Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1311
Han Qing kept his phone away and took her hand in his. “Let’s go. Aren’t you tired? Let’s rest.”
Yan stood still while pushing hard against him. “Answer me. You should be working right now. Secretary Su phoned you just now, didn’t she? Has something happened in the company? I’m fine. You don’t have to come all the way here just to accompany me.
You should go back. The company is more important—mmph!” Her vision went black as he sealed her lips with his. Yan shoved against him, but Han Qing grabbed her wrists and held them behind her. Then, he leaned over her to deepen the kiss.
One second, two seconds… Yan wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but she was dizzy from the kiss. She leaned against Han Qing’s chest weakly and he picked her up effortlessly to carry her into the bedroom. By the time Yan collected herself, he had already placed her on the soft bed. In fact, Han Qing was taking her shoes off. She couldn’t help but blush when he held her fair feet in his hands before she tried to yank her feet away instinctively. However, Han Qing grabbed onto her feet while cocking a brow at her. “Are you scared of me?”
Yan flinched, but she shook her head. She tried pulling her feet away while thinking to herself, How did we end up in bed when we were just kissing a second ago? Is he trying to do something here? Just when Yan was lost in her chaotic thoughts, Han Qing already took the initiative to release her. After that, he covered her with the quilt from the side. “Sleep well.”
His warm palm cupped her cheek tenderly. After a while, he shifted his palm over her head to caress her hair gently. For some reason, his actions reminded Yan of her father because when she was a child, her father used to caress her head like that. Yan’s father would have a loving and kind expression as a smile etched across his face.
I didn’t feel anything when my father did that. However, it just feels wrong and inappropriate now that I’m staring at Han Qing’s thin lips while he’s caressing my hair with a blank expression. Cough. Cough…
Yan looked away while she blushed. “What about you? Are you going back to the company?” she asked.
“It depends on you.”
“Huh?”
“Do you want me to stay and keep you company?” Han Qing purposely deepened his voice when he asked her. His voice sounded husky and alluring, as if he was seducing her on purpose.
Yan shook her head immediately. “I think it’s better not to. You have a lot of work in the company. You should head back first.”
“Why are you so talkative? Just close your eyes and sleep. Forget about other things.”
Yan hesitated before answering him, “Okay…” She shut her eyes, but she immediately felt his scorching gaze on her face. It made her feel uncomfortable, so she opened her eyes abruptly. True enough, Han Qing stared at her. After their eyes met for a while, Yan turned to her side to switch her position with her back facing him. I won’t be able to fall asleep if I let him continue staring at me. Hence, she had no choice but to have her back facing him.
On the other hand, Han Qing seemed to have guessed her predicament because he did not comment when she turned away. Instead, he sat quietly beside her. The room was quiet. In the beginning, Yan clearly heard the sound of her and Han Qing’s breathing, but she started to feel sleepy in the end. Her eyelids felt heavier and they were forced shut soon. She could no longer hear anything else.
Han Qing stayed by her side until he heard that the young lady’s breathing steadied. He wasn’t in a rush because he waited for a while to make sure that she was deep asleep before getting up to cover her with the quilt. Then, he stared at her while she was sound asleep for a very long time before bending down to kiss her forehead softly. Yan was semi-conscious when she felt something soft landing on her forehead. It was a light sensation and it felt as soft as a jelly. However, the sensation only lasted for a very short time. She didn’t dwell on it because she was soon fast asleep.
It was already night time by the time Yan woke up. She rubbed her eyes while lifting the quilt up. She sat up and saw through the window that it was already dark outside and there were voices chatting in the living room. She yawned as she got out of bed and wore her pair of flip-flops before walking out of her room. She was still ruffling her messy bed-hair while walking to the living room and yawning continuously. Why am I so sleepy? I want to sleep some more.
However, Yan became wide-awake when she was shaken to her core. She saw a tall figure in the living room who was sitting on the couch. The person’s legs were so long that the space seemed too cramped for him. His cold and distant face was turned slightly sideways, but he was wearing a kind expression while chatting with Mr. Zhou.
H-Han Qing!! Yan snapped back to her senses immediately. She recalled Han Qing coming to see her before she went to bed, but she did not expect him to hang around until she woke up.
Yan had walked out of her room without looking in the mirror, so she was imagining how shabby she looked at that moment. Luckily, Han Qing was chatting with Mr. Zhou, so he did not notice anything amiss. However, just when Yan planned to sneakily return to her room to change her clothes, Luo Huimei’s voice rang loud and clear at the worst possible time. “Yan, you rascal, are you finally willing to get out of bed? Why are you standing there with a blank expression? Go change and freshen up before dinner.”
Yan, who secretly planned to sneak into her room, was rendered speechless when she heard that. Mr. Zhou and Han Qing glanced over and focused on Yan when they heard Luo Huimei’s sudden exclamation. Yan was utterly embarrassed; she hoped that the ground would open and swallow her up. However, everything was too late now—she didn’t even bother looking at Han Qing’s expression. Instead, she turned around and ran into her room with the sound of her flip-flops smacking loudly.
Bang! After closing her room door, Yan dashed into the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth. She combed her hair, realizing in horror that her hair was in a mess after waking up from her nap. However, she knew that she didn’t have time to wash her hair, which left her with no choice but to tie her hair up in a bun.
She changed into some vibrant but casual daily clothing before coming out of her room. However, I look slightly pale. Should I put on some lipstick? Would it be too much and deliberate if I were to apply lipstick now? She took out a lip gloss while gesturing to herself in the mirror. Should I apply some? I’m in a dilemma.
Knock! Knock! Just when she was deep in thought, someone knocked on her door suddenly. She got a fright when she heard that and her lip-gloss wand smeared across the corner of her lips. Ahh!! Since she almost jumped in shock, she put her lip gloss down while grabbing some paper towels to wipe away the smudged lip gloss from the corner of her lips. .
“Gosh, you little rascal! What are you doing in there? I told you to freshen up quickly. What is taking you so long?” Luo Huimei’s voice hissed through the door. Yan bought the lip gloss specifically because its selling point was that it wouldn’t leave smudges on cups since it was smudge-resistant.
It was advertised as a must-have lip gloss for girls, so she bought it after listening to the tagline. However, later on, she noticed after applying the lip gloss on her lips, it would still end up smudging and leaving marks on cups. I even recall complaining how fake the marketing for this lip-gloss was! However, why isn’t the gloss coming off right now?
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1312
Because Yan had fair skin coupled with the intense color of the lip gloss, it didn’t matter how quickly she tried removing the color because the lip gloss had stained her delicate, fair skin. Yan felt helpless and she had no choice but to pick up the makeup remover. She answered Luo Huimei while applying some makeup remover, “I’m almost done.”
“What on earth are you doing?”
“Aunty Zhou, go ahead and take your seat at the table first,” Han Qing’s voice suddenly spoke right outside the door. Yan was shocked to her core. Why is he here too? Is he planning to join the fun? Fortunately, I managed to remove the lip-gloss stain. However, something worse happened—a patch of her foundation was gone. Yan was rendered speechless when she saw that. It’s true that I’m down on my luck this year. Nothing is going smoothly for me, no matter what I do this year. She was left with no choice but to remove all her makeup and foundation. Then, she washed her face with some facial cleanser.
Han Qing saw Yan walking out of the bathroom when he opened the room door. Water droplets clung onto her face. Their eyes met. Yan felt like crying in her mind. I want to give him my best side. Why did I ruin that again? Therefore, she smiled at him awkwardly while explaining, “I just woke up, so I figured I’d feel refreshed after washing my face.”
“Okay.” Han Qing nodded while taking a handkerchief out of his pocket to wipe away the water droplets from Yan’s face. “Alright, let’s have dinner. Uncle and Aunty Zhou have waited quite a long time for you.”
Yan was about to take the handkerchief from Han Qing to wash it, but he already kept it back in his pocket. After that, he led her out of the room. In all honesty, Yan wanted to ask several questions, Why are you staying back to have dinner with us? Have you been hanging around since afternoon? You couldn’t have stayed by my side all the while and staring at me while I slept, could you? Nevertheless, she just couldn’t bring herself to ask those questions in the end.
By the time they arrived at the kitchen, both Mr. and Mrs. Zhou were already seated at the table. Luo Huimei nudged her husband when Han Qing and Yan approached them. “Old man, just look at them. Don’t you think they are made for each other?”
Mr. Zhou glanced at them through his far-sighted glasses. “President Han is such an outstanding man, but our daughter…” he commented.
“Hey! What are you saying? That’s your daughter you’re talking about. What kind of parent speaks ill of their own daughter?”
“Well, I know what she’s like because she is my daughter.”
“Hmph! I don’t care! My daughter is a catch and whoever ends up with her is lucky. The two of them compliment each other and they are a match made in heaven.”
Mr. Zhou was rendered speechless when he heard that. He did not want to argue with Luo Huimei. Besides, there’s no right match when it comes to feelings and relationships. It all depends on both parties involved. What good does it do if a couple look good together in appearance, but they can’t connect emotionally? In the beginning, when I learned that my daughter’s boyfriend is President Han from the Han Group, I admit that I was shaken. Others might not understand what the Han Group represented. However, I’ve worked in the Ye Group, so I’m well-aware of the scale at which these large groups operate.
The Ye, Han and Lin Groups were all large renowned companies. Previously, when Mr. Zhou arranged for Yan to join the company, he hoped that his ordinary daughter would find a partner similar to her—working in the company. Then, they’d end up getting married with a perfect life ahead of them. Mr. Zhou hoped that she would live a contented life with her husband and children. However, he never expected her to quit her job halfway and he was furious about it. However, he accepted it because he figured it was fine as long as his daughter was happy. Happiness in life and health are the most important thing within a person’s limited lifetime.
Well, I might not have understood this theory if I hadn’t brushed shoulders with death. Hence, I’ve always assumed my daughter would fall for someone ordinary—perhaps someone working in the company’s management level at best. I never expected her to end up with President Han. I am very happy that my daughter’s boyfriend is capable, but as a father, I feel both happy and worried. After all, he is Han Qing of the Han Group. Previously, I heard that Han Qing is not interested in women. In fact, no woman had ever been close to him. Yet, he’s suddenly with my daughter now. Could it be due to his age? Does he want to get married? Is that why he’s choosing a random woman to fulfill that role? Even if he were to randomly pick a woman, he wouldn’t have picked my daughter.
Later, Luo Huimei told him that Yan was the best friend of Han Qing’s biological younger sister. She explained that they knew each other for quite some time when they were abroad. Mr. Zhou felt slightly relieved upon learning that. Despite the truth, he was still extremely worried. Of course I love my daughter and it’s because I love my daughter that I’m worried that Yan would suffer when she’s together with Han Qing. After all, he is such an outstanding man. What would I do if he isn’t serious about my daughter? What would happen if he decides to just abandon Yan? Nevertheless, Mr. Zhou did not voice out his thoughts.
This was Han Qing’s first time as a guest in the Zhou Family’s residence. He did not have time to bring any gifts over, but Luo Huimei had cooked up a feast for him.
“Han Qing, this is your first time as a guest here, but I’m not sure what you like. That’s why I made a bit of everything. Please let me know if there is anything not up to your liking,” Luo Huimei remarked earnestly once the food is served.
Yan and Han Qing sat side-by-side at the table. She was shocked when she saw the dishes on the table. Throughout my countless meals at home, this is the first time I’ve witnessed such a feast. It almost feels like a five-star hotel spread. It is extravagant, yet wasteful, Yan thought to herself. We can’t possibly finish so much food.
Han Qing was surprised as well, but he noticed Luo Huimei’s enthusiastic smile. Hence, he knew that Yan’s mother was being friendly and trying to make him feel welcomed. However, it was possible that she treated him with courtesy due to his status, so Han Qing shook off his cold and distant aura while letting his guard down. “Aunty Zhou, you don’t have to trouble yourself in the future. I’m not a picky-eater. I eat everything.”
Luo Huimei commented with a smile, “That won’t do. These are all home-cooked food. I’m sure you are not used to it. However, it’s better to have more home-cooked food in your daily life. You shouldn’t always eat out. My cooking might not be better than those famous chefs, but my cooking is healthy and hygienic.”
Yan felt embarrassed while listening to Luo Huimei’s nagging. Usually, only restaurants that had not passed the health standard screening were unhygienic. However, five and six stars hotels or even the chefs whom Han Qing hired were all up-to-standard—in fact, they emphasized holistic health.
“Mom…” Yan interrupted Luo Huimei. “Let’s eat.” Then, she turned to Han Qing while commenting tentatively, “If you’re not used to it, we can—”
“Not at all.” Han Qing smiled faintly. “This is such a warm feeling. I haven’t experienced this in many years.”
Han Qing used to be alone and he was used to having meals alone as well. When he was in senior high, Han Qing had paid Lin Xuzheng’s home a visit. Lin Xuzheng’s home was similar to this. During festivities, there’d be a feast where everyone would surround the table while they chatted in a lively manner.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1313
But after the lively dinner, Han Qing was left with endless loneliness. Therefore, he was no longer willing to go home with Lin Xuzheng to celebrate the New Year after that. Upon returning home after the festivities, Han Qing was all alone in that large and cold house.
There were servants, but he did not have his family with him. He was afraid that he might not be able to withstand the loneliness after visiting Lin Xuzheng’s family often. Hence, Han Qing chose to endure everything in silence, but he never allowed others to know what he experienced—nor did he reveal what he truly wanted deep down in his heart.
Yan didn’t know much about Han Qing’s past, but she noticed a trace of loneliness flashed across his eyes when he said that. However, a mixture of emotions covered the flash of loneliness swiftly. She couldn’t see it anymore and searched for it in panic, but it was long gone.
“Why are you staring at me? Eat up.” Han Qing reached over the table to hold her palm before squeezing her gently.
Yan blushed immediately when Han Qing did that in front of her parents. Therefore, she stopped staring at him. Instead, she kept her head bowed to eat her food. Mr. and Mrs. Zhou, who were sitting across them, couldn’t help but smile faintly when they saw the interaction between the couple.
In the beginning, everyone seemed awkward during dinner, but soon, they started chatting animatedly. Mr. Zhou started chatting about work with Han Qing and it moved on to some topics related to a certain industry. Han Qing maintained a good attitude, and toward the end, Mr. Zhou was in such a good mood that he wanted a drink of liquor. However, after Mr. Zhou’s injuries from his last car accident, he had tried to be in good health. Hence, Luo Huimei glared at him viciously when she heard that he wanted to have some alcohol. “Aren’t you planning to focus on health? Why are you drinking alcohol if you are focusing on health?”
Mr. Zhou slapped his thigh immediately as he commented, “Well, isn’t Han Qing here for a visit? I am glad and that is why I’d like to have a drink with him.”
Initially, Luo Huimei did not agree to it, but she figured it was such a rare chance for Han Qing to drop by. He’s drinking today after such a long time. I suppose it’s fine. Hence, she agreed.
Yan had no choice but to fetch the liquor for Mr. Zhou since he was in such a good mood. Then, she advised him, “Dad, you can be in high spirits, but you shouldn’t have too much to drink.”
“Go on, just leave me alone. Why are you trying to control me, little girl?”
Yan returned to her seat beside Han Qing while speaking to him in a hushed tone, “My dad used to enjoy drinking. You shouldn’t drink too much later too.” What would I do if he gets drunk after drinking too much? How would he return home?
“Okay,” Han Qing mumbled an acknowledgement. His large hand reached for Yan’s hand under the table to grip her tightly. She blushed slightly while trying to pull her hand away. However, Han Qing tightened his grip and she failed to yank her hand from him. Yan didn’t dare to move too much since her parents were sitting just across the table. She gave up after trying several times to release her hand from Han Qing’s grasp.
After that, the two men started to drink liquor. Luo Huimei was worried about Mr. Zhou’s well-being, so she got up to prepare some soup in the kitchen when he was still drinking. She wanted to have the soup ready when they were both drunk from the alcohol.
In the beginning, Mr. Zhou claimed that they’d have very little to drink. However, both of them never stopped once they started drinking. In fact, the more they drank, the louder they became. In all honesty, most friendships between men were simple enough—no matter what the grudge was, they’d end up as friends over some liquor or they’d simply let their guard down.
Mr. Zhou was a simple man in that sense. Previously, he felt that Han Qing was not reliable because he was prejudiced about the latter’s identity. However, now that Han Qing was willing to have a chat with Mr. Zhou over some alcohol, the old man’s prejudice toward the former lessened significantly. In fact, Mr. Zhou insisted on chatting with him. “Qing…”
Yan, who was sitting beside, felt awkward straight away when she heard that. “Dad…”
“That’s fine.” Han Qing squeezed her palm while giving her a reassuring gaze.
After that, Luo Huimei walked out of the kitchen to call for Yan. Yan had no choice but to leave, so Han Qing released her hand. Yan then jogged into the kitchen. “Mom, what is it?”
“Can your boyfriend, Han Qing, hold his liquor? Do you think he can handle it? Once he gets in the mood of drinking, your dad will become out of control. What if…”
Can Han Qing hold his liquor? Yan was troubled when she heard that. Han Qing can definitely hold his liquor. Previously, before I got together with Han Qing, I attended a banquet on behalf of Han Muzi with him. I forced myself to drink and in the end, I was drunk, but when I regained my memories the next day, I recalled he was barely affected because he was steady on his feet. In the end, he brought me home, and… Yan was too shy to continue recalling what happened after that because it was embarrassing. Besides, he hurt her with his words the next day. She still felt a stab in her heart even when she recalled what he previously said.
“What is it?” Luo Huimei waved a hand in front of Yan’s face. Snapping back to reality, she realized that Luo Huimei was staring at her. Hence, she shook her head hastily. “Nothing, I was just remembering the past. Mom, Han Qing can hold his liquor well, but I think it’s best not to let them drink too much.”
“That’s going to be a problem.” Luo Huimei looked worried when she heard that. “Your father loves his alcohol and I’m sure he’ll force Han Qing to drink with him throughout the night if the latter can hold his liquor. I should have stopped them if I had known.”
“Mom, didn’t you try stopping him earlier? Dad is in high spirits. Forget it. I think it should be fine since it’s just a night.” Yan was worried. When it involves drinking, I know it’s detrimental to one’s health in excess, but if it’s just one night, it can’t be that bad, can it? Besides, tonight is rather special. Therefore, she was not keen on stopping them.
“Forget it. Let’s just forget it. We should let them drink if that’s what they want. However, I’m sure your boyfriend needs to go to work tomorrow. You might want to advise him later to pretend to be drunk. If your dad sees him drunk, I’m sure he wouldn’t continue drinking.”
“Okay. Got it, Mom.”
When both mother and daughter walked out of the kitchen, they both carried a bowl of hangover-cure soup each. Mr. Zhou scowled unhappily when he got a whiff of the medicine and scrunched up his nose. “Hey, what are you doing? We are still drinking. We barely started. Why are you preparing the hangover-cure soup?” The statement might have sounded reproachful, but Mr. Zhou’s tone and gaze were filled with helplessness—in fact, he did not appear critical at all.
“What? Am I not allowed to prepare this earlier for you? Should I prepare this after you have collapsed from being drunk?” Luo Huimei retorted while glaring at Mr. Zhou.
Mr. Zhou was rendered speechless by her reaction. “Do you hear yourself, woman? How could I possibly collapse from drinking? Everyone here knows that I can hold my liquor well!”
Yan brought the bowl of hangover-cure soup to Han Qing before sitting beside him. Just when Mr. Zhou and Luo Huimei were bickering, she whispered near Han Qing’s ear, “My dad loves his liquor and he is competitive as well. He won’t stop drinking unless you collapse.”
Han Qing flashed Yan a faint smile when he heard that. Then, he gazed at her reassuringly while patting her hand under the table for reassurance.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1314
Upon meeting Han Qing’s eyes, Yan knew that he understood her. Coincidentally, Mr. Zhou came back to his senses. “Little girl, what are you whispering at Qing? Come, Qing, let’s continue drinking.”
“Sure, Uncle.” Han Qing raised the glass and clinked it with Mr. Zhou.
One glass, the second glass, and the third one… Yan panicked slightly while observing them because time was ticking, but the two of them didn’t look as though they were about to stop. I already made it clear to Han Qing. Didn’t he understand what I meant? That’s impossible. With his intelligence, he would have guessed what’s happening without me spelling things out for him. In that case, what is the reason he’s doing this?
Just when Yan was about to say something, Han Qing appeared slightly drunk. However, he placed his glass on the table steadily. After that, he flashed an apologetic smile at Mr. Zhou. “I’m sorry, Uncle. I don’t think I can go on.”
Mr. Zhou was delighted when he heard that. He smacked his thighs while exclaiming, “Qing, are you already drunk? You can’t hold your liquor, I see! We barely drank!”
Luo Huimei, who was eavesdropping on their conversation, pinched Mr. Zhou discreetly. He knew what she meant, but he was delighted. “Are you sure you can’t have more? I’m just warming up and I’d love to have more!”
In all honesty, Mr. Zhou was nearing his limit. He knew that he should not have too much to drink, but after things started, as long as Han Qing was still willing to drink, Mr. Zhou would be too proud to stop drinking himself. Hence, Mr. Zhou was adamant on enduring it while maintaining appearances. If Han Qing collapses first, I’d have my pride intact and I can stop drinking. I’d have the best of both worlds. Therefore, to keep up his appearance, Mr. Zhou urged Han Qing to drink with him, but he had different thoughts in his mind. Please collapse now. I don’t have to drink more if you collapse first.
On the other hand, Han Qing never disappointed Mr. Zhou, for he supported his forehead with his hand while apologizing to the old man, “I’m sorry, Uncle. I honestly can’t take it anymore.”
Mr. Zhou answered him, “That won’t do. We barely started, Qing. You—”
“That’s enough from you.” Luo Huimei pinched Mr. Zhou again. She increased her strength this time while glaring vehemently at Mr. Zhou. “Can you please have the grace of an elderly? Qing already said that he can’t take it anymore. Why are you forcing him to drink?” she complained.
“Cough. Cough…” Mr. Zhou cleared his throat while waving his hand. “Fine. Since Qing can’t take it anymore, we will stop drinking. Yan, get your boyfriend to have some hangover-cure soup. After that, take him to rest.”
Yan let out a sigh of relief when she heard that and brought the hangover-cure soup to Han Qing immediately. “Have some first. I’ll help you later when you need some rest.”
Han Qing took several gulps of the soup. Then, Yan helped him up to get some rest. Once they left, Mr. Zhou, who was keeping up his appearance, finally released the glass in his hand and slumped against the table weakly. He sighed, “Yan’s boyfriend… can hold his liquor well.”
Luo Huimei couldn’t help but roll her eyes when she heard that. She commented in disdain, “Well, that’s only natural because he is still young. What do you gain by drinking more than him? If it’s possible, he might end up as our future son-in-law!”
Mr. Zhou was motionless while lying on the table. “You don’t understand. I’m testing him,” he answered her.
“Testing him? What are you testing him for?”
“I’m testing his sincerity toward Yan.”
Luo Huimei was rendered speechless when she heard that. “Testing his sincerity? You are truly special to test a person’s sincerity through drinking.”
“Hmph! You don’t get it and I won’t explain it to you!” Mr. Zhou, who was slightly drunk now, started to throw a tantrum. Luo Huimei felt helpless, so she had no choice but to coax him into drinking the hangover-cure soup. However, Mr. Zhou commented unexpectedly, “Why would anyone drink this? I can hold my liquor well. I don’t need this. Take this away! I won’t drink this!”
“Are you not drinking this? I put in a lot of effort to prepare this hangover-cure soup. I’ll beat you up if you dare to refuse to drink the soup.”
Mr. Zhou was at a loss for words by her reaction.
On the other side, Yan helped Han Qing into her room and felt her heart skip a beat upon entering her room and looking at her feminine bed. Why did I bring him into my room? We have a guest room in our house and I should have taken him to the guest room. Just when Yan was wondering whether she should bring Han Qing to the guest room, he already laid down on her bed with her help. She was rendered speechless when she saw that. Fine, I can’t go back anymore.
After lying down, Han Qing massaged his temples while his eyes were closed. He had a slight frown as though he was in a lot of pain.
“Are you alright?” Yan was feeling embarrassed earlier, but it vanished when she saw his current state. She sat by the bedside while regarding Han Qing anxiously. She thought of something suddenly and stood up abruptly. “Hang on.” Then, she ran into the bathroom to wet a towel before squeezing it dry and returning to the room to wipe Han Qing’s sweat away for him.
Han Qing had a lot to drink. In all honesty, he was able to hold his liquor, but he didn’t feel too good after drinking so much. He opened his eyes when he felt something cold against his forehead and looked up at the young lady wiping his forehead and cheeks with nervousness.
Seeing that he opened his eyes, Yan commented, “Why didn’t you listen to me? It would have been fine if you had admitted defeat earlier. Why must you drink so much? Do you feel horrible? Why don’t I prepare more hangover-soup for you?”
Han Qing held onto her hands right after that. “Don’t trouble yourself. I’m fine.” He pressed his thin lips together after replying to her. To be honest, I have my reasons not to admit defeat prematurely. We are both men, so I could tell that Mr. Zhou is testing me. It’s fine to admit defeat, but I can’t lose too early and I can’t surrender too late. That’s why I had to control the timing and my drinking well. I stopped just in time. Judging by Mr. Zhou’s gaze toward the end, I think I succeeded. However, I think it’s best not to tell the young lady about this.
Han Qing took the towel from Yan, yanking her hard. She leaned forward and he wrapped an arm around her to hug her tightly. Yan ended up lying directly against Han Qing’s body.
“Um…” What is he doing? Yan immediately tried to struggle. After all, this is my home and my parents are around. I didn’t even close the door after helping him into the room. What if Mom sees this if she gets worried and comes over to check on us? How embarrassing is that?
Just when Yan was shoving against Han Qing to release herself from his grip, he tightened his arm around her and pressed his chin lightly on her head while inhaling her sweet, feminine fragrance. “Stop moving. Let me hug you for a while.” His voice was husky, and it left a deep mark in Yan’s heart.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1315
After that, Yan stopped moving around. Instead, she leaned against Han Qing obediently because his voice sounded gravelly and tired, which might have been due to the large consumption of alcohol. She couldn’t help with anything right now, so she tried to be on the best behavior for him.
Soon, Yan felt his breathing becoming smooth and steady. She blinked several times while taking a guess. Is he asleep? That can’t be. I’m still lying on him. How can he fall asleep while hugging me? She waited for a while, and true enough, Han Qing’s breathing remained steady. It looks like he truly is fast asleep.
Yan was shocked when she heard a faint knock against the door, but she calmed down swiftly and shifted Han Qing’s arm around her gently before getting out of bed to head to the door.
Luo Huimei was waiting for her at the door. Initially, she wanted to enter the room straight away, but recalled that Yan and Han Qing were in a relationship after all. If I were to see something I shouldn’t, we would be embarrassed for the rest of our lives. Hence, Luo Huimei waited at the door for a moment and only knocked on the door after confirming that it was quiet in the room.
“Mom.” As Yan came out of the room, Luo Huimei couldn’t help but look over her shoulder into the room. “Where’s Han Qing?”
“He’s… asleep.” The corners of Yan’s lips twitched. After that, she explained, “He slept soon after entering the room.”
Asleep? Luo Huimei was surprised. How did he fall asleep so quickly? ”Didn’t you say that he can hold his liquor? Why is he fast asleep now? Is he drunk?”
“He must have had too much to drink. Furthermore, he has been swamped with work lately. I think he must be exhausted,” Yan came up with some excuses. In all honesty, she was just guessing. Handling the company alone had always been exhausting for Han Qing. Although he did not have to handle petty issues, the matters he had to attend to were taxing. Furthermore, there were times when the job was demanding and it would take a toll on his mental state. That was why he fell asleep quickly.
“I see, that’s true. It must be exhausting to run a company. In that case, will you have to help him if you were to marry him in the future?”
Yan blushed immediately at the sudden question. “Mom, that’s a long way to go. Who knows? We’ll talk about the future when it comes to that.” With that, Yan grabbed Luo Huimei’s arm and led her away from the room.
Luo Huimei commented unhappily, “Silly girl, why are you shy? He isn’t young anymore. Isn’t he planning to start a family? You two might not be together for a long time, but both of you must have marriage in mind, am I right? You should settle down and mull things over. Otherwise, what would you do if he ambushes you with a marriage proposal?”
Marriage proposal? Han Qing proposing to me? Yan just couldn’t imagine that scene—no matter how hard she tried to do so. How could such a cold and steady person propose to me on a bent knee? However… The same cold and steady person took the initiative and kissed me after we started our relationship. Besides, when we were on vacation abroad, his responses that night were very… Anyway, there was a vast difference from his usual calm and restrained exterior. Yan was too shy to continue with her messy thoughts, so she remarked, “Mom, please stop with the nonsense. I can handle it myself.”
“I can tell you are clueless. You avoid the topic each time I bring it up. Silly girl, you can’t be planning to toy with his feelings, can you? Are you planning to date without getting married?”
Yan was at a loss for words when she heard that. I’m speechless by what goes through her brain. How did she come to that conclusion?
“Huh? Did I guess correctly?”
“Mom, it’s impossible… I will never get involved with other men apart from him. In fact, I will never get married with anyone else,” Yan sincerely confessed.
“That’s fine. But, he isn’t getting any younger. It’s best that you two get married and have children soon.”
Yan was stunned to silence when she heard that and did not want to linger on this topic. Besides, Luo Huimei had a slight change in expression when she started talking about this topic, as if something important struck her. “By the way, previously…”
“Mom, I’m busy. I should check on him. I’ll return to my room now.” Then, Yan turned around to return into her room. She closed the room door behind her and leaned her back against the door while holding a hand over her chest. Luckily I escaped. Otherwise, Mom’s questioning would drive me up the wall.
Yan steadied her breathing before approaching the bed. She noticed that Han Qing was fast asleep and she knew that she wouldn’t be able to sleep in her own bed tonight. Why don’t I let him sleep in my room? I can stay overnight in the guest room. However, Yan was used to taking a shower at night before sleeping. She took a long nap in the afternoon, so she had yet to shower today. It’s embarrassing to shower here.
In the end, Yan took her clothes to shower in the guest room. After she got out of the shower, she returned to her bedroom to open her cabinet to get a quilt and pillow for the guest room. Just when she was busying herself, Luo Huimei appeared out of nowhere. She was leaning against the door frame while regarding Yan. “Wait, Yan, aren’t you two together? Why are you shifting to the guest room?”
Yan was dumbfounded when she heard that. I think my mom is a busybody. Why is she so concerned about my relationship? Besides, she’s so interested in such a sensitive and embarrassing issue. “Mom, it’s getting late. Aren’t you going to bed?”
“My daughter isn’t sleeping yet. I’m accompanying my daughter for a chat. Is that a problem?” Then, Luo Huimei walked into the room and sat on the bedside. “Look at yourself. The bed isn’t even well made. Is this how you make your bed? The bedcover will be in a mess once you shift in bed.” She nagged her daughter while making the bed properly—and even continued complaining for some time before finally leaving.
Yan let out a sigh of relief and got under the quilt to lie down in bed. However, she was wide awake since she had a long afternoon nap. Besides, she just couldn’t fall asleep since her mind was jumbled with thoughts. She tossed and turned on the bed. Then, she searched for the signs and symptoms of being pregnant on her phone until she fell asleep.
The next day, after Han Qing woke up from his sleep, he reached out to the bedside subconsciously to check the time on the alarm clock, but ended up grabbing a comb instead. He was astounded for a few moments before opening his eyes and he was greeted with a foreign ceiling. Yan had chosen blue as the theme for her room when it was renovated in the past. There were white stripes between the light blue color and the décor clearly indicated that the room belonged to a young lady.
A sweet feminine fragrance lingered in Han Qing’s nose because it was all around him from the quilt and pillow. Furthermore, he realized that the quilt he had on him was light blue in color with a cartoon theme. He paused for a while before his lips curled into a faint smile. That’s right. I recall now. I came to look for Yan yesterday. I drank some alcohol and spent the night here.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1316
Han Qing stayed still because it had been a long time since he felt so relaxed. I relaxed once I hugged her last night and I fell asleep soon after. I didn’t expect it to be the next morning when I’m finally up.
He lay in bed while taking in the young lady’s room. It is really a different environment from my current living situation. There aren’t many colors in my room. It has a simple style to the point where it looks boring. Most people prefer simple and elegant styles, but over time, it looks less lively and boring. Han Qing thought Yan’s room was a breath of fresh air with its energetic vibe when he observed her room. He felt as if his world of black and white was suddenly injected with color—it was as though the piece of dryland was infused with life. He lay down in silence while deep in his thoughts.
Yan, who was outside of the door, was in a dilemma because she was wide awake. However, she was hesitant on whether she should wake Han Qing up or not. It was already time to head off to work in the office. Nevertheless, she was worried that he did not have a good night’s sleep after drinking last night. Hence, she was concerned that he might develop a headache if she were to wake him up too early. I think I should let him sleep a while longer. After Yan decided on that, she turned around to head back to the guest room.
However, just when she was about to sit down, Luo Huimei’s voice rang loud. “Yan, it’s time to wake up!” Her loud and clear voice was accompanied with a series of knocking sounds against the door.
Yan’s expression changed slightly and she got out of the bed abruptly. She dashed out of the guest room and saw Luo Huimei standing in front of her room door, banging against the door while calling for Yan. Luo Huimei looked surprised when she saw Yan standing in front of her. “Yan? You’re awake? Where did you go?”
Yan hesitated when she spoke, “Mom…”
Yan looked embarrassed. Luo Huimei was stumped for a while as if something struck her. Then, she looked into the room because she usually woke her daughter up the first thing after getting out of bed. This was because Yan always took a long time to get out of bed, so it became their routine.
Therefore, Luo Huimei forgot that Han Qing was in Yan’s room. That was why Luo Huimei knocked on Yan’s room door and realized what she had done. Luo Huimei pulled her hand away swiftly as she smiled at Yan in embarrassment, pushing the latter to return to the guest room. “I didn’t do that on purpose. I’m used to waking you up on a daily basis, so I forgot that Han Qing stayed in your room last night.”
Just when the two of them chatted, Han Qing got out of bed after he heard Luo Huimei’s loud voice. He opened the room door, but realized that there was no one outside, so he cocked a brow in amusement. On the other side, Yan and Luo Huimei had finished chatting. Luo Huimei explained awkwardly when he came out, “Qing, you’re awake too? I forgot that you stayed here overnight. I thought Yan was in there. I must have woken you up, haven’t I? I’m so sorry!”
“It’s fine. I just woke up anyway. Good morning, Aunty.”
“Good morning. Go ahead and chat with Yan. I’ll prepare breakfast.”
“Thank you.”
Luo Huimei thought to herself while she walked to the kitchen, My daughter’s boyfriend has great etiquette. In fact, he is always so thoughtful and polite while chatting with his elders.
Yan pulled Han Qing into the room. Then, she took out a new toothbrush and cup from the cabinet for him. “You should wash up first. Are you still feeling unwell?”
Han Qing reached out to caress her head. “No, I slept soundly.”
Yan let out a sigh of relief when she heard that. “That’s great.”
After breakfast, Han Qing drove back to the company. His car was parked at the ground floor overnight. Hence, neighbors gathered around in front of Luo Huimei and her family to gossip once the car was gone.
“Huimei, who is that man driving off in that car? He looks tall and handsome. Is that Yan’s boyfriend?”
“I don’t recall your family having such a relative. It must be Yan’s boyfriend. Previously, Mrs. Zhang introduced such a bad man to Yan as a boyfriend. However, this man looks outstanding.”
“That’s right, Yan. How did you find such a rich boyfriend?”
The group of people started chatting one after another and speaking over each other. Luo Huimei and Yan were both stuck as they found the entire situation troublesome to deal with. However, Luo Huimei admitted anyway, “That’s right, he is Yan’s boyfriend. However, it’s not important whether he’s rich or not. The most important part is that his heart is in the right place and that he treats Yan well. Those are the most important things.”
“Yes, that’s right. What you say is true. The most important thing is his character. However, Yan’s boyfriend is truly rich. What is the brand of the car he’s driving?”
“Where is he working? What is his education background? Are his parents around? I’m telling you, Yan, it’s best to get a man whose parents are both dead. You wouldn’t have to suffer once you marry into their family.”
Yan was astounded when she heard that. Han Qing’s parents had passed away a long time ago, but Yan was very upset when she heard what her neighbor said. Before Yan lost her temper, her mother, Luo Huimei, scowled unhappily and stared at the person in disdain. “What are you saying? This is completely up to fate.”
“Hey, Huimei, what I said is true. Yan would be bullied if she marries into a wealthy family with both parents alive. I heard that mothers-in-law of rich families are more cunning these days. They can be quite a handful!”
“Yan is such a simple and honest girl. Don’t you think she’d be bullied after marrying into his family?”
In all honesty, these people had no malicious intentions, but their choices of words were horrible. They always said things that people wouldn’t necessarily want to hear. For example, Yan had not discussed marriage, but her neighbors already discussed whether her boyfriend’s parents were alive or dead. She was extremely uneasy about this because she did not enjoy gossiping about her boyfriend behind his back—she had zero tolerance when it came to this. Hence, she interrupted them, “Mrs. Lin, I don’t need you to be overly concerned about my love life. Why don’t you help your daughter-in-law raise her child if you’re so free? I can tell that it hasn’t been easy on her to work and raise her child while juggling house chores on a daily basis. In all honesty, if all mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law are able to fulfill their duties without sticking their noses into irrelevant issues, there won’t be any fights.”
The crowd were stunned into silence.
“What are you saying, little girl? We are just concerned about your marriage. Why are you losing your temper?”
Yan smiled faintly. “Ladies and gentlemen, there’s nothing to worry about. Please head home.” With that, she held onto Luo Huimei’s hand and marched forward. The crowd reprimanded her from behind.
“Does she think she’s that great? The Zhou Family’s daughter is now acting high and mighty. She’s being arrogant when she speaks too.”
“That’s right. She never speaks like that in the past. However, now… Well, humans change whenever money’s involved!”
Luo Huimei glanced at her daughter helplessly. “Why are you so angry?”
Yan pouted and she sounded furious. “Han Qing’s parents have passed away a long time ago.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1317
Startled by what she heard, Luo Huimei uttered, “All gone?”
“Yes.” Yan nodded to herself as she contemplated; although Han Qing never revealed to her, during those long times she had been living with Han Muzi, Han Qing had always been the sole member in the Han Family—until he located his sister. It was as if he had finally found his only blood relative, and he would grab every opportunity he had to visit her abroad.
She wondered—under what kind of environment did Han Qing grow up in that made him develop such a deep sense of longing for love and protection from his family? Even without reading Han Qing’s mind, Yan knew exactly what kind of miserable life he had led in the past.
All she could do now was to sincerely hope for a normal life for Han Qing with both parents alive and well, just like herself… How wonderful it was to live with family in harmony, to have meals together over festival celebrations, or even to share the burdens of life together? What about him? Through the years, he had been going through everything all by himself—even bearing the responsibility of searching for his sister.
Yan knew that she would not have been able to endure if it were her.
Upon hearing this, Luo Huimei’s heart was wrenched. “This kid… no wonder he had that strange look in his eyes at dinner last night. I was wondering why a man of his age would have such a look in his eyes…”
“He was probably thinking about his parents,” Yan whispered. “I always behave myself around the neighbors. But I can’t stand what they said about Han Qing now that he is my boyfriend. They have crossed the line.”
“Now that you have explained to me, I think I can understand it too. It’s alright. They are just neighbors. We either get along or we don’t. If they don’t respect us, we don’t have to keep it inside to please them.”
Yan glanced at Luo Huimei. “Mom, are you not mad at me? They will definitely talk behind my back for being so rude and put the blame on you as a parent.”
“Silly girl.” Luo Huimei tapped on Yan’s head affectionately. “Is the opinion of others important? You and your father are the only loved ones of my life, and nothing else matters to me,” she spoke gently.
“Mom, you are the best.” Yan wrapped her arms around her mother tightly. Both mother and daughter then went upstairs together.
Meanwhile, in Han Group. When Xu Yanwan came to work today as usual, she was stopped by several people in the office. One of them was the receptionist; the other few, however, she could not recognize them. Stunned, she looked at the people who held her pace.
“Is everything alright? It is working hours now.” Her voice was soft but her tone alarmed.
“Are you the fiancée of President Han as we had heard from the rumors?”
“Yes, yes, it’s her. She came to look for President Han before.” The receptionist nodded excitedly. “She told me herself when I asked her.”
Xu Yanwan frowned at what she heard.
“Really? Are you really President Han’s fiancée? Do you know that President Han has a girlfriend now?”
“Yes, his girlfriend comes to the office regularly.”
Xu Yanwan’s gaze lowered upon hearing the word ‘girlfriend’. Her voice was emotionless when she answered, “I’m not sure about that. It’s working hours now and I don’t think it’s appropriate for us to talk about this now. I need to work.”
“What are you afraid of? Just chat with us for a while. We won’t keep you for too long.”
“That’s right! Just tell us whether you are really President Han’s fiancée. Does he know that you are working here too?”
“How did President Han allow you to work in this department in the first place? Is it because he has a girlfriend now and that he doesn’t want to acknowledge you as his fiancée anymore? Is that why he had sent you here?”
“No.” Xu Yanwan pursed her red lips, scrutinizing the few people standing in front of her. “Han Qing is not this kind of person, although I’m the one who keeps him in the dark. As for your questions, I’m sorry but I don’t have an answer for you. It happened a long time ago while we were both young.”
The receptionist’s eyes lit up immediately. “Are you saying that you and President Han were childhood sweethearts? Oh my goodness, what sort of person was President Han before? Has he always been so cold and distant?”
“While you were both young? Why doesn’t it count anymore? Was it a deal between your parents?”
“How distressing it must be for you. Now that your fiancé has been stolen, how can you still work here peacefully?”
“Yes. If I were you, I would definitely teach the woman a lesson. She is having an affair with your fiancé. You have nothing to be afraid of!”
Amid their rambling voices, Xu Yanwan’s head started to ache and she felt suffocated. She had never expected that the receptionist would gather a crowd to ambush her.
“I have asked around about you and your name is Xu Yanwan, right? Have you considered teaching the mistress a lesson? We don’t like her as well. She looks ordinary and has no talent. How could President Han fall in love with her?”
“That’s right. She has nothing special, except for owning that shoddy noodle restaurant. All she does every day is sending food to President Han and nothing else. What a disgrace to all women. Miss Xu, I have read your resume and your qualifications are remarkable. You could easily beat the mistress within seconds.”
Xu Yanwan was left puzzled upon listening to all these remarks. Confused, she thought the word ‘mistress’ was misused. But… she was too exhausted to say anything. After a while, she composed herself and smiled. “I don’t understand what you are saying; and I do not intend to understand it as well. Everyone should decide for himself when it comes to his own relationship. If she can be President Han’s girlfriend, that’s her capability.”
“Her capability?”
“What capability does she have? With her qualifications, I don’t think President Han would fall for her.”
Xu Yanwan smiled awkwardly. “There must be a reason why President Han is attracted to her. She must have her own lovable attributes.” In fact, she herself was curious about the reason why Yan had attracted Han Qing, who was cold and stand-offish in the past. She never imagined that Han Qing would fall for herself when they were young. If only he could just listen to his family’s advice and marry her anyway, and even with the absence of love in their marriage, she would be content with Han Qing only showing his responsibility as a husband.
In Xu Yanwan’s eyes, someone as cold-hearted as Han Qing would never develop passionate feelings toward another woman. But now that he had chosen Yan as his girlfriend, she must be something else. However, she had no idea about the progress of their relationship. Was it because she cooked him lunch every day that Han Qing was so besotted and thought that he could spend the rest of his life with her? And that she was someone so loving with housewife material? But… the rumors had it that Yan was only interested in Han Qing’s wealth and reputation. She reckoned so. Otherwise, how could they be together with such disparity in their backgrounds?
“Lovable attributes? Does she have any?” Right at that moment, one of the girls seemed to be hit by an idea. “Maybe… she is particularly skilled at something else?” she sneered slyly.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1318
“Something else? What is it?”
The others did not immediately grasp the meaning behind those words.
“Sex, of course! I’ve heard that some women are skillful in that area in their attempts to seduce men, don’t you know? They might not be extraordinarily beautiful or they do have any particular special capabilities, but because of their skills in bed, they drive these men crazy.”
Upon hearing those comments, Xu Yanwan wanted to refute those allegations without a second thought. Her impression of Han Qing was totally different. He was never a shallow person who would fall head over heels in love with a woman from just her physical appearance, what more to be crazy about sex. Now, Xu Yanwan was even more baffled how Yan had attracted Han Qing.
“Oh my goodness, it all makes sense now. There are many in this office who have a crush on President Han. They either admire him secretly or at most just to create encounters with him and bump into him. But no one has ever tried using this dirty trick before. If it’s true that that woman had used this dirty trick to seduce our President Han, then perhaps…”
At that instant, the girls started to feel indignant as they fixed their gaze upon Xu Yanwan.
“You are after all President Han’s fiancée. Aren’t you going to do anything about it?”
“Yes, exactly. The mistress is so disgraceful; we must teach her a lesson.”
“Miss Xu, President Han is yours. You cannot just give away your fiancé without putting up a fight.”
Everyone was staring at her, but they failed to detect even the slightest hint of anger on Xu Yanwan’s face. Xu Yanwan’s expression did not change; she was even smiling gently. “Hey guys, it’s really time to get back to work now. I don’t think you should be discussing these.”
“Aren’t you angry at all? Your fiancé…”
Xu Yanwan sighed. “You do not have any proof from what you’ve just said. Why should I believe you? As for me, I just want to do my best at my job. And as for President Han, it all depends on fate. If he really likes that other person, then it’s out of my hands.” With that, Xu Yanwan nodded at them. “Okay, I need to be at work now. Excuse me, and you should get back to work too.”
After Xu Yanwan left, the rest of them remained at their place, blinking at each other in confusion.
“I’m so pissed! Is she really President Han’s fiancée? How could she remain so calm while her fiance was being snatched by somebody else?”
“Exactly. And she says that she wants to focus on her work now? Is she being serious?”
“I think she is classy. Maybe she thought what President Han and the mistress have is true love, so she decided to take a step back.”
“But if she found out that it wasn’t true love, would she…”
“The question is, how do we find out whether Yan has ulterior motives with dirty tricks under her sleeve in seducing our President Han?”
While they were gossiping, Xu Yanwan was already walking further away from them. After a distance, she stopped at her tracks and turned toward the bathroom. Having splashed some water on her face, she stared back at herself in the mirror. She was bare-faced without any make-up on. Unable to afford to buy any cosmetics now, she pondered how her old self as a delicate, elegant and high-class Young Lady of the Xu Family no longer existed. Compared with the other girls, there was no way she could stand a chance. She had nothing now.
Xu Yanwan also knew clearly that those colleagues were just a bunch of busybodies who were more interested in snooping around for more gossip. Did they genuinely want to help her? No, they were only jealous of the woman whom President Han was in love with now. Judging from their facial expressions with their tone of voice and mannerism, she could tell that they were frustrated when they heard about the ‘dirty trick’.
At this thought, Xu Yanwan smiled helplessly. She could guarantee that at that moment, they must have regretted not using the dirty trick on President Han first before the woman did. In that way, one of them could have been President Han’s girlfriend. Xu Yanwan was also certain that if she had been the girlfriend of President Han today, they would have treated her exactly the way they were treating Yan now. So, she decided that she would never associate with these people. Patting her cheeks in a self-consoling way, Xu Yanwan left the bathroom.
She was performing very well at work recently. Her superior also noticed her good work and was satisfied with her performance, even delegating her with a substantial amount of tasks. She then gave herself a mental note to strive harder and harder. She knew that her hard work would eventually pay off.
On the other side, Yan finally found some time to study the pregnancy test kit. For just a few moments, she managed to figure out how to use it. She recalled how previously she had spent an entire day cracking her head on how to go about this little equipment. She was probably too nervous that day. Ever since the incident which happened at her house when Han Qing came, Yan had found herself in a calmer mood. She patiently waited for the results.
As soon as she saw the test outcome, Yan was completely stunned. Still holding the pregnancy test in her hands, she was unable to react. A sudden quiet came over her and her surroundings, except for the sound of her heart, pumping loudly under her chest. Ta-thump! Ta-thump! She was really… pregnant. She couldn’t believe… that she was really pregnant!
Before she could comprehend the feeling creeping up on her, Yan felt her eyes were burning. With her fingers over her mouth, her tears came running down her cheeks. She was pregnant! She was having a baby! She was having a baby with the love of her life!
With tears of joy, Yan covered her face while she sobbed uncontrollably. She was just feeling nervous a moment ago. Now, it was all replaced with happiness, and all the negative emotions welled up inside her subsided. It was no wonder how people say that it was a blessing to be a mother. It was so true!
After staying for what seemed to be the longest time in the bathroom, Yan finally calmed herself down and returned to her room. Standing in front of the mirror, Yan could see her eyes were swollen from all the crying. She was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to break the news to Han Qing, but she was also skeptical about the accuracy of the results of a pregnancy test kit. So, she decided to go to hospital to have another checkup before announcing the results to anyone.
Even if the test results did come out positive, she doubted that she would tell Han Qing right away. She was afraid that once she told him about the pregnancy, he would feel pressured to marry her. As much as she wanted to marry Han Qing, she also wanted to be more cautious now—since it was her who took the first move in pursuing him and had her heart broken before.
The boldness she displayed at first had now shrunk into cowardice, resulting in her hesitating to take the next move… At last, she took up her phone and texted Han Muzi. ‘Muzi, are you free today? Can you accompany me to the hospital?’
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1319
At the hospital, Yan was waiting at the entrance when Han Muzi arrived. Han Muzi was not alone; Ye Moxuan was following behind her with Little Sprout in his arms.
Seeing this, Yan winced and pulled Han Muzi aside. “I really want to give Little Sprout a hug but I don’t think she should be coming along. It’s full of germs in the hospital. She is healthy now. I don’t think she should come.”
Han Muzi gave a thought to what Yan said and agreed with her. Turning to face Ye Moxuan, she said, “You go back to the car with Little Sprout first.”
Ye Moxuan was perplexed.
“What? Do you want to bring your daughter into the hospital?”
He replied matter-of-factly, “The chauffeur can look after her for a while.”
Han Muzi stared at him. “This is your daughter and you want to pass her to the chauffeur? What if the chauffeur abducts her?” In fact, the chauffeurs hired by the Ye Family were trustworthy—she was just messing with her husband.
Standing beside them, the chauffeur’s face started to flush. He quickly defended himself, “Young Lady Ye, I’m not this kind of person and I would never do this sort of thing. I swear to this, putting my character and dignity on the line.” This was a serious matter if the lady of the house suspected that he might abduct their kid. The chauffeur was panicking.
Han Muzi wanted to laugh. But Ye Moxuan had become alarmed now, staring at the chauffeur warily. The chauffeur quickly said, “Young Master Ye, I have been the chauffeur of the Ye Family for so many years and I would never do this. I have my own family to feed too. I would be crazy to even think of doing this!”
“Alright, relax. I was just pulling your leg.” Han Muzi gently tapped on the chauffeur’s shoulder. “I was only joking because I trust you! Don’t be stressed.”
Upon hearing her assurance, the chauffeur almost cried out with joy. “Really? You never suspected me?”
“Never.”
However, Ye Moxuan’s face darkened as he was holding Little Sprout in his arms. Han Muzi extended her hands and pinched Little Sprout’s cheeks. “Good girl, stay with Daddy outside here for a while. I will meet you and Daddy after I accompany Auntie Yan to the hospital.”
Little Sprout giggled innocently. Scowling, Ye Moxuan gave Yan a sidelong look, who quickly avoided his glance as she straightened her back. She wasn’t trying to steal his wife, but was only borrowing some of her time to accompany her to the hospital. What was the big deal anyway? Hmph! She was not afraid of him.
It was only after Han Muzi and Yan had walked a distance away from Ye Moxuan that the piercing stares from him diminished out of sight. Astonished, Yan covered her mouth. “Oh my goodness, what’s wrong? Why is Young Master Ye acting like a child, always following you everywhere? Now even to the hospital?”
Han Muzi felt helpless upon hearing those questions. “I have no idea either. Since he regained his memories, he has become very clingy, as if worried that I would just vanish out of thin air.” But it was him who disappeared the last time. I should be the one worrying, Han Muzi thought. Instead, he grew so attached to the both of them nowadays; either with Little Sprout or herself. If she wasn’t aware of his past working capabilities before, she would have presumed that Ye Moxuan was a good-for-nothing man and only wanted to live off her.
But Han Muzi did not mind at all. She was capable of being the sole breadwinner of the family if Ye Moxuan really wanted to depend on her. Although her income now was nothing compared to the earnings gained by Ye Group, it was still more than enough for her to feed him and the two children. Looking back, Han Muzi felt a stream of relief. She recalled the days she spent together with Lin Jiang, when she only hoped to live an ordinary and plain life. However, time and unforeseen circumstances overtook them all. Life was always full of surprises anyway.
“Oh right, why did you want to visit the hospital? Is everything alright?” asked Han Muzi, pulling herself back to reality.
Taken aback by the sudden question, Yan’s pale face immediately turned blushed pink. “Erm… I need to tell you something. But you have to promise me, you will not tell anyone else.”
“What is it? Tell me.”
“You have to promise me first—keep this only to the two of us.” Yan stopped in her tracks with a solemn look in her eyes. “Can you promise me?”
Speechless, Han Muzi was even more curious now. “What’s with the mystery? What are you hiding? What brings you to the hospital?”
“You have to promise me first! Muzi, are we still the best of friends?” Yan couldn’t hold her anxiety any longer. Shaking Han Muzi’s shoulders forcefully, she prodded, “Quick, promise me first!”
“Alright, alright. I promise you!” Han Muzi finally agreed, feeling giddy.
With that, Yan let out a sigh of relief. She looked around—making sure that Ye Moxuan did not follow them from behind—and brought her face close to Han Muzi’s ears as she whispered to her. She pulled away once she finished her story.
With a bewildered look upon her face, Han Muzi uttered, “Why are you being so discreet? Your voice was so faint that I could barely hear what you were saying, not to mention we have all the noises from the people around us. How could I hear you?”
“What? You didn’t hear what I said?” Yan grimaced. Hesitating, she finally gathered her courage and stammered, “I think… I think I’m pregnant…”
Han Muzi was shocked. What? She didn’t react immediately but after realizing what she had heard, her eyes widened. “Pregnant?”
Yan leapt forward and covered her mouth. “Shh! Keep your voice down. I’m not too sure myself; I’m just guessing! So I wanted to verify this by coming to the hospital.”
Han Muzi just blinked as Yan let go of her hands and said, “I took the test with a pregnancy test kit, but I’m not sure whether the result was accurate…”
“That was why you didn’t want to come to the hospital alone? And you called me along because you are keeping this by yourself and you are too afraid to tell my brother, right?” Han Muzi knew Yan too well. She could read Yan’s mind like a book after hearing about the secret.
“You are right. It’s not that I want to keep it from you, but I’m just afraid that this whole thing is only a false alarm…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Han Muzi held her hands, and she felt comfort from the warmth pulsating through the skin of Han Muzi’s palms. “What nonsense are you thinking about? The pregnancy test kit is generally accurate, especially during the early stage. So what if this was a false alarm? You and my brother are getting married sooner or later. Getting pregnant will only be a matter of time. What are you worried about?”
With that, Yan blushed. “I-I can’t say for sure.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1320
“You guys have been together for so long. Why are you still lacking confidence in yourself?”
“I’m not lacking in confidence; I just don’t want to be egoistic like I was before and that I won’t be disappointed if things don’t work out. Now, I do everything while keeping in mind the worst scenario, so that there will be no more room for disappointment but only surprises.”
Upon hearing this, Han Muzi kept silent. She didn’t expect that Yan had toiled herself into such a state. After a long gaze at Yan, Han Muzi abruptly extended her arms before wrapping them around Yan’s shoulders. “Silly girl, you can love a person with all your heart and soul, but you should never lose yourself for loving him. Although Han Qing is my brother, I have to tell you these.
When it comes to relationships, you can’t be insignificant. Both of you are equal in a balanced equation, where you love him and he loves you back. But if he doesn’t love you as much as you love him, then stop loving him as much.” Otherwise, the one who gives the most would always end up being the one who got hurt the most, Han Muzi thought and deeply understood.
Every word of Han Muzi reached down and left its impact in Yan’s heart as she lightly patted Han Muzi’s shoulders, pretending to be relaxed. “Don’t worry, I will not lose myself. I only want to readjust my way of living and thoughts so that I can always remain hopeful. Just think, isn’t it better if things turn up for the better when I least expected it? On the other hand, if I keep my hopes high and then it fails, I will be so upset. But now, I won’t feel that way because I already embraced myself for the worst case scenario. So even if the worst comes my way, I won’t be too miserable…”
Han Muzi couldn’t help but feel that what she said also made sense. It sounded pathetic in a way, but there would be more surprises than disappointments indeed. Perhaps everyone had their own way of living and the choice of making decisions, and she shouldn’t interfere too much. With that in mind, Han Muzi uttered, “Alright, you know what you are doing. Let’s carry on with the checkup now.”
“Yes!” Yan nodded.
When the result was released, Yan was confirmed to be pregnant. Holding the report, Yan buried her face onto Han Muzi’s shoulders and almost broke out in tears.
“Congratulations to our dearest Yan! You are going to be a mother.”
Han Qing is going to be a father too, thought Yan. Still, she didn’t want to reveal the news to Han Qing yet. “Could you not tell your brother or anyone else about this for now?” Yan drew back as she attempted to discuss this matter over with Han Muzi.
“Huh? You didn’t want to tell him prior to this because you weren’t sure. But now that you are, what is holding you back?”
Embarrassed, Yan murmured, “I want to get myself ready before I tell him.”
Han Muzi could guess what she planned to do next. “Okay, I will just pretend that I know nothing about this. You’re right, it’s between you and him after all. It is not my place to meddle with this too much.”
“Okay.”
Yan went her own way as the both of them left the hospital. When Han Muzi got back into the car, Ye Moxuan’s expression was cold. “Is everything settled?”
Han Muzi grumbled and moved over to greet Little Sprout. “Little Sprout, Mommy is back.”
“What did she need you for?” Ye Moxuan was still struggling to get over what Yan had done to Han Muzi in previous years. And now, she even asked Han Muzi out, taking away the precious time that they could have spent together.
“It was nothing. She was just feeling unwell, so she asked me to accompany her for a body checkup.” Han Muzi was still playing with Little Sprout, her expression vibrant and lively.
Watching the happy and funny faces that Han Muzi was making with Little Sprout in front of him, Ye Moxuan’s anger and frustration from the long hours of waiting slowly subsided. “Why couldn’t she just go to the hospital by herself if she’s feeling unwell? She’s not a kid anymore who needs company. You are very busy now that you have a husband with children.”
Han Muzi stopped with her playful gestures and raised her head, looking at Ye Moxuan in astonishment. “Lately, I’ve noticed that you have been behaving rather strangely.”
Her bright eyes shone as though they could see through his eyes and reach his heart. Ye Moxuan pursed his lips and asked, “Really? Strange in what way?”
“You weren’t… so clingy with me before. But now, you are just inseparable with me, like you are afraid that I would disappear anytime. What’s going on?”
Ye Moxuan was dumbstruck by her question, but it was only because he was unprepared to answer her. Indeed, he was not like this with her before.
“I’ve noticed that since you have regained your memory, you have grown very attached to me. The situation got worse after I gave birth. What’s wrong? Why do you have to follow me so closely?” Han Muzi never had the chance to raise him this question before. Since the opportunity had presented itself, she might as well grab it now.
Ye Moxuan puckered his lips, falling deep in his thoughts. It had to be traced back to the time when he started to regain his memories. No one else had gone through his experience—from the plane crash to him falling into the wide open sea—and how traumatized and helpless he felt. On that very day, he was the bridegroom and his beloved woman was waiting for him on the altar to marry him. However, he failed to make it that day. Ye Moxuan could almost imagine how devastating it must be for Han Muzi having to face all of the relatives and reporters when he didn’t show up. Not to mention how terrifying it was for him at the thought of not being able to see her ever again. When flashes of memory came rushing back to him, they were like bits and pieces of recollections and emotions that lay scattered on the ocean, crushing him and leaving him powerless, drowning him no matter how hard he tried to stay afloat. Humans were so insignificantly small in the vast expanse and majesty of nature. These memories were like waves, one stronger than the other. He seemed to be able to cope in the beginning, but he always ended up feeling exhausted, and then completely being swallowed up.
Moreover, when Han Muzi gave birth to Little Sprout, Ye Moxuan had followed her into the delivery room where he witnessed her delivery with his very own eyes and saw how exhausted she was. As he gripped her hands tightly and looked at her pale face, he brought his mind back to the times he was lost at sea, being carried and splashed by the waves, draining every last ounce of his energy.
With that, Ye Moxuan’s mind slowly drifted back to reality. He caught Han Muzi’s gaze, looking at him with deep concern. “What happened to you?” She waved her hand before his eyes and asked, “Are you alright? Your expression tells me that you have just recalled something unpleasant.”
“I’m fine.” Ye Moxuan assured her as he didn’t want her to worry.
But Han Muzi didn’t believe him because his expression had clearly betrayed him while he was in deep thoughts. She well knew most of his memories, so when Ye Moxuan had that expression on his face, she could tell what it was all about.
