Ch. 641..645: The Princess of Northern Land Chapter 641-645

Chapter 641: Chapter 641: Really Ruthless (1)_1

"Here they come, they’re coming out." The sound of firecrackers echoed all around, and the laughter of both adults and children grew even louder.

Without waiting for Lin Changshu to reach the bridal sedan, Chu Suifeng swooped Lin Ziyin from his back, holding her close in his arms.

"Ha ha."

Someone even started whistling.

Held in Chu Suifeng’s arms, Lin Ziyin was a mixture of bashful and uneasy. Oddly enough, her mind was filled with images of her modern self - living alone, fighting alone, crying alone, lonely. Her parents’ failed relationship had left her disillusioned about marriage. She had never thought that she herself would one day enter into matrimony.

Is it right or wrong for people from different worlds to meet?

"Don’t worry, we’ll be there soon." Chu Suifeng whispered into her ear. "You will be safe under my protection on this journey."

Hearing Chu Suifeng’s soft whispers, Lin Ziyin’s uneasy heart was suddenly calmed. The reason she had agreed to be with Chu Suifeng, aside from the pressure from various aspects, was mostly because Chu Suifeng’s life experiences resembled her own, and his eyes reflected a yearning for warmth and familial love which moved her deeply.

In truth, living with Chu Suifeng was not as difficult as one might imagine. Even though the Prince may lack some emotional intelligence, he had always been indulgent and protective towards her, even spoiling her at times. The love in his eyes was genuine. As the saying goes, the eyes are the windows to the soul - Lin Ziyin could tell what was genuine and what was not.

Amidst the laughter of the crowd, and Lin Ziyin’s complex thoughts, she was gently lifted into the bridal sedan.

"The weather is cold, so I’ve sped up the process. I’ve prepared some food for you in the sedan." Chu Suifeng spoke softly.

Even though the weather outside was chilly, the spacious sedan had been layered with a thick tiger skin rug and a downy quilt by Chu Suifeng. In the quilt, there were several hot soup bags and a box of pastries - her favorite red bean cookies.

This man seemed rough around the edges, yet his attentiveness could be heart-wrenching at times.

Lin Ziyin’s heart was completely at ease. No one knew what the future held, but as long as she knew that this man genuinely cared for her now, it was enough.

Suddenly, Lin Ziyin’s heart felt lighter. She had once resented her modern-life mother. If her mother hadn’t chosen to be the other woman, she wouldn’t have had such a difficult life. She wouldn’t have been taunted as a fatherless child from a young age.

But just now, she had realized something. It seemed that women were genuinely creatures of emotion, capable of abandoning everything for love.

Perhaps at her core, she was just like her mother!

The sound of the firecrackers outside was particularly loud. Today was a rare sunny day with the bright red sun watching over everyone from above. Despite the cold weather, Lin Ziyin felt nothing but warmth inside the bridal sedan.

"You better treat my sister well, or I won’t let you off easily, even if you are a prince." As the bridal sedan was about to be lifted, a resentful, threatening voice came from outside.

Lin Ziyin gently lifted her veil, then peeked out through a small opening in the curtain.

Amidst the sparkling snow, Lin Changting, clad in a lake-blue quilted mantle, was staring seriously at Chu Suifeng. As the bridegroom, Chu Suifeng, dressed in a bright red wedding robe, looked less imposing than usual, but radiated a greater aura of joy. Naturally good-looking, and donning his best look for the wedding, using modern terms, he was totally handsome.

"Changting." Lin Changshu sighed heavily and walked over, intending to dissuade Changting. But Changting remained stubbornly focused on Chu Suifeng.

"You cannot bully auntie, or else, I will fight you too." Yanzhi also rushed in front of Chu Suifeng.

Chapter 642: Chapter 642: Really Ruthless (2)_1

Lin Changting looked at the sedan chair, and then caught a glimpse of Lin Ziyin peeking. Suddenly, tears streamed down his face.

"I, the prince, can assure you that she will never be wronged in the future. If she is, you can go to the Prince’s Residence and give me a severe beating." Chu Suifeng spotted Lin Ziyin too, then he turned his face to solemnly promise Changting. Then he turned to Lin Yanzhi, "Of course, you little fellow can also come along."

Yanzhi, still a child, felt spoiled by his coaxing and happily stood to one side.

Lin Ziyin suddenly felt a pang of heartache, realizing that among all the Lin family members, she had always deeply respected her grandfather, her brother and sister-in-law, and Zige because they had all made so many sacrifices for her and the family. However, it was the two children, Changting and Yanzhi, who loved her most. Children’s feelings are the purest—they are acutely aware of who treats them well.

Lin Ziyin hadn’t expected that on this special day, the two who would weep for her like mothers would be these two children.

"We shouldn’t delay the auspicious time for the wedding ceremony." Changshu, struggling with his emotions, was the adult, and he could not freely express his feelings like the children. Looking at Changting, grown tall, he sighed and coaxed him.

Changting stared for a while at the wedding sedan, then finally quietly made way for it.

The sound of suona horns filled the air, joyous music reaching up to the sky.

Finally, the sedan chair was lifted, and Chu Suifeng’s wedding procession started back posthaste.

The group from the Wang Residence that came to pick up the bride was truly majestic, with so many people. Besides those carrying dowry, there were also black-armored soldiers and monks, all wearing different robes, but tied with red sashes around their waists.

The wedding procession, despite having to cover a distance of nearly twenty miles, returned in just one hour.

Red silk ribbons and lanterns adorned the city streets everywhere, reflecting an atmosphere of joy all around.

Ma Zhicai stood on top of the inn, coldly watching the bustling scene below. He had entered the city three days prior. Now that he had silver, the Yan family generally never interfered with him.

Back in Shili Village, seeing the jubilant faces of the villagers, he felt a sourness in his heart. On impulse, he came to the city, wanting to meet with "his people". Sadly, for three straight days, he was unable to meet anyone.

However, he wasn’t disheartened and continued to wait in the city, after all, he didn’t care much about this small expense.

"Long live, long live the prince and his bride, may they live a thousand, thousand years." Underneath the inn, the common people excitedly shouted. Groups of children followed the wedding sedan, running ahead, creating an appearance of an empty city in Feng City.

Chu Suifeng was in an exceptionally good mood. Riding on a tall horse, he kept a smile on his face while watching the people, and even instructed his subordinates to distribute the Lin’s family’s latest candies along the way.

Ever since he had heard Lin Ziyin’s innovative idea, this reserved prince had been intrigued. The newly produced candies of the Lin family were all secretly purchased by him and then put to good use today.

Among the spectators, there were many business guests. Those who received the candies were soon drawn in by the taste, finding potential business opportunities afterwards.

This subtle promotion ended up significantly boosting the reputation of the Lin family’s candy factory.

For the prince’s wedding, the appearance of a monk’s formation from Ding’an Temple also made for an odd spectacle.

King Chu and King Rui, standing among the guests, couldn’t bring themselves to smile.

Ding’an Temple was well aware that they were officials sent by the court, representing the majesty of the emperor, yet the temple sent a group of monks to the wedding today. To put it nicely, it could be said that Ding’an Temple sent high monks to bless the wedding, but in reality, these monks represented the temple’s stance.

For the monks, Chu Suifeng was their sole allegiance, with the Imperial Court only taking second place in their eyes.

Chapter 643: Chapter 643: Really Ruthless (3)_1

Perhaps Ding’an Temple alone was not a threat, comprising only of ten thousand individuals, but all the monks in the Northern Land regarded it as their leader. The cumulative number of these monks was quite considerable.

Even scarier was that these monks each had their own unique skills. Not to mention martial arts, even the medicinal monks, pick out any one of them, were far more formidable than your average doctor.

"Your highness, please kick the sedan door," the wedding lady of honor sang with a smile.

Chu Suifeng didn’t care what she said, he directly bent down and embraced Lin Ziyin out of the sedan. Kicking the sedan door was merely the first show of force a groom gives to his bride.

Chu Suifeng’s intention in marrying was to pamper his wife, not to bully her. Moreover, he had just made a promise to the Lin Family that he would not let Ziyin suffer the slightest bit of grievance.

Chu Suifeng, of course, was reluctant to perform the act of kicking the sedan door.

Upon seeing this, the crowd couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

The female guests were even more envious. The prince’s actions were a declaration to the world that Chu Suifeng was a man who cherished his wife. The new princess of the Wang Residence hadn’t even set foot inside the mansion’s gate, yet the prince had already laid a solid foundation for her status.

Those present began to elevate Lin Ziyin’s position in their minds.

King Chu and King Rui, seeing Chu Suifeng’s actions, became even more curious about Lin Ziyin, whom they had yet to meet.

Just what was so special about this woman that she had managed to completely ensnare the War God of the Northern Land and the prince of the tomb?

Truth be told, Lin Ziyin was somewhat nervous. She was veiled in red, unable to see the people outside or what was happening.

Chu Suifeng gently put her down. Once she was steady, he felt the cold sweat on her palm, causing his eyebrows to furrow slightly.

"Bring gloves and the soup lady," he commanded coldly to someone nearby.

Bai Xian immediately sent for a pair of red fox fur gloves. The borders were also made of red fox fur, making the pair of gloves a fine and extremely rare item.

Under the watchful eyes of those present, Chu Suifeng, as expected, carefully fitted the gloves onto Lin Ziyin’s hands. He then handed her a small hand-brazier, saying, "Don’t catch a chill."

The people, hearing this, silently elevated the status of the princess once again in their minds.

"Be careful, follow me." Guarding Lin Ziyin, Chu Suifeng led her to carefully step over the brazier. They then entered the main hall, which was warm as spring, and Lin Ziyin immediately felt warmth spread throughout her body.

"The newlyweds have arrived, prepare for the marriage ceremony." The master of ceremony was Mei Hanqing. Having such an important role made him proud and resulted in countless rehearsals in private due to his nervousness.

Chu Suifeng and Lin Ziyin stood side by side. As Lin Ziyin couldn’t see the outside, she could only prick up her ears to listen to Mei Hanqing’s words.

Chu Suifeng’s face bore a slight smile. Someone who knew him well would notice that even though he was smiling, his facial muscles were extremely tense, indicating that he must be very nervous and excited at the moment.

"First salute to heaven and earth." Mei Hanqing’s voice was loud and clear, filled with joyous emotions.

Lin Ziyin’s red silk ribbon moved slightly, she immediately understood and together they saluted towards heaven and earth.

"Second salute to the high hall."

The Emperor was still in Daqin and couldn’t come. And the Empress Mother had already passed away, so who to salute?

However, none of these posed any difficulty to Chu Suifeng, he held Lin Ziyin and they solemnly bowed in the direction of Daqin.

Seeing his respectful demeanor, King Chu, King Rui, and Lin Haisheng, who were watching the ceremony, felt quite satisfied.

"Couple salute each other."

Perhaps the newlyweds were too nervous, as their heads bumped together.

Chapter 644: Chapter 644: Really Ruthless (4)_1

"Does it hurt?" Chu Suifeng immediately became anxious, and his smile faded.

"No pain." Lin Ziyin answered in a low voice.

Laughter filled the air around them, even Mei Hanqing who was conducting the ceremony couldn’t help but join in.

"The ceremony is complete, let’s move to the bridal chamber."

Amidst the laughter, Chu Suifeng used a crimson ribbon to pull Lin Ziyin into the inner hall.

The one getting married was Chu Suifeng, the King of the Northern Land. Although everyone was happy, no one dared to make a fuss.

After watching the couple enter the bridal chamber, several people sat looking blankly. They couldn’t help it as the wedding wasn’t in the Capital City, there were no elders or others to entertain the guests.

The highest ranking amongst the guests were only the King Chu and King Rui, followed by Lin Haisheng.

However, Lin Haisheng sat awkwardly amongst the crowd. Strictly speaking, his daughter was the Prince’s consort, but she hadn’t shown up at all today. With just a little thought, everyone knew what was happening.

"Four pleasures in life are a long-awaited rain, meeting an old friend in a foreign land, wedding night on the bridal chamber, and excels in imperial examinations. I guess the Prince can’t bear to leave his beauty tonight." King Chu started jovially.

Silence fell on the room; all eyes were now on Chu Suiyun.

King Rui was surprised by the crowd’s reaction. King Chu just made a simple joke, but he hadn’t expected this response. It showed how much respect they had for the Prince.

"What, did I say something wrong?" Chu Suiyun, who should be feeling embarrassed, appeared unfazed and still looked at everyone with a smile.

"King Chu speaks from experience." At that moment, a languid voice sounded.

Chu Suiyun turned to look at the speaker, realizing it was a strikingly handsome young man.

"Ha ha."

"Yes, King Chu speaks from experience. Today is a joyous day for the Prince; it’s only natural to be overjoyed."

...

Everyone subtly defended Chu Suifeng, hmph, dreaming of teasing their Prince and Princess, not a chance.

"Given Young Master Luo Er’s age, I suppose he should soon experience the wonders of a wedding night, right?" King Chu exposed Luo Yan’s identity with one sentence.

"Thank you for your concern, King Chu, but I have no plans to marry for the time being." Luo Yan responded with a smile.

"Young Master Luo Er is youthful and talented. Saying this might break many young ladies’ hearts." King Rui suddenly chimed in.

"It’s hard to find a true love." Luo Yan uttered sorrowfully, shaking his head in an exaggerated manner.

Despite his arrogance, none of the guests present showed any dislike.

King Chu and King Rui were slightly surprised. They definitely dare not underestimate this young man in front of them.

He was one of the two heroes of the Northern Land along with Si Jinhan. He was a renowned figure in the Northern Land, even outshining his older brother, General Luo Heng.

"Everyone, please move to the living room, the banquet will start soon." Situ Gong stood up and spoke, interrupting Chu Suiyun’s next attempt at probing.

As soon as the crowd heard this, all eyes were on King Chu and King Rui. After all, they had to show respect for the two princes.

"May I ask why the Consort Lin from this residence has not come out to pay her respects to the Princess?" Lin Haisheng wasn’t usually impulsive, but today, he has had enough of the people’s strange looks. Bearing it no longer, he seized an opportunity to voice his doubts in public.

Once again, there was silence in the room. This time the look in people’s eyes towards Lin Haisheng was not just of sympathy but also of scorn and mockery.

Chapter 645: Chapter 645: Really Ruthless (5)_1

Lin Haisheng held a righteous demeanor, his sizable eyes fixated on Situ Gong.

"Master Lin, it is a joyous occasion that our Wang Residence has a new mistress today. The Prince does not wish for the Princess to be upset as soon as she enters the house. Therefore, all the Consorts are waiting in the rear courtyard, and they will serve tea to the Prince and the Princess tomorrow." Situ Gong explained patiently with a smile.

All the guests watched Lin Haisheng mockingly, and he felt a bit embarrassed. Indeed, Wang Residence had several Consorts and a group of beauty even before it had a mistress. During this joyous day, making the Consorts entertain the guests would certainly be inappropriate. Realizing that he had committed a principal error due to his impatience, his face began to heat up with embarrassment.

Chu Suifeng, pulling Lin Ziyin into the bridal chamber, couldn’t resist lifting the veil from Lin Ziyin’s head.

Lin Ziyin, dressed up today, looked stunningly beautiful. Her light makeup accentuated her beauty, and Chu Suifeng got a bit spellbound.

Qiaoqiao, Hong Ying, Lun Luo, and Huangying were the four maidens who came with the dowry. Among them, Huangying was the female Hidden Guard secretly assigned to Lin Ziyin by Chu Suifeng.

Intuitively, they closed the door, leaving some space for the newlyweds.

"Cold or not?" Chu Suifeng stared at her and asked.

"Not cold." Lin Ziyin answered with a smile, "The room is warm, a bit hot ."

It was true, the big red wedding dress was made of down, and there was a heater in the room. It was really hot.

"If you are hot, you can take off the outer garment. If someone comes, the doorkeeper will naturally stop them." Chu Suifeng stretched out his hand to help her undress as he spoke.

"No need, I can manage." Lin Ziyin refused a bit shyly, "If it is really hot, Qiaoqiao and the others can open the window a bit."

"In a while, I will have some food brought here." Chu Suifeng did not insist, and he opened the window a bit more.

The doors and windows of this room were all made of colored glaze, so the room was very bright. The windows were designed according to the modern pattern Lin Ziyin mentioned. After opening the window a bit, fresh and cool air came in immediately.

Lin Ziyin didn’t feel cold, instead, she felt very comfortable.

"Aren’t we supposed not to eat?" Lin Ziyin asked in surprise. A few days ago, her sister-in-law and Zige often whispered in her ear, reminding her of some points she needed to pay attention to on her wedding day. One of them was that she should not eat anything on her wedding day.

Lin Ziyin could understand this point.

After all, ancient and modern times are different. If she follows the three-meal-a-day schedule on the New Year, it will be very inconvenient to deal with physiological issues.

"After entering the Residence, you are the mistress. You can eat however you want, who dares to interfere? Besides, I don’t allow you to starve." Chu Suifeng announced domineeringly.

Lin Ziyin chuckled and shook her head at him, feeling moved by his dominant behavior nonetheless.

"I’m going out for a while, you can eat slowly by yourself. Even if the ladies come, it will take a while." Chu Suifeng, who had become a chatterbox, went on and on, instructing her, "By the way, rest assured, I won’t get drunk."

Lin Ziyin blushed upon hearing that. This guy, even when he was flirting, spoke with such seriousness.

"Will the old lady come over?" Lin Ziyin asked hesitantly. The old lady was not in good health, and they had refused her very determinedly last time. She wondered if the old lady could get over it.

"Someone is looking after her in the front hall, so don’t worry. She should come later, and you don’t need to greet anyone. Today, you are the mistress and the most honorable woman that any woman should look up to." Chu Suifeng ordered seriously.
