Ch. 31..40
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 31-I told Ms. Gardner not to touch the box on the headboard because it’s important to you.” Rosie looked at the angry Liana ambiguously.
Rosie intentionally mentioned how much Jasper cared about Alice’s gift to provoke Liana into revealing the truth.
“I threw it away,” Liana confessed angrily, just as Rosie had anticipated.
Fury filled Jasper’s eyes as he asked, “Where is it?” “Jasper, why do you care about a gift from Alice? You’re divorced. I’m your fiancée. Have you considered my feelings when you cherish her gifts?” Her eyes became teary. Her acting was so natural, thanks to Sophia’s teaching.
“I’m asking you. Where is it?” Jasper’s tone turned cold, and he ignored her tears.
Shocked, she forgot to keep up her act and stammered, “I-It’s in the trash bin in the backyard Jasper ran to the backyard. He was drenched in the rain instantly. He rolled up his sleeves and searched through the trash bin for the box.
“Jasper! Stop! Look how filthy it is!” Liana yelled from the corridor.
Filthy? Perhaps, the Beckett family didn’t know how many trash bins he rummaged through when he was five.
As an illegitimate child, he and his mother had to survive those days by selling recyclable items.
Jasper grew up in the dump. He was so familiar with the environment that he found nothing wrong with it.
Finally, he found the box covered in dirt. He sighed in relief.
Rosie rushed over with an umbrella to shelter him from the rain. He couldn’t help the urge to open the box. Almost instantly, his eyes turned red, and his expression darkened.
The once ironed and clean suit had been cut into rags!
He turned his gaze toward Liana, who retreated in fear. His sharp gaze was suffocating her.
Without a word, he walked past her with the box.
She mustered the courage to hug the man. “Jasper, have you fallen for Alice?
Did you regret divorcing her?” “No.” His chest heaved up and down due to the surge of emotions.
Feeling grieved, she became forceful. “But you’re angry at me. Are you angry because I threw Alice’s gift away? It keeps reminding me of the three years you spent with her. Have you ever considered my feelings and how it makes me angry?” “What can I do to make you stop?” Jasper pushed her away and sighed. “I’ve divorced her and decided to marry you. Even if Grandpa is against it, I put up with it.
“But you went too far by destroying her things and cutting up the clothes she made. You even spread rumors about her being a homewrecker. Everyone is criticizing her.
“She’s no longer part of my life. Yet, it seems like you can’t let go of her.
Enough. Stop, Liana.” His words froze her with humiliation. The reality check sent a shiver down her spine.
It dawned upon Liana that Jasper had learned the truth.
“Jasper… Do you think I did it because I want to? I did it because I love you.” His frown softened, but he remained distant. “If you ever face difficulties, you can come to me. I’m willing to help, as long as it doesn’t harm others.
“But I dislike how you manipulate situations under the guise of love, especially when it involves the people I care about. You announced our wedding to save your family’s business. I can understand that. But I hope this is the last time.” He left without looking back, leaving Liana seething in anger. At that moment, all she wanted was to put an end to Alice once and for all.
1/2 +15 BONOS “Ms. Alyssa, Mia contacted me. Jasper caught her red-handed when she was coming home from work tonight. He knows she’s a substitute.” Sean placed his wine glass aside.
He figured that she would be tired after wearing heels the whole day. He kneeled on one knee to massage one of her feet.
“That’s expected. But I didn’t think he’d find out so quickly.” Alyssa enjoyed the massage so much that she narrowed her eyes in pleasure.
“After dealing with Gardner Group, our next target is Beckett Group. Since Mr.
Jasper has given the word, I suppose I should join the game,
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 32-Liana walked away, sobbing.
The maids were gushing about her hysterics. Her visits never failed to end up with antics and her leaving the place with tears. They wondered if she deemed Seaview Manor as her personal playhouse.
Jasper sat still on the couch. He stared at the jumble of cloth for a long time.
“Mr. Jasper, it’s getting late. Here’s some milk. You need to get some sleep.” Rosie handed him a glass of warm milk.
A heavy sigh escaped Rosie’s lips as she gazed upon the ruined suit. “What a shame.” Her words meant something deeper.
“The next time Lia stops by, keep an eye on her. Stop her from entering my room and study. Oh, and Alice’s room too,” Jasper instructed in a low voice.
“Don’t worry. Your wish is my command. I will watch her every move,” Rosie promised confidently.
She then added, “Luckily, I locked Madam Alice’s room. Otherwise, Ms. Gardner might have sneaked in and caused a mess.” “Don’t put it that way, Mrs. Rosie. Lia isn’t that bad of a person. After all, I owe her for the past three years.” “What about Madam Alice? Has she done anything wrong? Don’t you feel sorry for her after the divorce?” Rosie’s voice rose to another octave without her realizing it as she defended Alice.
“The person Grandpa coerced was me, not her. She could’ve chosen not to marry me.” “Are you saying that she deserves all this?” Jasper pursed his pale lips.
“Rest up. I’ll be out of your hair.” A gloomy Rosie left the room with grudges. She took the milk with her too.
He blinked his eyes and drew a sharp breath, wondering, “Is she mad? I’m not finished with the milk yet, though. Since when did Alice win the hearts of the people I care for? What a calculating person.” As the bearer of bad news, Liana returned home in a forlorn state.
Without Backett Group’s funding, Gardner Group would be in serious trouble, and turning things around would be difficult.
“What’s that brat, Jasper, doing? He claims to love you so much, but he acts like a douchebag. Do we mean nothing to him?” Dylan hurled the ashtray onto the floor. His eyes reddened.
“How is he not in love with me? He divorced for my sake without hesitation.” A sobbing Liana tried to redeem her pride.
“I bet he’s weighing the pros and cons. At least, you’re from a rich family. And what does Alice White have? How can a rag be compared to riches? Even a fool knows who his best pick is!” Dylan stated.
Although Liana knew Dylan was on her side, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that he was somehow belittling her.
“Lia, why did Mr. Jasper change his mind out of the blue? What happened?” asked Andrew in distress.
“I don’t know either. Jasper met Ms. Alyssa today. And his attitude took a one– eighty turn after returning home. He said he’s not going to help us anymore “Dad, Dylan, did you guys do something in the back, and someone found out about it? He seems to hate our family …” “F***! Is it because of his ex–wife, Alice?” Dylan thought of something.
“What do you mean?” Liana became jittery at the mention of Alice’s name.
“A few days ago, I was at the Harpers‘ bar, and I bumped into that crazy woman.
Jasper ended up helping her out and made me apologize to her. It’s ridiculous!” Dylan held onto his resentment and humiliation.
Liana’s face darkened at the thought of Jasper possibly having feelings for Alice.
1/2 +15 BONOS *Enough. Things will get better once Lia becomes Mrs. Beckett.” Seeing how Liana’s gaze had turned frosty, Rosalina comforted her.
“That Alice is just a cast–off. No matter how calculating she is, she can do nothing in this situation. Our main focus now is to change the public’s perception of us. We need to find a scapegoat. That’s our top priority.” Rosalina continued.
“A scapegoat?” An idea fleeted on Dylan’s mind as he smirked. “There’s no better candidate than him.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 33-Gardner Group was on the verge of collapse. Not only did they fall from grace, but more than ten of Elysian Home’s physical stores in Solana City were now deserted.
Worst still, Jasper had decided not to help them out. If they did not come up with a solution soon, they would be done once the funding from Beckett Group ran out.
Meanwhile, Taylor Group won the public’s favor upon exposing the Gardners’ true colors.
After a long period of flying under the radar, KS World Hotel was finally gaining some attention.
“I’ve been doing as you asked. I’ve been keeping an eye on Michael ever since you tired him. As you’d expected, he has been in personal contact with Dylan. It happened not only once,” reported Sean.
Sean held Alyssa’s hand as he manicured her nails. He exclaimed, “Everything is unfolding just as you predicted. You totally hit the bullseye. You know what he was thinking.” “He embezzled the hotel’s funding and conspired with Dylan behind our backs, I guess they have a deep bonding.” Alyssa smiled, relishing his manicure service.
Alyssa then declared, “Gardner Group will hold a press conference during the weekend. I’ll show you what it means by ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed.”” The new mattresses were delivered today. Excited, Alyssa checked on the quality with Sean.
“Ms. Alyssa, you don’t have to do this. The Housekeeping Department and I can handle It.” Sean persuaded her.
“I’m not a fragile doll. I’ve fired guns on battlefields. I’ve carried out hundreds of casualties and saved even more patients. So, tell me, how tiring can a quality check be?” As soon as she finished, a trace of bitterness flashed in her eyes.
She recalled a past incident when she saved Jasper during a war in Luminara.
He had been shot in the leg and shoulder, and despite his pleas for her to leave him, she insisted on staying by his side.
“Just leave me and go! I’m telling you to leave! Just go!” “No! Even if you’re dying here, I will not abandon you! If I have to go, we have to go together!” Alyssa was ment*lly prepared to meet her demise at that moment. Jasper was nearly 6’2 feet tall. With her strength alone, carrying him back to the safe zone would be impossible.
Alyssa believed that dying together signified their unwavering bond through thick and thin. She felt ready to face her demise without any regrets.
A bitter smile appeared on Alyssa’s lips as her heart throbbed with every beat.
Alyssa realized that Jasper had broken her heart and profoundly impacted her life. She questioned whether meeting such a charming person at a young age had been a mistake.
Alyssa and Sean walked to the unloading bay, where the employees unloaded the stocks.
The Director of the Housekeeping Department was even more Impressed as he saw Alyssa personally unloading the stocks.
With Sean’s help, Alyssa climbed onto the truck and unpacked one of the packages. She felt the material of the mattress and sat on it before expressing satisfaction.
“All good. Unload everything.” Suddenly, a blue Lamborghini approached with a roaring engine.
The unloading bay was near the underground parking lot. So, luxury cars passing by weren’t uncommon. But it was different this time.
BITINI 1166 +15 BONOS Landon held the steering wheel with his left hand. In his right hand was a lady.
Behind his sunglasses, he scanned the area and stumbled upon a pleasant surprise.
He caught sight of Alyssa helping the employees unload the mattresses.
As pretty as she was, she appeared dangerous, like a rose with thorns.
Even though she was now dressed as a career woman, it did not hide a smidgen of the sophisticated air around her. Instead, her outfit added the shrewdness of a mature woman.
Furthermore, her movements were confident and graceful. It was a far cry from the frail woman he had seen before.
As his interest in her grew, he smirked mischievously. “This country bumpkin is quite capable, isn’t she?”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 34-Landon went to a Trivedian restaurant in the hotel with the lady, Vanessa James.
As soon as the dishes were served, Vanessa began to take pictures of the exquisite food.
Looking at how naive she was, Landon felt annoyed. “What’s with the photos?
Haven’t you seen food before?” Vanessa reluctantly put her phone away and started to eat in silence.
As they neared the end of the meal, the restaurant manager approached and asked, “Mr. Harper, are you pleased with our food today?” “Not bad. The texture of the meat was pretty tender. I quite like it.” Landon had a questionable private life. But being born into a wealthy family gave him certain refinement in his manners and speech.
“What are you talking about? The meat was so chewy. It didn’t taste good at all.” Vanessa slammed the utensils on the table.
Landon’s face fell in an instant. His gaze darkened.
“We sincerely appreciate your feedback and will strive to serve you better next time. Much apologies!” The manager bowed deeply.
“Don’t listen to her. She didn’t wear her dentures today. She’ll still say it’s chewy even if it’s a piece of cheese,” Landon said with ridicule.
Vanessa froze. How could she possibly have the guts to retort Landon?
hint of Landon retrieved a stack of banknotes from his pocket and put them in front of the manager. It was now a norm to pay using e–wallets. Perhaps Landon was the only one who still carried cash with himn.
“This is your tip. I’d like to inquire about someone from you.” Landon rested his chin on his palm, his desire evident in his eyes. “Is there an employee called Alice working here?” “Mr. Harper, at KS World Hotel, we adhere to the principle of receiving rewards proportional to our efforts. We never accept tips from customers. And there aren’t any employees here with that name.” “That’s impossible!” Landon became a little impatient. “When I got here, I saw her unloading the goods at the unloading bay. Go and check it out for me!” “I’m sorry, Mr. Harper. It’s unnecessary to check. I’ve been working here for 15 years. I know all the employees. The one that you’re looking for isn’t one of them.” After saying that, the manager went away.
Just as Landon was feeling confused about it, a graceful figure suddenly came into sight.
Alyssa walked into the restaurant by herself. As soon as she saw Landon, she couldn’t help but be surprised. Nevertheless, she still maintained her composure.
Jasper had given her the cold shoulder throughout the three years of their marriage. He had never brought her out with him, let alone introduced her to his friends.
Despite that, Alyssa knew that his best friend was Landon. Although the stark difference in their personalities puzzled her, she was certain of their deep friendship.
Fortunately, there weren’t any other employees around in the restaurant. If someone approached her now and called her “Ms. Alyssa,” she would be in the soup.
Landon fixed his eyes on Alyssa, his gaze wide with astonishment.
When Vanessa saw Landon had eyes for another woman, she seethed with anger. Moreover, she could tell that he looked at that woman differently. It was as if there was a hint of budding affection.
A wave of jealousy washed over her.
After ordering a coffee, Alyssa sat there and started playing with her phone.
‘Hey, what a coincidence. Are you here for a meal too?” 1/2 415 BONOS Landon arched his brows slightly, He, of course, knew that she was working here, He simply asked that to save her from embarrassment However, little did he expect her to be so direct. There wasn’t any vanity in her.
He was starting to like her more.
Tsk tsk. Jonah just doesn’t know how to cherish a woman like you, Instead of letting you out here to suffer, he should have kept you away and treated you like a precious treasure. What a heartless man,” Landon said, stroking his chin, “Kept me away?” Alyssa sneered, “I’ve been hidden by Jasper for three years and have had enough of days like that. Are you telling me to experience it all over again, Mr. Harper?” Hearing that, Landon was stunned. Alyssa’s smile was tinged with a chilling edge that made him uncomfortable, *After leaving Jasper, I vowed to myself that I’d be an independent woman, even if it would be a difficult journey, I no longer want to be a wife with a humble status at home, nor do I want to rely on my husband. I’m glad that Mr. Jonah could give me a chance to improve myself. He has always respected my choice, so please don’t speak ill of him.” Landon was at a loss for words, and the smile on his face turned sheepish.
“Mr. Harper, your girlfriend is still waiting for you over there, I don’t think it’s appropriate for you to chat another woman up,” Alyssa lowered her eyes, trying to put an end to their conversation.
“How is she my girlfriend when I’m simply having a meal with her? If that’s the case, does that mean I’ve married her if I kiss her?
•
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 35-Wearing a slightly frivolous and seductive smile, Landon said, “Let’s have dinner tonight. I’ll come and pick you up. Tell me what you want to eat. I’ll make a reservation.” “I have a boyfriend, Mr. Harper.” Alyssa frowned, and there was a hint of irritability in her voice.
“Well, I don’t even care that you have an ex–husband, let alone this.” When it came to relationships, Landon had always been shameless and unscrupulous. As long as he liked it, he didn’t mind going against morality.
“If you’re afraid, we can do it secretly in my private villa. It’s secluded, and my cook has the standard of a three–star Michelin chef. I can tell them to make preparations in advance.” Alyssa knitted her brows. “Why isn’t my coffee here yet?” she thought.
She wanted to splash it in his face to sober him up!
Right then, Landon’s phone rang. It was a call from Jasper.
“I need to answer a call, so please excuse me.” With that, he walked away.
“What a shameless man! I didn’t even ask you to be with me!” Alyssa cursed inwardly.
Soon, the waiter served her the coffee.
However, before she could take a sip, Vanessa walked up to her.
Vanessa couldn’t hear their conversation earlier. All she knew was that Alyssa was the female employee Landon sought.
“She is just a lowly worker. Who does she think she is to fight over Landon with me? I’m so going to teach her a lesson today!” she muttered to herself.
“Hey, I’m warning you–stay away from Mr. Harper if you still wish to continue working here.” Vanessa shot daggers at her, her eyes filled with hostility.
Frowning, Alyssa waved her hand before her nose. The perfume fragrance lingering on Vanessa was so pungent that her head throbbed. Alyssa couldn’t help wondering if Landon still had his sense of smell with him.
“What can you do if I don’t do as you say?” Alyssa asked without even bothering to look at her.
“I’ll file a complaint against you and make sure you don’t end up well!” “A complaint? And it’s going to be because you’re dissatisfied that Landon talked with me?” “You!” Vanessa was livid.
“Go ahead, then. Even if Mr. Jonah knows about this, he will only think that something is wrong with your brain.” “Bitch!” In anger, Vanessa reached out to take the cup of coffee on the table, thinking of giving it to Alyssa, whose beauty she was jealous of.
However, it didn’t turn out the way she had expected.
Suddenly, Vanessa screamed.
Alyssa had grabbed the cup ahead of Vanessa and splashed the coffee onto the latter’s face.
Vanessa’s makeup was ruined, and her newly–bought branded dress was stained. Her lips trembled nonstop, and she was on the verge of shedding tears.
Picking up a napkin calmly, Alyssa wiped the drop of coffee on the back of her hand. “If someone has to be mistreated between you and me, that person will have to be you, of course.” She smiled.
1/2 +15 BONOS “It’s Mrs. Harper’s birthday the day after tomorrow. I don’t know what to buy for her, so come out and pick a gift with me tonight.” Jasper cut straight to the chase.
“Alas, my mother treats you like her godson. Even if you give her wild grass, she will treasure it as if it were antique. So just give her anything!” Landon said casually.
“No. Come with me tonight.” “I have an appointment tonight. Make it tomorrow.” “Cancel it.” “I’ve already invited her to have dinner together. How can I stand a beauty up?
This is not what a gentleman should do.” Landon thought for a while. Although he wasn’t quite a decent man, he wasn’t someone who would stab his friends behind their backs.
Landon didn’t have any secret affairs with Alyssa. He was merely trying to hook up with her aboveboard.
Clearing his throat slightly, he said in a stern voice, “I don’t want to keep you in the dark. The person I’m meeting with tonight is actually your ex–wife.” All of a sudden, silence ensued on the other side of the line.
“Hello?” Landon spared a glance at the screen to make sure that he wasn’t hung up on.
A while later, Jasper’s deep and magnetic voice came through. “You’re with Alice now?”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 36-As soon as Jasper finished speaking, a sharp scream came from the restaurant.
Landon suddenly remembered that Vanessa was still in there. She definitely wouldn’t sit still. Letting her stay in the same place with Alyssa alone would surely lead to trouble!
“Jasper, something has happened! I’ve got to gol And I can only meet with you tomorrow!” Just as Landon was about to end the call, Jasper asked, “Where are you?” At this time, another piercing exclamation came through. It was way harsher than the first.
“At the Trivedian restaurant in KS World Hotel!” After saying that, Landon immediately headed back to the restaurant.
The moment he pushed open the door, he was shocked by what was happening before his eyes.
Alyssa was grabbing Vanessa by the hair with her left hand. Her right hand was forcefully pressing her head down onto the table. Meanwhile, Vanessa couldn’t move at all as both of her wrists were shackled by Alyssa’s other hand.
This simply looked like the scene of a smart female police officer arresting a criminal!
At first, Landon was worried that Alyssa would get the short end of the stick.
Now it seemed like his worry was unnecessary. Instead of Intervening to stop the fight, he crossed his arms and watched with a smile on his lips.
“I’m going to sue you and make sure that you can’t survive in Solana!” Vanessa’s face had contorted under Alyssa’s pressure. But she was still not giving in.
“Hurry up, then. Otherwise, when my handprint on your face disappears, you won’t be able to do it anymore.” Alyssa remained expressionless throughout the entire time. If Vanessa hadn’t wanted to attack her, Alyssa wouldn’t even want to touch her.
When Vanessa saw Landon was back, she immediately cried for help. “M–Mr.
Harper, help me!” “Okay, okay. It’s enough…” Landon approached them and pulled Alyssa away.
His voice didn’t have any hints of reproach at all. In fact, it sounded like he was coaxing her.
He didn’t think such a scene was a big deal. After all, he had had four women fighting over him in the middle of the street before.
It was just that Alyssa was his best friend’s ex–wife. Hence, it might not be good for Jasper if this news were to spread.
“Mr. Harper! What do you mean by that? This bitch has beaten me up! She slapped me in the face and even tugged at my hair! Look at what I have become! You have to seek justice for me!” Vanessa was so infuriated that it seemed like she was on the verge of getting crazy.
Alyssa sat calmly in her chair, crossing her legs as she watched the unkempt woman before her.
Landon ran his eyes down her legs in admiration and stopped at her fair and delicate feet adorned in high heels.
“Damn, how can she be so beautiful?” he muttered in his heart.
“You must have offended Ms. White, which was why she hit you. Apologize to her now,” Landon said, fixing his stare on Alyssa.
“I… Why should I apologize to her?” Vanessa’s face reddened with fury.
“Because you like me, and Ms. White doesn’t. So Ms. White can’t possibly look for trouble with you,” Landon replied.
Alyssa arched her brows. “He’s quite smart, much better than Jasper,” she thought.
“How can you do this to me, Mr. Harper? I’m your girlfriend!” Vanessa rushed over to Landon in tears and wanted to hug him. However, Landon took a step back in disdain, causing her to almost lose her balance.
“Girlfriend? Who said so?” Landon shot Vanessa a frosty gaze, sending a shiver down her spine. “Quickly apologize to Ms. White and buzz off. Don’t ever let me see you again.” 1/2 would seem like doomsday was approaching.
+15 BONOS “I–I’m sorry!” Vanessa squeezed out the words through gritted teeth. Then, she fled the scene while covering her face in shame.
“I’m sorry to have caused you inconvenience, Ms. White,” Landon said, returning to his previous demeanor.
“You’ve made her apologize to me. It’s settled.” Alyssa spared a glance at her watch and stood up from her seat. “It’s time for me to get back to work. Take care, Mr. Harper.” Landon was a watch collector. He immediately noticed Alyssa was wearing a global limited edition of Richard Mille!
“Looks like Jonah treats her well. I don’t think I’ll be willing to give this to her,” he thought.
He felt that Alyssa was simply an ignorant country bumpkin for wearing such a luxurious watch for laborious work.
“What time are you getting off work today, Ms. White? I’ll pick you up at night,” Landon said, catching up with her.
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 37-“Give it up. It’s not going to happen,” Alyssa said firmly. “I won’t eat with you.” Landon clucked his tongue. “Why so harsh? Remember how I helped you teach Dylan a lesson? Think of this meal as thanks for that. Can’t you do that?” Alyssa smiled mockingly. “As far as I’m aware, Jasper’s the one who helped me out. It’s inappropriate for you to take credit for something your best bud did.” “Have I done anything to offend you, Ms. White? Why can’t you give me a chance?” Landon looked her in the eye. “Is it because you already have Jonah?
Does he have the guts to tell the world you’re his girlfriend? Because I do!” “Mr. Harper, it doesn’t matter who came first or last when it comes to relationships. But having shame and morals does.” Alyssa’s simple sentence was enough to make Landon pale. “I may not have the best upbringing, but I do know what shame is.” “When I married Jasper, my heart belonged to him and only him. Now that Jonah’s my boyfriend, he’s all I can see. I don’t mind if my relationship isn’t the best, but I hate it when people try to ruin it. I’d advise you to keep your nose out of my business, Mr. Harper. Please don’t disturb my life anymore.” Only the heavens knew how bitter Alyssa felt when she said this.
Even Landon could tell she was trying hard to suppress her anger and heartache. His gaze deepened for a second. Alyssa breathed deeply and put her guard up again. Then, she turned to leave with her head held high and came to an abrupt stop.
… “Jasper?” Landon’s eyes widened. How had he gotten there so quickly? Had he taken a rocket or something?
Jasper stood at the entrance of the restaurant with his back straight. He oozed iciness. The restaurant’s A/C was turned up at full blast. But Jasper’s presence made it become an ice cellar.
Alyssa met his burning gaze. She had to say that his eyes were beautiful and bright. Once upon a time, they’d bewitched her and put her under a spell. But those same eyes had only looked at her with iciness.
Jasper had never smiled at her, let alone given her loving looks. She’d been obsessed with the idea of melting a heart of stone. The tears she’d shed and the effort she’d expended had moved no one but herself.
Jasper approached her with narrowed eyes. He’d turned down his afternoon appointment when he’d heard about Alice and Landon being together. Then, he’d sped over to the restaurant. Upon his arrival, he heard what she said to Landon about Jonah.
He felt an inexplicable emptiness in his chest at her words. This made him mad.
He’d never been the type to throw a tantrum, but Alice always made him lose control! He looked her in the eye. “What are you doing here?” “Work.” She turned away.
“Is there something wrong with your memory? I told you we’re still husband and wife as long as the divorce isn’t finalized. You’re still a member of the Beckett family. You know very well Beckett Group and Taylor Group are competitors.
“Yet, you’ve chosen to work at one of Taylor Group’s hotels. What the hell were you thinking? Are you trying to piss me off? Or disgust me?
Or humiliate me?” The veins in Jasper’s forehead throbbed.
Landon suddenly felt anxious. He was about to appease them both when Alyssa said, “So that’s what you think.” She gave him a frosty look. “If that’s the case, let’s get it over and done with today. Then, you’ll stop haunting me and showing your ugly mug around me.” “Alice White!” Jasper scowled.
“What, you don’t have everything you need with you? Have Xavier deliver them to you. I carry my things with me at all times. After all, I pray every day that they’ll be put to good use.” Alyssa smiled disdainfully. She didn’t look like she would miss Jasper at all.
Jasper immediately saw red. He grabbed her arm forcefully. It was almost as if he were afraid he wouldn’t be able to catch her once she fled. Unfortunately, in the next second… “Ouch!” A sharp pain jolted through Alyssa’s arm. Sweat beaded on her forehead. Jasper stiffened, and his heart raced. He’d dislocated her arm
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 38-“F**k! Have you lost your fucking mind, Jasper?” Landon’s eyes bulged.
Alyssa looked ashen. Her arm fell to her side limply, and cold sweat beaded over her forehead. He and Jasper were exact opposites–he treated women gently while Jasper was too harsh with them!
Jasper clenched the hand that had grabbed Alyssa’s arm. His lips parted as he stepped back, looking stunned.
“Ms. White, your arm’s dislocated! I’ll take you to the hospital right now!” Landon said anxiously. He moved to help her, but she dodged him. “No, thanks. I’ll deal with this myself.” “How are you going to do that? You have a dislocated arm!” “It’s none of your business!” Alyssa was genuinely angry now. She glared at him, her hackles raised. Landon was stunned. He didn’t dare move.
Jasper stared at her. She was his ex–wife, but he felt like he’d never really known her. Throughout the three years of their marriage, he’d only seen her smile and laugh. She’d always been gentle, obedient, and even a little ingratiating.
Back then, he was disappointed and resentful because of the forced marriage.
The more she smiled at him, the angrier he felt. Toward the end, he felt hatred for her.
Now that they had separated, that smiling face had disappeared from his life.
But why did he find her so much more alive and spirited when she treated him with anger and resentment?
“Jasper, stop thinking so highly of yourself…” Alyssa gasped with pain. Her eyes were red. “I didn’t get a job because I wanted to humiliate you or anything. I only wanted to find a way out after you inevitably abandoned me.
“I don’t know why you keep stopping me from moving on. Didn’t you turn and move on with someone else after ending our marriage? Are you still hung up on me? No, that can’t be. You don’t have the heart for that. You just don’t want to see me doing well.” Jasper felt like something was smothering him. He couldn’t say a word. His silence made Alyssa’s heart sink.
She smiled mockingly. “Are you waiting to see me down in the dumps without you? That’s not going to happen anymore. I’ve lived like that for the past three years, and I’ve had enough. Leaving you isn’t a continuation of my tragic life. It’s a release. Leave me alone from now until Grandpa’s birthday. I don’t want to see you anymore.” Alyssa turned away. The pain coming from her arm was nothing compared to the pain in her heart. She was already numb from it.
The dislocated arm wasn’t an issue. She could just fix it before their very eyes.
She didn’t want to do anything about it, though. Alyssa wanted to stay in this messy state and put herself through as much pain as possible. Then, she could reach a state of release.
Suddenly, something warm pressed against the back of her waist. Her world was flipped on end. Jasper had slipped behind her and swept her into his arms!
“P–Put me down!” Her cheeks warmed as she struggled.
But the harder she struggled, the tighter Jasper’s hold became. He pressed her to his broad chest and made her stop. She could feel his chest rising and falling.
She could even smell his cologne.
For some reason, she felt like crying. How many nights had she spent alone?
She’d sprayed his cologne on the bed and fallen asleep while smelling it. Back then, she’d willingly done these things. Now that she looked back, she only felt aggrieved.
“I’m taking you to the hospital. A dislocated arm is no laughing matter.” Jasper’s face was devoid of emotion, but his eyes darkened.
“Let me go, Jasper! You couldn’t care less about me when we were married.
Now that we’re divorced, you have no right to touch me!” Alyssa was angry and embarrassed. Her voice turned hoarse.
Jasper ignored her. He clenched his jaw and headed out of the restaurant
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 39-Landon clucked his tongue and ran after them. “She’s right! It’s inappropriate for you to treat her like this now that you two have divorced! I’ll carry you, Ms.
White!” “F* off!” “F* off!” The former couple spoke in unison. It was just that one of them saw red while the other’s face was red. Landon couldn’t help thinking that they were pretty similar.
At the hospital, Alyssa was taken into the clinic. Jasper and Landon waited in the corridor. “Damn, Jasper. How could you have treated her like that? Do you think she’d be able to handle your rough treatment? Or were you trying to rip her arm off?” Landon shook his head.
“How did you know she was working there?” Jasper looked at him coldly. There was a trace of anger in his eyes.
“I was there for a meal and happened to run into her. Before I arrived, she was doing hard labor at the unloading bay. You should’ve seen how hard she was working–no one would’ve believed she used to be a president’s wife.” He smiled slightly and sounded a little admiring.
Landon continued, “She wasn’t mad or upset, nor did she think too highly of herself. She’s honestly the most special woman I’ve ever met.” Jasper clenched his fists and said hoarsely, “Well, you haven’t seen much of the world.” “It’s better than not knowing you have a good thing,” Landon mocked. He didn’t mind exchanging insults.
Jasper’s eyes were red. He felt his heart twist.
Landon added, “In all seriousness, I think you and Alice will eventually get back together.” “That’s impossible,” Jasper rasped out.
“You obviously still care about her. Why else did you hurry over here? You have no idea how whipped you are. She’s all you can see. Don’t you dare say she means nothing to you.” Landon leaned against the wall with his arms crossed.
He shook his head.
Landon continued, “Whatever you’re doing now is poor taste, dude. You abandoned your wife for an ex–lover, yet you’re mad to see her moving on.
Don’t tell me you wanna take a leaf out of Belbanks‘ Winston Taylor’s book and have a harem or something.” “She promised Grandpa to wait until after his birthday to finalize the divorce.
She should stick to her word.” “She was only saying that because she didn’t want to upset him too much.
You’re being shameless by making her stick to it.” “Keep your nose out of my business.” Jasper suddenly felt suffocated.
“I was going to, but I do quite like Ms. White. I’m genuinely interested in her, so I was hoping you’d leave her alone and stop meddling with her life.” Landon looked serious for once in his life as he reiterated what Alyssa had told him.
“Forget about it. You’re not her type.” Jasper’s expression darkened.
“She’d have to give me a try to see whether I’m her type.” ‘Landon Harper.” Landon ignored Jasper’s anger and cocked his head. “If you change your mind about marrying Liana and decide to get back together with her, I’ll back out. I’ll forget about ever being interested in her.
“After all, we’ve been friends for so many years. Heck, you’re my only friend. But if you continue harassing Ms. White after marrying Liana, don’t blame me for kicking your ass. I’ll do it for her sake.” Jasper pursed his lips. His expression was stormy.
*Jasper Beckett!” An angry roar ripped through the corridor. Jasper had just turned around when he was punched in the face.
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 40-Jasper used to be a cadet of the most elite military academy in the nation. He was enlisted in the army for three years after graduating from the academy.
Hence, he was still strong and powerful as ever despite being a businessman.
Silas‘ punch ended up bruising the corner of Jasper’s mouth. The latter’s body didn’t even budge in the slightest.
“Holy shit! Is he another love rival of mine?” Landon screamed Internally.
Naturally, he dared not scream in Silas‘ face.
He suddenly remembered the way Alice had mocked him earlier. Apparently, homewreckers mustn’t be arrogant.
Meanwhile, Silas tried to punch Jasper again out of fury. At that point, the latter would never give him another chance to strike at him. So Jasper dodged the punch swiftly.
“Jasper, didn’t I tell you to stay away from Alice? Are you this shameless?” Silas panted heavily, his eyes now bloodshot. “I’ll fucking skin you alive if anything happens to her! Hell, I’ll make the Beckett Group pay for this!” “Mr. Taylor, you’re being dramatic. It’s just a dislocation.” Landon was afraid another fight might break out again, so he quickly intervened.
“Hah! It’s just a dislocation?” Silas scowled furiously at Landon. “Both of you either toy with women’s feelings or ignore the shit out of them! How could you understand my feelings, huh?
“I love Alice the most! I’ve vowed to protect and love her for the rest of my life!
Now get the hell away from Alice, you disgusting plece of shit!” What Silas said was the truth.
Even if he were to get married to another woman in the future, he would still prioritize Alice before his wife.
Jasper looked surprised upon hearing Silas‘ straightforward and passionate confession. He would never have the courage to confess his love to a woman in such a way. (1)
Alice became a charming and enchanting woman right after divorcing him. At first, Jonah appeared in her life. Then, she got acquainted with Landon. Those men started developing an Interest in her. (1)
Jasper found it difficult to describe what he was feeling right now. (1)
It felt like he was an idiot for not knowing such a precious treasure was right next to him. Once he ditched it, everyone else wanted it for themselves. Naturally, Jasper was reluctant to let that treasure go.
“Just you wait, Jasper! I’m definitely suing you!” Silas pointed at Jasper angrily. He wanted to order Axel to assassinate that son of a bitch.
“Go ahead, but I’d like to correct you on one thing.” Jasper made eye contact with Silas with a stony look on his face. “Alice and I have yet to wrap up the legal divorce procedures. She’s still my wife for now.” Landon was speechless. He felt that Jasper was exceptionally talented when it came to insulting people.
Silas, on the other hand, wanted to spit at Jasper. But he suppressed the urge to do so because he needed to protect his dignity as a wellmannered scion.
“Mr. Taylor.” A soft voice drifted from behind the men. They quickly turned around to look at the speaker.
Alyssa could be seen standing elegantly. Her left arm was now sealed in a cast.
She looked calm and composed, though her face was slightly pale.
Jasper narrowed his eyes slightly. His throat felt dry for some reason.
1/2 +15 BONOS Alice stood there by herself. Her beautiful eyes conveyed innocence. The men who laid their eyes on her wanted nothing more than to protect her.
Suddenly, an old and blurry memory popped into Jasper’s mind. Strangely enough, Alice resembled the figure in that memory.
Alice … Alice Pain shot through Jasper’s head for a moment, but it soon disappeared alongside the memory.
Silas quickly approached Alyssa with reddened eyes. His heart ached for her as he asked, “Does it still hurt?” “Not really. Let’s go home.” Alyssa flashed a bright smile at her older brother.
For a moment, Jasper was captivated by that smile.
Silas wrapped an arm around Alyssa’s waist and led her to the other end of the corridor.
The latter couldn’t be bothered to even glance in Jasper’s direction.
Jasper was jealous, to say the least. He was about to approach the siblings when Landon stopped him.
“That’s enough, Jasper. You’ll only piss her off if you go after her right now. It’s your fault for hurting Ms. White in the first place. Haven’t you realized that she’s the one who called Mr. Taylor here?
“She only wants to be with him right now. Let’s not bother them anymore.” Jasper watched as Silas and Alyssa disappeared from his line of sight. He could only clench his fists tightly in response.
Soon, Sean hurried over to the location. Silas had informed him to come here as soon as he could. Hence, Sean was still kept in the dark about Alyssa’s situation.
“What happened to you, Ms. Alyssa? Who hurt you?” “It’s all thanks to that fucking mutt, Jasper!”
