Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1181
Han Muzi felt hopeless. On the contrary, Yan felt very awkward as she did not expect things to unfold that way. With Ye Moxuan’s presence in the room already making her feel suffocated, the addition of Han Qing made her feel like she could not breathe at all.
Han Muzi quickly spoke, “Let’s have a discussion. Get out, you two.”
Both Ye Moxuan and Han Qing kept quiet. After a while, Han Qing questioned, “What’s wrong?”
When they made eye contact, Yan quickly moved her gaze away and pretended like she did not see him. Han Muzi answered, “We would like to have a conversation. You two can talk outside. Is that a problem?”
“Yes,” Ye Moxuan refused right away. His gaze fell squarely on Han Muzi like he was not tired at all. “I have to keep an eye on you.”
Since she was going to give birth in the next two days, the doctor had urged family members to watch her at all times in case anything happened. All this while, Ye Moxuan had kept a close eye on her, so he was definitely not going to relax in those last two days.
As Yan listened, she had a feeling that Ye Moxuan was not going to leave. He is probably going to stay glued to Han Muzi until after she gives birth. Yan probed, “Why don’t I just come back again tomorrow?”
Han Muzi looked at her bitterly, which made her uneasy for a moment. I want to stay with Muzi for a bit longer too. If Ye Moxuan wasn’t here, I could stay here all night. I’m close with Muzi, but I still feel unfamiliar with Young Master Ye.
When Yan was about to say something, Han Qing spoke first, “Actually, you don’t have to keep such a close watch on Muzi. Giving birth to a child is not that terrifying. Aren’t there two days left? You can watch her on the day she gives birth.”
Ye Moxuan chuckled. He did not agree with that suggestion at all. “Come and discuss this with me again the day you’re able to stay this calm knowing that your wife is about to give birth.”
With that, he shut Han Qing up. Yan was also silent.
Feeling slightly desperate, Han Muzi said, “Fine. You guys can go back for now.”
Yan stood up instantly. “Okay, then. I’ll be off then. I’ll come back to see you again in two days.”
“Can you at least act like you don’t want to leave? You were so eager to leave as soon as I said it. Our friendship is broken now!” Han Muzi declared as she looked at Yan with hurt feelings.
“Alright! We’ll leave it broken for the next two days then make up again after you give birth.” Yan smiled cheerfully as she tapped on Han Muzi’s cheeks. “I’ll come see you on the day you give birth.”
With that, Yan and Han Qing left together. Once the two of them departed from the villa, Yan finally let out a sigh of relief. Looking at Han Qing’s expression, she was slightly hesitant to speak. Alas, she let out, “Young Master Ye is keeping too close of a watch on Muzi. I couldn’t even relax when I was in there.”
“It’s not the first time he’s becoming a father, but it is his first time experiencing the whole process, so it’s quite normal,” Han Qing answered.
“Is this normal?” She was slightly perplexed. “Are all men like this when they’re about to become a father or experience the birthing process for the first time?”
He hesitated then pursed his lips a moment later. “Are you asking me?”
Uh…
“In theory, around 80% of men are like this. But I don’t know whether I fall in that 80% category or the other 20%. If you want to know, we can try.”
“Try?” she asked automatically. Only then did she realize what he meant. Her fair face immediately became bright red as she looked at him for a long while, then blurted, “Rascal!” He’s making fun of me!
Han Qing guessed she would overreact that way. The smile on his face widened and even his dark eyes filled with warmth. “How am I being a rascal? Aren’t you the one who’s asking? I just gave you a practical answer.”
Nonsense! What practical answer? He’s obviously making fun of me! She was all fired up, but a part of her thought it was rather sweet. Does this mean that he wants to be with me for a very long time? Has he thought of marrying me and having children together? For some reason, her face got redder and her ears got hotter the more she thought about it. She quickly winded down the car window to let some air in.
“Hot?” Han Qing was still unaware as he asked, “Do you want to turn the air-conditioning on?”
“No, thank you.” Can he be a bit more intuitive? Seriously! This is too much! She was scolding him furiously in her mind, but on the surface, she was too scared to even make a sound.
A while later, they arrived at a traffic light and the car came to a stop. The atmosphere inside the car was slightly awkward. Yan kept looking out the window in silence. He slowly looked over at her and saw her pouting as she leaned against the window. She looked like she did not want to speak to him at all.
He wanted to probe her badly. “Who was the one who texted me and asked me to come over?”
She paused for a second then stole a glance at Han Qing, only to find that he was staring at her.
“Now that I’m here, are you going to ignore me?”
“H-How am I ignoring you? Aren’t you driving now? I just don’t want to distract you.”
“It’s red now,” he reminded her.
She nodded. “I know.” It doesn’t take long before it changes to green.
“There’s 25 seconds left,” he added.
“What can you do in 25 seconds?” She looked at Han Qing with a blank look on her face. She had no idea why he suddenly reminded her of the countdown. When she looked up and met his eyes, she saw a trace of playfulness and a few other emotions in his expression. She did not know why, but her face unexpectedly turned red again. “D-Don’t think about it!”
“Huh?”
“Even if you want to do it at the red light, it’s too dangerous, so don’t!”
His eyes narrowed. “It?” He was slightly lost. A moment later, he thought of what she possibly meant by ‘it’, and smiled broadly. “You said you didn’t want to distract me while I was driving. I reminded you that there was 25 seconds left, so you could talk to me. How did it come off as me wanting to do that? Unless… you’re saying that’s what you want?” At the last remark, he intentionally spoke slower and changed his tone. The atmosphere inside the car quickly changed.
However, she froze and stared at him blankly. Did I just shoot myself in the foot?
“Hm. Looks like that’s really what you want, but it’s not convenient right now. We’ll see if we get a chance later.”
The red light was about to change soon. While he got ready to start driving, Yan started to explain in a hurry from being misunderstood, “Who says that’s what I want? I didn’t think of that. You obviously misled me. Why is everything being pushed onto me now?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1182
While she was giving her explanation in a rush, she did not notice that Han Qing’s car had gone in a different direction. They were supposed to be on the main road, but they were now driving on a smaller road. However, she only noticed when the car came to a full stop.
“W-Where is this place?” As Yan asked, she turned around and took in the view outside. She wanted to take a step further and stick her head out the car window.
When her head was only halfway out, however, Han Qing held her wrist and used his other hand to pull her head back in. “Don’t stick your head out of car windows like that. It’s dangerous.”
In an instant, her head was pulled back inside and the car window slowly went back up, quickly sealing the space they were in. Feeling doubtful, she turned to look at him. “I won’t stick my head out if you don’t want me to, but why did you close the window…” She started to stammer halfway through as she saw the longing in his eyes grow more intense.
“W-What is it?” Her body must have reacted before she did as her hands stuck out against his chest to stop him from getting close to her. She finally reacted. Did he drive us here on purpose? Did he intentionally change directions to stop here?
When Yan realized that, her heart started to race incredibly fast. Is he going to kiss me again? Her mind was running wild. The man in front of her was already leaning toward her. She retracted a few inches while using her hands to block his chest. “What the heck? It’s daytime now and we’re outside.” Even though we can stop the car here, people and cars will still pass by. How can we…
In contrast, Han Qing was not in a rush. He looked at her dark red lips and said in a low voice, “Did you know that I dropped all my work and went to you today just because of your message?”
She was taken aback as she did not think he would bring that up out of the blue. Still, she felt wronged and uneasy. “I-I merely asked you. I didn’t think you would actually come. Plus, if you were busy at work, you could have said no to me.” As she reached the end of her sentence, her breathing became unstable. Because of that, the strength she was using to push against him weakened, and he used that chance to lean even closer to her.
“How can I say no to my girlfriend?”
“Even so. If you feel like the request is irrational, you can always refuse.” Yan was so nervous that she broke into a cold sweat. The more he talked, the closer he leaned into her. She did not have the strength to push against him anymore.
Then, she heard his low mocking voice. “What if I don’t want to refuse?”
That low mocking voice was incredibly attractive to her. It penetrated right into her heart and enveloped it. She froze in her spot as she watched that handsome face in front of her get bigger and bigger.
The familiar breath pulled her in closer. Right before they kissed, she heard him say in his low voice, “Since I’m already here, I’m going to have to ask for some compensation.”
Before she could reply to him, he kissed her. Throughout the whole thing, Yan did not move on her own. After all, it was daytime and they were outside, so she was incredibly anxious. She did not dare to do anything else and just followed his lead. Halfway through, due to her nerves, she accidentally scratched his neck. Upon hearing him wince, she quickly let go.
“Do you have to hurt me at least once every time to be satisfied? What sort of peculiar fetish is that?”
“I didn’t do it on purpose…” After she was kissed, her eyes were dazzling. She looked adorable and especially delicate.
At that moment, he could not help himself and leaned in again. They did not know how much time had passed. Yan had also lost sense of where she was. She just knew that her hands were forcefully pulled by Han Qing so that they were around his waist and she was holding onto him. Then, he continued to kiss her.
Much later, she had fallen into a daze. Then, he started the car and left the place. When they arrived at the building of the Han Group, she finally had a sense of how much time had passed. What the f*ck?
She remained silent as she pressed herself into the seat and pretended she was dead. Just let me die quietly. Don’t come and look for me.
Just then, Han Qing opened her door. “Come out.”
Yan stayed in her seat and did not want to move. She just wanted to turn into a hamster and not go anywhere. Knowing that she was embarrassed, he smiled and tried to convince her, “Hurry. I still have some things to deal with later.”
Only at the mention of his work did she lift her head lazily and ask in a small voice, “What things? Is it work?”
“Mm.”
“You can go in by yourself. I’ll just wait for you here.” After she was kissed for so long by the side of the road, she felt like she needed to calm down for a bit and was unable to go in with him. She readjusted herself then continued to pretend she was dead.
When he saw that she was adamant about not moving, he bent down and stuck half of his body in the car to unbuckle her seatbelt then lift her in his arms.
“Ah!” she exclaimed. Both of her hands instinctively wrapped around his neck. “Let me down.”
“Didn’t you want me to carry you since you don’t feel like walking?” He held her tightly, then bent down a bit to indicate to her to close the car door.
She was about to cry. When did I ever want him to carry me? I really wanted to pretend to be dead in the car, okay? Also, letting him carry me into the company? What a joke. What kind of person will that make me?
Upon closing the car door, she immediately requested him to put her down. Han Qing was tall, while Yan was on the shorter side. In addition, she was thin, so she was smaller in frame overall. To him, carrying her did not strain him at all, so he did not see a problem with carrying her upstairs.
However, she felt out of place. At the moment, there is no one around because we’re in the parking lot. But when we get in the elevator later, what if we bump into someone we know? How will I meet people again in the future?
Nevertheless, her worst nightmare came true. Before they entered the elevator, they were met with Secretary Su who was coming out of it, along with a group of executives from the Han Group.
The whole elevator of people looked at the usually serious President Han carrying a young woman in his arms in front of them. She was squirming in his embrace but he had no intention of putting her down. Yan was silent and so was the group of executives.
Su Jiu’s eyebrows shot up, and she could not help but smile. When she met Yan’s eyes, she even winked a few times at her. To Yan, that scene felt like a bolt from the blue. Without waiting for Han Qing to respond, she quickly struggled to get out of his embrace then hid behind him; she was too afraid to meet anyone.
Han Qing smiled, then his expression went back to normal. “Not coming out? How long do you want to stand in there for?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1183
The upper management staff were shaken by his words and fought to get out of the elevator while the doors began to close. All of a sudden, one of them ran into the closing doors and yelled while taking a step, only to step on someone else’s foot and cause that person to scream. In the end, after some pushing and tugging, everyone managed to get out of the elevator.
As for Su Jiu, she had found a way out through the crowd. She looked at the men behind her pushing at each other and let out a dismissive look. Fortunately, I got out earlier. Otherwise, I would’ve been squeezed by them.
After the group of upper management staff had come out of the elevator, Han Qing held the hand of the lady behind him expressionlessly and took her into the elevator. As she was pulled into the elevator, Yan was too embarrassed to look at anyone. She finally let out a sigh of relief after the doors of the elevator had closed.
Meanwhile, the upper management staff who witnessed that began to gossip.
“Who’s that lady? Is she President Han’s girlfriend?”
“There’s no way; she looks so young. Also, isn’t President Han always unwilling to date anyone? Why would he quietly do this all of a sudden?”
“I’ve long heard that President Han’s been on the lookout for a date. We shouldn’t have let an outsider get him; I knew I should’ve introduced my daughter to him. Look, it’s too late now.”
“You’re right. Had I known that President Han was into younger ladies, I would’ve introduced my daughter who has just turned eighteen to him.”
The others were scornfully looking at those talking.
“Liu, are you listening to yourself? Have you ever considered your daughter’s feelings?”
“That’s right, Liu. What kind of a father are you?”
“What the f*ck? What’s wrong with that? She’s not underaged, and I don’t think you guys are any better. You guys were also thinking about introducing your daughters to President Han. It’s a known fact that he doesn’t smoke nor drink, and he’s also extremely wealthy. Who doesn’t want their daughter to marry him?”
“What a shame… By the way, who’s that lady earlier? Do any of you know her?”
Standing next to them, Su Jiu could no longer tolerate all their gossip. She interrupted, “Guys, if you’re interested in President Han’s private life, why don’t you just take the elevator up and ask him yourself?”
One of them responded, “We wouldn’t dare to do that. Secretary Su, you work closely with President Han. Do you know who that lady is? Is she from a rich family? How come none of us have seen her before?”
“That’s right. Secretary Su, how did she end up being with President Han?”
“Share with us how she did it. Perhaps we might still stand a chance in the future.”
These words rendered Su Jiu speechless. She squinted and sized them up. “Who’d have thought that this is what you guys have been up to? Before you continue dreaming about marrying your daughter off to President Han, the lady you saw earlier might just be the future Mrs. President Han.”
The crowd was stunned.
“So, what you’re doing right now is basically trying to split them up. Do you think this is acceptable?”
Being accused of that, the crowd were embarrassed. They rebutted, “Secretary Su, you can’t put it that way. By the looks of it, it seems like they’re just dating. Who can be sure that she’s going to be the future Mrs. President Han?”
“That’s right. From what I reckon, she’s just an ordinary lady. She may not be the future Mrs. President Han. Does she even know anything about the company?”
“Exactly!”
Su Jiu became agitated as she heard these words, and the smile underneath her eyes had slowly diminished. She let out a callous smile, “Are you trying to say that he should marry someone who can contribute to his career?”
“Of course! What’s the point of marrying someone who can’t be of help to your career? Do you just marry her for nothing? On the other hand, someone like you, Secretary Su, would be a better candidate. I can tell you’re capable and independent; it’d be very fortunate if President Han were to marry you.”
Su Jiu’s mouth twitched. “Sorry, I’m afraid I’m already married. Besides, let me tell you; I’m in no way helping my husband in his career. He and I have separate jobs and we work together to create a happy family. This is what matters the most. Thank you for complimenting me, though. Still, you shouldn’t get married if getting married only means that you’re getting a helper for your career.”
Her words silenced everyone.
“What? Do you disagree with me? Let me put it another way. Let’s say that one day, someone is marrying your daughter only because of her background, and that person doesn’t treat her well at all. Would you, as a father, be happy?”
The crowd remained silent.
“What do you say? See, this is how selfish we are and how often we impose double standards. Next time, before you comment on anything, please consider it from a different perspective. Another reminder: since President Han has finally found someone after all these years, no one in his or her right mind should do or say anything that’s not helpful.”
“Secretary Su, you…”
“I’ve said my piece. I have to go now.” Secretary Su decided to ignore them and walked away in her high heels.
After she left, the rest of the people glanced at each other and began throwing shade at her.
“What’s wrong with Secretary Su? Why was she so mad? Does this have anything to do with her? Didn’t we compliment her earlier?”
“Oh well, you can never understand women. It’s like my daughter who changes her mood so easily because of something that I say. Though, I’ve never thought that someone as capable as Secretary Su would react this way too.”
“Women will be women. We should try to sympathize.”
“Come to think of it, I do agree with what she said. Our President Han attracts a lot of women, but none of them worked out. This person might just be the future Mrs. President Han.”
The rest of them did not know how to respond.
After entering the elevator, Yan and Han Qing had no idea what was taking place out there. In a split second, the two arrived on the level in the building where the president’s office was.
After being held in his arms, which was witnessed by the management of the company, Yan felt herself blushing after she was finally able to stand straight. She was so embarrassed that she dared not walk too quickly when she walked out of the elevator with Han Qing.
Han Qing then asked, “Why are you walking so slowly? Do you want me to carry you?”
Yan was startled and shook her head hard, insisting, “I don’t!” Then, very quickly, she followed suit and entered the office.
What happened earlier was something that she would never want to experience again. As Han Qing needed to work, Yan decided to wait for him in his office. When it was time to go home, the two left the office together to get dinner before Han Qing sent her home.
Just like that, the day was over.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1184
In the bedroom at Seabay Villa was a dim table lamp. Han Muzi was lying in bed, half-asleep and half-conscious, feeling extremely restless and unstable. Next to her was Ye Moxuan. The moment he noticed the unusual look on her face, he immediately grabbed her by her hand and asked in a deep voice, “Are you feeling unwell?”
Afraid that he would get worried, Han Muzi decided not to tell him. After all, she was feeling only slightly unwell. She shook her head, smiling. “No. I just can’t fall asleep today…”
“Don’t be scared. I’m here.” Ye Moxuan gently pushed her hair to the back of her head. He sounded firm and steady, giving her a sense of security.
“Mm-hmm.” Han Muzi nodded and tried closing her eyes again to fall asleep. Even though she was tired and wanted to get some sleep, her stomach had not been feeling well. The feeling she had now was somewhat familiar… It was exactly how she felt the night she gave birth to Little Bean. But there were still two days before the baby was due—could it be an early delivery?
I shouldn’t scare myself like this. Han Muzi tried to calm herself down and closed her eyes. After a while, she fell asleep before she realized it. However, the discomfort she was feeling in her stomach began to increase—as if the little baby in her stomach was protesting to come out. Again, she opened her eyes just to see the nervous look on Ye Moxuan’s face. She then opened her lips slightly but was struggling to speak.
“Don’t worry, I’ve just made the phone call. Aunty’s going to be here soon.”
“Aunty?” Han Muzi suddenly recalled that Song An used to be a medical doctor and should be able to help. She then nodded her head.
Ye Moxuan worriedly wiped off the sweat on her forehead. “Is your stomach uncomfortable?”
“Yes. Just a little bit.” Han Muzi nodded, noticing that the uncomfortable feeling had become more obvious; perhaps it was really going to be a two-day early delivery. She was planning on telling Song An about it when she came.
In a split second, Song An arrived together with Old Master Yuchi, who was seen with his walking stick, looking tense. “What’s going on? Is she going to give birth?”
Song An threw an annoyed look at Yuchi Jin. “I’ve told you to not tag along but you insisted on coming with me in the middle of the night. Anyway, since you’re here, please try to minimize your voice as I won’t have any time to entertain your questions if something does happen.”
His daughter’s words did not upset him as this had already become something that he had gotten used to in the last few days. He knew well that he made a mistake back in the days, so the fact that his daughter was willing to stay by his side right now gave him no reason to be bothered by the way she talked to him. As long as he knew that his daughter still had him in her heart as her father.
“That’s fine as long as you’re taking good care of my granddaughter-in-law.
Song An was somewhat pleased with what he said, though, she did not respond. She went into Han Muzi’s room while Old Master Yuchi waited outside.
A few moments later, he was surprised when he saw that his grandson came out of the room. Then, he went up to him. “Moxuan, what’s going on? Is Muzi going to give birth soon?”
Ye Moxuan wore a deep frown on his face, and his lips pursed so tightly that they looked like a thin line. He did not respond to Old Master Yuchi while looking extremely cold and callous.
Seeing the look on his face, Yuchi Jin was amused. “Don’t worry. It’s like that when women give birth. It’ll be over once the baby is out. Don’t be nervous.”
Now, Ye Moxuan began to look even more tense. Hearing all these things that Old Master Yuchi was telling him, he reckoned that he would have told him to leave this place if he were not his grandfather. However, Yuchi Jin was an elder, and Ye Moxuan was a father himself now, so he should watch his attitude and behavior. Therefore, no matter how annoyed Ye Moxuan was, he did not tell him off.
While the two were outside the room, Ye Moxuan remained silent while he was anxiously waiting, and Old Master Yuchi seemed calm.
A while later, Song An came out of the room. “Let’s go to the hospital now. She’s probably going to have an early delivery.”
Ye Moxuan remained calm as he pursed his lips like he was about to say something. Seeing this, Song An added, “I’ll be here to take care of her while you go and get the car. Come to the nearest spot where we can get in the car.”
Hearing this, Ye Moxuan nodded. “Sure. I’ll go now.” He turned around and left right away.
Meanwhile, Old Master Yuchi stood there and groaned, “Where’s Little Bean?”
The maid standing next to him answered, “Little Young Master’s still asleep.”
“Asleep? His mother’s about to give birth; how can this little brat be asleep? Go and wake him up.”
Song An was rendered speechless by what she just heard. The maid seemed hesitant, but since the order came from Old Master Yuchi, she had no choice but to start walking toward Little Bean’s room. However, she was stopped by Song An after just two steps.
“You don’t have to go. There’s nothing much a kid or an old man like you can do there anyway. You two should just stay here tonight and not go anywhere. This will save us some trouble.”
Initially, Old Master Yuchi was afraid that waiting outside the delivery ward would bore him since Ye Moxuan would not talk to him. Besides, Ye Moxuan was probably going to be busy being worried. So, he thought of bringing Little Bean with him as they might even be able to chat with each other later while waiting. However, Song An firmly rejected his idea.
“We don’t create trouble, do we? My granddaughter-in-law is giving birth, so our entire family has to be there. Though we may not be of much help, we could still offer our moral support. That way, others can see how important my granddaughter-in-law is in the Yuchi family through the entourage that’s going to be there waiting for her to give birth.”
Song An was rendered speechless again. She felt that he had a point that she was unable to refute. Oh well…
“An, do you agree with what I said? Let’s wake Little Bean up quickly.”
The maid took a glance at Song An before she turned to look at Old Master Yuchi, seemingly looking for a confirmation.
Annoyed, Song An nodded. “Go ahead. Try calling him once and if he’s too deep in his sleep we should just forget it.”
“I’ll go and wake him up myself.” Old Master Yuchi took his walking stick and began walking.
Finally, there was a moment of silence for Song An before Ye Moxuan showed up in his car. Song An then taught him how to carry Han Muzi and place her in the back seat. After that, Ye Moxuan jumped back into the driver’s seat while Song An stayed with Han Muzi at the back. It was a nerve-wracking moment for Ye Moxuan, so it did not take long before the car disappeared from Seabay Villa.
When Old Master Yuchi had finally woken up Little Bean, who was deep in his sleep, and brought him out of the room, the place was already empty.
“Where’s everyone?!” Old Master Yuchi yelled angrily. “Couldn’t they have just waited a little longer?”
Little Bean blinked, completely clueless as to what was happening. But, it took him just a couple of minutes before he figured out what was taking place.
When Yuchi Jin was waking him up earlier, he told him that something had happened, so he had to get up right away. He did not know what it was that time, but now, seeing that his daddy and mommy were not around, he had figured it out. So, he pulled Yuchi Jin’s sleeve and whispered, “Great-Grandfather, is Mommy going to give birth soon? Time waits for no one. We can get there by ourselves.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1185
Little Bean’s words brought Old Master Yuchi to his senses. He quickly implored, “Should we go now?”
“Yes!” Nodding, Little Bean took out his phone to send a message to Song An to ask for directions before heading out of the villa with Old Master Yuchi.
It was in the middle of the night when Yan abruptly felt the vibration underneath her pillow while she was sound asleep. Is that my phone? Yan was too exhausted to bring herself to check her phone. After a while, the vibration stopped before it started again. In the end, Yan had no choice but to reach for her phone underneath her pillow and answer it. “Hello…” Her voice was feeble when she spoke, sounding muddled.
“Aunt Yan!” Little Bean’s voice came clearly from the other end of the phone, which made Yan frown subconsciously. “Little Bean? It’s midnight. Why’re you calling me? Is something wrong?”
“Ah! Aunt Yan, Mommy’s giving birth!”
“Huh… Who? What does that have to do—” Halfway through her sentence, she paused for a moment before she became completely awake. She quickly sat up on her bed with her eyes widened. “Muzi’s going to give birth?”
“Mm-hmm. Yes, Aunt Yan. We’re at the hospital already, and I’ve also called Uncle Qing to ask him to bring you over.”
Though confused, Yan was extremely anxious. She answered, “Sure. I’ll be there soon.”
Putting down her phone, Yan quickly jumped out of bed and changed out of her pajamas. She then reached for her phone and opened her bedroom door. Meanwhile, the bedroom door next to her room was also being opened. Luo Huimei looked at her with her drowsy eyes; she was probably woken up by how loud she was.
“Yan, it’s the middle of the night. Why aren’t you sleeping?”
“Mom?” Yan began to feel sorry when she saw Luo Huimei stand at the door. “Was I too loud? I’m so sorry. You can go back to bed. I’m going to head out for a while.”
“What’s going on?” Luo Huimei walked out of her room, frowning.
“Muzi’s going to give birth at the hospital now.”
“Muzi?” Luo Huimei was surprised. “Aren’t there two more days to go? What happened?”
Yan shook her head. “I just got the phone call from Little Bean and I’m not sure. I’m going to head downstairs now.”
“Hold on. It’s not safe for you to be out there in the middle of the night. Wait for me. I’ll quickly get changed and go with you.”
“Mom, you don’t need to!” Yan stopped her and proceeded to explain, “Someone’s coming to pick me up later. So you can go back to bed.”
Luo Huimei realized right away as she heard this and nodded. “That’s fine then. Please only go down when your ride’s here. After all, it’s the middle of the night right now.”
Yan turned to look at the clock on the wall and realized it was 3 in the morning. She would have to wait for a bit if she were to head downstairs now. Following that, Luo Huimei was seen waiting in the living room with Yan. In the quiet of the night, the sound of the clock ticking in the living room was loud and clear.
Whilst waiting, Yan had repeatedly told Luo Huimei to go back to bed, but to no avail. In the end, she decided to give up. Finally, her phone rang—it was Han Qing.
Yan instantly stood up and answered, “Hello?”
“I’m downstairs now. Are you ready?”
“Yes. I’m coming now.” After hanging up the phone, Yan turned to look at Luo Huimei. “Mom, please go back to bed now. Han Qing’s arrived.”
Luo Huimei walked to the windows and noticed a familiar car parked outside. Finally, she nodded. “Sure. Go ahead. I’m heading back to bed now. Please stay safe.”
“Alright, Mom!” Yan pushed the door open and ran downstairs.
Next to a street light on this quiet night was a parked car, which Yan walked up to. She opened its door and got into the passenger seat. Meanwhile, Luo Huimei made sure that she got in the car safe and sound before closing the window to go back to bed. The car made a turn and left.
“Seatbelt.”
After Han Qing’s reminder, Yan buckled her seatbelt in a flustered manner and asked, “Aren’t there supposed to be two more days until the baby is due? Is this an early delivery? Did something happen?”
Han Qing had a worried and serious look on him, which was probably because his younger sister was about to give birth. “Not sure. We’ll see when we get to the hospital.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Han Muzi was already in the labor ward by the time the two arrived at the hospital. Outside the ward were Song An, Little Bean, and Old Master Yuchi.
Seeing the two, Song An and Old Master Yuchi gave them a nod as their greeting.
“Uncle Qing! Aunt Yan!” Little Bean ran up to the two.
“Little Bean, where’s your mommy?” Yan asked, still catching her breath.
“Mommy’s in the labor ward now.”
Upon hearing this, Yan looked around and followed up, “Did your daddy go in as well?”
Little Bean blinked and nodded. “Yes!”
Yan was surprised by the fact that Ye Moxuan had gone into the labor ward. Though surprised, she began to feel envious; she was unsure if, in the future, her husband would be by her side when she gave birth. As she thought about this, she inadvertently turned to look at Han Qing. He had a deep frown on his face and did not notice the look on her face.
“What did the doctor say? Why is the delivery ahead of schedule? Is there a risk?”
Han Qing’s questions brought Yan back to reality from her unnecessary thoughts. She shook her head and walked up.
Seeing the worried look on the two, Song An stood up and pointed out, “Don’t worry. It’s just two days ahead of schedule, not two months. This is normal.” As a former doctor, Song An’s words gave them some assurance and the two began to calm down before they sat down on a bench in the corridor.
Inside the labor ward, Han Muzi was lying in bed and drenched in a cold sweat, while Ye Moxuan was sitting next to her, tightly holding her hand. Interestingly, Ye Moxuan looked worse than Han Muzi, and he certainly perspired more than her too.
Han Muzi caught Ye Moxuan in this state and could not help smiling. “I’m the one who’s giving birth, not you. Why do you look worse than me?”
Ye Moxuan did not know how to respond. His grip began to tighten. He muffled, “Is it really painful?”
Han Muzi shook her head. “Not really. It’s still bearable.” This being her second time giving birth, she was doing much better than the first time. Even though Han Muzi was not feeling too great, seeing how nervous Ye Moxuan was, she decided not to scare him. Then, she inquired after some thought, “Would you like to go outside and wait till I’m done?”
Ye Moxuan shook his head firmly. “I’ll be here with you.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1186
At this moment, Han Muzi wanted to tell Ye Moxuan that since he looked more in pain than she was, his presence gave her more pressure than she already had. She began to sweat a little more as she thought about this. It felt like it was Ye Moxuan who was giving birth instead of her.
When the doctor came over, he looked over to Ye Moxuan and charged, “If you’d like to stay with the mother until she delivers, you should at least show her some support and encouragement.”
Ye Moxuan nodded in agreement.
From now on, Han Muzi had to do whatever the doctor instructed her. Finally, it reached a point where the pain was so excruciating that her face began turning pale. When Ye Moxuan saw this, he immediately put his hand in front of her. “If you can’t take it anymore, bite my hand. Don’t try to hold it in.”
At this moment, the lips on Han Muzi’s pale face appeared to be slightly bloody; she was biting it so hard that it bled. As much as she was surprised to see Ye Moxuan’s hand being right next to her, she did not proceed to bite it. Ye Moxuan worried and directly inserted his fist into her mouth.
Han Muzi was shocked when he did that.
“Bite it if the pain’s too much! Don’t hold it in!” Ye Moxuan yelled.
Han Muzi wanted to push his hand away badly. After all, his hand was flesh, and he would be in great pain if she were to take a bite at it. The thought of this made Han Muzi shake her head as she believed that the pain was still bearable.
“Just bite it!” Ye Moxuan tried inducing her to do it like he was trying to coax a child to eat something. Meanwhile, Han Muzi was like the child who refused to open her mouth and eat the food right in front of her.
When the nurse saw this, she commented, “Miss Han, since your husband is asking you to do it, you should just do it. Why do you care about causing him pain when he himself doesn’t even care about it? Besides, he won’t understand the pain that you’re going through at this moment unless you give it a good bite. It’s not easy for women to give birth.”
Even though Han Muzi received the message, she could not bring herself to do it. All she wanted was for him to care more about her and help take care of the baby after the delivery. Nevertheless, she had already realized this, seeing how well Ye Moxuan had been taking care of her all this while. At this point, there was no need for her to do this. As she thought about this, a great pain came that caused her to lose control of herself, and she immediately took a big bite at Ye Moxuan’s hand.
This bite came so sudden and unexpected that it almost made Ye Moxuan shriek before he could suppress it.
Standing next to the two, the nurse and the doctor turned to look at Ye Moxuan. This was not their first time seeing a husband with his wife in the labor ward, and definitely not their first time seeing a husband who allowed his wife to bite his hand. However, as much as the husband was willing, the bite would surely cause him immense physical anguish. Even so, at this moment, Ye Moxuan had no expression on his face; he did not even have a frown.
The pain subsisted in Han Muzi as she was still trying to follow the steps instructed by the doctor.
Everyone who waited outside the labor ward had been quiet, not knowing what to say. Some thought about bringing up Han Muzi’s situation but decided that it would not be appropriate. As time passed, Little Bean had begun leaning on Yan, which made Old Master Yuchi slightly jealous.
Even though Yan and Han Muzi are tight, they have no blood relations. How can Little Bean just lean on her? At this juncture, Old Master Yuchi put out his hand and pulled Little Bean’s shirt. He ordered, “Little Bean, sit straight.”
“Huh?” Little Bean rubbed his sleepy eyes and looked at Old Master Yuchi confusedly. “Great-Grandfather, what’s wrong?”
The adorable look on his sleepy face softened Old Master Yuchi’s heart. He patted his head and responded, “Please sit properly and don’t lean on others. If you want to, you can come to me.”
Yan thought she understood what Old Master Yuchi was trying to get at: Little Bean was troubling her by leaning on her. So, she quickly replied, waving her hand, “It’s okay, Old Master Yuchi. Just let Little Bean sleep like this. He’s just a kid and he must be exhausted having to get up in the middle of the night.”
Yuchi Jin did not know how to respond. He was annoyed by that. What do you know? I just wanted my great-grandson to be close to me. You have no idea what I was trying to say.
Hearing what Yan said, Little Bean followed up with a nod before he continued finding a comfortable spot in her arms. Closing his eyes, he commented, “Aunt Yan, please wake me up when Mommy comes out.”
“Mm-hmm.” Yan nodded while pulling Little Bean’s rolled-up sleeves down. She took off her jacket and put it around him, making sure that he was warm. She whispered, “If you’re tired, take a nap. I’ll wake you up later.”
Though slightly jealous, Old Master Yuchi felt that Yan was treating his great-grandson fairly well. He turned over to Han Qing, who was seated very closely next to her. Even if a man and a woman know each other well, they don’t have to sit so close to each other, do they? All of a sudden, it dawned on Old Master Yuchi. Are these two seeing each other?
As if proving his assumptions, right after Han Qing saw Yan take off her jacket, he let out a frown and immediately took off his suit jacket before putting it on Yan. This startled her. She felt embarrassed as Old Master Yuchi and Song An were with them. If I knew he’d do this, I should’ve let him take off his suit jacket for Little Bean. That’s killing two birds with one stone.
While she was feeling awkward, Song An, who was standing next to them, did not appear to be bothered by anything. She let out a gentle smile and turned away. The same could not be said about Old Master Yuchi, who kept staring at them—especially Yan.
Though embarrassed initially, Yan felt later on that there was nothing to be embarrassed about as they would have to make it public at some point. She just had to brave through this.
Having waited for a long time, no one seemed to be sleepy even though it was late at night. This included Little Bean, who was in Yan’s arms. His eyes were closed, but his heart was with his mommy in the labor ward. Finally… the doors to the labor ward opened and they heard something. The few who were guarding the door quickly stood up; except for Yan, who had a kid leaning on her lap.
Very quickly, Little Bean got up too, and Yan followed suit. Her feet began to feel numb after taking a few steps, which was when she heard the congratulatory voice of the doctor.
“Congratulations, Mrs. Ye has just given birth to a baby girl.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1187
Although everyone had already known that it was going to be a baby girl, they could still hardly contain their excitement when they heard the announcement from the doctor. This was especially true of Old Master Yuchi, who had been alone for so many years. The fact that he now had a great-granddaughter made him feel elated. He was seen clapping his hands when the announcement was made. “This is great!”
Song An, after seeing her father behave in this way, looked over to him and whispered, “How old do you think you are?”
Hearing this comment, Old Master Yuchi gently rubbed his nose. What’s wrong with me? Can’t I be happy for my granddaughter-in-law who just gave birth? Why is she so difficult all the time? However, he was able to shrug it off quickly because of how excited he was.
Then, the sound of a baby crying came from the labor ward. It was loud and crisp. Song An pursed her lips. “Looks like this girl has been torturing Muzi.”
This comment made the doctor laugh. He added, “That sounds right. She has such big and cheerful eyes; she looks very healthy. So, don’t worry.”
After giving birth, Han Muzi was practically exhausted and worn out. She was seen lying there with her eyes barely opened. But, whenever she thought about what happened earlier, she could not help but flash a smile on her pale lips. When the baby first came out, she could barely speak. The doctor brought the baby to her for her to carry but she was too worn out to do so.
Seeing that, the doctor brought it to Ye Moxuan, who clenched his nose and responded in a deep voice, “I wanna see my wife first.”
The doctor was caught by surprise. Isn’t this child his daughter? Why such bias? However, Ye Moxuan could not be bothered by what they might think of him. He was still holding Han Muzi’s hands tightly; he bent over to gently wipe off the sweat on her forehead before kissing her lightly. “You’ve done a great job, my dear wife.”
Han Muzi felt her forehead was wet when she could barely open her eyes. In the next moment, she heard Ye Moxuan’s soft and gentle voice. Even though she was exhausted, at this moment, she felt that everything was worth it. She chuckled as she recalled this incident.
She was comforted by the fact that Ye Moxuan chose her over their child and made sure that she was fine before reaching for their daughter. With a husband like this, what else could she ask for? All the hardships and sufferings she went through before were all worth it.
Finally, Han Muzi was transferred to a normal ward. After settling the baby down, the doctor placed it next to Han Muzi in her bed. She was so small and fair as she lay there obediently. Her hands curled into two pink fists, and she was sleeping peacefully.
The rest of them were on one side of the bed, looking at the newborn, while Ye Moxuan was on the other side, still not letting go of Han Muzi’s hand.
The most excited person was perhaps Old Master Yuchi, who had been happily staring at his great-granddaughter. He could not help but gently poke her little pink fists with his coarse finger. However, after realizing how fragile a newborn was, he decided to stop so that he would not cause her any injuries. Then, all of a sudden, he looked over to Little Bean, who was standing next to him looking serious.
“Little Bean, do you remember the things that I gave you?”
Little Bean was leaning on the bedside watching his little sister when Old Master Yuchi spoke. He looked confused. “Great-Grandfather, what about that?”
“You have to split them with your little sister!”
While Little Bean was still processing what he had just heard, Old Master Yuchi followed up, “Look at how adorable your little sister is. You’ll have to take good care of her. Do you understand?”
These words made Han Muzi chuckle. Little Bean was a smart kid and he was at the age where he could think for himself, so she felt that she should add something after hearing what Old Master Yuchi said. “Grandfather, perhaps you can keep those things with you. Little Bean might be a little too young now to make that call.”
“How so?” Old Master Yuchi seemed a bit ruffled. “He has the right to decide the moment those things were given to him. Little Bean used to be by himself, but now he’s got a little sister; he should treat her nicely.”
Han Muzi glanced at Little Bean; she was worried that Little Bean would be emotionally affected by what Old Master Yuchi just said. It was as if he was telling Little Bean that before his little sister came to this world, he could have all the things and love from everyone to himself. Now that he had a little sister, he would have to share half of everything with her.
As much as Han Muzi had prepared Little Bean about the reality of having a little sister before, and even though he was receptive to the fact that he was going to have a little sister, it did not mean that they could openly discuss this.
At this point, Little Bean, perhaps knowing what his mommy was thinking, commented, “Great-Grandfather, don’t worry! I’m the big brother, so I’ll definitely treat her well. I’d be willing and happy even if I had to give all of it to her.” As he finished, he put his hands around his little sister’s fists.
His hands were not big, but they were big enough to completely wrap around the fists of a newborn. The sight of that looked harmonious and adorable. These words comforted Old Master Yuchi. Song An was rendered speechless by what her father said. She thought to herself that if he was not her father, she would have knocked his head to wake him up.
All of a sudden, Old Master Yuchi added, “Oh right, do you have a name for this little girl already?”
Han Muzi was startled and looked at Ye Moxuan, who responded with a gentle look in his eyes, “You can name her.”
A few moments later, Han Muzi confessed, “Grandfather, we’ve actually had a nickname for this little girl already, but not an official name. You know more than us, so could you name her?”
Old Master Yuchi felt flattered and began stroking his beard like a scholar. “Since you’ve asked, I’ll have to agree. Coming up with a name is an important job, so I’ll need some time. Perhaps you can tell me what her nickname is.”
“Little Sprout.”
Little Sprout. This name goes well with her older brother’s name, Little Bean. At first, Old Master Yuchi was slightly opposed to this name, but after giving it some thought, he gladly nodded. “Not bad! It suits my great-granddaughter well!”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1188
At this moment, everyone was standing around Little Sprout, feeling excited and joyous. This included Yan, who was excited when she saw Little Sprout’s adorable look. She would happily poke Little Sprout’s soft and cute fists from time to time with her finger.
When Han Qing noticed Yan’s gesture, the sweet look on her face pleased him.
All of a sudden, Han Muzi looked over to Yan and inquired, “Isn’t my daughter adorable?”
Not knowing what Han Muzi was going to say next, Yan nodded to her excitedly for giving birth to a baby girl. “Of course. Little Sprout’s really adorable. Look at her hand; look at her chubby face. She’s too adorable! If it’s not because of how small she is, I would definitely cuddle her.” Newborns were indeed too small and fragile. As one who was never a mother before, for the sake of safety, Yan did not dare to pick up Little Sprout.
“No worries. You can try carrying her.”
Yan shook her head. “No need. I’m not in a rush. I can wait until she’s bigger. I’ll have plenty of opportunities in the future.”
“If you really like her, you can hurry up and have one yourself.” When Han Muzi finished, she intentionally gave her brother a look.
A moment ago, Yan was still happily playing with Little Sprout. Now, she was stunned and her eyes widened while looking at Han Muzi. Why did she choose to mention this in front of so many people? Not knowing what Han Qing was thinking, she was embarrassed because of the many people around them. She did not dare look at Han Qing at all.
Still, Han Qing was protective of Yan. He threw Han Muzi a bland glance and whispered, “You just gave birth and you already have the energy to poke fun at others, eh? You don’t seem tired at all.”
Han Muzi blinked and held on to Ye Moxuan’s hand. “I have someone keeping me company. How can I be tired?”
While she was holding Ye Moxuan’s hand, she suddenly remembered that the spot she was holding onto right now was where the bite wound was. Even though it was not anything serious and was merely a teeth mark, it was deep and even started bleeding.
Earlier on, when Han Muzi heard the doctor ask Ye Moxuan if he wanted the wound to be attended to, Ye Moxuan rejected the offer without a second thought. But now… Han Muzi frantically removed her hand and looked at the deep teeth mark, feeling terribly sorry.
“Don’t look at me like that. It doesn’t hurt at all.”
How can it not hurt? Han Muzi did not buy that. How can he say that when the wound is so deep? “Do you think I’m a child?”
Hearing the two exchange words, Song An gave the rest a look for them to quietly leave the room.
“No one thinks you’re a child.” Ye Moxuan snickered and placed the hand behind him. “As a man, I can never complain about pain. It’s just a small wound and it’s bearable. But you, my wife, have done a great job today.”
His words moved her. No matter how old she was—as a girl, at her current age, or even as she grew older—she could never resist sweet words like these that came from the person she loved. Even though Han Muzi had just gone through excruciating pain from giving birth, she nevertheless felt an enormous sense of satisfaction.
It was different from when she gave birth to Little Bean, which was a terrible experience for her as she had just broken up with Ye Moxuan. At that time, she had no idea who the father was. The only thing she held onto was her determination to not give up on her son and to bring him into the world single-handedly. Whereas now, it was completely different. She had the company of so many loved ones with their love, care, and concern.
While she was deep in thought, Ye Moxuan suddenly came close to her face with his forehead and gently kissed her on the tip of her nose. Seeing this, Han Muzi reflexively pushed him away. “There are people here…”
“No.” Ye Moxuan grabbed her hand and smiled. “They’re gone.”
It was at this point that Han Muzi realized the crowded ward was now left with just the two of them and Little Sprout, who was sleeping soundly on the bed. How did they disappear so quickly? Why didn’t I notice anything?
Ye Moxuan came up to her again and gently kissed the corner of her mouth.
As much as Han Muzi would like to carry on with this intimate moment, the thought of the wound on his hand made her decide to stop him. “Stop it. The wound on your hand looks serious. Can you please find the doctor now?”
He continued kissing her. “Why the rush? I can go later.”
Knowing that she had just given birth, all he wanted right now was to kiss her and nothing else. Even then, Han Muzi seemed to be resistant. “You can’t. You have to go now.” Since she was the one who inflicted the bite wound, if she did not ask him to take care of it now, she could hardly imagine what would happen if the wound became infected.
Ye Moxuan could no longer reject Han Muzi’s insistence. He left to find a doctor.
It was a long night and everyone was tired. Song An suggested, “I’ll stay here and be with them. The rest of you can go home. Don’t you have to go to work tomorrow?” After that, Song An looked over to Han Qing and asked, “Could I trouble you to send the old man and the kid home?”
Han Qing nodded unemotionally. He was already planning on doing the same even if Song An never asked. After all, Little Bean was his nephew, and Old Master Yuchi was an elder of his, so there was no reason why he would not do so.
“You should all go now.” As she finished, Ye Moxuan was seen coming out from the patient ward. He looked at everyone with a cold look—a look that was devoid of the gentleness he had before Han Muzi gave birth. Even his voice sounded indifferent. “All of you can go home now. I’ll take care of the rest.”
Song An raised her eyebrows. “You’ve already been here for a few nights in a row now. Are you sure you can handle this by yourself?”
Ye Moxuan nodded, still looking apathetic. After some thought, Song An agreed. “Alright then, if that’s what you want. We’ll all go back now and get some rest before we come back tomorrow.”
“Mm-hmm.” Ye Moxuan gently lifted his head.
Since Song An did not have to stay the night, she now had to assume the responsibility of bringing Little Bean and Old Master Yuchi back to Seabay Villa where she would probably also spend the night. On the other hand, Han Qing brought Yan home, even though she wanted to stay the night with Muzi. After all, the two were besties. But, she dismissed the thought the moment she realized that Ye Moxuan would want to spend time with Han Muzi more than she did. In the end, she decided to go with Han Qing.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1189
Song An did not recommend breastfeeding Little Sprout. The reason for that was if Han Muzi breastfed the baby, she would constantly need to wake up during the night. Sometimes, she would even need to breastfeed during mealtimes. Therefore, it was more troublesome and would be harder on her body. Accordingly, Song An suggested feeding the baby powdered milk instead. That way, Han Muzi would have a chance to rest. At the same time, Ye Moxuan would become a qualified stay-at-home dad.
Han Muzi understood that Song An was saying that for her own good. However, she had breastfed Little Bean in the past and intended to continue doing so with her second child. Thus, she did not adopt this suggestion.
“It’s okay; it won’t last that long anyway. We’ll let her drink breast milk.”
Song An blinked. “Have you already thought about it?”
“Yes.”
“Alright then.” Song An turned toward Ye Moxuan, who was standing nearby. “Even though she is breastfeeding, as a father, you need to help out as much as you can. Take care of her emotions, do you understand? Women who just conceived are susceptible to postpartum depression! If the baby has any issues or needs in the middle of the night, you need to wake up to help out as well!”
In reality, Ye Moxuan had already done his part even without her nagging. Last night, Han Muzi had been extremely tired. Just as she was falling asleep, in her drowsy state, she vaguely heard her baby crying. When she forced her eyes open, she saw him make a shushing noise at her, then prepared to carry the baby outside.
Unfortunately, for some reason, whether it was because he had held the baby in the wrong posture, Little Sprout began screaming even louder. Her screaming cries left her daddy—a big, grown man—helpless and completely at a loss of what to do. As a result, all Han Muzi heard was a series of awkward coaxing. “Don’t cry, don’t cry…” Feeling slightly annoyed, she pushed aside the blanket and sat up, then reached her hand out toward him. “Maybe she’s hungry; bring her to me.”
He raised his eyebrows slightly. He was worried that the baby in front of him would disturb his wife, who had not had much rest.
“That’s your daughter. Stop overthinking it and just bring her here.”
Thus, he had no choice but to carefully carry the child over to her. Taking the baby from him, she began to breastfeed her, then glared at him irritably. “What are you thinking?”
Pursing his thin lips, he glanced at her but said nothing. He had done his homework diligently and accompanied her to various parenting courses. Throughout his studies, he constantly received criticism. Even so, he managed to complete them with flying colors in the end. However, when it came to the real deal, he found that it was not easy at all. After all, the doll in the courses could not move. On the other hand, when he picked up Little Sprout just now, his entire body froze in response.
After all, her body was smaller and softer than he imagined—she was so small that his large hands could barely hold her and so soft that he felt like he could crush his daughter to death just by exerting some strength. Thus, he held her carefully and clumsily.
Sure enough, she was hungry. After drinking some milk, she quietened down. Then, the room fell silent again; only the sound of a baby suckling could be heard. As time passed, the little baby had enough milk, and drowsily fell back asleep.
Han Muzi placed Little Sprout next to her. Ye Moxuan, who was about to walk over to pick the baby up, paused mid-movement at a warning glare from her. She did not want him to disturb the peace. Afterward, she gently coaxed the baby to sleep while he stayed on guard beside her. When dawn broke, she said to him, “You should go and sleep for a while on the bed next door. I will call for you if Little Sprout wakes up later.”
Even so, Ye Moxuan refused to go to sleep and stubbornly stayed beside her. He had not gotten a wink of sleep since last night. There were dark circles under his eyes, and his voice was hoarse when he spoke.
Han Muzi felt her heart ache for him. Later, she asked Song An to keep her company, then chased him away to rest. At first, he refused, but he was soundly berated by Song An. “Do you think your body is made out of steel? If you refuse to rest now, who will take care of Muzi and Little Sprout when you collapse from exhaustion? Besides, if you keep forcing yourself here, don’t you think Muzi will keep worrying over you? How will she rest well if she is worried about you?”
After being told off by Song An, he realized that what she said made sense. So, he left to go back and rest up. On the fifth day after Han Muzi gave birth, Little Sprout had familiarized herself with the people around her. When Old Master Yuchi came to play with her, she would giggle happily. No matter who came to play with her, she would giggle in response—she was very accepting and respectful of their feelings.
Hence, everybody loved to play with her. ‘Did you go to the hospital today to play with Little Sprout?’ ‘Yes!’ ‘Did Little Sprout smile today?’ ‘Of course!’
Yan took a lot of pictures of Little Sprout, then she uploaded them on Instagram. In response, a bunch of people liked her post and excitedly asked when she had given birth…
Embarrassed beyond belief, she almost chopped off her hand in regret. Why did I allow the post to be shown to the public? I should have set it to private after uploading it!
On this day, Old Master Yuchi and Little Bean were playing with Little Sprout by the side while Han Muzi watched from nearby. Listening to Little Sprout’s giggles, she felt comforted by it, but at the same time, she could not help but worry. Why do I feel… as if Little Sprout’s smile seems a little dumb? She couldn’t possibly be… Although the thought formed in her heart, she did not dare to voice it out.
After all, Little Bean was so smart. Even when he was a newborn, he was very different from Little Sprout, who giggled at anybody who played with her. Still, her expressions seemed especially dumb. I hope she is just very innocent!
However, Little Bean, the little rascal, actually had the same line of thought as Han Muzi. Unfortunately too, he actually said it out loud. Opening his eyes wide, he looked at her and asked, “Mommy, why do I feel like my little sister is a little dumb?” After saying that, he tilted his head to the side; his expression was adorable, innocent, and guileless. Even so, she nearly spat out a mouthful of blood at his words.
On the other hand, Old Master Yuchi, who was listening by the side, could not stomach it anymore and he rapped his knuckles against Little Bean’s head. “You little brat, what nonsense are you saying? That is your little sister! What do you mean she seems a little dumb?”
Clutching his head in pain, Little Bean snorted pitifully, “I was just saying; why do you have to be so fierce? Is it because you don’t want me anymore since you have Little Sprout now?”
“Your little sister is a girl. As her brother, you need to take good care of her. Next time, you shouldn’t say such things anymore!”
Little Bean said nothing more, but every time he saw her dumb and silly smiling expression, he still felt worried. If his little sister was not dumb, then she was probably way too innocent. Sigh. Don’t tell me all the intelligence was passed to me, so there’s none left for Little Sprout?
After Old Master Yuchi went home, he had been thinking long and hard before deciding on a name.
“I came up with a good name last night. Isn’t the little one called Little Sprout? After considering it, I’ve found a fitting name for her. Why don’t we name her Han Ya?”
Han Ya? Why does it sound like a boy’s name? Han Muzi hesitated, then looked over at Ye Moxuan.
Ye Moxuan pursed his lips; he was deep in thought. Then, he spoke up, “What do you think of repeating the words? A single character name sounds stiff and unsuitable for a girl. I think Han Yaya sounds much better.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1190
“Han Yaya?” Old Master Yuchi mulled over it for a bit, then nodded in satisfaction. “Let’s go with that then.”
“Huh?” Little Bean tilted his head to the side as he watched the three adults discussing the baby’s name; he felt as if something was wrong. In the past, he was named Han Yishu, taking after his mommy’s surname. At that time, his mommy was alone, and his daddy was not in the picture yet, so he inherited the Han surname. However, why did it seem like his great-grandfather, Daddy, and Mommy had tacitly agreed to the Han surname? What’s going on? I wonder if they forgot, or if they had already discussed this before. Should I remind them about it?
Little Bean held his chin in his small hands as he considered it deeply. If the baby was given the Han surname, it was to his mommy’s benefit. Seeing as he naturally took his mommy’s side, it was for the best if the baby took on the Han surname.
“Little Bean, what do you think of the name for your little sister?” Little Bean was still deep in his thoughts when Old Master Yuchi suddenly shifted his gaze toward him. Old Master Yuchi had gone back to think long and hard about the name. Since Little Bean’s name was Han Yishu, he wanted to name Little Sprout starting with the letter ‘Y’ as well. At first, he thought he might as well name her ‘Han Ya’er’, but felt that the ‘er’ was not necessary, and so, he decided to stick with just Han Ya instead.
Little Bean met his great-grandfather’s gaze, then lightly blinked his eyes. “It’s great.” Glancing at Old Master Yuchi, he then glanced over at Ye Moxuan and Han Muzi. “Still, are you really planning on giving my little sister the Han surname?” Forget it; I might as well mention it now. It was better to mention it now than to wait until his great-grandfather noticed it down the road, and accused his mommy of taking advantage of his daddy.
In response to Little Bean’s question, Old Master Yuchi froze on the spot for a long while before the realization hit him. “That’s true; why did I forget such an important matter? You and Little Sprout are both Xuan’s children, so you should be taking on the Ye surname instead.” After that, his face flushed beet-red. I can’t believe it; I actually forgot something as important as that. I nearly pushed both my great-grandchildren out of the family lineage.
“Great-Grandfather, it’s not like you have the surname ‘Ye’ anyway, so it doesn’t matter to you what surname the baby takes on,” Little Bean quipped up promptly. Hearing those words, Old Master Yuchi had another realization.
The reason why he didn’t pay attention to the surname was most likely because he did not carry the Ye surname himself. Besides, he was the great-grandfather on the maternal side. No wonder he felt that the name Han Yaya had rolled off his tongue so smoothly.
Han Muzi felt a little embarrassed after hearing Little Bean’s reminder. In the past, she had not considered this issue either, so she did not notice it this time around. Thus, she hastily glanced at Ye Moxuan after coming back to her senses. By default, a child would take after the paternal surname from the moment it was born. So, she wasn’t sure what he was thinking when he silently agreed to the name Han Yaya. Would he think that she was being unreasonable and selfish?
Unexpectedly, when she glanced over at him, her eyes coincidentally met with his deep, dark eyes. His intelligent eyes were filled with warmth. “What’s wrong?”
“About the surname…” she began with some difficulty.
“I don’t care what surname she takes on.” He sat down beside her; a faint smile appeared on his cold lips. “It’s not a bad idea for her to have the Han surname; after all, you are responsible for giving birth to both of our children.”
Old Master Yuchi felt anxious at those words. However, thinking it over briefly, he decided it had nothing to do with him since the two children would not take on the Yuchi surname anyway. Pondering over it, he began to have another idea.
Han Muzi did not care what the surnames of her children were; she was fine with either Han or Ye. As a married couple, it was still one of their surnames anyway. Before she could open her mouth to respond, Old Master Yuchi coughed lightly, attracting the attention of the three others in the room. Perhaps feeling that the words he was about to say were rather shameless, he had on an uncomfortable and embarrassed expression. After hesitating for a while, he said, “Since the two of you don’t care which surname the child takes after… why don’t you use the Yuchi surname instead?”
His suggestion was met with silence across the room, then Little Bean quipped, “Great-Grandfather, you sure are crafty.”
Old Master Yuchi felt even more embarrassed when he got told off by Little Bean. However, the words had already been said; was there any reason to take them back? He might as well follow through.
Thus, he bit the bullet and continued, “The two of you don’t seem to care for the surname anyway. Besides, nothing good has ever come out of the Ye Family, besides Ye Moxuan. Based on that, you should not use the Ye surname. Isn’t it a good idea to take on my surname instead?”
Little Bean snorted lightly, rejecting his great-grandfather’s suggestion. “I don’t want to; Yuchi is a longer word. If I have the Yuchi surname, then I have to write extra letters in my name.”
Old Master Yuchi was rendered speechless. This little brat; is this really a matter of writing extra letters in his name?
Ye Moxuan was quite taken with the suggestion. As Old Master Yuchi mentioned, nothing good ever came from the Ye Family; whether it was his grandfather or his father, they were not good people. If possible, he would love to drop the Ye surname from his name. Unfortunately, his mother had not changed his surname despite her divorce, indicating that she still held a trace of affection for his father. With that in mind, he couldn’t leave the Ye surname behind. If that was so, then why don’t he…
He threw a glance at Han Muzi. Just from this one glance, she vaguely understood what he was thinking. Even so, she was quite shocked—she did not expect him to agree. Did he really care so little about his reputation?
At this moment, he spoke up, “It’s not like we can’t go with the Yuchi surname. However, we can’t give both of them that surname. Let’s name one with the Han surname, and the other with the Yuchi surname.”
Old Master Yuchi was surprised to hear those words. After all, he did not expect Ye Moxuan to agree so easily. I guess he really dislikes the Ye surname. “T-Then, which child would take the Yuchi surname?” He was so excited that if humans had a tail, his tail would cause earthquakes from its enthusiastic wagging.
Ye Moxuan looked at Little Bean indifferently. “We’ll let them choose themselves.”
Then, Old Master Yuchi looked toward Little Bean, then at Little Sprout. After that, he tentatively asked, “Little Sprout is still a newborn; she doesn’t know how to choose. How can that be counted?”
Han Muzi knew that he only had two daughters. Moreover, his eldest daughter had passed while Song An seemed like she had no interest in love. If Song An failed to get married, then the Yuchi Family would end there. Furthermore, it seemed like he had already planned to leave most of his assets to Little Bean. So, it was for the best if Little Bean took on his surname now. Thus, she said, “Why not let Little Bean take on the Yuchi surname?”
Old Master Yuchi drew in a deep breath. “I-Is that appropriate?” To be honest, he had not dared to even consider that possibility. He thought that if Little Sprout took after his surname, he would already be overjoyed to receive another adorable and well-behaved great-granddaughter. However, who could have expected Han Muzi to be so generous…
