Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 791
Ye Moxuan stared intently at her as her eyes moved about frantically—unsure of where to look. She was too embarrassed to look straight at him after she was caught in that situation. He actually asked if I was a pervert? She wanted to bury her face in her hands and cry. Ye Moxuan thought of her as a pervert now. Lifting her eyes, she looked at him with a pitiful gaze. “I-I didn’t do that on purpose. It was an accident.”
Her pitiful gaze made her beautiful, placid eyes look more delicate to him. Duanmu Xue had given him that same look before, but it only made him agitated, wishing that she would stay further away from him.
He wondered, Do all women like to do this? Do they think that they are cute? Do they think they can get a man to pity them with just this one look? But that moment proved that it depended on who the woman was. For example, Han Muzi, who was standing in front of him. He suddenly thought she looked rather… cute.
He leaned his chest down at her on impulse. Surrounded by his masculinity, she instinctively raised her hands in front of herself. “W-What are you doing?”
“Remember when I asked you if I was the reason you joined the company but you kept denying it?” He narrowed his eyes and reached out to pinch a strand of hair away from the side of her cheek. “You’ve been caught red-handed now.”
She looked at him at that proximity with a dazed expression and enlarged eyes.
“You hid my coat here, and even—”
He did not have the chance to finish his sentence before she reached up to cover his mouth out of embarrassment. “That’s enough! Stop talking about it!” This is so humiliating! I did not think something like this would ever happen!
On the other hand, the moment she touched his lips, he felt his whole body electrify and stiffen on the spot.
However, she was only focused on the incident that occurred earlier so she did not pay any attention to his reaction after she covered his mouth. She only pulled her hands back quickly after she noticed that he had stopped talking. She said angrily, “I told you it was an accident, so stop humiliating me. Just go wait outside. I’ll get the coat ready and bring it to you.” Without waiting for his answer, she started pushing him out of the room. Then, she slammed the door shut with a bang and locked it.
He took a few steps back before regaining his balance and stared blankly at the closed door. After a moment, he subconsciously reached up to touch his lips where her hands had been.
As she locked herself in the room, her whole face felt hot. She did not have to look in the mirror to know that she was blushing. How did I not think of it? That was her first thought. I should’ve closed the door as soon as I came in and not let him see that. She whimpered in silence.
But the more unexpected event was that he had gone back on his words. He clearly told her he did not want the coat anymore when they were at the company the other day. But now he was at her house, asking for it back. Isn’t he the perverted one?
Regardless, she did not want to stall any longer. She quickly ran over to her closet and opened it, cringing as she saw her red brassiere on top of the coat. Grabbing it, she flung it into one of the corners of her bed, thereupon she patted down the suit although it was not dirty. After that, she brought the coat down from the closet and made her way toward the door.
She took a deep breath, then opened the door again. Surprisingly, Ye Moxuan was still standing there, looking at her coldly. Although she felt awkward, she bit the bullet and walked forward. “Here… the coat you wanted.”
He looked down at the coat in her hands but had no intention of retrieving it. She looked at his expression cautiously. Is he disgusted by it?
“Don’t worry. My bra is clean so the coat is not dirty.” As she said that, she figured it would be weird if he still wanted the coat back after what he witnessed. As she thought about this, she asked, “Should I… send it to get dry-cleaned again?”
He looked up and shot her a cold look of objection while reaching for the coat.
She became reluctant as the coat was about to be taken away from her, and bit her bottom lip. “I remember telling you last time that I would return it after I got it cleaned, but you said you didn’t want it back anymore because you’re a germaphobe.”
His hand stopped moving and he stared at her with a threatening and ominous gaze.
Biting her bottom lip, she was still unwilling. “Could I have heard it wrongly?”
He snickered. I give her an inch and she’s taking a mile. “I thought about it and this coat is just too expensive to give to you even if I didn’t want it anymore.” He raised his eyebrows. “Besides, if I leave it here with you, who knows what other… bizarre things you would do to it?” He added emphasis on those last few words and managed to watch her cheeks and ears go red again.
She countered, “Who would think of doing those things to your coat? I told you what happened earlier was an accident.”
Upon hearing that, he snatched the coat back and said simply, “Who knows if it was an accident or not?”
“Hey!” She fumed with anger. She wanted to recompose herself but it was all water under the bridge now. Seeing the coat in his hands, she truly felt a sense of reluctance. But she quickly remembered. “Did you come here today just to take the coat back?”
He shot her a sidelong glance. “Did you think I came to see you?”
She was dumbfounded. Indeed, she did assume that he was there to see her but as it turned out, he only was only there for the coat.
“It’s very expensive,” he said suddenly, as though he was emphasizing it again—afraid that she was unconvinced. No matter what, he was not going to let her know that he had driven to her place subconsciously.
At that moment, a WeChat message notification sounded from her phone. She took her phone out to look and smiled.
He was still holding the coat in his hands. However, he frowned as he saw a sudden smile on her face. “Who is it?” Could it be that big-mouthed George?
As she heard that, she quickly put her phone away and looked at him. “Um… it’s getting late. Do you… want to stay for dinner?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 792
Stay for dinner? Ye Moxuan was in the middle of suspecting that big-mouthed George had tattled to her in the message when her question took all his attention away. Do I want to… stay for dinner?
“Are you inviting me?” he asked, staring at her with his jet black eyes.
Han Muzi nodded. “Yes. I have ingredients in the refrigerator so I can cook up something.”
“You can cook?” he asked with a tone of surprise. However, he quickly realized he should not have done that. “It’s fine. God knows what nonsense you’ll make me.”
She hung her head down dejectedly. “I may not be a professional cook, but you’ve never tried my food before, either. How can you say it’s nonsense?”
He was speechless, then he put on a frown. Is she that disappointed? But it’s just one meal anyway.
“If you’re that concerned, I can call George and have him—”
Before she finished speaking, he cut her off coldly. “Are you close to him?”
“Huh?” She blinked at him and shook her head instinctively. “Not that close. But aren’t you two friends? I just thought—”
“Don’t call him,” he cut right in.
“Then, are you saying you’re willing to stay?”
Pursing his lips, he still felt slightly unsettled and was thinking of how to reject her without hurting her feelings when she smiled brightly at him. “Have a seat then. I’ll go prepare the food.” With that, she headed off to the kitchen, skipping along the way as though she could fly.
He watched her steps, and suddenly felt like he had been deceived when he remembered what George had said to him. The woman in front of his eyes was in high spirits and full of life. She doesn’t look like she’s unwell. That darned George. He would stop at nothing to get me to come here, even if it meant lying through his teeth.
It would be impolite for him to leave at that point so he took a look around and sat down on the couch. When he looked down, he saw the coat that was still in his hands. Naturally, he remembered the scene he saw in the room earlier.
That red bra—stop! He caught himself in time and did not allow his thoughts to stray any further. If he had continued, the perverted one would be him, and not the assistant.
Most of the time, however, the thoughts that get suppressed are the ones that try hardest to seep through and dominate the mind. Therefore, at that moment, Ye Moxuan only had the image of the red bra in his mind as he thought about its shape and outline. Then, he looked at the coat again and it felt like hot potatoes in his hands. He immediately tossed the coat aside.
Forget it. I better not take it. He did not want his imagination to continue running wild after that.
Meanwhile, Han Muzi was hustling away in the kitchen while a smile was plastered on her face the whole time. It was George who had sent her the WeChat message earlier and it was about Ye Moxuan.
Initially, she had believed it when he said he was only there for his coat. However, George informed her that Ye Moxuan had left the house immediately upon hearing that she was unwell, and he asked if Ye Moxuan had gone to look for her. When she read that message, she felt a warm and fuzzy feeling in her chest and her heart started to race.
Frankly speaking, the current Ye Moxuan was no different from before. He was always arrogant and harsh with his words, but he still solved all her problems for her behind her back and protected her in front of others. If he had used the coat as an excuse to come see me, then… I guess that’s a good thing. It proved that even though he had lost his memories, he was still extremely drawn to her.
While she was washing the vegetables, she pulled out her phone to reply to George. ‘Thank you.’
As though he had been waiting for her reply, he sent a question mark back immediately when he received her message of gratitude. Then, he urgently followed up with a few other messages.
‘F*ck, did he really go look for you?’
‘Ahh, what does this mean? I’m so hyped up. Why do you think he’s being difficult? Muzi, I’m practically convinced at this point. This guy, Yuchi, acts tough but he is soft-hearted and he likes you!’
That last sentence made her heart flutter. Instead of replying to George, she put her phone on silent mode and focused on cooking. She did not know how much time had passed when she suddenly heard a man’s voice from behind her. “How much longer?”
She turned around to see him step into the kitchen and coldly question her. She froze for a while and thought about it before giving him an answer. “About half an hour more. It won’t be ready just yet. Are you hungry already?” She turned the tap on to wash her hands and looked at him nervously. “Should I make you something quick first?”
Ye Moxuan saw the crowded kitchen counter and frowned. “You’re making so much food?”
“Um, just the basic—three dishes and one soup. Are you hungry? Do you want to have some noodles first?” She tiptoed to get the instant noodles that were on the shelf.
Seeing her on her tiptoes, he could not help but reach up to retrieve the item for her. “It’s fine. I don’t eat noodles.”
She was slightly disappointed. “Then…”
“What do you need me to do?” he asked all of a sudden.
“Huh?” Her eyes widened in disbelief. “D-Do you want to help?”
He avoided her eyes and kept a neutral expression. “I have to earn my keep, right?”
“It’s fine; I can do this myself,” she rejected him after pondering for a moment. “I think it’s better if you just waited for me outside.”
He stared at her and sneered, “Are you giving me the cold-shoulder?”
“N-No.” She shook her head in denial even though she was indeed giving him the cold-shoulder. Besides, he has never been in the kitchen before so how would he know how to cook? Letting him help might just create more problems.
He snickered and his demeanor turned unpleasant. “Looks like you really are giving me the cold-shoulder.”
“I’m not.” Sigh. She was left without a choice. “If you really want to help, then… you can prepare the fish.”
He started to unbutton his sleeves with a nonchalant expression. In his mind, he thought, This woman dares to underestimate me? He wanted to show her that giving him the cold-shoulder was a mistake.
However, when she lifted the pail with the live fish in front of him, he fell into a deep silence. He silently looked inside the pail at the fishes that were still swimming happily and his expression grew bleak. Then, he looked up. “You wanted me to prepare these?”
Her eyes gleamed as she nodded. “Yes. Is there a problem?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 793
Is there a problem? Did she just ask me if there was a problem?
His lips pressed together into a straight line. Under her curious gaze, he answered coldly, “Not a big problem.”
I’m just preparing fish. As a man, how can I not even do this much? He chuckled on the inside.
When he did not reply to her, she did not say anything else and turned around to resume washing the vegetables.
Ye Moxuan watched the fish swimming in the water, then at the knife she prepared for him. Suddenly, he felt the tension between his eyebrows. Why in the world did I agree to stay for dinner? No, never mind that. Why did I even come in here and volunteer to help? He figured a donkey must have kicked him in the head for him to have done so many things that even he found ridiculous. Despite feeling reluctant, he still reached in the pail with his hand.
Just as Han Muzi finished washing the cabbages and turned around to check on him, she saw a fish fly straight at her. She evaded a few steps to the side almost by reflex and the fish flopped onto the kitchen counter.
Plop-plop. When the fish landed on the kitchen counter, it started to struggle more because it was out of water. Bewildered, she looked in his direction.
Ye Moxuan looked like a mess—the sleeves of his shirt were wet and his face and hair were also drenched. She did not know how he ended up that way but he looked extremely awkward in that situation. His face was dull and it seemed like a dark cloud was hanging over him. Despite what had happened, he still looked at her with a cold gaze and, without a change in tone, said, “What are you looking at?”
She was dumbfounded. After coughing slightly, she regained her composure and shook her head. “Nothing. It’s just that your shirt got wet.” Then, she strode over to his side and picked up the fishnet that was next to the pail. “Why didn’t you use this? Fishes are slippery. You won’t be able to catch them with your hands.”
When she finished speaking, she returned to the counter where that fish was still jumping around and scooped it up. Then, she walked back to him and leaned down to scoop out a few more fish from the pail. Without a change in expression, she proceeded to slam the fish that were in the net against the sink.
Bang! Bang!
He felt the impact in his heart with each bang. He watched the woman whose arms and waist was thin enough for him to break with one hand slamming the fishnet against the sink with so much force. After a while, the fish that were jumping around livelily just before stopped moving.
He was speechless.
“It’s fine, I can do it. Your coat is wet. You should go and change out of it,” she said as she chucked the fish out of the fishnet.
While he was stunned by her actions, his eyes immediately narrowed when she said that. He replied coldly, “Do you think I’m a pervert like you?”
The knife in her hand hesitated for a moment and she remembered the incident from before. It made her uneasy so she decided not to say anything. When she did not feel any movement behind her, she figured that he was gone. However, she placed her knife down and followed him out. “How about I stop cooking for now and go buy some clothes for you instead?”
He glanced over at her. She was looking at him cautiously as though she was afraid of offending him. Like he was a tyrant.
He closed his eyes. “No need. Just do what you were doing.”
“Well then, remember to take off your wet coat. The remote control is on the cabinet at the front; you can turn the heater on for a bit so you don’t catch a cold.” After she advised him, she headed back into the kitchen once again.
The living room became quiet and he slowly opened his eyes. After pondering for a moment, he stood up and took off his outer coat only to find that the sleeves of his shirt were also wet. But the part that demanded more attention was the extremely unpleasant fishy smell on him. The thought of the fishy smell lingering on him unsettled him, and his expression turned grim. What sins have I committed?
Meanwhile, she prepared and sliced the fish efficiently then put it in the pot to cook. After that, she quickly washed her hands and went out of the kitchen. When she walked out and saw him, he looked helpless as he sat motionless on the couch. He had thrown the suit to one side and was only wearing a shirt while the house was freezing.
She quickly rushed to turn the heater on, then returned to his side.
When he sensed that she was getting close, he finally opened his eyes and looked at her. “Is it done?”
“It will be soon. If you weren’t wearing a coat, then you should have at least turned the heater on.” Stepping forward, she picked up the wet coat from the side and brought it to the bathroom. When she was about to walk back out, she happened to see him standing by the door. “What’s wrong?”
He stared at the shower behind her and felt a desperate need to use it as he was close to suffocating from the smell on his body. However, she looked oblivious as though she had no idea what was wrong.
“Come here.” He pursed his lips and kept his gaze on her.
Even so, she just ignorantly stayed where she was. Before she had the time to react, he reached out with his big hand suddenly and grabbed her delicate wrist, pulling her toward him.
Thud! She stumbled and fell right into his chest. Immediately, she was flustered and her heart pounded faster. What is he doing? Why are things escalating so quickly? Maybe he still has feelings for me, so that’s why—
Just as her thoughts were running wild, she heard his cold voice from above her. “Do you smell that?”
She looked up and met his eyes. “S-Smell what?”
“This fishy smell.”
She was rendered speechless. So he pulled me into his arms, not to hug me, but to make me smell the odor on his body? As she was flustered earlier, she failed to notice anything else. But now… After he mentioned it, she detected the fishy smell on his body. It must have been from the water that splashed onto him earlier.
She pushed him off right away and took a couple of steps back before she said, “You can use the shower to rinse yourself off. I’ll step out now.” With that, she started to leave. But as she walked past him, he grabbed her hand unexpectedly. “It’s fine. I’ll have George send some clothes over.”
She was dumbfounded for a moment and her face turned bright red. Have George, that big mouth, send some clothes over? Will I ever hear the end of it?
Just then, someone knocked on the door from outside. “I-I’ll go get that.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 794
Han Muzi opened the door and found George standing outside. When he saw her, his expression turned ambiguous then he smiled at her and whispered, “Wow. Progressing so quickly?”
She suppressed a smile and wanted to say something when Ye Moxuan’s cold voice came from behind her. “Did you bring everything?”
She turned around and realized that he had walked over to them. George hurriedly presented the bag with both hands. “Of course. How could I be careless with your request? Here you go.”
Ye Moxuan did not say anything and just looked at him with a strong and threatening gaze. He then took the clothes and entered the bathroom. Once he was gone, George lost his composure and went right up to her. “Muzi, Muzi. How are you guys progressing so quickly?”
She felt her head ache and reached up to pinch the bridge of her nose. “Don’t imagine things. It’s not what you think.”
“Not what I think? Then what is it?” George asked as he took off his shoes and walked inside. He reached back to close the door then said in a low voice, “He’s even taking a shower at your place. Come on, Muzi, don’t deny it. I just never thought that Yuchi would—”
She cut him off when she felt like he was about to get carried away with his words and told him about the incident in the kitchen. Only then was she able to stop him from talking.
As it did not turn out as he had anticipated, George’s lips twitched in disappointment. “Fine. You’re hopeless as well. You didn’t drag him into bed even though you had such a good opportunity.”
“Enough. Shut up!”
He giggled. “Muzi, I’m just looking out for you. He’s a handsome guy; a whole group of girls have their eyes on him. You even saw it for yourself when you came for the interview that day. Don’t you think you’ll feel more secure if you pin him down first?”
She looked at him helplessly. Even though he was saying all of that for her sake, he was too shameless. “If you want to spew more nonsense, then just get out.”
“No!” He quickly waved his hands to protest. “I smell freshly-cooked rice. Did you cook it?”
She nodded.
“Then I want to stay for dinner too.”
Unable to refuse him, she nodded her head in agreement. Then, he followed her into the kitchen. She estimated the time Ye Moxuan would take to shower and placed the food on the table right before he was about to finish. George was also there to eat so he made himself useful.
“Muzi, if Yuchi chases me out later, you have to back me up.” When he said that, he had leaned in closer to her and intentionally lowered his voice.
She was slightly astonished at what she heard. “Chase you out?”
“Yeah!” He nodded his head with some force. With Ye Moxuan’s insensitive personality, he will forget who took the trouble to bring him his clothes right after he steps out of the shower. He’ll just make me leave. I’m not leaving. I want to stay and eat here.
“He won’t do that, would he? Wasn’t he the one who asked you to come?”
“He did text me to bring his clothes over, but based on his personality…” Before he finished his sentence, they heard the bathroom door creak open. Just then, she finished placing the chopsticks on the table and both of them automatically looked in the direction of the bathroom.
After showering, Ye Moxuan’s hair was still damp and the skin on his neck was slightly red from the hot water. He stopped in his tracks when he saw both of them standing in front of the dining table. When he noticed that they were extremely close to each other—so close that George was almost stuck to her—he frowned deeply and gave George a hostile look.
Even though it was only for a brief moment, George felt daggers in his back. He looked over warily and saw Ye Moxuan’s intense and unhappy gaze fixated on him. He was stunned for a few seconds and quickly stepped back to distance himself from her while letting out a sigh in his mind. Dang. Yuchi’s possessiveness is overbearing! We were only close to each other but we didn’t even touch. Does he have to give me that look? God knows what he’d do if I touched her! Then, he instantly shook his head at the idea. Oh, I don’t even want to think about that. It’s possible, he thought, that Yuchi might tear me to pieces.
With that thought in mind, George smiled at him. “Yuchi. Are you done with your shower?”
After George distanced himself from the woman, the hostility in Ye Moxuan’s eyes faded slightly. Nonetheless, it was still there as he looked at him, and faintly said, “You’re still here?”
Han Muzi was just about to call them to the table but she froze when she heard that. She raised her eyes to look at Ye Moxuan, then at George. Earlier, she had doubted George when he said Ye Moxuan would chase him out after his shower. She never thought it would actually happen.
George looked over at her with pleading eyes. Since the man had always helped her, she decided to speak up for him. “I let him stay. It’s almost time for dinner now; come sit down.”
Aww. George was so touched he almost cried. Muzi backed me up. Moreover, it was while Yuchi was still giving me the cold look. He was extremely touched.
He then quickly walked to the dining table and claimed his spot. After he sat down, he winked at her and said in a low voice, “Wow, sis-in-law, you’re the best.”
She was bewildered. His voice was neither loud nor soft and only she heard it. But her rented apartment was not big either; what if Ye Moxuan had heard him? Smiling, she scooped a bowl of soup for him. As she handed it over to him, she bent down and said in a low voice, “He’s right here. Don’t call me that.”
“Okay. Thanks, Muzi.” Fine. Just act like I didn’t say anything.
Even though Ye Moxuan was not satisfied, he still sat next to George while Han Muzi sat across from both of them.
“Alright. Since we’re all seated, let’s eat.” Right after she said that, George lifted the bowl of fish soup and drank it. “D*mn. This fish soup tastes fresh and savory. Even the fragrance is good! Very delicious!” After the compliment, he drank another mouthful.
Meanwhile, Ye Moxuan’s jet-black eyes stared at the bowl of soup in George’s hands. He pressed his lips together tightly into a straight line. If I remember correctly, she scooped that bowl of fish soup for him.
His mouth twitched as he felt a strong desire—he wanted some fish soup too. However, he waited for a long time and she still did not scoop a bowl for him. That made him look at George with more bitterness in his eyes.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 795
It’s so delicious! I did not expect Muzi to be skilled in cooking too. I have to come here more often to eat now. George had those silent thoughts in his mind. After he finished it, he held his bowl up and looked endearingly at Han Muzi. “Can I have another bowl?”
Han Muzi glanced at him and laughed. He had an expectant expression on his face and looked like he was drunk on fish soup. It was an affirmation and compliment to cooks when other people enjoyed their food. Even though she was not a cook, she did prepare dinner today. Watching George enjoy her food was the biggest praise for her.
Naturally, she felt delighted. She stood up immediately and retrieved his bowl. “Sure, I’ll get some for you.”
At that moment, Ye Moxuan, who was sitting quietly the whole time, broke his silence and said harshly, “Don’t you have hands?”
The sudden voice stumped both of them. George met Ye Moxuan’s eyes and saw the ominous look behind his jet-black eyes.
George fell silent for a while then looked away as he stood up. “Let me do it instead!” Taking the bowl from her hand, he helped himself to the fish soup with a dejected heart. Hmph. Yuchi Shen must be jealous that I received a bowl of fish soup from Muzi and he did not.
It was then that Han Muzi realized Ye Moxuan did not take one bite since he sat down. Is the food not to his liking? She was not able to figure it out so she just grabbed a bowl and scooped some fish soup for him too. “Why don’t you have some warm fish soup first?”
George took a peek at Ye Moxuan. The latter looked at the bowl of fish soup in front of him and did a mental comparison. He saw that he had slightly more soup than George and his mind started to ease. He looked up and glanced at her coldly. At least you’re not tactless.
It was not that he was adamant about receiving a bowl of fish soup from her, rather, he was irritated that she had given one to George and disregarded him.
She finally saw him hold the bowl up to his lips and she waited as he drank some. When he placed the bowl back down again, she quickly asked, “How is it?” Since George liked it so much, it must mean that the soup is not bad, right?
Ye Moxuan did not say a word. She looked at him eagerly. Her small, fair face and anticipating eyes were calling out to him to compliment her.
“It’s delicious. Yuchi, your assistant has some skills. I think we should come here more often to eat now.”
Ye Moxuan’s expression quickly turned cold, and his voice also became apathetic. “It’s alright.”
At that moment, her anticipating eyes grew dark and lost their light while the smile on George’s face also fell. “You have too high expectations. Do you think everyone is like the prestigious cooks at the Yuchi residence? You should know better than to be so harsh when you’re at someone else’s house to eat.”
“It’s fine.” She quickly stepped in and explained, “I don’t think he’s wrong. I’m not a professional cook anyway so my food will not be excellent. Let’s just eat.” Then, she lifted her bowl and ate some rice. In truth, she had expected that answer from him. She did not expect him to compliment her as that would not be like him at all. She was content.
The image of her eating with her head down caught Ye Moxuan’s attention. He narrowed his eyes. Am I misinterpreting this? Why does it feel like she’s disappointed? What could she be disappointed about? That I didn’t compliment her? George had already showered her with compliments. Does she need my approval as well?
On the other hand, George was cursing at Ye Moxuan in his mind. Throughout that one meal, the three of them were thinking of completely different things.
After dinner, while Han Muzi put the bowls and chopsticks away in the kitchen, George took the time to give Ye Moxuan an earful. “I must say, Yuchi, is there anyone who courts a woman as you do?”
Ye Moxuan frowned. “What are you talking about?”
“Did I say something wrong? She worked so hard to cook that meal for you. Would one compliment have killed you? Would you lose a pound of flesh?” George closed in on him and said in a low voice, “Don’t say I didn’t warn you. You will never get her at this rate.”
Ye Moxuan gave him a look. That look made George tremble in fear. He then cleared his throat and avoided eye contact with him. “Just pretend I didn’t say anything. Hey, I just feel bad for your assistant, okay? She put her heart into this meal but did not get praised in return. As a woman, she might feel upset.”
Ye Moxuan did not respond. His phone rang suddenly and he looked down at the caller ID.
“Oh no! I forgot to settle the situation with Duanmu Xue before coming here. Could Grandfather Yuchi be calling to tell you off?” George explained urgently when he saw the caller ID on the screen.
Ye Moxuan calmly answered the call. “Grandfather.”
“You rascal! I asked you to look after Xue but where did you run off to instead?”
He pursed his lips then suddenly glanced at George and explained, “George got into some trouble and asked me to help him.”
After being thrown under the bus like that, George was rendered speechless. Wow. Who got into trouble and looked for whom to help?
“What? George, that little rascal. He will never learn. Don’t bother with him anymore and come home now. I have some important business to discuss with you.”
Important business? He narrowed his suspecting eyes and automatically looked in the direction of the kitchen, thereafter he bluntly said, “I’m afraid I can’t, Grandfather. I have other things to do right now.”
“Didn’t I tell you not to bother with George anymore? You’d better come home right away. This is very important.”
“I can’t talk now. I’m hanging up,” he said and hung up the phone on Yuchi Jin without a second word.
George’s eyes widened. “Important business? Could it be about your engagement with Duanmu Xue?”
Ye Moxuan did not say anything. His expression did not look good and his lips were pursed tightly.
George glanced at the kitchen. “I don’t think you can run away from this. Grandfather Yuchi will arrange for you and Duanmu Xue to get engaged. It will be hard for you to go against this.”
“It’s my life. I don’t need someone else to take ownership of it.” Nobody could. So what if it’s Grandfather?
“But he is your grandfather. Nevermind. I think this issue is quite serious. Why don’t we head back first? Running away is not the solution either.”
Just then, Han Muzi walked out of the kitchen and bent down to place a plate of freshly-cut fruits in front of them.
George spoke up, “Hey, assistant. It’s getting late. We have to return now.”
She was dumbfounded for a moment and looked down at the time on her watch.
It’s already seven. It is getting late indeed. She did not expect time to pass by so quickly but she eventually nodded her head. “Okay, I’ll send you guys down.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 796
Han Muzi walked them to the door and watched as they left after getting in the car. As she prepared to return to her room, the landlady came home. The landlady smiled happily and followed behind her. “I couldn’t tell that you had such a rich and handsome boyfriend.”
“Madam, he is—” Han Muzi started explaining.
“It’s alright, you don’t need to explain. I’ve experienced it all before, so I understand. Don’t worry about it; I won’t say anything if you bring your boyfriend over occasionally.” The landlady flashed her an ambiguous smile and went upstairs.
Feeling a little helpless, Han Muzi did not bother explaining further and simply went upstairs. Just before, her house had been lively with two other people in it, but pushing open the door now—she was the only person left. All of a sudden, she felt that the house was way too quiet.
Ugh. Humans really shouldn’t get used to certain things. For example, after staying in the dark for so long and seeing a ray of light suddenly, one wouldn’t be able to bear going back to living in the dark again. However, if one stayed in the dark forever, without seeing any light whatsoever, then they wouldn’t even know what it felt like staying in the bright lights. That way, they would never yearn for it.
She silently heaved a sigh in her heart. She began to tidy up the house only to find that Ye Moxuan had left the coat behind. “Didn’t he say he came over to pick up this coat? Why would he leave it behind again?” she retorted as she picked up the coat. Since he left it behind again, she’d have to temporarily keep it here for him. However, this time around, she didn’t dare to place it in her closet anymore. Instead, she hung it up on the balcony and prepared to take a bath.
Upon entering the bathroom, she noticed that Ye Moxuan had left his dirty clothes in the bathroom after his bath just now.
Han Muzi stared at the pile of dirty clothes in a daze; she thought of something suddenly, and her milky-white cheeks slowly turned red.
As soon as Ye Moxuan and George entered the door, the servant stepped forward respectfully and informed them, “Old Master is waiting for you in the study upstairs.”
“I got it.” Ye Moxuan went straight upstairs and headed in the direction of the study. George hastily followed after him, saying, “I’m guessing the grandfather and granddaughter of the Duanmu Family must’ve left considering their car isn’t around.”
“Yeah.” He answered indifferently.
“What if Grandfather Yuchi wants the two of you to get engaged?” George asked.
Ye Moxuan didn’t reply to the question; he already had a clear answer in his heart, and that was… he would never agree to be engaged to Duanmu Xue.
Knock knock—
“Come in.” Upon hearing that, Ye Moxuan pushed open the door to the study. Yuchi Jin, who was sitting in front of the study table, lifted his eyes. His eyes were aged but sharp and energetic. Sitting there, he exuded a powerful and majestic aura.
Seeing George following behind Ye Moxuan, he was convinced by the words Ye Moxuan said earlier. He snorted loudly, “Old man Joe is a good-for-nothing; he can’t even teach his grandchild properly and lets him cause trouble every day. George, how old are you now? Shouldn’t you be learning the ropes on how to help your grandfather manage the company? Don’t just fool around all the time!”
George had always been the black sheep of the family, so he wasn’t upset by Yuchi Jin’s insults to his face. He just approached him cheerfully. “Grandfather Yuchi, the company is fine with my father in charge of it. What has that got to do with me? Besides, if I had half the brains of Yuchi, why wouldn’t I help manage the company? It’s exactly because I don’t have the capabilities that I’m afraid of causing great losses for the company!”
Listening to George praising his precious grandchild, he felt happy inside. Even so, he scolded, “All you have is a silver tongue. If only you’d put more of your conversing skills and mindset into your career, your grandfather wouldn’t have to come here every other day to complain about you.”
“It’s too bad; I was born with a brain that can only develop in this matter. Everything else… is not possible.”
Yuchi Jin heaved a deep sigh and looked toward Ye Moxuan who had been silent since entering the room. He sternly said, “Have a seat since you’re already here. I have something important to discuss with you.”
Ye Moxuan walked over and sat down opposite Yuchi Jin. George was about to leave the room when Yuchi Jin called out to him. “You might as well take a seat too; there isn’t anything you can’t hear.”
“Thanks, Grandfather Yuchi.” George hurriedly pulled a chair over and sat beside Ye Moxuan. He knew that Grandfather Yuchi would allow him to stay. He just wanted to act for appearance’s sake, otherwise… he would look way too nosy.
Yuchi Jin sized up Ye Moxuan and seemed to be thinking about something. He was silent for a long while before he spoke up, “Xuan, what… do you think of Xue?”
George was speechless. D*mn, I was right! Grandfather Yuchi is raising the curtains on arranging Yuchi Shen and Duanmu Xue’s engagement! He looked toward Yuchi Shen, clenching his fists. Don’t let me down, Yuchi Shen; don’t let your assistant down, either!
Ye Moxuan raised his eyes and noticed his grandfather staring at him intently as if trying to figure out his emotions and reactions. He pursed his thin lips together, his entire body exuding a wave of cold air. “I don’t know,” he replied with these three words.
Yuchi Jin immediately scowled at his words. “What do you mean you don’t know?”
Ye Moxuan continued. “I never noticed, so I’m not sure.”
Yuchi Jin was at a loss for words. Ye Moxuan’s words indicated that he was not interested in Duanmu Xue, so he had never taken notice of her. Therefore, he did not know nor did he care.
George silently gave a thumbs-up to Ye Moxuan. He was just wondering how Ye Moxuan planned to answer, thinking that he would be polite in the face of Yuchi Jin. Who knew he wouldn’t give a d*mn about being polite.
Sure enough, Yuchi Shen nearly spat blood when he heard this. “W-What is with that attitude? What do you mean by didn’t notice and aren’t sure? When you were sick, Xue visited you every single day! She’s so kind-hearted, gentle, and caring! You must be blind if you can’t even see that much!”
“Grandfather… I never asked her to visit me,” Ye Moxuan replied.
“Why you!” Yuchi Shen got up in anger; he was about to lose his temper with Ye Moxuan.
When George saw what was happening, he quickly got up and supported Yuchi Jin. “Don’t get angry, Grandfather Yuchi. He’s just bad with his words and spoke too bluntly. How could he say that? However, I understand what he means. Let me explain it to you. Grandfather Yuchi, you know what Xuan’s personality is like: if he doesn’t notice, that means he doesn’t care. You can tell from this that he has no feelings whatsoever for the Young Lady of the Duanmu Family.”
Yuchi Jin felt that something was amiss with George’s words, and he narrowed his eyes to look at George.
George released his grip under the enormous pressure he felt from Yuchi Jin. He remorsefully added, “Grandfather Yuchi, Xuan is the precious grandson you finally found. Do you have the heart to force him to do something against his will? Although Duanmu Xue is really beautiful… but some things just can’t be forced, right?”
Having heard all that, Yuchi Jin coldly snorted. The walking stick in his hand banged loudly against the ground. “Great! I dare say you two have discussed this beforehand! So, did the two of you come here intending to go against an elderly man like me?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 797
“What are you saying, Grandfather Yuchi? You’ve made us sound like bad guys… How can you say we combined forces to bully you? I’ve just found out about this myself!” George smiled and reached out his hand to pat Yuchi Jin’s chest. His voice became considerably gentler as he cajoled Yuchi Jin.
“Hmph,” Old Master Yuchi coldly snorted and pushed George’s hand away roughly. “As if I’ll believe your nonsense! You rotten b*stard; are you the one that led Xuan astray?”
Hearing those words, George instantly widened his eyes and shook his head saying, “No, no, no. You know Xuan’s personality very well. How could I possibly influence his decisions?”
Yuchi Jin narrowed his eyes and looked over at Ye Moxuan. They might not have known each other for a long time, but Yuchi Shen’s personality was exactly like how George had described. Yuchi Shen may have lost his memories, but his core nature remained unchanged—he was headstrong.
One’s nature is deeply ingrained—it doesn’t change. At this, Yuchi Jin’s thoughts drifted to his eldest daughter. At that time… Xin was equally stubborn. She had refused to comply with his arrangements and relentlessly insisted that her decisions were correct—that was why she had ended up like that.
Thinking about Yuchi Xin, his eyes seemed to age considerably in an instant. That daughter of his had brought him a lot of heartaches. Therefore, Yuchi Jin’s gaze toward Ye Moxuan suddenly became less harsh. He spoke laboriously, “You two brats, get out of here. I want to be alone for a bit.”
“Grandfather Yuchi, are you okay? Should I stay back to counsel you?” George asked.
“I’m an old man, do I need a brat like you to give me advice? Scram; both of you get out.” Yuchi Jin picked up his walking stick and gestured for them to leave the room. George could only retreat quickly. Ye Moxuan got up too, his gaze falling on Yuchi Jin. He indifferently said, “We’ll be leaving then. Grandfather, take good care of your health.”
“Hmph!” Yuchi Jin coldly snorted; he turned his head away, ignoring Ye Moxuan.
George followed Ye Moxuan out of the study. They walked quite a distance away before George spoke up, “What does that mean? Is Grandfather Yuchi going to respect your wishes?”
Ye Moxuan didn’t respond, but his brows unwittingly furrowed deeply. It wasn’t quite as simple as he had previously thought—his grandfather’s decision this time did not seem like a spontaneous idea. Since it was not spontaneous, his grandfather wouldn’t give up so easily. His grandfather’s expression just now seemed like he was deep in thought about something else and simply did not wish to continue discussing this matter for the time being.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Don’t tell me you’re not the slightest bit anxious? What if he gets you engaged with Duanmu Xue right away?”
Ye Moxuan’s footsteps stopped abruptly, and he raised his eyes coldly. “You should head back first.”
“What do you mean by that? I’m trying to talk to you about something important, and you want to kick me out?”
“Can you change my grandfather’s mind?”
“It… doesn’t seem like I can. Fine, I’ll just leave.” After he said this, he turned around and headed in the other direction while muttering, “I’ll just go back and chat with the assistant on WeChat.”
“Stop right there.” Ye Moxuan’s cold, stern voice came from behind him.
George stopped walking and looked back, snapping crabbily, “What? Didn’t you want me to leave? What else do you want?”
“You’re not allowed to harass her.”
“What the hell?” George’s impatient expression instantly changed to one of amusement. “Finally showing your true colors now? Can’t help lashing out at me now?”
Realizing that Ye Moxuan’s gaze had turned sharp and cold, George hurriedly stepped back a few steps. “Alright, alright, I won’t tease you. In any case, you’ll just keep it all in your heart, right? You’ll never tell anyone. I’m leaving.”
While George left the Yuchi residence, Ye Moxuan walked toward his room. As he stepped into the bathroom, he paused mid-step—suddenly remembering something. The dirty clothes I changed out of… I left them behind in that strange woman’s house.
It was a brand-new week.
After resting for two days, Han Muzi’s body finally felt less exhausted and her calves weren’t as swollen and sore. However, work got more hectic after accumulating for two days. She had been so busy since early in the morning, that she didn’t even have the time to sit down and catch her breath. It continued until lunch. By then, she was so tired that she didn’t even have the energy to go downstairs to eat, so she simply slumped on the sofa like a corpse.
Miss Lin couldn’t help laughing when she saw her. “You have terrible stamina! We’ve only been running about all morning, and you’re already down for the count?”
Han Muzi felt slightly embarrassed at those words, and replied apologetically, “I’m sorry Miss Lin; I’m just really tired. I’ll be fine after resting here for a while.”
“It’s out of working hours right now, so you can rest however you like. Young people nowadays really lack exercise; if you’re free, you should wake up earlier in the morning for a jog.”
“I understand, Miss Lin. I’ll take note of it.”
As Miss Lin left, she casually helped Han Muzi close the door to the secretary’s office. Han Muzi lay on the sofa without moving and closed her eyes tiredly.
Ever since she got pregnant, she was constantly lethargic and felt drowsy at every turn. However, since Ye Moxuan’s accident, this condition of hers disappeared. Even if her eyelids were trembling from sleepiness, she forced herself to persevere. Whether she was managing his company for him back in their home country or working here, she had persevered through it all. Luckily, work ended for lunch at 11am. There were two to three hours of rest before she had to get back to work. She didn’t need to rush home; after eating, if she slept here for a bit, she could sleep for a little longer.
She slowly drifted off to sleep while she thought about this. She wasn’t even aware of anybody entering when the door to the secretary’s office opened.
George specifically came looking for Han Muzi. When he arrived, everybody had clocked out already. So, he could only go to the cafeteria to intercept her. Who knew that after waiting at the cafeteria for twenty minutes, he still couldn’t find her. He only came across Rory and called out to her to ask about Han Muzi. She said she had not seen Han Muzi come downstairs, either.
Therefore, George could only trudge upstairs to look for Han Muzi. Pushing open the door to the secretary’s office, he saw a figure curled up on the sofa. “Muzi! Muzi! Wake up!”
Han Muzi seemed to hear somebody calling her name in her sleep. The soft and gentle voice constantly echoed in her ears. However, her eyelids were too heavy—she couldn’t force them open. In her daze, she couldn’t even tell whether it was a dream or reality.
“Muzi, wake up! I’ll bring you to Yuchi.”
Yuchi… Who is Yuchi?
“This is such a great opportunity! Don’t let this chance pass you by! Muzi, stop sleeping…” The person straightened his index finger and prodded her shoulder several times.
Han Muzi’s sleeping bug was finally chased away and she slowly opened her eyes. What came into view was George’s unconventional facial features staring into her face curiously. “Muzi, you’re finally awake?” Seeing her open her eyes, George revealed a huge grin.
“Ah!” Han Muzi snapped to her senses suddenly and shrieked, her hand instinctively slapping George’s face.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 798
“Ow!” George yelped in pain and backed away, reaching up to cover his eyes with his hands. “Muzi, are you trying to kill me?”
“George?” Han Muzi sat up. Her heart was still beating wildly. “Why are you here?” The moment she opened her eyes, she saw his face up close, staring right at her. It’s easy to get frightened, alright?
He clutched at his eyes that were hit, looked at her pitifully, and whimpered, “I just wanted to create an opportunity for you and Yuchi, but…”
Watching him clutching at his eyes, she realized that she had lashed out in a panic just now. She didn’t even know where she had hit him. The back of her hand was aching slightly at the moment—to say nothing of how George must have felt.
“I’m sorry.” she sat up and looked at George apologetically. “Did I hit your eyes? I panicked when I saw you right in front of me the moment I woke up… That’s why I…”
Having said that, her gaze toward him was filled with guilt. “I’m sorry about that. Why don’t you take your hand away and let me check if you’re injured?”
Her serious and apologetic manner made him feel slightly embarrassed. He shook his head and removed his hands from his eyes. “Oh, I lied to you. I’m totally fine! Since you’re awake, hurry up and come with me, Muzi!”
“Where to?” She was puzzled. She saw that George’s eyes were slightly swollen, and she wondered if it would turn into a bruise later.
“I’m bringing you to Yuchi.” After saying that—regardless of whether she intended to agree or not—he pulled her up from the sofa. “Hurry up, Yuchi will leave the company if we dilly-dally any longer.”
“Okay.” Only then did Han Muzi hurriedly put on her shoes and follow him out the door.
As they walked along the quiet corridor, George said to her, “If you like Yuchi, then you have to make haste. You must not let the chance to have lunch together be wasted just like that! It’s a great chance for you to bond with him. You have to win him over before he gets engaged.”
At first, Han Muzi had been walking normally, but she stopped in her tracks suddenly when she heard those words. She raised her eyes and gave him a dumbfounded look. “W-What did you just say?”
“I just said…” Halfway through his sentence, he widened his eyes in shock and covered his mouth with his hands. Sh*t, I accidentally said too much! He didn’t know what kind of person she was. If she heard that Yuchi was about to get engaged, would she give up suddenly? Ahhh, what is wrong with me! How could I just casually let it slip out like that?!
“Muzi, I was talking nonsense just now. Please don’t get the wrong idea! How could Yuchi possibly get engaged so easily? He’s the kind of person whose nature is as cold as ice—there are barely any women that can catch his attention. I’ve known him for so long; you’re the only person I’ve ever seen him treat differently.” He desperately tried to salvage the situation, lest she changed her mind. However, her brows were tightly furrowed together—as if something grave had just happened.
“No… Muzi, I was just talking nonsense just now. Don’t take it seriously…”
Han Muzi lifted her eyes to look at him calmly and coldly. “If this kind of thing wasn’t true, how could you possibly have let it slip?”
Honestly, she knew Ye Moxuan’s personality very well. She knew he wouldn’t get engaged with another person; she also knew… that she was considered special, perhaps due to the feelings he had for her from before. Even so, he had forgotten about her. When she learned that he had lost his memories—that he had forgotten her—her heart was filled with anguish and sorrow.
He can forget about everyone else, but why did he have to forget about me too? Am I not important? Later on, she realized that it wasn’t his choice to get into an accident. If she blamed him for this, then she was just being unreasonable and nitpicking unnecessarily.
“Muzi, even if it was true, I told you just now too: Yuchi wouldn’t get engaged with someone so simply. Stop worrying about it.”
She said nothing. After giving him a cold look, she stepped forward and continued walking. But great changes were happening in her heart.
If one was to describe her as full of anticipation, joy, and hope before, then now, she was definitely… depressed and demotivated. A wave of sourness filled her chest. At the thought of him having a verbal engagement with or getting engaged to another woman, her heart ached unendingly—it was a mixture of all sorts of uneasiness. Halfway through, she suddenly stated, “I’m not feeling too well, so I won’t be going with you.”
George was confused. “Muzi, you can’t be like this. This is such a rare opportunity; if you don’t treasure it, what are you going to do if Yuchi gets stolen away?”
Han Muzi shrugged nonchalantly. “He’s not mine anyway. Even if he got stolen away, what could I possibly do? Besides, he’s not a toy; how can he be stolen?”
George was speechless at her words. That’s true. Yuchi Shen is a person; not an item. How could he be stolen away? “It’s all because I misspoke!” George suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face. “I shouldn’t have let my mouth run wild! Please forgive me, Muzi!”
The sudden slap across his face shocked her. Seeing that he was about to slap himself again on the other cheek, she hurriedly grabbed his hand. “Stop that! Don’t be like this!” He looked at her pitifully. “Are you really not going, Muzi?”
She was silent. “Alright, I’ll go with you.”
“That’s great!”
Han Muzi let out a silent sigh. “Why are you helping me like this? We clearly… don’t know each other well. Yet, you keep trying to match the two of us together. Aren’t you afraid I might turn out to be a bad person?”
“I believe that you are sincere toward Yuchi, and I also believe in my eye for people. Don’t worry, I’ll help the two of you. People mutually in love should be together, and not… separated like strangers.”
She noticed that his voice became considerably forlorn toward the end of his sentence, and so she couldn’t help asking, “Did something sad happen to you?”
George quickly hid the emotions in his eyes and replaced them with other emotions instead. “Something sad? What could I possibly be sad about? Let’s go! Let’s go!”
He walked forward, quickening his pace as he spoke. She stared at his back and mulled over it. George’s past… Forget it, why am I thinking about other people’s problems? Right now, her affairs were in a hot mess. If she couldn’t even get her affairs in order, where would she even find the time to bother about other people’s affairs?
Following behind George, they entered Ye Moxuan’s office together. They coincidentally ran into Ye Moxuan as he was preparing to leave with his coat and keys in his hand.
“Are you going out for lunch, Yuchi? That’s perfect! It just so happens that your assistant and I haven’t eaten yet, either; why don’t you bring us along?”
Han Muzi was speechless. Is it okay to demand so blatantly? If she knew George was going to do this, she wouldn’t have followed him here.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 799
Sure enough, Ye Moxuan’s gaze was cold as it swept over her before he withdrew it. He coldly replied, “I’m not free.”
Han Muzi was speechless. His cold, indifferent attitude was as if he had not eaten dinner over at her place last night, nor did he help her out in the kitchen. As such, she recalled George telling her about Ye Moxuan’s engagement matters as they were walking here just now. Bitterness rose in waves again and again; she subtly bit down on her lower lip and said, “There’s no need; I’ve already eaten.”
George turned his head back to look at her suspiciously; his gaze seemed to say: ‘When did you eat? Didn’t I try to intercept you at the cafeteria?’
“I thought you called me here due to work-related matters. Since it’s not, I’m going to return to the secretary’s office.” Without waiting for their reaction, she walked in the direction of the secretary’s office.
No matter how much she kept telling herself that she shouldn’t be nitpicky or acting unreasonably, the fact of the matter was that he was amnesiac. He was innocent and he didn’t know anything. But her heart still felt extremely uncomfortable, and the bitterness kept welling up.
After taking two steps, George chased up to her and spoke in a low voice, “Muzi, didn’t we discuss this beforehand? Why are you suddenly—”
“I’m not hungry. The two of you can go ahead without me; I’m going back.”
After she left, he remained frozen to the spot in a daze. He was feeling regretful. If he hadn’t spoken nonsense just now, nothing would have happened now, right? This is all my fault! As he thought about it, he turned back and glared at Ye Moxuan fiercely.
Ye Moxuan, who didn’t know anything, kept silent.
“Forget it! Forget it. Since we’re not having lunch, and you’re not free anyway, then I’m going back too.”
Ye Moxuan naturally did not try to hold George back. Later on, as he passed by the secretary’s office, his eyes subconsciously peeked inside, but he did not see her there. His brows furrowed unintentionally and his steps slowed slightly too. Nonetheless, he left without seeing her.
Han Muzi had not eaten lunch, and she couldn’t fall back asleep. Thus, she could only head to the cafeteria to get something light. As she was coming out, she ran into Rory. “Muzi, are you alright?”
“Huh?” Han Muzi’s expression was slightly confused. “What’s wrong?”
“That George guy came to the cafeteria looking for you just now.”
Han Muzi nodded. “I’m aware.”
“You’re aware?” Rory widened her eyes. “Why does he keep looking for you? Is it because of the President’s matters?”
Han Muzi stared at Rory intently. “Don’t be such a busybody; knowing too many things isn’t necessarily a good thing.”
Rory curled her lips. “Okay. I won’t ask anymore, alright? But you should stay away from George; he… doesn’t have a good reputation.”
“I see. Thanks for the advice.”
Rory could sense that Han Muzi was in a dismal mood today. Furthermore, Han Muzi wasn’t the type of person who was willing to share her troubles with other people. Why is she so introverted? She didn’t want to pry further, so she parted with Han Muzi.
…
In the afternoon, Miss Lin asked Han Muzi to brew a cup of coffee for Ye Moxuan. While she was making the coffee, she remembered the words George said to her at noon. She was so angry she dumped quite a few pieces of rock sugar into Ye Moxuan’s cup, then handed the cup to Miss Lin.
Miss Lin was busy and said, “I can’t leave my desk; why don’t you send it to the President’s office?”
“Miss Lin, what are you busy with? I can help you with it,” Han Muzi offered.
“No need. You can’t help me with these. Just hurry up and deliver the coffee to the office.”
Han Muzi had no intention to deliver the coffee to Ye Moxuan, and could only make excuses for herself. “Miss Lin, let me do it instead. If I don’t know how, I can learn.”
Miss Lin looked at Han Muzi’s eager and earnest expression. She paused what she was doing to stare at Han Muzi. “Hey. What’s the matter with you today? Isn’t it just delivering a cup of coffee? Why are you making so many excuses to avoid it? Did something happen?” Miss Lin was a shrewd person and could tell with a glance that Han Muzi was trying to make excuses.
Han Muzi didn’t expect Miss Lin to see through her excuses so quickly. The latter was even staring at her and carefully sizing her up. Feeling awkward, Han Muzi bit on her lip and answered, “It’s nothing, Miss Lin. Previously, you always delivered the coffee. I’m just worried the President would be upset if I went instead.”
“Tsk.” As if I’d believe you. With the weird vibe going on between you and the President, as if he would be upset if you delivered the coffee.
“Whatever. If the President gets upset, you can bring the coffee back here. I’m swamped with work right now. If you’re still unwilling to deliver the coffee, just leave it there. I’ll deliver it when I finish my work.” Miss Lin ignored Han Muzi after finishing her sentence and continued immersing herself in her work. No matter what Han Muzi wanted to say, she had no intention of replying. Right now, she looked like a scoundrel; her look seemed to say: ‘If you’re willing to deliver it, then deliver it. Otherwise, it’s not my fault if the President loses his temper.’
Han Muzi felt troubled and frustrated. She hesitated for a while, then reluctantly picked up the coffee and walked toward the office. After she left the secretary’s office, Miss Lin lifted her head again and looked meaningfully in the direction she left.
In front of the President’s office, Han Muzi knocked on the door while holding the coffee. After hearing Ye Moxuan’s order to enter, she carried the coffee inside.
When she entered, Ye Moxuan was having a video conference on the computer. The voices of other people came from the headset, but his gaze was unwittingly drawn toward the movement of the woman coming in through the door. He watched as she carried the coffee until she was standing in front of him. She placed it down on his desk and turned around in preparation to leave.
“Stay right there,” he suddenly called out to her.
She paused mid-step; her brows frowned subconsciously. Why did he call out to me? She turned her head back and gave him a doubtful look.
“Wait right there,” he coldly repeated.
She said nothing. In the following moments, she stood there unmoving as she watched him hold his video conference. If it were the past, she might have paid attention to the contents of his conversation and ruminated over it. However, today her mind and heart were a mess—she didn’t listen to a single word he said during this period.
In the meantime, he picked up the coffee and brought it to his lips then took a sip. As soon as he swallowed that mouthful of coffee, his brows immediately furrowed tightly together. Then, he glanced over at Han Muzi standing by the side. Her mood seemed as bad as it had been during lunchtime. It seemed like… ever since the first time they met today, she had never had a good attitude around him. He put his cup down and his eyes turned dark. When did I offend her? Not only does she not have a good attitude today, now… she won’t even brew the coffee properly?
After standing for a long while, her calves were getting sore. So, she spoke up, “President, if there is nothing else, I’ll be leaving. There are still many issues to deal with at the secretary’s office.”
Ye Moxuan didn’t reply. He continued conversing with the person on the other side of the screen as if he didn’t even hear her talk.
Seeing this, Han Muzi bit her lower lip, feeling slightly angry. He was busy holding a meeting and had no time to talk to her at all, yet he still wanted her to stand there waiting. Did he think that… she had entered on her own volition, so he was doing as he pleased?
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 800
Han Muzi was filled with fury, but she didn’t dare to simply turn around and leave, so she could only stand there while forcefully repressing the anger in her heart.
“Alright, let’s end this here.” Feeling that the woman’s facial expression and aura around her body were about to explode, Ye Moxuan promptly ended the seemingly endless meeting.
There was supposedly another half an hour before the end of this meeting. “Alright, we’ll discuss the rest tomorrow.”
After ending the video conference, he removed the Bluetooth headset from his ear and looked toward her. His gaze was deep; when his gaze fell on her, she straightened her back. A pair of clear eyes—like autumn water—stared back at him.
“Come here.” He moved his lips lightly.
“Why?” She was brimming with anger, and her anger was tinted with the sourness of knowing that he might be engaged to somebody else. This sourness was fuel for her anger—the stronger the sourness in her heart, the hotter the flames of fury burned.
Before this, she felt like she could take her time. After all, he had just recovered from serious injuries, so she wanted to give him a little more time to familiarize himself with her existence—to stimulate his memory. But, what about now? She heard from George that he was going to get engaged, and she had to win him over before he got engaged. What is this? It made her look like she was supposed to steal him away from another woman! The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt inside; her grievances seemed to overflow from within her eyes.
She didn’t bother to hide her expression as she stared directly at him. Ye Moxuan could see the grievances in her eyes, but he couldn’t understand the reason for them. Why is she feeling so aggrieved?
Since dinner last night, he had only met her again twice. Once in the afternoon, and once more right now. Don’t tell me… He narrowed his eyes and suddenly recalled the time when George had brought her along to join him for lunch. At the time, he had something to take care of outside. Moreover, seeing her and George walking so closely next to each other agitated him. In response, he had flippantly thrown out an ‘I’m not free.’ Don’t tell me… she’s hurt because of that?
At the thought of this, his insight gradually became clearer.
“I asked you to come here. Why are you not coming?” He reminded her after she simply questioned his reasoning and refused to step forward, remaining stationary.
Han Muzi unwillingly took two steps forward. “I’m here now. Please give me your orders.” It was a very impatient tone of voice.
Orders? Ye Moxuan raised his brows, pointing to the coffee on his desk. “Try it.”
Her gaze followed the direction his finger was pointing at; he wanted her to try that cup of coffee. Without even thinking about it, she shook her head in refusal. “I won’t.”
He scowled and gazed at her, displeased. “Are you going to try it or not?”
She stubbornly met his gaze. “No.”
“It seems like you know that you made a terrible cup of coffee. Is that why you refused to face up to it?” He deliberately taunted her.
Normally, she would secretly taste his coffee, but now that she was pregnant, she didn’t dare to drink too much coffee. She only ever took a sip just to taste the flavor. However, her mood was terrible today and she had added a bunch of sugar into his coffee. Even without tasting it, she could tell how the coffee tasted.
She met his gaze and pursed her lips, deliberately going against him. “I don’t want to try it, not because I didn’t make it properly, but because… you drank from that cup of coffee before.” She purposely raised her eyebrows as she looked at him. “Isn’t the President obsessed with cleanliness? You’ve already drunk from that cup, and now you want me to drink it? Don’t tell me you don’t know…” She trailed off her sentence without finishing it and lowered her gaze.
“Know what?” He glared unhappily at the woman standing in front of him. Didn’t she know that stopping part way through her sentence would arouse the curiosity of her listeners?
She stared down at her toes and crabbily continued, “Indirect kiss.”
Ye Moxuan was stunned.
Han Muzi said nothing for a while, then she realized what she had just said. Her head hung so low it could almost touch the ground. She anxiously bit her bottom lip and said, “Miss Lin is looking for me. I’ll be leaving now.”
She had just turned around when his voice traveled over to her. “Did I say you can leave?”
He got up, pushed his chair aside, and walked until he stood right in front of her. Seeing him approach, she couldn’t help blurting out, “Anyway, I won’t drink that cup of coffee no matter what. Gasp—” Halfway through her sentence, her lower jaw was grabbed by his fingers. He held her lower jaw and forced her to lift her head upward. Then, he lowered his head and stopped abruptly only a fraction away from her lips.
Their warm breaths began to intertwine. Han Muzi could feel her heart rate increasing. She looked at Ye Moxuan—he was so close that she thought he was going to kiss her just now. Nevertheless, he did not. He stopped just before their lips touched and his black eyes stared at her. “Are you disgusted by me?”
She was so nervous that she didn’t know where to put her hands. Alas, she held her sleeves, afraid of moving about. The distance between them was so small that if she so much as moved, she would touch his thin lips.
Although they had been intimate with each other to a certain degree in the past, she couldn’t control her reactions as soon as he came near her—her heart rate would increase wildly and she would feel shy. She was almost… instinctively trying to avoid him.
He could feel it—her resistance. Her twinkling eyes looked at him; she was so nervous she was stymied and her pink lips were trembling. He could not shift his gaze away once it fell on her lips.
Did she say… indirect kiss? Based on her expression, she seemed really against it. What if… As soon as the idea flashed across his mind, his body was already moving. He suddenly leaned forward slightly and his thin lips touched her soft lips.
The moment their lips touched, Han Muzi felt like a bunch of fireworks had exploded in her head. She choked out a whimper and took a large step back. Her eyes carried a touch of horror and incredulity.
He was unsatisfied by her reaction. As such, he frowned as he clasped her thin, white wrist and pulled her toward him. One hand holding the back of her head, he lowered his head in search of her lips. On the other hand, she was still feeling outraged inside and evaded him reflexively. However, his strength was greater and he was faster, so after a few attempts, he finally got what he wanted—her lips.
Even his heart trembled at the soft cotton-like touch and the light fragrance lingering on her body. Images seemed to flash through his head, but before he could capture them, they had vanished without a trace. Meanwhile, the woman in his arms was using her hands to push against him, trying to shove him away.
Ye Moxuan locked his brows together in a scowl. His arm simply tightened around her waist, holding her securely while his lips parted with hers. “Why are you pushing me away?” His voice was hoarse beyond belief, while his eyes were as dark as the night sky as he held her gaze intently.
Han Muzi’s waist was tightly locked in his arm; she was unable to push him away. Furious, she yelled, “Y-You scoundrel!”
