The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1711-It was a premeditated murder.

"This is bad, Captain Thompson."

Another subordinate darted over, breathless and drenched in sweat. "The perpetrator, Brian Wise, is holding a person hostage on the roof of the building.

"If we don't let him go, he'll jump off the building with the hostage."

The subordinate handed the phone to Ralph.

Ralph took the phone and stared anxiously at Brian yelling at the cops while holding a girl hostage in the video.

When he realized the pale-faced, teary-eyed girl was Carrie, his eyes bulged, his heart sank, and his blood ran cold.

He could not believe his eyes.

The ever-calm Ralph, even at a close encounter with armed drug traffickers, panicked and ran upstairs.

Yasmin, her eyes bloodshot, ran to Ralph with a teddy bear.

"Is the hostage Carrie? Is it Carrie?" She sobbed Ralph nodded solemnly.

"I'll go with you." Yasmin was on the verge of a breakdown.

"I know you're anxious, but your presence will make matters worse. You don't know much about the perpetrator, and you are not well-versed in negotiations. If you anger him, he might just slit Carrie's throat." Ralph eased the strain in his tone and looked deep into Yasmin's tear-filled eyes. "Trust the cops. Trust me."

"Mr. Ralph, please save Carrie by all means."

Even though Ralph was a thorn in Ryan's side, Yasmin had to put all hope in him.

"Don't worry. I will risk my life to save Carrie. I'm a cop, and it is my duty."

Ralph sternly said, "Don't alarm Ryan yet. He's a firecracker. If he finds out, he'll barge here with backup and blow up the school. If you want Carrie to be safe, do as I say."

It took Ralph five minutes to get to the roof and read through the perpetrator's background.

He had to figure out the direction of the negotiation, foresee possible scenarios, set up a plan to save the hostage, and presume the worst-case scenario all in those five minutes.

Since the beginning of his career, Ralph saved many honet from armed abductors and those strapped to explosive devices.

As Carrie was in danger, Ralph's mind was all over the place for the first time before he opened the door to the roof.

Then came a voice on the headset.

"Captain Thompson, the sniper is in position."

Snapping out of his thoughts, said in tone, "Do not fire without my order. The y is the priority." Contel.ne?

He pushed the door open and walked steadfastly toward the perpetrator.

"Don't come any closer! One more step, and I'll slit her throat."

Out for blood, Brian put the knife closer to Carrie's neck.

The girl's fair skin was tainted with a bloody slit.

Several police officers, armed with guns, stood dozens of feet away! No guns, stood dozens offgetaway! No ope, dares to go any closer.

Tears rolled down Carrie's cheek as she closed her eyes in despair.

Even as her life hung in the balance, the love of her life was the only thing she plung to.

"Ryan… I'm scared, Ryan."

"Easy there, Brian. You don't want to do that."

A familiar voice made Carrie's heart skip a beat, and sha opened her!

tearful eyes.

"Ralph… Ralph!

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1712-Carrie's voice tugged at Ralph's heartstrings.

"Save me, Ralph."

Scared stiff, Carrie wailed silently. Her teardrops broke Ralph's heart.

He wanted to comfort her, but the assurance to the hostage would trigger the perpetrator, putting the hostage in further danger.

Ralph took one long, hard look at Carrie before shifting his gaze to the man with bloodshot eyes.

"Easy there, Brian. The girl is innocent. She doesn't know about you. She doesn't know the five students. She's just an innocent bystander.

"Take me as your hostage. I'll take her place. Just let her go."

Carrie watched tearfully as Ralph inched closer to the perpetrator cautiously.

Guilt washed over her.

She blamed her foolishness.

She should have stayed in the classroom and waited for Yasmin. If she were not so clumsy, she could have escaped. But it was pointless to regret it now.

As Ralph drew close, Brian shouted angrily, "Don't come any closer, or I'll cut her throat and jump off the building with her. I know what you're planning. You want to replace the hostage and take me down. You're a cop, so I can't overpower you. I already killed two kids, and it's too late for me now. It makes no difference if I kill another."

Ralph carried a serious look, but his heart was jumping out of his chest. "I understand where you are coming from. I don't have a daughter, but if my sister is a victim of abuse, I won't put up with it. I'll avenge my family."

Brian's hand trembled, drawing a deeper cut into Carrie's neck.

"I know your daughter is a student here. The five students assaulted your daughter. They are bullies."

Carrie's teary eyes widened as her painful past flooded into her mind.

"You're an idiot! Why are you in school? Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?"

"She shouldn't be in school like the rest of us. She should be in a mental institution."

"Stay away from her. She's a psycho. Maybe her insanity is infectious. Hahaha!"

The harsh taunting haunts Carrie to this day.

Carrie closed her eyes in agony, and her trembling legs gave out.

Sensing the change in Carrie, Ralph felt for her, and his voice came out raspy. "I really hope to help you. You've taken two lives, but you can stop yourself from making more mistakes. Your daughter is still in the emergency room. You should be with her right now. She needs you more than ever. This drastic revenge is pushing you further into oblivion.

"When your daughter wakes up and learns that her father became a murderer because of her, she wouldn't just be haunted by the abuse, but she would also be shouldering heavy guilt. Don't.net that on her. She's been hurt enough. She has tried to take her life once. Are you trying to make her take her life again?” The police officers in the back looked at Ralph with respect.

Despite his age, Ralph handled the negotiations like a pro. He kept his words brief but concise.

Most importantly, his sincerity rang true.

He did not just want to save the hostage; he also put hingself in the perspegtive of the perpetrator, getting through to him via empathy.

Sure enough, Brian started to budge.

"Don't lie to me. The police are full of hot air. You won't do anything for me."

Rage overcame him at the thought

of his injured and unconscious.

daughter. "My daughter and I have contacted the school and the police more than Once to straighten out the students. But because they come from wealth and power, they walk out free. Why should I believe you now?"

Ralph grew furious.

Savrow Art Academy was not in Ralph's jurisdiction Ralph's team l was puton thé fask when the case turned criminal.

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1713-The special privilege for the rich and powerful would never happen in Ralph's station.

"I understand your pain, sir."

Carrie opened her swollen eyes and spoke determinedly, a stark contrast to the panic she felt before. "I once went through what your daughter did too." Brian was taken aback. "What did you say?"

"Please believe me. I will help your daughter through this. I will avenge her." The fear gripped Carrie, leaving her breathless between words.

"You're just a weak little girl. What can you do?"

"I am the heiress of Salvador Corporation. You can ask anyone."

Carrie's face was covered in sweat. "My brother is Justin Salvador, the president of Salvador Corporation. His wife is Bella Thompson, the heiress of KS Group.

They can help your daughter find justice." Ralph saw the fragile girl in a new light.

Other women would be scared stiff, but Carrie hung in there and tried to talk her way to safety.

"The heiress of the KS Group is your sister-in-law?"

Brian did not think the girl would lie to him. Since smartphones had become a necessity, Brian was quick to Google Carrie.

Carrie managed to persuade him.

Bella, the righteous and wealthy heiress, sought justice for ordinary girls like Linny and Rachel, even at the cost of making enemies out of the Salvadors and Iversons. Her heroic act was the talk of the town. If only Bella could help his poor daughter.

However, Bella was the daughter of the richest man in Hatchbay. Even if she was kind, she would not help every person in need.

She had no duty to him.

"Will Ms. Thompson help my daughter?"

"She will." Emotions washed over Carrie. Though she gradually V.net regained composure, her tears kept streaming down her face. "I was once a survivor of abuse too."

Ralph could not believe his ears.

"But I chose to endure and flee. My bullies have not been punished. To help myself get over it, I hope to help your daughter. So, please, sir. Don't make more mistakes. If you die here, you won't be able to see justice served."

Brian finally gave in to Carrie's persuasion.

He loosened his grip on the woman's arm and pulled the blade away from her neck.

"Ralph!"

Carrie ran to Ralph in tears.

"Don't be scared, Carrie." Ralph spread his arms apatito hold her."

Just then, the sniper on the roof of the opposite building adjuste the rifle, scople and the change in

sunlight bounced a penetrating light off the man's face.

Feeling tricked, Brian blew up.

Brian raised his blade to slice Carrie, who was defenseless. The content is of.En.novelxo.com!

"Bastards! You teamed up to lie to me. Go to hell!"

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1714-Sensing the aggression behind her, Carrie tried to run, but it was too late.

Still, Ralph would not give the perpetrator a second chance to hurt Carrie.

He pulled out a gun from his back holster while hooking Carrie in his arms. At the pull of a trigger, he fired at Brian's right arm and left thigh.

Ralph acted swiftly.

It had better be a perfect crime.

Otherwise, Ralph would turn things around.

Brian whimpered in resentment and pain, his knees sinking to the ground.

The police swarmed toward him and cuffed his hand behind his hand. At last, the man who took drastic measures for his daughter was caught.

As Brian collapsed to the ground, the sniper had his view obstructed by the safety railing and stood down.

That was the reason why Ralph fired another shot into Brian's leg.

Terrified by the booming gunshots, Carrie covered her ears in Ralph's arms and curled up in shivers. With her breathing rugged, she broke out in a cold sweat.

"Don't be scared. Everything is fine now."

Ralph did not take her away there and then. Instead, he sat on the cement platform and held Carrie tight. He patiently and tenderly consoled her. "Haven't you seen fireworks? That noise was fireworks I unleashed to congratulate you on your survival. Do you feel better now?"

Burying her tearful face in his clothes, Carrie sobbed.

Ralph sighed heart-wrenchingly and gripped her shoulders tighter.

"I thought I was going to die." It took a while before Carrie's muffled voice rang out.

"You won't. You're a smart and brave girl. You're better than me."

Carrie's earlier interaction with the perpetrator stirred Ralph's feelings. With a smile, he drew close to her face. "Besides, I won't let anything happen to you on my watch. I won't let down my uniform, Bella, or Justin."

Most importantly, Ralph did not want to let Carrie down.

However, Ralph kept that thought to himself.

"I wasn't trying to distract the man. I want to help him." Carrie's lips quivered.

"Carrie." Ralph turned somber. "You said you were a survivor of abuse. Is that true?"

Carrie's eyes widened as she shivered in the man's arms.

"No, I wasn't abused. I was just saying. I wasn't bullied."

Ralph had a lot of questions, but the emotional strain was more than Carrie could take. Hence, he said nothing.

He clenched his fists.

Ralph did not think Ryan did a good job of protecting Carrie.

Help for her autism was a separate matter. Carrie clearly experienced trauma, and Ryan did not seem to notice despite living with her. Ryan should just stick to what he did best, which was being a player.

To prevent a media frenzy, Ralph carried Carrie out of the school building with clothes over her head.

She was shielded from the media and brought into the ambulance right away.

The medical personnel in the ambulance patched the wound on Carrie's neck. For precaution's sake, Carrie was taken to the hospital for a physical examination.

Carrie relaxed and quickly fell asleep.

Sitting on the opposite sides of Carrie, Ralph met the gaze of Yasmin, whose face was stained with tears. Tension was thick in the air.

"You can contact Ryan to see Carrie in the hospital."

"I've called Mr. Hoffman." Yasmin held Carrie's hand while holding the teddy bear.

"Do you need me to explain the situation to him?" Ralph asked out of decency.

He had witnessed how much Ryan cared for Carrie. Now that Carrie was bodyguard so client a min. her accountable. Ryan could be nasty when he was angry.

"That won't be necessary. Your involvement would put me in a tougher spot and make Mr. Hoffman angrier."

Yasmin pursed her discolored lips and said grimly, "I'm grateful that you saved Carrie, Mr. Ralph, but here's a word of advice.

"If Ryan wishes to marry Carrie and Carrie accepts, l'll glye my alessing.

However he heeds to take good care of her and make her happy."

Ralph grinned offhandedly, and the smile sent chills down Kasminism sping. "Otherwise, I can't say that your concern won't happen."

"Ms. Carrie is Mr. Hoffman's fiancee.

She's the future wife of the Hoffman Group's CEO. They are in love, no one can tear them apart stand by and watch someone come in between them."

Ralph narrowed his eyes and ran his tongue over his teeth.

"A cop fights for justice. Surely, you won't throw away your pride and steal another man's woman," Yasmin said harshly.

Yasmin kept a clear head in the face of Ryan's potential rival.

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1715-Yasmin clenched her fists until her knuckles popped.

"Mr. Hoffman is good friends with Mr. Salvador, and Mr. Salvador is with Ms.

Thompson. Do you think it's appropriate of you to steal Mr. Hoffman's girlfriend?

You're putting Mr. Salvador in a tough spot and getting on Ms. Thompson's nerves."

"Did I say I'm going to steal Carrie away? You and your boss are the ones imagining things."

With downcast eyes, Ralph stared tenderly at Carrie's sleeping face. "But if you won't stop talking about it, you might just push me to fight for her. What did my old man tell me again? I think it was to at least try even if there is an obstacle."

"Captain Thompson, remember your place!" Anxious, Yasmin jolted to her feet.

Forgetting that she was in a vehicle, she bumped her head on the roof of the ambulance. Furrowing her brows, she held her aching head and sat back down.

"Ms. Yasmin, don't use my job on me." Ralph smirked. "One of my pet peeves is being threatened."

Yasmin felt a gut punch.

As she interacted with Ralph, her panic escalated.

Her woman's intuition alerted her to the fact that if Ralph fancied Carrie, he would become Ryan's competition.

Ralph would become Ryan's strongest rival.

When Carrie was transported into the room for treatment, Ryan darted over grimly.

The hallway was cramped as Ryan entered with his employees in tow.

He did not look like he was there to visit his wife. He appeared to be seeking a fight.

Since stepping foot into the hospital, Ryan has had a long face and was unapproachable. He was on a private jet with Logan to attend a business meeting in the neighboring city.

While on the way, he read the news about an incident at Savrow Art Academy.

For some reason, he felt his stomach turning, so he called Yasmin right away.

His calls went unanswered.

Unsure whether Carrie was safe, Ryan ordered the jet to turn back to Savrow despite Logan's protests. He would rather sit out the important meeting. Livid, Logan nearly passed out from the huffing and puffing at an altitude of 30,000 feet.

"Mr. Hoffman."

Without red-rimmed eyes, Ryan approached aggressively. Yasmin stood up and nodded as her sweat hit the floor.

"Why did you tell me?" Ryan hissed through clenched teeth.

"Things were critical. I was afraid-"

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Ryan's eyes were shot. His angry roar echoed through the hallway. The employees of the Hoffman Group kept their heads down in silence.

Yasmin bit her discolored lip and hung her head low as the guilt weighed down on her.

"You're fired, Yasmin."

Ryan gave her the side eye, the anger and heartbreak eating him up inside. From now on, you shoyld go home and reflect on your behavior. I Will Strengthen the security around Carrie. I don't need you anymore."

A drop of sweat slipped into Yasmin's eyes, merging with her tears.

She could not bear the thought of separating from Carrie when they had spent so much time together. It Was Yasmin's negligence, and she had no excuse for it.

"This has nothing to do with Ms. Yasmin. It was the decision of the police that she was not to contact you."

Ralph emerged from the corner of "Did the instruction come from the police or you?" Ryan's knuckles went white

dangerous situation. Ms. Yasmin wanted to get in touch with you, but we are the professionals. We didn't want the situation to get any worse than it already was. Please don't take out your anger on her.".

His husky voice was tinged with dangerous undertones.

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1716-During his car ride, Ryan read the live news online and saw Ralph carrying a girl out of the school building.

Even though the girl's face was covered, he recognized the body frame to be Carrie's.

Ryan knew that Ralph was interested in Carrie, so he thought that Ralph had an ulterior motive to carry Carrie in his arms.

Carrie was Ryan's life and everything.

He could not put up with anybody getting close to her.

"I represent the cops. Is there a difference?" Ralph smirked composedly.

Ralph stood up against the Hoffman Group's employees on his own. Still, he persevered in the face of adversity.

Gritting his teeth, Ryan inched closer to Ralph. "Carrie is the love of my life.

How could you keep this from me when her life hung in the balance? I couldn't be there for her. What was your intention? Must I rip off your façade for you to be real with me?"

"Are you silly or naïve, Ryan? Even if you have never been held hostage, you've watched movies with the same theme."

Ralph slipped his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket and scoffed with narrowed eyes. "So what if you were there? What could you have done?

"You would order your men to surround the perpetrator and tell him that the hostage was your woman. You'll probably threaten to bankrupt him for laying a finger on Carrie."

Ryan saw red. "Ralph!"

The Thompsons were sharp-tongued.

"It's not a matter of trust that I didn't inform you, Ryan. I need to eliminate all risks to save the hostage. I didn't keep things from you because Carrie is your girlfriend. I would do the same to anyone else in that position.

"I've encountered the meanest, vilest criminals in my career on the force. They would die when pushed to the edge. The same goes for the man who held Carrie hostage. It was a dangerous mission to save Carrie."

Ryan was too angry to listen to reason. "Are you trying to get me to thank you?” "No need for that. I live to serve the people."

Ralph waved his arm. "I don't want to argue with you. I'm tired. You must be tired, too. Save your energy to take care of Carrie. And one more thing. Ms.

Yasmin was loyal to you, rain or shine. She had it tough. You can blame the whole thing on me, but keep her out of it."

Standing in a corner with slumped shoulders, Yasmin felt a lump in her throat.

She had been with Ryan for more than a decade. She took all the hardships that came her way. Many times, she even forgot she was a woman.

Yet now, she has never felt so hurt before.

However, she quickly suppressed her emotions. Hurt was not the feeling she should have while working for Ryan.

Ralph walked straight ahead.

"Mr. Ralph thought you'd at least compete fair and square. Don't use your looks and your job as excuses to get elose to Carrie. That's cheap." Ryan's eyes were piercingly malicious.

If Ralph was not Bella's brother, Ryan would have pulled a punch to Ralph's face.

Ryan blamed himself not for being for when she was hurt, words only added salt his swnomet injury.

"Ha. I used to think that you're doing Justin a favor by staying friends with him,"

Ralph stopped, his tone sarcastic.

"Now it looks like Justinis just "l putting lib With You."

He hummed a tune and walked off.

The Hoffman Group's employees kept quiet, shocked by Ralph's attitude.

A storm brewed within Ryan's bloodshot eyes.

The door to the emergency room swung open.

Ryan looked back in shock.

Carrie stood there, her frame fragile.

She stared at Ryan with furrowed brows, and her resentful gaze burned Ryan,

"Ryan, why must you say that to Ralph? He saved my life."

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1717-"Carrie!"

Ryan's grimacing eyes lit up as he eagerly made his way to Carrie. He pulled her into his arms, his voice trembling in lingering fear. "I'm sorry. It's my fault that I didn't get there in time.

"I'm sorry for the hurt and pain you went through. I could've done a better job protecting you. Just hit me. Take your anger out on me."

Everybody was shocked.

Ryan, the Grim Reaper in the business, was lovestruck.

Carrie had the magic powers to put Ryan in his place. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

"Ryan, why did you say that about Ralph? Why?"

Due to her autism, Carrie was stubbornly persistent on certain matters. "Why did you say that about Ralph? If it wasn't for Ralph, I would've been dead. Ralph saved my life. Why did you have to be mean? Why?"

Why?

The countless whys would have annoyed anyone else.

However, Ryan held her tight and whimpered tenderly in her ear. "You must have been afraid, Carrie. Are you alright? I'm sorry for not protecting you."

"Ralph didn't do anything wrong. He risked his life to save mine. Don't say that about him, alright?" Carrie would not let go of the matter until she got through to Ryan. Otherwise, she would not be able to focus on anything else.

Yasmin felt for Ryan.

Carrie's condition finally stabilized, but the accident set her progress back significantly.

As Carrie would not let up, Ryan did not want to put more emotional strain on her. He swallowed his pride and pleaded hoarsely, "Then promise me, babe.

Don't look at other men. Just look at me, Carrie. I'm the only man for you."

Ralph left the hospital and hurried back to the station.

After sorting out the paperwork, Ralph sent his people to retrieve the report filed by Brian and his daughter. The file included information on the bullies and their statements.

There was not much to the case.

Ralph could not settle down once he reviewed the file.

Bella's call then came in.

"Bella." He paced his breathing.

"How are you doing, Ralph? Are you okay?"

Bella's anxious voice boomed during the call. "We saw the news about Savrow Art Academy and that you were heading a team there. Aunt Mila saw the news, and you didn't pick up her calls. Since Justin and are here, she asked us to pay you a visit."

"The perpetrator was arrested. I'm fine."

"I don't believe you. Come out and show us. Bella was persistent. "We are in front of the station. Come out to prove that you are safe and sound, or we won't know what to say to Aunt Mila."

Ralph walked out of the police station and saw the Rolls Royce parked across the road.

Awkward, Ralph glanced around and slipped into the car while no one was looking.

"Don't drive a fancy car to see me."

Ralph whined the moment he got into the car. "Some may know you're my family, but others would think I'm a dirty cop who takes bribes fro the rich."

Justin smirked at Ralph's wild imagination.

"Thank goodness you're okay, Ralph."

Bella raised Ralph's arms and told Justin to take multiple photos from different angles.

"Send the photos to Aunt Mila, Justin.” "Okay." Justin looked down on his phone and sent the photos through WhatsApp.

"Hey, hey. That's a bit excessive." Ralph clicked his tongue. "Should take e off my pants, so you photos for my mom?"

Justin kept a stoic face. "We're all men. I don't mind."

Ralph was speechless. Bella and Justin were made for each other.

"We saw you carrying a girl out, Ralph. Was she a victim? Is shem okay? " Bella a kind soul, asked out of concern.

Ralph pursed his lips in silence for a moment before deciding to tell the truth.

"The girl is Carrie."

The couple went white. "Who? Carrie? Our Carrie?"

"Yes."

"Oh, my God." Bella covered her mouth in shock.

"Where is Carrie now? How is she?" Flustered, Justin turned pale.

"Don't worry. Carrie is fine. She sustained minor injuries and shock."

Ralph looked at the time and spoke in a flat tone, "Ryan must be taking her home now." Justin could not shake off the concern, "BeWaland Fwill head tô Ryan's to check on Carrie." As his mind flew back to Carrie's conversation with Brian, Ralph pulled a grim look. "Bella, Justin, I have a request. I'm not in a position to intervene, but can you help me?"

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1718-Since Ralph looked solemn, Bella and Justin took his request seriously.

"Do tell, Ralph."

"Both of you are well known for your do-good mission." Ralph made a jealous face.

Justin turned to the love of his life and pinched the nape of her neck for a massage. "I'm not. I'm just supporting Bella. Bella is the best. She's smart and kind."

"Ralph was mocking us, but you were humble and put the flattery on me. The weight of responsibility might just kill me."

Bella narrowed her eyes and elbowed Ralph in the ribs.

"I wasn't mocking you. I'm serious." Ralph adopted a grim countenance. "The perpetrator who held Carrie hostage killed two school bullies."

Justin grimaced.

Bella's eyes reflected iciness.

The couple had experienced abuse to some extent in their childhood, so they were against bullying more than anyone else.

"The perpetrator has a daughter who endured abuse from these five bullies. The bullies even took indecent photos of her and made the girl their slave, or they would post the photos on the school's website. "The girl and her father filed a report with the station more than once, but the case was closed apparently due to a lack of evidence. "They come from money and power?"

Justin's piercing gaze spoke of hostility. "Give me their names. I want to see how much power and money they hold."

Bella teared up. "How is the girl now?"

"She's still unconscious in surgery."

Ralph sighed frustratedly and clenched his fists. "I read the file and saw the girl's medical records. There was enough proof to charge the bullies, and they are adults now. If we go by normal procedure…" "If you could go by normal procedure, you wouldn't be asking for our help." Bella saw through him.

Ralph swallowed hard, his voice tel.

raspy. "Murderers should pay for their crimes sympathize with the father, but I don't agree with his revenge. He should face legal punishment. But his daughter is innocent. The perpetrators should be held responsible and pay the price for their misfortune.

"That was the only thing her father could do to avenge her daughter at the time,"

Justin murmured.

"You must have a lot of cases like this, Ralph."

Bella asked curiously, "Why do you care so much about this particular case? Do you know her?"

Ralph recalled Carrie curling up in his arms, her lashes and nose tip wet with tears. His heartwent oufto the flusteredly et adorable girl. "The incident only started and escalated from the bullying. I can't stand by and do nothing.

"The other reason is because Carrie asked me to seek justice for the girl."

The couple was taken aback at the mention of Carrie.

"Everything was happening quickly, and Carrie got to safety because she convinced the perpetrator that she would be with the girl through it all and would help them seek justice. I don't want to let Carrie down."

Finding his remark inappropriate, Ralph added, "Carrie is kind and innocent. I hope shekstays that way. I hopellies do not exist in her world."

Bella stared straight at Ralph, whose eyes reflected unspoken emotions.

"If that's what Carrie wants, I will make it happen."

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1719-Justin took Ralph's word for it and felt bad. "I'm a bad brother.

"I didn't carry out my duties as a brother, growing up. I was blind to her suffering at home. It took me years to realize what was going on, and Bella had to tell me about it. I'm the worst." "Don't be hard on yourself. You're a great brother, and I can prove it."

Bella sank into Justin's arms and kissed him on the neck. "Don't forget that Carrie wouldn't have a boyfriend who loves her dearly if it wasn't for you. That's enough to score you brownie points for a lifetime." Justin felt better, and the love showed in his eyes. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her in for a peck.

A hint of dejection slipped past Ralph's expression as he opened the car door and said, "I'll send you the file later. You are free to handle the case as you see fit, so long as you don't break the law."

Worried about Carrie, Justin and Bella said goodbye to Ralph and headed to Ryan's residence.

However, they did not get to see Carrie, as Ryan did not let the couple in.

"Don't worry, Justin, Bella. Carrie is fine. She had a scare. Yasmin has already put her to bed." Ryan's eyes were glazed and red-rimmed.

Apart from Carrie's well-being, Ryan did not seem all right.

He must have gotten quite a scare too.

Justin was going to insist on checking on Carrie, but Bella grabbed his arm and gave him a look.

Taking the hint, Justin said, "Is Carrie really alright?"

"She's fine."

"Let Carrie get some rest. She'll herself together in two days. We can visit belongs to r then." Conten Sw Bella held Justin's arm and excused herself.

"Bella." Ryan stopped her.

"What's the matter?"

Ryan pressed his dry, discolored lips together. After much hesitation, he decided against talking about Ralph.

"HoW is Chairman Thompson? Is he better?"

"He's doing a lot better. Thank you for asking, Mr. Hoffman."

Bella curled her lips and walked away, snuggled in Justin's arms.

Ryan stared at their backs, struggling in a whirlwind of emotions and self-doubt.

However, Ryan wondered if Carrie's love was genuine pr merelyaO 11 love was genuine or merelyao M responsel to his affection.

He was envious of Justin's and Bella's undying love for each other.

Ryan loved Carrie deeply, and Carrie loved him too.

As veins popped out of his hand on the door frame, Ryan daredinot go down that rabbit hole.

What if Ralph was the first to enter her life instead?

The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 1720-Ryan returned to the living room dejected. After putting Carrie to bed, Yasmin descended the stairs.

As Ryan looked up, their gazes met, and Yasmin put her head down in fright.

"Any lower, and your head will hit the floor. Are you an ostrich?"

With his brows furrowing in annoyance, Ryan went to the sofa to sit down. He took out a cigarette to hold between his lips, only to remember that Carrie did not like the smell of tobacco. In the end, he did not light the cigarette.

Yasmin kept her head down throughout.

The usually callous and unapproachable woman was now timid with guilt.

"Come here."

Yasmin took a few steps to get to Ryan, but the silence felt like a lifetime.

"Is Carrie asleep?" Ryan's voice was husky.

"She's asleep."

Yasmin hung her head low, her voice trembling. "I'll pack my things and leave right away. I won't get in your way."

"You can stay." Ryan's icy words granted Yasmin a pardon.

"B-But you said…"

"You are close with Carrie. I know she won't have any appetite if she loses you."

Ryan removed the cigarette from his lips and crushed it in his grasp. At the end of the day, he could not be cruel to the woman who was devoted to him. "You should stay and take care of Carrie. Even though you're clumsy with laundry and cooking, I won't feel any better leaving Carrie's care to someone else. This cannot happen again, or I won't just fire you. I'll kill you."

The last sentence was a joke.

As remorse washed over Yasmin, she shied away from his gaze and fought back the tears.

"I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again."

Late at night, Ryan, in matching pajamas with Carrie, reviewed files on the sofa under the soft ceiling light.

He was not a workaholic like Justin. However, he was too distraught to sleep, and he needed some distraction.

"Ugh… No! Don't hit me! Don't hit me!"

Suddenly, Carrie kicked the duvet away in her sleep and wrangled around as if she were pinned down. She let out a frantic scream. "I'm a dummy! I'm an idiot!

Just don't hit me!" "Carrie!"

Ryan got up and ran to the bed. He scooped her up by the waist and pulled her into his arms. "Don't be scared. I'm here. Don't be scared." "Don't hit me!

Please, don't."

He held her tight, his palm running down her drenched back. "Who hit you? Tell me, Carrie. Who hit you?"

Carrie abruptly opened her eyes and gasped for air as sweat soaked her body.

"Who picked on you, Carrie? Tell me who hit you."

Ryan's eyes turned red, and his tone was stubborn and ruthless. "I'll kill whoever touches you."

He firmly believed that dreams came from thoughts during the day.

Something must have happened for Carrie to have a nightmare.

However, Ryan did a good job of shielding Carrie from harm. Yasmin stuck close to Carrie at school, so no one would have gotten close to her.

"N-No one."

Carrie put her arms around the man's waist and shook her head with closed eyes. "I guess it was quite a fright this afternoon, so I had a nightmare.

"No one picked on me."

Her horrifying memories were worse than a nightmare. All she wanted to do was forget about the past and pretend like nothing ever happened. Besides, her abuser was Ryan's sister.

Blood was thicker than water, and she did not want to put her beloved in a difficult spot.

"Really? Was it really a nightmare, Carrie?" Ryan kissed her forehead. His lips were cold from the panic.

"Yeah… It was just a dream."

Ryan could never get enough of Carrie, who was coy and fragile in bed.

Her slender waist arched high, curving gracefully like a delicate crescent moon.

The moon outside the window paled in comparison.

Ryan's stunt of turning the jet around cost him an important meeting.

Hence, he got up early in the morning to see Logan and apologize.

Carrie was not the type to sleep in, so she woke up when he did. She helped Ryan into a suit and fixed his tie, acting more like a devoted wife.

Ryan read the financial articles on the iPad with his legs crossed on the sofa while Carrie had a shower in the bathroom.

Yasmin entered with a tray of breakfast.

"Yasmin."

Ryan lowered his gaze and spoke with a languid raspiness. "The sheets are stained. Change them."
