Chapter 741

Chapter 741

However, Rachel had just been discharged from the hospital, and she was weak in the first place, so

she couldn’t possibly carry Evelyn.

Upon seeing this, Vivian likewise hurried over to Evelyn. When she saw that the wound on her head

was still gushing blood, a faint sense of fear pervaded her, and she worried that Evelyn might not have

much time left.

While she felt that death was a fitting punishment for Evelyn after having done so many grievous

things, this shouldn’t be the way. She’ll naturally be punished for her crimes by the law in the future!

“Don’t move her for the time being. Let’s call an ambulance first.” Vivian stopped Rachel from carrying

her up, whipping out her phone and swiftly making a call to the hospital.

After explaining the situation and giving the location to the medical personnel, she then hung up the

phone. Subsequently, she wanted to take a closer look at Evelyn’s wound, but Rachel unexpectedly

shoved her away.

At this time, Rachel no longer bothered imploring her for mercy. Gripping by worry for Evelyn, she

arbitrarily snapped, “Go away! Are you happy now that Evelyn has fallen unconscious? This is exactly

what you wanted, no?”

As Vivian fell to the ground at the forceful shove, she felt a bolt of excruciating pain in her arm.

Aggravation instantly flooded her. How could she blame me for this?

Seeing that, Finnick hastily rushed forward and helped her up. When he glimpsed the injury on her

arm, his expression inexorably turned chilly.

“This isn’t Vivian’s fault, for Evelyn merely reaped what she sowed. If she hadn’t harbored the intention

to harm someone else, would such a thing have happened? She schemed and sabotaged Vivian time

and again. Don’t tell me you want Vivian to just indulge her?”

Rachel was entirely petrified by the wound on Evelyn’s head at this moment, her entire person held

captive by terror and worry. Hence, she paid his words no mind and even instinctively retorted, “Isn’t

Vivian just fine? When had Evelyn ever managed to truly hurt her?”

When Vivian heard this, the pain in her arm paled in comparison to the agony within her, and even

Finnick shook slightly from fury.

I’ve always respected her a lot since she’s Vivian’s elder, but this time, she has truly gone too far! She’s

not worthy of my respect!

Tears swam in her eyes as Vivian gently broke away from Finnick and walked to the side, not in the

mood to say anything else. Finnick knew that she was anguished, but he couldn’t think of anything to

comfort her.

Noticing the graze on Vivian’s arm, Hunter quickly took out the first-aid kit in his house and walked over

to her. “Let’s go over to the sofa and have a seat, Vivian. I’ll doctor your wound,” he murmured softly.

Finnick went over and led her to the sofa with an arm wrapped around her shoulder. Then, he took the

first-aid kit from Hunter with his other hand. “I’ll do it.”

As Hunter stared at his bare hands after having the first-aid kit “snatched away,” he couldn’t help

clenching his fists. However, he knew that Vivian’s injury took precedence now, so he didn’t say

anything, merely suppressing the rage that kept rising within him.

Vivian, on the other hand, hadn’t the mental capacity to notice all that at this moment. She sat on the

sofa quietly, allowing Finnick to help bandage her wound.

Despite continually telling herself not to take it to heart, persuading herself that Rachel definitely didn’t

mean it and was merely anxious, Rachel’s pain-filled wails of “Evelyn! Evelyn!” kept drifting into her

ears. In the end, she could no longer keep her tears at bay.

I thought she loved me this much as well. I still remember that I once accidentally tipped over the bowl

when I was young, spilling hot soup on myself whereupon blisters formed on my hand from the burn.

At that time, she was so distressed that tears streamed down her cheeks, and she hurriedly brought

me to the hospital. On our way back after having my burn treated, she cradled me tenderly and blew on

my injury lightly.

To coax me to stop crying, she even bought many candies she was usually reluctant to buy. Back then,

I truly felt that she was the best mother in the world.

As Vivian recalled Rachel shoving her to the side with eyes teeming with resentment, bewilderment

engulfed her. Why did our relationship turn sour ever since Evelyn’s appearance?

Chapter 742

Chapter 742

Finnick was carefully bandaging Vivian’s injury when he suddenly sensed a droplet splashing on his

arm. When he looked up, he saw that she was silently crying, tears streaming down her face like a

faucet.

Meticulously tying the bandage, he then got up and sat down beside Vivian, holding her close to him in

silent consolation.

In no time, the ambulance arrived. The medical personnel transported Evelyn onto the stretcher and

sent her to the hospital for treatment.

As Rachel stared at the light that remained lit above the operating theater, she was restless, afraid that

something would happen to Evelyn. When she spotted Vivian and the other two people who tagged

along, she couldn’t help venting her anger on them. Of course, her main target was Vivian.

“You’re happy now, huh?” Pointing a finger at Vivian, she castigated her, snarling, “I truly don’t

understand why you won’t let Evelyn go! Yes, she did something bad to you, but you’re obviously fine.

Why must you still pursue the matter?”

“You can’t say that, Ms. Rachel.” At the side, Hunter could no longer keep his silence. “This time, it’s

entirely Evelyn’s fault that she ended up in such a state. It was her who had me trick Vivian into the

house, and she even wanted to poison Vivian again to kill her. I truly can’t bear to aid and abet her

anymore, so I told Vivian about it and reminded her to be careful. Otherwise, it’d be Vivian whose life is

hanging in the balance now.”

Upon hearing this, Finnick’s gaze darkened dangerously. Kill Vivian? Evelyn is truly growing

increasingly audacious! When she regains consciousness, I must figure out a way to eliminate her!

Meanwhile, Rachel was stunned for a moment before she shook her head resolutely, not at all

believing Hunter. “Nonsense! My Evelyn is the kindest person, so how could she possibly do that? She

did something wrong in the past because she didn’t know better, but she’ll never kill someone. Stop

slandering her here!”

The more Vivian heard from her, the harder her heart clenched.

I just want to protect myself and uphold justice for myself when Evelyn attempted to kill me, yet she’s

already this distressed, acting as though I’ve done something grievous to Evelyn! I’m not the one in the

wrong!

I never hoped that she’d side with me and feel sorry for me. Rather, I merely hoped that she’d view the

matter between me and Evelyn objectively instead of blaming me indiscriminately and defending

Evelyn blindly. But from the look of things now, even that was too much to hope for!

To her, everything Evelyn does is for a reason and can be forgiven. For God’s sake, she doesn’t even

suspect her! If Evelyn truly succeeded in killing me this time, she’d certainly choose to help her keep it

a secret! Compared to a biological daughter, an adopted daughter is nothing, after all!

At this time, Rachel was still rebutting Hunter’s words emotionally. “I know all of you dislike Evelyn, but

you can’t defame her like this! If she were truly this malicious, she wouldn’t have donated her bone

marrow to me back then! You claim that she wanted to kill Vivian, but Vivian is safe and sound! Instead,

it’s her…”

As she spoke, her eyes turned red. “Instead, it’s her who’s in the operating theater now. If anything

happens to her, I’ll never let you off the hook!”

When Vivian heard this, a wave of bitterness swept across her. What does she mean by not letting me

off the hook? Is she planning to have me pay with my life if something truly happens to Evelyn?

Despite being a renowned attorney, even Hunter was rendered speechless upon hearing this. In the

meantime, Rachel was currently immersed in her own subjective world, so other people’s words had

zero effect on her. While it was true that parents loved their children, this was simply too much.

As Vivian listened to Rachel weeping ceaselessly at the side, begging God to save Evelyn with her

hands clasped, she couldn’t even begin to describe her feelings at this time.

At this precise moment, she felt a blanket of warmth enveloping her hand. Turning to the side, she saw

that it was Finnick holding her hand beside her.

Clutching her hand tightly, Finnick gazed at her with worry in his eyes. “It’s fine, for you still have me.”

Chapter 743

Chapter 743

As Vivian stared into Finnick’s sincere gaze, a burst of warmth finally bloomed in her frosted heart. The

corners of her lips curved into a smile to indicate that she was fine. She was no longer sad now, merely

having some feelings within her which she couldn’t quite describe.

About two hours later, the light above the operating theater finally went off. The moment the doctor

came out, Rachel rushed forward with anxiety and fear written all over her face. “How did it go, doctor?

Is my daughter okay?”

“She’s fine. The operation was very successful, so she’ll be fine after resting for a few days. The nurse

will tell you the specifics later.” The doctor was exhausted after performing the operation, so he pivoted

and left after saying that.

Upon hearing that Evelyn was fine, the anxiety on Rachel’s face finally eased, and her heart that’d

been in her throat settled back in her chest.

Perhaps she was too tense earlier that her body couldn’t quite take it when her nerves suddenly

relaxed, and she actually fainted right away.

At this, Vivian hurriedly called a few nurses over, and they swiftly carried her to the adjacent room to

rest. Finnick, on the other hand, made arrangements for Evelyn.

When Vivian saw the nurse putting Rachel on an IV drip, she heaved a sigh and left the hospital room.

In the past, I definitely would’ve stayed until she woke up, but now… A wry smile tugged at her lips,

and she couldn’t help mocking herself. Now, I really don’t know how to face her. Besides, she probably

doesn’t want to see me when she wakes up.

Just after she’d walked out of the hospital room, she caught sight of Noah in the corridor, asking the

nurse something or other with an anxious expression on his face.

Is he here to look for Finnick? As this thought occurred to her, she called out, “Over here, Noah!”

Noah turned around upon hearing someone call out to him. He was stunned for a moment, seemingly

having not expected to see her here. Thereafter, he promptly strode in her direction.

“Is Mr. Norton here, Mrs. Norton? He called me earlier and asked me to come over to the hospital, but

he didn’t tell me what happened. Don’t tell me he’s injured?”

Vivian chuckled upon hearing that. Then, she replied, “He’s fine. It’s Evelyn who’s injured.”

“Evelyn?” Noah frowned. “What exactly happened?”

The woman hesitated for a moment, uncertain whether she should tell him about everything. But upon

remembering that he was the person Finnick trusted most, she told him the truth about the kidnapping

back then and repeated everything Evelyn admitted.

“It was her?” Shock swamped Noah after he learned the truth.

He knew better than anyone how malevolent Evelyn was. But never had he expected her to be so cruel

and ruthless even at such a tender age. It’s truly horrifying if I were to dwell upon it!

Gazing into Vivian’s trustful eyes, he felt utterly conflicted. Should I tell her the truth about what

happened five years ago? Evelyn is an extremely evil person, so she should’ve long since received her

due punishment. Am I really going to help keep all those misdeeds she’d done in the past a secret

forever?

While looking at her remorsefully, he couldn’t help apologizing. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Norton. I shouldn’t have

done that to you five years ago. I… I…”

The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he lacked the courage to come clean about the incident

back then.

Meanwhile, Vivian’s gaze darkened upon hearing this. She still couldn’t forget the scene when Noah

brought along men to force her to have an abortion five years ago. Every time she recalled the despair

she felt, she couldn’t convince herself to forgive Finnick. How can I forgive him when he once treated

me so callously?

This matter was a gulf that stood between them. Despite him treating me no different from before – his

concern and protectiveness tangible, I just can’t bring myself to bridge the gulf without any qualms.

Inhaling deeply, she forced a smile. “You did nothing wrong in this matter. Back then, you were merely

following orders, so if we’re assigning blame, it could only be Finnick’s fault. It wasn’t your fault, so you

don’t have to apologize anymore in the future.”

Chapter 744

Chapter 744

With that, Vivian spun on her heels and left. Tears welled up in her eyes. She wanted to give Larry a

family, but it was really difficult to let go of the past.

Noah stood there silently as Vivian stalked away. He could sense her anguish.

Silently, he chided himself. Mrs. Norton has never blamed me for that incident. But I’m a coward for not

telling her the truth. Mr. and Mrs. Norton led separate lives for years even though they still love each

other because of me. This won’t do!

Guilt consumed his entire being. As his hands clenched into fists, Noah decided to reveal the truth this

time.

Vivian plopped down onto a bench in exhaustion. Noah’s sudden appearance reminded her of the

terrible past. She couldn’t help but reconsider her current relationship with Finnick.

She had already decided to accept Finnick to give Larry the perfect family. After all, Larry obviously

wanted a father, and Finnick was courting her again. There was no need to dwell on the past.

However, the moment she bumped into Noah, she realized she had overestimated herself. The past

incident had left a thorn in her heart. On normal days, she could ignore it, but once something triggered

it, the excruciating pain would attack her once again. It was too unbearable.

If I end up with Finnick again, can I forget everything and live happily after going back and living with

him? She questioned herself.

However, she wasn’t sure of it as there was no guarantee. Besides, if they split up in the future, it would

bring more harm to Larry.

Vivian took a deep breath and exhaled sharply. Her mind was in a muddle.

Forget it. She shook her head. There’s no need to ponder over it. Nothing will come out of it, anyway. I

should talk to Finnick to sort things out before coming up with a decision.

Rising to her feet, she went to the ward to see if Evelyn had regained consciousness. At the door, she

heard Evelyn’s voice rang out. Hmm? Is she talking to someone else?

Curious, Vivian stopped outside and saw Finnick standing in front of Evelyn’s bed with his back to her.

Evelyn was wailing and begging for his forgiveness.

“I’m really sorry for what I did back then, Finnick. Please forgive me this once, alright? Please! I

promise I’ll never repeat my mistake again,” pleaded Evelyn as she tugged on his sleeves pitifully.

Finnick shoved her away as disdain flashed across his face. “Evelyn, I never expected you to be

involved in my kidnapping. Do you really think I can forgive you? Hell, no! If you weren’t hurt, I would’ve

sent you to jail!”

“No! How could you do this to me?” Evelyn gripped the railing on her bed and howled. “I know I was

wrong. I acted rashly back then. But, I did it for my family! I couldn’t stand aside and do nothing as my

family collapse, could I?”

“So you did nothing and watch as me descending into hell?” Finnick burst out angrily. The hatred in his

voice was evident.

He felt like a fool when he found out the truth after so many years. Back then, he thought Evelyn’s

death was all his fault. If he hadn’t brought her to the countryside to let some steam off, his beloved

wouldn’t have lost her life at a young age.

Finnick was wrecked with guilt and despair. The incident tormented him so badly to the point he

couldn’t sleep at night. When he closed his eyes, the picture of Evelyn’s figure, struggling and yelling in

the fire, would haunt his dreams. During the sleepless nights, he’d hug his pillow tight, sobbing and

muttering his apology sorrowfully. He felt so remorseful for not being able to protect her. After all, he

thought he had caused her death.

Chapter 745

Chapter 745

For over two years, he couldn’t break from the guilt that threatened to consume him whole. He had

trouble falling asleep. Sometimes, he’d doze off due to exhaustion, but would jolt awake less than half

an hour later as Evelyn’s screams haunted his dreams.

The torment was too much for him to bear. In the end, he went to a psychologist. After a year of

treatment, he finally broke of the illness. However, Evelyn remained an untouchable scar in his heart.

Even though he got to know Vivian later and fell in love with her, there was still a spot for Evelyn in his

heart. He just couldn’t forget how she died in front of his eyes.

When Evelyn showed up at the graveyard, Finnick was utterly stunned. He was relieved to hear that

she was rescued later on. The burden in his heart immediately disappeared without a trace. For the

first time in years, he could relax.

Finnick was already in love with Vivian, so even if Evelyn was still alive, he could no longer be with her.

Still, he never suspected Evelyn’s words and actions. He had fallen out of love with her, but she was

still a special someone to him.

Later on, he broke up with Vivian and slowly got to know what Evelyn had done over the years.

Gradually, he grew to despise her. Even so, he was disgusted with the person Evelyn had turned into.

He had never regretted being childhood sweethearts with her in the past.

They shared so many sweet memories together, so he still cherished them despite the change in

Evelyn’s character. At least, or so he thought, they were innocent and sincere back then.

Now that Finnick thought of it, there was nothing sweet about their past. Evelyn’s innocence? It was all

his imagination. Nothing else. In fact, everything was a trap. The relationship which he cherished more

than anything else was nothing but a stepping stone to her.

“I never wanted to harm you!” Sensing the hatred in Finnick’s words, Evelyn panicked instantly.

“Finnick, trust me. I even untied you back then. I never wanted you to die. I love you so much. Why

would I want you dead?”

“Do you think I’ll still believe your words?” Finnick glared at her icily.

“Finnick, won’t you put yourself in my shoes?” Evelyn wailed desperately. “I didn’t have another choice!

Yes, I was too rash back then. But if you forgive me, I promise I won’t do it again!”

“We grew up together, Finnick. You can’t do this to me.” She pleaded. “Remember how happy we

were? We were so in love then! Did you forget everything?”

“Stop talking!” When Evelyn started talking about their past, a wave of fury crashed through Finnick.

How dare she mention our past? I’m nothing but a fool to her.

“Evelyn, loving you was the most regretful and foolish decision I’ve ever done in my life. If I could turn

back time, I won’t make your acquaintance!”

His gaze was menacing and furious as he enunciated each and every word clearly, denying the

relationship they had when they were young.

Stunned, tears rolled down Evelyn’s cheeks. Her tears wetted the sheets. Why? How do things end up

this way? I thought Finnick loves me. He forgave my mistakes over and over again. How could he say

that?

We used to be so blissful back then! How could he say he regretted getting to know me? How could he

regret that?

What will happen to me now?

Chapter 746

Chapter 746

Seeing her astonished expression, Finnick snickered and turn to leave her ward. He had decided to

make Evelyn pay for all her evil deeds to both Vivian and him. There was no need to spare her life now.

He would settle the score with her one by one.

As he was about to leave, Evelyn sprang up and tried to grab his arm, but her arm wasn’t long enough.

“Finnick! Please don’t leave! Please!” In her struggle, Evelyn fell to the ground with a thud. She

propped herself up and inched forward slowly.

When Finnick heard the hubbub, he came to a stop and turned around. By then, Evelyn had wriggled

her way to him and clutched the hem of his pants.

Wailing pitifully, she pleaded, “Finnick, you can’t leave me alone. I have lost everything and you’re the

only one I have now. If you leave, what will happen to me? I don’t want to be left alone!”

“You won’t be alone. Mark will be with you.” Finnick lowered his gaze and announced cruelly. He no

longer sympathized with Evelyn as she deserved this. She was going to pay for all her mistakes.

Evelyn realized what he meant immediately. Despair crept up in her heart as she clung to his legs. “I

don’t want to go to jail. Finnick, why are you this heartless?” She howled, “I’ve done so much for you

over the years. You can’t hate me for that one incident!”

Ignoring her howls, Finnick raised his leg to leave, but Evelyn refused to release her grip on his leg.

Left with no choice, he roared, “Let go!”

“No! I won’t!” Evelyn’s grip tightened. “Finnick, I love you. I love you dearly! I did everything for your

sake! You can’t do this to me!”

“You did everything for yourself.” Vivian, who had overheard their entire exchange, strode in and

mocked her.

Evelyn’s eyes widened in surprise at Vivian’s sudden appearance. Did Vivian see how I beg for

Finnick’s forgiveness? B*tch! How dare she hide outside and watch as I make a fool of myself!

“Vivian, it was all your fault I ended up in this predicament! How dare you watch me make a fool of

myself? You shall die a horrible death!” Evelyn hurriedly let go of Finnick and tried to sit up. She didn’t

want Vivian to see her in this pathetic situation.

“Shut up, Evelyn!” Finnick reprimanded her harshly. I can’t believe she’s still this arrogant. She’s not the

least bit remorseful.

“See? She hid outside to see me embarrass myself!” Evelyn pointed at Vivian and declared furiously. A

fresh swell of rage rose in her after Vivian showed up.

“She’s not a saint. She puts up an act in front of you, but actually, she’s a wicked woman. Don’t be

tricked by her! She doesn’t love you at all.” Evelyn’s words were brutal. “No wonder she could

manipulate Hunter so easily.”

Before Finnick could come out with a retort, Vivian blurted out, “Evelyn, stop defaming me. You have no

right to criticize me,” she scoffed. “Did you seriously think I have the time to hide outside deliberately to

see you make a fool of yourself? Ha! Not everyone is as evil as you!”

“You know what you did!” Evelyn retorted and stuck her nose up into the air. She might be in a

crumpled heap on the ground, but that didn’t stop her from cursing Vivian. “Not everyone is gullible

enough to believe your innocent act, Vivian. You’re nothing but a b*tch!”

Vivian was so furious to hear Evelyn’s words that her body started trembling profusely. Wow, I can’t

believe she’s saying that. Vivian sneered inwardly. She’s the one who put up an innocent act all over

the years, not me.

Chapter 747

Chapter 747

Vivian exhaled sharply and turned back to Evelyn. “Yes, I did it on purpose,” she scoffed. “I hid outside

to see you embarrass yourself. Evelyn, what a good show. Let me give you a round of applause.”

“I didn’t only watch it. I even recorded everything.” Vivian whipped out her phone and shook it

tauntingly. “Do you want to watch your excellent performance?”

“H-Hey!” Evelyn was at a loss for words.

Vivian strode to Evelyn’s side and mocked, “You need to tell the truth even though it was an act to beg

for forgiveness, Evelyn. I can’t believe you lied through your teeth and claimed it was for Finnick’s sake.

You did everything for your own selfish reasons! You want to live in luxury!”

“Shut the fck up!” Fury overtook Evelyn as she reached out to grab Vivian. “How long have you known Finnick, huh? Do you know him better than me?” She screamed, “Slt, how dare you say that? Who do

you think you are?”

“That’s enough!” Finnick pulled Vivian to his back deftly and yelled, “Stop your nonsense, Evelyn!”

“Why are you defending her? Why is everyone on her side?” Seeing how quickly Finnick acted to

protect Vivian, Evelyn broke down into a sobbing mess. Her face was full of snot and tears. “I love you!

I’m the one who loves you the most in this world! Why can’t you see that?”

Finnick flung his arm around Vivian and led her to the door. He was afraid Evelyn would hurt Vivian

seeing how mentally unstable she was.

Evelyn wanted to stop them from leaving, but she couldn’t walk. Stretching her hands out, she wailed,

“Finnick, trust me! I’ll still love you even if you have lost everything! Vivian can’t do that! She’s just a

lying wh*re!”

Ignoring her wails, Finnick brought Vivian out of the ward without hesitation. He even shut the door

behind him.

They strode ahead until Evelyn’s voice faded away.

Finnick sighed and released his grip on Vivian’s arm before collapsing onto a bench along the hallway.

He massaged his temples in exhaustion.

He was drained mentally and physically.

Vivian felt sorry for him. He must be overwhelmed by the truth. After all, he had been living in a lie for

years.

Vivian walked over and took a seat beside him out of concern, but she didn’t know how to comfort him.

She wasn’t involved in his past and had no idea how hurt he was, so she couldn’t understand his plight.

The only thing she could do was to stay by his side until he got over it himself. It would take some time

for him to get over things.

After a long while, Vivian blurted out ss Finnick was eerily silent, “Are you alright?”

Finnick heard her and was finally stirred. He looked up and flashed a smile before saying, “I’m fine.”

Yet, his smile was too forced.

“It’s useless to dwell on the past. We should look ahead and move on,” Vivian consoled him.

She knew her comforting words were very cliche, but there seemed to be nothing else she could say.

Right now, pain ripped across her chest when she saw how upset he was. She wanted to share his

pain and grief.

Chapter 748

Chapter 748

“I know.” Finnick nodded and shot her a grateful glance. “I can handle this. Don’t worry. At least I’ve

discovered the truth of that kidnapping incident and found closure now.”

“Mm.” Vivian inclined her head. Finnick wasn’t in the mood to chat with her, so an awkward silence

hung in the air.

Shortly after, a nurse dashed down the corridor hastily, seemingly looking for someone. Vivian found

the nurse familiar. Isn’t that the nurse who hung Rachel up on an IV drip earlier? She rose to her feet.

Is she looking for me?

After dashing around for a while, the nurse finally spotted Vivian and came to her. “Are you Rachel

William’s family? I think I saw you with her earlier.”

“Yes, I am.” Vivian nodded.

“Ah, finally. I’ve been looking around for you. Where have you been?” the nurse grumbled. Why did she

leave the patient alone in her room?

“I had to deal with something earlier. I’m sorry to trouble you. What is it about?” Vivian apologized and

inquired politely.

“The patient has regained consciousness. You should visit her. It’s nothing serious. She’s a little weak,

so make sure to take care of her health.” The nurse added, “Also, she had just come out of surgery, so

you need to take care of her and make sure she gets some rest. She’s back in the hospital after being

discharged just not long ago. There’s no way she’ll recover if this goes on. As her daughter, you need

to pay attention to her health.”

The nurse was frowning as she studied the medical records in her hand.

As Rachel was alone in her ward, the nurse thought her children were unfilial and refused to take care

of her. Hence, there was a hint of accusation in her voice.

“Okay, I got it. I’ll take note of that. Thank you for your concern,” came Vivian’s polite reply. She was

upset at how the nurse indirectly criticized her for being an unfilial daughter, but it was too complicated

to explain their circumstances to a stranger.

“Mm, you’re welcome. You should go to her now. Someone needs to be by her side.” The nurse

couldn’t pick on Vivian’s attitude, so she left some instructions before leaving.

“Let’s go visit Ms. Rachel together.” Finnick stood up and offered.

He was displeased with Rachel’s attitude toward Vivian, but he knew Vivian still cared for her.

“It’s alright. I can visit her myself. You should rest here.” As Finnick had just suffered from a huge blow,

Vivian didn’t want him to accompany her to face Rachel.

She could imagine how Rachel would chatter on about Evelyn. That thought alone was enough to

make her head ache, let alone Finnick. I don’t think he wants to hear Evelyn’s name now. He should

stay away from Rachel.

“I’m alright. Let’s go. I don’t want you to face her alone,” said Finnick. He got to his feet and headed to

Rachel’s ward ahead of Vivian.

Immediately, Vivian grabbed his arm and came up with an excuse. “I need to talk to her in private.”

Finnick came to a stop and nodded. “I’ll wait for you at the entrance of the hospital then. Give me a call

when you’re done. I’ll give you a ride home.”

“No need. I can hail a cab later.” Vivian refused his offer. She hadn’t decided about her relationship with

Finnick yet, so she wanted to keep a distance from him.

“Go. I’ll wait for you at the entrance.” Finnick ignored her rejection and strode away before she could

say no.

Chapter 749

Chapter 749

A hint of bitterness rose in Vivian’s heart as she watched Finnick walking away. She didn’t even know

why she felt like sobbing her heart out.

Due to various reasons and pure coincidence, maybe even her cowardice and deliberate avoidance;

she didn’t get to talk to Finnick about how he forced her to get an abortion back then. If it wasn’t a

misunderstanding, and he indeed instructed Noah to do so, what will happen to us?

Should I forgive him for little pumpkin’s sake? Or for my sake?

Strangely, Vivian couldn’t resist his tenderness. She was slowly succumbing to his advances, just like

how she fell for him back then. The only difference was that a nameless dread engulfed her right now

instead of the delight she felt back then.

After letting out a long sigh, Vivian forced back her tears. It wasn’t a good time to ponder over that right

now as she still had to visit Rachel.

“You’re too weak to leave the bed.”

“Ma’am, I’m fine. I want to see my daughter. I’m worried about her.”

When Vivian stepped into the ward, she saw Rachel arguing with a nurse. Clearly, Rachel wanted to

see Evelyn instead of her.

The nurse heaved a sigh of relief upon spotting Vivian. “You’re her family? Please convince her to stay

in bed until the IV drip is empty. She’s insisting on taking off the drip.”

Rachel was still mad at Vivian, so she turned away and ignored Vivian. Tears pricked at Vivian’s eyes

upon seeing her reaction, but she quickly reined in her emotions.

“Thank you. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she stays here until the drip is finished.” Vivian came to her bed

and assured the nurse.

“Mm, alright. You can press the bell when it’s almost finished. I’ll come to assist you as soon as I hear

the bell.” The nurse left right after saying that.

Sighing inwardly, Vivian took a seat. “Don’t worry. Evelyn’s fine. She’s resting in her ward. I’ll bring you

to her room when you’re done.”

“Is she really alright? Has she regained consciousness? Is her wound serious?” Rachel immediately

forgot she was still mad at Vivian and bombarded her with questions anxiously.

“She’s wide awake and fine. Don’t worry.” Tamping down her irritation, Vivian forced herself to reply

calmly. Deep down, she was sneering, She was well enough to argue with me just now. There’s

nothing wrong with her.

At her reassurance, Rachel sighed in relief. She pressed her hands together and prayed fervently,

“Thank you, Lord. Thank you…”

When her eyes fluttered open, she couldn’t help but feel guilty about how she treated Vivian earlier. It

was clearly Evelyn’s fault, but Rachel had lashed out upon Vivian after seeing her daughter getting

injured.

Taking Vivian’s hand, Rachel patted it softly. “Vivian, please forgive me for what I said earlier. I was too

worried and took it out on you.”

Vivian averted her gaze and replied softly, “It’s fine.” No matter what, Rachel had brought her up. She

couldn’t bring herself to criticize that woman.

“Vivian, I believe Evelyn didn’t do it on purpose. She’s a nice kid. I’ll discipline her slowly. Will you

forgive her and stop pursuing the matter?” Rachel implored.

Upon hearing Rachel’s plea, Vivian pulled away from her as a flash of pain appeared on her face. “This

isn’t the first time she did something this evil. Evelyn refused to repent. If I let her off this time, she

might do something worse in the future!”

Chapter 750

“No, she won’t!” Rachel retorted hastily. “I’ll make sure she won’t do that again. Vivian, please spare

her this once for my sake, will you?”

Vivian was torn, but she couldn’t bring herself to forgive Evelyn. Hence, she changed the topic. “You

should rest. We shall talk about this later. I’ll bring you some warm water to clean your face.”

With that, she stood up and headed for the door. She had barely taken two steps when Rachel caught

her. Looking back, she realized Rachel had ripped the needle off the back of her hand and dropped to

her knees in her haste.

“Vivian, please spare Evelyn’s life. I’ll apologize to you on her behalf!”

“What are you doing? What if your wound starts bleeding? Get up!” Vivian hurriedly pulled her up.

Rachel was, after all, someone she respected. This was already the second time Rachel got on her

knees to defend Evelyn, and Vivian could feel raw anger welling up in her chest.

Alas, Rachel insisted, “If you refuse to spare Evelyn’s life, I won’t get up.” She pleaded, “Vivian, I know

you’re kind-hearted. Can’t you help me with this once? Evelyn had suffered greatly over the years.

Look, you’re alive and living well. Stop pressing the matter, will you?”

Clearly, she was insinuating that Vivian was being unreasonable. Feeling upset, Vivian returned sternly,

“Evelyn tried to harm me repeatedly. I will never forgive her.”

Rachel immediately panicked. “But you weren’t injured, right? Besides, Finnick has reunited with you.

You are a happy couple, but Evelyn is left with nothing. She’s still lying in bed. Why won’t you let her off

the hook?”

“I’m happy? Have you ever asked if I’m happy?” Vivian retorted angrily. She was disappointed by

Rachel’s reaction. If she cares for me, she wouldn’t have ignored me when I have been harmed and

injured.

Tears pooled up in Vivian’s eyes as she struggled to control her feelings. “Is Evelyn the only one who

matters to you? What about me? Have you ever thought about how I have suffered over the years?”

Rachel parted her lips in surprise. “Evelyn lost everything. You’re different,” she insisted. “You have

Finnick and the Morrison family with you. They adore you, but Evelyn is left alone. She—”

Before she could finish, Vivian interjected, “Why didn’t you mention how she was brought up in a loving

family while I had to endure stares for being an illegitimate child?”

After yelling that out, Vivian broke down all of a sudden. All the accumulated grievances and emotions

burst out without warning.

“I saved you and took care of you as you brought me up. I was indebted to you.” She exclaimed, “Have

you ever considered my feelings? You only care for Evelyn. You’re her mother, not mine. You’ve never

thought of me as your daughter!”

Because of Rachel’s doing, she didn’t even get to see her birth parents. Still, she couldn’t bring herself

to blame Rachel as the woman had brought her up. She told herself to have respect for Rachel. Alas,

Rachel only had eyes for her own daughter, Evelyn. She didn’t even care for Vivian.

“No, you’re wrong. Vivian, I feel sorry for Evelyn. I-I love you, too. I…” Vivian tried to explain, but

nothing seemed right.

“Let’s not meet again from now on. I’ve taken care of you when you were sick. That’s enough payback

for all the years of care you have given me.” Vivian wiped her tears away and turned to leave.

She had told herself the same thing repeatedly, but this was the first time she had the courage to

actually tell Rachel that. This is it. It’s time to make a clean cut.
