Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1041
“Ms. Zhou, Madam Luo, you’re here. Was it cold on your way here?”
When Luo Huimei saw the other party’s face, she thought that he was feeling uneasy. She wanted to say that if he wanted to know whether it was cold or not, then he should just take a walk outside and he would know. What kind of question was that? However, when the words came to her lips, she thought of the words Yan had said to her previously and changed her words accordingly.
“It’s not cold at all. I just came out to take a walk and exercise, but you must’ve been waiting for us here for a long time, right? I apologize for letting you wait so long.”
There was a 180-degree change in her attitude compared to last time, which made the other party a little puzzled. However, the broker was doing sales, after all, so he immediately responded in kind, “You’re being too polite, Madam Luo. It’s my job to wait for the client. Let me bring you to see the gentleman.”
“Gentleman?” Luo Huimei narrowed her eyes when she heard the gender being named. “Excuse me, can I ask what conditions the other party set? Where are we meeting? Will it be dangerous?”
Yan was speechless. She could not stop Luo Huimei in time before she asked these questions. The atmosphere became awkward for a moment. After a while, Yan twitched the corner of her lips and explained on behalf of her mother, “I’m sorry, my mom’s a bit conservative and you probably know how the elders in the community talk. At the same time, I hope you can understand that she doesn’t have any malicious intent; she’s just afraid that I’ll be hurt.”
The other party finally understood while nodding his head. He then said, “I understand that Madam Luo has such concerns, but please rest assured that we’re a legal agency and all our clients have been reviewed in advance. Generally speaking, there’ll be no accidents.”
“Mom, just relax and don’t think too much.”
Luo Huimei then nodded her head. After that, the other party brought them to meet the owner of the ramen restaurant. It was in a villa on the outskirts of the country. When she entered through the gates, Luo Huimei was a little stunned because the environment of the villa was very good at first glance. It seemed that this person was rich. Whether the rent was high or low did not seem all that important. The other party might not even… need the rental money.
“The owner of the stall is Lin, and we address him as Mr. Lin. I’ve heard that Mr. Lin closed down the ramen restaurant after he lost his wife. The elder Lin couple were known to be very loving, so after his wife passed away, he didn’t want to run the ramen restaurant again. Besides, it was said that the restaurant was designed by his late wife. That’s why everything should remain the same even if the restaurant runs again.”
Upon hearing this, Luo Huimei agreed. “According to what you’ve said, this Mr. Lin must really love his wife. How long has it been since his wife passed away?”
The agent shook his head. “I’m not too sure about this. It took me a lot of days of effort to get the information that I told you just now. I’m guessing the reason the rental here is expensive must be related to his late wife.”
Upon hearing this, Yan could finally understand what he meant. It seemed like Mr. Lin did not have the intention to rent the store out. Moreover, he would not let others renovate the place. It showed how affectionate he was to his late wife. He was afraid that it would be impossible to restore it back to its original state after changes were made. However, there was one thing that Yan could not understand. Initially, the deal was 300,000 a year, but why did the rental drop so much today? These past few days, she did not try to negotiate a deal through contacts, nor did she insist on this shop. Frankly, the shop was not within her consideration at all.
“I can understand what you said, but why did Mr. Lin suddenly lower the price? There must be a reason why he suddenly lowered the price so much, right?”
The agent smiled shyly while rubbing his nose. “To be honest, I’m not so sure myself. However, I heard that Mr. Lin is looking for the chosen one. Maybe you’re the one he’s looking for, Ms. Zhou.”
The chosen one? Luo Huimei’s expression went bad when she heard the three words. “What chosen one?”
Yan thought for a while and looked around. “Probably the chosen one for the ramen restaurant?”
The agent nodded his head. “Indeed, Ms. Zhou. I think that’s what it is.”
“Mom, don’t run your mouth later. Let’s observe first. Cooperation cannot be forced anyway.”
Under the guidance of the broker, Zhou Xiaoyan and her mom met Mr. Lin.
“Hello, Mr. Lin, I’m Zhu from XX Company. This is the Ms. Zhou I mentioned to you a few days ago, Zhou Xiaoyan.”
Zhou Xiaoyan approached him and nodded. “Hello, Mr. Lin.”
Mr. Lin smiled slightly. “Hello. I heard that you want to open a restaurant?”
“Yes, Mr. Lin.” Zhou Xiaoyan saw that the other party was being direct with her. She did not beat around the bush and nodded. “I like the Japanese design of the restaurant, but honestly speaking, the rent is too high for me. That’s why… I’m here to know why you would be willing to lower the price by so much. What are the conditions?”
“I see; you’re a very direct person. My condition is very simple. As long as you can fulfill this, there’s room for negotiation for the rent. It can even be free.”
Luo Huimei inhaled a deep breath after hearing this. He surely is rich and powerful. However, the condition… must be very strict, right? Luo Huimei could not be blamed. She really could not think what condition it would be that could make him waive the rent completely. Is he interested in my daughter? But, the agent mentioned that he’s affectionate and loyal to his late wife. He wouldn’t simply do that, right? Therefore, she decided to listen to her daughter’s advice and not run her mouth while continuing to observe.
“Please say it, Mr. Lin. I’ll do my best, but if…”
“Don’t worry, Ms. Zhou. I’m a proper man and I will not ask you to do things that are too much to ask for.”
“What are you referring to?”
“My late wife liked ramen the most, and this ramen restaurant was designed by her. She’s the one who came up with the ramen recipes on the menu. If you can recreate the dishes so that they taste like how my wife made it, the rent will be waived.”
During the conversation, a maid from the side passed her the menu.
Recreate the dishes so that they taste like how his wife made it? Luo Huimei could not help but utter softly after hearing it, “Yan hasn’t even met your wife before; how could she possibly recreate the dishes with the same taste?”
Mr. Lin only smiled without saying anything while he gave a meaningful look. However, Yan saw a glimpse of pain in his warm eyes. She pursed her lips and looked down at the menu while saying softly, “I’ll try my best.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1042
Mr. Lin had already set up the kitchen for her, and all the ingredients were already there. However, he would not help her prepare the ingredients as she would need to cook the dishes herself.
“I don’t want to make things difficult for Ms. Zhou either. It’ll be asking for too much to ask you to prepare everything by yourself. You can simply choose to make a couple of dishes that you’re good at. I’ll leave the kitchen for you. We’ll be waiting outside.”
“Okay.”
Later, Mr. Lin entertained the agent and Luo Huimei with tea outside. He had very good tea-brewing skills, but it was a shame there was no one there who would appreciate it. The agent was not a refined person. His pose was awkward when he was serving the tea, though he was good at currying favor with people. After a sip, the agent immediately praised, “It’s good tea.”
Mr. Lin only smiled without saying anything.
Meanwhile, Luo Huimei was only thinking of her daughter and did not feel like drinking the tea. She heard what the agent had said earlier and thought that Mr. Lin was a passionate person. It would be understandable if he did not allow the store to be renovated. The rent was so expensive as the store was the only memory he had left of his late wife. However, after the assigned task, Luo Huimei felt that he was making life difficult for them. Her daughter, Yan, had never met his late wife before, nor did she hear of her before the agent mentioned it today. Yet, she was asked to recreate the dishes so that they tasted exactly like his wife’s cooking. It was mission impossible.
Luo Huimei had a strong feeling that the other party had no intention of lowering the rent. He only called them here to humiliate them. She thought of being impulsive, but her words stopped at her lips and she decided to hold it back when she remembered her daughter’s exhortations before they came. Fine. Yan is still cooking inside. I need to believe in her. Luo Huimei thought that whatever tantrum she wanted to throw could wait until the final result came out first.
As time passed by, the agent was uncertain how many cups of tea he had already drunk. Mr. Lin kept brewing the tea as he drank it respectfully. It was a cold winter day but he felt warm after drinking so much hot tea. The agent had drunk too much tea and wanted to go to the bathroom. However, it would be very awkward if he made a move now, so he could only force himself to sit there. Ms. Zhou would probably be done soon, right? However, the agent could not stand it after waiting for a few more minutes. He asked awkwardly, “Excuse me, Mr. Lin, Madam Luo, I drank too much tea just now and would like to go to the bathroom for a while.”
Mr. Lin gave him a polite, yet indifferent glance. “Go ahead.” After that, he glanced at the servant next to him. She immediately understood. While approaching him, she said, “Sir, let me lead the way.”
The kitchen door opened not long after the agent left. Luo Huimei was already very nervous before this. She immediately stood up and approached her daughter when she heard the sound. “Yan, how is it? Is everything fine?”
Yan was shocked by her nervous mother and took two steps back to put a distance between them. “Mom, my body smells. Don’t come too close to me.”
Luo Huimei was so angry that she reached out to pinch her ear. “You little brat, it’s not the time to talk about this. Quickly tell me how everything went.” After saying that, she turned around and took a look at Mr. Lin. Mr. Lin was still sitting there and he looked at them calmly.
Luo Huimei whispered, “I think this Mr. Lin is up to no good. He’s obviously humiliating you by asking you to do this. If you have no confidence in this, let’s just go and say goodbye to him now. I’ll ask your dad to find you a better shop when we head home. Besides, we can just open a restaurant further away. It doesn’t have to be around here.”
“Mom, it’s too late for you to say that now. I’ve finished cooking the noodles. How would you know if your daughter can’t make it if the other party has not tried it yet?”
Luo Huimei replied, “What are you talking about? Of course I trust you, but you heard his condition to recreate the dish so that it tastes the same as how his late wife cooked it. Did you even know his wife? Did you know what her name was? How is it possible for you to do that? He’s obviously trying to con you. Now I regret bringing you to see the shop in the first place. Otherwise, all these would not be happening now.”
Zhou Xiaoyan comforted her, “It’s fine. Things have already gotten to this stage now, so there’s no point discussing this anymore.” She then took a few steps forward and nodded to Mr. Lin. “Mr. Lin, the noodles are done.”
Mr. Lin lifted his chin, and the servant went inside the kitchen to get the noodles. A bowl of delicious-looking and aromatic noodles was served in front of him. In the beginning, when they met Mr. Lin, he always had a faint smile on his face, which made him look pleasant but slightly distanced. After he saw the bowl of noodles, the look on his face changed. The smile on his face faded a little. A moment later, he lifted his head to look at Yan and whispered, “Ms. Zhou, you’re quite the bright one. This dish was my late wife’s favorite.” His wife’s favorite, and also his.
Mr. Lin never thought Ms. Zhou would have such sharp and observant eyes to choose this dish. The chefs who came over previously were over-confident that they could make a dish better than his wife and chose to make their signature dish. Yan, on the other hand, had picked the one he liked today. For a moment, Mr. Lin’s eyes became more serious when he looked at Yan. This person is not ordinary to be able to pick this dish out.
Mr. Lin smiled slightly. He lowered his head and picked up the chopsticks to taste the ramen. He was stunned after the first taste of the noodles and took another bite.
Luo Huimei was nervously watching this from the side while holding tightly onto her daughter’s arm. She whispered, “Can you make it, Yan?”
The expression on Zhou Xiaoyan’s face remained calm even though she was actually not confident at all. Just like what Luo Huimei said, she did not know his wife at all, nor had she tried the dishes she made. How is it possible to remake them exactly the way his wife did? However… she had her own thoughts.
After a moment, the smile on Mr. Lin’s face faded away. A glimpse of sadness was on his handsome face, and there was deep darkness under his eyes. Yan took a few steps forward and sat in front of him.
Mr. Lin lifted his head and said in a deep tone, “Ms. Zhou, the taste of the noodles is incomparable to my wife’s.”
Luo Huimei, who was beside her, heard the words and did not show a shocked expression as if everything was as she predicted. She clenched her fists in anger but heard her daughter reply softly, “Mr. Lin, this dish is what I specially made for you. I’m sure you’ve realized that.”
Lovesickness was bittersweet. In addition to his wife who had passed away, the memory of him losing her was bitter. However, it was sweet when he thought of the past memories they spent together. Therefore, the noodles tasted bitter with a hint of sweetness. Even though it was not especially tasty… it was the exact reflection of his current state.
The hand with which Mr. Lin held the chopsticks paused. He looked at Yan and said, “You’re very smart, but I wanted the exact taste as my wife’s cooking. Unfortunately, you didn’t fulfill my condition.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1043
Yan was not angry, and the agent came back in time to hear what Mr. Lin said. “Unfortunately, you didn’t fulfill my condition.”
He exclaimed and showed a face of disappointment. It seemed like the deal was not successful.
Yan was not angry but smiled slightly and said, “Mr. Lin, the moment you mentioned your condition, I already knew I would fail. I’m here to tell you that your wife has passed away, but she’ll forever live on in your heart. Moreover…” She lowered her eyes and seemed as if she thought of someone else. “Just being able to love someone dearly… You’re a blessed man, Mr. Lin.” Unlike her who never had anything, not to mention anyone to lose.
Mr. Lin looked at her and moved his lips but was unable to say a thing.
“Alright, it was a pleasure to look at your recipes today. It was an honor, but my father is still waiting for us to take care of him at the hospital, so I must take my leave now.” After saying that, Zhou Xiaoyan grabbed onto Luo Huimei’s arm and said softly, “Goodbye, Mr. Lin.”
Luo Huimei left with extreme disappointment as she was pulled by Yan. After that, Mr. Lin’s voice could be heard from the back. “Please wait.”
Zhou Xiaoyan stopped and turned around. “Anything else, Mr. Lin?”
“100,000 a year. What do you think?”
“Huh?” It seemed like she had not heard him. Luo Huimei widened her eyes as if she could not believe what she had heard.
“Although you didn’t fulfill the condition for the full waiver, at least the rent can be reduced to 100,000 a year. I’m not sure if you’ll find the price agreeable?”
Zhou Xiaoyan held her breath. “Mr. Lin, this—”
“You’re the first chef who could look through my state. Before this, the people who came and negotiated… They only came to impress me with their culinary skills or tried their best to recreate the same dish as my wife’s.”
However, only he knew the taste. His wife had already passed away. No one in this world could recreate the same taste as her dishes. No matter how much one tried to imitate it, the taste of his wife’s cooking was unique. However, Yan thought out of the box and made a bowl of noodles which resembled his current state of mind. No one liked bitter things, so that bowl of noodles… was disgusting. However, despite being extremely bitter, it left a hint of sweetness on the tongue. It was like every endless night of him missing his late wife before remembering her sweet smile.
“Therefore, the rent will be 100,000 a year. I, too, hope… that she wouldn’t lose all her efforts after she left.”
After exiting the Lin residence and getting in the car, Luo Huimei felt that everything was like a dream. “This is too unexpected, Yan. Why didn’t you tell me before? I thought you would follow the recipe and recreate the dish. I didn’t know you had this unique idea in mind.”
The agent also nodded his head vigorously and praised her. “Exactly. I already said from the beginning that you’re a smart woman, but I didn’t expect you to be more amazing than I expected.”
Zhou Xiaoyan smiled faintly and explained softly, “Actually, I wasn’t being smart at all; I just know every chef has their unique taste. It’s as if every human is unique on their own. Although there will be similarities, they won’t be the same person.” After she spoke, her thoughts slowly drifted away.
After she came to a deal with Mr. Lin and was about to leave, Mr. Lin looked at her as if there was something he wanted to say to her but hesitated. At that time, she did not know what he wanted to tell her and only looked at him quietly. At last, Mr. Lin smiled and said suddenly, “Ms. Zhou, if you can find someone who can stay with you forever, you must not give up and cherish that person.”
It did not seem like a particularly special sentiment after she heard it. However, as she thought about it more, something seemed strange about it. Why would Mr. Lin tell me something like this? But… what’s the part that’s weird about it?
Everything seemed to progress smoothly like how it should have. The other party merely did not want the store that his late wife had put the effort in to go to waste. That was why he came up with such a strict condition, yet she broke the rules. As such, she did not fulfill the condition…
“Yan, let’s tell your dad about the good news when we get back. After that, we’ll decide on the grand opening of the store. It’s already furnished, so we just need to choose a good day to start the business.”
Zhou Xiaoyan came back to her senses and nodded. “Okay.” Forget it. There’s nothing to feel weird about. Everything is progressing as it should. I’d better not think too much.
“Oh, right, do you want to invite that friend of yours for the grand opening? Since the person treated you well and cared for you, you must remember to invite her.” Luo Huimei was pretty happy when speaking about this since she did not expect everything to go so well.
Zhou Xiaoyan knew that the person her mother was referring to was Han Muzi. After she left the company, probably because she was running away from her, she did not make a call to Han Muzi at all. She did not even send a single WeChat message. As such, both of them had not been in contact for a very long time. I’m not sure how she’s doing now.
Since she had decided to let go, what else was she afraid to face? The more afraid she was of something, the more she should face it head-on.
“Sure, I’ll give her a call about this tonight.”
“Okay.”
…
On the other side, Mr. Lin was sitting alone in a daze after everyone left. Unbelievable. That was the worst bowl of noodles I have ever eaten. It was bitter when he put it inside his mouth. However, he kept trying it just for the hint of sweetness within the bitterness. After a while, he seemed to think of something and smiled calmly while making a call on his phone.
“You have good taste. She’s a serious and thoughtful girl.”
A moment of silence later, a cold voice sounded from the other side of the phone. “Is it done?”
Mr. Lin nodded his head. “Yes.” After answering, he seemed to think of something funny. “I haven’t seen you in so many years. I didn’t expect you to come to me because of a woman.”
The other party seemed uninterested in the topic. “I have a meeting in five minutes.”
Mr. Lin looked at the watch on his wrist. “Since there’s still five minutes to go, why not talk a bit longer with me? How did you two meet?”
“Lin Xuzheng, how did she pass? Even though I asked for your help, I know that you’re strict.”
After hearing this, Lin Xuzheng went back to eating his noodles while lowering his head. He was seriously taking in the flavor of the noodles. “She… reminds me of my wife.”
The other party stopped breathing for a moment. “What?”
“Don’t misunderstand. I don’t have any thoughts about her. It must have sounded a bit misleading. It’s more like the noodles she made reminds me of my wife.”
After hearing this, the other party went silent. Lin Xuzheng smiled and said, “She’s a nice lady. You have to cherish her if you mean it. Life is short. If you don’t spend time with her now, there won’t be a chance again in the future.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1044
The other end of the phone went silent. Lin Xuzheng smiled. “Why? Is that what you were thinking? Do you have nothing else to say?”
After a moment of silence, the voice from the other end of the call recovered his cold tone. “She’s my sister’s friend.”
“Oh?”
Lin Xuzheng let out a deep laugh. “So it’s a friend of the overprotective brother. Are you into partners younger than yourself? She looked very young, youthful, and energetic. Very suited for an old man like you.”
The other party kept quiet.
Lin Xuzheng acted as if he did not understand what he meant. According to his understanding of Han Qing, what he meant was that she was just her sister’s friend and he would only go to this extent because of this. But what kind of person was Lin Xuzheng? How could he possibly believe in Han Qing? He just simply misinterpreted the meaning of his words. Han Qing would not be able to do anything to him, anyway.
Indeed, the other party let out a sigh because he was too lazy to explain further and merely said, “Regardless of how you want to interpret this, my meeting is starting soon.”
Lin Xuzheng said, “Go ahead. Just remember, you owe me a favor.”
After the conversation, Lin Xuzheng hung up the phone while the smile on his face gradually faded. It was as if the person who just talked to Han Qing was someone else and not him. His wife had passed away for so many years, so he could control his emotions easily. Although there was bitterness in his heart, he could still talk and laugh on the surface. Even though his smile did not reach the bottom of his eyes and heart, so what? In this world, the only one who could understand his inner pain and care for him was dead. He… had lost her forever.
Lin Xuzheng closed his eyes while a faint smile appeared on his pale lips.
Han Muzi was surprised to receive the news that Yan was opening a restaurant. However, the shock soon became excitement. “When’s the grand opening? I’ll bring Moxuan along on that day.”
Yan suddenly became a bit awkward after hearing that Ye Moxuan would be coming and said softly, “Why don’t you just come by yourself? I’ll come and pick you up when the time comes. Young Master Ye’s aura is too strong. I’m not sure if our little store can handle it.”
After hearing this, Han Muzi subconsciously looked in the direction of the bathroom. Ye Moxuan was taking a shower in there. She could not hold her laughter after thinking about Ye Moxuan’s cold expression and his strong aura. “Don’t worry, I won’t let him scare people away on that day.”
“Sigh, Muzi… Are you really planning to bring him along?”
“Of course. It’s your restaurant’s grand opening. The more the merrier.”
Zhou Xiaoyan did not know how to reply for a moment. She turned around and took a look at Mr. Zhou who was in the ward. If Young Master Ye is coming for the grand opening, I’m not sure how my father would react to this. Will he be surprised or shocked? Zhou Xiaoyan was a bit curious suddenly. It might be fun, after all.
“Okay, you can bring him along then. By the way Muzi, you don’t blame me, do you?”
“Hmm?” Han Muzi felt weird hearing what she said. “Blame you for what?”
“I haven’t contacted you for so long, and… I didn’t go back to help you, yet I’m opening a restaurant by myself… I…”
The smile on Han Muzi’s face faded a little, and her tone became a little stern. “By saying these, do you mean to say that you don’t see me as a friend any longer?”
“Why do you think that, Muzi? Why wouldn’t I see you as a friend anymore? Please don’t misunderstand; that’s not what I meant…” Yan heard the stern tone in Han Muzi’s words and got nervous. She tried her best to explain while looking like she was about to cry from nervousness.
“It’s fine, don’t be so anxious. I’m not blaming you. I just feel that if you see me as your friend, then you shouldn’t keep trying to appease me. Whatever you want to do, just do it. I can’t interfere with your matters and have no right to blame you, understand?”
Yan replied, “Muzi, I—”
“I’m angry because you feel guilty toward me when I’m the one who owes you. All these years… if you hadn’t been by my side, I’m afraid I wouldn’t even be here today.”
“No, no, no.” Yan shook her head hard. “You’re the one who made me who I am today. If it were not for you, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to make so much money…” How would I be able to open a restaurant without the money? All in all, Yan was very grateful to Han Muzi.
“Are you crazy? The money you earn is equivalent to your effort. This achievement belongs to you and has nothing to do with me. Yan, we’re friends and good sisters. We’re equal in this relationship. Don’t position yourself so low in front of me.”
“Muzi…”
“If you’re going to keep looking down on yourself, then I’m afraid we can’t be friends anymore.”
Zhou Xiaoyan immediately got anxious after hearing this. “Please don’t, Muzi. I won’t do it again.”
“Good to hear that.”
“Yes, I promise.”
In the end, the two of them finally went back to normal and started chatting happily again. After hanging up the phone, Han Muzi set her phone aside on the desk beside the bed. Ye Moxuan got out of the bathroom when he saw her do that and stopped wiping his hair. “Little Bean called?”
Upon hearing him, Han Muzi paused her hand and shook her head. “It wasn’t Little Bean, it was Yan.”
Ye Moxuan’s expression seemed a little dazed, and he returned to his clear look after a while. “Oh, her.”
“What’s with that expression? You took that long to recall who she is?” Han Muzi replied in dissatisfaction. No wonder Yan asked me to come alone. I can’t believe Ye Moxuan actually forgot about her.
Ye Moxuan pursed his lips and rubbed his nose helplessly. It was indeed pretty awkward to forget someone. Moreover, it was someone Muzi valued. However, he did not forget it on purpose. It was because his lost memories had been playing hide and seek with him recently—coming and leaving again. Ye Moxuan was the only one who knew that his memories were mixed up wrongly. This was due to him having not fully recovered his memories, so he found it hard to differentiate between which parts came first and which later. He did not forget that Yan was a good friend of Han Muzi. However, he just had it at the back of his head since he had not been in contact with her much.
Only Meng Xueyou was remembered clearly by him. However, he remembered her clearly not because of anything else, but because she did unforgivable things to Muzi and him. He could understand the character of Meng Xueyou after gaining back some memories and with the information provided by Xiao Su.
“I remember.” Ye Moxuan walked to the side of the bed while bending over to approach Han Muzi. “Everything about you, I remember clearly. It’s just that she and I didn’t have much interaction before, so I didn’t think too much about it. Why? Do you want me to get close to your best friend, Mrs. Ye?”
Han Muzi widened her eyes accusatorily. “It’s different. What’s there to do between you getting close with her and you forgetting her?”
Ye Moxuan curled his lips helplessly while grabbing her chin. “You’ve seen through me?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1045
Han Muzi did not know how to respond.
“That’s too bad, then.” Ye Moxuan chuckled, then he quickly leaned in and kissed her.
His lips had already moved away when Han Muzi froze. He ambushed me again! Han Muzi covered her mouth and glared at him. After a while, she pulled down her hands and snorted as she was too lazy to argue with him again. “I have something important to tell you.”
Han Muzi then told Ye Moxuan about Yan’s plan to start a business. He did not have much of an expression on his face as he stood there drying his hair. He just nodded his head after listening to her.
“So I’ll be attending the restaurant’s grand opening that day.”
“Are you bringing me along?” Ye Moxuan turned around and looked at her with his dark eyes.
Han Muzi gulped subconsciously when he gave her that look. Initially, she did not want to since Ye Moxuan had forgotten about Yan. Moreover, Yan also wished that she would go herself, but she could only nod when he looked at her with those eyes now. “Sure, I suppose…”
I suppose…
The next day, Han Qing gave Han Muzi a call to ask her to come back for dinner. She then agreed after thinking that she had not had dinner with her family ever since she came back to China. However she started feeling suspicious as her brother had not invited her back for dinner all this while, so why would he do so suddenly? Coincidentally, Yan had called her last night to tell her about her plans to start a restaurant. Is there a link between these two cases?
Han Muzi racked her brain, and when she mentioned it to Ye Moxuan, his expression was faint. “You shouldn’t meddle too much in other people’s relationships.”
She immediately became upset after hearing this. “What do you mean by meddling? I’m just trying to know if there’s a link between these two cases. Moreover, they’re not ‘other people’. Han Qing is my elder brother, and Yan is my best friend. It’d be a good thing if they can get together.”
Ye Moxuan looked up, and his eyes fell on her face. Suddenly, those cold eyes became hot as if it was going to burn a hole on her face.
“W-Why are you looking at me like that?”
Ye Moxuan walked to her and locked her into his arms. “If your brother is interested in her, he’ll take action. Otherwise, he won’t budge even if someone pushed him from the side.”
Han Muzi replied, “You sound like you’re speaking from experience.” She cautiously grilled him while lowering her eyes. However, just as she lowered her head, her chin was grabbed by Ye Moxuan. Her head was lifted again.
“Why not? When I went on blind dates last time, wasn’t Mrs. Ye watching me from the side?”
At first, Han Muzi was a bit dazed. After thinking back for a moment, she suddenly widened her eyes as if she thought of something surprising. “Y-You… remember?”
There was a glimpse of a smile in Ye Moxuan’s eyes. “A little.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
Tell her? The color under his eyes darkened a little. “I wanted to give you a surprise.” In reality, Ye Moxuan had not fully recovered his memories and there was still a lot that he could not remember. Moreover, some of his memories were messed up, so he was afraid that Han Muzi would keep asking him about it and that would only make her worry. She’s pregnant now and shouldn’t have to worry about these.
Han Muzi was a little touched when she heard that he wanted to surprise her. However, she also felt bad for him as she knew he was hiding from her a lot of pain during this period when he tried to recall his memories. He was well-intentioned about not wanting her to know this. As such, Han Muzi acknowledged his efforts. He acted normally all day, so Han Muzi also pretended that nothing had happened. She accompanied him to have his meals, sleep, go out, and walk back home together. It would be fine as long as he gradually recovered every day and nothing too extreme happened. However, her heart ached when thinking about it.
Han Muzi tried to suppress the pain. She reached out and pulled Ye Moxuan’s neck to touch his forehead with hers. “We’re already an old couple. What’s with the surprise?” She softly roasted him again, since she was going to deliver her second child soon.
“Old couple?” Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes a little as if he was surprised by this term. He gave a little smile after thinking about it for a while. “We’re already considered an old couple? At least wait till we have a head full of white hair.”
Wait till we have a head full of white hair? Han Muzi was stunned as she had never thought of it before. After hearing it from Ye Moxuan, a scene where both she and Ye Moxuan grew old together suddenly appeared before her. Her heart felt a little warm after thinking about it. Han Muzi rubbed his forehead lightly. “Let’s make a deal to grow old together. You shouldn’t get involved in any accidents again.”
“Yes, Mrs. Ye.”
Both of them kissed as they talked. However, Ye Moxuan managed to step on the brakes at the last minute. Despite him just coming out from the bathroom, he went back in again after separating from Han Muzi.
Han Muzi initially did not plan to bring Ye Moxuan along when Han Qing invited her for dinner since the both of them had much to catch up with. Although there was not much of an inconvenience to him being there, Han Muzi was worried that he might be left out while she was talking to Han Qing.
That was how Han Muzi thought of it initially, and she even told Ye Moxuan about it. After he heard this while they were on their way, he said directly to her, “It’s fine; you can just talk with him.”
Alas? She talked to Han Qing, and Ye Moxuan just sat beside her. Although he did not get involved in the conversation, he would occasionally grab her hand, or clasp their hands together. After a while, he would tuck the hair on her cheeks behind her ears, then tidy up her collar. A moment later, he would put his coat on her. He would have all sorts of excuses for these.
Under these scenarios, could Han Muzi still have a proper conversation with Han Qing? Of course not. Although Ye Moxuan did not join in the conversation, his presence was too obvious to ignore. At last, Han Muzi could not stand it and lowered her volume to whisper to Ye Moxuan, “What are you doing?”
Ye Moxuan’s eyes were full of laughter when he met Han Muzi’s angry gaze. “What have I done?”
“Didn’t we agree before we came that I’ll be talking to him?”
“Yes.” Ye Moxuan nodded his head. “Please go on.”
Han Muzi replied, “Do you think that you’re not distracting me just because you’re not talking?”
Upon hearing that, Ye Moxuan lifted his brows to show that he did indeed think so. Han Muzi felt he would not budge after looking at his expression and immediately got up while pulling on his sleeves. “Han Qing, I have something to talk to him about. Wait for me in the study. I have something to talk to you about as well.”
Han Qing moved his eyes to look at Ye Moxuan for a moment and nodded. “Okay.”
After he got up and left, Han Muzi pulled Ye Moxuan up and pushed his back to walk outside. “You go and take a stroll at the park to digest your food since we just had dinner.”
Ye Moxuan’s big and tall body figure hardly moved an inch when she pushed him from the back. He immediately grabbed both of her fair hands and asked, “Is there so much you want to talk to your brother about? I’m not allowed to hear those things?”
Han Muzi glared at him and replied, “I’ll be talking to him about Yan. Do you want to listen?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1046
Yan’s matters? Ye Moxuan frowned slightly, his hand squeezing down on Han Muzi’s with more pressure. “Didn’t you say you will stay out of it? Are you trying to be their matchmaker?” For some reason, he thought of his assistant, Xiao Su, who seemed to be helping out a lot with the company’s affairs these days. I wonder if he managed to seize the opportunity.
“No, I’m just talking about it. How does that make me their matchmaker?”
“Then, just leave it alone.” Pursing his lips, he continued, “I mentioned this the other day; if your brother has any interest in her, he will act on his own. There is no need for outside intervention.”
“But—” she began.
“He dotes on you and does everything you ask for; if you say something, and cause him to change his mind, can you take responsibility for the consequences?”
Han Muzi said nothing in response.
“So, do you still plan to interfere?”
Suddenly narrowing her eyes as she stared at him, she asked seriously, “Are you sincere in saying these things?”
“Hmm?”
“Is it because your assistant is also head over heels for Yan, so… you won’t let me be their matchmaker?”
When she said that, he instantly raised his eyebrows. He initially wanted to stop her because she was pregnant, and he did not want her to worry about other people’s relationship issues during her pregnancy. At the end of the day, everybody would have their own destiny and everything happened for a reason; if she kept sticking her nose into their affairs, it might not turn out to be a good thing. It did not even cross his mind to help Xiao Su; he had already given Xiao Su a hand while they were overseas, but it seemed like Muzi’s friend was not interested in Xiao Su. Therefore, he had nothing against it, nor did he have anything to say about it. If there was something or someone Ye Moxuan really wanted something from, then it could only be Han Muzi.
He mulled over it, then reached out his hand and tapped her smooth forehead lightly. “What nonsense are you thinking about? What has this got to do with other people?”
“If it doesn’t matter, then why won’t you let me interfere?”
Looking at her fair cheeks, he wrapped her scarf securely around her to prevent her from freezing, then spoke in a gentle and warm voice, “Do you think the time we spent together since coming back from overseas is long?”
“Huh?” Unable to understand why he asked this, she replied with a question, “What do you mean?”
“Just answer my question.”
After careful consideration, she realized that they had not spent much time together. Ever since returning to China, they had been busy with work and other matters. They were busy with their affairs during the day… So, other than during night time, they did not have much time to spend together. She coughed lightly when she realized that. “What’s wrong?”
“We already have so little time to spend with each other, so why are you wasting it on others?” As he spoke, he slowly moved closer. His thin lips, almost touching her forehead, moved gently with every word he spoke.
She understood what he meant; he hoped she wouldn’t distract herself with thoughts of others, but…
“When Little Bean comes home, there will be even less time for us to be together like this.”
“Alright, you can stop now.” She cut across his words. After his barrage of accusations, she felt that if she still went to Han Qing to bring up Yan, then it wasn’t right of her. Furthermore, after being told off by him like this, she felt that she shouldn’t interfere in Yan’s affairs anymore. In the past, she had not thought of intervening before, but this time around… for some inexplicable reason, she just had to bring it up. At this point, she could only say, “I understand what I should do now, but I’ve already asked Qing to wait for me in the study, so I still need to go and meet him before we can leave.”
“Good girl.” Ye Moxuan pinched her cheeks. “I’ll give you five minutes; I’ll be waiting outside for you.”
“Okay.”
Then, he finally let go of her and went outside to wait. Subsequently, she turned around and headed toward the study to look for Han Qing. On the way to the study, Han Muzi was thinking furiously, What should I say later to ease the awkwardness? After all, she told him she had something to say, and it came off as if it was something urgent. However, she had no intention to bring up Yan anymore. What other important matters are there to speak of? What should I do if Han Qing asks about it later?
Feeling a slight headache coming on, she was already at the door to the study. Stepping forward, she hesitated, then reached out and knocked on the door.
“Come in.” A cool and steady voice came through the door. Pushing the door open, she saw Han Qing sitting at his desk with his laptop in front of him. The laptop screen was bright and a stack of documents was scattered next to it. Taking one look at him, she couldn’t help asking, “Qing, are you still working at this hour?”
Han Qing reached out and closed his laptop. “Yeah, I was handling some minor issues at the company. I’ll be done soon.”
“Qing, don’t work too hard. It’s time to rest right now, so you shouldn’t still be working like this. Your health is the most precious asset you can have.”
“Isn’t the pot calling the kettle black?” His eyes were dyed with warmth and his voice softened—it wasn’t as cold as it was before. “What about the time you were managing your company? Why didn’t you think about your condition as a pregnant lady then? That you shouldn’t be working like that?”
Not expecting her words to be thrown back at her, she had nothing to rebut with. Thus, she coughed lightly and smiled in embarrassment.
“Why did you come looking for me?” he asked, his fingertips tapping against the desk softly.
I didn’t expect to come to the main topic so soon. Han Muzi had decided against telling him about Yan, so she could only talk about other matters. However, she had nothing of importance to speak of. In the end, she directed the flow of conversation to Ye Moxuan’s memories and told Han Qing about everything that had happened recently. Sure enough, he took it seriously after hearing what she said. “If that’s the case, I suggest you consult a doctor for guidance.”
“Consult a doctor? I thought of it too, but… he normally looks no different from a normal person. I know he is hiding his pain from me, but I don’t know what kind of pain he is going through since I’ve never experienced it before.”
“This matter may be serious, or it may be nothing. If he continues to recover without any long-lasting effects, then it doesn’t matter. However, looking at his current condition, I’d recommend getting treatment for it. Muzi, now that you’re pregnant, you shouldn’t be worrying about these matters. I’ll talk to him about this on another day.”
“Huh? Qing, you want to talk to him about this?” Han Muzi pondered it for a moment, then decided that it was for the best. If it came from her brother, Ye Moxuan might have fewer qualms about it. On the other hand, if it came from her, he might refuse the very notion of going to a doctor. Thus, she nodded lightly. “I think that will be for the best. Then, I’ll leave this matter to you, Qing. Still… you need to take more care of your health. Work can be set aside for the moment. Besides, you’re not young anymore; Qing, do you really have no plans to settle down?”
As if he knew what she was going to say, Han Qing smiled as he interrupted her. “You know as well as anyone that at my age, looking for a partner is just a waste of others’ time. After so long, I’ve lost interest in love; whether I have it or not, it’s the same for me.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1047
Whether I have it or not, it’s the same for me? Han Muzi wasn’t convinced. To this day, she had not forgotten that one night while they were abroad—the night Yan had gotten herself drunk and came down with a fever. She had clearly heard… what Han Qing said to Yan when they were outside.
Based on how Han Qing looked as well as the tone of his voice at that time, Han Muzi was sure he felt a spark with Yan. However, after that night, they acted as if nothing had happened between them, and he quickly left. Moreover, since they got back, they have had no contact with each other. Han Muzi was certain he had feelings for Yan, but as to why he was not willing to try it out, she could not—for the life of her—figure it out. Just what had happened?
She opened her mouth, but Ye Moxuan’s words rang in her ears. We already have so little time together; do you still plan on sticking your nose into others’ affairs? Thus, she swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue. Forget it; I promised Moxuan that I will stay out of their matters. Why am I still bringing it up?
The allotted time of five minutes agreed between her and Ye Moxuan was nearly up, so she decided not to continue with the topic. Hence, she said, “Alright, I understand. Since you have already decided in your heart, I won’t pry further. Moxuan is waiting for me downstairs, so I’ll go back for today.”
“Go on then.” He nodded.
Turning around, she took two steps before she turned back to look at him with a hesitant expression. “Qing, did you call me back today, just to have dinner together?”
Han Qing’s fingers tapping against the desk paused and his gaze wavered slightly, but his voice was neutral. “Why else?”
Why else? After giving him a fixated glance, she withdrew her gaze. “It’s nothing; I’ll take my leave then.” Afterward, she did not turn back again and left the study hurriedly. She was unaware that after she left, the man sitting before the desk lowered his eyes and his gaze became dim.
When Han Muzi reached downstairs, she saw Ye Moxuan walking toward her from afar. Calculating the minutes that had passed, she seemed to be running late. She cleared her throat slightly and walked forward a little guiltily. His thin lips were curved in a slight, faint smile. On the surface, nothing stood out, but she could sense the temper hiding behind his nonchalant smile.
“Five minutes have passed.” Looking at his watch, he reminded her softly.
Light though his voice might have been, she heard the undertone of danger lurking beneath it. She smiled as she walked over and covered his watch. “Your watch must be moving too fast. I checked the time while I was in the study; I came down in exactly five minutes. You can’t fault me for needing time to walk there and back again, right?”
“Hmm?” He arched his brows.
She continued, “Moreover, we did not say anything about the five minutes including the time I needed to walk there and back. You can’t blame me for that. Besides, I didn’t say all that much to my brother anyway.”
“Didn’t say all that much?” He narrowed his eyes slightly. “If you didn’t say much, would you have needed more than five minutes?”
“I just asked about his daily affairs and showed some concern toward my brother. He is my family; am I not even allowed to talk about this stuff with him?”
Now that things had come to this, it would be unacceptable if he continued to push her. There might not exist a person named Han Qing in his memories, but it was her brother after all. It would be bad to take it too far. Therefore, Ye Moxuan decided to let it go. His large hands circled around her waist and pulled her into his embrace. “So, are you done?”
Han Muzi stared at him. “I’m done.”
“Let’s go home.”
After signing the contract with Lin Xuzheng, Zhou Xiaoyan thanked the other party. She also claimed that if he liked the noodles she made, she would make it for him anytime he wanted, or if he visited her shop. Smiling faintly, he silently accepted her offer.
Afterward, Yan began to prepare for the store’s opening. The store had been her idea; now that it had been realized, many issues needed to be taken seriously—many things had to be taken care of before the store could be opened. Thankfully, she wasn’t the only one running up and down handling the preparations; Luo Huimei was helping her with it too.
However, Mr. Zhou had yet to be discharged from the hospital. After rushing about for two days, they decided to put things aside until he was discharged from the hospital. When he found out about it, he nonchalantly waved his hand dismissively. “It’s fine. You guys should go about your business. I won’t die from this, so don’t worry about me.”
“Dad, we can’t do that. We have to take care of you first. The opening of the store has been decided, so it’s fine to take it easy for a bit.”
Luo Huimei, who was sitting by the bedside eating grapes, nodded her head in agreement at Yan’s words. “That’s right.” Then, she stuffed another grape into her mouth.
Looking at her actions, Mr. Zhou closed his eyes in frustration. “Will you stop focusing on eating? You should be taking better care of our daughter. Look at how thin she has become since she came back. Why isn’t she gaining any weight despite staying at home? Forget gaining weight; why does she seem like she’s getting thinner?”
Luo Huimei became unhappy at his words and spat back at him, “What do you mean I only focus on feeding myself? It’s not that I want to say this, Zhou, but haven’t you gone overboard? What has your daughter being thin got to do with me? You should know best how delicious the dishes I cook every day are! Besides, let me make this clear with you; if it wasn’t because your daughter was running back and forth to visit you in the hospital, would she be this thin?”
Rendered speechless, the man could say nothing in response.
Yan spluttered, “Dad, Mom, stop that. I’m thin because I’m on a diet; it has nothing to do with either of you.”
“On a diet?” The Zhou couple looked at her in unison. “You’re already so thin, why are you on a diet? Don’t become like all the other girls out there; if you become as thin as a bamboo stick, who would want you? What’s so great about being so thin that a gust of strong wind could blow you away?”
Yan’s mouth twitched. She wasn’t on a diet; her weight was always well-maintained. However, she had too many things on her plate recently. Coupled with the period when she wasn’t eating properly before, she immediately lost a lot of weight when she had too much on her mind.
At that thought, she instantly said, “Oh, I won’t be that bad. Once things on the storefront have calmed down, I will quickly make up for it. Don’t worry, I will take care of myself.”
As time passed, Ye Moxuan gave a call to Little Bean, informing him that he was sending people over in two days to escort him and Yuchi Jin back to China.
“Daddy, if I’m going back with Great-Grandfather in two days, does that mean you have settled everything on your side?”
“Yeah.” Ye Moxuan nodded; he had settled everything he needed to do here.
Little Bean continued to ask, “How did you handle it, Daddy?”
“Why does a little kid like you need to ask so many questions? When you come back, make sure to spend more time with your mommy.”
The boy snorted loudly at those words. “I don’t need bad Daddy to tell me that; I will definitely stay by Mommy’s side.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1048
After ending the call, Little Bean thought hard about it, but something still didn’t feel right. It hasn’t been that long; does Daddy really have the ability to settle everything so quickly? Then, what about the company overseas? Great-Grandfather is getting on with his years; although he rarely goes to the company during the day, he still takes the time to approve certain important documents himself.
As for the rest, the managers are there to keep the company operating, so there is no need for him to worry about these trivial matters. However, that does not mean that he can just sit back and relax. After all, he isn’t young anymore; if he were to leave the country, who would manage the company affairs?
He began to worry about it, then decided to visit Yuchi Jin after hanging up the call.
At this time, Yuchi Jin was holding a video conference in the study while wearing his gold-rimmed reading glasses. Little Bean stood at the door and stealthily peeked inside. He found that, despite his age, Yuchi Jin had a formidable and majestic expression on his face while he was holding his meeting. Besides, his speech was clear, organized, and carried an impressive aura to it.
I guess there’s nothing to worry about; Great-Grandfather doesn’t look like he will be facing any major issues.
Yuchi Jin kept his face straight. As long as his great-grandson wasn’t around, he rarely smiled; less so when he was working. Thus, nobody dared to casually joke around in front of him. Due to his age, his eye sockets were deeply sunken, making his gaze seem more powerful and sharp.
“Yes, let’s agree on this then; you can start working on it immediately. Secretary Lin, please follow up on this matter and report to me if any special circumstances arise.” He was about to continue speaking when he noticed a figure standing by the door from the corner of his eye. His expression changed slightly as he thought that it was a servant, with no fear of death, who dared to violate a taboo of his. However, when he raised his eyes to look over, his gaze met with a pair of eyes as black as glass beads.
Little Bean? The sharp aura wrapped around him dissolved instantaneously. The people in the video conference noticed the change too, and they were looking at each other in confusion when they heard him say, “Seeing as we have concluded this matter, if there is nothing else, let’s end the meeting here. I’m tired.”
“Understood.”
He then ended the video conference and took off his reading glasses. Then, he waved at the little figure by the door to come in. “If you’re already here, why didn’t you come in?”
Little Bean hid behind the door with his hand covering his mouth, but at this moment, he blinked his eyes strongly. Hearing Yuchi Jin talking to him, he turned around and walked in with his short, little legs. “Great-Grandfather!”
As soon as Yuchi Jin heard the little guy calling him ‘Great-Grandfather’ in his melodious, childlike voice, his frozen heart melted instantly and was filled to the brim with warmth and tenderness. He reached his hand out toward Little Bean. “Come over to me, my little one.”
Little Bean walked over obediently.
“Why didn’t you come in? Why were you peeking from behind the door?” Yuchi Jin pulled him onto his lap, then helped him straighten out his clothes. Noticing that he was dressed lightly, Yuchi Jin frowned. “The weather is so cold right now; why are you dressed so lightly? Are the servants not taking care of you properly?”
“That’s not it, Great-Grandfather. The servants have been very nice to me, but I’m not cold.” Then, he hugged Yuchi Jin’s arm. “Great-Grandfather, I didn’t enter because I saw you were talking. So, I didn’t come in so as to not disturb you.”
“What a good boy.” Yuchi Jin was very pleased with how Little Bean was so understanding and considerate. After getting along with Little Bean, he had to admit that Muzi had brought up her kid very well. Despite his high status, he had met many spoiled brats. Even children of large enterprises would act well-behaved on the surface and greeted him politely, but their eyes revealed their impatience and abhorrence for it. On the other hand, some were dull and mechanical—like machines.
Be that as it may, Little Bean was different. When he greeted somebody or talked to somebody, his eyes were lively and serious, making it hard to ignore anything he said. Furthermore, his conversation skills were smooth and comfortable; no matter what was said to him, he always had an answer beyond one’s expectations. Sometimes, he could even speak eloquently on matters others did not know of.
For Yuchi Jin’s great-grandson to be so bright and smart, he was not only relieved but also ecstatic. If my Moxuan does not want to inherit my assets and the conglomerate, then… I can leave it all to my great-grandson. The moment this thought began to take root in his mind, it could no longer go away.
Recently, he had begun having this notion. Before this, he had worried about who he was going to hand over all his assets to after he passed. When he found Ye Moxuan, he had been overjoyed, thinking that he could make Ye Moxuan stay behind by changing his name—to protect and inherit his assets. In the end, Ye Moxuan decided he wanted to return to China. Thus, he began worrying about it again. When the idea came that Little Bean could inherit everything from him, he finally felt he had found a solution to all his worries.
That was why, when Ye Moxuan called him to inform him about his return to China with Little Bean, he immediately told Ye Moxuan about this idea. After falling silent for a bit, Ye Moxuan told him, “Muzi and I both respect Little Bean’s opinions. He may be a kid, but he can think independently. So, you should discuss this with him. If he agrees to take over your assets when he grows older, then Muzi and I will not be against it.” After all, he had to make his own path to adulthood. As parents, they had no right to interfere; it was fine as long as he did not go astray.
Once this matter was settled between Ye Moxuan and Yuchi Jin, it was decided that the latter would bring up the topic with Little Bean himself. Since he had found a solution to his worries, he agreed to go back to China with Little Bean. There were many trustworthy people in his company, and they could manage the company for the time being. Thus, he could afford to go to China and live with them for a short period, as long as he made time to come back once in a while.
“Great-Grandfather, do you have a lot to do at the company?” Little Bean asked in his childlike voice. During the time they had spent together, they became very close. Yuchi Jin straightened out Little Bean’s clothes while Little Bean reached out his warm little hands to warm Yuchi Jin’s ears.
These words and small actions warmed Yuchi Jin’s frozen heart. Pinching Little Bean’s cheeks, he wondered how he should broach the subject. “I’m not that busy with the company; I have many professionals managing it, as well as a few trustworthy people. So, I only need to handle very important matters. Little Bean, what did you think of the company when I brought you there with me the other day? Was it cool?”
Little Bean nodded innocently and replied per his great-grandfather’s wishes, “It’s great; the company is very cool indeed. Great-Grandfather is awesome!”
Listening to these words pleased Yuchi Jin, and he narrowed his eyes in satisfaction. “Then, Little Bean, are you willing to manage this company?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1049
What?! Little Bean blinked his eyes as he looked at Yuchi Jin who was in front of him. Then, he blinked again while Yuchi Jin simply continued to gaze at him steadily. Although there was a faint trace of a smile on Yuchi Jin’s face and his eyes were narrowed into a thin line, the expression on his face and the undercurrent of emotions in his eyes indicated that not a single word he said had been a joke. Little Bean continued to blink in surprise. Don’t tell me… this is the solution Daddy came up with?
There was only one thought left running in circles inside his head, and that was… Have I been set up by Daddy? He didn’t want Great-Grandfather’s company, so he simply dumped such a huge company on me? He just dumped it onto a clueless 5-to-6-year-old kid! At that thought, he felt like crying. Bad daddy! A man who would hurt Mommy is a good-for-nothing after all! Now the target has been switched to me! This is so unfair!
“Little Bean?” Seeing as he was not answering, Yuchi Jin misunderstood; he thought that he did not understand. So, he explained once more, “Don’t worry, I did say that I will hand over the company to you, but it won’t happen immediately. I will wait until you have the necessary management skills. Look at it this way; in the future, you’ll own billions in assets.”
Little Bean tilted his head to one side. I’m only 6 years old and I’m already a multi-billionaire? That sounds amazing! However, he felt that having to manage such a large conglomerate was exhausting. Moreover, his dream was not to become a president like his daddy. My dream…
Pouting his lips, his expression revealed that he was rather reluctant to accept it. Yuchi Jin did not expect the outcome to turn out like this. Feeling slightly awkward, he said, “Little Bean, I won’t force you. If you don’t want to, you can take your time to think it over. Or, I can turn these assets into cash, and pass it to you. At least my little great-grandson will never have to worry about money in the future.”
Truthfully, this was not the right method—Little Bean would become spoiled. In the worst case, it could cause the child’s personality to become twisted. They would tend to spend lavishly wherever they went, thinking that there would always be a contingency in place. Not only that, but they would also think that there was no need for them to work hard in the future. However, if it was Little Bean, he believed that there was nothing to worry about.
Although he did not feel bad about giving everything he worked so hard to build up to his children and their families, he did feel that it was a bit unfortunate. At first, Little Bean was reluctant to accept it, but after careful consideration, he felt that accepting the deal would not affect his dreams anyway.
In any case, there was a long time to go until he became an adult. Besides, the company was so large; all he needed to do was find a person he could trust to manage the company when the time came. Afterward, he could just retreat into the shadows and pursue his dreams. Isn’t that a great idea?
“Great-Grandfather, please don’t think like that. I promise you that I’ll do it.”
“What did you say?” Yuchi Jin was ecstatic. “Are you being serious, Little Bean?”
The boy nodded. “Yeah.”
“Good! Good, good, good!” In his overjoyed state, Yuchi Jin repeated the word ‘good’ continuously. He continued, “Then, I should quickly tell your daddy about this joyous news!”
Little Bean sat where he was and blinked his eyes. Oh, I think I’m going to be very rich.
…
Three days later, Yuchi Jin brought Little Bean with him as they returned to China. Ye Moxuan and Han Muzi went to the airport to pick them up personally, then brought them back to Seabay Villa to stay. After returning to China, Little Bean spent a long time chatting away with his mother. He also made time to settle his grudge with his daddy, then had a video call with Yan. “Aunt Yan, I’m back! I miss eating the food you cook.”
Zhou Xiaoyan lived with this little guy for close to five years, and though they weren’t mother and son, their relationship was almost as close as a mother and a child. When she saw him acting coyly toward her, her heart softened instantaneously. “What a good boy! I’ll cook for you if you want to eat my cooking.”
“But, I heard from Mommy that you’ve resigned, Aunt Yan. Plus, you don’t live in that house we used to live in anymore.” The little guy looked very disappointed, and even the tip of his eyebrows seemed sad. “Where did you go, Aunt Yan? Do you not want to see me anymore?”
Yan replied, “What are you talking about? Where are you right now? I’ll go and pick you up, okay?”
30 minutes later, she arrived at the Seabay Villa in a taxi and saw Little Bean waiting for her from afar. “Sir, can you wait here for me? I still need a ride back later.”
The driver nodded his head. “Sure.”
She got out of the car and closed the door; she hurried over to him. While she was walking over, she took off the scarf around her neck almost subconsciously and wrapped it around him the moment she came close. “The weather is so cold; why didn’t you bring a scarf with you? Besides, why are you here alone? Where are your parents?”
“Daddy and Mommy are together, so I decided not to disturb them.”
Staring down at his cheeky expression, she wanted to laugh. She reached out and pinched his cheeks as she softly admonished him. “How can you be so cheeky?”
Little Bean blinked. “Was I wrong, Aunt Yan? Daddy told me that although I’m back, I must not carelessly interrupt their alone time together.”
Yan was speechless. She could not believe that Ye Moxuan acted like that in private. Feeling a little exasperated and embarrassed, she quickly changed the topic. “Alright then. But you have to send them a message later saying that you’re out with me. Otherwise, your mommy would worry herself to death when she can’t find you.”
Obediently, he nodded. After that, Yan brought him into the car. The moment they got into the car, he noticed a thermal container in the car and became excited. “Aunt Yan, did you bring this for me?” Finishing his sentence, he hugged the thermal container to his body and prepared to open it up.
Seeing the excitement on his little face, she couldn’t bear to burst his bubble. However, she was bringing this thermal container to the hospital; if he ate it up, then there would be none left. Thus, she reluctantly stopped him. “Erm, Little Bean, the food in the thermal container isn’t for you, so you can’t eat it.”
His hands paused mid-movement. After a while, he lifted his head and asked with a gloomy expression, “Do you have another baby with somebody else, Aunt Yan?”
Yan couldn’t think of what to say in response.
“You’re so bad, Aunt Yan!” Pushing the thermal container back to her, he huffily crossed his arms together and retreated to a corner of the car; he turned his back on her and ignored her. Be that as it may, he looked extremely adorable like that.
Even the driver couldn’t help laughing a little at the sight of him. “Young lady, who is this child to you? He is so adorable, and handsome too.”
The corners of her mouth twitched, then she replied, “He is my friend’s kid. Don’t praise him; he becomes big headed easily.”
“Little Bean,” Yan called out to him, but he snorted loudly and continued to ignore her. Not sure whether to laugh or cry at the situation, she explained, “I’m bringing this to the hospital; do you understand?”
Little Bean instantly noticed the gravity of the situation at the mention of ‘hospital’. Turning around abruptly, he asked, “Aunt Yan, is somebody sick?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1050
As Mr. Zhou was recuperating well and would soon be discharged from the hospital, Yan was no longer upset at mentioning it. Therefore, she shared the entire story with Little Bean. Listening to the story, his eyes turned red and he pulled at her arm cutely. “I’m sorry, Aunt Yan. I didn’t know Uncle Zhou had gotten into an accident. I won’t eat any of the food; we should leave it for him.”
Yan reached out and pinched his nose. “Thankfully you have some compassion in you.”
Hugging her arm, he asked quietly, “Are we going to deliver the food to Uncle Zhou now?”
“Yeah.” She nodded. “We’ll deliver this, then I’ll bring you back to my house and I’ll cook for you.”
Agreeing, he said nothing more. Soon, they arrived at the hospital. Yan brought Little Bean with her as they got out of the car—one hand holding the thermal container, the other holding onto his hand. She might look rather young, but the way they looked as she held Little Bean’s hand while walking made them seem like a mother and son duo. After all, it wasn’t rare for people to have children at a young age in this day and age. It was just that his looks were too delicate. So, when passersby looked at them, they were surprised that she had given birth to such a good-looking child. However, after thinking about it, they decided that perhaps his father was handsome, and he merely took after his father. Of course, these were merely passing gossip. If she heard it, she would have fainted from the shock.
They quickly arrived outside the hospital room, and Yan reminded Little Bean, “Don’t forget; you’re not allowed to run about.”
“Don’t worry, Aunt Yan. I’m a good boy; it’s not as if you don’t know that.”
That’s right, I know that. He had always been a well-behaved child; compared to a normal child, he was much less burdensome and way smarter.
Pushing open the doors, only Mr. Zhou could be seen leaning against the head of the bed as he quietly read the newspaper. She inadvertently glanced over at the restroom and saw that the door was tightly closed—Luo Huimei must be occupying the restroom.
“Dad,” she called out.
“Oh, you’re here, Yan.” Putting down his newspaper, he lifted his head to look at her. In the next moment, he froze and stared blankly at the boy standing by her side. “I-Isn’t that…” He was dumbstruck and continued to stare at that face in confusion. Isn’t this the Ye Group’s Little Young Master? Why is he here?
“Nice to meet you, Uncle Zhou,” Little Bean politely greeted him without any prompting from Yan.
Looking at her father’s reaction, Yan blinked her eyes. Then, she realized that Little Bean looked very similar to Young Master Ye. As such, her father’s reaction during their first meeting was not unusual. She began explaining, “Dad, this is—”
“The son of President Ye; I know.” Her father had unexpectedly interrupted her. Stunned, she continued, “Dad, how do you know…”
“How can I not know? He has been to the company before.” Then, he directed the conversation away as he smiled brightly at Little Bean. “Why did you come here so unexpectedly, little President Ye? You should have informed me that you were coming, then I could have prepared myself in advance.”
Yan rolled her eyes at those words. There goes my father again! He even called him little President Ye! How can Little Bean be regarded as little President Ye?
“Dad, don’t be like this and stop calling him little President Ye. His name is Little Bean; just address him the same way I do. He came along with me today, and we’ll be going home together after this.”
“Huh?” Mr. Zhou couldn’t understand what was going on. “W-What do you mean? Why would the little President Ye follow you here? You…”
“Dad, I forgot to tell you before; the designer I followed before is Muzi. She is Little Bean’s mother, as well as the wife of your president.”
Mr. Zhou was so shocked he was rendered speechless. My daughter actually got along so well with the wife of the president and their kid? I never knew my daughter had that in her!
“Uncle Zhou, I will bring Mommy and Daddy to visit you next time.”
Mr. Zhou continued to say nothing.
Staring at her father’s expression, Yan hurriedly pulled Little Bean aside. “That’s enough, Little Bean. You should stop talking to him now; if you go on, I think he’s going to get off the bed.”
Little Bean nodded compliantly and obligingly kept his mouth shut. Mr. Zhou became speechless again. Giving his daughter an unhappy look, he grumbled softly, “Yan, what do you mean by that? Won’t you let me talk to the little President Ye? Besides, he is already here. How could you bring him here without letting me know beforehand…”
Before he could finish his sentence, she sat down by the edge of the bed. “Alright, why don’t you start eating?”
He seemed to feel slightly aggrieved, but he accepted the food and quietly picked up his chopsticks. Then, he stuffed his mouth with food while glancing at Little Bean.
“Oh my! Whose child is this? How is he so good-looking?” A high-pitched voice rang out suddenly, surprising everyone in the room. Mr. Zhou had the biggest reaction—he was so shocked that the chopsticks in his hand clattered noisily to the floor.
Yan said nothing as she gave her father another pair of chopsticks expressionlessly. Then, she mechanically picked up the chopsticks from the floor and placed them back into the bag.
“Oh, my goodness!” Luo Huimei quickly rushed over to Little Bean the moment she came out of the restroom, examining him all over.
“Nice to meet you, Aunt Zhou,” Little Bean gave a little bow as he greeted her politely.
“Aunt Zhou? Do you know me?” She smiled brightly and couldn’t help but reach out to touch his face. The boy did not flinch nor dodge; instead, he simply let her use her fingers to gently poke at his face. The feeling of a child’s face, full of collagen, was very nice. Thus, she couldn’t resist poking at his face again and again.
Despite that, he politely let her do as she pleased, seemingly not bothered by it. On the other hand, Yan simply stood by the side, watching them.
“Yan… I-Is this your son?”
The words that came out of Luo Huimei’s mouth were so outrageous that not only were both Mr. Zhou and Yan shocked speechless by her words, but their lower jaws also nearly fell to the ground. Mr. Zhou nearly dropped his chopsticks again, but luckily, Yan managed to stop them from falling this time around. “Dad, if you drop them again, we don’t have another pair of chopsticks for you to use.”
Therefore, he could only hold onto his chopsticks tightly.
“Yan, you have not answered my question. Where did you get such a good-looking kid? It can’t be your friend’s kid, can it? Did you give birth to a kid without me knowing?” After all, Yan had not returned home in five years. Luo Huimei felt that it wasn’t all that surprising for her to bring back a child around that age.
“Mom! Stop with your ludicrous imagination! He is Little Bean, the son of my superior that I mentioned to you before; he also happens to be the son of Dad’s company’s president. Why don’t you stop to consider it; how is it possible for me to give birth to such a good-looking kid considering the way I look?”
