Alexander was always thoughtful and kind. No one knew it better than her. Lily looked around her new workplace and could feel that she was slowly but surely inching closer to her dream.

In the past, her family was against it when she first started studying to be a perfumer. Then, she fought and left them estranged when she got together with Nathaniel. During the competition, she also doubted her abilities when she lost. It led to her shutting herself out from the world and willingly working as a perfumer in the background. Alexander probably found this situation awkward as well. He was always calm and collected, but now he looked stiff and uncomfortable. He strolled toward her, “This is for you.”

Her hands were still behind hier back, and she was not planning to accept them anytime soon. Alexander frowned, “Must it be a special day to give you slowers? Why can‘t I give them to you on any day? Just take it!” It looked strange for a man like him to hang onto such a huge bunch of roses.

He took her hands and placed the flowers into lier embrace, forcing her to accept them. Lily smiled uncontrollably as she saw that he could not wait to get rid of them. He was such a boy, and Lily would not have expected anything romantic from him. Look at how he was trying to give her flowers. It was just so awkward. She was thankful that their marriage happened so fast and that it was a secret from the public. If he had to propose to her openly, she did not know what to expect.

“Of course I do. They‘re beautiful!” She laughed and nodded.

Lily only laughed louder when she heard him ask.

“Stop laughing!” Alexander demanded and kissed her full on the lips.

This was the best way to end her mocking laughter. He was a bit annoyed with himself. A wave of helplessness rushed over him, and although they were only getting started, it did not seem to be going well. Should he continue with his plan?

Alexander was regretting his decision now. He should not have taken advice from Edward. That guy had no experience with women. This was what happened when two men without many experiences with relationships tried to come up with romantic ideas. They searched for suggestions online and chose those that obviously were not very good.

After the long and passionate kiss ended, Lily could feel her body temperature rising. This also succeeded in stopping her laughter. “Thank you for the flowers. I really love them,” she stared at the slightly crushed flowers in her arms and whispered.

Alexander was finally satisfied when he heard her say that. This was the reaction he had wanted.

“Shall we leave then? It‘s getting colder,” he asked her softly while leading her to the direction of his car. Alexander suddenly recalled his plan, “Wait a minute, let me show you something.”

Lily felt he was not his usual self today as he released her hands and took out something from his coat pocket. They looked like... sparklers. Sparklers were supposed to be long and straight. Still, because Alexander took it out from his pocket, they were now folded in two different angles. They reminded Lily of withering sunflowers with their heads dangling.

Alexander did not expect this either. He had a mixture of shock and confusion on his face when he saw how the sparklers turned out. Lily wanted to laugh again when she noticed his funny expression.

However, she knew this would only buurt his pride, so she swallowed it with a cough and

added, “Are these sparklers? Do you want to light them up?”

Alexander immediately nodded, “Sure, let‘s do it.”

Though, he was unsure if they would light up. His original plan was to light these sparklers up as a signal for Edward, and when he saw them, he would know what to do. Yet, Alexander had folded them accidentally while keeping them in his coat pocket. He wondered if they would be able to light up as planned.

Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 553 ‘Ugh, to h*ll with it!‘ Alexander decided not to overthink it, removed a lighter from his pocket, and lit the sparklers. Surprisingly, the sparklers lit up, albeit only for a short while. He held them in his hands, and they looked pretty.

Seeing Alexander being this clumsy with a severe expression, Lily tried her best to hide her growing smile. She walked over and took one of the sparklers from his hand. “What now?” Alexander looked at Lily without saying anything. Then a soft clicking sound echoed, and their surroundings lit up brightly, to Lily‘s surprise. One light at a time formed a circle around them as they stood in the middle.

Lily did not know when Alexander had planned all of this, but it was apparent he had spent a lot of time and effort on it. There were lights all over the garden, including the ones on the trees. It looked like a huge stage, and they were standing right at the heart of it.

“What‘s all this about?” She turned toward the ‘mastermind‘ and asked while grinning. However, seconds later, her smile froze as slie stared in surprise at Alexander kneeling on one knee before her. He removed a ring box from his jacket, and a shiny diamond ring was sitting inside.

“I know this is not practical since it‘s inconvenient for you to wear it to work. Still, I wanted to give you a proper wedding ring,” Alexander said sincerely. He paused for a short while before asking, “Lily Christian, will you marry me?”

At that moment, Lily was at a loss for words. She drew her lips into a thin line, feeling a mixture of wanting to laugh and cry, “I‘m already married to you.”

They had even done their marriage registration, so why was he proposing to her now? “Then just marry me twice,“Alexander paused before continuing, “This time, I want the whole world to know you‘re mine.” He was still the same old strong–willed Alexander. Lily averted her gaze to somewhere else and back at him again. She smiled cheekily, “Can I say no?”

Alexander immediately stood up, one of his hands came to hold hers, and the other circled her waist, “Well, you can try.”

“Sorry, I can’t do that. Mrs. Tanner, perhaps you might need to find someone else, a more skillful perfumer, to help you with your request.” Lily rejected Eloise on the spot, which would

be easier than rejecting Eloise with the company’s help.

Eloise’s gaze flickered. “Why? You have ill feelings toward me?”

“Of course not,” Lily said. “To me, a perfumer would need to understand their customers well, from their personality, likes and dislikes, as well as hobbies, to create a perfume for them. That’s necessary for the perfumer to create an ideal and suitable perfume for the customer.”

Lily was surprised to hear that. She turned to look at Eloise with disbelief written all over her gaze. She did not understand how Eloise could tell her the secret she had been carefully hiding for decades so quickly.

“You don’t need to look at me like that. I know you’ve found out about it,” Eloise said faintly. ” I’m bringing this up because I want us to talk about things easier now that we’re on the same page. It’ll be difficult for us to talk with people around us. Since only the two of us are here, we can be honest with each other.”

“This has nothing to do with what you said. I rejected you simply because I can’t do it, and it’s not for any other reason,” Lily explained.

“Really?” Eloise leaned forward and stared into Lily’s eyes. Suddenly, she questioned, “Then let me ask you this; where is Nate now?”

Lily was puzzled. “How would I know that?”

“How could you not know that? All he thought about was you, and everything he did was to win you back. I remember you’re the last person he met before he went missing! Don’t you think you should know his whereabouts? Did he not contact you all this while?”

“Nathaniel is missing?”

“That is why I haven’t seen him in so long. I thought he was getting his life back together somewhere else and trying to accept his defeat, but he went missing. Still, how could a grown man like him go missing so suddenly? Did that happen because of the bankruptcy?‘

“You don’t know about it?” Eloise observed Lily, trying to see if the latter was lying.

“Sorry. I have no idea what happened. Since you know about my past relationship with Nate, I’m sure you know we ended things long ago. What he does has nothing to do with me anymore.” Lily shrugged. She felt nothing apart from the momentary shock after learning about his disappearance. Anything related to him, including his disappearance, was none of her concern.

Eloise said nothing at first. She just gulped her sparkling water and put the can down harshly before she exclaimed., “Lily, are you that heartless?! No matter what, you two had dated for a few years. Although I couldn’t tell you about my identity, I had always approved of you being my daughter–in–law.”

“I admit Nate did you wrong in the past, but the most valuable thing about a man is his willingness to admit his mistakes and change for the better. He knows what he did wrong and promised to return to you, so why can’t you give him another chance to prove himself? Don’t you have any feelings for him anymore?”

After a short pause, Eloise seemed aggravated about the situation and said with a heavy heart, “I don’t believe you don’t love him anymore! You’ve done so much and sacrificed a lot for him back then. That means you still love him, right? Alexander is indeed a great man, but it’s not easy being the wife of a wealthy and influential man.

“I’m speaking from experience, and I can tell you that the Russells are not the kind of people you want to get involved with, Lily. Even the Lodge family won’t be able to protect you by then.”

Again, she continued, “Silly girl! Rather than getting mixed up with the Russells, why don’t you just be with Nate? I can provide the two of you with the resources to start over again, and I’m sure you guys can make it as long as you work together. A real couple goes through difficult times together!”

Lily chuckled at Eloise’s words. ‘She sure knows how to be considerate of me. I’m going to tear up because everything she said is for my own good.‘

“Well, thank you so much, Mrs. Tanner! I can see that you’re giving the suggestions because you want me to lead a better life,” Lily said, smiling. “You’re agreeing to it?” Eloise was overjoyed.

“What did I agree to?”

“Y–You just said…”

“Firstly, the most valuable thing about a man is not his willingness to admit to his mistakes. and change for the better, but humility and modesty. When we were together, all he did was take advantage of me, so what love is there between us? As for…” Lily paused for a moment before adding, “As for why he regretted it after that, it’s because he realized I could bring more benefits to him. It’s because Melanie dumped him. Am I right?

“It’s not…” Eloise wanted to explain, but Lily interjected, not allowing her to defend her son. Next, it’s unknown that mixing with the Russells would be a bad choice, but you did agree that Alex is a great man. I want to correct you on that; he’s not just a great man; he’s a man Nathaniel can never compare to, so why would I give Alex up and choose Nathaniel? Can you give me a reason why?”

At this point, Eloise had a terrible expression on her face. However, Lily was not going to stop anytime soon, continuing, “Lastly, I think you’ve forgotten about the most important thing. Didn’t you say that Nathaniel has gone missing? You wanted me to be with him, but how could I do that when I don’t even know where he is? Also, are you sure you can find him?”

“What are you trying to say?” Eloise tried keeping her composure up until this point, but she could not do so after hearing Lily’s last sentence. Her expression had already turned sour, and her grip on the can of sparkling water tightened as she crushed it.

“It’s nothing.” Lily coldly glanced at the crushed can in Eloise’s hand, unaffected by her. “It’s just that from my understanding of him, he might not be able to take the hit this time because of how self–centered and prideful he is. If he could accept it, there would still be a chance for him to start over, but he might still want to give up on life or something.”

“Are you cursing him?” Eloise’s gaze was shooting flames at this point. ‘How dare this woman. curse my son?!‘

“I’m just analyzing the situation objectively, but then again, I might be wrong. After all, I didn’t know what Nate was really like in the years we were together. If I did, he wouldn’t have been able to trick me for this long, would he?”

Then, Lily glanced out the window. “Well, I guess that’s about it. I think I made myself pretty clear. You can stop the car in front and bid farewell to each other.”

“Are you honestly not going to help with my perfume?” Eloise asked, her gaze dark.

Lily just looked at her and said nothing. It was a silent rejection.”

“Do you think you have nothing to fear just because you have Alexander protecting you?” Eloise scoffed. Her attitude changed pretty quickly. She was not as sincere and friendly as she was a while ago.

‘She’s indeed a great actress. Her expression can change so quickly.‘

“You’re right,” Lily admitted honestly. “I’m not afraid of anything because I have his support.”

Initially, Lily was afraid of other people’s opinions about how Alexander was too good for her

and of the rumors that would circulate. After going through so much, she realized that what other people said did not matter to her.

The most important thing was Alexander’s support and his understanding of her. She could be fearless because she had him in her life.

With a grim face, Eloise instructed. “Stop the car!”
