Chapter 731

Chapter 731

After she had explained to Finnick, Vivian continued to ask Evelyn again, “Earlier, you said that you

planned the kidnapping in order to save the Morrisons. Since Finnick is here, go ahead and explain

what that means?”

“You are uttering nonsense. This woman is talking nonsense. She just wants to accuse me!” Evelyn

cried out in pain to Finnick. “I didn’t even say such a thing and what happened back then had nothing to

do with me at all.”

“Even now, you want to deny it.” After hearing Evelyn’s retort, Vivian was fuming. “I wasn’t the only one

who heard you say that. Hunter heard it as well. We heard you clearly.”

Upon hearing Vivian’s words, Hunter nodded at Finnick and said, “She did say that earlier.”

Finnick’s face darkened immediately. In the past, he believed that the kidnapping was done by Mark

alone, and he had taken revenge by sending Mark to prison. It never occurred to him that Evelyn would

be involved in the incident.

Finnick stepped forward and stared at Evelyn with darkened eyes. “How were you involved in what

happened back then? Why did you and Mark conspire to kidnap me?”

Evelyn saw Finnick trust what they said, then she tried to talk herself out of the situation in a panic

mode. “No, I did not conspire with Mark. Did you forget, Finnick? I was also kidnapped along with you.

We were so in love back then and you were my boyfriend. How could I conspire with someone else to

kidnap you?”

Evelyn was filled with resentment as she stared at Vivian and Hunter. “I didn’t say those words. It’s the

two of them who were working together to intentionally use those words against me! They already had

everything planned out before you arrived. Vivian, you’re so shameless. Not only did you seduce

Hunter, you even asked him to cooperate with your schemes. Everything I say is true, you have to

believe me Finnick. Because I love you so much, I will never harm you in any way. I swear to God.”

Seeing that Evelyn had not only refused to admit what she had said, but she also made up stories

about Hunter and her, Vivian was furious as she pointed at Evelyn and scolded, “Evelyn, stop accusing

others. Previously, you…”

Before Vivian could finish speaking, Evelyn interrupted in a stern voice, “Vivian, those words were

obviously made up by you. I have never said such a thing and you’re trying to frame me!”

While looking at Finnick with a desperate look, Evelyn continued, “Listen to me Finnick, Vivian wants to

ruin our relationship and find a way to be with you again. I even heard Hunter and her talking earlier

about how they want to steal your assets and then live abroad happily with your money. Don’t be fooled

by their lies!”

After hearing Evelyn talking more and more outrageously, Vivian couldn’t stand it anymore, and

Hunter’s face was as dark as Finnick’s.

Although he felt uneasy to see Evelyn in this state earlier, he really wanted to spit on her face and tell

her she deserved this treatment. Someone like her didn’t deserve sympathy.

Vivian took her phone out and opened Twitter, importing the pictures she had taken earlier.

Vivian pointed the screen at Evelyn with anger in her eyes and said, “Evelyn, you better be clear before

you speak. What actually happened back then? If you dare to talk nonsense again, I’ll publish these

photos right now.”

Looking at the phone screen, Evelyn panicked and cried to Finnick, “You have to believe me, Finnick.

I’m not uttering nonsense. As you can see, Vivian is threatening me. She drugged me earlier and took

photos of me as a threat! She even said that if I don’t do according to what she says, she will publicize

these photos.”

“Evelyn!” Vivian was so furious that she could not speak after hearing her retaliation. How can

someone be so shameless to this extent?

Chapter 732

Chapter 732

Finnick went and stood beside Vivian, who was shaking angrily, and gently placed his arm around her

shoulder. After that, he glared at Evelyn furiously and said, “I believe Vivian. It’s time you come clean

today and tell me what happened back then. Otherwise, I will never let you go.”

Since he had lost trust in Evelyn a long time ago, Finnick did not take what she said seriously at all.

The number of times she lied to him made it impossible for him to ever trust her again.

Evelyn broke down as soon as Finnick said that. Even after all her effort to stay clear of the kidnapping

incident, she hadn’t expected him to not believe her.

“Why don’t you believe me? What I said is true. It’s Vivian who is lying to you. Why do you believe her

and not me!” Evelyn’s heart was filled with despair. If Finnick has made up his mind not to trust me,

what else can I do to get out of this situation?

Vivian was a little touch and she looked at Finnick, who was standing beside her, she was struck by his

stern gaze—it was unlike anything she had ever seen before. He did not believe Evelyn’s words, it

would be easier to deal with her moving forward.

Vivian moved her finger to the send button and said coldly, “Evelyn, stop acting. No one is going to

believe you. If you’re still insisting not talk tell what happened back then, don’t blame me for publicizing

these photos.”

“Don’t you dare!” Evelyn saw that Vivian was about to press on the screen and she panicked. However,

she wasn’t willing to admit to her evil deed yet.

“Finnick, believe me. I…” Evelyn was still trying to convince Finnick to believe in her. If he didn’t believe

Vivian’s words, then she had nothing to be afraid of.

She suddenly stopped talking when she saw Finnick’s eyes staring at her. It was as if he was staring at

her while she was putting on a show and there was a sense of mockery in them. He doesn’t trust me,

he will never trust me again.

When Evelyn realized that, she didn’t know what to do. It was only Finnick’s trust in her that she could

rely on throughout the entire situation. What should I do now? Am I really going to allow Vivian to

publicize my naked photos?

“Are you still not going to tell the truth?” Vivian was about to press the send button. She knew that

Evelyn wouldn’t feel remorse until she was doomed. If she still insisted on not saying anything, then no

one could blame her for what she was going to do next.

After seeing Vivian was about to press on the screen, Evelyn broke down into tears and shouted, “No…

no! I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you the truth about the kidnapping back then!”

Vivian put down her phone and took a step back. “Evelyn, you better come clean and stop trying to get

away with your tricks. Otherwise, I will definitely publicize these photos.”

Vivian’s threat left Evelyn gritting her teeth with hatred. However, she had no choice but to give in.

Considering how Finnick had lost trust in her, and Vivian had the pictures, she wasn’t sure what else

she could do besides telling the truth about the situation.

As Evelyn didn’t dare look Finnick in the eye, she lowered her head in grief and cried out the truth

about the kidnapping case.

“After my parents died in an accident, my brother and I were the only Morrisons left. At that time, I was

still too young so it was only my brother handling both the company and the family. However, my

brother had little to no experience back then, that was why those directors of the Morrison Group did

not take him seriously and wanted to get the shares in my brother’s hands by all means. Furthermore,

not only did those people who were affiliated with the Morrison family not help my brother, they even

got together with the others to bully us seeing that we were young. They even wanted to take away the

Morrison family’s property.”

Having said that, Evelyn’s face was full of resentment. “Those bas*ards who only seek their own

benefit used to butter up my parents to gain advantage when the Morrison family was in its glory days.

In general, my parents treated them pretty well and gave them opportunities to make money. When the

Morrison family faced difficulties and needed their help, they all ignored us and no one offered to help!

My brother was in a very difficult situation because in addition to dealing with matters in the company,

he had to be cautious about those who claimed to be our family members. Despite this, he never

complained once and always made sure that I was living a comfortable life. As a result, I had no idea

that the Morrison family was already facing so many problems at that time.”

Chapter 733

Chapter 733

Evelyn choked as she continued talking. “My brother was the person who loved me the most and cared

for me since I was a child. He would promise me anything I asked for and carry all the burdens alone.

He has never let me suffer.”

That was why she hated Vivian in the first place. Not only had she taken away her position as the

Morrison family’s precious daughter, but she also took away her only family, the person who had cared

for her most. Without Benedict, no one would care for her that way anymore.

“However, I found out about this in the end.” Evelyn continued, “One day in school, I fought with a girl

with whom I didn’t see eye to eye but behave in front of me. However, she acted rather arrogantly

toward me that day. Not only did she say that the Morrison Group was going to file for bankruptcy very

soon, she told me that I would lose my status and the privileges. In short, I wouldn’t be able to treat her

like I used to.”

Evelyn could still remember how arrogant that girl was to her then. Every time she thought about her,

she felt compelled to go up and scratch her ugly face!

“I was very angry at that time. After having a big argument with her, I ran home and wanted to ask

Benedict about everything. However, when I arrived home, I saw him pleading and desperately talking

to someone in the living room. I tried to eavesdrop on their conversation out of curiosity. Then, I

discovered that person was an investor in the Morrison Group. After my parents passed away, he was

not sure that my brother would be able to manage the Morrison Group well, so he wanted to retract his

money. Ben tried every way to persuade him. He promised the investors he would manage Morrison

Group well and not lose their money by any means. But not only was that person not interested, but he

also said he wanted to withdraw his investments and Ben must compensate him for any breach of

contract. Until the investor left, I saw Ben sitting on the sofa alone, gazing at the effigy of my parents.

As he mumbled to himself, he said he was useless for not being able to protect his sister and the

Morrison Group.”

Evelyn said with tears streaming down her face as her emotions had been completely caught up in the

memories. The period back then in her life was definitely one of her most unforgettable experiences.

“To me, Ben was the most excellent and proud person. I have never seen him grovel to others before. I

was terrified at that moment because I realized I could no longer secure my position as the privileged

daughter of the Morrison family. In the end, I decided that no matter what method I choose, I must

restore the Morrison family to its former glory in order to maintain my lifesyle.”

Having said that, Evelyn’s eyes shone with a rare determination. In fact, she admitted that she was

more concerned about herself than Benedict or the Morrison family. In comparison with the girls around

her, her family background was the best, and she was showered with all kinds of luxury. Unfortunately,

there was a possibility of losing everything and it was something she couldn’t bear to think about.

If this was really the end of the Morrison family, who would still treat me with respect? If my future days

were going to be same as today, does that mean I will be ridiculed by those who looked down on me

before?

The mere thought of such a life drove Evelyn insane. If the Morrison family’s tragic fate was really

irreversible, she’d rather die than live such a miserable life.

As Vivian heard Evelyn’s words, she couldn’t help but feel some sadness in her heart. Without

anybody’s support back then, it must be very difficult for Benedict to support everything on his own,

right?

During those years of living with him, she was always protected from any difficulties or crises by her

brother. In addition, he took care of her in every way, never letting her suffer even the slightest bit.

However, what about those early years? Those years when he was still a teenager and had to carry

those pains, who was there to help him when he wasn’t so strong?

As she wiped away her tears with her hand, Evelyn continued, “I talked to many people without Ben’s

knowledge, but those people were either incapable of helping or unwilling to help. I went and look for all

the people I knew but I couldn’t find anyone who was willing to help my family.”

Chapter 734

Chapter 734

“It was then that I realized all my friends and those who were close to me were just bullsh*t! We would

act like we had the best relationship when things were fine and we went shopping and eating out.

When things did not go well, no one stepped forward to help and everyone ran away for fear of getting

into trouble,” Evelyn sneered.

Finnick interrupted all of a sudden. “Why didn’t you come and see me?” After hearing that, Vivian

looked at him and noticed his eyes were filled with an inexplicable emotion.

Vivian gripped her chest with her hand as she felt her heart sink. It seemed as if she had an

insurmountable block in her heart and she felt insufferable.

Could it be that Finnick still cares about Evelyn? Otherwise, why would he ask her that?

Hunter, who had been watching Vivian closely, took a step forward in fear that she might not be feeling

well when he saw her gesture.

As soon as Hunter took a step, he stopped in his tracks as something came to his mind. Then, he

smiled bitterly and then retreated back to his original position.

While Finnick and Vivian focused on listening to Evelyn, no one noticed Hunter’s hesitant movements

except for himself.

After hearing Finnick’s question, the corners of Evelyn’s lips curled up helplessly as she responded,

“Indeed. At that point, I also realized there was only one way to get the Morrison Group out of trouble,

which was to seek help from Norton Corporation. But what good would it do if I went to see you? At that

time, you and I were about the same age, you have no power, and you also did not own any shares in

Norton Corporation then. How could you help me then?”

Finnick’s eyes darkened after hearing Evelyn said that. Although he hated the despicable Evelyn now,

he had to admit that he did like her very much when he was young. Besides Samuel, she was the most

important person in his life.

He would have asked his grandfather to help the Morrison Group if she had come to him. Seeing that

his grandfather loved him very much, he would have agreed to do that.

It turned out that she had been thinking about him as a useless rich kid at the time who was not

cognizant enough for her to ask for help.

“So you went and asked for help from Mark?” Vivian asked immediately. Is this why they conspired to

kidnap Finnick?

As she avoided looking at Finnick, Evelyn’s voice trembled as she said, “Yes, I had no choice but to go

and see Mark. He was the only one who could help me back then, and he was the only one who was

willing to do so. Norton Corporation and Morrison Group’s collaboration would give Morrison Group a

chance to make a comeback again.”

After a short pause, Evelyn’s eyes were filled with mockery as she continued, “However, I also knew

that Mark would not help me for nothing. No one would help me for nothing as everyone has their own

interests in mind. No one will do anything that is not in their own interest.”

“So what did you promise him?” While clenching his fists, Finnick’s veins became visible on his

forehead as he asked furiously. He knew what she was going to say next, but he wasn’t ready to

accept it as the truth. How could they do that!

Evelyn, whose eyes were filled with tears, couldn’t bear to look at Finnick’s expression any longer, then

she lowered her head and mumbled, “So… so I made a deal with Mark. I told him that as long as he

can help the Morrison family get out of the difficult situation; I will help him get rid of the thorn in his

heart, which was you, his own brother.”

Evelyn raised her head and explained frantically, “Finnick, the reason I said that at that time was just to

coax him. It was never my intention to cause you any harm, so please trust me! It was just a matter of

coaxing him to save the Morrisons in dire strait.”

Actually, Finnick was mentally prepared when he heard Vivian mention that Evelyn and Mark planned

the kidnapping case together. However, he wasn’t able to hold back the shock and grief in him the

moment he heard Evelyn’s confession.

Despite the two of us being madly in love with each other, Evelyn could even go to such great lengths

as to sacrifice my life in order to save the Morrisons and to maintain her status.

Chapter 735

Chapter 735

He was devoted to Evelyn that time and treated her as the closest person to him. He never hide

anything from her because he trusted her fully and adored her.

Growing up, Mark never liked him and he knew it since he was not a dimwit. Every time he saw other

siblings living harmoniously together, he couldn’t help but feel sad and expressed his feelings to

Evelyn. It never occurred to him that Evelyn would take advantage of his trust and use him as a

bargaining chip against Mark.

No matter how much love he gave her throughout the years, it meant nothing to her. She would even

betray the relationship they had for many years so easily. The most absurd thing was that he didn’t

even notice after all these years.

“As you said earlier Evelyn, you like Finnick a lot. If you really did like him, how could you do such a

cruel thing to him!”

After hearing Evelyn’s confession about her conspiring with Mark, Vivian couldn’t help but shout angrily

at her. In her opinion, she believed that wealth was something that could be earned but not forced.

Considering how precious human life is, why would anyone sacrifice another person’s life for some

selfish means?

Upon hearing that, Evelyn laughed uncontrollably as her face was drenched in tears. “Vivian, what do

you know? Have you ever had the experience when everything around you falls apart, have you ever

gone through that before! If I hadn’t done that, I would lose my status as the privileged daughter of the

Morrison family. Then, how could I be with Finnick? I did that because I loved him!”

“You need to kill him because you loved him?” Vivian scoffed at such absurdity. “Evelyn, don’t you think

what you just said is absolutely ridiculous?”

“Of course, a low-life like you wouldn’t be able to understand any of that!” Evelyn argued with an

agitated expression. “Finnick is the heir to the Norton Corporation. In the event that Morrison Group

were to go bankrupt, what would become of me and my family? Will the Nortons approve of our

relationship? As long as I can keep my status as the proud daughter of Morrisons, we would have a

chance at being together forever!”

While staring at Evelyn in disbelief, Vivian was at a loss for words. I don’t understand how someone’s

logic can be so twisted to this degree. At the end of the day, she cared more about herself than Finnick.

In spite of this, she refused to admit it to herself and chose to call it ‘love’ instead.

“Keep talking.” Finnick stared at Evelyn nonchalantly while he said that. No one could tell what he was

thinking.

“Finnick, I really do love you but it was impossible for me to just watch the Morrisons ruined without

doing anything. Therefore, I chose to work with Mark. However, I swear to God that I didn’t intend to put

your life at risk. I was only lying to Mark when I said those things to him. I was just thinking…”

Since she was not able to decipher Finnick’s expressions, Evelyn came up with a range of excuses.

Before she could continue explaining, Finnick interrupted her.

“Keep talking!” Finnick exclaimed impatiently as his tone rose, interspersed with rage. You didn’t intend

to put my life at risk? That’s a nice way to spin it. I was lucky to be able to escape from that. Who would

she say that to if things turned out badly!

Now, I want to hear how my own brother and my ex-girlfriend conspired to harm me in detail.

Evelyn’s heart was filled with fear as she trembled after hearing Finnick’s words. After so many years

with Finnick, she knew that this time things were different from the past, and she was afraid that he

would not let her off so easily.

Evelyn’s entire body trembled, then she bit her lips, cleared her throat and said, “After Mark gave me

his word, he asked me to find a way to bring you somewhere far so that he could get someone to

kidnap you.”

Evelyn took a quick glance at Finnick and she panicked. “During that time when we went out for fun,

Mark sent some people to follow us and waited for an opportunity to attack.”

After hearing that, Finnick clenched his fists so tight that his joints started to crack. He also

remembered that Evelyn’s mood during that time was not very good as well. However, when he asked

her about it, she refused to tell him anything.

Chapter 736

Chapter 736

Later that day, she said that she was bored and wanted to have some fun, so he agreed immediately

and drove her to the suburbs with him.

But in the end, this was all just a trap waiting to get sprung on him.

Vivian lowered her head and glanced at Finnick’s hand when she heard a cracking sound. It wasn’t

clear if he was shocked or angry, but his hand was trembling slightly. After a moment of hesitation, she

reached out and grabbed his hand.

After so many years, the truth is finally out. To find out that he was betrayed and hurt by the person he

used to trust the most, his heart must be aching really bad right now.

With the warmth emanating from her hand, Finnick was finally able to relax his tense body. He turned

around to look at the worried Evelyn while he tried to calm himself down. Then, he grasped Vivian’s

hand to reassure her that he was fine.

Hunter’s eyes darkened as he looked at the two hands clasped together in front of him. Evelyn, whose

head was down, did not see the interaction between the two. As she continued explaining what

happened back then, her voice still trembled.

“After that, you knew what happened. Mark told the kidnappers to drug us, tie us up, and take us to that

broken warehouse.” Having said that, Evelyn looked up cautiously at Finnick and she was shocked to

see both of them holding hands.

Evelyn felt infuriated as jealousy replaced fear in her eyes. Although she worked so hard over the

years, in the end, it was another woman who benefited and was to marry Finnick.

As Vivian saw Evelyn’s expression change, she also realized that something was wrong. Then, she

hurriedly retracted her hand Finnick was holding on to. After regaining her composure, Vivian asked,

“During my investigation five years ago, I discovered that you left the fire scene alone. What about

that?”

Evelyn’s resentment towards Vivian increased when she heard Vivian’s question. Why does she

deliberately ask me so many questions? Is she trying to ruin my relationship with Finnick completely?

As Evelyn saw Finnick’s ice-cold look, she knew she had no choice but to answer at that moment. “I, I

wasn’t really drugged and I was conscious back then. Mark told those people to pretend to kidnap me.

Thus, I was able to untie myself easily and leave the scene.”

“Then, you left Finnick all alone there!” Vivian was furious and shocked after hearing Evelyn’s words.

“Didn’t you say you had no intention of hurting him previously? Do you know how dangerous it was to

leave a person alone in that situation? It’s obvious you were trying to get him killed!”

Finnick was touched when he heard Vivian was full of rage over Evelyn’s statement. Since she is so

angry because of me, does that mean she still cares deeply for me?

The thought of that made Finnick feel utterly regretful. Five years ago, Vivian told him that she

suspected Evelyn had escaped the fire scene on her own. However, not only did he not trust her, he

even thought that she was trying to frame Evelyn because she was jealous and envious of her.

Come to think of it, if I had believed her and investigate extensively on that matter back then, then the

truth would have come to light sooner and we wouldn’t have to separate for so many years.

“I did not.” Evelyn denied frantically, then she turned to Finnick and said, “Finnick, you have to trust me.

I didn’t intend to hurt you. It was Mark, I never thought he would be so relentless. I even untied your

rope when I was leaving because I was worried you’ll be in danger. I didn’t want you to die!”

“Since your intention was just to cause me harm, why did you pretend to be dead and went abroad?”

Finnick said coldly while ignoring Evelyn’s useless explanation.

“I… I…” Evelyn’s eyes darted everywhere as she struggled to speak.

“Why!” Finnick’s voice grew louder as he asked his question a second time. His body emitted a

massive aura that filled the room.

“It’s Mark!” As she was frightened by Finnick, Evelyn pushed all the blame to Mark. “Mark was afraid

that people would start investigating this matter, so he told me to pretend to be dead and go abroad.

He… he even gave me a huge sum of money so I wouldn’t tell anyone and to never come back again.”

Chapter 737

Chapter 737

Even so, Evelyn felt guilty and didn’t dare to look at Finnick. In reality, she was the one who came up

with the idea of pretending to be dead and going abroad to avoid being investigated. She came up with

that idea so that Mark would promise her as soon as possible.

She also used this as a reason to blackmail Mark. Therefore, not only did she take all the money given

by the Nortons to save Finnick, but Mark also gave her a few millions of his own funds. She would be

able to live a life of luxury abroad with so much money.

“So who told you to come back?” Finnick’s eyebrows twitched as his face was filled with anger. They

could sacrifice my life without hesitation for the sake of money and power. I feel sad for the young

Finnick back then.

“I came back for you,” Evelyn said tearfully. “Finnick, after I went abroad, I realized how important you

were to me. It was impossible for me to forget you or to let go of our relationship. Throughout all these

years, I have kept an eye on you. As soon as I learned you were married, I couldn’t hold it in any

longer, so I came back.”

Evelyn reached out to pull Finnick, but he dodged her. Then, she began crying more ferociously. “I

really love you, Finnick. Even though so many years have passed, I still love you and have you at

heart. I love you a thousand times more than Vivian, without you, I can’t live at all.”

As Evelyn felt her hand regaining strength, she wheeled herself in front of Finnick and wanted to throw

herself at him.

“Finnick, we have spent many years growing up together. No one knows you better than I do, and no

one suits you better than me. So let’s get back together, alright? Our life will be like how it used to be,

with a lot of love and joy. Why don’t we get married? I will…”

“Enough!” As he pushed away Evelyn’s hand, Finnick’s face was fill with hatred. “Evelyn, I’m really

disgusted by you!”

“What? What did you say to me, Finnick?” After hearing his words, Evelyn was utterly shocked as she

couldn’t believe what she had just heard. It’s impossible for Finnick to say that to me.

“I said I’m disgusted by what you’ve just said.” As he glared coldly at Evelyn, Finnick repeated his

words slowly.

Disgusted? Finnick’s words instantly paralyzed Evelyn’s body. She felt as if her entire strength was

drained and the fantasy she held in her heart suddenly vanished into thin air.

“I made you feel disgusted, I actually made you feel disgusted…” Evelyn was lost in thought and in

tears as she repeated her words.

As Evelyn stared blankly at Finnick, her emotions took over, and she started shouting at him, “How can

you say that to me? I love you so much that I gave up everything I had abroad to come back to you. I

lost my family, both my legs and my job because of you. There is nothing left for me. How can you treat

me like this!”

“You have brought all these upon yourself, don’t blame anything on me!” Finnick said sternly, “If you

didn’t do all those harmful things to Vivian back then, how would you end up being in such a situation?

Am I the one who had wronged you after everything that had happened!”

“But I really love you,” Evelyn screamed as tears rolled down her cheeks. While her eyes filled with

desperation, her body leaned toward Finnick.

“I did all those things because I love you, Finnick. All I wanted was for you to come back to me. We

were so in love with each other, so why did you marry someone else? How can you end up with

someone else suddenly! Finnick, I love you. You have to believe that I really love you. Let’s get back

together again, alright? Vivian is not worthy of you at all and I’m the only one who understands you. I

will treat you well for the rest of my life, so why can’t we be together again like how we used to? I…”

Vivian couldn’t bear to listen to Evelyn anymore, so she interrupted her abruptly. “You are not in love

with him at all, you’re just doing it for selfish reasons. Compared to Finnick, you care more about fame

and wealth, right?”

Chapter 738

Chapter 738

“Shut up, Vivian!” Evelyn turned to look at her. Then, she pointed at her and scolded her furiously.

“What do you know? How could you say that I don’t love Finnick? When we were together, you weren’t

even in the picture! We went to school and grew up together. He loves me and I love him too. The time

we spent together was amazing. Who are you to come between us and mess things up!”

After hearing Evelyn’s words, Finnick felt his rage bubbling from within once more. Just when he was

about to ask her to shut up, Vivian had already voiced up with a tone full of rage.

“If you really like him, why were you so cruel and conspire with others to harm him? In addition, you

even said you needed to keep your status as the Morrison’s privileged daughter to be with him forever.

Then, why did you pretend to be dead, go abroad and left him alone in the country?”

“I, I…” Evelyn was suddenly at a loss for words, but after taking a moment to gather her thoughts, she

replied, “However, I came back after that. And the reason for my return was because of Finnick. I love

him! I told you earlier that I was just trying to coax Mark and that was why I went abroad. I’ve been

trying to find ways to come back and my heart is always with Finnick.”

Upon hearing that, Vivian smiled coldly and said, “Evelyn, don’t you think your excuse is ridiculous?

Ultimately, you only love yourself. Have you ever wondered what would happen if Finnick did not

escape from the fire? He could have been burned to death!”

“He won’t!” Evelyn retorted loudly, “I untied his rope and I didn’t want him to die. I just wanted to save

the Morrison family. I…”

“How can you guarantee that Finnick would be able to escape just because you untied his rope!” Vivian

asked sternly, “Did you even think of his safety when you flee the scene without him?”

After taking a deep breath, Vivian sneered as she glared at Evelyn. “Throughout these years, you said

you have kept an eye on Finnick, correct? Alright then. Let me ask you this question. Since you’ve

been getting news about him, you must have known about the disability on both his legs. Why did you

not come back and take care of him at that time? Why did you only come back after finding out that he

was pretending to be disabled?”

“Back then, I…” Evelyn was so perplexed by the question that she was unable to answer it.

“Evelyn, the reason why you say you love Finnick now is because he has become successful, and you

cannot give up on such a good support. If Finnick was not in charge of Norton Corporation and Finnor

Group now, would you still come back if his legs were really disabled? Would you still say that you like

him?” Vivian questioned Evelyn indignantly.

Evelyn was stunned when she heard Vivian’s questions. Initially, she was mad the moment she heard

that Finnick had gotten married, especially since she knew he had married someone of average birth

and appearance. Though she was mad then, she wondered why she had not thought about returning.

Evelyn considered this question in her heart, but dared not think any further about it. No, I’m not that

kind of person. I admit that I do care a lot about fame and wealth, but I love Finnick. I really love him. I

didn’t have a single boyfriend when I was abroad for so many years because I couldn’t forget him.

With the thought of that in mind, Evelyn regained her composure and screamed at Vivian, “Yes! I will

still like him! Vivian, you don’t understand the bond Finnick and I have. Since we have been together so

many years, how could you know how much we love each other? You don’t know anything, so what

gives you the right to say that about me!”

“I don’t want to know either.” Vivian didn’t want to listen to Evelyn anymore after hearing her

meaningless words, since reasoning with someone like that was pointless.

Vivian pulled out her phone and planned to contact the police. Evelyn had already confessed that she

conspired with Mark regarding the kidnapping back then, and Hunter and Finnick had also heard about

it. With all the evidence in hand, she was going to make Evelyn pay for the crimes she had committed

in the past.

Just as she was pressing on her phone, they suddenly heard someone banging on the door. Vivian,

Finnick and Hunter looked at each other and shook their heads, as they weren’t expecting anyone to

show up at this time.

With her eyebrows creased deeply, Vivian was just about to step forward to open the room door when

Finnick pulled her back and pushed her behind him. “We don’t know who’s in there yet, so let me open

the door instead.”

After saying that, he strode right up and opened the room door. When Vivian saw the person in the

room after he’d forced the door open, her frown deepened. Why is she here?

The moment Rachel saw that the door was opened, she shoved Finnick away and dashed into the

room, her gaze darting everywhere. Noticing that Evelyn was indeed in there, she quickly rushed

forward and shielded her.

“Vivian, Evelyn didn’t do it deliberately, so don’t take offense at her, okay?” Rachel implored Vivian

fervently on behalf of Evelyn.

As Evelyn stared at the person standing in front of her with arms spread, a burst of joy infused her. I

didn’t harbor any hope of surviving after Vivian coerced me to tell the truth about the incident back

then, but never had I thought that even God would help me, and Rachel actually turned up at this time!

All at once, she sobbed and whimpered in a hoarse voice, “Ms. Rachel… Ms. Rachel… I…”

Rachel turned around and bent down before wiping the tears off Evelyn’s face. Then, she hugged her

and comforted her, her voice choking as she reassured, “Everything will be fine. You’re fine now,

Evelyn. Don’t be afraid. With me here, I’ll definitely protect you. I won’t allow anyone to hurt you.”

After coaxing Evelyn for a while as though she were a kid, she whirled around and dropped to her

knees before Vivian. “Vivian, Evelyn is indeed at fault this time, so I apologize on her behalf. Please

forgive her this time and not take offense at her, won’t you? I beg you.”

Flustered at her sudden act of kneeling, Vivian hurried forward to pull her up. “Get up first. What are

you doing on the ground?”

However, Rachel grasped her hands and wailed, “Vivian, please let Evelyn go for my sake, okay? She

didn’t do it deliberately, and I apologize on her behalf. I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Vivian. Just forgive her, won’t

you? I’m not getting up if you don’t agree.”

As Vivian listened to her pleading, a trickle of puzzlement crept into her amidst her alarm. She probably

isn’t aware that Evelyn helped Mark to kidnap Finnick back then, so why is she begging me for mercy?

All at once, the incident that transpired earlier flashed across her mind, and she remembered how

Rachel seemed to have something to tell her yet hesitated when she bid her farewell in the kitchen.

As understanding abruptly dawned, she pursed her lips. Staring at Rachel in disbelief, she asked, “You

knew that Evelyn poisoned me when we were eating, didn’t you?”

“It couldn’t have been deliberate on her part!” Rachel hastily blurted. “Vivian, she’s still young and

guileless, so just regard it as a prank. Don’t take it to heart.”

Upon hearing this, Vivian didn’t quite know whether she should blow her top or burst out laughing. A

prank? She actually said that it was a prank! Do I simply hold no importance to her?

Her entire being emanated sorrow as her heart turned chilly.

“You realized that Evelyn poisoned me when I ate at your house, didn’t you?” she questioned,

emphasizing every single word. “That’s why you were holding back something when I left. Why didn’t

you tell me immediately? Were you not at all worried that something would happen to me?”

“I… I didn’t mean that. Vivian, I was merely worried… I was worried…” Rachel didn’t know how to

answer her, for she could naturally sense her grief. Thus, she couldn’t bring herself to say that she was

worried that Vivian would make Evelyn pay.

But even if she didn’t say it, Vivian could guess her meaning. Why else would she do that if not for

Evelyn Morrison’s sake?

“You were worried that I’d make Evelyn pay, yes?” she queried with red-rimmed eyes, tears finally

streaming down her cheeks.

Gazing at her with eyes brimming with guilt, Rachel murmured, “I know this isn’t fair to you, and I

should’ve told you at that time, Vivian. I apologize to you. I’m sorry. It’s on me. Everything is my fault,

so take it out on me if you’re angry. Don’t take offense at Evelyn, okay?”

“Did you know what poison she used on me?” In the next moment, she roared in an enraged voice,

“You were only worried that I’d make her pay, but had you ever considered what would have happened

to me? Did you know that if Finnick hadn’t sent me to the hospital in time, I might have… have…”

Vivian couldn’t quite continue as tears suddenly assailed her.

This isn’t the first time. She has chosen to sacrifice me time and again when it came down to a choice

between me and Evelyn. Even if I’m not her biological daughter, she raised me. How could she

disregard me like this?

Upon hearing that, the guilt within Rachel doubled, and she even started prostrating herself. As she did

that, she sobbed, “I wronged you, Vivian. It’s all on me, so just take it out on me. Revisit whatever

retribution you want on me, but please have mercy on Evelyn and let her go, won’t you?”

As Vivian looked down at her hair that was streaked with white, her tears flowed all the swifter. She

hastily bent down and stopped her bodily, trying hard to help her up.

However, Rachel kept herself on the ground and simply refused to get up. “Vivian, promise me to let

Evelyn go, won’t you? I won’t get up unless you promise. I’ll continue kneeling until you agree.”

Upon seeing this, Finnick, who was at the side, promptly went forward to lend a hand. This is simply

preposterous!

When Rachel saw that Vivian was merely helping her up while crying yet reluctant to forgive Evelyn,

she begged Finnick instead. “Finnick, help me persuade Vivian and ask her to forgive Evelyn, won’t

you?”

“Rachel, this matter is very complicated. Neither Vivian nor I will ever forgive Evelyn, so you should just

get up first,” Finnick urged as he pulled her up. “Get up, and we’ll talk about this slowly.”

Nevertheless, Rachel was all the more adamant to stay on her knees. “Please have mercy and let her

go. I promise to keep a close eye on her in the future so that she can never again interfere in your

relationship. Just live your lives and stop pursuing her past mistakes, won’t you?”

Neither Finnick nor Vivian spoke, merely exerting greater force to yank her up. Neither of us will ever

forgive and take mercy on Evelyn for everything she’d done throughout the years!

With their combined strength, they finally managed to haul her up before dragging her over to the sofa

for a seat. Nonetheless, Rachel refused to give up, begging them for forgiveness as she clutched at

them fervently.

As Evelyn looked on at the situation before her, panic inevitably assailing her. It looks like they’re

determined to have me pay since they’re both unwilling to relent despite Rachel having begged them

for such a long time!

When she thought about the consequences she might face, her terror grew as she mulled it over. Will I

end up like Mark? No! I don’t want that! Panic flashed in her eyes, and she racked her brains for a way

to get herself out of this.

Meanwhile, just as Vivian was still at a loss in the face of Rachel’s tearful pleading, she suddenly heard

Hunter shouting, “What are you trying to do, Evelyn?”

The moment they heard his bellow, the three of them promptly snapped their heads back, only to see

Evelyn struggling in the wheelchair, seemingly trying her best to escape. However, her legs tripped her

up, and her head slammed into the corner of the coffee table at the side. Blood immediately gushed

out, creating an exceedingly terrifying sight.

“Evelyn!” Upon seeing this, Rachel no longer bothered to beg for mercy. Scrambling up, she

stumblingly rushed over to Evelyn and pulled her into her embrace.

At the sight of the blood all over her daughter’s face, she didn’t know what to do for a moment. She

wanted to reach out and wipe the blood off, yet she was also afraid that it’d aggravate her wound.

Hugging Evelyn carefully, she broke down in tears. “Are you okay, Evelyn? Oh God, Evelyn, please

don’t scare me. Open your eyes and look at me. Please be okay.”

However, Evelyn had already fallen unconscious at this time, so she couldn’t hear Rachel, much less

respond to her.

“I’ll bring you to the hospital right away! You’ll be fine, Evelyn. You must hold on. I don’t want to live

either if something happens to you!” Rachel howled as she wept, trying her best to carry Evelyn up.
