Ch. 1141..1150
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1141
“Can I fly back home to receive treatment?” Edmund asked.
Right after he said that, the doctor glared at him angrily. “Are you serious? If you insist on boarding the plane, you’ll die on the way back!”
Edmund fell silent.
“All right, he’ll stay. I’ll pay the fees now!” She grabbed the notice from the doctor and left to pay the medical expense for him.
A few minutes later, Edmund’s subordinate arrived. He noticed that Edmund seemed pleased, though he was lying in bed. No one would’ve known that he had been beaten to a pulp a while ago!
“Mr. Edmund? Are you okay?” he asked carefully.
“Mm?”
Edmund put on a calm look and sat up to look at his subordinate.
“Have you settled everything?” he questioned tersely.
“Yes. You told me. Mr. Cooper would be there soon, but he didn’t show up, though I waited for two hours,” the man stated doubtfully.
Edmund looked away.
He was back to his usual aloof self. Impatiently, he said, “How would I know? Those men told me he would be there soon when they released me.”
“Huh?” The subordinate was shocked to learn that. “You mean, they released you?”
“Yes. They said my dad was on the way and agreed to let me join them. I said yes, so they let me go,” Edmund responded, his voice indicating a lack of patience.
Damn it! His subordinate turned pale. This is terrible!
He rushed out and called Benedict, who was still on his way here.
“Hello, Mr. Cooper. Are you here? We’re in trouble!”
“What is it again?” Benedict, who had just gotten off his plane, roared in anger.
The man cried, “Mr. Edmund is back, but he just told me he agreed to work for those people.”
“What?” As expected, Benedict blanched in horror.
He gripped his smartphone as his chest heaved angrily.
“Is he a fool? Why did he agree to work for them?” he demanded.
“Well, Mr. Cooper, those people must’ve tricked him. He told me they claimed you agreed to let him join, so he agreed to it,” the subordinate revealed miserably.
No one from the Cooper family would agree to work for them. After all, Benedict and their collaboration was top-secret.
There was no way Benedict would allow any of the Coopers to work for those thugs.
Now, his own son had been roped in!
Benedict nearly fainted in rage. He rushed out of the airport and hailed a cab to go to Bellridge at once.
Right now, in Bellridge Hospital, Edmund had no idea how serious the situation was. After his subordinate rushed out to make a phone call and returned with a contorted expression, he found that strange.
He promptly asked, “Why are you looking like that? Are you upset that I’m still alive?”
“No, Mr. Edmund. Don’t you know that those men lied to you? Mr. Cooper didn’t agree for you to join them!” the subordinate exclaimed.
Edmund went silent.
Shortly after, Sabrina entered with the receipt, and he promptly focused on her.
“That’s his business, so go talk to him,” he declared rudely.
What the f*ck?
The man nearly burst into tears.
Sabrina had no idea what had happened. She dealt with the admittance procedures and returned to the ward.
Glancing at him, she said, “I’m going back.”
“Where?” Edmund asked hastily.
Frowning, Sabrina revealed, “Back to the hotel. I’m booking a flight back home this afternoon.”
Edmund stared at the woman, his jaw agape.
This was the first time she mentioned about returning to her country. After her tedious insistence, he felt strange to hear that from her lips.
Did she finally think it through?
Edmund stared at her for a long while before his shock turned into a slight smile.
“That sounds good. You’ve been out and about for some time, so it’s time for you to go home now. You should leave that to your brother and reunite with your kid. Some things are best left to men,” he lamented.
Sabrina arched her brow at his words.
In all honesty, she didn’t enjoy hearing that, especially when he claimed, “Some things are best left to men.”
Is that discrimination against women?
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1142
After a brief stare at his swollen face, she said nothing and strode out.
Sabrina walked out of the hospital.
“Ms. Sabrina, did you inform him?” There was a man waiting for her at the entrance. He came over to her and asked, his voice full of concern.
Sabrina seemed cranky, but she glanced at him and gave him a curt nod. “What’s next? Did you tell Sebastian about the stuff I discovered in the casino?”
“Yes. He sent his men here, didn’t he?” Karl assured her with a grin.
He dared not ruffle her feathers and could only play along with her. Otherwise, she might try something out of the ordinary.
Luckily, she seemed pleased at his explanation.
They both left the hospital.
That night, when Sabrina was on her way to the airport, Benedict arrived in Bellridge.
After he got off his car, he stood in front of the building, looking at the inpatient department, deep in thought. “Mr. Cooper?” the subordinate called.
Benedict remained silent as he stared at the ward.
After a few minutes, he asked, “Was he ever this obedient?”
“Huh?” The man froze in surprise.
Benedict added, “This is the first time he had ever listened to me in over twenty years. He agreed to work for those people when I said so.”
Silence ensued.
Suddenly, the enormity of what had happened fully dawned on the subordinate.
Yes, Mr. Edmund had never been this obedient! He had always rebelled against his father, even if his life was at stake.
His eyes widened at the revelation. “Mr. Cooper, we—”
“Let’s head up,” Benedict declared, though he seemed absolutely gloomy.
He then stepped into the hospital.
At the inpatient department, he asked about his son, and the nurse pointed him in the direction of the ward.
Benedict and the man promptly went that way.
Bang!
The loud thump of the door shocked the entire quiet inpatient department. Even the nurses and doctors along the corridor were shocked, let alone the patients in their respective wards.
“Why? Are you here to kill me after I invited trouble again?”
Edmund wasn’t asleep yet.
He was holding his smartphone in his hands as though he were engrossed in his game. When the loud bang reverberated throughout the ward, he looked up and glared at the unwanted visitors icily.
He was back to his usual annoying self.
Thus, the subordinate wasn’t sure what was going on.
Benedict was unfazed. He stood at the door and scanned his son carefully before his gaze landed on the arm where Edmund had received an IV drip earlier.
There was a tiny gauze on the wound.
“How are you doing?” he asked.
“What do you mean by that?” Edmund stared at him as though he were a fool.
Benedict stopped asking questions and whipped out the report next to the bed. “Broken ribs and bruised lungs!”
Slam!
He slammed the report back to where it belonged hotly.
Edmund gave him a cool look and refused to comment further. He looked down and returned to his game.
An awkward silence settled in the ward.
The subordinate was wondering if he should break the silence when Benedict suppressed his anger. “I shall demand an explanation from them tomorrow. Stay here while I ask the doctor about Edmund’s condition,” he barked.
“Yes, Mr. Cooper,” the subordinate responded, pleased that he didn’t have to lighten the situation.
Edmund said nothing throughout their entire exchange.
After all, it was normal for a father to ask about his son’s condition.
After Edmund finished a round of the game, a nurse entered with a syringe and solution on a tray.
“Mr. Cooper, I’m going to hook you to an IV drip,” she told him.
“Mm,” Edmund replied lazily without looking up. He stretched his dormant arm to the nurse.
The nurse tied his arm in a smooth action and inserted the sharp end of the needle into his vein.
A faint smell of solution lingered in the air.
The liquid flowed down the drip and into the pierced skin. Though it was faint, the man’s nose was sharp enough to detect it.
“What is this solution?” he inquired.
“It’s penicillin. Your dad came and told us you aren’t allergic to it, so we changed the solution to penicillin. It works faster than other antibiotics,” the nurse explained gently.
Hearing that, the man narrowed his gaze and stopped playing the game on his phone.
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1143
When Sabrina was about to board the plane, she found something odd with the man next to her.
As soon as Karl picked up a call, he rushed out of the boarding hall as if he had to attend to an emergency.
When she headed out to search for him since he was away for quite some time, she found out he was occupied with his phone.
What’s he doing?
She remained silent and continued observing the suspicious man for a few minutes before returning to the boarding hall.
When the man returned after another few minutes, Sabrina thought he would show her the way to the plane.
However, to her surprise, he mentioned, “Ms. Sabrina, I have to return to attend to an emergency! I’ll send someone to escort you! Is that fine?”
Sabrina had no intention to poke her nose into Karl’s business since he was the person in charge of SteelFort.
On top of that, he was in charge of matters regarding the Hayeses throughout the years. Thus, she wasn’t particularly against the idea of having someone else escort her.
However, as soon as the man departed, she thought of something as she was alone in the boarding hall, awaiting the person to escort her to show up.
Where’s he returning to? Is it Bellridge? What sort of emergency is he talking about? Does it have something to do with Devin?
She felt her heart racing and sprang up from her seat.
Meanwhile, Karl had long returned to Bellridge when he heard of the news at the airport.
To ensure he could reach the destination as soon as possible, he had the chopper ready when he was at the boarding hall.
Unfortunately, things were tough on the end of his subordinates.
The ones hiding in the dark had been anticipating his arrival.
Once Karl showed up, they came out of hiding and announced, “Mr. Frost, you’re finally here! We’ve sent someone to lure Benedict away and infiltrate the hospital, but they’re the ones with the upper hand.”
Karl got increasingly worked up when he heard the news. He asked, “Why has he gotten suspicious out of the blue? Is it because of the freaking penicillin?”
His subordinate affirmed, “I’m afraid that’s the case! After all, it’s one of the most common antibiotics available in the country! He must have gotten suspicious since Edmund turned him down more than once!”
“What the hell? Is there a law ruling mandating the usage of penicillin?”
Another one of those affiliated with SteelFort remarked, “Unfortunately, Benedict’s son had always relied on it whenever something was wrong with him.”
Unable to resist the urge to throw a tantrum, Karl cursed, “What the hell! Has he or hasn’t he relied on penicillin?”
“Benedict got increasingly suspicious because Edmund turned him down with the excuse of not having a skin prick test conducted beforehand.”
Karl felt another strong urge to vent his anger because he was certain the dubious Benedict would do everything it would take to get to the bottom of the it.
Benedict has long gotten suspicious of his so-called son! If Edmund continues turning him down, Benedict is going to get increasingly dubious! In short, we’re the ones with a nasty situation ahead of us!
To Karl’s surprise, once he marched into the building with his face scrunched up in irritation, he encountered Benedict marching into the office of the attending physician.
Along with the rest of the members of SteelFort, Karl was at a loss for words.
Can I just take him out already?
Meanwhile, Edmund was thrilled since he thought he had successfully stopped Benedict from trying anything silly.
However, Benedict had no intention to let him off the hook just yet. He instructed the man next to him, “Take care of him when I’m away. I’ll go get the doctor to conduct a skin prick test.”
He made something up and walked out of the ward shortly after he wrapped up his conversation with the ones in the ward.
The man remained standing next to Edmund to take care of him as instructed.
Unable to withstand the awkward silence in the ward, he asked Edmund, “Do you want an apple? I’ve just bought a few fresh apples from the mart!”
Edmund, who was occupied with his phone, had no intention to eat the apple but changed his mind upon a glance.
He requested, “Can you wash and slice it on my behalf?”
“Sure!”
The one with the apple was thrilled. He rushed into the washroom to get the apple ready as Edmund requested.
By the time he returned, he noticed that Edmund had gotten increasingly excited. Judging by his response and the sound coming from his phone, he thought that Edmund must have started another game.
Ten minutes later, the doctor asked once he entered the ward with Benedict, “Mr. Cooper, have you requested to conduct a skin prick test?”
Edmund, who was occupied with his game, raised his head and looked at the doctor in the eyes.
Irked by the scent of the antiseptic coming from the gloves of the doctor, he turned around and looked elsewhere with a deadpan look.
The doctor approached him and had everything ready for the test within split seconds. He gathered the sample he needed for the test once he sterilized the area around Edmund’s wrist with an alcohol swab.
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1144
Benedict couldn’t move his eyes away from the doctor’s pair of hands. It was evident he was afraid he would miss it, just like the time he headed out of the ward to answer the call.
A skin prick test was all it would take to determine if the young man was allergic to penicillin.
Silence remained in the ward as everyone held their breath throughout the session.
Once the doctor was done, he beckoned Edmund to hold on to the cotton bud and reminded him, “It’s going to take twenty minutes until we get our hands on the result. If you feel uncomfortable, send someone to get me as soon as possible.”
Edmund looked at the doctor in the eyes and took over the cotton bud as instructed.
On the other hand, the doctor paid no heed to him and marched out of the ward once he gathered the sample he needed.
Benedict, Edmund, and the one affiliated with the family were the only ones left in the ward.
Edmund had a mouthful of apple and continued playing his game as if he couldn’t care less of those around him.
Benedict and the one affiliated with the family were speechless because of the young man’s behavior.
Twenty minutes was nothing much for an ordinary person. However, it felt as if it was an eternity for the ones in the ward, especially Benedict.
He couldn’t suppress the urge to pay the doctor another visit and headed out to figure out the progress of the test.
Within five minutes, he returned to the side of his so-called son and removed the cotton bud against his son’s will.
“Why are you still holding on to this cotton bud?”
Edmund rolled his eyes and asked in a sarcastic manner, “Are you deaf or something? Haven’t you heard the doctor’s instructions?”
As a result of his sarcastic remark, Benedict’s lips twitched against his will. The thing irritating him the most was the fact the pricked wound hadn’t reacted to the allergen.
How is that possible? Why isn’t he reacting to the allergens?
When the observant Edmund noticed the man’s eyes flickering in despair, he sat upright and asked with a scowl, “What’s wrong? Are you upset I’m doing fine?”
Benedict was at a loss for words to defend himself. Thus, Edmund added, “Were you the one who sent the nurse to administer penicillin? What? Are you trying to kill me merely because of the troubles I have caused you?”
Overwhelmed by angst, he cast the apple in the direction of his so-called father without holding back while yelling, “Why don’t you go ahead and kill me?”
Benedict knew it was time for him to stop pushing his luck. Immediately after he evaded the apple launched in his direction, he leaned over and explained, “What are you talking about? You’re my only son! There’s no way I’m going to kill you!”
“Stop lying to me! If you’re not going to kill me, what do you think you’re doing? You don’t think I’m a fool, do you?”
As he continued yelling hysterically, he smashed the nightstand with all his might and jumped out of bed.
“Mr. Edmund, you need to calm down because Mr. Cooper doesn’t mean it—”
The one affiliated with the family couldn’t even finish his sentence since the young man had rushed out of the ward.
The patient was nowhere to be seen anymore by the time they made it out of the ward.
Oh, God! Why has things turned out as such again?
He felt his heart aching when he wasn’t even related to the Coopers.
Meanwhile, Benedict started stomping and yelling the moment he figured out his son had fled from the hospital, “I’m going to teach him another lesson the moment I find him!”
The man next to him begged to differ and thought the one yelling would be the one suffering once the young man returned.
Meanwhile, Karl and the rest of his party came out of hiding the moment the young man rushed down the stairs from his ward.
“Edmund!” Karl yelled when he was about to address the man with a different name a split second ago.
He was astonished because the young man continued staggering his way down the stairs with his hands covering his mouth as if he couldn’t hear Karl and the rest.
“Mr. Frost, why aren’t we going after him?”
Once his subordinate caught up to him, they asked since they couldn’t figure out the reason Karl remained standing when they were so close to their target.
Karl went dead silent and had his eyes glued to the surveillance camera a few feet away from them. His expression darkened as if he was ready to take someone out to vent his anger.
We can’t afford to make any mistakes!
On the other hand, Edmund finally made his way out of the hospital according to the route he had in mind in spite of his blurred vision.
He thought of traveling back to the hotel without the help of the others. Otherwise, he might not make it out alive if he failed to return within half an hour.
Honk!
Out of nowhere, he felt a strong gust on his cheek and took a step back when he was about to leave.
He leaned against the gate and started panting heavily in an attempt to catch his breath.
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1145
It turned out a car had just whizzed through his side at top speed. Unfortunately, he couldn’t even hear vehicles closing in.
His sense of touch was the sole thing he could rely on. However, none of those would matter since he would pass on if he couldn’t return to the hotel in thirty minutes.
Out of the blue, someone alighted from the car and asked since she was equally astonished by his presence there, “Edmund?”
Edmund couldn’t hear her, but he knew someone was on their way to him the moment she alighted from the car.
Unsure if she was a friend or a foe, he launched a powerful kick in her direction when he was merely a few feet away from her.
As a result of his powerful kick, the woman fell to the ground and shrieked in pain, “O-Ouch!”
When she felt the racking sensation coming from her head, she felt a strong urge to take out the man in front of her in a similar manner.
“What on earth is wrong with you? Can’t you tell it’s me? Have you a death wish or something? I’ll send you to hell if you have enough of living!”
Huh? What’s with this familiar scent? Wait! Who’s this next to me?
He leaned over and started running his hands across the floor. When he found the pieces of papers all over the place, he picked those up and started examining them.
What is this? Are these pieces of notes?
His mind was all over the place when the woman finally brought herself up and saw him trying to get his hands on her notes.
Unable to stand the man’s goofy look anymore, she rushed over and launched an equally powerful kick to retaliate against the man.
Bam!
He felt a racking sensation coming from his leg since she had put on a pair of high heels. As a result, he groaned in pain.
When she was about to launch another powerful kick, he stopped her in the nick of time and held her firmly in his arms.
“Ms. Sabrina, is that you? I can’t see!”
Sabrina, who was about to throw a powerful punch at the man, was startled by the things the man brought up.
“H-Huh?”
What does he mean? Why can’t he see?
“My father has beaten me to a pulp! As a result, I can’t really see or hear! He’s trying to take me out because of the troubles I’ve caused him!”
His head drooped over his shoulders as he nestled against the woman in his arms. He seemed as if he was a needy little boy in desperate need of others’ aid after others picked on him.
Sabrina couldn’t stand the man on her shoulder anymore. After all, he was a few feet taller than her in terms of height and a few pounds heavier than her in terms of weight.
Instead of pushing him away, she wrapped her arms around him to stop him from falling in the nick of time.
“What the heck is wrong with your father? Is he even in his right mind?”
The man couldn’t hear her, but he hadn’t lost his sense of smell yet. He leaned over and asked while begging with an aggrieved look, “Ms. Sabrina, can you do me a favor and take me home with you?”
Sabrina felt a strong urge to rush into the hospital to teach the young man’s father a lesson, but she couldn’t stand it anymore when the helpless man brought up his request.
She helped him up and returned to the hotel with him. They finally reached the hotel after twenty minutes.
Edmund was on the verge of passing out by the time they returned to the hotel.
As a result, Sabrina’s mind was all over the place as she tried to bring him to her room. She repeated herself, “Edmund? Stay with me, Edmund!”
Shall I rush him to the hospital? Since his father is still around, am I supposed to send him to another hospital?
Once Sabrina brought herself to a halt, the barely conscious man figured out the things she had in mind. Therefore, he muttered, “D-Don’t send me to the hospital. G-Get me the blue pill on top of the nightstand—.”
He couldn’t even finish his sentence since he had lost consciousness and fallen to the ground.
Startled, Sabrina yelled, “Edmund! Stay with me, Edmund!”
She had never seen his vulnerable side ever since they became acquainted with one another. To be precise, she found the man irritating all this while.
The young man was the one stopping her from traveling abroad to search for her husband with all sorts of excuses. He even mentioned that it was Sebastian’s instructions to keep her grounded.
She once thought of taking him out to get rid of him just like the current unconscious man in her arms.
However, when his limbs started turning stiff, she knew she didn’t mean it. On top of that, she was slightly flustered as colors started draining from his face.
She felt upset as if he was an important figure in her life. In spite of the hassle she had to go through, she finally returned to her room with the unconscious man.
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1146
I need to get him his pills immediately! Where’s the bottle of pills he needs?
As soon as she returned to the suite and recalled the things he told her before passing out, she started searching high and low in the man’s room.
When she found the things he needed in the man’s drawer, she paused and muttered to herself, “What the heck is this?”
It turned out there was a miniature temperature regulating device next to the bottle of odd-looking pills. As soon as she tried opening it, smoke gushed out of the device.
What sort of pill are we talking about? What’s with this weird-looking device next to it?
As confused as she might be, she knew she couldn’t afford to waste her time anymore. She returned to the living room and stuffed the pill into the man’s mouth.
Ten minutes later, she felt a sense of relief once he regained consciousness. Subsequently, she collapsed to the ground and took a seat next to the barely conscious man.
Alright, I’ll figure out these mysterious-looking things once I’m done sorting things out with this unconscious man!
Sabrina returned with a pail of lukewarm water and cleaned the man before tucking him in on the couch.
Once she had everything sorted out, she took a seat next to the window and drafted a text.
Sabrina: Sasha, where are you? I need you to answer my queries!
The message took Sasha, who was at Oceanic Estate in Jadeborough, by surprise since she was about to feed Jaena.
She put everything aside and reached for her phone since it was the first time Sabrina tried getting in touch with her after running away from home.
Instead of greeting her and inquiring about the condition of her daughter, Sabrina attached two photos.
Sabrina: You’re a doctor, aren’t you? Have you seen any of these pills?
Sasha: Huh?
Sasha’s eyes widened when she caught a glimpse of the formula printed on the bottle once she zoomed in on the photos.
Caution: Handle CuSO₄ with care!
What the heck are these? CuSO₄? Isn’t that freaking copper sulfate? What is she trying to do with these?
Sasha was afraid the woman on the other end was up to something silly again. Thus, she rushed out of the room with her phone and yelled, “Sebby, where are you?”
“Mrs. Jadeson, are you looking for Mr. Hayes? He’s currently in the study for a discussion with Mr. Old Mr. Jadeson.”
Olivia thought something was wrong and showed Sasha the way to Jonathan’s study immediately.
As soon as Sasha handed Jaena to Olivia, she barged into the study. “Sebby!”
“What’s wrong? I’m here!”
Sebastian was equally anxious ever since he heard Sasha searching for him a few minutes ago. He brought his session with Jonathan to a halt and returned to the side of his wife.
Sasha showed him her phone and yelled, “See! Sabrina has just gotten in touch with me and sent me these! She asked me if I have seen this as a doctor!”
She could barely catch her breath after running all the way into the study from her room upstairs, but she wasn’t the one making a fuss out of something trivial.
After all, Sabrina’s life might be at stake if she were to mistake copper sulfate as some sort of pill for health complications.
The inorganic compound was often involved in the agricultural setting as an herbicide. In other words, it was never meant for consumption unless under the supervision of a doctor.
Sasha couldn’t even remain calm as she felt a strong urge to make a trip abroad to Sabrina’s whereabout to stop her from trying whatever she was up to.
To her surprise, the man in front of her wasn’t particularly shocked when he glanced at the photos she showed him.
She thought she had been seeing things as the man seemed to feel a sense of relief when he saw the photos Sabrina sent her.
Am I seeing things or imagining things again?
“Sebby?”
“I’ll get in touch with Edmund to figure out the things going on at once. You need to calm down since I’ve sent Karl to escort her home. She’s going to join us soon.”
Sebastian finally answered her queries and assured her to take it easy since it wasn’t a big deal.
Sasha looked at him in the eyes and thought something was wrong, but she couldn’t figure out the things going on behind the scenes due to the man’s flawless act.
When she was about to mention something else, Jonathan broke the silence and asked, “Sasha, is everything fine?”
“Y-Yes, Grandpa!”
She knew she had to leave the rest to her husband as it wouldn’t be wise to confront him in front of her grandfather-in-law.
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1147
“Sasha, just allow Sebastian to deal with Sasha and get yourself ready for the banquet tomorrow. You’re going to join Sebastian for the celebration of the newly appointed cabinet, aren’t you?”
“H-Huh?”
The things Jonathan brought up had successfully diverted Sasha’s attention since she wasn’t made aware of her upcoming agenda with Sebastian beforehand.
She was nervous since she had never attended a banquet with the ones leading the nation as guests of the banquet.
It’s nothing if we’re talking about a banquet for the members of the upper echelon! As nasty as the guests might be, they’re merely a piece of cake as compared to politicians!
Sasha stammered in return, “I-Is it necessary for me to show up? I-Isn’t this too much?”
Sebastian broke the silence ahead of his grandfather and remarked in a sarcastic tone, “What do you mean it’s too much when they need to consider themselves lucky to make your acquaintance? They’re just a bunch of selfish men with their respective hidden agendas!”
It was evident he despised the politicians the most as it was written all over his face. Startled by the man’s harsh remarks, Sasha started perspiring again.
In the end, Sasha made up her mind to join him for the banquet held by the members of the White House.
Olivia was thrilled when she heard of the news. She remarked, “Mrs. Jadeson, it’s wonderful! You’re the first to join the banquet as the house hold member of the Jadesons! In other words, you’re officially there as Mrs. Jadeson!”
“She’s right, Mrs. Jadeson! It’s finally time to let others know you’re the almighty Mrs. Jadeson of the successor of the family! I’ll go get you a dress for the banquet at once!”
“Indeed, make sure you have the accessories to go along with the dress ready as well! We need to make sure you’re in your best fit since you’re there on behalf of the family! There’s no way we’re allowing others to outshine you!”
As soon as the housemaids figured out Sasha would join Sebastian for the banquet, they started getting everything she needed ready.
Sasha found them hilarious and thought it wouldn’t be necessary to make a fuss out of a mere banquet.
On top of that, she merely had to get herself ready for the banquet because Sebastian would get everything else she needed for her.
Well, I guess I’ll head out and get the guests some gifts since we’re meeting in person for the first time. I can’t possibly embarrass the family.
“Wendy, can you join me for a trip to the shopping mall?”
“Sure, Mrs. Hayes!”
Wendy made sure Jaena was in great hands with Olivia prior to leaving with Sasha.
As compared to Avenport, Jadeborough was considered a well-developed city with various infrastructures. Therefore, the buying power of the residents was different from those of the residents from Avenport.
Aware of the things the city had to offer, Sasha headed out to the most luxurious shopping mall from Oceanic Estate once she was ready.
“Wendy, what am I supposed to get the guests?”
Seated next to Sasha, Wendy suggested, “What about jewelry?”
Sasha wasn’t sure if that was the great idea and lost herself in a process of thought with her lips pursed.
Jewelry sounds fine, but I’m not sure if the guests are going to appreciate something coming from someone they’re barely acquainted with. Mrs. Croll is a huge fan of things made out of baniere, isn’t she?
She thought of getting the guests something else, but the moment she showed up in the boutique store of the mall, she noticed there were many middle-aged women there to get themselves different kinds of accessories.
Wendy leaned over and asked in a hushed voice, “Mrs. Hayes, you’re not going to doubt me, are you?”
Sasha thought Wendy was right since she was a few decades older than her.
When she was about to enter the store to avoid running into others in the store, one of the women noticed her presence and asked, “Isn’t that Mrs. Jadeson?”
“Where?”
As a result of the woman’s question, the rest of the guests in the boutique store turned around with their eyes glued to Sasha.
Sasha was speechless because she couldn’t run away from them anymore. In the end, she joined the rest of them in the store.
“Mrs. Jadeson, are you here to get yourself an accessory for the banquet as well? Why don’t you check these out over here? The store attendant told me they’ve just acquired these a few hours ago!”
“She’s right, Mrs. Jadeson! Go ahead and give those a try!”
Those around Sasha, including the wife of Minister of Transportation and Chief Superintendent, were the ones at the place of Helma quite a while ago.
They were pretty enthusiastic around Sasha since Helma hadn’t asked them to join the rest. On top of that, the clothes Sasha put on took them by surprise.
Sasha joined them and asked, “Are these accessories made out of jades?”
“Yes, this bracelet over here is of the most premium quality amongst the rest with the latest design.”
The store attendant retrieved the turquoise bracelet and showed those in front of her.
As a result, those around Sasha, especially the wife of the Minister of Transportation, couldn’t suppress their urge to get their hands on the unique bracelet anymore.
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1148
Is it necessary for them to overreact over such a trivial bracelet?
Sasha took it over and started inspecting it. Once she was done, she turned around and asked, “What do you guys think? Are you guys going to get it since it's such a unique bracelet?”
She figured out the concerns of those around her since they went dead silent when she brought up the question.
Upon a simple glance at the price tag, she found out it would cost her a little more than two hundred thousand for each of the bracelets.
In the end, she asked the store attendant, “How many of these does the store have to offer? Can you get each of them one?”
“H-Huh?”
Those in the store, including the store attendant, gasped as a result of Sasha's suggestion.
The store attendant repeated after Sasha as she thought she had been hearing things, “A-Are you sure you're getting each of them one?”
“Of course! Consider it a gift from me since it's such a joyous occasion!” Sasha repeated herself in a sincere tone.
Those around her could barely conceal their excitement when they found out Sasha was serious. They gathered around to express their gratitude.
Truth be told, they were at least a decade older than Sasha, but they were no match for her in terms of buying power.
“M-Mrs. Jadeson, are you sure it's fine? It's going to cost you a leg and an arm!”
“She's right, Mrs. Jadeson! This is too much!”
“It's fine as long as it's something all of you appreciate!” Sasha reassured them it wasn't a big deal and handed over the card to the store attendant.
The women around Sasha made up their minds to keep Sasha safe from all harm whenever they were around her in the White House.
It turned out that was one of Sasha's many goals for joining them in the store.
Those in the boutique store weren't aware someone had been observing them from above when Sasha was about to foot the bill on their behalf.
“Is this Yariel's wife?”
The woman's assistant answered with a courteous smile, “Yes.”
The woman turned around and continued observing the interaction of those in the boutique store.
When Sasha handed the bracelet to those around her, she grinned in an elegant manner, muttering to herself, “She's quite a smart woman since she knows it's vital to get herself acquainted with others.”
Unable to fathom the things she brought up, her assistant asked, “Huh? What do you mean she's trying to get herself acquainted with others? Isn't she there to acquire the accessories she needs just like the rest in the store?”
“Indeed, the rest in the store are there to purchase the thing they need for the banquet, but that's not the case for the young woman over there.”
Those around her can't even afford the cheapest jewelry in the store, but that's not the case for her. She's merely there to do them a favor to get them to open up to her.
She turned around and instructed before entering another store, “Alright, why don't you get in touch with Mrs. Croll and get her to hurry up because we're running late.”
The coat the woman had put on couldn't even conceal her great figure. She carried herself in an elegant manner, striding into the store even when she was in a hurry.
It was evident she was no ordinary patron of the mall.
Meanwhile, when Sasha and the rest walked out of the boutique store, one of them asked, “Mrs. Jadeson, are you heading to the highest level next?”
“The highest level?”
Sasha looked up when she heard the question coming from the enthusiastic woman next to her.
Chloe added, “Mrs. Jadeson, the highest floor is the place you can get your hands on the most unique items the mall has to offer! Speaking of which, I think I've seen Elizabeth traveling to the highest floor a few minutes ago!”
“Elizabeth?”
Those around them were astonished to figure out the wife of the newly appointed president was there as well.
Similarly, Sasha turned around when she heard Chloe.
“What's with the look? I've really seen her traveling upstairs with her assistant! If you guys don't believe me, we'll just head upstairs and figure out if she's here or not!”
Instead of playing along with her, they remained silent since none of them, including Sasha, had any intention to pay the one on the highest level a visit.
A few seconds later, someone asked, “Is that Mrs. Croll and Mrs. Oveson? Are they here to keep Elizabeth company?”
Sasha felt a strong urge to leave the mall as soon as she turned around and caught a glimpse of Helma traveling upstairs with Dorthea, the woman whom she held a grudge against, using the elevator.
As they exchanged glances, Dorthea's face puckered in irritation.
“Mrs. Hayes, we—”
“We'll talk once we're home!” Sasha turned around and thought of leaving once she finished her sentence.
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1149
Sasha wasn't afraid of the vicious duo, but she knew it wouldn't be wise to cause the Jadesons any trouble.
After all, others could easily figure out she had been trying to form cliques with the women around her a short while ago.
To make things worse, the ones in the elevator weren't even on good terms with her.
Those around her got in her way and asked when they figured out Sasha was about to leave, “Mrs. Jadeson, are you leaving so soon?”
Sasha brought herself to a halt and explained, “I'm so sorry, but I have to attend to an emergency.”
“Huh? We're about to take you elsewhere with us! You don't have to worry about running into them since this isn't the only mall in Jadeborough!”
“She's right, Mrs. Jadeson!”
Sasha was surprised when those around her brought up the suggestion of bringing her to another mall with them.
All of a sudden, she was at a loss for words to turn them down. After much considerations, she repeated herself, “Thank you so much for the offer, but I'm afraid that's impossible since I have an emergency that requires my attention. Is it fine if I leave the rest to all of you since most of you know the remaining guests better than I do?”
She made up her mind to entrust those around her with the remaining gifts she had to get the guests of the banquet and handed them her card.
Oh, God! Mrs. Jadeson is such a generous woman!
They couldn't believe Sasha had handed over her card to them without much hesitation. They were equally thrilled to be entrusted with such an important task.
It was rare for those affiliated with the White House to open up to one another unless there was some sort of ulterior motives in store.
In the end, Sasha returned home with Wendy while the rest headed off to another mall in Jadeborough to complete the assigned task.
The worried Wendy asked when they were on their way home, “Mrs. Hayes, I'm pretty sure they're going to deem you a reliable friend of theirs, but are you ready to take the wife of the president as well as Mrs. Croll and Mrs. Oveson on?”
Sasha sneered and asked, “What do you mean? Are you indicating they're going to make a fool out of me during the banquet tomorrow?”
As Wendy remained silent, Sasha added, “We shall see if they're capable of making fun of me! I'm not really afraid if they're coming after me! However, I'm afraid they're plotting something against Sebastian again!”
Wendy's face turned pale and haggard when she heard Sasha because that might be the case. Ultimately, she was up against the wives of the mainstay of the House, including the wife of the newly appointed president.
If they're really up to something vicious, Sebastian, who's on his own, might be in huge trouble.
Holding on to the steering wheel, Sasha fastened her grip when she thought of the things awaiting the man she held dear.
Sebastian, who was in Oceanic Estate, couldn't move his eyes away from the surveillance footage. Those were the precise locations of their targets.
Their targets were constantly on the move since the dots on the screen continued traveling everywhere throughout the screen.
Jonathan asked, “How's it going?”
“I think we're safe for the time being since Benedict hasn't reported the incident to those from Jadeborough. That must be the reason none of them are on the move yet,” Sebastian answered while staring at the screen.
Seriously? What's taking him so long?
His grandfather couldn't remain calm anymore. He asked, “What are we supposed to do since Benedict has gotten suspicious? If things remain the same, he has to infiltrate the place! His life is going to be at stake!”
Sebastian was equally upset. He clenched his fists with all his might while staring at the screen full of dots.
Ring!
Out of the blue, he heard his phone buzzing once again. He reached for his phone with a frown and found out that Sabrina, who was still at Bellridge, had dropped Sasha a series of WhatsApp messages.
Sabrina: Hello? Can you answer my question? Stop ignoring me!
Sasha: Hurry up!
Sasha: Hello?
Sebastian couldn't stand his sister bombarding him with a series of messages anymore. She hadn't stopped texting him ever since he took over Sasha's phone.
Has she always conversed with him in such an irritating manner?
The already frustrated Sebastian drafted his reply to take things out on the one annoying him.
Sasha: Can you stop making a fuss out of something trivial? You don't think he's still kicking and alive next to you if it's something life-threatening, do you?
Sabrina gaped at Sasha's reply and thought she had been seeing things because of the seemingly harsh reply.
What the hell? Is Sasha yelling at me through the phone?
A few seconds later, she drafted her reply to return the favor.
Returning from the Dead: His Secret Lover Chapter 1150
Sabrina: I've been waiting for two hours!
Sasha: What? Can't you even spare two hours when you have nothing to do? Aren't you aware I'm occupied with all sorts of things?
Sabrina took a deep breath in an attempt to regain her composure when she recalled they had to deal with the mess she left behind after running away from home over the night.
Sabrina: If that's the case, can you spare me a few minutes and give an explanation of whatever I have just administered the man? She attached another photo along with the WhatsApp message.
Instead of answering her queries, the man on the other end initiated a video call session with his brows furrowed in disbelief.
Sabrina was surprised but picked up the call after hesitating for a few seconds.
“What?”
Sebastian bellowed the moment Sabrina picked up the call, “What the hell is wrong with you? Why have you taken it out of the temperature regulating device? Aren't you aware of the importance of the device?”
It turned out she had left the bottle of pills unattended after taking it out from the temperature regulating device.
Sabrina was flustered when she heard a man's voice coming from the other end of the call because she thought Sasha was the one initiating the call.
It turned out her brother, Sebastian, was the one on the other end of the call.
She ended up stuttering, “I-I—”
Sebastian instructed in a callous tone, “Stop making excuses and put it back at once! He's as good as gone if you don't hurry up! If that's the case, you're going to spend the rest of your life in regret!”
Sabrina felt a chill running down her spine when she found out it was a life-threatening situation. She had the bottle of pills stored in the temperature regulating device again.
She returned to carry on with the conversation once she was done.
“D-Done!”
Sebastian knew he was the one making a fuss out of something trivial when he caught a glimpse of his sister's diffident look through the screen.
Therefore, he stopped yelling at her and explained in a gentle tone, “I'm not trying to scold you, but the bottle of pills is of utmost importance to the man next to you.”
The confused Sabrina gulped and nodded, promising her brother on the other end, “I'll keep that in mind.”
“Alright, how's he doing?”
Sabrina showed Sebastian the man next to her and said, “He's still unconscious as of now, but I think he's doing fine since he's no longer as pale and haggard as he was a few hours ago.”
At the very least, his limbs aren't as frigid as they were when I found him in the middle of nowhere.
Sebastian thought it was time to hang up the call once he ensured the man next to Sabrina was fine.
“Hold on! Am I supposed to keep him safe from his father in case his father shows up at my doorstep, demanding for him? He told me his father was the one who had beaten him to a pulp after he took out the owner of the casino!”
Sebastian couldn't fathom the things Sabrina brought up and thought it was something Edmund had made up to deceive his sister.
Is it necessary for him to include so many things at once? It's so confusing; I'm not sure if I'm able to keep up with him anymore!
“Are you telling me you wish to keep him safe?”
It was finally Sabrina's turn to reprimand her brother on the other end of the call. Glaring at him in the eyes, she yelled, “Hello? Hasn't you sent him to me? Am I supposed to turn a blind eye when his life is at stake?”
As Sebastian fell silent, Jonathan, who was next to his grandson, muttered, “You—”
Within a few seconds, the man seated in front of the screen full of red dots announced, “Alright, I'll send someone to take both of you home at once.”
Jonathan seemed as if he had something to tell him, but he changed his mind and heaved a long sigh at the last minute.
Clenching his fists while staring at the screen, he knew it wouldn't be wise to share the things he had in mind with his grandson.
Nothing else matters as long as they're safe. At the end of the day, we're doing all of these just to keep the members of the family safe.
Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!
Edmund was glad he had the chance to be roused from his sleep in a well-illuminated suite to the birds chirping on the balcony.
When the woman heard the rustling coming from the couch, she greeted the man, “You're finally awake.”
Once Edmund turned around, he saw Sabrina in the set of loungewear, including a pair of indoor sandals, the hotel had prepared them.
What's with her unkempt hair? She looks great in her pair of heels and her dress! I think I need to get her another few sets of outfits!
