Ch. 1051..1060
Chapter 1051
Armand had a lot of work to deal with lately, and he didn't even have the time to return to the office. Genevieve could only see him at night after work.
Genevieve's heart ached for him. She would help him with whatever she could do for him.
After she was done with work in the morning, she went to the State Taxation Administration to help Armand run some errands and send a document. However, her car broke down when she was on her way back.
Unable to drive any further, Genevieve got out of the car and put up a warning triangle before calling the nearest garage.
Suddenly, a black Audi drove past her. It then reversed and stopped in front of her car after driving over ten meters away.
A young man came out of the car and approached Genevieve. "Did your car break down?"
At that time, Genevieve was still waiting for the garage to pick up her call. She froze momentarily when she suddenly saw a man approach her. "Oh, yes. I've already called the nearest garage." "It'll take them a while to get here." The man rolled up his sleeves. "May I help?"
Upon saying that, the kindhearted man went ahead to open up the car hood and checked the engine bay. He even told Genevieve to get into the car and try starting the car.
Instead of rejecting his help, Genevieve hung up the phone and did as she was told.
A few minutes later, she eventually got the car engine running again. Slightly surprised, she got out of the car to thank the man.
"Thank you." Genevieve wanted to give the man some money as a reward.
The man waved dismissively and said, "An uncle of mine owns a garage. Even if someone were to bump into you, they would also offer you help."
They were on the motorway, so it was inappropriate to park their cars there for too long. The man left shortly after the conversation.
Genevieve didn't chase after the man and force him to accept her money. She got into her car and drove away.
With her car up and running again, Genevieve went back to the office to get the rest of her work done. Once she was done, she couldn't help but take out her phone to text Armand. She received Armand's reply after making a cup of coffee for herself. He told her he had just arrived in Springwyn and would most probably not be back in time to have dinner with her. Genevieve wasn't worried about not having food for dinner because she knew he had left a lot of food in the fridge. She simply missed him dearly.
Time passes so slowly when I don't see him.
Just then, someone knocked on her door. Genevieve kept her phone in the drawer and sat up straight. When she glanced in the direction of the door, she saw a young man dressed in a suit standing at the door.
The man's dark hair was neat, and his eyes were sunken. Despite having single eyelids, he had beautiful eyes.
He was also tall and elegant. All in all, he was an attractive-looking man.
Genevieve was stunned after she got a good look at the man's face. Right away, she was reminded of her car breaking down earlier in the morning. "Aren't you the knight in shining armor I met this morning?" The man recognized Genevieve as well. "I didn't know you work here. What a coincidence!" He smiled.
Genevieve took Cali's spot while Cassandra had been transferred to another department. The Department of Public Information was understaffed, so Sean Little was transferred over from Feston.
In truth, it had been a few days since Sean had arrived. However, he had yet to meet Genevieve because he had been busy.
Genevieve also felt quite amazed by the coincidence. Who would've thought that the man who helped me this morning would be my new colleague?
Sean had a brief chat with her and passed her a document before he left. It was then Genevieve remembered that he had forgotten to give him some money.
Genevieve was willing to forget about the matter if she did not see Sean again. However, knowing he was working in the same department as her, she didn't want to owe him any favors.
This is not the place to owe anyone a favor.
Despite what she thought, Genevieve was busy the entire afternoon, and he soon forgot about Sean. After work, she received a text from Charlotte. Charlotte told her she had found a nice restaurant for delicious crayfish.
Since Armand wasn't going home for dinner that night, Genevieve drove to fetch Charlotte after work.
Chapter 1052
Charlotte had been at the spa for the entire afternoon. Not only did she smell nice, but her cheeks were also soft and smooth.
Holding a cream-colored bag, she got into Genevieve's car and complained, "How could you pick me up in such a shabby car? Genevieve, do you know my bag is worth hundreds of thousands?" She picked up her bag and waved it in front of Genevieve.
"I'm used to this car because my man sends me to work in this car too. You can walk if you don't want to sit in this car," Genevieve replied expressionlessly.
Seeing that Genevieve was about to stop the car, Charlotte stopped showing off and turned on the car navigation system.
The crayfish restaurant Charlotte talked about was in the suburb.
The restaurant owner farmed those crayfish himself, and it was the crayfish season that would last for three months. Because of that, the restaurant was expected to have an endless stream of customers. Charlotte had only managed to reserve a table through a friend of hers.
When Genevieve found out the place was located in the suburb, she switched on her phone tracker and shared it with Armand. The weather doesn't look good. I think it's going to rain tonight when we leave the restaurant.
After an hour's drive, they arrived at their destination. The shops around the restaurant were all eateries. Since it was dinnertime, the area was rather crowded.
In fact, the crayfish restaurant was so packed that the air conditioning couldn't even mask the smell of crayfish.
The table Genevieve and Charlotte reserved was a table next to the window.
Charlotte hadn't eaten anything, so she ended up ordering all the signature dishes from the restaurant.
After opening a can of soda and putting her straw in, Charlotte said, "It's such a shame my boyfriend is away to shoot a film. Otherwise, we would have someone to peel our crayfish for us." "Would you have looked for me if your boyfriend was free?" Genevieve scoffed.
"Hey, that's unfair." Charlotte pretended to be mad. "I brought you here to have delicious food, yet you're accusing me of using you to beat boredom? I would've gone to a bar if that was the case." Genevieve took a sip of her coffee. "I bet it's because your boyfriend has forbidden you from going to bars."
Genevieve was right, and Charlotte looked dejected when she heard those words.
"Men are all trash." Charlotte bit her straw begrudgingly. "He seduced me first, but afterward, he told me if I were to go to a bar when he's away, he wouldn't let me sleep with him anymore." If Charlotte's ex-boyfriend were to do that to her, she would've gotten angry at him and dumped him.
However, not only did she like everything about Jerry, but she still found a sense of novelty in him. If she were to dump him, it would take her a long time to find a replacement. Charlotte had no choice but to endure it.
Upon hearing those words, Genevieve quickly corrected Charlotte by saying, "Please exclude Armand when you say all men are trash."
"You're so annoying!" Charlotte rolled her eyes at Genevieve.
Shortly after, the server served them two bowls of crayfish and some grilled dishes.
"Hey, Genevieve..." Charlotte voiced out coyly and showed Genevieve her hands. "I just did my nails today. Don't they look nice? I even have diamonds on them."
"Do you remember the gemstone piece I bought for you?" Genevieve uttered flatly and passed Charlotte some gloves.
Charlotte gritted her teeth and put on the gloves reluctantly.
In order to protect her nails, Charlotte wore five layers of gloves. She also constantly reminded Genevieve that Genevieve was the first woman she had peeled crayfish for.
In response, Genevieve replied indifferently, "I'm honored."
The crayfish served at the restaurant was rather delicious. The flesh was plump and juicy, and it was perfect to eat along with the special gravy.
As they were eating, Genevieve could vaguely hear someone with a familiar voice talking.
When she turned toward the entrance, she saw two men standing there. One of the men was asking the restaurant owner if there was any table available. The owner then told the men they were supposed to call in advance to make a reservation.
Genevieve immediately recognized one of the men.
Chapter 1053
Since Sean had helped her with her car earlier in the morning, Genevieve unhesitatingly called out, "Hey, Sean!"
Sean turned toward her, and he was surprised to see her there. Upon seeing her waving at him, he brought his friend over to her table.
Genevieve told the restaurant owner they were her friends and told the server to bring over two extra chairs.
She and Charlotte were sitting at a round table, so they had enough space for two extra people.
Sean took his seat and said to Genevieve, "Someone told me this crayfish restaurant is famous, so I brought my friend along to try it out. I didn't know I had to call in advance to make a reservation. Thank goodness you're here. Otherwise, we would have to go home hungry."
Genevieve poured him a glass of drink. "You helped me with my car this morning, but you refused to take my money. I was wondering how I should make it up to you. I'll treat you and your friend to a meal!" Genevieve introduced Sean and his friend to Charlotte. After all, they were going to have dinner together.
In the past, Charlotte would have definitely thrown herself at a tall and handsome man like Sean. But with Jerry in the picture, she didn't even bother sparing Sean a second glance.
In fact, she even said to Genevieve, "I'm keeping myself pure for my boyfriend."
Genevieve was rendered speechless.
Although everyone had just met each other, they all had good personalities, so there wasn't a single awkward moment throughout the meal, not to mention Sean and Genevieve were working in the same department. All in all, they had pleasant conversations with each other.
After she was done eating, Genevieve pretended to go to the restroom to look for the restaurant owner. She paid the bill after ordering a few more servings of crayfish. She wanted to give some to Sean and bring the rest home.
The amount of crayfish sold per day was limited. Genevieve paid extra to the restaurant owner, and the latter quickly told the cooks to prepare more crayfish.
Charlotte was in the restroom for a long while. By the time she came out, the restaurant owner had already packed up the crayfish.
Genevieve took her bag and the food from the table and said to Sean, "I've already paid for the meal. We'll make a move now. I'm afraid it's going to rain."
Sean smiled and nodded. "Be safe on the road."
As Genevieve and Charlotte exited the restaurant, Charlotte sniffed her hands and grumbled, "I've washed my hands with soap ten times. Why do they still smell like crayfish?" Upon hearing that, Genevieve finally knew why Charlotte had stayed in the restroom for so long-she had been washing her hands.
"Smell my hands. Even my diamonds stink!" Charlotte was on the verge of losing her mind. "I just did my nails! I should've gotten the servers to help us peel the crayfish."
"That's enough." Genevieve was having none of it. "I'll pay for your manicure next time."
Pleased to hear that, Charlotte got into the car.
Genevieve was still driving on the street filled with eateries when it started drizzling. She quickly turned on the wipers and glanced at her phone. By the time we get back to the city, it's going to be past eleven. Armand should be back in Jadeborough by then.
There weren't a lot of streetlights on the path to the main road. With the rain pouring down, she could barely see the road ahead.
Genevieve was focused on driving when she suddenly saw rays of blinding light coming from the front. Sounds of engine revving could be heard, then she saw four to five motorcycles coming her way. Narrowing her eyes, she wanted to step harder on the accelerator. Let's see if these bikes are afraid of a car.
However, her car suddenly broke down.
Genevieve immediately rolled up the window on Charlotte's side and locked all the car doors before trying to ignite her car engine. Unfortunately, it just wouldn't start.
Her car was stuck there, and those bikers quickly arrived and surrounded them.
Chapter 1054
Charlotte was texting her boyfriend because she wanted him to take a video of his hotel room to see if he was with a girl. Despite what she was doing, she noticed the car had come to a halt.
When she lifted her head, she was frightened by the faces she saw through the car window.
"What the f*ck!" Charlotte cursed and turned to Genevieve. "What happened? Were we forced to stop?"
"No," Genevieve answered. "The car broke down, and I can't start the engine."
Earlier that day, she had sent the car to a service center to get it checked out, as she was worried that it had a problem. Little did she expect the car to break down again after they had their dinner. Genevieve glanced outside and said calmly, "I think these people had their eyes on us when we were eating at the crayfish restaurant."
No one had kept an eye on the car when they were eating. Genevieve knew anyone could've easily messed with her car. The car is definitely gone, and there are six to seven men outside. Charlotte and I are just like lambs waiting to be slaughtered.
She touched her pearl earrings and tapped on the pearls twice.
When she changed her earrings the day before, Armand had told her there was an alarm and positioning device in the pair of pearl earrings. All she needed to do was tap on the pearls twice to activate the function. If she were to activate it, he would receive the call for help as well.
Armand knew how much she disliked having bodyguards around her, but he would always get worried whenever she was far away from him. That was how he came up with the idea for the earrings. Baffled, Charlotte asked, "Is this not your first time visiting this place?"
"If I've been here before, would I need you to help with navigation?" Genevieve fumed before sizing Charlotte up. "Who told you to dress so provocatively? Surely they had their eyes on you." Taking advantage of the fact that Jerry was away for filming, Charlotte wore a tank top and an embroidered short skirt. Moreover, she had fair skin.
Genevieve had given Charlotte a jacket earlier, but it couldn't cover up her alluring thighs.
When they were eating at the crayfish restaurant earlier, Genevieve noticed the customers sitting at the table behind them staring at Charlotte's back every time she looked up.
Feeling aggrieved, Charlotte retorted, "I don't think I'm provocatively dressed. How could you blame me for being born pretty?"
The men outside the car couldn't hear them because the windows were rolled up and Genevieve and Charlotte were conversing softly. As they had been waiting under the rain, they were getting frustrated. A man standing in front of the window on the driver's side knocked on the window with his fist.
Genevieve took a deep breath and turned toward the man. Through the car window, she asked, "Yes?"
"Hey, beautiful. Did your car break down?" The man grinned and shifted his gaze toward Genevieve's breasts. "Where are you going? We can give you a ride!"
Initially, the men were there for Charlotte, but they didn't expect to find another looker.
Genevieve smiled and rejected him by saying, "No thanks. I've already called the garage."
The expression of the man outside the window turned grim all of a sudden. "I've been drenched in the rain for quite a while now. I'm just offering help. It's not nice of you to reject me."
Noticing the hostility in the man's eyes, Genevieve asked calmly, "What do you guys want?"
"I'm a gentleman," the man answered. "Why don't you girls drink with us? I'll get someone to fix your car. By the time we're done drinking, your car will be fixed too."
"What if we say no?" Genevieve asked.
The man knocked on the window with his fist again and said in a threatening tone, "In that case, I'll have to force open the door and get you girls to join us."
Charlotte's face turned pale when she heard what the man said. She had never been kidnapped before. In fact, ever since she was little, she had been the one assaulting others instead of the other way around.
We're surrounded by a group of men! I even saw some of them holding baseball bats. I'm only good at verbal confrontation, and that's not going to help me get out of this.
Chapter 1055
Charlotte whispered, "I've already called the police, but I don't know how long it's going to take them to get here."
Genevieve pursed her lips. "We'll be dead by the time they get here."
Not only was Armand still in Springwyn, but even if he was back, he would need to drive for more than an hour to get to them. The men outside their car would not give them that much time. However, Genevieve still thought Armand was more reliable than the police.
As the man outside the car was rushing for her to go out, Genevieve thought she would do as she was told to buy some time. If these men run out of patience, Charlotte and I will be in big trouble. The moment Genevieve unlocked the car, the man outside her car suddenly stood up and walked to the back of her car. Seeing that, she immediately looked into the rearview mirror.
Only then did she see Sean coming out of his car and talking to the man. She could vaguely hear Sean telling the man that she was Sean's friend.
Sean was talking nicely to the man, and he even offered the man money. However, the man told him to scram, and he said he was determined to land Genevieve and Charlotte. Sean threw a punch at the man, and a fight quickly broke out.
Genevieve was smart enough to know that Sean was actually buying her time.
She whipped out a mini electric baton from her bag and gave it to Charlotte. "I'll unlock the door. If the men come at you after you get out of the car, use this on them and run toward Sean's car." Charlotte memorized the functions of the electric baton and uttered emotionally, "You're so nice, Genev. You gave me an electric baton at such a—"
Before she could finish her sentence, she saw Genevieve taking out another electric baton from the glove compartment.
Sean and his friend were getting beaten up by the group of men. Right then, one of the men saw Genevieve and Charlotte getting out of the car, and he dashed toward Genevieve.
As he was approaching her, Genevieve switched the electric baton on and used it on the man. The man was left twitching on the ground.
Although Genevieve was holding an electric baton, those men weren't afraid. With Sean already heavily beaten up, the men turned their attention toward Genevieve.
Obviously, she wasn't capable of defending herself from so many men at once. Soon, they took her electric baton away and grabbed her wrists.
Genevieve frowned in pain. It was then she could vaguely hear a continuous thrumming sound. She lifted her head and looked at the night sky. There, she saw a helicopter approaching them and there seemed to be someone standing outside the cabin.
In the next second, Genevieve heard a shrill cry of pain, and her wrists were freed.
A man then fell to the ground, groaning in pain, and one of his legs had blood all over it.
When the others saw that their partner in crime seemed to have been shot, their faces turned pale. Not only were they backing away from Genevieve and Charlotte, but they also dropped the sticks in their hands and raised their hands into the air.
The helicopter slowly descended near Genevieve and the rest. The gusts of wind generated by the helicopter were so strong that everyone's clothes and hair were all over the place.
It was raining then, so Genevieve was drenched. Although the rain was making it hard for her to see, she could clearly see a tall figure stepping on the rope that was lowered from the helicopter. The tall figure took a leap and landed on the ground steadily.
It was such an indescribable scene for Genevieve, and she couldn't stop herself from running toward Armand and hugging him tightly
After regaining his footing, Armand held an umbrella over her head and asked, "Are you hurt?"
Genevieve shook her head and looked up at him. Still hugging his waist, she said, "I thought you would rush over in your car. I was worried that you would get into an accident because of the rain. I can't believe you came here in a helicopter! That's so cool!"
Noticing how composed she was and that she didn't seem frightened, Armand lowered his head and kissed her on her lips. In response, Genevieve wrapped her arms around his neck and bit his lips. Under the rain, Charlotte snapped, "Hey! There's a time and place for public displays of affection, and now is not the time nor the place!"
Charlotte thought Genevieve was a reserved woman, but that didn't seem to be the case.
Chapter 1056
The men became pliant, for they noticed Armand, who was armed, wasn't to be trifled with, so they told him how Genevieve's car had broken down and what they were planning.
None of them knew Genevieve or Charlotte. They only began stalking Charlotte because they were offered money.
After stalking Charlotte for a few days, they noticed her having a meal with a female friend of hers in the suburbs that day, which was a chance for them to kidnap Charlotte and take photos of her. However, they ended up trying to kidnap Genevieve too upon noticing her beauty.
Yet, their plan was busted by the sudden change.
Genevieve managed to buy themselves some time with her quick thinking until help arrived, and Armand came too.
The men fixed Genevieve's car deftly. By then, the police had arrived as well. After explaining the situation, Armand handed the men over to the police.
He made his identity known, so the police dared not dally and proceeded to arrest the men for interrogation.
Sean had taken a few blows and scraped his face when fighting the men.
"Thank you for buying us time just now," Genevieve said after retrieving clean towels for them.
Sean wiped away the blood at the corner of his mouth using the towel while replying nonchalantly, "Anybody would have lent a helping hand as I did. Besides, we wouldn't have gotten those crayfish if it weren't for you."
Sean and his friend left right after, seeing that Armand would be taking over and that Sean's friend could still drive.
After Genevieve got back into the car, Charlotte lamented, "Your boyfriend is so awesome! He rushed here on a helicopter for fear of you getting into danger. Mine is utterly useless!" Charlotte riled up as she spoke. "Fine! I'm getting a new boyfriend!"
Someone knocked on the car window just as Genevieve was about to say something.
Charlotte was still throwing a tantrum and wasn't paying attention to her surroundings, so Genevieve reached out, lowering the window to reveal a man standing outside.
The man was in a tuxedo with his long wig fixed on top of his head using a quaint-looking accessory. Despite the odd mashup, he looked gorgeous, given his outstanding features.
He seemed rather lackadaisical with his brows arched and gave off the vibes of a hooligan.
Genevieve asked Charlotte, "Is he here for you?"
Charlotte let out a yelp after turning to look out the window. Then she popped her head out with her hands on the edge of the window. "Jerry, what are you doing here?" "How can I not be here when you've called me so many times?"
Charlotte's face fell as she yelled at him, "You useless bumpkin! Genev's man rushed over at top speed when she was in trouble! And look at you! You even complained when I called! A video of me would've been posted on some malicious website if it weren't for Armand! Go away! We're breaking-"
She had yet to finish her sentence when Jerry lifted her chin to seal her lips with a kiss.
After backing away from her, he lowered his gaze to study her. "What did you just say?"
"I said..." Charlotte noticed the drastic change in his aura. He no longer doted on her as usual. Instead, his malignant aura felt as if it would pierce her like sharp blades.
That was the first time Charlotte had seen him like that. Her chin ached from being pinched by him, but she couldn't push him away.
Her feelings of aggrievement peaked at that moment, and her eyes reddened. "Why are you being so aggressive toward me? Can't I criticize you when you're in the wrong? What's wrong with me wanting to break up? I never liked you much anyway!"
Jerry unhanded her and replied in resignation, "Mr. Faulkner was in Jadeborough, so he could, of course, arrive earlier. I was in Baykeep and would've needed more time even if I were to come on a helicopter. I left the filming set as soon as I got your first message. I didn't even get to remove my makeup. Haven't I already done my best?"
"You looked so aggressive just now," said Charlotte. "How dare you be so mean to me when I'm providing for you? You have disrespected your patron! We're breaking up!"
"Are we really breaking up?" Jerry narrowed his eyes. "You'd better think this through." He caressed Charlotte's cheek. "You won't find another man as obedient as me and who could please you day and night." Genevieve maintained a blank expression while wishing that they would talk outside, so as to spare her the details.
Chapter 1057
Charlotte wasn't someone difficult to begin with. Besides, Jerry did end up coming for her despite being late. He managed to soothe her, and the two of them left together.
After that, Armand drove Genevieve home personally.
While on their way back, Genevieve, who was in the passenger seat, kept throwing him glances. She was filled with feelings of satisfaction as she admired his profile from afar and his bony hands on the steering wheel.
If it weren't for the fact that they were on the highway and he had to focus on driving, she would've grabbed his hand and fiddled with it.
Armand wasn't facing her, but he could sense her passionate gaze. He muttered, "Can't you look elsewhere? I can't concentrate if you stare at me like this."
"Do you not like me staring at you?" Genevieve questioned deliberately. "I get it now. I'm going to stare at other men from now on. After all, there's nothing interesting about a guy like you. No wonder Jerry became a celebrity. He's young and good-looking."
Armand commented drily, "I should've had someone else drive the car back and left with you on the helicopter.”
I can at least spare a moment to shut her up when she talks gibberish.
It was almost past midnight when the car arrived at the garage in Regality Gardens.
Genevieve unbuckled herself and stepped over the gearbox to support herself on the driver's seat with her knee. She pressed Armand back into the seat just as he was about to get up, and he raised his head slightly to look at her.
Her forehead almost touched his as she muffled a laugh. "I was joking. With how handsome you are, no celebrities even come close to you. I wanted to kiss you, but you were driving. I worried that messing around might cause an accident, so I could only watch from afar." Genevieve reached for his hand. Their fingers brushed against each other before intertwining together.
When he raised his head slightly and revealed his slender neck, she noticed his Adam's apple bobbing and couldn't help but lean in to kiss it.
Armand tightened his arm around her waist because of her movements.
He moved his hand upward to pinch and lift Genevieve's head by the chin. He kissed her lips, and it wasn't until her breathing became labored that he felt better.
He brushed his thumb across the corner of her lips and stated in a hoarse voice, "You're a natural at teasing."
"Don't say it like you've known me since I was little." Genevieve chuckled. Supporting herself on the seat by the knee was tiring, so she sat on his lap and allowed him to hold her. She looped her arms around his neck and arched her brows. "I learned it from you."
He had tended to seduce her before they got together, during which she had held herself back. After they slept together, she saw no more reason to hold back.
After all, he would tolerate all of her shenanigans no matter what she did.
"My heart races whenever I imagine you rushing to my aid once you were alerted to my situation." Genevieve leaned in to kiss him. "I knew you'd come. Tell me, what do you want as a reward?" "Must you ask that here and now?" Armand was burning with desire at the touch of her smooth skin.
Genevieve raised her brows. "Oh? Do you not feel like talking but doing the act?" Before Armand could say anything, she poked him in his chest with a serious look on her face. "You're a government official, Mr. Faulkner. You can't be so filthy-minded! Also, the rules stipulate that superiors aren't supposed to be involved in relationships with their subordinates. You've violated the rules."
"What am I supposed to say with you dictating everything?" Armand exclaimed in mock exasperation. "Do you need me to resign tomorrow?"
Genevieve whispered, "That won't be necessary. I'll keep it a secret for you." She leaned in to unbutton his shirt and planted kisses on his collarbone. "Since you parked the car inside, shall we give it a go?" Armand was already having a hard time holding himself back, so he went along with her suggestion.
Although there wasn't much space in the car, they both sweated a lot.
When Armand carried Genevieve out of the car, she recalled the crayfish in the trunk, so she had him unlock the trunk to take out the crayfish.
Chapter 1058
After entering the house, she sat cross-legged on the floor and put on a pair of gloves. "I've never even peeled crayfish for anyone, so consider yourself incredibly lucky."
Armand nodded. "Yeah, I am indeed very lucky."
"You look like a respectable gentleman on the outside, but you're a freaking pervert on the inside," Genevieve commented as she opened the box.
As the box was airtight, the crayfish was still steaming hot even after a few hours.
Genevieve carefully removed the head of the crayfish, peeled off its shell, dipped it in some gravy, and fed it to Armand.
"It's not bad," Armand said after eating it.
"Of course! This restaurant specializes in crayfish dishes, after all. See what a nice person I am? I always share all the delicious food I find with you! In return, I want poached salmon and scones for breakfast tomorrow!" Genevieve said while feeding him another chunk of crayfish.
"Sure thing."
Seeing as Armand had agreed to her request, Genevieve took her gloves off and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Enjoy the crayfish, Sir! I can't stand being all sweaty, so I'm going to go take a shower!" "Wait, I thought you were going to peel the crayfish for me? You've only peeled two! What about the rest?" Armand asked.
"Oh, I'm done with it. It leaves a strong smell on my hands, which is really hard to wash off." Genevieve hadn't forgotten how Charlotte's hands still smelled like crayfish after ten washes.
Eurydice had just gone downstairs to have breakfast with her mother when the doorbell rang. Karolina came rushing in the moment the housekeeper opened the door.
Although she was a little displeased with her sudden intrusion, Eurydice maintained a gentle smile as she asked, "What brings you here so early today, Aunt Karolina?"
After greeting Eurydice's mother, Gwendolyn, Karolina dragged Eurydice aside and whispered anxiously, "Eurydice, you've got to save Beatrix!"
"What happened to her?" Eurydice asked with a frown.
"The housekeeper told me that a group of men burst into her house and took her by force!" Despite seeming like a powerful woman, Karolina's husband wasn't a government official. The only reason people feared her was because of her connection to the Gaudette family.
Since no one else could help her save her daughter, she had no choice but to seek the Gaudette family's assistance.
The look in Eurydice's eyes turned slightly gloomy as she whispered, "Those men must have someone powerful backing them up if they dared abduct Beatrix from her house. Did she make any enemies lately?"
Beatrix Lowe used to abuse the power she gained from the Gaudette family's reputation. She had even stolen Charlotte's boyfriend.
The issue was resolved peacefully, as the Benson family were merchants and didn't dare mess with the Gaudette family. Even so, word quickly got out about the incident, and the Gaudette family's reputation took an indirect hit as a result.
However, the Lowe family had been assisting the Gaudette family financially, and Karolina was on good terms with Gwendolyn. Had that not been the case, the Gaudette family would've cut ties with the Lowe family long ago.
Beatrix received a beating from her father for what she had done, and she didn't dare go around causing trouble anymore.
Karolina fell silent and had a hesitant look on her face.
Eurydice's tone grew cold as she said, "Aunt Karolina, you can't just come to us for help every single time. What if Beatrix killed someone? Are you going to have us take responsibility for it too? I don't mean to sound Hide, but you and my mother are just cousins. Our family has done more than enough by helping your husband with his business."
Karolina's face contorted when she heard that, but she also knew that Eurydice was right.
She then told her the truth. "The housekeeper told me that Beatrix gave someone a call a few days ago. She was asking the person to kidnap Charlotte..."
That was when Eurydice understood what was going on.
In that case, Beatrix's kidnapping is probably related to Charlotte in some way.
Eurydice called the police and had them check the surveillance camera footage in the city.
It wasn't long before they found the footage of Beatrix being brought to a hotel by a group of men at dawn. The men left at about seven in the morning, but Beatrix wasn't with them.
Eurydice rushed over to the hotel with Karolina, obtained the keycard from the front desk, and headed upstairs as quickly as they could.
In less than twenty minutes, they arrived outside the room Beatrix was in. After they opened the door, the strong smell of semen flooded their noses.
Upon realizing what had happened inside the room, Karolina ran inside and saw Beatrix lying naked on the bed with hickeys all over her body.
Chapter 1059
"Beatrix! Beatrix!" Karolina called out to her repeatedly while smacking her across the cheek.
Even after being woken up, Beatrix still had a dazed look in her eyes because of the drug she was given.
It wasn't until Karolina gave her a cold shower in the bathroom that she slowly came to.
When Beatrix saw the hickeys on her body and recalled being kidnapped, she started screaming and bawled her eyes out.
"This has got to be Charlotte's doing! You have to avenge me, Eurydice!" she said with teary eyes when she stepped outside and saw Eurydice.
After glancing at the stuff on the nightstand, Eurydice turned toward her and shouted angrily, "Why did you hire someone to kidnap Charlotte? Have you lost your mind?"
Beatrix lowered her head submissively when faced with Eurydice's domineering aura. "My mom told me you guys ran into Charlotte at the auction the other day. I heard how Genevieve had humiliated you guys, but I know I couldn't afford to mess with her, so I went after Charlotte instead. She wasn't married to Jamison Moore at the time, so he's free to be with anyone he likes! It's her fault that he doesn't like her! I haven't even gotten back at her for giving me a freaking concussion, and she dares do this to me?"
Beatrix couldn't stand how bold Charlotte had gotten simply because she had someone powerful backing her up, so she had hired some guys to teach her a lesson.
She figured the Benson family's reputation would be ruined if inappropriate pictures of Charlotte were to go viral online.
However, things didn't exactly turn out that way. Not only did she not receive any updates from the men she hired, but she got abducted by Charlotte's men.
With a gloomy look on her face, Eurydice tossed the photographs at Beatrix and yelled, "You should've done your research more thoroughly before going after Charlotte! Do you really think Genevieve is the only one backing her up?"
The sharp edges of the photographs gave her a cut on the cheek, but she couldn't even be bothered to wince in pain as she saw herself in all sorts of nasty positions.
There was a note on the floor with a short sentence written on it and a wax seal of the Pann family crest at the bottom.
Eurydice's face clouded over. "Her current boyfriend is from the Pann family."
That was when Beatrix recalled what she had heard from her friends in Xedells.
The Pann family had always kept a low profile in Xedells, so the public knew little about them. They were on good terms with the Faulkner family in Xedells and had helped the Faulkner family resolve all sorts of problems. Eventually, the Pann family got acquainted with some government officials and served as bodyguards for the Homptons and many other government officials.
"I heard rumors about her current boyfriend being some small-time celebrity. I think his last name is Pann..." Beatrix mumbled in disbelief.
It was highly unlikely for a member of the Pann family to get involved in the entertainment industry, so it was only natural that Beatrix didn't believe those rumors.
Eurydice massaged her forehead and said calmly, "They have plenty more of these photographs. Her boyfriend is clearly planning on blackmailing you."
Beatrix grabbed Eurydice by the arm as she pleaded, "W-What should I do, then? You've got to help me, Eurydice! You're my cousin. Your family's reputation would be affected too if they leaked those photographs!"
Eurydice brushed her arm off and shouted coldly, "Don't call me your cousin! I can't believe you'd be dumb enough to use such methods against someone like Charlotte! You're lucky you didn't mess with Genevieve, or I'd probably kill you myself!"
Beatrix burst out crying. "Eurydice!"
Karolina stepped forward and pleaded with Eurydice as well, "Please help her out, Eurydice. She's a married woman. She really can't afford to have those photographs leaked."
"Go apologize to Charlotte," Eurydice said after a long pause.
After exiting the hotel, Eurydice got into the passenger seat of a car parked next to the road.
Through the rear-view mirror, she saw Karolina and Beatrix leave the hotel in a Mercedes-Benz. The two of them seemed to be in quite a hurry.
An icy-cold look formed in Eurydice's eyes as she whipped out her phone and made a call.
Chapter 1060
Genevieve received a notice from her superior that all departments would stagger their off days for a team-building event.
As it was her first time attending a team-building event, she was a little surprised by the announcement.
Genevieve called the department and had them send her a list of all their names. She had just gotten off the call when her phone started ringing on the desk.
Since she wasn't actively dealing with anyone at the moment, Genevieve answered the call, only to hear Charlotte yelling angrily, "F*ck! Do you know why your car broke down last night? It was because of that b*tch Beatrix! She hired a bunch of men to teach me a lesson! Oh, in case you didn't know, Beatrix is Eurydice's cousin. She's the one who stole my first love."
"Yeah, I know who she is. Those men revealed that information themselves, didn't they? You want me to help you teach Beatrix a lesson?" Genevieve knew who Beatrix was. She just didn't expect that Beatrix was the one who hired those men.
"No. That b*tch came and apologized to me. She actually asked me to forgive her! Can you believe it? I want nothing but to tear her to pieces! There's no way I can forgive her! Still, Beatrix has the Gaudette family backing her up, so there wasn't much I could do to her. In the end, I let her off with a mild punishment. Your man sure is something else, Genevieve!"
She knew full well that Beatrix had only apologized because she was afraid of Armand.
Charlotte gave Genevieve a few kisses over the phone and said in a childlike manner, "Thank you so much for the help, Genevieve! I'll be sure to treat you to a meal!"
Genevieve felt goosebumps after hearing that and quickly hung up the phone.
Armand only returned to the office when it was almost time to get off work. Genevieve quickly closed the door behind her and massaged his shoulders.
Armand turned around to look at her as he asked, "You need something from me?"
"No, not at all! I just wanted to give you a massage because you looked tired, that's all! I can't believe you'd think I have a motive for treating you well!" Genevieve replied with a pout while massaging his temples.
Armand let out a chuckle and leaned back in his chair.
After helping him relax, Genevieve brought him a cup of coffee and gave him a quick peck on the lips. "You look so handsome, Sir!"
"Come on, out with it. What is it that you want? You want me to go shopping with you? Or did you find a nice place for dinner?"
Genevieve shook her head and buttoned up his shirt collar as she asked, "I think the superiors like you very much. Do you think you can become the mayor someday?"
Armand shot her a glance. "You really want me to become the mayor?"
"I wouldn't say that. I just don't want others to bully me, you know? The more power you hold, the safer I feel."
"It's not good to be such a gold-digger, Mrs. Faulkner. Are you in love with me or the power that I hold?" Armand asked with a displeased frown.
Genevieve rolled her eyes at him. "My family is wealthy, so why would I be a gold digger? Besides, you only like me for my good looks!"
Armand gently caressed her cheek and said with a chuckle, "I'll go for it if you like it that much."
He was willing to give her anything that she wanted.
Genevieve gave him another kiss on the cheek. She was about to tell him about the team-building event when his phone rang.
In less than ten seconds after he answered the call, the look on his face changed. "I'll head over to the hospital in a bit," he said before hanging up the phone.
He turned toward Genevieve and continued, "I need to make a trip to the hospital. You can head home without me. There are some meatballs in the fridge. You can heat those up for dinner if I don't come home tonight."
Genevieve had wanted to ask him what the call was about, but Armand was in such a hurry that he grabbed his coat, gave her a kiss, and ran out of the office.
