Shen Qi rearranged her clothes swiftly before pushing him away again. “Ye Moxuan, enough. Do you think that I will forget about you not returning home just because you’re doing this?”

“What?” Ye Moxuan stared at her as if he was thinking about something. “You took revenge on me by not returning home just because I didn’t come home for the night?”

“So what if I did?” Shen Qi bit her lip. Her lips were already red and swollen after the kiss, and it looked especially alluring against the contrast of her pearly whites. “If you are allowed to do so, so can I.”

“You!” Ye Moxuan was at a loss for words due to his anger. “Listen carefully. Even if I can do certain things, it doesn’t mean that you are allowed to do them too. I forbid you from hanging out with other men, understand?”

Shen Qi did not answer him; instead, she stared at him, seemingly amused. “What about you? If you forbid me from hanging out with other men, does that mean you won’t hang out with other women too?” Shen Qi felt as if she might suffocate when she asked that second part of the question because she thought that the reply would be a rude awakening for her.

Ye Moxuan’s gaze darkened when he heard that, and something complicated flashed across his eyes when he looked at her. “Do you mind if I hang out with other women?” he asked Shen Qi.

Shen Qi was dumbfounded by his question. She then answered almost instantly with impatience. “Isn’t that a stupid question?”

Shen Qi realized with a start that she seemed to have admitted to something, so her expression changed drastically as she tried to get off Ye Moxuan’s lap. However, he grabbed her wrists firmly. “It seems like you really do mind.”

“That’s absurd!” Shen Qi explained hastily.

Ye Moxuan smirked and commented, “You can’t take back what you’ve said. Besides, you said that to me, and I, Ye Moxuan, do not accept people retracting their statements!”

Shen Qi stared at him in puzzlement, and after some time, her lips parted, then she finally asked again, “All right, I will not retract my statement. What about you? Will you stop staying out in the future? Will you stop hanging out with other women behind my back?”

Ye Moxuan scowled when he heard what she had said as if he was displeased with her questions.

“Can you do that?” Shen Qi repeated her question again persistently. Although things seem rather bleak now, I still believe that there’s nothing going on between Ye Moxuan and Han Xueyou. I’m sure that everything is just a coincidence.

Ye Moxuan pursed his thin lips and caressed her head gently. “Who told you that I didn’t come home because I was hanging out with other women? Did you see that in person?”

Shen Qi hesitated before answering him. “No, but what was so important that you didn’t return home for two days and two nights? Can you explain to me about that?”

Ye Moxuan squinted at her menacingly before answering her. “You’d better not get involved in my business.”

Shen Qi couldn’t help but laugh bitterly when she heard that.

“It seems that you only want me to care for you.” With that, she let go of his hand and got up from his lap to put some distance between them.

Ye Moxuan scowled while staring at the woman who was standing not too far from him. “You mind repeating that?”

Shen Qi smiled bitterly. “So what if I repeat myself? Will it change your opinion toward me? Ye Moxuan, since you don’t care about me, please don’t get involved in my business!”

“Don’t get involved?” Ye Moxuan burst out laughing, and his eyes gleamed menacingly. “In that case, are you planning to elope with Ye Linhan? Am I in your way?”

“Yes!” Shen Qi somehow summoned her courage and yelled back at him. “So what if that’s true?” She was determined to go against him.

Ye Moxuan’s pupils dilated suddenly before his eyes narrowed into slits again. After Shen Qi admitted that in person, he felt as if something had just slithered up his chest before stabbing his heart viciously, which made breathing difficult for him.

Damn this woman! How dare she admit to me that she wants to be with Linhan?!

Before he could regain his composure, Shen Qi had turned to face away from him.

“I like Linhan because he is considerate, gentle and polite. Compared to your arrogance and possessiveness, he is so much better than you. Ye Moxuan, you always thought that I was in love with you, but you are wrong, because I’ve never been in love with you. Even if all the men in the world ended up dead, I would never ever fall for someone like you.” With that, Shen Qi marched out of the room without sparing him another glance.

Ye Moxuan was in his wheelchair, and he felt as if millions of needles were piercing into his chest. This inexplicable agony made him frown in pain, and he pressed a palm over his chest. Am I feeling… heartache? Is my heart breaking because of that woman? This is the most ridiculous joke!

Ye Moxuan stared at her back view, and after a few moments, his lips curled into a cold and self-deprecating smile. She is just a woman, and I don’t care about her. My life and whatever journey I may embark on does not require a woman by my side.

Although Shen Qi was ruthless with her words, tears started brimming in her eyes the moment she returned to her mattress on the floor. What she said sounded ruthless and cold-hearted, but she knew that she was only hurting herself, for Ye Moxuan probably didn’t even care what she said.

After that, Shen Qi heard him having a shower, thereupon she thought of something, so she got up and wiped her tears away. She walked toward the suit jacket, which he hung on the rack. This is the suit jacket he had on previously, and if he gifted the thing away, that box wouldn’t be in there anymore.

Shen Qi moved stealthily like a thief while reaching into both sides of the suit jacket’s pockets. After a while, she felt a hard, small box in one of the pockets.

It’s… still with him? Shen Qi was stunned for a moment, and she took the box out. It really is the box I saw the other day. Why is it still with him? Could I have misunderstood him?

In that instant, Shen Qi felt overwhelmed by guilt. If I misunderstood him earlier, those horrible things I said earlier to hurt him…

She opened the box when she thought of that, and she stood rooted to the spot feeling astounded. After some time, she smiled bitterly while putting the lid back on. Then, she returned the box back into the pocket of his suit jacket, as if nothing had just happened.

Shen Qi then stumbled forward and left. She closed her eyes after finally lying on her bed, and tears started rolling down her cheeks.

The box… is empty. The pair of pink stud earrings are long gone because Han Xueyou has them on her ears. After all, she looked shy at the mention of these stud earrings. She seemed hesitant toward the end, and she even tried convincing me to trust her. Why did she want me to trust her? Shen Qi was even more confused now than before.

She closed her eyes, thereafter the scenarios and conversations with both Han Xueyou and Ye Moxuan started flashing through her mind quickly. Gradually, she fell deep asleep.

It was in the middle of the night when Shen Qi suddenly woke up. She realized in surprise that her pillow was wet. As such, she had no choice but to turn the pillow over to sleep. The room was dead quiet, and she turned to her side to look at the moonlight outside of the windows. After a while, she shut her eyes and tried to fall back to sleep.

Forget about it. I have to accept the way things are. It’s a kind gesture to give others my blessing. After all, a remarried woman like me, who is also pregnant with another man’s child, does not deserve any happiness. Tomorrow, I will meet up with Han Xueyou to clear things up.

After thinking things through, Shen Qi realized she felt calmer than ever. After a good night’s sleep, she woke up the next morning, feeling at peace with herself. She washed up and had a change of clothes steadily. For once, she sat at the dressing table and started applying makeup carefully while staring into her reflection in the mirror.

Ye Moxuan scowled when he saw the scene before him. Why is this woman acting like a completely different person? This is the first time I’ve seen her at the dressing table ever since we got married.

Shen Qi rarely put on makeup, but that didn’t mean that she didn’t know how to. Back then, when she and her friends were younger, they would always get together and try putting makeup on each other. However, later on in life, time did not allow her that luxury, and she didn’t bother making an effort.

She focused and applied her eyeliner while looking into the mirror. Her hand remained steady without trembling, and her eyeliner was drawn thin and beautifully. Once her eyeliner was applied successfully, it accentuated the coolness of her eyes while giving it a smoky look. After that, she started curling her eyelashes and applying some mascara. Then, she worked on her lipstick, and when she was done with that, she pouted at the mirror, her lips lusciously red.

Shen Qi put down her lipstick and realized with a start that she had yet to apply some eyeshadow. Just as she was about to apply some, she noticed that a figure had appeared out of nowhere behind her. It’s Ye Moxuan…

She noted from the reflection of the mirror that Ye Moxuan was staring at her eerily.

“You are putting makeup on for the first time.” His voice was intimidating, and he appeared rather upset.

Shen Qi had already made up her mind last night, and so she grinned brightly at him from the mirror’s reflection. “Don’t I look good? If my makeup looks good, it’ll make you look good too, but… I don’t think you’d need that from me in the future.”

Her voice was almost inaudible toward the last part of her sentence. Ye Moxuan wasn’t sure if he heard correctly because he only heard snippets of it. Hence, he scowled at her while asking her unhappily, “What nonsense are you spouting?”

Shen Qi regained her composure and smiled into the mirror. “Did I say something? I don’t think so. I was just asking, don’t you want to look good? If my makeup looks good, wouldn’t it make you look good too?” With that, Shen Qi stood up and walked toward her wardrobe to change into a light blue gown. She then let her hair down when she walked back into the room. Her waist-length hair scattered over her shoulders, which added a touch of charm to her beauty.

Ye Moxuan was especially upset when he saw Shen Qi looking as such. He then pursed his lips while questioning her coldly, “Where are you going?”

Shen Qi nodded when she heard that. “Oh, right. I’m planning to… ask Xueyou out today. We… haven’t shopped together for a very long time.”

Ye Moxuan’s expression changed immediately at the mention of Han Xueyou’s name, and an uneasy expression glinted in his gaze. “So you’re meeting her?”

Shen Qi nodded before asking him, “Is there a problem?”

Shen Qi was staring at Ye Moxuan unblinkingly when she asked that, as if trying to sense if something was wrong on his end.

For the first time, Ye Moxuan did not meet her eyes; on the contrary, he looked away while answering in a cold tone, “No.”

“Oh, in that case, I am taking a day off today as well. I’m heading out now.”

With that, Shen Qi grabbed her bag and headed toward the door.

“Stay right there.” Ye Moxuan stopped her suddenly.

Shen Qi came to a halt, and Ye Moxuan did notice that Shen Qi, who had her back facing him, was not smiling at all. She looked like a completely different person from the woman who was smiling at him just a second ago.

“Are you sure that you are just meeting her, not anyone else?”

Shen Qi turned around to smile at Ye Moxuan when she heard that.

“Do you think that I would date other men behind your back?”

Ye Moxuan scowled in displeasure, and his eyes were as cold as steel when he glared at her.

“Don’t you worry. I have no such interest. Besides, even if I were dating other men, I wouldn’t do it so blatantly in front of you.”

Shen Qi left the room straight away after saying her piece.

Ye Moxuan felt as if he had just lost something important while staring at her back view.

He felt rather helpless with that feeling.

When she got downstairs, Shen Qi bumped into Ye Linhan, who was about to leave the house .

When their eyes met, a pleasant surprise gleamed in Ye Linhan’s gaze, but it soon turned into confusion. She usually dresses modestly; why is she dressed up in this way all of a sudden?

Before he could snap back to his senses, he was already walking toward her.

“Qi, are you heading out?” he asked.

Shen Qi nodded before greeting him. “Mm-hmm. Good morning, Linhan.”

Ye Linhan’s gaze dulled slightly at her greeting, but he seemed to have understood something as he flashed her a bright smile. “Morning! You are dressed very beautifully; are you meeting someone important?”

“No, I’m just going shopping with my friend.”

“Do you need me to drive you there?” Ye Linhan jingled his car keys in the air. “I’m heading out too.”

At first, Shen Qi wanted to reject him, but when she looked up, she caught sight of a familiar figure from the corner of her eyes. Shen Qi then hesitated before bobbing her head. “Sure!”

Ye Linhan noted her reaction, but he smiled anyway. “Let’s go, then.”

“Mm-hmm.” Shen Qi made her way forward, whereas Ye Linhan looked up suddenly and stared at the person who was still upstairs. Ye Linhan’s sharp gaze was met with a steely stare.

Ye Linhan, who was usually gentle, now had a triumphant smile on his face. He then turned around to catch up to Shen Qi before asking her in concern, “Have you had your breakfast? Why don’t we have our breakfast together on the way?”

Shen Qi blinked several times and answered him swiftly with a nod, “Sure.”

Ye Linhan was not sure what had happened between Ye Moxuan and Shen Qi for her to have such a drastic change. However, it didn’t change things much for him, for as long as Shen Qi gave him a chance to get closer to her, he would have the time and opportunity to show her his true feelings.

This was more than enough for him.

After getting into the car, Shen Qi whipped her phone out to send a message to Han Xueyou to invite her today for a meet up in the milk tea shop near the school.

Han Xueyou replied with a question mark when she saw the words ‘milk tea shop’.

Han Xueyou then sent over another message promptly. “Why do you want to meet at the milk tea shop all of a sudden?”

Shen Qi appeared indifferent when she replied, “I feel like having the milk tea there. Would you accompany me?”

After a long silence, Han Xueyou replied, agreeing to meet with her. Shen Qi informed her the time before putting her phone aside.

“Are you meeting up with your friends?” Ye Linhan asked casually when he saw her putting her phone down.

Shen Qi leaned against the back of her seat and nodded while staring at the scene outside the window that was flashing by.

Although the sun was out now, and the city was densely populated, Shen Qi still felt chilly in her thick outfit. In fact… she felt extremely lonely.

Ye Moxuan glanced toward her while driving, and he realized that she was exuding a different vibe today, which did not feel good at all.

He frowned and asked her in concern, “What happened?”

Shen Qi pondered for a bit when she heard that, but she later shook her head. “Nothing happened.”

“There’s something wrong with you today.”

“Is that so?” Shen Qi smiled faintly. “Maybe it’s because I’ve dressed up today.”

She commented so casually, as if she was not bothered at all.

Ye Linhan had no choice but to abandon his attempts since he couldn’t seem to get a straight answer out of her. “What would you like for breakfast?”

“You can decide, Linhan. I’m fine with anything,” Shen Qi answered melancholically before closing her eyes to rest.

Ye Linhan thought that she looked exhausted, and so he didn’t bother her anymore with any small talk. Instead, he stepped on the gas.

No one could tell how much time had passed, but the car came to a stop eventually. Shen Qi was still asleep, and Ye Linhan had to call out for her several times before she finally woke up from her sleep. She opened her bleary eyes slowly while staring at Ye Linhan, who regarded her with love and tenderness. “We are here. Let’s get out of the car once you’re ready.”

Shen Qi looked at him in a daze for a while before regaining her composure.

“Alright.”

She unfastened her seatbelt and was just about to rub her eyes when Ye Linhan grabbed her wrist. She looked up at him in surprise before asking in confusion, “Linhan?”

Ye Linhan let out a deep chuckle and flicked her forehead with his finger. “What are you doing? You have makeup on; you’ll end up smearing your makeup if you rub your eyes now.”

His voice was so tender that it felt warm and fuzzy in Shen Qi’s heart.

Shen Qi realized with a start that she did apply makeup earlier, and she would have ruined it by rubbing her eyes.

She nodded in agreement when she recalled that. “Alright.”

Then, she pulled her hand out of his grip and blinked several times before getting out of the car with Ye Linhan.

Shen Qi was distracted during breakfast. There were countless fragrant dishes served on the table, but she seemed unfazed and indifferent.

Ye Linhan picked a dumpling up with his chopsticks and placed it into her bowl while remarking, “You don’t seem to be interested in food.”

Shen Qi snapped back to her senses when she realized he was talking to her.

“Oh, I’m alright. I can eat.” She smiled embarrassedly and ate the dumpling in her bowl.

She looked as though she was chewing a piece of tasteless carpet. Ye Linhan scowled deeply when he saw that and finally placed his chopsticks down.

“Qi, tell me. What happened?”

Shen Qi stared at him in a daze.

“What happened… between you and Moxuan last night? Don’t try to lie to me, because you are acting like a completely different person today.”

After pondering for quite some time, Shen Qi flashed a faint smile at him. “Linhan, you are overthinking. I was just wondering where I should go shopping with my friend later, and that’s why I was distracted. Nothing happened between Ye Moxuan and me.”

She paused for a while before looking up at Ye Linhan. “Linhan, did you forget what you said last night? You will never force me to do anything that I don’t want to. I assume that it includes not forcing me to say anything.”

Ye Linhan was at a loss for words, and he asked helplessly after a moment, “Are you accusing me of being nosy?”
