Ch. 381..385: My Sugar And Your Spice Chapter 381-385
Chapter 381 Eugene Was Confused
Instead of boarding the plane immediately, Leo had Eugene book a nearby hotel room.
He then spent over an hour in the bathroom.
As Leo's personal assistant, Eugene was very intelligent.
After recalling several instances of Leo behaving this way, he suddenly realized the reason for Leo's behavior.
So, it seemed that Leo only acted like this because of his interactions with Amelie.
Eugene was almost shocked by his own discovery.
Was it necessary to dislike someone so much? It seemed that Leo had truly let go of his feelings for Amelie.
Then, were the rescue today and previous instances of generosity simply because she was Bria's mother? As Eugene was pondering this, the door clicked open.
Wearing a bathrobe and drying his hair with a towel, Leo walked out.He had no expression on his handsome face, and his chest was red from the long shower. no.vel.e.book His legs were also red, and his hands and feet were wrinkled from being soaked in water.
Leo glanced at Eugene indifferently before picking up his phone and dialing a number.
"Find out who was bothering Amelie between 9 and 10 this morning and who recently had a problem with her!"
He then gave the country and location before hanging up.
Eugene was confused.
What did this mean? Did Leo dislike Amelie but still care about her? His previous conclusion had been overturned, and he was once again baffled.
When Leo turned around and saw Eugene's dazed expression, he glared at Eugene and said, "Get the plane ready!"
Eugene quickly nodded, finally coming to his senses.
He was just about to ask Leo about the reason for his changing attitude toward Amelie when Leo turned and walked into the changing room.
The plane landed in Clouson City at 3.00PM.
Just when it landed, Eugene walked over with his phone.
"It's a call for you."The call was from Victor.Eugene was curious about what Victor would say.Leo walked over and took the phone from Eugene's hand without a word, then looked at Eugene and didn't say anything.Eugene understood immediately and stepped back.
Leo didn't answer immediately but walked about 10 meters away to an open area before answering the phone.
"Speak!"
"Mr.Cornelius!"
Eugene was standing under the plane, lost in thought when Chandler walked over with a grin on his face.
Eugene didn't have much of an impression of Chandler, but he felt that Chandler was a decent guy who was nice and polite to everyone.
Melissa and Jodie were completely won over by him too.
"Why are you here, Mr.Chandler?" Eugene politely asked.
Chandler ran a hand through his short hair.
"I asked the captain of the plane and found out that you're coming back at this time, so I came to pick you guys up"
He smiled placidly, looking like someone anyone could bully.
Eugene didn't like men with this kind of personality, but he couldn't despise Chandler just because he didn't like the latter, so he maintained his politeness.
"Oh, Mr.Chandler, you're so thoughtful."
"We're family, so don't worry about it!" Chandler said.
After a moment of searching, his gaze settled on Leo in the distance, and he bobbed his chin a little.
"Talking business, huh?"
Eugene replied, "Yeah."
Chandler rubbed his hands.
"Who is Leo talking to? Why is he acting so secretive? Doesn't he trust you usually? Why is he avoiding you too?"
Eugene chuckled in his heart.
Chandler's words were full of hidden meanings. On the surface, Chandler was speaking up for Eugene, but in reality, Chandler was trying to sow discord between Eugene and Leo.
He had originally thought that this adopted son of the Alston Family was a simple-minded nice guy, but he was obviously not as naive as he appeared on the surface.
Eugene remained silent while covertly placing Chandler on his blacklist, adding him to the roster of individuals to be wary of.
"I'll go pack up," Eugene said before heading back to the plane.
Leo only had one suitcase.
When Eugene walked over, a flight attendant was carrying the suitcase toward him.
Seeing Eugene, she called out, "Mr.Cornelius."
Eugene politely nodded and walked straight into the cockpit.
"Mr.Cornelius," the captain had just put his headset on the shelf when he turned around and saw Eugene.
Eugene nodded and closed the door behind him.
Seeing him close the door, the captain knew Eugene had something important to say and didn't do anything else.
"In the future, don't reveal our whereabouts to anyone," Eugene reminded him.
The captain became instantly aware of what Eugene was saying. He asked, "What about Mrs.Alston and Miss Alston?"
"Don't tell them either!"
"Very well."
On the large lawn of the private airport, Leo was talking to Victor on the phone. Victor quickly told him what he had found out.
"Miss Dillon went on this trip to discuss business, but for some reason, she changed her mind. She was kidnapped by a group of local thugs disguised as cab drivers outside the hotel. These people often cheat others under the pretext of discussing business. no.vel.e.book I believe that they had been targeting Miss Dillon early on and had probably arranged to meet her to discuss business.
Miss Dillon changed her mind at the last minute probably because she found out about their true nature. However, it's strange that although Miss Dillon said she would discuss business with them, she didn't give them a specific time.Yet, they not only knew that Miss Dillon was there but even knew which hotel she was staying at.It's really puzzling"
"Are these people very influential?" Leo asked.
"They're egotistical, but not influential."
"Okay."
Leo didn't ask anything else and hung up the phone.
He walked back holding his phone and saw Chandler standing under the plane. When he saw Chandler, his brows furrowed.
"Why are you here?" Chandler put on a smile.
"Mrs.Alston knew you were coming back and sent me to pick you up."
"She did?"
Leo uttered, his lips curling in faint mockery.
Given Melissa's attitude toward him, she probably didn't even inquire about when he was coming back, so how could she send Chandler to pick him up? "Mr.Alston, do you want to go back to the company first?"
Eugene came down from the plane and saw Leo walking back, so he rushed over.
"No.I'll go home," Leo said, pointing toward Chandler with his chin.
"I'll ride with him." Eugene was taken aback.
Although Leo had never said it, he could tell that Leo didn't like Chandler.
Usually, Leo couldn't be bothered to look Chandler in the eye, let alone ride in his car.
What was Leo thinking?
"That's good to hear!"
Chandler heard Leo's words and was overjoyed, acting like a child who just got candy. He took the luggage from the flight attendant and quickly opened the trunk to put it in.
After doing so, he ran to open the car door, saying happily, "Leo, get in."
The fawning and joyful smile on his face nearly even moved Eugene's heart.
If Eugene hadn't seen through his true nature, he would have thought that Chandler was really so subservient in the Alston Family.Leo didn't say much.He simply lowered his head and got into the car.
Eugene was worried so he tried to follow them, saying, "Let me drive."
"No need."
Leo waved his hand.
"Mr.Cornelius, see you next time."
Chandler waved his hand with a happy and gentle smile.
Then, he got into the car and started the engine.
As Eugene watched the car drive away, his eyelids twitched uncontrollably.
Why did he feel that something was about to happen? In fact, Eugene’s sixth sense was right.
Something did happen.
Chapter 382 Don’t Make
Trouble for Amelie "Leo, what are you doing?!"
Seeing that he was slowly being lifted, Chandler began struggling and shouting non-stop.His hands were tied tightly behind him, and he was being hung up and raised toward the ceiling.
Due to his struggles, his body was shaking like a sandbag.
Chandler screamed and his eyes turned red; he was almost on the verge of tears.
"Stop this! Mrs.Alston and Jodie are still waiting for us to go back home: Leo sat on the only chair in the room, his gaze as cold as ever. His eyes were calm and his thin lips were pursed. He only looked at Chandler and had no intention of speaking. The two of Leo’s bodyguards were the ones who hung Chandler up.
Chandler looked down and saw Leo's jet-black hair and his icy eyes.
He finally burst into tears, crying out, "What's going on? How did it turn out like this? I just stopped the car.Why is this happening to me?"On the way, Leo told Chandler to stop the car.As soon as the car stopped, Chandler was dragged out by the bodyguards and then shoved into this room.
Chandler was so passive and pitiful at this moment with tears and snot running down his face that he had no image at all.
Seeing that Leo remained silent, Chandler stopped asking questions.
Instead, he begged for mercy.
"Leo, please let me go.If I made you unhappy in any way, just tell me.Even if you want me to leave that home, I-I'll do it!"
"You don't need to leave."
Leo, who had been silent all along, finally parted his lips and spoke with a faint smile.
"You can stay, and you can also make trouble there as you like."
Chandler was speechless.
A trace of surprise flashed in his eyes.He couldn't help but meet Leo's gaze, but when he looked into Leo's eyes, he still saw coldness and nothing more.
Even the bodyguards were shocked by Leo's words.
The boss allowed Chandler to create trouble at home? What was he thinking? "But you absolutely cannot make trouble for Amelie!"Leo's eyes were cold and he spoke ina firm tone.
"Leo, what are you saying? How could I make trouble at home? I swear to God! I've never done that before!"
Chandler quickly suppressed his emotions and spoke in a pitiful tone.He continued, "Are you thinking that I am being too nice to Mrs.Alston and Jodie? If you don't like it, I won't do it anymore.I'm sorry.I really didn't think that my actions would cause you harm."
Chandler's performance was done with great effort as he tried hard to portray himself as a weak and wronged guy.Leo beckoned to the bodyguards with his finger.
They understood and let Chandler down using the ropes.
When Chandler's feet landed on the ground, his legs were so weak that he almost fell over.Leo walked over, picked up his collar, and lifted him before saying in a serious tone, "Listen. If I ever see you try to harm Amelie again, you're dead!"
As soon as he said this, heavy killing intent filled the room, and the temperature dropped sharply until it reached freezing point! Chandler, who was still trying to put on an act, suddenly stiffened. no.vel.e.book He was completely stunned.
After a moment, he immediately shook his head again.
"I swear to God; I really didn't do anything to Miss Dillon.Leo, Miss Dillon is so capable! What can I do with the little ability I have? Moreover, she is abroad, so even if I wanted to cause trouble for her, I wouldn't be able to do it, would I?"
As he spoke, he used his bound hands to pat his chest as if he wished he could take out his heart to show Leo.
Leo ignored his acting, let go of him, and turned to leave.
Victor stood in the distant shadow and watched silently.
Seeing that Chandler was still pretending to be innocent at this point, he sneered. He was aware that Chandler had conspired against Amelie by enticing her to Mospal and then having Melissa bring Leo there.
Wasn't all of that an attempt to cause trouble? Moreover, Chandler gave the wrong hotel room number and even provided those two thugs with information about Amelie's location.
Later, Chandler mobilized a group of people to continue to work against Amelie even after she had successfully extricated herself from the situation.
Chandler's scheming surpassed the ordinary, yet he had the misfortune of facing off against Leo.Leo was cool-headed with a frighteningly sharp mind.He had likely deciphered Chandler's intentions the day Chandler first entered Alston Residence.
Leo admitted that he didn't mind if Chandler stirred up trouble at home, so he ignored it.
Chandler, however, believed he was clever and had successfully concealed his motives.
Little did he know that he was facing a superior opponent! Victor had been with Leo for more than two years and knew a little bit about Alston Family's affairs.
Leo was exceedingly forgiving of Chandler because Chandler was initially adopted to be the heir, but after Leo returned, Melissa ousted Chandler.
Leo felt remorseful for this.
Besides that...
Victor's gaze turned to Leo.
Those eyes that were indifferent to everything slowly narrowed.
Victor was a detective with a meticulous mind, and he had long noticed that Leo had been living in pain for the past years.
In fact, the expansion of his business territory was not because Leo had high ambitions.
If he didn't put his mind on business, he would probably have been depressed to death.
He owed people too much and didn't even know it.
Thinking of this, Victor brushed his hands, then silently left the room.
"Victor."
Victor had only walked a few blocks when he was stopped by a pretty girl who got out of an SUV.
"I have a job for you.My boyfriend is cheating on me"
Victor lifted his eyes indifferently.
"Miss Juventus, this is the fifth time your boyfriend has cheated on you"
"Well, there's nothing I can do about it."
The girl nervously touched her hair and leaned forward.
"I don't want this to happen either.I don't know why, but these men all love to cheat."
As she leaned forward, the fragrance on her body rushed into Victor's nose. no.vel.e.book Victor stepped back and kept a safe distance from her.
"Sorry, I don't take on these kinds of jobs," he said and walked away.
"Victor!"
The girl stomped her feet, her face full of distress. She grabbed her own hair in frustration.
"This keeps happening. What should I do?"
"This guy not only has a cold personality, but he also seems to have a disconcerting past.Don't bother him."
A woman in her 30s came from behind and advised her.The girl pouted.
"I know you're right, but I just like him.Miss Lemon, can't you help me?" She kept shaking the woman's shoulder back and forth, her voice pitiful.
Miss Lemon was getting dizzy from being shaken so much, but she still pulled her hand away firmly.
"Are you just thinking about romance all day long? What about your career? If you don't do kissing or bed scenes, which director will hire you? If you keep this up, you'll be out of a job."
"So be it," the girl said nonchalantly and walked out.
Behind her, Miss Lemon shook her head helplessly, "Bella, it's not worth keeping your virginity for a man you can't even get."
Amelie had just landed when Julia called.
"Elie, I've decided to divorce Samuel!"
Amelie nearly dropped her phone from the explosive news.
"What happened? You just got married!"
Chapter 383 Better Than a Dog
"He didn't say a word to me when such a big thing happened to you. How could I not divorce him?" Julia shouted.
"So… You're doing this for me?"
"You're my best friend. You went to such a dangerous place, and he should have accompanied you—no matter what!" Julia's voice still sounded angry.
Amelie felt both warm and amused, "He asked me to bring a bodyguard, but I refused. Also, I didn't want him to tell you."
"I don't believe it!" Julia still thought Amelie was helping Samuel.
"It's true," Amelie assured her again and again. "If you divorce him over this, won't I become the guilty one? You're my good friend. Don't do this to me."
Julia was dumbfounded. "Then I'll give him the cold shoulder for a few days."
"Okay, then just give him the cold shoulder!" Amelie finally felt relieved when she heard Julia's tone soften.
"Elie, there's something strange I've noticed." Julia finally got to the point after venting her anger. "Did you tell anyone that you were going there? How did those people find out?"
Amelie had been wondering about this too.
"Could it be your assistant who leaked that information?"
Amelie had hired a secretary to help with work. It was a young woman named Gladys Shea who had just graduated from college. Amelie thought about Gladys' character carefully and shook her head. "She's just a young girl who's new to the job. Her social connections are not very complicated. She couldn't possibly know those people."
"Then who could it be?" This was like an unsolvable problem standing between the two of them. Amelie had more doubts besides this, such as how Leo happened to travel to the same country with her and stay in the same hotel. Life wasn't like a TV drama, and she didn't believe in that many coincidences. If it wasn't a coincidence, then was it deliberate? Who did it? Leo?
Amelie thought hard about it and became more confused.
In the dark room, Leo still hadn't let go of Chandler. Chandler had no clue how much Leo knew about his secrets, so he had to continue pretending to be ignorant.
"Leo, I don't know why you mentioned Miss Dillon, but I have no contact with her. Is there some misunderstanding between us?"
Leo didn't turn around but instead made a gesture with his hand. The bodyguards got the message and suddenly pushed Chandler to the ground. Then, they started punching and kicking him. Chandler curled up and held his head in a fetal position without any intention of fighting back. Immediately, the sound of punches and kicks filled the room. The bodyguards all knew that Leo was giving Chandler a taste of his own medicine for what he did to Amelie. Chandler had to feel what it was like to be beaten up too!
Just when things were getting intense, the door was kicked open and Melissa stormed in, holding her bag. She was shocked to see Chandler getting beaten up and she instantly screamed in disbelief, "What the hell is going on here? Stop it! Stop right now!"
She stumbled in and began screaming at the bodyguards. However, the bodyguards only listened to Leo and ignored her. She was frustrated with their ignorance and decided to look to Leo for answers. "Leo,
why are you beating up Chandler? He's innocent!"
Nevertheless, Leo simply turned around, his face indifferent as he stared at his own mother who was half a head shorter than him. His cold, heartless stare made Melissa's heart freeze as if she had just been drenched in ice water. Am I really afraid of my own son now?
The sound of Chandler's painful screams alongside the punching and kicking continued to echo in her ears. It made Melissa feel sick to her stomach. Her heart was pounding, and her face turned pale.
Leo's indifference made her tremble with anger. She couldn't hold back her tears anymore after remembering the years of coldness Leo had shown her. With tears rolling down her face, she said, "Leo, I'm your mother! How could you do this to me? I've raised you since you were a baby! Since you don't care about me as your mother, I have no choice but to find someone willing to respect me and be close to me. Are you even trying to drive him away now?"
Melissa became more and more aggrieved as she spoke, and her tears fell like rain. Melissa couldn't understand why Leo was so cold to her all these years. She only thought about his indifference and didn't even consider the consequences of her actions. She kept crying until she was gasping for breath.
Finally, Leo raised his hand and the bodyguards stopped their actions.
Melissa hurriedly ran over to Chandler. "Chandler, how are you?"
Chandler was beaten up badly, with bruises all over his face. At that moment, he was being lifted by two bodyguards. He shook his head weakly toward Melissa and said, "Mrs. Alston… D-Don't blame Leo. I-It's all a misunderstanding. I'm fine…" He was a mess with a bloody face and dirt all over him like he had just been pulled out of a trash can.
Melissa didn't want to get too close because she was disgusted by how dirty he was. She only commanded the bodyguards, "Hurry up and take him back!"
The bodyguards dragged Chandler out and quickly left the room. Then, Melissa fanned her nose. She stood up for Chandler only because she was afraid that Leo would hurt him so badly that no one could please her and make her happy anymore as Chandler did.
"Leo, I didn't want you to hit Chandler because I'm afraid you'll end up committing a crime," said Melissa.
After Chandler left, Melissa realized that what she had said was wrong and quickly explained herself to Leo. Eugene, who had overheard their conversation, almost burst out laughing. Melissa wanted Chandler to be the gentle and affectionate son, but she also wanted Leo's financial power and influence. Her greed was apparent.
Leo's current demeanor was a direct result of Melissa's actions as his mother, leaving her with an unshakable responsibility. Despite this, Melissa shamelessly portrayed herself as the victim and attempted to gain Leo's forgiveness without realizing the emotional toll her actions had taken on him. Eugene couldn't take it anymore, so he walked over and said, "Mr. Alston, the car is ready."
As Leo stepped out, Melissa's eyes bulged behind him. She thought Leo was very ungrateful.
"Goodbye, Mrs. Alston." Eugene pretended not to notice her annoyance and bid goodbye to her before quickly catching up with Leo.
…
When Melissa returned home, Chandler had already changed his clothes, and the blood on his face had been washed off, but he still had ugly purple bruises that resembled a color palette.
Seeing her, he limped over to greet her and take her bag, "Mrs. Alston, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Melissa recoiled at the sight of him and avoided his hand as he took her bag. "You have bruises on your face. You should rest early."
She couldn't help thinking that his face would give her nightmares that night.
Chandler pretended not to notice her disgust and showed a grateful look instead. "Thank you, Mrs. Alston," he said.
He added, "You are the only one who has cared for me since I was a child, and I'm so…" He began to choke up with tears.
His acting was so genuine that Melissa felt guilty and walked over to pat his hand. "As long as you're okay, that's all that matters."
"Yeah." Chandler nodded and hid his cunning eyes. "Don't argue with Leo tonight because of what happened. Mrs. Alston, I just want you two to get along. If I affect your relationship with him, I-I'll have to leave."
"Don't worry, it won't happen," Melissa replied, not wanting Chandler to leave. Chandler understood her heart and could always make her happy without her having to worry about him. It was even better than keeping a dog.
However, Chandler had no illusions about how Melissa saw him. He sneered in his heart while flattering her with sweet words.
"But why did Leo hit you?" Melissa asked. She had only received a call from the driver who had accompanied Chandler; he told her that Leo had dragged Chandler into a house. Although she had gone to rescue Chandler, she had no idea what led to the situation in the first place.
Chandler had been waiting for this question. After hearing her words, he sighed, seemingly reluctant to speak.
Chapter 384 Leo Falls Ill
"You haven't done anything bad, have you?" Melissa still knew him somewhat despite his cold demeanor, and he wouldn't just attack someone for no reason.
"I didn't do anything bad." Chandler hastily shook his head as if he had been caught doing something wrong. "But Leo thinks I did."
"What do you mean by that?" Her patience was wearing thin, and she was getting annoyed.
"Please stop asking me, Mrs. Alston." Chandler looked like he couldn't say anything. "I-I'm in pain. I need to rest!"
With that, he hurriedly ran upstairs.
Chandler's reluctance to speak was like a hook in Melissa's heart, making her uneasy.
However, she always had a sense of superiority and cared about her reputation, so she would not lower herself to ask more questions.
To Melissa, that was a very embarrassing thing to do. As these conflicting thoughts collided within her, she couldn't help pacing back and forth in the room.
Just as she was walking, she suddenly bumped into someone.
"Ouch!"
The person whom she collided with was Jodie.
Jodie was pushed back several steps, and her foot was twisted painfully.
"Mom, what are you doing?!" Jodie glared. Initially, she wanted to hit the person but quickly retracted her hand upon seeing it was Melissa. She rubbed her sore ankle and complained, "Can't you see me? Why did you bump into me like that?"
Melissa slowly regained her senses and saw that it was her daughter. She asked, "Are you okay?"
"How can I be okay? I was almost knocked over." Jodie rubbed her ankle, then her shoulder where she was hit. "Mom, are you dating someone? You seem absent-minded."
"What are you talking about?!" A hint of awkwardness appeared on Melissa's face. "I'm just worried about your brother!"
"What's wrong with Leo?" Jodie asked.
Melissa recounted the incident where Leo suddenly hit Chandler and how he hesitated to speak thereafter.
"I can tell that Chandler is hiding something, and it's related to Leo."
"It can't be that Leo has a terminal illness, can it?" Jodie cried out in concern. If Leo does have a terminal illness, what will happen to the company in the future? I am not ready to take over the company yet.
She just wanted to play all day and being in charge of the company was like a bolt from the blue.
Melissa became even more worried when she heard Jodie's words. If Leo dies ahead of me, what will I do with the rest of my life?
She had briefly taken over the company in her youth, but her abilities were limited. Fortunately, Warren was still alive at the time and helped support her.
However, he had passed away many years ago, so she had no one to rely on.
If Leo died, many people would try to take over the company.
When Melissa was younger, she was ambitious and wanted to fight for everything, but after years of living a comfortable life, her ambition had long been gone. Thinking about these things now just gave her a headache.
"Jojo, look for Chandler now and find out what's happening!"
Jodie didn't dare to delay any further and forgot about the pain in her foot as she ran upstairs.
At Chandler's door, she knocked incessantly and called out, "Chandler, come out!"
After a moment, Chandler opened the door. "Jojo, what do you want this late?"
She quickly entered his room and closed the door, asking earnestly, "Tell me the truth, is Leo sick?"
Chandler was surprised by her question.
Seeing his reaction, Jodie was shocked. Her legs went weak, and she almost fell to the ground.
Fortunately, there was a wall behind her to support her. Even so, she couldn't hold on to it and kept sinking to the ground.
Chandler looked at her lack of resilience and coldly sneered in his heart. However, he showed great concern on the surface. "Jojo, what's wrong? Why are you so scared?"
He reached to help her up but looked hesitant.
"Leo is indeed sick, but it's just a mental illness. It's nothing serious."
Hearing it was only a mental illness, Jodie relaxed slightly, and her body didn't slip further down. She couldn't help but ask, "What illness does he have? Is it depression? Does he have suicidal tendencies?"
"Don't worry. It's not depression." Chandler smiled and shook his head. "Actually, his illness only happens when he sees Amelie."
"What do you mean?"
Chandler briefly mentioned that Leo would constantly wash his hands after coming into contact with Amelie.
He added, "Since Amelie is often overseas, there is hardly any chance for them to interact. So, Leo is fine most of the time."
"No interaction? What about the past few days?!" He spoke lightly, but Jodie fumed with rage.
"Amelie has been pestering Leo, making him look like a monster with a long face all day. It has affected the atmosphere in our home. After finally sending her away, she still causes trouble abroad. What a jerk!"
Jodie didn't have much sense, and her temper was easily provoked. Just mentioning Leo and Amelie's meeting overseas was enough to make her furious. "This woman deserves a lesson. She'll take advantage of us if we don't teach her that!"
After speaking, she angrily grabbed her bag and stormed out of Chandler's room.
…
"Good morning, Amelie."
In the morning, Amelie walked toward her office while receiving greetings from her subordinates.
After arriving in Lumaria, she had explicitly bought a three-story building for her office space and hired nearly a hundred employees.
She implemented a flexible company system with no strict demands on her employees and preferred to be addressed in a friendly manner.
So, regardless of age, everyone called her first name.
As she passed by, she left behind a light fragrance, and the low-level employees carrying documents couldn't help but cast a worshipful gaze at her back.
It was inevitable that they worshiped her.
Even men could not single-handedly establish such an influential knowledge platform in less than three years.
"Amelie." When Amelie arrived at the office door, her assistant greeted her, looking very unhappy.
Gladys didn't hide her mood well.
"What's up?" Amelie took off the strap from her shoulder and casually asked while holding the bag.
Gladys grunted. "Didn't we have the qualification exam yesterday? Two of the participants didn't pass, and the staff notified them. They came to beg for passing grades. I refused, but they came back this morning."
The qualification exam for the Knowlit training camp was not just a formality but rather a carefully organized question bank by experts. Anyone who failed would not be accepted.
"I've said everything that needs to be said, but they just won't leave and insist on seeing you." Gladys had been harassed by the two for a long time and was rubbing her temples non-stop.
Just then, a man and a woman walked out of the reception room.
Chapter 385 Exposing Scandals
The two stopped before her, and the man asked, "Are you Miss Dillon, the highest person in charge of Knowlit?"
"Yes," Amelie responded calmly, her gaze falling on the two.
They were dressed very plainly, and their social status was not high.
"Please let me participate in your advanced management training camp," the woman pleaded urgently. "I know that I'm not good enough, but I want to improve!"
After speaking, she looked at Amelie with a thirst for knowledge.
Amelie smiled, invited the two back to the reception room, personally poured them coffee, and sat across from them.
"We administer an exam for our training camp to select the appropriate candidates for the course. The two of you did not pass our exam, so even if you attend the training camp, there's a possibility that you might not comprehend it and end up wasting your money. It's advisable to opt for the relatively basic low- level management training camp, which has significantly lower fees and will be more beneficial for you."
"Do you think we can't afford the tuition fees? Don't worry. We won't be short on money," the man said.
The woman nodded. "We can pay the tuition fees immediately!"
After speaking, she opened her bag and took out a card.
"Although we don't earn a lot, we value learning very much. No matter how expensive it is, we must learn!"
After speaking, she handed the card over with both hands.
Seeing the two of them like this, Gladys could only shrug helplessly at Amelie.
Amelie smiled and pushed the card away. "I know you value learning, but you must not rush things. Take it slow."
"Yes, it's not just you—even we would start with the low-level courses before learning something new." Gladys chimed in and said, "We have an obligation to our students."
"Alternatively, you may attend the low-level courses at no cost, and if you deem them appropriate, you may enroll." Amelie politely proposed. She showed that she would not consent to their demand to skip levels.
"We still want to listen to the advanced courses," the pair persisted. "Miss Dillon, we implore you to fulfill our request. You are willing to permit us to try the low-level courses without cost, so why not accept our payment for the advanced courses? Since you provide these courses to earn money, there's no reason to reject our proposal."
Listening to their words, Gladys felt like rolling her eyes.
Do these individuals perceive our platform as another unscrupulous business where anything can be obtained with money? If we only prioritized quantity over quality, our platform would have gone bankrupt long ago.
"We have researched numerous platforms and heard that your courses are the most exceptional. We must take your courses, no matter what it takes. If you do not allow us to participate in the advanced training camp, we will not leave," exclaimed the woman as she sat on the chair in a fit of pique.
Amelie was a principled person and didn't compromise just because someone was upset. She nodded at Gladys and said, "Give them more coffee and prepare some food."
After speaking, she turned around and walked out.
"Miss Dillon!" The woman panicked when she saw that Amelie was determined not to let them in.
She hastily ran over and desperately grabbed Amelie's hand. "I know you mean well, and everything you do is for our benefit. But we haven't tried the course, so how do we know if it's unsuitable just yet?"
"Why don't you let us join and see? If we can't keep up, we'll leave without asking for a refund," interjected the man as he stood behind them.
Upon hearing that, Amelie looked at the pair.
Gladys approached and suggested in a low voice, "Perhaps we should allow them to give it a try. They seem very committed to joining the training camp and turning them away wouldn't be fair. We could let them pay for the time they've attended the class."
The two of them softened Gladys' heart.
Amelie looked at the two for a moment. "I won't change my mind, but I'll allow you to attend the class for two days as visitors. Gladys, give them a visitor pass."
"Okay!" Gladys had a gleam in her eyes as she looked at Amelie with an admiring gaze.
Amelie is a person with principles and a kind heart. Even though she knows the two of them are unsuitable, she still wants to give them a chance to broaden their horizons.
After giving her instructions, Amelie finally pulled her hand away and turned to leave.
"What does she mean?" The two of them didn't understand Amelie's intention and turned to look at Gladys.
Gladys smiled and said, "Amelie is kind enough to allow you to attend the class as visitors, and you'll save on two days of tuition fees."
Their training camp was high quality, and the price was not cheap either. Two days of tuition fees was a large sum for ordinary people.
After returning to her office, Amelie started handling her work. She only came to the company for half a day every day, and all her work had to be completed within that time frame. Thus, time was tight, and the workload was heavy.
Not long after, Gladys walked in with a cup of freshly brewed coffee in her hands. The brown liquid was steaming.
She placed the coffee gently on Amelie's side. Amelie's eyes were fixed on the computer screen, her fingers typing away at the keyboard. Without lifting her head, Amelie asked, "Have they left?"
Gladys put down the coffee and was about to leave when Amelie asked her a question. Gladys nodded quickly and replied, "Yes, they left. You're really smart. Instead of wasting time trying to convince them to enroll in a lower-level course, you let them try it out for two days. They'll leave sooner or later if they can't grasp the material."
Amelie was slightly stunned.
Then, she picked up the cup and brought it to her lips. She said, "Don't forget their visitor pass."
"Okay," replied Gladys before walking out cheerfully.
Amelie was busy all morning and barely had time for lunch. She usually did her live streaming in the afternoon.
During this time, Steven found a group of peers from Capland to learn yoga. Amelie wanted him to stay focused, so she usually ate lunch outside.
Julia's phone call came as she finished eating and was wiping her mouth.
"Hello, Jules."
"Elie, are you going to do a live stream later? Listen to me, don't do it today!" Julia said nervously and seriously.
"What happened?"
"I don't know who exposed your real identity and even… exposed your scandal." Julia was so angry that she couldn't control herself.
Amelie was slightly stunned.
After a moment, she quickly took out another phone and opened the news page.
Finding her name on the trending topic didn't take much effort.
'Miss Foxy's identity now exposed, tied to a well-known businessman.'
'The positive image of Miss Foxy has collapsed, exposed to have shared a bed to force a marriage.'
'How shameless is a woman who uses her child to climb the social ladder? Insiders talk about Miss Foxy.'
'The true colors of the super internet celebrity with a hundred million fans.'
Several titles appeared in a row, ranked from fifth to tenth place, and they were quickly moving up to the top. It wouldn't take long for them to reach the headlines.
Amelie looked at it and realized that it had only been an hour since the first post was published, but the number of clicks had already exceeded one million. There were also thousands of comments.
"It seems like someone is trying to set you up," Julia said, trying to remain composed. "Given the size of your fan base, trying to suppress the news won't work. It will only keep spreading. So, what should we do?"
Julia had been managing Starlight Media for many years and had dealt with many difficult internet celebrity scandals. But at this moment, she couldn't help feeling helpless.
Amelie's one million followers were enough to push the news to the top and burn her to ashes without using any bot accounts.
How cruel!
After such a big incident, it was a lie to say that Amelie was not affected by it.
Amelie quickly scrolled through a few entries with her long fingers and read the articles at the fastest speed possible.
The articles were similar and inferring that the same person had provided the information was not difficult.
"Don't worry about it." She quickly calmed down and spoke.
"Why? How can you not worry about it? They will destroy you," Julia exclaimed anxiously, her eyes welling up with tears. "Fans are a double-edged sword; they can lift you as quickly as they bring you down. In this case, the other party clearly has ulterior motives. They've probably even arranged for outsiders to stir up trouble."
"If that's what they want to do, let them do it. The situation is already beyond our control, and there's no point in wasting more human or financial resources."
Julia had to admire Amelie's composure in this situation. If this happened to her, she would've probably gone crazy.
"Have you figured out what to do next?" she asked weakly.
