Never Late, Never Away Chapter 781

As long as Vivian is happy, everything else isn’t important.

“Don’t worry, Ben,” Finnick avowed as he looked Benedict in the eye.

Even if he didn’t say that, I’ll still take good care of Vivian. It’ll be dumb of me if I let her leave again after having spent so much effort to win her back.

“I trust you.” Just after Benedict had said this, Vivian’s scream pierced the air.

“Ahh!”

Upon hearing her scream, both Benedict and Finnick swiftly sprinted up the stairs.

However, it wasn’t because they were curious. Rather, the cry was simply too chilling.

“What’s wrong, Vivian?” Finnick dashed into the room, but he didn’t see any sign of Vivian.

He searched the entire room, but there were only a few things that hadn’t been packed scattered about the room.

Then, he circled the room. All of a sudden, he noticed something amiss at the windowsill. The curtains had already been taken down, proving that she was there when she was last in the room.

As such, Finnick walked toward the window step by step. The closer he drew, the faster his heart pounded.

He simply couldn’t believe the truth that was staring him right in the face. No… that can’t be it! If she truly had an accident there, the consequences would be inconceivable!

He was now three steps away.

Two steps.

One step.

Finally, he reached the window. When he heard the rustling of clothes, he looked right down, out the window.

Sure enough, Vivian had been pulled out of the window and was now on the ledge where the air-conditioner was located.

Seeing that, Finnick promptly leaped down and snatched Vivian away from the woman.

“Are you okay, Vivian?” Finnick queried to ascertain that she wasn’t hurt since he didn’t see any injuries on her after first looking her over.

“I’m fine. I just suffered a fright.” Vivian shook her head smilingly as she looked at him.

Her smile, however, was tinged with a hint of relief and lingering fear after her near brush with death.

Finnick’s heart clenched at the sight of the smile, and he frowned. In the next moment, he swung his gaze at the woman at the side.

She’s the person I’d just publicly blacklisted just now! At that moment, he finally understood what this was all about.

“What exactly do you want?” Vivian demanded, for she had also recognized her.

“Nothing. I just want a job and to be a good reporter. But you, Finnick Norton, pushed me to the edge of the cliff.”

The woman’s name was Yolanda Yeager. She was from a poor family, and her dream was to be a successful reporter.

However, the questions she usually posed were overly unscrupulous. On top of that, she also had no qualms doing anything at all for a scoop. For that reason, she had offended many people within the industry.

This time, her question had incensed Finnick, so she was blacklisted. As no friends in the industry were willing to lend her a helping hand, she chose to give up on herself and go for broke.

She wanted to take revenge against Finnick, but he seemed to be an exceedingly difficult target, so she went for Vivian, who appeared like easy prey.

“Yes, you didn’t do anything grievous, but you are unscrupulous in your quest to obtain a scoop. Plus, you disregarded someone else’s life just to vent your resentment. While you didn’t do anything wrong, your question disrupted our life.”

“People should help each other, unlike you and your selfish disposition. Just leave. I won’t pursue the matter this time.”

Vivian could be considered a colleague of hers in the past, so she understood her feelings well.

Fortunately, I didn’t sustain any injuries this time, or I won’t be able to spare her even if I do want to do so considering Finnick’s temperament.

“Let’s go.” After saying that, Finnick carried Vivian back to the room.

“Don’t forget your initial intentions,” Finnick said to Yolanda mildly before leaving. Then, he climbed up the windowsill.

“I’m sorry I worried you, Ben.” Vivian noticed her brother staring at her intently after getting back into the room, so she flashed him a smile in reassurance.

“It’s okay. Nothing matters as long as you’re fine.” Benedict then cast Finnick a glance before he left the room.

“Alright, everything’s over. I’m here, so don’t be afraid.”

Finnick knew that Vivian had definitely suffered a fright earlier, so he stepped forward and hugged her, stroking her back in consolation.

“Alright, I’m fine. Let’s pack up and go home.” Vivian wasn’t all that melodramatic either. It’s no big deal. I was just yanked out of the window earlier.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 782

Luckily, there’s a ledge underneath, else I might have truly plunged over the windowsill. Even if the fall doesn’t kill me, it would’ve crippled me.

“Okay.” Finnick stayed by her side at all times, worried that she would once again suffer any harm.

Meanwhile, Benedict kept an eye on them both. When he was certain that everything was fine, he decided to drive and see them home.

“Vivian, I’ll drive your luggage over, and you two drive home by yourselves.” Benedict didn’t want to intrude on them, so he proposed splitting up.

Vivian naturally knew his intention, so she merely nodded in acquiescence.

“I’ll be going, then.” After saying that, Benedict left when Vivian had murmured an acknowledgment.

Thus, it was only Vivian, Finnick, and Larry left in the house. Fortunately, Larry was with Finnick during Vivian’s incident, else things might have been disastrous.

When Vivian and Finnick saw that Benedict had left, they quickly got ready to leave as well. Benedict was a guest, after all, so it was an affront if they were still tarrying elsewhere when the guest had already arrived at their house.

“Vivian, Larry, let’s go.” They all left after Finnick had gathered Vivian and Larry.

Noah, on the other hand, had left with Benedict to make some arrangements at home.

“Okay!” Finnick held Vivian and Larry’s hands, one on either side of him.

At that moment, the family of three wore a blissful expression on their faces.

It had been a long time since Vivian had last gone back to Finnick’s house.

I wonder if it’s still the same – if there are still traces of me having lived there and whether the modifications I did remain.

Thinking of that, she couldn’t contain the excitement within her and was eager to go home for a look.

Sensing her mood, Finnick sped up. Likewise, he couldn’t wait for her to see that the house looked exactly the same as it did before she had left. Nothing had changed.

“Daddy, is our house big?” Larry questioned. He was trying to imagine how the new house looked like, yet he just couldn’t picture it.

“Yup. It’s even bigger than your Uncle Benedict’s house,” Finnick answered indulgently as he looked at Larry’s adorable expression.

And indeed, it was the truth – their house was indeed bigger than Benedict’s. Although it was merely a little bigger, it still counted.

“Yay! That’s great! I love huge houses!” Larry clapped his hands in delight when he heard Finnick’s reply.

While Vivian knew why he liked big houses, the same couldn’t be said for Finnick.

Truthfully speaking, it was because Finnick wasn’t around when Larry was young.

“Why do you like huge houses, little pumpkin?” That question lingered within Finnick, so he gave voice to it.

“Because if I live in a big house when I’m young, I’ll definitely want to live in a bigger house in the future. Then, I’ll be able to protect Mommy!”

Larry had been cognizant of the fact that he was a man ever since young, so he had to shoulder the responsibility of protecting his mother because his father wasn’t there.

Although Daddy is now here, I’m still Mommy’s little man, so I must protect her!

Upon hearing that, Finnick’s heart jolted. My son is far better than I’d imagined! At the very least, he knows that he’s a man and is willing to shoulder the responsibility due to him instead of being irresponsible. In today’s society, even some grown men lack such sentiment, but my son is already thinking this way at such a tender age. He’s indeed my son, a giant among men!

“But why are you not protecting me, little pumpkin?” In truth, Finnick wasn’t bothered about this; he merely wanted to know how Larry was going to answer.

“Hmm… You’re a man, so you don’t need me to protect you. Plus, I believe that you’ve got the capability to protect both me and Mommy,” Larry replied after pondering for a moment.

When his words fell, Vivian, who had remained silent throughout it all, chuckled aloud.

“What if I don’t have the capability to protect myself?” Finnick adamantly asked further.

“Then, I’ll protect you,” Larry declared resolutely as he stared at him.

People will inevitably grow old. If Daddy doesn’t have the capability anymore, I’ll protect both Daddy and Mommy since I’ll have grown up by that time!

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 783

“Sure, sure.” That was the first time Finnick had ever heard someone promising to protect him, and it was his own son at that. All at once, joy bloomed within him.

“However, you’ve got to love me a lot. You must love me more than you love Mommy,” Larry blurted worriedly as something seemingly occurred to him out of the blue.

At that, Finnick thought that he was jealous of Vivian. Conversely, Vivian knew the true reason behind his request.

“Why?” Finnick couldn’t resist asking.

“Because you’ve already doted on Mommy so much in the past, yet you’ve never doted on me, Daddy. So, you’ve got to compensate me.”

Larry knew that he had misspoken earlier, but since the words were already out of his mouth, he didn’t change his tune. Instead, he bit the bullet and uttered it with laughter in his voice.

It sounded as though it was a joke, but Finnick finally realized that he wasn’t jealous but lacked fatherly love.

It’s because I wasn’t by his side ever since he’s young that he never had any fatherly love. And though he said it in a joking manner, it’s even more distressing than if he’d done so in a disappointed tone. What had he gone through that he’s even speaking of something unhappy with a smile?

At the thought of that, his heart twisted in agony time and again. He didn’t know what to say to console Larry.

At this precise moment, Vivian, who was sitting with Larry, spoke.

“I’m sorry, little pumpkin. It was me who deprived you of the five years you could’ve been with your daddy. If it wasn’t because of me, you wouldn’t be so unhappy now.”

She knew that she was at fault in this matter, but she had always thought that Larry wasn’t bothered about his father, whose identity he didn’t even know. Never had she expected him to have always been longing for his father.

Thus, this was quite a revelation to her.

“No, don’t take all the blame on yourself. And don’t worry, Larry. I’ll never again abandon you in the future.”

A bolt of anguish lanced through Finnick when he heard Vivian shouldering all the blame, so he spoke and gave Larry a promise.

“It’s a promise, then. Mommy, Daddy, you must keep your word, okay?” Larry put on a cute expression after hearing that, making them both laugh.

Subsequently, Vivian and Finnick inadvertently met each other’s eyes, both tickled pink.

Finnick reached out and took her hand, warmth filling him as he gazed at her.

Meanwhile, Larry docilely sit on Vivian’s lap and did his best not to disrupt the two lovebirds when he saw the blissful expressions on their face.

About twenty minutes later, they arrived home.

From the look of things, Finnick reckoned that Benedict had reached a long time ago, and he was now drinking tea on the sofa.

Beside him was Noah, who said nary a word.

Strangely enough, ever since Noah admitted to his mistake back then, he had been increasingly taciturn.

Everyone had noticed this, but no one said anything. After all, perhaps he just had nothing much to say.

Vivian, on the other hand, felt that there was something amiss with him. Therefore, she planned to ask him about it when she was .

“Didn’t you two take the same route as I did? Why are you only arriving now?” Benedict couldn’t help grousing as he had already drunk several cups of tea before he finally spotted the three of them.

“No, no, it’s because your car is good. Next time, gift us one, and you won’t have to wait for us,” Vivian quipped impishly.

Since he’s complaining that we’re slow, I’ll just ask him to give us a car! While there are already a lot of cars in the garage, I don’t mind having another one, especially if it’ll be at zero cost to boot!

“Hey, you’re always trying to take advantage of me! Ask your man to give you whatever you want.” Benedict wasn’t about to fall prey to her trick.

In reality, he didn’t mind buying her a car, but it would be extremely embarrassing if he were to truly do so after she had put it in such a manner.”

“Hehe.” Vivian merely gave an awkward bark of laughter in response to his retort.

“Have a look at the newspaper this morning. You two are the talk of the town now.” Benedict snagged the newspaper that had just been published that morning from the table and handed it to them so that they could see what had happened.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 784

Finnick knew without a hint of doubt that it was the doing of the group of reporters yesterday. Vivian, however, wanted to know what the reporters wrote about them.

As soon as she picked up the newspaper, a huge headline that was very conspicuous stared her right in the face.

“The Truth Is Revealed For The Kidnapping Case A Few Days Ago: The Culprit Turns Out To Be The Son!”

“The President Of Norton Corporation And His Wife Reconciles, Heartwarmingly Disposing Trash With Son!”

“The President Of Norton Corporation Domineeringly Declares That Ms. Vivian Morrison Is His Wife!”

Vivian read all the headlines aloud. She couldn’t help but feel impressed at all these headlines.

She then moved on to the contents, only to find them rather similar, thus lost interest.

Consequently, she placed the newspaper down.

“It’s okay. It’s no big deal being the talk of the town.” Vivian didn’t mind it since she was used to it in the past. It’s just a reinstatement of my life five years ago.

“Yeah, it’s nothing.” Finnick was all the more nonchalant about it.

Upon seeing that the two of them seemed to have settled in just fine, Benedict took his leave from them.

“Alright, I’ve driven your things here, so there’s nothing much I can do further. You two unpack yourselves, okay? I’ll be leaving, then.”

He was the president of a listed company, after all, so it was already an honor that he had lowered himself as a driver and helped them with moving house. Now, he had to go to the office to handle business.

Argh! I even feel as though I can already see a mountain of documents beckoning me!

“Okay. Drive safely, Ben.” Finnick inclined his head at Benedict and looked on as he left.

“No matter what you did in the past, I hope you’ll do your job well,” Benedict said to Noah, who had come out to see him off.

Actually, Finnick froze for a moment when he was just about to ask Noah to see Benedict off earlier and said nothing in the end.

But perhaps Noah was aware of Finnick’s intentions, for he came out to see Benedict off anyway.

That had Benedict sensing that something was amiss since Finnick had Noah helping him in everything in the past.

Now, however, he didn’t even want to ask him to see a guest out. From that, Benedict reckoned that Noah must have done something so atrocious that he had lost trust in him.

“I will, Mr. Morrison.” Noah wasn’t at all surprised that Benedict could guess that something was off. After all, he had been in the corporate world for many years, and his company wouldn’t have attained its scale today if he couldn’t even perceive this much.

After saying that, Benedict spun around and left.

“Go and unpack in your own room, little pumpkin,” Vivian ordered Larry to unpack himself when she saw the huge pile of things.

On the one hand, it would be good practice for him, and on the other, it would mean less work for her.

“I want to sleep with you and Daddy, Mommy!” A sliver of displeasure slithered into Larry when Vivian told him to sleep in a room by himself.

“No way!” Finnick wanted to enjoy time alone with Vivian, so if Larry were to sleep with them, there would be no hope for pleasurable days ahead.

“But why?” Larry inquired in bafflement as he stared at Finnick, whose reaction had been overly vehement.

“Because you’ve now grown up, so people will laugh at you if you still sleep with your parents.” Finnick earnestly fabricated an excuse.

Aware of the true reason behind Finnick’s objection, Vivian burst into giggles.

At that, Finnick shot her a fierce glare.

Feeling that she should say something or risk Finnick punishing her later, Vivian asserted, “You’ll have your own room, but you can also sleep with us when you feel like doing so.”

“Okay, I’ll listen to you both!” Larry conceded as he felt that they made sense.

“That’s a good boy!” Finnick then winked at Vivian when Larry agreed to sleep in a room by himself, seeming to say: Honey, look! Aren’t I incredible?

As Vivian stared at his flirtatious look, she rolled her eyes at him before leaving to unpack in their room.

She looked around as she walked. This place is still the same as before I left; nothing has changed. Even the shoes I’d worn five years ago are still there on the shoe rack!

When she arrived at the room, she opened the closet, only to see that everything was still the same with nothing out of place – half was Finnick’s clothes, and the other half was hers.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 785

Back then, she left without taking anything with her. Hence, all her clothes were still lying intact in the wardrobe.

Nevertheless, after so many years, she had slimmed down too much and those clothes didn’t fit anymore. Vivian took out the clothes and put them in a box, preparing to throw them away.

After all, five years had passed and she couldn’t really wear them anymore. And even if she could, those were some uninteresting old outfits that Vivian no longer wanted to wear.

Her current lifestyle was to dress well, eat well, and never let herself be deprived of what she deserved.

While she was still packing the old clothes, she heard the phone ringing downstairs.

Finnick had already picked it up when Vivian got downstairs. However, Finnick’s expression turned increasingly somber as he stayed on the phone. Eventually, he uttered, “Alright, I’ll be there right away.”

With that, he hung up the phone and turned to Vivian. “Evelyn has disappeared.”

That piece of news gave Vivian a severe shock. Shouldn’t Evelyn be in the hospital? How did she just disappear all of a sudden?

Vivian couldn’t get her head around it. She purposely asked the nurse to keep watch on Evelyn when she was leaving the hospital. How did it turn out this way?

“Let’s go to the hospital and take a look.” Though bewildered, Vivian quickly came to understand that one had to be painstaking in order to keep someone properly guarded.

She could only blame herself for not taking enough precautions to prevent this from happening and not put the blame on others.

“Alright.” Finnick took Larry in his arms and left for the hospital with Vivian.

“Daddy, who went missing?” From their conversations earlier, Larry knew that someone had gone missing.

But he had no idea who it was.

“It’s a bad person.” Vivian didn’t answer and waited for Finnick to respond.

However, she didn’t expect Finnick to be so straightforward and referred to Evelyn as a bad person directly.

“Mmm… Then, would she be like me and was just staging an act of being kidnapped?” Larry suddenly thought about the kidnapping which he had faked previously.

He was curious and wanted to know if this current incident was a sham plotted by the bad person to ask them for money.

“There is no reason for her to do that.” Finnick gave a thought about what Larry said and didn’t think that Evelyn would have any reason to do so.

Evelyn had completely no advantage in putting on an act as such. Hence, the reason she had vanished was most probably to escape from this place and then make a comeback.

To win Finnick’s heart again.

That was what Vivian thought.

Women knew women best. Vivian was of the opinion that Evelyn would never give up on Finnick so easily.

“Then why did she leave?” Hearing that the idea he gave was not possible, Larry tried to inquire further in another way.

“Little pumpkin, listen. This is a matter among the adults, and as a kid, you should stay away and not ask too much about it, alright?” Vivian stroked his hair gently. She didn’t want Larry to know too much about this matter which concerned Evelyn.

After all, it was not something worth mentioning but a long-standing grudge.

There was nothing beneficial to Larry from knowing it. Hence, it was best to keep it to themselves and not reveal it to Larry.

“I’m not a kid. I can help share Mommy and Daddy’s burden as well.” Hearing Vivian’s response, Larry countered in a pout.

Larry thought that he was far more sensible than his peers of the same age and was capable enough to help his parents.

Nevertheless, Finnick and Vivian always claimed that he was too young to know all these matters which were better concealed from him.

That made Larry dislike his age sometimes. He felt that it was his age that brought about a lot of obstacles in many of the things he encountered.

“Little pumpkin, sometimes, it’s not that we want to keep things away from you, but it’s because these matters are not worth mentioning. Do you understand?” Seeing that Larry was rather downhearted, Finnick tried to make him feel better.

In fact, it was partly because of Larry’s age that Finnick was reluctant to fill him in, but it was also because these matters weren’t worthwhile to mention at all.

“Yes, I understand now,” Seeing that Finnick was explaining it to him so earnestly, there was nothing that he could refute anymore, so he answered meekly.

Finnick was relieved to find that Larry was so mature and thoughtful.

Sitting next to Finnick, Vivian was still wondering where Evelyn went after leaving.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 786

Thinking of that, Vivian made a call to Noah and asked him to check Evelyn’s bank account.

If Evelyn had indeed escaped from the hospital, she would definitely withdraw money from the bank. That was one way to know Evelyn’s location and actions.

“If Evelyn didn’t withdraw money, then just ze her bank accounts,” Vivian ordered Noah before ending the call.

Vivian knew that Evelyn had no money at all, so they could get ready and wait for her to show up.

With Evelyn’s current stamina and strength, she would surely go to the nearest bank. In that way, Noah would be able to find her.

After everything was done, Vivian was very pleased that she had found her wits again.

However, almost immediately, she thought about the possibility that Evelyn had already withdrawn money. If that’s the case, what should I do?

At the thought of that, Vivian asked Finnick to drive faster so that they could reach the hospital sooner to see what had happened.

Most importantly, she wanted to see if Evelyn had left any clue which could be useful.

Very soon, they arrived at the hospital, and Vivian carried Larry off the car. Larry then followed her and Finnick closely.

“Mommy, are we coming to the hospital to look for someone?” Larry knew that it was the hospital as he had seen the signage at the entrance.

“That’s right,” answered Vivian, who suddenly paused in front of the entrance of the hospital.

Finnick knew the reason Vivian froze on the spot, but Larry was puzzled.

“Mommy, why aren’t you going in?” Larry took Vivian’s hand and wanted to get in quickly to catch the bad person.

“Alright, let’s get in.” Looking at Larry and Finnick, Vivian felt that she had nothing to worry about.

Hence, she strode forward.

“Vivian, stop right there!”

To get to Evelyn’s ward, they had to pass by Rachel’s ward. Unfortunately, Rachel saw her when they walked by her ward.

Rachel shouted at Vivian to stop her.

“Is there anything you need?” Vivian was going to ignore Rachel initially. However, at the sight of Rachel almost falling from her bed owing to her own aggressiveness, Vivian changed her mind and relented.

She walked over and asked Rachel the reason she called out at her.

Finnick felt that there was something wrong with Rachel, so he walked to Vivian’s side and kept her guarded, just in case Rachel harmed her.

“You’ve found your happiness now; why do you have to force Evelyn away?” Rachel was aware that her daughter went missing, but she didn’t know the reason behind it.

She subconsciously assumed that it was Vivian who had driven her biological daughter away

“And you. Why are you still with this vicious woman? You should leave her as soon as possible.”

Rachel was about to berate Vivian but was blocked by Finnick, who had stood in between the two women.

It was only at that moment did Rachel realize the person, who was standing in front of her, was the man whom her daughter loved so dearly and wholeheartedly.

“Take Larry out of here.” Seeing as Noah had come, Finnick asked him to bring Larry elsewhere as he didn’t want Larry to see this.

“Let’s go, Mr. Larry.” Upon hearing Finnick’s order, Noah hurriedly took Larry out of the ward.

It was the first time Finnick had given him a task since he had betrayed him. Hence, Noah was delighted because he knew that Finnick had forgiven him.

“Noah, why doesn’t Daddy allow me to be in the ward?” After being brought out by Noah, Larry asked him rather dejectedly.

“Mr. Norton doesn’t want you to be bothered because it would be very noisy in the ward later,” Noah could only answer Larry in this way as he didn’t know what to say otherwise.

Also, Noah was able to foresee what was about to happen in the ward, so the excuse he had given wasn’t really a deception to Larry either.

Not long after that, the sound of something smashing on the ground came from within the ward.

It was Rachel throwing some stuff at Vivian, but it didn’t hit her as she managed to dodge it, and it fell to the ground.

“Vivian Morrison, I hate you. It’s because of you I lost my only daughter. It’s all because of you that my life became such a mess.” Rachel was on the brink of madness and said some pretty terrible things.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 787

Vivian let it ride. Yet, she couldn’t help but frown when she took a gander at Rachel, who had accidentally fallen from the bed as she was trying to hit her.

“Send her to the nursing home instead. Don’t let her be in the hospital anymore,” Vivian said to Finnick and also asked for his opinion at the same time.

Certainly, Finnick agreed to it. Rachel hurt Vivian even though she had also raised Vivian. That said, Vivian no longer owed her anything as she had paid her off for raising her.

Hence, Finnick wouldn’t tolerate Rachel’s way of treating Vivian anymore.

Leaving the ward together with Vivian, Finnick saw Larry and Noah, who were waiting outside.

“Mr. Norton, Mrs. Norton, I’ve checked. Evelyn had made a full withdrawal from her bank account before we discovered that she went missing,” Noah told them about the findings of his investigation.

Even though it was a task given by Vivian, he gave his all in completing it and reported it to both Finnick and Vivian.

“Well, in that case, let’s check if there are any trails left by her in the ward.” Noah’s account of the matter was expected by Vivian as well.

Evelyn’s success in running away indicated that she had borne this idea for a long time in her mind.

It was reasonable that her plan was perfectly concealed from others since it might have been plotted long ago, but Vivian didn’t believe that an immaculate plan could exist.

Therefore, she was determined to go to the ward to have a look.

“Alright, let’s go then.” Finnick agreed to Vivian’s idea to go to the ward because, in the event that they could get any clue from her ward, it would also be helpful to their search for Evelyn.

Taking Vivian’s hand in his, Finnick reached the door of the ward. The ward wasn’t any different from how it used to look usually, but there was one exception—a few words were carved on the door.

Leaning closer to it, Vivian saw what they read: I’ll be back!

Looking at the few words made, Vivian wondered how much strength was needed for one to carve these words on the door so deeply.

“There seems to be nothing suspicious in the ward except for the words in this corner.” Vivian circled and checked all the corners of the ward. It was clean and tidy.

In any case, Evelyn was brought up in a decent environment. Hence, it was also reasonable for her to tidy up and clean the ward before she left.

Nonetheless, what was unknown to Vivian was that the nurse had already cleaned the room after Evelyn left, which was why the ward was spick and span.

Thus, it wasn’t surprising that Vivian couldn’t find anything in the ward. However, out of the blue, something occurred to Vivian.

Earlier on, because she was afraid that Evelyn might be scheming something in the ward, she had installed a surveillance camera in Evelyn’s ward.

Never would she have thought that the surveillance camera would come in handy to her one day.

It looks like I’m fairly foresighted.

“Quick, get the surveillance camera down from the door. Let me take a look.” Vivian instructed Noah to take down the camera so that she could check what happened.

Back then, in order to keep it away from being discovered by Evelyn, Vivian had specifically installed a pinhole camera. Hence, they had to take it down to see what was being captured.

“Yes, Mrs. Norton,” Noah replied and stepped on a stool, preparing to remove it from above the door.

“When did you install a camera here? How come I was totally clueless?” Finnick was astonished. When did Vivian even install this thing here?

As far as Finnick was concerned, he had escorted Vivian every time she came to the hospital. But never had he seen her fixing the camera in this ward.

“Well, it was after our divorce,” Vivian looked at Finnick and replied to him thoughtfully.

That means, this camera was fixed after we got a divorce. Thus, I’m not required to tell you about it.

Hering Vivian’s answers, Finnick thought what she said was true, so he didn’t ask further.

Noah was swift, and while they were talking, he had already removed the camera and took it down.

Vivian went to borrow a laptop from the nurse and checked what Evelyn had been doing in the ward.

After watching the footage, they found out that the words carved on the door were indeed Evelyn’s own works.

Furthermore, when she was whittling on the door, she wore a monstrous expression on her face, as though she was going to kill someone. But immediately after that, an ineffably gentle expression crept on her face, and it made Vivian felt as though spring had come all of a sudden.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 788

Vivian knew all too well that it was only when Evelyn was thinking about Finnick would such an expression appear on her face.

Therefore, Vivian turned to Finnick and shot him a glare.

Not knowing how to react, Finnick rubbed his nose as an indication that it had nothing to do with him.

Vivian fast-forwarded the recorded clip and saw Evelyn taking a piece of cloth in her hand, tearing up alone, and seemed to be yelling something.

However, none of them could lip read.

Nevertheless, judging from her intense emotions, Vivian reckoned that Evelyn must have been berating her then.

Seeing that, Finnick felt even more awkward, but Vivian didn’t say anything, nor did she blame him.

“Look, this was what happened on the day that Evelyn ran away.” Vivian pointed at the laptop screen and asked them to take a closer look.

All they saw from the screen was Evelyn escaping from the ward as soon as she woke up early that morning. Even before the saline bottle attached to the back of her hand was emptied, she pulled the needle off and ran out of the ward.

“Well, we can’t really find Evelyn anymore now,” Disheartened, Vivian looked at Finnick and said.

Initially, she thought she had found some trails that would be able to trace Evelyn and find her back.

But then realization dawned on her that they ended up with nothing meaningful. What are we going to do now?

Vivian wasn’t afraid of Evelyn, but once Evelyn got outside, she would cause them more trouble, and their life would be greatly affected.

Vivian didn’t want that. All she ever wanted was to lead a peaceful and happy life.

And that wish seemed a little difficult to be fulfilled at the moment.

The only way out for Vivian was to look for Evelyn and keep her at a place where she could see and manage.

“Let’s go and check the surveillance camera on the road and see where she went.” Finnick also knew very well the significance of Evelyn’s escape.

Hence, he was of the opinion that they should go looking for her immediately since she hadn’t left for too long.

They were left with the option of checking the surveillance cameras on the roadside in hopes of finding the routes that Evelyn had taken.

“Alright,” Vivian answered after she turned to look at Larry, who had been watching them from the side, and then to Noah.

“Noah, you take Larry home with you first. I’ll check the surveillance cameras with Finnick.” Vivian didn’t want Larry to follow them rushing about anymore, so she could only ask Noah to take him home.

“Mommy, is that person very hard to find? Why is Mommy looking so troubled? I’m not leaving with Noah. I want to be with Mommy.”

To Larry’s understanding, searching for someone was a very simple task. One just had to look around oneself.

However, as he saw the helpless and deeply concerned faces of his parents, Larry couldn’t understand why they looked so lost, so he wanted to stay and help them look for the missing person.

“Little pumpkin, listen. Mommy has one piece of clothing missing at home which I can’t seem to find. Why don’t you help me look for it?” Vivian had to tell a white lie in order to make Larry leave.

“Okay.” Hearing that he could actually be of help to his mommy, Larry was uplifted in an instant.

He couldn’t wait to go back home with Noah and help Vivian look for her missing clothes.

Noah took a glance at Finnick and was waiting to see if he would give him any instructions.

Nevertheless, after a long while, Finnick didn’t respond. It was only when Noah turned around, preparing to leave, that he heard an utterance from Finnick. “Take care of Larry.”

That cheered Noah up, and he quickly agreed.

Seeing as Noah left together with Larry, Vivian and Finnick went to the nearest police station to check the footage of surveillance cameras on each of the streets.

It was fortunate that they found out the time when Evelyn left the hospital. Hence, with that detail in hand, they only needed to target the image and appearance of Evelyn in the footage.

Time passed with every tick of the clock, but there was no sign of Evelyn at all in such a big city.

When Vivian and Finnick were about to give up, out of the blue, a white shadow appeared across their sight.

“Quick, look at that!” Seeing as such, Vivian was so excited that her eyes were fixated on the screen, unable to turn away.

That figure on the screen was none other than Evelyn. Nonetheless, judging from where she was heading, there could only be one possible destination—the airport.

It seemed like Evelyn was planning to flee her home country just to avoid Vivian.

Thinking of that, Vivian couldn’t help but lament how silly Evelyn was.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 789

If Evelyn had just stayed in the hospital submissively and not caused any other troubles, Vivian might have just let her go considering that her birth mother had raised her up and that she was her husband’s first love.

However, Evelyn resorted to fleeing and continued to go against her.

Don’t blame me for being unmerciful, Evelyn. Judging from the current situation, no matter how she fights back, I will eventually win. Evelyn has nothing left. What can she come up against me with?

At the thought of that, Vivian felt that it didn’t matter anymore.

Even if they went to the airport now, Evelyn might have already boarded the plane, and it would be a waste of time to head there.

So why not just go home and take a good rest instead? We can just wait for Evelyn’s comeback.

Thinking about that, Vivian was no longer so persistent on finding Evelyn and keeping her under surveillance. She took Finnick’s hand and walked to the car.

“Vivian, you must be very tired. Why don’t you sleep for a while? I’ll wake you up when we reach.” Finnick knew how worn out Vivian was.

Hence, he asked Vivian to take a nap on their journey home, and he would wake her when they reached.

However, Finnick obviously had no idea about the fact that Vivian could no longer sleep outside after their divorce.

Only when she was lying on the bed at home could she fall asleep.

Sleeping outside would always arouse a feeling of emptiness and insecurity within her. Hence, she refused to sleep in the car.

“That’s okay. I’ll sleep when we arrive home.” Vivian didn’t want Finnick to know that she wasn’t able to fall asleep outside.

He’s equally exhausted today. Therefore, Vivian didn’t want Finnick to get worked up because of her.

“Alright.” Seeing that Vivian refused to sleep, Finnick didn’t insist either. He chatted with Vivian all the way so that it wouldn’t be too boring.

However, after talking for some time, he sensed that Vivian appeared very distracted all the while, so he started comforting her.

“Don’t dwell on it. Wherever Evelyn goes, I’ll be sure to capture her and bring her back. She won’t get anywhere,” said Finnick.

“I will make her pay for it,” Finnick added.

The reason he said that was because they used to have a harmonious and pleasant life together, but all that had turned into the current adverse situation due to Evelyn. That infuriated Finnick.

Nonetheless, regardless of how exasperated he got, Finnick refrained from showing his incensed emotion to avoid influencing Vivian with it. He didn’t want Vivian to be as irate.

Being angry had negative health effects. The reason he had been so composed all day long was so that Vivian would not be enraged because of his emotion.

Seeing how dejected Vivian was at that instant, Finnick had said that in an attempt to enliven her.

To his surprise, the effect was low to non-existent. Vivian only gruffly acknowledged without saying anything else.

Just as Finnick thought Vivian wouldn’t give any further responses, her gentle voice came from beside him. “I know that you will.”

And unwittingly, Vivian dozed off after that.

Half-smiling, Finnick floored on the gas pedal and sped off.

When they finally reached home, Larry was already soundly asleep, but Vivian had woken up.

Even Vivian herself couldn’t believe that she had fallen asleep in the car.

It was unprecedented. Even during that night in Coast Haven, she couldn’t sleep well.

Never did she expect herself to be so soundly asleep in Finnick’s car.

To Vivian, it was rather unbelievable.

“Vivian, take a nap upstairs.” Staring into her dopey eyes, Finnick felt that Vivian, who looked groggy, was enchanting.

“Hmm? Let me wash up first.” With that, she walked toward the bathroom giddily, and after washing up for a bit, she lay on the bed.

After a long day of running around, Vivian didn’t feel like saying anything else, so she went to bed directly and fell asleep soon after that.

When Finnick, too, finished taking his shower and went into the room, he saw Vivian sprawled on the bed.

Smiling affectionately, Finnick shifted Vivian gently into his embrace and fell asleep with a sweet smile.

While both Finnick and Vivian were serenely asleep, Evelyn, on the other hand, was at a restaurant in the airport. It seemed like she was eating as she was gobbling something up.

It was as though she had not eaten anything for a long time. The way she chomped on the food looked like she was starved for many days.

As a matter of fact, she wasn’t denied any meal on any day. It was she herself who was on a hunger strike.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 790

“Vivian, just you wait. I’ll come back for you. We’re not done yet, and we’ll see who will laugh till the end,” Evelyn murmured to herself between bites.

It sounded like she was a sworn enemy with Vivian.

After finished eating, Evelyn was occupied with another scheme against Vivian in her mind as she wheeled herself into a deserted and narrow alley unwittingly.

Just as she was about to make a turn and come out of the alley, she heard the voices of a few men.

Their voices were filled with obscenity and lechery, which disgusted Evelyn. Those voices sounded far worse compared to that of Finnick.

That was what Evelyn was thinking.

But almost immediately, Evelyn became aware of the circumstances she was facing.

Right in that instant, she was all alone in a deserted and narrow alley with several strong men standing in her way. They had come after her money or her body.

Either way, Evelyn would have no escape.

The money she brought with her was to be used on her plane ticket, so she couldn’t let them rob her. Meanwhile, Finnick was the only person she would ever allow to lay his hands on her body. How can I let these filthy men touch me?

Those thoughts sent a shiver down Evelyn’s spine. At that juncture, she was just like a helpless princess waiting for her prince charming to rescue her.

The only prince charming who appeared in her mind, however, was Finnick. Therefore, her wishful thinking would never be granted.

The only thing that might actually eventuate was the deep fear within her of the consequence she would most probably face.

The three burly men approached Evelyn, and as they did, they were rubbing their hands as if they were ready for something great.

The fat on their faces was squashed into a lump, looking like an old sow had stood on their face. That was how hideous these men looked.

Nonetheless, Evelyn was in no mood to joke at the unsightly impression these men gave her. A sense of horror crept over her slowly.

“No, please don’t.” Evelyn knew that they were after her body in that instant, and she started wheeling herself in reverse.

Perhaps if she was farther away from them, she would feel safer.

Unfortunately, that was nothing but merely her illusion.

The more afraid Evelyn grew, the more sense of conquest these men tended to feel.

Their eyes fixated on the petite figure who was retreating hurriedly. Sweat droplets slid down her face in a beautiful and perfect curve.

The three men gulped subconsciously at that.

They had come out to grab a drink as they were sleepless that night. Never did they expect to come across such beauty on their way.

Not only did her face look awfully stunning, but her hourglass figure was also marvelously gorgeous. They couldn’t help but fantasize about the indulgence of pinning her beneath them and pressed on her body, forcing her into submission.

As they thought about it, they could feel their trousers getting tighter. That made the three of them even more desperate.

Concurrently, the helpless and vulnerable expression on Evelyn’s face aroused an even more unscrupulous feeling within them.

The men let loose of their lechery for the entire night, and it lasted until the next morning. When Evelyn woke up, traces and marks of what happened the night before were left on her body.

“Mmm.” Evelyn tried to move but immediately, a sharp, tearing pain came from her groin.

Looking at the clothes on her, a huge wave of mortification threatened to engulf her. What happened the night before replayed in her mind as she started recalling.

“Young lady, you can only blame yourself for loitering around in the middle of the night. For the sake that you were still a virgin, we’ll leave you with some money to buy yourself some clothes to wear. As with the rest, we’ll take it away.”

Listening to what they said, Evelyn fainted on the ground, and it was only until a short while ago did she regain consciousness.

She glanced around at the cash on the floor. It’s only two to three thousand. She had initially brought up to ten thousand with her and was only left with several thousand then.

All of a sudden, Evelyn was at a loss for what to do. She felt as though she was a stray dog, stripped of everything, and couldn’t even find the way home.

Even the most important thing that she held most dear to her heart was lost last night.

Evelyn was drained of hope to continue her life, but when she thought about Finnick, she forced herself to stay strong. She held onto the wall as she crawled with much difficulty against it, slowly approaching the wheelchair, which had been thrown aside. Until the moment she sat on it, she was still having a wonderful dream from the bottom of her heart.

She was thinking that Finnick would definitely forgive her and avenge her.

At the thought of that, Evelyn regained her composure and wheeled herself to the roadside. Seeing as the street vendor wasn’t paying attention, she stole a few pieces of elderly clothing and went to the airport.

Taking the plane ticket which she had bought in her hand, she was waiting to board the plane.
