Ch. 86..90: OMG My Crippled Husband is a Hot Powerful CEO Chapter 86-90
Chapter 86: Chapter 86 - Let me talk to the woman
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies are gray, you never know dear, how much I love you, please don’t take, my sunshine away."
Alex calmly repeated the song a couple of times until the crashing of items stopped. He continued until he heard the caregiver’s voice.
"It’s alright, sir, she’s sleeping now."
Alex was relieved. Whenever Dion was this enraged, she would usually sleep it off after hearing the calming song. "Let me talk to the woman," Alex requested seriously.
He considered making her stay with Dion until the wedding was over, but the caregiver informed him,
"She left earlier."
Alex was skeptical about her sudden departure, having in mind to check the surveillance cameras later.
"Send me everything you have on her," he instructed the caregiver, who seemed to have a rehearsed response.
"Sir, Dion insisted she was the one who saved her. They seemed to get along, even sharing a meal together, but she left after receiving a call, and that’s when Dion called you."
Alex inquired, "Does this mysterious woman have a name?"
The caregiver hesitated before replying, "I’m very sorry, sir, but only Dion knows that."
Feeling uneasy, Alex decided to investigate this woman further. "Gather all the information you can when she shows up again."
It had been long since he checked the surveillance cameras there and tried to do so only to realize there had been a fault.
"Alright, sir," the caregiver responded before ending the call. Alex returned to the dining table, disappointed to find it empty.
Realizing he had been on the phone for almost an hour, he knew Joanna must have grown tired of waiting for him.
He didn’t excuse himself and failed to communicate the order he wanted.
Should he knock on her door? After considering the inconvenience of his wheelchair, he decided against it and opted to send a text message instead.
’Sorry, I should have excused myself. Is it possible to place my order now?’ he texted. Waiting for a response, he realized Joanna might be asleep by now.
He almost canceled the message, typing on his phone. ’You know what? Forget it,’ but then received a notification from her.
’Sure, what do you want?’ Joanna replied promptly.
’Will eggs benedict be too much?’ he asked. Joanna assured him, ’Sure. It will be ready before you wake up.’
Alex smiled and then asked, ’And my apology? Is it accepted?’
In Joanna’s room, she was initially confused but upon rereading the text, she responded, ’Is it about excusing yourself? Well, you owe me no explanation, remember?’
Joanna cried and was about to give in to sleep before seeing the notification of the text message.
Initially, she debated whether to respond, but she reminded herself that their relationship was strictly business, and emotions were off-limits.
Observing Alex’s abrupt departure from the table after a phone call, she realized she held no significance to him.
It was best for both of them if she accepted this reality and played her role accordingly.
Alex’s brows furrowed as he read Joanna’s response, sensing something amiss but unable to pinpoint it. "Thanks," he replied, though sleep eluded him.
He couldn’t shake off the curiosity about the woman who had saved Dion.
Despite his discomfort around women, he found himself at ease with Joanna, even enduring Violet’s presence because of her.
However, he couldn’t shake off his apprehension about the mysterious woman who had rescued Dion.
What if he found her unappealing? Nevertheless, he had made a commitment, and he would honor it, no matter what.
Struggling to sleep, Alex turned to his laptop, working until he drifted off in the early hours of the morning.
Recalling the night he had shared a room with Joanna at the Baker’s mansion, he remembered the difficulty he had falling asleep, but once he did, it was a deep slumber.
Unfortunately, urgent matters demanded his attention, forcing him to depart earlier than planned.
The next morning, Alex woke up with the laptop on his lap. Putting it away, he felt strangely excited for breakfast and quickly got ready for work.
As he opened the door, the delicious scent greeted him, but Joanna was not there as usual.
"Betty, where’s my wife?" Alex asked, a serious expression on his face. Betty smiled, though it seemed forced.
"She left early after preparing breakfast for you," Betty replied.
"Did she eat?" Alex inquired, noticing the worry lines on his face. Betty shook her head,
"No, she took her portion to the office."
Alex felt a pang of sadness but then remembered that Joanna had mentioned needing to finish some work at the office before the wedding.
He relaxed and proceeded to finish his meal, surprised by the generous portion Joanna had prepared. Betty’s expression revealed her astonishment, though she remained silent.
Upon seeing this, Alex became worried about the timing of the divorce. What would happen to all these delicious dishes?
He suddenly remembered his late mother’s belongings, where the recipes were kept. If he could retrieve them and give them to the chef, he could continue to enjoy the meals even after the divorce.
Upon arriving at the office, Aiden was there again. "Alex, I’m sorry for not informing you," he said.
"It’s not the first time," Alex replied nonchalantly. Aiden then spoke directly,
"About the Salvador role. I thought about it all night, but unfortunately, I can’t take it."
Alex stared at him intently. "I’m not asking for your permission. It’s an order. If anyone asks, tell them you are him."
Aiden understood the underlying motive for Alex’s actions. If he handled the inquiries about Salvadore well, he wouldn’t have to accept the role.
Therefore, he decided to come up with a valid excuse for why they wouldn’t be able to see Salvadore. "I understand. I’ll talk to you later."
Alex immersed himself in his work, not responding to anything else. During lunchtime, he had food delivered to Joanna and received a response from Jack.
However, there was no mention of their return home.
Concerned, Alex tried calling Joanna, but her phone was switched off. He then tried Jack’s number, only to hear the automated message indicating that the phone was also off. Panic set in.
Chapter 87: Chapter 87 - I’m the one who saved her
In a secluded location, a man casually removed his doctor’s coat and turned to the woman beside him.
"How did it go?" he inquired.
The woman smiled, her slender fingers elegantly running through her curly hair.
"It went perfectly, but I could only bribe the day, caregiver. The night one remains unaware of our actions."
The man furrowed his brow and sat down beside her. "And Dion?"
The woman’s smile widened as she recalled her encounter with the young woman. By adding something to Dion’s water, she had successfully convinced her that she was her savior.
"She now believes I’m the one who saved her. How did you manage that?" she asked curiously, prompting a chuckle from the man, who felt a sense of triumph.
Avoiding direct confrontation with the enemy was crucial to avoid detection, so he operated from the shadows, closely monitoring Alex.
"It’s a special drug. You’ll need to go back again. I can’t allow Alex to marry Joan. She belongs to me and always will."
"He appears to be wealthy," the woman remarked seriously, to which the man nodded in agreement.
"Yes, and formidable. But as long as he remains unaware of your involvement, we have the upper hand."
But Dion is so cute," she smiled, relishing the time she spent with the little girl.
"That’s why you should marry Alex and be close to him. I have a lifetime supply of that drug," he said earnestly. If Alex marries his sister, then Joanna would be his.
There was no way he was going to let Joanna go, having lost her once. If given the chance, he would have treated her memory loss, but Alex had to intervene and prevent him from seeing Joan, claiming her to be his wife.
"Side effects?" His sister asked, and Doctor Colton pursed his lips thoughtfully.
"The side effect is what makes her see you as her savior. Just make sure the wedding doesn’t happen."
Over a week ago, Colton was on his way home from work after Joanna had promised to have dinner with him when he was ambushed by strange men.
He was taken to an unknown location, and waiting for him there was a man in a wheelchair.
Colton was taken aback by the man’s directness and asked seriously, "What do you want?"
The man did not beat around the bush as Colton expected, telling him directly.
"You are meddling with my wife, and I am considering either killing you or transferring you," the man in the wheelchair threatened.
Colton felt his heart race as he realized the seriousness of the situation. The man’s threat indicated there was more to him than Colton had initially thought.
"I will accept the transfer and assure you that I will never see her again," Colton replied, trying to diffuse the tension.
Alex was skeptical of Colton’s sudden compliance, sensing that there might be ulterior motives at play.
"Why did you give in so easily? I thought you loved her," Alex questioned.
Colton’s smile was devoid of warmth as he responded, "What good is love without life to enjoy it? I am not Romeo, and with Joan’s memory loss, she is certainly not my Juliet."
Satisfied with Colton’s explanation, Alex instructed, "Prepare his transfer."
Colton confided in his sister, revealing his true intentions, "Alex may think he has won by my agreement to the transfer, but it’s just a distraction. I will make him lose everything."
His sister, however, expressed concern, "If he loses everything, how will he take care of me?"
Colton smiled, "You got me. I suppose making the marriage impossible would suffice. If he can’t find Joanna, then he’ll have to rely on you."
His sister smiled back, "The people you hired are quite expensive. Are they Salvador’s men?"
"Yes, they are. I’m still gathering information about Alex. His position as the CEO of King’s multinational isn’t secure, and Logan is also on our side."
His sister was thrilled, "Logan King? I heard he’s supposed to be the CEO of King’s multinational, and Alex is just filling in for Logan’s bedridden elder brother."
"That seems to be the case. Now, where is Joanna? Alex will be surprised to learn how many people want his downfall." Colton dialed a number, and the response was immediate.
"I told you Salvador’s men would handle it perfectly. They have Joanna and her bodyguard, so my part is done. I’m leaving the country tonight to avoid any connection to this."
Despite everything, Colton was still anxious about Alex discovering his involvement. Until the wedding was over, he wouldn’t release Joanna or her bodyguard.
"Good. Ensure they don’t harm her, and she must remain unaware of my role. Just make sure she doesn’t show up at the wedding. After it’s done, you can let her go."
The man on the other end of the line assured, "Your instructions are duly noted."
His sister was so excited that she couldn’t contain herself. "Should I go see Dion now? She needs to arrange for me to see Alex, right?"
"Relax, Tess. Alex won’t pay any attention to you now with Joanna missing. If he can’t find her before the wedding, then you can step in and wear her gown. You’re just a little taller than her."
Tess was eager but followed her brother’s advice. "Alright, I’ll trust you. But are you sure the payment to Salvador’s men won’t be traced?"
Colton had a smile on his face. "Do you think I’m that foolish to use my bank account for such a transfer? Logan gave me the money in cash, and I paid Dario in cash through someone else. If the middleman isn’t discovered, there won’t be any confession, and I won’t be exposed."
"You’re a genius," Tess said, hugging him tightly as her phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi miss, our boss has installed new surveillance cameras around the house. I suggest you stay out of sight, as he’s been asking about you."
Tess froze instantly, gazing worriedly at her brother.
Chapter 88: Chapter 88 - A Big Problem
Alex checked the secret CCTV camera installed in Joanna’s office to determine the time she left.
However, an error message appeared when he tried to access the footage from the car park. These cameras were recently installed, and Alex monitored them regularly, unlike that of Dion.
The thought of it fueled him to recheck Dion’s security system, as Grandpa’s words began to hammer on his mind.
No one knew about Dion except his very close pals, so if the CCTV footage there was tampered with, there was a big problem.
Feeling a sense of urgency, Alex decided to contact Logan instead of Aiden. If Logan was involved, resolving the situation would be more challenging.
When Logan answered the phone, Alex cut to the chase. "I need Violet’s mobile phone number."
Logan hesitated on the other end of the line, questioning Alex’s request for Violet’s contact instead of Joanna’s.
"Why do you need my ex’s number?"
Alex decided to test Logan by responding, "She’s Jonna’s best friend, remember? They planned to be together tonight, and since Joanna isn’t answering her phone, I need to speak to Violet."
Logan thought carefully, relieved that there were no suspicions directed at him, and asked,
"What if I deleted it?" It was just a joke, but Alex was running out of patience.
"Stop messing around, Logan," his voice stern, pulling Logan out of his foolishness.
"Okay, I’m sending it to you," Logan replied hastily.
After work, Violet waited, but Joanna did not show up. Soon, her phone rang, and thinking it was Joanna, she answered, only to find a strange number on the line.
"Hello."
"Violet, this is Alex. Is Joanna with you?"
Violet was surprised to hear from Alex, feeling a stinging suspicion that something was wrong. "No, and her phone is switched off. I’ve been waiting at the office for her."
Alex’s expression changed dramatically, realizing that someone had dared to kidnap a woman who held the title of his wife.
This was not going to sit well with him. "Go home. I will handle it," Alex said, ending the call before Violet could say more.
He was certain that whatever had happened was related to the wedding. Suddenly, he felt strange at the thought of Dion.
She was the first to call him and tell him not to marry Joanna. So, he dialed her number, but for the first time, Dion refused to answer the phone.
For someone who usually kept her phone beside her and was always eager to hear his voice, this was rather strange.
Hacking into the cameras, he was met with the same error response once more, so he instantly contacted the secret bodyguard.
"Check the cameras. I haven’t checked in a while, and if there are any problems, then install new ones."
"Yes, sir," the bodyguard responded as Alex ended the call and dialed the desktop number.
The night caregiver had not yet arrived, so the day caregiver answered the phone.
Alex’s question took her aback. "About the woman we talked about yesterday. I need the information on her asap."
"I’m sorry, sir, but I doubt what you are talking about," the day caregiver replied, afraid of being found out.
If the boss found out she took a bribe, that would be the end of her.
Alex understood that the caregiver he spoke to last night had not yet reported and left a message.
"You must be the day caregiver. Tell the night caregiver to call me when she arrives."
"Yes, sir. I will do so."
"And how is Dion?" Alex asked. She responded, "She’s watching a movie."
"Transfer the call to her room. I want to speak to her." The caregiver did as requested, and Alex heard the phone ring. The soft voice he always longed for answered, "Hello."
"Hey, sweetheart, why aren’t you answering my calls?"
Dion sounded annoyed and responded, "If you want to talk, then come over." She hung up after that, leaving Alex stunned.
He was happy that Dion was regaining her sanity but also saddened by how difficult she was becoming with each passing day.
The night caregiver arrived, and the day one passed on the message. As soon as she finished her shift, she dialed the woman’s number, and it was answered on the second ring.
"Hello?"
"Hi miss, our boss has installed new surveillance cameras around the house. I suggest you stay out of sight, as he’s been asking about you."
Tess froze instantly, not expecting Alex’s attention to be focused on Dion when Joanna was the one missing.
Did it mean he did not love her? "Alright, thanks for informing me. I will take the necessary precautions."
After ending the call, Tess explained to Colton, "It seems Alex doesn’t care for Joanna. He’s more concerned about his sister."
Colton did not like what he was hearing and wanted Alex to suffer. However, if Alex was so curious and concerned about his sister, he might investigate Tess and discover her secret when a DNA test was performed.
"The last time I checked, the cameras were damaged. This is your chance to visit Dion again. I want her to lose her mind," Colton said seriously, but Tess disagreed.
"Sorry, but he had new cameras installed, and now he wants to know my identity. I don’t think I’m ready to meet him yet," she expressed, Colton was caught off guard by the sudden turn of events with Alex’s surveillance.
Tess listened as Colton pondered the situation. "Look, I don’t know the person who rescued his sister. I just had information from the doctor who treated her after the fire and checked her file," he mused.
"Why don’t you find and ask him some more questions? He won’t hide anything from you as a fellow doctor, right?" Tess suggested, trying to be helpful.
Colton’s smile was tinged with bitterness. "He’s not in the country, and I had a feeling Alex paid him to leave because he didn’t want anyone to know about his sister."
"Dion is such a beauty, so how could he hide her? Trust me, I would flaunt her if she were my sister," Tess remarked casually, showing her fondness for Dion.
An idea began to form in Colton’s mind, but before he could articulate it, he received a text message that read, ’
’Sorry boss, but there is a big problem.’
Chapter 89: Chapter 89 – The Order
Alex was seething with anger, but given that his wife was involved, he knew he had to keep a clear head and remain composed.
Suspecting that the person who abducted his wife might have discovered his relationship with Dion, Alex made sure that the new CCTV cameras were installed.
He then sent a coded message to Dario.
’You were tasked with protecting Alex King’s wife, yet she and her bodyguard are missing. Do you want to risk losing your job? You have twelve hours to return her to her husband.’
Despite his anger, Alex managed to calm down because he had a contingency plan in place.
Besides, no one had to know that he was Salvatore.
The men he had trained were now overseeing the new recruits, ensuring strategic assignments.
This gave Alex confidence that he would soon have a lead on Joanna’s whereabouts.
Once that was resolved, he could focus on finding the woman who had saved Dion.
At present, Dion was uncooperative, and Alex could do little until after the wedding, when he could address the situation directly.
To his surprise, he received a prompt response from Dario, almost as if Dario had been anticipating his message.
’Salvador, I followed your instructions, and Alex King’s wife is safe.’
A wave of relief washed over Alex, though he wasn’t entirely shocked. By having his men shadow Joanna and Jack, it was only logical that they would be aware of her location and well-being.
’Please elaborate,’ Alex replied in a code message.
Dario’s response took a few minutes, indicating a detailed explanation.
’Salvador, we were approached by a man named Tom to abduct a woman named Joanna. Upon investigation, we discovered she was the same individual you had mentioned. I instructed them to proceed with the abduction but to ensure her safety under our watch.’
Alex was pleased that his men were assigned the job and impressed by how they executed it cleanly without leaving any traces.
Joanna was safe but until she was back under his roof, he would not be satisfied.
Also, anyone behind this arrangement would not go unpunished. As such, he had to gain more details, so he instructed,
"Bring all the evidence to the reporting room now."
Although Alex was curious to know who was behind the operation, he knew he had to keep a low profile until after the wedding.
Any issues could escalate into fights and gunfights, which he couldn’t risk when he was trying to secure everything for Dion.
If it were just for his benefit, then there would be no need to fight for the Kings Multinational.
"Yes, sir," Dario agreed, despite the late hour.
Thinking of Nancy, Alex inquired discreetly, "What about Nancy?"
Dario assured him, "She’s asleep and won’t wake up soon."
Alex wanted things to move quickly so Dario could return to Nancy. "Then hurry up," he urged.
Alex and Edmund stayed late at the office, knowing the next day was a weekend. Edmund used the time to catch up on some backlogs, anticipating overtime pay.
Dario arrived at the reporting room in about thirty minutes, and Alex eagerly activated the virtual meeting.
A video played on the screen, showing Joanna peacefully asleep on a bed, though the room was not as luxurious as Alex would have preferred for her.
On the floor lay the tough bodyguard, curled up like a worm. It was evident that they were both under the influence of a sedative, causing them to sleep for an extended period.
This was the second time they had experienced something like this, and Alex vowed silently that it would be the last.
"We kept them together to provide mutual comfort in case one of them wakes up prematurely, but if you prefer, we can return them before the effects of the sedative wear off," Dario explained, prompting Alex to consider his options.
"What were the specific instructions accompanying the order?" Alex activated his disguised voice, giving him a robotic tone.
Dario displayed the agreement on the screen, but to expedite the process, he provided a verbal explanation.
"Tom requested that Joanna miss her wedding, and we could release her afterward. The reason for this request was not disclosed."
Alex’s jaw clenched as he reviewed the customer’s request on the screen, monitoring the situation through the surveillance cameras in the control room.
His first suspect was Logan, but he had no proof at the moment. He asked further, "How much did he pay?"
"Five million," came the reply.
Such a significant amount for a seemingly simple job was on the high side, indicating the determination of the person to achieve their goal.
"Have you investigated him yet?" Alex inquired, hoping for concrete evidence to confirm his suspicions.
"Yes, but after receiving the information you sent me, I instructed some of our agents to keep tabs on him. They reported that he left the state."
This scenario seemed familiar, prompting Alex to wonder if this person was the same individual responsible for drugging Joanna’s food.
Alex was currently at a standstill, so all he could do was be patient until after the wedding.
Then, he would ensure justice for anyone who dared to obstruct him. "They always manage to escape, but do you have a picture of him?" he asked Dario, who nodded and projected an image on the screen.
That’s him on the screen. We took the picture during the transaction. He paid in cash."
Alex gazed at the image on the screen but couldn’t place him. In short, the person was unfamiliar.
"It’s smart of him not to want to be tracked, but I have a feeling he’s working for someone else."
Dario agreed with a nod. "That’s what I think too, but I don’t have much information on that."
A smile crossed Alex’s face as an idea formed in his mind. It was the first time he was going to attempt something like this, but it was all for the protection of his wife.
"Here’s what you can do..."
Chapter 90: Chapter 90 – Refund with Penalty
"Here’s what we’ll do. Call him back and inform him that he needs to come in person to collect the refund with a penalty. Also, let him know that his order has been canceled by your boss."
This marked the first time they had to cancel an order, and the penalty was set at thirty percent of the contract amount.
Despite the potential loss of money, Alex saw this as an opportunity to gather information from the man. However, Dario raised a valid concern.
"What if he refuses to come in person and insists on receiving the refund through a bank transfer or another method?" Dario asked.
Alex was growing frustrated with the questions, as all the necessary information was clearly outlined in their terms of purchase.
It was possible that Dario had forgotten, as this rule had never been enforced since the agency’s inception.
All their clients went through the process with neither of them requestion for termination.
"Have you forgotten our contract terms? We refund in the same currency and mode of transaction as the original payment," Alex reminded him.
This meant that if the transaction was conducted through a bank, the refund would be processed the same way.
Similarly, if cash was used, the refund would be issued in cash. The refund would also be processed by the same individual, unless they were unable to do so.
"If the person is unable to collect the refund in person, they must send an email appointing someone else to do so on their behalf," Alex clarified.
Through that means, they would still be able to nail whoever’s email address was being used.
Dario acknowledged his understanding, and Alex continued with his instructions.
"Prior to investigating Tom and his associates, send Joanna and her bodyguard back to her office discreetly without leaving a trace."
All he had to do was wait for Salvador’s men to leave after returning Joanna and Jack, and then he would take over.
"Understood, Salvador. I will handle it," Dario said with renewed determination.
After leaving the report room, Dario tried calling the person who had hired them, but his phone had no coverage, so he sent a text message instead.
’We regret to inform you that we have to cancel your order. Please come to the office for a refund with the penalty as specified in the contract. The goods will be returned to their home country.’
This was their way of indicating that Joanna and her bodyguard would be returned to where they were taken from.
Dario waited to see if he would receive a reply to track the person, but none came.
Upon receiving the message, Tom was disappointed and sent a text to Colton.
"Sorry, boss, but there’s a major issue."
Colton panicked and quickly replied with a question, "What’s wrong?"
Tom, fearing being tracked, turned his phone on and off at short intervals.
He was about to make a move when he received a reply and promptly responded to it.
The message stated that Salvador’s men did not want to deal with Joanna and her bodyguard. The boss had instructed them to collect the money, but he was out of the country.
’Salvador’s men do not want to be involved with Joanna and her bodyguard. I just received a message from their boss to come for the money. But I’m out of the country.’
Colton was shocked to see his plans falling apart. How could Salvador’s men be afraid of Alex? If they weren’t, why would they back out of the deal because of him?
The more he pondered, the more confused and fearful he became about the mysterious man in the wheelchair who could instill such fear.
Restless, he called Logan, but Logan was upset and didn’t want to be involved.
"I told you not to call me," Logan responded sternly, leaving Colton puzzled by his reaction.
"I know, but there’s a problem. Salvador’s men want to back out and return the money," Colton explained.
Logan was furious on the other end of the line. This was his closest chance to get Joanna back. He suspected she might not return to work, preparing for the wedding.
The abduction was planned for today, but unforeseen issues kept him at the office, adding to his troubles.
"How dare they?" he raged. "Joanna is mine," he said possessively. Colton was stunned but remained silent. This was not the agreement they had, but Logan had more to say. "It was just a misunderstanding, and I want her back."
Hearing this, Colton was upset. It meant that Joanna had dated Logan before marrying Alex, and the saddest part was that he could not make his intentions known.
Logan was wealthier and was also the one sponsoring everything.
"Well, Salvador’s men have her but are not going to release her to us," Colton explained further, but Logan’s hiss caused him to move the phone away from his ears.
"Bullshit."
The call ended as Logan fumed in the office. Things were crashing down, forcing his assistant to come over, since Logan was in charge of one of the branches of the Kings Multinational.
"Sir, is there a problem?"
"Get out. I want to be left alone," Logan yelled, flipping his office desk upside down.
His assistant hurried out as if he were being chased, leaving Logan to wrestle with his thoughts.
The more he pondered it, the more convinced he became that Salvador was somehow involved with Alex.
How else could Alex’s voice carry such weight, and how could he possess such skill? The situation was complex, and Logan realized he couldn’t win this stage anymore.
He dialed Colton, forcing himself to calm down before speaking. "Fine, we lost the money," he admitted, but Colton disagreed. The money was crucial for their next stage.
If Logan didn’t want it, Colton did. He argued, "We need to retrieve it."
Logan felt like he was talking to a fool. "Why don’t you go for it? What if it’s a ploy to uncover who is behind all of this?" he suggested. Colton snapped to attention.
"How did you figure that out? Do you know who’s behind this?" he asked suspiciously.
