Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1011

“Manor?” A confused look appeared in Ye Moxuan’s eyes when he heard that.

Han Muzi snapped back to her senses. Having lost his memories, he did not remember the manor. She explained, “It’s the previous residence of the Ye Family. We used to live there five years ago. Later…” Later, she left, so she did not know when they moved away from that place.

By the time she returned to China, she did not care to know about the state the manor was in. It wasn’t until recently that she found out the manor had been vacant for many years. That was because Old Master Ye had been placed in a nursing home all this time, while Ye Linhan had established himself on his own and no longer lived there either. Needless to say, based on his temper, Ye Moxuan could not continue living in that house.

“What happened later?” Ye Moxuan responded, seemingly not too bothered by it.

“I’m not sure. You have to ask Xiao Su about the situation at the time.” He had always been by Ye Moxuan’s side, so he would be the best person to ask about this.

Xiao Su? Ye Moxuan pursed his lips and nodded. “I will handle this matter; don’t worry.”

“Okay.”

The next afternoon, Ye Moxuan called Xiao Su to his office and asked about the manor. At the mention of the manor, Xiao Su’s expression became a little odd. “Why are you asking about the manor, Young Master Ye?”

“What’s wrong?” Ye Moxuan studied his expression. “Is there a problem with the manor?”

Scratching his head, Xiao Su explained, “It’s not that there’s a problem with it; it’s just that it has been vacant for a very long time. Are you planning to go back there to live there, Young Master Ye?”

Live there? He thought back to the words Han Muzi said to him the other day—she had mentioned that they used to live there. So, if they stayed there again, would he be able to recover his memories by retracing the steps of his daily life there? Mulling over it, he nodded. “Send some people there to prepare and clean the place out. I will check it out the day after.”

“Understood, Young Master Ye.” After responding, Xiao Su left the office feeling a little dispirited.

Young Master Ye… had greatly despised that manor. That was the place Old Master Ye had lived in; the manor was also built by Old Master Ye when he was young. Then, when both sides turned against each other, Ye Moxuan had taken over the entire Ye Group and sent the old man to a nursing home. To put it nicely, it was a nursing home, but in actuality, it was a mental hospital. Afterward, Young Master Ye had sent people there to seal up the house and left it as was until now. He never expected there would come a day where the manor would be unsealed again.

After serious consideration, Xiao Su decided that Young Master Ye would not order him to do this unless there was a special reason behind it. So, it would be better to give Han Muzi a call before he did anything. On the surface, it might seem like Young Master Ye was the one making all the decisions, but it was Young Lady Ye who wore the pants!

Han Muzi was astonished to receive a call from Xiao Su. She couldn’t believe that he had turned toward her for her opinion when Ye Moxuan was the one to give him instructions. When did I start holding so much authority? When she confirmed that she was the one that brought up this matter to Ye Moxuan, Xiao Su secretly thought in his heart, I was right; if it wasn’t for Young Lady Ye, how could Young Master Ye possibly mention the Ye Family manor all of a sudden? As the thought passed through his mind, Xiao Su recounted the events of the past to Han Muzi.

“Yes, I am aware of everything you just told me. However, your Young Master Ye currently does not have his memories. We are not planning to live there. We will only be visiting the place once in a while. After all, it was a place he used to live in. Maybe it can jolt his memories and make him remember something.”

At her words, he nodded. “Understood, Young Lady Ye.”

“That’s right. Why did you ask for my opinion relating to something your Young Master Ye had asked you to do?” Finally, Han Muzi couldn’t resist asking.

Xiao Su responded, “Young Lady Ye, to tell you the truth, right now, you’re probably the only person Young Master Ye listens to. So, I must call to confirm it with you.”

I see. In her heart, she felt that the gesture was sweet, but she said nothing more. As they were about to end the call, Xiao Su suddenly called out to her.

“What’s wrong, Xiao Su? Is there something else?”

When questioned by Han Muzi, Xiao Su couldn’t say the words on the tip of his tongue. Han Muzi heard the person on the other end of the phone hesitate right before he was about to say something, then he returned to his normal state. “It’s nothing, Young Lady Ye. I will handle these matters well.”

“Okay.” Hanging up the call, Han Muzi stared at the phone in a daze. In truth, she knew what he wanted to ask about when he hesitated to speak. At that moment, her words were also on the tip of her tongue, and she had nearly let it slip. In the end, she held it in.

It was better not to inform him about Yan’s resignation. The look she had the other day indicated that she was not in the best state of mind. If Han Muzi added another burden on her shoulders at this point, it would simply make her feel worse. What she needed, was an environment for her to slowly recover from her emotional wounds. Therefore, since the day Yan resigned, Han Muzi decided not to disturb her anymore. After all, she was Han Qing’s younger sister. If Yan saw Han Muzi, wouldn’t it bring back her memories of Han Qing? Hence, Han Muzi decided not to hang around Yan for the time being.

After ending the call, Xiao Su stared at his phone for a long time. Finally, he heaved a deep sigh, put away his phone, and went back to work.

Soon, the Ye Family manor was cleaned and tidied up by the people hired by Xiao Su. Although the furniture had been valuable, it had been left vacant for many years. After such a long period of neglect and lack of maintenance, everything looked old and broken down.

If it wasn’t for Han Muzi’s instructions to leave everything within the manor as it was without replacing anything, Xiao Su might have replaced some of the furniture in the manor. However, after listening to her explanation, he understood her intentions. Therefore, he instructed the servants to clean and tidy up without making any changes to the place. In just two days, the Ye Family manor was cleaned up.

Xiao Su reported it to Han Muzi directly. Without letting Ye Moxuan know, they took a trip there. Although it had been a long time since she went there, standing in the Ye Family manor and looking at every detail of the place, memories from the past seemed to appear before her eyes. One by one, the scenes flashed by.

When she first married into the family, she had suffered plenty of grievances. At that time, Ye Moxuan had a sharp tongue, and he had never been outwardly kind to her. In the beginning, he had bullied her, yet he never allowed outsiders to insult her.

In that situation where she had no one to help her, Ye Moxuan was her single ray of sunlight in an endlessly harsh winter. That was probably the reason why… she had fallen so deeply in love with him. Han Muzi smiled faintly at the thought. She did not stay for long; after approximately 10 minutes there, she left with Xiao Su.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1012

“Please get in the car, Young Lady Ye.” Xiao Su thoughtfully opened the car door for Han Muzi. Just as she was about to enter the car, a figure suddenly rushed toward her. It happened so quickly, and before she could react, Xiao Su’s figure swiftly shielded her from the front. He grabbed the figure who was rushing over like a madman and pushed it away. The attack came out of nowhere and shocked Han Muzi greatly.

“Hurry and get in the car, Young Lady Ye!”

She was still in shock. Although she was worried, considering her current state, she hastily got into the car. She was afraid that if the situation became dangerous, it would harm the baby. If she wasn’t pregnant, a few scratches wouldn’t matter, but it was different now. After getting in the car, she turned back to look out the window. Xiao Su was commanding the security guards by the entrance to capture the person.

The person being held down was a woman with unknown origins that was dressed in tattered clothes. Her hair was matted and disheveled; she looked extremely dirty and unkempt. Upon closer inspection, Han Muzi suddenly realized that the woman seemed rather familiar. Where have I seen her before?

At this moment, the person rushing toward Han Muzi began screaming in her direction, “Qi! Shen Qi! Come out here! Come out!” The screaming voice sounded odd, but also strangely familiar. The dirty and unkempt figure before her seemed to overlap with a figure from her memories. Startled, she quickly recognized who the person in front of her was.

Hastily rolling down the car window, Han Muzi shouted out of the car, “Xiao Su!”

He turned around, perplexed. Seeing her sticking her head out of the window, he hurried over to protect her as he anxiously urged, “Please close the window immediately, Young Lady Ye! This is too dangerous!”

“Wait.” She stopped him. “I think I know that person.”

“What? You know that person?”

He looked back at the person quizzically. It was a dirty, unkempt, and dangerous person; why would Young Lady Ye know that person? Wait, that’s not right… The name that person is calling out; isn’t it ‘Shen Qi’? Isn’t that… Young Lady Ye’s previous name?

“She’s calling out your previous name, Young Lady Ye. Don’t tell me it’s somebody you knew in the past?”

Nodding, she lifted her head and looked at him. “You know her too.” At that time, she remembered Xiao Su had stood up for her once. However, it had been so long ago that she couldn’t quite remember when exactly that incident had occurred.

Hearing that he knew her too, he couldn’t help feeling curious. Studying the figure closely, he finally recognized who it was. “It’s her?”

Is he shocked by it too? When Han Muzi realized who it was, she had been just as shocked as Xiao Su was. It wasn’t that long since they last met; in fact, it was only recently that the person had been flaunting and boasting in front of her. How did she fall into this state? Knitting her brows together, she pondered over it. After a moment, she said, “Xiao Su, ask those men to let her go. At least let her stand up.”

Discerning her intentions, he asked the security guards to help the person up. The moment that person stood up, she struggled and tried to rush toward Han Muzi again. “Qi! Is that you, Qi?”

Han Muzi kept silent.

“You finally came back! Qi… My best friend.”

Hearing those words, her knitted eyebrows furrowed even deeper than before. Why does listening to these words give me a strange feeling? Why is she calling me ‘Qi’? And calling me her best friend, too? Didn’t the relationship between us end five years ago? Furthermore, she sent a dead rabbit to my neighborhood and even went so far as to send somebody to harm me.

That was right; this person was somebody they have not met in a long time—Meng Xueyou.

Noticing that something was wrong with the person, Xiao Su came over and warned Han Muzi, “I think there’s something mentally wrong with her, Young Lady Ye. It’s best to be careful.”

Glancing over at the person, Han Muzi realized that her eyes were glassy and she definitely looked like something was wrong with her. “Is it a mental breakdown?”

“It’s best if you don’t get out of the car, Young Lady Ye. Let’s observe a little more. Besides, this person has already done many unforgivable things toward you five years ago. For her to appear so suddenly at the manor today, I fear things may not be as simple as they seem. Why don’t you go back, and leave this matter to me, Young Lady Ye?”

Mulling over it, she felt like there was nothing she could do even if she stayed behind, so she nodded. “Alright, I’ll leave this matter in your hands. Call me if there is anything else; I’m going back to the company.”

Afterward, the driver sent Han Muzi back to her company. Returning to her office, she sat down and poured herself a glass of water. Then, she brooded over the person she just met. Meng Xueyou… How did she end up like that? What happened in this short period? She seemed to have had a mental breakdown of some sort. Be that as it may, for her to appear at the manor suddenly is worth serious consideration.

Thinking back on all the things Meng Xueyou had done to her, and all the pain she had caused, Han Muzi began to feel that her presence there might not be a simple matter after all. Still mulling over it, she walked over to her desk. Before she even had the time to drink her water, she picked up her phone and called Xiao Su.

“Young Lady Ye?”

“Xiao Su.” She then told him everything she was thinking about. “I want you to help me investigate why Meng Xueyou appeared there so suddenly. Was it a coincidence, or was it intentional?”

“Don’t worry, Young Lady Ye. The event seemed a bit strange to me too, so even if you had not told me to, I would have thoroughly investigated it for the sake of your safety.”

“Good.” Ending the call, she gripped her phone tightly. She spared Meng Xueyou before purely out of her past affection for her; she was unable to completely crush somebody who had once been as close as a sister to her. However, this time around, if Meng Xueyou pulled another dirty trick against her, then… she would not tolerate it again. After making her decision, her gaze became firm.

Xiao Su was very efficient. When Han Muzi finished taking her afternoon break, she heard from Leng Yueyue that he was here looking for her. Thus, she went to the lounge to meet him personally. “How is it?”

“I’ve finished investigating the matter, Young Lady Ye. It seems like Meng Xueyou’s appearance at the Ye Family’s manor was not a recent occurrence. She has been wandering about the place for quite a long while, and she goes there every day. Apparently, this situation has been going on for approximately a month.”

A month? At that time, we were still out of the country. She frowned at the thought. “What has she been doing at the entrance of the Ye Family manor?”

“We don’t know her real intentions, but she has been searching and calling out for you, Young Lady Ye. According to passersby, she goes there every day and shouts out the same name. Moreover, she seems to be spouting something like ‘I’m sorry’ and whatnot.”

Han Muzi puzzled over it in silence, then she frowned and said, “Why does it feel like something isn’t quite right?”

Meng Xueyou is looking for me, calling out my name, and apologizing to me?

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1013

Perhaps it was due to everything Meng Xueyou had done to her before, but the impression Han Muzi had of Meng Xueyou was deeply ingrained; she could not help but feel that this incident was not as simple as it seemed.

“Young Lady Ye, to be honest, we investigated something else as well.”

“What is it?”

Xiao Su kept quiet for a few moments. It was hard for him to speak about it. Alas, he simply decided to pass the documents he prepared over to Han Muzi. “Please take a look at this, Young Lady Ye.”

Accepting the documents from him, she lowered her head and perused them seriously. It turned out that after Han Muzi left to go overseas, Meng Xueyou’s father took out another huge loan with high interest rates. The debt collectors later found the restaurant Meng Xueyou was working at and threatened her—they wanted her to pay off the debt as the daughter.

These situations occurred time and time again. So, she had been hooking up with the general manager of the restaurant, as well as sleeping with various old men, in hopes of cajoling them into paying off her debts for her. In the beginning, it was 10,000, then 100,000, then 200,000.

Later, it snowballed to 1,000,000. Meng Xueyou, who was merely their sexual companion, had to beg and please them with everything she had to get them to help pay off her debts. Be that as it may, they were not rich either and soon left her, thinking that she was not worth it. As the amount and the frequency of her debts gradually increased, these people realized that Meng Xueyou was a bottomless pit. Thus, they became unwilling to help pay off her debts any longer.

Without the money to pay off her debts, she had to beg the debt collectors to slow down and give her more time. Knowing that she relied on her sugar daddies, the debt collectors agreed to give her more time. After all, what they wanted was their money back, not her life. However, after the agreed time had passed, the debt collectors, who had yet to receive their money, became more and more impatient. At that point, she had a falling out with them, and… provoked their anger. In retaliation, they took many nude pictures of her and threatened to expose the pictures online to ruin her reputation if she did not pay up.

Unable to find someone to help her, she decided to ask Han Qing for help. Nevertheless, she was unable to meet with Han Qing as she was stopped from meeting him every time. Then, without paying off the debts, her father ran away and disappeared without a trace. Thus, Meng Xueyou decided to escape too. Unfortunately, she was discovered at the train station and her attempt at escaping angered the debt collectors. In the end, they released her pictures online, and she was roughed up by a large group of men. She only managed to survive because she was sent to the hospital. However, following that incident, she began to show signs of mental disorder.

“That’s what happened.”

Gripping the documents, Han Muzi’s fingertips trembled slightly, and the color of her lips gradually turned white.

Looking at her, Xiao Su had the feeling that something was wrong, and he hurriedly said, “Now that you know the entire story, you can leave it to me, Young Lady Ye. Don’t worry; I will handle it perfectly.” Hesitating slightly after he finished speaking, he took the documents out of her hands.

Saying nothing, Han Muzi looked at her white fingertips, then lifted her head to look at him. “How do you plan to handle it?”

“Huh?” he uttered in surprise. For Young Lady Ye to ask him this question, did she still feel a sliver of pity for Meng Xueyou?

Just as he was wondering whether he should ask Han Muzi how he should handle the issue, she suddenly lowered her eyes and muttered softly, “Forget it. Do as you see fit. Don’t let him know about this.” After all, Ye Moxuan no longer had his memories of the past.

Gathering the documents, he nodded. “Understood, Young Lady Ye.”

After Xiao Su left, she stared forward in a daze. It was probably due to a sense of nostalgia; when she saw what Meng Xueyou went through, she… realized that, ridiculous though it was, she pitied Meng Xueyou and even wanted to extend a helping hand to her. However, just as quickly, she recalled everything Meng Xueyou had done to hurt her in the past. Thus, she decided to quash her thoughts of extending a helping hand to Meng Xueyou.

Taking in a deep breath, Han Muzi looked out the window and silently told herself, I’m not a saint. I can’t forgive her, much less help her out, after what she has done to me.

Everything Meng Xueyou faced right now was due to the choices she made herself. If she had not helped her father pay off the 10,000 or 100,000 at the start, then she would not have accumulated more and more debts. The more she gave, the more he took. For her to fall into her current wretched state was completely brought upon by herself.

On the other hand, Han Muzi had her identity snatched away by Meng Xueyou, who also plotted to break her and Ye Moxuan apart. These incidents would be remembered forever. So, she could not forgive, nor pretend to be ignorant about these incidents. It was completely fine. Although she thought that way, even after working hours ended, she was unable to cheer up. In the beginning, she was against Ye Moxuan coming to pick her up from work every day, but he was worried that if he did not come, she would stay back to work overtime at the company. Therefore, he always arrived on the dot.

Just like right now, while Han Muzi was still daydreaming in her office, Leng Yueyue’s voice came in from outside. “Did you come to pick Muzi from work, Young Master Ye?”

“Yes,” a cold voice responded. Then, steady footsteps approached.

Soon after, the office door was pushed open. By the time Ye Moxuan appeared before her, she had already prepared her smile, got up, and picked up her bag. “Let’s go.”

As she walked by him, he frowned slightly. In the next moment, his hand shot out and caught her arm. She turned her head around. “What’s wrong?”

“Did something happen?” he asked.

Hearing those words made her heart skip in surprise, and she looked at him in astonishment. I have not said anything, so how can he tell? Unwilling to let him know about it, she shook her head. “Nothing happened. Why are you asking out of the blue?”

She had instructed Xiao Su not to inform Ye Moxuan about this incident. Based on Xiao Su’s temperament, he would have kept his lips sealed. So, did he realize that she was not in a good mood? She had been smiling because she wanted to hide it from him, but…

Sure enough, his frown deepened at her words and his lips moved as if he had something to say.

“I’m a bit hungry. Are we eating out, or are we going back to eat today?” she suddenly interrupted him to ask.

His gaze was deep; he seemed to think of something and calmly replied, “Where do you want to eat?”

After giving it some serious thought, she said, “Why don’t we go home? I’ll cook.”

Walking over, he put his arm around her shoulders. “You can’t. The nanny is in the house; let her do it. You’re pregnant.”

“I’m pregnant, but it’s not like I can’t move. Don’t treat me like a disabled person.” As she spoke, Han Muzi’s tone carried a touch of anger—as if she was really unhappy. Ye Moxuan lowered his head to look at her; he had immediately noticed that she was not in a good mood, but she didn’t seem to want to talk about it.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1014

It’s fine; she can handle it on her own. As his woman, it was impossible for her to not have the ability to deal with simple matters.

Although Ye Moxuan did not want Han Muzi to tire herself out, she was a stubborn and determined woman. If he openly pushed her too hard, it would only be counterproductive. Therefore, he always chose to subtly help her out if he wanted to share her burden.

Getting into the car, Han Muzi fastened her seatbelt, then fell silent. Although she came up with many excuses for herself while she was still at the office, her heart had been occupied by the affair involving Meng Xueyou all afternoon.

It didn’t matter who the tragedy had befallen. If the person involved was not Meng Xueyou, Han Muzi would have felt a great deal of pity for the girl. After all, it was not her debt—it was her father’s. Even if Meng Xueyou was the one who enabled his habits, she could find no other solution to solve her debt problems. Thus, she had no choice but to use these underhanded methods to sell herself for money. As soon as she thought that Meng Xueyou might have been toyed with by a bunch of men, an image surfaced in her mind. Then, her head started to hurt and her breathing became ragged.

The car stopped by the side of the road and a hand reached over to touch her forehead. “Are you okay?”

The hand was large and warm; it seemed to pull her back from the darkness. Han Muzi forced open her eyes and grabbed the hand tightly like a drowning man clinging to a piece of wood.

“Moxuan!” Calling out his name, she looked sideways at him.

Watching her worriedly, his black eyes overflowed with anxiety and concern.

At this moment, she didn’t know what she was thinking about; her mouth refused to obey her brain as she said, “I need to see Xiao Su.”

Narrowing his eyes slightly, he shifted his hand and caressed her face. “Alright.” He had guessed that something had happened, but she was not willing to talk about it, so he did not pry. Now that she had spoken up, he simply agreed to it.

The car turned around, and Ye Moxuan called Xiao Su to ask for his location.

Xiao Su had been dealing with the affair involving Meng Xueyou. As Han Muzi had specifically mentioned not to inform Ye Moxuan about it, he was being extra cautious. However, Ye Moxuan had suddenly called him up, asking where he was. The moment he heard this, he knew something was wrong. Nonetheless, Xiao Su did not dare to openly lie in front of Ye Moxuan, so he spoke falteringly, “Y-Young Master Ye, I’m dealing with some personal affairs.”

“Personal affairs?” Ye Moxuan arched his brow and sneered coldly, “What is this personal affair that is making you hesitate so much?”

“Uh, Young Master Ye, I’m afraid…” Xiao Su began.

“Tell me where you are, immediately.”

“Young Master Ye.” Xiao Su sounded troubled.

“Since when… did you start having secrets that I can’t know about, Xiao Su?” Ye Moxuan’s voice sounded neutral, but it made the hair on Xiao Su’s body stand as a chill went down his back. Having worked with Ye Moxuan for such a long time, he feared this calm and dignified expression the most. When some people were angry, their anger showed. However, Young Master Ye was the type that looked like he was not angry but gave off a terribly scary and oppressive feeling.

Han Muzi, who was next to Ye Moxuan, could not take it anymore and threw an annoyed look at him. “I told him not to let you know. Since he promised me, he is just trying to keep his word.” Finishing her explanation, she raised her voice slightly. “Xiao Su, it’s me. Where are you right now? Can you give us a location? We’ll head there immediately.”

“Young Lady Ye?” Hearing her voice, Xiao Su let out a breath of relief, and he stopped hesitating as he spoke. Furthermore, he swiftly agreed to share his location.

Upon ending the call, Ye Moxuan was filled with complicated emotions. Isn’t Xiao Su… my assistant? Why does he no longer listen to me?

“Are you unhappy about it?” As he was contemplating it, Han Muzi questioned suddenly.

Coming back to his senses, he spoke in a low voice, “No, what is there to be unhappy about? Xiao Su is my assistant, obeying you is only natural.”

Han Muzi remained quiet. Am I wrong? It feels like something is amiss. However, at the end of the day, Xiao Su was still Ye Moxuan’s assistant, so she spoke up in his defense, “I told him to keep this matter a secret. Although he is your assistant, he is someone who keeps his word. So, if you are going to blame him, then blame me instead.”

“What nonsense are you saying?” Ye Moxuan glanced at her irritably. “It’s not like he was obeying anyone else. Why would I mind if he was following your instructions?”

The place they were led to turned out to be a mental hospital. Looking at the words ‘mental hospital’, she felt a mix of complicated emotions. In the past, she used to wonder whether Meng Xueyou suffered from any mental disorders, but now… it turned out exactly as she predicted. She had suffered a mental breakdown under those circumstances.

“Young Master Ye, Young Lady Ye.” Xiao Su came out to greet them. Initially, he had not thought of bringing them to a mental hospital. Although Meng Xueyou was an insane lunatic that had brought harm to Young Lady Ye before, he had intended to send her someplace else. He only planned to hire some people to watch over her and confirm that she was not pretending to be insane. It was enough to know that she had no weird intentions toward Young Lady Ye.

However, after his brief conversation with Young Lady Ye in the afternoon, he changed his mind. Young Lady Ye was a kind person; even if the other party was her enemy, she had suffered so badly after all. He had no intention of helping that person out, but sending her to a mental hospital should be kind enough as it was.

“Xiao Su, how is she?”

“She’s inside, Young Lady Ye. She was throwing a fit just now, and the doctors had no choice but to give her a tranquilizing shot. Right now, she’s fallen asleep.”

Han Muzi chewed on her bottom lip. “Fallen asleep? Then, can we take a look inside?”

Xiao Su hesitated slightly at her words. He went to discuss with the people inside, then came back to say, “You can have a look, but you have to look in from the outside, lest she wakes up suddenly and attacks you, Young Lady Ye.”

“Alright, thank you.”

Han Muzi hurried inside, and Ye Moxuan followed after her, worried about letting her go alone. As he passed by Xiao Su, he casually praised him. “Good job.”

The voice seemed to float into his ears—it was cool but as sharp as a blade. Xiao Su subconsciously swallowed nervously. Did Young Master Ye just praise me? B-But it doesn’t sound like he was praising me. Don’t tell me, he was being sarcastic? Have I already offended Young Master Ye greatly?

Xiao Su was filled with so many conflicting emotions, but he mustered up his courage and followed after them.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1015

Standing outside the room, Han Muzi looked at the person lying inside through the glass. It was a different Meng Xueyou than the one she saw before. She had changed into the psychiatric patient uniform, and her body had been cleaned. Her pale skin could once again be seen. But there were a lot of scars on her pale skin. Scratch marks, burn scars, and all other kinds of wounds… Even though scabs had already been formed, these injuries were all over the place—on her neck, her wrist, and even her face. It was a truly terrifying sight.

Han Muzi felt that she could hardly breathe. At this moment, a gentle hand came and covered her eyes. “If you’re scared, stop looking.” It was Ye Moxuan, who was standing behind her and speaking gently.

Han Muzi was silent for a moment before pulling Ye Moxuan’s hands down and shaking her head gently. “I’m fine; I’m just a little shocked by how badly she’s injured.”

Perhaps Ye Moxuan was able to read between the lines, for he frowned slightly. “Are you not close with her?”

Han Muzi did not respond. Instead, she let out a gentle smile as her gaze was still on Meng Xueyou.

At this point, Meng Xueyou looked peaceful as she was unconscious. This reminded Han Muzi of the past when the two were still best friends. They would have sleepovers where they would lie next to each other. Han Muzi even remembered that she would always wake up earlier than Meng Xueyou. Meng Xueyou was cranky and would always kick her blanket away when asleep. As a result, every morning when Han Muzi got up, she would tuck her back into her blanket. The way she used to look when she was asleep was exactly how she looked right now. Everything was just like before.

The memories they had were always gloomy and bitter, and right now they were all coming back to Han Muzi, haunting and overwhelming her. As she continued to be deep in her thoughts, her chest started aching, and her eyes were somewhat teary.

“We used to be close. I’ve saved her life before, so she has been relying on me a lot thereafter, always telling me how indebted she is to me and how she would treat me well for the rest of my life. She even stood out and lent me a helping hand whenever I was in need. I thought… we would be best friends forever. At one point, we even talked about how whoever got married first would have the other be her bridesmaid. But who knew…” It was all a show.

She did not know if Meng Xueyou treated her well in the past because she felt indebted to her and ended up being her best friend, or because she found out her secret and wanted to get close to her to get more benefits. No matter what the reason was, all the moments they spent together were still burning in her chest like wildfire.

“You don’t remember her anymore, do you?” All of a sudden, Han Muzi turned around and looked at Ye Moxuan. “You knew her before. Maybe if you take a good look at her face, you might regain some memory.”

Ye Moxuan was not planning on finding out how the woman lying inside looked like until he heard what Han Muzi said. He then turned over and looked toward Meng Xueyou. In the beginning, he did not feel anything particular about her appearance. He also had no recollection of her. But after a while, a few scenes came up in his head.

Han Muzi was there in those scenes, but… they were not good scenes. The woman in the scene had a pair of pink earrings, and at the same time, he also took out a similar pair of earrings. When Han Muzi saw that, she was agitated and proceeded to smash the pair of earrings that he took out. There was never a time before like right now where the scene was crystal clear. But this time, it was about how he hurt Han Muzi, and this gave him a jolt of pain. However, before he could experience this, he began to develop an immense headache.

“Did you recall something?” Han Muzi asked.

Ye Moxuan came back to his senses and rested his gaze on Han Muzi once again. She was looking at him with utter worry and concern. Gradually, her look overlapped with her painful look in the scene that he recalled earlier. He did not respond; instead, he kept staring at Han Muzi with his dark and deep eyes which somewhat frightened her.

Han Muzi did not consider much when she asked Ye Moxuan to take a look at Meng Xueyou. Since he was already here, and Meng Xueyou used to play a substantial part in both of their lives, letting him have a look at her might help him. She did not foresee such a big reaction from him.

At this juncture, Han Muzi nervously grabbed him by his hand. “Are you okay? Did you recall something?”

Standing next to them, Xiao Su sensed that something was not right. So, he went up and helped Han Muzi to steady Ye Moxuan. “Young Master Ye, are you okay? Should we head outside first?”

Han Muzi nodded in agreement. “Sure. Please do.”

The moment she was about to take a step forward, Ye Moxuan locked her arms. “I’m fine.”

“Fine?” Han Muzi did not stop being worried because Ye Moxuan did not look fine at all. She looked him in the eye. “Did you recall something?” How can Meng Xueyou have such a big impact? Is it because of all the horrible things that she did before?

For reasons unbeknownst to her, Han Muzi felt bitter about it. As much as she knew that Ye Moxuan only liked her, it still bothered her that Ye Moxuan had such a big reaction after seeing Meng Xueyou. She knew well where this bitter feeling came from. But at this moment, she did not have the energy to care about it.

“Some of it,” Ye Moxuan responded in a deep voice. His grip became stronger as he continued to frown, and the look in his eyes seemed to suggest that he was in pain. This was evident from the look on his face and the sweat on his forehead. Somehow, he did not have any other over-reactions and was still able to tell her that he had recalled something. Perhaps… he did indeed recall something.

“Did you… recall some bad memories?” Han Muzi asked.

Ye Moxuan kept quiet for a moment before nodding his head. All of sudden, Han Muzi could not utter a word. She took a deep breath, looked around, and found a bench not too far away from them. Then, she turned around and commented, “Let’s go and have a seat over there.”

Ye Moxuan considered for a brief moment and nodded. “Okay.”

After Ye Moxuan recalled those moments, his headache gradually wore off. He quietly walked with Han Muzi. After they were seated, a medical team member at the psychiatric hospital saw them and asked curiously, “Are you guys okay? Is there anything I can help with?”

Xiao Su quickly responded, “That’s fine. Thank you.” He broke into a cold sweat as he finished speaking. We’re all perfectly normal. Why would we need help from the medical team members at a psychiatric hospital?

After they sat down, Han Muzi took out a napkin from her bag and wiped off the thin layer of sweat from Ye Moxuan’s forehead and his nose. At this moment, he grabbed her by her hand. All of a sudden, he implored, “Don’t be mad.”

Han Muzi was stunned for a moment. “Huh?”

Ye Moxuan moved his lips for a while before he continued, “I have nothing to do with her.”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1016

At this point, Han Muzi became even more confused. But she figured she could probably work it out if she reflected on what Ye Moxuan did earlier and what he just said.

If his memory was triggered after seeing Meng Xueyou, what he recalled could just be fragments of memory related to her—it was just bits and pieces of it as opposed to the full picture. Is that why he told her that he had nothing to do with Meng Xueyou?

To prove that her assumption was right, Han Muzi inquired with a smiley face, “Are you referring to the person lying in there?”

Ye Moxuan had a serious look on his face with his thin lips pursed tightly. His gaze never left Han Muzi’s face—as if he was afraid of missing her reaction. He did not answer nor deny it. Han Muzi knew that she was right. “If you recalled something because of her, then… it should be some memories of her.”

“Not her.”

Han Muzi was surprised to hear that. “Who then?”

“I saw the pair of pink earrings.”

Han Muzi’s eyes widened and her heart began to pound as she heard what he just said. The pink earrings. He actually… recalled that matter.

At that time, she had fought with Ye Moxuan over this pair of pink earrings. It was also because of the same reason that her relationship with Meng Xueyou faltered. Even after that, when Ye Moxuan picked another pair of pink earrings for her, she immediately threw them away. Though so many years had gone by, she was still feeling bitter as she thought about it.

Perhaps Ye Moxuan had noticed that she did not look right and he decided to hold her arms tighter. That hurt Han Muzi a little and brought her back to her senses. She quickly hid away the bitterness. “These things happened back in the days. What you saw was… only one-sided; it was not the entirety of the incident. So, you don’t have to explain anything to me. I understand.”

Hearing what the two were talking about reminded Xiao Su of that incident, and he could not help but interrupt, “Young Lady Ye, that incident makes me mad. Those earrings were purchased by Young Master Ye as a gift for you, but Meng Xueyou somehow managed to steal them from him and even wore them to see you!”

Han Muzi remained silent. She lifted her head and looked at Xiao Su with confusion. Back then, she always reckoned that it was because Ye Moxuan believed what Meng Xueyou said so he… She always chose to trust Ye Moxuan, so she had never second-guessed anything. But deep within Han Muzi, she knew that this was a wound in her heart.

At this juncture, Han Muzi closed her eyes slightly to calm herself down before saying gradually, “If she never had the opportunity to be close, how could she have the opportunity to steal them?

Upon hearing what Han Muzi said, Ye Moxuan’s frown deepened while he held her hands tightly. “Muzi!”

“Young Lady Ye…”

“Don’t worry; I’m talking about what happened in the past. No matter what, it’s in the past.” Han Muzi put on a bland smile; she looked like she could not be bothered by it.

But Ye Moxuan interpreted it differently as he saw the look on her face. He lost his memories and was now able to regain a small part of it, though it was not the best part. Furthermore, what Xiao Su just said was something Ye Moxuan had never heard before. After all, what he saw was nothing like what Xiao Su had just described.

As Ye Moxuan thought about this, he pursed his thin lips and remained silent. On the other hand, Xiao Su was observing the look on Young Master Ye’s face and decided to help him out. “Young Lady Ye—”

Han Muzi lifted her head and looked at Xiao Su. “Did the doctor say anything about her condition?”

Xiao Su paused for a moment. He took a glance at the serious look on Young Master Ye’s face and felt helpless. In the end, his only option was to respond to Han Muzi’s question. “The doctor said she’s having some serious mental issues and would need to spend a long time at the hospital.”

Is she going to be hospitalized? Han Muzi nodded. “Okay.”

“Young Lady Ye, do you plan on letting her stay here?”

“Yes.” Looking at how she had turned out, Han Muzi’s hatred toward her had long dissipated. She was treating her like someone she pitied; she just happened to be the one lending her a helping hand.

“I understand, Young Lady Ye. I’ll take care of it. It’s getting late; should you and Young Master Ye head back first?”

“Sure.” Han Muzi immediately stood up and prepared to leave. After several steps, she turned around and pulled Ye Moxuan by his sleeves. “Why aren’t you moving?”

Ye Moxuan was surprised to hear that as he thought she was mad at him and would leave without him. He did not expect her to turn over and ask him to tag along. Then, he locked her fair and lean hand without hesitation and held onto it tightly just as she was about to take her hand back.

Han Muzi was rendered speechless. She tried to struggle but not only did that not help, Ye Moxuan appeared to hold on even tighter. Annoyed, Han Muzi commented, “Come on, let’s go home for some food.”

After sending the two off, Xiao Su secretly let out a sigh of relief. He reckoned that Young Master Ye had something to hide, as he never recalled anything substantial after several incidents of being triggered when seeing different people. But this time, when he met Meng Xueyou, he was able to recall some bad things that happened in the past.

Xiao Su could feel the frustration in this even though he was not Han Muzi. But he did not think that Ye Moxuan was triggered because Meng Xueyou was an important person; there had to be some other reasons. Or, did he particularly abhor this person? Has he been triggered too much previously that as long as he sees a familiar person, he would slowly recall things? Xiao Su became deeply absorbed in his thoughts. Should I speak with Young Lady Ye to explain this again? Otherwise, she would start getting mad at Young Master Ye before he can recall more things. As for Young Master Ye, I’ve no idea what I should say to him. That’s gonna be a big problem!

After making up his mind, Xiao Su decided to wait till the next opportunity to explain this incident to Han Muzi.

That evening, after a busy day, Xiao Su had just finished his shower and was about to lie down in his bed. At this moment, he received a call from Ye Moxuan.

“Young Master Ye?” Xiao Su was surprised because since Ye Moxuan got back from abroad, he had rarely called him in the middle of the night, as everything related to work would have been taken care of during the day. Now that Ye Moxuan was calling him, Xiao Su was confused.

Ye Moxuan’s low voice came from the other end of the phone. “Do you know much about the past between Muzi and me?”

Xiao Su’s heart skipped a beat as he heard this. So he’s calling me to ask about that. “Not a hundred percent, but a fair amount.” After all, Ye Moxuan had always trusted him and would never hide anything from him. That was why Xiao Su knew a lot of things.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1017

After all, Ye Moxuan had always trusted him and would never hide anything from him. That was why Xiao Su knew a lot of things.

“Alright. Please compile all the information into a document.”

W-What? He wants me to compile all the incidents that happened in the past into a document? When Xiao Su heard these words, he almost could not believe himself. He was completely shocked. If I were to do this, does that mean I’ve to pen down everything?

“This won’t work, Young Master Ye!” Xiao Su rejected Ye Moxuan’s instruction right away. “I’m not good with words—I don’t think I can do this.” These incidents were different from the matters that he had looked into in the past where others would report to him after they had done their research.

“Did I ask you to compile it yourself?” Ye Moxuan replied coldly, “Can’t you find someone to do it?”

Xiao Su responded, “Who can I find?”

“Hmm.” Ye Moxuan snickered. “What do you think?”

Xiao Su immediately became silent. Fine. I don’t need him to tell me who to find. No matter what, I have to come up with the compilation. He felt he was put on the spot as those incidents were the love-life saga of Ye Moxuan and Han Muzi. But as a man, he found it hard to break that to Ye Moxuan.

“Young Master Ye, perhaps… we could discuss this a little more? This matter…”

While Xiao Su was trying to save himself, he suddenly heard a gentle female voice from Ye Moxuan’s end of the phone, “Why aren’t you sleeping? What are you doing?”

That’s Young Lady Ye! Young Lady Ye, help! This was what Xiao Su was screaming within.

Ye Moxuan was leaning on the pillar in the patio when he was making the phone call. After he heard Han Muzi’s voice coming from behind, he turned around, looked at her, and began to frown. Then, he immediately hung up the phone and walked toward Han Muzi. “Why did you come out here? And why are you wearing so little?” As he finished, he proceeded to take off the jacket that he was wearing and wrapped it around Han Muzi’s petite body.

Han Muzi was only wearing pajamas. Even though it was made for winter, she was standing outside and those pajamas could not withstand the cold. Furthermore, they were at the beach, and she was pregnant. The thought of this made Ye Moxuan frown. He said coldly, “Go inside.”

Han Muzi popped up her head from his jacket, her feet remaining still. “Who were you talking to?”

Ye Moxuan lowered his head and looked at her, feeling slightly tensed.

Under the dimly lit lights, her moist eyes looked lively and refreshingly captivating. She looked at him; her eyes were so pure and naïve as if she could immediately see through him, or not at all.

These eyes… His emotions were rising as he subconsciously looked away, and his gaze fell on her fair little earlobe. His voice began to sound deeper. “Someone from the office.” He then continued in a hoarse voice, “It’s something work-related.”

“Work-related?” Han Muzi blinked. “After 11pm? Young Master Ye, do the employees in your company love their job so much that they’re still working at this hour? And they’re even calling their president at this hour? That person has to be at least a mid-level executive, right?”

“You’re right.” Ye Moxuan let out a bland laugh. “You’re partially to be thanked for their enthusiasm toward their job.”

“Me?”

Ye Moxuan was still staring at her petite earlobe, feeling slightly aroused. “Don’t you remember?” He lowered her voice and leaned close to her ear. “All the shares of the company are under your name, Mrs. Ye.”

This startled Han Muzi. If Ye Moxuan never brought that up, she would have completely forgotten about that. At the time when he gave her the contract, she knew that it was not a good idea after reviewing it. In the end, she turned out to be right. It’s so upsetting!

“You—gasp!” Just as Han Muzi was about to tell him off, he quickly held her earlobe in his mouth. She became frightened and subconsciously pushed him away.

She forgot about the fact that she was in Ye Moxuan’s arms, so her efforts to push him away were to no avail. On the flip side, Ye Moxuan held her even tighter with unsatisfied desire while still gently biting her earlobe.

“What are you doing? Let me go…” Han Muzi was annoyed. “I have something serious to ask you.”

He had finally managed to touch her after his long abstention, so he would not let this opportunity slide. He was gasping heavily.

“This is something serious.”

Nothing can be any more serious.

“Ye Moxuan!”

“Be good. Save some of that energy for later.”

As Han Muzi was about to yell at him, he had already carried her in his arms and headed to the bedroom. The bedroom was a lot warmer than the outside. After Han Muzi was placed on the big soft bed, he proceeded to lie on top of her—as if he was afraid she would run away. His arms were on both of her sides, trapping her inside the arch formed by his arms.

“Stop messing around! I have something important to ask you!”

Ye Moxuan’s eyes looked slightly red as his breathing became unstable. “What about? If it’s something about the past, I don’t remember anything anymore, so there’s no need to ask about that.”

Han Muzi was rendered speechless. He’s right. I’m about to hold him accountable for the things that he did in the past, but those were the things that he did before he lost his memory. Even if I ask him now, he wouldn’t be able to give me an explanation. The thought of this immediately left Han Muzi depressed. What was more depressing was that the situation taking place in front of her eyes was still going on.

His recent abstention had caused him to hungrily feed on her neck; she only abruptly realized this when she felt the numbness on her neck.

“No!” If he left any love bites, people at work would notice when she went to work tomorrow.

But Ye Moxuan did not listen. Han Muzi put out her hand and covered her neck from his kissing. Surprisingly, this did not upset him. He turned from her neck to her arm; his warm thin lips slowly moved up her arm and landed on her shoulder. He ripped her pajamas and gave her a hard kiss on her fair shoulder.

Han Muzi let out a ‘hmph’. She had managed to save her neck, but not her shoulder. She then put out her other hand to cover her shoulder.

Ye Moxuan looked upon her eerily and let out a deep laugh before moving his enormous hand to the buttons on her pajamas.

Han Muzi yelled, “Stop!” I’m dying! Why did he decide to unleash the beast in him tonight?

“Okay.” Ye Moxuan stopped, but did not give up. He lurched forward and used his teeth to nibble on the buttons of her pajamas. He had already unbuttoned half of the buttons on his pajamas, displaying his muscular and ripped chest. Not to mention his act of using his teeth to unbutton her pajamas.

Han Muzi swallowed her spittle and closed her eyes. She was not willing to admit it but… he looked extremely hot; so much so that she seemed to be a little… aroused.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1018

To feel aroused now… Han Muzi looked distracted; alarm bells were ringing in her head, warning her that this situation could not go on. However, her body was not resisting. Under the urging of Ye Moxuan’s sexy appearance, her hands slowly wrapped around his neck as she began to respond passionately; she was lost in a delirious frenzy.

Before, Ye Moxuan had struggled to make a move on her as she was not responsive and had resisted his advances per usual. However, now that she began responding to his advances, he realized how bad the situation had become. Initially, he had only intended to playfully tease her. Since he couldn’t have the main course, a little appetizer wouldn’t hurt, right? But, now…

Lost in a delirious state, she suddenly felt the person pressing his body down on her roll over then sat on the edge of the bed. She was pregnant, so he could only hold her tenderly in the palms of his hands, for fear of hurting her. After being teased so badly, she had made her decision, but he promptly rolled over and moved away. Why?

“What’s wrong?” Staring at his back, she moodily asked.

Turning his head to glance at her, the color of his eyes was dark—it was like there was a ball of fire dancing wildly. Pursing his lips in mild annoyance, he hoarsely muttered, “Aren’t you pregnant?”

Not understanding what he meant by that, she nodded. “Yeah.”

There was a strong sense of helplessness and insatiable desire in his eyes; when he leaned over again, she thought he was going to continue. As she prepared to reach out her hands to hug him, his thin lips simply touched against her forehead lightly, and he left again.

She stared after him speechlessly. Is it over just like that? Frowning, she watched as he tucked her into her blanket. His voice was gentle but restrained as he said, “Go to sleep.”

What… is wrong with this guy? If he isn’t going to continue, then why did he suddenly decide to tease me? Not only is he refusing to take responsibility after turning me on, but he also left me in this d*mn state! As the thought crossed her mind, she couldn’t control her irritation and pushed her foot out of the blanket to kick him. Then, she quickly pulled the blanket back into place and rolled over, turning her back to him. Fine, if you don’t want to, then so be it—the one who is going to be uncomfortable isn’t me anyway. If he just wanted to tease me, then refuse to continue after turning me on, he can wallow in his sexual frustration.

After turning her back toward him, she didn’t care to see how he reacted. It’s too late for him to start regretting anyway. He sat on the edge of the bed for a while, then she suddenly felt the side of the bed bounce back as he got up from the bed. Turning around to steal a glance, she realized he had escaped out to the balcony.

“Tsk. Go out to the balcony then; serves you right if you freeze to death.”

Deciding to ignore him, Han Muzi adjusted her body, got into the most comfortable position, and prepared to sleep. Now that she was pregnant, she was constantly lethargic and fell asleep quickly. In the beginning, she was looking at the figure of his back, but as she continued looking, her eyelids became heavier and heavier. Then, unable to keep her eyes open, she closed her eyes. From that moment on, she couldn’t remember what happened after that.

On the other hand, after hearing Han Muzi’s voice, Xiao Su had wanted to plead for her to help him, but for some reason, the call was suddenly ended from Ye Moxuan’s side. Pondering over it, Xiao Su didn’t dare to call back again. So, he sat by the edge of the bed and stared at his phone in frustration. To assign this kind of task to him, he might as well have asked him to plunge into a sea of flames. At least then, Xiao Su wouldn’t be as wishy-washy as he was now and be at their every beck and call.

After waiting for half the night, he didn’t receive a call from Ye Moxuan again. He began to wonder if he should just go to sleep and pretend that he had never received a call from him in the first place. Thinking about it, he decided that it was not a bad idea. Thus, he started to tidy up. The moment he turned off the lights and prepared to go to sleep, his phone vibrated. Shuddering, he glanced at the message and nearly fainted. The message was from Ye Moxuan, and only had a single line: ‘I want the documents the day after tomorrow.’

The day after tomorrow?! He was tempted to ask whether Ye Moxuan realized that it was already the middle of the night today. By the time he went to sleep and woke up the next day, he would only have a day’s worth of time left. Furthermore, he would be working during the day. Mulling over it, he decided to try to beg for more time. Therefore, he took out his phone and started typing.

Ye Moxuan sat on a chair on the balcony; his legs were folded leisurely as he leaned back with his eyes closed. His expression revealed nothing, but his deeply frowning eyebrows looked like he was restraining himself greatly. Despite the cold winter night, his forehead was beaded with cold sweat.

Beep! His phone rang and he looked down at it. Xiao Su had sent a message to him. ‘Can I delay the deadline by two more days? This task… is extremely difficult.’

Expressionlessly, Ye Moxuan typed back in reply. ‘No.’

‘Then, do you want it during the day or the night of the day after tomorrow?’

‘8 in the morning.’

Xiao Su was rendered speechless. A strong sense of disbelief and incredulity washed across his heart; he wanted to lash out and question the other party concerned. However, in the end, he placed his phone down, lay down on his bed, and mechanically covered himself with the blanket. Then, he closed his eyes peacefully. Yes, peacefully. Knowing the difficulty of this task, I might die peacefully from it. Haha…

Knowing Young Master Ye’s personality, he should not have asked. Since Young Master Ye had not specified what time he wanted it, and only mentioned he wanted it on the day after tomorrow, Xiao Su could have dragged it out until the end of the day. Now, things were for the worse—he had dug his own grave.

Since Yan resigned, she had not looked for another job. There was a reason why it had been a long time since she went home. When she accompanied Han Muzi overseas previously, she quit her job at the finance department of the Ye Group.

The head of the finance department just so happened to be her father, and he had been furious at her resignation. After all, it was a great career opportunity; if she gave it up, then another person would quickly take her place. By then, even if she regretted her choice, she would never get another chance.

Be that as it may, Yan believed that Ye Moxuan was a scumbag and refused to work in his company any longer. She even went so far as to advise her father against working for him. It made her father so angry that he cursed at her. Pointing at her nose, he threatened that if she resigned from her post, he would disown her and end their father-daughter relationship; he even said that she should never return.

At that time, Yan was young and foolishly spirited. Although she intended to persuade him nicely, in the face of her father’s stubbornness, she felt that it would be humiliating if she gave in to him. Therefore, she broke off their father-daughter relationship on the spot and claimed that she would never return. In a blink of an eye, so many years had passed; not once did her father call her, and they had no contact with each other since. Only her mother would call her up every year, asking her when she was coming home.

Back then, Yan wondered, why isn’t my father the one that called me? He has never asked me to go home; if I go back now, won’t it be humiliating?

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1019

I won’t go home. However, this time around, when Yan quit her job, her heart was hollow and empty. Although she was staying in the house Han Muzi had bought, she was the only one left in this house—Little Bean was living with his great-grandfather overseas while Han Muzi was shacking up with Ye Moxuan.

Feeling extremely lonely, she naturally started to miss home. Still, when she thought about how her father had never once given her a call in all these years, her heart overflowed with untold grievances. Thus, despite longing to go home, she stubbornly refused to go home.

Young people were always saying things they did not mean. Those hard-hearted words she said in anger all those years ago were coming back to bite her now. If only my father would give me a call right now and ask me to go home; how great that would be.

Like a loser, she indulged herself in an endless cycle of eating and sleeping. Having never experienced such loneliness before, coupled with her broken heart, she was wallowing in misery; she felt like the world had abandoned her. Nevertheless, it was unrequited love.

Sob, sob. The phrase ‘love is a pain in the butt’ wasn’t just simple hearsay. In the past, if she had not dabbled in something like love, then she wouldn’t have fallen into her current state. If only there was somebody by my side right now, Yan thought.

Rolling over, a ray of sunlight shone through the window and blinded her. Thus, she got up and closed the curtains. Now that light could not enter the room, it fell into complete darkness. That’s much better.

Walking back to the bed, she lay down again. Then, her phone rang. Yan blanked out, who could be looking for her? Was it Muzi, or Little Bean? A wave of expectation washed across her as she took out her phone and glanced at it. However, the caller ID on her phone indicated it was her mother. Mom? Why is she calling me at this time?

Filled with surprise and doubt, she picked up the phone and answered the call. “Mom?”

“Yan!” Her mother’s anxious voice sounded from the other side of the phone; it sounded like there was an emergency. Yan reached up to rub her eyes. “Mom, why are you calling me at this time? I’ve told you; I’m not going back.”

“Yan, you have to hurry back soon.” Sure enough, her mother had called to ask her to return. Yan pouted, refusing to respond.

“Yan? Are you listening to me?”

“Yeah, I’m listening…” she answered apathetically. Lying on the bed, she casually wrapped the blanket around herself.

“No matter what, you must come back. I know you’re still angry after all these years, but it has been five years! You refuse to come home every year; your father and I did not raise you to be so disagreeable.”

Listening to her mother’s nagging, she felt annoyed and tired of it, but in her lonely state, it also felt warm for some reason. In the past, she would have created a random excuse, like she was busy with work, and hung up. However, she did not want to hang up right now, so she lay on her bed and listened to her mother’s nagging.

“It’s not that I want to make you angry, Mom. You know as well as I do how things played out in the beginning. Anyhow, he was the one to break off our relationship. Now that we aren’t even related anymore, why should I go back? If I go back, won’t I just be hated?”

“Your father is getting on in his years; do you actually believe what he says? Even if he did say that, so what? As his daughter, can’t you be more understanding toward him?”

“I want to be understanding, but I can’t do it,” Yan replied.

“Fine, I won’t bring up the past. But speaking of the present, you must come back.”

Yan closed her eyes and rolled over, then gloomily muttered, “I don’t want to go back. Mom, I’ve told you before. Unless he personally calls me and asks me to go back, wouldn’t it be humiliating if I go back on my own accord?”

All these years, her father had been unable to back down on his words, and neither could she. The very thought upset her. If only her father would utter a ‘Yan, come back home’, she would probably rush back home at a drop of a hat without tiring.

The other side of the phone fell silent; her mother heaved a heavy sigh, and the tone of her voice became heavy. “Yan, even if your father wanted to call you, he can’t do it anymore.”

“What do you mean?”

“On his way home from work yesterday, he was involved in a car accident. Right now, he is lying in the hospital.”

The news crashed through Yan like a thunderstorm, leaving her completely stunned. For quite a long while, she couldn’t react. Her lips trembled, but she couldn’t get a single word out—her mind was a mess.

“Yan, before your father got into this accident, I let you be as willful as you wanted to be. However, your father is now lying in a hospital bed. If you want to act up right now, don’t blame me if I flip out on you mercilessly.”

“Which hospital?” Yan trembled as she found her voice.

The other party seemed stunned for a moment, then told her the name of the hospital. “I’ll be waiting for you at the hospital.”

After hanging up the call, Yan didn’t think too much about anything else. Grabbing her phone and her keys, she left the house without her bag or changing her clothes. She couldn’t even be bothered to care about the odd glances she was receiving from passersby as she walked onto the main road. Stopping a taxi by the side of the road, she told the taxi driver to head directly to the hospital.

Along the way, she waited anxiously, but they got caught in a traffic jam. Her mood plummeted to rock bottom, and she kept asking the driver what time they would reach and how long it would take. These questions were asked repeatedly. At first, the taxi driver had patiently and politely answered her. At last, he lost his patience when she asked again, and he snapped, “Look at the road; it’s not like I’m intentionally refusing to drive! Frankly, I don’t have any idea when we would arrive!”

Yan seemed to wither after getting snapped at. Pitifully pulling her legs toward her, she lowered her head and hugged her knees to her chest and buried her face in her knees. The taxi driver was dumbstruck. What? Don’t tell me I made her cry because my words were a little harsh?

The taxi driver became embarrassed. Making his voice calm, he said, “Young lady, it wasn’t my intention to scare you. It’s just that traffic is very slow at this time of the day. Don’t worry; we’ll definitely reach the hospital—we’ll just take longer than usual. Besides, traffic might be slow at this time of the day, but it’s not that bad. Soon, it will clear up.”

Nodding her head, she did not reply. Looking at her current state, the taxi driver said nothing more. Soon, the road cleared up and they finally reached the hospital.

As Yan got out of the car and paid the fare, she saw her mother standing at the entrance of the hospital, waiting for her.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1020

Yan’s eyes reddened, and a wave of sourness rose in her heart as she rushed over to hug her mother.

“It’s good that you came.” Her mother patted her back. After not seeing each other for so many years, their reunion made her mother’s eyes redden as well. As they came out of the hug, Yan looked at her mother with her reddened eyes. “How… is Dad?”

“After the emergency rescue last night, the doctors said that he needed to be under observation for 48 hours. If he survives these 48 hours, he shouldn’t have trouble recovering, but…”

“48 hours…” Listening to these words, Yan felt faint. Isn’t that a total of two days? How did he get so badly injured? “Then, where is he right now? Can I go visit him?”

Yan’s mother shook her head. “I can bring you over to the intensive care unit, but the doctor is limiting visits. Our relatives came over this morning, so you just have to make do with standing beside me and looking at him from outside.”

“Okay.”

On their way to the intensive care unit, her mother frowned suddenly. “There seems to be a strange smell; what smell is that?”

Yan was focused on her father, and she didn’t smell anything strange, so she shook her head in response. However, her mother’s gaze landed on her at this moment, and she seemed to notice a major discovery. “H-How could you come to the hospital looking like this, Yan?”

As the two of them had not met for many years, her mother had been too emotional to pay attention, but now she came to notice that Yan had arrived in her pajamas. Moreover, her pajamas were stained and her hair was a rat’s nest.

“Mom? What’s wrong? Let’s go see how Dad is doing.”

Her mother stopped in her tracks and considered it briefly. “If your father was awake, and you visited him in this state, he might just faint from anger.”

“What’s wrong with me?” Yan asked.

“Look at how messy your hair is! Even a chicken’s coop wouldn’t compare to it! Besides, the sour smell I mentioned earlier…” Yan’s mother stepped closer and sniffed at her, then backed away with a look of disgust. Staying far away from Yan, she continued, “Tell me, how many days has it been since you last took a shower? There’s a stench coming from your body; are you sure you didn’t cause anybody to faint from it on your way to the hospital?”

Yan was rendered speechless. Staring wordlessly at her mother, she lowered her head weakly. Despite not seeing each other for so long, her tongue is still as sharp as ever. Am I really her biological daughter?

“Thank goodness you have not visited your father yet. With this smell… you’d wake your father up, then make him faint again.”

“Mom!” Yan stomped her feet anxiously. “Can you stop making fun of me? Dad is still lying in the intensive care unit!”

Hearing that, her mother rolled her eyes at her. “Huh, so you do know he is lying in the intensive care unit too. If he wasn’t lying in the intensive care unit, would you have come back?”

“I—”

“You can’t visit him anyway. I think you should just follow me home and clean yourself up first. Look at how dreadful you look; how embarrassing.”

“But I’m already here! You could at least let me have a look at Dad! Mom, I’m begging you; just let me take a peek at him, then I’ll go back and wash up!”

In the end, Yan’s mother brought her to visit her father. Standing outside the intensive care unit, she stared at the person lying on the bed through the window and felt like crying.

“D*mn old man; how could you be so careless while driving? Getting in a car accident at your age, you’ll be a laughing stock if people knew about it.” As she spoke, her tears fell.

Seeing her cry, her mother wiped away tears from her own eyes as she patted Yan’s shoulders. “You silly girl, your father is already in the intensive care unit, yet you’re calling him names. You really are a heartless brat.”

The mother and daughter hugged each other as they started bawling. Approximately ten seconds later, Yan’s mother wiped away the tears on her face and chided Yan, “That’s enough; it’s prohibited to be loud in the hospital. Our crying sounds are too loud; it’ll only disturb your father. If you want to cry, you can cry at home, and wash up while you’re at it.” With that, she pushed Yan away, a look of extreme disgust on her face.

Yan was speechless. My mother, ladies and gentleman!

Afterward, she followed her mother home. Standing at the door, her mother took out the keys and unlocked it as she spoke, “You might not have come home all these years, but I’ve kept your room clean for you. Now that your father has been hospitalized, you should just move back in. Your clothes are still there; although five years have passed, you seemed to be thinner than before, so you should still be able to wear them.”

Creak. The door opened and Yan followed her mother inside. Looking at the familiar furnishing in her home, the feeling of crying that had gradually faded came back to her in strong waves. Before her tears could fall, her mother turned around and slapped the back of her head. “Hurry up and take a bath, and take your shoes off too—I just mopped the floor yesterday.”

Yan became speechless again, and the tearful feeling she had vanished with the slap to her head. With a gloomy expression, she entered the bathroom.

“Where are your clothes? Are you planning to walk around nude?”

“Mom, will you even let me into my room in my current state?” Yan retorted.

“Well ,that’s true.”

Rolling her eyes, she lifted her head to look at herself. Seeing her reflection, she jumped in fright and took several steps back. With a horrified expression, she stared at the unkempt woman in the mirror. Is that… me? How did I turn out like that? Still looking at her reflection in the mirror, her pale lips quivered as her trembling hand touched her face. Her hair was a rat’s nest; her eyes were swollen and puffy; her lips were dry and cracked; her skin was dull and lifeless—she looked like a hag living in the mountains.

No, a hag from the mountains would look better than her; after all, a beautiful environment would bring out a person’s beauty, and the water in the mountains was clean and purifying. That was unlike herself—it was ridiculous how ugly she looked. How will Han Qing fall for me if I look like this? To think I dared to pity myself; what a joke.

Han Qing could not see her, and even if he did, he would not feel sorry for her. She had passed her days in increasing squalor; it was no wonder that people had stayed away from her like she was some kind of strange beast when she was outside. Even her mother had been disgusted by the odor coming from her body. Is it vexing to live like that? She had not looked in the mirror recently. Looking at her dreadful appearance all because of one man, she suddenly felt that it was utterly ridiculous.

Yan had been beside Han Muzi for a very long time; when Han Muzi broke up with Ye Moxuan, Han Muzi was heartbroken for a long time, but she never allowed herself to fall into such a dreadful state. But what about her? Falling into this state all because her unrequited love came to an end, she would be the butt of jokes if people knew about it.

Turning on the shower, she took off her clothes and washed with hot water until she was clean. From today onward, I can’t continue like this. A person’s life is long, and there are many interesting things in life. Love is not a requirement in life, and neither is a man.
