Ch. 41..50
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 41-Silas was still furious about what Jasper did. He was about to start ranting when Alyssa glared at him, which shut him up.
“What the hell? I’ll go beat him up right now!” Sean exclaimed, Sean was about to get up and leave when Alyssa called out to him. “It’s fine.
You can’t beat him in a fight anyway. He used to be a member of the Peacekeeping Forces, after all. You might get beaten up instead.” She continued, “Besides, he didn’t mean to hurt me. That man always underestimates his strength, after all. He doesn’t care about me at all,” “Why do you sound like you’ve known him for a long time, Ms. Alyssa?” Alyssa looked dazed for a moment. Then, she pursed her lips and kept mum.
Sean didn’t know her exact relationship with Jasper for now. She didn’t mean to hide the truth from him. It was just that she was too lazy to explain everything to him.
Alyssa’s relationship with Jasper was already over. She no longer wished to have anything to do with him.
Silas brewed a cup of coffee for Alyssa once they returned to the mansion. At the same time, he kept cussing at Jasper for being an inhuman bastard. The thing was, he had been ranting about Jasper on their way home.
“I’m sorry, Silas.” Alyssa looked down at her feet guiltily.
“Huh? Why are you apologizing to me?” Silas was surprised to hear the apology. He placed a hand on Alyssa’s forehead immediately. “Are you having a fever? Why are you spouting nonsense?” “No. I had to ask for your help to keep my identity a secret since Jonah went to Yoarkley on a business trip. I was worried you’d think I was using you the whole time …” Alyssa’s voice grew softer as she spoke.
“What are you talking about, you silly brat?” Silas walked over to Alyssa and gave her a comforting hug. All he felt was sorrow and heartbreak for his younger sister. He made sure to avoid touching her injured arm while hugging her.
“We’re your older brothers. It’s our duty to protect you. If you get married again in the future, we’ll become your bodyguards.” Silas felt his words weren’t reassuring enough. So, he added, “Even if you stay single for the rest of your life, we’ll still protect you. You can rely on us.” Alyssa smiled happily in response.
Jasper didn’t focus on the meeting in the afternoon, thanks to Alyssa’s injury. He didn’t pay attention to the senior managers who made their respective reports in front of him. (1)
Everyone else noted the minor injury on the corner of Jasper’s mouth. He looked quite pissed off at the same time. Still, no one dared to ask him what happened. They feared him so much that they didn’t dare to say a thing. (1)
Jasper, despite being a bastard son, wielded unquestioned authority in the Beckett Group.
The first wife’s son was born with poor health. He spent his entire life recuperating in Randerland. There was word about his medical condition worsening from time to time. Apparently, the son was now confined in a wheelchair at all times.
Meanwhile, Sophia had two daughters. The first daughter was 25 years old, whereas the second daughter was 20. Unfortunately, they weren’t skilled enough to take over the family company.
This left Jasper as the perfect candidate to become the heir of the Beckett Group. After all, he was competent and talented. If someone 1/2 +15 BONOS “Mr. Beckett, someone has swooped in and snatched the Willow Group’s hotel from us,” one of the senior managers reported.
“Who was it?” It was true that Jasper didn’t pay attention to the meeting, but that didn’t mean he didn’t listen to the reports. He quickly snapped out of his thoughts and focused on the manager.
“It was the KS Group. The Willow Group has transferred the hotel’s ownership to that company. That hotel will be rebranded as the second KS World Hotel in Solana City.” Jasper’s body went stiff before his eyes darkened immediately.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” “Our team was engaged in a negotiation with the representatives from the Willow Group. They were about to seal the deal when Mr. Taylor suddenly swooped in and snatched the deal away. We didn’t think this would happen.” The manager was so intimidated that his face turned ashen.
“Our team was about to seal the deal, you say? I think it’s time for you to retire.” Even though Jasper looked calm, his deep voice could strike fear into everyone.
“Didn’t I tell you that the hotel is just two thousand feet from the Global Studios?
That theme park’s construction will be done in two years! I told you before that we need to secure the hotel in the shortest possible time, even if it means paying twice the rate!
“You kept worrying over nothing. On top of that, you lack the courage to make important decisions! That’s why the KS Group was able to snatch up our deal!
How will you and your team take responsibility for our loss?” The manager could only wipe the sweat off his brow nervously. His knees were already buckling together out of fright.
“You’ll be working in the branch company at Flogand starting next week. If you commit the same mistake again, you’ll be dismissed permanently. No questions asked.” Once Jasper was done speaking, he walked out of the meeting room. Everyone else looked shocked and frightened at the same time.
It appeared that Jasper was in a terrible mood today. Why else would he be so furious?
“Do you think they are plotting for revenge?” Xavier glanced in the rearview mirror while driving Jasper back to Seaview Manor.
“Ms. Gardner attacked Madam Alice recently, after all. Now, Mr. Taylor snatched our business deal from our hands. There’s also the issue about the Gardners‘ products having quality–related problems.” Xavier added, “Do you think Mr. Taylor is the mastermind behind the exposure, Mr. Beckett? Then again, the Gardners deserved to get exposed Jasper raised his head to gaze at the rearview mirror. As a result, Xavier fell silent immediately.
“There’s a tailor shop up ahead. Stop the car.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 42-Soon, Jasper entered the tailor shop.
The old tailor was ironing some clothes at that time. He was surprised to see a handsome customer walking into his shop.
“Ah, it’s you!” “Money is no issue here. I hope that you can help me out with something.” Jasper opened the box with a light frown on his face.
“Oh, dear! What happened to the suit? Why is it all torn?” The tailor’s heart broke at the sight of the torn suit.
“It’s all my fault.” That was the only excuse Jasper could come up with.
“That young lady spent such a long time making this suit just for you. I’ve witnessed the way she struggled when she worked on that suit.
It’s as though I helped make it.” The old tailor shook his head sadly. “What a shame. This is such a nice suit.” “Is there a way for you to fix it?” Jasper asked.
“How am I supposed to do that? I can easily patch up the inner fabric, but it will be difficult to fix the outer fabric.” For some reason, Jasper tensed up when he heard the tailor’s response.
“Just do your best. I don’t care if there are stitches on the outside. At least patch the hole up.” Upon returning to Seaview Manor, Jasper felt that something wasn’t right. The atmosphere felt a little too tense.
“Jasper!” (1 Betty Beckett, also known as Sophia’s oldest daughter, hurried toward him with an anxious look on her face.
“Grandpa came here earlier, and now he’s arguing with Dad in the study. Things seem pretty intense at the moment. Please break up their fight before it’s too late.” “Why are they arguing?” Jasper frowned immediately.
As far as he was concerned, Javier was a good son to Newton. At least, that was what the public thought of him.
Newton was prone to stroke attacks, not to mention he suffered from high blood pressure too. Therefore, he mustn’t get angry no matter what.
If Javier was willing to disregard his identity as a loving son and fight with Newton, there could only be one reason–Sophia.
“Lia and our family are practically family at this point. Now that the Gardner family is facing a crisis, it’s pretty reasonable for Dad to help them, right?” Betty looked quite annoyed at that moment. “The thing is, Grandpa refuses to let Dad help the Gardner Group! Has he gone senile? Helping the Gardner Group is equivalent to helping our family too, right?
“You’ll be marrying Lia soon, Jasper. If we don’t deal with this crisis, our family’s reputation will be ruined as well.” Jasper headed upstairs quickly with a stormy expression on his face.
… Meanwhile, Newton snatched up the ashtray and the cup from the coffee table and threw them to the floor angrily. He was still seated in his wheelchair at that time.
He was already 80 years old. The older he got, the more temperament*l he became. He tended to start throwing anything he could get his hands on whenever things didn’t go his way.
Sophia dabbed her tears away with a handkerchief. She leaned into Javier’s arms while crying softly.
1/2 +15 BONOS “Dad, can you please calm down? Can’t we talk this out?” “Talking things out only works on smart people! An idiot like you deserves to be beaten up instead!” Newton huffed angrily at Javier. “What did I tell you, huh? I told you not to meddle with the Gardner Group’s business! How dare you go against my order!
“You even helped that family clear their stock! Not only that, but you also gave their company the projects belonging to the Beckett Group! How the hell did that woman convince you, huh? Did you seriously think my words no longer hold any weight in this family?” “How could you say such things, Dad?” Javier was furious at Newton as well, but he didn’t dare to make things worse.
“Am I wrong? You’ve been acting like a fool ever since you married this woman!” Newton slapped his armrest angrily.
“Dad, I know you look down on me, but it’s been 20 years since I started dating Javier. I’ve put in so much effort just to raise our children. I did all I could for the sake of the Beckett family. At the same time, I did my best to please you as well.” Sophia continued tearfully, “I’ve never gone against your wishes, nor did I cause any trouble for the Beckett family. That’s because I view my marriage to Javier as a blessing. As long as he’s my husband, nothing else in this world matters to me.” Javier turned to gaze at Sophia affectionately.
But Newton had already seen through her mask of deceit and lies. His body trembled violently out of anger, which caused his wheelchair to tremble as well.
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 43-“But my sister is an upstanding businesswoman. It’s very unfair for her to be slandered like that. Besides, this just had to happen when Lia and Jasper were about to get married …..” Sophia said.
“Upstanding? You mean dishonest!” said Newton scornfully. Sophia froze. “Don’t think I know nothing just because I’m old and no longer on the front lines. The Gardner Group dug its own grave by doing business dishonestly!
Also, you don’t have to threaten me with Jasper. If he wants to marry a woman from the Gardner family, then I shall disown him! You guys can go ahead and date whoever you want. You don’t even have to come to my funeral when I die!” Newton ranted.
“Dad!” Javier sighed. Sophia was crying, but her gaze was icy. She was done being oppressed by Newton for more than twenty years! She wished he would die with regrets!
“Grandpa!” Jasper strode toward Newton and reached out to stroke his back, but Newton pushed him away. “You don’t have to put on an act! You’re just like your father, who also gave his all to some bitch!” said Newton angrily.
“I won’t help the Gardner Group. I’ve made it clear long ago,” Jasper said calmly. Newton’s eyes lit up instantly, and he said, “Really?!” “Yes. Gardner Group is indeed unscrupulous, so I will not help them.” “What about you and that Gardner girl “Lia has nothing to do with this. The marriage will still proceed,” said Jasper plainly.
Newton sighed and said, “Fine, fine. At least you’re aware of something. I haven’t doted on you in vain! You’re a little better than your foolish father!” Newton waved a hand defeatedly. He didn’t understand what had gotten into his grandson’s head to make him give up on a good girl like Alice and marry a trouble–making wench!
“Aunt Sophia.” Jasper looked at Sophia and said coldly, “Rosaline is your sister, so I can understand if you want to help your own family.
but on one condition. You cannot harm the interests of the Beckett Group.
“Otherwise, wouldn’t you be going against your own saying about doing everything for the good of the Beckett family?” Sophia was left speechless and flushed. What an imbecile! He had been such a coward when he was a kid that he wouldn’t make a sound even if in pain. Now that he was an adult, he had become a harsh and sharp–tongued person!
“Dad, although Lia is my fiancée, I am a very unbiased person. I never involve my private relationships in work–related matters. I hope that you will always put the company’s interests first as the chairman,” said Jasper. His tone was fully businesslike.
Newton’s expression darkened because Jasper was implying that he was being unreasonable. He had no choice but to bite the bullet and say, “It’s not all because of Sophia that I’m helping Gardner Group.
“I went to Yoarkley to attend a conference and discuss a major overseas project, but the other party called off the meeting at the last minute. In the end, I found out that it was because he was intercepted by the president of KS Group, Jonah Taylor.
“I have no idea what Jonah offered him, but he dropped his intentions of cooperating with our company. So many things happened, and everything had to do with the Taylor Group. They are obviously going against us. How could I let them win again and bully us?” “Is that so?” said Jasper.
The Beckett Group and Taylor Group had been rivals for over a century. One of Taylor Group’s elders had even vowed never to let anyone from their family marry a Beckett. They had even fought in shopping malls before, and both parties were at a stalemate.
Jonah showed his animosity by thwarting the Beckett Group’s hotel project. He had even caused trouble abroad.
A thought struck Jasper, and he asked hurriedly, “Dad, did you say that you ran into Jonah in Yoarkley?” “Yes.” “Today?” “Of course.” 1/2 meeting? Could that man not have been Jonah? If not, then who was he?
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 44-The drama ended with Jasper promising not to meddle in the Gardner Group’s business.
After Sophia and Javier left, Newton looked around at the mess in anger. “What a shame! All the men in our family just have to fall for those scheming Gardner women!” Jasper bent down to pick up the things on the floor while his mind spun. Could someone have replaced Jonah at the meeting in Yoarkley?
But he knew his father wouldn’t have recognized the wrong person. They had fought twice at a shopping mall. There was no way Newton could have been mistaken unless he was showing early signs of dementia.
Jasper picked up a hand fan and asked, “Grandpa, is this yours?” Newton sighed and said, “Just look at me. I must have lost my senses in anger. Bring it to me.” Newton’s gaze softened, and he said, “Alice made me this fan herself. The patterns and calligraphy are all her own work.” Alice knew calligraphy? She also knew how to draw?
Jasper was stunned for a moment, and he didn’t know how to respond. When she was with him, she was disciplined and dull.
Alice was very mundane compared to Liana, who knew how to play the piano, dance, and sing. Besides being gentle, obedient, and pretty, Alice had no other talents. She was no different than the maids at home.
But why had she started shining brightly like a diamond after leaving him? She exuded confidence now. And her previously unknown abilities were being revealed one by one, surprising him.
Was it because she thought that he did not deserve her at her best, but Jonah did? So she didn’t love him, but was only fulfilling her duties – as his wife to please him. True love was what she felt for Jonah, wasn’t it?
“Last time, Alice would visit me every weekend and sometimes go for a walk with me. Other times, she would accompany me in the study for the entire afternoon, but she didn’t mind. She would read beside me or write calligraphy.
(1)
“Her calligraphy and drawing skills are pretty good. The moment she put pen to paper, I could tell she had more than ten years of experience. She wrote with poise and skill. Her graceful air tells me that she’s from a distinguished family,” said Newton.
He pouted and sighed. “She’s so much better than that decadent Gardner girl.
But alas, you’re blinded by love and can’t tell what’s good for you.” Newton pursed his lips and opened the hand fan. There was one meaningful and beautifully written prose on it. It said, “If I were young again, I would make a mountain of memories.” Jasper was thunderstruck. His sharp gaze swept over the two lines of words intently. Her writing and style looked identical to the calligraphy hanging in Alyssa’s office, the one she had wanted to gift him!
He suddenly remembered seeing Alice at the hotel Alyssa was in charge of. He also recalled hearing Alice’s footsteps in the corridor when he was leaving Alyssa’s office that day. Could Alice know Alyssa?
How could there be such a coincidence? There was no way Alyssa and Alice were one and the same person, right? How could it be? Alice was so naive and innocent. It was impossible for her to be cunning like Alyssa!
Meanwhile, at Heightsnew Villa in Belbanks, Jonah had just returned from a business trip in Yoarkley. He was having a meal with his father and Silas. He reported on the progress from his trip to Yoarkley.
Winston nodded after listening. A pleased expression appeared on his stern face. His eldest son was good at everything but was too religious. No amount of power, fame, or wealth could stop him from becoming a pastor. Why was he so obsessed?
“Jonah, it’s not like you to suddenly spoil the Beckett Group’s soup like this.” Winston took a sip of red wine and savored its taste. “Don’t you always advocate dealing with problems peacefully? Why did you use such an underhanded method this time? You seem a bit like the younger version of me.” “Peace is like a cloud in the sky. It looks like it’s always there. But you’ll never know when the wind will blow it away.” answered Jonah philosophically. Then he elegantly sipped his water. Winston smiled to himself. Of course, this was Jonah avenging his little sister by jeopardizing the Beckett Group!
time!” Winston patted Jonah’s shoulder with a bright and happy expression.
+15 BONOS Winston continued, “Besides, Javier and I are rivals. His grandfather bullied your great–grandmother. It’s never too late to take revenge!” Jonah was speechless while Silas thought how good their family was at holding a grudge for ages! (1
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 45-“By the way, how’s Lyse doing in Solana City? She was ruthless in taking out the Gardner Group. But if she doesn’t hold up well, I’m afraid she will bring their wrath upon herself.
“Liam and Axel won’t return, so you two must protect her at all times, understood?” Winston said plainly, but there was a caring look in his eyes.
“Yes, Dad.” “Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll kill whoever dares to bully Lyse!” “Killing isn’t necessary, but you can make them wish they were dead,” Winston said. Then, he sipped his wine.
After dinner, Winston and Jonah left the table first. When Silas was about to leave, he realized his brother had left his phone on the table. Right then, it started vibrating, and he saw Jasper’s name on the screen. Silas was tipsy.
He scanned his surroundings and coughed softly before answering the phone.
“Is anything the matter, Mr. Beckett?” “I’m looking for Alice,” said Jasper. His tone made Silas angry.
“What’s your problem, Jasper? Who gave you the right to make Alice answer your call?” Jasper fell silent for a moment before asking, “Are you Jonah?” Silas thought Jasper had realized something. Yet, he still said, “Mr. Beckett, if you’re drunk, you can call your fiancée to keep you entertained. I don’t have time to waste on you.” “Jonah, if you want to stand up for Alice, then you should use upstanding methods. Don’t play dirty tricks behind other people’s backs,” said Jasper icily.
“Hah, Jasper. You’re the most shameless person I know!” Silas gritted his teeth and said, “I’m sure you know who slandered Alice with dirty tactics first.
“If you want to beg for mercy on behalf of your fiancée and her family, then use the right attitude. Stop being the pot calling the kettle black. You’re so greedy it’s embarrassing.” Jasper clenched his fists furiously, He could speak fluently and confidently at countless conferences. Yet, he was being rendered speechless by a senior prosecutor right then.
Silas continued speaking. “But I will tell you straight to your face that I won’t let you guys off the hook even if you get on your knees and beg me. I will make anyone who bullies Alice pay a painful price!” With that, Silas hung up.
Jasper sat in his study, staring at the dark screen of his phone. Veins bulged on his forehead. He was gripping his phone so hard that it might break.
“Mr. Beckett!” Xavier hurried into the study. When he saw his boss‘ stormy expression, his breath caught in his throat.
“What?” barked Jasper.
“I’ve run investigations as per your orders. However, I could only uncover a little information on Jonah, the eldest son of Mr. Taylor’s legitimate wife, Vivian Whitaker. As for his other four siblings, their case files are highly classified and can’t be accessed!” Jasper stared at Xavier fiercely. Xavier paled. He gulped and said, “Why don’t I ask for a pay cut at the HR department tomorrow Meanwhile, Alyssa had just finished taking a bubble bath. She walked downstairs with a beauty mask on her face. She was looking for some wine to drink.
“Ms. Alyssa, just tell me if you need anything. I’ll get it for you. It’s inconvenient for you to walk around,” said Sean as he hurried over to her worriedly.
Alyssa replied, “It’s okay. I just want to get a bottle of red wine from the cellar.
It’s already 9:00 pm. Why are you still in your suit?” Alyssa looked him up and down and said, “Treat this place like your own home.
Don’t be shy. Change into casual clothes when you come back. If you’re like this, I’ll feel like I’m at work 24/7. It makes me anxious.” There was another reason. Sean would make her think of Jasper. It was embarrassing to even talk about it.
+15 BONOS Jasper was an extremely abstinent man. When he got back to Seaview Manor, he would coop himself up in the study and seldom come out. Jasper would only take off his armor–his suit, and change into dark blue pajamas right before going to bed.
He was elegant and classy, but it was suffocating. However, only Alyssa knew that there was a passionate soul hidden behind his frigid façade.
“Ms. Alyssa? Ms. Alyssa?” Sean said with his head cocked. (1)
“Huh?” Alyssa got her senses back. She felt her cheeks burning, and her eyes were gleaming.
“Your face… is very flushed.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 46-“Is Is it?” Alyssa touched her face. It felt as warm as toast. She immediately looked away shyly. “Maybe it’s because I’ve had a little to drink.” “Weren’t you on your way to the cellar? Your face is red before you’ve even had a drop.” Sean pointed out. He was an elite employee but an amateur when it came to real life. He had no idea that Alyssa was just feeling horny.
“You’re so annoying!” Alyssa rolled her eyes at him and walked off in embarrassment.
Sean was left standing there miserably. He didn’t know how he had offended her. He had no choice but to tag along behind her.
They arrived at the wine cellar. It held nearly a thousand bottles of red wine, all of which were prepared for Alyssa by Jasper. He knew that she had a hobby of having a drink or two. (1)
Every bottle of wine was expensive, and many of them were limited editions bought at auctions.
Alyssa owned more than twenty bottles of some wines that even Winston didn’t have. If she were to sell them, she could afford two villas in Solana City.
Alyssa scanned the racks and chose a bottle of Romani Conti. She tiptoed to take it, but she still couldn’t reach it.
Sean walked behind her, and his shadow loomed over her. Then, he took the bottle of wine for her effortlessly. They were standing so close that he could smell the sweet scent of her hair. His heart started thumping wildly, and he blushed. “Here, Ms. Alyssa.” “Tut tut, how nice to have a secretary who’s six feet tall. I don’t even have to buy a ladder.” However, her ideal man was taller than six feet- someone like Jasper.
Anyone shorter than him wasn’t her cup of tea.
She scolded herself for thinking of him again. The thought of him made her feel tipsier than wine.
“Ms. Alyssa, I’ll help you open it. It’s difficult for you to do it with one hand Without a word, Alyssa smashed her cast against the edge of a table, and her arm came free. “It’s so clunky. I already wanted to break it long ago,” she said.
Sean was dumbfounded.
“Back then, during the war, breaking an arm or dislocating a joint was just a small matter. I’ve witnessed people getting their legs blasted off. A comrade I had just been joking with in the afternoon would be brought back with countless bullets in him and half his face gone in the evening.” Alyssa calmly told Sean about the brutality of war with the expression of a person who had been through life and death. Sean was shocked and could not imagine how a privileged and sheltered woman like her had made it through those times.
Once they had let the wine breathe, messages started popping up in the Secret Society group chat.
Axel: “Silas, I’m busy, so I haven’t had the time to understand how a person in the judicial department like you can also be so unbothered about everything. Did you know Jasper asked someone to hack into our case files secretly? Thank goodness I reacted quickly. I’ve upgraded the security to grade S. That idiot is no match for me.” Alyssa’s eyes widened in shock.
Silas: “F! Does he suspect something?” Axel: “Hey, why are you swearing at me? Show some respect!” Silas: “F you!” Axel: “You wanna fight? You couldn’t win even if I had my hands tied behind my back.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 47-Alyssa: “That’s enough! You guys are so childish. Jasper must have investigated us because he suspects Silas‘ identity. You showed up twice to protect me, so I think he realized you aren’t Jonah. If that’s the case, then you guys don’t have to hide anymore. If he wants an answer, I’ll give him an answer!” The moment she spoke up, her older brothers immediately stopped fooling around.
Alyssa’s gaze darkened as she swirled the red wine in her glass.
The weekend arrived in the blink of an eye.
After public pressure, the Gardner Group held a press conference at a five–star hotel. A lot of reporters showed up.
The Gardner family wasn’t that influential on their own. Liana’s engagement with Jasper made the Gardner family the center of attention overnight.
A black Maybach was parked by the roadside opposite the hotel’s entrance.
Inside it, Jasper watched the press conference on his iPad indifferently.
“Mr. Beckett, Mr. Newton reminded you not to bother about Gardner Group.” Xavier said worriedly, “Wouldn’t your bond with your father be affected if you keep going against him? I’m worried that Mrs. Beckett will talk bad about you.” “It won’t affect me. I won’t help the Gardner Group,” said Jasper coldly. “As for my father, there wasn’t any bond between us, to begin with.” Xavier sighed. His boss looked grand on the outside, but he was actually an outcast in the Beckett family. Jasper had nobody to vent to.
The press conference started. With everyone watching, Dylan Gardner walked onstage in a stately manner with his chin held high. He looked displeased and wronged, as if he had suffered severe unfair treatment.
“You all know that Elysian Home, a Gardner Group subsidiary, has 32 outlets in Solana City and over 400 nationwide. It’s a well–known brand. The negativity this time is deliberate, aimed at damaging Gardner Group’s professional image!” Dylan declared.
Xavier pursed his lips while looking at the screen. “What an arrogant man he is.
How can he be so self–righteous when his company’s products obviously have serious quality issues? He’s so shameless!” Jasper said nothing, but his frown deepened.
“But the first party to expose Elysian Home’s quality issues is a hotel under KS Group. KS Group’s reputation is respected nationwide.
They have never slandered their competitors for their own gain. That’s why I think Elysian Home is not simply being targeted by someone.
What are your thoughts on this?” the reporter asked sarcastically.
Dylan’s expression darkened immediately. He responded, “Elysian Home has been here for more than a decade. This is the first time we’ve faced this kind of incident. I am also anxious and worried.” “Mr. Gardner, does this mean you admit to having quality issues? Besides, if I remember correctly, a serious complaint was lodged against you early last year.
I’m sure everyone here remembers the incident?” The reporter shot Dylan another question and refreshed everyone’s memory.
Dylan’s expression grew stormy, and he clenched his fists tightly.
Meanwhile, in the underground car park, Alyssa sat in her sports car. She was watching a live stream of the press conference. She smirked. No one could have guessed that she had sent that reporter.
“In the two years Dylan became CEO, he’s pocketed tons of profit and done whatever he wanted. The company keeps having problems. Dylan is also about to squander all of his family’s wealth,” said Alyssa.
Sean laughed mirthlessly and said, “But I didn’t think he was so bold to dare to lie publicly at a press conference. Is he so confident that no one knows his Achilles heel?” Alyssa replied, “He thinks he has a trump card. That’s why he dares to speak so pompously.” Alyssa narrowed her eyes slyly and took a packet of chocolate from Sean’s coat pocket. Then, she unwrapped it and put the piece of chocolate into her mouth.
“Just wait and see. He’ll play his trump card once he gets pushed to the edge, and our opportunity will be here.” 1/1
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 48-After Alyssa finished the chocolate, she put the remaining bar back in Sean’s breast pocket and patted his chest. She said, “You’re pretty in shape.” Sean’s heart thumped wildly, and he blushed. He was four years older than her.
He had visited the Taylor residence often when he was a kid. His father had been the head of KS Group’s legal department and was valued by Winston very much.
Sean remembered that the first time he saw Alyssa was in the back garden of Heightsnew Villa. He had spotted the pretty little girl from far off, and she had raced toward him adorably.
He had thought that he was dreaming, so he rubbed his eyes. She appeared before him wearing a white dress that made her look like an angel. “Hey, do you have any candy?” Alyssa hopped off her skateboard. She gave it a kick and caught it in her hand.
“Huh?” Sean was flustered and cursed at himself for having feelings for a girl younger than him. However, she was just too beautiful. Who wouldn’t be mesmerized?
“It’s fine if you don’t …” Alyssa sighed in disappointment and put down her skateboard.
Just as she was about to leave, Sean grabbed her arm. It was so thin that he could clamp his whole hand around it. “Wait a minute.” Sean retrieved a piece of chocolate from his pocket. He handed it to her and said, “Does this count?” “Wow! Thank you!” Alyssa smiled brightly and took the chocolate. She ripped off the wrapper at once and took a bite. Then, she smiled in satisfaction. (1)
From then on, Sean would bring chocolate or candy whenever he visited Heightsnew Villa as if he were a candy seller. The habit lasted till this day. As long as Alyssa craved candy and he was with her, then there would definitely be candy.
The atmosphere was heated at the press conference.
Dylan was very triggered as he stared at the reporter and shouted angrily, “I’m going to say this again! There are no quality issues with any of the Gardner Group’s products! I guarantee you personally!” “Why did all the hotels under KS Group nationwide withdraw your products overnight if there are no quality issues? Mr. Gardner, please give us a reasonable explanation. It appears too suspicious,” said the reporter firmly. The chat on the Twitter livestream was in an uproar.
“Guarantee it personally? That’s a powerful statement. I suddenly think that Mr.
Gardner is telling the truth.” “It doesn’t mean much coming from someone like him.” “I don’t care if there really are issues. I’m going to refund everything. I can’t even bear the sight of Mr. Gardner. Couldn’t they have chosen another more likable spokesperson?” “You guys want an explanation, don’t you? Fine! I’ll give you an explanation!” said Dylan.
With a threatening gaze, he said, “I do need to reflect on myself for letting something like this happen. I made a mistake in my management. With hundreds of Elysian Home outlets nationwide, it’s hard to check each one personally. I can’t do it all alone!
“Someone within Gardner Group acted selfishly and harmed the company’s interests. We’ve taken action against that person and devised solutions to address the issues caused. However, the person couldn’t have accomplished it on his own. Someone in KS Group must have abetted him! Yet KS Group has pushed all responsibility to us. Isn’t this too much?” The crowd went into an uproar.
“Dylan is full of crap. How dare he drag the Taylor Group into this? How shameless!” Xavier started defending the Taylor family. He couldn’t bear Dylan’s shameless behavior.
Jasper’s gaze was sharp and cold.
“Bring up the evidence I found!” commanded Dylan. Instantly, photos and bank statements appeared on the big screen. “This is the chat history between KS World Hotel’s manager, Michael Grant, and the manager of Elysian Home. The photos show them meeting in private and Michael receiving a huge amount of bribes! (1)
“Gardner Group is not involved. It’s all because Michael Grant is corrupt. He colluded with my employee to buy cheap materials! Gardner Group is also a victim! KS Group protected itself and dragged us into trouble.
Can a big company bully others so openly? We have to use 1/2 +15 BONOS Dylan got into his act better the more he spoke. He almost believed his own words! That new CEO from the Taylor family couldn’t have guessed what he had had up his sleeve, could she? She must be stunned! (1 He had decided to make Michael the scapegoat right from the start. So he had intentionally left evidence since the first time he approached Michael. It was all so he could use it as a trump card during a crisis!
Xavier clenched his fists and said, “This is bad. Now the online community is going to attack Taylor Group. They’ll say that the Taylors are abusing their power and bullying small businesses.” Jasper frowned. His expression was as cold as ice. Just as Dylan was enjoying himself, a sharp noise blared from the speakers in the conference hall.
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 49-Then, the voices of two men sounded out!
“Mr. Gardner, I wouldn’t have used cheap second–hand mattresses to replace high–end ones if it wasn’t to help you make money! But I got caught by that new CEO of Taylor Group and lost my job. No one in Solana City will accept me! You can’t just watch me suffer!” “Don’t tell me you were helping me. Haven’t you also pocketed a hefty sum?
your life jobless.” One of the voices was Michael Grant’s, and the other was Dylan Gardner’s! The reporters were flabbergasted.
Dylan broke out into a sweat. He steadied himself against the table as he nearly lost his balance. “What is this?! Who played it? Switch it off! Hurry up!” The audio clip stopped playing, but new images appeared on the screen. They were pictures of Michael and Dylan visiting a nightclub together!
“Mr. Gardner! This is not what you promised me! You promised to protect me!” “I have protected you. I haven’t ratted you out even after this incident got exposed. Michael, just go into hiding, keep your mouth shut, and you’ll be fine. If you dare run your mouth, I’ll make sure that you suffer!” The pictures and audio clips were solid evidence.
Dylan yelled fiercely while his face was as red as a tomato. “They’re fake!
They’re all fake! The person in the audio clip isn’t me! Someone is setting me up!” At that moment, a loud bang ripped the air. The conference hall doors burst open, and two rows of men filed in. They were all wearing suits with a red badge on their lapels.
Then, Silas walked in. He attracted everyone’s attention. He led the two rows of officers to Dylan with an intimidating air. “Dylan Gardner, CEO of Gardner Group. Now that there is solid evidence, KS Group has formally charged you with abuse of power, bribery, and other crimes. Take him away!” said Silas.
“That’s nonsense! I didn’t do it! I didn’t!” The two rows of officers surged forward and dragged a struggling Dylan outside. All the cameras were pointed at him.
Everybody on the Internet witnessed the dramatic scene. What a turn of the tables!
“What a plot twist! This press conference is even more interesting than a movie!” “It turns out that KS Group is the real victim! Dylan was the pot calling the kettle black and threw shade on the Taylor Group for no reason!” “Dylan’s character is worse than trash! He’s disgusting!” “How fucking interesting! Who exposed all the evidence? It was such great timing!” Xavier clapped his hands in amusement. “The Gardner Group will never rise again!” “That was a set–up,” said Jasper coldly.
“Huh?” “The Taylor Group already guessed that Dylan would push all the blame on Michael. That’s why they sent that reporter to ask those critical questions and push Dylan to the edge so he would use Michael to save his own ass. Then, they exposed the evidence of Dylan and Michael colluding with each other to give them the final blow.” … “What you mean is that reporter was sent by the Taylor Group?” Xavier exclaimed in shock.
“Most probably. And the officers too.” Jasper’s expression was unfathomable.
Although he had watched Liana’s brother being arrested, he showed no emotion.
Before Dylan had pushed the blame on Taylor Group, Jasper had thought that they didn’t have to cause such a big fuss. However, when that idiot had lied and altered the facts, Jasper’s last feelings of mercy toward the Gardner Group disappeared.
After Dylan had been taken away and the officers dispersed, the cameras captured the stern–looking Silas. The people watching the live stream went into an uproar again.
+15 BONOS “He has my heart! Although he’s so hot, he’s not a celebrity but a law enforcer!” Jasper narrowed his eyes and jerked forward in his seat. He pinned his gaze on Silas. This was the same man he had met at the bar and the hospital! He had been so intimate with Alice and looked exactly like Jonah!
Who exactly was he?
Jasper took a screenshot. He uploaded it onto the facial recognition app he had developed himself. After ten minutes of scanning and searching, the results appeared. “Silas Taylor, Officer of Solana City’s Investigative Bureau.”
Can't Win Me Back Chapter 50-The picture that appeared was from the court’s official webpage. It was from three years ago. Silas was wearing a robe and debating in court passionately.
The app Jasper developed could find information on any person within five minutes. All it needed was a clear image of them uploaded to the app. The results were more accurate than those from search engines.
However, it had taken up to ten minutes to search Silas up. He was obviously someone who very seldom went out in public or took pictures. He didn’t have any social media accounts either. He was just an officer, but why was he so secretive?
“Jonah Taylor… Silas Taylor…” Jasper thought for a moment and suddenly widened his eyes. “Could he be 19 Jasper narrowed his eyes, and a stormy expression appeared on his face. His mouth went dry. He found it hard to breathe. So Alice never rejected anyone and immediately got close to Jonah after leaving him. Now, she had something going on with another guy from the Taylor family! Who did she think she was?
Right then, Jasper heard the sound of a sports car coming from behind. He looked out the window as a black sports car zoomed past. It was Alice’s car!
Why would she be here? Things weren’t that simple!
He felt as if a fire was burning in his chest. He smashed his fist against the window. “Xavier! Chase after that car!” The hotel entrance was swarming with reporters, and the officers had to go to a lot of trouble to get Dylan into the car. The press conference ended in disaster. Silas did not follow them to the car but went to the back exit to wait for his sister patiently. A few minutes later, a black sports car stopped before him.
Sean wound down the window and said, “Good day, Mr. Silas.” “Hello, Sean!” Silas stooped to look at Alyssa, who was leaning against the passenger seat. He smiled and pinched his sister’s cheek. “It seems like Sean has been taking good care of you lately. You’ve even grown chubbier.” “I did not!” Alyssa said angrily and pouted.
“You obviously did. You look even more adorable!” Her brother was saying that she had gained weight the moment they met. How insensitive! No wonder he had been single since he was born! Meanwhile, Jasper saw them being intimate with each other. His expression darkened, and he clenched his fists tightly.
Xavier trembled when he saw Jasper’s expression in the rear–view mirror. Even so, he thought it was normal for Alice to have so many admirers. After all, she was such an outstanding and beautiful woman. In fact, his boss was the odd one out for not appreciating her.
“What do you think? Do I look handsome today?” Silas raised his eyebrows and looked at his sister playfully.
“Yes, yes, you’re very handsome. You’ve raked in a huge fanbase for yourself this time. A lot of girls are searching for you online. You’re already on the trending search list,” said Alyssa. She leaned against the door and looked at Silas.
Jasper glanced at his ex–wife and felt his heart skip a beat. For some reason, he wished that he was in Silas‘ shoes so that he could look at her in the same way. He wanted to see her cheerful expression because she had never smiled at him like that before.
Silas snorted and said, “So what if the whole world likes me? I only want attention from my precious little sister.” “You’re so corny. A romantic image doesn’t suit you. Being a joker suits you better!” They laughed and returned to the main topic of conversation. “Silas, I need you to help me with what’s coming too.” Alyssa frowned and said, “Don’t let that idiot who slandered us off the hook easily.” “Don’t worry. He’ll need to spend at least three years in jail for all his crimes. I will never give him a chance to reduce his sentence or let anyone bail him out!” Then, Silas smiled proudly and said, “But we couldn’t have done it without you.
You’re really very good at planning. Gardner fell for every trap you set up for him. How cooperative. If every bad guy is as predictable as him, it will save law enforcers a lot of trouble.” Dylan was very foolish indeed. However, KS Group could only charge him because Michael Grant agreed to be a witness and expose Dylan for using him to embezzle funds.
