Ch. 266..270: Fatal Kiss Of The Vampire Chapter 266-270
Chapter 266: I Don’t To Go Home
Once Kylie and Stephen were back on the road, she looked at him and said, “The Lamborghini is not the best sports car out there. Why do you like them so much?”
Stephen smiled and said, “One of my friends likes them. I never gave it much thought but, I suppose I drive this car in his honor.”
“I get that,” Kylie nodded. “I have a friend who turns me on to certain vehicles in much the same way.”
“An ex-boyfriend?” Stephen wondered.
“Nope,” Kylie laughed. “An online friend.”
Stephen asked, “Have you ever met any of your online friends in person?”
Kylie frowned, and she said, “I haven’t met my friend in person, but I would really like to. We have been friends for a very long time, and it just seems wrong that we’ve never met.”
“If you met him,” Stephen asked, “what would you want to say to him?”
Kylie looked at Stephen curiously. Their talk was casual, but for some reason, he seemed nervous, anxious even. There was a thin sheen of sweat on his forehead, and his hands were shaking a little bit. It was almost as if he had a special interest in Stars. What that could be, though, she couldn’t fathom.
“If I could see him in person,” she said, “I would thank him for our friendship. There have been moments that, without him as my sounding board and without his advice, I never would have gotten through them.”
Without thinking, Stephen put his hand on her knee. He wanted to admit that he was Stars but, after all the time that he passed, he didn’t want to risk the friendship that they had.
Kylie put her hand on his and gently moved it off of her knee. “Don’t take this the wrong way,” she sighed. “I know that you didn’t mean anything, but physical touching makes me nervous.”
“I’m sorry,” Stephen said as he drew back his hand. “I didn’t mean anything by it.”
Kylie pursed her lips, and she asked Stephen if he would mind if they changed the subject. Stephen nodded, and he said, “Go for it.”
Kylie looked at Stephen and said, “Sometimes, Dora makes me nervous. How much do you know about her?”
Stephen looked at her curiously. “Where is this coming from?” he wondered.
Kylie sighed, and she said, “There are some things that I just can’t tell you. I can only tell you that Ethan is with Dora now. They have a three-day agreement, and I am worried about him.”
“I don’t understand,” Stephen replied. “What is a three-day agreement? Does that mean that they have to live together for three days? If she needs to be taken care of, I can help her find professional doctors and nurses – there is no need for them to live together, especially since he has you – what will people think if they see the two of them together? It could be a disaster!”
“She’s not sick,” Kylie muttered as she tried to find the words to best articulate what she was trying to say. “Honestly, I don’t understand the purpose of the three-day agreement… Ethan and I spoke today, and he said that he would pick Dora and me up together, but I couldn’t get a hold of him after work. I waited and waited and waited, but he just didn’t show up…
“I went back into the building,” she continued, “and I was told that Dora had left an hour earlier. I called Ethan, but he didn’t pick up. I called Nate, but he didn’t know where he was either. I called two of his other close affiliates and got the same replies. I’m worried that something happened to him and, some part of me is concerned that Dora did something to him, something nefarious.
“Instead of taking me home, could you take me to Dora’s house?”
“I’m sure that he is okay,” Stephen said, “but I don’t see any reason not to check her house out…”
Stephen and Kylie arrived at Dora’s house, and the first thing she noticed was that the light was on in Dora’s bedroom window. Once the engine was off, Kylie looked at Stephen and said, “Thanks for the ride. I’ll go check things out. Please wait for me in the car.”
“It’s too dangerous to go up alone,” Stephen said as he jumped out of the car and began to follow her.
Kylie nodded and, as they walked up to the door, she thanked him. “I wanted to ask for your help,” she admitted, “but I didn’t think that I had a right to.”
“I’m here for you,” Stephen said as he knocked on the door. When no one answered, he knocked again and shouted, “Dora, Dora Hilton! You may as well answer the door. We know that you’re home. We saw the light on in your bedroom!”
After knocking for a while, the next-door neighbor opened the door. She looked at Stephen, then at Kylie. “Who are you looking for?” she wondered.
Kylie walked over, introduced herself, and said, “I’m looking for your neighbor, Dora Hilton.”
The neighbor thought about it for a few minutes, shrugged, and said, “I saw her leave with a man earlier. They looked pretty chummy. I saw them yesterday, and with how close they were, I assumed that she was his mistress…”
Hearing this, Kylie felt a rage burning up inside her, but she kept it in check.
“That’s so weird,” Stephen said as he prepared a lie on the fly. “Dora is our friend, and we were supposed to go to the movies together…”
“Why don’t you check the theater,” the neighbor suggested. “Perhaps she thought she was supposed to meet you guys there…”
“That sounds like a good idea,” Stephen replied. “Thank you for your help.”
Once the neighbor had the door shut, she went into the dining room and sat down at the table. She looked across it to the man who’d been waiting for her. “I did what you asked. Are we done now? Can I leave now?”
The man threw a stack of bills on the coffee table and stood up. “Wait a half an hour longer,” He said, “and then you are free to go.”
The woman hurriedly picked up the money and shoved it into her purse. She looked the man in the eyes and said, “I hope this turns out the way that you planned…”
Stephen opened the passenger seat for Kylie and helped her in. She was so lost it thought that she was barely functional. He strapped her seatbelt across her chest, closed the door, and walked around to the driver’s side. Once he was inside, he said, “I’ll take you home, and then I’ll go looking for Ethan.”
“I don’t want to go home,” Kylie replied, with her mouth only half-open. She had her head leaning against the car window, and her eyes were fixed on Dora’s bedroom window. “I still think they might be here,” she sighed. “Otherwise, why would her bedroom window be open?”
“We could still check out the cinema,” Stephen said. “Even if they are here unless they answer the door, there is no way of knowing for sure one way or the other.”
“Why not,” Kylie agreed. “Let’s go check out the cinema. At the very least, it will keep us busy, and our minds occupied. I am sure that, if we put our brains together, even if the theater doesn’t pan out, we should be able to think up other places to check out.”
Stephen looked at Kylie empathetically and said, “I am glad that you trust me enough to allow me to be of some service to you. I am glad to have you as a friend.”
“I am glad to have you as a friend, too,” Kylie replied.
Two movies were playing at the cinema, and they had both been directed by Miller, which meant that the theater was extremely busy. To make matters even worse, ever since she had made the papers, random people had begun to approach and accost her wherever she went, and it was even worse here, where her name was associated with Miller’s. Once Stephen recognized the problem, though, he found her a mask to cover her identity.
After all that effort, it was unfortunate that they didn’t find Ethan or Dora. Already, it was beginning to feel like they never would.
“Is it possible that they are not at the cinema?” Kylie wondered. “Now that I think about it, he doesn’t even like going to the movies…”
“Well,” Stephen sighed, “don’t you think you should have mentioned that earlier?!?!?!?”
“I’m sorry,” Kylie cried. “My thoughts are so jumbled up; I am not thinking clearly.”
Stephen gave Kylie a big hug, and she clung to him like a drowning man who’d just been thrown a lifeline. “Don’t worry,” Stephen whispered as he rubbed her back. “Tomorrow is Old Mr. Parker’s birthday party. I can’t imagine Ethan not showing up. At the very least, the two of you should be able to talk then.”
Chapter 267:Tell Me Where Have You Been?
It was hard for Kylie to fall asleep without someone else sleeping with her. She was used to having Ethan beside her, used to his warm body and the smell of his skin. Awake and alone, her thoughts got away from her. Not only was she alone, but she had no idea where Ethan was or what he was up to. The agreement between Dora and Ethan was supposed to end the next day, but she had no idea what her relationship with him would look like going forward. She didn’t know if she would accept his apology or not. She didn’t even know if he would apologize…
She rolled onto her stomach and bit the pillow to keep herself from crying. Crying only made things worse. She turned on the bedside lamp, leaned against the bedside table and took out her phone. She logged into Facebook, and, much to her relief, Stars was online.
Kylie: “Stars, what time is it where you are?”
Stars: “It is almost time for the sun to rise.”
Kylie: “Things have been hard for me lately. I am being bullied. I wish you were here.”
Stars: “If someone dares to touch your hair, I’ll cut him into pieces.”
Kylie snorted with laughter, and she sent Stars a series of happy emojis.
Stars: “Kylie, you may not believe it, but I have troubles of my own. I’m in love with a married woman. If you were me, what would you do?”
Kylie blinked her eyes as she thought about his troubles. She believed that as long as two people loved each other, then nothing could stand between them – and she told him so.
Stars: “Do you really think so?”
Kylie: “Sure. As long as it’s true love, that is what I believe.”
Stars: “Thank you. You have been a lot of help.”
After texting with Stars, Kylie was surprised by how quickly she fell asleep.
Ethan woke up in Sunshine Garden. His head ached, and he rubbed his temples in an attempt to alleviate some of the tension. His head felt foggy, and his vision was hazy. The pain was a side effect of the medicine he took at night, but it never failed to catch him off guard in the morning.
He sat up slowly and, as he recovered from the dizziness, his eyes sharpened. He looked around the room and found his clothes folded on a chair. He sat up with a snap and looked around the room. He focused on the sounds around him. Apart from his own breathing, he couldn’t hear anything.
He dressed quickly and went out into the apartment. He looked around and was surprised to find that he was alone. Not even Dora was there. Not only had she left, but she had taken all of her changes of clothes with her. “Curiouser and Curiouser,” he whispered, quoting Alice.
Thinking about what she’d said to him the night before, he couldn’t believe that she’d slipped away in the way that she had. At the very least, they had unfinished business. She had revealed so much to him, filling in holes in his life that he’d long since accepted as a mystery that would never be resolved, but he still had many questions. If he could, he would like to see if Dora had any more answers.
Ethan found his cell phone, turned it on, and was astonished when he saw how many calls he’d missed: Kylie, Stephen, and Nate. He didn’t want to talk to anyone, though, so he shut his phone down and put it into his pocket. With that done, he grabbed his coat, threw on his shoes, and left the apartment.
A few blocks away, he happened to run into Ken. “What luck!” he laughed as he wrapped his large hands around the man’s throat.
“Wha – at?” Ken gasped as Ethan gradually tightened his grip on his neck. “What are you doing? You son of a bitch!”
Ethan pushed his thumb into Ken’s trachea and demanded to know what he was doing there.
By now, Ken could barely speak at a whisper. “I’m here to catch you with your mistress!” Ken replied as Ethan forced him to his knees.
“Once Kylie knows that you have had an affair with another woman,” Ken continued, “I don’t think that she will still want to be with you!”
Ethan looked him in the eyes and showed him his teeth. “You should know,” he hissed, “that I could kill you right now. All I would have to do is apply a little more pressure to your throat, and that would be that.”
Hearing this, Ken’s eyes bulged. He was petrified.
Ethan laughed and did two things simultaneously. As he let Ken go, he brought his knee up, and it connected – HARD – underneath his chin. Ken flew backward, and a fountain of blood shot up from his mouth, splashing all over his face.
Ethan walked over to where Ken was lying. He leaned down and whispered in his ear. “If that was just a warning,” he said, “imagine what I might do if I really wanted to inflict pain on you…”
Ken closed his eyes and lost consciousness.
When Ken came to, all that he could think about was what Ethan had said. He did not, for even a single second, doubt that Ethan had been completely honest about his threats; they were not idle bluffs – he’d meant business.
He touched his jaw. It hurt like a mother, but he could tell that it wasn’t broken, so he had to thank god for minor miracles. He sat on the ground for some time. People passed by took one look at him and turned away – and then they took a second look. He’d known that his face probably didn’t look that good, but it was their second look that told him exactly how fucked up it was. If it wasn’t seriously wrecked, there wouldn’t be that guilty drive to look back a second time. Like Lot’s wife, they simply couldn’t help themselves.
***
Ethan found his car behind the building he’d slept in. It was just about time to face the music, but the thought of finally facing Kylie made his head spin and his hands shake. He would tell her the truth, but he had no idea how she would respond.
When Ethan arrived home, he let himself in and went directly to the bedroom. He pushed the door open and found Kylie. She was sitting on the bed, but she didn’t even turn at the sound of his voice. He could see the side of her face, though, and he could see that she’d been crying.
Seeing her this way, his heart sank, and he cursed himself for hurting her. He had been incredibly thoughtless. Finally, she turned and said, “I no longer know the difference between what is real and what is not real. Ever since my husband left three days ago, I’ve hardly slept. Is that you, Ethan? If so, tell me where you’ve been and why you’ve abandoned me…”
Chapter 268: I Was So Worried About You
Ethan rushed to Kylie’s side. He wiped her tears away and said, “I am so sorry!”
Kylie turned suddenly. She pushed his hands away and beat on his chest. “You bastard. I hate you so much! Look what you’ve done to me. I am a mess. I was so worried about you!”
Ethan just stood there. He let her scream at him, and he let her pound on his chest. He accepted that he owed her penance and that it had only just begun. He deserved this and much more. After hitting his chest for a while, she opened her fists and began slapping him across the face. It wasn’t until she had spent all of her energy that she fell into his arms and began to wail.
Ethan held her like that. He wrapped his arms around her and said, “I am sorry. I should never have put you through that, but I will explain everything, and once I have, you will understand. I hope, at that time, you will forgive me. God, I hope I didn’t fuck up us!
“I swear it won’t happen again,” Ethan concluded as he helped her sit back down on her bed. Kylie could barely see through the torrent of tears that clouded her eyes. All she could do was watch Ethan’s form as he stood up, turned, walked to the bedside table, took out a small box, and passed it to her.
Kylie took a quick peek at it and frowned. She handed it back to him, and then she looked away. She watched, though, as he opened it and took something out. Already she knew what it was and, when he tried to slide the ring onto her ring finger, she pulled away and, for the first time in days, she yelled at him. “I don’t want to be married, you!” she shrieked. “What’s wrong with you? Are you retarded? After everything that has happened over the last few days, you’re lucky that I haven’t scratched your eyeballs out of your head!”
Suddenly, Ethan’s voice became very serious. “If you don’t wear this ring,” he said, “I will kill you with my own two hands. If you think I’m not capable of such violence, go ask Ken. I nearly snuffed out his life no more than an hour ago.”
Kylie’s heart began to beat very fast. She didn’t know what had happened between him and Ken, but she could tell that he was serious. Knowing that she didn’t know how to respond or what to say. Without warning, she grabbed his hand and bit it very hard!
Ethan looked down at her and, as he gripped her hair, he smiled. Then, as he pulled harder, the smile gradually grew bigger. While he had her in complete submission, she was screaming, and he used his free hand to slip the ring onto his ringer finger. “It stays on,” he hissed as he let her go.
“Fine,” she cried as she sat up, “but at least tell me where you’ve been and what you’ve been doing.”
Ethan looked at her and said, “I’ve been with Dora.”
“Then why didn’t you respond when we knocked on the door?” Kylie demanded.
Ethan looked up and thought about it. He recognized that he was about to lie, but he didn’t understand his motivation. For an instant, his eyes went dark, but then the answer came to him, and he explained, “We weren’t at Sunshine Garden. We were at one of her other properties.”
Kylie nodded, and she asked him how the movie was.
Ethan looked at her curiously and said, “Why would you think we were at the movies? You know that I don’t like going to the cinema…”
Kylie shrugged.
Ethan got up. He rubbed her hair and said, “I am going to go and take a bath. It’s still early. If you are still tired, why don’t you go back to sleep? I can wake you up in a few hours if you’d like.”
Without waiting for an answer, Ethan walked into the bathroom, closed the door behind him, and turned the water on in the bathtub. He looked at himself in the mirror, shaved quickly, undressed, and climbed into the bathtub. He cupped the warm water in his hands and splashed it onto his face, and then he leaned back so that he could relax.
As he closed his eyes, though, Dora’s images played on the back of his eyelids in sporadic flashes of color. Dora was putting her hands on his knees. Dora was touching his legs. Dora’s tearful face. These images alone were enough to bring him to tears.
He thought about Dora, and he thought about his time in Thailand-he had been forced to dress in feather-made clothes, wear heavy makeup, and stand on the stage to wriggle his body. The women sitting in the audience had pointed at him as if he were some kind of joke, and they’d laughed. Some of them had thrown a hundred dollars on the stage. Some of them would get on stage with him and touch his body. They liked the feel of his prepubescent cock in their hand. At the time, that was his life. He hadn’t even known, at the time, that he was being abused. All that he knew was that he didn’t like what they were doing to him.
Suddenly, Ethan felt like he was going to vomit. He got up quickly, leaned over the toilet, and threw up.
***
Kylie was just about asleep when she heard Ethan vomiting. She got up quickly and ran into the next room. “Ethan!” she cried anxiously. “What’s wrong?”
Ethan sighed as he flushed the toilet and sat back in the bathtub. “I’m okay,” he said.
Seeing Ethan naked, she noticed that his knee was scraped. “What happened to your knee?” She wondered. “Did you fall down?”
Kylie squatted to check his leg carefully, but Ethan pulled away from her touch. “Don’t worry about it,” he said. “Why don’t you go and finish your nap?”
“Alright,” Kylie replied sadly, “but if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to call me.”
After Ethan finished his bath, he slipped into a pair of underwear and a tank top and climbed into bed with Kylie. He lay on his back and invited her to lay on his chest. As long as they didn’t say anything to each other, he knew that they could get along, and much as he might have wanted to, he knew better than to try and initiate any kind of sexual intercourse.
For the most part, Ethan was disgusted by women, and Kylie was an exception. Why that was, he couldn’t fathom. That she loved him, was also a mystery to him. It was true, though, and she’d proven it when she’d come to his rescue. He loved her too, but he didn’t know how to treat women or behave towards them. He knew that he should have behaved differently earlier, but he didn’t know how he should have behaved.
Chapter 269: I Want You Exactly As You Are
Kylie awoke alone, shortly after ten o’clock. Even though she was alone, she wasn’t worried. After the last few days, a part of her didn’t even care if Ethan was still home or not. As per her regular routine, she took a shower, brushed her teeth, got dressed, and brushed her hair – She never gave Ethan a second thought.
On her way to the kitchen, though, she poked her head into the gym and found Ethan on the treadmill. He looked up at the sound of the door and smiled when he saw her. Kylie saw that he was sweating profusely, and she brought him a towel. As he took it, he turned off the machine and stepped down. He looked at her and said, “I hope that you haven’t forgotten my father’s birthday. It starts at one, but I want to be there by noon in case anything still needs to be done.”
Kylie nodded, and she said, “Don’t worry. I took the day off.”
Kylie smiled and said, “We still have some free time. Why don’t we make it count?”
With that said, Kylie slipped her finger under the band of his sweatpants, and as soon as she found his member, it went hard in her hand. “What’s this,” she wondered with a huge grin on her face.
Ethan gasped. “I’m not complaining,” he said, “but I certainly wasn’t expecting this!”
Kylie touched his sweaty chest and said, “You are so sexy right now. You seduce me. Right now, I cannot resist you!”
Kylie leaned in and kissed Ethan hard on the mouth. Before she could go any further, though, he took a step back and said, “I am sweaty and gross. Are you sure that you want to do this??
In response to this, Kylie took a step forward and licked his neck. She smiled and said, “I want you exactly as you are.”
***
During lunch later, Ethan was gentle and elegant, and considerate – he was so much the gentleman, in fact, that Kylie could barely believe it. That being said, when he looked at Kylie, she had a hard time reading his expression, and she got the impression that he didn’t want to be there, and the minutes seemed to stretch on into eternity.
The birthday party of Old Mr. Parker was held in the banquet hall of the Empire Hotel. The place boasted a splendid banquet spread, and it had been endorsed by many important figures in business and politics.
Kylie held Ethan’s arm, and as they walked into the hall, neither of them could believe how many people had shown up. As they checked in, many of the people in attention paid them an abnormal amount of interest. Most had seen him in social settings such as this one, but none had seen him with a plus one at his side.
Gradually, people began to recognize Kylie and point her out on their mobile devices to show those who didn’t recognize her. There was a lot of gossips, not just about her present situation, but about her past “indiscretions,”
“Isn’t that Kylie Finch?” one person wondered. “I heard she was a slut. Didn’t she used to fuck Aiden Parker?”
“Yeah,” someone replied. “Aiden Parker and his uncle!”
“She is nothing but a gold digger,” someone else said. “I am not surprised that she’s got her hooks into Lord Ethan. I bet she gives a good head…”
Finally, a more conservative person stepped forward and said, “Maybe this isn’t the best place to talk about such things. For all we know, there is nothing going on between them, and she is only there to keep him company.”
Hearing that, many of the gossipers hung their heads in shame and dispersed.
***
Once Dinah and Kylie were alone, Dinah smile at Kylie and said, “I heard that Ethan would be on a business trip tonight. Would you like me to stay with you while he is away?”
“Don’t worry about it,” Kylie replied. “Lucy will be home and, besides, no one would dare to make trouble at the Garbo Palace. Go and see your beau. I will be okay.”
Dinah smiled, and she said, “That is very kind of you to help me.”
Once the car made its stop at Garbo Palace, Dinah turned the car around and set off to find Stephen.
As soon as Kylie entered the house, her phone buzzed. She had stuffed her phone between her bra, and she pulled it out to see who it was that was calling. She looked at the Caller ID and, when she saw that it was Ken, she sighed and accepted the call. Ken seemed excited about something and, without even saying, “Hello,” Ken asked her if she was free.
Kylie frowned, and she said, “I have a hard time believing that you’ve already discerned the cause of my mother’s death – it is too soon, and you have never been particularly efficient!”
“Not yet,” Ken admitted. “I have something else to tell you, though; to show you, actually. I will give you ten minutes to change your clothes. I need to take you to see Lord Ethan.”
Kylie thought about it and said, “If I want to see Ethan, I can go to him. I don’t need you to show me the way. I am not a child. Furthermore, he also knows where I am – and he knows my number – so if he wants to see me, he knows where I am!”
“Never mind that!” Ken insisted. “You know that Lord Ethan said that he was going on a business trip. Is it true, though? You need to see what is really going on. If you’re late, you will miss out, and then you will never believe me! Now hurry up. I can’t say anymore. You need to see this for yourself!”
Kylie sat by the bed with her lips pressed tightly together as she thought for a while. Ethan was on an impromptu business trip, which Ken White obviously knew – so what was he talking about?
Kylie had never trusted Ken so, after getting off the phone, she called Ethan. Curiously though, he did not pick up. She hoped to get this matter with Ken cleared up quickly, so she was more than a bit flustered when she couldn’t get through to Ethan.
It wasn’t like him to have his phone off either, which set off alarm bells in her head.
After a few minutes, Ken called again. “Are you almost ready” he wondered.
“Almost,” she replied.
When Lucy saw that Kylie was ready to go out, she walked towards her and said, “Ma’am, Lord Ethan is not home, and neither is Miss Larson. Why are you going out so late? You know that Lord Ethan would not approve of this.”
Kylie smiled and said, “Dinah is waiting for me outside. We’ll be back soon.”
“Alright,” Lucy sighed. “Be safe.”
Kylie’s phone suddenly rang once, which meant that Ken was at the gate of the community. His Santana could not be allowed to be driven inside; otherwise, Lucy would recognize it and know that something was up, so she ran out the door in his direction as fast as she could. When she got to the car, she opened the door, climbed in, and demanded to know what was going on.
Ken smiled at her, and he said, “I need to show you a side of Ethan you’ve likely never seen. If you can, just loan me a little trust. I have your best intentions at heart.”
Kylie did not trust Ken, but she decided to give him at least enough rope to hang himself from. “Alright,” she sighed, “Let’s do this if we’re going to do this.”
Chapter 270: Sounds Good
Kylie was more than a little surprised when Ethan pulled up outside of a bar. By this time, though, she had given up on questions, and so she simply allowed him to lead her inside. Once they were seated, Ken ordered a Bottle of Coors Light, and Kylie asked for whiskey on the rocks, smirking at his ‘baby drink.’
The drinks arrived after a few minutes, and they each took a sip. Ken had his eyes on the door, so Kylie looked there as well, but neither said a word to the other. As of yet, he had not told her why they were there, and she wasn’t interested in anything else that he might have to say.
The longer they sat there though, the more anxious Kylie began to feel. Ken had put her in a lose-lose situation. If they caught Ethan doing something dishonest, she would be forced to confront him. On the other hand, if this was another one of Ken’s scams, then she would have to deal with him. That being said, she hoped that it was Ken who was acting the cad.
Stay calm, she told herself.
Gradually, as she sipped at her whiskey in silence, her thoughts strayed, and her imagination took the wheel. She wondered who would win if Ken and Ethan got into a fight. She played out different scenarios as to why Ethan might have lied to her, and why Ken couldn’t just tell her.
Every once in a while, Ken opened his phone and checked it for messages. It seemed that he was waiting for a signal or something. Finally, the silence between them grew to be too much, and she asked him if he knew about Khloe’s current situation?”
“She’s fine,” Ken replied without thinking. “She’s pregnant with Matthew Parker’s baby. Don’t worry about her. She’s taken care of and, once she has the baby, she won’t have the time or energy to be so nosey and bitchy.”
Kylie’s eyes went wide. She hadn’t known that Khloe was pregnant. She said, “Matthew is an old man. How is that even possible?”
Ken rolled his eyes. He shook his head and said, “Matthew drank an aphrodisiac that day. Otherwise, I doubt he could have even popped a chubby!”
Kylie laughed a little, but it was short-lived.
Ken looked at her seriously and asked her if she’d watched the DVD he’d given her. She admitted that she hadn’t. In truth, she had pretty much forgotten all about it. After all, DVDs were pretty much an outdated medium. If you wanted someone to want to watch a video, you sent it to them through Facebook Messenger.
“Does it have anything to do with Khloe’s baby?” she wondered.
“Khloe is saying the father is Matthew,” he replied, “but I am the actual biological father!”
Hearing this, Kylie faced him with a confused look on her face. “If she is carrying your baby,” she wondered, “Why is she saying that it belongs to Matthew?”
“Never mind that,” Ken replied. “I don’t even know why I mentioned it. Let’s head back to the car.”
As soon as they were in the car, Kylie looked him in the eye and asked him who his boss was, but as soon as he heard her question, he looked away and said, “I don’t know what you are talking about. I am my own boss.”
Kylie smiled as she sat back. “I don’t believe it,” she laughed, “but I won’t push you. I might begin to though if I don’t get some answers. You said we were in a rush, yet we had the time to stop at the pub for a drink? What the literal fuck? I am beginning to lose my patience!”
Ken didn’t say anything. He just started the car and began to drive away. Then, after about twenty minutes, they arrived in front of a six-story building. Ken pointed to a room on the fourth floor and said, “Your man is up there.”
Kylie moved to get out of the car but, before she could, he grabbed her arm and asked her a question: “Kylie. If Ethan betrays you, would you consider being with me?”
Kylie shook her arm away and said, “I’ve told you before that I don’t want to be with you. Ever since high school, I have been bi-sexual. If Ethan turns out to be no different from every other man I’ve ever met, my next partner will most likely be a woman. So, unless you have a pearl, you may as well give it up…”
Ken let go of Kylie’s arm as if it had caught leprosy and was highly contagious. He’d had no idea that she was a dyke!
***
Once they arrived on the fourth floor, Ken pointed out the apartment that he had said Ethan was in. Looking at that apartment’s door, Kylie’s heart pounded. It was Schrödinger’s cat all over again. Until she knocked, he either was there, or he wasn’t; it could easily go one way or the other. She looked at Ken.
Ken was leaning against the wall. He had lit a cigarette in his mouth. He had a bitter smile on his face. He waved her on with his hand. Without opening his mouth, his stature and mannerisms spoke loudly; go ahead. Knock. This is why you’re here.
Finally, Kylie brought her knuckles to the door and rapped upon it, and it wasn’t long before she could hear feet walking, getting closer. “Who is it?” a masculine voice wondered. It sounded like Ethan’s voice. She knocked again but said nothing.
Finally, the door opened and, when she looked up, Ethan stood before her. Ken had been right. She turned to face him, and he mouthed four words: “I told you so.”
When Ethan saw who was at the door, his face turned white, and his body froze. Hearing the commotion, Dora emerged from the hallway. She was wearing an apron over a housedress, and her hair was swept back into a ponytail. She looked like a proper hausfrau. She looked over at Ethan and smiled. “Look,” she laughed, “the little mouse comes for you!.”
Ethan scowled, turned back to Dora, and sighed. “You don’t always have to be such a bitch,” he told her. “This is hard enough without your petty sarcasm.”
Dora took a step back and covered her mouth with her hand. No one had ever spoken to her in such a forward and contemptuous manner.
“I have been calling you all night,” Kylie said. “I suppose that now I know why…”
Suddenly Ken stepped forward. He grabbed Kylie’s attention and asked her why she was so calm. “Why aren’t you screaming?” he wondered. “Why aren’t you scratching his eyeballs out of their sockets?”
Seeing Ken up in Kylie’s face, Ethan pushed him away. “I warned you to stay away,” he warned. “Did you honestly think that it was an idle threat?”
“You have lost the right to defend Kylie,” Ken hissed. “You are a cheat and a cad. You can have Dora if she will have you, but as of this moment, Kylie is under my protection.”
“Sounds good,” Ethan laughed as his fist connected hard with Ken’s face.
