Ch. 301..305: The Rogue is a Female Alpha chapter 301-305

Back Where 301

I can’t breathe. Inside there, trembling, I can’t find the strength to even draw air.

r

s

Heartbreak upon heartbreak crashes over me, and I am left drowning in it. I can’t fathom it, that he had such an identity, and never breathed a word of it to me.

He didn’t confide in me, not even after we made love, not after we spoke about our pups. Biting my lower lip, I dab the tears forming in my eyes and steady my breath, forcing my trembling hands to pull on my undergarment.

Maybe it’s time I take a long break from everything. Perhaps Dessyn and Varyn were right. Lycannar who kept a secret so great only ever saw me as a fool.

When I finish dressing, I push open the door and step back into the bedchamber. He’s there, sitting on the chair, confusion and worry etched across his face. His eyes follow me as I stop across from him.

“I’ll take my leave now,” I say quietly and for a moment, he doesn’t move. Doesn’t speak. He only stares, emotions heavy in his eyes.

“It’s late,” he murmurs softly, and I hate it. I hate how gentle he sounds, how loving, when his love no longer feels real.

“I’ll be fine,” I reply, turning toward the exit. But in a blink, his fingers wrap tender yet firm, and he turns me back to face him.

around

my wrist,

I’m not surprised anymore by his speed. One second he’s across the room, the next he’s right before me, almost as though he teleports.

“Zephyrine,” he calls, softly, almost pleading. “Zephyrine, look at me.”

I hesitate. I don’t want to. I don’t want him to drown me again with those pale golden eyes, don’t want to let him twist my pain into longing.

But after a moment, I succumb. I lift my gaze to his, and he cups my cheek, swallowing hard.

“Fine,” he says quietly. “Let’s talk. I… I have something to tell you anyway. It’s important. And we can discuss whatever’s on your mind, too.”

“I’m fine,” I lie. “I just want to leave.”

“You just got here.”

s

“Like you care…” I glare at him and turn away, but again, his hand finds my wrist. When I face him this time, there’s a flicker of shock in his expression, real confusion.

“What’s going on?” he asks, brows furrowing. “Talk to me. Did I do something wrong?”

I almost laugh. Almost. I can’t believe he’s asking that. Swallowing hard, I shake

“You did nothing wrong, Just… let me go.”

my head.

But he doesn’t. He holds on, still waiting, still searching my face. Until the frustration burns through my chest. I strike at him, punching his chest and freeing my wrist.

Then I walk to the bed and drop onto it, burying my face in my palms as a sob escapes me. My shoulders shake.

“I need some space, Lycannar,” I whisper hoarsely. “I need to think… about whether I even want you anymore.”

“What?” he mutters, stunned. “Zephyrine…”

He came to settled before me, taking my hand gently, his eyes wide with fear, like he knows he’s losing me. Original content can be found at find⸺novel.net

“Zephyrine, is this about Chantel? About his identity?” he asks softly. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I actually planned to tonight, after we settled, I wanted to inform you that…..”

He pauses, and I look up at him, my heart thundering.

“That what?”

“Zephyrine…”

“About your identity?” I ask.

He stills completely. And that silence is answer enough. Slowly, he lowers his head and

murmurs,

“I didn’t mean to hide it from you. I swear I planned to tell you tonight.”

“It’s too late now,” I whisper, my heart already shattered. “I learned it somewhere else. Tell me, what kind of love is this? That we’ve seen each other’s bodies, souls, and yet you still couldn’t trust me with your truth?”

:

I rise from the bed, my decision forming on my lips.

s

“I need time. And if I don’t come back… then know that I’ve made a choice that doesn’t include you in my future.”

I turn toward the door, my heart leaden, but his voice comes behind me, raw with pleading.

“Please don’t leave,” he says, moving quickly to block my path. His eyes glisten with desperation. “Zephyrine, if you leave now, I’ll be too weak… I might die.”

“Then maybe that’ll save you the trouble of waiting for me,” I reply bitterly.

He freezes, pain flashing across his face, but he pushes through, voice breaking.

“Don’t say that, Zephyrine. You’re hurting me.”

“Like you’re the only one hurting?” I whisper coldly. “Maybe you should go back to where you truly belong, Lycannar. Because you don’t belong here, and you know it.”

Brushing the tears from my cheeks, I walk past him, my chest burning. My horse waits at the gate. I mount silently, my resolve the only thing keeping me upright.

Far from the Lycan Kingdom, I have found Morwen, and she grants me audience.

“He is the Demon Prince,” she says simply.

And just like that, everything clicks. He isn’t even a Lycan at all. He’s a full–blooded demon, the very kind I fought five years ago. No wonder his ex was one, too. But how did a demon become king over Lycans?

A man who doesn’t belong here, that’s what I’ve learned.

Without another word, I mount my horse again and ride out of the kingdom. I vow this will be the last time I return. It’s over. It has to be. Him and I, we’re done.

And yet, as my horse gallops into the dark, I feel it. His gaze burning against my back. Watching from the window.

I know he’s heartbroken too.

But maybe… this is for the best.

Back Where 302

I dismounted my horse wearily, and for a brief moment, I stood still, staring at the bright night garden ahead.

He hadn’t denied anything, but he had wanted to speak it, and I had been too afraid to hear it.

Afraid. Terrified. Because if he said it aloud, it would shatter me completely.

Slowly, I walked into the hall, heading toward my bedchamber, but my steps faltered halfway.

With a small turn, I changed direction and followed the corridor leading to the Banes‘ Jurrek Bane’s hall.

quarter,

The narrow hallway opened into a wide courtyard where several buildings stood, a place reserved for the Banes who had long served the Ashmeres.

I hadn’t stood there for more than a few seconds before guards bowed in respect. I returned the gesture and continued toward Jurrek’s door.

The maids stationed outside bowed silently, then withdrew to give us privacy.

I reached for the door, knocked softly, and waited. After a few moments, I heard approaching footsteps, then the quiet turn of the doorknob.

Jurrek stood before me, calm, steady as always. He held my gaze for a long moment without speaking, then bowed in respect. When he straightened, he opened the door wider, allowing me inside.

His home was simple yet warm, comfortable for a bachelor. A small sitting room, shelves crowded with papers, and a narrow hall to my left leading to his bath and bedchamber.

“Come in,” he said, gesturing toward the chair by his writing desk. The desk was cluttered with reports, scrolls, and maps, evidence of restless nights spent planning.

I took a step forward and sat quietly.

“Drink?” he asked.

“Just water.”

He nodded, went to the side table, poured a mug, and brought it to me before lowering

himself into the chair opposite mine.

s

I looked into the cup, and for a moment, it wasn’t water I saw but blood. The reflection of what war did to warriors, what grief did to souls.

“I miss you,” I murmured, my voice barely a whisper. “So much.”

“I’ve been busy with new plans for the pack,” he said instead, deflecting the tension. He picked up a parchment and handed it to me. “A proposed trade with the Lycan Kingdom. They have gold; we have resources. It would have been the most profitable alliance yet.”

His tone dropped, eyes dimming. “But that was before the truth came out, before we learned that the Lycans are our enemies.”

I saw the weight in his shoulders, the quiet defeat. When he set the parchment down, his lifted to mine, sharp with a different question.

“How are you holding up?” He asked softly.

He gave a humorless shrug.

“My brother said you wanted to sit the war out, to stay indoors while men desecrate the woman you love.”

His breath stilled. The silence between us burned. Then he spoke again, voice low.

eyes

“Her brother killed the warlord,” he said. “But I’ve heard the stories, and I don’t know what to believe anymore.”

“What stories?” I asked.

Without a word, he stood, crossed the room, and pulled a scroll from his shelves. Returning, he laid it out before me.

“It’s a war strategy Varyn wrote five years ago,” he said. “During the war, The Abyss had called for a ceasefire after heavy losses. Ashmeres could decide whether to accept or not.”

“That’s true,” I murmured, studying the faded ink.

“Your brother was the strategist,” Jurrek continued. “He knew the Abyss Warlord had requested reinforcements. Before they could arrive, he acted fast. He arranged a meeting under the guise of a truce. The Warlord of Abyss Army came to speak with your father. But it was a setup, a trap. The Demon warlord was captured, and your father was ready to strike when Apex intervened. Apex sided with the demons and cut your father down.” This text is hosted at Find~Novel.net

My breath caught. I blinked slowly, unable to speak. Jurrek sighed and rolled the scroll back

up.

“In war, there is no fair fight,” he said quietly. “Varyn wages this war against the Lycans because of guilt, because his own strategy backfired and cost your father’s life.”

My heart ached at the truth of it. I looked at Jurrek, whose silence was its own confession.

“If we ever meet on the battlefield as enemies, Zephyr, I will cut you down without hesitation,” he said solemnly. “Apex doesn’t deserve all the hate Varyn is throwing at him, but your brother won’t stop. He’ll kill Apex or die trying.”

He paused, exhaling deeply.

“You saved your brother. Apex helped you. Princess Maerez restored his health. You are the Alpha. You were there when the Council doubted you, when the Elders dismissed your orders. The only one who stood by you was the Lycan King.”

“Jurrek…”

“I heard the Ashmeres stormed the Lycan Kingdom last night to take the princesses. That’s the breaking point, Zephyr.” His voice roughened. “I love and respect Varyn, but he’s walking an unholy path and you know it. Who will you stand with? The wolves or the Lycans?”

“Lycannar isn’t… just a Lycan,” I whispered tiredly.

He searched my eyes, waiting for more, but I had none to give.

“Varyn is my brother, Jurrek. I just found him after five long years.”

Jurrek’s gaze softened, though his words stayed cold.

“Maybe you shouldn’t have. Not everyone who’s lost is meant to be found. Sometimes… staying lost is the only blessing left.”

Back Where 303

They were all there, my people, just as I’d wanted, gathered because I had called for their attention.

The nobles had taken far too many supplies, buying them off with gold bars and leaving nothing for the less privileged, expecting the poor to starve.

So, I called this meeting. The supplies have already been retrieved, and now they will be shared equally among everyone.

When I entered the long throne chamber, my sisters turned their heads toward me. I walked up to Serena first, she looked lively, herself again.

“I’m fine,” she assured, and I nodded. Turning to Maerez, she gave my hand a soft squeeze before I passed her, taking my place at the head of the table.

I wasn’t in the mood to talk long. My health had been failing, and I’d already accepted that I might die at any time, slip into that strange slumber that had been consuming my soul these days.

My beta, Baron, was present, as was my aunt Eiryn. I turned briefly toward the nobles who had appeared per my order, and for once, I addressed them directly.

“My uncle will return the gold bars he received from you, and the food supplies he sold will be taken back.”

The announcement hit the room like a cold whip, and I saw the nobles exchange uneasy glances.

“Y… Your Majesty, we don’t quite follow your words. Do you mean we…”

Before the man could finish, I looked at Baron, who immediately understood.

“The food supplies you bought with gold bars will be taken away,” Baron said clearly. “Your payment will be refunded.”

“What?! How are we supposed to survive without the supplies?” one of them cried.

“You’ll share with the others,” Baron replied firmly.

The nobles turned to me, aghast.

“But it was you, Your Majesty, who suggested that anyone with gold could buy the…”

s

“Silence.” My uncle, Dareth, quickly cut the man off before he could reveal too much. “You can’t speak to the king directly. We’ll discuss this in private.”

“Of course not, Advisor!” the noble snapped back furiously. “What are you saying? After all the gold bars I paid you? After all your secrets I’ve kept?”

“You’ll hold your tongue, Pavan!” my uncle barked, his anger barely restrained. Then, lowering his tone, he added, “We’ll find a way around everything.”

“Oh, please. And how exactly will I?” ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ FιndNovel.net

“You’ll be repaid your gold bars,” my uncle said quickly, turning toward me. “The King will pay them back.”

I raised an eyebrow at that.

“Why would I return any gold bars?”

“Because you’re the King, and you’re wealthy,” he said simply.

I gave him a slow, sharp look.

“Was I the one who accepted those gold bars in the first place?”

The question hung in the air like a blade. All eyes turned to my uncle, waiting for his answer, but before he could stammer a word, I concluded,

“I never gave any order for supplies to be sold. Whatever transactions you made are between you and them. Now, let’s move on. The families with the most children will receive more rations. We can’t let the little ones starve.”

Baron immediately began his calculations while the people outside and inside waited patiently for their turn. But before the distribution could begin, Pavan stormed forward, red with fury.

“I won’t accept this! I paid for those supplies, Your Majesty! I won’t release them unless my gold bars are returned!”

I paused there, exhaling softly to calm myself, and to keep Chantel, who stood behind me, from spilling blood. I decided to hear him out. He looked desperate.

“How many gold bars did you pay with?”

“More than fifty.”

s.

“What!” Gasps rippled through the hall. I nearly scoffed. Fifty gold bars? I turned to my uncle, who immediately looked away, pretending to admire the walls.

“You received fifty gold bars from this man, Uncle Dareth,” I said evenly. “You’ll return them

now.”

Silence fell. Baron looked at his father, waiting. Eiryn’s eyes narrowed.

“Well… I… I’ll need some time,” Uncle Dareth stammered. “I don’t have them now.”

Murmurs filled the chamber. I nearly rolled my eyes in exhaustion. Another mess to clean

“How come you don’t have them?” I asked coldly.

Before my uncle could respond, Pavan snapped bitterly,

“He probably gave them to his mistress!”

That silenced everyone.

Now staring at my uncke, my mind flickered back to the night we celebrated Zephyrine’s ascension as an Alpha, how Chantel had told me the next morning when I returned that my Uncle Dareth had entertained a woman.

So that was true, then. He’d been gifting her gold bars?

“What is he talking about, Dareth?” My Aunt Eiryn’s voice rang out. Calmly, I walked toward the throne and sat down, watching in silence. Let them unravel themselves.

“Eiryn, will you

believe the words of this madman?” Dareth sputtered.

up.

“King’s Advisor, you do have a mistress,” Pavan roared, his frustration spilling over. “And she’s not even a Lycan, she’s a werewolf!”

Murmurs erupted instantly. The tension in the chamber thickened like smoke. I swallowed hard, watching the scene descend into chaos. Before it could explode completely, I lifted my hand slightly. Baron saw it and immediately barked for silence.

“The food supplies,” I said calmly, “will be distributed among the people. The pregnant, the sick, and the elderly will receive more. Those of us who are strong can endure a little hunger until we’re back on track.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“I’ll take my leave now. I trust you’ll see it done.”

Baron bowed his head dutifully. I rose from my seat, leaving Uncle Dareth to the ruin he

created.

How much I would love to stay and watch but my health won’t permit me.

“I’ll walk you both to your chambers,” I said to my sisters, who nodded as Chantel followed behind.

The people bowed as I passed. I had no patience left for the nobles‘ rants. I’d rather be in bed, thinking about my own failing body and my complicated heart, than waste another moment on my uncle Dareth, whose marriage, I knew, had just met its end.

Back Where 304

The sound of footsteps came that night, and I stayed still, waiting for whoever was approaching. The door opened at last, and Isolde stepped in.

s

“My lady,” she said softly, bowing her head. “You have a message from the Blackbridge Pack.”

At that, I frowned. The last time I heard that name, Blackbridge, was during my visit to the Wolf Fortress, when Kaela spun her lies about a pregnancy and whose child it was.

“I’ll be out soon,” I said, and Isolde bowed again before leaving, closing the door behind her.

For a while, I leaned back against the headboard, savoring the quiet.

Several nights had passed since my visit to the Lycan Kingdom. Several nights since Jurrek spoke his truth and shed light on my darkness, light that helped me find a small place in my heart for forgiveness.

Yet, another part of me still can’t fathom why Lycannar would keep any secret from me.

For that, I don’t think I can forgive him.

Biting my lower lip, I rose from bed and headed out, ignoring everyone I passed. I couldn’t trust anyone now.

The war drums had begun to echo already, and though no armies had yet been seen near the Ash Pack, I knew they were preparing, to kill the Lycans.

I stepped into the open air and saw the messenger from Blackbridge waiting. He bowed deeply and extended a sealed letter.

“Alpha Zephyrine,” he said, “Luna Tahlia, a current resident here, is required in the Blackbridge Pack for Young Black’s ascension. The letter explains more. Please accept it.”

My eyes dropped to the parchment as I took it. A wave of unease rippled down my spine. The messenger bowed once more, mounted his horse, and rode away into the night.

Swallowing hard, I turned toward the path that led to Luna Tahlia’s residence.

Since our return from the Wolf Fortress, she had kept mostly to herself and I couldn’t blame her. Like the rest of us, she must have been disappointed at my brother, who had chosen to lash out at the wrong man instead of focusing on the Council that betrayed us.

The path to her quarters was quiet, lit by flickering lamps. The guard outside her door bowed and stepped aside as I approached. I knocked once, and the door opened moments later.

Luna Tahlia stood there, poised, composed, and weary.

“Alpha Zephyrine,” she greeted, stepping aside to let me in. This update is available on find⦿novel.net

I took a brief look around the cozy room, noticing the faint glow of a dying hearth.

“Young Black?” I asked quietly.

“He slept early tonight,” she replied gently.

I nodded and managed a small smile before extending the letter.

“From Blackbridge Pack. You should open it.”

She accepted it and unfolded the parchment. Her expression didn’t change as her eyes skimmed the words. After a moment, she looked back up at me with a faint, sad smile.

“The day for Young Black’s ascension has been set. They want me to come tomorrow to sign the handover papers.”

I nodded, genuinely pleased.

“That’s wonderful news. Young Black will finally take the seat that rightfully belongs to him.” But her eyes… her eyes didn’t reflect joy. Instead of relief or triumph, there was sorrow. “You know,” she said quietly, lowering her gaze, “I… had a night with the Lycan King’s brother.”

I froze.

“Hades?”

“Yes.” She met my gaze, her expression calm yet tender. “And I have no regrets.”

I sighed, bracing myself for what more she might say.

“He didn’t promise much. We barely spoke, the emotions said enough. And before I knew it, we were in bed.” She looked at me, searching. “You once asked me to treat you like a sister. So pure heart?” tell me, sister… who among us has the

“My brother fights for a cause, Luna Tahlia. He is not a villain.”

s

“Is that true?” she asked, eyes unwavering. “The war is coming, and for once, the Lycan King who has always stood tall is falling. He needs help. His sisters, so kind and welcoming need support. And the Lycans, who never judged me for being a werewolf when I lived among them, they need help. I heard they are starving.”

Her words hit deep, my heartbeat quickening.

“Would you forgive me, Alpha Zephyrine, if I stood against you?” she asked softly, sending chills down my spine.

“What if they are demons?” I whispered.

“Who are the real demons?” she countered, her eyes glistening. “Those who love and help us when we’re at our weakest or those who trample others when they’re weak?”

I said nothing.

“I know the bond of blood,” she went on, “and I know how deep it runs. But as powerful as that bond is, so is the power of pure love. After all you’ve done for me, I am ashamed to say this, but I will not hide it from you.”

I stayed silent, bracing for what I already felt coming.

“I’m choosing the Lycans‘ side,” she said finally. “I’m moving to their kingdom. If what Hades and I shared means anything, then so be it. The princesses told me I was welcome anytime, perhaps now is that time.”

“And the seat that belongs to Young Black?” I asked, voice tight.

“I’ll trade that for food supplies,” she replied calmly. “I can’t go to the Lycan Kingdom empty- handed, can I?”
