When it finally struck five in the afternoon, Vivian was ready to welcome all the other classmates who would turn up at any time.
She had already changed into a beautiful dress earlier on. When she heard the doorbell ring, she rushed to open the door at once. “Coming!”
“Ah! Lady Adalyn?” She was astounded when the guest and a few cars came into view.
It never occurred to her that the guest who reached the earliest would turn out to be Adalyn. Not to mention, she was the one who had hired Vivian as her personal designer right after she received the award previously.
Deep down, Vivian could not help but wonder. Why is she here?
Adalyn, who was exquisitely dressed, got out of the car and smiled friendlily at Vivian. “I happen to know that you are celebrating your seventeenth birthday today. Thus, I'm here to send you my best wishes. What's wrong? You don't seem happy to see me here.”

“Vivian Wand, I heard it's your birthday today. Here's your birthday present.” Wearing a look of haughty disdain, she handed Vivian a present.

It was as though she was a fairy among the others. Ever since she was in her teenage days, her earlier baby fat seemed to be fading away gradually. Her flawless small face had transformed into a perfectly dainty oval shape. Apart from that, her big round eyes were as shiny as the glittering stars in the sky. The others could barely take their eyes off her when they cast their look on her.
Undoubtedly, she took after both her parents' good looks, and there were no words to describe her breathtaking beauty.

Surrounded by the guests, Vivian stood like an elegant princess in front of her birthday cake with candles lit. She closed her eyes gradually amid the best wishes from her friends and Adalyn.

“No! Vivi!” Everyone was on pins and needles at what was going to befall Vivian.
At the eleventh hour, a black figure appeared out of nowhere and darted toward Vivian. Like a bolt of lightning, he wrapped his arms around her waist and jumped aside swiftly.

The next moment, the statue collapsed on the floor with an ear-splitting sound and broke into a few pieces! What a petrifying scene!
Everyone was rooted to the ground and at a loss of words for quite a long time, except Helena.
Hitting the roof, she glared at the figure who spoiled her plan with her flaring eyes. It was as though the intense resentment in her eyes had turned into a dagger that could rip him apart at any time. D*mn it! How could he have the audacity to spoil my plan? Doesn't he know who I am? I'm Ms. Helena from the prominent Goldin family!
Nonetheless, her heart thumped when the light of the living room was switched on again. Right that instant, a middle-aged man swiftly turned as though he was a beast moving agilely in the jungle. His hard-arched eyebrows and crew cut suddenly sent an inexplicable shiver down everyone's spine!

After regaining her composure, Vivian stammered, “Mr. Frost, w-why are you here?”
The moment she saw the man she had not seen for ages, tears started to well up in her eyes.
Karl put her down and patted her back gently. “Ms. Vivian, I'm around all the time.”
Everyone gasped as they felt a chill down their spine.

Again, everyone held their breath and could not utter any words.

Mustering up her courage, Adalyn asked, “Sir, what are you...”

Now that she has such a scare during her birthday party, I must get to the bottom of the matter for him!” Karl explained coldly.
In the next second, all the doors to the villa were blocked. Shortly after, the men in black started to have a body search for the guests.

The man who had spent his whole life going through numerous life-and-death moments was infuriated by the young girl's impudence.
In the next second, two men in black stepped forward to lift the young girl in the air effortlessly.
“Argh! Help! Help! Lady Adalyn, help me!” Feeling a rush of utter fear, Helena shrieked hysterically. She had no choice but to seek help from Adalyn.
After hesitating momentarily, Adalyn tried to rectify the situation by asking, “Sir, where are you planning to bring her? Are you heading for the police station?”
However, Karl only snickered. “No. Ms. Vivian's father instructed us to bring her back.”
His words sent everyone in an instant tizzy. As pin-drop silence ensued in the living room, nobody dared to utter any words again, including Adalyn.
It was because she knew too well about Vivian's family background. Even if Helena's father were there, he would not be able to stop them from bringing her back too.
One hour later, the villa was finally in peace again. Thus, Karl went up to check on Vivian.
He knocked on her door lightly and asked, “Ms. Vivian, are you asleep?”
“Not yet, Mr. Frost,” Vivian answered at once. Without hesitation, she got out of her bed and darted forward to open the door.
Karl was relieved that she did not look as bad as he thought.
“Ms. Vivian, I'm sorry for what happened today. It's my fault. You've had a scare due to my negligence,” he apologized awkwardly.
“Mr. Frost, you don't have to apologize to me. It's not your fault.” Vivian shook her head hastily and tried to appease him that it had nothing to do with him.
Regardless of anything, she would never blame him. After all, he had been standing on guard to protect her and her two brothers since they were young. How could I blame him for such a trivial matter?
Nevertheless, there was an unmistakable hint of disappointment on her face as she stood at the door with her head lowered.
Sensing her unhappiness, Karl asked in great concern, “Ms. Vivian, what's wrong? Are you feeling unhappy because of the hiccups during your birthday party just now? If that's the case, don't worry. I'll tell your daddy about it and request him to hold another one for you.”
He presumed Vivian was in low spirits because of the earlier incidents that rained on her parade.
Nevertheless, she only shook her head and tried to reassure him. “It's not because of that... Well, it's nothing, actually. Mr. Frost, just go ahead and settle your things. I need to go to bed earlier as I have to wake up early for school tomorrow.”
When she lifted her head again, a faint smile surfaced on her dainty face.

Late at night, the villa was back to its usual quiet moments again. The girl who had just turned seventeen years old tossed and turned on her bed for a long time before she finally drifted into sleep.
The following morning, she was awakened by Julia's, her housemaid's, voice which sounded from the garden. She heard Julia asking, “Ah! What are these? Are they petals?”
Vivian opened her eyes and looked up silently at the ceiling groggily with dark eye circles.
She only dragged herself up idly when Julia went up to her room to wake her up.
“Julia, have you cleared all the decorations away from the garden?” she asked suddenly.
“Yes, I have cleared everything. Ms. Vivian, you may go and have a look,” Julia replied respectfully, knowing that Vivian was very particular about cleanliness. Hence, she invited Vivian to go and check.
Moments later, Vivian headed toward the garden as suggested by Julia. Besides, she thought of checking on her plants, especially the lily and rhododendron that she brought from her hometown and planted in her garden.
Surprisingly, something caught her eye at once when she stepped into her garden. It was a light purple ribbon under her favorite rhododendron tree. Where is it from?
Vivian picked it up and asked curiously, “Julia, what's this?”
“Huh?” The housemaid approached her at once and explained warily, “Ms. Vivian, I'm sorry. We actually found a bouquet of withered flowers hung on this tree this morning. Sebastian, who happened to be next to her at the time, leaned in to have a look when he saw her shocked expression.
“Who is it from?” he asked coldly.
“I don't know. The maid says Vivi found it from the dumpster. Sebby, do you think Kurt gave it to her? No one else comes to mind if you ask me,” Sasha replied.
“Kurt?”
“Yeah, it's only found at Aquene Temple. I doubt Vivian's brothers and grandpa would send her such a thing on her birthday,” Sasha rationalized.
Sebastian fell silent after hearing that.
Those vines are unique to Aquene Temple. According to Master Shin, these vines grew from the ashes of the incense that were dumped in the soil outside the temple. That's why they smell just like the incense used in the temple.
“What's on your mind?” Sasha asked.
“Nothing. How is Kurt doing? Has he finished his exams?” Sebastian responded.
“I think he's sitting for the final paper today,” Sasha replied, feeling confused.
Why is he bringing that up? Shouldn't he be trying to find out who gave those vines to Vivian? If it was Kurt, then we should ask him why he gave such a gift to her. Doesn't he know that Vivian misses her family?

As the vines could only grow in certain soil types and had already withered, Vivian was unable to revive the vines no matter how hard she tried.
All she could do was sit on the stairs at the villa's door and cry her heart out when the housemaids threw the vines away.
Feeling useless for not being able to save the vines, Vivian grew increasingly upset and spent the following days looking depressed while at school.
It got so bad that even Helena being gone wasn't able to put a smile on her face.
Being her friend, Sonia wanted to try and cheer her up when she saw how depressed she was.

They found her sitting in the classroom all by herself. She was simply staring blankly into space, refusing to go anywhere even after the class was over.

“I don't feel like doing anything right now,” Vivian replied wearily with a dull look in her eyes.
It pained her friends to see her like this.
“Don't be sad, Vivi. Amelia said her grandma will be harvesting the crops in her farm this weekend. I heard she'll be needing some help with it. Would you like to join us?”
Having been friends with Vivian for three years, Sonia knew her personality all too well. Judging by her depressed state, she figured Vivian would probably refuse their invitation if they asked her directly.
That was why she deliberately said they were going to help Amelia's grandmother instead.
Being the kind-hearted girl that she was, Vivian agreed to join them even though she wasn't all that enthusiastic about it.

“Atlantius University!” Vivian replied proudly as if she was the one who got into the university instead.
The reason for that was that she genuinely cared about him, so she also shared his feelings of joy and sadness.
Oh my god! Atlantius University is a really prestigious university here in Yartran! Kurt sure is amazing if he managed to get in!
Sonia, too, felt really happy at the thought of that.
She was grinning from ear to ear as she said, “In that case, we can have Kurt join us this weekend! Since he’ll be new here, it’d probably do him good to relax for a bit before classes start.”

Although Vivian didn’t say anything in response, she felt really relieved to hear that.
The two of them then took a bus to the nearest train station and began their journey to Atlantius University from there.
Despite her status as the daughter of a wealthy family, Vivian never acted like one whenever she was out and about.

Looking Forward To It
Atlantius was a city with a very long history behind it.
Although it was not as economically advanced as the one Vivian was staying in, it had a very rich cultural heritage and a much slower-paced lifestyle.
In fact, it was so similar to Jazona that anyone from that area would fit right in.
As it was autumn at the time, the first thing Vivian and Sonia noticed upon arrival was the golden and brown leaves scattered all over the streets.
However, the citizens were in no hurry to sweep the leaves away as they enjoyed the beautiful scenery it created.
For some reason, the sound of the leaves crunching beneath their feet seemed to soothe their hearts and ease their minds.
Vivian closed her eyes and tried to immerse herself in the beauty of it all.
Sonia, on the other hand, was busy trying to figure out the directions to Atlantius University using a map.
“Vivi, according to this map, it’d take us an hour and a half to get to Atlantius University by either subway or bus. However, we could get there in thirty minutes if we take a cab instead.”
“Then let’s take a cab.”
Eager to see Kurt, Vivian couldn’t be bothered to rely on public transportation this time.
The two then hailed a passing cab and headed for the university.
Being the chatterbox that she was, Sonia began asking about Kurt along the way. “Kurt is two years younger than us, right? That means he’s only fifteen now. My goodness, he must be a total genius if he can get into such a prestigious university at the age of fifteen!”
Vivian’s face was filled with a trace of pride when she heard that.
“Yeah! He’s super smart!”
“He really is! You know what, Vivi? I just realized the guys in your family are all really amazing! If I recall, one of your brothers is in National Defense University, and the other is working in a research institute, right?” Sonia asked.
As the two of them had been close friends for years, Vivian would tell her some stuff about her family.
As Vivian was a hardcore fan of her brothers, it was only natural that she would also tell Sonia about them.
“Yeah, they’re both really amazing. Unlike them, I’m so stupid that I haven’t achieved anything great even after studying for so long,” she replied, sounding a little dejected.
Sonia was quick to reassure her, “How are you stupid? You’re Lady Adalyn’s personal fashion designer, for crying out loud! That’s something most of us can only dream about!”
Unsure of what to say, Vivian simply lowered her head shyly in response.
Sonia was about to continue the conversation when Atlantius University came into view in the distance.

“We’re looking for a guy named Kurt Lopez. He recently enrolled in architecture here. Where can we find the faculty for that course of study?” Vivian finally spoke up.
Her voice was mellow, and her hair was tied in pigtails that rested against her chest, revealing her exquisite facial features that resembled a pretty porcelain doll.
The two guys found themselves captivated by her beauty, and even the blonde girl was a little taken aback.
“The architecture building is that way. Come on, I’ll take you two there.”
“Okay! Thank you, miss!” Vivian said politely as she followed behind them.
As the campus was really huge, both Vivian and Sonia were sweating all over by the time they arrived at the building about twenty minutes later.
“All right. That building over there is the one you’re looking for. You girls can go on ahead now.”
The blonde girl didn’t want to go any further, as she noticed the two guys had their eyes fixated on Vivian the whole time.
Just like that, the three students left while Vivian and Sonia made their way toward the building.
Sure enough, they saw the word “Architecture” written on the wall as soon as they reached the entrance.
Noticing a university staff ushering in the freshmen, Vivian ran up to her excitedly and asked, “Hi, has a student named ‘Kurt Lopez’ enrolled here recently?”

The university staff began checking the records after hearing the name.
Seconds later, she shook her head and said, “Nope. Are you certain that he is in this course?”
Vivian was sure that she had the right course, as her mother had provided her with that information.

“Don’t worry, Vivi. It’s still early right now. Maybe Kurt hasn’t arrived yet. I mean, he is flying all the way from your home country, so maybe we can wait for him here or something,” Sonia reassured her.

With that, the two of them sat down at a bench nearby and patiently waited for Kurt’s arrival.
The hours soon came to pass, and the staff member had already gone home at nightfall, but Kurt was still nowhere in sight.
“He’s not coming…”
Having spent the entire day waiting, Vivian buried her face in her hands and began crying on the spot.
Sonia reached out and hugged her tightly as she consoled her, “Now, now, Vivi… Maybe he got caught up with something today. Why don’t we head back first, okay? You can ask your mommy and daddy what happened before we come here again.”

Vivian looked up in response, and she squinted her teary eyes as she tried to get a better look at the figure that stood before her.

All of a sudden, it felt as if time had come to a halt as their eyes met.
It wasn’t until a few students walked past them that Vivian slowly regained her senses.
When Vivian finally saw the person she’d been waiting for, the overwhelming feelings that she buried in her heart exploded.
Without warning, she squatted down and burst into tears.
Upon seeing Vivian’s tears, Sonia was at a loss, not knowing how to comfort her at all.
Kurt froze on the spot as he saw her cry her heart out. The muscles in his pale face tensed.

Despite waiting for an entire day, Vivian ended up crying her eyes out when she finally got to meet Kurt. After her outburst, she left the scene without even talking to him.
Sonia couldn’t help but feel puzzled by her friend’s actions.
She shot a glance at Vivian’s retreating back before looking at the young man, who was clearly stunned. What on earth should I do?
“Kurt, you’re too much. Did you know that Vivi spent the entire day waiting for you? She even skipped her meals. What took you so long?” Sonia stomped her feet in frustration before she turned around and rushed toward Vivian.
Hearing this, Kurt was dumbfounded.
After a few moments, Kurt finally turned around to look at Sonia and Vivian. Unable to control himself, he clenched his fists and hurried after the duo.

Truthfully, Kurt was delayed.
Besides, he never wanted to attend this university. I clearly told Mr. Hayes that I’d be content pursuing my studies at University of Technology. But after receiving the results of my college entrance exam, I ended up receiving a notification from Mr. Hayes saying that he’d enrolled me in this school.
When Kurt first learned of this, he was upset.
After all, he didn’t want the past to repeat itself. Kurt had used to long after something that didn’t belong to him. Although he knew he didn’t deserve it, he couldn’t bring himself to let it go.
In the past six months, Kurt had finally managed to rid himself of that mindset.
Why on earth did Mr. Hayes make such arrangements for me?
As a result, Kurt attended his first day of school without much enthusiasm.
Finally, Kurt managed to catch up with them.
However, he quickly realized that Vivian was one step ahead of him. She’d already hailed a cab and hopped into the car. Sonia, who was following closely behind, followed suit.
Helplessly, Kurt watched the car speed off in silence.
Though he initially planned to chase after Vivian, he stopped himself from doing that.
He remained rooted to the spot and watched as the car disappeared from sight.

In the cold night, Kurt continued to glance at the spot where Vivian once was. After a moment, he withdrew his gaze, and his eyes were again filled with indifference.

The next day, Vivian woke up with a pair of swollen eyes.
When she opened her eyes, she was greeted with the bright glare of the sunlight that streamed through the window. Nevertheless, Vivian remained seated on her bed for a very long time. She felt as if she had been trapped in a stupor.
“Ms. Vivian, you are finally awake. How do you feel? Do you feel unwell?” Upon knowing that Vivian had awoken, the housemaid quickly attended to her.
Vivian glanced at the housemaid with a dazed look. After several moments, she came back to her senses, and she felt slightly light-headed.
“W-What happened to me?”
“You were down with a fever. When Ms. Sonia sent you home last night, you were burning up. I called the doctor over to treat your fever. It looks like the fever has subsided,” the housemaid explained hastily.
Oh, I was down with a fever… Vivian lounged on her bed for a short while before making her way to the bathroom.
“Ms. Vivian, I have not informed Mr. Hayes and Mrs. Hayes about your fever yet. Should I tell them about it right now?”
“There’s no need for that,” Vivian quickly replied.
I don’t want Daddy and Mommy to be worried about me. Besides, they might blame Kurt for this. Daddy might get mad and punish him because of my sickness.
After Vivian brushed her teeth and freshened up, she finally headed downstairs to have breakfast.

The morning sun that day had been particularly bright.

Stunned, Vivian looked at him with widened eyes and stood rooted for quite a while.

It was only then that Vivian came back to her senses and scrambled out of the bus.
Although Vivian had gotten off the bus, her bright eyes remained fixated on the bus as the bus drove off. Her heart pounded against her chest erratically.
It turns out that he knew about my fever. He even came all the way here to give me medicine.
Finally, Vivian’s mood brightened. She gazed at the medicine in her hand as though they were the world’s most precious jewels.

Vivian’s behavior left Sonia utterly befuddled. Sonia kept an eye on Vivian that day and realized that the latter was doing fine.
Well, it looks like Vivi is perfectly fine now. Did those medicines miraculously heal her from her fever?
Sonia shook her head and let out a sigh of relief.
Since the weekend was just around the corner, Amelia, who had asked them out to the farm this weekend, came looking for them to confirm their attendance.
“I’m fine with it. However, I’m not sure if Vivi will go. I’ll let you know after asking her about it,” Sonia replied.
She was afraid that Vivian might bail on their plans because she had fallen out with Kurt the day before. Furthermore, Kurt and Vivian were supposed to go together.
“Vivi, are you still planning to go to the farm this weekend?” Sonia asked once she found Vivian.
“Oh?” Vivian who was doing her revision looked up at her. The farm…
Vivian hesitated for a brief moment. A dark expression loomed over her face. I want to go to the farm. But I bet he won’t be willing to tag along. He wasn’t even willing to show up when I waited for him yesterday. Kurt probably wouldn’t have boarded the bus if I hadn’t fallen sick. He probably just wanted to give me the medicine.
A seventeen-year-old girl like Vivian tended to overthink. In the span of a few minutes, her mood took a drastic change.
As a result, Vivian remained gloomy until school was over.
“Vivi, are you planning to go home today?” Sonia asked in surprise when she noticed Vivian packing her bag.
Because they were both staying at the dorm, Sonia and Vivian usually only returned home once a week. However, Vivian had already left the dorm to look for Kurt the day before.
