Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1491
At the makeup artist’s question, everyone looked at Jiang Xiaobai. She was so embarrassed she wanted to dig a hole and bury herself in it. Immediately, her makeup artist rushed toward her saying, “Come, I’ll touch it up for you.”
Jiang Xiaobai could only sigh internally. As she went backstage to prepare herself for the ceremony, she saw Han Qing tagging along with Yan to give her blessing. Jiang Xiaobai then had a short chat with them.
After they left, Xu Yifei leaned against Jiang Xiaobai and said bitterly, “That man looks so handsome. Too bad he already has a wife.”
Hearing that, Jiang Xiaobai was taken aback. “You mean Yan’s husband?”
“Who else would it be? Your husband?”
“D*mn you!” Jiang Xiaobai was dissatisfied. She immediately stood up for Xiao Su. “Since when did my husband lose to him? My husband is much more handsome than he is!”
Xu Yifei chuckled. “You may try writing your future scripts based on his characteristics. Who knows, maybe it might be a hit.”
Jiang Xiaobai sneered. “Don’t think that I will tolerate it just because you’re my editor. If you continue to talk about my husband in this way, the main character in my next work will be a bully.”
“Sounds good! Since it’s the current trend, why don’t you give me something like that?”
Jiang Xiaobai was done talking to her!
The wedding ceremony went smoothly. As the ceremony came to an end, Jiang Xiaobai was too tired to even move. The only thing she was happy about was that Xiao Su had drank all the wine on her behalf. Xiao Su knew that Jiang Xiaobai tended to lose it when she was drunk, and he was determined to not let that happen on an important day like this, hence his decision to drink on her behalf. However, this resulted in more guests coming to have a toast with Xiao Su to deliberately make things difficult for him. In the end, Xiao Su was so drunk that he couldn’t even walk properly. Even so, he had to continue drinking as long as the ceremony was still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the bridesmaids were looking after Jiang Xiaobai.
“To be honest, with your husband being that drunk, are you sure your wedding night will still happen?” That filthy remark came from her editor, Xu Yifei.
Fang Tangtang was smiling cunningly. “If he can’t make it, Jiang Xiaobai can handle it herself.”
Jiang Xiaobai couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Stop this nonsense. You guys can leave first if you want. I’m tired and would like to rest for a moment.” She woke up very early this morning, and was unbelievably exhausted by now.
In the face of her exhaustion, they decided to stop with the teasing and leave her alone. Once they left, Jiang Xiaobai did not even bother about tradition and headed straight to bed. She had changed into her wedding gown earlier that night, so she was currently sleeping in it. It was very uncomfortable, but she was so tired that she fell asleep the moment she closed her eyes.
After some time, she heard someone opening the door, followed by the sound of footsteps walking toward the bed. She felt the empty space next to her dip, and the smell of alcohol was so overwhelming that she couldn’t ignore it. When Jiang Xiaobai opened her eyes, she saw Xiao Su lying next to her. His eyes were shut, his face and ears as red as a tomato, and he seemed to be in agony.
Jiang Xiaobai was awake in an instant. She turned over and got up to check on him, only to realize that Xiao Su had been keeping his eyes shut, as if he was in pain. Did he have too much wine? Jiang Xiaobai reached out to pat his face. “Wake up.”
After multiple pats, Xiao Su finally opened his eyes. Jiang Xiaobai was taken aback by his bloodshot eyes. “What happened?”
Looking at her worried expression, Xiao Su tried to smile and reassured her. “Don’t worry, I’m fine. It’s just that I drank too much earlier. I’ll be better after resting for a bit.”
Jiang Xiaobai was still feeling drowsy. However, seeing him like this, sleep was the farthest thing from her mind. She got out of bed and started to prepare some soup, before taking a wet towel to clean his face.
Xiao Su was feeling really uncomfortable at the moment. Being drunk was completely different from drinking too much. Apart from having a headache, his body felt so heavy that he didn’t even want to move. Any little movement would upset his stomach.
As soon as Jiang Xiaobai finished wiping his face, she said gently, “Hold on for a second, I’m going to check on the brew.”
Xiao Su raised his head to see a tiny figure in a wedding dress. Jiang Xiaobai hadn’t changed out of her wedding dress yet, so she had no choice but to pick up her skirt in both hands while she ran.
Hearing someone approach, Xiao Su cracked open his eyes to see her holding a bowl in one hand and her skirt in another as she walked toward him clumsily. Silly girl.
“Drink this. I prepared a brew for you.”
Xiao Su sat up and finished the brew. He still felt a little queasy, but was much better than before. Just as Jiang Xiaobai was about to leave, Xiao Su grabbed her wrist to stop her. “Don’t leave. Stay with me.”
“Okay.” Jiang Xiaobai lay next to him and blinked, asking, “How much did you really drink?”
Hearing that, Xiao Su could only smile bitterly in his heart. The guests toasted like there was no tomorrow. Plus, he had to drink on behalf of his wife. It didn’t seem like a huge amount at first, but after adding them up, it really wasn’t something that he could handle.
“I shouldn’t have let you drink on my behalf.”
“Don’t be silly. If I didn’t drink on your behalf, you might have embarrassed yourself by creating a scene during the ceremony.”
Jiang Xiaobai pinched him and hissed, “It’s better if I were to create a scene. If I went berserk, those guests wouldn’t dare to toast to us anymore. I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable if I went crazy, but you seem so uncomfortable right now.”
Xiao Su tugged her into his arms and comforted her hoarsely, “I’m fine. It’s not that bad.” Although he kept assuring her he was fine, Xiao Su had been doing nothing else but lying on the bed ever since he entered the room. Oh, except for pulling her into his arms.
Jiang Xiaobai felt a little disappointed as she looked at Xiao Su who was too drunk to do anything. The wedding night was probably not going to happen. She pursed her lips sadly. Although she didn’t have much expectations for tonight, she had always imagined it would happen somehow, so she was feeling a bit disappointed now that it was never going to happen. However, looking at how Xiao Su was suffering because of her, she couldn’t complain.
The both of them just lay there quietly on the bed. It was extremely quiet compared to the hustle and bustle of the day. Especially with Jiang Xiaobai lying next to Xiao Su, she could even hear his heartbeat clearly. There was a big ‘happiness’ sign attached to the wall of their new house, and the lighting was dim.
As Jiang Xiaobai lay on the bed, she began to feel drowsy again. Just as she was about to fall asleep, she felt Xiao Su’s hand caressing her body. Jiang Xiaobai’s drowsiness vanished in an instant. She raised her eyes and looked at him, asking, “What are you doing?”
Xiao Su’s gaze darkened, clearly different from earlier. Although his voice was hoarse, it became clear as he said, “Tonight is our wedding night. I can’t let my wife down.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1492
Hearing those words coming out from Xiao Su’s mouth made Jiang Xiaobai’s heart race. Her face was flaming red as she pushed him away. “I know, but aren’t you feeling unwell?”
“Didn’t you feed me some soup to sober up?”
“Yes, but it wasn’t long since I fed you.”
“I’m feeling better already.”
“Don’t lie. How can you feel better so quickly?” Jiang Xiaobai interrupted him angrily. She chastised in a motherly tone, “I know it’s our wedding night, but since you’re not feeling well, I don’t want you to overexert yourself.” After saying that, Jiang Xiaobai got up and pulled the quilt over Xiao Su. She patted his cheeks and whispered, “Rest well.”
“Ah!” Xiao Su suddenly turned over and sat up, swooping to lift her in his arms. The move came out of nowhere, and Jiang Xiaobai’s reflex was to wrap her arms around Xiao Su’s neck. He then carried her all the way toward the bathroom. “Let me show you that I’m really feeling fine.”
Jiang Xiaobai had never thought that Xiao Su, who was still lying on the bed like a dead fish a while ago, could suddenly brim with energy. It might be the brew that she gave him, or maybe her words that had hurt his manly pride. Anyhow, Jiang Xiaobai had to pay dearly, for Xiao Su was only willing to let her go when it reached late midnight. She was so exhausted that she fell asleep without a care. She vaguely felt that someone was wiping her body with a hot towel extremely gently, and the warmth of the towel was just right. It made her fall into a deeper sleep.
By the time she woke up, it was already the next afternoon. She was too tired to even move her fingers, but she was feeling hungry. Her stomach was rumbling as she lay on the bed. She even started to feel a little dizzy. On top of being hungry, Jiang Xiaobai was also exhausted, so she just lay in bed with her eyelids half-closed. It went on until Xiao Su entered the room and heard her rumbling stomach. “You’re awake? Are you hungry?”
Jiang Xiaobai’s gaze changed as soon as she saw Xiao Su. She was glaring at him as if he was her enemy. It was all because of this b*stard that she was unable to get out of bed. As such, Jiang Xiaobai shut her eyes, ignoring his presence.
“I’ve made some porridge, would you like some?”
Hearing that, Jiang Xiaobai opened her eyes again and snorted. “Only if you feed me!”
Xiao Su turned and left the room. Jiang Xiaobai then took the opportunity to close her eyes and rest, until she smelled the fragrance of the food. She opened her eyes and eagerly watched Xiao Su approach her.
Xiao Su helped her to sit up and started to feed her. After only finishing half of the bowl, Jiang Xiaobai regained some strength and started to talk. “Did I wake up too late? Will Mom and Dad be mad at me?”
Hearing that, Xiao Su pursed his lips and blushed. “I don’t think so. After all, it’s under special circumstances.”
Jiang Xiaobai couldn’t help but pinch Xiao Su’s arm. “It’s all your fault. It wasn’t even our first time, why did you have to go so hard on me?”
Xiao Su covered his mouth and coughed lightly. It was because he could no longer hold himself back after looking at her in that beautiful wedding dress for the whole day. “Eat up.”
“Okay.”
Jiang Xiaobai was still feeling hungry after she had finished a bowl of porridge. Before Xiao Su was able to get up and refill it for her, she pulled his arm toward her and bit at it harshly. She deliberately bit him hard to make him pay for what she had to endure last night.
Without warning, Xiao Su placed the bowl on the chair next to him and threw her onto the bed. “Hey, what are you doing? Are you crazy?”
Xiao Su stared at her sternly, “You were trying to seduce me.”
“Was I?” Jiang Xiaobai rebuked. Her only intention was to take revenge against Xiao Su after what he did last night. She was afraid that she would injure him, so she didn’t bite him to the point where he was bleeding. She only wanted him to feel the pain. Was that even considered as seduction?
“You were.” Xiao Su insisted. He looked her right in the eye and said, “That was also considered as seduction. Now that we are legally married, you’d better not simply seduce me.”
Jiang Xiaobai was annoyed. “I’m already so tired; you might just tire me to death at this point!”
Although his words were harsh, Xiao Su felt bad seeing her so worn out that she didn’t even want to move. He helped her up whispering, “I was just teasing you. Do you want another bowl?”
“Sure!”
That day, Jiang Xiaobai ate an unprecedented three bowls of porridge. She proceeded to ask for another bowl, but was rejected by Xiao Su because he was worried that if she ate too much, it wouldn’t be good for her stomach. Jiang Xiaobai was so pissed that she ignored him. The worst thing was that Xiao Su even told her to get up and walk around because he thought that she had eaten too much.
Jiang Xiaobai was so annoyed with him. Didn’t you realize how much you’ve made me suffer? And now you’re asking me to go for a walk?
“I’m not going for a walk.” Jiang Xiaobai looked away. “I’m still hungry. I’m too weak to walk around.”
Xiao Su frowned. “Xiaobai, stop fooling around. You’ve eaten too much today.”
“Did I overeat? I was hungry. Besides, I only ate three bowls. It’ll be digested soon enough.” Jiang Xiaobai raised her eyebrows as she thought of an idea. She reached out her arms to Xiao Su. “I can go for a walk, but since my legs are tired, why don’t you carry me on your back?”
“You want a piggyback ride?”
“Yup.” Jiang Xiaobai nodded with a smile. “Didn’t you say that I should go for a walk to digest the food? But I don’t have the strength to walk. Wouldn’t it be the same if you carried me?”
Xiao Su was confused. “You want me to give you a piggyback ride to digest your food?” It was the first time Xiao Su had heard something so ridiculous. If he were to give Jiang Xiaobai a ride on his back, he would be the person who’d be using strength to walk around, and Jiang Xiaobai would just be changing her position from the bed onto his back. In actual fact, she would just be lying down somewhere else.
Xiao Su knew that she was still angry for what he did to her last night, so she was trying to be the devil’s advocate in order to punish him.
“Will you not agree? What about the letter of assurance we had yesterday? It’s just a small request, so what’s taking you so long?” Jiang Xiaobai raised her brows in an imposing manner.
Xiao Su obediently turned his back toward her. “Hop on. I’ll take you downstairs for a walk.”
Looking at his wide back, Jiang Xiaobai happily raised her brows and climbed onto it. Only then did she realize an embarrassing fact—she was still wearing Xiao Su’s shirt! Jiang Xiaobai immediately let go of him and went back onto the bed. “I don’t want to go anymore.”
Just the thought of having to change her clothes to go down for a walk made Jiang Xiaobai give up.
“What’s wrong?”
“Look at what I’m wearing. How can I go out like this? I don’t want to go out anymore; I want to sleep.” Jiang Xiaobai lay back on the bed and covered herself with the quilt.
Xiao Su could only stare at her helplessly.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1493
Later in the evening, Xiao Su’s parents—Liang Yahe and Xiao Mingzhi—came over for dinner. Liang Yahe even took the initiative to be the chef of the night, and bought a lot of ingredients.
When the elders were not around, Jiang Xiaobai could act freely in front of Xiao Su. After all, there was no one else except the two of them, and it didn’t matter how they behaved in front of each other. However, when the elders were present, they had to be well-behaved.
Before Liang Yahe arrived, Jiang Xiaobai was still happily lazing in bed. The moment she heard that they had arrived, she immediately got out of bed and walked toward the bathroom. After washing up, she quickly changed into a pair of fresh clothes and started to put on some light makeup to look presentable. While she was putting on makeup, Xiao Su stood next to her and stared. “They’re just my parents; is it necessary to put on makeup?”
Jiang Xiaobai looked at the mirror and focused while she drew her eyeliner. When she was done she glanced at Xiao Su and said, “Of course it’s necessary. I’m still the new wife who just married into your family. Some things need to be done presentably. A clueless man like you would never understand it.” Actually, Jiang Xiaobai put on makeup mainly because she herself wanted to. She didn’t do it to please Xiao Su’s parents. After all, they treated her really well, and it was not much of an effort to put on some makeup and make herself presentable.
Finishing up her makeup, Jiang Xiaobai started to go through her closet to find a suitable outfit to wear. She ended up choosing a dress that Liang Yahe gifted her. Jiang Xiaobai then went to the kitchen to help Liang Yahe with the food preparation. “Mom.”
Liang Yahe turned to meet Jiang Xiaobai with her heart full of joy, particularly when she heard Jiang Xiaobai address her as ‘Mom’. She was so happy that she grinned from ear to ear.
“Xiaobai? I heard from Xiao Su that you were still in bed, so why are you awake now? If you’re tired, you can rest for a little longer. You can wake up to eat later when I’m done with the cooking.”
Hearing that, Jiang Xiaobai’s lips twitched. How could Xiao Su tell his mother that I was still sleeping? It’s such a delicate matter between young couples! She would definitely know what happened. It would make everyone feel extremely awkward if she ever brought up the topic. This moment right here was a great example. So, Jiang Xiaobai had no choice but to switch the topic. “Mom, what are you preparing for tonight’s dinner? Let me help you.”
She immediately rolled up her sleeves, but was stopped by Liang Yahe. “It’s okay. Tonight, this kitchen belongs to me. Go and take a rest. When I’m done, Xiao Su will let you know.”
“Mom, how can you say that? I’m your daughter-in-law, not some royalty that Xiao Su married. We should complete the chores together.”
“Who says you’re not?” Liang Yahe’s expression changed as she heard Jiang Xiaobai’s words. “Was it Xiao Su that forced you to help me in the kitchen? If it’s him, I’ll teach him a lesson later. Is this kid trying to be rebellious? A wife definitely has to be pampered by her husband! ”
At first Jiang Xiaobai thought Liang Yahe was just joking around, but when she saw Liang Yahe rolling up her sleeves and leaving the kitchen angrily as if she’s about to beat her son up, she knew the woman meant what she said. “Mom, wait!” Jiang Xiaobai reached out to stop her. “This has nothing to do with Xiao Su. I’m the one who wanted to help you, not because he told me to do so.”
Hearing that, Liang Yahe squinted at her. “Are you serious?”
“Yes, Mom. I just thought that as the younger generation, I should be helping the elders. It has nothing to do with Xiao Su.”
“No, it’s fine!” Liang Yahe waved her hand about. “Although you are now my daughter-in-law, please don’t feel pressured to help me. I’m not like the other mother-in-laws; I will treat you and pamper you as my own daughter, so just do whatever you like.”
“But what I want to do now is to help you prepare dinner. If we prepare it together, we can speed up the process too!” As Jiang Xiaobai said that, she even clinged on to Liang Yahe’s arm affectionately. Liang Yahe ended up giving in and they both returned to the kitchen happily, just like any other mother and daughter.
When dinner was served, the whole family sat together to have dinner. Liang Yahe prepared many gifts for Jiang Xiaobai, even giving her a red envelope. Jiang Xiaobai had already received so many gifts on her wedding day and she really didn’t expect Liang Yahe to pamper her so much. Feeling blessed, she hugged Liang Yahe and said, “Thank you, Mom. You’re so kind to me.”
Liang Yahe sniffled, and her eyes became watery. She patted Jiang Xiaobai’s shoulder, saying, “From now on, we shall be a family. You don’t have to be so awkward around us. Xiao Su is our only son, so if there’s anything that you need in the future, just let us know and we will try our best to make you happy. Xiao Su, you better treat Xiaobai well. If I ever find out that you mistreated her, your dad and I will not forgive you.”
On the other hand, Xiao Mingzhi seemed much calmer compared to Liang Yahe. He looked at Jiang Xiaobai kindly and reassured her. “My child, if you have anything in mind, feel free to let me know.”
“Thank you, Dad, Mom.”
“Oh, I almost forgot,” Liang Yahe mentioned urgently. “Now that you both are legally married, it’s time to start preparing for a pregnancy. Xiaobai, when do you plan to have a baby? ”
Jiang Xiaobai was taken aback by her words. She smiled helplessly in her heart. Sure enough, I can never escape the issue that each married couple has to face—starting a family. She gave an awkward smile and explained. “Mom, Xiao Su and I are still new to married life. We’re still young, so there’s no need to rush.”
“Young?” Liang Yahe glanced at Xiao Su and pouted. “He’s going to become an elderly man soon—he’s no longer young! You’re right though. You’re still young, so there’s no need to rush. Xiaobai, do know that I’m not pressuring you.”
“I know, Mom. Don’t worry about it, we will just take things naturally.”
Although Liang Yahe said she didn’t mean to rush them, she was secretly hoping to get a grandchild soon. However, it was only a thought she had in mind, and since she mentioned it once, she won’t say anything more.
“Come, let’s dig in. Remember to eat more.”
The porridge that Jiang Xiaobai ate had already been digested long ago, so she had planned to eat more during dinner. However, Liang Yahe kept refilling Jiang Xiaobai’s plate throughout dinner, and she ended up overeating and feeling bloated.
Liang Yahe seemed to be worried that Jiang Xiaobai might still be hungry, so she kept shoving food onto Jiang Xiaobai’s plate. In the end, Jiang Xiaobai had no choice but to throw glances at Xiao Su to ask for help.
“Mom.” Xiao Su immediately understood Jiang Xiaobai’s plea and reached out to take over her plate as he said gently, “Xiaobai is really stuffed, she shouldn’t overeat or else her stomach will feel unwell later.”
Realizing that, Liang Yahe smiled awkwardly at Jiang Xiaobai. “Xiaobai, you’re full already? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Mom…”
“It’s alright. Why are you being so shy around us? Am I a stranger to you? Didn’t I tell you earlier to just think of me as your own mother, and feel free to tell me anything you want. I will spoil you like you’re my own child.”
“Okay, I will remember that! I’ll be honest with you in future.”
The family of four finished their dinner happily.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1494
Three days later, Xiao Su brought Jiang Xiaobai back to visit her family. After staying for a day, they went abroad for their honeymoon. For their honeymoon, they did not sign up for group tours. Instead, they opted for a free and easy holiday. Taking Jiang Xiaobai’s easy-going attitude into consideration, Xiao Su bought one-way tickets after much thought. He did not buy any return tickets as he intended to travel with her to her heart’s desire.
Although they were on their honeymoon, Jiang Xiaobai diligently packed her laptop and notebook. When they were done packing, Xiao Su looked at her sideways and asked, “Why are you bringing all of these with you?”
Jiang Xiaobai explained, “These are my life. I have to bring them along.”
“Even if you take them with you, will you have time to use them?” Seeing that she was still bent over working away tirelessly, Xiao Su reached out and grasped her collar before pulling her gently to his side. “Please don’t work now. We’ve just arrived; let’s familiarize ourselves with this place first. Besides, you haven’t eaten anything on the plane just now. Aren’t you hungry?”
In a rush to unpack her own luggage, it was only then that Jiang Xiaobai realized she really was hungry. “Okay.” She put her things away for the time being.
Jiang Xiaobai then put on a camisole dress that she pulled out from her luggage. Because the weather was chilly in their own country and Jiang Xiaobai liked places with warm weather, in the end, the both of them decided to go to Thailand for their honeymoon.
Seeing how she was not working away on her laptop now, Xiao Su breathed a sigh of relief. But as soon as he saw her wearing the camisole dress, he became angry again. He immediately stood in her path. “Are you planning to go out dressed like this?”
Jiang Xiaobai nodded her head. “Is something wrong?” Is there anything wrong with it?
Upon hearing that, Xiao Su frowned. When she went to the bar back then, all she wore was a loose T-shirt and a pair of baggy pants. She didn’t look feminine at all, so why is she putting on a dress now? To top it off, a camisole dress that reveals huge parts of her snowy white skin. The hem of the dress doesn’t even reach her knees! This was totally unacceptable for Xiao Su. “No, you can’t go out dressed like this.”
“Why not?” Jiang Xiaobai widened her eyes in disbelief. “Don’t tell me you’re disagreeing with me just because what I’m wearing is too revealing?”
Jiang Xiaobai was spot on, but Xiao Su was unwilling to admit it. As his ears flushed red, he only managed to say, “No, I’m not. It’s just that the sun here is blazing hot. What if you get sunburned while wearing this dress?”
“Oh.” Looking indifferent, Jiang Xiaobai took out her sunscreen and proceeded to apply it all over her body. She assured Xiao Su while doing so, “Don’t worry, I have sunscreen. It’ll protect me from the sun.”
Xiao Su was speechless for a moment. He thought Jiang Xiaobai would at least take notice of it and change into something with longer sleeves. He was baffled when she took out her sunscreen instead.
Seeing his expression, Jiang Xiaobai took out the sunscreen and waved in front of him. “Don’t you know what this is?”
Xiao Su reached out and took it from her hands. Glancing at it, he kept it in his pocket. “I know. Even though you’re wearing sunscreen, the heat here is different from home. I think it’s best you wear sun protective clothing.” And with that, regardless of whether Jiang Xiaobai agreed or not, he took out a sun protective jacket and prepared to put it on Jiang Xiaobai.
“Tell me the truth. Are you afraid that if I go out dressed like this, people would look at me and you’d get jealous?”
Upon hearing this, his ears turned slightly red. “No.”
“You’re still not admitting it?” Jiang Xiaobai sneered. “Fine, since you’re not going to admit it, then I won’t wear it!”
Jiang Xiaobai turned around and walked straight out, leaving Xiao Su’s expression ice-cold. Just as she was about to leave, he clasped onto her wrist and pulled her back. “Alright, stop it. You’re right, I don’t want others to see you dressed like this.”
“What age do we live in? Most girls are dressed this way. Besides, I think it’s way too hot here. What if I get a heatstroke from wearing too much? I didn’t dress this way just for show, you know. Plus, I’m not revealing anything. I’ve covered all the parts that should be covered.”
Although she wasn’t wrong, when Xiao Su’s gaze fell on Jiang Xiaobai, all he could see was large expanses of her snow-white skin. She was already fair to begin with, and compared to the locals, her skin was even fairer. If she went out dressed like this, God knows how much attention she’d attract. Or perhaps it might just be him overthinking. Nevertheless, he disliked the prospect. “Even so, you can’t go out dressed like this.” Xiao Su pursed his lips as he gazed deeply at her. “When we first met, your style of dressing wasn’t like this. Why has it changed so much?”
“What style of dressing?” Jiang Xiaobai couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. “Since when did I have a dressing style? I’ll wear anything that’s comfortable for me. But of course, I pay extra attention for important occasions. Now, come on, let’s go!” Jiang Xiaobai clutched onto Xiao Su’s arm while trying to drag him out. But Xiao Su stood still, his face livid, saying, “I’m not going anymore.”
“Huh?” Before Jiang Xiaobai had the chance to ask, she was carried and thrown onto the soft large bed, with Xiao Su’s body pressing down on her.
“Since you’re dressed like this, let’s not go anywhere. We’ll stay here and do something else.” Without giving Jiang Xiaobai a chance to react, Xiao Su sealed her lips quickly with his.
It was too late for Jiang Xiaobai to protest. Her eyes opened wide, and just as she was about to say something, she felt her dress being lifted. “Ah! Stop right there, Xiao Su! I want to go out. Can’t you just let me change my clothes? I’m not wearing this dress anymore. Wait!”
The two of them were like dry wood and raging fire. They were fine the moment before, but once their lips touched, how could Xiao Su let her escape?
“Too late, you just lost your chance.”
“Xiao Su, you b*stard!”
And so, the newlywed spent their first day in Thailand at the hotel.
As evening approached, Jiang Xiaobai did not feel like going downstairs to eat. Even though there was a buffet at the hotel, she would still have to go there personally if she wanted to eat. But since she did not want to move at all, Xiao Su could only call for room service. It wasn’t until the food was placed in front of Jiang Xiaobai that she slowly got up. Just when she wanted to put on her dress, she found out that it was in tatters.
Jiang Xiaobai laughed grimly in her head. Then, she rubbed the torn-up clothing in Xiao Su’s face. “You did it on purpose!” He must have destroyed the dress on purpose just so she could never wear it again.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1495
Naturally, Xiao Su would not admit that he damaged the dress for his own selfish reasons. But in the face of Jiang Xiaobai’s criticisms, he humbly admitted his mistakes. “I’m sorry, I was restraining myself before, so I did not hold back this time. About the dress, I did not intend to destroy it on purpose.”
“Do you think I’d believe you?” Jiang Xiaobai laughed wryly. She wanted to dig out a baggy T-shirt dress to wear, but after some thought, she pulled out a black camisole dress.
Seeing her putting on a fresh new camisole dress, the corner of Xiao Su’s lips twitched unconsciously. Jiang Xiaobai walked up to him and raised her chin while smiling triumphantly. “Surprised? Even before coming to Thailand, I’ve already taken into consideration the weather here and packed a few dresses like these. If you were to tear all of them into pieces, I’ll just buy more when we go shopping. Each time you tear one, I’ll buy a new one.”
Xiao Su was about to say something when he saw the marks on her body. Pursing his thin lips, he asked, “Are you sure you want to go out dressing like that?”
“Of course,” Jiang Xiaobai answered clearly.
Xiao Su then gently asked her, “Would you like to wash your face or hands in the bathroom first?”
Although Jiang Xiaobai was unsure why Xiao Su would say something like this, she thought it proper to wash her hands before eating. Besides, she had sweated during their previous round of activities, and now her face was indeed sticky. After giving Xiao Su a fierce glare, Jiang Xiaobai turned and marched toward the bathroom.
With a faint smile on his lips, Xiao Su slowly sat down in front of the dining table while silently counting in his heart. Three, two, one.
Just when he reached one, Jiang Xiaobai’s furious roar came from the bathroom. “Ah! Xiao Su, you b*stard!”
Upon hearing her shriek, not only was Xiao Su not angry, but the smile on his lips became more prominent. After a few seconds, Jiang Xiaobai dashed toward him with her shoes still on, approaching him swiftly and grabbing his collar. “You did it on purpose!”
And here she was wondering why he would suddenly remind her to wash her hands in the bathroom—until the moment she lifted her head and saw herself in the mirror. “Hmm?” Her flawless skin was now covered in purple-red marks. From her neck to her collarbone, all the way down to her back and thighs, the marks could be seen clearly on her exposed skin.
No wonder she thought Xiao Su acted a little weird as he paid special attention to her collarbone and legs just now. It turned out that he had already planned it from the beginning—just so she could not wear camisole dresses. Great. Now even if he doesn’t tear the dress apart, I can’t go out wearing that either. But…
As they stared each other down, Xiao Su saw a hint of slyness flash in her eyes, and he had an ominous feeling. Sure enough, before he could analyze her look further, Jiang Xiaobai curled her lips and softly said, “You’d really think I wouldn’t dare to go out dressed like this? Believe it or not, if I go out dressed like this and we were walking side-by-side, everyone would be staring at you and not me.”
Xiao Su hugged her waist. “So does this mean you’re still going to wear it? Aren’t you afraid of what others would think?”
“I am thick-skinned. Do you think I’d be afraid? You, on the other hand…” Jiang Xiaobai reached out to touch his flushed ears. “I’m afraid that you’ll be more embarrassed than me, won’t you?”
This was true, but Xiao Su couldn’t let Jiang Xiaobai be bold and get away with it, so he firmly insisted, “Nope. If you are fine with it, I wouldn’t mind letting others see my handiwork.”
Jiang Xiaobai froze for a brief moment. She did not expect Xiao Su to utter those words. But she, too, was stubborn. When she went out with Xiao Su the day after, she really did wear a camisole dress, applying only sunscreen and nothing else.
The day before, Xiao Su had wanted to fight with her till the very end, but seeing his woman walk out of their hotel room with the marks on her body visible to everyone, he didn’t feel good at all. Before Jiang Xiaobai could leave the room completely, Xiao Su pulled her back in. “Okay, I surrender. Please change into something else.”
Jiang Xiaobai stared at him. “What did you say? I remember someone saying yesterday that they didn’t mind it. How can you go back on your word so quickly?”
A great man would know when to forge on and when to yield. Besides, even if he lost face in front of his wife, he couldn’t bear the idea of attracting other people’s attention once they stepped out from the hotel. At the thought of this, he immediately slammed the door shut. “Yes, I’m going back on my word. We’ll leave again once you have changed.”
Jiang Xiaobai snorted. Pushing his hands away, she sat down on the sofa. “Do you think I’ll change just because you asked me to? I won’t. I can’t always listen to everything you say.”
Xiao Su wanted to call her out for putting on airs. From the very beginning up till now, how many times did she listen to him? Wasn’t it always him who was obeying her words? He knew her temperament well. She was the type that could be persuaded by reason but not be cowed by force. Therefore, Xiao Su did not talk back. Instead, he sat beside her. Reaching out to embrace her, he lowered his voice and asked, “What do you want me to do so that you’ll change your outfit?”
Oh? His tone changed. Jiang Xiaobai did not expect this, so she teased him. “You’ve become so quick in changing your stance. Firm one second, gentle the next. I’m not used to it anymore.” With that, Jiang Xiaobai reached out to hold onto Xiao Su’s shoulders. “I’ll go and change, but only if you carry me all the way there.”
Carry her all the way there? “No problem.” Xiao Su swiftly agreed, so much so that Jiang Xiaobai was surprised. Initially, she wanted to make things difficult for him. After all, it was nice to have some fun. But since he agreed to her request ever so quickly, Jiang Xiaobai did not have the chance to continue making things difficult anymore.
“Come on, I’ll help you get changed.” In the end, Xiao Su carried Jiang Xiaobai and personally changed her outfit into something more reserved yet refreshing. It was Xiao Su’s mother who bought this dress for Jiang Xiaobai. The dress had a light pink hue with a tinge of blue, giving off a warm and graceful flair.
Even Jiang Xiaobai was not used to the dress after putting it on. As she stood in front of the mirror, she found herself looking good, though she wasn’t used to it. In the past, she didn’t pay much attention to her outfits. But recently, maybe because she was with Xiao Su, she became more feminine than before and started wearing clothes that were much more feminine-looking.
Just like for this trip, she had packed her own luggage, and she could have brought along all her comfortable and casual wear. However, considering the fact that they had hired a photographer to take travel photos for them, she changed her mind and brought some feminine-looking clothes.
In fact, Jiang Xiaobai noticed this change in her personality even before the trip. The more she thought about it, the more she felt that she had changed a lot. I’ve changed so much for him. Jiang Xiaobai suddenly looked at Xiao Su and said, “If you dare to bully me in future, I won’t let you off the hook so easily!”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1496
This silly girl… Xiao Su stepped close to tidy the strands of her hair, saying, “How can I ever bully you? Ever since we’ve been together, aren’t you the one who keeps on bullying me?”
Jiang Xiaobai blinked. She turned around to stare at Xiao Su and snorted lightly. “Good. Just so you know, only I can bully you, but you’re not allowed to bully me. Also, you can’t let others bully you. Only I’m allowed to do so.”
“Alright, I promise.” Xiao Su embraced her. The two were originally prepared to leave their hotel room, but the atmosphere between them changed with the romantic exchange. Without waiting for Xiao Su to kiss her, Jiang Xiaobai took the lead, tiptoeing to wrap her arms around his neck. It wasn’t long before their kiss turned into a raging fire, and their clothes were discarded and forgotten. And so, the couple spent their second day in Thailand at the hotel, yet again.
Night had fallen, and Jiang Xiaobai was lying in bed scrolling through her phone when she saw a message from Fang Tangtang. Fang Tangtang was asking after her honeymoon, and if they had taken any photos.
Jiang Xiaobai chuckled as she read the message. What photos? They had spent the past two days in the hotel, and they were so tired that they were resting most of the time, only waking up to eat. They hadn’t even gone shopping.
‘We didn’t take any photos.’ Jiang Xiaobai typed out a short and sweet reply.
But Fang Tangtang did not let her off the hook so easily, and continued to pester her by sending more messages. ‘How is it possible? You’ve been in Thailand for two days, so you must’ve at least taken some beautiful pictures. Stop hiding and send them over. Your editor wants to see it too.’
Upon hearing about her editor, Jiang Xiaobai immediately wrote back. ‘How did you guys get acquainted?’
‘We added each other on WeChat when we were your bridesmaids. Now there’s nothing we don’t talk about. We even made a bet on how many times you and your husband have done it in the past two days.’
Looking at the messages, Jiang Xiaobai’s lips twitched, and she was at a loss for words. ‘So asking for photos is just another way for you to ask me about this?’
‘Don’t put it that way. We’re all good friends, and we really do want to see your beautiful photos you’ve taken.’
Jiang Xiaobai gave a cold laugh. ‘As if I’d believe you. You said the both of you are betting on it, right? Alright, go ahead and make a bet. I won’t reveal anything.’
‘Xiaobai, oh, Xiaobai, don’t be such a spoilsport. Your editor and I have betted 1,000 on this. I’ll invite you to our group chat later, so you have to tell us about it.’
‘1,000?! Will our upstart Miss Fang even notice if she lost the 1,000?’ Fang Tangtang’s habit of chasing after celebrities usually cost her tens of thousands; even Jiang Xiaobai could feel the pain just from seeing her spending habits. It was also because she had a nouveau riche father that the family could afford her spending habits.
Shortly after, she was added into the group chat and was bombarded with questions. Jiang Xiaobai saw both of them chatting enthusiastically, so she had to cut off their conversation. ‘Can both of you pull your heads out of the gutter? You’re not even married yet. Also, since you two are so concerned about my married life, why don’t you book a ticket and come over to Thailand too?’
‘We’d love to, but will you be okay with it?’
‘Go away.’ In the end, Jiang Xiaobai did not reveal anything since it was something that she wanted to keep to herself. Moreover, she knew her friends all too well. If she said too much, they’d make fun of her. But if she revealed too little, they too would tease her relentlessly, and they might even comment on how incapable Xiao Su was.
After giving it some thought, Jiang Xiaobai decided that it was not a good idea to reveal anything. She told them that she was going to sleep and left the group chat immediately, content to let the both of them continue chatting. As she put down her phone, Xiao Su had just finished washing up, with water droplets still clinging onto his hair and body. As he walked over, Jiang Xiaobai called out to him. “Shall we go downstairs for a stroll?”
Xiao Su was stunned after hearing her question. “Do you still have the energy for that?” Xiao Su’s reply was casual. It was only later that he noticed how much it sounded like he was teasing her. Without warning, Jiang Xiaobai threw a pillow at him. “Of course I do!”
Shortly after, the two of them went for a stroll. The hotel they were staying in was by the sea, with a wide road separating the beach and shops. Although it was already late, there were still many people on the beach. As they walked past a shop selling flip-flops, Jiang Xiaobai bought matching pairs for Xiao Su and herself.
There was a lot of street food and snacks. Jiang Xiaobai tried out a few kinds, and all the food that she couldn’t finish she gave to Xiao Su. As they strolled on, Jiang Xiaobai was half full, but Xiao Su was so full that he couldn’t eat another bite. Seeing that Jiang Xiaobai wanted to buy something else to eat, Xiao Su gave a light cough and held her back. “I don’t think I can eat any more.”
Jiang Xiaobai hadn’t really given it much thought. In fact, she didn’t even realize she was giving Xiao Su all the food that she couldn’t finish. She wanted to try out something new, but never expected Xiao Su to graciously eat all the leftovers she had given him.
“We still have plenty of time. How about we continue our stroll tomorrow?” Xiao Su was doing his best to talk to Jiang Xiaobai in a level-headed manner. Even though he could not eat any more food, he made his tone calm and gentle.
This made Jiang Xiaobai realize how loving and tolerant he was. She clutched onto his arm. “Alright, let’s go back. We can always continue this tomorrow. You don’t have to finish everything if you’re too full, silly. Even if you don’t finish all the food, I won’t get angry at you.”
Xiao Su was embarrassed at her words, as he really did think she would get angry at him. He reached out to pinch Jiang Xiaobai’s nose. “Let’s go back then.”
In the following days, Xiao Su accompanied Jiang Xiaobai everywhere. He even hired a photographer to take pictures of them, capturing many beautiful memories of the both of them visiting countless tourist destinations, duty-free shops, amusement parks and even water activities.
…
Eight months passed, and Yan’s child was born. Jiang Xiaobai’s stomach was also getting bigger every day, and she was about to give birth soon. Jiang Xiaobai’s movements became restricted and it had been very inconvenient for her. She suffered a lot during the pregnancy, with both her legs swollen and a lack of sleep. She couldn’t even move on her own; she got easily tired from every few steps that she took.
Jiang Xiaobai felt aggrieved and helpless. It was because of her pregnancy that they had to put a stop to their honeymoon. Xiao Su and her traveled for nearly half a month, and just as they were prepared to fly to Maldives, Jiang Xiaobai’s mother gave her a call. Both mother and daughter chatted and soon talked about menstruation.
The conversation went well at first, but after the topic came up, Jiang Xiaobai realized that she hadn’t had her period for some time. She was lost for a moment. It was also Jiang Xiaobai’s mom who requested her to return home that very instant and put an end to their travels, to prevent the unborn child from getting hurt.
After Jiang Xiaobai told Xiao Su about her situation, Xiao Su was silent for a moment before proceeding to book their return tickets. Then, he hugged her and calmly said, “There’s still a lot of opportunity for us to travel in the future. Let’s listen to Mom first and return home for a checkup.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1497
The checkup revealed that Jiang Xiaobai was indeed pregnant. Soon after, she was detained at home. Staying at home wasn’t so bad initially, but it wasn’t long before her mom stopped her from using the computer. Every day, she was given a time limit on how long she could use it. Jiang Xiaobai was a little upset yet excited at the same time.
What made her upset was that she wasn’t ready to become a mother. That was why Xiao Su and her always took safety precautions. But by looking at the time frame, it seemed that she got pregnant from the very first time she was drunk and slept with Xiao Su. It was indeed worrying.
In the beginning, Jiang Xiaobai did not feel any morning sickness. Everything she ate tasted good. Soon after, her appetite increased by the day. Her daily routine consisted mostly of eating and sleeping. As such, she became chubbier and her legs started to swell. She even suspected that it wasn’t a baby that she was carrying in her womb, but a foodie. If it wasn’t for the child, her appetite would not have grown so much and made her put on weight.
During the many times that Fang Tangtang visited Jiang Xiaobai, she would always make fun of her. “Xiaobai, do you know what you look like right now? You’re as round as a ball; you don’t even look human anymore!” Fang Tangtang laughed. “Honestly, I’ve decided to cancel my plans to get married, after seeing your current situation. Even if I got married, I wouldn’t want to get pregnant.” It wasn’t enough for Fang Tangtang to make fun of her alone. She even added Jiang Xiaobai into the group chat so that she and Xu Yifei could poke fun at her together.
Jiang Xiaobai gave a cold laugh. “Fang Tangtang, what if your crush wanted you to bear his child? Will you do it?”
“Of course I will!”
“The tables will turn. You might be making fun of me today, but in the future, I’ll be sure to get you back ten times more.”
“F*ck.” Upon hearing, Fang Tangtang said, “Seems like I’ll have to make fun of you even more now. I’ll post your photos to Instagram this very second.”
“Alright, go ahead.”
Both of them had a habit of making fun of each other. Although Fang Tangtang might have said those things, in the end, she didn’t post any pictures. They even ended up laughing and joking after that.
“Look at what I’ve brought for you.” Fang Tangtang fished out a small packet of snacks from her bag.
Jiang Xiaobai glanced at it and her eyes lit up. “Spicy sticks?!”
“Correct!” Fang Tangtang passed the snack to her. “But you can only have this small packet.”
Ever since she became pregnant, even though Jiang Xiaobai ate a lot, her mom did not allow her to consume any junk food. As for Xiao Su, he cared for her and the child’s health, and so he stopped Jiang Xiaobai from eating unsanitary and unhealthy snacks. With the both of them in agreement, it was even harder for Jiang Xiaobai to eat any of those snacks. Hence, Jiang Xiaobai always threatened her best friend Fang Tangtang to bring some snacks when she came over to visit, else she couldn’t visit her.
Fang Tangtang also worried about Jiang Xiaobai’s condition, so she wasn’t willing to bring snacks for her that often too. But when she showed up empty-handed, Jiang Xiaobai would always give her a pitiful look. She couldn’t handle it anymore, so she would occasionally bring something to give Jiang Xiaobai a surprise. “Your husband is too cruel. You look so pitiful, yet he doesn’t even let you eat some snacks once in a while?”
“Yes.” Jiang Xiaobai nodded her head. She complained while she ate. “That idiot and my mom are the same. They won’t allow me to eat outside food, so you have to bring these over more often in the future.”
Jiang Xiaobai wouldn’t tell Fang Tangtang that Xiao Su did occasionally sneak her out for hotpot and snacks to relieve her cravings. But every time they did so, she wasn’t allowed to eat a lot. As to why she didn’t want to tell; the answer was simple. If she were to tell Fang Tangtang that Xiao Su brought her out every week, Fang Tangtang would think that she was eating too much and would not bring her any more food. She refused to let her source of happiness disappear again!
“Ah, he’s too awful. He doesn’t know how to take care of you at all.”
At that moment, the very person they were talking about was busy working. On the other hand, Yan had given birth, and was now a mom. Originally, Yan was hoping to have a daughter, but at the same time, she wanted a brother who could take care of his little sister. All this thinking made her head dizzy, so she eventually stopped thinking about it. To her surprise, she gave birth to a pair of twins. But the thing that left her feeling conflicted was that her twins were both boys. Not only that, she almost lost years of her life, as giving birth to twins was no easy task.
After giving birth, the doctor carried the newborns over to her. “Congratulations! It’s a pair of twins.”
Yan asked, “Is it a boy or a girl?”
“Both are cute little boys.”
Yan froze as she heard that they were both boys. She had hoped for a boy and a girl, but unexpectedly gave birth to both boys. Would her boys be extremely mischievous when they grow up? Could she handle them both when the time comes? Just the thought of it caused Yan’s head to hurt.
Later on, she started to notice that both their temperaments were polar opposites, even though they were twin brothers. Take for example, the elder one was more cold-tempered. He would not cry even when he became hungry, and would just lie there not looking at anyone. Other than shutting his eyes to sleep, he would just stare off into space with his eyes wide open. The younger twin, on the other hand, was more volatile. He would cry when he became hungry, laugh when he was happy and throw a fit if he didn’t feel good. He also liked locking gazes with people and playing with them. All in all, one was calm while the other was active.
As she was thinking about this, the younger twin started to throw a fit again. As Yan was about to get up and prepare the baby formula, she was stopped by the person next to her. “Stay, I’ll go.”
That was right, ever since she gave birth to twins, two cribs were added to the couple’s bedroom. Initially, they wanted to hire a nanny, but Yan couldn’t bring herself to trust her. Soon after, Luo Huimei offered to take care of the twins. However, as the children were always causing trouble from day to night, and coupled with her being old, Yan was reluctant to let her mom suffer. So, she decided to look after them herself. Han Qing was supportive of her decision too, as he thought they should look after their children on their own. Hence, he proposed for the cribs to be placed in their room so that they could take care of them together.
Yan was concerned at first because Han Qing still had to work during the day. She was afraid his sleep would be disrupted when the babies cried, and often had him go over to the next room to sleep. But she never expected Han Qing to say that it was fine, and that he would help her in taking care of their children.
In the end, every time their children started crying and Yan was about to get up, Han Qing would ask her to rest and would get up to take care of them himself. It was supposed to be the both of them taking care of the children, but Han Qing ended up taking all the responsibilities upon himself. She did not help much as a mother.
After Han Qing fed the children and lay back down, Yan spoke to him gently, “Let me take care of them during the night. You still have to work in the morning, and it’ll just disrupt your sleep.”
“I am responsible for taking care of our children too. It’s hard enough that you have to take care of them during the day alone; how could I let you take care of them during the night too?”
He does have a point, but… “How can you compare us both? You still have to go to work during the day. Even if I got up to take care of them at night, I can sleep during the day. Besides, these days, I have Mom to help me take care of them.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1498
Luo Huimei offered to help Yan look after her children, but Yan was afraid of tiring her mom out so she did not agree. But this did not prevent her mom from worrying about her daughter looking after the children by herself. Besides, Luo Huimei wanted to spend time with her own grandchildren, so she visited almost every single day. This resulted in Mr. Zhou staying back to keep watch of the shop.
Now that some time has passed, the shop employees became skillful enough in their work to manage on their own. Moreover, the store’s business had been booming, so Luo Huimei hired additional staff to help out at the store, just so she could concentrate on looking after her daughter and her two grandchildren.
“It’s my choice to help you to look after your children. Your husband shouldn’t slack off just because I’m helping.”
Many who became fathers would not assume the responsibility of a father, and they would rarely interact with their own children. In some cases, they wouldn’t even be able to look after their children properly. Some might even have the guts to yell at their own wife when they were woken up by their children in the middle of the night, shouting things like: ‘Do you even know how to look after your own child?’ After yelling, they’d promptly fall asleep, not taking into consideration how upset their wife must have felt. This was also the reason why pregnant women were increasingly becoming vulnerable to depression.
During Yan’s pregnancy, she read many posts about this topic on the internet. There were just so many of them, and most were women’s complaints of how lazy their husband was, and how they had the audacity to yell at them even when the husbands didn’t help to raise the children. As they had to stay at home and look after the children, they did not have any income and were painted as a non-contributing member of their own family in the eyes of others. The husbands conveniently forgot how upset and down their wife must have felt. A new mother could rarely eat or sleep well. On top of that, she had to change the children’s diapers and coax them to sleep. Coupled with the inconsiderate and insensitive words from their husband, they would surely lose it.
Yan strongly believed that it was better for women to have their own career and be financially independent. Otherwise, it would be difficult for them to have a say in anything. Fortunately, her Han Qing was extremely good to her, even more than what she had expected. At the thought of this, Yan instinctively reached out to hold Han Qing’s neck as she buried her head into his chest.
“In the future, please go to work and return home earlier so you can have more rest.” She was afraid that Han Qing wouldn’t be able to take it. Lately, his dark circles had become prominent, similar to when he traveled abroad and back multiple times just to see his sister. He never once complained about being tired. He did not even frown when he fell ill. This man is too hard on himself.
“It’s alright.” Han Qing hugged his wife’s petite shoulders. It warmed his heart to see how caring she was, and the corner of his lips curled upward. “I can handle it, don’t worry.”
Puzzled, Yan lifted her head. “Why are you always like this? You were the same as when you reunited with Muzi previously. You did not complain of tiredness even before Muzi returned. You’re human, not a robot. There’s no need for you to carry all the bitterness and pain by yourself. Also…” Yan ventured to ask a question that was a pressing thought on her mind. “Between you and Muzi… how wide is the age gap? Why do I feel that something’s off?”
Back then when Han Qing told her about his childhood, Yan felt sorry for him and did not dwell much on the details. Until one day, while having a conversation with Muzi, they touched on the topic of age. That was when she suddenly realized the age gap between Muzi and her brother was a little too wide. It wasn’t exactly far apart, but it didn’t match the date that Han Qing had told her.
At that time, the opportunity to ask Han Qing didn’t come up. Moreover, after she became pregnant, she began to sleep for longer periods of time, hence she did not ask about it. Now that she suddenly thought of it, she simply had to ask.
“You’ve finally realized it?” Han Qing extended his hand and brushed against her nose gently as he said with a smile, “And here I thought you wouldn’t notice.”
Hearing this, Yan’s eyes widened. “Could it be that you and Muzi are…”
“Yes.” Han Qing gently nodded his head and lowered his voice. “Muzi and I are half-siblings; we have different fathers.”
They have the same mother but different father. Upon hearing, Yan was extremely shocked.
“She did not ask a lot of questions, and we did not mention it after that. Since the rest of our family members are gone, she and I were the only ones left in this world at that time. Even if we have different dads, I still cherish her very much.”
Yan could tell that Han Qing really did cherish his one and only sister. At this thought, she assured him earnestly, “I’ll keep this a secret.”
“Why would this be a secret, silly? Even if we have different dads, she and I are still related by blood.”
Han Qing’s mom felt her husband’s loss keenly after his passing, and did not have the heart to take care of her son. In the end, Old Master Han had to bring them back to Han Residence.
During that period, Madam Han had shut down completely, and was always in a daze. She even started having sleep disorders. Old Master Han couldn’t bear to see her in that state, so he contacted her childhood sweetheart. This childhood sweetheart of hers, who later became Muzi’s father, continued staying single even after Madam Han had married. After seeing how dazed she was, he stayed by her side every day, talked, enlightened and even advised her. Madam Han did not want to accept the situation, but there was one time that she ran and was almost hit by a car. It was her childhood sweetheart who saved her life. Unfortunately, it also cost him his eyesight. Madam Han felt guilty, and it was then that she snapped out of her daze. She took up the responsibility to take care of Muzi’s father, but by then, he felt that he was useless and didn’t want to cause her any more trouble. Hence, he let Madam Han leave.
This decision pained Madam Han to no end. Not only did she not want to leave him, her childhood sweetheart said some harsh words to her, wanting to force her to leave. It went something like—either she left, or she had to marry him. Those words weren’t meant to force Madam Han into marrying him; it was meant to make her leave. In fact, he was shocked when Madam Han chose to marry him. And so, their wedding ceremony was held. Although Muzi’s father lost his eyesight, he had gained the chance to be by Madam Han’s side. Later, Madam Han became pregnant and gave birth to Muzi.
Muzi’s father loved her with all his heart. Of course, he was also very loving toward Han Qing, and Han Qing was also understanding and accepting of him. It wasn’t until later that Muzi went missing, and her biological father got in a plane crash. Even as he was breathing his last breath, Muzi’s father knew Madam Han had never loved him. She only married him out of duty. He did not say anything, but Madam Han had always known it, even until his death.
“Actually…” At this point, Han Qing buried his face into Yan’s neck, his voice muffled. “As she took her very last breath, she told me she was very sorry toward my father. He was the one she felt the most apologetic toward all her life. At that moment, I kind of knew what she meant.”
Because from the very start, they had promised to stay with each other forever. However, Madam Han did not control herself and started to have feelings toward Muzi’s father. That was why she told Han Qing that she was apologetic toward his father.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1499
However, Han Qing did not think that his mother had done his father any wrong. Instead, he felt even more guilty, because his father might still be alive if it wasn’t for him. But what happened had already come to pass. There were no ifs and buts, and certainly no turning back.
Hence, he took on the responsibility of looking for his sister. Once he found her, he treated her kindly and was a responsible brother. He gave her all the love that she deserved, whether it was fatherly, motherly, or brotherly love. After hearing Han Qing’s story, Yan felt shocked and saddened at the same time. She had never expected that there was such a complicated past.
What made her sad was the fact that one’s feelings couldn’t be controlled. When Madam Han developed feelings for her childhood friend, she felt guilty toward her late husband. As for Muzi’s biological father, even after much sacrifice, he still had no inkling that the lady he liked had feelings toward him too, leaving him to die with regrets. Of course, the one who suffered the most was none other than Han Qing.
He lost three family members in a row, who were the closest to him. Needless to say, it must have been a huge blow. As Yan came to that conclusion, her eyes started to tear up. She reached out to wrap Han Qing in a tight hug. “What’s wrong?” Han Qing asked her with a faint smile.
“From now on, I’ll keep you warm. Our children and I will always stay by your side, and I’ll grow old with you.”
Han Qing could feel the warmth spread through his heart upon hearing her words. He never expected to get a heartfelt confession from Yan when telling her about his past. In fact, his cold façade began chipping away the moment he met Yan. In the past, besides being gentle toward his sister, he was emotionless most of the time. He felt more human-like now, with warmth in his heart.
“I’ll hold you to that promise. You can’t go back on your words; otherwise…” Han Qing paused for a moment, then he whispered in Yan’s ear with a deep voice, “I won’t let you go even if death tries to pull us apart.”
…
With the twins still young, Yan felt bored being home alone. Thus, Han Muzi would often bring Little Sprout to visit. Little Sprout had grown to become more bright and beautiful, with eyes an exact replica of Han Muzi’s. She even knew how to greet her Aunt Yan, but she could barely pronounce it even after being taught by Yan several times.
This little girl looked intelligent, with a pair of eyes that could seemingly talk. She was wonderful, except for her laughter. Her laughter sounded a little silly, but she loved to laugh.
When Yan met Muzi again, she was reminded about the things that Han Qing said, and the fact that Muzi and Han Qing aren’t actual siblings. Although she was reminded about those things, she would keep it to herself.
“Aunt Yan! Mommy, Yaya, and I are here to visit you.” Little Bean had grown much taller in the year that passed. In fact, he was so tall he seemed like he was going to be a young adult soon, except for his small, skinny face.
Yan bent down to pinch his cheeks. “Little Bean, how can you be so tall but so skinny?”
After hearing Yan’s words, Little Bean put on a pitiful look and whined softly, “This is all because of you, Aunt Yan. After becoming a mother, you have no time for me anymore.”
Yan used to pamper Little Bean to no end, and he loved her cooking. But ever since she became pregnant, he never got to enjoy her cooking anymore. He thought he could see Yan every day and enjoy her cooking after she became his aunt. However, things were not going the way he expected. His mom also spent most of her time with either his bad daddy or Little Sprout. But Little Sprout was his sister, so he shouldn’t hold it against her. But that daddy of mine is really bad! He made it seem as if Mommy solely belongs to him! Little Bean loathed Ye Moxuan.
“Oh dear.” Yan stroked Little Bean’s head and ruffled his hair. “Seems like someone is angry with me. Shall I cook something delicious for you today?”
Little Bean harrumphed and turned away.
“Don’t be angry anymore, alright? I was pregnant, so I couldn’t take care of you, but you were never far from my mind. Now that I have free time on my hands, you can come over whenever you want. You can even move in here too!”
“Come on.” Han Muzi poked his back lightly. “How old are you to pester your aunt like this? Don’t you know that it’s not easy during pregnancy? I, too, suffered a lot when I was pregnant with you.”
Little Bean turned around and hugged her tightly. Lifting his little head, he said, “It must’ve been hard on you, Mommy. I was just joking with Aunt Yan.”
That day, Yan cooked for everyone. She even called Han Qing to let him know that Little Bean and Han Muzi were in their home. Han Qing told her that he would swing by in the afternoon. After calculating, Yan decided to cook for six.
This included Han Muzi, her mother, Han Qing, Little Bean, Little Sprout, and herself. As Yan was preparing to boil the rice, Luo Huimei couldn’t help but ask, “How many people are you cooking for?”
“Probably six.”
“Six? That’s all?”
Yan nodded. Then, Luo Huimei went up to her and berated. “You are a mother now. How can you still be so thoughtless? If we have six people altogether, then you should cook for at least seven people, so that we have more than enough if someone has a huge appetite, or another who drops by unannounced.”
Upon hearing her mother’s explanation, Yan thought that it was reasonable. So, she added more rice.
“Also, why isn’t Muzi’s husband here today? Maybe you should add more rice. He will probably come over later to look for Muzi and their children.”
“Don’t worry about it, Mom. Muzi told me that her husband isn’t coming over today, because he has a meeting this afternoon.” Otherwise, she would’ve prepared seven portions.
“That’s the plan, but who knows? The meeting may be canceled, and he might turn up. If that happens and there isn’t enough food on the table, wouldn’t it be awkward?”
“I guess so.” Yan scratched the back of her head. “I’ll cook more then?”
“Yan, you should be more alert on these matters. You don’t need to do this if it’s only you and your husband. However, if you have guests around, it’s better to be more detailed to avoid any embarrassment.”
“Okay.”
Seeing her daughter nod her head vigorously, Luo Huimei flicked Yan’s head with her fingers lightly. “Do watch and learn.”
Sure enough, Ye Moxuan’s car pulled up at the main door before noon. A tall figure stepped out from the car. Ye Moxuan was still as handsome as ever. With wide shoulders and long legs, he gave out an icy-cold vibe. No one would ever associate this psychopath with being a doting husband.

Ye Moxuan headed into the house after getting down from the car.
Just then, a small figure leaned against the door, looking at him with disdain. His words stopped Ye Moxuan cold.
“You are such a competent follower, Daddy. You had a meeting, but you skipped your meeting and insisted on following us.”
It was Little Bean who spoke.
Even though Little Bean had grown thin and tall, he was still way too short compared to Ye Moxuan. Little Bean was unsatisfied, and told himself that he must eat and exercise more, in order to tower over Ye Moxuan when he grew up.
Upon hearing those words, Ye Moxuan smiled coldly. He walked toward the little boy and reached out his hand, using his palm to hold down his head.
Irritated, Little Bean struggled to free himself from Ye Moxuan’s grip, but how could a young child overpower an adult?
Therefore, he could only let Ye Moxuan press down on him.
Seeing how Little Bean was trying his best to struggle free but still failed to escape, Ye Moxuan found the whole situation funny. “You can’t even free yourself from my palm. Yet you dare to talk to your daddy this way?” he teased.
Argh! This is so maddening!
Little Bean glared at Ye Moxuan furiously and suddenly screamed. “Mummy, look! Daddy is bullying me!”
After hearing him scream for his mother, Ye Moxuan pulled his hand back in a flash. His expression morphed back to his original look, a whole different person from that domineering man moments ago.
As Ye Moxuan pulled his hand back, Little Bean took the chance to run away.
When Ye Moxuan looked around and realized that Han Muzi wasn’t there at all, the little child in front of him had vanished.
What a sly little boy. Is he even my son? Aside from his looks, Little Bean is nothing like me. Besides, he’s too cunning for his age, even thinking of competing with me for a woman. I think it’s time to consider choosing a future wife for him and let him focus on his own woman instead of coming up with ways to snatch mine.
As Yan saw Ye Moxuan, she was thankful that her mother had reminded her. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be enough food for all of them this afternoon.
Even so, she was quite surprised. Muzi said Ye Moxuan had a meeting to attend, but he still came over. Such a clingy man.
As Yan looked around, all she saw was perfection; she was married to Han Qing, and they even had twins. Life couldn’t become any better.
After all, she had never imagined that she would be mixing with this group, much less become family.
Meanwhile, after entering the room, Little Bean sat next to Han Muzi, talking to her in a pitiful expression, while holding her arm the entire time. Just then, Ye Moxuan walked toward them with an unreadable expression. Before Little Bean could finish speaking, Ye Moxuan grabbed his collar and plunked him down in the next seat.
Just like that, Ye Moxuan took over Little Bean’s seat.
Seeing that, Yan didn’t know whether to cry or laugh.
A thought popped into her mind. Will Han Qing be like Ye Moxuan after both of our sons grow up? Probably not. Han Qing is more reserved. Even though he became flirty after we got together, it isn’t in human nature to change.
If he did change, it wouldn’t be that much. Han Qing most probably won’t be like him.
Little Bean angrily crossed his arms as he was forced to change his seat, feeling so frustrated that he did not feel like talking. He planned to get even with Ye Moxuan later that night.
As for Han Muzi, it seemed like she was used to the ongoing battle between father and son. After all, it had become a daily occurence to see Ye Moxuan and Little Bean compete with each other. Hence, she chose to ignore Ye Moxuan’s earlier actions and turn a blind eye.
Han Muzi knew that it was only a matter of time before Little Bean got back at Ye Moxuan. The whole cycle would then start again, as the father and son compete with each other for her.
Sometimes, it’s not a good thing to be too intelligent.
Quietly embracing Little Sprout who was sitting in her lap, Han Muzi suddenly felt that her clueless daughter had a cute side as well.
As Han Qing came back from work, he saw a bunch of people in his home. The atmosphere was lively; his wife, children, sister, brother-in-law, and their children were all gathered here together.
“Welcome home, brother.”
“Uncle Qing!” Little Bean and Little Sprout greeted him.
Han Qing’s eyes turned gentle, and he responded, before meeting Ye Moxuan’s eyes.
Unlike women, men did not cling to each other while chatting away happily. Moreover, both Han Qing and Ye Moxuan tended to be aloof and cold. If it were anyone else, Ye Moxuan would choose to ignore them, but Han Qing was his brother-in-law, his wife’s brother in fact, hence the both of them greeted each other with a nod.
After taking his coat off, Han Qing washed his hands before sitting down beside Yan.
“Where’s mum?”
He felt it was a little strange as he did not see Luo Huimei anywhere. He remembered hearing her voice when he was on the phone with Yan just now.
Yan stood up to get some rice for Han Qing, but he grabbed the bowl and went to get it himself. After he came back, Yan explained, “There was a call from the shop, saying that something had come up. Mum was worried, so she didn’t stay for lunch. She also messaged me to say that she will have lunch at the shop today.”
“Alright.” Han Qing nodded and looked at Han Muzi, who was sitting opposite him. He noticed that she looked radiant, and it seemed like Ye Moxuan was taking good care of her. With that, he felt even more satisfied with Ye Moxuan.
“It seems like Moxuan is treating you pretty well, Muzi. Your complexion looks rather good.”
Hearing his words, Ye Moxuan arched his eyebrows, then pulled Han Muzi into his arms and whispered into her ear, “Did you hear that, my wife? Your brother said that I take good care of you.”
Han Muzi did not expect him to act like that in front of everybody. Even though everyone knew how close they were, she still felt a little awkward.
At that thought, she pushed him back while telling him softly, “Don’t act this way when we have company.”
Hearing that, Ye Moxuan leaned in and kissed her cheeks, “Okay, we’ll continue this when we’re back home.”
Han Muzi’s lips twitched. Why can’t he be more reserved?
However, Han Qing did not feel awkward. Instead, he was quite fond of Ye Moxuan.
After all, this was what Han Qing was looking for in his brother-in-law, a personality that was not afraid of others’ judgment. If he was scared and mindful about everything, his sister would be the one who ended up suffering.
It was actually good that Ye Moxuan was like that.
After lunch, Han Muzi wanted to spend some time playing with the twins, but was swept away by Ye Moxuan, leaving Little Bean there.
On their way home, Ye Moxuan looked at Han Muzi with a serious expression and said, “Do you think that our son has grown up?”
“Oh? Yeah, he did grow much taller this year.”
“It’s time we arrange for his betrothal.”
Hearing that, Han Muzi was dumbstruck and at a loss for words.
