The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 361
Madelyn thought, ‘If this goes on, not only will Forrest not have the mood to listen to me, but I’ll also be affected.”
After she left the library, she pondered again, ‘Would he bring his girlfriend everywhere from now on? I really don’t know what he’s thinking. I can’t understand how men think.”
Without Ethan around, Madelyn’s day was monotonous. Time passed very quickly. Madelyn packed her backpack after the last class ended. As she was about to leave, Jadie suddenly walked to her, “Madelyn, are you free? Zach and I haven’t had a meal with you in a long time. Let’s go back and eat together tonight.
“I’ll cook. I promise you’ll love it. Rosario had taught me a lot about cooking.” Madelyn rejected, “I have class later. So, I can’t come with you.”
Jadie asked, “Class? Special math class? Madelyn answered, “Yes.” Jadie probed, “Why don’t you just join the Math Olympiad training class like back then?”
Madelyn pursed her lips. As soon as she was about to respond, Yvonne came over and sneered at Jadie, “You’re really dumb. I still remember who got the last place for the test today. Oh, it’s you.
“Only Madelyn would care about friendship and go to the special math class just to allow you to join the Math Olympiad training class. Yet, you have the audacity to ask.”
Jadie looked calm. She smiled without responding. Madelyn put on her backpack and defended Jadie, “I go to the special math class because I can rank first there. That’s the only reason I attend that class.”
Yvonne smiled as she said, “Madelyn, you care about ranking now?” The unfriendliness in Yvonne’s eyes vanished when she looked at Madelyn.
Madelyn looked at the other people who were still in the class. One of them was a shy, quiet guy. He was wearing a pair of thick glasses. He was slightly over six feet and looked quite handsome. His name was Kennedy Johnson. He was the best student in Ventrocloud High School in their grade. He was also the student that Madelyn wanted to surpass.
Madelyn said, “Being the first in our grade sounds pretty good. But that’s not my only goal.” Her goal this year was to get first place in the Math Olympiad competition.
The other six people still in the class were all elites in the Math Olympiad training class. They were also the top students in the school.
One of Kennedy’s good friends, Lem Billing, put his hand on Kennedy’s shoulder, “Ken, it seems like you have to defend your first place from now on. My ranking was always just right behind you. But now, my second place has been taken away. I’m so sad!
“Although we’re separated by one person, it feels like we’re so far apart. Kennedy calmly pushed Lem away before walking to Madelyn, “I’ll see you in the Math Olympiad competition then.” Madelyn nodded, “Sure.”
After that, Kennedy left the classroom. Lem’s voice could still be heard outside the classroom, “Do you think our school will produce a top scorer in arts and sciences in Ventropolis this year? I remember last year or the year before, both top scorers in arts and science were from Ventropolis High School.”
Kennedy answered, “I’m not sure. We’ll only know after the exams.” Lem continued, “Anyway, it won’t be me. If there’s one, it’ll either be you or Madelyn.”
Madelyn waved at Jadie, “I’ll leave now. Hank’s teaching style was similar to Albert’s. Sometimes, he would teach some more profound questions on a whim. However, these questions mostly involved arithmetic approaches.
Madelyn had a very tight study schedule. She almost had no time to rest. And certainly, she had no time to think about anything else.
Ethan would message her every day to remind her to have her meals and take her medicine. Actually, her body was almost fully recovered.
Ethan was at a venue in Marisburg drinking with a few influential figures from the business world. Most of the people there gathered around Ethan and exchanged business cards with each other. The target of most of them was the Arnold Corporation. Everyone could see Ethan’s achievements.
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 362
Everyone thought that Ethan was an outstanding heir to the Arnold family. Other than the influential figures, many charming beauties came too. Many people from wealthy families greeted Ethan. Many heiresses wanted to have a drink with Ethan, too. However, Kevin had stopped all their attempts.
When Ethan was involved in the car accident, he became paralyzed in both legs. This incident caused a big sensation in the news. Now, he was able to stand up. It seemed like his legs had been treated successfully.
No one dared to force him if he did not want to drink. This banquet would end at nine o’clock at night. At eight o’clock, all the lights at the venue suddenly went out. It was extremely dark.
Several blue beams of light shone on the stage in the next second. A woman in a limited blue gown sat in front of the piano. The music she played silenced the clamor. Everyone quietly looked at her. Her hair was long and beautiful. With the ethereal music, she looked like a mermaid.
Someone in the audience said, “Is she the heiress of the Johnson family who just returned from studying abroad? I haven’t seen her for so many years. She’s truly exceptional! I guess no one in Marisburg is more outstanding than this young lady.”
After the music ended, Megan Johnson lifted the bottom of her dress as the final act. Many in the audience applauded. Some people noticed Megan seemed to be looking at someone. Everyone followed her gaze.
The person she looked at was Ethan. Leyton found some information about Megan on his phone and told Ethan about her. It turned out that Ethan and Megan were high school schoolmates. However, Ethan did not remember her.
The banquet would end in half an hour. Anyone there could tell the way Megan looked at Ethan was different. However, he did not seem interested in her. From the beginning until now, Ethan’s eyes were cold. He gave off an impression of being unapproachable.
Megan walked down from the stage and went to David Johnson. She said, Dad.”
David was the most influential tycoon in Marisburg. Half of the Johnson family’s wealth derived from connections with the government. His status in Marisburg was unparalleled.
He looked at his daughter with satisfaction, “Let me introduce you two. This is the CEO of the Arnold Corporation in Ventropolis. And this is my daughter, Megan.”
Megan and Ethan looked at each other, nodded, and greeted each other. David asked his daughter, “Why didn’t you come and find me after you came back from overseas? You’ve really surprised me!”
Megan smiled, “As long as you’re happy.” Leyton suddenly leaned close to Ethan’s ear. He then covered his mouth and whispered.
Ethan squinted slightly and glanced at the phone in his pocket. There were unread messages from Madelyn. There was also an unanswered call. Ethan asked, “Did Madelyn text you?”
Leyton answered, “She didn’t.”
Ethan left the venue without saying goodbye. This was usually not allowed according to etiquette. The happiness in Megan’s eyes faded when she watched him leave.
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 363
It was eight thirty at night. Madelyn was sitting in the back passenger seat, looking out the window frustratedly. She thought, ‘I shouldn’t have left so early. Or else, I wouldn’t have met them.’
Madelyn left early today because she wanted to go back early and rest. Unexpectedly, she bumped into Zach and Jadie as soon as she left the school. They were going for a late-night snack. Zach did not allow her a chance to reject them. He just brought her into his car.
Zach and Jadie happily discussed what to eat and their plans for the weekend. Now that they were together, Madelyn felt like a third wheel. She felt very uncomfortable. She thought, ‘I’m like an outsider being forced to be in their lives.’
Jadie turned her head and asked Madelyn, “What’d you like to eat? Grilled food, or do you want to eat fish? Madelyn, who was lost in her thoughts, quickly snapped back. She gently said, ” Ah,” before saying with a faint smile, ” I’m fine with anything. Actually, I’m not that hungry.”
Jadie said, “You haven’t been home for so long. If I didn’t know that you finish school at the same time as me, we wouldn’t be able to get together.” Jadie pondered before saying, “Let’s go for grilled food then! There’s hot pot too.”
Madelyn unintentionally met Zach’s gaze through the rearview mirror. She panicked and looked away immediately. She responded, “Sure.”
She had not had a hot pot before. She was not sure if it would make her have diarrhea. She had already suffered a lot after she ate those foods with Forrest last time. The three of them arrived at a relatively decent restaurant. There were still many people eating at this hour.
Madelyn felt the phone vibrating in her pocket when she was about to enter the restaurant. She stopped and glanced at Zach and Jadie, who had already entered the restaurant. Madelyn pursed her lips without talking.
She walked to the side and answered the call. Jadie was holding Zach’s arm. When the waiter came over to take their order, Jadie turned around and saw Madelyn making a call outside. Jadie asked, “Zach, what’d you like to eat?” Zach answered, “I’m fine with anything. You go ahead and order. I’ll go have a smoke now.”
Jadie nodded, “Okay.” The person who called Madelyn was Ethan. Madelyn asked, “When are you coming back?” This was the most frequent question she asked.
“Soon! Remember to go back early after you finish eating. I’ll ask George to come and pick you up around ten- thirty,” Ethan said.
Madelyn replied, “Okay.” She thought,’ His place was very quiet. I could hear people walking toward him. I’m very familiar with this kind of sound. He’s probably attending a banquet that he couldn’t avoid.’
After she ended the call, she turned around and saw Zach standing at the entrance with a cigarette in his hand. She then nervously walked past him.
Just when she was about to enter the restaurant, she was suddenly grabbed by a strong arm. She was then pulled into a dimly lit alley. She asked, “W-What are you doing?! Hmm…”
An unsettling atmosphere surrounded Madelyn. Zach kissed her on the lips. All the words she was trying to say became unclear. She struggled. But her hands were held against the wall. She could not move.
Madelyn was almost suffocating. He changed his hand to grab her hands. He then used the other hand to hold her waist to pull her tightly against him. He was extremely strong. They were so close to each other that Madelyn felt as if they were about to meld together.
Her back was against the cold wall. Madelyn remained sane throughout. She said, “Let go of me!”
After kissing for a while, Madelyn seized an opportunity to bite down his tongue. She was not too forceful. She breathed heavily continuously. Their noses were against each other’s. So, Madelyn could only express her unwillingness with her eyes.
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 364
As soon as Zach loosened his grip slightly, Madelyn pushed him away and wanted to escape. Zach watched her desperately try to run away before grabbing her.
Madelyn felt she was choking on her own collar; she was pulled back to him. He held her body firmly, saying, “It’s. been a while since I saw you. You’ve gotten fatter.”
Madelyn could not see his face clearly in this dark alley. But she could imagine his teasing expression. She said, “It’s none of your business. You weren’t the person who paid for my food.” Zach pinched the flesh at her waist before kissing her neck. Madelyn was overwhelmed.
Zach thought, ‘Actually, Madelyn isn’t fat. She merely gained some weight. In the past, Madelyn was so thin that she gave the impression that her waist could easily snap on the bed. Her techniques improve quite a bit too.’
He said, “You’re a smart mouth as always. Did you think I wouldn’t touch you anymore just because you went to the Arnold residence? Huh?”
Madelyn could feel Zach’s hand on her chest. When he pressed down forcefully, she made an alluring soft hum. However, that was purely because she was in pain. He was too forceful.
Madelyn grabbed his hand to prevent him from moving his hand at his will. She pushed him away and said, “Zach, that’s enough! Aren’t you afraid that Jadie will find out about this? Don’t forget that she’s still here.” Zach asked, “Are you afraid?”
Madelyn sneered, “Yes. Not only am I afraid, but I also feel disgusted. You’re in a relationship with Jadie now. Yet, you did these things to me. When will you stop being fickle?
“She likes you so much. And you like her too. If you truly like her, you shouldn’t do this kind of thing again. It’ll hurt her a lot.”
Zach solemnly said, “I can’t believe such words just came out of your mouth.” Madelyn said, “Because I don’t want to hurt her. I don’t want to betray… him. I’m making it clear to you now. It ends here. You wouldn’t want Jadie to find out about this and get upset, right?”
Zach let go of her. Madelyn fixed her shirt before leaving the dark alley. She then said, “From now on… We won’t see each other again.”
When Madelyn entered the restaurant, she ordered a few non-spicy dishes. She found Jadie and sat opposite her. Jadie asked, “Where’s Zach?”
Madelyn answered, “I’m not sure. I didn’t see him.” “Why did you come in so late?” “I was answering a call just now.” Madelyn then calmly changed the topic, “What did you order?”
“I ordered quite a lot, including dishes that you like. Try this corn juice. It’s quite good.” Zach came in a while later. He told Jadie that he went to buy cigarettes. Jadie asked, “Zach, you used to never like smoking, right?”
Zach shrugged, “I like it now.” Madelyn could not bear to stay even half a minute longer with them. After all the food was served, Madelyn ate a little before contacting George and giving him an address. He arrived about forty-five minutes later. Madelyn took her backpack and left without any hesitation.
Outside the restaurant, she took a bottle of lemon water from a waiter to remove the scent of spices from her body. George walked toward Madelyn and took her bag from her. They then got into the car.
Jadie watched the car outside leave. She then glanced at Zach before grabbing a corn and started eating. She felt the atmosphere was strange. But she could not put her finger on it.
She said, “I heard from Yvonne today that Madelyn might marry Ethan in the future and become the wife of the CEO of the Arnold Corporation. And… it seems like the Arnold family approves of her too.
“Does Madelyn really not like you anymore?”
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 365
Zach looked deeply into her eyes. His thoughts were difficult to discern. Even after spending so much time with him, Jadie still felt insecure about him.
Although they were in a relationship now, Jadie felt she never truly understood him. Other than holding hands, they had never even kissed before.
Jadie always wondered if she was too desperate. She thought, ‘Zach always treats me as his sister. Seems like he still hasn’t moved beyond our previous relationship.’
Zach went to settle the bill at the front desk before they left the restaurant. They went to the Jent residence instead of going back to the Grand Court. Jadie sat in the car as she looked at the huge villa. She asked, “Zach, are we not going home?”
Ever since Jadie returned from overseas, she had never liked the Jent residence in the Southern Haven Villas. She particularly disliked the way Hayson looked at her. Zach asked, “You don’t like it here?”
“It’s not that.” Jadie shook her head. But Zach could tell from her expression that Jadie had something hard for her to say. He asked, “Did something happen? You can tell me.”
Zach’s gaze looked like he was going to see through her. Jadie panicked and lowered her eyes. She grabbed the bottom of her skirt and quickly said, “It’s nothing. You’re overthinking it.” After that, she swiftly kissed Zach’s cheek. She blushed as she said shyly, “Goodnight, Zach. I’m going in now.”
Jadie opened the door and hurriedly ran in as if she had done something wrong. Jadie’s scent was still lingering on Zach’s face. But he still looked cool.
When Jadie was in the living hall, she saw Jasmine, who was still awake. She greeted her before running upstairs. Jasmine thought, ‘If Jadie is back, it means he’s back too.’
Zach walked in with one hand in his pocket. He gave out a chilly vibe. He put his key at the entrance. He then gloomily glanced at the person in the kitchen before looking away.
“Back from a date with your little girlfriend?” Jasmine was wearing a purple sleeping gown, which had a deep V-neckline. The fabric of her gown was thin, which clearly revealed her curves. It was obvious that she was wearing nothing underneath the nightgown. She was holding a cup of water as she walked out of the kitchen.
She immediately noticed Zach’s expression. She asked, “What’s wrong? Are you unhappy? Did that little girl reject you?”
“No… It’s more like…” Jasmine suddenly walked toward him and passed the cup to his hand. The water was still warm. There was a lip mark at the edge of the transparent cup. She continued, “You’re not interested in her!”
Zach looked at her intensely as he said, “So? What are you trying to say?” Jasmine chuckled, “I’ve known you for so many years. I understand you very well. If you truly liked Jadie, you wouldn’t be acting this way.
“You’re extremely possessive. If you really liked Jadie, you would’ve gone mad when she messed around with a bunch of men after she returned from overseas. You wouldn’t just ignore it.
“And the girl you had provided for over a year… It’s obvious that she looked like a certain person. Zach, do you want me to continue?”
Jasmine smiled teasingly as she raised her eyebrow. She appeared very seductive. She continued, “I’m actually very curious. You know very well that you’ve fallen for Madelyn. But why did you watch her go to the Arnold residence without doing anything?!”
Zach did not admit to Jasmine’s statement about liking Madelyn. But he did not deny it either.
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 366
Jasmine tried to figure out what Zach was thinking from his expression, but his expression was unreadable. Jasmine could not discern anything, but her heart was filled with sorrow.
“Jealous?” Zach reached past her and set down the glass of water on the table before taking out a silk handkerchief from his suit pocket and wiping his hands as if he had touched something dirty. After he was done, he threw it onto the table.
Jasmine smiled, “Of course! You’re the man I’ve set my sights on, after all. I can’t have you, so it’s only natural for me to get jealous when you don’t end up with me.”
Zach threw her a sideway glance icily,” Is this what you figured out after being by my side all these years?” He continued, “But it’s a shame. I prefer my women pure.”
Jasmine felt heartbroken upon hearing Zach’s words. It was as if her wound that had already scabbed over, was ripped open. ‘That’s right. I’m no longer pure. I’m…. unworthy of him,’ she thought again.
“Don’t look at me like that. It’s disgusting.” Zach snapped. Zach had never imagined that he would repeat the exact words he had said to Madelyn to someone else. He found it ironic.
‘Even if she’s staying at the Arnold residence, I’ve got plenty of ways to make Madelyn come back,’ he thought. “Don’t forget, Zach. We’re the same kind of people. You’re protecting Jadie well, but if she finds out what you’ve done in the past, do you think she’ll still be with you?”
She continued, “And Madelyn…if she learns that you used despicable tactics to join the Jent family just to destroy them, don’t you think she’ll use the Jent family to ruin you?”
“Go ahead and try. Let’s see which one of us goes down first!” The following day was a weekend, and Zach had agreed to go on a date with Jadie at the amusement park. However, someone had secretly taken photos of the two of them dating.
Hayson looked at the photos placed in front of him, and was so furious that he almost fainted. Jasmine helped him back onto the chair and patted him on the back to calm him down.
“Zach isn’t getting any younger, Hayson. The two of them grew up together, so it’s only natural for them to have feelings for each other.” “You’re just a damn woman, what the hell do you know? Get out!”
Hayson threw Jasmine out of the study before making a call to the office, and Kevin answered the phone. “In the future, I’ll personally handle all projects related to YTCorp.”
“Yes, Mr. Jent,” replied Kevin. While Zach had taken over Azure Corporation, Hayson still had power and control over the company. Meanwhile, Zach was at the amusement park. He got Kevin’s call, but he ignored it.
Jadie got off the rollercoaster. She had Zach’s scarf on her neck and an ice cream in her hand. After overhearing the phone call, she had a vague idea of what the conversation was about.
Zach gave some perfunctory answers and hung up the phone. Jadie said guiltily, “Am I holding you off from work? If that’s the case, we should go back.”
“No worries,” Zach switched off his phone. He continued, “What do you want to do next?” “Do you really plan on spending the entire day with me? Zach?”
“I made a promise. When have I ever broken my promises to you?”
“I love you so much, Zach.” Jadie tip-toed and swiftly kissed Zach on the cheek with her ice-cream- stained lips. “Then let’s go on the Ferris wheel!”
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 367
Zach and Jadie only returned to Grand Court after having dinner in the evening. Today was the most fun Jadie had ever had, so she had some red wine. By the time they got home, Zach had to help a drunk Jadie inside as he closed the door with his foot.
Jadie turned around and wrapped her arms around Zach’s neck, her voice slurred from intoxication. “Zach… promise me that we’ll be together forever and ever!”
CRASH! A sound came from inside the house, which was then accompanied by a shriek. The sound was faint, but Zach still heard it. He noticed the light shining from under the door. “There’s someone in the house!’ he thought.
Someone was in the house, but it was not just anyone, it was Madelyn. Madelyn walked out of Jadie’s room, clutching her forehead and dragging a suitcase. When she walked out and saw the brightly lit living room, she was startled.
She inhaled sharply as she saw the two’s intimate posture, which seemed like they were about to make love. She apologized profusely, “Sorry! I’m just here to get the clothes I left here the last time. I copied Jadie’s notes that were torn up and left them on the table. “You two continue what you were doing. I’ll be leaving now,” she added.
Back when Southern Haven Villas was being renovated, Madelyn had stayed at the house for a while and brought over many things. Most of it was the clothes she usually wore, and the Math Olympiad notes she forgot to take when she had left in a hurry.
After Madelyn had borrowed some materials from the library, she had swung by to grab her things. Just as she was about to leave, she realized she had forgotten to take the Etlinish cassette tape she had accidentally kicked to the foot of the bed earlier.
After Madelyn bent down to pick up her cassette, she hit her forehead on her way up. By the time she gathered all of her things, the two had already returned.
‘I only came because someone else other than Zach picked up the house landline. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come over,’ she thought. Madelyn did not wait for Zach to speak and quickly walked past the two as if she were running for her life.
Meanwhile, Jadie fell onto Zach as if she were drunk. After Madelyn walked past them, Jadie suddenly kissed Zach.
BANG! The door was shut. With an icy expression, Zach pushed Jadie away. “Jadie, you’re drunk. I’ll help you back to your room.”
“I’m not. I want to do it with you.”
She continued, “Zach, I’m of age now. I can…” “That’s enough!” Zach said sharply. Since you’re sober, go back to your room and get some rest. I’ve got things to do.”
Just as Zach turned to go to the study. Jadie suddenly yelled, “I saw it!” She paused before continuing, “I saw everything. That night, I saw you holding Madelyn at the entrance of the restaurant…”
Jadie was too upset to finish her sentence. However, Zach ignored her. Just as he reached the door of his study, Jadie wailed, “Zach, aren’t you even going to explain yourself?”
Zach snapped, “Jadie, I’ve done more than enough for you. Whether you want to break up or not, that’s up to you!”
With that, he closed the study door, leaving Jadie alone in the living room. Jadie stood there heartbroken as a tear rolled down her face.
‘Why? Why can I never get the things that I want?! Why is it that everything that belongs to me always gets snatched away?! Why do I always get looked down upon no matter where I go?’ she lamented.
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 368
Jadie felt confused, scared, and anxious about losing the things she held dear. However, out of all these emotions, she felt jealousy most of all.
Jadie was jealous that some people were born privileged; they did not need to do anything to get the things they wanted.
She, on the other hand, could not get the things she wanted no matter how hard she tried and despite even having to endure the disgusting gazes of others.
Madelyn did not dare to look back when she left, terrified that if she did, she would not be able to escape that hell hole. She quickly got in the car while the driver placed her things into the trunk. “Have you gotten all of your things, Ms. Jent?”
“Yep! Let’s go.” “This Etlinish cassette is the most important thing. No wonder I couldn’t find it for the past few days,’ she thought. When Madelyn returned to the Arnold residence, she saw the old woman again.
The old woman looked over when she heard the commotion. She wore bronze -colored eyeglasses with chains dangling by their sides and had a cane in her hand. “What’re you doing here again, ma’am?
“I’m old. I’ve gotten lost again. Do you have something to eat? I’m starving!” Madelyn looked around and saw that the servants were not around. “I’ll make you something to eat!”
Madelyn took off the red-colored scarf from her neck. Then, she took off her coat-revealing her beige sweater- and hung it on the coat rack.
Then, she rolled up her sleeves and went to the kitchen. She poured a glass of water and set it in front of the old woman. “Have a seat. Here’s some water. And if you’re hungry, you can have some fruit. The food will be ready soon.”
Madelyn switched on the television that had not been used in ages and switched to the opera channel. Surprised, the old woman asked, ” How’d you know I like this show?”
“I used to stay with my grandma, and she loved this show.” Madelyn responded. The old woman scrutinized Madelyn once more. Madelyn could not figure out what the woman was thinking.
“You’re alone again? Where’s Mr. Arnold?” “He’s on a business trip. He’ll be back in a few days,” Madelyn replied as she walked to the kitchen. The kitchen was filled with all kinds of food and ingredients.
The old woman asked again, “This is the first time I’ve seen him bring such a young girl home. Are you two together? “Yes, we are,” Madelyn replied.
“You’ve met his parents?” Madelyn was startled by her question. She quickly changed the topic and said, “Do you want chicken alfredo or chicken bolognese?”
“Both are fine,” the old woman replied. She continued, “We’ve already met twice, so we’re not strangers anymore. Is there something you can’t tell me? Or are you scared that I’ll blab about it? Madelyn lowered her head and washed a tomato.
“Nope, it’s because of me. I’m still in school, so it’s too early to meet his parents. He’s also worried that I’ll be pressured by our relationship, so he thought it would be better to wait till after I’ve sat for my college entrance exam.”
“I heard the servants say that you’re reluctant to meet Mrs. Arnold Sr. and you keep on making excuses? What’s that about?” The old woman’s questions were sharp and probing, as if she were gathering information for someone.
“I’m not very sociable and I’ve always kept to myself in school. Besides… Mrs. Arnold Sr. has always been such a prestigious person. I… I’m not ready yet,” Madelyn spoke hesitantly and seemed a little nervous.
“Are you scared that she won’t like you? “Well…that’s part of the reason.” “Oh.” the old woman nodded and continued, “So how’d you and Mr. Arnold meet?”
“Madelyn!” Just then, a familiar voice chimed in, and Madelyn looked like she had seen her savior. “George!” Madelyn called out.
George glanced at the person on the couch and did not speak. He handed Madelyn a phone and said, “It’s a call from Mr. Arnold…”
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 369
Madelyn answered the phone, and they talked about trivial matters like what she ate and what she did. It was like he would set a time to call her every day. Most of the time, Ethan was the one who called since Madelyn rarely used her phone and would only send him a text when she remembered. About seven or eight minutes later, the pasta was cooked, and Madelyn strained it.
“Sorry the banquet ended this late, Mr. Arnold. Would you do me the honor of having a drink with me?” Suddenly, a gentle and soothing voice of a woman came from the other end. Madelyn got distracted and scalded her hand while straining the pasta.
Megan had just left the banquet venue and approached Ethan when she saw him on the balcony. She immediately fell silent when she saw him turn around with a phone in hand.
Ethan looked icily at Megan, and she was startled by his gaze. Just as he was about to explain himself, he heard the person on the phone say, I’ll be hanging up if you’re busy. Get back to the hotel and get some rest soon.”
Madelyn hung up the phone, and the call ended. She did not ask him for an explanation, even though she clearly heard the entire conversation. She even acted understanding and did not pry at all.
For a moment, Ethan felt a little disappointed. Ethan stuck his phone into his suit pocket. He now emanated a chilling aura. He walked past Megan and coldly ignored her. Suddenly, she spoke, “Sorry. I didn’t know you were on the phone.”
Ethan slowed down his pace. “Is that so? Then you should be more careful in the future. You’re not worthy of speaking to me with that status of yours.”
Leyton came inside with a pink gift bag in hand, “Sir, I’ve bought the gift Ms. Jent wanted.” “She didn’t mention the flavor she wanted, so I bought one of each,” he added. Ethan pressed the elevator’s down button and said, “Well done.”
The two had not spoken in two days since the phone call and mostly texted each other. However, Madelyn received the cotton candy that Ethan had bought for her in Marisburg and got someone to bring it to her. While cotton candy was also sold in Ventropolis, Madelyn still preferred the taste of those from Marisburg.
Coincidentally, today was the day of the entrance exam to the Math Olympiad class. Needless to say, Madelyn was the only one in the special math class qualified to do so.
Madelyn went to the front and handed in her paper. Hank placed her paper at the top of the pile and said, “Work hard and don’t let Mr. Newton down. He and I have high hopes for you.”
Madelyn replied, “I will, sir.” By the time Madelyn finished her exam, Mya was already waiting for her at the classroom door. She held the straps of her school bag and looked even more nervous than Madelyn.
When she saw Madelyn walk out of the classroom, she immediately went up to her, “Madelyn, was it hard? You’re really smart, so you’ve gotta have faith in yourself. I believe you’ll definitely get first place.”
Madelyn was a little overwhelmed by Mya’s chattering. She had never met someone as talkative as her. She was like a mosquito that kept on buzzing into her ear. “Aren’t you going for lunch?” asked Madelyn.
“I was waiting for you. I wanted to eat with you after you finished your paper. Besides, there are some questions I don’t quite understand and want to ask you about.” Madelyn stared at Mya’s innocent doe- like eyes and quickly looked away, Well… Let’s go then.”
Mya had been pestering Madelyn for quite some time. Ever since Madelyn had helped Mya, the dorky-looking girl had been buying snacks and secretly stuffing them into her desk during recess.
Among the snacks Mya would give Madelyn, there was always milk candy, despite the fact that Madelyn did not have a sweet tooth. In fact, she would always get toothaches after eating candy.
Once, Madelyn had tried returning the snacks, but Mya had looked at her with pitiful eyes, and her pleading gaze had made Madelyn feel guilty.
Madelyn had never been so scared of making someone cry. She wanted to see Mya smile and was willing to sacrifice her own smile to do so.

‘If my existence is Ethan’s salvation, then Mya’s smile is my cure,’ thought Madelyn. Madelyn had seen Mya’s results before. She was the last in Class Two and would possibly even be the last in Class Six with those grades of hers.
Initially, Madelyn thought Forrest was the worst-performing student, but Mya had been sick and had not been able to sit for the final exam last semester. As a result, her grades had not been posted on the notice board.
Given her grades, Mya should have been in Class Six, but she was in Class Two. Madelyn did not question the reason behind this. After they had lunch, Madelyn took Mya to the library.
In the past, Madelyn had tutored Forrest every day. Now, she tutored him on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Forrest’s current grades were enough to get him into Ventropolis University. He had made a drastic improvement and ranked in the top ten of his class for the last test.
In the following days, Forrest still brought his girlfriend to the library, making Madelyn feel like a third wheel. This time, Madelyn got to the library ahead of them. Since Forrest still had not arrived, she began tutoring Mya first.
Madelyn was speechless with Mya, who did not even know how to solve the simplest questions. Mya gripped her pen and dared not lift her head, “Madelyn, am I really that stupid? No matter how you teach me, I can’t seem to understand.”
She continued, “I’ve switched classes several times. My classmates all mocked me for being stupid. But I wasn’t always like this; I used to be smart. When I was a kid, I lived in a small village in the mountains. My family was poor, and one time, I got sick and had a high fever. I didn’t get treatment soon enough, so I got brain damage and now I have a bad memory. Madelyn… Don’t worry. I’ll work hard like you. I’ve already learned how to solve the questions you taught me the last time.”
“You switched classes?” Madelyn asked. Mya lowered her head so much that it was nearly touching the desk before murmuring in a quiet voice, “They hated me for being stupid and constantly bullied. That’s why I switched classes several times. The bullying only lessened in Class Two, but my teacher said that if I switch classes again, I’ll be expelled.”
‘So that’s what happened?’ thought Madelyn. “Don’t worry,” she assured Mya. “No one will bully you from now on.”
“Madelyn… Which college do you plan on applying to? Can I go to the same one as you?” Madelyn replied, “Ventropolis University.” Mya looked defeated, “That’s so difficult to get into…”
“If you never try, you’ll never know.”
“I’ll do my best…”
Mya was as beautiful as a doll and as innocent as a blank sheet of paper. She had something most people did not- kindness.
‘She’s so kind that it feels like no matter how badly people bully her, she’ll just smile and say, “It’s alright,” once they apologize. I could never be like that,’ she thought. Mya did not have any friends. Even if she did, they would be insincere and harbor ill intentions.
One time, Madelyn saw Mya fetching some water for the girls in class. While holding several cups, Mya accidentally fell. Nobody cared or stopped to check if she had gotten scalded. Instead, they all blamed her for breaking the expensive cups.
