon seeing his teary eyes, Genevieve could no longer get mad at him. "Don't be. I should have asked first before reprimanding you."

She then walked over and placed the back of her hand on his forehead.

After getting a feel of how hot his forehead was, she went to the washroom, dipped a towel in cold water, and placed it on Harry's forehead. When she was about to leave after helping him lie on the couch, he gripped her wrist to stop her from going away.

"Where are you going, Genevieve?" Harry asked in a hoarse voice.

"Since you can't take the capsules. I'll get you some tablets." She believed Harry would vomit out the capsules even if he forced himself to swallow them.

The pitiful look on the boy's face aroused her sympathy. Sighing, she queried, "What would you like to eat? I'll ask the hotel to prepare it for you." "Spaghetti with marinara sauce," he answered.

"Okay. Got it." Genevieve pulled her wrist away and pointed at the towel on the table. "You can use this towel if the one on your forehead gets hot." Humming in acknowledgment, Harry watched her leave the room.

Chapter 820

There was a pharmacy near the hotel. After Genevieve bought the fever medicine, the lunch prepared by the hotel was ready too. Hence, Genevieve picked up the lunch as well. When Genevieve returned to the suite, there was no one in the living room.

"Harry?"

Vaguely hearing Harry's voice coming from the bedroom, she hurriedly went there and found Harry walking out of the bathroom, his face twisting in pain.

"What's wrong?" Genevieve stepped forward quickly. When she touched Harry's arm, he inhaled sharply in pain.

Genevieve quickly retracted her hand. "Did you hurt your arm?"

"I wanted to go to use the toilet just now, but I was a little dizzy. I fell down in the bathroom when I wasn't paying attention. My right arm hit the sink," said Harry, enduring the pain.

It was supposed to be a sad story. However, Genevieve wanted to laugh when she imagined the scene.

After returning to the living room, she asked Harry to sit on the couch. Then she tore open the medicine box and handed two tablets to Harry.

Harry obediently swallowed the tablets and took a sip of warm water.

When Genevieve took the spray from her bag, she found a plum candy. Removing the candy wrapper, she handed the candy to

Harry. "The medicine is a bit bitter. Here. Take this candy."

"Okay." Harry lowered his head and directly bit the candy from the wrapper.

Genevieve could feel his warm breath on her fingers, but she did not put too much thought to it, as she felt he was still in pain.

Rolling up his sleeve, she saw a few bruises on his arm. Then, she aimed the spray at the bruises and sprayed lightly.

As Harry lowered his head, he saw Genevieve's pink lips. At that moment, the sweetness of the plum candy spread from his mouth to his heart. She is so gentle.

When he saw Genevieve stand up, the excitement in Harry's eyes quickly subsided. He flashed her a bright smile and said, "Thank you, Genevieve." "You're welcome." If it were someone else, Genevieve probably would not even bother.

Soon, Harry finished eating the plum candy, and he uttered carefully, "Genevieve, I can't hold a spoon. Can you feed me?"

"Use your left hand."

Harry responded briefly and used his left hand to pick up the lunch box on the table. However, he had difficulties opening the box with only one hand. Seeing that, Genevieve sighed and helped him to open the lunch box.

Initially, she wanted to just pass the spoon to Harry. However, she felt her heart soften seeing him pursing his lips, looking pitiful and helpless. Sighing deeply, she picked up a spoonful of pasta and fed it to his mouth.

Harry opened his mouth and ate it. "Thanks, Genevieve," he said with a broad smile.

"I'm a mother of two five-year-olds. I feel as if you're a kid too when taking care of you." Genevieve fed him another spoonful of pasta.

"You're so pretty, and you don't look like a mother at all," said Harry with his clear and pleasant voice, smiling.

Genevieve was flattered by his compliment, and her frustration immediately disappeared.

Harry finished eating one whole box of pasta. After a short moment, Genevieve used the back of her hand to check the temperature on his forehead.

His fever had subsided.

Just as Genevieve was about to speak, Harry uttered, "Genevieve, I got wet in the rain last night. I feel that my hair stinks. I wanted to wash my hair, but I'm not convenient to do so. Can you give me a hand?" "Since you've endured the stink all night, why don't you endure it for a little longer? Wait for your hand to recover and wash it yourself."

"But I feel really uncomfortable. Just rinse it with water will do. Please..." Harry stared at Genevieve with pitiful eyes.

Looking at his face, Genevieve felt as if she saw Amanda acting cute in front of her. Once again, her heart softened.

Genevieve led Harry to the bathroom. While she was helping him to wash his hair, Harry never stopped talking. He kept chatting with Genevieve, asking her about her educational background and about the interesting places in Dartan.

When Genevieve was about to pack up and leave, Harry came to her again with a phone in his hand.

"Genevieve, I don't understand these questions. Can you teach me?"

By the time Genevieve finished tutoring Harry, she looked out the window, noting that it was already dark outside.
