His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1271
He looked up the sky with torrents of grief streaming down his cheeks for the first time in forever.
Those around him, including the doctors, fell silent when they saw the man’s pair of eyes brimming with tears.
They were well aware their country was safe and sound because of the weeping man. Had it not been for him, they might be the ones suffering.
Therefore, they truly felt the man’s agony and thought the least they could do was to leave him alone.
“Sebastian! Where are you?”
The one breaking the silence was the woman rushing up the stairs.
She was startled by the mess on the higher levels of the hospital and ended up yelling once she made it to the lobby.
Devin’s eyes gleamed when he heard her. He marched out of the office, yelling while rushing towards her, “Sasha, we’re here!”
Thrilled by the presence of Devin upstairs, Sasha looked up and repeated after him, “Is Sebastian upstairs as well?”
“Yes, hurry up and join us upstairs!”
Those around Sebastian were glad Sasha had made it to the hospital since she was the one the dejected man needed to pull himself together.
Seated in a pile of rubble, the man looked up and caught a glimpse of a woman in a yellow dress looking at him in the eyes with a concerned look.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt? Show me your wounds if you’re hurt!” she repeated her question since Sebastian seemed to be unaware of her presence. In the end, she thought of inspecting the man’s wounds to figure out his actual condition.
Sebastian was startled by the presence of the woman when he felt her fingers on his wrists. He was glad it wasn’t an imagination because she was merely an arm’s length away from her.
He greeted her in a hoarse and quivering voice, “Darling—”
Sasha looked at him in the eyes and asked, “What’s wrong? Is everything—”
She was equally startled by the man’s response and thought she had been hearing things because he never once showed her his vulnerable side throughout the years.
What the hell is going on? Wasn’t it just another explosion? Was there something more to it?
She was made aware there was an explosion, but that was pretty much everything others told her when she was on her way there.
“Y-Your—”
Sasha found out the man’s concerns when he gasped out a word with his eyes glued to her stomach.
Her face turned pale and haggard because she thought he might have figured out her miscarriage.
H-Has Grayson told him everything?
The flustered Sasha stuttered, “I-I’m so sorry for keeping you in the dark. I-I was merely afraid the news would get in your way. You don’t have to worry because I’ll take care of myself and see if we can have another additional member of the family in the future.”
She assured him it wasn’t the end when she wasn’t sure if it was possible for her to get pregnant again in the future.
It was merely an attempt of hers to keep the man sane.
Sebastian gaped at the things Sasha brought up. Those around them responded in a similar manner when they figure out the truth.
He paused for quite a long time before asking the question, “A-Are you telling me you have miscarried?”
Sasha felt overwhelmed and repeated herself with an apologetic look, “It happened about a month ago. I think our child—”
The man held her firmly in his arms, stopping her from finishing his sentence as he was thrilled by the great news.
Seriously? It turns out it’s not the end for us!
Sebastian couldn’t even recall the last time he was as excited as such. He wrapped his arms around her to express his emotions.
He was the only one he cared about. To be precise, he was ready to put his life to an end to join her in the afterworld if something were to happen to her.
Those around them heaved a sigh of relief because of the drastic turn of events for the better.
On their way out of the hospital two hours later, Devin couldn’t suppress his curiosity anymore. He asked, “Sasha, when did you figure out something was wrong with your child?”
Sasha thought it was time to share everything with the rest. “I need to thank Aunt Sharon!”
“Why?”
“The jade she gave me worked like a charm against radioactive substances! Since the child was a radioactive source, the jade shattered after quite some time!”
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1272
Sebastian had been holding Sasha’s hands over the past two hours because he was afraid of losing her.
He turned around and asked when he heard her sharing the incident with them, “Was that the reason you had to take a toilet break the other day?”
“Yes, I paid Dr. Wallen a visit as soon as we returned to Jadeborough. He acquired the aid of a radioactive specialist and found out our child was the radioactive source when I told him I had been bleeding. It was then I knew our child was never meant to be a member of the family.”
After pausing for a few seconds, she continued with her orated speech, “I made something up and dropped by Aquene Temple with Dr. Wallen for manual abortion.”
She turned around and looked at the man with her eyes flickering in despair. “I’ve buried the remains of our child at the temple. If you wish to pay our child your last tribute, I’ll tag along and show you the way to the resting ground.”
Sebastian fastened his grip and nodded. He was determined to pay their child his last tribute because, at the end of the day, it was their child.
Shortly after they returned to Oceanic Estate, Sebastian gathered everyone around for a short meeting after pulling himself together.
Apart from Devin and Jonathan, the mainstay of the army, as well as the representatives of the White House, were there as well.
They had gathered around to discuss their next best course of action to take Eddie out. Hence, Sasha and Sabrina weren’t included in the meeting.
One of them was occupied with a crawling infant while the other one couldn’t move her eyes from her grandmother’s piece of note.
Sabrina asked, “It’s truly the last battle, isn’t it?”
“I think so since we’ve taken out Felicity, the one he relies on the most. Unless he has something else hidden up his sleeves, it’s almost impossible for him to take us on,” Sasha added since she was of the same idea.
Sabrina’s eyes gleamed when she heard Sasha’s analysis. She announced, “Great! I wasn’t sure if I should throw Jaena a birthday party, but I think it’s no longer a concern!”
“I’m such an irresponsible aunt! How could I forget it’s almost Jaena’s first birthday?”
Sasha put her grandmother’s piece of note aside and returned to the side of her adorable niece.
Unlike Vivian, who was quite a silly little girl, Jaena’s such an adorable little girl! See! She’s smiling again!
“I’ll get you a huge present as soon as you greet me!”
“M-Mommy—”
Unsure of the things Sasha had brought up, the little girl burst out laughing while clapping her hands.
Sabrina was glad Sasha was around to keep her daughter company because she was in desperate need of a break.
She remarked once she saw Sasha’s grandmother’s piece of note, “I’m still trying to acknowledge the fact your grandmother was the reason the nation triumphed during the war at North Sea.”
“You know what? It’s the same for me!”
Sasha felt proud of her grandmother. After all, her grandmother had fought alongside the founding father of the nation decades ago.
A short while later, Sabrina noticed something odd with the shattered piece of note.
What’s with this red dot over here? It seems quite familiar!
Devin was surprised when Sabrina returned to the room with the piece of note and showed it to him, asking with her brows arched in confusion, “Hey, is this red dot Coldbridge?”
Coldbridge?
He returned to his table with the piece of note and started perusing it in a serious manner.
Coldbridge was merely a four-hour drive journey away from Jadeborough. He could vividly recall the time he was there because of the conflict he had with others.
Therefore, he had his doubts when Sabrina shared her speculation with him. After all, North Sea was thousands of miles away from Coldbridge.
To his surprise, when he compared the location marked on the piece of note against the map, he found out Sabrina was right.
Unable to fathom the things going on, he muttered to himself, “How is that possible?”
“See? Why don’t you ask Sebastian if he’s aware of it? Sasha’s grandmother would never mark it for no reason, would she?”
Devin finally linked the missing pieces of puzzles together. In order to verify his speculations, he instructed his subordinate to send him a copy of the military map.
A few minutes later, he got his hands on the map with the details of their past and upcoming operations.
It turned out Coldbridge was linked to a vital route for water transport leading to the North Sea.
Oh, God! Sasha has such an awesome grandmother! She has actually foreseen the importance of establishing a route for water transport years ago!
No wonder they were able to retreat so soon even after suffering defeat at North Sea! This must be the reason they were able to keep casualties to a minimum!
Most importantly, they were able to keep the remaining forces safe from their foes in case of the worst!
Devin was dumbstruck once he figured out the importance of the seemingly trivial route.
If this route is no longer in use, what’s it being used for as of now? Judith’s death remains a mystery up until today! Not even Louis was conscious of the truth of her death! He merely mentioned something along the line of the honorable woman sacrificing herself during the war at North Sea! Just what’s the truth?
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1273
The Goofy Prodigy
Devin knew he needed to make a trip to Coldbridge. Thus, he got himself ready and departed early in the morning.
“Are you sure you’re going alone? Have you told Sebastian of your upcoming plan?” Sabrina asked when he shared his upcoming plan with her.
“I think it’s better to leave him alone for the time being,” Devin remarked with a frown when he heard Sabrina’s question.
“He has quite a lot of things on his plate since Sasha isn’t really feeling well. I don’t wish to add to his burden with something as trivial as such,” he added after pausing for a few seconds.
Devin thought he was accountable for Sebastian’s misery when Sebastian went through an emotional breakdown shortly after the accident at the hospital.
He had never seen Sebastian so helpless throughout the years. All along, Sebastian was the most formidable corporate player in Avenport.
As a matter of fact, he was supposed to be having the time of his life with his family had he stayed away from the affairs of the Jadesons.
However, he got himself involved and braced himself through countless challenges for the sake of the family.
Therefore, Devin was against the idea of getting Sebastian involved again.
On the day he left, he told Sebastian he would return to Naval Base ahead of him to get everything ready.
Sebastian wasn’t suspicious at all since Naval Force was greatly undermanned then. Since Xayden would be dropping by Oceanic Estate soon, he couldn’t be bothered by other things as well.
Against the idea of Devin leaving without Sebastian, Sasha asked concernedly, “Are you sure it’s fine for Devin to leave ahead of you?”
Her husband shook his head and assured her, “I’m sure it’s fine. Have you forgotten he’s an experienced combatant? Now, why don’t you tell me if you’re feeling unwell or not?”
Sasha found the man’s response hilarious since she seemed to be the only one he cared about.
Chuckling, she announced, “I’m fine! You need to stop making a fuss out of everything! Have you forgotten I’m also a doctor? I’ve long gotten in touch with Xayden on the day I found out something was wrong!”
Her husband let out a sigh of relief when she told him she had everything under control.
In the afternoon, Xayden showed up with a pleasant surprise for everyone. He had returned with the three little ones.
“Mommy, we’re home!”
“Mommy!”
“Mommy!”
Sebastian remained standing next to Sasha as their children rushed to Sasha’s side immediately after alighting from the car.
Ian returned to him shortly after he greeted Sasha, stopping Sebastian from overthinking things when he was about to get envious.
“Daddy!”
Ian was almost as tall as his father after being apart for such a long time. Sebastian caressed the hair of his son and asked, “Why have you guys tagged along with Xayden?”
His son looked at him and asserted, “Daddy, we wish to be of aid as members of the family! It’s the least we can do in times of emergencies!”
Sebastian was startled as the nine-year-old little boy reminded him of his younger self when he was ten.
It was the same when I was young! Otherwise, Dad wouldn’t have taken me in when he was aware of my actual condition!
Overwhelmed by emotions, Sebastian instructed Wendy to take their children away with her since it was time to get to business.
A few minutes later, he showed Xayden the way to the treatment room in Oceanic Estate.
Once Xayden retrieved the bottle of blue solution, he murmured, “I’m not really sure if it’s going to work! Are you sure you wish to proceed?”
Sebastian rolled his eyes and asked in return, “Are you kidding me? Weren’t you the one who came out with this?”
Xayden felt a chill running down his spine and knew it was time for him to keep his concerns to himself.
On the other hand, Sasha urged, “You need to stop startling Xayden since he’s just in charge of the research! What are you expecting from him when he wasn’t even given any sample to work with?”
She rendered Sebastian speechless because she had a point.
Actually, the goofy prodigy was the only member of SteelFort capable of irking Sebastian.
In the end, Sasha suggested conducting a blood test as a temporary countermeasure.
Those in the room were on pins and needles as the cells started regenerating at top speed under the microscope.
However, the cells spiraled out of control and mutated when they thought things would turn out fine.
What the heck!
Sebastian launched a powerful kick in the direction of Xayden while warning the goofy young man, “Can you be mindful of your actions? Aren’t you aware you’re conducting trials with my wife’s blood? She’s not a freaking lab rat!”
Xayden felt aggrieved and intimidated because of the man’s merciless kick.
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1274
Hello? I wouldn’t even hesitate to run the trails if there were lab rats with similar conditions for me!
In the end, Xayden knew he had to start all over again because he couldn’t allow anything to go wrong.
When Vivian found out the things going on, she approached the aggrieved Xayden with some light refreshments and said, “You don’t have to be upset! Just finish this and try again! I’m sure you can save Mommy soon!”
Vivian was no longer the silly little girl she used to be. Instead, she seemed to have turned into an understanding little girl.
Xayden spent most of his time in the treatment room.
Sebastian and Sasha knew it was only a matter of time until she could get rid of the radioactive substances in her system.
Therefore, Sebastian knew it was time for him to join Devin at Naval Base.
Prior to Sebastian’s departure, Jonathan assured Sebastian the rest of his family was in good hands with him, “You need to take good care of yourself. Just leave the rest to me. I’ll ensure everyone at home is safe and sound.”
Sebastian nodded since he knew Jonathan would definitely keep everyone safe as long as they were at Jadeborough.
He departed shortly after bidding farewell to the ones he held dear in mind.
Sasha had her eyes glued to the man’s departing figure until he made it out of the mansion. When she turned around, she found out her sister-in-law had a relatively odd expression.
She asked, “Sab, are you okay?”
“H-Huh? O-Oh! I-I’m fine!” Sabrina shook her head and assured Sasha everything was fine because she knew she had to keep the rest in the dark.
I need to keep Devin’s actual whereabouts a secret from the rest, but is it possible when Sebastian is currently on his way to Naval Base? What if Sebastian finds out Devin isn’t there?
Sabrina’s mind was all over the place. Once she returned to her room, she accessed her phone to see if the man had reverted to her.
Unfortunately, it had been two days since she last heard from Devin. Therefore, she couldn’t help but wonder if his life was in danger.
What am I supposed to do? Jake! Jake’s at Coldbridge, isn’t he? I’ll call him and ask if he’s aware of Devin’s whereabouts!
She made the call seconds after she thought of someone she could rely on. Nevertheless, it was another futile attempt.
“The number you have dialed, cannot be reached at this moment—”
What is happening? Why can’t I reach him at all?
Unable to keep herself calm anymore, she switched off her phone and rushed out of the room while yelling, “Sasha, where are you?”
“What’s wrong?” Sasha rushed out of the room when she was about to doll Vivian up after the little girl’s shower.
“Sasha, Devin’s missing! What am I supposed to do?”
“Huh? What do you mean he’s missing? Hasn’t he headed to Naval Base ahead of Sebastian?”
“No! He headed to Coldbridge because of the marking he found on the piece of note your grandmother left behind! It turned out to be an escape route! He told me to keep everyone in the dark because he didn’t want to trouble anyone! However, it has been two days since I last heard from him!”
Sabrina finally let the cat out of the bag. She could barely finish her sentence without cracking her voice.
Sasha couldn’t even catch her breath due to the absurdity of the truth.
Oh, God! Can they stop causing us trouble when things are so chaotic? Isn’t he aware we’re going to be worried if something happens to him?
As infuriated as she might be, she reached for her phone and called Sebastian, who had just departed a short while ago.
It took the man on the other end a few seconds to snap out of bewilderment. He was equally confused and infuriated by the truth.
After suppressing to urge to go berserk, he instructed Sasha, “Alright, I’ll take a detour to Coldbridge at once! I want you to tell Grandpa to send a team of fully equipped elite my way!”
“Alright!”
Sasha knew it was a serious issue. Thus, she rushed upstairs immediately after she wrapped up the conversation with her husband.
When she found Jonathan, she told him everything, including Sebastian’s upcoming plan.
Jonathan couldn’t suppress the urge to pick on Devin. He reprimanded his grandson for being a fool before instructing those from the military base to dispatch a team of elites to assist Sebastian.
Sabrina, who was there throughout the conversation, felt aggrieved and thought they shouldn’t blame Devin when their safety was the sole reason behind his decisions.
Devin wasn’t as incompetent as Jonathan remarked—he made up his mind to check out the hideout because he thought he possessed the capabilities to investigate it out without others.
After all, he was once the commander of the special forces.
They couldn’t get in touch with Devin because he was out of range of the reception towers. He had long made it to the bottom of the river of Coldridge with Jake since that was the precise location of the hideout.
“Devin, where are we? Are we still going ahead when we’ve been traveling nonstop for a little more than two days?”
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1275
The Shocking Truth
Jake regretted his decision to tag along with Devin because there didn’t seem to be an end to the alley. They were still in the middle of nowhere after walking nonstop for a long time.
Devin turned around after inspecting their surroundings with the torch. He announced, “If I’m not mistaken, this route leads us all the way to North Sea.”
“Huh?”
Jake thought he had been hearing things. He asked, “Are you serious? North Sea? Isn’t that a few thousand miles away from us?”
Devin found Jake hilarious because the man, who spent most of his time doing nothing, knew it was a mission impossible for him.
“I’m pretty sure there’s a checkpoint for emergencies since it’s such a long route. That’s the destination of the trip.”
“What are we going to do once we reach the first checkpoint?”
Staring at the map in his hands, Devin announced, “Once we reach the first checkpoint, we’ll see if we can make our way up and hail a cab home.”
Jake heaved a sigh of relief and thought it wasn’t a mission impossible.
Devin paid Jake a visit to get himself familiar with the town, but Jake insisted on tagging along when he found out Devin was about to go on an adventure. In the end, Devin had to bring Jake along for the trip.
After another two hours, Devin finally came to the end of the tunnel when Jake was about to go through another emotional breakdown.
On top of that, they heard the rustling sound of streams coming from afar. Thrilled, Devin announced, “We’re finally here!”
Unable to contain his excitement anymore, Jake rushed to Devin’s side and saw a dome that was about the size of a football field in front of them.
Jake was surprised by the sort of military equipment available in the spacious dome. He asked, “Are these military equipment? Is this some kind of armory?”
Devin was equally startled—he wondered if Judith had built such a magnificent hideout for her comrades-in-arms again.
Upon a simple inspection, he found out the equipment seemed to have been around for more than a decade. In short, it was safe to assume Judith was the brain behind everything.
This seems to be the contingency plan she has devised just in case of the worst. After all, there were countless variables because of the war.
It’s time to leave since there’s nothing else around here. If I don’t hurry up and show Jake the way out, I’m afraid he’s going to pass out for real. Where’s the entrance or the exit of this gigantic dome?
Out of the blue, Jake, who was behind Devin, stopped him and asked, “Wait, Devin! What is that?”
Once Devin turned around, Jake added, “What’s with the design of this grenade? Isn’t this too modern? It seems just like the ones in my game!”
Jake was confused by the grenades he accidentally discovered when he was about to leave because grenades weren’t really a thing a few decades ago.
Staring at the thing in Jake’s hand, Devin was taken aback by the ghastly possibilities awaiting them.
“Devin?” Jake turned around and repeated himself with a goofy look because the man ahead of him failed to answer his query.
Out of the blue, the man ahead of him turned around and unveiled everything nearby.
Swoosh!
He felt a chill running down his spines because there were countless grenades with a similar design there.
Others might not be aware of the presence of these weapons capable of mass destruction since no one seems to be aware of the precise location of the route.
Colors drained from Devin’s face as he continued unveiling everything nearby. He knew it was a dire situation the moment he found out the entire dome had been filled with similar weapons.
“Holy! What’s going on? There’s no way these have been around for more than a decade when they have such a contemporary design!”
It didn’t take much for Jake, an outsider, to tell the difference between the grenades from the ones more than a decade.
It took Devin quite some time to gather his thoughts. He finally stopped himself from shivering when he recalled he had to leave and get in touch with others as soon as possible.
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1276
Someone was here! They must’ve changed the weapons! Although those seemed to be weapons of the olden days, that’s not the case!
They’re merely trying to deceive others because these are precisely the weapons with nuclear waves we’re searching for!
In other words, the vicious man has turned these checkpoints into his personal armories! This must be the reason we couldn’t get our hands on these over the years!
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Once Devin linked the missing pieces of puzzles together, the clamor took them by surprise when they were on their to the ladder to get out of the checkpoint.
The confused Jake stopped and asked in an attempt to figure out the source of the noise, “Devin, what ‘s with that alarm?”
It was then Devin grasped Jake’s hand and rushed forward, urging with a serious look, “We need to hurry up and leave because this checkpoint is going to blow up soon!”
Jake finally figured out their lives were at stake. Therefore, he started climbing up the ladder with Devin at top speed.
Immediately after the alarm went off, they heard voices of the system counting down as if the entire armory was about to blow off.
“Ten! Nine! Eight!”
Holy! We need to hurry up!
Devin’s concerns were the safety of those nearby. He had to reach others to prevent a catastrophic event from bringing upon the demise of those nearby.
Otherwise, countless innocent lives might be sacrificed as a result of his recklessness if the first checkpoint was built under a densely populated city.
“Devin, what’s wrong with you? Hurry up and climb up the ladder!”
Jake, who was halfway through the ladder, yelled when he found out the man behind him seemed to have something else in mind.
Devin ignored him because his phone had finally regained signal to reach others. Without a second thought, he made a call and instructed, “I need you to check if there’s anyone inhabiting my current coordinate! If there’s any, evacuate the inhabitants at once!”
“Five! Four! Three!”
Seconds after he hung up his call, the weapons in the armory blew off and sent him flying away from the ladder.
Jake, who was slightly ahead of Devin, was sent flying in a similar manner due to the pressure.
Bam!
It was one of the most horrifying explosions Devin had ever encountered throughout his life. It wasn’t much of a surprise since those were weapons made out of nuclear waves.
The explosion was on par with the ones caused by weapons of mass destruction. Therefore, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to classify those as one.
The base of the spacious dome cracked when Devin thought it was the end of their lives. It seemed as if the explosion had triggered the self-defense mechanism at the checkpoint.
Bam!
In the nick of time, water gushed in from the crack and washed away weapons in the armory with strong tidal waves.
Jake and Devin were also washed away by the strong current shortly after the entire dome was filled with water.
Nonetheless, they thought it was a blessing in disguise since they might make it out alive once they braced themselves through the waves.
Devin tried to find his way to safety by running his hands across the wall shortly after he was washed away.
Thankfully, he managed to hold on to the rail in the middle of nowhere and stopped himself from being washed away by the strong current.
The weapons were washed away by the strong current within a few minutes. A muffled bang could be heard from time to time since some of those continued detonating in the water.
Holy moly! Was I merely a step away from hell?
Jake, who managed to stop himself from drowning by holding on to a net, was on the verge of breaking down once he gathered his thoughts.
“D-Devin, what the hell is going on? Are we still alive or not?”
It took Devin some time to gather his thought and verify the fact they were still alive. He remained silent while hanging to the wall.
Once he had a clear glance, he figured out the honorable woman had built the checkpoints nearby the sea.
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1277
She must’ve taken everything, including potential accidents of the armory, into consideration! It was one of her many countermeasures to build the route next to the sea to prevent catastrophic events in times of emergencies!
I’m sure the vicious Eddie isn’t aware of these! He thought of making use of the route to store the weapons for his personal gain, but he had never taken Judith’s countermeasure into consideration!
These are precisely the things setting them apart from one another! This is the reason he will never be a match for the honorable woman! She was the sole reason the nation triumphed in the war of North Sea!
By the time Devin returned to the ground, there was only a pile of rubble next to the seemingly bottomless hole in the middle of the dome.
Seconds after Jake rendezvoused with Devin, he asked, “What are we going to do next? Shall we head upstairs?”
Devin nodded and started climbing his way out of the dome with Jake again. It was another tedious journey, but they finally made it to the surface.
They secretly gulped when they saw skyscrapers all around them when they finally made it out of the dome.
It turned out Sebastian was nearby when he received the call from Devin. After conducting a thorough analysis with the copy of the military map he had, he concluded the first checkpoint of the route was somewhere nearby the coastal city.
Therefore, it didn’t take long for him to reach the duo shortly after the call from Devin.
Standing next to the ladder with his eyes glued to the bottomless hole in the middle of nowhere, Sebastian asked, “What just happened down there? Is everything fine?”
Devin could no longer pull himself together after making it out alive. He summarized the series of incidents he had just gone through with Jake and shared his speculations with Sebastian.
Sebastian couldn’t believe the duo was almost dead a few minutes ago. It took him some time to snap out of bewilderment.
Judith was truly an awesome woman!
Seconds after he climbed down the ladder to the dome and inspected the surroundings, he dispatched a team to investigate the rest of the checkpoints.
Another team was also dispatched to inform the authorities of the cities along the route because there might be similar armories throughout the checkpoints along the route.
He returned and helped Devin up after ensuring he had everything in place to ensure the safety of the innocent inhabitants.
Sebastian asked in a sarcastic manner, “Shall we rush you to the hospital?”
“That won’t be necessary,” Devin announced while shaking his head. He turned around and looked at Jake.
A few seconds later, he burst out laughing because Jake wouldn’t stop muttering to himself. Devin suggested, “Why don’t you rush him to the hospital instead? He must be horrified after going through such a life-threatening incident.”
Jake complained with a frown, “Sebastian, he’s making fun of me again! I’m not as wimpy as he says!”
“Indeed, it was very courageous of you to keep him company for the mission.” Sebastian thought Jake deserved to be complimented.
The trio leaned against one another since two of them were heavily injured and unable to move around without others’ support.
“Shall we send you home tonight?” Devin asked.
“Can we not? I’m afraid Dad’s going to pick on me for trying something reckless if he’s aware I’ve accidentally injured myself again!” Jake rebuked.
Seconds after Sebastian heard the bickering duo’s conversation, he offered, “If that’s the case, I’ll check all of you into the most luxurious wards available in the hospital.”
The trio thought it was great to gather around after being apart for such a long time. They couldn’t help but recall the good old days they spent together.
Unfortunately, things would never be the same because there were merely three of them left when there were once four of them.
The one supporting the heavily injured duo fastened his grip in silence and warned himself to keep his friends safe at all costs.
Sebastian headed out early in the morning after spending a carefree night with his friends. He was set on a journey to destroy the rest of the armories as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the injured Devin had to stay in the hospital due to the aftermath of the catastrophic event.
On the other hand, Jake’s father had shown up and brought him home shortly after Sebastian’s departure in the morning.
He asserted in a serious tone when he was at the hospital, “Devin, if you truly consider Jake a close friend of yours, please stop getting him involved in something similar in the future.”
Jake’s father and Jake were also members of the army years ago. As a matter of fact, Jake and Devin became acquainted during their time in the army.
When Jake’s father realized the risk associated with the occupation, he thought of dissociating himself from the members of the army. In the end, he joined the corporate world.
Devin would never resent his friend’s father in spite of his harsh remarks. After all, the man in front of him had tried his best to stay away from the army over the years.
In the end, Jake had no choice but to leave with his father.
It was meant to be a trivial incident, but the call Sebastian received unveiled the serious accident going on behind the scene.
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1278
“Hello?”
Sebastian was about to detonate another armory of the many checkpoints, but he paused when the man on the other end asked with a hoarse voice, “How many of my armories have you destroyed?”
“Eddie?”
The man on the other end guffawed because Sebastian’s murderous intent was all over his callous tone.
“Yes! It’s me! Answer me! How many armories have you destroyed?”
‘What do you think?”
“Judith set up more than ten checkpoints throughout the route that was a few thousand miles. I think it’s about time for you to take out the armory of the third checkpoint.”
He carried on with the conversation in a casual manner just like he had nothing to do with the armories.
Sebastian sneered and announced, “I’m so sorry to let you down because I’m down to the last one as of now. You don’t think I’m going to take it one at a time, do you?”
Eddie couldn’t remain calm anymore. Gritting his teeth, he stuttered, “Y-You—”
The duo had one thing in common—the intention to take out the other party.
In order to provoke the already irked Eddie, Sebastian switched to speaker mode and detonated the armory after a few seconds.
Bam!
It wasn’t even necessary for Sebastian to explain he had just blown up another one of Eddie’s many armories.
Irked, Eddie yelled, “Sebastian, you’re going to regret your decisions!”
Sebastian dismissed the man and hung up the call before casting the custom-made lighter toward the flushed away explosives.
The weapons wouldn’t be much of a threat as soon as it was soaked. However, it was of utmost importance to make sure no one could get their hands on it.
The lighter had been custom-made to destroy the weapons once and for all.
After a few minutes, Sebastian received another call. As irked as he might be, he picked up the phone and asked, “What?”
“A-Argh!” someone started shrieking the moment the connection was established.
Sebastian looked at the screen of his phone and saw Jake yelling, “N-No! S-Spare my father!”
It turned out Jake and his father had been taken into custody against their will shortly after their departure from the hospital.
They were imprisoned in some sort of warehouse. Jake’s father was on the verge of passing on while Jake was tied up.
“Sebastian, you should’ve seen this coming the moment you thought of picking on me!”
Shortly after the vicious man finished his warning, he launched a powerful strike in the direction of the barely conscious man with a hammer.
In split seconds, there was blood all over the place. The defenseless Jake continued yelling hysterically as his father passed on right before his eyes.
It was finally Sebastian’s turn to yell at the man on the other end, “Eddie, set him free at once!”
“I thought of setting them shortly after our conversation, but you hung up on me! Haven’t you had a lot of fun destroying my things? It’s my turn to destroy the ones you hold dear in mind!”
As the heartless man returned to the side of the defenseless Jake with the hammer, Sebastian couldn’t take it anymore.
Never would he think he had to grovel himself at the mercy of the vicious man. However, he wasn’t given much of an option to keep his friend safe.
“No! It was merely a lie! There are quite a few left! As soon as you set him free, I’ll return those to you!”
Scowling, Eddie stopped and asked, “Are you sure you’re not lying?”
In an attempt to convince him, Sebastian showed him the map he had with his hands shivering against his will.
“See! You still have four armories at the underwater checkpoints nearby North Sea! I couldn’t destroy them in time because I hadn’t thought of the escape route for the team after detonating those checkpoints!!”
A few seconds of silence later, the man on the other hand stopped approaching Jake and returned to the phone.
“Well, you’re quite an intelligent man, aren’t you? Judith wouldn’t have passed on there if only she put herself ahead of others back in the day!”
“What? Are you telling me she has passed on in an attempt to unveil your malicious plan?”
“Yes! We had quite a serious conflict because I was against the idea of setting up underwater checkpoints! I warned her of unforeseen circumstances wiping us out, but she insisted it was the right thing to do! I had to prove her wrong! Voila, she must’ve regretted her decisions when she was on the verge of dying!”
Is this some sort of confession? It turns out this jerk is also the one behind Judith’s demise! I can’t believe he has brought upon the demise of such an honorable woman merely because he’s jealous!
Sebastian’s bulging veins could be seen on his forehead because he was very close to losing his cool.
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1279
In the end, Sebastian relented for Jake’s sake.
Thus, the plan to destroy the other three bases was aborted.
“Mr. Hayes, isn’t that too risky? From what I’ve heard, the ammunition stored in these three bases is way more superior to what we just destroyed. If it ever falls into Eddie’s hands, we’ll be doomed.”
Karl was worried sick when he heard the news.
However, Sebastian kept mum.
His face darkened as he stared at the base they just destroyed.
Karl was stumped.
What is he staring at? It’s just a big hole.
Karl followed his gaze.
“Can a submarine fit in the waters below?” Sebastian spoke up as he was hit with a sudden realization.
“Huh?” Karl was stunned.
“I don’t think so. The minimum water depth of most modern submarines is 400 meters. Even though we’re at the sea bed, I don’t think we’re in the deep sea since they’re capable of digging a tunnel here. Why? Are you thinking of making your way there using a submarine?”
“Yes.” Sebastian nodded in confirmation.
Indeed, the seabed was the best route for them to get there since they were being blackmailed by Eddie at the moment. However, if submarines won’t work, they would need to think harder for alternatives.
Restlessness engulfed Sebastian once again.
It was getting harder for him to keep his cool these days. He would lose his temper and get irritated very easily, especially after Felicity’s incident at the hospital.
In the end, he gave up and opted to wait for Jake’s news.
Meanwhile, Devin, who was at the hospital, had also found out about the unexpected turn of events. He found it hard to believe that they were going to hand the ammunition depot over to Eddie just like that.
“Did Mr. Sebastian not do anything about it? He’s just going to allow Eddie to get away with it?”
“Yes. So far there’s nothing from him. I’ve only heard Mr. Sebastian asking Mr. Frost if it’s possible to make their way over with a submarine. Mr. Frost told him no and that was the end of it.”
A member of the special forces reported everything that had happened in detail to Devin.
Devin found it even harder to believe when he heard the news.
Sebastian has no plans?
For real?
Is it because of Jake?
Well, he does look like someone who values friendship even though he appears indifferent. Devin couldn’t stand sitting around anymore and left the hospital with his injured lumbar spine.
“Major, are we going to rescue Mr. Chandler?”
“Yes. Sebastian’s hands are tied probably because of something Eddie had shown him. I need you to get me the advance team. I need to first pinpoint that old man’s location,” Devin said through gritted teeth.
Hence, he set off to hunt Eddie down after a few minutes of delay.
Sebastian wasn’t made aware of Devin’s plan since he was still in the tunnel. Nonetheless, he slowly came back to his senses after getting some rest.
“What time is it now?”
“It’s been two hours. Mr. Hayes, are we really just going to sit back and do nothing? I have yet to hear back from Mr. Chandler.”
Karl also felt as if something was off.
He would have blurted out his question if Sebastian didn’t look so tired in the past two hours.
Luckily for him, Sebastian stood up right after he finished speaking.
“Yeah. Call Xayden. I need to ask him something.”
“Okay.”
Karl quickly pulled out his phone and dialed Oceanic Estate’s number.
Sebastian was already reading the military map when Xayden picked up the call after about ten seconds later.
“Is there a way to make these bombs dissolve?” Sebastian asked the first moment the call went through.
“Pfft!”
Xayden wasn’t the only one taken by surprise as he spat out the mouthful of water he had just drank onto the lab table.
Even Karl’s eyes twitched and he looked away upon hearing Sebastian’s request.
Let the bombs dissolve?
My dear, do you even know what you’re talking about? These bombs have a boiling point of 1000 degrees Celsius. It’s impossible to dissolve them.
For the first time ever, Karl felt as if the Mr. Hayes he had held in the highest regard was merely human.
“N-No, Mr. Hayes, you can’t dissolve nuclear energy,” Xayden replied.
“So is there any way to dissolve or destroy these bombs in the shortest amount of time? I noticed that even after I set them alight using the lighter you gave me, the weapons are not completely destroyed in the waters.”
“That’s for sure. The sea water will only crystallize part of the aqueous solution in the lighter and prevent the nuclear reactor core from having a meltdown. You’re asking me to do the impossible right now.”
Xayden explained everything to Sebastian in layman terms through the phone.
His Secret Lover Returning from the Dead Chapter 1280
Sebastian kept quiet after hearing him out.
On the other hand, Karl was hit with a sudden realization.
No wonder Mr. Hayes kept staring at the sea bed just now. He was wondering about the lighter.
My dear Xayden is so smart!
“So how do you prevent the nuclear core from having a meltdown?” Sebastian spoke up once again after giving it some thought.
Xayden quickly referred to his messy notebook.
“By freezing it. Mr. Hayes, it’s still impossible to completely wipe off radioactive waste from the surface of the earth. Nuclear energy is so powerful that nothing on this earth can stop it.”
“Didn’t you stop it just now?”
“I just froze it. I’ll give you an example, what can you do when you can’t handle a live lobster in the kitchen? Well, throw it into the freezer and freeze it of course. It’ll stop moving then.”
Everyone was rendered speechless.
What a way to explain things.
Karl turned to face the other direction once again.
As expected, Sebastian’s face darkened upon his explanation.
However, he quickly came up with another idea for Xayden to work on.
“Then why don’t we just freeze it? Do you have a way to freeze this part of the ocean in the shortest amount of time?
“Pfft!”
Once again, Xayden spat out water.
He felt indignant. Does he think I’m God?
Xayden hung up the phone in the end. After a few minutes, Sebastian emerged from the tunnel and was back on land.
Fresh air rushed into his lungs in that instant and he became wide awake. It also made him feel a lot better.
Karl went after him. He spoke up when Sebastian kept forging ahead. “Mr. Hayes, what are we supposed to do now? Are we just going to sit around and wait for Xayden to come up with his new invention? Wouldn’t that be too late? There’s only one hour left before you have to meet up with Eddie.”
He checked the time on his watch.
However, Sebastian wasn’t particularly bothered.
“Did I ever say I want it now?”
“Huh?” Karl widened his mouth in surprise.
“I thought you want it now… S-So what are we going to do with the three bases?”
“We’ll just hand it over to him. Wouldn’t it be better if we can just wipe the slate clean? I wouldn’t need to waste so much time and energy to capture them if everything works out.”
Sebastian replied in a chilly tone as he climbed into the car.
Karl was at a loss for words.
He stared at Sebastian, who was seated inside the car by now, for a solid ten seconds as his brain went into overdrive.
What a crazy plan.
He wanted to beat Eddie at his own game by returning the bases back to him. He would then set up a trap to take Eddie out when he comes in to collect the ammunition stored in these three bases.
Will his plan really work?
After all, Eddie is a cunning old fox.
They never got anything out of him even after coming up with ways to take him down in this period of time.
Karl was worried sick.
Sebastian’s plan was absolute madness. He was going against all the rules in hopes that Eddie would fall for it.
It would be best if Eddie falls into his trap.
If not, he would be suffering a huge loss when he could have destroyed the three bases with minimal cost and effort.
Karl couldn’t seem to shake off the worry after thinking things through.
After one hour, Eddie finally contacted them. He kept his word and let Jake go.
“Sebastian, I will keep my promise since you kept yours. I’ve dropped Jake off at your first checkpoint.”
Eddie smiled with satisfaction.
Sebastian tightened his grip on his phone as he stared frostily at his phone screen, whereby Jake was blindfolded and tied up in a chair. He kept quiet and hung up the phone.
Karl immediately called his men in Coldbridge to pick Jake up upon seeing that.
Suddenly, however, he received a call from one of Devin’s men.
“Mr. Frost, any news about Mr. Chandler?”
Karl was stunned. “Yes. Eddie dropped him off at the first checkpoint just a moment ago. Why?”
“He’s there? That’s weird. We’re looking for Mr. Chandler as well alongside the Major, but his phone signal clearly indicates that he’s not there,” one of the members of the special forces piped up.
“Really? Where is he then?”
“The North Sea!” he answered.
The North Sea?
Karl was completely caught off guard.
Why is he at the North Sea?
He frowned. “But Eddie just told us that he dropped Mr. Chandler off at the first checkpoint. Could it be that that old geezer purposely placed Mr. Chandler’s phone at the North Sea to confuse us? Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did that.”
“You’re right. Okay, we’ll head over to the first checkpoint first to check things out.”
“Okay.”
After their brief discussion, it was decided that Devin and his men will head over to the first checkpoint to check things out.
