Ch. 71..75: The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate Chapter 71-75
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 71
Author’s POV…
“I swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God,” were the words of Edwina before revealing herself to Sonia.
Sonia’s world fell apart into a thousand little pieces as she knew she had been betrayed by her sister.
She was dumbfounded, and even if she wasn’t confined to the small space of her little box of through, she would have had the exact words to express how she was feeling at the moment.
How she was feeling wasn’t quantified in words because she, in all the moment, was angry but felt like she didn’t have the right to be angry because she had brought it upon herself by cheating on her husband. Giving her sister room to marry him.
Then she still felt bad because she had told Edwina not to get married to him, and she thought Edwina agreed, but now she was acting like an imposter and Savior at the same time.
She had just broken down in front of the whole pack about her past and the deep truth she had tried not to admit sometimes, even before herself. But now she felt another form of pain and hurt mixed into one.
“You may proceed with your statement,” Caleb said, and Edwina glanced at Sonia. They were both looking at each other intensely and wished that words could be spoken at this moment. But except they were resolute to start shouting like two sales market women with no sense of class, it would have to wait.
“Can you introduce yourself and the role you play in this case?” Caleb asked, and Edwina breathed out. At this point, she was way tensed. The only thing keeping her from running away from this stand was the fact that she had already revealed herself to Sonia. Whatever that will happen will most likely still happen, so she just has to swallow whatever courage pill she has left in her and do this one last thing before breaking down.
And she let out an exasperated gasp one final time.
“I was formerly known as Edwina Sinclair, but now, I am Edwina Alexander Chase,”
The spite and rage that fell on Sonia’s face was immeasurable upon hearing her words. She couldn’t believe it, and Edwina couldn’t believe it too. For the first time, she gets to call out Alex’s name as hers.
She never thought that moment would come, and she could see how enraged Sonia was by that word. The utterance of the word brought out another measure of hatred from Sonia.
Sonia thought she had finally started to get along with her sister and finally began to like her, but now she knew there was this thin line between love and hatred, and she had just crossed that line swiftly.
Another thing she hated about this situation was the fact that a lot of people would fault her for hating or despising what Edwina had just done. Because she had done similar things to her, and one could even say at a higher degree.
But “F**k her,” she muttered within herself.
And she despised the fact that she came every time visiting and listened to her talking about her prayers and her wish to get back to Alex, whereas she had him this whole time.
What happened to statements like… “Hello Sonia, I am married and f*****g your husband now.”
And now she is feeling angry and guilty at the same time. Edwina continued.
“I am the sister to the accused, the ex-wife to the co-accused, and the current wife of the accused.”
When she mentioned it, she saw how complicated it sounded and how she wasn’t sure how and when she got enrolled and entangled in this hot super premium mess.
“Thank you, so what is your statement about the case?”
Edwina then paused and breathed for a moment. She was anxious and nervous at the same time. She wasn’t sure she thought this through, she had allowed the emotion she was feeling at that moment to drive her to make a hasty decision that wasn’t well thought through, and now she was struggling to make a statement. Was she supposed to come here and exonerate Sonia of all the pain she had caused her and know that she couldn’t do anything but watch her lose her life in the worst possible way? In a way, that would hurt her and lose another life because treason means death, and she was the only one that could help her get exonerated from that case and keep her head in her body and let’s not forget, a life is aside from hers, dependent on her to live also.
And she glared at her again for the second time, hoping she could feed herself with enough pain to go on.
After all, this was Sonia. She was no saint. She tragically slept with the woman Edwina called her husband and then got pregnant for him. That was the height of it for her, and to her, there was no coming back from that, nor was there amnesia of any sort.
And then Edwina began to speak.
“Being one of the affected parties of all these, I know first hand of all the pain I had gone through.”
Edwina’s mind strode a little to a time with Ben, and she wanted to feed herself with much strength from hatred in order to get the task done.
It was the moment they had made love in the shower, the moment she had realized for the first time in her life that she loved him.
***Flashback***
“Gosh, Edwina, you are so beautiful.” He apprised her with a glimmer in his eyes, and she could see his desire for her. He swiveled back, turned on the shower, and removed his sweat pants, and they were both naked again.
He stretched his hands for her, and she took his hands, and they began to k**s. All the way to the shower, and as the hot water poured down their skin, so did the passion that burned out through them.
She was gently moaning as the k**s deepened, and his hands were fondling her breast. And as he lowered down to tease her nipples with his tongue, she let out a loud m**n, and he took in her nipples and began to suck them. She m****d louder, and his hands moved from her other breast down to her legs, and he found the sweet spot between them.
“Gosh, Ben,” she m****d again, she found so much delight in what he was doing, and she could feel him gasping. The taste of water and him sucking her has to be the best feeling ever.
“Ben!!!” She cried out as she couldn’t take the torture of his hands and mouth on me.
“Tell me to f**k you, Edwina,” he requested as the tension between them began to tighten.
“F**k me, Ben,” she begged, and with one swift movement, he lifted her, her legs wrapped around his waist and supported by his hands. He gently slammed her back against the bathroom walls and lowered her into his length as he thrust into her.
“F**k,” he exclaimed. He began thrusting in and out of her gently at first. She m****d slowly as the hot water rushed down their collided bodies. And he thrust into her again, this time deeper, harder, faster until their cum rushed down their bodies down with the water. He didn’t let her go; he took her mouth again and kissed her deeply.
***PRESENT DAY***
She knew that was all she needed to think of to go forth in that moment about how she had loved him in all her truth, and yet he still betrayed her. At this moment, she was ready to save her sister and throw him under the bus.
“Ben is a mastermind orchestrator of all these. He wanted power and married me to get to my sister, and then to get to the alpha with easy access from the woman he loved, and that is just the beginning,”
Then there was more to all she wanted to say.
And everyone wanted to know more.
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 72
Edwina’s POV…
I glared at the exiting crowd as they had adjourned the hearing for tomorrow. I am not sure if that’s what I wanted because I would have rather preferred we get this all over with today so that we can face other things.
Other things like the war that threatened in the pack or the fact that Sonia stood there motionless and indifferent throughout my testimony, I get to wonder what is on her head when she is thinking about it. I get to wonder about the battles she would also be fighting in her head to make sense of all these.
I get to wonder what she would be thinking, am I now the bad person in her head? It is so easy for people to paint you as the bad person and forget all the roles they contributed to actualize that reaction from you. We are all self-righteous beings. We are always so consumed by people’s actions and inaction and, occasionally, their responses to your action. Yet we tend to forget or lose in communication our actions that pushed them to that reaction.
And I know at this moment Sonia’s head was giving her a thousand reasons why I am the bad person in this play.
Well, f**k her. I don’t mean this; I am genuinely trying not to break down now. And I was also trying not to overthink things. Maybe she also felt half as guilty as I did for the role she had contributed to this also.
But I knew Sonia.
Her head doesn’t work that way. The guard was taking her away to the visitor’s room. I told them to take her there; I don’t see the need to prolong the inevitable. We would definitely get to have this conversation some more and someday. So why not today? Let me just get to do this now and face whatever comes my way tomorrow.
Alex was waiting for me as I reached him. He wasn’t smiling a lot. During my testimony, I practically exonerated Sonia from most of her crimes. I made her look more like the victim than the one who orchestrated all the crime.
“Hey,” I said to him, and he didn’t reply to me.
Gosh, how many battles do I get to fight today. He began to wheel himself away. And I followed behind him. I passed Caleb, who glared at both of us. He had an estranged look on his face at this point in time. I knew not of whatever anyone was thinking. All I could do was to be stuck in my head.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from all these. Not from my sister and not from Alex. I am so tired of the uncertainties and the pain I have to go through.
I went into the study, I thought we would be going to the room, but he decided to go to the study.
As I closed the door. And I moved to the side of the room. I didn’t want to be so close to him, and neither did I want to be far.
He cast a glare on me, and I could tell he wasn’t as angry as I thought he would be. He folded his arms around his stomach as if one was guarding a precious stone.
“Edwina, what are you doing?” He asked, and I frowned.
I wasn’t expecting that question.
“How about, how are you doing, Edwina,” I replied. I found that his quiet, inconsiderate, and painful question shows that he only cares about my actions and not my reaction.
“I am sorry,” he muttered. Not the reaction that I was expecting, but I just lost most of my will to fight.
“What am I doing? I think I am doing what is right. It is right for me to help my sister when she has no one else to turn to. It is right to be kind to her,” I responded, and he let out an exasperated gasp.
“I think you are not being true to yourself, you are not giving her a chance to a fair trial,”
“By saying that, I have forgiven her, and it wasn’t really her fault which is true___.” I tried to say before he interrupted me.
“There is nothing remotely true about what you said on stance. Telling them that she had an unhappy marriage because she was forced to marry a man she didn’t love is not a true statement, and even if it was, does it justify cheating?”
“You don’t know what it is like to marry someone who doesn’t love you. I do.”
“Are you talking about Ben or me?” He asked, and I fell silent. Because I wasn’t sure who exactly I was talking about.
I thought Ben loved me, but up until the conversation with Sonia, I realized I was just a safe option for him, access to Sonia to get what Alex had.
“I don’t even know because you don’t love me either,” I replied spitefully.
“It’s not like you love me either, so what exactly are we saying now,” he responded, and I frowned, and I wasn’t sure how to respond.
“So you plan to let Sonia go free without any punishment and let Ben take all the blame and you sleep well at night knowing Ben is paying for cheating on you,”
“I hope you know it also hurt me that of all people he gets to cheat on me with, he cheated on me with my sister, do you know the kind of pain I have to go through because of that every day? If there is anyone that was hurt the most in all of this, it’s me. Ben wasn’t your brother, he was a Beta. And Sonia is my sister.”
I stated, and he glared at me.
“I hope you know you are invalidating the fact that I almost lost my life because of their stupid plot to keep their affair secret, I hope you know hundreds of soldiers lost their lives, and those people were my people,”
At this point, I grew cold. I was comparing pain and trauma, the very thing I preached against. And that was one of those things I didn’t want to become. I didn’t want to become someone who invalidated people’s struggles just to validate mine.
“I am not trying to invalidate your struggles but I think Sonia deserves a second chance. She deserves to be heard, she has been through a lot and no one has ever seen things from her side.”
“Do you think she will be happy that you are Luna now?” He asked me, and I scowled at him.
“I know she won’t be, but she doesn’t even have the right to rebuke me at this moment. We have all sinned against each other, and she should just take it that way. I plan to go see her now and face whatever judgment she has for me because, at this time, I am tired and exhausted.”
“Brace yourself up; Sonia doesn’t have your heart.” He said gently and reached out to me and held my hands. That was enough comfort I needed to take me to the waiting room.
***
As soon as I entered, Sonia stood up and walked towards me, I knew I should expect the worst, and at this point, I did, as she stretched out her hands and her hands landed on my face. I knew this was the pain I didn’t subscribe for. This is the pain I don’t want to remember.
“Sonia,” I mumbled as tears filled my eyes from the loud slap.
“Do you think I will thank you for what you just did? I will rather be left to rot in prison than let you take my man!” She yelled out. “I f****d your husband because he was a piece of cheating shit, and in turn, you got married to mine. You think you are the good person, the victim, but you are just as horrible as me,” she growled and yelled. Her noise attracted the guards, who then came in, and one of them glared at me.
“Should I take her away ma’am?” He asked me.
“Yea, she doesn’t deserve the mercy she just got,” I said angrily.
“I spit on your grave of mercy,” she replied as the guard took her out.
After they took her away, I fell to the ground crying. My life just got a whole lot worst and so complicated. I wished at this point I could stop caring and helping because if I had never reached out to help Sonia in the first place, then all these wouldn’t have happened. Now, she still sees me as the bad person after all this.
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 73
Edwina’s POV…
I returned home after the altercation with my sister. I walked through the door and straight to my room; as I descended the grand stairs, I took a moment to pause and admire my favorite painting, reminiscing about simpler times. I sighed and went to my room. I don’t know why I love that painting, but there has been something familiar about its feel and the way it speaks to me.
When I walked in, I noticed Alexander on the bed. He was reading a book. The light from the bedside lamp, the room’s sole source of light, gave him a dark, mysterious feeling.
He looked up from his book and smiled at me, and I returned a tired smile before walking into the closet to change my clothes, wondering if there was a better way I could have handled this situation with my sister. He closed his book and looked at me as I came out of the closet.
“From the look on your face, it appears that things did not go well with your sister,” he said to me.
He could tell things didn’t go as planned, so I sighed for what seemed like the hundredth time today and approached the bed, sitting beside him. I told him how it went and how I felt about it; to sum it all up, I felt my sister could have been more understanding, but she wasn’t.
I wish things had turned out differently. Alexander paused for what seemed like an eternity and looked at me, then asked,
“What can I do to make you feel better?” I knew what he meant by that question, and even though we weren’t as in love as should be expected, I still craved him every time.
I gave him the most seductive look I could muster with how I felt, and he asked me to come closer to him. Since his legs weren’t working, I drew closer to him, slowly moving my lips to his. His face was so close to mine that I could smell the sweet, sensual fragrance of the wine he had been drinking, and then his tongue was in my mouth, he had swiftly pulled me to him, and we locked lips.
In all honesty, I hadn’t invited this prodigy of a tongue. Turning, I had merely wished to look at his face, wishing to tease a little, hoping that the expression of aesthetic delight I might find there would correspond to what I knew was my own.
Our bodies pressed together hotly, our lips pressed together, and we breathed heavily. He fondled my breasts while expertly exploring my mouth with his tongue, and then he moved his tongue from my lips to my neck, kissing and tasting every part of me, and he nibbled on my left ear a little, sending a tingling sensation down my body.
He returned to finish what he had begun. As we pressed against each other, I could taste our shared breath and feel the thud of our combined heartbeat. He stopped kissing me, smirking, his face barely an inch away from mine. He knew I wanted more, but he didn’t continue; instead, he asked me to slowly strip my clothes off, which I did while he watched.
He then asked me to turn my back on him and slowly back up, which I did. I crept up on him until I was practically sitting on his face. I sat atop him, straddling him as he began to k**s my back, his hands wandering under my skirt, and his hot breath tickled the back of my neck.
He started rubbing circles around my lower back. His finger dipping underneath, making me squirm, as his mouth continued its journey towards the top of my spine. Suddenly he pulled away, and when I looked over my shoulder, his eyes were shining with desire, and his breathing was rapid.
It took everything within me not to take advantage of him, not only because I loved being on top but also because I knew him being crippled didn’t make it possible for him to be on top with me.
However, despite these thoughts swirling inside my head, my body did not want to wait any longer. My hands found their way under his shirt. They began caressing his back, massaging him slightly, and eventually finding their way underneath his shorts.
He m****d and arched his back, and I continued massaging him, my hand moving further and further downwards until he was completely naked beneath me. He looked up at me and asked me not to stop, and then I felt something soft press against the back of my leg.
I removed my hand from his back and lowered myself onto his face. He grabbed me, showing his alpha strength and dominance, which made my heart race. He pushed himself up to sit on his knees, and then he kissed his way up my body, stopping just above my breasts.
He licked the side of my breast, then bit it lightly, his teeth grazing it. Then he gently placed his lips on my nipple.
I gasped, unable to help myself, and soon afterward, he devoured my nipple with such ferocity and passion. As I writhed, trying to enjoy every last second of his ministrations, he continued his downward journey, taking my other nipple between his teeth.
His hands reached for my a*s, squeezing it gently, his touch almost enough to send me into o****m. I arched my back and squeezed the sheets tightly beneath my thighs, my hands clenching and unclenching as I tried to maintain a level of control over my reactions.
After what felt like hours and hours of this, I was sure he would never stop unless I allowed him to stop, but I couldn’t bear to ask him to end it. He finally released my a*s and lifted himself to look at me, giving me a gentle smile.
I smiled back, not trusting my voice to speak as his lips descended upon my collarbone. He trailed k****s along my chest and down my stomach, making his way to my navel. He stopped at the spot where his teeth had previously bitten me and whispered,
“You are beautiful.” Then he leaned forward again, this time to lick me. This time, I let out a m**n and clenched my fists in his hair, pulling slightly on it. “Your arousal is so strong…it is killing me to not do more…” he murmured before continuing his path downward, his hand brushing past my waistband to rest in my panties. He continued his slow descent until he finally rested his fingers upon my opening. I was surprised at how quickly he had progressed.
He was already so good at oral s*x, and here he was, doing it perfectly without much effort. I opened my mouth to beg him to continue, but words escaped my mouth as he slid two fingers inside me. He chuckled and moved his mouth to my other breast, sucking lightly on it.
He moved his mouth back to my belly button, placing his tongue flat upon it before pushing himself up again. He looked at me with a hint of amusement in his eyes and then proceeded to lick my belly button. My legs fell open slightly, and I held my breath, waiting for him to continue.
He looked back up at me and grinned, knowing he’d won. Then he slipped two fingers deeper into me and increased the speed of his movements. I closed my eyes and gripped the sheets underneath me as I cried out and arched my h**s upwards. I felt his finger slide out, and he immediately replaced it with another one.
“Alexander…please!” I panted out. He stopped for a moment, looking up at me and grinning, and said,
“I am sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t plan to stop.” And then he started thrusting his fingers back in and out of me faster and harder than before, making me scream louder and louder. He repeated this for a while, and soon my cries grew quiet, replaced with loud moaning noises.
He pulled his fingers out, leaving me wanting more, but he didn’t stop right away, instead grabbing my a*s with both hands and lifting me to sit upon his face. I gasped in pleasure and buried my hands in his hair, feeling the silky strands run through my fingers.
His head tilted upward, and he began kissing my thighs, licking them lightly. He wrapped his hands around my knees and lifted them, and then he positioned his lips between my legs, biting softly on my inner thigh and sliding his tongue up and down the center of my body.
My back arched as he continued his assault, my fingers gripping his head tighter and tighter, and soon he stopped, repositioning me on his h**s so that his hardness was pressing against my entrance. He looked into my eyes and whispered something quietly:
“Are you ready?” I nodded, and he began to move. His pace quickened as he hit my walls repeatedly with his long, thick shaft, causing my entire body to shake. Soon he was pounding into me hard and fast, and I could feel my insides tightening around his c**k, my muscles clenching his shaft even harder. He suddenly slowed down and pulled himself out.
He stared at me, his eyes filled with l**t, and he started thrusting inside me again, not as forcefully as before. Soon, he reached his climax, and I followed suit. We fell onto the bed, exhausted from our s****l endeavor. He rolled onto his side and pulled me onto his chest.
He tenderly wrapped his arms around me and hugged me close to his chest. I turned my head and kissed him softly, and he reciprocated the gesture.
“Do you feel better?” He asked, and I smiled at him.
“So much, thank you.”
And I wasn’t lying. S*x certainly wasn’t the answer to most things, but it did help a lot.
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 74
Alexander’s POV…
I watched her inhale and exhale; she looked extremely beautiful while sleeping. I don’t think I have ever been so engrossed in watching a person sleep. Despite being unconscious, creases of worry weren’t far from her fine lines. I had told her, but does she ever listen? It’s one thing to be warned of a looming disaster and another to know damn well the bitter truth but still do whatever it is you want. I must admit Edwina is one hell of a stubborn woman. At the same time, she has the most tender heart I have ever come across.
If I were in her position, I would either poison my sister slowly or just have her experience a miserable death. Turning away from her, I lay on my back, taking a deep breath. There are more impending situations abreast at the moment. Also, I can’t help but think of Edwina and the turmoil her heart would be in at the moment. Somehow, I felt it was my place to do something. Not just to protect her but to also assure her that she did the right thing.
Looking back at her to be sure she was deeply asleep, I moved myself up swiftly, grabbing my phone to check the time. It was barely morning, but my mind was awake and already reeling into exhaustion. Though being considerate would do, it would be nice to put out some frustration on Caleb. Letting out a snort, I dialed him.
“Get your bloody a*s out of bed. I need you to drive me to the prison.” I told him, not bothering to indulge in any courtesy. Causing a stir might make my day.
I heard him g***n and mumble some incoherent words at the same time, “remind me to always have my phone on airplane mode whenever I go to sleep.” Caleb said. I could feel him glaring hard at the phone screen.
I chuckled lightly, trying not to wake my Luna up. “Why would I ever attempt to remind you of such, when your frustration is the bane of my existence.”
“I really want to curse you right now, but its too unfortunate that you are my alpha.” Calming himself, I heard him take a long breath. “Where would you like your humble servant to take you my Lord?”
“There is nothing humble about you, Caleb. But you know what, I will be out in a few minutes; please ensure to be available.”
“Would you be able to get ready on your own?” He sounded unsure, “cause luna….”
“Don’t worry.” I cut him short, casting a glance towards Edwina’s sleeping frame. “She is long gone.”
Caleb chuckled, “must have given her a nice dosage then.”
“I would pretend not to hear that,” I muttered, hanging up, as a smile treacherously lingered on my lips. Observing Edwina for a few seconds to be sure I was not blowing out my cover by being reckless, I heaved myself into the wheelchair with enough ease. Helping myself to the closet, I grabbed a quick pair of navy blue suits and pants and went into the bathroom to get ready for the day. Moving towards the door, I locked it properly to prevent Edwina from sneaking up on me. She was so unpredictable. It amused me to see her comfortably open up her whole self to me. I would bet what she says doesn’t align with how she feels about me. All the same, I wasn’t ready to take any risk that would require my secrets to be out in the open. As the water touched my skin, the urge to let out a m**n at the sharp cold sting the water provided sent a ripple through my shaft. Staring down at myself, I was hard as wood.
“F**k.” Cursing out in a whisper, I felt myself wrapping it with my full palm. It was warm, and the thought of burying myself in Edwina’s warm p***y ran through my head. Unintentionally I had begun to stroke myself; a part of me wanted to step out of the bathroom so bad and f**k her till she lost her voice in the process of yelling out my name.
However, my ever conscious mind reminded me of the reason I had dumped the warmth of my bed and that of my wife to have a cold shower. As if on cue, my hard d**k deflated. I had so many things on my mind; too many puzzles I would love to solve.
If my intuition is right, then there is definitely more to the impending war than meets the eye. What I do not understand is why Ben detests me so much. We had been together since we could barely talk. Shaking off the thoughts once again, I got out of the bath and got dressed. Coming out of the room, I saw that Edwina was still sound asleep. Even though the urge to shake her came to mind, I left her to have her rest to the fill.
Trying to creep out of a house that had every one of its workers on full alert was just a child’s play. Just as I wheeled myself out of the room, Becca met me by the door, her head bowed.
“Good morning dear Alpha.” She mused.
“I need to go out.”
“I came to inform you that Beta Caleb is waiting.”
I nodded towards her as an affirmation to get me moving; getting to the foyer, Caleb stood still like a deer caught in the light.
I raised a stern brow at him, “hungry much? Isn’t it too early?”
Caleb gulped hard, his eyes rounding up like saucers. “Becca made me scones.” He pointed at her accusingly.
Looking back at the accused, she glared at him furiously.
“And you couldn’t resist?” I prompted, enjoying the scene. Caleb hardly crumbled under any scrutiny, but seeing him mortified was priceless.
Getting a hold of himself, Caleb blinked twice. “If you are ready to go, may I.” It was more of a statement than a question.
Feeling like I had done enough, I smirked. “Yes, please.”
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 75
Alexander’s POV…
I stared out the car window as it glided through the road, trying really hard to keep my thoughts from swimming off shore. I sighed deeply with every passing second, the car was awfully quiet, and I could tell Caleb was lost in his own thoughts.
“Mind sharing what bothers you so?” Caleb asked, breaking the silent jinx and holding the atmosphere.
I blinked rapidly like I had just been pulled out of a trance, “a whole lot.”
“You could break it down.”
“Don’t know where to start.”
“Either bottom or top, all you need to do is talk.” He insisted, gripping the wheel. His arm veins seem like they might pop at the force.
“Ben’s malicious attitude amazes me, and then again, I wonder what got into Sonia to have exposed the sizzler pack wolf yesterday. We have to affirm if all she said was true and she isn’t just trying to blackmail her sister and the rest of the pack emotionally.”
“Is that why you intend to see her, at this hour?”
Bitterness laced Caleb’s words, and I couldn’t rebuke him for it. I, too, would have been mad if someone had dragged me from my bed like that.
“I’m not heading out just for that.” I informed him.
“What then?” I noticed as his brow raised up.
“Talking to her about her sister seems necessary. I hate the way Edwina keeps beating herself up for someone who obviously doesn’t give a shit about her.”
“More reason why you shouldn’t be on this journey.” Caleb reasoned
“It’s all for Edwinas sake, I feel bad for her almost guilty like it’s my fault. If only I had just married her years ago, all of this mess could have been avoided. I guess that’s the punishment I get for refusing to heed the moon goddess.” I inhaled sharply, causing a hitch in my breath.
Caleb remained quiet, not saying anything, just as I attempted to relax back into my thoughts. He blurted, “do you not trust me?”
I stared at him in confusion. What the hell was he talking about? “Why would you say that?” I queried
He shrugged, not meeting my eye, “aside from the fact that you have been trying really hard to avoid the elephant in the room. You seem skeptical about letting me in on all your thoughts.”
I felt the urge to throw my hands up in the air like I had seen human ladies act when they were frustrated. “How else do I prove to you that I trust you?”
“Pardon me if this sounds out of line, I just want to be certain that you trust me to some extent.”
I rubbed at my forehead lightly, “you practically know everything about me, Caleb. I just have so much on my mind, and as for the elephant in the room, I know it isn’t your fault a sizzler soldier got into our midst. It’s of common knowledge that some pack members aren’t so loyal anymore.”
I could have sworn I saw him release a breath that he must have been holding for long. This man is crazy! I must say. Why would he think that I doubted him? I am just about preoccupied enough with the complex situation on hand than that.
“I’m sorry for bringing up such discussion.” He apologized.
I waved him off, “it’s all good, Caleb. What matters now is getting to the bottom of this matter. We only have little time to work things out and enable all of this to turn out in our favor.”
“Ok, Alpha.” He muttered, returning his attention to the road.
I could hear his unspoken question ever since Caleb discovered I could walk, and I told him to keep it a secret. I had still not told him what I intended to do, and I know that alone was a bother to him. However, I hadn’t thought of it much, and I had nothing to hide as it is.
The car finally parked in front of the prison, something in me moved, and I knew it had nothing to do with my wolf. I came here intending to have a full blown confrontation with Sonia, and I needed no one to tell me that it wasn’t going to be a rollercoaster ride.
Pulling out my wheelchair, Caleb helped me into it as he wheeled me into the private visitor’s room.
“Let me get her for you.” Caleb offered.
I raised my hand up to stop him, “not yet, get me the spy from yesterday.”
Caleb’s look faltered, “why didn’t you tell me you had an intention of seeing him?”
“I made the decision at the last minute just as we came in.”
Signaling to the guards, Caleb got them to bring in the spy from sizzlers pack. He looked haggard and unfed. I wonder what torture he had undergone in the process of being interrogated. Not like I felt any pity towards him, it’s just a shame that he would sacrifice himself for such awful people.
One of the guards yanked his hair forcefully as he pushed him to the ground enabling him to keep his eyes on my face.
“Why were you sent here?” I didn’t bother to beat around the bush. I felt eager for all the ruckus to end.
“I know nothing, alpha. I was only ordered by alpha bethel on behalf of Ben to come here and ensure Sonia she would get her release soon,” he spoke with so much fear.
“When do they intend to attack?” I pressed on, not letting any of my thoughts show on my face.
“I have no idea alpha, I’m only just a messenger.” He pleaded.
“Hopeless!” I spat in distaste. “Take him away!”
Caleb looked at me as the guards carried out my order, “what’s on your mind?”
“How soon can we begin the training of those prisoners?”
“As soon as you let out the order, alpha.”
“Have them all lined up and make them swear an oath of allegiance. My instincts don’t fail me, we might experience some fierce attack soon.”
“I would do just that!” Caleb assured, bowing. “What should be done to the spy?”
“Don’t kill him; he might come in handy with time,” I replied.
Finally, I felt like we were getting somewhere; calling on the spy was just a distraction. I wasn’t really ready to talk to Sonia, and I wanted to keep my head straight. Her confession at the trial had me tight. She was a woman I loved and might still feel a little something for. Hearing the things she went through made a part of me helpless. But I knew better than to fall for her theatrics. I’m only doing this for Edwina, I reminded myself. Hoping that sounds convincing enough to my conniving heart.
“You can bring Sonia to me.” I ordered.
