Chapter 61: Still Lost

Alanis.

’’I’m outside,’’ her voice is cold and straight to the point.

Darrien stands up from the couch as I end the call. This is her house; all she has to do is come in. Why isn’t she coming in?

’’What’s the plan?’’ he asks excitedly.

This is not fun and games, I don’t blame him because this is the type of person Darrien is. He wants action, adventure in his life and this is pretty adventurous to me. All I can think about is not messing things up. I have to make sure things go alright because this is the only chance I have.

’’Wait here,’’ I point to David and Joanne ’’Keep an eye on them until I get back.’’ he groans and I know it is because he wants to be outside, where the action is but I can’t leave Maddie’s parents alone. I need someone to watch them, in case Maddie is up to something.

I walk out of the house and she is standing on her front porch. The person in front of me in unrecognizable. This is not the girl I knew; she is a totally different person. The resentment I feel for her is strong, this is all her fault. She caused this, made all this happen and I don’t even know why.

’’Where is he?’’ I go straight to the point.

She takes a step closer to me, she is dressed in leather pants and a plain white tee. Maddie always had heels on, even when she went to school so now you can imagine the shock I have on my face as I see her in boots. Fucking boots. Does she fucking think she is some badass all of a sudden?

’’I don’t know,’’ she stops in front of me. ’’He didn’t tell me where he took him. I have no fucking clue.’’

’’Why are you here, I swear to God Maddie if you don’t give me something, I will kill your fucking family,’’ I shout so loud from the anger within me.

She opens her eyes wide from the shock, she didn’t expect this reaction from me. She doesn’t understand how important Beau is to. At this moment, I am ready to risk it all for him. Ready to become the monster I never wanted to be; I will do anything.

’’Cassius will kill me if he finds out I am here. You don’t understand. My family is of no concern to him.’’

’’Where is Cassius?’’

’’I don’t know,’’ she sighs loudly.

I laugh out loud because this is getting nowhere, I have nothing. I can’t go back home knowing I did nothing or I couldn’t find him. I need some miracle right now.

’’Maddie, I need something. Anything that can help me find him,’’

She sighs ’’I have nothing.’’

Running my hands through my hair, I take a couple of deep breaths. I don’t know what to do now. Shit, shit, shit. Okay, I was supposed to use her parents to get her to tell me where he is, but it doesn’t seem like she knows. If she doesn’t know where he is then how do I find him?

Where the fuck is he?

’’Right behind you,’’ I hear his voice before I sense him. Chills run down my arms. The person I was looking for found me. Why did I expect any less? I turn around slowly and he has a smile on his face. As usual, all fun and games for him. ’’Hi there,’’ he keeps the smile plastered on his face.

His hair is packed in a messy man by today. His eyes are a bright red, showing off as usual. I know Cassius is pretty strong. I mean he won earlier but I have to keep my stance. I don’t know what I am supposed to do with seeing him here, I wanted Beau. I wanted to find him, but I have Cassius.

’’Why are you doing this, please let Beau go,’’ I start with desperation. If I beg and that doesn’t work, then I will resort to violence. This time I will not let him win. I will fight till I bleed.

’’Cass,’’ Maddie calls out.

From her reaction, she didn’t bring him here. He came on his own, so that means she didn’t snitch. Well, her family was on the line. No matter how vile she is, she still loves her parents.

’’I will deal with you later,’’ he points at her for a second and then faces me. The smile is back on his face.

’’You’re pretty stupid, you know. Maddie is mine, I am linked to her. She can’t go anywhere without me knowing.’’

What the fuck.

How is that possible.

Maddie is Cassius’s link.

That doesn’t even make any sense.

What are the odds that she would be his? I have so many questions but I don’t want him to think I am any more stupid than he already thinks.

’’Why are you still involving yourself in this, you will never win against me. Do you know how many years I have prepared for this? Do you know how long I have been hunting their kind?’’

’’I don’t give a shit,’’

He laughs.

’’Well, you just had to be the most unfortunate vampire that ever existed. You just had to link with a fucking wolf.’’

’’It is not unfortunate; you are the unfortunate one.’’

He laughs again ’’You know this is not the way to behave if you want to see him again—actually scratch that, you will never see him again.’’

My breathing becomes heavy from his words, the smile on his face is pissing me off. He thinks this is a joke but the more he aggravates me, the angrier I become. I can’t help myself anymore, I don’t care if I feel pain. I want him to feel a semblance of how I feel. A little pain.

I reach for him with my hands held in a fist and the hit is instant, fast and unexpected. The force at which I hit him makes him fly so far that I have to use my super speed to get to him on the ground. I grab him by his collars and he laughs as blood drops out of his nose. ’’Oh, look who is feisty now,’’ he laughs even harder when in pain.

It’s like no matter what I do, it doesn’t faze him. This man must have been through too much to even care anymore. My hands squeeze the collar of his shirt and I grab him up. Facing me ’’If you kill me, you will never find. So, I suggest you cut this bullshit out and let me go,’’

He doesn’t even want to fight me.

He doesn’t care about me.

The only people he is interested in are wolves and since I am not one, I guess he doesn’t want to waste his energy. This is making me even more upset; I punch him again and this time his jaw cracks. The fucking smile is still on his face, I just broke his fucking jaw and he is still smiling.

Where did this man come from?

Fucking hell.

’’Are you done?’’ he puts his jaw back in place as he asks me.

’’What kind of monster are you?’’

If he didn’t have Beau, I would have been fighting him to kill him. But now, I can’t kill him because he has my heart with him. I can’t do anything to this monster. I have to remain a coward until I find Beau.

How is this fair?

My eyes well up as I slowly let go of him, I will not cry in front of this man. I will not give him the satisfaction but as the day passes, I feel even weaker. I feel beau get weaker and I can’t do anything.

’’Atta boy.’’ he watches me as I let him go.

At this point, he is just having fun.

’’Please let him go,’’ I go back to begging. This is not the way forward. I know that much and I also know that Cassius will not do what I want. He won’t give me my boyfriend back.

’’I’m sorry I cannot do that. This is for the best. They shouldn’t exist. I am freeing the world of their kind and you can help me.’’

’’We are the bad guys. Vampires are more of the monsters you keep talking about. Werewolves don’t hurt people. You have to believe me.’’

’’You might think so, but that is not the way it is. You will understand eventually, or maybe not.’’ he takes a step away from me and walks over to Maddie ’’Let’s go.’’ he grabs her by her arm.

’’My parents.’’ she cries.

He faces me again ’’Leave the humans out of this,’’ and with that, he speeds away from my sight with Maddie and just like that they are both gone and I have nothing.

He is still lost.

Chapter 62: I am okay.

Beau.

"What happened to him?"

Roger is placed on a bed, in one of the many grand rooms. It doesn’t look like he is breathing. Nothing has been done to him.

"He fell," Gyles lies blatantly. I think he meant to say he was pushed. The man that brought him in, places his palm on the younger boy’s forehead.

’’He will be fine, just leave him with me for a couple of minutes.’’

The older boy walks out of the room and the man reaches for Rogers. He places his palm on his forehead again and closes his eyes. Suddenly, there is a bright light emanating from his touch, slowly the big gash on the boys’ forehead starts to disappear and his breathing becomes steadier. The man opens his eyes and they are a bright red colour. The most beautiful colour under the bright lights of the chandelier. After a couple of minutes, he pulls ways from the boy and walks out of the room.

There is complete silence as I stare at the boy in his sleep. I don’t know what to do as I watch him. I am in this memory and it feels like there is a speed in time. Suddenly, I am no longer in the living room of the mansion. I am in a room with twin beds. There is no other furniture except the beds. Roger walks out of a door and enters the room, he is dressed in clean clothes, this is a surprise, considering the last time I saw him. His hair is neatly gelled to the back of his head. He walks over to the bed and sits down on it gently. The room opens again this time revealing Gyles smiles faintly.

’’You want to go outside for some fresh air?" he asks the boy with a warm smile.

Roger shakes his head and a sad expression replaces the blank one he had earlier.

’’Why not?"

With a shrug "I like it inside,’’ he answers slowly. His voice even sounds better than the last time. I don’t know the time interval but it looks like it has been a while since the last time I saw them. So, what I can gather from this is that Gyles and his friends hurt Roger and Gyles took him to his house, to get him help and now somehow, they are both living together in this same house. It is strange but now I don’t think Gyles is a bd person. Yes, he did some bad things but he is redeeming himself by helping the homeless boy.

That makes him good in my book.

’’I’ll be with you,’’ he walks over to the bed and sits down on it. He reaches for the young boy and pats his head softly. This brings a smile unto the young boys’ face.

’’They will be outside too,’’ he mutters.

Gyles frowns ’’I will not let anyone hurt you again.’’

I remember the last time and the people that hurt Roger was his friends. Is he going to protect the kid from his friends? This is someone that watched people bully someone else and didn’t say anything. Has he suddenly become so brave?

’’Promise.’

Gyles smiles and makes a cross on his chest ’’I promise,’’ he grabs the boys hands in his ’’Come on’’ he says as he pulls him off the bed and out of the room. I watch them walk out of the room and there is a stupid smile on my face. I really don’t want to be here but they are the cutest kids I have ever seen. I can feel the love radiating out of them. That is genuine love.

The kind of love I feel when I am with Lanis. They are just kids and they don’t know it yet but I see it. They will come a long way from where they are right now.

I open my eyes and Cassius is watching me, there is a sad expression on his face. The same expression the younger kid had on his face. I don’t know the correlation he has with the people in the memories but there must be something to it, or else why would he show me?

’’That’s it for today,’’ he says with a sigh and let’s go of me, he heads for the door.

’’What is the point of all this, I don’t care about Roger and Gyles. What does that even have to do with you?"

He stops and turns around ’’They have everything to do with this story.’’

’’I don’t care about your fucking story. I don’t care about Roger and Gyles. I will never understand why you are doing this. No matter what you say. I will never understand,’’ my voice is raised.

He sighs ’’Let’s wait and see. I will get someone to bring you something to eat. You need more strength to see what I will show you,’’ ith that he walks out of the cell and out of my sight.

I sit down on the cold floor and rest my back on the wall. The pain in my chest is heavy and too much to handle. I am tired of being here, tired of this pointless torture. Would I prefer death right now? No, because I am not ready to leave Alanis. I need to get the strength to escape from this. Cassius is not thinking straight, all his focus is on showing me what he thinks will make me understand things from his perspective.

The caged door opens abruptly, revealing the man with the face tattoo from earlier. He is carrying a silver tray as he walks over to me. There is a very irritating frown on his face—almost like he doesn’t really want to be here. If he doesn’t want to be here, doing this, then why is he doing this. No one forced him, at least I don’t think Cassius is the kind of person to force someone. He is a vile person but this idiot here is doing this on his own free will.

’’For you,’’ the man drops the tray on the ground. The water in the metal cup spills and reduces. It doesn’t even look like it is enough for me in the first place and now he has reduced my ration. How is this supposed to even quench my thirst? There is a slice of bread and two boiled eggs in a plate. This is not sufficient enough. It can’t help me right now, and I guess that was his –plan. He doesn’t want to get me strong enough to try to escape, he just wants me strong enough to see what he has to show me.

This food might not be enough but I need to eat it because it will give me a fighting chance. I grab the bread from the plate and place it in between my lips slowly. The bread is dry and almost inedible but I devour it completely.

Face tattoo guy smirks, almost like he finds it funny that I am succumbing to Cassius. There is no pride left in me, I cant reduce this food because I am starving.

’’Enjoy,’’ he says and walks out of the room.

I roll my eyes and continue eating the food. This is the only thing I can do. Sit down in this hell hole and think about Lanis. I miss him so much. I miss everything about him. After I finish the food, my stomach thanks me silently. I feel the effect of the tiny meal. With my eyes close I think about him. His smile is etched to my memory. The little crinkle in his eyes, the one dimple that I can’t get enough of. Slowly it doesn’t seem like a memory. Slowly I am seeing him.

He is in a car, with his brother.

He looks angry.

I hate seeing him angry. I don’t know if this is real or I am just losing my mind as per all that I have been through, but I don’t open my eyes. I stay in my head because seeing him is better than not seeing him at all. Derrien touches him and he sighs loudly "I don’t know what to do," he announces.

"We know he is still alive, as long as he is alive, we have hope. We will find him.’’ Darrien comforts him.

This is a surprise to me because I never expected Darrien to be the one comforting him. They don’t really like each other. In fact, it is safe to say they hate each other. Well, Lanis doesn’t hate him, but they don’t get along.

’’We can’t keep hoping that he keeps him alive. We need to find him," he cries even louder.

"I know, I have a couple of people searching. It will take a while but a few of my friends are on it. El too."

Okay, Darrien is helping.

"I can’t take this anymore, Darrien. I can’t stand not knowing."

I hate this feeling within me. Watching him, worrying about him. Being unable to assure him that I am fine.

"I am okay Lanis," I say those words out loud with my eyes still closed. I am still watching him. He looks up for a second. Almost like he heard me. I don’t know If this is just me, losing my fucking mind but I feel him. I feel his heart race as my words travel.

He heard me.

Chapter 63: Mind link?

Alanis.

The drive home is full of anger.

I am going back home and I still haven’t found him. I thought I would get a clue to where Cassius is keeping him. I thought I would get some answers but there is nothing but disappointment.

Darrien is as pissed as me but he is trying to keep me calm. We both can’t be upset at the same time; it will get us nowhere.

"I don’t know what to do," I conclude defeated.

Darrien sighs loudly and I watch him with my side-eyes. I still have to focus on the road. At this point, I am at the endpoint. I don’t have any other leads, no solutions. If Cassius kills him before I can get to him, I don’t know what I will do.

"We know that he is alive, as long as he is alive, we have hope. We will find him," he tries to reason with me. He Is right, but the longer we wait, the higher the chances of him getting killed. From what I have gathered, his pack has given up on him. They are all in denial. Thinking that Fallon could somehow be the saving grace they need. Cassius has a plan; I know he does and that plan is killing all the wolves in this town. He won’t just stop at Beau, so they are all not safe. Right now, I can’t convince them otherwise. They never even accepted me in the first place. So, there is no way they will listen to me. The only thing I can do is bring Beau back. He is the only one that can talk sense into them all.

"We can’t keep hoping that he keeps him alive, we have to find him."

The desperation is evident in the sound of my voice. I have reached my limit. Darrien is the one at the short end of this. I am putting all my pent-up frustration on him.

The surprising thing is how chill he is about it all.

He is slowly becoming one of my favourite people.

"I know, I have a couple of people searching, it will take a while but a few of my friends are on it. El too."

I am shocked by his words because they are unexpected. Vampires know other vampires. We might not all be as together as the wolves but we still have loyalty between our kind. Darrien has a lot of friends. He knows a lot of people and there is a possibility that one of those said people will see Cassius. Possibly someone saw him at his location.

"I can’t take this anymore Darrien, I can’t stand not knowing," my voice is weak as it trembles. My hands shake as I try to grip unto the steering wheel. There is a lot going on in my head. A lot of fighting going on between my heart and my brain. My heart is weak, tired and alone. It can’t fight anymore. I just want to crawl into a hole and be done with but my brain is telling me to stay strong, not to give up. It is a fight I cannot win.

We get home and I park the car in our driveway. Darrien looks at me one last time and manages a faint smile. I can’t focus on how unexpected he is being. He gets down from the car and I take steady breaths as I feel the tears start to fall.

I cannot help myself anymore.

This is all I can do.

Cry like a fucking pussy.

"How do I know you’re okay, how do I do this without you?"

I am talking to myself. I don’t expect an answer from him. This is just me trying to understand how I will continue without him. I have never been one to cry, at least not until I met Beau. He brought out a lot of emotions in me that I never knew I had. Now, any small thing, my eyes burst out like a leaking tap.

I hate it.

Being this vulnerable.

At least when Beau was with me, he’d hold me in his arms and comfort me. Let me know that everything was going to be alright.

Who is going to assure me now?

I am okay.

I hear those three words suddenly and it sounds like it is coming from my head. Jumping up, I look around in search of him. I swear it was his voice. I heard Beau just now.

"Beau," I call his name out loud, slowly and hopeful. I don’t know what is going to happen but I feel him even stronger than I have all day. If he is somehow communicating with me, I want to hear him again.

Silence.

All I hear is silence, mocking me.

I wait.

And wait.

This might take some time.

"Beau, are you here?"

I am losing my mind. Talking to myself like somehow, it’ll make a difference. Is this even possible? To communicate with him when he is not around. I’ve never heard about this before.

Lanis.

It is just my name.

One word.

But my heart reacts to it like it is everything.

"It’s you, you’re really talking to me right now?"

Yes, I am here.

I sit on the chair and take deep breaths. This is surreal, I have so many questions. This is insane.

"Where are you?"

I ask him the most important question because that is what I need right now. Know his location and then find him. Would he even know where he is? Is it even possible?

I don’t know.

Fuck, I knew that would be the likely answer. Cassius wouldn’t just take him to a place where he knew. It cannot be that easy.

"How is this possible?"

I know I am only asking questions. He doesn’t need all this right now. This is weird but I just want to keep him talking. I don’t want to lose this.

I don’t know. I only have this kind of connection with my kind. This is even more intense. I can see you too.

I take a deep breath because of the fact that he can see me makes me excited. Right now, it feels like he is here, with me.

"How?"

Close your eyes, my eyes are closed right now.

It is a suggestion. Not like it would work but just the fact that I can c hear him in my head is exciting enough. It’ll be a plus if I can also see him. The fear of disappointment lingers. The possibility that it won’t work. If I can see him, I can see where he Is. If I see where he is, I can also find him. It is a long shot but there is a fifty-fifty chance that I will find him.

With a heavy breath, I close my eyes slowly. Darkness is all I see as I wait for the magic to happen.

"I can’t see anything," I say deadpan.

Think about me. Focus on the memories of us. Do what I did.

His voice is like music to my ears. His words are a beautiful whisper, pulling me in gradually. I want to suffocate in all that he is. I want to see him too. I do what he asks and his face is all I see. The smile he always had on when he was close to me. When you apart from someone you need for basic survival, it is detrimental. Slowly, you forget the little things. Like the way he smiled, the sound of his voice. How he played with my hair when I was asleep. It has just been a couple of weeks and he is fading away from my memories.

I don’t want him to fade away.

I am right here.

With those words, I see what he is talking about. The man I am so in love with. He is in a room, on the floor. He doesn’t have any clothes on but his boxers and it is ripped and completely covered in dirt. His face breaks my heart the most. There is no smile, no crinkle in his eyes. Just pain and something else I cannot put my finger on.

Shit.

"I see you," I exclaim. I am not happy with the way he looks but I am just happy that I even see him. As long as I see him, I know he is alive. As long as he is alive, I can get to him.

He looks up, almost like he is next to me. A smile crawls up to his face slowly but it is so wide, that I get the satisfaction.

Hi.

He breathes that one word out of relief.

We are connected. This is a mind link; I haven’t been able to talk to Rex or Bells. I have been too weak. Cassius has me on Wolfsbane.

Shit.

I know what that is, it is fatal to wolves. It could kill him. I need to get him out of there.

"How do I find you?" I ask him because that is my main mission.

He shrugs and stands up from the floor. His legs quiver but he manages to keep himself upright. My eyes follow him in the direction of the door. It is made of pure metal, there is a square hole on the top of the door, almost like a cell.

I don’t know. How long has it been since he took me?

I sigh "Two weeks."

He stops walking and the shock is evident on his face. This is ridiculous. Cassius said Maddie was his link and he found her. Beau is mine, I should be able to find him.

"Look out the door," I suggest.

Maybe there is something that can lead me to him. A sign, trace of where he is. He obeys and stops in front of the door with his hands on the metal rods. I look out through his eyes and there is a hallway. It is dark and scary looking. I see a man on a stool with his eyes close. The sounds of his heavy snores suddenly become louder. There is nothing except the man on the stool. This is pointless.

Shit.

Something brings me out of my pull with Beau and I frown as I hear the knock on the glass window of my car. My first reaction to whoever just interrupted me is anger. It was hard to get to Beau and now he is out of my head thanks to someone.

Brown eyes are all I see.

I know him.

I have seen him before.

What is he doing here?

Chapter 64: Alone

Jabi

Ever since Beau got missing, things have changed here. Slowly this place is not feeling like home anymore.

I never actually felt like I belonged to this pack. There was a part of me that felt lost. All my life I have been an outcast, not really accepted by anyone. It sucks to be someone no one wants. Everyone in my pack makes me feel that way—except Beau and now he is gone.

At least no one seems to be looking for him. It makes no sense that they will just give up. They all seem to be brainwashed by Mr Fallon. He is the new Alpha. At least until the ritual. I am only loyal to Beau. He is the only one I care about. They say the pack is like a family but I don’t feel like I have a family. I have never really belonged in this pack. Sometimes I wish I could just die from the heartbreak I am supposed to eventually die from.

Beau is the only one that believed I would find an Alpha. I am still a kid; I should be able to hold on for a while at least another two years but I am already exhausted.

Things are going haywire here.

Everyone is scared of Fallon.

Deep down they know he killed Rick but no one wants to admit it. They are scared that they could be next. Beau is the only one that had the courage to fight him and now he is gone. The only person other than Beau that I semi trust is Rex. He is waiting for Beau; I know he is. I can see it in his eyes. He doesn’t have the power to rebel against an elderly Alpha, no one does.

Alby is supposed to perform the Alpha ritual. All against his will and belief. We are living in a tyrant situation. Everyone is scared of the Vampires and the fact that they could attack us at any time that no one wants to stand up against Fallon.

I can’t stay here anymore, at least until Beau gets back. I know he will come back. He is the strongest person I know. He is the bravest person I know.

I have been saving for a while now.

I have a couple of hundred bucks from my job at a diner. It is supposed to help me escape. At this point, if I die, I want to die away from these people that are supposed to be my family.

It’s been a long time coming.

Being the outcast all because I lost my family is the most heart-breaking situation. My father fought in the war and lost his life for the pack, in the end, I lost my family and in turn became an outcast. The irony of it all is that I don’t even care about any of that.

Beau made me feel like I belonged and now that he is not here anymore, there is no point staying here.

I look around the community for Rex, I need to talk to him about it. I don’t want to leave without telling someone, I can’t stay here anymore. Ever since Fallon took control, he has everyone believing he can’t protect them from the vampires. He is planning an attack. He has convinced everyone that Beau is dead.

No one is even looking for him.

There is no way he is still alive since Cassius took him.

He is going at it the wrong way. We have suddenly become hunters. Searching and killing vampires. Even if they have nothing to do with Cassius. I know this is the wrong way to go at it. We are asking for another war and I don’t want to be here for it.

There is nothing I can do to protect anyone. I am at the weakest I have ever been. I have no energy left to even stay here. I haven’t hunted for fresh mean since Beau disappeared. I can’t do it alone and I have no one to do it with.

I finally find Rex and the walk to him is with heavy breaths. He looks as exhausted as me. Okay, maybe not as exhausted as me, but pretty tired. His hair is a rumpled mess and his clothes look like they weren’t ironed. His eyes have dark circles around them.

"Rex," I call his name.

He looks up and manages a smile, he has been hanging around Isabella. I guess he needs to be around an Alpha. It is easier for him when he has people that care about him. I have no one.

"Hey," he waves his hand in the air.

"I need to talk to you,"

He looks around and over me like he is searching for something or maybe someone. "Are you okay?"

I haven’t been okay for a while.

"Yeah, can we go somewhere else?"

There are people around, I don’t want to say whatever in front of anyone. I want him to know, in case Beau comes back. I don’t want him worrying about me. He is the only one that worries about me.

"Okay," he leads me to the path that leads into the woods and to the exit of our land. We are not allowed to go into the woods. We have to stay in groups, in case vampires try to attack us.

We stop in front of the gate to the parking lot. He sighs and looks around. There is no one here.

"What is going on?"

I sigh and run my hands through my hair. This is the moment I tell him that I am leaving, that I am abandoning ship. Okay, this is not a good idea but it is the best I can do.

I can’t stay here anymore.

I don’t believe in our leader right now.

"I need to leave," I tell him straight forward.

He furrows his brows confused at my revelation. "What do you mean? Leave where?"

"The pack."

He opens his eyes wide from the shock of my words. No one leaves the pack. The only way you are allowed to leave is by dying. I don’t want to die in this pack. I don’t want to be buried with people that don’t give a shit about me.

I won’t die here.

"You can’t leave," he says deadpan.

I frown "I am not asking for permission. I just thought I should tell you because of the respect I have for Beau."

"Beau is not gone."

"People are saying he is dead."

"Do you really believe that?"

I shake my head "No."

"Then don’t do this. Be patient. He will come back. You just have to believe in him."

"No one is looking for him."

He sighs "You might think so, but I haven’t given up. Isabelle is continuously searching. Don’t think that we have given up on him. We need you to be strong now."

"I am exhausted."

He nods in understanding. Rex is an omega like me. He might not be going through the same things as me but he is going through his own demons. He is struggling with his own battles. So, I cannot judge him and say he has it easy. I don’t want to.

"Let’s just get through this as each day passes by," he is trying to comfort me. I don’t feel comfort at this moment. Thinking about it, if I desert the pack, beau might not be happy with me when he comes back.

I would hate to make him upset with me.

"Okay."

He smiles and pats my shoulder encouragingly "I’m going over to Alanis’s house. You should come with me, get away from the compound for a bit."

I nod.

"You will be fine."

*****************

The drive is quiet because I don’t really have anything to talk about with Rex. Once we get to the house, he leaves me in the car with the explanation that he needs to warn them first. I know they are not completely accepting towards us but I also know that they don’t completely hate us.

It might not be the best idea to bring me with him but he was right, I needed to get out of the community.

Just being away from my supposed home is making me feel better. I know I promised Rex that I will be optimistic. I believe that Beau will be found. He is not just going to give up but I don’t know how long it will take. I don’t know if I will be able to survive it.

"Wait here," he states.

After a couple of minutes of waiting, I see a car park right next to us and I see Darrien get down from the car. There is a sad expression on his face and as he passes me without any notice, my heart sinks in my chest. There is something about him, he intrigues me.

So much.

I have met him only once and something within makes me want this to be a reoccurrence. I want to get to know him. I want to be close to him. I know he is older than me. Probably about 6-7 years but I don’t care.

As he goes into the house, I look at the car and see Alanis. He looks a mess. His eyes are red, almost like he has been crying. This thing must be getting to him so much.

I don’t know how he feels because I haven’t found my mate but I feel for him. With a lot of hesitation, I get down from the car and walk over to his. He doesn’t notice me, it seems like he is talking to someone, but there is no one in the car with him.

I reach for the window and with slow movements, I knock on It. Unsure of why I am doing this in the first place.

Chapter 65: More I love you’s

Beau.

"Well if it isn’t Tweedle-dee and Tweedledum."

I recognise the boy. He is the one that started all this. He is the one that hurt Roger that day. As usual, he is not alone. He has his minions by his side but the only difference this time is the fact that Gyles is on the other side of this attack. He grabs Roger by the arm and pulls him closer.

He is protecting him, making sure no one hurts him.

"Leave us alone," Gyles cries.

The boy with the evil smile laughs. This is fun for him. He gets to torment them mentally.

"So, when did this happen? We thought you were dead," he asks with curiosity in his eyes.

I know what happened. He would’ve died but these kids look like they could care less. This is the act of monsters. They have murderous looks in their eyes. I already hate them.

"Well he is not," Gyles speaks out angrily.

"You know, killing you will be the easiest thing. No one will even miss you," slowly the boy responsible for pushing Roger moves closer "What do you say I put you out of your misery?"

Gyles rushes as a barrier in between the little kid and the other boy. "Stop this Liam," he warns him. So, his name is Liam. These guys are just kids, I don’t understand why there is so much hatred between them. It sucks that at such a young age, they could act this way.

"Ooohhh, you are fighting his battles. Did I miss something?"

"Let’s go, Roger," Gyles grabs his wrist and starts to pull him away from the other boys. The little kid remains quiet until they are far away from the other kids. They don’t follow them, somehow just the fact that Gyles is on Roger’s side, makes them cower. Okay, so this Gyles character has some balls. They don’t want to mess with him.

"Why do they hate me?" roger asks as his eyes well up.

Gyles reaches for him and wipes a drop off his cheek. My heart melts at how cute they are. They are just kids. This is innocent love and it is everything to me.

"They don’t hate you; how can they hate you when they don’t even know you?"

Roger smiles and Gyles is satisfied "I will always protect you. No one will hurt you again."

Slowly, the memory fades and I am taken somewhere else. Everything looks different. I am in the same house but this room is different from the one I saw earlier. I don’t know what is about to happen but I am curious.

The room is empty but suddenly the door opens and reveals a teenage boy. The boy looks very familiar, he almost looks like a little kid but there is a difference. There is a smile on his face, he is not skinny anymore. He looks well taken care of. Not long before the boy comes in, the door opens again and Gyles runs into the room. He jumps on the bed with a loud thud and the mattress presses at the same time rumpling the sheets.

"Are you going to come here?" he gestures with his hands for roger to come closer.

The boy who is not a little boy anymore smiles warmly as he takes slow steps towards the bed "You’ve been gone all week," he accuses slowly.

Gyles sits up on the bed and once Roger is close to him, he reaches for him and pulls him closer by his waist "I’m sorry. I came back as soon as I could."

He pulls the boy to the bed and places him on his lap. His hands are still gripping his waist. This looks like a lot more than just friendship. They are in love. I can see it in his eyes. The way he is looking at Gyles. Okay, Gyles saved him when he literally had nothing but they have formed a strong bond from that.

"Are you going to kiss me?" the older one asks.

With heavy breaths, I mean I can see the struggles in their eyes. Almost like they think what they are doing is wrong but they can’t help themselves. Slowly, they move until their lips are inches apart. As they kiss, I feel like a pervert watching them but I don’t look away. It almost feels like a movie, I am watching them as they grow and fall in love and it is beautiful.

The most beautiful love I have ever seen.

After they pull apart roger blushes "I have missed you," he mutters.

The other boy nods " I missed you too, as each day passed by, all I thought about was the day I would get to be in your arms again."

"I love you."

There is a shock ridden expression on Gyles’s face as he hears those three words blurt out of Roger’s lips. This seems to be the first time. Their expressions are evidence enough.

"I love you too," he cries almost like he has been waiting to hear those words.

They continue kissing and I turn around because I don’t belong in this story. This is their story and I am intruding. I don’t want to anymore. The more I watch this, the more I know that eventually, something bad is going to happen to them. Cassius is showing me this for a reason and I don’t want to see it.

***************************

Cassius lets go of me and I snap out of my daze. I snap out of the dream world. The world where those kids are happy. The world where there is love, where there is happiness.

"Why are you showing me this?"

He smiles almost like he was watching those memories with me. Like he was there and he showed them to me.

"I want you to see how things were before they all went to shit."

"Who is Roger, is he your kid?"

Okay, I don’t know anything that is happening but I at least deserve some answers. He can’t keep on dragging me back and forth. I am exhausted.

"You will find out."

He heads in the direction of the door and I stop him "I will not agree with you. No matter what you show me. People lose their loved ones all the time. I just fucking lost my father." I shout so loud that he turns around and there is a smile on his face. He like this reaction, he wants to see anger from me.

"Who killed your father?"

I shake my head "None of your business," I am not talking to him about Fallon. He is not going to get satisfaction from me.

"What did you do to the person that killed your father?"

I don’t want to remember my anger the day I found out. I almost killed Fallon. He deserves to die. I will do the same thing again. I will kill him if I ever get the opportunity.

"You see, you are just like me."

" I am nothing like you," I spit those words out and he laughs in amusement. He walks over to me and goes on his knees.

"You will understand soon enough why I need to do this. You will understand soon enough why your kind has to be eliminated."

He caresses my face slowly and it looks like he is deep in thought. I don’t fight back, I don’t push him away from me because I am exhausted. I don’t have any fight left in me. All through, I thought I was strong enough. I thought I could handle anything as long as I was determined but now I am not so sure anymore. No matter what I do, no matter how hard I fight, how determined I am. I always end up losing.

"I am fond of you Beau but you are one of them. I don’t think you are bad but you have to die." I almost believe his words. I know he is being sincere. This man is sick in the head. Something is going on inside his brain that I cant understand. There is so much hatred in his heart and that hatred is making him do bad things.

"I will kill you first," I don’t want to seem weak.

He likes the fighter in me because he ends up smiling as he stands up from the ground "Let’s see how that goes for you."

This time he walks out of the room and I hear the click of the lock. This is the same routine. He will feed me every two days and then feed me parts of his memories. At least I think they are his memories. I don’t know who he is in the story but I think he is the kid. Deep down I feel like he was that lost kid that was saved by Gyles.

I guess I will find out but I know he must have lost someone so important to him to have all this anger in him.

I go to the bed that is just above a small window and take a deep breath. I have only seen Lanis twice but just seeing him is enough for me. I want to see him again, so I close my eyes and think of a memory that is dear to me. I still have some energy left in me, I just have to channel that energy to finding him.

Slowly his face comes into my head and a smile forms on my lips.

Alanis
