Chapter 266: Painful Truth

Astrid's POV

My body ached from the grueling training session I had endured all day. Every muscle felt like a knot, protesting at every slightest movement as I finally prepared to sink into the relief of my bed.

Sleeping had been my only source since I arrived to this pack. But just as I began to settle into the covers, my phone buzzed, pulling me sharply back to reality.

I frowned when Giselle's name appeared on the screen. Her message was terse, asking me to come to the Pack garden immediately to deliver the "urgent" papers she had requested earlier.

I frowned. Urgent? There had been nothing remotely pressing about those papers when she asked for them this afternoon, though she was in a rush like the world was on fire.

Something didn't sit right. Why the Pack garden? Why now? But I couldn't ignore her. She'd left me no valid excuse to refuse. Maybe it was important, or maybe I was just too tired to argue with the situation. I shoved my fatigue down and dragged myself out of bed, my body still screaming for rest. As I made my way to the garden, the weight of weariness clung to me like a second skin.

When I arrived, I wasn't prepared for what I saw.

The garden was bathed in a soft, golden glow from twinkling lights strung through the trees. The romantic sound of violins drifted on the night air, creating an atmosphere that felt like a fairy tale. It was beautiful, romantic.

What's going on? My questions were answered when I finally entered.

At the center of it all were Giselle and Killian, seated at a candlelit table, intimate and far too close for comfort.

My heart twisted painfully in my chest, a lump forming in my throat as I froze. I couldn't move. I didn't need to wonder why Giselle had asked me to come. The answer was sitting right in front of me. She wanted me to see this.

She wanted to make sure I knew that Killian was hers now. That he cared for her more than he ever did for me.

Killian, seated across from her, saw me first. His expression shifted-surprise, tension, and something else I couldn't quite place.

He looked like he wanted to say something, like he was trying to reach out to me with his eyes. But I couldn't bear it.

Whatever he was thinking, whatever he wanted to explain, I wasn't interested to hear it.

Giselle, noticing Killian's attention had shifted, turned in her seat, her eyes gleaming with thinly veiled triumph. "Ah, Astrid, there you are," she said, her voice sharp against the soft music.

She feigned surprise, as though she hadn't been waiting for this exact moment. "I almost forgot about those papers. Thanks for bringing them here," she added, with that smile-insincere, cruel, and meant only for me.

Forgot? She hadn't forgotten. She deliberately said that to send a message to me. To make sure I'm aware of the reason why she called me here.

I forced my feet to move forward, my jaw clenched so tightly I thought it might crack. My fingers dug into the edges of the folder I carried, willing myself not to break.

I approached the table, and for a brief moment, Killian's eyes met mine again. He looked...troubled, as if he wanted to explain, to stop the hurt that was radiating off of me. But I wasn't interested in his comfort. "Here," I said, my voice flat as I handed Giselle the documents she had so dramatically demanded.

She barely glanced at them, her attention already shifting back to Killian, her fingers lightly brushing his hand as she took the papers.

"You're such a lifesaver, Astrid," Giselle said, her tone dripping with insincerity. "The Pack really owes you a big favor."

My stomach churned. I wanted to snap back, to say something cutting, but I was in no mood to bite back after seeing this scene before me.

All I could feel was the ache-the

gnawing, unbearable ache of

betrayal, That should be me. I

should be the one sitting on Giselle's seat as Killian's rightful mat@and Luna.

Killian hadn't said a word, but I could feel his eyes on me, like he wanted to say something but couldn't. I could sense his hesitation, his tension, but what did it matter? He had made his choice. He had chosen her.

There was no point in staying any longer.

"I... should go," I muttered through gritted teeth, my voice barely audible. I turned quickly, desperate to escape the twisted scene unfolding before me.

The papers had never mattered-Giselle had won, and I had walked straight into her trap. She had succeeded in making me see them together.

But as I took a step to leave, Killian's voice stopped me in my tracks. "Astrid-" he began softly, almost pleading, but I couldn't bring myself to look back at him.

Not now. Not when something raw and unexpected was tightening in my chest.

I had told myself for so long that I hated him, that I had moved on. had convinced myself that all I felt for Killian was anger, resentment, and bitterness over what had happened between us.

But standing here, seeing him with her, something deep within me cracked. The pain I felt wasn't just anger. It was hurt-genuine, heartbreaking hurt.

What would he even say? What words could possibly fix this?

He was with her. He had moved on. And yet, the realization hit me like a punch to the gut—I hadn't. Not truly. All the hate I had built up had been a mask, a way to protect myself from facing the truth. And now, watching them together, I couldn't deny it anymore.

I still cared. Maybe I always had.

My heart felt like it was being crushed under the weight of everything I had been pretending wasn't there.

No amount of explanations or apologies from him would change the fact that he was hers now, and I was just standing on the outside, alone.

I swallowed hard, pushing the lump in my throat down as I forced myself to keep walking.

Each step felt heavier than the last, like I was dragging the weight of every eotion I had tried to bury.

I wouldn't break-not in front of them.

The night air felt sharp against my skin as I left the garden, the haunting music fading into the distance. Giselle's laugh still echoed in my ears, but it wasn't her voice that haunted me. It was the silence-the silence from Killian.

He hadn't stopped me. He hadn't come after me.

Because he didn't need to.

I wasn't part of his world anymore. He was building something new with her. I was the past, a shadow lingering too long in a place I no longer belonged.

And no matter how much it tore at me, I had to face it now. The hurt wasn't from hate-it was because I still loved him.

And that was the most painful truth of all.

Chapter 267: Dinner Date

Killian's

POV

I stood in the Pack garden, surveying the scene Ryder had arranged. The twinkling lights, the candles, and the soft, romantic music of violins floating in the air.

I exhaled slowly, feeling a mixture of discomfort and obligation tightening in my chest. This was supposed to be simple a casual dinner to get Giselle's DNA sample. But Ryder whom I placed in charge of the arrangements, had gone overboard.

'Overly romantic,' I thought, resisting the urge to grimace. I had only asked Ryder to make some basic arrangements. I didn't expect this.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Giselle approaching, her face lighting up the moment she saw the garden transformed into what could only be described as a romantic haven.

She smiled brightly when the musicians appeared seemingly out of nowhere, playing their violins in a melody so delicate it almost made me wince.

I tried to push down the discomfort as I pulled out the chair for her, forcing a polite smile as she settled into the seat. Her smile was wide, too wide, and her eyes shone as if she were on the verge of tears. This wasn't what I intended.

"Thank you, Killian," she said softly, her voice trembling with emotion as she looked up at me. Her gratitude was clear, but it was laced with something deeper-hope, something I didn't want to give. "This is our first date," she added, as if the realization had just struck her.

I clenched my jaw, nodding but staying silent. 'First date.' The words hung heavily in the air between us. Astrid and I never had that chance. How I wish that Astrid is the person in front of me now.

Giselle continued, her voice growing more emotional. "I honestly thought you didn't care about me. Ever since we got married, you've been so distant. I thought I wasn't important to you."

Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, and she smiled again, this time more fragile. "But... this-this shows me that you do care. That I mean something to you."

Her words sank into me like lead, heavy and unwanted. I could feel her hope swelling, her belief in this false idea that tonight was about her, about us.

I hadn't planned for it to go this way. I needed her to feel comfortable, sure, but this-her believing in

some grand romantic gesture from me was never part of the plan. I just needed the damn DNA sample. She was so thankful, so filled with relief that I almost felt guilty. Almost. But as she looked up at me, expecting something, I felt the familiar pang of responsibility.

Giselle was my wife now. This was our life, whether I liked it or not.

I forced a tight smile and sat down across from her. She reached across the table and lightly touched my hand, her fingers trembling. "Thank you, Killian. This means so much more than you know."

I swallowed the growing knot in my throat and nodded, my mind already working on how to get through the rest of the evening. The sooner this was over, the better.

My world turned into a stop when I caught a glimpse of movement at the edge of the garden, a shadow approaching, and my stomach dropped.

Astrid. What is she doing here?

A wave of anger surged through me when it hit me - Giselle had called her. She orchestrated this, made sure Astrid would walk into the.

middle of this setup, forcing he

witness something that was never supposed to be real.

My heart clenched as our eyes met for a split second, but that fleeting moment was enough to undo me.

I saw everything in her gaze anger, hurt, betrayal. And the worst part? The misunderstanding that cut deeper than I had ever imagined.

She thought this was real. That I cared for Giselle.

I wanted to reach out, to stop her, to explain that this wasn't what it seemed. But I couldn't. Not here. Not with Giselle sitting across from me, watching. Not now.

Astrid turned on her heel, her steps quick, almost desperate, as she disappeared into the shadows of the night. The ache she left behind was a weight I wasn't prepared to carry.

Giselle, still holding the papers as if nothing had happened, looked up at me with a soft smile, oblivious to the devastation she'd just caused. "She's always so reliable," she said, her tone light and casual as if this were nothing more than a pleasant evening.

I forced a nod, the gesture hollow and automatic. Throughout the entire dinner, I barely spoke. I couldn't wait to leave. I just wasn't in the mood.

I'm having dinner with Giselle, but my mind kept drifting off to Astrid, relentlessly playing that look in her eyes - the anger, the betrayal, the pain.

It gnawed at me, an ache that wouldn't ease. Every passing second made it harder to sit here, pretending

to care about anything happening in this garden.

As we ate in silence, Giselle's worried voice cut through my thoughts. "Is something wrong, Killian? You've been strangely quiet."

I forced a smile on my face as I

forced to take more bites on my food. "Just... just thinking about the reports. I've been receiving lots of reports lately," I lied to ease her

suspicions.

I sighed and removed a few buttons on my shirt. I've been sweating so hard. "Is it just me or don't you think it's strangely hot out here," I asked her.

Giselle chuckled. "It's strangely hot," she replied innocently.

I blinked my eyes as the subtle warmth grew into something more — a slow insistent burn spreading throughout my body.

I shifted in my seat, trying to ignore the sudden, disorienting rush of desire that threatened to swallow me whole.

What's happening to me? This rush of desire has no place here, especially not with Giselle.

Chapter 268: Strange Addiction

Killian's POV

I drank my cold water in large gulps, hoping to quell the growing heat inside me, but instead, it seemed to intensify.

The cold liquid did nothing to cool the fire surging through my body. Every attempt to shake off the sensation only made it worse, an uncontrollable current of raw desire that left me disoriented.

My mind drifted, unwillingly, back to Astrid her eyes, her presence still lingering in the back of my thoughts.

"Killian, are you alright?" Giselle's voice broke through the haze, and I flinched when her hand suddenly touched my arm.

The innocent contact sent an unexpected jolt through me, and I pulled back instinctively.

Something stirred inside me again, something I didn't want to acknowledge.

I was still sitting across from Giselle, but my body was betraying me in ways I couldn't control.

I could feel her watching me, concern written all over her face, but I couldn't explain what was happening.

I wasn't sure I even understood it myself.

"Should we go back to our rooms?" she suggested, her voice gentle and sultry in my ears.

I forced myself to meet her gaze, trying to mask the storm brewing inside. "Sure, let's do that," I replied, my voice coming out tight and strained. "We're done eating anyway."

I stood up to leave, desperate to get away from this. But before I could take a step, Giselle approached me, her hands suddenly on my body, gripping my arms softly.

"Killian, we've been married for three years now. Are we still going to sleep in different rooms?" Giselle spoke in a low voice as she stepped forward, closing the distance between us and pressing her body against mine.

I stared at her, my mind feeling hazy, as if everything around me was spinning slightly out of control.

I swallowed hard before I grabbing her hands and pushing them away from me. "I'm tired, Giselle. Let's talk about this tomorrow," I said firmly and walked past her, the need to escape stronger than ever. "Killian, wait!" she shouted, trying to catch up to me, her voice filled with desperation.

She stepped forward, but before she could reach me, Beta Ryder appeared out of nowhere, blocking her path.

"Luna Giselle, it's dark already," Ryder said calmly, his voice steady. "Allow me to guide you to your room."

I didn't stop. I even turned my head around to take a glance. I couldn't. I needed to be away from all of this - away from her before I lose my control.

I don't know what's happening to myself.

"Get out of the way, Ryder!" Giselle snapped, trying to push past him. "I need to talk to Killian!"

But Ryder didn't budge. His presence was calm, unshakable, the way it always was when he was silently watching over things. "Luna, with all due respect, Alpha Killian is tired. We'll handle everything tomorrow." Giselle's frustration flared, and I could hear the struggle in her voice. "I don't need an escort, Ryder! Move!"

But he stood firm, wall between her and me. "It's late, Luna. Let me take you to your room."

I could hear Giselle's protests growing fainter as I walked further away, grateful for Ryder's intervention. Ryder had been there the whole time, watching, ensuring that we obtain the DNA sample that we needed and make sure nothing goes wrong.

Ryder knows me so well as my Beta. He immediately came out of his hiding place to help when he saw what Giselle is attempting to do to me.

As I moved further into the darkness, Ryder's words echoed behind me, calm and commanding. "Luna, please. It's time to go.

The heat in my veins hadn't subsided. In fact, it had only intensified the further I walked away from the garden.

My mind was spinning, my body still restless, unsettled. Every step I took felt heavier, the desire gnawing at me, impossible to ignore.

Before I realized what was happening, my feet carried me through the corridors, my mind barely registering the path I was taking until I found myself standing outside her door.

Astrid.

I froze, my breath catching in my

throat. The intensity I'd been trying to suppress surged forward, and

now, standing here, it wasn't just et

desire coursing through me-it was also that pent up desire I've been fighting back for so many nights before this.

This time, I had no control to fight against it anymore.

I shouldn't be here. I knew that. But my body wouldn't listen. My heart wouldn't listen.

Without thinking, I raised my hand and knocked, my pulse pounding in my ears. The sound of my fist against the wood felt too loud in the quiet of the night, but I didn't back down. I couldn't walk away now.

A moment later, the door opened, and there she was-Astrid, standing in front of me, surprise flashing across her face before her expression hardened.

Her guard was up, her eyes already full of questions I wasn't sure I had the answers to. "Killian?" she asked, her voice a mixture of confusion and tension. "What are you doing here?"

I swallowed, trying to push down the heat that was coursing through me. I couldn't let her see what was going on inside me, couldn't let her know how badly I wanted to reach out, to pull her close, to explain everything that had been weighing on me since the moment I saw her.

"I... I don't know," I admitted, my voice low, rougher than I intended. "I just " I broke off, shaking my head

as I struggled to find the right words. "I had to see you."

Her eyes flickered with confusion, anger, and something else I couldn't quite place. "After what I just saw, you had to see me?" she asked, her voice dripping with disbelief.

"I didn't mean for you to see that," I said quickly, stepping forward without thinking, the space between us shrinking. "It's not what you think."

She raised an eyebrow, her arms

crossing over her chest as if she were physically shielding herself from me "Oh? Then tell me,

Killian what am I supposed to net

think? That your romantic dinner

with Giselle was just some innocent misunderstanding?"

My pulse raced, the intensity of the moment making it hard to breathe. The heat inside me, the ache to touch her, to make her understand, was overwhelming. "It wasn't real," I insisted, my voice raw with desperation. "None of it was real.'

Chapter 269: Drugged

Astrid's POV

"It wasn't real," Killian insisted, his voice raw with desperation. "None of it was real."

I stared at him, disbelief burning through me like an unstoppable fire. His words "none of it was real" — echoed in my head, but I couldn't bring myself to believe him.

Not this time. Not after everything. He couldn't just say it wasn't real and expect the pain to disappear.

I scoffed, my jaw tightening as the anger simmered just beneath the surface, ready to spill over. "None of

it was real?" I repeated, my voice thick with frustration, laced with disbelief. "What, Killian? The dinner? The marriage? You can't just pretend it doesn't exist because you suddenly feel guilty!"

It was always the same with him. Killian, always trying to backtrack, always trying to explain things away as if a few desperate words could fix everything.

As if all the hurt he'd caused could vanish the moment he decided to acknowledge it. He didn't get to rewrite our history just because he couldn't face the consequences.

He opened his mouth to respond, but something shifted in him. His expression darkened, his eyes clouding over with an intensity I hadn't seen before.

Before I could even process what was happening, he moved toward me with a sudden force, trapping me against the wall with his arms.

I gasped in shock, my body tensing as his face came dangerously close to mine. His hand reached out as

if he wanted to pull me closer, but there was nothing tender or gentle in his touch.

The desperation was gone, replaced by something raw-hungry. His lips hovered too close to mine, his breath warm and ragged against my skin.

"Killian?" I whispered, my voice trembling as I struggled to make sense of what was happening.

This wasn't like him- "or was it"? My heart raced at our proximity, confusion and fear swirling inside me. What on earth was he doing?

Then it hit me, the sharp, unmistakable scent of him. It was Killian, but not in the way I knew.

His familiar smell, the one that had once brought me comfort, was overwhelmed by something darker. There was a heaviness to it, an unnatural edge that flooded my senses.

Immediately, I knew.

"Killian, you were drugged," I breathed, the realization slamming into me.

My voice barely steadied as I pushed against his chest, trying to get away from the heat of him, but his body was rigid, his eyes burning with that unsettling intensity.

This is the second time he has been drugged.

The first time, I'd been naive-stupid, even. I had let it happen. I allowed him to do whatever he wanted thinking that I was just fulfilling my duty as his wife - a duty I should have fulfilled long ago.

The drug had overtaken him, filled him with the same uncontrolled desire, and I helped him satiate it. But I won't do that again this time. I wouldn't let it happen again.

"Killian, snap out of it!" I pushed harder, my hands trembling as I forced him away from me, but it only seemed to fuel the need in his eyes.

He leaned in further, trying to close the gap between us, his breathing harsh and uneven.

His hand found my waist, pulling me closer, and I could feel the heat radiating off him in waves.

I held my ground, preparing myself. I wasn't that girl anymore. I wouldn't make the same stupid mistake.

His grip tightened, I've been biding

my time, waiting for my chance to strike. Killian is way stronger than me and he has larger build compared to me. I wouldn't win if I

fought head on against him.

Without hesitation, I reached for the small pressure point on his neck. It was a move Drystan had taught me when I was still his student.

It is a way to incapacitate someone

quickly if ever needed to. I pressed hard, my fingers finding the right spot, and for a moment, Killian's body stiffened, his grip on me faltering. en FindNovel

Killian is an Alpha wolf, his wolf was strong enough to fight against the drowsiness caused by what I did. "Don't do this," I whispered, my voice breaking, though I couldn't tell if I was saying it for him or for myself.

He tried to fight it, his body trembling with effort, but the drug had dulled his senses enough for the pressure point to work.

His eyes, still dark with lust and confusion, began to flutter shut. Slowly, his body gave way, his knees buckling as he collapsed into unconsciousness.

I stumbled back, gasping for breath, my heart pounding as I stared at his crumpled form on the floor.

I leaned against the wall, my mind racing as the weight of the situation settled over me.

This couldn't get out. No one could

know. If anyone found out that

Killian had been drugged, there would be an uproar. What happened to him could be the same as a failed assassination attempt.

But at the same time, I can't just leave Killian here on the floor. He also needs medical attention.

I had to think. Fast.

My mind raced, thinking of who I could trust. Beta Ryder was my first thought, but I quickly discarded the idea. He is too by the book.

If he knew what had happened, he wouldn't stop at helping Killian, he would conduct an investigation and follow through the protocol, and the situation would spiral out of control.

He would mean well, but he would turn it into a big deal, exactly what I didn't want.

Then it came to me that girl! Killian's one and only trusted attendant. She'd been with him for years, always discreet, always loyal.

She knew how to handle things quietly and she wouldn't ask unnecessary questions. If anyone could help without this turning into a disaster, it was her.

Chapter 270: Loyal Attendant

Astrid's

POV

I moved quickly through the dimly lit hallways, my heart thudding inside my chest with each step.

I kept close to the walls, my eyes constantly scanning for ay signs of movement.

I had to make sure that no one sees me sneaking around. The last thing I needed is for someone else to find out what happened to Killian or question why I'm sneaking outside my room in the middle of the night.

My breath came out in short, shallow bursts as I neared the Omega's quarters. Thankfully, their quarters remained the same room. So it wasn't hard to look for them.

When I finally reached the door, I knocked softly, barely a sound, but it felt like thunder in the silence of the night.

My palms were clammy, and I glanced over my shoulder again, making sure no one had followed me.

It would be suspicious if someone caught me here right now.

Finally, the door creaked open, reveailing a young Omega woman. Her eyes widened when she saw me standing there.

"Miss Astrid!" she exclaimed in surprise, her voice louder than it needed to be.

I froze, panic flaring up inside of me as I pressed a finger to my lips. "Shhh!" I hissed, glancing nervously down the hallway to see if anyone overheard.

The last thing I needed was someone coming to investigate why I was here, knocking on the Omega's door in the middle of the night.

The Omega seemed to realize her mistake and immediately dropped her voice to a whisper. "I'm sorry,

Miss Astrid! What are you doing here?" She asked, confusion still etched on her face.

It was highly unusual that I came all the way here knocking to their room at the middle of the night.

I leaned in closer, keeping my voice low and urgent. "I need to find Anya. Is she here?"

My eyes darted behind her, hoping that she could point me to who Anya is. The Omegas share one room together in their quarters. I have no idea what she looked like. I only know that she is the only person that could help me right now.

The girl blinked, surprise flickering in her eyes before she spoke again. "Miss Astrid, I'm Anya."

I froze, feeling embarrassed for not recognizing her. Relief washed over me when I finally met her, but the urgency of the situation quickly returned.

Killian is lying unconscious in my bedroom with the drugs still taking effect on his body. There's no time to waste here. We have to do something before anyone realizes that Killian is missing.

"Anya, is it okay if we talk outside?" I asked, glancing over her shoulder at the other Omegas inside the room who were now looking our way with curiosity evident in their faces. "Please I need to tell you something in private.

Anya hesitated, her eyes flickering towards the others in the room before nodding.

She stepped outside, closing the door behind her softly. We moved a few steps away from the door, where we couldn't be overheard.

"Is something wrong, Miss Astrid?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she guided me to a quiet corner of the hall.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady

myself. "Anya, I need your help. It's Killian-he's been drugged," I whispered, the words rushing out of me before I could stop them. "He's unconscious in my room, and no

one can know. If anyone findes

out-"

Ifaltered, my heart tightening as I looked into her eyes.

I grabbed her hand instinctively, my desperation clear. "I don't know what to do. I can't let anyone find out

about this," I whispered, my voice cracking with the weight of the situation.

Anya's expression shifted

immediately the concern in her eyes

deepening. She didn't ask any

questions, didn't hesitate for even a second. Instead, she nodded, her face resolute. "Show me where he

is.

I exhaled, the tension easing ever so slightly now that Anya is here to help me. We moved quickly with her following closely behind me as we retraced our steps back to through

the winding hallways.

I opened the door to my bedroom and let Anya step inside. Killian, still unconscious, lay peacefully on my

bed. I had managed to carry him there on my own, but seeing him like this was unsettling.

Anya's eyes widened when she saw him, and she knelt beside him quickly, worry clear on her face. "What kind of drug is this? Who did this to him?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she looked him over carefully.

I swallowed hard, glancing away for a moment. "Before this, he was on a date with Giselle," I muttered her name bitterly. "I think I know who's responsible."

Anya glanced up at me, understanding but saying nothing to defend her Luna. She turned her focus back to Killian, gently placing a hand on his chest to feel his breathing.

"Don't worry," she said softly, her voice steady. "He's stable. The drug will wear off soon, and he'll wake up."

Relief flooded through me, though the anxiety still sat heavily in my chest. Anya's calmness reassured me, and I knew she wouldn't let this spiral out of control.

"I'll take care of everything," she continued, standing up to face me. "No one will find out about this. I know just the right people to handle this.

"Thank you," I whispered, feeling the weight on my shoulders ease a little. "I didn't know who else to turn

to."

Anya gave me a small, comforting smile. "You did the right thing coming to me. Don't worry, I'll keep this

quiet.

I nodded, grateful for her help. "Let me know when he wakes up."

She nodded, already returning to check on Killian.

Her eyes narrowed as if she was deep in thought, but I know she's already calling someone through the Pack Link.

"Miss Astrid, can we talk?" I was about to slip out of the room, when she suddenly called me
