The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning Chapter 301
Madelyn knew the discussion between Zach and Hayson would probably take a while, so she had gone downstairs to grab a bite to eat. She had not expected to hear such a conversation. She pretended to not have heard anything, “What happened to Jadie? I saw her rushing upstairs just now.”
Zach glared at her and snapped, “It’s none of your business. Don’t ask.” She just wanted to bring up that topic to cover up the fact that she had heard something that she should not have. Zach asked, “Didn’t you just have your meal? How come you’re hungry again?”
She took a bite of the bread before saying, “I just felt like eating.” She continued, “I’m going upstairs.” However, as soon as she took a step forward, Zach blocked her path. Madelyn cautiously took a step back,” What are you doing?” “Follow me to the hospital.” Zach ordered.
“No!” Zach scowled at Madelyn and grabbed her by the wrist, dragging her downstairs and outside of the hall. Madelyn almost spilled the milk in her hand and snapped, “Can you not be so rough? I almost spilled my milk.”
She had almost scalded herself! “Just drink it in the car.” Before Madelyn could respond, Zach shoved her into the car that was parked outside. He bent down to fasten her seatbelt before going around and getting into the driver’s seat.
Madelyn was still holding the milk. She lowered her head as she said, “Going to the hospital won’t help. I’ve already been to every hospital in Ventropolis, it’s useless. You should’ve thought of the consequences before drugging me back then. Uterine deformities developed after birth can’t be cured.”
Madelyn could never figure out what Zach was thinking. She wondered,” He’s done so many horrible things to me, so why’s he suddenly showing concern for me now? Who knows what he’s plotting now. He’s never taken me to a hospital, but he insists on taking me this time! And right after talking to Hayson, too. I wonder why.’
Zach remained silent as he stepped on the accelerator and left Southern Haven Villas. Madelyn was still holding the cup of milk on the way to the hospital. She lowered her head as she said, “I’ve been wanting to ask you a question.”
The car stopped at a red light as Zach said, “Go ahead.” Madelyn hesitated, since what she was about to ask might worsen his mood, but she went ahead and asked anyway, When did you start drugging me?”
The milk in her hand had already cooled. Zach tightened his grip on the steering wheel. “Do you really want to know the answer?”
Madelyn responded, “This drug can’t cause harm to a person’s body in just a short period of time, right? If I hadn’t found out about it at the hospital back then, I probably wouldn’t have known about my condition for the rest of my life. Back when I was in the hospital, the doctor told me that the only way for me to survive was to have my uterus surgically removed before my condition worsened, since the medical report stated I was at high risk of contracting uterine cancer.
“So if I hadn’t found out about it then, when were you planning to tell me?” Madelyn was lost in thought, ‘In my past life, this was the man who slept next to me for eight years. And every single second, he wanted me dead.’
The more she thought about it, the more terrified she felt. She felt helpless too. Even though she had lived through two lifetimes, there was still nothing she could do against this man who had gotten blood on his hands to attain his current status and position.
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning Chapter 302
Zach was someone who had gone through gunfire and bloodshed, since he had been involved in most of the illegal crimes that Hayson had committed.
On the other hand, Madelyn was just a sheltered and privileged young lady who had grown up in a wealthy family and never experienced any hardship. She had been arrogant in her previous life. Despite being incapable of even winning an argument, she would always have a group of bodyguards around her, so everyone would avoid her.
She had never experienced any betrayals or hardship, so her life had been smooth sailing. She had been wealthy and never had any worries in life.
In her previous life, Cecilia had mocked Madelyn by calling her useless, and now Madelyn realized that she had been right. In her previous life, Madelyn had indeed been a useless person, good at nothing other than being “Mrs. Jardin”.
After seeing Cecilia attend various grand banquets with Zach and shining like a star alongside him in the news and on television, Madelyn felt that a strong woman like Cecilia was the perfect match for Zach. Not only were their personalities compatible, but they were also perfect business partners.
When looking at others, they always seemed to be looking down on them. Whenever Zach was around, Madelyn always felt as if she was being belittled. “Five years ago.” As Zach answered her, he felt his chest tighten as if it had been punched.
‘Five years ago? I was only thirteen years sold at that time. So, he’d already started drugging me since then,” Madelyn pondered before asking him, How’d you drug me? Did you drug my food or my water?”
“We’re here. Get out of the car.” As they reached the entrance of the hospital, the words “SereneCare Hospital” came into view.
Zach unbuckled his seatbelt while Madelyn remained seated and continued, “You haven’t answered my question. If I’m going to die, don’t I at least deserve to know the truth?”
Zach suddenly felt the urge to smoke. He took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket before lighting one up and taking a puff. He stuck his hand out of the car window as he muttered, “What difference does it make? Fine, if you really want to know so much, then I’ll tell you. I drugged your milk with an imported banned drug, a contraceptive. There are no side effects from short term use, but long-term use is harmful to the body. Are you satisfied with this answer?”
Madelyn wondered, ‘If it was a contraceptive with side effects, how’d I get pregnant with his child in my past life? Even though I’d been waiting so eagerly and for so long, I wasn’t able to see my baby be born into this world, since it was stillborn. I remember the doctor telling me back then that the fetus had already developed into a six month old baby girl.’
It had been a lifelong pain for her that her baby had been stillborn. However, after finally getting an answer from Zach, Madelyn felt relieved, as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She thought, ‘At least in this matter, he told me the truth.’
“Thank you, Zach. You’ve been lying to me for so many years, but today you finally chose to tell me the truth. Now I can finally, completely, give up on you. “Madelyn said as she smiled and looked out the window. She had calmed down.
She continued, “Actually, I heard your conversation with Jadie earlier. “Yvonne is indeed your best choice. It’s not hard to guess what your conversation with my father was about. It was all for the sake of the company.
“After this medical checkup, I’ll undergo a hysterectomy. Consider it karma for all the bad things that the Jent family has done. We’re even!
“Anyway, like I said before, however you plan to go against Hayson and the Jent family, that has nothing to do with me.”
After she unfastened her seatbelt, she felt a hand suddenly caress her hair as Zach leaned forward and forcefully kissed her. Her mouth was filled with cigarette smoke, and it made her cough intensely. Madelyn struggled to breathe and felt suffocated as her mouth was filled with a bitter taste.
Zach thought, ‘Madelyn, did you really think you could escape from me so easily? Forget about it!’
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 303
Madelyn’s mouth stung with the bitter taste of cigarette smoke, and she hated it She was then brought to the examination room.
As she lay on the adjustable bed. Kai’s charming and devilish expression leaned over her and smirked. “Long time no see, Madelyn!”
“What the hell are you doing here?!” She immediately propped herself up with her hands. After seeing him, she resisted and did not want to do the checkup anymore. Kai smiled mischievously, “What’s wrong, Madelyn? Afraid that I might see something?”
‘No shit, Sherlock!’ Madelyn thought before saying, “I don’t want to undergo the medical checkup anymore.”
Kai clenched his right hand to cover his mouth and laughed. He squinted, ” Don’t worry. I’m not the one who’ll be doing the checkup on you. I swear I won’t peek!”
Suddenly, the voice of a woman in her forties spoke, “Don’t be scared, young lady. I’ll be the one conducting your checkup! Dr. Stewart, stop scaring the young lady. You can leave now!”
Upon seeing it was a woman, Madelyn was relieved and lay back down. After Kai left, Madelyn spread her legs, covered by a blue cloth. Her face turned red with embarrassment. As she felt something enter between her legs, she shifted uncomfortably.
As the ultrasound probe entered, the image of Madelyn’s hymen was visualized on the screen. The gynecologist touched her forehead and said, “Look at me, I’ve been so swamped with patients today that I forgot that you’re still a young lady. Give me a moment and I’ll replace this probe for you.”
After her ultrasound, Madelyn waited for the results to be out. Smoke wafted around the smoking area outside. There were many cigarette butts on the ground too.
Kai had his hands inside the pockets of his white coat, with a stethoscope around his neck. He said, “I’ve told you, no matter how many times she gets a checkup, the results will still be the same. The most effective solution is for her to undergo a hysterectomy. I warned you not to be so soft-hearted back then. Look at you now, you’re already giving up so quickly!”
Zach coldly glanced at Kai, “Shut your mouth!” Kai dismissively chuckled, “I always thought that you were into sexy, mature women. I never expected your taste to be so unique. Your type is girls much younger than you.
“What a monster you are. She hasn’t even graduated from high school. Zach, you degenerate! Why don’t you tell me what it’s like playing around with a little girl?” Zach glared at him, “If you don’t want to lose your tongue, shut up!”
Their argument was interrupted by the gynecologist saying, “Dr. Stewart and the young lady’s guardian, please come with me.”
The two men tossed their cigarette butts and walked into the office. Madelyn fixed her shirt before walking out from behind the curtain.
The gynecologist looked at the ultrasound image and solemnly said, ” There’s no other solution except for undergoing surgery, and alternative medicine can’t help. You guys should consider it as soon as possible. Dr. Hart has a free slot for surgery next week.”
Zach asked, “After the uterus is removed, will it be possible to transplant a new one?”
Kai looked like he had heard the most absurd joke, “Are you insane? First of all, the current medical system here in Venturia isn’t equipped for uterine transplant surgery. Secondly, even if she were to get a transplant, she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant. To conceive, a woman’s uterus needs to be healthy. Even if a transplantation procedure was possible right now, no sane woman would donate their own uterus to have it transplanted to someone else.”
The gynecologist at the side nodded, ” Dr. Stewart is right. The uterus is necessary for female pregnancy, so it’s one of a woman’s unique features.” Turning towards Madelyn, she continued, “Young lady, don’t get down on yourself. Even without a uterus, with how advanced medical technology is now, if you get married in the future, you can undergo IVF, in- vitro fertilization, so you won’t have to go through the pain of giving birth. “Or you could also consider adopting a child.”
Madelyn had heard this kind of advice countless times and was already numb to it. She smiled lightly, “It’s okay, doctor. I’ve already come to terms with it. Please help me schedule the surgery for next week!”
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 304
The gynecologist said to Zach, “What’s your opinion?” He gloomily looked at Madelyn. At this moment, he would rather her act unreasonably toward him than be calm as if nothing had happened like she was now.
“Up to her!” Zach responded. After that, he agitatedly turned around and left. Kai knew what Zach was thinking. He smiled as he quietly watched Zach leave.
He thought, ‘I told him he’d regret it. Madelyn is the most beautiful woman in Ventropolis. With such a pretty girl around, anyone would be attracted to her. Not to mention, he’s the illustrious Zach Jardin, but he still hasn’t managed to win over her even after so many years!’
The sun was setting as the two of them left the hospital. Madelyn had long thrown the milk into the trash can. After learning that Zach had drugged her milk, she vowed to never drink anything related to milk ever again.
On the way back, Zach remained silent, but the atmosphere in the car was tense. Madelyn rolled down the car window a little to get some fresh air, but the window was closed again right after. Zach told her, “It’s cold outside. Don’t let the wind in, you’ll catch a cold.”
Madelyn lowered her head to look at her fingernails and picked at them as she said, “You’ll help me keep this from Dad, right? It’s not a big deal actually. After all, I’m not planning to get married. I think it’d be nice to live alone and do what I want to do. When I get old and can’t walk anymore, I can just live in a nursing home. There’ll even be people to help with my funeral and burial…”
Zach suddenly slammed on the brakes. “So, you hate me? Madelyn, what gives you the right to hate me?” He thought vehemently, ‘Everyone in the Jent family deserves to die!’
Madelyn calmly looked at him and said, “What more do you want me to do then? I’ve already died once, Zach. If you still have hatred left in your heart, I really don’t know what else I should do.
Zach suddenly felt a sense of intense panic that he had never experienced before, and he could not figure out why! Annoyed, he drove the car back to the Southern Haven Villas. When they arrived home, it was dinnertime.
When Hayson asked about what happened, Zach covered up for Madelyn, saying that they had gone to the hospital for a routine check up on a previous injury on her hand. Fortunately, Hayson did not suspect anything, and they had a quiet dinner.
At seven in the evening, after Madelyn had taken a shower, she checked for new text messages. Other than the routine greeting messages from Ethan, she had received messages Forrest too! from
This time, he was at a camp in Roshya. He sent many photos to Madelyn, but they were blurry. She could not see them clearly, but immediately recognized the place.
‘This is…’
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 305
The location was Murglor in Roshya. Other than pictures of the northern lights, there was also a selfie of Forrest with an elk. He was wearing a black jacket and a hoodie, his hair wet with snow.
Madelyn smiled slightly as she replied: [Beautiful pictures. Thank you.]
She thought, ‘Thank you for looking at these beautiful sceneries on my behalf.” Forrest had gone to Murglor alone. Smoke rose from the tent behind him. The time difference between here and back home was fifteen hours. Forrest had made friends with a group of other tourists during this solo trip.
A voice in Roshyian could be heard from behind, “Forrest, it’s time to eat. After seeing Madelyn’s text, Forrest did not reply. He put his phone away and walked out of the tent. The next day, Zach took a day off from work and went to buy groceries with Jadie.
Although Rosario had injured her waist, she returned to the Jent residence from the hospital. She did not know how long she would be staying there, however.
It was rare for Madelyn to have time to rest at home, but she did not want to waste any time. She grabbed her bag and went downstairs. Rosario walked out of the kitchen, ” Where are you going?”
“I’m going to the library to borrow some study materials.” Rosario chided, “You’re on break. Why do you still want to study? Just rest at home. I’m making some cupcakes.
They’ll be ready soon.” “Ms. Jent, there are letters for you in the mailbox!” A servant was holding a stack of envelopes as he continued, It’s strange that people still send letters these days. What’s even stranger is that these are from Roshya.”
Upon hearing that, Madelyn immediately thought of Forrest. Just as she took the letters, Zach came back with Jadie from shopping, with Kevin holding two large bags. The servant greeted, “Mr. Jardin.”
Zach nodded and looked at Madelyn in the living room. Madelyn knew what was inside the envelopes without looking at them. She thought, ‘He sent me photos?’
Rosario took the cupcakes and walked out of the kitchen as she said, “Mr. Jardin, Jadie, you came back just in time. Here, have some of these.”
Jadie bought two bags of food and put them on the table. She said, “Rosario, why’d you make so many? We can’t finish all this food. Kevin, Rosario, let’s eat together.”
Margaret brought over a cup of hot milk and a sandwich to Madelyn who was sitting on the couch, “Ms. Jent, what are you looking at?
“Wow, that’s beautiful. Where’s this?” Madelyn replied, “Yes! It’s really beautiful.” Every photo was vivid and crystal clear.
She opened those envelopes carefully, making sure not to damage the seals. Inside, there were over a hundred photos and a flash drive inside one of the envelopes too. Everyone’s attention turned towards Madelyn. Jadie curiously asked, “Madelyn, what are you looking at?”
Rosario answered, “It’s something a friend of hers sent over. I remember Madelyn has a friend with the last name Arnold..”
Jadie wondered aloud, “Is it the one from the Arnold Corporation? Or… Forrest? I remember Forrest joined a camp in Roshya.”
She looked at Zach as his expression soured. Madelyn quickly put these photos into her backpack. She grabbed the flash drive and carried her bag, “Tell Dad that I’ll be having my final piano lesson today, so I won’t be coming back for lunch.”
Rosario asked, “Ms. Jent, you’re not going to drink the milk?”
Madelyn walked past Zach without stopping and said, “No. I won’t drink milk anymore. From now on, you don’t have to prepare it for me.” She took a bite of the sandwich as she left the house.
After learning that Zach had drugged her milk for the past five years, Madelyn was now traumatized at the mere sight of milk. She got into a car and went to the library.
There were free-use public computers. On the seventh floor, Madelyn swiped her library card, found a computer and quickly inserted the flash drive. As she accessed it, she found a video that was around three hours long.
The video began with Forrest entering a train station. Amongst the babble of noise, Forrest’s voice could be heard saying, “There’s a train directly from Ventropolis to Moslof. It’s over four thousand miles in total. Remember to buy a sleeper bunk and not just a seat, or you’ll be in for a rough time…”
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 306
Madelyn smiled. She was touched and her heart felt a warmth that she had never experienced. In the video, Forrest’s berth on the train was by the window. There was the most beautiful scenery along the way. The fleeting scenes that the train passed by had been edited by Forrest into slow-motion frames for her to see…
After watching Forrest’s video, Madelyn wished she could video call him right now so that she could see the scene live. By the time she finished watching, it was already around three in the afternoon.
After she walked out of the library, she called Forrest’s phone number. He accepted the call after just a few seconds, “What’s up, Ms. Jent? Do you need something?”
Madelyn, “Forrest, I’ve received them. Thank you! I’ve seen all the photos and the video. They’re very beautiful.”
Forrest lazily took a deep breath. His voice sounded like he had just woken up as he coldly replied, “Okay. Got it. Anything else? I want to sleep.”
Madelyn, “Can I see the original video? The unedited footage?” “You’re so demanding. No! I’m hanging up now.” Forrest said as he ended the call. Madelyn was not angry and merely thought, ‘I’ll talk to him about this when he comes back.’
In the blink of an eye, Madelyn’s final two-hour piano lesson was over. On the way back home, Madelyn bought an album to keep the photos in..
Halfway through her walk back home, it suddenly started snowing. She watched the snow melt, covering the pavement.
The housemaid called her and told her to get home as soon as possible, since a guest had arrived back home. Madelyn wondered who the guest was as the maid had sounded very secretive. She quickly went home and saw a familiar car. She pondered, ‘This is…’
Madelyn entered the house and sensed an unusually relaxed atmosphere. She could hear a familiar voice coming from the living room. Once she walked in, she saw quite a lot of people sitting on the couch. The servant greeted her, “Ms. Jent.”
Ethan turned his head to look at Madelyn and the others did the same. Madelyn handed her backpack to the servant as she said, “Help me take this to my room, and be careful with it.”
“Okay, Ms. Jent.”
Ethan stood up and smiled, “You’re back.”
Hayson chided her in a serious tone, Why’d you attend the class when you’re on break? You should just rest at home. “He turned to Rosario and said, ‘ Rosario, tell the kitchen to prepare a few more dishes.”
Rosario responded, “Yes, Mr. Jent.” Ethan said, “That’s okay. I just came to see her for a while, then I’ll leave.” Madelyn realized Hayson’s gaze was signaling her to do something. She understood his gesture, approaching Ethan and sitting close to him.
“Since you’re here, why not stay for a meal? Do you want to try my walnut cake? I have the ingredients ready.” Ethan asked, “Wouldn’t it be a bother?”
Madelyn smiled faintly, “Of course not. I’ve been planning to make it anyway, so since you’re here, I won’t have to ask someone to deliver it to you. Besides, walnut cake is best enjoyed when it’s hot.”
Ethan offered, “Then I’ll help you.”
“It’s fine, I can manage. You can accompany my father for now. I’ll be done soon.”
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 307
Madelyn was in high spirits. She went to the kitchen and put on an apron before taking out the ingredients from the fridge to personally make the cake. Rosario walked to her, “Do you need my help?”
Madelyn refused, “No. I’ve done it several times, so I’ve got the hang of it. You can go and do something else, Rosario.”
“Alright, then. If you need anything, just ask for me.”
“Sure.” Madelyn replied. A walnut cake was not difficult to make. Jadie walked into the kitchen and looked at Madelyn, who was busy, and curiously asked, “Madelyn, since when did you know how to make walnut cake? Can you teach me?”
Madelyn, “I learned from Rosario. If you want to learn how, I can send you a tutorial video and the recipe! It’s not that difficult.”
Jadie replied, “Sure! I’ll watch you make it now. Zach is talking with the others and I have no idea what they’re talking about, so I came to see what you’re doing. Do you need my help?” Madelyn, “You can help me wash these dishes. I’m halfway through. Just be careful.”
“Okay.” Jadie nodded, rolling up her sleeves. She then adjusted the tap water’s temperature and asked, Madelyn, how did you meet Mr. Arnold? I can tell he likes you.”
Madelyn was mashing the steamed walnuts, with her eyes down and very focused. She did not answer Jadie’s question, but changed the topic by asking, “How are you doing in the Math Olympiad training class? When I was there back then, the workbook that Mr. Newton gave me was quite difficult. I’ve only done half of them so far.”
Jadie replied, “It’s okay. It’s just that the pressure to study in Class One is really intense. I spend every day studying and solving questions. I don’t have any free time for myself.” She sighed deeply before continuing, “At school, if there’s anything I don’t understand, I ask Mr. Newton. When I’m at home, I usually ask Zach, but he’s been coming home late recently, so for now I’ve had to leave any questions I don’t understand.
“What about you? Do you blame me for taking your spot? For preventing you from getting into the Math Olympiad training class?”
Madelyn shook her head, “I don’t. It’s a matter of competition. That’s how it works in Class One. As long as your grades are good, no one will complain no matter what you do. There are opportunities everywhere. That’s what Ms. Hann told me.’ Jadie, “That’s true… Sigh. Anyway,
how’s your relationship with Yvonne now?”
Madelyn glanced at her, “Why?”
She wondered, ‘Is this about what happened yesterday?’ Jadie’s eyes were downcast as she was busy washing the dishes. She explained in a sad tone, “I overheard the conversation between Mr. Jent and Zach yesterday. Mr. Jent wants Zach to be with Yvonne! Madelyn, what should we do?”
Madelyn pretended to ponder and put on a distressed face as she responded, ” I don’t know, but if Zach likes her, as his sister, I’ll support them.”
It seemed Jadie had not expected such an answer, as she let go of the plate she was holding and it fell into the sink. She forced a smile, “But…don’t you like Zach? Are you just going to let him be with someone else so easily?”
Madelyn smiled slightly as she looked at Jadie, “I do like him, but…it’s the kind of liking a sister has for her brother. Besides, feelings can’t be forced. “Anyway, I’ll go and check if there’s any caramel sauce in the fridge.”
Madelyn did not want to continue chatting with Jadie about Zach. The walnut cake that Madelyn made was almost ready. She had made enough for about eight people.
The cake and the other dishes were then served. At the dining table, Ethan sat at the head, Hayson sat on the left, Zach sat next to Hayson, Madelyn sat on Ethan’s right, and Jadie sat next to her.
The large table was filled with five people’s worth of dishes. They would definitely not be able to finish them all in one meal.
Hayson looked kind as he said with a smile, “These are just some humble home-cooked dishes. Mr. Arnold, I hope you don’t mind.”
“Of course not,” Ethan glanced at Madelyn as he said. Hayson, “That’s great. Madelyn, take some food for Mr. Arnold.”
Madelyn then took a piece of carne frita in front of her and a piece of walnut cake for Ethan. She said, “Try it and see if it’s too sweet. If it’s too sweet, I’ll put less sugar next time.”
“Did you make this too?” Ethan asked as he picked up the carne frita. Madelyn nodded and intentionally lied, “I don’t really know how to prepare many dishes, just these two.”
“Okay. I’ll try it.” Ethan said. Madelyn asked, “How does it taste?”
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 308
Ethan took a bite and said, “Not bad.” Most of the time at the Arnold residence, Ethan usually went along with Madelyn’s wishes. This was all just to impress Hayson.
Ethan spoke up, “Back at home, I never saw you treat me this well. Why are you being so kind today?” His gaze was fixed on her, intense and unwavering, making it hard to look away. To others, his look seemed far from innocent.
By ‘home,’ Ethan was clearly referring to the Arnold residence. Madelyn found herself in an unfamiliar situation, unsure of how to respond. Gathering her courage, she replied, “Here, you’re a guest, so naturally, we treat you well. Come on, eat before it cools down and loses its flavor.”
This meal turned out to be the longest one Madelyn had ever experienced, stretching on for a full two hours. People got pretty drunk; Hayson brought out his prized red wine, worth tens of thousands of dollars, as well as white wine. Three of them managed to empty the bottles.
Hayson was helped back to his room to rest. Ethan was not supposed to drink alcohol. The doctor had said it would be a very long process for his leg to heal. On rainy days, his old leg injuries would still act up, and alcohol could make it worse. By nine o’clock at night,
Madelyn helped Ethan sit down on the couch, and Margaret brought over the hangover soup that Rosario had made.”
“Zach, you’ve had quite a bit to drink. Do you want some soup? It’s supposed to help with hangovers,” Jadie asked.
“No need, I’ll go back to my room. Remember to rest early,” Zach replied, his tone sounding slightly distant to Jadie. Even his gaze wasn’t as warm as usual.
Jadie thought, ‘Is it because of Madelyn? But Zach doesn’t seem to like her. Despite her strong feelings for him and all the crazy things she did back then, he never showed any interest. Maybe… I’m overthinking it.’
“I get it, Zach,” Jadie said. ‘Was he not happy about the big deal they discussed at dinner?’ Both Hayson and Zach were used to dealing with social events and drinking, and they could not avoid the small talk and mingling that were part of those events. Madelyn, holding the hangover soup, said, “Have some. It’ll make you feel- better soon.
“Feed it to me?” Ethan asked. Madelyn responded, “Sure.” It was evident that Ethan was maintaining his composure. Observing the empty hallway, with only the servants tidying up the dining table, Madelyn addressed Ethan, “You don’t have to agree to cooperate with my dad just for my sake. 11 Despite his consistent kindness, she struggled to find a way to repay him.
“The fact that your brother is interested in that piece of land on Chapel Street shows he has good business sense, but for me, that land is really nothing special.” Ethan looked at her as if he wanted to see right through her. The effects of the alcohol seemed to deepen his voice, rendering it all the more enchanting. “The most valuable asset isn’t that land, Madelyn. What I truly desire… you know.”
She could smell his breath, a mix of his usual scent and the drink he had. It was not bad. Madelyn’s heart raced in response. “I understand…”
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 309
“But you didn’t really need to do all this… Even if you didn’t give us anything, you’d still be my best…” She couldn’t finish the last word, “friend”, because a big firework popped in the night sky, making it all golden and bright.
Right when it started, one after another, families everywhere started lighting up fireworks. The fireworks were so colorful and pretty, and they lit up Ethan’s face. He looked out the window at the fireworks, like he was lost in thinking.
Madelyn turned around, holding the hangover soup in her hands. She remembered what George had said and decided to wait until he felt better before talking about it. “Finish the hangover soup first, then we can go see the fireworks?”
Ethan smiled. “Sure.” At the Jent residence, they sat on a swing under a tree in the backyard, watching the fireworks light up the sky at night.
“During special times like this, my favorite thing is sitting here, swinging on this swing, and watching the fireworks. I used to wish I could see them every night. Rosario used to be here with me…” Ethan’s hand tightened around hers without him even realizing. “Actually, I noticed you a long time ago.”
“Long ago? When?” Madelyn asked, looking at him. Ethan’s mansion just outside the yard of the Jent residence. There wasn’t a single light on.
Ethan looked at her. “Three years ago was my darkest time. I was so depressed I almost couldn’t take it anymore. In my room, besides the darkness and the sound of water, I heard your laughter. Your laughter sounded so incredibly joyful, and I was very curious about what could make you so happy.
So, I got up to see. I saw you holding a doll, talking to it all day. You said your mom had given it to you. Every day, besides eating, sleeping, and going to school, I always heard you chatting to yourself in the yard.”
Three years ago, Ethan had tried to kill himself three times. On that day, he was preparing to end it all. He cut his wrist with glass shards and, as he watched his blood slowly drying up, he laid in a pool of blood, waiting for death.
But the sound of a little girl’s laughter seemed to have a magical healing power. When sadness takes over, it feels really hard to breathe, and there was a strong wish to break free from it completely. It felt like being alive just brought him pain. Ethan smiled. “Do you remember the song you used to sing?”
Madelyn felt a sort of sinking feeling in her chest. “What song?” She didn’t know that Ethan was her neighbor back then. She always thought the house next door was empty; the curtains were never open during the day, and the lights were never on at night.
“Try to think.” Madelyn thought really hard and then suddenly exclaimed, “Oh, got it! Is it this one, ‘Hush, little baby, don’t make a peep, Papa’s gonna get you a teddy bear so sweet. And if that teddy bear’s not right, Papa’s gonna buy you a starry night.’? How do you even remember that? I almost forgot everything from way back then.”
That was the only thing her mother left for her. But when her father found out, he burned her doll. Later, Rosario told her that her mother had sewn the doll by hand, and it was one of a kind in the whole world. “It’s alright, as long as I remember.”
Madelyn looked up at the night sky. ” Let’s not think about the old days anymore. If they hurt, let’s just leave them behind. It’s good enough that you’re okay now. We all come into this world with our own reasons for being here. We can’t keep living in the past, right?”
Ethan nodded. “You’re right, Madelyn. Thanks. You’re the one who brought me back to life. You helped me see what life’s all about. You’re like the light that pulled me out of a really tough spot.”
Madelyn reached out to straighten his collar, a smile on her face. “Don’t worry, things will get better, and you’ll keep getting stronger. Remember, you’re the awesome Ethan.”

Ethan chuckled. “Yep, awesome.” In Ventropolis, the Arnold family was in charge, and he did not want to mess up again.
“Will you stay with me, Madelyn?” He looked at Madelyn with his deep amber eyes, making her feel like she was being pulled in. Madelyn felt a little panic. “Haven’t I always been around?”
“You know what I’m asking.” Madelyn pretended not to understand. ” What do you mean?”
Ethan touched Madelyn’s curly hair, looking into her eyes with care. His fingers moved down her face and gently lifted her chin. As he leaned closer, he suddenly covered her eyes with his hand. Everything turned black for her, but then she felt a soft touch on her lips.
Madelyn was startled, her eyes wide open. She felt a gentle kiss on her lips. They were close, both of their hearts beating fast. On the ground, their shadows looked like they were dancing together.
That night, the moon seemed extra bright and kind. Leyton drove Ethan home. Ethan had sobered up, but it was not safe for him to drive alone so late at night.
At home, Madelyn walked into the foyer and rubbed her cold arms. In the living room, a single light was on. The other maid had gone to rest. Margaret sat at the table, her head resting on her hand, dozing off. Madelyn approached and gently tapped her. “Margaret, it’s time to rest.” Margaret woke up with a start. “Oh, Ms. Jent.”
“Yes, I’m heading upstairs. You should rest.”
“Alright then.” Madelyn was lost in thoughts while holding onto the railing. ‘What just happened? I should’ve pushed him away…’ she thought. But what Ethan said made her feel really warm inside. Without knowing, she had helped him when he was depressed. She could not believe he went through it all by himself.
When she got to her door and opened it, a hand reached out and pulled her inside. She was so surprised that she was pushed back against the door. Zach held her face tightly and gave her a forceful kiss. Her pants were pulled down to her knees, and she felt the warmth pressing between her thighs.
“No… Stop…” Her voice wobbled. ” Zach… let go.” Madelyn tried to push him away, her hand against his chest. Father is nearby. What are you thinking?” Even though it was dark and she could not see Zach’s face, she could tell he was very angry.
“Are you that desperate for men? “Do you like Ethan’s kisses or mine?”
