Chapter 176: Chapter 176 - Mr. King, your wife is a month pregnant

"What did you say?" Alex didn’t want to get his hopes up, but he remembered the doctor’s words when he arrived at the hospital. Could it be that the pregnancy was still viable, as Colton was suggesting?

"What makes you think I would believe you?" His expression was cold, and at this moment, he wanted to throttle Tess for what she had done to his wife.

"Please let me explain. When Joanna was taken by the paramedics, they explained the situation, prompting us to prepare everything before they arrived. The injury was to her head, but she was also miscarrying, so I saved both her and the baby," Colton concluded. Alex didn’t want to be deceived out of desperation, as this was not just about him.

Joanna had suffered greatly because of him, and he wanted justice for her by any means necessary.

"Since you were there when it happened, tell me the truth," Alex told Tess. She stared at her brother in tears as blood still oozed from her ears.

"We were talking, and Joanna got upset. I only put my leg in her way to stop her, but she fell and hit her head on the washbasin before her waist hit the floor."

Alex still couldn’t believe her because of what Violet had told him. "Her best friend told me that you had threatened to kill my baby."

Tess was full of regret. If only she had listened to her brother, they wouldn’t have been in this mess. From the looks of it, and with no ring on Alex’s finger, it was evident that the marriage was already crumbling.

Perhaps she should have waited for her time, and even if she never had Alex, she could have had her life and future to enjoy.

"I only said it to upset her, but I never meant it," Tess pleaded, feeling dizzy from losing so much blood. Colton was afraid but pleaded.

"Alex, if you don’t believe I saved your baby, then ask for a pregnancy test on your wife. But in the meantime, please allow me to treat my sister," he pleaded. Alex sighed. "Go ahead."

Dario was disappointed. This wasn’t the Salvador he knew, but before he could question him, Alex was on a call. It appeared he wasn’t using any of the doctors in this hospital and was instead employing the services of an external one.

As soon as he ended the call, he questioned Colton, who was scrambling for some medications in the storeroom.

As a doctor, he knew what was needed and first injected pain medications and another to stop the bleeding. The storeroom was filled with supplies, so almost everything he needed was there and more.

"I just wanted you to think she lost your baby so that when you see her with a child in the future, I could claim it as mine," he explained. Tess was sorry she didn’t follow his plan but was already losing consciousness from the medications.

"What about her damaged womb?" Alex asked. Colton replied with regret. "Her womb was seventy percent okay before the fall. She will still need a lot of bed rest to improve the condition of the pregnancy."

Alex was about to ask another question when his phone rang. It was the doctor he had spoken to. After exchanging a few more words, he ended the call as Dario said to him.

"Are you really going to let them go? Salvador is not so soft. Are you sure you are him?"

Alex glared at him. "You think you can do a better job?" His countenance was so intimidating that Dario cowered.

"I’m sorry, but the bitch doesn’t deserve treatment."

Colton was afraid of staying in the storeroom any longer. His sister needed proper care since one of her ears was already lost.

"Alex, trust me, your pregnant wife is fine. I have to move Tess to a ward."

Dario was boiling with anger and pain. How could Alex let these people go after all they did to his sister and wife? He was beginning to doubt if this was the real Salvador.

"Why the haste? The pregnancy has not yet been confirmed, and by the way, you made her forget me when you worked on her head injury. How are you going to resolve that, huh?"

Colton was sweating, and Dario’s trust in his boss was returning. Perhaps his boss had not lost his mind, as Dario thought.

"Oh, that. All her old and new memories would merge together after a few weeks if you take her to similar places and remind her of things you both used to do together."

Alex nodded, making a mental note of the solution. "Thanks for telling me, but I gave you your first chance, and you refused to change. You don’t expect me to trust you again, do you?"

Colton was at a loss for words, unable to talk his way out this time as Alex made a proposal. "How about this? You let me know Logan’s location, and I’ll let you and your sister go?"

Dario still didn’t like this because his men were already on the lookout for Logan.

"Boss, you don’t need his help for that. I trust my men," he implored, but Alex coldly retorted.

"Why waste so many resources when I can get the information right here and now?"

Dario pursed his lips, holding back his words. Colton was relieved, but there was a problem. He also had no idea where Logan was.

"Alex, I’m so sorry, but I don’t know. Recently, the number he gave me was out of reach, but he told me he’d be watching my back."

Alex gave no response, whether good or bad, but the sleeplessness was weighing heavily on him, so he called Aiden on the phone.

"I need coffee."

Aiden had the coffee delivered to Alex and Dario at the storeroom, including those outside.

"Are you thirsty?" Alex asked Colton. He indeed was. "Yes, I am, but don’t worry about me. All I want is for my sister to get treatment."

"But you already gave her treatment," Alex mused. Colton explained further. "I’m talking about IVs. These are merely first aids, and I need to use equipment."

Alex went quiet until his phone began to ring. Seeing the doctor’s number, he answered it.

"Mr. King, your wife is a month pregnant."

Joy spiraled through Alex’s heart as he clutched the phone tightly. "Thank you."

"It’s true, right?" Colton asked with excitement, but what Alex did next broke him completely.

Chapter 177: Chapter 177 – You are next

Without warning, Tess’s other ear lay on the floor as a shrill scream tore from her throat, crippling her brother. She had only been injected with a painkiller before, so it wasn’t strong enough to numb the pain she felt now.

"Alex, you cheated. You said you’d let us go," Colton was on his knees, crying like a woman, while Dario smiled with satisfaction.

All doubts were completely cleared, and he was now certain that Alex was not an imposter.

This was the Salvador he knew. Though they had never met before recently, Alex’s actions were in sync with those of the boss who had given him orders before.

"When did I make that promise?" Alex asked coldly, and Colton looked like he was seeing a different person.

Tess was in so much pain, but as she glared at Alex, he was no longer the attractive CEO she had fallen in love with.

His ruthlessness overshadowed his attractive features. Her pain was so intense that her tears couldn’t wash it away.

"Alex, please forgive me," she cried helplessly. Alex squatted in front of her, his expression dark.

"You know what, you are very bold. You infiltrated my sister’s safe house and drugged her water," he laughed tauntingly as pain settled in his eyes. "There are four women dear to my heart. You want to know who they are?"

Tess was in so much pain, but her curiosity got the best of her as Colton was partially unconscious due to Dario’s punches.

It was the only way to calm him down since he was still trying to protect his sister.

"No," Tess cried, and Alex smiled a little. "The fourth is my mother-in-law. She’s untouchable because she gave birth to my wife."

That was understandable, so Tess was curious to know who the third was, though she slightly guessed Dion and Joanna were among the three.

"The third is Violet, my wife’s best friend because she genuinely loves my wife, and you had the audacity to send her to jail for avenging my wife?" Alex’s gaze was so piercing that Tess lowered her head.

From the look of things, her hope was slowly fading as Alex continued to list her crimes.

"I believe you know who the second woman is. Yes, my only sister, Dion. You sure have some nerve to drug her. How did you even get in?" Alex questioned, and Tess did not have it in her to lie when everything was out in the open.

How could she have known that Alex would find out about her wrong deeds so soon?

"I bribed the daycare giver," she revealed. Alex paused, picked up his phone, and instructed his head of security.

"Eliminate the daycare nanny and find her replacement. Her character was questionable the moment she accepted a bribe."

Tess fainted instantly. She had discovered today that Alex was ruthless, but the extent of it was what stunned her.

That lovely caregiver was going to be killed just because she accepted a bribe. A glass of cold water was poured on Tess, and she gasped and opened her eyes.

"You can’t kill her. She’s innocent. She only accepted the money because I attacked her mother and used her against her. Please, don’t kill her."

Alex quickly redialed the number. "Hold on with the order." After receiving confirmation, his attention returned to Tess for the details after instructing Dario to wipe her bloody face so he could take a closer look.

"You know what, I really underestimated you." For some reason, he could not blame the caregiver since her betrayal was due to another life she was saving.

"Please, Alex, I have loved you ever since I laid my eyes on you years ago, but Joanna took you away from me."

Alex scoffed as he glared at her. "Gloves," he instructed, and Dario handed him a pair of black gloves. After rising to his feet and fixing the gloves well, he lowered himself again and squatted in front of Tess.

"You know what you deserve?" His tone was scary enough to send the signal that Tess was going to die.

"Alex, please, punish us, but don’t take our lives," Colton pleaded as he slowly rose to a sitting position. Dario instantly prevented him from getting close to his sister as Alex responded to his plea.

"Don’t forget I gave you that chance before by making you switch to another hospital, but what did you do?" He asked, and Colton was only left with regrets.

By then, he could have lived his normal life but decided to join forces with Logan to expose Alex and have Joanna.

Was it worth losing their lives for? It was too late for him to realize that it wasn’t worth it.

"I’ve learned my lesson now. Please, I promise not to fail you again."

Dario’s fingers balled together. He knew their kind. As soon as Alex let them go, they would surely find better ways of revenge.

"Sir, I hope you are not going to do as he’s requesting."

Alex glared at him, but his gaze settled on Tess again. "You know your final crime? You had the guts to touch the only woman I ever loved and put her and my unborn child’s life at risk."

His fingers wrapped around her throat as he rose to his feet, lifting her up with him as she hung in his hand like paper.

Tess was struggling to catch her breath as the air to her lungs was continuously reducing.

"Please," she was saying when Alex slashed her throat with the knife, blood sputtered on the floor, and her body fell in it. Only her head remained in Alex’s hand as a shrill tore from Colton’s throat.

"Nooooooo."

He realized that the storeroom had been soundproofed by Dario and his men because no sound he made got anyone to come to his aid.

Alex threw Tess’s head in front of him. "This is what happens to anyone who messes with my family. You are next."

Chapter 178: Chapter 178 – I’m gonna be there for you

Alex was ready to give Colton the same shameful death as his sister but the later said something that made him reconsider.

"What will you tell your pregnant wife when she wakes up? Don’t forget I’m the only one she remembers here and her mental instability can affect the baby if you push her too hard."

Colton had gone so far in making himself useful in Joanna’s life but not for long.

Alex was certain about it because of the love they shared but was only saddened to not have taken advantage of what they shared.

Joanna had pleaded with him to not end the marriage but he was bent on keep his promise to Dion, thereby entertaining Tess and endangering the life of both Joanna and Dion.

For the first time, even Dario had to agree that Colton had a point. Alex went into deep thought.

Tess’s remains laid on the floor and he knew that Colton would revenge if given the chance but for as long as he remained with Salvador’s men, there would be no means of escape for him.

As soon as Alex was able to move Joanna back to Manhattan, Dario could complete the job and send Colton when he belonged.

Having arrived at a conclusion, he instructed Dario. "Get some cleaners to clean this mess and lock him up. I will give the order when the time is right."

Colton had hope that for as long as he was alive, there was hope for him. Alex ruthlessly killed his sister in front of him.

Though expected, Colton had planned to escape it but sadly, it was too late.

Alex removed the gloves from his hand but before reaching the door, Dario reminded him. "There are blood stains in your shirt."

He couldn’t let Joanna see him like this. "Okay, I will find one of the empty wards to shower first. Send me some clothes."

Dario bobbed his head and after giving Colton some more beatings, he was tied up and taken out of the hospital and left in a van in his unconscious state.

Dario made sure that even if Colton woke up, he would never be able to survive the beatings but still left one of his men in the van, just in case.

Joanna was still sleeping when Alex returned to her ward but so was Violet and Aiden. The two sat on chairs, laying their heads on the bed beside Joanna.

Alex smiled, knowing that Joanna had someone she could trust with her life even if Alex was not in it. However, his presence awake Aiden and the latter quickly asked. "How did it go?"

"The bitch is gone," Alex announced, the same time Violet woke up as Aiden asked. "And Colton?"

Alex stared at the sleeping Joanna and after making sure she wasn’t hearing anything, he replied.

"I have to make sure Joanna is fine first. He’s the only one she over here so, you two, can return," he instructed but Aiden gave a suggestion.

"Why don’t we leave together and isn’t it better for your family doctors to take care of her?"

Alex had even forgotten about the family hospital ever since he got here and purchased this one.

Recalling what Colton had mentioned about Alex doing the things he used to do with Joanna before, returning home would be the best option.

He quickly arranged for Joanna to be moved to the private jet. Then he instructed Edmund to send someone to manage the hospital before flying back to Manhattan.

"You two can go home," Alex said when they arrived at the airport. Aiden agreed but Violet refused.

"No way. I’m gonna be there for Joan."

Alex loved that she wanted to be there but with Joanna’s memory lost, it wasn’t advisable to have too many people around her as that only increases her confusion.

"Thanks for always being there for her but don’t forget she lost her memory. One day at a time," Alex advised, Violet smiled but it was a sad one.

"Okay, I’ll go rest and come check on her tomorrow." They went to Miami in full spirits of having fun like they did in the other cities they went to but Tess had to ruin everything for them.

Then again, if that had not happened, then they would not have been reunited with both Alex and Aiden but Violet knew that sooner or later, they would have still crossed paths even if the accident had not happened.

There was so much Alex needed to do but also wanted to be there for Joanna so he asked Aiden.

"How is your day like?" This was something he wanted to do by himself but there was no way he would leave Joanna’s side in this condition.

Aiden smiled as he stared at Violet longingly. "I forgot to tell you she’s now my girlfriend. I’m gonna spend some time with her."

Alex was glad. This was the first time Aiden mentioned being in a relationship and even considering the risks, Alex knew Violet was the best woman for him.

"That’s good news but later on, you bring Dion over to the mansion."

Aiden was lost for words but was happy everything was finally coming together.

"Are you sure about that?" He asked, Alex nodded. "It’s about time but I’ll still keep her low key for a while. At least until Joanna regains her memory."

"Hey Alex, do you think we could come spend a few days at your house later? I mean after Joanna gets better," Joanna asked, Alex smiled.

"Of course. You two are my family now so my doors are always open."

He watched as Aiden lifted Violet in his arms, the latter wrapped her arms safely around his neck.

"How about I get her pregnant?" Aiden asked teasingly, Alex warned. "Make sure to marry her first."

Aiden never considered a relationship but not only was he ready to start one with Violet but was already talking about starting a family, which only meant the mega question was on the way.

Violet laughed as their lips met. Aiden’s passionate and warm kisses were enough to turn her on.

"Where do we go now? My place, or your place?" She asked, Aiden was about to respond when Alex beat him to it, paralyzing his intentions.

Chapter 179: Chapter 179 – You are pregnant with our child

Alex was carrying Joanna off the jet when he heard the question and yelled, "His place, Violet. You should know all the stuff he’s involved in."

The fact that Aiden never allowed any woman into his house made Alex think it would be unwelcoming. Perhaps it could ruin his moments a little, especially when Aiden recalled leaving some torture tools exposed before he left the house.

It would have been better for them to go to Violet’s house since he had never been there, but all the same, Alex had to carry the blame.

"It’s the stuff you put on me." He was the one who made him run out of the house like he was crazy, making him leave some things where they should not be, and Aiden would never let in a domestic worker when he was not there to supervise them himself.

Inside the private jet, Alex carried Joanna to the car when Ike arrived, happy to see them together.

"Madam is back?" The fact that his boss wouldn’t look like a dead man walking anymore was heartwarming.

Alex did not answer and carried Joanna to the back seat. "To the Kings family hospital," he instructed, Ike stiffened momentarily. "Is she sick?"

As his chief driver and personal bodyguard, Alex didn’t want to hide it. "She underwent surgery after a head injury. She’s also pregnant."

He still could not believe he was going to be a daddy soon. Grandpa would be so excited. Ike was sorry for the accident but glad the madam was pregnant.

They were finally going to have a little madam or a little sir running around the mansion.

Joanna woke up midway, pain searing through her abdomen due to the stitches as well as her head. She couldn’t discern which was more painful, her head or her stomach.

"Ouch," she cried when she tried to remember her environment, lifting herself to a sitting position. Opening her eyes, she glared at Alex. "You again? Where is Colton?"

She couldn’t understand why this handsome man would not leave her alone, but his expressions showed that he cared about her.

"I left Colton in Miami," Alex replied, hoping it would put her at peace. If she insisted, she could have him cleaned up and put on a video call.

Dario would know how to make Colton speak like nothing was wrong with him, and expectantly, Joanna insisted on it.

"No, I want to see him. How could you take me away from my boyfriend?"

Alex wanted to go as planned but still thought about exhausting his options first.

"Joan, I’m your husband." She stared at him with disbelief as she tried to endure the pain, but Alex was disheartened by the way she shook her head.

"Fine! You don’t believe it? Let me show you some videos."

Pulling out his phone, he saw how her face squeezed and grew worried. She must be in pain to be sweating and frowning like that.

"Ike, faster." He wrapped his arm around her, and for some reason, she didn’t push him away. The pain was too intense to engage in any form of disagreement.

"I want to see Colton," she murmured. Alex felt like he was making progress and refused.

"I’m sorry you can’t see him." He was about to say more when he remembered the warning concerning her mental health. Joanna had a lot to say, but the pain was too unbearable.

"Am I going to die? My head and stomach hurt."

Alex was pained to see her like this, wishing there was much he could do for her. How he wished she had been asleep until after they arrived at the hospital.

"No, you aren’t going to die. We are at the hospital already."

Swiftly, he carried her out of the car as soon as it stopped and was met halfway by the doctors. They had already been informed before Alex left Miami and even sent an ambulance, but it seems Mr. King made his own arrangement.

"Mr. King, we shall take it from here," one of the doctors said. Alex did not refuse because over here, he knew Joanna was safe.

The doctors were loyal to the Kings, so one would be able to infiltrate.

Not tracking the speed of time, the emergency doors opened, and Joanna was wheeled to a VIP ward.

With it being the CEO’s wife, this VIP room was special, having an extra bed for Alex, food, and everything else they might need, blending luxury with medical care.

It wasn’t long when Joanna’s hallucinations started again. "You forgot to tell me your name, but I will find you. I couldn’t protect Nancy, but I will protect you."

Tears welled up in Alex’s eyes. His harsh words during the early stage of their marriage made him feel immense guilt.

No wonder Monica never cared to let Joanna get treatment. She had been tormented by the memory of Dion after they parted ways.

Alex imagined how hard things must have been for Monica during those times and was glad to have given her all the luxurious treatments she was receiving now.

Thinking that Dion was suffering, Alex realized Joanna had suffered too. Only if he had known the woman he was searching for had been right in front of him.

"Angel, Dion is fine. If you get better, you will see her."

Joanna’s eyes snapped open, filled with when their gazes locked. "You. Why do I keep seeing you?"

Alex sighed helplessly, missing the woman who broke all his rules and captured his heart when she was the same woman he was reserving it for.

"You are pregnant with our child, Angel. These are videos of our wedding. I’m your husband, and I love you so much."

His thumb swiped the screen of his phone, settling on their wedding videos before he gave it to her.

As soon as Joanna began watching the videos, her headache intensified. "Ah, my head aches."

Alex called the family doctor. "You have to tell me what is wrong with my wife."

Chapter 180: Chapter 180 – I Don’t Remember You but Your Eyes

Alex expected Joan to get better, especially after the person behind her condition had informed him that reminding her of the old things would help her regain her memory.

Was he playing with Alex or helping him? Alex had no intention of going back to Colton for help.

The only reason the bastard was alive was because of Joanna, and as soon as she was able to get along with anybody else who wasn’t Colton, then Alex could freely give the order for Colton to be eliminated.

Joanna had fallen back into a state of unconsciousness after the doctors managed to stabilize her, but after the various test results, it was time for them to report their findings.

"There is a high dose of a psychoactive drug in her system," the doctor explained. Alex was furious for being deceived.

Colton had some guts in deceiving him about Joanna’s condition. No wonder he insisted on being around the moment Joanna woke up.

"Whoever used it must have loved or hated her to experiment with such a high dose at once. It’s as if forcing her to remember things she has long forgotten and to forget things she already knows. If given the right dose, she wouldn’t have problems trying to remember the present like the past."

The doctor let out a frustrated sigh before he continued his explanation. "Her forcing herself to be in the present when she’s locked in the past is the cause of the headaches," he concluded, tempted to ask about whoever administered the drugs to Joanna but was afraid that Alex might rebuke him.

"Do what you have to do to make her better," Alex said in a pleading tone. The doctor was amazed. The Kings were only known to give orders, and yet, Alexander King himself was begging, which showed just how much he loved and cared for his wife.

"We are trying other medications to counter the effect of the other so she might continue hallucinating for a while."

The mention of medications put Alex on edge as he thought to remind the doctor. "I hope you know she’s pregnant. I don’t want anything to affect her or our child."

The doctor knew how damned he would be if anything happened to either Joanna or their unborn child.

"Of course, Mr. King," the doctor smiled, glad for the Kings to finally have an heir.

Hours passed, and Violet had called twice to check on Joanna, and during one of such moments, she asked Alex, "Has Aiden had a girlfriend before?"

Alex was confused because the answer was no and asked her, "No, but why do you ask?"

Violet was slightly reluctant but hoped Alex wouldn’t give her away. "Please don’t tell him that I told you, but I saw female clothes in his closet."

She was tempted to pick one and wear it after her shower but couldn’t stop wondering whom they belonged to.

Alex laughed before responding. "Have you tried any of them? He must have purchased them for you."

He was surprised Aiden had bought stuff for Violet even when they had broken up because there was no other woman in Aiden’s life deserving of that attention.

For some reason, Alex stayed on the line since Violet hadn’t ended the call.

A few minutes later, she was apologizing. "Thanks for telling me. I’m so sorry for doubting him. It won’t happen again."

A proud smile stretched Alex’s lips, knowing that Aiden wouldn’t cheat. However, he wasn’t offended because Violet had been through a lot in the hands of cheating men, so it was understandable for her to be constantly suspicious.

"That means the clothes fit," he replied teasingly. Violet smiled shyly and replied from the end of the line. "It fits perfectly."

It was a satisfying moment for Alex that Violet called him to inquire, rather than jumping to conclusions, and decided to inform her.

"Well then, you should know you are the first woman he sent home."

Violet was flattered, glad to finally meet a one-woman man. "Alright, thanks for letting me know, but do inform me when Joan wakes up, and I’ll be there with her mom."

Recalling how Joanna sought her mom, Violet felt that bringing Monica along would be a treat.

"That will be very appreciated, but as soon as all this is over, I will greatly reward you," Alex said honestly, but Violet was rather upset.

"I did it for my best friend, so keep your reward to yourself, Mr. King."

Alex chuckled but did not say anymore. Hours passed before Joanna finally woke up again, but this time she was calm.

Alex was by her side, surprised when she asked him for water and did not push him away. She stared at Alex’s gentle ways and though she could not remember him, she knew that he cared.

After emptying the glass, Alex asked if she wanted more, but she shook her head. "It’s enough for now."

The moment he dropped the drinking glass and stared at her, something caught her attention, and she spoke.

"I don’t remember you, but your eyes. It’s as if I’ve seen them somewhere before."

Alex didn’t know where this was going but felt it was a good start, especially when she hadn’t mentioned Colton like she always did whenever she woke up.

Perhaps she was getting used to not seeing him again, and if this continued, then Alex could go ahead and eliminate Colton before he became a menace.

"Are you sure it wasn’t the video I showed you?" He asked. Joanna raked her mind but eventually shook her head.
