Chapter 156: Guilt and Remorse

Killian's POV

I stood before Giselle's bedroom door with guilt and remorse etched across my face. The DNA results had really hit me hard. I can't continue my day without talking this through with Giselle. Even though I did not know where to start with all the bad things I had done, I rushed to Giselle's room, determined to make amends with her.

I couldn't rest until I apologized for everything I had done to Giselle and sought her forgiveness.

After collecting myself together, I've finally made up my mind. I brought our son with me to give him back to his mother.

The door swung open, pulling me from my thoughts. I steeled myself, ready to face this head-on, only for the door to reveal Giselle's attendant, who looked at me in surprise. Clearly, she wasn't expecting to see me at the other side of the door.

"I heard that Giselle has woken up," I began, my voice laced with apprehension. "Tell her that I came to visit. I wish to talk to her, but it's okay if she doesn't want to talk to me."

I paused, then added, "I also brought our son with me. I will now return him to her." My heart raced, anxious to see Giselle once more so I could reconcile with her.

I hope she will allow me to talk to her.

The omega pushed the door wide open so I could hand her my son. She took him carefully from my arms, and I watched as she slowly disappeared into the room.

I waited outside Giselle's bedroom while I silently looked inside through the open door, waiting for Giselle's attendant to come back again.

As the Alpha, of course, I had the authority to barge in if I wanted and force Giselle to talk to me even if she didn't want to.

However, from now on, I'm going to do things right.

For the sake of my newborn son, I had to be in a good relationship with his mother.

My mother had always warned me about putting my son first above all else and that I should think about my son first when I make my decisions.

I always thought she was telling me to do those things because my son is the future Alpha of the Pack, and I should treat him with caution.

However, now that I have become a father, I suddenly developed a strong urge to protect my son and give him all the best in the world.

When Giselle was still pregnant, it didn't feel too real to me. However, the moment I laid my eyes on my son, I heard his first cry and touched his skin. I finally realized what it truly felt to be a father.

I held my breath when the attendant finally appeared out of the corner. I waited anxiously as I watched her slowly approach me.

"Alpha, please come inside," the attendant lowered her head as she pulled the door open and walked to the side.

I stood rooted on the spot, not expecting that Giselle would still be willing to hear me out after what I had done.

I felt utterly undeserving. I felt like a complete asshole. This made me feel more ashamed to face her.

With a trembling heart, I carefully stepped into the room, each footfall quickening the pulse in my ears.

As I drew closer to where she lay, I stopped in my tracks, my breath catching in my throat as I finally laid eyes on Giselle.

There, perched on the edge of her bed, she cradled our newborn son close to her chest with her weary arms.

She still looked as pale as she had when I had left her. Her red, rosy lips had turned cracked and dry, and her shiny hair pressed onto her skin with sweat.

She's still wearing the same clothes she wore in her labor, but she couldn't care less about what she looks as she held her son dearly into her heart.

The sight of her in such a state tore at my heart; the memories of how had so callously taken our child from her before she could even get a hold of her son right after his birth haunted me.

en

I deprived her of the precious moments every mother deserves. After taking our child away, she could finally hold him dearly in her arms.

"Giselle," I uttered her name, my voice quivering.

Giselle didn't look at me. She didn't move. She continued hugging our son without facing me.

With a deep, steadying breath, I moved to kneel at her bedside, my eyes never leaving her face.

The omegas that were inside the

room were shocked when they saw what I did. They couldn't believe that an Alpha would kneel before

someone lower than him. Thiol.ne

shows how serious and remorseful I am.

I remembered how she also knelt before me, begging me to believe her, but I never did. Now that things had come to this, I should also kneel before her and beg for her forgiveness.

My heart ached when I saw how her face was still wet with tears. The Doctor had informed me that even though she was already awake, the sedative hadn't completely worn off, so she could still be weak.

"Giselle, I'm so sorry for hurting you and our son. I should have never doubted you." I spoke remorsefully as I lowered my head before her.

Chapter 157: Becoming a Father

Killian's POV

I couldn't bring myself to look Giselle in the eye after confessing everything and apologizing for how I had treated her.

Silence fell between us as soon as I finished my words. My heart constricted, and I felt suffocated by the thick tension in the air.

I waited with bated breath for her response until, out of the corner of my eye, she suddenly moved.

My eyes turned back to Giselle, wondering what she was about to do. I watched as Giselle slowly turned to her attendant standing behind her in wait.

Carefully, she handed our son over to the attendant's arms. Then, they all left, giving us privacy and taking the baby with them.

My gaze connected with Giselle's. Now that we were finally alone, I felt more dumbfounded, not knowing what to expect.

Before going inside the room, I had braced myself, anticipating that she wouldn't easily forgive me. I even imagined she would refuse to talk to me, more so, be left inside the room with me.

But Giselle did none of those things. Instead, she met my gaze, and then she grabbed both of my hands, wrapping them with hers.

"Killian," Giselle whispered weakly as she stared into my eyes. "I was never angry with you, and I've never blamed you for anything." Giselle forced a smile on her face, but her eyes betrayed her.

I could see the tears threatening at the back of her eyes.

I couldn't believe my ears as Giselle's words washed over me. I remained kneeling in front of her, my heart swelling with a torrent of emotions that threatened to overwhelm me.

A man like me deserved hatred from a woman like her. I had completely misjudged her. Hearing her words made me realize that I was mistaken by her. She is still that kind and gentle person that I knew when we were still dating before I found out that Astrid was my mate. As his ex-boyfriend, I should have known her better, yet I had doubted her and punished her without any proper evidence against her.

Giselle leaned forward as she reached out a trembling hand, trying her best to gently guide me to my feet. "You don't need to kneel before me, Killian," she murmured. "You are my Alpha, I don't deserve such respect from you."

Her words struck me like a thunderbolt, shattering the walls of guilt and despair that had surrounded me.

Not only had she forgiven me, but she had never truly blamed me at all. The realization left me humbled, my eyes stinging with unshed tears.

"Giselle, I've done so many terrible things," I confessed, my voice thick with remorse. "I swear to you, I will try to make it up to you."

Giselle silenced me with a delicate gesture, her eyes shining with a fragile strength. "You do not have to, Killian. I don't want you to torment yourself further. All I want is for you to trust me this time and never doubt me again.

I could see the vulnerability in her expression, yet there was forgiveness in her gaze that left me awestruck, and I found myself nodding in a solemn promise.

"Of course, I will never do that again Giselle. I will try my best to be a good father to our child and I promise to protect you and never hurt you like this again," I spoke determinedly as I looked into her eyes with a solemn vow.

Giselle suddenly lowered her head. "I

know you would be a good father,

Killian. I had never doubted that. For the sake of our son, you were willing to give up everything and be wit

V

just to give our son a complete family that he deserves."

I fell silent at her words. I looked at her with brows furrowed with guilt.

me

"I know you still like Astrid, Killian. I never had a place in your heart. If I didn't become pregnant, all of this wouldn't happen," Giselle uttered remorsefully.

"Giselle, you are the mother of my child. You bore me a child and that just shows how much you care for me even though I was a jerk to you. was a bad person that I caused you to regret bringing a life to this world," I reassured her, not wanting her to blame herself.

"How about Astrid?" Giselle slowly lifted her gaze up to me.

I froze at her question, my eyes unblinking. I had doubted Giselle because of the lies that I heard. I was so convinced that the child in Astrid's womb was mine because I was stupid to hope that there would still be a chance between us.

Clearly, the child that Astrid was carrying wasn't mine. I only slept with one woman, and that is Giselle. The DNA test proves that.

Drystan and Astrid had colluded together to fool me. They were telling the truth for the first time. Drystan is really the father of Astrid's child.

"Astrid already have Drystan and I have my son. From now on, I cannot let anything to destroy us again. Right now, all I want is what is best for our son," I answered her question

I have already harmed my child because of me. His life was endangered. It was luck that he survived, but he still didn't escape completely and had contracted autism.

I have to be more careful, and I have to keep my promise, especially for my child with special needs.

Chapter 158: Promises

Giselle's POV

An evil smile played on my lips as I gloated at my victory. Killian's words are exactly what I wanted to hear.

Right now, he has completely lost his trust in Astrid. There's no way he could ever doubt me again in the future.

All I had to do was to bring up our child, and he would be reminded of this day of how he had doubted me and harmed his child.

I suppressed an evil laugh that threatened to escape my lips. I finally have Killian wrapped around my fingers again.

He has completely been bought by me. I have expected this to happen. I know that making him believe that the child is ours would make him realize that he had made mistakes.

It will also make him lose any little bit of trust or even love that he has for Astrid.

Now that we are bound by a child, I could finally be the Luna of the Silvermoon Pack, the position that I had worked hard to have.

All I needed was a little nudge, and with the support of Killian's mother, there was no way Killian could ever deprive me of that position.

"Killian, do you know believe me?" I asked him in a soft voice even though I already knew the answer.

"Of course," Killian replied without any doubt. "I was so wrong for not believing you."

I forced tears out of my eyes to see how glad and relieved I was with his answer. "Killian, I want you to promise me one thing," I reached for his hands again, squeezing it slightly, showing how desperate I am to have this promise. Killian looked at me with a skeptical gaze. It's like he is suspecting me of trapping him to do something he doesn't want.

Before he could give it much thought, I instantly brought out his recent words, knowing that it would do the trick.

"Killian, you said you would make it up to me, that you will try your best to be a good father to our child. There's nothing more I ask other than that, Killian, but I'm still afraid," I spoke with my lips quivering.

"I just want you to promise me one thing, Killian, just to ease my fears," I begged him.

Killian swallowed hard. I could see the conflict in his eyes. "Tell me," Killian finally gave in.

I bit my lower lip to show him how anxious and afraid I was. "Promise me that you would forget Astrid, that you will never go back to her. Don't just make this promise for me, make this as a promise for our child also," I answered while looking directly into his eyes.

Killian was taken aback by my words, not expecting that I would ask him something like this.

"Just promise us, Killian, that you will never talk to her. I would already be glad if you would just ignore her in the future." I added, leaving him no room to refuse me.

Killian was momentarily speechless. When I saw the look in his eyes, I knew he wouldn't agree to make the promise that I wanted from him.

However, as I was about to lose hope, something flickered in his eyes as if he had remembered something.

His eyes suddenly hardened, and with a firm voice, he replied, "I promise... I promise you and our son that I will try my best to forget Astrid. I will cut off all of my connections with her."

Hearing his words, I threw my arms around him and hugged him tight. "Thank you, Killian. Thank you," I whispered directly to his ears.

Killian slowly raised his hands and comfortingly caressed my back. "I will marry you, Giselle—"

"Really?!" I suddenly gasped and separated from the hug. My eyes widened a bit when I wasn't able to hold myself back, "But," I suddenly added before I could come out as too eager to become a Luna."

"Are you sure?" I asked him with a concerned look on his face. "You had always pushed off the idea of marriage. I know mother is forcing you to do this, but you don't have to."

Killian only shook his head at my words. "No, I have to, Giselle. My mother is right. I only realized how right she was when I finally accepted that I was already a father. I could no longer make decisions for myself. I also need to think of my son also. I have realized a lot of things when I became a father. The first thing that I could do for my child is to marry you."

"Killian... are you sure about this?" I asked, searching his face for any hint of doubt.

He gazed back at me, his eyes filled with steely resolve. "I'm sure," he said, nodding firmly.

I fought the smile that threatened to stretch my lips. At last, this is all I have wanted. My dreams are coming true.

Killian reached out, taking my hands

in his. "Giselle, I will marry you," he said, his voice low and earnest. "I will try to be a good husband to you. will try to forget Astrid and learn to love you as my life, but I want you to know that it will take time"

I eagerly nodded my head; he didn't have to finish his words. "I trust you, Killian and I am willing to wait for a lifetime, until you learn to love me will take everything. I have chosen this path when I became pregnant with our son. I will bear everything you throw at me."

Chapter 159: His Daughter

Damien's POV

A smile stretched my lips as I peered at my precious, beautiful daughter, who was silently asleep in my arms.

I stared at her long lashes and her cute button nose. I know she will grow up to be a beautiful lady someday. She just came out into this world, but I couldn't already deny her beauty. I can't believe that Giselle would be so willing to murder such a pretty baby with an innocent and angelic face.

I felt bad for my daughter that she had a cruel and cold-hearted mother. I'm so glad to finally hold her in my arms, away from her mother, who has been thinking of getting rid of her.

I was afraid that she wouldn't be able to make it. My daughter hasn't been born yet, but Giselle has already been threatening me to kill her while she was still in her womb.

To save my daughter, I willingly colluded with her and fulfilled all her conditions so I could take my daughter with me.

It was I who provided for the son that she wanted, which would match Killian's DNA.

"Alpha, whose baby is this? Luna Vanessa will turn nuts if you return home with a baby in your arms!" one of the men that I brought to drive the car for me raised his voice out of concern.

His eyes were wide; he looked at me as if I had turned insane when he saw me carry a newborn baby so lovingly in my arms.

Vanessa had no idea about the agreement that I had made with Giselle, and neither did the others. I know if she knew about it, she would surely ruin everything and would go against taking care of my daughter. Vanessa thought I had left for a business trip, but she had no idea that I had gone to the Silvermoon Pack to fetch my precious daughter.

"She's my daughter. Of course I have to take her home," I replied casually, making him freeze in shock.

"Sh-She," he couldn't say the words as he looked at me like I had committed a terrible crime.

I ignored him as I maintained my attention to my daughter, who felt incredibly peaceful in my hold.

It took me a lot of hard work and too many nearly-failed attempts to be able to have my daughter safe in my arms.

Killian's restrictions on Giselle made it difficult for me to execute my end of the agreement, but of course, I would never let my daughter down.

I really gave my all in order to successfully switch my daughter with another baby and make Killian believe that the switch never happened.

It was a great help that Giselle had won most of the hearts of the omegas working in the Silvermoon Pack.

All I had to do was to make a foolproof plan for them, and they were in charge of executing the plan.

I just had to wait outside the Silvermoon Pack so I could take my daughter home.

"Alpha, if I may ask. Who is her mother?" the person that I brought with me asked after an hour of silence inside the car.

I finally turned to look at him when I heard his question. He fell silent like he had not asked anything, as he glued his eyes on the road and continued driving.

I turned my attention back to my

daughter as thought of her mother again. Whoever her biological mother is it wouldn't matter. Once took her back to our Pack, her mother would be no other than

Vanessa, whether she liked it or not.

Since Giselle never wanted anything to do with her daughter's life, then I would fulfil her wishes. Her child will never know her as her mother, just as she wished.

I will keep the truth from my daughter as a secret in order to protect her.

After hours of drive back to the Silvermoon Pack, we finally arrived. To ensure that my daughter is safe and healthy, I immediately brought her to the Pack Doctor to check her health.

The Omegas in the Packhouse

usually wake up early before the sun has risen yet. It was the exact time when we arrived, and they were all surprised when they saw me come back with a child.

I didn't dare to hide it from them; sooner or later, they will find out the truth. My daughter is going to be a part of my family, and they have to know that.

I didn't sleep as I waited for the

Doctor to finish all the tests. I was happy and relieved to find out that my daughter is perfectly fine and healthy, which is all I could wish for.

Despite Giselle's previous attempts of trying to kill my unborn daughter, I'm glad that she did not suffer any complications.

"Damien! Damien!" Vanessa's loud voice echoed throughout the halls as she yelled my name angrily before she could even reach me.

"Is it true? That you brought a baby here with you?" Vanessa demanded with a scowl.

Judging by her clothes, it was clear that she had just woken up and went straight here.

I stared at the Omegas whose heads were lowered behind her. I guess they already told her what happened.

"It's true," I answered monotonously.

Vanessa's nostrils flared in anger when she heard my answer. "Whose child is that?" she asked the question at the wrong place and the wrong time.

Chapter 160: Role of a Mother

Damien's POV

I quickly pulled Vanessa inside the room out of anyone's earshot before things could escalate between us.

Knowing Vanessa, she might act hysterically once she finds out the truth. Her temper has always been quick to flare. Her constant outbursts were oftentimes rooted in her jealousy.

I couldn't imagine what her reaction would be if she found out that the child I had brought me wasn't just any random child but a baby that I had from a different woman.

Saying that she would be furious is even an understatement. It's been years since Vanessa and I had married, but she had never been pregnant.

It would be an insult for her to find out that her husband had his eldest child with a different woman while we have been married.

Vanessa fell quiet when her gaze fell on the little innocent child sleeping inside a special crib in the middle of the room.

She slowly took careful steps towards the sleeping infant, her eyes never leaving my daughter's face. She had forgotten about her anger the moment she saw my daughter peacefully asleep.

I turned to the nurses inside the room who were taking care of my daughter and signaled them to leave.

With a slight motion of my head, the nurses understood what I needed and immediately left the room, giving us the privacy that we needed.

I instantly locked the door behind me as soon as everyone else except for Vanessa had left.

When Vanessa heard the door click as the lock shifted in place, she turned her attention back to me, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.

"Damien, what is it that you want to tell me that you can't tell in front of the others?" she asked with her suspicious gaze.

As soon as those words left her lips, her eyes suddenly widened. "Damien, don't tell me!..."

I swallowed hard when she made the right guess.

Vanessa took in a sharp breath as her hand instantly flew to her chest. "How could you!" She breathed out with a betrayed expression on her face.

I didn't have to give her an answer. My silence was enough to answer her question.

Vanessa shook her head in denial. As she denied her thoughts, her eyes landed on my daughter again, making her jolt backward as if my daughter had a terrible infectious disease.

"No, no. I can't won't accept this. You can't just bring your illegitimate child here. You should take her back where she came from!" Vanessa yelled at me as she fumed in anger.

"Never once in my life have I ever experienced humiliation like this. You are my mate, but all you've brought me was shame!" Vanessa continued to yell at me.

"What do you think the people would think if they found out about this, huh? What kind of woman would that make me?! People would think that I'm someone who couldn't take care of her husband!" Vanessa lashed out as her anger flared. The shrill wail of the baby pierced the air after she was startled awake by Vanessa's outburst.

In a heartbeat, I sprang into action and swept the tiny, trembling form into my sturdy arms with a tenderness that was unfamiliar, especially for a person like me.

I swayed her gently and murmured soft, reassuring words, my deep baritone voice vibrating with a tenderness I scarcely recognized as my own.

With each passing moment, I felt the tension bleed from her, the frantic rhythm of her heart gradually slowing to a steadier cadence.

I stole a look at Vanessa out of the corner of my eyes when she suddenly fell silent. I caught her bewildered gaze, her features etched with disbelief.

No doubt she had never witnessed this side of me - the fierce, unyielding Alpha reduced to a gentle father.

"Tell me, Damien, who is her mother?" Vanessa asked, lacking all the feistiness that she had.

Staring straight into her eyes, I answered, "You are her mother, Vanessa. From now on, you must take care of her as your own. She will have no other mother than you." Vanessa suddenly scowled at my words, her hands turning into fists. "I will never take care of a child you had with a different woman. I won't accept this!"

"This is not something you can

decide on Vanessa, no matter what you will have no choice. My daughter will live here with me. It's up to you if you will take the role of being her biological mother or Would you rather let everyone find out the truth?" I explained to her that I

wanted to show her the gravity of this situation.

"You—" she fumed angrily, but she wasn't able to talk back. She knew I was right. Her reputation lies in her decision.

I'm giving her an offer that would be beneficial for her. She knows what I'm saying. I'm going to make an announcement for everyone, a surprise to the whole Pack.

In order to hide the truth, I could just simply announce that she was secretly pregnant all along and had finally given birth to a precious baby daughter, but for that to happen, she had to accept the role of being my child's mother.

Vanessa gritted her teeth. She was

trapped, left with no other choice.

"Fine, that child could call me mother, but don't expect that I will dutifully fulfill my role as a mother to her," Vanessa replied rebelliously. "Be glad you didn't have a son, or else I would have never agreed to this."

I knew Vanessa would make a smart move. "It's fine, you don't have to religiously fulfill your role as a mother. As long as you keep these few conditions I have; first, you must not hurt my daughter and second, don't reveal the truth to her and anyone else. Remember, you are her biological mother, you gave birth to her and no one else." I straightened everything with her.
