The reason Yancy sent Akiko to Hayes Corporation was not so much for gaining insider information about the company. Rather, it was just to stoke Solomon to anger.

She wanted to make him her pawn again and undo all her past embarrassment.

Solomon was not the real reason why she was putting up a long fight. It was for herself—her own revenge. She had to crush those people under her feet.

So this is her real motivation.

The housekeeper finally understood Yancy’s plan and manipulation. It set her off in trepidation.

Over on the other side, Sasha finally managed to have a breather in the afternoon.

She had completed most of her work and there was nothing much left to do, so she got ready to go home.

She had been so occupied lately she did not manage to spend much time with her children. She did not even get to visit her father after he was released from prison.

Sasha packed her things and made a call.

“Hey.”

“I’m sorry, Madam. Mr. Hayes is still not back yet.”

Luke knew who she was looking for, so he immediately told her everything.

He’s still not back yet?

Who is he meeting? A big client? I haven’t seen him the whole day.

Sasha did not spell her questions. She hung up and left alone. She swung by the market to get some fruits before dropping by the Wand residence.

“Dad!”

“Sasha! What brings you here? You’re not working today?”

Rufus was elated when he saw his daughter. He ran out from the living room to welcome her with a wide smile on his face.

Sasha walked in and put the fruits on the table.

“I’m not that busy today as most of the things are almost settled already. What have you been doing these days? Where’s Lennie?”

Sasha was looking around for Lance, but she saw no sign of him. Instead, she saw two cups of drinks on the table.

“Did someone come by?”

“Oh, Uncle Jackson came by in the afternoon. I asked him to stay back for lunch, but he said he didn’t like my cooking, so he went back already.”

Sasha looked at her father as he spoke. Time had left its mark on Rufus and it broke Sasha’s heart to see him aged.

Although he was already out of prison, Heather was already gone. Only Rufus and Lance were staying in this house now. She could imagine how difficult things must have been for both of them.

Guilt budded in her heart.

“Dad, what about I move back in?”

“What nonsense. Why are you coming back? You’re already married, so you should just stay at the Hayes Residence. Frederick is already gone, so Sebastian is the only pillar of the family now. You should stay by his side to support him, instead of coming over to do household chores.”

Rufus was not amused when he heard Sasha’s proposal.

Sasha dropped the topic and proceeded to make dinner. The father and daughter chatted about each of their lives and Rufus was curious about how Sebastian had been doing.

Sasha’s countenance fell the moment he mentioned Sebastian.

“Dad… Sebastian has no idea about his real family…”

“What?”

Rufus’ hand froze as he held the vegetables. “He doesn’t know about it? I thought he’s already found his mom?”

“Yeah, but he still doesn’t know Frederick is not his dad.”

“Are you serious?”

“Yeah, Dad. Frederick did not tell him anything because he didn’t want Sebastian to go look for the Jadesons. As for that family, I’m sure you know they can go to great lengths to preserve their honor. Frieda was already pregnant back then, yet they refused to show any mercy on her. I don’t think they will spare Sebastian if they found out about him.”

Sasha opened up to Rufus and told him her deepest fear.

Rufus kept quiet pondering on the matter.

“What you said is true. The Jadesons won’t let him off the hook. I saw it with my own eyes how Shin went against his family. They even pointed guns at each other.”

Sasha was petrified upon hearing that.

What? They even pointed guns at each other? No way!

She felt a chill running down her body.

“We should keep this secret from Sebastian and the Jadesons. Do you hear me?”

“Alright.”

Rufus nodded solemnly.

With that, Sasha let out a sigh of relief.

At that moment, there were only three people who knew about this secret—Sasha, Rufus, and Yancy.

Yancy was the one who was difficult to deal with. Sasha would have to take deliberated actions.

Now that Rufus had promised to keep this secret, Sasha would need to deal with Devin next. He had always been close to Sebastian, so she would need to take care of this ticking timebomb.

Sasha could finally prepare dinner in peace, but her peace of mind was transient.

She still had to deal with Devin.

Little did she know, that man was actually with Sebastian right now.

“I’m sorry, Sebastian. I let my emotions get the better of me earlier on. I shouldn’t have said that.”

Sebastian came all the way from Avenport to the army camp after talking to Devin. He felt guilty when he saw Sebastian.

With that, things went back to normal.

After all, they were good friends.

Devin and Jake met Sebastian when they were in Sumanthova. Back then, Sebastian had not yet inherited Hayes Corporation.

Devin and Jake were there on a mission when they went to Sumanthova. Although Devin was already well-trained by then, he almost got himself and Jake killed.

They could have died if not for Sebastian.

Even back then when they first met, Sebastian looked like a cold and apathetic person, yet he got all three of them safely away from the killers with his wits and wisdom.

That was their first encounter. From then on, they became good friends.

After they got back to the country, Shawn tagged along with the group.

“Where is she?”

As usual, Sebastian was in a bad mood. He did not even look at Devin.

He scanned the military camp, looking for the culprit.

Devin was about to say something when he saw a frown spread across Sebastian’s brows.

“Sabrina Hayes! You jump over that wall and I’ll feed you to the dogs!” Sebastian yelled.

Devin trailed his gaze and looked back.

He had locked her up earlier on because he knew Sebastian would come, but it seemed like Sabrina had fled the room and was about to jump over the wall to sneak off.

Seriously. I can’t deal with these two.

Devin had no choice but to open the gate.

Sebastian dashed in and grabbed Sabrina by the collar.

“Ah! Sebastian Hayes! What are you doing?” Sabrina cried out when she fell to the ground. She glared at her brother and scolded him.

Before she could say any further, Sebastian stamped a loud hard slap on her face.

“Ouch!”

Sabrina curled up against the wall in fear, covering her face.

Devin came over and stopped Sebastian from beating her up.

“Hey, Sebastian, calm down. She didn’t cause any trouble for me at all. Just forgive her this once. She knew she did something wrong.”

“You want me to forgive her?”

Sebastian was like an enraged beast now. “Do you know why I came here on my own? I knew none of my men would be able to drag this mad woman home. That’s why I came all the way here and you want me to forgive her?”

Sebastian had totally lost it.

After hanging up the phone in the morning, Sebastian had asked Luke to make arrangements to get Sabrina back, but Luke got back to him saying none of his men could even go close to Sabrina.

She drove them all away.

There was no way Sebastian would go easy on her after everything she did.

With that said, Sebastian wanted to slap her again.

Sabrina could not take it anymore. She screamed at the top of her voice and told the truth. “Why are you hitting me? Sasha’s the one who came up with the idea!”

“What? Sasha?”

Both Sebastian and Devin were dumbfounded. Devin found it particularly hard to believe.

Are you serious? Sasha was the one behind this?

That is impossible. She’s always been a smart and polite woman. There’s no way she will come up with such an idea.

“You’d better not lie to me. Did she really suggest this to you?” Sebastian asked.

Sabrina realized she had blundered. She panicked and did not say another word.

This made Sebastian even angrier.

He was under the impression that Sabrina was lying just to get away from punishment.

“Fine. I see you’ve got some guts to lie in my face now. You should really get a taste of my wrath. Do you want me to send you away again?”

“What?”

Sabrina was on the verge of spilling everything. She sunk to the ground like a deflated balloon and started yelling.

“I didn’t do it! I’m not lying! She really asked me to come here. She said it will be too late for anyone to separate us once I get pregnant. That’s really what she said.”

Sabrina finally told the truth.

Sebastian was stunned.

Sebastian could not believe Sasha said this. His wife who grew up in a strict upbringing.

Now that Sebastian really thought about it, he realized things were unusual that night when he talked to Sabrina. Sasha appeared out of nowhere and the bowl of soup in her hand just dropped like that.

His heart skipped a beat trying to put all the dots together.

That was really weird. She doesn’t usually drop things as she’s always very careful.

A foreboding feeling crept in Sebastian heart.

“What else did she say to you?”

“She gave me Devin’s address and I ran here.”

Sabrina laid everything bare and said no more. I am sorry, Sasha…

Given the situation, it was definitely wiser to betray Sasha and apologize to her later than to face Sebastian’s fury.

Sebastian did not take this well.

Neither did Devin.

He was a high-ranking officer in the army. He was always on the move and his whereabouts were never certain. They would send him elsewhere whenever there was a need, but it seemed like Sasha knew full well where he was.

How did she even know that I’m here?

“It seems like there is a lot we don’t know about her. She even knows where I am.”

Devin was disturbed, but he did not get all serious with Sebastian.

Sebastian raised his brows thinking things through.

“How long have you known her?” he asked Devin.

“I’ve never seen her before until you introduced us.”

So they don’t know each other, yet she knows so much about him.

What is going on?

Does Sasha really want to ship Sabrina and Devin?

That’s impossible. There are a lot of other ways to get them together. She doesn’t have to do this. She clearly knows this will make things bad between Devin and me.

Wait. She knew this would hurt our friendship.

Sebastian seemed to have figured out something from the way he looked at Devin.

“What is it? What do you have in mind?” Devin asked.

Sebastian narrowed his eyes and kept quiet. He went and dragged Sabrina over.

“I’ll get back to you once I’ve got to the bottom of this.” With that said, Sebastian left with Sabrina.

They got in the car and sped off as Devin watched them.

Who exactly did Sebastian marry?

Before Devin could dwell on this question, a soldier ran in with an urgent report. “Major Devin, the General called. He wants to talk to you.”

“Talk to me?”

“Yes. It seems to be about what happened to Commander Shin then. Someone recently found the woman he married. The General was furious when he heard that. He wanted you to look into this.”

This soldier had been with the family for a long time. He knew most of the things about the family.

Uncle Shin?

Devin was taken aback as he was really shocked…

Over on the other side, Sasha had just finished having dinner with Rufus. It was already eight o’clock at night when she got back to the Hayes Residence.

Initially, she wanted to go and check on the children after she reached home, but she heard someone crying and slamming the door.

She knew something was wrong.

Is that Sabrina crying? I thought I let her out yesterday?

Sasha had a premonition that something grave was about to take place. Before she could even turn around, a voice made her jump.

His voice made her quiver in fear. She froze where she was.

Sasha mustered her courage and turned toward him.

“I’m not going anywhere. You are back,” she said with a smile.

“Don’t give me that face. I have some burning questions I need to ask you. Get the he*l upstairs!”

Sebastian saw through her tricks and asked to stop putting up a front. He walked upstairs and Sasha followed quietly behind.

Why is he so fierce…

Sasha’s hands and feet ran cold as she followed him closely.

Did something happen?

And Sabrina… why is she back? Don’t tell me Sebastian went to look for her today.

Sasha sucked a breath of cold air. She almost tripped over the doorsill because her head was all over.

Sebastian sensed her movement and grabbed her just in time before she fell.

“Why? Are you frightened? I haven’t even started questioning you.”

Do you have to call me out like this?

You should at least let me prepare myself. My heart won’t be able to take the pressure.

Sasha felt like she was going crazy.

“Huh…what? What did you say? Me? Panic? I merely tripped. What is wrong with you?” she asked as she looked at Sebastian with pleading eyes, hoping he would let her off.

To her surprise, this fail-proof trick had failed her this time. The man grabbed her by the collar and slammed her into the wall and forced her to stand still.

“That won’t work on me. So, let me ask you one more time. Was it your idea for Sabrina to approach Devin?”

“Yes…”

Sasha saw no way out of this situation and admitted it.

Anger instantly filled Sebastian when he noticed Sasha nodding her head. He was so mad, he almost fainted.

“Are you crazy? Why would you teach her that? You have made the Hayes family a laughing stock because of your stupid idea!”

“But she likes Devin. What’s wrong with having a crush on someone? She can make the first move if she wants to!”

“But that’s the Jadesons!”

“So? What is done cannot be undone, and it doesn’t matter if they’re the Jadesons!”

“He*l no! Did you forget what happened to his uncle? His life was ruined all because he wanted to marry an ordinary woman. You’re ruining her life. Besides, do you know that Devin and I can’t be friends anymore if that happens?” He was so pissed he wanted to strangle her.

However, Sasha’s eyes gleamed when he heard those words.

Why is that? Does that mean my plan is working?

She instantly felt less guilty when she heard his words. Instead, she was rather pleased that she didn’t hide it.

“I knew you wanted to break us apart.”

The man calmed down when he noticed her expression. He became a completely different person and spoke indifferently.

Sasha was shocked when she saw the change in his expression!

What is he talking about?

Her face went pale as the color drained from her face.

“I was thinking all this while. You’re a smart person, so why would you give Sabrina such an idea? You guys are friends, so why would you want to taint her reputation before she got married?”

Sasha did not answer as chills went down her spine.

Oh my god. He’s such a cunning man. Who knew he’d think of such ideas to set me up.

“Then, I realized what your plan was. You did this to put Devin and my friendship to the test. Consequently, as the heir to the Jadesons, Devin couldn’t marry Sabrina by then. As for me, Sabrina’s brother, you knew I wouldn’t allow this to happen to her.”

“We would eventually fall out and become enemies. Am I right?” He walked up to her and asked condescendingly.

He stared at her as waves of emotion churned within his heart. He was confused, disappointed, sad, and angry at the same time.

I don’t understand why would she do that? Why would she want to separate Devin and me?

Sebastian hovered over her like a tower and stared at her, waiting for an answer. She began to tremble as tears rolled down her cheeks. It didn’t take long before she couldn’t hold it in anymore and decided to spill the beans.

“Yes, I don’t want you to get too close to him,” she said.

Sebastian narrowed his eyes and asked, “Why? Do you know him?”

He asked her the same question as he did to Devin in the past.

However, Sasha shook her head.

“I don’t. But, I was scared as soon as I heard the things you said about the Jadesons. Besides, when I was imprisoned by Yancy in Japan, she told me stories about the Jadesons. She’s a powerful woman, so she must know the family.”

She lied to Sebastian as she pulled his sleeve with teary eyes. She did it just to make him believe her.

Yancy?

Sebastian’s expression instantly changed when he heard the name. It was as if a wave of realization hit him and everything made sense.

“So, you were worried that Yancy would gang up with the Jadesons and go against us? Is that why you didn’t want Devin and I to get closer to each other?”

“Yes.”

She nodded her head as tears continued to roll down her face.

Sebastian was speechless.

His heart ached as he saw tears rolling down her face endlessly.

Forget it, you’re such a fool!

Sebastian decided to let it slide as he hugged her. He then gently wiped the tears off her cheeks and sighed.

During nightfall, Sebastian woke up and glanced at Sasha, who was sleeping soundly in his arms.

He silently grabbed his phone and sent a text. ”Find out the relationship between the Hayes and the Jadesons.”

Although Sasha had successfully dodged a bullet, she was still worried on the next day.

She dared not act rashly to avoid triggering Sebastian.

However, she didn’t expect to receive a call from Yancy when she arrived at the office the next day.

“Sasha, it’s so long since we last met. How have you been?”

“What do you want?” Sasha asked as she began to tremble out of fear and anger.

She was fearful too.

“Nothing. I just wanted to thank you for letting my son off the last time. I know he would have been in deep trouble if it wasn’t for you,” Yancy replied sweetly. She sounded like she was elderly, speaking to the younger ones.

Well, of course, Sasha didn’t buy that act of hers.

However, since she put it this way, Sasha responded coldly, “Don’t mention it. Just don’t forget your promise.”

“Of course, I won’t. Don’t worry, Sasha. I’m not the kind of person who breaks promises.” Yancy smiled.

Sasha did not respond and sighed in relief. Yet, before Sasha could hang up, Yancy continued.

“By the way, I want to ask about the Sinch Enterprise. I wonder what does Hayes Corporation plans to do with it? Would you mind telling me?”

“How would I know? I’m not in charge of this!” Sasha snapped.

Yancy was not upset by Sasha’s words. Instead, she softened her tone even more.

“Oh, come on. Don’t be upset! I merely wanted to know how much Sinch Enterprise has lost so I can do some damage control on my end. You should know, Sasha, the Hayes Corporation is supposed to be my son’s business. Hence, I wouldn’t be very pleased if it suffers a great loss.”

Her heart began to pound like crazy when she heard Yancy’s words as her small face turned as pale as a sheet!

“You…what exactly do want, Yancy? I warn you, don’t cross the line.”

“Tsk tsk, why are you saying this again? Didn’t I tell you already? I’m not asking you to do anything else. All I want to know is this, can’t you just give me some leads? Don’t be so uptight,” Yancy said as she guaranteed that she merely wanted to know about the lawsuit between Hayes Corporation and Sinch Enterprise.

Is that really all she wants to know?

Sasha didn’t know what to do as her mind was jumbled up.

“Alright, just wait for my call. I’ll get what you need and contact you soon. Don’t ever call me again.” Sasha agreed to her request and hung up.

I have no choice to do as asked. If I didn’t, I can’t say for sure what she’d do to me.

Then, Sasha made a call to the legal department.

“Hello? I’m Ms. Wand, from the operational department.”

“Hi, Ms. Wand. What can I help you with?”

The staff from the legal department became very polite when they knew it was Mrs. Hayes who called.

Sasha paused and pursed her lips before asking, “I would like to know about the progress of the lawsuit against Sinch Enterprise. What’s the status now? “

“It’s almost at the conviction stage now. However, it’s taking a little longer than usual as it is an international case. But, we have submitted all of the evidence. According to the regulations of the International Arbitration Law, the trial results are legally valid when one files a lawsuit at the local court where the contract was signed. Therefore, all we need to do now is wait for Sinch Enterprise to send someone to attend the hearing.”

“What if no one does?”

“It doesn’t matter. As long as we have solid evidence against Sinch Enterprise, they would still be found guilty even if no one shows up.”

The staff assumed Sasha was concerned about the case. Thus, the staff from the legal department explained in detail to her.

Sasha instantly understood the entire situation.

So this means that the lawsuit is coming to an end.

Suddenly, she was reminded of Yancy’s words and decided to ask something else.

“I see. So what happens next if they are found guilty?”

“The Sinch Enterprise would have to pay compensation that is doubled the amount of fraud he had convicted. Similarly, the person in charge has to bear its legal responsibilities as well. However, this case involves a huge sum of money. So, whoever is responsible would receive two to three years of jail term according to the laws of our country.”

“What?”

Sasha’s heart dropped when she heard those words.

She didn’t care if the person in charge had to be sentenced to prison. She was worried about what Yancy had said in the call. She mentioned that she would be upset if the prices were too high to bear.

What if her mood turn sour, would she then…?

Sasha panicked.

Her mind drifted to her thoughts as she lost focus after the phone call. She sat in her office, absent-mindedly, the entire afternoon.

Her thoughts were still all over the place even during lunchtime.

“What’s on your mind?”

Sebastian sat across her as he watched her put a piece of onion in her mouth. He quickly grabbed her fork to stop her.

“It’s…it’s nothing. I was just thinking if Sabrina would talk to me again. She called in this afternoon and gave me a round of hard scolding,” Sasha lied.

Sebastian didn’t doubt her words. Instead, he placed his fork down and handed her a bowl of soup.

“No, of course not. She won’t hold a grudge on you, silly. Let’s not forget she’s dumber than you are.”

What is that supposed to mean? Did he really have to say that?

Sasha waited on him as he finished his food before asking, “So…about you and Devin. Are you guys cool now?”

“What do you think?” Sebastian asked as he slowly wiped his hands with a napkin and stared at Sasha.

Sasha’s heart began to pound as a sense of guilty conscience came over her. It was as if she was caught doing something bad.

“Why are you asking me? It’s your business, anyways.”

“I know. But, aren’t you the one who warned me not to get close with him? So now I’m asking you, should I distance myself from him?” Sebastian asked seriously.

Sasha’s mouth gaped wide open in surprise.

She stared at him like a fool for some time before she asked, “You’d listen to me?”

“Of course.” Sebastian nodded solemnly.

Sasha gulped and pondered for a moment before she answered. She eyed him cautiously and clenched her teeth and replied, “Yes! I think it’s better that way.”

Sebastian grinned. “Hmm? Why do I have the feeling that you see him as a monster?”

“Am I wrong? I just think that you should be more cautious about it. Yancy is the best example, she’s full of tricks! Who knows what sort of dirty tricks she has up her sleeve? Hence, we’d better have our guards up.”

“Well, if you don’t want to break off your friendship with him, you could also reconcile after you’ve dealt with Sinch Enterprise and Yancy.”

Sasha was worried Sebastian might be upset. So, she deliberately said it childishly and glanced at him, puppy-eyed.

“Hmm.”

The corner of Sebastian’s eyes twitched vigorously!

What a silly girl!

He shook his head helplessly as he didn’t believe her words.

However, I would stop contacting Devin for now if that’s what she wishes. Although she tends to say all sorts of nonsense to me, I know that she wouldn’t harm me. Never ever!

The couple rested for a short time after lunch before they headed back to work.

Yancy was not surprised at Sasha’s behavior.

Yet, Yancy’s housekeeper was confused.

Why did she ask her to find out about the lawsuit even though she knew Sasha wouldn’t be honest about it? Wouldn’t Akiko be a better choice for this task?

“Mrs. Tsurka, so what is the purpose of this…?”

“It was only the chance for me to contact her once again. Or else, what reason would I have to approach her? I am someone who keeps my promises you know…”

Yancy was trimming the flower branches in her garden as she laughed so hard her features were distorted.

A man of his words?

The housekeeper instantly understood her motive as her heart went cold.

So this was her plan all along, she set Sasha up just to make her lie. Once she does, Mrs. Tsurka would state that Sasha lied to her. Not only would the Hayes Corporation ask Sinch Enterprise for compensation, but Mrs. Tsurka’s son would also have to prison. I’m sure she would be very upset and angry.

Once that happens, she would have the power to control Sasha once again.

What a terrible woman she is. I can’t believe she’s so vicious and scheming to such a point…

“Speaking of which, where are the photos? Have you gotten them?”

“Yes.” The housekeeper sent Yancy the photos she asked for.

It was two photos of Sasha working in the company. Yet, the photos of her were much more eye-catching this time.

For example, the first photo was Sasha discussing work with the staff of her department. She wore an elegant and professional-looking suit paired with light makeup to complete the look. She looked like a leader with a bold personality yet didn’t overshadow her femininity as a woman.

All in all, she was heartthrob.

As for the second photo, it was even more interesting.

It was a photo of Sasha and Sebastian. The couple wasn’t often seen together in public nor do they display public affection to avoid suspicion or gossip. Sasha would always visit Sebastian at his office or they’d meet at the lounge on the top floor.

It was a white misty morning and Sasha got of a black car. Before she could react, a man wrapped her up with a thick jacket to shield her from the cold. The man looked at her lovingly with a shy smile.

Yancy was jealous of the sight of it, not to mention Solomon.

I’ve never met a man who could love me the way Sebastian loves Sasha!

“Mrs. Tsurka?”

“Okay, send this to him. Oh, do send the documents Akiko sent us to him as well. I hope this would serve as a good wake-up call for him,” Yancy spoke harshly as she went back into trimming.

A few minutes later, Solomon, who was in Sinch Enterprise, Terrandya, received two files.

He opened the first file that revealed two photos. His eyes were instantly glued to the first as he stared at it for a long time.

Then, he flipped to the next photo that was a photo of Sasha and Sebastian together. His eyes quickly turned red in anger as he clenched his fists so hard that the pencil broke into two.

However, that was not the only thing that upset him.

He lost control of his temper when he saw the second document before his eyes when he noticed the title of the document. It stated “2-3 years sentenced” above.

Sasha was worried sick for the past couple of days. But thankfully, Yancy had yet to contact her ever since. Similarly, there wasn’t anything odd going on in the legal department as well.

“Mrs. Hayes, Christmas Eve is around the corner. I would like to return home for the holidays. Do you have any plans while I’m gone?” Wendy asked.

As soon as Sasha had her breakfast, Wendy told her about her plan to return home during Christmas.

Oh man, she’s usually the one who takes care of the matter in the house. But now that she’s gone for the holidays, I’m going to need an adult to stay home to look after the kids and my insane mother-in-law.

“My mom’s not in her best condition and the kids are so young. You can’t deal with them on your own. So, I’ve already hired someone else to look after them. However, if you’re still worried, you may ask your dad to come over,” Sebastian explained his plan to Sasha.

Sasha widened her eyes. “Wait, get my dad here?”

Sebastian nodded. “It’s almost Christmas. Don’t you want him to be by our side during the festive season? Lance would return home by then too, right? How could you allow your dad to spend Christmas on his own?”

“Ms. Wand, it’s a project started by a real estate company in Summerbank. They wanted to build a hotel, but something happened to them. Hence, the government decided to auction the building. Please take a look at this! I’ve already collected some data on its surroundings.”
