Ch. 6..10: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 6-10

Chapter 6: Chapter 6 – His long-awaited girlfriend.

Devin frowned a little but did not discontinue his action. Sabrina munched down before she glanced a Daniel Root, Robin's best friend who had a woman beside him as usual. He and Robin had a lot in common, the most basic being their attractive look and lure to women. Before she spoke, Lizzy said from behind,

"Sorry I took a long time but you did not bother to check on me."

She had a little frown on her face, directing her discontentment to Devin who was remorseful. But seeing the man who had asked Sabrina a question but was now looking intently at Lizzy as if he did not have a woman beside him, Devin smirked.

"Why should I worry? My long-awaited girlfriend returned after divorcing her unfilial husband."

His gaze remained on Daniel the whole time whiles he spoke, not knowing who he was but ensuring that he got the message. Daniel grimaced whiles Lizzy looked confused but seeing how Sabrina was just munching calmly, she bit back her questions for later.

"Sabrina, what is he saying? Who is he and where is Robin?" Daniel asked again, not believing what Devin had told him. He had last heard from Robin yesterday morning and had not been informed about this little news. Sabrina was a submissive housewife so this was all confusing, or a misunderstanding. Sabrina smiled at Devin a little flirtatiously before saying to Daniel,

"It's just as he said. We are celebrating my divorce. The papers were signed a few hours ago." She paused, seeing how Daniel raised his brows at the news. "You look surprised. Isn't Robin your best friend? Why don't you call and ask him?" She asked distantly, whiles picking Devin's cutlery and feeding him too.

Daniel's expression contoured and he wanted to say more when Devin accepted the food, munched, and continued to feed Sabrina, who also kept welcoming the food and nodding her head. Daniel was shocked, never expecting a woman like Sabrina to have had a man by her side who was not Robin. He wanted to say more when the lady beside him spoke.

"Babe, let's go. I said I was hungry."

Daniel's gaze fell on Lizzy as he felt his tongue tied. His cheek also pinked a little. Strange. He never run out of what to say and did the playboy just blush? Instinctively, he chose to address the woman beside him.

"Don't call me that. We just met, don't forget."

The lady frowned and asked, "we just met? Then what about last night?"

Sabrina smiled. She understood what was going on due to how Daniel kept looking at Lizzy, and said with dismay, "You and Robin are the same. It's okay that he cheats but you are surprised to see me with a man who loves and cherishes me right?"

Daniel opened his mouth but clamped it shut. It was natural for a man to have multiple partners but strange for a woman to have same. He stared at Lizzy again, unable to refuse or accept what Sabrina said. Sighing, he retorted,

"Whatever! It's between you and Robin."

After that, he began to walk away and out of the luxury restaurant with the woman he brought tailing behind him. 'God, that girl is so pretty and why did she take my breath away so much? I have to see her again but I did not take her contact,' Daniel thought. He also could not go back to take the contact he wanted and kept walking, irritated when the woman caught up to him.

At the table, Sabrina stared at Lizzy, smiled and said, "Congratulations Liz, he's crushing on you." Lizzy who had begun eating her food choked on it. She had not even noticed it because men were not a priority for her.

"It's normal for bad boys to crush on every woman who meets their eyes," Devin sneered, before recalling how he had not checked on Lizzy and added, "Sorry for not checking on you. I got carried away." Lizzy was still confused about the whole thing.

"I don't know what you two are talking about but why did you say that you were her boyfriend?"

"Because I have a feeling that he knows Robin. He could pass the information," Devin smirked devilishly, recalling how Robin looked earlier when he was leaving with Sabrina. He would make sure that Robin knew what he lost. His sisters were precious and though Sabrina slipped through his fingers because of their father, he was not going to let it happen again.

"That's his best friend," Sabrina revealed, making Devin congratulate himself at their little act. He only thought the person knew Robin but it was even better that they were best friends who shared the same habits.

"No wonder they both have no limit when it comes to women."

"Now he has eyes on Lizzy," Sabrina stared at her kid sister worriedly but she only brushed Sabrina's worry aside.

"Oh, then he's gonna be blinded real soon but hey, dad wants to see me. I think he's through with his meeting. I didn't tell him yet that you arrived so we could surprise him."

Hearing about her dad, a lot of emotions welled up in Sabrina once again. "I can't wait to see him."

"Then let's finish up because no one is wasting this food," Devin warned and they laughed. In less than an hour, the three siblings were standing in front of Mister Cobby James, Sabrina and Lizzy's biological father's office. Sabrina was very nervous. Lizzy knocked on the door and opened it after hearing her father's voice.

"Dad, sorry I'm late," Lizzy apologized but intentionally blocked Sabrina's view. Her father did not notice since his head was buried in something on his computer.

"It's alright, did your brother stop by today?"

"Yes," Devin said. Cobby lifted his head and smiled upon hearing the familiar voice. He already accepted Devin before getting married to his mother and has always treated him like a first son. Even though Devin was the CEO of the company he inherited from his late biological father, he always ensured to visit and have lunch with his dad or sister. The look on Cobby's face when his eyes met that of Sabrina was priceless.

"Sabrina?" He was already rising to his feet from the excitement. Sabrina smiled and began to walk towards her father, meeting him halfway. A meter away, she halted and they stood facing each other. It was as if the world had come to a standstill when Cobby saw his daughter again.

"Sabrina," Cobby said again before pulling her into his arms. She felt the warm tears that began to slip through the back of her dress but it was the same with Cobby. Warm tears wet his suit as well.

"Thanks for making time to visit after all these years," her father said in a small voice, choking on his tears. During their last phone conversation over two years ago, Sabrina had been upset and even yelled at him. She told him to forget about her, all because he told her to come back.

"I'm sorry dad. I'm very sorry," she cried upon recalling all the mean things she said to her father because of how she loved Robin and hoped that he would change and love her one day.

"No, it's not your fault. You love him and I understand. I'm happy you came to visit," her father comforted and assured her that it was alright but Sabrina could not stop crying. She pulled away and wiped her tears with the back of her hands.

"We divorced a few hours ago."

The revelation resulted in a shocking silence for Cobby before he asked, "Why? What did you do? Why did he divorce you?" Cobby was worried for his daughter, knowing how much she loved Robin. There was no way Sabrina would leave Robin at her own will. Sabrina could not allow her father to give reverence to Robin, thereby letting out everything,

"He brought another woman home so I asked for a divorce. He gave it because the woman is pregnant for him. Something he never got from me."

Cobby should have been happy about the turnout of events but he wasn't. It still looked as if Sabrina lost everything she ever worked hard for. "Your love should have been enough for him."

Sabrina was shedding more tears at his soft comforting words. She revealed through sobs, "But it wasn't. Last night, I thought things would improve between us because the pregnancy test, I took showed two lines but he returned with another woman. I could not take it."

"You are pregnant?"

Devin had a disappointed look on his face but most importantly, he was furious, recounting that Sabrina had not touched any wine when he urged her. He felt his heart shatter for the plans he had for her. His father noticed something off and asked Devin,

"It's a child she is carrying. Should we not be happy? Or is there a problem?"

Chapter 7: Chapter 7 – First meeting after divorce

Devin could not erase the sunken look on his face. Yes, the pregnancy was a big problem, an obstacle to his plans. Everything would be ruined but the plan was only marked out in his head.

"No, I'm just surprised. Does Robin know about it?" He asked Sabrina. She could tell that something was not right but only attributed it to the shock like he had said earlier.

"He already has a child growing in another woman's belly and I won't let my child go through the pain of fighting for a place in his father's life." Sabrina spoke softly but there was pain in her eyes.

"It's good you haven't told him. Most people don't know me as your brother and we don't share the same surname. Should need be, don't forget to use it to your advantage," Devin encouraged her, determination coating his every word. Sabrina was happy that he was not upset with her like she thought earlier.

"Thank you."

"I will leave now but I will come and take you to the hospital tomorrow for a proper check," Devin said without his usual smirk. Something was eating him up and he hoped that miraculously, the test would turn out negative.

"I was about to say that too. We don't know for sure," Cobby said. Lizzy knew that Sabrina's days before going into labor were numbered from today. A miracle happened in her life today and she had to take advantage of it.

"Pregnant women still work so since you are back, I will hand over affairs of the company to you," Lizzy said to Sabrina who looked surprised. It was not in her expectation to be given a part to play in the family business after all she did.

"Lizzy, let your sister rest. She has not worked all her life," Cobby smiled and spoke. Secretly, he was happy.

"It doesn't matter. She is smart and I want to assist Devin. You know how I have always wanted to be a fashion designer," Lizzy smiled and spoke. It was the reason why she loved to be around Devin. The guy was the king of fashion, thanks to his father's fashion house. Devin was bemused and said,

"In that case, I will have to test your abilities. I am giving you 500k to change Sabrina's wardrobe. If you get it right, then you'll be my assistant."

Lizzy was already feeling excited and the atmosphere warmed again. Her dream was so close, she could touch it. "When do I start?"

"Now," Devin said to her shock, she began to feel that he was pulling her legs but seeing the dress Sabrina wore, she also had to agree that her elder sister indeed needed a change of wardrobe. That dress was new but out of the fashion and not under any designer name. But there was one problem.

"And who hands over the companies affairs?"

"That is still up to you Lizzy. I will increase the budget 800k. You should keep some of her clothes in my penthouse too, just in case you two come for sleep overs. You know I don't like it when women wear men's clothes."

Lizzy gasped for breath like she was drowning in the workload. "It seems there will be no rest for me. I will start with training big sis and then, the second part later."

"You only have three days darling," Devin smirked before turning around to leave when Lizzy caught him by the arm.

"Today is Thursday and I have a Saturday so that's not bad. I can work on the designs in between works and do the purchasing on Saturday. Here, let me have your black card."

Devin brought out his wallet from the pocket of his Blazer. He removed one of his black cards and gave it to her. "Please remember to return it," he warned her. Lizzy beamed. She was going to spend more than 800k for real.

Hours later, Lizzy was already rounding up on taking Sabrina through the company affairs. "The processing company is in Alabama but you don't have to make that trip. We already have a manager there and he will send you regular reports. You have to make sure that it tallies with every piece of jewelry we receive before it goes to the showroom," Lizzy explained before adding,

"We should call it a day. It's five minutes to closing time. I will introduce you to all departmental heads tomorrow so let me call the driver to come and get us."

"I'm already here," Devin said from the entrance when the door pushed open. Both women were surprised to see him again since it was barely five hours before he left.

"Devin, you came back?" Sabrina probed. She felt like Devin was giving less attention to his job because of her.

"Well, since I have to take you to the hospital in the morning, I figured you should spend your first night of freedom at my house. I already picked a few clothes for you," he smiled and said, looking better than before. Lizzy was somewhat happy with the arrangement. Sabrina was picking things faster than she imagined so things were moving in her favor.

"Great, I will leave with the driver then," Lizzy said and stood up. Before she reached the door, Devin blocked her way and stared at her curiously,

"You seem to be in a hurry. Where are you going?"

"Night window shopping for what you asked me to do. I can't design everything so I might as well get the best in town. Not from your clothing line," Lizzy shrugged.

"Don't stay up too late, Lizzy," Devin moved out of the way and spoke.

"You don't have to worry. I am not going alone," Lizzy reminded him.

"I know but precautions should still be taken," Devin said, looking disturbed. He has always been there for his sisters and wanted to do so all the time.

"Alright. I will see you tomorrow, Brina," Lizzy said and left.

"Let's go," Devin said, leading Sabrina away. Their father left an hour ago. When they got to Devin's penthouse, he said, "relax. I will make you dinner but that is your room," he pointed to the door next to his. "The one after is for Lizzy," he explained.

He had rooms in his penthouse for all his sisters so they could visit at any time they wanted. He was not sure he would see Sabrina anytime soon but still kept one for her. Sabrina's eyes welled up instantly. For the past three years, she was busy taking care of Robin but he never for once took care of her. What an Irony.

"Why are you crying?" Devin was disturbed when he came out of the kitchen and saw Sabrina curled up on the couch in front of the tv. She had showered and changed. The TV was also on but he could tell that she was not watching. Just crying. "Please don't tell me you are missing the jerk?" Devin asked with a puckered brow.

"I'm just happy to be back," Sabrina forced a smile and spoke.

"Good, now let's eat and don't forget you are now a working woman," he brought the food to her on the couch.

Sabrina ogled at the deliciously looking dish on the tray. She began to eat as soon as she had the tray in her hands, moaning in between. They both learnt greatly from their mother in terms of cooking, except Lizzy who was too young by then. She learnt from Sabrina.

"Yeah, everything is working so fast. Can you take me somewhere before the hospital tomorrow? I will be brief, I promise," Sabrina said after emptying the plate. Devin took the plate and began to walk towards the kitchen whiles he asked,

"Where?"

"To Robin's grandmother. I have to inform her."

"The more reason why we should sleep early," Robin advised and she agreed.

The next day, Sabrina spent almost an hour with Ceceila, Robin's grandmother before she went back to the car. "I'm sorry I took longer. The old woman was so miserable upon hearing the news. I gave her my new number."

"Good. Here's the thing, there is a very important client waiting for me so I will drop you at the doctor's office, rush to the office and come back to get you. The doctor is my friend so when you are done, she will give you a place to wait till I get back," Devin revealed while taking in her appearance. She rocked the dress he picked for her and her makeup, though simple, enhanced her beauty greatly.

"No problem," Sabrina smiled and spoke. Devin dropped her as said and went to the office.

A few minutes later, at the Doctor's office.

"Congratulations, Misses..."

"Miss. Miss James," Sabrina filled in for the confused doctor.

"Sorry, I forgot. Congratulations! Miss James, you are four weeks pregnant!"

Sabrina was not surprised since she already knew. "Thank you and my ex-husband shouldn't know about this," Sabrina said calmly. The doctor nodded her head.

"Devin has informed me about everything."

"Thank you," Sabrina smiled and spoke.

After the remaining checks were done with the confirmation that Sabrina was fine and her baby growing well, she was asked to return in a month. Sabrina walked out of the doctor's office since Devin had said he was on his way. She planned to wait for him at the hospital car park when someone pulled and held her by the arm, a little violently.

"What are you doing here, Sabrina?"

Chapter 8: Chapter 8 – Tell me, are you pregnant?

Earlier on, Robin was sitting in the doctor’s office with Zayla. This was their first antenatal check and Robin was quite excited about it.

"Please lay on the bed, Miss Chance. I will take a scan whiles we wait for the test results of the pregnancy test," the doctor said but Zayla did not move an inch, looking disturbed.

"Zayla, the doctor is talking to you," Robin nudged her, his gaze soft.

"Ehmmm, sorry, what did he say?" Zayla forced a smile and asked. Robin repeated softly,

"The scan, Zayla, I thought you’d be as excited as I am."

"Yes, the scan," Zayla said slowly to herself before rising to her feet. At the same time, Robin’s phone began to ring. He wanted to ignore it but it was coming from his secretary so he said,

"I’ll take this call and be right back."

Zayla felt the relief from the call as Robin stepped out of the doctor’s office. He got to the corridor and just as his finger was about to swipe to answer the call, he saw a familiar figure coming out of another consultation room. Robin moved in fast strides and grabbed her by the arm, "What are you doing here, Sabrina."

He was surprised since Sabrina was always healthy, never visiting the hospital for as long as he knew. To his utmost surprise, she let out an emotionless response, "Oh, it’s you." She freed her arm which he was still holding tightly. "Well, the last time I checked, you and I got divorced yesterday so where I go should not matter to you."

Robin gazed at her, wondering what had happened just between yesterday and today. She seemed to have changed, both in appearance and attitude but he was more concerned about what she was doing at the hospital, asking, "Tell me, are you pregnant?"

Sabrina stilled a little before settling that it was because he saw her at the hospital. She forced her hand out of his grip and said, "You are so ridiculous. Is pregnancy the only thing that brings a woman to the hospital?"

Robin sneered, "Yeah, how can you even be pregnant?"

Sabrina’s gaze dulled but her composure remained. "And what are you doing here? Are you pregnant too?" She scoffed. Robin grimaced. He was not used to this side of Sabrina and yelled in a warning tone,

"Sabrina!"

"It’s just a question. Or, perhaps you brought your first love or should I say your new wife?" Sabrina taunted with an innocent look. The thought of Zayla made her feel a strange pain in her heart but her expression remained neutral. She would never show her weakness in front of the man who broke her.

"You sound like you are jealous," Robin observed before speaking, wondering where the so-called man he saw her with yesterday was. Whiles he was at it, he also imagined how she managed to have transformed overnight.

She even wore makeup and designer clothes. He thought she never liked those things before so what happened? Sabrina forced a smile which did not reach her eyes. Indeed, she was but also knew that soon, it would fade away as soon as she got over him.

"Haha, that’s funny. Goodbye, Mr. Jewel," she said and walked past him. She finally thought she was free and could breathe again but Robin thought otherwise, grabbing her by the arm again as soon as she walked past him. "Are you sure that you are not pregnant?" He asked seriously.

’Did I do anything to make him suspicious?’ Sabrina did not want any entanglements with her ex-husband. It was obvious that he would complicate her life if he found out about her pregnancy.

"Don’t flatter yourself, Mister Jewel, your sperms are not as powerful as you think," Sabrina snarled, Robin saw red. His hand around her arm tightened and he barked,

"What do you mean by that?"

"Let go of her arm," Devin’s cold voice interrupted. When he was going back to the office, he saw Robin driving in, for which reason he changed his mind along the way, rather arranging for the client who was also a friend, to meet him elsewhere.

As expected, Robin was tormenting his sister again and he was not liking it. Robin’s eyes darkened and as much as he wanted to demand answers and kill this man with his bare hands, it would create a scene. Also, Sabrina was no longer his. Recalling how they almost fought yesterday, he could not do so again when Zayla was waiting for him in the consultation room.

He loosened his grip on Sabrina’s arm, the same time Devin’s arms wrapped protectively around Sabrina’s waist as he asked, "are you alright?" His tone was soft and full of care, Robin went into deep thought, asking again,

"Sabrina, were you cheating on me during our three years of marriage?" His voice was low because of the woman he came with. Sabrina ignored him and responded to Devin’s question,

"Now that you are here, I am fine," she smiled and spoke flirtatiously. Devin kissed her on the forehead whiles they walked away.

Robin’s teeth grounded together as he watched the two figures walk away. Yes, Sabrina was cheating on him all this while. If not, how could she have hooked up so fast? He needed to find out and if that was the case, indeed, things would not turn out well.

He forgot that his phone had been ringing. Looking at it again, there were ten missed calls. He was about to call back when it began ringing again so he answered it.

"Mister Jewel, it was Mister Chance but he said he would come back to see you later."

Mister Chance was Zayla’s father so Robin could not get upset. "Alright. I will see you soon," he said on the phone to his secretary. As soon as he hung up, he went back to the consultation room where he left Zayla.

Robin realized that the doctor was not as warm as before. However, he did not make it his business to find out. He directed his attention at Zayla and asked,

"How did it go?"

"She is six weeks pregnant and here are the scans," the doctor said, handing the scans over to Robin, who watched without understanding much. Afterall, there was not much to see in just six weeks of pregnancy scan.

"And her well-being?" Robin asked again.

"Everything is fine," the doctor said in assurance.

"Doctor, we can have sex too, right?" Zayla asked the doctor with a wink. Robin had refused to touch her last night, fearing that he might hurt the child.

"Sure, sure, as much as you can take," the doctor answered, not looking at any of the parties sitting in front of him.

Robin smiled. "Alright, so when is the next appointment?"

Both Zayla and the doctor stiffened instantly and Robin was curious, asking, "aren’t pregnant women supposed to have periodic checks?"

"Yes, they are, and in her case, it should be in four weeks but I will not be the same person to take care of her. I am relocating to California so another doctor will be there to attend to her."

Robin frowned imperceptibly. "But that was not the arrangement. I hate different doctors checking on the mother or my child and I made it clear to the hospital administration."

"I’m sorry but this is an emergency and I don’t know when I will return," the doctor politely apologized. Zayla realized that Robin was making a big deal out of everything, thereby pleading,

"Darling, it’s alright. They can assign me to another doctor during our next visit."

"Alright!" Robin said, as a relief chuckle escaped from the doctor’s lips. In the next juncture, he said to Zayla, "But I will still speak to the management later or even get you to a different hospital," he pledged, not comfortable with everything going on. Zayla fought the unease swelling in her heart and distracted him, saying,

"It’s okay but can we grab lunch before I get back to the penthouse? You know the chef hasn’t arrived so I can warm it and eat later."

"Sure. There is a restaurant close by. We can do with some take outs," Robin agreed.

The two walked out hand in hand, arriving at the restaurant when Zayla caught sight of a couple and smiled. ’So, Sabrina was cheating on Robin. Now, Robin will forget completely about the bitch.’

From the entrance where they walked in, Zayla grabbed Robin’s hand tightly and said to the hearing of Sabrina who was eating with Devin, "Darling, your ex-wife was not faithful to you. You just divorced yesterday and she already has a man."

Chapter 9: Chapter 9 – Not giving back the villa

Robin’s gaze darkened instantly. He never liked the man in Sabrina’s company and had to constantly remind himself that they were divorced and Zayla was the woman he wanted, the one he loved. Sadly, when Robin’s gaze met that of Sabrina, he felt strange at the way she smiled at the man sitting in front of her. ’This man, who is he?’

Robin had tried but could not get over his intuition to investigate the man with Sabrina. If he was the one who helped her with the divorce papers, then it meant they must have known each other for a while so, was Sabrina indeed cheating on him during their time of marriage? He shook his head.

It was impossible. Every time Sabrina went out, she was in the company of their family driver. He quickly brushed it off. He should just find out about who the man was. Perhaps a name or something of that sort. He imagined that Sabrina would change her mind about the divorce but from how happy she looked, it seemed impossible. Still, he could not fathom his reason for feeling so strange about it since he did not love her.

"You should tell the waiter what you want," Robin said to Zayla, ignoring her earlier comment, which got her upset.

"Darling, won’t you take back the villa after knowing that she was never a faithful wife? She does not deserve it," Zayla hinted but Robin only gazed with a faraway look and responded,

"Our divorce is finalized. Everything she has is hers." He turned to the waiter, "We shall be having take - outs. Give me your chef special. Zayla, what will you have?" He asked. Zayla was about to place her order when a shadow appeared at the entrance.

The next moment, a man walked in, tall, elegant and very attractive with dark brown hair which matched his suit. Robin recalled that the man looked familiar but could not recall where they met. The man walked to the table where Sabrina sat with Devin.

Robin’s heart twitched, when the man pecked the back of Sabrina’s hand upon arrival at her table. She did not pull her hand away but rather smiled admiringly at the said man. ’What a slut?" Robin said in his mind but then again, the man beside Sabrina. Why did he seem okay with it?

It was just hard for him to sit on the fact that it was not his business. Whiles Zayla placed her order with the waiter, he could not help stealing glances where Sabrina sat. Zayla had finished with her order and realized that Robin was looking at his ex-wife admiringly instead of the disgust she had been trying to paint.

She was boiling from so much rage, it burst out and she said to the hearing of Sabrina and those she shared a table with.

"Darling, that woman took the villa I wanted and you agreed because you saw her as a good wife. This shows she never was and you should take back the villa."

The three people at the next table allayed and Sabrina turned to look Zayla in the eyes from where she sat. Not minding the people at the restaurant, she said, "Zayla, if you have a problem with me, then let’s address it right here. I hate for my image to be tarnished. That villa is mine and even though I don’t need it, I will not give it to you."

The color drained from Zayla’s face and she turned to Robin who seemed in a daze at the change in Sabrina. Her sassiness made her even more attractive.

"Darling, did you hear that?" Zayla reached out and held Robin’s hand through the gray suit he wore. Robin was annoyed, knowing they had ended discussion on anything concerning the villa.

"Zayla, I don’t want to hear about the villa again. The ownership has been changed and it remains that way." His tone left no room for discussion but Zayla could not stand her father’s wrath and the trillions of treasures hidden in that villa. Also, what about her family’s dying company? She gulped and countered,

"But she was never a good wife. See how she has a man and keeps flirting with the other. You just divorced yesterday so please don’t say that she moved on. These men have been in her life and you were a fool to not notice."

"Excuse me?" Robin’s countenance turned frosty; Zayla fought to take back her words upon realizing that she had just insulted Robin.

"I...I’m sorry. I just meant that you should take the villa back."

Devin was upset that Zayla was ruining Sabrina’s mood and tarnishing her image when there were elites in the restaurant. Some media reps might even carry the news. He turned around and said,

"Little woman, I hate for people to have wrong notions about my woman. I have loved Sabrina all my life yet she chose that jerk. I’m just glad her eyes opened after three years and she gave me a chance. As for the villa, just like she said. I can give her a better one but if she does not want to give it to you, I won’t force her," he shrugged carelessly, whiles sipping a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

Chapter 10: Chapter 10 – Meet Martin Dane

"There is a nice restaurant close to the hospital. Let’s grab lunch for ourselves, Lizzy, and dad. I also have a friend, and a business partner, Martin Dane. I will like you to meet him," Devin revealed when they sat back in the car.

"If you say so, then I don’t have any objection," Sabrina readily agreed. Lizzy had taken her through the first part of training and meeting new acquaintances and business partners were going to be the norm.

They reached the restaurant and just after placing their order, Devin asked seriously, "I hope Robin didn’t hurt you?"

"No. You got there on time and Robin has never been violent towards me. Not even when he’s angry. He has never hit me before," Sabrina said honestly.

"That is good to know. New York City will be too small to contain us if he ever lays a finger on you. Talk of the devil and is Zayla the woman pregnant for him? Why did you not tell me this?" Devin asked after catching sight of Zayla and Robin walking in.

"I did not think it was necessary but does she know you? I mean..." Sabrina did not finish her sentence when Zayla’s voice was heard,

"Darling, your ex-wife was not faithful to you. You just divorced yesterday and she already has a man."

The siblings stared at each other but the comment was so funny, they laughed as Robin continued to explain, "No, she doesn’t. I only saw her at the time you came crying that you saw her with Robin after telling her how you felt about him."

"It’s good she doesn’t know you as my brother," Sabrina pressed her lips together and spoke. She could not deny that being with Devin boosted her confidence very fast and helped her to overcome the pains of the divorce.

"Martin Dane his here." A tall, elegant man walked in and ambled to their table. Seeing Sabrina, his eyes lit as he extended his hand to her. Thinking that he was asking for a hand shake, Sabrina extended her hand as well, only to receive a kiss at the back of it. She smiled from embarrassment.

"Meet my kid sister, Sabrina," Devin smiled and spoke before shaking hands with Martin.

"She’s very beautiful," Martin remarked, his eyes glued on Sabrina.

"Thank you," Sabrina smiled shyly and responded. Martin looked around and frowned at seeing just a jar of orange juice and two bottles of water. Sabrina requested for the orange juice because it helped to ease the strange taste in her mouth.

"Why are you two not eating already?" Martin asked whiles beckoning the waiter over.

"We ordered take outs but it might take longer because of my father’s special diet," Devin explained. Their father was growing old and due to how careless he got after losing his wife, he began to face health challenges. Now, there are so many restrictions on his diet.

The next moment, a voice distracted them. "Darling, that woman took the villa I wanted and you agreed because you saw her as a good wife. This shows she never was and you should take back the villa."

"I should address this," Robin said, his face poker.

"No, let me please," Sabrina said and turned to the direction of the voice. She spoke with elegance and style, in contrast to Zayla’s childishness. "Zayla, if you have a problem with me, then let’s address it right here. I hate for my image to be tarnished. That villa is mine and even though I don’t need it, I will not give it to you."

Martin frowned a little, asking, "Is the woman your rival?" He pretending not to know her story.

"The man is my ex-husband," Sabrina said truthfully. Martin smiled and acknowledged,

"A billionaire."

"With bad character," Sabrina concluded for him. But the way she said it, made both men smile as Martin acknowledged,

"I like the way you put it."

Before Sabrina spoke, Zayla’s voice rang again. "But she was never a good wife. See how she has a man and keeps flirting with the other. You just divorced yesterday so please don’t say that she moved on. These men have been in her life and you were a fool to not notice."

Sabrina was about to speak when Devin said, "It’s my turn." He turned around and addressed the uncouth woman.

"Little woman, I hate for people to have wrong notions about my woman. I have loved Sabrina all my life yet she chose that jerk. I’m just glad her eyes opened after three years and she gave me a chance. As for the villa, just like she said. I can give her a better one but if she does not want to give it to you, I won’t force her."

’Little woman?’ Zayla discerned it was not figurative but rather an insult. She was a standard model size so she was not little. The man was addressing her as nothing. Her eyes reddened and was also teary, as she gazed a Robin pleadingly for help. The waiter arrived with their packed lunch so Robin paid and stood up, "Let’s go."

"Robin, won’t you say anything? He just insulted me, your...."

Robin waited for her to complete the sentence but it did not seem to be happening. He had not proposed yet. Why? He did not know. Zayla looked like a lost child. "I mean, I’m carrying your child, what if a get a miscarriage from worry?" She hit on his weakness.

Robin was thinking about what Devin had said, understanding that Sabrina never cheated on him. It was perhaps the story of unrequited love which was now being requited, thanks to him for letting Sabrina go. His gaze softened as he stared at Zayla and said,

"You won’t have a miscarriage, Zayla. Let’s go. I will buy you a new villa."

Zayla’s eyes were cloudy and liquid filled them. Robin had already grabbed her hand and was dragging her helpless form out of the restaurant. She did not want a new villa but how could she explain it to Robin?
