Ch. 261..270
Chapter 261
Trina ground her teeth so hard that Bonnie could hear it. The latter said, “Grinding your teeth won’t help. We both know how the family operates. They’ll treat you like a queen if you’re useful, but when you’ve outlived your usefulness, you’re less than dirt to them.
“Use me as an example. Your family thought I was no longer useful to them, and they disowned me. While their blood courses through my veins, you have nothing to fall back on, Trina. I don’t have to tell you what’ll happen once you outlive your usefulness.”
Trina’s emotions ran wild. Although Bonnie was her enemy, she had to admit there was some truth to Bonnie’s words.
Bonnie stood up and crossed her arms, saying, “That’s why you’ll slap yourself just like I asked you to. Come on, let’s hear it.”
Gresham and Vera did not make a sound. Trina could only sigh, knowing they had to agree. Ultimately, she slapped herself.
Bonnie smirked. “That’s too soft. I said I want to hear it. That was hardly a slap.
Trina glared at her former sister and slapped herself again.
Smack!
The sound was crisp.
“Are you happy now?” Trina asked.
Bonnie nodded and said, “That works.”
She then turned to Fernanda and said, “I’ll head inside to treat Harold. The rest of you stay here and watch her. Make sure each slap is as loud as the one she did just now.”
“Okay, leave it to me.” Fernanda rubbed her hands together and approached Trina.
Previously, the latter had cunningly given Bonnie’s exam ID to Fernanda to humiliate Bonnie’s SAT score at Harold’s birthday party. However, Bonnie had a perfect score and won the Best Scholar Award. Then, Trina argued with Fernanda.
That was why Bonnie assigned Fernanda to watch Trina. Bonnie’s former cousin would watch over Trina to ensure she did not stop slapping herself until Bonnie finished treating Harold.
Trina cursed internally, ‘Damn you, Bonnie!‘
Meanwhile, Yolanda glared at Bonnie grimly and said, “Will you please check on Harold now?”
“Sure,” Bonnie responded cheerfully, “I feel much better now. Let’s move.”
Her demeanor caused Yolanda, Gresham, and Vera’s blood pressure to skyrocket. When Bonnie reached Harold’s room, she first checked his pulse.
Yolanda asked with worry, “How is it? Can you help him?”
“His condition has gone on for too long. It would’ve been doable if you had let me treat him years ago. Now, it’ll take much longer to cure him.”
Bonnie’s words enraged Yolanda. “Really? The other doctors gave up treating him. On sound like you can treat him. All you need is time, right? We the other hand, you make to hired various specialists for my husband’s condition. Why are you so confident you can do what the others couldn’t?”
Of course, Yolanda was skeptical of Bonnie’s medical knowledge and purposefully made sarcastic remarks to mock her.
“Don’t worry about that. Your family spent three million dollars on my services. So, I’ll ensure you spend your money well. That’s not a small amount of money, right, Yolanda?”
Chapter 262
Yolanda sneered. She tried to schemingly get back the money she had spent on her former granddaughter, but it failed.
Soon after, Bonnie pulled out her silver needles and treated Harold. She looked nothing like a twenty–year–old girl at that moment. Instead, she looked like a mature and seasoned doctor.
The longer Yolanda and the others watched, the more peculiar their expressions became. Half an hour later, Bonnie kept her needles, and Harold miraculously regained consciousness.
The first person he saw was Bonnie. He asked, “What’s she doing here? Gresham, you and your wife promised never to take this good–for–nothing back. How dare you break your promise?!
“I’ll disown you as my son if you don’t get her out of my house, Gresham! You’ll never be one of us again!” Harold roared.
Immediately after, he noticed everyone’s strange expressions. “What’s the matter with you guys? Cat got your tongue? Did you even hear what I said?!”
Yolanda feared things would get out of control and whispered to him everything she had just learned about Bonnie.
Harold’s eyes widened as he listened to his wife. He then looked at Bonnie in disbelief. After taking some time to process the information, he said, “Fine. Now that you’re finally making a name for yourself, I can consider letting you rejoin the family.
“My only condition is that you give us the money you earned from your patients. Also, you must return the mone spent on bidding for your services.”
Bonnie merely stared at him blankly.
Harold was displeased, asking, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Bonnie stepped away from the family and said, “I’m grateful that I got switched at birth with Trina twenty years ago. This whole family has no honor. I would have turned out as shameless as you of you raised me.”
“You bitch!” Harold roared, “How dare you talk to me that way! I’m your grandfather!”
“Grandfather? You must’ve lost part of your memory. Did you forget that you detached
my bank account from the family? Also, you were the ones who announced on Twitter. that I’m no longer a member of the family.”
Harold argued, “I know you’re upset that we disowned you. However, we did nothing wrong because you kept humiliating us. I’m merciful for letting you rejoin the family. After all, your medical knowledge is impressive.”
Bonnie sneered, saying, “Shameless doesn’t even begin to describe how bold you all are.”
“Repeat that if you dare!” Harold barked as he trembled with anger.
“I said nothing wrong. All of Pyralis knows I’m no longer a family member because of the tweet. Do you want to tarnish your reputation by releasing another statement, saying you’ve seen the error of your ways, and welcome me back into the family? Can you put aside your pride to do that?”
Harold pondered her words, ‘She’s right. It’ll look like we were wrong if we take her back.
He said, “How about you post a tweet, saying you’ve reflected on your mistakes and changed for the better. Then, you’ll also say you won’t bring shame to the family again. Lastly, you’ll beg for forgiveness, too.”
‘If she does that, my family’s reputation will stay intact.‘
Chapter 263
Bonnie was astonished when she heard Harold’s words. Although she knew how shameless the Shepards were, she could not help but feel disgusted over what Harold said.
“Hahaha!” She burst into hearty laughter, saying, “I have no words for you people. You’d have better luck sprouting wings and flying than making me rejoin your family. I
wouldn’t even consider it if you begged.
“That’s enough chit–chat. I’ll continue treating your condition since you paid me so much. That’ll be all today. Farewell.” Bonnie motioned to leave.
“Stop right there! Did I say you could leave?!” Harold roared.
However, she did not slow down and ignored him. It pissed Harold off. “Hold it, Bonnie! Did you hear me?! I said stop!”
Still, Bonnie continued to leave.
“Fine! I’ve lived far longer than you and know how the world works. I’ll show you who’s tougher. Men! Stop her!” Harold had decided to contain Bonnie in the house.
‘I’ll punish that punk for ignoring and rebelling against me. Besides, Bonnie’s extraordinary medical skills will greatly bolster my family’s wealth. We can even use her to our advantage to establish connections with much wealthier and more influential families in Pyralis. I must ensure Bonnie doesn’t leave.‘
Soon after, several bodyguards surrounded Bonnie. She gazed at them and said dryly, These jokers can’t stop me if that’s what you’re counting on.”
“How arrogant! Do you think your basic skills will do you any good? They’re the family’s elite bodyguards.”
“Good for you.” Bonnie casually responded and continued to leave.
The bodyguards exchanged glances before springing into action. However, Bonnie dodged their assault and countered with several punches, causing them to stagger and
hit the wall.
The bodyguards were shocked. Then, some charged at her while the rest came from the rear. Even so, Bonnie wiped them out with a flurry of punches.
Harold’s expression turned grim as he gawked at his elite bodyguards on the floor. No words could describe how shocked he was, not to mention Gresham, Vera, and everyone
else. They froze, and their jaws dropped.
At that moment, they finally understood why Kay kept pestering Bonnie to teach her kickboxing. The Shepards began to regret disowning Bonnie, especially with her medical knowledge and status as Pyralis’s best scholar.
Meanwhile, Trina stopped slapping herself and ran over when she heard her grandfather had regained consciousness. Then, she felt threatened when she saw the bodyguards on
the floor.
She remarked, “I don’t get it, Bonnie. You’re tough and skillful, yet you stooped so low to get a sugar daddy.”
Trina meant to mislead her family. It did not matter how tough Bonnie was. Trina wanted the family to know that Bonnie was still a slut who would readily sell her body and integrity for a quick buck.
Surprisingly, it worked. Although the Shepards felt regretful earlier, that feeling began to fade. Instead, they disdained Bonnie again. That was when Bonnie strode toward Trina.
Chapter 264
Trina’s eyes widened in terror. “Wh–what are you doing?!”
Bonnie glared at her menacingly and said, “I told you last time. If you’re going to accuse
me of having a sugar daddy, you better have evidence to back it up. Otherwise, you’ll regret it.”
Trina felt an impending danger. She gulped in fear before screaming and fleeing. However, Bonnie grabbed her collar and yanked her back, causing her to fly and slam into a cupboard.
“Trina!” Vera darted after her daughter worriedly. “Are you okay, sweetie?”
Trina cried, “I–I’m okay, Mom. Don’t blame Bonnie for this. I was wrong to expose wrongdoings in front of everyone.”
her
Vera was outraged. She turned and screamed at Bonnie, “Did you hear that?! You hurt Trina, yet she still defends you! So what if you’re the miracle doctor? Your talents don’t matter much if you’re wicked and nasty. Even if the family wants you back, I’ll never reconcile with you.”
“Exactly!” Gresham glared at Bonnie. “She spoke my mind. I’ll never reconcile with you till the end of time!”
Initially, Harold and Yolanda wanted to use Bonnie’s skills for the family’s benefit. However, what happened just now suggested it was no longer possible.
Gresham and Vera’s claims made the older couple reconsider retaining someone as nasty as Bonnie. After all, she could be of more trouble than her worth.
Harold said coldly, “I pitied you and allowed you to rejoin the family because the Shepard blood courses through your veins. Now, you’ve created a disaster. I’ll kick you out, you troublemaker. Good riddance.”
Bonnie glared at him and responded, “I wanted to leave, but you got in my way. Why do you insist on complicating things for yourself?”
‘How annoying!‘
The Shepards glared daggers at her as she left. When Bonnie exited the house, she saw Jim waiting for her. She asked, “Why are you here?”
“Why else? Mr. Ivor was worried about you.
“Are you mocking me?”
“I wouldn’t dare.” Jim smiled and glanced at the Shepards‘ house grimly. “I heard fighting going on inside.”
Bonnie then told him everything that had just happened inside. “That’s about it. Those idiots considered their bodyguards elites. As far as I’m concerned, they weren’t even a fun challenge.”
“I’m aware of that. That’s one of the reasons I didn’t barge in to help.”
Bonnie stared into Jim’s eyes and asked, “Am I right to say you wanted to barge in there earlier?”
Jim chuckled, saying, “Your intelligence is extraordinary, Bonita. Nothing escapes you. Yes, I wanted to help but stopped because this is the Shepards‘ house.“.
Bonnie was grateful that he put himself in her shoes and considered what she needed instead of what he needed to do. Although he was a man’s man, he was exceptionally thoughtful and cautious regarding Bonnie.
She said, “You don’t have to respect those fools anymore. You can barge in and teach them a lesson for all I care. I have nothing to do with them, after all.”
Jim nodded. “Roger that.”
Floyd entered the Knight Group’s CEO’s office with a stack of documents and approached Ivor. However, he realized his boss was still looking at the same document from hours ago. “You’ve been staring at that for over an hour, Mr. Ivor. Is something wrong?” “I was distracted with my thoughts.” Ivor frowned.
Chapter 265
‘I know what Mr. Ivor is thinking, but I don’t want to ask him about it. I don’t want to hear about his lovey–dovey story with Bonnie.‘
Suddenly, Ivor looked at Floyd, hinting for him to ask about his thoughts. The latter wished to wipe the sweat off his forehead, asking, “Um, what’s on your mind, Mr. Ivor?”
Ivor felt satisfied. He said, “I was just thinking about Bonnie. I wonder how everything’s going for her at the Shepards‘. Do you think they’ll pick on her again?”
Floyd pouted, thinking, ‘I knew it.”
“If I know Ms. Bonnie well enough, no one can pick on her. Also, didn’t you send Jim–I mean, Tim, to watch over her? Everything will be okay with him around, Mr. Ivor.”
“Tim Reid, huh?” Ivor mumbled.
Floyd’s heart raced as he stammered, “I–Is there something wrong with Tim?”
Ivor squinted and said, “There’s more to him than meets the eye.”
Floyd tensed as he thought, “That’s obvious. His real identity is Jim freaking Ryan!‘
Mairi, Avril’s mother, was celebrating her birthday today. So, Bonnie visited early in the morning.
Avril pulled Bonnie to her mother, saying, “Hurry, my mom can’t wait to meet you!”
“Bonnie, you’re finally here! I’ve been waiting to meet you!” Mairi held Bonnie’s hands warmly and looked at her affectionately. “I’m weak and ill, so I can rarely–mingle in high society circles. I’ve only ever heard about you until today.”
Bonnie giggled and said, “I don’t have a good reputation out there, unfortunately.”
“That’s nonsense.” Mairi frowned. “I don’t believe what people say about you. I find. most rumors unfounded. I only care about what my family thinks about you. Avril loves. You and Daken a
of your character.
“As far as I’m concerned, you’re all right. The people who twist the truth and spread. false rumors are nasty.”
Although it was Bonnie and Mairi’s first meeting, the former felt touched by what Mairi
said. Mairi took Bonnie’s hands and gestured for her to sit. “Come, you can sit next to me.”
Avril groaned and playfully complained, “Mom, how can you ignore your daughter just because Bonnie’s here?”
“Oh, don’t be jealous, sweetie.” Mairi looked at Bonnie and said, “Speaking of daughters, did Avril tell you about me wanting to become your godmother?”
Bonnie nodded and said, “Yeah, she mentioned it once.”
“Well, what do you think?” Mairi’s eyes widened as she looked at Bonnie longingly.
The latter could tell Mairi genuinely liked her. Bonnie pondered on it and considered how Avril had always treated her. Then, she thought about what Mairi said earlier. Bonnie nodded and said, “I’d be happy to be your goddaughter, Mairi.”
“That’s wonderful!” Mairi was so thrilled that she fist–pumped. She then looked at her husband and daughter, saying, “Did you hear that? Bonnie’s willing to be my
goddaughter! Now, I have two daughters!”
Daken palmed his forehead helplessly as he looked at his ecstatic wife. “We have other guests, honey. You might want to watch yourself.”
Chapter 266
“I gained a new daughter. What do I care? Can’t I let the world know that I’m happy? Do you fancy yourself a school principal? Is that why you’re getting on my case? I didn’t say anything when you smoke and drink. Also, there was the time when
“Alright, okay! I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything. Will you please let it go?” Daken couldn’t take it when Mairi got going. He knew he’d never hear the end of it.
Avril hid her chuckle behind her hands and whispered to Bonnie, “Did you see it? There they go again. I see this several times a day.”
“They love each other a lot.” Bonnie loved how loving and harmonious the Smiths were. It reminded her of her family in the countryside. Her parents and Benedict were the same
way, too.
The Shepards weren’t even worth mentioning.
Daken couldn’t take it anymore. Realizing that asking for forgiveness didn’t pan out as he thought it would, he changed the topic and said, “Geez, honey. Did you prepare any gift for your goddaughter?”
“Oh, dear. You’re right.” Mairi removed her necklace and turned to Bonnie. “My mom gave it to me when I turned eighteen. It’s not anything luxurious, but it means a lot to me. I hope you’ll like it.”
“A–Are you sure?”
“Are you rejecting it because it’s too cheap? Is it because it’s less valuable than the ice- species jade bangle you gave Avril?”
Bonnie could tell Mairi purposefully put it this way. “That’s not it, Mom. It’s because the pendant is made of glass–species jade, Mom. I wouldn’t say it’s cheap.”
Mairi was a little surprised. “Sheesh. Look tell this is glass–species
6. How could you jade?”
“I developed a fondness for various jades and antiques in the past. So, I’ve been studying them quite a lot.”
What she said surprised Mairi again. “Did you dabble in antiques as well?”
“Nothing too serious, though,” Bonnie said humbly.
“Geez. You’re talented in so many areas,
the most exotic antique piece in the world. “There’s an Antique Jade Appreciation Conference in Jocrovania next month. How about you come with me? Do you have the time?”
At the next moment, Lorna Smith chimed in. She was the daughter of Murray Smith, who was Daken’s eldest brother. “Various prestigious figures from all over the globe will show up at the Antique Jade Appreciation Conference in Jocrovania, Aunt Mairi.
Bonnie’s just twenty years old. What’s the point in bringing her along? Do you think she’s going to be any help in appraising the antique?”
Mairi was displeased about the rude interruption, but she was the older woman here. She couldn’t be seen having a beef with the youngsters.
“Meet Bonnie, Lorna. I’ve just accepted her as my goddaughter. I know you have opinions about her, but I can guarantee she’s not even close to how the rumors described her.”
“I’m sure she got you fooled, Aunt Mairi. You guys are the only ones who think the world of her, while the Shepards have seen her for what she truly is. That’s why they kicked her out of the family.”
“That’s enough, Lorna!” Mairi roared, “I didn’t start anything with you earlier because I think of you as my niece. However, you kept coming at my goddaughter and attacked her with words. You have no respect for me.
“Now, it’s my turn to ask you something. Were those your words? Or did your parent feed them to you to repeat them to me?”
Lorna was thoroughly shocked by Mairi’s outburst. Turning around, she looked at her parents and asked for their help wordlessly.
Her mother, Kirsty Smith, came over and said with a big smile, “Geez. Listen to yourself, Mairi. You’re scaring the youngsters. Lorna’s just a child. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”
Avril leaned into Bonnie’s ears and whispered, “She’s right. Lorna’s such a baby.”
Bonnie hid her chuckle behind her hands.
Mairi stood before Bonnie and said, “Just a child? Fine. If you say she’s a child, then so be it. I can’t believe she made such nasty remarks when she was just a child. The fault doesn’t lie with her. That makes it the parents‘ fault because she’s just a child!”

Chapter 267
Mairi’s back wasn’t exactly broad. She was quite slender. However, she stood before Bonnie and shielded her as Daken did a while ago.
“Avril and her family are kind souls.‘ Bonnie thought to herself.
That said, Mairi was insinuating Lorna’s parents didn’t raise her well. Murray and Kirsty’s face turned red from fury. “Don’t you think you’re a little harsh, Mairi?”
“Harsh? Look who’s talking. Don’t you think Lorna spoke rather harshly earlier? She had always been arrogant and impolite. She also doesn’t show any respect to those older than her under normal circumstances. At first, I thought she was young. So, I let it slide and didn’t say anything.
“Do I need to remind you what the occasion is today? It’s my fiftieth birthday, yet she continued to run her mouth off before me! You don’t see my daughter doing the same thing before you guys!”
Murray and Kirsty didn’t have a good comeback for that. Mairi was right. It was her birthday. There was nothing they could say to excuse his daughter’s behavior.
“Hehehe…” Kirsty forced a smile on her face and said, “Yeah. You’re right. Lorna was in the wrong this time.”
Lorna’s eyes widened. “Mom…”
“That’s enough, Lorna. Knock it off. You’re an adult now. That means you have to mind. the way you carry yourself. Remember, we’re here to celebrate your Aunt Mairi’s birthday. Speaking of, didn’t you prepare a gift for her? Hurry up and give it to her.”
Still pissed off, Lorna produced a gift and handed it to Mairi. “I saved for a long time to buy this gift for you, Aunt Mairi. I’m aware that you’re not feeling well. So, I bought this for you. It’ll help.”
“Fine. Thank you.” Mairi took it and gave it to Avril.
Avril opened the box and checked on it. She mumbled, “What a tiny ginseng. Moreover, it doesn’t look like it was grown in the wild. That means it’s not worth much. How big of a fool does she think we are? My mom could drop dead the moment she ingests it.
Bonnie took a look at it and formed her judgment on the ginseng.
“This ginseng is cultivated artificially for less than three years. It won’t take Mom’s life
away, but it won’t help her, given her current condition.”
Avril regarded her puzzlingly and asked, “How do you know so well about Mom’s current condition?”
“I took the opportunity to check her pulse when she held my hands earlier,” Bonnie explained.
Avril’s eyes widened in surprise. “Do you have medical knowledge as well?”
“Yeah. I know enough to get by. I want to check her pulse properly when the party’s over.” Bonnie had long heard that Mairi was very weak. So, she brought her trusty medkit with her when she came.
“Are you good at this?” Avril had massive respect for her right now.
Bonnie remained quiet for a couple of seconds before she leaned into Avril’s ears and said, “Are you going to believe me if I tell you I’m the miracle doctor who treated the mother of the SR League’s owner?”
Avril nodded solemnly. “I sure do. That reminds me, I have a secret for you too.”
“What is it?”
“I’m Ms. Bonita, the renowned researcher in Pyralis.”
Bonnie remained quiet and didn’t say anything.
Avril looked at Bonnie’s stern expression and burst out laughing. “Hahaha!”
“What do you think? My joke’s better than yours. Right?” Raising her hand, Bonnie held her forehead.
‘What a pain in the butt. Perhaps I should stop revealing my secret identities. No one’ll believe me, anyway.‘
At the next moment, Lorna turned to Bonnie and said, “You’re Aunt Mairi’s goddaughter now, Bonnie. Did you come empty–handed to her fiftieth birthday party?”
Avril and Mairi stepped forward simultaneously.
Chapter 268
“Why do you keep picking bones with Bonnie, Lorna? Did she do anything to deserve your aggression?”
“I appreciate that you bought a gift for me, Lorna. I love it. However, this has nothing to do with the fact that you attacked Bonnie verbally repeatedly. She’s part of my family. So, knock it off. Otherwise, I won’t hold back anymore.”
Lorna was pissed off on the inside, but she was doing what she could to keep a smile on her face. She directed her gaze past Avril and Mairi and fixed it on Bonnie.
“I’m not trying to make things difficult for you, Bonnie. It’s just a question. Did you prepare a gift for Aunt Mairi or not? If you overlooked it, I have something I can lend you.” The sarcasm in her tone couldn’t be clearer.
With that said, Bonnie had never once laid eyes on Lorna. Instead, she looked at Mairi and said, “I’ve got something prepared for you, Mom.”
Fixing her gaze on Bonnie, Lorna was determined to see this through. ‘What on earth did Bonnie prepare for Aunt Mairi? I’m so going to make fun of her if it’s something cheap. and worthless.”
“Thank you, Bonnie. I’m really glad I could call myself your mom.” Mairi pulled Bonnie into her arms and hugged her tightly.
we’re all very “Are you going to open it and check out the gift, Aunt Mairi? Come on, curious about the gift Bonnie prepared for you.” Lorna couldn’t wait until Bonnie humiliated herself.
Mairi was irritated now. Just as she was going to defend her goddaughter, Bonnie stepped forward and said, “I handpicked this gift for you, Mom. Why don’t you check it and see if you like it?”
“Um…” Mairi frowned.
“It’ll be fine, Mom. I’m sure you’ll love it. After all, the value of the gift doesn’t matter. It’s the thought that counts.” She smiled and looked at Mairi.
“You’re right. It’s the thought that counts. It doesn’t matter what the gift is, I know I’ll like it. Alright. It’s time to see what you’ve handpicked for me, Bonnie.”
With that, Mairi opened the gift box and was astounded to see the large ginseng. She was
so shocked that it almost slipped from her hands and fell.
The rest of the guests noticed her reaction and leaned in close with a puzzled look on their faces. At the next second, though, they were petrified and stood as still as statues.
It was especially true for Avril. After all, she recognized this particular ginseng. She knew where It came from. “Good Heavens, Bonnie! Is this the same ginseng we saw at the auction a few days ago?”
What she said shocked everyone to their cores once more.
“Jeezums! I heard that they sold the ginseng at a billion dollars eventually! That’s an Incredibly huge amount of money! Is she really going to give it away?”
“Do you think price is the only thing special about it? This ginseng has been around for a hundred years! Everyone coveted it, but it wasn’t up for grabs previously. It would be nearly impossible to get your hands on it if it wasn’t for Pyralis’s annual grand auction.” “That’s right! You could even save your life when the situation calls for it!”
Listening to everyone’s muttering, Lorna felt like someone had slapped her.
‘Bonnie must’ve done it deliberately. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have also given ginseng to Aunt Mairi as a gift!‘
By now, her puny ginseng had been put aside. It became worthless as soon as Bonnie produced her gift.
“Well… It’s such an extravagant gift, Bonnie. I can’t possibly take it.” The last thing Mairi expected from Bonnie was a ginseng worth a billion dollars.
Realizing that Mairi was about to return it to her, Bonnie reached out and stopped her godmother. “I handpicked it for you, Mom. Like I said a minute ago, the value of the gift doesn’t matter. It’s the thought that counts. If you don’t accept it, I’ll take it that you don’t like it.”
Mairi couldn’t exactly decide. Turning sideways, she looked at Daken and said, “Honey…”
“Take it. It’s Bonnie’s first time giving you a gift. You’ll break her heart if you turn it down.” Daken had a point. She had to accept it.
Later, Bonnie took Mairi aside and sat on the couch after the party was over and all the guests had left.
Chapter 269
“I’m going to check your pulse, Mom.”
That surprised Mairi. “Do you have medical skills as well, Bonnie?”
Nodding, she said, “Let me give it a shot.”
Mairi didn’t stop her. She extended her hand and let Bonnie do her thing. That was when
Daken walked over to his daughter and whispered, “Are
her way around medicines?”
“I didn’t know about it until tonight’s party started.”
You aware that Bonnie knows
Avril stared at Bonnie curiously. “What exactly do you make of Bonnie, Dad? Why do I get the feeling that she knows everything?”
Daken was also staring at Bonnie. However, he didn’t say anything about the matter.
Not long after, Bonnie finished checking Mairi’s pulse. She released her godmother’s hand and asked. “Am I right if I say you were haunted by some serious condition when you were very young? Is that the reason behind your compromised immune system?”
Mairi’s eyes widened. “How did you know about that?” The fact was, she hadn’t even mentioned this to Avril. Bonnie shouldn’t have known about it.
“I just checked your pulse, silly,” Bonnie responded.
Mairi was shocked that Bonnie knew her condition by simply checking her pulse.
“I went to the countryside when I was merely three years old. I’m not sure what toxic insect it was, but it bit me, and I got a high fever for two straight weeks. I was admitted to the county hospital before they transferred me to one of the hospitals in the city, but it didn’t do me any good.
“My family even hired a witch doctor and did the whole shebang. Nothing took. Then, it dragged on,
and my body recovered slowly on its own. Ever since that incident, I became frail. I couldn’t even touch cold waters when it was summer.
“It bugged me a lot too. I can’t even drink cold beverages because of it.” Mairi sighed.
‘Everyone drank their fair share of cold beverages when they were young. Having a cold beverage during summer is liberating when I sweat profusely. It must’ve been awesome.‘
Bonnic patted Mairi’s hands and said, “Don’t let this get you down, Mom. It isn’t too late
Pupter 269
to treat it.‘
“You’re such a sweet child, Bonnie. I know you’re just saying what I want to hear. I know about my health better than anyone else. I’ve hired many famous doctors and specialists. over the past few years, but it didn’t do me good.
“Daken wanted to purchase the bid for the miracle doctor’s service at the auction a few days ago. However, his company was trying to gather funding because they secured a famous actor to be the spokesperson for their latest product. That meant their funding was pretty tight, too. On top of that, the Shepards…”
Mairi trailed off into silence. She hesitated a little before continuing. “The Shepards got down on their knees and begged everyone. Harold was in a critical condition. On the other hand, I’m just feeling weak. It’s nothing as urgent as his situation. With all those factors in mind, we decided to give up on it.”
Turning her head sideways, Bonnie looked at Avril. “Please get me my medkit, Avril. It’s the one I brought here with me.”
Avril blinked twice and asked, “My mom’s condition is quite serious, Bonnie. Are you sure you want to do this?”
“You’re right. It is quite serious, but I did say I can treat her.” Bonnie said confidently.
All three of them gawked at her.
Bonnie knew why they were looking at her in this manner. To make them feel better, she explained. “Have faith in my skills. The mother of the SR League’s owner had it worse than Mom, but I treated her nonetheless.
“Also, I had a patient who sat in a wheelchair for twenty–odd years. He managed to stand up after I healed him. Let’s not forget about Harold. He was as good as dead by the time I saw him, but I saved him, too.”
Avril and her parents were at a loss for words. All they could do was gawk at Bonnie. Gulping, she asked, “A–Are you making a joke again, Bonnie?”

Chapter 270
Bonnie shrugged and said, “You can send your men to ask the Shepards if you don’t believe me. See if I saved Harold back from the dead. With that said, they might not tell the truth. I had a huge fight with them when I went there. However, you can still learn the truth by bribing the housekeepers.”
She was deadly serious. There were no signs that she was lying at all.
“Geez Lousie, Bonnie!” Avril stared at her incredulously. “Um, I don’t even know where to begin. How’s this even possible? You’ve got a close relationship with Hamish. Xavier tries his level best to get on your good side. Let’s not forget that Ivor is trying to win your
heart.
“On top of that, you’re the famous miracle doctor. How are you only twenty? I’m also in my twenties, but it feels like I’ve wasted my entire life compared to what you’ve achieved with yours.”
The way Avril was staring at Bonnie right now, everyone would think she was looking at a glorious deity instead of a fellow human being.
“You’re exaggerating, Avril. Alright. That’s quite enough with this topic. What’s
important is that I look at Mom’s situation right now. Hurry up and get me my medkit.”
“Sure thing, O‘ great miracle doctor. Leave it to me!”
Bonnie had nothing to say about that title.
Not long after, Avril returned with the medkit. Pulling out the silver needle, Bonnie looked at Mairi and said, “You have a severe case of a bacterial infection, Mom. It’s a shame that the dog days of summer have come and gone.
“Otherwise, we could’ve eradicated the bacterial infections when they typically manifest during that period.
“On the contrary, the chills would hide themselves under cold weather. That would, in turn, make the treatment process much more difficult. We might be in luck, though. The dog days of summer might’ve been gone, but it’s still scorching.
“The treatment will take longer than it is if we did it during the dog days of summer. You have to be more patient and give it some time.”
“How long will it take?” Avril asked.
Mairi shook her head and smiled. “I’ve got the bacterial infections for years now. It’s not going to be that straightforward to remove it from my body. I’d be grateful if Bonnie could alleviate its symptoms soon.”
Bonnie might’ve been the miracle doctor, but she didn’t think anybody could completely eradicate her condition.
“I’ll get rid of it in three months,” Bonnie responded.
She could’ve eradicated the bacterial infections in Mairi’s body in a couple of months if they had done this during the dog days of summer.
“Th–three months?!” Mairi was so shocked that she stammered. Moreover, Bonnie said she’d eliminate Mairi’s bacterial infections instead of alleviating the symptoms.
“That’s quite enough chit–chat. Let us begin.”
Holding the silver needle, she punctured Mairi’s skin with it and inserted it deep into her vital points. She did it so proficiently and confidently that she looked like a seasoned and experienced doctor.
Now, the trio fully believed Bonnie was indeed the miracle doctor.
Much time went by. Bonnie decided it was time and pulled out all the silver needles from
Mairi’s body.
“Do you feel better, Mom?”
Mairi stood up and flexed her limbs. The look of pleasant surprise gradually spread across her face as she swung and waved them.
“I feel lighter, and my limbs feel warm. Here, honey. Touch my hands. Do they feel warm to you?”
Daken held Mairi’s hands and was surprised as well. “Jeezums. Your hands used to feel cold to the touch, even during the hottest days in summer.‘
Really? Let me give it a try, too.” Avril cupped her mother’s hand hastily and said, Wow. You’re right, Dad. Good Golly. They don’t call you the miracle doctor for nothing, Bonnie. You’ve only treated Mom once, yet her hands are already warm!”
