He stood there, looking downcast. It was as if he had just been abandoned.

Tang Yuanyuan did not move an inch. After a while, Yuchi Yishu turned to her. “Why are you still here? I thought you didn’t care about me anymore.”

Tang Yuanyuan responded, “Since when did I say that?”

“Isn’t that what you meant?” Yuchi Yishu bitterly looked her in the eye.

“That’s not true.” Tang Yuanyuan defended herself. “If that’s what I wanted, I would’ve…”

I would’ve gone in already. Why would I still be bothered to talk to you here?

“You would’ve what?” Yuchi Yishu pursed his thin lips as he slowly walked toward Tang Yuanyuan, who remained silent.

It took her an instant before she looked up at Yuchi Yishu, looking unhappy. “You are the one who upset me. Why do you look like I’m the one who upset you?”

“Do I?” Yuchi Yishu blinked innocently. “Since when did I upset you?”

Tang Yuanyuan widened her eyes in disbelief at his denial.

“Little girl, didn’t I tell you how much I feared that those words would scare you off? If that happens, how am I going to find someone like you again?”

“If that’s the case, why did you tell me now?”

“Don’t you already know why?”

Yuchi Yishu lowered his voice as he approached Tang Yuanyuan.

“W-Why would I know?”

She subconsciously tried to avoid him by moving away from him, but who knew that Yuchi Yishu would grab her by her arm. “You ate hotpot with that guy today. Does that mean that you’re going to start dating him?”

“I’m not!” Nose wrinkled, Tang Yuanyuan shook her head. “We were just eating hotpot together. There were no other intentions.”

“Are you sure there aren’t?”

“There aren’t.”

“What about him? Can you guarantee that he feels the same?”

“You can’t guarantee that, can you? Previously there were no pursuers around you, so I could still put off telling you about my feelings. Even though he really wanted to know the answer right now, he felt that it would be unfair to Tang Yuanyuan. She probably needed some time to clear her head.

“Keep walking and don’t look back.”

“Wh—” Tang Yuanyuan subconsciously tried to look back only to hear Yuchi Yishu’s comment, “If you look back today, you may not be able to get back to your dormitory tonight.”

Tang Yuanyuan paused for a second before turning her head back and slowly walking toward her dormitory.

“I-I don’t need that.” Tang Yuanyuan let go of their hands, walked to her bed, and sat down. “Anyway, please stop trying to set me up with him. I don’t like him and nothing will ever happen.”

At this point, Zhang Xiaolu walked up to her and sat next to her.

Tang Yuanyuan pouted. “Whatever. I can only tell you that I’m sure about it. Besides, Yishu is not the kind of man you guys just described. I believe in him.”

After that, Tang Yuanyuan headed straight to the bathroom and closed the door, shutting out their voices.

Then, she stood in front of the mirror and looked at herself for a while before poking her cheek. Why? I’m such a softie. He’s been neglecting me for so long, but look at me—I’ve already forgiven him just because of the words that he said to me tonight.

Tang Yuanyuan looked over toward where the two were looking and saw a tall figure.

Yuchi Yishu?

Why is he here again?

“It seems like we’re having a change of plans. You should go.”

Then, Yuan Yuehan pushed Tang Yuanyuan, who was then pulled back by Zhang Xiaolu. “Hold on. Yuanyuan, I wish you all the best. Since you told us that Yishu didn’t have a girlfriend, it seems that you aren’t through with him. So, be bold and capture his heart.”

Capture his heart?

Tang Yuanyuan blinked.

“You should go. If he really ends up being your boyfriend, you’ll have no regrets in life.”

Tang Yuanyuan stood there dumbfounded while Yuchi Yishu was waving at her.

Then, Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan left together. Feeling helpless, Tang Yuanyuan had to move forward toward Yuchi Yishu. She stopped right in front of him, pursed her lips, and asked, “Didn’t you say you would wait until I have an answer?”

“You’re right.” Yuchi Yishu nodded. Seeing that she was hesitating to say something, he followed up, “What’s wrong?”

“S-Since you said you would wait until I have an answer, what are you doing here today?”

Is he here today for an answer? Tang Yuanyuan was still feeling conflicted. Even though she knew what her choice would be, she did not feel like telling him now as she did not want him to have it too easy.

Yuchi Yishu took a step forward and covered her with his scent.

“So what? What does that have to do with me being here today?”

Startled, Tang Yuanyuan took a step back and almost fell. Fortunately, Yuchi Yishu caught her just in time.

“Why can’t you stand properly? Didn’t you sleep well last night?”

Tang Yuanyuan clenched her teeth. “Are you talking about yourself? I had a good sleep.”

Yuchi Yishu’s gaze fell on her eye bags and chuckled. “Fine then. I was the one who didn’t have a good sleep. So, dinner tonight?”

“Who are you talking to?” Tang Yuanyuan mumbled.

“If not with me, were you planning on eating with the guy from last night?”

“I wasn’t!”

“Then come with me.”

As he finished, he immediately grabbed her hand and started walking, leaving her with no choice but to follow suit. His steps were big; Tang Yuanyuan had to almost jog to be able to follow him.

After a while, Yuchi Yishu suddenly slowed down. Tang Yuanyuan quickly took a deep breath.

For the next couple of days, Yuchi Yishu would show up at the school entrance on time to bring Tang Yuanyuan to dinner, though, there was never a time where he would pressure her for an answer.

He did the same thing every day while looking calm and relaxed. It seemed like Tang Yuanyuan was the only anxious person.

There were a couple of occasions when Tang Yuanyuan reckoned that he was going to bring it up, but he would end up not saying anything when he sent her back to school. That gave Tang Yuanyuan a lot of stress.

After she noticed that he was not going to say anything, she turned around and left.

A week had passed.

“It’s been so long. Don’t you have an answer?”

Yuchi Yishu blurted out the important question on their first meet-up that day.

Tang Yuanyuan pursed her lips. “Aren’t we supposed to grab dinner? Let’s eat first.”

Having dinner together had gradually become a habit, and Tang Yuanyuan felt that she was already being obvious in her attitude toward his invitation. If she had no intention of being with him, she would not agree to meet him every day.

It was unlike Zong Yongran, whom she was afraid to run into and eat together with—that was an unpleasant feeling.

After a few steps, Yuchi Yishu grabbed Tang Yuanyuan’s hand.

“Let’s talk about it first before we grab dinner.”

Tang Yuanyuan blinked. “Aren’t we eating first?”

Yuchi Yishu responded earnestly, “We won’t eat until we’ve talked about it.”

Tang Yuanyuan curled her lips, not knowing what to say.

“You’ve been avoiding this for too long,” Yuchi Yishu chuckled. “And it’s been so many days—you should have an answer already.”

“No, I don’t,” Tang Yuanyuan denied. “I don’t have an answer yet.”

“Oh?” Yuchi Yishu raised his eyebrows. “You don’t have an answer yet? Does my presence every day make it difficult for you to think?”

Tang Yuanyuan had everything in control from the outset. Besides, she intentionally put it off to make Yuchi Yishu wait anxiously.

But now, it seemed like Yuchi Yishu had taken over the situation, and this annoyed Tang Yuanyuan.

Very quickly, Yuchi Yishu held her hand and moved to a somewhat quiet spot not far from them. “If after so long you still haven’t got an answer, perhaps we should just stay here to let you think until you have one. When the time comes, you’ll let me know.”

“Yishu, why—”

“I can’t wait any longer.”

“Do you agree or not?”

For reasons unbeknownst to her, Tang Yuanyuan felt her heart pounding in her chest. Then, she opened her mouth. “Y-You’re forcing me into giving you an answer. I’ve told you already that I don’t have an answer yet.”

As she finished, Yuchi Yishu let out a deep chuckle.

“Fine. Just take it as me forcing you into giving me an answer. I’ll give you five minutes to do that, and the countdown starts now.”

Tang Yuanyuan was rendered speechless.

What? Does that mean I’ll have to say it to his face in five minutes?

If Yuchi Yishu had a choice, he would not have chosen to pressure her. However, he had been waiting for too long. The fact that she spent so much time with him throughout these couple of days without meeting up with Zong Yongran had proven to him where her heart was.

Even though Yuchi Yishu knew he should not be so impatient, as the days went on, he increasingly realized that the longer he waited, the more likely she was going to either regret, slack, or become indifferent about it.

And if she rejected him…

This was a possibility that Yuchi Yishu would never like to contemplate.

Yuchi Yishu was strict with the time he stipulated as he constantly looked at his watch after the countdown started. He would not respond to Tang Yuanyuan no matter what she said to him.

It was obvious that he would not disturb her within five minutes so she could make a decision entirely on her own.

For Tang Yuanyuan, she became conflicted as she was too shy to agree. She bit her lower lip, stamped her foot, and squatted down next to Yuchi Yishu with her hands around her knees, looking upset.

The clock was ticking.

“Time’s almost up. Are you ready, little girl?”

As Yuchi Yishu’s voice came out from above her head, she lifted her head, and finally gave in. She looked at him with that pair of clear eyes.

“Huh?”

Yuchi Yishu looked down.

At this point, it was already getting dark, and the lights from the street lamps fell on Tang Yuanyuan’s fair little face. With his back against the lights, he could clearly see her facial features.

“If I don’t agree, are you going to find someone else right away?”

The smile on Yuchi Yishu’s face disappeared slightly. He kept quiet for a while before responding, “Perhaps due to the trauma from your rejection I might get married right away.”

“You can’t do that!” Tang Yuanyuan yelled in disagreement. “I would never agree to that! Look how insincere you are!”

Following that, Yuchi Yishu squatted down next to her and squeezed her cheek. “The moment I found out that you were having hotpot with Zong Yongran, I rushed right over, and everything that I’ve done for and with you for the past couple of days was in anticipation for your answer. Now you’re asking me if I’ll find another girl if you reject me—who do you think is the insincere one in this situation? You are heartless.”

His words made Tang Yuanyuan realize that she was the insincere one.

“So what?” Tang Yuanyuan snorted. “You deserve it as you’ve been unclear about your decision previously. Now you should be getting a taste of what I’ve been going through.”

“Yes, you’re right.” Yuchi Yishu gently brushed the edge of her brow with his finger and looked her in the eye. “I was wrong before, but I know that now and would like to apologize to you. I’m sorry.”

Tang Yuanyuan was caught off-guard, as she did not expect him to actually lower himself to apologize to her.

Did this tall and lean man just lower himself in front of me?

“Little girl, are you willing to accept my apology?”

These days, Tang Yuanyuan had noticed that Yuchi Yishu had not been talking to her as someone older than her. It might have slipped his mind a couple of times, but for the most part, he did not do that.

Was this a change in his attitude?

Not responding, Tang Yuanyuan bit her lower lip and looked him in the eye.

“You’re kidding me.” Yuchi Yishu tapped the tip of her nose. “Do you even have to think to decide whether or not to accept my apology?

“I-I don’t. Since it seems like you meant it, I-I’ll forgive you.”

“Well, since you’re willing to forgive me on this front, I suppose that you are no longer mad at me. Now, let’s come back to our previous conversation.”

They were now back to the awkward conversation. Then, Yuchi Yishu held her soft cheeks. “Time’s up. What do you say?”

Time seemed to have frozen as the two looked at each other. A while later, Tang Yuanyuan began to blush before moving her face away. “Since you’ve already put it this way, can I still reject you?”

At this moment, it felt like a weight off his shoulders. He looked at this girl in front of him, who had put him through an endless emotional rollercoaster, and suddenly picked her up from the ground.

“Ah,” Tang Yuanyuan yelped while she subconsciously put her hands around his neck. “Yishu!”

Yuchi Yishu held her waist tightly and lowered his head a little. “Since you’ve agreed, please stop calling me that.”

He pinched Tang Yuanyuan on her cheek with enough strength to make her feel it, but not enough to hurt her.

Right away, Tang Yuanyuan’s eyebrows went up. She then let go of her grip to grab his hand.

“Yishu, don’t do that.”

Yuchi Yishu caught her hand and squinted. His eyes looked extremely sentimental.

“Didn’t I tell you to stop calling me that?”

Tang Yuanyuan shook his hand off, took a step back, and made a funny face. “But I want to!”

“Sure. Then I’ll come and pick you up in two days.”

“What for?”

“To go on a date.”

A date? Tang Yuanyuan blushed.

“A date—like what normal couples do.”

“No one wants to go on a date with you,” Tang Yuanyuan mumbled as Yuchi Yishu finished. Then, she turned around and ran away.

When she was back in her dormitory, she quickly went up to Yuan Yuehan and Zhang Xiaolu.

“Yuehan and Xiaolu, please wake me up.”

Yuan Yuehan and Zhang Xiaolu were utterly confused.

“What happened?”

“Tell us about it.”

One of them pinched Tang Yuanyuan’s arm.

“Why doesn’t it hurt?”

Zhang Xiaolu looked neutral. “Because I wasn’t using any strength.”

Then, she exerted some strength and Tang Yuanyuan was in great pain. “That hurts!”

“Now you feel it. What’s going on? Why did you ask us to pinch you out of the blue?”

“Nothing.” Not only did Tang Yuanyuan not get upset after being pinched, she even let out a smile as she sat down on her bed. Clearly, she was unable to conceal how happy she was tonight.

“Recently, you have been spending time with Yuchi Yishu every day, haven’t you?” Yuan Yuehan squinted. “Did he just confess to you?”

“Are you guys seeing each other now?”

They bombarded Tang Yuanyuan with these questions, one after another. “How did you guys figure that out?”

“It’s written all over your face. How do you think we figured it out?”
